Take a moment to remind yourself right now that, regardless of your current level, you are doing a phenomenal job. One can only move so fast, so please give yourself more credit.

Looking through my pictures and so curious as to why it took me this long to start loving and embracing myself and my body. I used to wish my curl strands stood like the natural hair bloggers I habitually watched. Used to wish I had the body type of my sister and friends, instead of my thick thighs and wide hips. I used to work out to lose weight, eagerly waiting for that “certain” number on the scale. Now, i workout to stay toned, build muscle and keep those glutes right lol. Looking in the mirror and loving those features I looked at as flaws: my kinky hair, my “thick” thighs and my long legs. No more shame! Sidenote: Looking forward to getting dressed up this weekend and celebrating my friend. ❤️ #bighairbigthoughts #4cnaturalhair #kinkycurls #igbogirls https://www.instagram.com/ogechiochuba/p/BucdWCQh_oG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=b3mbqpk7nwn0

Love is the capacity to take care, to protect, to nourish. If you are not capable of generatng that kind of energy toward yourself - if you are not capable of taking care of yourself, of nourishing yourself, of protecting yourself - it is very difficult to take care of another person. In the Buddhist teaching, it’s clear that to love oneself is the foundation of the love of other people. Love is a practice. Love is truly a practice.

If we are not happy, if we are not peaceful, we cannot share peace and happiness with others, even those we love, those who live under the same roof. If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.

Tomorrow will mark 4 years of my transition from relaxers. Definitely hit my hair goals in 2018 of less shedding, fuller hair, and length. I always try to aim for something new for my hair every year but as of now, my goal is mid-back length in 2019. Don’t ever sleep on protective styles, messaging your scalp nightly, and weekly deep conditioners...these are a PLUS. Also started incorporating ACV into my weekly shampoos and I experience less itching and a cleaner scalp. A big shoutout to @iamsheenarenee, she’s amazing! Before 2018 ended, my sister said something about me that she didn’t know would resonate. “Ogechi, you seek approval from the people in your life to feel victorious” A year filled with depression, uncertainty, and emotional instability, 2018, alone was a challenge. I had to be vulnerable to learn how to dig deep into my strength. I went through pain to be able to learn to pick myself up and manifest in happiness. I had to let go of friendships and relationships that brought imbalance into my life. I had to learn that I was enough and there was absolutely nothing wrong with placing myself first. I learned the steps to completely let go of my past and recreate a new page for myself. I had to stop running from people, from my fears, from love, and from truth. I had to realize that I didn’t need anyone’s approval to make decisions that were best for me, to shine my light. There is no better feeling than being completely stripped down and rebuilding yourself from scratch. Learning your every bit of imperfection and telling yourself that YOU ARE ENOUGH! You are beautiful, you are strong, you are needed, you are loved. Encouraging yourself on a daily and learning the true definition of courage and strength. I thank God for allowing me to go through hell to come out as a conqueror and I thank God for blessing me with a circle that never left my side. I choose to fulfill my destiny and live my life the way God has intended for me. I know that the woman that I choose to become will cost me more people and relationships but in 2019 I choose myself, my peace, and my happiness. ❤️ #2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/BsHP90yBXUU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1lhn0gve6mqd4

Moving forward requires one foot in front of the other, not both at once. Take your time, relax, and take it one step at a time.

It’s Monday, guys! Definitely looking forward to a better week after the type of week I had last week. It was a highly emotional week and just rusty for me. I definitely needed a reset after it and take some time to myself. I always start my week with my Sunday workouts but due to some work training and the amount of studying I had to do yesterday to prepare for exams, I couldn’t make it to the gym. Definitely excited about the month of May beginning tomorrow. Excited about some new workout goals, incorporating some new eating habits, and some new adventures lined up this month. Sidenote: Just had an amazing conversation with a friend this morning who is also one of my fitness role models @yoitsmi_fitness. Definitely lots of tips I received from her and lots of questions answered. #fitness #newweeknewgoals #newweek

My friend, you must remember to take moments to reflect upon yourself and all the wonderful attributes that you offer to this world!
Tell me, what is a quality that you absolutely love about yourself?

As I reflect on this past weekend, I can do nothing but pat myself on the back. I have definitely evolved from the person I used to be and grown into the woman that I needed to be for myself. When you begin to evolve you begin to see things around you differently. You walk away from people that don't bring much value to your life, you begin to have more confidence in yourself, and you begin to pay less attention to people/comments that alter your mood. It's important to know whom you are as a person and to love every bit of yourself. Never feel that you need confirmation from the next individual. #wordsofencouragement #reflection #wordsofencouragement #lovingthejourney #blackgirlmagic #bighairbigthoughts #selfreflection #evolution #loveyourself #mondayvibes

January 2018, I made it a decision to leave braids out until the summer so I could really treat and manage my natural hair. It's definitely been a challenge with these weekly washes but I've been able to try new products and add to my weekly regimens. I've found what products work best for my hair (Carol's Daughter, Camille Rose and Amla Powder, amazing products by the way) and I've learned what products just weigh my hair down. Today was my first press of the year and my growth has been amazing. Though I still have some stuff to work on (moisturization and detangling) I've definitely been hitting my goals of having healthy, growing natural hair. Having a hair stylist that's been working with me on my hair for a couple years now has also been a big help. Shout out to @iamsheenarenee. #naturalhair #naturalista #camillerosenaturals #sheenarenee #4chair #4chairchicks #silkpress #trim #healthynaturalhair #naturalhairjourney #yearthree #blackgirlmagic #naija #deepconditioning #steamhydrationtreatment #bluntcuts #kinkychicks
