Stiles stares down in shock at the woman sprawled on his floor. She’s sputtering, trying to push her windswept brown hair out of her face and get to her feet at once. She somehow manages, and jumps a bit when she sees Stiles standing in front of her. “What the fuck?!” Stiles says. “What the fuck?!” the woman says. She glances around the room, seeing the Monsters, Inc. and Star Wars crock pots, a bunch of dried herbs hanging from the ceiling, and the orbs of light bobbing near the crown molding. Peter comes barreling in a moment later, claws out, eyes blue, and fangs dropped. “What the FUCK?” the woman shouts, looking between Stiles and Peter. Callista wanders over, rubbing up against the woman’s legs and looking up with bright red eyes. “Uh, Toto, we definitely aren’t in Asgard anymore." Io works for Hera for three months before she meets Peter. Hera is young, newly tenured, and dresses nothing like the other professors that Io knows. She wears high, pin-sharp heels and doesn’t wobble, stands all daw and doesn’t slouch. Her lipstick is crisp and unsmudgeable, even on days when they serve Sloppy Joes in the dining hall. Io stays late at her admin desk, long after the phones have closed, finding busywork to do on her laptop. She doesn’t like to leave before Hera does. She cherishes the extra time, the two of them alone in the department, their breathing almost synced. 

It is on one of these nights that Peter arrives, shirtsleeves rolled up to his elbows, buttons undone down to his collarbone. He pays no mind to Io, breezing past her into his wife’s office. Io hears him chuckle, low, and murmur Hera’s name. The intimacy of it makes Io shiver, miserable. There’s a pause and Io wonders if they’re kissing. She feels it like a gut punch—stupid. Of course they’re kissing. Of course they kiss. They are married. Hera is.

After a few minutes, they emerge together. Io watch them with a helpless, drowning feeling. At the door, Hera pauses and looks back. Her dusty-mauve lips curl up into a smile.

“Io,” she says. Her mouth curves around the letters of Io’s name, warm and bubbling. Io feels helpless not to learn toward it. Toward her. “Don’t stay too late.”

Io watches as her fingers curl around the place where Peter’s hand becomes his wrist. Io says, “No, I,” and cannot manage anything further, the words gumming up her throat. What she wants to say is: No, I won’t stay. I can’t stay. I want to stay. I can’t.

Hera reaches out and tucks a strand of Io’s hair behind her ear, carelessly fond. Io glances nervously at Peter. Now he is watching her. Now he sees the way the world has narrowed for her down to the place where Hera’s affection left a shivering trace on Io’s ear. She thinks perhaps that she is shaking. It must be written on her face, her devotion and her disappointment, her sudden clarity of what all her desire means. Hera must know; Hera can’t not know. 

Hera turns away. They leave her there.

peter  parker  -  ahlora  rhodes do  you  stick  to  the  mcu???  like  the  whole…  everyone  forgetting  him?  bc  i'm  thinking  a  blossoming  new  friendship,  maybe  a  new  neighbor  could  be  the  kind  of  thing  that  peter  needs.  not  someone  who  he  wishes  remembered  him.  just  a  clean  slate.  something  to  help  him  cope  without  ahlora  realizing  he's  coping.  and  i'm  just  sayin,  if  they  get  close,  she's  really  good  with  a  sewing  kit.  brunnhilde  "valkyrie"  -  callista  de  la  cruz HEAVY�� BREATHING.  H  E  A  V  Y  BREATHING!!!!!  callie  isn't  usually  the  type  to  openly  drool,  but  i  feel  like  an  exception  can  be  made  in  brunnhilde's  case  bc…  hot  damn.  and  that's  all  i've  got.  i'm  sure  there  could  be  some  really  interesting  scenarios  in  which  they  meet  up.  but  callie  is  just  in  love.  on  sight.

druig  -  kate  bishop 110%  over  is  shit.  she  already  has  one  smart  mouth  in  barton,  she  does  not  need  another  one.  but  she  is  a  glutton  for  punishment  so  somehow..  they  keep  ending  up  in  the  same  places.

I'm curious. You mentioned a RSA sister school in your last ask. Do you have any headcanons about that and a NRC one? Which characters do you imagine going to each?

YUP. I do!

So RSA's sister school and NRC's (I'm still playing with names for both) aren't on Sage's Island. They are in the Land of Dawning. That said, in Kora's story, since Kora is my Yuu, you do see those schools in Glorious Masquerade and you will see a Rosa cameo in Book 5, right after Berne broke up with her.

So following NRC's dorm pattern, I have different ideas on each school. I don't know if RSA has dorms, but if they do, the dorms are likely based on Alice, Simba, Ariel, Aladdin, Snow White, Hercules, and Aurora. The dorms I've come up with RSA's sister school are based on Peter Pan, Kuzco, Belle, Mulan, Cinderella, Anna and Elsa, and Merida. NRC's sister school has dorms on Captain Hook, Yzma, Gaston, Shan Yu, Lady Tremaine, Prince Hans, and Mor'du.

For characters who attended RSA's sister school? Rosa did, her best friend Callista (Twisted from the Enchantres) did, another friend of Rosa's Erica (Twisted from Prince Eric), Kalim's relative (I headcanon his sister) who tigers like (obviously Twisted from Jasmine) will when she's old enough, and Berne did. Rosa and Callista were in Belle's dorm, Erica was in Cinderella's, Kalim's sister will be in Mulan's, and Berne was in Merida's.

I haven't come up with anyone to attend NRC's sister school because I haven't gotten to GloMas yet in Kora's story, but I'll have some when I get there. I do have a Twisted Yzma OC, but he's a fourth year at NRC when Kora is there and the previous head of Pomefiore before Vil took over.

Hook (Captain James Matthew Hook) is a cool kid. 

He's not supposed to be. 

He's supposed to be uncool. So uncool, in fact, that he makes friends with spiders and misfits and his great-aunt, and keeps up these friendships at the expense of all other opportunities to raise himself up from the depths of unpopularity. 

Unfortunately for the integrity of the timeline, in this iteration, Captain James Hook was sent back in time as a punishment, with the goal being for him to stop acting like such a miserable bastard, and instead rediscover his sense of whimsy, and maybe even come back a better person. Instead, he gets involved in an evil polycule, tries to bring a new version of the wall game to Disney Channel, and adjusts to his new life at magic school by trying to command underclassmen like he would his crew. 

But I'm not here to write that story. 

I'm here to write about his children. 

Before I get too far into this, a brief note on what’s probably canon:

The Facts (as they currently stand)

We have the confirmed existence of one James Hook, alleged father to somewhere between 2-4 children. Likely around the same age as Cinderella. Exists through hearsay in D2 and D3 (as the confirmed father of Harry Hook), and appears in D4. 

Harriet Hook, eldest daughter. Exists in my heart, and also in the Isle of the Lost novels. No mention of her in any movie or in Wicked World. 

Harry Hook, middle child. Definitely exists in movie canon, appears in D2, D3, and Under the Sea (short)

Callista Jane (CJ) Hook, younger daughter, exists in Wicked World. No mention in the main movies. 

Hazel Hook, possibly the youngest daughter, will allegedly appear on screen in D5. No mention in Wicked World or the tie-in novels. 

GREAT OKAY NOW THAT WERE DONE WITH THAT.

His first child in the new timeline is Corbin, who is 100% an accident baby. Hook leaves school early to take care of his new child out on the open sea, and he cries for months when Corbin (very literally) goes flying over the side of the ship and is never seen again. 

(On an unrelated note, a valuable lesson about having safer sex when you're doing weird experimental stuff with shapeshifters is learned by absolutely nobody. Corbin is a surprise, but an absolutely beloved one, and Hook has no regrets about this. His only regret is encouraging his shapeshifter-child to experiment with bird shapes, and not telling him in clear enough words to always come home to roost). 

Hook vows never to fall in love again. 

This, of course, means that he meets a lovely human-shaped girl in the next port, and begins an affair with her that eventually results in Dylan, who is a sweet-tempered baby that Hook wants absolutely nothing to do with. Naturally, he flees the port, and is VERY surprised to see baby Dylan and his selkie mother swimming alongside the ship. 

They have a long, mostly shouted conversation about leaving people alone when they flee the country, and eventually come to the agreement that Dylan can visit the ship sometimes once he's older, and understands things like not ripping out handfuls of human hair and how to eat raw fish in a way that's not 'swallow them  whole while maintaining direct eye contact', which the rest of the crew finds rightfully somewhat off-putting. 

Hook swears off children once again, and goes on a journey to ruin the lives of as many children as possible, primarily by swearing a lifelong grudge against Peter Pan and also trying to target ships delivering children's toys to the mainland. 

Unfortunately, this leads to him accidently becoming the dreamy, romantic pirate that all of the Auradon ladies want to save with the power of true love, which leads to him a bit-less-accidently becoming the hookup king of the seas. 

He's got a lady in every port, and he refuses to stay with any of them. He's far too dashing and mysterious for that, and he's got a darkness in his heart that the ladies would find repulsive if they were allowed to know him for too long. So he's actually being a decent guy by hooking up once or twice and then leaving them. 

Hook.....doesn't actually know if he's fathered any more kids at this point, and tbh he's too afraid to ask. 

He carries on more-or-less in this fashion until the villains unite once again, and try to have a little uprising, and subsequently get banished to the isle. 

It's weirder this time around, because history is cyclical and all that, and also the fabric of time doesn't like to be messed with, so instead of reuniting with his schoolyard polycule (and accidentally fathering a child with another one of them, no thank you, some traumas need to be left well alone), Hook retreats to his grotto and his ship, and THIS time, with nowhere to run, he swears off women entirely. And shapeshifters. And....anybody. He's never having intimate relations with another person again. 

Hook, above all else, is a liar. 

He lies so hard that it comes back around to bite him in the ass, this time in the form of a siren named Parthenope, who didn't mean to get stuck on the Isle when the barrier was created, and is sort of pissed about the whole thing. 

They have absolutely delightful hate-sex for a while, and then, once it's been long enough that Parthenope is mostly just chilling around Hook's grotto instead of the open sea, she finds a kid. 

Harriet is dark-haired and wild, and she bites like a shark and swears like a sailor. Nobody comes around looking for her, so Parthenope decides that this is the perfect time to baby-trap her man, and swoops onto the shore to drag tiny toddler Harriet back to the ship with her. 

Hook has mellowed out somewhat by being trapped on the isle, and agrees that yes, this wet little drowned rat of a child is cute, and the way she bites any crew members who try to touch her is absolutely endearing, and of course they should keep her. 

Parthenope is charmed by her new daughter, and teaches her all of the important skills for a siren, like how to scream to the ocean, and catch fish with her feet, and bite anyone who she doesn't like. 

She's so charmed that she decides she'd like another child, and when Harriet is five or so, she coaxes her on-again-off-again captain into having a baby with her. 

Baby Harry is half-siren, and screams like his mother. Unlike his sister, he doesn't seem to have inherited any of their mother's swimming ability, and he nearly drowns a half-dozen times before his parents decide not to let him loose near the water anymore. 

When Harriet is eleven, and Harry is six, and Parthenope is just as ageless and beautiful as ever, Hook makes a mistake.

 The mistake's name is Callista Jane, and she's the unfortunate product of a night with one of the three Beauties from Gaston's Fight Club and Bar. 

Parthenope takes deep offense at her captain hooking up with another woman, and does the reasonable thing in response to this irrefutable evidence of his betrayal, which is to leave forever and never speak to him again. 

Her children are devastated, as is their father, who would have been a Wife Guy in another world. 

CJ is cute, obviously, and she's good at getting herself into trouble AND screaming at things, which at this point is an essential Hook Child skill. So the other two decide to keep her, even though she's the reason their mother left and they'll never really get over it. 

CJ's appearance also starts a rumor that Hook, formerly known as That Weird Guy Who Lives On A Boat With His Scary Fish Wife (who bites), is now out and about fathering children with random women. As a consequence, there's a bit of a slew of alleged Hook children on the Isle, although most of them are unconfirmed. 

Hazel Hook, the sole daughter of a minor villainess from the outskirts of Auroria, is an exception to the pack. She's a true Hook child, confirmed by both her father and her eldest sister, who is considered the reigning authority on their father's progeny. She's the product of Hook getting out there again after CJ decided she was striking out on her own and fled from the isle during the semi-canon events of wicked world. It’s unclear if the timeline supports this, but the cosmic Powers That Be have decided that it’s funniest for the bit if Hook is cursed with so many children despite not wanting most of them, so they’ve agreed to let Hazel happen.

Usual culprits of Christian stories being bad:

A) absolute lack of substance. Either the author themselves doesn't really know the theological ideas they should be writing about, or if they do, they or their publishers prefer to cut them in favor of "reaching a wider audience". The result is so generic and watered down, that offends no one, but also pleases no one. If you pick some of the most famous and classic Christian novels, you will most definitely get the sense that the author had OpinionsTM. I may not agree with Charlotte Brontë's or Anne Brontë's theological ideas, but I most certainly find them in their work, and they put them there without any consideration of who might disagree or get offended. And that makes for engaging material.

B) This doesn't stop the books from being preachy, somehow. They are preachy about absolutely milquetoast stuff like being kind and reading your Bible and accepting Christ as your lord and savior. And this is because so much of it is written half as didactics and half as apologetics: the writer writers to present an instructive or edifying example to other Christians, but also DefendTM Christians and Christianity and show some hypothetical non-Christian reader wrong in their hypothetical negative assumptions about Christians and Christianity. I think one of my favorite things to present this contrast in is cardinal Wiseman's Fabiola vs St. John Henry Newman's Callista. Fabiola is not necessarily bad -it's inspiring and moving at many points- but this heavy didactic-apologetic intent is very, very felt. Whereas Newman's Callista is filled with Newman's own questions about what it means to be a Christian and a Catholic and how the communities and times in which you live influence the way you live your faith, how do they contribute to strengthen it or weaken it, etc, etc.

C) One of the severe consequences of the didactics-apologetics aproach, is the inability to take oneself (and fellow Christians as a whole) lightly. I remember this post that was going around about things that you shouldn't do in representing Catholic orders and Catholics because they are offensive, and it made me think of so many episodes of my life as a Catholic that belong in a comedy. That time it was the bishop's birthday, an old lady suggested having a cake with a picture of his face on top, and pastor commented "and who'll be the first to stab him on the face I wonder". That time I went to sing at the cathedral and there was this random abandoned cardboard cutout of St. John Paul II in the choir loft. That time I rode a van with nuns and a coffin. And the list goes on. Saints lives! We have blessed Carino, who was the murderer of St Peter of Verona. Like, yup, he was an assassin, but then circumstances happened and he ended up at a Dominican convent and liked the life so much he joined. The same order the guy he murdered belonged to. Not the only case. Bad Christian fiction absolutely refuses to admit the funny, the ridiculous, the actually strange and quirky in its Christian characters and their lives -it takes Christians way too seriously because instead of writing about people and their lives, it's writing didactics and apologetics.

The God's not Dead movies are such a case of study of... everything I just said turned up to 11, but I think it illustrates the humor aspect perfectly. It is aware that it needs a relief of tension with some comedy. But it cannot stop itself from being oh so preachy about it. So the humor is all about... a pastor being somewhat pessimistic and not upbeat 100% of the time. This is treated as a little joke, but just in case you are not aware that being a pessimist is wrong and bad, we will put pastor McOptimist to preach you about hope and faith and cheerfulness. That is exhausting.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Giovanni Guareschi's Don Camillo stories (and their excellent classic adaptations with Fernandel) are such beloved stories for those who know them because A) they have a clear idea of what they want to say. Don Camillo is always talking to Christ in the crucifix, and Christ answers. B) Don Camillo is not a perfect model Christian. He gets angry easily, he's vindictive and and a little vain sometimes. Those faults are evident for anyone and have a real impact in his life. They also don't stop him from being passionately dedicated to his vocation as a priest, generous, steady, and even tenderly affectionate sometimes. His struggles, triumphs and defeats as he stumbles through life are endearing, but the comical his faults produce are always around the corner to stop the narrative from being sacharine. C) The context in which Don Camillo lives isn't easy and clear cut either: the mayor of the town, Peppone, and a significant number of inhabitants, are communists. But Don Camillo and Peppone fought the war side by side. Many of these men and women he's known for a long time. He taught some of them music! The more-Catholic-than-the-Pope Miss Christina taught them all to read and make sums and pray! And it makes everything so complicated. And because of that it makes it compelling.

About this week's episode. I just want to give a massive shoot out to the stellar cast!

Izabela Vidovic and Olivia Nikkanen are perfect as young Kara and Alex and form a perfect duo! I love what they bring to the characters, while also being very similar in terms of acting to the original cast.

Elizabeth Helm was a perfect Cat Grant! She made a perfect imitation of Callista Flokart's representation of Cat. Her posture, facial expressions, the way she talked it was all there, and it really felt like seing Cat Grant again!

Peter Sudarso as Kenny Li was just the sweetest! Not just his role but the actor himself. He was perfect as Kara's companion, I love how he portrayed an enthusiast and carring first Superfriend!

And of course special mention to Nicoles Maines and Jesse Rath who were their perfect selves as usual!
