Patrick Cripps: 2024 AFL Brownlow Medal Winner
CARLTON captain Patrick Cripps has won the 2024 Brownlow Medal with a record tally, becoming the 17th player in VFL/AFL history to win the prestigious award multiple times after adding to his 2022 triumph in an historic count on Monday night.
Cripps, who was in the medal-winning position from round six, polled an incredible 45 votes to win from Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos on 38, with the Magpies' brilliant onballer also breaking the previous record of 36.
Cripps was confirmed as the winner at round 21, polling three votes against Collingwood to ensure he could not be passed. When Daicos polled two votes in round 22, Cripps was declared the outright winner with two rounds to go.
It was an historic night as Carlton's inspirational leader smashed through the 40-vote mark and broke the previous record jointly held by Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines (2021) and Richmond champion and 2017 winner Dustin Martin.
Port Adelaide midfielder Zak Butters (29, Fremantle vice-captain Caleb Serong (28), and Greater Western Sydney midfielder Tom Green (27) rounded out the top five, with Sydney's ineligible superstar Isaac Heeney polling 28 votes.
It was Cripps who always had their measure, however, after establishing an eight-vote lead at round 16 and leaning on a strong finish to the season to see off the charging Daicos, who polled in a record 10 consecutive games from round eight to 18.
Cripps joined champion midfielders Chris Judd and Greg Williams as dual medallists to have represented Carlton, but he became the first to win two Brownlow Medals as a Blue.
The crowning night capped off an outstanding season for the 29-year-old, who played every game and averaged 28.8 disposals, 8.0 clearances, 15.7 contested possessions, and 4.8 inside 50s, earning All Australian selection for the fourth time.
The 29-year-old accepted his medal from coach and 2006 winner Michael Voss and spoke about growing up in Northampton in Western Australia, looking up to West Coast superstars Ben Cousins and Chris Judd and dreaming of joining them as a Brownlow Medal winner.
"They probably inspired me to chase my dream, and now I'm in a position to inspire other young kids, and I don't take that lightly," Cripps said.
"I'm just someone who wants to chase my dreams and I love doing it. Now I know the impact I've had on young kids coming through, it's pretty special.
"All kids out there, or anyone in general, if you get after it in life and have a dream and work hard at it, you can do amazing things. Life is short, so get after it."
Cripps also paid tribute to the support of his wife Monique after the couple became parents to daughter Koda this year, with the midfielder happy and settled off the field in his 11th season.
He said his parents, Brad and Cath, had instilled great values in him that he carried still after being drafted with pick No.13 in the 2013 National Draft.
Last year's medallist Lachie Neale was considered a contender to go back-to-back but never got on a roll, finishing on 22 votes as he prepares for Saturday's Grand Final.
Heeney, who was ineligible to win after being suspended for striking in round 17, was atop the leaderboard for five weeks during the first half of the season but only polled seven votes after round 10.
Heeney and well ahead of Daicos (four) and Neale (two), who were expected to start slowly.
Daicos was entering a five-game block of outstanding form, however, and emerged with 13 of a possible 15 votes, rising to third with 17 votes to put himself back in the race.
Cripps was shaping as unstoppable, however, having kept his tally ticking over with three best afield matches to secure an outright lead after round 12 with 22 votes.
He was never headed from there, polling the maximum three votes six more times in the last 10 games to win in commanding style.
2024 Brownlow Medal, Top 10 Patrick Cripps - 45 Nick Daicos - 38 Zak Butters - 29 Caleb Serong - 28 Isaac Heeney* - 28 Tom Green - 27 Adam Treloar - 26 Errol Gulden - 25 Matt Rowell - 25 Jai Newcombe - 24

big summarising of my thoughts and development, the past week... (pt. 2)
the other thing i looked up was the wikipedia page for prayer, which led me to this article:
Sacred Movement: Dance as Prayer in the Pueblo Cultures of the American Southwest by Sarracina Littlebird
https://web.archive.org/web/20120126212840/http://dance.barnard.edu/sites/default/files/inline/sarracina_littlebird.pdf
"dance is the chosen mechanism of religious expression because of its potent expressive capabilities" (this is in many tribes of Native people sharing a common ancestor living in the southwestern US).
"ritual drama, in dealing with life itself, is a process which serves to unite humans with other humans, as well as humans with other-than-humans, the revealed with the unrevealed worlds, the visible with the invisible" (a quote from Charlotte J. Frisbie).
this made me think of Charli XCX, whose most recent album brat is a dance record which fleshes out and humanizes the club without taking away any of the fun and dancing and amazing music.
youtube
this song, 365, is the closer. the message is simple - even after all the uncertainty and pain and chaotic energy of the album, charli XCX is still in the club, and now it feels a lot more intense and certain. the music is more aggressive and wild, it feels a lot more free and weird than it's poppier counterpart, the intro track 360.
the lyrics are in a kind of litany form, ending every single line with "bumpin' that" - basically a reference to dancing, enjoying music, or doing cocaine, or whatever else. the repetition feels religious, like the lifestyle of a monk, a kind of devotion to a lifestyle.
that's interesting, but there's also this song:
youtube
this song is similar to prayer by brockhampton - very buzzy, simple synth chords - the feeling of someone having a weird existential crisis or awakening. a short little interlude, a moment where something happens.
when i think about the amount of time someone spends with a work of art, especially in a gallery, it usually isn't that long. what if my work could feel like that little moment of calm, of breathing. what if it was bright enough to draw you in and make you stop, but it didn't try and challenge you, except to ask you to come closer?
this song is about considering having a baby, and there's this lyric:
So, we had a conversation on the way home Should I stop my birth control? 'Cause my career feels so small In the existential scheme of it all
in a weird way, that feels like not wrestling with God, to me. just letting something happen. i'm not trying to say that i don't fuck with birth control, but that's the feeling i get when i think about this song in relation to my work. i think about the idea of a star like charli xcx writing the lyric: "we had a conversation on the way home", something so mundane. like you're getting out of your own way.
i watched a video by caleb gamman about brat, and in his video he talked about this song and charli's stated uncertainty about motherhood. he said this:
"i think 'baby fever' is the funniest thing in the world... like, it's not a crazy thing to mention, but it's probably the most undignified and desperate that you can come across, like 'haha, i want a baby. fundamentally change the course of my life forever!'"
that idea of being undignified and desperate really appeals to me, because that's how i felt when i prayed, and how i feel when i post on instagram that i am feeling suicidal.
i thought about that moment of isolation and fear, and i thought of the scene in raging bull by martin scorsese, where jake lamotta is stuck in a prison cell.
youtube
some of the comments underneath the video
@frankwilliamson4576 -- "prison and jail will break even the strongest man. I spent a year in a state pen for possession of cocaine when I was 22... it shows just how easy it is to fuck everything up..."
@amanred9337 -- "the reality that there is no one left to blame but yourself
someone quoting Martin Sheen -- "it shows that if you're not able to forgive, then that's where you end up - inside a small cell."
i began to switch the idea of wrestling to the idea of performing music, inside the cage, and everyone watching.
the next day, in class, i drew this:
me, inside this facility-looking fence thing, inside a kind of box thing, performing for the audience. i was thinking about the idea of being trapped in trauma, of art being a re-enactment of trauma, and if i did perform a prayer in front of an audience, i would be continuing that narrative.
so i decided to include a hole in the fence, made with bolt cutters, in a reference to fiona apple's album fetch the bolt cutters, which is about trying to leave a bad situation or feeling (and also an album which ends with her in prison!).
as the artist and performer, i do still need to be back in that place to draw things out of it, but if there's a hole in the fence, then this guarded facility with an opening becomes an option, not a prison. a place i can enter and leave when i need it, and something that is distinct, but not seperate. the boundaries between my trauma and my non-trauma are loose.
another thought i had was that the idea of praying for myself, for my own 'sins', for my own worries and fears to be calmed, feels really selfish. and i think a lot of my past work has been kind of self-expressiony in a i'm suffering way. and that's ok, but i want to start making things to help other people. i want this to help people.
i kept drawing it...
finally, i think i've landed on the idea. the platform, raised and clearly theatrical, like lars von trier's dogville, with blue lighting like club silencio from david lynch's mulholland dr., and a dead stick in dirt in the centre, like a marcel duchamp readymade. a microphone and CD player coming out of the dirt. the CD player loaded with a karaoke tracklist, and you can sing, if you want. the cage is open for the audience to come in.
i think when i present the work, i'll do a little performance, cutting open the fence, folding it back, and then singing something for them.
that's where i'm at....

Bio’s & Verses
Verse: Main Name: Etta Fiske Age: 24 Occupation: Bakery Location: Long Beach, CA
TW: Domestic Abuse, Suicide mention, & miscarriage
Etta Fiske was born into what appeared to be a normal American family. Her parents, Martin and Arianna Fiske were an older couple, but very much in love. It was obvious from an early age that their little daughter had a gift for music. Wanting to nurture that aspect her parents enrolled her in piano lessons at the age of five. While her parents loved her deeply they were overprotective which eventually led to Etta being overly sheltered. Throughout school, she kept to herself, something that would eventually lead to a crippling social anxiety. The young girl had a difficult time looking people in the eye or holding conversations. As she grew up she was bullied by her peers who found flaws in everything from her red hair to her pale skin. If that wasn’t bad enough Etta didn’t care too much about keeping up with the popular styles and would just be happy with clothes picked up from a thrift store or a garage sale which only added to the misery at school as they often teased her about being poor; despite her parents being middle class. By the time she hit high school, she was quite tall and awkward as puberty seemed to hold out until the last possible minute. If the cruel ridicule was difficult in middle school by the time she hit high school it was too much to bear. When lying down at night all she could hear was the shouts and taunts. Eventually, those voices won as she tried to commit suicide her senior year.
She was found in the girl’s bathroom at school by the gym teacher and rushed to a hospital. The attempt made things tense between her and her parents, and when she returned back to school she heard many whispers in the halls that she had done it for attention. Etta continued to struggle, but finished out and graduated with her class.
It was over the summer she took time to carefully measure her next step. She knew music was the one thing she loved and was appreciated for by others. Feeling the itch to get out of town she headed two hours north to a small school. It was there something remarkable happened; the bullying which seemed to be relentless back home had completely vanished. Unfortunately, her past made her feel socially inept to handle new people who tried to befriend her. Deciding to work on herself, she began to see a therapist by the name Caleb Moreno. He was immediately taken with her quiet, gentle nature in a matter of months he began to pursue her romantically during their sessions. She had never had a man pay so much attention to her, aside from her father. His attention was flattering and it stirred something in her, and for the first time, he made her feel as if she was deserving of love and affection. Caleb could give her something she had never had before – a sexual relationship. She was hesitant to take that step with him but he did not give up, and after time she decided he was the one.
Caleb changed shortly after they became intimate. He started to become possessive and began to track her time and insisted she move into his home. Much to the credit of the controlling therapist she was not only getting used to being social and enjoying it, but now that Caleb had her he didn’t want to share. The abuse started verbally but soon after turned physical. Her love for him waned, and she made attempts to leave, but he would beat her for even trying. Eventually, she obtained a degree in music and a certification for teaching, but he made it very clear she was not to make use of it. A few years later when she found out she was pregnant. The pregnancy only made Caleb angrier and eventually he beat her so badly she miscarried. Etta’s hopes of having a child and a person in her life who would love her without condition were ripped from her that night.
Once healed, she went to see her father. Her mother had already passed and Martin was getting on in years. He wanted so badly to help his precious little girl that he did the only thing he could think of. He told her the truth about having a brother out in California and told her to run as fast as she could. His name was Johnnie Fiske and he was pretty sure he still lived in Long Beach.
Making an attempt to do something for herself in this life, Etta has fled Florida on the search for the brother she never knew she had. She waited till Caleb went into the office to pack up her 94’ Jetta with some clothes and a few small cherished belongings, her kitten Brahms, and a face full of bruises. Leaving mostly everything she ever knew behind she actually has hope in the future because she is finally making choices based on the things she wants, and not what everyone else expected of her. For the first time on her own the only thing she has is a name and an address
Verse: Post-Apocalyptic Z-Day Name: Etta Fiske Age: 27 Occupation: Farmer/Botanist Location: Mid-West
TW: Suicide Mention
While she would never admit to before Z-day happened, growing up on a farm certainly had its advantages. As a youth, she couldn’t wait to be away from the life that woke her at the crack of dawn with the intention of getting chores done before leaving for school. A lot of that time was spent daydreaming of faraway places like bustling cities or a suburbia really any place but the farm. When the time came she ran off to university in one of those big cities with the expectation of studying chemistry, but found herself graduating with a degree in botany: it was just in her blood.
Postgrad she worked in a hydroponics plant but grew bored within a few years. Her disenchantment with life was only coupled further after a failed engagement. When her mother sent word that her father’s health was failing she knew it was time to head home. Part of her was content that her father was gone before the disease spread throughout the world. Etta and her mother stayed held up along with others that had flocked to the farm for a bit; however, as their numbers grew they were having difficulty sustaining.
On a quiet morning, Etta returned from her chores and was surprised to not find her mom in the kitchen cooking up breakfast. Heading towards her bedroom she stopped outside the door and knocked. When nothing was heard she tried to swing open the door but felt some resistance. Finding it concerning she pushed harder and squeezed herself in the space allotted. Much to her horror, she saw her mother’s body swaying-hanging from a rope. It was too horrific to even scream Etta just shut down and shook her head as warm tears fell from her eyes. Walking over she sat down on her mother’s unslept-in bed. It was all too much.
Etta walked out of the room and out the house and grabbed a motorbike which one of the survivors had ridden in on. She left that farm that morning and has no intention of heading back.

Denver Nuggets Win First NBA Championship In Franchise History With 4-1 Finals Win Over Heat.
The Denver Nuggets have officially won their first NBA Championship.
To do so, they took down the Miami HEAT in 5 games and completed the series win with a 94-89 Game 5 victory. Denver’s postseason run has been dominant, going 16-4 through four rounds of play. This was the 14th-best playoff record by an NBA champion in NBA history.
Nikola Jokić was the star of the show for Denver and finished with 28 points to go with 16 rebounds. His big performance helped him win Finals MVP.
Michael Porter Jr. finished with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds.
It was not a game of offensive execution. Denver shot just 17.9 percent from the three-point line, while Miami went 25.7 percent from deep. Denver was able to perform much better from 2-point range with 58.9 percent shooting, whereas Miami shot just 39.8 percent inside the arc. Denver also won the rebounding battle convincingly against Miami in Game 5, 57-44. They also scored more fastbreak points, winning 19-12 in that statistical category.
Denver got off to a 12-5 start by pushing the pace in transition and getting 4 early points from Caldwell-Pope. Miami, meanwhile, could not hit the broad side of the barn and missed 10-straight shots after making their first two. Miami furiously came back on a 16-6 run, and Jokić picked up his second foul. This forced Malone to put DeAndre Jordan in, who immediately made an impact with three great contests. Porter Jr. hit two shots at the rim late to put the Nuggets behind just 24-22 at the end of the first.
The HEAT carried their rhythm from the first quarter and turned the 16-6 run into a 21-9 run. This gave Miami a 10-point lead, up 39-29, forcing a timeout from Malone at the 7:17 mark in the second quarter. His timeout worked, and Denver cut the lead down to 4 with smothering defense. Miami was able to get the lead back up to 9 points after Kyle Lowry hit two threes and Adebayo reached 18 points with multiple shots at the rim. After going just 1-of-15 from three-point range and 3-of-8 from the free-throw line, Denver entered halftime down 51-44.
Denver opened the half on a 13-5 run to tie the ballgame at 60 apiece as Murray started to come alive with 5 points. Neither team could find any sort of rhythm, with both squads under 41 percent shooting the quarter. But then, in what was a welcome sight for Denver, Porter Jr. hit a three-pointer after missing 20 of his 22 previous looks from deep. Miami led 71-70 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jokić took on the scoring mantle in the fourth with 6 early points. Both teams then went on a scoring drought for nearly 3 minutes until Murray hit a wide-open midrange jumper out of a pick-and-roll with Jokić. Butler had one last push in him and hit two late shots from deep, and Caldwell-Pope hit a three in transition to keep it a 4-point game. Butler drew three free throws while fouled in the corner from three and nailed all three to make it a 1-point game with 3:21 remaining.
Butler made a floater to give Miami a 1-point lead a possession later, but then Jokić made a layup while posted up against Caleb Martin on a mismatch. Butler drew free throws once more, and Bruce Brown grabbed an offensive rebound for the stick back to bring Denver’s lead back to 1. Butler turned the ball over the next possession while passing out to a teammate on the perimeter, and Miami was forced to foul Caldwell-Pope.
KCP, the only player that had won a championship on Denver’s roster, calmly sunk both free throws to make it a three-point game with 24 seconds remaining. The Nuggets needed one more stop and got it when Butler missed a three-pointer, and Brown sunk two free throws to seal the game and the NBA championship for Denver.

The Heat Take A 3-0 Lead and I Can’t Stand Jimmy Butler
“The running joke is that Jimmy Butler is Michael Jordan’s son, and I don’t find it funny”
Watching the Miami Heat, is my least favorite part of the 2023 playoffs.
This entire 2023 playoffs has been one long troll job as far as I’m concerned and it all started when those damn Miami Heat proceeded to absolutely wreck the Milwaukee Bucks and while the Sixers were unable to keep my playoff hopes going, I was still kind of leaning on the idea that there was no way the Heat could make the Finals because they aren’t the best team in the Conference.
After taking a 2-0 series lead and taking home court from the “vaunted” Boston Celtics, you had to assume game 3 would be different and the Celtics would finally snap out of whatever this was.
They didn’t. A 128-102 blowout that ended way before the end of the 4th quarter and Jimmy Butler trolled his way through game 3 and the J&J twins, should look at themselves with great dissappointment, and for Jaylen Brown to make so much noise about leaving the team and then come up with 12 points is an indictement of him and what he thinks his value is as an NBA superstar.
Of course, the Boston Celtics looked like a super team in thier comfort zones against the Milwaukee Bucks and then against my Sixers, but the minute they actually have to play, and they actually have to earn every possession and every point, they become the deer in the headlights that we all know Jaylen and Jayson really are.
Jaylen Brown kind of alluded to this in the press conference following game 3, when he gave props to Gabe Vincent, Caleb Martin, Duncan Robinson and Maxi Struss, saying that “we should be able to handle those guys”, and what Jaylen means is that they should be able to not only stop them from shooting, but also attack them off-the-dribble.
Instead the Celtics stars are having the worst individual performances of any star duo in Conference Finals history.
That 4th quarter of game 2, is everything you need to know about the Celtics star players. Jayson Tatum didn’t have a 4th quarter field goal in games 1 or 2 of this series, he didn’t get a chance end this wretched stat in game 3, instead ending the game with just 14 points on 6-18 shooting from the field.
Niether of the stars look up to the challenge of mounting a comeback and it’s probably time for them to get ready for Cancun.
Lastly, I will never ever find joy in anything Jimmy Butler does because he should have been doing this in Philly for the Sixers, and with Joel Embiid!!!!!
It makes me sick that we had this guy and out of dysfunction, stupidity, lack of communication, lack of leadership or lack of vision, we don’t get this version of the absolute scoring, clutch, 2-way machine on our roster, and it’s emotionally taxing to watch Jimmy Butler in the 2023 playoffs.
The running joke on social media and in Youtube comment sections, is that Jimmy Butler is Michael Jordan’s son, and I don’t find the joke funny. At all. It’s absolutely not funny. It’s low brow, sophmoric, toilet humour, and I’m more of a George Carlin guy.
Jimmy isn’t exactly lighting it up in terms of scoring either, falling off a whole bunch from the numbers he had against Milwaukee, but that’s the sad part about it.
Some anonymous NBA scout made sports television news on Friday when he apparently made the same observations about Jimmy Butlers game not being as athletic or forceful as you would see from a prime LeBron, for instance.
The scout was right with some of observations, and very wrong with others, such as compaing him to Kawhi Leonard, but what hurts is that you can easily imagine this version of Jimmy playing along side another star player like a Joel Embiid and we had him. Do you understand that? We had him on our roster!!!!!!!!
So the pain of the 2023 has been compounded ten-fold knowing that once a upon a time, we had this guys on the Sixers and we just couldn’t get out of our own way long enough to see it, and now here he is, about to lead the Heat to the Finals for the 2nd time in 3 years.
Nice isn’t it?

Useless Headcanon #89345 | A Warren Sibling Thing™
Cora has nightmares. They’re worse when she’s stressed or lonely or sad - she tosses, she turns, she wakes up crying and shaking uncontrollably. They started when her mom died, and only got worse through the years. She has had the occasional night terror. They’re not as bad when she has someone in bed with her (hmm, I wonder if that’s related at all to her penchant for sleeping around...). Point being, Caleb had to figure it the fuck out. Martin would only exacerbate them by yelling or punishing her (for dreaming, when I tell you he was the worst...). Mostly it meant Caleb sitting up with her, ‘keeping watch’ if you will (and now you have to consider if that has anything to do with why he doesn’t sleep so much...), reading to her, etc. when she was going through a rough patch. Not an every night thing, but frequent enough, especially when Martin was sick and toward the end of his life. Caleb started playing guitar to her when he was learning, and it... worked. They don’t know why, they don’t care to know why (are all of my muses made of magic in some subtle way? who knows??), but if he plays guitart for a little while for her, it will knock her out, and keep her there. So when she went to college, they knew they’d have to do something, right? Or Caleb did. Cora didn’t bring it up. She would just suffer through it, ya know? Not good enough for her older brother. He took his guitar and recorded some songs for her. They’re not perfect, and the sound quality isn’t the best, but she took them to school with her, and they’re one of her most prized “possessions”. He re-recorded some of them more recently and they live in her phone, and they still work their magic while she’s on the road today.

The Associated Press contributed to this story. Anunoby made a 3-pointer with 6:57 left to get Toronto within two, but Miami scored the next seven points in a span of 59 seconds - a basket by Adebayo, a corner 3 from Max Strus and a driving layup by Caleb Martin for a 98-89 lead. Herro scored the last five points of the third quarter, then had the first bucket of the fourth to put Miami up by seven. There were 22 lead changes and 10 ties in the first 35 minutes, knotting the teams at 75 late in the third. I was kind of looking forward to seeing what that was going to be like." The game was expected to be the first time that Heat guard Kyle Lowry faced the Raptors since leaving Toronto for Miami this past season. It was a hell of an effort by our guys.'' "I didn't see anything that was changing. "We played as tough as we could,'' Raptors coach Nick Nurse said. The only other Raptor who got minutes was Justin Champagnie, who played 9:07 before leaving with a dislocated finger. Toronto basically used a six-man rotation, with those players getting between 34 and 42 minutes. Siakam scored off a turnover with 1:48 left to get Toronto within 99-96, but PJ Tucker made a corner 3 with 20 seconds left - off Butler's 10th assist - to help Miami hold on. Scottie Barnes scored 16 points, OG Anunoby scored 14 and former Heat forward Precious Achiuwa grabbed 15 rebounds for Toronto. VanVleet finished with 22 points for Toronto, which got 23 from Chris Boucher and 18 points and 10 rebounds from Pascal Siakam. "I'm just happy Jimmy got the triple-double and we got the win," said Adebayo, who ended up playing 32 minutes in his return and wore a wrap to protect his repaired thumb. "You can see his energy out there," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said after his team pulled into a virtual tie with Chicago for first in the Eastern Conference.

Air Force: 2022 Armed Forces Bowl Champions
Air Force football (10-3) capped the 2022 season with a resounding 30-15 win over Baylor (6-7) at the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Thursday night at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the campus of TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons reached double-figures in wins for the third-straight full season.
After a close 9-7 lead at the half, the Falcons out-scored the Bears 21-8 in the second half to roll to the win.
The Falcons racked up 276 yards rushing on the ground, led by senior quarterback Haaziq Daniels and senior running back Brad Roberts. Daniels threw for two touchdowns and 103 yards passing. In addition, Daniels ran for 81 yards and one touchdown. For his efforts, Daniels took home bowl game MVP honors for the second straight season.
Roberts capped a standout season and career with his 11th 100-yard rushing game for the season, with 116 yards on 37 carries, including two touchdowns. Roberts finished the season with a school-record 1,728 yards rushing and his 17 rushing TDs tied for eighth. His 3,541 career rushing yards is third all-time at Air Force and the most by a fullback. His 35 career rushing touchdowns is third at Air Force and the most by a fullback. After forcing a Baylor punt to start the game, Air Force scored on its first possession, grinding out a 15-play, 55-yard drive that took 8:44 off the clock to take a 6-0 lead after the extra point was blocked. Roberts capped the drive with a two-yard plunge off the right side for the touchdown.
The Falcons forced another Baylor punt and drove right back down the field to score on a 37-yard field goal by Matt Dapore to go ahead 9-0 with 1:13 to play in the first quarter.
Baylor pulled to within two points right before the half with a touchdown. The Bears drove 47 yards on six plays, capped by an eight yard touchdown pass by quarterback Blake Shapen to wide receiver Hal Presley with five seconds to play before the half to make it a 9-7 game.
Air Force re-took the momentum in the second half, opening with a touchdown on just five plays to go ahead 16-7. The Falcons went 83 yards, capped by a two-yard run by Daniels. Setting up the touchdown score was a 68-yard pass from Daniels to wide receiver Amari Terry.
The Falcons extended the lead with a touchdown after stopping Baylor on downs. Air Force went 64 yards on six plays, capped by a 15 yard touchdown pass by Daniels to tight end Caleb Rillos, to make the score 23-7.
Air Force made it 30-7 on another Roberts touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. The drive went for 42 yards on seven plays.
Baylor scored a late touchdown and converted the two-point attempt to make it 30-15. The Bears went 85 yards on four plays, capped by a 14 touchdown reception by receiver Gavin Holmes.
The Falcons recovered the onside kick with 3:34 to play and took the clock down to 22 seconds to essentially run out the clock.
Air Force held Baylor to 230 yards of offense and just 42 yards rushing. The Falcons held the ball for 40 minutes and three seconds and limited Baylor to just 19:57 with the ball.

books I’m getting rid of (part 1)
So I’m moving!
One thing that means is just. Getting rid of a lot of shit because I don’t want to move it. I’m going to be doing a lot of destashing, but this post is specifically about books. These are just the books on my bookshelf; I’m sure I will find many more by the time I’m done, and that’ll be in part 2.
I’ll be donating at least 25% and using the rest for moving expenses. I’m thinking Immigration Equality, the Hispanic Federation, or Dysautonomia International for the donation? But I’m open to suggestions.
Anyway, I didn’t want to futz around with how much to charge for the books, so let’s just say $5 for the paperbacks, $10 for the hardbacks, plus shipping. (Let’s say like $3.50 a book for shipping, unless we’re dealing in a lot of hardbacks or something. I think that’s about right for media mail + mailer? If you’re getting a ton of books or you’re outside the US, we’ll talk.)
Feel free to haggle or ask questions about edition, condition, translation, whatever.
I loved some of these books, I hated some of these books. Some were for class, some for pleasure, some gifts from people who did not know me very well. All of them are taking up a lot of room.

an exorcist ficlet where Marcus learns from Mother Bernadette a new style of exorcism, but instead of it being compassion through the word of G-d, it's passion through the lyrics of musicals. Mother Bernadette with a theater troupe is all i'm saying
When Rose asked Harper if she wanted to do some theater thisspring, Harper said no. Then Harper went away, had dinner, fell asleep, had anightmare, woke up, cried for a while, went back to sleep, and called Rose inthe morning. What kind of theater, Harper asked quietly. Quietly was the onlyway she ever asked things.
With other kids, Rose replied.
Did Harper have to, Harper asked.
No, no, no, of course not, Rose assured her.
Harper chewed her lips. She chewed her lips a lot, and herlips looked like it.
“Okay,” Harper said, but quietly, very quietly, so thatmaybe Rose wouldn’t hear her, and then Harper wouldn’t really have to do it.
Rose heard her. She said this was great. She said she’d callthe school right away. She told Harper she was proud of her.
Harper hung up, and tried to figure out the differencebetween excitement and dread.
The school put on two shows a year, a play in the winter anda musical in spring. Harper missed the play. She’d still been in the hospitalwhile St. Benedict’s had muddled through AMidsummer Night’s Dream. Sister Simone had declared it the theaterdepartment’s greatest production since ByeBye Birdie, the year before. Mother Bernadette, of course, had been officiallysilent on her opinion, but everyone spoke almost in a daze about how she had smiledand given a solemn thumb’s up.
Rose was the one who signed Harper up for theater, but itwas Andy’s idea. “She’s shy and she loves musicals,” he told her after one ofHarper’s check-ins. “It’s a perfect way to get her to hang out with some kidsher own age who aren’t her new siblings.” Harper still wasn’t back in school. Shehadn’t been in school for months, well before CPS took her from her mother’s house, and she refused to go now. Andy taught her and Grace at home; Rose checked inonce a week. It wasn’t a perfect set up but it was going well. Harper had spokento Caleb unprompted just last week. She’d let Verity drag her outside. They’d skippedrocks at the lake. Shelby had given her a piggyback ride home.
(“I have a demon in me,” she’d whispered into Shelby’s back, and his grip had tightened. “Mom tried to get rid of it. That’s why they took meaway.”
Shelby believed in God and The Bible and the literalexistence of demons, but he also had seen the state Harper had been in whenAndy had brought her home from the hospital, and he had prayed with her throughthe nightmares since. He had no doubt there’d been a demon in Harper’s home, but he doubted it had been in Harper.)
Andy walked Harper to the school a few times before theywent it. Andy said Harper didn’t have to go in until she wanted to. Harper wantedto, but she couldn’t. Andy told her that was alright. He texted Father Marcusbefore they set out, then texted him when they got back. Not today, padre, hesent.
That’s fine, FatherMarcus texted back. (Andy did not know how much time those words took, Marcushunched over his flip phone and scowling through his reading glasses whileMother Bernadette silently laughed at him.) Tellher she is always welcome.
(“You’re good with them,” Mother Bernadette told FatherMarcus during what he had dubbed her profane hour, which they spent sharing acup of tea and moaning about their lives.
“Course I am,” he replied as he stole a bit of muffin offher plate. “I’m very charming.”
“Hmm.” She conveyed quite a lot of doubt in one quick hum. Whenhis hand reached back towards her plate, she slapped it away again. “We haven’tgot a theater teacher for the rest of the year, you know.” Father Martin, whoMarcus had been temporarily covering for, had decided in the wake of hispossession and exorcism that life was too short not to take that vacation inBarbados that he’s been dreaming of for three decades.
“Yeah, he sprinted for the airport, didn’t he?” Marcus shookhis head. God knew after two months of cobbling together twelve to eighteenyear olds through Shakespeare, he could understand wanting to take a kip, butfleeing the country seemed excessive. They were good kids. Loud, rambunctious, dramatic, sure, but good.
You could stay on,” she said.
Marcus laughed. Mother Bernadette didn’t. That was whenMarcus realized she was serious.
“I can’t,” he said.
“You have so far,” she replied.
“That was for a job.”
“This is a job.”
“Not my job.”
Mother Bernadette sighed. Marcus was a nice man, when he wishedto be, and more tender than he ought to be by a half, but he did have a horrid martyrdomcomplex. It came with the territory, she supposed. “The world is full ofexorcists, Marcus. Our parish is sorely lacking in theater teachers.” She checkedher watch and used her last moments of speech for the day to say, “God won’tbegrudge you a sabbatical.”
“The Devil might,” Marcus replied, but Mother Bernadetteonly gazed tranquically and silently upon him. The conversation for the day wasover. Silence was, strangely enough, a great way to get the last word.
One week later, Father Marcus announced to his small classthat he was staying on until the end of the year.
The cheers caught him off guard. He never quite knew what todo with approval.)
One day, Andy and Harper walked past the school, and Harpertugged on his sleeve. “What’d you say we go this way today?” Andy said, pretending to be casual and not at all excited and proud. He wasn’t a very goodactor, Harper thought. He wouldn’t do good in theater.
The school was quiet when they walked in, and then louderand louder as they walked back. By the time they were outside the doors to the auditorium, the noise was almost deafening. Even Andy looked concerned by this point. Harperstood on her tiptoes to look through the windows. Sixteen kids sat in a circleon the stage, pounding the floor and screaming while a kid in the centerattempted to breakdance. He wasn’t doing very well until a couple girls grabbedhis legs while he was lying down and helped him spin. “Huh,” said Andy.
“They promise me it’s a real teambuilding activity,” saidFather Marcus behind him. Andy and Harper both jumped. Father Marcus smiledapologetically down at her. He was English and he had a cup of coffee and a bignose. “I take their word for it. Never had anything like this when I was inschool.”
“You’re the theater director?” Andy asked. It didn’t soundlike he’d meant it as a question.
“Interim,” Father Marcus said. “Until the end of the year. Casey’sreally the one running it, her and her sister, they just need a faculty memberto sign off that the kids haven’t started eating each other. You’ll like them,”he said to Harper. “Casey’s looking forward to meeting you. She’s been dyingfor a script supervisor, and I told her you’d be perfect.”
“What’s a script supervisor?” Harper asked.
Father Marcus shrugged. “Beats me. But you’ll be perfect.”
Harper smiled, just a little, and Father Marcus smiled backa lot. The kids in the auditorium all screamed. Harper flinched. Andy rested hishand on her shoulder. Father Marcus sat down on his heels and said, “We’re doingInto The Woods. Have you heard it?”
Harper shook her head.
“Neither had I, till Casey made me listen. It’s good. Schoolonly wants us doing Act One, but Mother Bernadette wants the whole thing, andshe can out argue anyone, even Bennett. She took a vow of silence. Very hard toargue with that.” Father Marcus eyed her. “It’s a good trick, isn’t it? Silence.Holy, if you do it right.”
Harper didn’t say anything.
“Course, yelling’s good too.” He nodded his head towards thedoor. “Which one do you feel like today?”
Yelling, it turned out. It turned out that Harper had beenwaiting a long, long time for a proper scream.

11 and 18 for Caleb & Lilah; 5 and 6 for Marigold and Madelynn; 12 and 15 for Zion and Jade; 21 and 16 for Seth and Verónica; 14 and 25 for Cora and Laurel 🙃
You really said ‘I’ma make this bitch write stuff today’ and fine i’ll do it, babe.
Caleb & Lilah
11. What do they hide from one another?
Caleb hides a lot from her. He doesn’t talk to her about Martin, he doesn’t really talk about Alice, not at first. The thing about Caleb, especially with people he likes? He holds himself back to avoid rejection. He’s not going to risk getting hurt or getting shut down. There’s no fucking point to him. Because as soon as that happens? He’s done with you. So if he really wants you? He’s not going to open up about deeply personal things. He keeps it surface level. He doesn’t talk much to begin with, but he’s around Cora enough to know how to ask endless questions if he cares enough to. Which, with Lilah, he cares enough to. Eventually, yes they will move past this and he will start to unfurl, but it will take awhile.
18. When they fight, how do they make up?
Caleb cooks for her and then goes down on her until she’s begging him to stop, and then maybe for an hour longer after that. And then snuggles, or whatever she wants. Literally whatever she wants.
Marigold & Madelynn
5. Who says ‘I love you’ first?
Goldie. I don’t know I just see her blurting it out while she’s drawing a picture of her or something.
6. Who would they ask if they ever had a threesome? Cora. Will. Cora and Will? I don’t believe in limitations. Numbers are fake.
Zion & Jade
12. What first changes when it starts getting serious?
Zion doesn’t stop playing around with her but he does talk with her more seriously than he did before. That’s how he knows it’s getting serious.
15. When they watch a film what do they choose and why? Who gets the final vote? Literally whatever she wants. He doesn’t care. He just wants her happy. What’s two hours? He can always focus on her if he gets too bored. Seth & Verónica
21. Where do they get nervous about going with one another?
At first he’s nervous when they go into town, because he gets embarrassed by the gossip and shit, but he quickly gets over that.
16. When the zombie apocalypse comes, how do they cope together? He has bunker money, no worries.
Cora & Laurel
14. When one has a cold, what does the other do?
Cora orders soup, gets her medicine and cough drops, makes her tea, runs a bath for her, and just loves on her.
25. Why do they fight? Cora Warren usually only fights for one reason - she gets jealous. The Warren’s have a mean possessive streak, which probably didn’t help Cora & Laurel’s relationship any at all.

|| Useless Headcanon #89345 || A Warren Sibling Thing™
Cora has nightmares. They’re worse when she’s stressed or lonely or sad - she tosses, she turns, she wakes up crying and shaking uncontrollably. They started when her mom died, and only got worse through the years. She has had the occasional night terror. They’re not as bad when she has someone in bed with her (hmm, I wonder if that’s related at all to her penchant for sleeping around…). Point being, Caleb had to figure it the fuck out. Martin would only exacerbate them by yelling or punishing her (for dreaming, when I tell you he was the worst…). Mostly it meant Caleb sitting up with her, ‘keeping watch’ if you will (and now you have to consider if that has anything to do with why he doesn’t sleep so much…), reading to her, etc. when she was going through a rough patch. Not an every night thing, but frequent enough, especially when Martin was sick and toward the end of his life. Caleb started playing guitar to her when he was learning, and it… worked.

► Norman Bates
Norman Bates was a smart, quietly funny, handsome and sometimes shy young man with an intensely close bond with his mother, Norma Bates. At the start of the series, Norman is resistant to starting over in a new town, but changes his mind as he begins to spread his wings. Over the course of the series, he slowly transforms into the iconic character depicted in Robert Bloch's popular novel and Alfred Hitchcock's film adaption of that novel, Psycho.
Norman lived in Arizona with his parents, Norma and Sam Bates. Norman killed Sam after his father beat Norma, but didn't remember the event afterwards. Norma made it look like it was an accident, where a shelf fell on Sam, in order to protect Norman.
After Norman found his father's body crushed under a shelf in their garage, the two remaining Bates moved to White Pine Bay. There, they planned to start a new life and run an old motel together. Soon after their move, Norman was befriended by Bradley Martin and Emma Decody.
The former owner of the motel, Keith Summers, believed that the property was rightfully his, and after stalking Norma, he then raped her. While rapping Norman, Norman comes in and saves her, but Norma then killed Summers out of rage. Norman and Norma covered up Summers' death by dumping his body in a river, but were still suspected by the town's sheriff, Alex Romero.
One day, Dylan Massett showed up at Norma's doorstep, saying that he has no other place to stay. That night, Dylan got a call from Norma, who was programmed in his phone as "The Whore". Norman saw this, and confronted Dylan. A fight broke out between the two. Norman was easily overpowered by his older brother, who threatened to hurt him "bad" if he ever struck him again. Nevertheless, Norman grabbed a meat tenderizer and swung it at Dylan, who evaded it and gave Norman a black eye.
After spending the summer with his mother at the motel, Norman returned to school as a senior, but ran home after hallucinating Blaire Watson. Because of this, Norma decided to homeschool him. Dylan confronted her about letting Norman sleep in her bed, and, as a result, she set some boundaries which displeased him. She also decided to make him motel manager. Although Norman took an immediate interest in the motel's new guest, Annika, he decided to finally ask Emma out. That evening, Norma caught him spying on Annika showering through an open bathroom window. She berated him and he promised not to do it again. When Annika asked for directions into town, Norman offered to show her the way and while driving she told him about her work. He told her where to take a turn. Later, as Emma left the motel to return home, Norma arrived back with Annika's car but she was nowhere to be found.
Norma became curious when Annika failed to return home, especially after Norman had lied about not being with her and Emma stating otherwise. Norman and Emma went on their date and discussed sex as an important step into adulthood.
Norman awoke in a field, covered in cuts and arguing with "Mother". A farmer discovered him and knocked him out when Norman tried to attack him. Norman was transported to a psychiatric hospital with no idea of what he was doing there. A doctor informed Norman that she suspected Norman of being dangerous and wanted to keep him in for a 48-hour observation. However, Norma brought Norman home and while cutting his hair, Norman told her about the "dream" he had that she had killed Bradley. He made her promise not to send him back to the mental institution. Norma let him sleep in her bed but while she went out, he awoke to find himself locked in her room. Furious, he repeatedly banged on the door and managed to break through the door leading to his room. He put on Norma's nightgown and sat in front of the mirror, transforming into "Mother". When Audrey Decody called to the house, "Mother" answered the door and invited her in for tea. Audrey explained her situation and "Mother" asked her what kind of mother would abandon her own child before strangling her to death with her own scarf.
Picking up over two years after the end of Season 4, Norman was busy running the motel on his own while also having his own struggles with "Mother", who was upset that she could not go outside. He told her the new shower curtains looked great in the motel and that he was heading into town to buy more paint. While in the hardware store, he met a young married woman named Madeleine Loomis. When he found that he had a wallet belonging to another man, he said he would pay later for the paint and rushed home where he enquired from "Mother" about the mystery wallet which he knew nothing about. He also checked his diary which contained a list of things he did during the day as well as his blackouts.
When a young man showed up at the motel requesting a room, Norman said that he could book one for the night. After the man checked into the room, Norman went into the motel office, removed the painting and spied on the man having sex with an unknown person. It appeared that he was masturbating until a phone call from "Mother" told him dinner was ready. Over dinner, they argued about how things were going and she got angry when he revealed that he had met Madeleine. Later he attempted to leave the house, only to be stopped by a clearly jealous "Mother", who then dragged him down to the basement and showed him a dead male stuffed in the freezer. Through flashback, it was revealed that the man had showed up intending to kill Norman but "Mother" got to him first. They decided to dump the body in the lake but as they were doing so, the man's cellphone rang and when Norman answered it, Romero was on the end of the line asking for the man.
Norman is a bright young man and appears polite around others. He is also protective of Norma and feels guilty about disappointing her. He has lots of anger and occasionally lashes out at Norma or Dylan, but always comes to regret it due to his close and emotional bond with his mother. He also seems to feel a unhealthy sexual attraction to Norma.
Norman occasionally goes into a fugue state, during which time he attacks those who threaten Norma. He will then black out and not remember the event. For example, when Sam Bates beat Norma, Norman struck Sam in the head with a blender, but doesn't recall the ordeal. Norma made it look like a freak accident where a shelf fell on Sam. Another example is when Dylan Massett disrespected Norma. Norman tried to bludgeon him, but Dylan punched him. He didn't remember it and Dylan ended up telling him what happened. In the episode What's Wrong With Norman, while Norman is in bed, he sees a visual and auditory hallucination of Norma advising him to go search for Summers' belt at Deputy Shelby's house. While Norman really believes Norma told him to do so, Norma tells Norman in Trust Me that sometimes he imagines stuff that doesn't actually happen. In the episode The Man in Number 9, Norman is seen talking to himself as if in a dialogue after an argument with Bradley which is a sign of a psychotic episode. In the episode Midnight, Norman experienced a blackout between the time Miss Watson drove him to her home and he sees her undress herself inside her room and before the time he is running home from the rain. In addition, Norman had possession of Miss Watson's pearls but he doesn't remember acquiring it. All these evidence suggests that Norman is psychotic as he experiences many auditory and visual hallucinations and is unable to recall specific events beyond what is normal forgetfulness. In Norman's case, he does not remember his violent encounters almost immediately after they occur.
Cody drives Norman to Caleb's motel so they can beat him up. Norman recalls in his mind the time Norma confessed her brother used to force her into sex as a child. Norman then has a visual hallucination of Norma getting raped by Caleb. At the end of the episode, Norman heads to Caleb's place and takes full possession of Norma's character. In his Norma-mode, Norman accuses Caleb of raping him and says, “I was your little sister you should have protected me.” Norman's embodiment of his mother indicates that Norman possibly has Dissociative Identity Disorder as well.
Following his mother's death, half of Norman began to deny her death and after digging up her corpse he began to imagine "Mother" living with him in their own paradise, and as part of the delusion he saw her death as faked and that she had to live in isolation. Over the next two years the blackouts began to get out of control, as the episode Dark Paradise shows Norman looking through his diary in which he is recording the blackouts and they are getting far more frequent, to the point they happen at least once a week and for almost a whole day. The illusion of "Mother" starts to come into question when Norman is reminded by Dr. Edwards that he can see things that are not actually there. "Mother" eventually reveals to Norman that he indeed create her to combat horrible situations that he would otherwise be emotionally unequipped to confront by himself. It is later discovered that Norman had been hallucinating his meeting with Dr. Edwards when the later had reminded him about his hallucinations, since the doctor disappeared some time after Norma's death. By the time he confesses to Sam Loomis' murder, the "Mother" persona has completely taken over Norman.
Throughout the course of the series Norman has appeared to be very confused about the theme of sexuality. He has been seen sleeping with Cody Brennen, Bradley Martin and Blaire Watson, ultimately killing the latter two in his "Mother" persona. He also dated Emma Decody in order to make his mother jealous, although she advised him against sleeping with her which led to them splitting up. He spied on motel guest Annika Johnson while she was showering and confessed to Norma later on that he may have a sexual attraction to her.
Although he has never shown any physical attraction to members of the same sex, in the episode Shadow of a Doubt he attended a beach memorial where Cody's male friend attempted to touch his leg. When Cody told him that her friend was gay Norman insisted that he was not. However in the final season episode Dreams Die First, he was seen in a bar where all of the patrons appeared to know who he was and the bartender told him to take the drinking easy since things had been wild the night before. While in the restroom, an attractive man approached him and tried to kiss him, which led to him freaking out when he had a vision of "Mother" having sex with the man, leading to the conclusion that he had made several visits to the same bar in his "Mother" persona in the year and a half following Norma's death.
