||The Witcher tarot | Wheel of Fortune | Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon||
[Other cards of the Witcher tarot can be found here and on my Instagram art account]
[DO NOT REPOST OR REUSE WITHOUT LEGAL AND EXPLICIT AUTHORIZATION]
This card was a bit tricky, because at first I didn’t know who to draw on it. It has a strong meaning related to destiny, fate, karma, changes (even unwelcomed ones) and turning points ; so Ciri was a good choice. But I wasn’t entirely convinced yet. And then I remembered the chapter when her whole lineage is unfolded by the Lodge of Sorceresses. And I thought that she is indeed the Child of Destiny, but even more than that a lot of her female ancestors played a major role in her fate, that she is partly a product of that. More than everything else, Ciri is also the one who breaks this cursed lineage – quite literally the wheel of the Lara Dorren cursed descendance.
I could have put Falka along with Lara Dorren, Calanthe and Pavetta, but I decided against it as I was first tempted to draw her on another card.

'The King...' stammered Crach. 'Is at sea, Modron. He is looking for the remains... And the bodies. Since yesterday...' 'Why did he let them?' shouted the queen. 'How could he allow it?'

going insane about the different way pavetta and calanthe appear in ciri’s visions…. pavetta all pristine and perfect because that’s all ciri ever knew of her, and calanthe bloodied and dressed down because it reflects ciri’s final memories of her

Broke: Calanthe should have killed Duny because the national interest is more important than some abracadabra bullshit, come on.
Woke: Calanthe should have let Duny marry Pavetta because you don't want to mess with the fate when you live in a magical world.
Bespoke: Calanthe should have killed Duny because he's a fucking pedophile.

Would Ciri really let fake Ciri and Emhyr continue to trick Cintra?
I know many think that Ciri prefers to be a witcheress, it makes sense she never shows interest in recovering her kingdom, not because she doesn't care about the fate of her homeland but because the amount of trauma and persecution she faces doesn't give her time or mental clarity to think carefully what to do, Ciri is a girl who has been constantly dragged by the tide of events and decisions that others make for her. But what would happen if, after healing emotionally and managing to control her power, she decides that she wants to recover her crown? What will she do? What will happen when, upon arriving in Cintra, he sees a false Ciri? When they tell him that a girl who pretended to be her married the guy who invaded his country and caused the death of his family? And if he discovers the real reason for the invasion of Cintra because her own father valued what a piece of paper and the words of a dishonest magician said more than the well-being of his daughter?
It would be a disaster and I don't think like many that Ciri is just going to turn around and never come back, she's going to be furious with Emhyr and she's going to want revenge, I remind you of Ciri's time with the rats, she's no stranger to spilling blood because it is upset, although I got over that phase seeing your biological father who tried to rape you to engender the king of the world living a full and happy life while your own life thanks to him has been hell can return it to that phase again.
Could he really be nice to fake Ciri? Many believe that Ciri will instantly understand the circumstances of the impostor girl. But if she is still angry because, after all, that girl is an accomplice to a deception by an invading nation to usurp the throne of Cintria, which the false Ciri does not have? right? And if even if she likes her, she refuses to let the charade continue, everyone believes that Ciri is going to allow her compatriots to continue being deceived and that she is going to focus on feeling sorry for a young woman forced to take her place. reverse? She pities fake Ciri but demands that she stop using her name and titles because they don't belong to her.
How will the people of Cintra react when the truth is revealed? That his true lost princess has returned and she is not the girl with the sad green eyes portrayed in that painting in the royal gallery of Cintra betrothed to the Emperor of Nifgaard but a woman with the powers of the ancient blood, with the training of a Witcher and the skills of a sorceress; that in addition the consort of the deceased princess Pavetta and the emperor are the same person and that the subject caused the death of his first wife and started a massacre just to commit incest with his own daughter, they were already revealing themselves from imperial control when unexpectedly their princess was found by Nifgaard and married the conqueror of Cintra, forcing them to lay down their arms. Those people are going to want blood, Ciri is going to want blood, and the rest of the northern kingdoms will very likely back her if she wants the crown that rightfully belongs to her.
I don't feel sorry for Emhyr at all when he faces the consequences of his vile acts motivated by a mere prophecy, that idiot was lucky that the author of Witcher wanted to end the saga quickly because another writer like George R.R. Martin would take decades to explain the consequences realistic to make decisions based on prophecies especially if you are in a position of great power with people who depend on you. Emhyr could take on his magically powerful daughter and a bunch of rationally pissed off people, looking for his head while not forgetting that his own people won't be happy that their ruler dragged them into a war with a nation they could have peacefully annexed by their marriage. with Pavetta otherwise he would have been obsessed with forcing his daughter to give birth to a son/brother who would supposedly save the world but in the end he did not have the strength to carry out the act but even so he chose to usurp his own daughter as how did the usurper with him, and give his inheritance to a young woman similar to her with whom he fell in love, I know it is more complicated than that and it was at that time the only way Emhyr saw to solve the mess he got everyone into But it doesn't change how that not only ruined Ciri's life but also that of hundreds who couldn't claim justice because they chose to be loyal to Queen Calanthe's granddaughter when that girl was an impostor.
The only one I really feel sorry for is false Ciri, she was a girl who lost everything in the war and unlike Ciri fate did not magically bind her to a monster hunting protector, that girl had to go through refugee camps and then through the child labor until being kidnapped and forced to assume the identity of another person who could die because no one is going to look for her because everyone thinks it's you.
That girl had to get used to a different culture while having to look like a Cintrian princess, most likely her life before the Cintra massacre was not very good because of how she clung to Lady Stella, Emhyr and her role as Princess Cirilla for the sake of it. comfort that each one gave her, and she refuses to give it up even if the real Ciri rightfully demands it, it would be a tragedy to see these two poor war orphans face each other.
And I think that the Cintrians themselves are going to treat her as a prostitute of the emperor who took the place of her true princess without empathizing with her tragedy.
What do you think?

damn. what really gets me about the witcher s1e4 is, after everything's said and done and pavetta & duny are to marry, no matter how 'romantic' their joining appears, pavetta is being used just as yennefer explains in her timeline, as a vessel. 🥲 duny doesn't love her.
Tumblr media
to him, she's a step in a ladder, a tool. i never got this far in the books so i didn't realize who he really was but i was truly convinced by duny's acting here that he cared for her. he's so convincing!!! it's not destiny. poor calanthe.
i guess maybe the difference between books + show is, maybe duny DOES love her in this version of the story? but from later episodes it does not appear so. i mean he carelessly throws her/their portraits into a fire. so i think this still stands.

" what's that, mama? " the little princess tilted her head with curiosity. pavetta's lips curled into a soft smile as she opened up the shawl she's been weaving for her mother. " it is a present for your grandmamma. " she explained. ciri gasped loudy. " a present! do i get one too? " she asked, and her mother only put her hand tenderly on her little head. " no, my sweet. it is grandmamma's special occasion. " she said. ciri puffed out her cheeks. " what ocassion? " a soft chuckle like gentle chimes on the wind left the crown princess. " it is mother's day, ciri. "
mother's day.... ciri thought about it for a second or two, and then realized. her mama was mother too. her mother. and if mama was making a gift for grandmamma, then should she not make one for her in turn?
with sudden surge of energy, she ran out of the room without a word.
***
" grandpapa!! " the little princess ran into the stables with a shriek, unable to stop her run she collided with the king's legs with a quiet 'umpf'. small arms wrapping around his thighs as she looked up at the bushy beard. " it's mother's day!! " she exclaimed.
eist laughed, nodding his head. leaning down to pick up the little rascal, so they could be on the same eye level as they spoke. " aye, so it is. " he agreed. ciri's cheeks filled up with air once more, turning pink.
" i have no gift for mama. " she whined with complaint. an exagarrated gasp entering the skelliger's lungs. " oh no! whatever shall we do? " he asked. willing to give the earth, the heaven and the sea to the little girl in his arms.
" take me to the beach! " she demanded. without question, the king mounted his horse, sitting the princess safely in front of him. always happy to go along with whatever the little she-devil made up in her mind.
***
" happy mother's day, mama. " pavetta said, shyly presenting the hand-woven shawl of emerald green to the queen. calanthe smiled, pulling her daughter close, red lips pressed to her forehead as she accepted the silken fabric. brushing her fingers against it. " oh, thank you, my dear. this is most thoughtful. " she said, pavetta fidgeting softly with her hair, but happy, clearly. pleased with herself.
the moment was nearly ruined, as cirilla, sand in her hair, clinging to her dress and hands, ran into the solar. " mama!! " she yelled. the scream startling the crown princess slightly, and she turned to face her daughter. " what happened? did you fall? " she asked with concern, but there was no tears, only a self-satisfied grin on the five year old's face.
" for you! for mother's day! " she said, producing the biggest, most colorful conchshell she could find. pavetta, stunned by the gesture, accepted the gift with gentle hands.

A warm smile came to her face at hearing how he would read to her again, but even more so, it came from hearing they would be seeing their daughter soon. It still bugged Pavetta that she couldn't entirely remember anything about Cirilla. It was like a puzzle still waiting to be solved.
But at least she had come to remember her husband again.
And then her moment of joy was soon darkened with a reminder that her mother had tried keeping their daughter from Duny. Why was that? A feeling of dread washed over her, as if like a warning. "I hope she brings Cirilla too. I want to see her." The feeling only continued to grow, making her feel a bit concerned. "Duny...did my mother ever explain why she refused to give you our daughter?"
Even for all the battle's she would have with her mother, Pavetta had this feeling deep inside her that told her there must be a logical explanation for it. Her mother wouldn't just keep a child from her parents? Would she?
Tumblr media
"Well perhaps I can find a good book to read to you from again." He could find something for her in their massive collection that much he was certain of. He did not shun knowledge, and he made certain that it was collected well preserved into his library. Only a fool would burn such knowledge as they were doing in Redania. The idea alone made him shudder. All those ideas that they had forever burned away. Never to be read or spoken again. "I suspect you'll be quite furious with her again." He knew that things were not going to go easy between mother and daughter, but he hoped that her happiness at her being alive would outweigh whatever animosity was between them. "I hope that she'll arrive shortly with our daughter. It has been far too long."
