Thank you, Travalanche friend Anthony Di Florio, for letting me know about Italian-American entertainer Eduard Migliaccio, a.k.a Farfarfello (1880-1946). Migliaccio was a star of New York’s Italian language theatre scene as well as the Caffe Concerto milieu we wrote about here. He also performed on records, radio, and film. His character’s name means “the Little Butterfly”, an idiomatic nickname…

Concerto Bakery Caffe, 3500 W 6th St #117, Los Angeles (Koreatown), CA 90020

Concerto is a Korean bakery inside City Center. I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer variety of items that they bake in-house. They had many types of cupcakes, macarons, sweet and savory buns (e.g, red bean, sausage, soboro), salt & butter rolls, croquettes, pre-made sandwiches, several types of castella cake, garlic cream cheese bread, mochi, loaves of bread, full size cakes, cake slices, cookies, doughnuts, manjoo, mont blanc, Napoleons, croissants, etc. Some items were wrapped in individual clear plastic bags. With others, you have to put the item in a clear plastic bag yourself.

Prices were clearly posted on each sign. The sign was in English and Korean.

Garlic salt & butter roll ($3.75): soft and chewy, very good, slightly crunchy on the bottom, sweet and buttery with a hint of salt. Definitely addictive.

Sweet potato cream bun ($3.75): A big bun with a thin shell, a ton of whipped cream, and lots of mashed sweet potato. The bun was soft. The cream and sweet potato paired surprisingly well. The outside was dusted with purple powder so that it looked like a sweet potato.

Coffee Cinnamon castella ($4): firmer and flatter than regular coffee cake, less sweet as well. However, the castella was still soft the next day and it was covered in cinnamon crumble. Liked it a lot.

The bakery is large with lots of seating and free wi-fi. They’ll also validate parking for two hours. They also seem to be very serious about their coffee, offering seven kinds of pour over coffee.

Yesterday, I met up with @lyrhia-art from the @ssminibang and it was great to meet someone who I had talked to a lot online, in person. We went to Caffe Concerto and generally, I'm not a person with a sweet tooth, but since it was such a lovely, fancy place, I decided to choose something decadent. So I ordered this absolutely delicious chocolate fondant with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

Lavorare da casa e’ fantastico (avendo lo spazio e una linea decente, obviously).

Musica soft, cicchino, silenzio. No telefono. No gente che si muove, deambula, parla. Un po’ mi mancano i due-minuti-due al caffe’ con CollegaSviluppatore, ma nemmeno troppo, tutto considerato. Il caffe’ e’ piu’ buono a casa mia.

E’ da sabato che non esco di casa (fino a venerdi’ lavoravo in ufficio, ora sono in turn over quindicinale); ho scoperto di avere dei vicini dei quali ignoravo completamente l’esistenza. Cmq, se escludo questo di sotto che urla sempre a tutte le ore (spesso anche mentre tromba - ora non tromba cmq) e che quindi sapevo gia’ che esistesse, tutto sommato ho dei vicini decenti. Molti secondo me non vivono, ma aspirapolverano, forse nella speranza di risucchiare il vairus, non so.

La Signoradellacasadifronte fa due lavatrici al giorno, e ha una lavatrice che a fine ciclo di lavaggio fa un mini concerto che sembra la suoneria di un cellulare anni 90. Gliela spaccherei a martellate, invece quando ci vediamo dalle rispettive terrazze ci sorridiamo.

La Vicinadisinistra ha un allevamento di gatti di non so che razza, li tiene sul balcone. Fanno un concerto che mi verrebbe voglia di scavalcare il divisorio e domandarle se puo’ far qualcosa per questi poveri gatti che miagolano di continuo; ma dobbiamo rispettare le distanze quindi mi devo sorbire il lamento delle bestiole.

Faccio videochiamate con le mie sorelle, non ci siamo mai sentite tanto come in questi giorni.

Per come la vedo io, questa potrebbe essere la mia vita ideale, solo con un pochino di liberta’ di azione in piu’. Mi manca andare a far foto nei posti sperduti e in generale l’idea di poter fare cose (che comunque non facevo nemmeno quando potevo, quindi.)

Holidays are over. 6 days of eating like tomorrow is the end of the world. I live here our London food tour in case any of you might like to go.

1. Muriel’s Kitchen: you may have to wait in line for about 15 min more or less but it’s gonna be worthy. Breakfasts and brunchs options are superb.

2. Caravan City: second time we go there; in my opinion, one of the best brunchs of the city.

3. Streetxo London: for lovers of flavors explosions although a little too expensive in my opinion.

4. Bird: for chicken lovers like myself.

5. Caffe Concerto: a trip to French pastries in the heart of London.

6. Honest Burger: there are not many options in the menu but it’s perfect if you love hamburgers and you are tired of the McDonnalds ones. Here they are grilled (not fried) and they only use natural products
