Actually not a ringtail, at least in the common species name sense. The main differences between the two are that cacomistles are bigger, less carnivorous, and the black bands go all the way around the tail.

#cacomixtle#cacomistle#procyonidae#procyonids#not quite a ringtail#but acceptable to call it that#just so long as you don't call it a lemur#I know astutus means clever but what does sumichrasti mean?#“Half mountain lion”?#that's what cacomistle means in the native language it came from#update: apparently it's after the psuedonym of the guy who “discovered” the species#Adrien Louis Jean François Sumichrast#guy really got around too#there's 11 species named after him

did you know. that in certain areas. when you go out at night there's a little guy that looks like this
#I've seen a lot of cacomixtles lately and that reminded me that during the first big lockdown i made a hobby#of spotting them through the window at night and i should do that again but idk if they would still come out bc now we have a dog#🐌

I chose a prompt from a list I haven’t used yet — alebrijes de octubre. Today is tejuino + cacomixtle, or ringtail. I gave it bat wing ears and exaggerated the body and tail shape to make it more fantastic. I should’ve painted it to help it look more authentic but I ran out of time.

Fake cat pokemon
# 13
Normal
Height: 0.3 m / 0' 11"
Weight: 2.6 kg / 5.73 lb
Egg group: Field
Gender ratio: 50% male / 50% female
This pokémon loves to climb large rocks and trees, even in the city. Its fluffy ringed tail can be longer than its body, and it uses it for balance as it hops from side to side.
Not very picky, it eats everything. At night, it goes out to look for as much food as it can. If there are people around, he approaches them with his big eyes and asks for a snack. As soon as it gets some food, it runs away as fast as it can with it in its mouth, leaving behind a trail of berry seeds. This mischievous character helps to spread a wide variety of plants throughout the area.
Bassariscus sumichrasti (Cacomixtle)
