my Caribena versicolor as a sling vs. now as an adult 💜 definitely one of my favourite tarantulas, it's been so fun watching her grow up from a tiny vibrant blue sling to a beautiful multicoloured adult ❤️❤️❤️

if Bean doesnt eat something soon i think i am going to lose it
#personal#theoretically i know c versis can go for months w/o food but. it HAS been months#i'm considering rehousing her/redoing her tank in case she just isnt happy in there anymore#which is my suspicion bc she destroyed part of her web tunnel#it's just scaring me#and also ive never rehoused an adult tarantula#maybe the bottom of the house is too dirty and that's upsetting her? it's hard to spot clean most of it bc of how the cork bark#and her web are placed#so there's some old dead feeders tucked in the back as well as her old molt#and i can re-do the whole substrate if i can get her out and into a different container for a bit#hopefully w a cricket she will eat#half of the problem is i just cant get the crickets TO her#but then even when they do get near her she doesnt eat them#ughhhhh#if anyone has any personal experience getting picky new world arboreals to eat after a long hunger strike PLEASE reach out#also if u read this far u get the additional sad news that my tiny little apache jumping spider has died#fine yesterday. curled under today. poor lil guy :( idk if he reached the end of his lifespan or there was another issue#also sprout hasnt been seen in a few months hopefully she's okay tucked in her cave#but i never did get her sexed and she's 3 years old which...if she's a male that's the end of her lifespan#at least mid-nite is doing exceptionally well and eating ravenously after his post-molting period#doty also ate well today#reminding myself that im Not a terrible spider caretaker and it's normal for c versicolors to be fussy sometimes

State of the pet bugs (most of them anyway)
Maple making shiny eyes for more crickets bc I have only given her a couple small ones this week.
My two sensitive babies. Jumpers with light colored heads look like they're gonna cry with those little shiny eyes. The nameless A. purpurea escaped last night and went on a very tense two minute adventure before I managed to get to it enough to get a capture cup near for it to walk into.
My C. versicolor has been REALLY webbing up its enclosure this week and is spending a lot more time out of the hide. I feel a little bad that after its next molt, I'll be relocating it to an adult sized enclosure.
My cryptids, the moss mantis and new giant shield mantis.
My eternally furious babies, my desert scorpion and Autumn, my pumpkin patch tarantula. Her cheap ass Amazon enclosure is stuck partly open and I'm so glad it closed enough to keep her in but this replacement tank needs to get here FASTER....

I still have two open Tarantula terrariums after the whole… my kitchen exploded and killed 2/3rds of my spiders incident. I should /probably/ get two terrestrials because I found the young c. Versi to be a little challenging (which I think is actually somewhat common for that sp?) but I miss the little blue fucker.
It’s down to a G. pulchra or T. Vagans and another versicolor.
So many choices.

My gorgeous new spider! She is a Caribena versicolor, or Antilles pink-toe, and she just molted into her full adult coloration a week ago.
Her name is Bean!
Bean had been living in the temporary housing I bought her in (at the PACNWRS expo a few weeks ago), because she was in pre-molt at the time and couldn't really be rehoused until after molting and recovery. That little cup wasn't great for visibility, so I couldn't get any nice pictures of her.
But now, her new exoskeleton is all hardened up and she was ready to go to her new home! It's a luxurious little mansion, a Tarantula Cribs Treehouse Large with both top and front opening doors (SO nice to have for maintenance and feeding), and she's got cork bark, silk leaves, and silk flowers to web up to her heart's content. There are some springtails in the soil to help clean up any waste.
Bean is currently 2 years old and nearly 3 inches in diagonal legspan. She is a confirmed female, so if we're lucky, she could live at least another decade and grow another 2-3 inches. The vendor, who raised her from slinghood, told me that she's the calmest C. versicolor she had ever met, and that Bean has been handled consistently since she was large enough to do so safely. Bean has never even threat posed, and when we're a little more comfortable with each other, I'll be taking her out sometimes and handling her as well (with all necessary safety precautions).
Welcome to the family, Bean!

tank is clean! i more than likely won't be visiting the reptarium that's closest to me (3 hours away) and will be going to a pet store that's only an hour away to pick up a pink toed tarantula (C. versicolor). i don't know if they'll be old enough to be sexed when i get them, but i will probably go buy and set up the tank in preparation later today.
these tarantulas, as adults, are easier to care fore as i've read- only eating once every week or so. thing is that these are more arboreal than terrestrial and my current tank offers much more floor space than air space. like it's plenty high for an adult, it's just much longer than it is tall.
also the fact staci kept recommending that i get this one has me extremely worried she'll try and commander and stress the spider our much like what happened with maman. which is why i'd much prefer an old world t rather and a new world t. the threat of getting more hurt will keep staci out of my sweet spider's tank which is preferable. i'd rather have a spider i can't hold than a dead spider.
