Honourable mentions:

Orym. The one who first made us think, is Chetney _____'s dad? Alas, we know from EXU that Orym's biological dad went by the name "Tarrintel" - that is not to say that it was not, perhaps, an alias of Chetney's once upon a time, but it would hardly be consistent branding for C-Pop Industries.

Scanlan. While we know that Scanlan's father was not in his life, Scanlan did at least know enough about his father to say that his name was "Vicou." Again, it's possible that this is another Chetney alias, but be honest, can you really see Chetney ever going by the name "Vicou"? Would also be very awkward with Number 1 on this list...

And now, on to the rankings!

4. Yasha. Does not remember her biological parents, and it's not impossible that Chetney might have swung by southern Xhorhas in his travels. On the whole though, I'd give it worse odds than the other names on this list.

3. Bertrand. International man of mystery Bertrand Bell is so enigmatic that at one point, it was even speculated that he was the Lord of the Crossroads over in Vasselheim. He does appear to be fully human, but it would be mildly funny if he "exited" the story right before his father came in, which is why he's higher than Yasha.

2. Fjord. Who's to say that his other biological parent wasn't a half-orc who had a great night or two with Exandria's best woodworker?

1. Pike. We actually don't know terribly much about the Trickfoot family, or Pike's parents. What we do know is that at some point, Pike's parents left her with her cousins and went to Wynandir. Now would Chetney do a thing like that? Hard to say. There's nothing saying that Pock O'Pea is his birth name - he could mayhaps have been born a Trickfoot who, say, got in really hot water over in Tal'Dorei and had to flee to Wildemount?

In conclusion, Critical Role has spent a great deal of time pondering the all-important question, "What is that mother's name?" However, it is perhaps time that we all start asking, "What is that father's name?" and maybe even, "Are you my freaking dad?"

Yasha absolutely gives a flower to people she likes that represents how she sees them! Probably have many dry ones in a little spot in their home together with categorized collections!

I love the headcanon that Beau has a piece of Molly's old coat somewhere on her that she still hasn't taken off. It's hard for her to let go of that person she once knew yk ?

y’all. the difference in body language between Taliesin and Ashley as Molly and Yasha (constantly leaning into each other with shoulders touching, Molly always being a little more comfortable and a little less tense when she's there, Yasha orienting herself adjacent to Molly in social situations, the easy back-and-forth of their conversations, the intrinsic understanding of each other, the two of them so often with their heads close together to talk shit or compare notes or check in)

vs Taliesin and Ashley as Cad and Yasha (especially when Yasha first comes back - Yasha carefully keeping her distance, leaning away, crossing her arms, rarely looking directly at him, and Cad just sitting still and straight, enigmatic smile on his face, remaining as aloof from her as he does from everyone)...

if i ever have to see another thought piece on the description of the white picket fence outside of fjord and jester’s place in mighty nein reunited indicating jester’s unhappiness in the relationship i will burn the world to the ground.

a) heteronormativity doesn’t exist in exandria !

b) fjord isn’t your Typical Male Love Interest Guy. if i ever have to read someone say that shit again i’m gonna (correctly) assume they haven’t paid attention at all to campaign 2 and any of fjord’s character arc.

c) perhaps, jester lavorre, woman who was raised on the ideology of romance novels and sexuality as exchange, might just find it uh… not a terrible thing that the white picket fence is falling apart outside since… fjord explicitly does Not feel like those romance novels to her, instead he feels comfortable. the way that a brightly painted but rarely used house might, especially when the couple in question spends most of their time adventuring together… which is an essential part of jester’s motivations throughout the campaign.

d) the reason fjord and jester seem unhappy in the reunion might be because, well, uh, whereas everyone else was getting a “vacation”, jester and fjord’s life together (specifically the fact that Fjord Loves Jester Enough To Risk The World (Momentarily) To Save Her) was the inciting action for an apocalyptic demigod being released - they Were unhappy. who wouldn’t be given those circumstances. jester nearly died, and fjord felt like the god that once saved him had now abandoned him, i am so truly sorry that their romance was not satisfactory for your vision of atypical romance (which, by the way, is literally reinforcing the restrictive romantic tropes you think you’re criticizing, so good job i guess). i would be much, much more concerned if jester and fjord Weren’t clearly dismayed.

e) both fjord and jester are individuals whose entire lives and character are defined by the expectation (both external and internal) that they behave and emote a certain way. that they’re in a relationship with someone who they feel that they can show that they are frustrated with or disagree on the layout of their house with or have different ideas on how to deal with the looming threat of a demigod is incredible. jester and fjord are emblematic of a relationship in which the characters Aren’t meant to be, but they Want to be together and they want to understand and support the other person so they work at it. we wouldn’t have conversations like “you seem disheartened..” “i am very disheartened! you almost died!” if they didn’t take the time and care to communicate with one another.

f) if you want a honeymoon era joyful queer romance, yasha and beau are right there! they are explicitly horny and in love and bright about it! if queerness is your measure of “trope breaking” i am very sorry to tell you that queer people partake in white picket fences, and i’d actually argue that in terms of Lifestyle Metaphor, beauyasha are more adherent to the whitepicket fence, nuclear familyism. this isn’t a detriment to them, just, very literally, beau works a 9-5 where she comes back to her housewife who gardens and cooks dinner and their future includes explicit reference to children. comparatively, fjord wants to address some issues in his past, jester is an artist, and both of them are interested in adventure for the foreseeable future.

g) if you truly think that a single part of laura’s description of the part-time abode of fjord and jester overrides every interaction and choice that both laura and travis make towards fjord and jester caring for each other in a deep and meaningful way that goes beyond the weird fandom constructed Man/Woman characters being portrayed by a married couple i truly, Truly have no idea why you even watch the many hours of content that cr is when you could… play/write your own shit.

🎈 - What does your character do at parties? Are they a wallflower or a party animal? Do they go with friends or alone?

I picture her as being great at parties. Everyone loves talking with her, and she always has something new and interesting to talk about. Idk if I'd necessarily call her a party animal though. I don't think she goes with friends, but she does have friends everywhere she goes (if that makes sense?)

💄- What does your oc think of their face? Do they have a positive or negative opinion? Do they have a skincare routine? What traits do they like most about their face?

Idk if we've solidified her look yet, but I do picture her with freckles and the warmest, most beautiful smile you've ever seen. Dimples too, probably. (Are there skincare brands in fma? She's doing the red light therapy, the toner, the vitamin c serum, the retinol lol jk she's starting her own brand called alchemíste and it's a moisturizer that does fuck all and costs $300 for 2 ounces because it has gold flake in it or something) Really though, I don't think she needs to do much. She's probably got great skin and she's also aging really gracefully even though she'd never actually think to worry about it

🧣- What comforts your oc? Is it an item? An action? A person? Why does it comfort them?

The scarf is a good emoji for this one. Judit taught Yasha how to knit. It was something that she enjoyed doing with her daughter, especially when she was stuck in bed. I think Yasha was a nervous child, and it was something that could keep her hands occupied while they spent time together. I think she treasured every little thing Yasha made for her, even if she reused a lot of patterns

On the heels of the latest Mighty Nein Solstice show, I felt like my setup for a BeauYasha + Astrid situation was (barely) relevant again.

This is set, in theory, post-campaign 2, and prior to Ruidus shenanigans.

Beau tucks her napkin into the collar of her shirt and patiently waits for Yasha to bring dinner to the table. Beau set all the cups and bowls and everything out, but her wife likes to bring the meal.

“Are you ready?” Yasha calls.

“I’m so ready!” Beau calls back.

Yasha rounds the corner, a steaming dish in her hands. She’s wearing a black apron that says ‘kiss the cook’, and nothing else.

The apron is suitably sized for someone a little more average than Yasha’s big, muscular frame, and so it’s really working to keep her decent.

Beau’s thoughts are far away from decent. She can’t pick her jaw up off the floor.

Yasha’s face flushes— she still blushes when Beau hits on her even though they’ve been together for like 8 years now, and married for 3 of those. It makes Beau fall even more in love with her. And then her wife tries to do a sexy walk over to the table. Yasha is anything but graceful— she’s a force of nature— and Beau’s too far gone to think this awkward strut is anything but hot.

Yasha sets the serving dish onto the table, and lifts the spoon out of it. There’s definitely something doing it pretty good for Beau with how the strew is thick and dripping. And that’s also something she’ll take to her grave because it is so embarrassing that stew can make her horny, but in her defense it’s being served by the hottest woman in the whole world.

“Hungry?” Yasha purrs.

“Starving,” Beau says, and opens her mouth.

And that’s when Caleb appears in the room. He’s holding someone.

“Send me back!” Astrid screams, “I had him!”

Blood hits the floor in a loud splat.

“Help me!” Caleb shouts.

Astrid bares her teeth, and raises her arm to strike and— Caleb’s holding her left arm over his shoulders to keep her up. Her right arm doesn’t raise because it’s gone.

“Fuck!”

Beau flies out of her seat, and is across the room.

As Astrid registers her missing limb, as blood continues to fly from the wound, Beau skids to a stop at her side. She catches Astrid as her knees go out, and together she and Caleb get Astrid to the floor.

Beau registers the smell of smoke, of arcane magic. Astrid’s tattoos are still bright and pulsing on her remaining arm. Both her and Caleb are covered in soot, in blood. Their hair is singed. Caleb’s got that jittery, caffeinated look he has when he’s been working heavy magic. Beau rips off her loose top and tries to staunch the blood.

“You had no right,” Astrid snarls.

“He was going to kill you,” Caleb snaps.

“Blood for blood,” Astrid hisses, “I’ll take his fucking head!”

Astrid fights at Beau and Caleb, and she’s too weak to push either of them off.

“What the fuck?” Beau shouts.

And it’s now that Yasha reaches them, a fucking angel who’s entire body lights up as she reaches for Astrid. She’s still wearing the apron and nothing else.

Astrid’s back arches as the healing magic surges through her. When she drops, her whole body goes limp. Yasha checks her pulse to make sure the shock of healing didn’t kill her.

“That will keep her from dying, but she needs to see a real healer,” Yasha says.

“Dude what the fuck?” Beau demands.

Caleb groans out a sigh, and wobbles like he might collapse as well. He braces both hands on the floor to keep himself stable, “she— she went after him. I tried to stop her, but she—”

“Who? Trent?”

“Ludinus.”

Beau’s stomach drops. She looks down at the unconscious idiot between them. Despite Yasha’s healing, Astrid is white as snow. Her eyes are closed. Beau checks the wound— the bleeding has stopped, the amputation appears as if it’s had a few weeks of healing, but it’s still raw and red.

Caleb nods, as the severity of the situation sets in, “I— I had nowhere to go. They’re still fighting— the Assembly, and the Volstrucker. Other factions. She might have started a civil war.”

“Or a massacre,” Beau realizes, “Ludinus— fuck! He’s the fucking guy! We don’t have enough to pin him yet, and now? Fuck! I thought she was helping us, what happened?”

She has to shake Astrid to wake her up.

One of her eyes is red with blood. Thanks to Yasha’s healing, the wound is handled, but it will take time for that to clear out. It gives the woman a decidedly unsettling look.

Astrid glares up as they lean over her, and then turns to Caleb, “did you take me to a fucking titty bar?”
