I always respond to comments, even if it takes a while! I’m of the mind that if someone took the time and effort to read and comment, the least I can do is express my appreciation. 

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Probably Nothing of Truth. It’s a Lerouxish insert, set between when Christine is dragged away from the torture chamber, and when we meet her again before Erik forces her hand. I wrote it after reading maybe slightly too much Angela Carter, and so it’s appropriately drenched in (menstrual) blood. 

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

Probably A Place to Belong. Another Lerouxish piece, but a bit of a fix-it, a bit of an exploration for me as to what type of Christine would end up accepting what type of Erik, her thought process for doing so, and the journey of her various realizations after the fact.

Do you write crossovers?

Not yet! I was considering one for crack week, but didn’t have the appropriate time to devote to it.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No, and I would love it if I never did :)

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I’ve written things, but never posted. :) My pieces tend to flirt with it, though. Phantom, to me, is inextricably linked with desire, no matter the characters or pairings or chosen canon. If my renderings of characters don’t at least kind of want to fuck each other desperately, maybe even reluctantly, bluntly-stated or otherwise, it’s not a BacklitMademoiselle fic.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of! God, but what a new fear unlocked.

Not yet!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not yet. I tend to be very twisty when writing, trying to figure out exactly the right phrasing, trying to find exactly the right rhythm to the prose, and I feel that would be difficult to involve someone in right from the get-go.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

For the tragedy of it, Erik & Christine. For a couple that isn’t canonically a huge clusterfuck, Usagi Tsukino & Mamoru Chiba, from Sailor Moon — specifically the original manga interpretation of their relationship. It’s soulmates/fated across time, done right; they get to know and love each other before they ever find out their past and future lives. It’s a true partnership, and their devotion to and faith in one another is so strong it ends up saving the world way more than once. You could argue Kagome & Inuyasha, from Inuyasha, are somewhat similar. Honestly I guess I just love a strong, empathetic woman and the weirdo/dork who loves her (to varying degrees of success haha).

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Thankfully, I don’t have one of those at the moment! Knocking on wood so hard!

What are your writing strengths?

I think I can be very good at getting into the mind of a character, detailing their thought processes and ways in which they see and move through the world. I also have a soft spot for dialogue; it comes pretty naturally to me (most of the time).

What are your writing weaknesses?

I have so little interest in describing setting that I often have to force myself to put it in, or read over a fic in revision with setting specifically in mind. I also know I can get too lost in the weeds and the interiority of a character, to the detriment of plot, and have to forcibly remind myself that the ease of interiority is literally what sets the written word apart from most other media. (But gosh darn it sometimes I do wish my strokes were inherently broader in nature.)

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I don’t particularly favor it. It’s incredibly difficult to get right, if at all.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

There’s so much in Sailor Moon with possibility, that could be expanded and expounded upon, so perhaps I’ll dabble in that fandom some day, but for now Phantom takes up a bit too much of my brain to let any other fic potentials in haha.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I don’t know if I can pick. A Place to Belong is probably the most solid, top to bottom; Trick and Treat the most wacky; Nothing of Truth the darkest; Red Death & the Prince the most overtly thirsty; and Moonlight Flowers is definitely still in progress, but just by nature of it being my first longfic, the most ambitious. I love all my weird children in different ways.

10 (Mostly) Spoiler-Free Reasons to Watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon 2003 Live Action

A countdown to the 20th anniversary of Act 1 air date!

There are many things worth unpacking and appreciating in the live-action series, as long as one can overlook the tackiness of the action scenes and repeated use of questionable CGI sequences. (The real-time CGI isn't bad though, and the action scenes get better as the series runs!) Context to remember: the live-action is a low-budget Tokusatsu series, and it was the debut work of most of the cast in the acting industry! As we approach the show's 20th anniversary, I hope to spread some love and get more people exposed to watching the series!

Reason 1: Ongoing character & dynamic development for EVERYONE!

It is without question that Tsukino Usagi deserves all the love fans of the overall Sailor Moon franchise have for her! However, for those whose favourite character may not necessarily be the titular character, many may find there's just not much space in most iterations of Sailor Moon for their favourite character to shine with the depth of their character well explored, and most character development does not contribute long-lastingly to the plot of the story. It can almost feel like Usagi/Moon seems to often hog all the attention (besides side story chapters in the manga)!

The live-action series solved that issue beautifully, by focusing only on the Dark Kingdom arc in a 49-episode series, the screenwriter Kobayashi Yasuko with Takeuichi Naoko-sensei's input, did a stunning job of building a multi-faceted, linear storyline filled with colourful character development for each Senshi AND Shitennou characters. The Shitennou each have their own defined personality, depths and motivation that are all different from each other's.

Each main heroine character and villain character has their own thematic focus to their story, and they all actually converge and contribute to the storytelling of the series!

The most amazing thing? It dares to render Usagi/Moon into the ensemble cast on episodes when it doesn't make sense for Usagi to hog the screen time. Sometimes, our beloved princess is simply the comic relief in an episode! That's not to say that Usagi's character is disrespected, but Usagi is shown to be as flaw-filled as any other character in the series, and sometimes she herself needs to do some growing up and reflection, so she isn't always the sensible choice to be catalyst for her fellow Senshi' needed growth.

Usagi is undoubtedly loved and cherished and the definite lynchpin of the team, but each Senshi is allowed to have their own dynamics with each other, and let their personality shine... or clash with each other's.

Frankly, I've always been amazed at how much said dynamics were explored between each pair of Senshi. The only one I felt was underdeveloped was Ami and Minako. :(

Here is my rough table of how the character focus is spread across the series. (Many episodes actually have an A plot, B plot and C plot, but I'm not expert enough to parse them all down. This is by memory. lol)

When I heard that I was cast as Sailor Moon, it felt really unbelievable. But then due to corona, I had to wait a year before that news could be shared so it didn't feel very real at all. But finally when i went to costume fitting, I really got the feeling that I have become Sailor Moon.

Q: If you ever have to fight villains like Sailor Moon and her friends, what would be your fighting style?

Manipulating thunder like Sailor Jupiter, making them feel so much regret that it'll leave them numb lol. Supreme Thunder!!! And I also yearn to fight with huge items like Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn!

Q: A few words about the character you play.

She is clumsy but also strong, energetic, honest and a very hardworking girl. I will always admire her. I'm really happy to play character who is loved by many people! I will do my best for Sera Myu Fes(Chronicle) as well!!

She has also appeared in movies and played the role of a heroine's childhood self. Q: What do you remember of being selected to be part of the Sailor Moon musicals?

It was my stage debut so I was very honored. After the final audition, I went home together with Sailor Jupiter, Kisara Matsumura, who I have been good friends with for a while now and she said that "it would be nice if we could perform together."

Q: If you ever have to fight villains like Sailor Moon and her friends, what would be your fighting style?

I love pickled plums, so I would be Sailor Vinegar, protected by acid. With my powers of sour stimulus, I would weaken my enemies taste buds.

Q: A few words about the character you play.

Congratulations on the 30th anniversary! Please keep on loving Ami Mizuno and as for Sailor Mercury who I admire so much, i hope you shine forever. I love you!

Q: What do you remember of being selected to be part of the Sailor Moon musicals?

From the very beginning i have loved Sailor Mars and my manager knew that I wanted to play her so when the call came that I got the role, we both screamed with excitement. And when I told my mom and grandma about it, both of them started crying tears of joy which made me very happy. Seeing this made me want to work even harder!

Q: If you ever have to fight villains like Sailor Moon and her friends, what would be your fighting style?

At first, I'll try to talk to them and get along with them. Maybe I will find the good points in them, there is a high chance that they will change their mind! But if they keep on doing evil deeds, I will give it right back at them, Evil Spirit, Begone!!

Q: A few words about the character you play.

When I was 4 years old I fell with the canny and cool Rei. And when I found out that we had the same name, I felt it was fate. I love the Rei-chan who has a lot of charms, such as the way she hides her passion, the way she says things clearly and honestly, and the fact that she is kind and cares about her friends! Through the Sailor Moon musicals, and by playing Rei, I have met really wonderful and important friends. I'm really grateful. I will cherish each and every performance with love!

Q: What do you remember of being selected to be part of the Sailor Moon musicals?

When I heard from my agency that I was cast as Sailor Jupiter, I remember being so surprised and full of joy that i couldn't stop trembling. And when we, the 5 Inner Soldiers, finally met face to face, all of them were those who had left a strong impression on me from the auditions. At the beginning, it was. a bit difficult to communicate due to the tension and corona but now everyone has become irreplaceable friends to me!

Q: If you ever have to fight villains like Sailor Moon and her friends, what would be your fighting style?

If I fight, I will fight like in my favorite RPG games and defeat evil! In the game, I can become as strong in mind and body as the Sailor Soldiers. I want to collect the strongest characters from all over the world and defeat evil and protect the world! Or course if possible, i would rather discuss and solve the problem without fighting.

Q: A few words about the character you play.

At first I was very nervous and worried if I could properly play such a cool character as Sailor Jupiter. But soon after, I started to admire her, who is by far the most powerful, the most sweetest and kindest of all. I learned to believe in my friends, to protect and love them. I will also continue on loving Sailor Jupiter so that I can get step by step closer to her.

Q: What do you remember of being selected to be part of the Sailor Moon musicals?

When I found out I was chosen, I was so happy and immediately told my family about it!! At the final audition, I remember Rei Kobayashi-chan talking to me when I was nervous. So I was really happy that I was able to become a Sailor Soldier with Rei-chan and everyone else! When I'm with the rest of the 5 Sailor Soldiers, I'm just so happy <3 Unlike Minako-chan, I'm far form being a leader, but since she is, I'll do my best to make everyone to able to rely on me!

Q: If you ever have to fight villains like Sailor Moon and her friends, what would be your fighting style?

Special Attack!!; Even though we meet for the first time, it feels like we have met before!! And then we become friends ♪ I call this special attack "Becooome my friend"!

Q: What do you remember of being selected to be part of the Sailor Moon musicals?

When I went to the audition for the first time, it was the winter of my last year in kindergarten, so only 6 years old. That audition was for Chibi Chibi and when I was asked what my special skill is, I remember saying it was doing tricks with a ball and I started doing it lol. I was so happy when I passed was chosen to play Chibi Chibi! And now that i'm 12 years old, I'm really excited to play Chibiusa!

Q: If you ever have to fight villains like Sailor Moon and her friends, what would be your fighting style?

When I'm around town, I take notice of the license plates of the cars and phone numbers written on signboards of different shops and create them into mathematic formulas and solve them! I find it very enjoyable. Even in math class, I feel very accomplished when I understand a difficult problem. I once heard that "mathematics is connected to the mysteries of the universe". Because of that, if I were to fight evil, I would like to fight them with mathematics! I would challenge them by giving them complex figures and formula problems!

Q: A few words about the character you play.

My beloved Chibiusa, who I admire since she is adorable, strong and brave. Like Chibiusa, I will never give up no matter how small I am! With these strong feelings, I want to do my very best in singing, dancing, and acting to play Chibiusa on stage to the fullest!

BIOGRAPHY.

briar rose zheng was born in the spring of 2001 in derry, ireland. her family, a middleclass muggle family, didn't have much in materialistic terms, she grew up loved and cherished. her mother is a registered nurse and her father a construction worker, and both are utterly ordinary ( in terms of magic ). while briar is the oldest of two girls, her sister tends to be the calmer more steady of the two siblings. briar has always been the more sensitive of the two sisters, often behaving like the younger of the two, and was quickly ( and lovingly ) branded a crybaby by her family.

artistic and optimistic, briar's first love has always been art. painting, photography, ceramics, any media she could get her little hands on. her parents always encouraged her to do what made her happy. painting would always be her favorite, followed closely by photography. even now, it's not uncommon for her to have a camera around her neck. as she got older her social butterfly nature became increasingly obvious. she made friends easily, even befriending those who seemed hard to get a long with.

briar's high school career was pretty uneventful. she did extremely well in her courses, kept an almost perfect point average and graduated early, at the age of sixteen. wanting to take a break before she attended college ( majoring in fine art, of course ), she decided to take a year off. within that time... things started happening. cookies floating off the baking tray, things disappearing into thin air... very odd, strange things. and then finally... a letter. at seventeen briar finally understood why she had deep down always felt like she didn't belong. briar was finally home.

at first, briar had no idea what she wanted to focus her studies on, and when her mother had suggested healing & medicine she had dismissed her altogether, but after falling ill and winding up in the hospital wing during her first year, she realized just how fascinating it was. she had always been altruistic and compassionate, and it felt right. helping take care of those around her. so she declared her area of study.

while briar has always aligned herself with the light, it became even more clear to her when cedric diggory was murdered last year. while they weren't as close as some of her housemates were to him, she felt the sharp pain of heartache when she found out he he had passed, and she knew then more than ever that she wanted to help people.

HEADCANONS.

her room at home and her area in the dorms are both covered in art. paintings, sketches, photography, anything you can think of she has it decorating her space.

is suuuuper clumsy. it's not uncommon for her to trip over her own feet.

doesn't often drink so she has a very low tolerance for it, and is usually pretty tipsy after a shot or two.

is obsessed with magical creatures and really considered making zoology her area of study.

before coming to hogwarts her favorite mythical creatures were mermaids and sirens, and after being a student for three years, she's actually very of afraid of them and the black lake.

her mother often sends her care packages from ireland, full of muggle candies and snacks that she and her housemates absolutely adore.

has a bunny rabbit named clover. she's a year old, and she has about a billion protection charms on her, because briar is terrified that one of the cats or owls are going to snatch her up when she isn't around.

Magical Girl Crossover Poll!

Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) has been separated from her friends! Thankfully they're not dead this time, but it will still be awhile before they can re-unite, so in the meantime, Usagi will need a substitute squad.

Fortunately, Usagi can sense there are 10 magical girls available and willing to help her, however, she can summon only 4 of them.

WE HAVE MADE IT TO ROUND 5, THE QUARTERFINALS! THE WINNERS OF THIS ROUND WILL BE THE QUARTERFINALISTS THAT MAKE IT TO THE SEMIFINALS!

There will be only 4 polls, all posted tomorrow Wednesday the 13th of March. There will be a total of 8 participants (2 participants in each individual set) and only 4 of them will make it to the Round 6, the Semifinals, while the rest will be sent to the Shadow Realm where their souls will be tormented for eternity.

These polls will also be the finals of each individual set, as the winner of each individual poll this round will be the winner of each of their set and place in the top 4 of the tournament, so if a character wins the Quarterfinals but loses in the Semifinals or Finals, it’s still a pretty big win in my opinion.
