"Ain't that the truth?" She laughed with him, nodding in agreement. It was always good to see Ryland and catch up. Certain people held a special place in her heart when they ran off to do bigger and better things, or moved on. She thought about them often and liked to check in whenever she could. If there was anything they needed that she could help with, she was there in a heartbeat. Ry was one of those people, at the end of the day he was family just like her own blood. "Hmm, think it's probably a little of both?" Lottie snickered and motioned for another couple drinks. "How are things going with you? Stayin' out of trouble, I hope."

Sure, the amount of bars Ry could frequent was countless. It seemed like new ones popped up constantly, but for him. The Tin Roof was always home. He'd worked here for nearly six years fresh off the road from Illinois back when he was a kid, and Lottie had always been good to him. Even now, he felt like he was with family more than anything whenever he stopped by. He came by to check in with her from time to time, and no matter how busy it was, he always made sure to have a conversation with the woman who had helped him pay his rent before royalties started rolling in. "It's like you give 'em a break and they suddenly retaliate," he said with a laugh. The man threw a look over his shoulder toward the stage and turned back to the bar, glancing at his phone screen. "Honestly, I can't remember what time I got here. Is that a sign of old age or just a really strong drink?"

After his usual round of dropping off provisions at various locations throughout the island, Rye decided to enjoy the nice weather and break in his day, wandering around and occasionally slipping into shops. Somehow, this led Rye to one of the few in Ravenwyck, still ever so curious about the different species on the island and magic especially. Hesitantly, he pulled a book off the shelf and skimmed through it, stopping at one of the pages, face paling slightly, "This spell won't actually kill someone, will it? …Human sacrifices sound so...," he spoke to no one in particular, though trailed off as he noticed a pair of feet approaching, unable to help but freeze in place. Perhaps he ought to have avoided wandering around without Lia.

Two nights ago, I was watching X2: X-Men United, and I figured out how I want to start Project Power! (The first chapter/inciting incident/whatever.)

A little background: Much of this story is inspired by how I've come to realize that mutants being an allegory for marginalized groups does not make any sense given that many (not all, but many) are inherently more powerful than humans. I talked about this on my X-Men blog last month and got absolutely cooked for it. But it is a skill issue. (I don't support Magneto's bullshit, but a little threat here or mind control there, and BOOM. Civil rights! 🤷🏽‍♀️) So in the Powerverse, people with special abilities (I don't have a certain name for them yet) were treated badly until about 20 years before the story starts (1999). Now, they're the dominant class, while regular humans are treated as lesser. But obviously, there are still many people who hate the... powered people, and some are trying to start a rebellion against them.

Here is where Ryland comes in. Some of you may know Ryland from my fandom OCs blog. (I suggest looking through her tag I've attached to get a feel for her.) So, the opening I've figured out is that Ryland gets badly bullied by 3 kids at school for being a regular human. She gets bullied pretty often by many students, but this time, these 3 kids force her into the walk-in freezer in the kitchen and lock her in their as a prank. She's in there for probably half an hour, and she would've died if Jasmine hadn't found her via telepathy. It's a whole thing, even the chill headmaster goes Tyra Banks on these kids, "I have never in my LIFE yelled at a student like this!" 😌🤌🏽

The bell of the door jingled as the five tired wrestlers pushed their way into the small bakery owned by Levi Cabana, eliciting a small chuckle from the baker who stood behind the counter. They were a motley crew to look at in person, considering the blood feud that had been occurring over the past few months in the company they worked for.

The first to sit at the table was Phil Brooks, the self-professed best in the world. His stringy blonde hair was still dirty with flakes of blood, both his own and that of the man who had sat to his left, Levi's older brother Colt Cabana. Colt's forehead was stitched up and he kept side-eyeing Phil as if he wanted to say something. Across from Scott sat Dia Banks, the newest protege of the Second City Saints. It had been just as hard for her to watch from the outside, tussling with the man to her own left, Sebastian Ryland. Bash's long blonde hair seemed mussed still, not caring to brush it out after the show.

Yet it was Caleb Timbers, the smallest member of the group and the newest member, "Gotta love a pay-per-view, huh?"

Levi cracked a grin of his own, "I tried the in-ring thing. Wasn't for me."

Colt groaned, rolling his shoulder with an audible click, "Consider yourself lucky, Lev. This asshole got me roughed up."

"It was my 𝒋𝒐𝒃 to rough you up," Phil rolled his eyes, leaning back on the wooden chair he sat in as he tugged at his lip ring with his teeth.

"Yeah, but it wasn't your job to rough 𝒎𝒆 up," Dia scoffed back, arms resting against the table in front of her, "and you still did it."

"You're so right, Di," Bash clapped one of his massive hands to the woman's petite shoulder, "it was 𝒎𝒚 job to rough you up and I think you paid me back in fuckin' spades!"

"If you five don't knock it off, I won't give any of you the cookies I have in the oven," Levi planted his hands on his hips, reveling in how the entire table seemed to grow quiet. If there was one thing in the world that brought people together, it was cooking, and the food that had always brought his people together were his baked goods. The times went off in the kitchen and Levi hustled out of the dining area to pull the tray from the large metal oven. The smell of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies wafted through the establishment and Leiv could practically hear the collective deep inhale from the dining area, a warm smile on his face. He plated the cookies, three for everyone, before carrying the tray in.

"The chocolate chips are my favorite," Caleb beamed, the fingers of his good hand brushing against Levi's as he sat the plate down. The look they shared was soft and tender, "Made with love?"

"For my best customers?" Levi smiled as he watched the five, a twinkle of pride in his eyes, "Always."

OKAY so, as you know, I am the #1 Ryland Stan while also being one of the many people tied for President of the "Everly is a crusty bitch who needs to kick rocks with open toed shoes" club.

WITH THAT SAID... While I'm disappointed in Ryland, I'm not surprised. And no, it's not because he was once Trashland and is now going back to his Trashland ways. Cause while he is going back to those ways, this Trashland 2.0 is different from OG. The OG came from a place of selfishness and not giving a fuck because he didn't have to give a fuck while 2.0 is coming from a place of hurt and grief and brokenness. Ryland learned and he grew and while, yes, we're now seeing him regress, it's not for no reason. His wife doesn't love him (and in my eyes, maybe only did for all of two seconds but the both of them being horrendous communicators fucked that up), he lost the one person who loved him unconditionally (his mother), and finally, his twin brother. He was already breaking and attempting to hold it together, but Rhea and Don dying is what caused him to break. Can you blame him? I can't. Not saying that what he's doing is good and healthy, but grief can fuck you up like that.

As for Crusty Everly, all I'll say is that at least she *tried* to get him to go back to his own room. As much as I think that she's an opportunistic C U Next Tuesday, this particular instance isn't her being that. She's grieving too and I'm sure that there are 5011 things swirling around in her head right now, all involving the loss of her fiancé as well as thinking about her unborn baby. This is a HUGE loss for her so as much as I dislike her, I can give her some grace here.

In Episode 10 of Inside My Favorite Manuscript, Lindsey and Dot chat with Sarah Burke Cahalan about EXULTET ROLLS. These objects, created during a 300 year period in the south of Italy, are used one day a year: during Easter Sunday. Cynthia - Marissa’s older sister and the second of two adopted children

Deidre - AC’s mom and divorced from Charlie years ago, moved out of state, was and continues to be a horrible bitch

Diana - Marissa’s sister (born a week after me) and one of two biological children Marissa’s parents had – Marissa and Cynthia are adopted - Diana recently died

Dominic -  Marissa’s oldest son, my cousin, brother of Meagan and Jamie, and recently got married to Lilly, has ADHD

Jamie - Marissa’s youngest son, my cousin, brother of Meagan and Dominic, lives with his grandma

Jesse - Lucia’s husband (who died a few years ago) and step-father to AC’s Husband

Jilian -  my mom’s friend from back east who moved out here 10 years ago and stays with us 3-4 days every other month and is an awesome houseguest

Josie (aka Stalkerboy’s Mom) - she’s just as insane as her son Brent, but still comes out here to visit from time to time and talks on the phone with my mom a lot

Kaylin - a girl AC and I grew up with who found herself in an abusive relationship and called us to come get her (she helps out with the shop)

Lilly - Dominic’s wife and new to the family

Lucia - AC’s Husband’s mom, pretty decent person but keeps enabling AC and AC’s Husband

Madelyn - my mom, the sanest of the bunch, but has seizures and other physical issues

Marissa-  Charlie’s wife and technically my aunt but since she’s two years older  than me and her little sister is exactly my age it was decided (mutual decision) that she isn’t called my aunt because it squicked both of us out :D  her kids are Meagan, Dominic, and Jamie

Meagan -  Marissa’s oldest, my cousin, sister of Dominic and Jamie, and divorced from Ryland

Nelson - my dad, Robyn and Sean’s uncle, old fart, and general asshole

Perry - Marissa’s younger brother and the second biological child of Marissa’s parents – lives in California with his wife Bonnie and their two kids

Robyn -  one of my cousins, the best of the bunch from my dad’s side of the family, who died a few years ago, leaving behind three kids, was schizophrenic and bipolar

Ryland - Meagan’s ex-husband, has Asperger’s, pretty nice guy and a great match for Meagan (I feel bad for him over the divorce)

Sean -  my cousin, Robyn’s brother – he was schizophrenic and didn’t handle life well, having died a few years ago, was the one I always looked to because I was worried I’d turn out like him

At the Tattoo Shop:

Alexis - tattoo artist hired, then quickly fired at the shop

Allison - piercing apprentice who worked at the shop for a few months, got fired for bad behavior/unsafe practices, and had all her friends leave bad reviews for my shop

Arynn - an artist who has been at the shop since July 2019 and is awesome

Ash- tattoo artist who has been with us since 2014 and was in a bad motorcycle accident in 2016

Blake -  tattoo artist who worked at the shop in 2019 for a month then went home to Wyoming only to come back September 2020 and start working at the shop again

Connor -a junior artist and piercer who came from Wyoming with Blake and is working at the shop

Draven - a really awesome artist I’ve been trying to get into the shop for years who just agreed to come and started working there at the end of November 2020

Evan-  tattoo artist and piercer who was with us for 3 years and was recently fired (Allison was his apprentice)

Lee - tattoo artist who was with us for 3 years but was fired at the end of 2018 and works in another shop but comes in to visit and buy supplies

Marco- tattoo artist who was at the shop for about 6 weeks in 2019 before being fired for drug use and other issues

Ryan - tattoo artist who was with us for 4 years and quit to go into electrical work in 2019 - we got along really well and I MISS HIM SO MUCH!!

Saul - tattoo artist who has been with me the longest (me and my family knew  him before we opened the shop and he was the only one we requested to work there) and does all my tattoos

Tasha- Ryan’s girlfriend

*none  of these names are real – I stopped using their real names years ago after a few people decided to harass the guys at my shop – but the first letter of each name matches the real person’s first name
