I feel like he’s the type of guy to gift you experiences rather than physical items. He’d take you to a fancy cafe you’d been eyeing, maybe a movie you wanted to watch, possibly even plan a surprise picnic!!

He dresses up for the occasion too! Even if you don’t expect it, he’s out of his usual jacket and attire- sporting something he seemingly newly bought. Ichiro will absolutely light up in smiles if you compliment his outfit and effort.

Ichiro feels like his time with you is more valuable than any gift he could give. He has so many other responsibilities on his shoulders so he uses his “gifts” to make up for any time lost.

Jiro

Jiro worries himself over trying to come up with a gift to get you. He doesn’t have much money, with most of his salary going towards helping his siblings. When the time comes to give you a gift, he’s embarrassed- bumbling over himself with apologies for the supposed shittiness of his gift.

But oh, oh, oh he’s so sweet :C. He’ll hand make a card for you, educating himself on paper craft so it’s the cutest it can be. There’s paper cuts that litter his hands as he gives it to you.

Jiro immediately leaves the room, not wanting to see your face as you read the letter, in which he pours his heart out for you to fully see. Run after him and kiss his face will you?

Samatoki gives you a leather wallet... that he made himself!!

One of the old men who he buys meatbuns from told him about a class that would 'fit his vibe.' And when he begrudgingly took the class, the old man was totally right! Samatoki gets really into the task, hiding the new hobby from you because he wants to surprise you with a gift at the end of the class.

When he hands you the wallet, you can tell it wasn't professionally made. There's stray burn marks on the front, mildly messy seams holding it together, and a tag inside that is signed with his initials and yours inside of a heart. Samatoki is so, so proud of showing you his accomplishment though- and hopes you enjoy it as much as he enjoyed making it.

Jyuto

Jyuto gets you a personalized music box.

It's of your favorite song. One you would always play for him whenever you were given aux in the car- that he would always playfully say was becoming annoying to hear. One he only seemed to tolerate instead of actually enjoy listening to it.

But he knows the joy it brings you to listen to. He sees the smile on your face when you turn the volume louder, the shine in your eyes when it surprisingly comes on the radio. It's why, despite his mild dislike of it, he buys you a music box so you could play it whenever you want. Just so he can see your smile whenever he can.

Rio

Rio is a man of practicality. So he gets you a self care box!

He kind of throws everything into it, multiple body washes and bath bombs, a variety of different scents- he has more experience in self preservation instead of self care. But just from the amount of... stuff inside- it's clear he thought a lot about it!

When he gives the box to you he has a little trouble explaining what it's for. It's a rare sight to see, Rio stumbling flustered over his words trying to explain he wanted to make sure you were taking care of yourself in ways outside his understanding. If you offer to show him how to use all the stuff he got you, he'll gladly accept!

Ramuda

Ramuda gives you an outfit he specifically designed! In his mind, there's nothing more meaningful than something made from hand.

He’s poured over it for weeks, wanting it to be absolutely perfect for his perfect partner. Ramuda knows your tastes to the smallest detail, so he knew just what to do to make sure you'd like it. And its comfortable too!! Made with the softest fabric he could buy, so despite whatever flashiness it has it's super comfy to wear.

When actually giving it to you, he makes you model it right in front of him! He's kicking his feet and squealing as you twirl around in whatever he gives you, excited to see you in something he created.

Gentaro

mfeafeiafjewamawe Gentaro gifts you a notebook.

It's unsuspecting first, with a plain, brown, leather bound cover. He's unusually casual about it too, handing it to you under his sleeve with a meek smile. Usually, Gentaro would make a show about whatever gift he gives you, jokingly saying you should bow to his feet in praise for his effort.

However, once you open up the notebook, you'd find it's filled with words of love. Poems, short stories, letters, all of it written by Gen to you. It's so, sickenly sweet and romantic you'd never expect it from him. When you look back at him after peeking through, he's red in the face, flustered to hear whatever feedback you may have.

Dice

Dice gives you a special lucky charm!!

He spent months hunting it down. Seeking through pawn shops and all the shady back alley sellers he knows. When Dice gets a good idea in his mind, he sticks to it thoroughly, the only thing on his mind being the joyous reaction he expects you to have.

And what does he give you? The matching piece to his earring of course! If you don't wear earrings, he'll have it converted to a keychain so you can carry it on your bag. Dice thinks it's the perfect good luck charm, both for him and for you :3

Matenro

Jakurai

fewafewafewfeaw Jakurai gets you one of those mini books that's like "30 things I love about you."

You know, the ones that have a different prompt for each page that you have to fill in. Despite the small space, he gets really detailed, and it's so sweet and romantic and yuck !!! They're all wildly different responses, ranging from how he thinks you always look wonderful to how he thinks you truly saved his life just by being in it.

When Jakurai hands the book to you he's shy about it, apologizing about the responses because he wasn't able to fit all he wanted to say. Of course, he'll gladly say it in person if you're insistent 😚😚😚

Hifumi

Hifumi comes to your door with a bouquet of flowers. He's all smiles as he stuffs petals and stems in your face.

Ooh, he was insistent on picking out the flowers himself. Hifumi has a company discount with the local flower shop his club works with- so he was all in on getting as many different flowers as he could find (as in, all the flowers he found pretty[as in, all of them]).

He also put together the bouquet himself!! It's a little messy, with some broken stems and falling petals. However, he's just so happy to give it to you that you can't help but find it adorable.

Doppo

Doppo gets matching keychains for you guys!

He likes being subtle about a lot of things, including his affections. The keychains he gets are the type that look regular on their own, but together they can link to form a heart or your initials or something romantic like that.

Doppo will often link your keychains together in public, smiling to himself as he sees the connection. Whenever he gets anxious in public and he's alone, he'll hold onto the keychain tightly, being reminded of you. Yes, while it was a gift to you it also was a gift to himself, to have a reminder of you with him always :CC

Kuko

Kuko is so shit at giving gifts I'm so sorry. He has to ask his friends what gifts to get you and they're all so sick of it LMAO. Ichiro tells him to take you out somewhere, and that eventually gives him the perfect idea for a gift.

Kuko says his gift to you is a day of him being on his best behavior. He says it with a smug smile, expecting you to tell him how good of a present it is and is shocked to see your confusion.

He gets legitimately upset when you tell him that his best behavior shouldn't be a gift. The day ends with him promising you that he'll get you an even better gift next time, which leads him back to the drawing board as this dude is just so, so shit at giving gifts.

Jyushi

Jyushi writes a song for you!

He's not the lyricist for his band but he has a heavenly voice to back up whatever he writes. But he puts EVERYTHING into writing the song for you. Jyushi throws in references to your relationship, to specific dates or moments in time, to things only the two of you would know. He sees it as his magnum opus, and is very very proud of being able to perform it to you.

If his band doesn't want to perform the song with him he makes Kuko and Hitoya help him. Sure, it may have taken a few tear filled begs, but with their help he's able to perform the song he spent so much time working on, just for you

Hitoya

Hitoya makes you a playlist!

He's a bit of a classic guy, and would've made you a mixtape if anyone still used those on the daily lol. There's a lot of different memories within your relationship related to different songs, and he wanted to compile all of them for you two to listen together. Hitoya makes the picture of the playlist a photo of you two on your first anniversary, one where you're holding hands by the sunset and smiling.

It's sweet, cause he plays it first without telling you what it is. With every song that passes you recognize where it's from, and he's left smiling like a kid when you beam with joy asking him if he really made a playlist for you.

Sasara gets you a build-a-bear bear!!

He goes in store alone to buy it, and goes a little overboard in designing it. Sasara gets a bunch of overpriced accessories, stuffs it a little too much with stuffing, and picks one of the most expensive dolls because it was the cutest.

Sasara records his own voice messages so they could play whenever you squeeze the doll's hand. And oh my goodness, he recorded so many. There's multiple shitty jokes, several wild compliments, and a myriad of 'I love yous' said in various different tones. Just don't hug it too much, he might get jealous ehehe.

Rosho

Rosho gets you whatever you want.

He gets really concerned when trying to get you gifts, worrying over what you would like best, if you already have it, or if you'd think it's too much/too little. So, eventually he'll just go ahead and ask you what you want as a present.

As long as it's in reason, of course. If you say some ludicrous thing like a yacht or a new car, Rosho will get sad and say you know he can't afford such luxurious (why would you do that to him LMAO). But he'll take you to the shops and have you pick out anything you want, buying it with no question as he just wants you to know he loves you so so so much :CC

takamura is hesitant, but mostly because he thinks makeup is something for girls and he is a "manly man" (his words)

you eventually manage to convince him by promising to do anything he wants afterwards, for which of course he only has one thing in mind

when he actually sees the final look in the mirror he quite likes it because he looks a bit more fierce. it gets him excited because he realises he can look scarier in his fights, "y/o can you make me look like a bear?? NO, A HAWK??"

he will actually let you do some makeup before his defense / title matches

he calls aoki and kimura (well mostly kimura) to annoy them through vague wording about what happened today "OI LOSER GUESS WHAT. Y/N AND I DID FACE STUFF TODAY HAHAHAHAHHA" (then you both may or may not proceed to do actual face stuff ahem)

takamura may even let you do more makeup on him like eyeshadoow as long as you can make him look scary

miyata would initially be surprised by your actions, but then assume that he probably must have bored you to the point where you had to resort to such an idea

he is aware that people call him 'pretty boy', but that doesn't really affect his masculinity so he pretty easily let's you do his eyeliner

he'd sit down on a chair unsure of what to do so he just folds his arms and closes his eyes, "is this okay?"

he'd stiffen a bit when you sit on his lap, but still will do his best to remain still as he feels a strange sensation on his eyelids

when you're done, you follow behind him to a mirror. you swear you saw a small smile form on miyata's face, "this looks very interesting"

"i think you look pretty handsome actually" you say from behind him, giving him a hug. in a soft voice he replies, "thank you.."

Tatsuya Kimura

when you ask him if you can put eyeliner on him he immediately says yes. like he'd be so dumb to reject quality time together

the two of you sit on his bed as you lean over and do his eyeliner

kimura secretly enjoys having your attention on him even if it's just for a few minutes. having you so close to him also makes him feel very special

when you're done he reaches for a handheld mirror and looks shook by how talented you are

he tackles you onto the bed with a hug and murmurs about how lucky he is to have an artistically talented s/o

unfortunately he doesn't have the confidence to wear the eyeliner out in public mostly in fear of what takamura will say. he knows takamura will make fun of him hardcore and he doesn't need that to ruin this special thing between the two of you

He wouldn't have been trying to 'save everyone' if Samatoki hadn't always taken it upon himself to be an aggressive asshole. That seemed to be the part the older man didn't understand -- that Ichiro only did what had to be done to keep Samatoki's piece of shit attitude in check. It amazed Ichiro what he was the youngest of the team... that he was supposed to be the delinquent of the bunch when he found himself practically babysitting Samatoki on the regular.

They were supposed to be working together. Yet the tension between them continued to build. If it weren't for Jakurai keeping them sane, and Ramuda's entertaining way of (what Ichiro could only assume was) stopping them from killing each other, he was sure he and Samatoki would have gotten into a fight that neither of them could have come back from. As it were, he wasn't sure there was much of a friendship left there to try to save anyway. They might as well have gone their own ways and called it quits.

"You're such a pain in the ass -- and it's not just under certain circumstances, it's all the fucking time!" Ichiro got in his face, fists clenched at his sides. "Stop giving me people to save if you don't want me protecting them from your bullshit!" Whatever had happened to the Samatoki that had helped him in the past, he wished he could have known about ahead of time. Then again, if he wasn't supposed to be 'saving people' maybe the older man wouldn't have wanted him helping there either.

"Fuck!" He finally released the tension in his fists as he shoved his flat palms against Samatoki's chest with the intent to steal back his own personal space despite having been the one to close the gap in the first place. He was sick of the fighting. "I'm outta here. I got more important shit to do than to wait for you to grow up."

ahh this is such a fun question, thanks so much for the ask! a difficult question as well lol, i am very indecisive so a top 10 anything is... tough

i'll limit myself to animanga only, aaand lump some characters in under the same banner so there's definitely going to be more than 10 here. i'm also prohibiting myself from giving more than one slot to hpmi characters or that would just be the whole list

anyway:

ICHISAMA (package deal, do not separate)

this is probably obvious (or should be obvious) from my pinned but in first place are of course my forever blorbos (and forever otp) ichiro and samatoki of hypnosis mic

it's hard to say what i like about them besides "literally everything" which is kind of funny because for like the first year-ish of me being into hpmi neither of them were my top favorites lol

and now i genuinely have to say i like them both equally, and like them both the most. out of any characters of anything ever. i typed a bunch of paragraphs after this but think i'll actually just stop here because nothing really does justice to how they make me feel (unwell, in a good way)

this post is already getting long so everything else will go under a cut! and besides ichisama in first, none of the other characters will be strictly ranked in order. mostly just listed as i think of them

2. bon my beloved, of showa genroku rakugo shinju

this is my favorite anime of all time, and what i would personally consider the best anime of all time, and bon is perhaps the single most beautiful character with the single most beautiful story i've consumed ever. i never feel any urge to make or consume fanworks of this series because it's just so mind-blowingly perfect and complete to me

i won't spoil too much about the series, but it's a tragedy, and that's something i don't read or watch much of. so it's truly exception for this to be my favorite, but it was just that good

bon is in so many ways a tragic character, and the series allows you to see him through his whole life. he's tragic in such a hauntingly beautiful way, though, and i left the series feeling like he now lives in my bones

this is probably also my favorite ishida akira role ever, which is saying a lot because he's always great. i love the anime because it gives such life to the rakugo performed in the series, and though i'm not an expert on rakugo, i felt like the performances were top-tier. and it always impresses me when voice actors take on roles that require them to perform a whole ass other art form (like rakugo or rap)

3. aomine (knb) AND grimmjow (bleach)

these are the same goddamn man i'm putting them together no one can stop me. they are a) blue b) panther-coded c) very aggro d) very aggro at a ginger mc specifically e) DEPRESSED and f) voiced by suwabe

(though honestly grimmjow's just here because they're too similar to separate, aomine's the real favorite here)

the thing with aomine is basically—

—and that paired with his tough guy/badass/fuckface manner is very appealing to me. i don't think it's even remotely possible for me to be brief in why he's so dear to me, but the short version is he's a deeply traumatized asshole and i'm into that

4. KIYOSE HAIJI RUN WITH THE WIND GUY OF ALL TIME (and various other sports guys who are single mothers)

i may have a lot of guys of all times but haiji is for real. before ichiro he was my favorite character of anything ever for a while, and he is definitely my favorite type of sports guy (so a lot of other sports guys are going to be lumped into this category with him lol)

he has an infectious passion for running and he will infect you. whether you let him or not. it's not negotiable. you will run. no matter what

i think he brings out the best in those around him, sometimes at a detrimental cost to himself. he pushes his team hard but pushes himself even harder. we stan a self-destructive king

and i'm putting natsusa number24 right in this rank with him

because while number24 is objectively Not a good anime, it's easily one of my favorite sports series and i sincerely love natsusa just as much as i love haiji. natsusa is like if someone made haiji but cranked the bitch factor up to one billion, he is the most gaslit gatekeep girlboss guy in all of sports anime and i love him for that

bonus shoutout to iura kei of shakunetsu kabaddi, usui yuuta of days, and sugawara koushi of haikyuu. gotta be my favorite flavor of sports guy

(ok this is not even fully true because i think my days favorite did ultimately end up being mizuki because he's just so fucking stupid BUT usui i still love you.........)

5. kaworu and all his ridiculously many expies (aka the "and then a weird guy appear" category)

basically i'm talking about these fucks

they show up, sometimes not even for very long, and all they do is cause problems (ok victor probably doesn't really belong here but he honestly does fit the mold and i'm too lazy to crop him out from this old graphic i made lol) and love another weird guy so catastrophically that it alters the course of the story

the way kaworu loves shinji the way komaeda loves hinata the way zashunina…… obsesses over shindo. like fine wine to me, chef's kiss. tbh that's why victor fits the mold for me, his and yuuri's love is less the "People Will Die" type of catastrophic but it's still life-changing, life-saving, for them both

ironically even though kaworu is a ryo expy himself i'm not. i'm not that big on ryo, i'll be honest. maybe it's because i wasn't the biggest of netflix devilman in general. i should probably read the manga sometime, might change my mind

6. SOFT BOYS natsume and rei

god. yet another. she's just so fucking cool. massively obsessed with her. it's been too long since i've watched hellsing (and durarara for that matter) for me to remember a ton of details but her whole personality is just so appealing to me

9. hei, of darker than black

once again he's just cool as fuck, also i'm chinese and it's rare to see a really good chinese character in anime, much less as a main character. darker than black is an older series at this point, but it remains one of my old favorites. second season was a bit questionable but honestly i didn't hate it. my boy got fuucked uuupppppp (said with delight)

funny story about hei is when i first started watching the show there was this moment where i thought "this is a weird detail to notice but something about his collarbones look really nice to me? they're just two lines but idk they're lovely"

Backstory

Ryota Nakamura is Ichiro and Keisuke's youngest brother. He's Okonomiyaki Chef and Okonomiyaki Restaurant Owner with father. He was born and raised in Osaka.

When Ryota was a kid, he had been helping his father in the restaurant a little, just like his 2 older brothers, Ichiro and Keisuke. Because, he had worked with his father since he was a child. Make him see and start learning how to work in his father's restaurant and making Okonomiyaki. But because he's still kid, his father just wanted him to study hard like his 2 older brothers.

Years later, Ryota was a teenager in high school. He saw that his 2 brothers, Ichiro and Keisuke had moved to work in another city. At that moment, he felt lonely. Because, he and his 2 brothers were always together and spending time together. The house he lived in, which was once lively, became lonely. He's the only one who still lives with his parents and grandmother.

During his high school years, Ryota had crush on one girl. Until once day, he confess what he feel to her. But she said him, she will go to university in America after graduating from high school. That moment, his heart was broken, but he understand her reason. After he graduated from high school, he never saw that girl again.

Later, Ryota studied at the university in Osaka. After he graduated from university, he was the only one who still lived with his parents and grandmother. While his 2 older brothers, Ichiro and Keisuke had gone to work in another city. He didn't want to work somewhere far away from his family by himself. So, he decided to help his father work in the Okonomiyaki restaurant.

Although, his father wanted Ryota to have a good job as his 2 brothers. But, Ryota had already decided that he would continue his father's Okonomiyaki restaurant business, after seeing his father working in the restaurant alone. Plus, he had been working in the restaurant with his father for a long time, which made him very attached to this restaurant since he was a kid until he graduated. He had enough experience to help his father with the restaurant. Since then, he has worked as a Okonomiyaki chef helping his father in a restaurant.

Over the years, Ryota has gained more experience working in Okonomiyaki restaurants, both as a chef and as a restaurant owner like his father. He has become more mature, hard-working and responsible. But he's still the same cheerful, optimistic, energetic and friendly  his parents saw when he was a kid, no matter what he has been through in his life. Although, he sometimes feels a little lonely whenever he sees couples coming into his restaurant. Deep down, he wants someone to be by his side like his 2 older brothers. But because he's an optimistic, he still hopes to meet that person one day.

Until once day, At that time, it was 1 month before Keisuke and his 2 child, Tetsuya and Emiko go to America. Keisuke tell his parents and Ryota about that he has plan go to America with his friend, Haruki. Few hours later, Ryota call his older brother, Ichiro about Keisuke go to America. Ichiro already knew about this, because he had called him earlier. Then, Ichiro planned to go to America to find Keisuke, and Ichiro invited him to go with him. At first, Ryota didn't expect this and he wasn't sure if he should go, because he was busy with his Okonomiyaki restaurant.

Few days later, Ryota consulted his parents about going to America with his brother, Ichiro which he wasn't sure if he should do. Because, he was worried that his father would have to work in the restaurant alone while he was traveling. However, his father told him that he wanted him to go out and see the world. As for the restaurant that he was worried about, his father was still in good health and had worked alone for a long time before he came to help, so he was used to it. He felt more comfortable hearing his father say that. Which, he realized that he did not go out much unless it was a restaurant holiday. Plus, he has savings set aside for travel, and he has enough to travel abroad.

1 day later, Ryota called his brother, Ichiro back to say that he decided to go to America with him. Ichiro had the idea of ​​staying overnight at their cousin's house in America. Which, he knew well because his cousin, Simon live in America with his father. He visited them every year with his father. After that day, he started preparing everything to go to America in 1 month.

1 month later, Keisuke he traveled to America with his 2 child, Tetsuya and Emiko, and his friend, Haruki. At that time, the day would come when Ryota and his older brother, Ichiro would travel to America in a few days. It was the time when Ichiro returned home to Osaka with his luggage to pick him up, and he had also prepared his luggage.

Simon knew Richard, because they were his neighbor and friends for years. Later, Simon take he and Ichiro to Richard's house to meet Keisuke. At that moment after Keisuke is shock. Because, he can't believe and don't expect about this. But, Keisuke glad to meet them. Also he and Ichiro became friend Richard

Then later, Ryota and his brother, Ichiro explained their reasons for coming to America and others to Keisuke and Richard. While talking, Ryota noticed that Keisuke seemed happier than usual, like he in love. He ask Keisuke about that. But first, Keisuke don't want tell them. But, he and Ichiro don't stop looks and smile, when they see Keisuke blush than before. Then Keisuke told them, that he fall in love girl at Beach City. At that moment, he, Ichiro and Simon are surprised and want to know about that girl. At the same time, Keisuke told them that he would go to Beach City again tomorrow.

Later day, Ryota and his 2 brother, Ichiro and Keisuke with his 2 child go to went to Beach City, driven by his cousin, Simon (Simon knew Beach City and had been to the city a few years before by his friend, Richard). He and Ichiro arrive to Beach City, they see many gems lives in this city. They surprise what they see (it was beginning they know about gem). Then, Keisuke introduce Coral Pearl (Sango) to he and Ichiro. That moment, they can't believe and don't expect Keisuke fall in love with gem. But they glad, Keisuke met his new love after he lost his wife when years ago.

Later, Ryota waited alone on the beach, while his 2 brothers, Ichiro and Keisuke went to a Big Donut to buy donuts. While he waited, he bought some Fry Bits at Beach Citywalk Frieds. Meanwhile, he asked Mr. Fryman about many gems who came to live in this city and talked about other things. Since, he was someone who worked in the food business as a chef and owner like Mr. Fryman, he understood him, and they became fast friends.

After Ryota bought Fry Bits, he returned to the bench as usual. He wondered why his  2 brothers took so long to buy donuts, but he didn't think much of it and sat down to eat while waiting for them. As he sat there waiting for a while, he realize someone was watching him. When he turned around, he saw Mint Pearl (at that time, he don't know her) standing there looking at him innocently. At that moment, he was a little shocked. He saw her blushed slightly as if she liked him. Plus, he admitted that she was a cute girl in his thought, which made him start to be interested in her.
