Note
People hating on XB? I'm not on twt so I'm not aware of how messy things are but I hope it has calmed down by now
Apparently he’s been getting harassed by BXG fans for saying DD is straight. I’m so ashamed of these fans. It’s never OK to harass anyone, but especially not an out queer artist in China who is as skilled and talented and sweet as XB.

Note
Thanks for taking the time to write this post! As always, you did an amazing job.
Like others who are new to the fandom, I was very confused why there was so much extreme animosity between solo XZ/WYB fans and BXG. In all my time working in the music industry, I can honestly say I have never seen any fanbases act so incredibly polarized before, or with such venomous antipathy towards one another!
When I first started to follow XZ and WYB’s careers, I first followed a solo page on Facebook mostly because I wanted to keep up with news and information. I was appalled when it became quickly apparent that the owner of the group was not only intensely anti-BXG, but also extremely anti-WYB. I really didn’t understand why at the time - but your post definitely puts things in perspective.
Regarding this comment:
in China, if two stars compete for the endorsement of the same brand product, the one who loses will not get endorsements of same products from different brands — at least, not in the short term — because any brand who uses the star who lost would be seen as inferior.
Disclaimer: the following section is based on my own experience in the music industry and is not a universal statement. Industry practices may vary by region.
I never personally worked with any artists who competed for any endorsements of any products, and also never personally worked on or had anything to do with any brand/sponsorship deals for any Chinese pop artists. The whole idea of publicly competing for endorsements is so strange to me based on my own experience with brands. In the US, Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, usually, the way brands decide to allocate sponsorship money tends to be an internal corporate decision that isn’t shared with the public. Who they are considering for a brand deal is also normally an internal discussion.
I have worked on several sponsorship deals with global publicly traded companies for several major idols. In some cases, I was directly pitching the sponsorship/marketing director; in other cases, I acted as an intermediary while a talent agent worked with the sponsorship/marketing team to negotiate the terms of the sponsorship and what the deal would entail. All of it was very confidential - the brand never divulged that they were even considering the artist who was being pitched, and on our end, we certainly never revealed to the public that we were pitching the artist for a deal in the event that the deal fell through.
(Side note: most companies allocate sponsorship money in Q1 of each year, so if you’re trying to pitch an artist for a brand/sponsorship deal - pitch them in Q1. If you pitch after Q1, it isn’t impossible, but it’s harder, as the company would then need to move monies from different budgets into sponsorship, or just find a way to fund the deal.)
In any case, all of this is just very interesting to me and provides a lot of insight into why solos are so aggressive not only towards one another, but also towards CP fans as they perceive each other (and CP fans) to be some kind of existential threat for their idols - and said idol’s success.
In my opinion, it seems that most CP fans don’t care who it is that’s standing at the top of the mountain, so long as there is a mountain to stand on, because they support both artists! So if either of the artists from the CP are on top, that’s something to celebrate. But solos want not only for their idol to stand on the mountain, but for the entire damn mountain to belong to their idol.
If endorsement competition is actually public knowledge (or intentionally leaked by brands), then that means brands are weaponizing capitalism to generate existential anxiety/dread among fans, specifically to spur them to action so that they buy more of their idol’s products to support them and prop up the idol as a strong revenue generator, which then in turn boosts the idol’s popularity.
In other words, tldr; capitalism is toxic, and it seems that fan wars are a direct result of capitalism in action.
Hello. I just turned to be a turtle recently after being a solo fan mostly because of toxic atmosphere of solo fans. May I ask, were relationships between XZ and YB solos always so intense and also bad attitude to BJYX even during the promotion “the untamed”? Or did this conflict start after the events of 2020? Thank you in advance.
Hello, and Happy 2021! I’m a super new fan of the fandom, and so these aren’t questions I’m qualified to answer at all. I’m more comfortable providing some wider sociopolitical contexts to fandom-related events because I’ve been reading about Chinese news for a loooong time. My “investigative interest” (oh dear, that sounds so pretentious) is also more on understanding the CP culture in general, how it ties with the country’s state of affairs rather than focusing specifically on Gg and Dd. While I’ve read back on some history re: gg and dd’s fandoms, Tumblr is the only site where I’ve interacted directly with fellow fans.
But I’ve written up what I’ve understand about solo and CP fans for c-dramas so far, mostly for my own benefit (I have a ridiculously poor memory!). Maybe it can offer some insight? This is very new information to me as well; so, if anyone spots something wrong or wants to supplement, please jump right in!

The product of plagiarism: Ten miles of peach blossoms - Tang Qi Gong Zi.
Hello friends,
I have no idea if you guys have ever heard about the Chinese film called “Three lifetimes - Ten miles of peach blossom”(?) or something like that. But if you do, please think carefully before you buy a ticket.
You can search #‎三生三世十里桃花抄袭 or “tang qi plagiarism” for more information.
Here’s something you need to know about that movie in a nutshell:
- Back in 2007, a famous BL-novel author “Windy” (Da Fung Gui Wo - 大风刮过) wrote a book called “Peach Blossom Debt” (桃花债).
- After that “Tang Qi” (T7 - 唐七) committed plagiarism, use “Windy” work and passed it off as her own! “Tang Qi” named it “三生三世十里桃花” (Three lifetimes: Ten miles of peach blossoms). Besides, “Tang Qi” has stole ideas from many more BL-novel authors, not only “Windy”: especially “Joyful” (公子欢喜).
- Base on comparisons between “Peach Blossom Debt” and “Three lifetimes”, you can see they are really similar - up to 70% (the comparison is illustrated in the link down below). The only difference is: “Three lifetimes” is NOT a BL-novel, is BxG (shoujo) one. That makes a big difference.
The Chinese government does not like homosexual, BL-novels are technically illegal in China. That’s the first reason why “Three lifetimes” is a plagiarized work but still getting more popular. “Windy” CAN NOT sue the thief, because the judge won’t support her… Plus, “Windy” is quite timid so she just don’t want to fight.
- In fact, “Tang Qi” has a group of professionals with connections that backs her up. That explains why she can't be sue and got famous so fast.
“Tang Qi” has a terrible personality, she even mocked “Windy”: “My book is already published, what about yours? Oh, they weren’t? Do you need help from me?” “Plagiarize, plagiarize my ass.”
~Wrote by mydramalist/fudanshidesu: “The original novel is BL-themed. Needless to say, BL-themed stuff is low-profile and pretty much illegal (read underground) in China. Knowing DaFeng would have a hard time fighting the establishment, Tang Qi took DaFeng’s novel and rewrote it. She replaced homosexual characters with heterosexual characters to cater to mainstream audience… added a little spice here and there and voila! TangQi’s very own novel was born.
There’s more to the story…
Tang Qi was bold, she even made fake accounts to talk about her novels on Da Feng’s pages, she posted sh*t in the comment sections under Da Feng’s novels… Girl basically went gaga!
When people found out what TangQi was doing, things got ugly and our anti-hero, Tang Qi, decided to go full scale war. She created an account pretending to be Da Feng… Blah blah blah… Long story short, her actions harmed Da Feng’s reputation.
Today, Tang Qi is a well-known “writer” in Mainland China. So, we know the truth now! She’s a thief, who feeds and lives off of other people’s creativity, their time and effort.
If you decide to read the book/watch “Eternal Love”, please keep the above in mind and give proper credits to DaFeng, the real mind behind the story.”
- After all, “Windy” told her fans: “She (Tang Qi) did not write the story on her own but she’s still more famous than me. That’s because I’m not good enough.” – Said the author who has best-selling BL-novels, why??
It’s a long story since 2008… Hundreds of famous authors, artists, cosplayer, composer,… shared Windy’s article and boycotted “Tang Qi”; Many people hashtagged #一起来撕抄袭书, torn off “Three lifetimes” to make “Tang Qi” see their anger: http://www.weibo.com/p/100808ee2c9c99efe1425beac07329883de84f?k=%25E4%25B8%2580%25E8%25B5%25B7%25E6%259D%25A5%25E6%2592%2595%25E6%258A%2584%25E8%25A2%25AD%25E4%25B9%25A6&from=526&_from_=huati_topic.
- BUT HERE’S THE WORST PART. In 2015, they started to make “Three lifetimes” into a TV drama and movie, afraid of “Tang Qi” plagiarism responsible for low profits, that film crew bought off Weibo’s staffs, ERASED all the hashtags, articles, images,… that accused “Tang Qi” and “Three lifetimes” of stealing ideas from the search bar, to keep a lid on her plagiarism…
This is wrong. The true artist cannot gain anything, even lost her right just because she wrote a BL-novel. Are ONLY heterosexual loves beautiful, o-kay, worthy? But same-sex loves should be hidden away, ruined like that?
And what about the true talented authors, who went with their guts on their works?
- “Tang Qi” not only plagiarized BL-novel authors once but more than 5! And 2 of them had been made into film in Mainland Chinese… If the film crew hadn’t had bought off Weibo, “Three lifetimes” wouldn’t have been this popular, I believe so.
- So, if that movie will be in your area, please consider before buying the ticket!

The product of plagiarism: Ten miles of peach blossoms - Tang Qi Gong Zi.
Hello Everyone! I have communicated with the Admin of the group and he/she has allowed me to post the information here. I just wanted to bring awareness to a plagiarist in China named Tang Qi Gong Zi. I know that Tang Qi Gong Zi isn’t quite known outside of China. But I did see some people translating her work on tumblr and blogspot. I respect the effort and time these individuals put into translating Chinese novels into English, but I would just like to point out that Tang Qi Gong Zi is an author known for plagiarism. Seven years ago, Tang Qi published her book 10 miles of Peach Blossoms (Shi Li Tao Hua) as a tribute to the then already established author Da Feng Chui Guo. Many parts of 10 miles of Peach Blossom was based on Da Feng’s BL novel, Peach Blossom Debt (Tao Hua Zhai), including a lot of the story line and much of the wording. The comparison is illustrated above. As Tang Qi wrote about heterosexual pairings, she catered to more of the mainstream audiences in China. Her work soon became famous and was adapted into various TV dramas. She had an entire team protecting her from accusations of plagiarism. Tang Qi was making money off of someone else’s work but because BL novels are technically illegal in China, Da Feng was hesitant to sue her. But Tang Qi did not stop there. At first, she imitated the then more popular Da Feng’s style in hopes of luring some of Da Feng’s fans into reading her books. Everyday, Tang Qi would advertise her internet novels in the comment section of Da Feng’s novels using different IDs. When fans commented on how Tang Qi might be a Pseudonym of Da Feng, Tang Qi never dispelled the notion. Eventually, people found out from Da Feng that Tang Qi was just copying her style. Things didn’t end here. Tang Qi created an account on the novel posting website’s anonymous board pretending to be Da Feng and started a post condoning the plagiarism. With the account, she used Da Feng’s fans against her and created posts all over the internet about how terrible Da Feng is as a person. Seven years later, Tang Qi has become much more popular than Da Feng, though her fans are mostly tweens who have yet to read great literature. Still, it didn’t stop Tang Qi from lashing out at her own imitator, Ye Xiao. Attacked by Tang Qi’s army of fans, Ye Xiao eventually stopped writing all together. But This incident also reminded the internet the fact that Tang Qi was a plagiarist herself. I just hope that the next time anyone reads her novels, they’ll remember that she’s a copy cat and she never apologized for her actions. Here is a link to a blog post with comparisons of the two works side by side: https://hamster428.wordpress.com/…/plagiarism-allegations-…/ The translator used to translate Tang Qi's works, but stopped after finding out that she was a copy cat.

cpn : tidbits and interview clues 🔍
Tumblr media
“However, happiness is definitely the first choice, and steady happiness is more suitable for me."
everything is cpn only. interpretation & speculations. everything is under the cut. if you don’t like any of this, then feel free to skip it.
I. Tidbits / Behind the scenes showing Xiao Zhan’s numerous skills. Here is the video.
This particular behind the scenes showed GG’s skills that we are familiar with. He worked as a professional photographer and is an expert in PS especially logo making. Not really a big one but just a reminder that he still has it! and if we’re right with our CPN that he made the 85 logo, well this is just another proof. Nevermind the fact that we have them on video/audio talking about GG designing a suit ( racing suit ) for Web. Is the Macbook his? Lol. The wallpaper is blurred and I’m thinking of all kinds of thing. 😂
Tumblr media
I’m also noticing that here in OOL and Ace, he was using a professional camera to shoot. Compared to CQL where he was using his own phone to take videos and photos of Yibo. Tho I’m happy that GG is getting back on photography and he is able to do that during work, I can’t help but think keeping things on your phone is more personal.
They match. GG/Web are both multi talented. If they decide to not be actors anymore, they have other careers to fall back to. That’s what I love about them. Big age gap? Opposites? It may seem like that on the surface but if you look at the core of it, they complement each other. No one has the “upper hand” no matter how fans love to label them with dynamics. They are on equal footing and respect each other’s preferences. GG can teach Web things and vice versa. Art Student vs Sports Student couple indeed!
Tumblr media
Artist Xiao Zhan was also in full view here where he drew this. It’s so funny, is this a brother and sister? What? I’m not being all bitter here but that’s what I was thinking when I saw this. Not really a romantic pose too. it reminds me tho of how he drew wangxian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry but since we’re talking about drawings, it’s in the same style as the one bxgs always reference for Devil Timeline. 👿
Tumblr media
Bonus: This smile is similar to his impersonation of Web’s “smirk”. Remember OOL was shot in 2019 around the same time all these CQL promos were done and released. ✌🏼
Tumblr media
II. Sina Entertainment Exclusive interview. transcript is here.
I love things like this cause it really gives us an intimate view into his thoughts. 🤍 The whole point of this is to show their similarities among other things.
• This part about tiredness reminds me of Web’s Global people 2020 interview where he has the same outlook. Tho I would love for them to take a break, I can understand the need to keep on working. That’s just who they are. Since 2018, friends or more, they both have the same goal of being actors. We can all see how hard they work and i’m sure they understand the sacrifices they have to make.
Xiao Zhan’s :
"This kind of tiredness is a good thing for me..."
"In the past, I occasionally felt tired when I said it, then relax, and then the two little people in my heart began to fight each other, one said no, no; the other said relax, they are so tired, relax It won't be a problem for a while, just let it pass."
Now, the little person in his heart who made him "let him go and take a break" no longer exists, Xiao Zhan is on the other end of the phone, speaking in a calm tone.
"You really don't feel too tired?" Hearing his strict requirements for himself, Entertainment Management Studio couldn't help asking.
"I feel tired, but I'd rather be tired now."
Yibo’s :
Tumblr media
• The last sentence makes me go 👀. The costume drama he was promoting is obviously CQL, he still has to make his way through? Why? It’s just so hard to move on from CQL and that whole bubble of promos back in 2019.
Although he has recognition and confidence, Xiao Zhan would still feel a little uncomfortable when he first joined the group to shoot. At that time, the "Douluo Continent" starring him had just finished, and he was still running the promotion of another costume drama. Although he wanted to integrate into the new role as soon as possible, he still had to slowly find his way.
• How they both won’t stop till something is perfect and up to their standard. I’m not gonna add an interview example for Yibo, just watch his SDOC practice and see how much of a perfectionist he is. Like last season where he wasn’t afraid to scrap a whole routine cause it didn’t feel right.
Xiao Zhan :
"When shooting on set, the director will adjust it again and again. After the performance, I will wonder if there is something wrong with my acting, but the director will not tell you where the problem is, and will say a kind of Feel it, then do it again."
• similarity in not being afraid of hardship. they know it’s necessary. 😭 They don’y shy away from “difficult” things.
Xiao Zhan :
"But it's difficult doesn't mean you can't do it well. This is what I have always believed."
Yibo in China Top Dancer Gala interview 2021:
I am very happy to do what I like, and at the same time to promote dance; I like dancing, and I have to keep working hard. I myself will not admit defeat, and I am not afraid of hardship.
I can think of a lot more interviews where Yibo just goes fuck that when people say something is “difficult”. He has proven time and again that whatever he sets his mind to, he can achieve it. It is the same with Xiao Zhan. People love to tell them they can’t achieve what they want because they are somehow not “qualified” but they prove them wrong time and time again.
• Now the thing that’s about ~ love ~ 🤍
"Actually, Gu Wei and I have similar views on love. We are both more traditional and will be single-minded." But for the future family, he has not thought of the distant family. In this step, "However, happiness is definitely the first choice, and steady happiness is more suitable for me."
There will be such a feeling, maybe it comes from some kind of similarity. Gu Wei's work in the play will always be in the first place. When he meets his beloved, he will not say all the words directly. Most of the time, I am in a state of seeing through and not saying anything. I have a lot in my heart and understand everything, but I am always pretending to be stupid, and occasionally I am a little black-bellied.
Where do we even begin. 👀
1. Traditional and Single Minded? Single minded reminds me so much of Yibo too. If they want something, they will get it. Is this how he approached Yibo? Yeah sure. So single minded. His whole self just gazing with the “i’m inlove with him” face.

2. “steady happiness is more suitable for me”
This line comes at a perfect time. I just read @rainbowsky’s post about fandom and it’s doubts. Especially with antis left and right or whatever reason. It goes to show what type of happiness and love he prefers. The quiet and steady one. Tho I’m sure they are not short of grand gestures of love, he likes the stable and comfortable one. People talk about “falling hard” but most often than not, that kind burns out fast. I’m happy that he has that kind of love with Yibo. So stable that his puppy has been wearing his necklaces ( from ox to bone ) continuously for years now as a sign of their steady happiness. 🥺
So yeah, fandom-wise. Just chill. Enjoy things and know what GG actually prefers this type of relationship.
3. This is what got me screaming! Please! 🙀
he will not say all the words directly. Most of the time, I am in a state of seeing through and not saying anything. I have a lot in my heart and understand everything, but I am always pretending to be stupid, and occasionally I am a little black-bellied.
Bitch this screams 2018 BoXiao! Especially in unofficial BTS videos. Tho I have to say GG’s words and interpretation of himself may not be 100%. What I mean, sometimes, what we think about ourselves is different from how other people see us. Especially in relationships, the other party might have something completely different to say. Pretending to be stupid even if he knows everything??? I’m just think about GG play fighting, teasing and borderline flirting with Yibo but still pretending that they are just FRIENDS. He knows. Anyone with eyes can see that Yibo was head over heels in love with him back then. I’m just cackling here. Xiao Zhan! Youuuuu!!!! He really did that! 😂😂😂 Good thing Yibo is the straightforward type so it all worked out in the end.
and him describing himself as black bellied. Lol. To those who are not familiar with it, here’s the meaning:
"Black belly"/ 腹黑(fu hei) is a common term used to describe a character's personality in c-novels. Literally, it means stomach black and is usually used to mean that someone is secretly quite evil/sly/manipulative, because you will only know that the person is black belly after being eaten up.
Tho I don’t think he means anything bad, it just fits what most of us CPN about Xiao Zhan during their “courting”. We all say that Yibo was so obvious but GG was so much worse in his “moves”. His 6 years of experience wasn’t wasted 🤣🤣🤣 20/21 year old Yibo had no chance!
Sly look” also reminds me of how he looked at Yibo’s direction during Tencent Starlight. 👀
Tumblr media
I wanted to include the sassy interview but there is no full sub yet. I might go back to that but I liked the SINA + Tencent one better cause it’s more personal. Again, everything is just CPN. Feel free to interpret things how you want. It’s not that everything has to be connected to their “relationship” — they are just so intertwined that we see hints of each other in what they do.

cpn : things that happened over the weekend
Tumblr media
same disclaimer applies. all speculation. 🙃
• I posted about the WeChat group and their respective avatars used. Here is the actual recorded part of the stream incase you want to see.
GG’s avatar is a photo from NASA ( Sunrise seen from the space station ) which just proves once more that he is a nerd. Lol. can we please let him star in an interstellar movie? I’m sure he’d love that. and it’s not the first time he took a picture of something like that ( sunrise or sunset ). Also A coincidence? It looks the same as Nian’s stage design in the last NYE show. I know Nian had the whole galaxy theme going on but what are the chances. Another one of those things that they both love.

Web’s is a wolf ( but we all know he is a puppy sooo ) and BXGs are saying it’s probably connected to this interview. Note that it could have different meanings for zhan-lang 🤍

• 入戏 oath of love exclusive interview with Xiao Zhan. My favorite, trying to interpret the things he says. The more popular one that came out from this was about “blue sky and white clouds” which has always been a BXG thing. So for the interviewer to bring that up has made us all go 👀.
Tumblr media
You can watch it here. The CPN is, he became more animated and sort of defensive ( when he said, it’s not like that let me explain.. ) while talking about it. The whole interview was chill and had a steady flow except for that part. There are a few possibilities on why this is so:
1. He just really gets excited when talking about his creative process that’s why he explained it that why. Instead of just a simple answer.
2. He is keeping something that’s why he is saying so much and trying to take the person’s attention to a different topic. In this case his design process. You know when you give more details when you’re lying/hiding something? that one.
3. The interviewer asked if he interacted with nature. Maybe he doesn’t want to give a clue where he was at that time ( 2020 ) & one of the photos he took, we CPN that it was taken in the same place XMLY Ad was taken. Or that he was in XB where BAH was being filmed and had beautiful blue sky & white clouds. He was trying to make it seem like it’s just a random thing he saw and inspired him vs him being out and about.
Interpret it however you want but I’m just happy it got mentioned.
Now moving on to his quote about not living in the past.
XZ: “i won’t go back. not to enjoy the present, but because i think this isn’t something you can think about deeply. if you do, you’ll sink into endless internal conflict and negativity. i don’t think anyone should live in the past. but you need to sum up what you did poorly in the past, accept it, and move forward.”
WYB: “there are a lot of regrets you have in life, but there’s not need to mention it. if you regret it then leave it in the past and it’s ok”
Same energy again. Well, they are not the only two people in the world with the same outlook when it comes to the past/regrets. I’m just pointing out how similar they are and that’s why they get along so much. They look so different on the surface ( art student vs sports student lol ) but the two have the same values and that’s what matters.
He also mentioned that he’s the same as Gu Wei who took alot of interest classes ( example GG learned how to play the violin ). Web had a similar experience during his childhood because he was a curious child roller skating, guitar, chinese painting/sketching and street dance etc. Not to mention you have so many types of street dance and he tried to learn it all. Ahhhh!!!! Our multi talented boys! 😊 And i’m sure they love to learn about each other’s hobbies as well ( like GG learning how to skateboard but ended up just enjoying a hoverboard ).
Tumblr media
• The FAN! Hahahahaha! A makeup artist from OOL posted this, the black fan GG used. Which is ( allegedly given by Bobo ) the same one he used in CQL and continues to do so even in YGY.
Tumblr media
BONUS: BXGs at it again with comparing BoXiao to Hyunbin and Son Ye Jin. I didn’t watch CLOY or anything but this is 👀. Not really trying to make them look like a het relationship or anything, to me ( personally ) it just shows that it doesn’t matter the gender— love looks the same.
