It's isn't an uncommon simile/metaphor, but these two things happen so close together my brain has decided they're connected:

A little romance moment with Aerin at the end of chapter 11 and Bakshi at the beginning of chapter 12, talking about Nifara's dress.

I'll keep searching my mind palace for instances where this is used. Because I feel like there must be more and I have every intention of taking these connections past their logical conclusion.

It's not 'moth to a flame,' but we do get moth imagery in Book 1 Nia's outfit! In universe, it's probably a moth, given their apparent connection to Nifara and the Light. But in terms of design intent, I think you could also take it as a butterfly, symbolizing her transformation into something new and free. It does also work as a moth, with Nia being the most devoted to the Light, regardless of her frustration with the institutions around it.
