Confession time: I’m a perfectionist. No photo I take is good enough for me. I constantly compare my base level canon photos with my 50 mm prime to my peers who have $10,000 studio set ups and have spent thousands on food photography schools. _ I’m working on not comparing myself to my blogging peers and friends. But, excuse the language, working on it makes my ass itch. As a child, I was always the best: the one things come naturally to, the one who understands the easiest, the one who remembers the most information (I memorized every single article in my mini Blue Jacket’s manual in the Navy. I was that person.) But blogging is a whole ‘nother story. _ Running your own business is hard work. I started late in the blogging game due to my perfectionism and serious lack of support as a teenager. I feel like I’m 1,000 steps behind everyone else way too often. Like my lighting is off, my editing skills are subpar, my composition looks like a bag of ass, my posts ramble. Do I even belong in this space? Then I pause. Yes, of course I do. _ I’ll never work in the back of another restaurant house again (though I will shoot your restaurant’s photos) because of this amazing outlet. I couldn’t see myself using my love for cooking and artistry any other way. Even though it’s hard. Even if my photos look weak sauce (to me) compared to @halfbakedharvest and @butterbeready. _ Because I’m happy, and I’m growing, and I’m still succeeding. Perfectionism is just another way of saying “imposter syndrome”, and I can’t let it get in my way. _ So I suggest you don’t let it get in yours either. Work hard. Grow everyday.
