*The Nick Jr. Villians gather around a broken coffee machine.*
Crusher: So... who broke it?
*No one answers*
Crusher: I'm not mad. I just want to know.
Big Trouble: I did, I broke—
Crusher: No, no you didn't. Swiper?
Swiper: Don't look at me. Look at Marmalady.
Marmalady: What? I didn't break it.
Swiper: Huh. That's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?
Marmalady: Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken.
Swiper: *Leans on Marmalady* Suspicious.
Humdinger: If it matters, probably not… but Zeta was the last one to use it.
Zeta: Liar! I don't even drink that crap!
Humdinger: Oh, really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?
Zeta: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles, everyone knows that, Humdinger!
Big Trouble: Ok, ok! Let's not fight! I broke it, let me pay for it Crusher!
Crusher: No! Who broke !?!
*Marmalady looks at Little Trouble*
Marmalady: Crusher… Little Trouble's been awfully quiet.
Big Trouble: REALLY??
Marmalady: Yeah! Really.
Big Trouble: Oh, my god!
*Everyone starts arguing.*
Crusher: I broke it. It burned my hand, so I punched it. I predict ten minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with war paint on their faces and a pig head on a stick.
😇: hey everyone!! So I made a little comic in honor of the 20th anniversary of "Foster's home for Imaginary friends"!! Heads up tho, I wanted to suprise Terr with this little comic. Hope you enjoy!!
i just saw an ad on tv about a new show coming to disney called pupstruction, quite sure its supposed to be a pun on construction but it sounds a lot like destruction to me
anyway that wasnt my point, rubble and crew just came out earlier this year. its a spinoff series of paw patrol about rubble, the construction pup, and his construction crew (not the paw patrol, new characters) which is on Nickelodeon
it just seems like theyre always coming out with similar shows pretty close together. a few years ago Nickelodeon had butterbeans cafe, which was about fairies running a cafe/bakery, and the head one had a magical whisk (they all had magical things depending on their talent or w/e) i think that show ended in 2020. now disney is coming out with alice's wonderland bakery which seems SUPER similar, looks like alice even has a magical whisk
sidenote, ive seen Nickelodeon advertising on disney and cartoon network quite a bit recently.
i went to a cafe to work on my portfolio site, which is coming along nicely. i've added some drawings which i may or may not remove depending on how embarrassed i am to share them. i edited my story a little, i'm really liking how it's coming together. i also did a crossword with my sister, and some writing admin (pitching + thank you emails).
AFTERNOON
i went to the shop to buy food then came home and had lunch (butterbean + kale + courgette + chilli medley w rye bread). i was struck by tiredness so spent the afternoon napping and finishing reading my book, which i've found completely compelling and beautifully written and so close to something i'd want to write myself. then i went on a short walk with my camera!
EVENING
i made myself a roast dinner and watched paris is burning, which i had never seen before. i found it beautiful and tragic in equal measure. i worked a little on my review. currently in bed deciding what to read next.
it's always funny to me how nickelodeon claims that shows with female protagonists don't sell well even though they have lots shows with female protagonists (my life as a teenage robot, the legend of korra, dora the explorer, shimmer and shine, icarly, victorious, nella the princess knight, butterbean's cafe) but at the same time, push female characters like skye as the center of attention for the sake of girl power
don't get me wrong, it's nice that little girls can be represented as strong and powerful but sometimes it's too much, just look at how the show treats skye nowadays
what do you think?
Admittedly, I can't say too much about their comments regarding female-driven shows not selling as well, although I imagine it doesn't matter what gender's in the lead role, so long as the program itself is good and has actual staying power.
The truth is, it's always a great thing to show that women are just as capable as men. However, like I said a while back, it becomes a problem when you push that message too much. "Women are just as capable" starts to become "women are better", and PAW Patrol has become guilty of this. Equality seems to have shifted to domination.
It's a shame Marshall's been pushed to the side many times in favor of Skye, and with her new Mighty Movie super strength, Mighty Rubble's become less useful now, too (which we unfortunately seen for ourselves in the latest episodes). Even Chase has felt the sting of this, seeing as how his spy drone gets less use now because of her ("night vision" was his thing, but then Skye suddenly had it out of nowhere at the end of season 7). How much longer until this happens to the other pups, too? She has an underwater vehicle now, so will Zuma get pushed to the side even more at some point? Someone tell Rocky to beware...
The thing is, Nickelodeon's not the only one doing this right now. Even the Super Mario Bros. Movie had Peach be super-duper awesome and better than every male character in the film, so it's seems to be a phase the entertainment industry's going through right now. Who knows when or if it'll ever let up.
