sometimes when interacting with tumblr book opinions i feel like i need a disclaimer that i only gave house of leaves 3/5 stars and i thought it fell short of being impactful to me
#i saw a post that i ridnt disagree with buteh i didnt feel like reblogging it and it popped that in at the end#and i feel like tumblr book community references it pretty liberally as an objectively amazing book#and im like.. i dunno man i thought it was#spoiler look away#stupid that his brother dies and never comes back and yet he gets to have his sweet reunion#and i thought the other writer guy was a charicature and it was distracting#and i dont think the horror of the hallways makes up for it. frankly those parts of the book were boring to read#the whole like stylization of the book is cool yeah#but it doesnt endear me to the parts of the story i didnt care for#the best sequence is while hes lost alone. and the ending felt like it snatched all that back#and i didnt like that the picture was a real photograph that exists already with a real photographer#and i didnt like the meta implication presented where none of these other people were worthy but this guy is

Starting a scrap journal back up too, and since I couldn't get a lot of work done today because of the heat, figured I should utilize some time with this so I wasn't completely useless... even though all I really wrote about was being completely useless 😅 #journal #scrapbook #planner #daily journal #scrapbooking #art #traditionalart #traditionalartist #mylifewithmister #rescuedog #rescuesforever #planneraddict #notreallyaplanner #buteh #myart #scrapjournal #deco #crafts #cute #love

So my friend got back from anger management class and we discussed this note that he gave me earlier. I asked him "hey man, did this note have relation to the individual that supposedly ignored you on his blog?" and surprisingly enough he said that it wasn't actually directed at you it was to directed to another person.

Native Lady from Umritsar: Outfit Details
By Horace Van Ruith (1880)

'Native Lady from Umritsar' is a late nineteenth century oil painting depicting a lady wearing very elaborate, embroidered garments. The artist, Horace Van Ruith (1839-1923) produced a documentary record of the jewellery and clothes of a lady from Amritsar, now in India, and part of the historic region of the Panjab. The painting is currently housed at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
The woman, who seems to be from a wealthy family judging by her extravagant attire, is wearing an outfit consisting of a kurta, two dupattas, a full ghagra, and churidar. It is likely that all of the main garments were made from silk cloth. Her outer, transparent shawl is decorated with buteh motifs along the transverse edges and isolated small, round motifs scattered over the ground. These are all worked in white.
Underneath this covering she is wearing another, green covering that is edged with a wide band in gold thread work (zari). She is also wearing a red kurta edged along the hems with zari work. Her full, blue silk ghagra also has a deep band in zari and gotapatti work. Finally, her curled tip mojaris (mules) were embroidered with metal thread embroidery.
In addition to all of her decorative clothing, she is wearing a full set of head, ear, nose, neck, arm, hand, ankle and foot jewellery.

She is exquisitely decked in precious metal ornaments from head to toe. Starting from the top, she is wearing a dauni (a mathapatti with two strands) which adds extra reinforcement and allows for heavier pendants, which in this case is a chand tikka. On the side of her head is another chand tikka, known as chand bina. On her ears she is wearing baalis supported by kanautis.
She is wearing a kokka on the right side of her nose, and an elaborate nath with a latkan on the left side.

On her neck she is wearing a galpatta, a champakali, and a matar mala.
Her hands are adorned with a hathphool or kari panjangla, several rings including an arsi (mirrored ring) with a kangan and multiple chooris on each side, and a bajuband (armlet) on her arm.

She can be seen wearing pahzeb which are made of silver and are supposed to clink when the wearer walks, as well as a khalkhal or kharian-apir which is like a kara, but for the ankles. She is also wearing bichiya or toe rings in a set of five.

Paisley Textile Patterns

An easily recognized motif, Paisley, is one of many variations. The name “Paisley” is associated with the Scottish city where woven Paisley shawls were manufactured to replace the costly Indian cashmere shawls, which were imported for the very wealthy European market. However, the motif originated in India as “Butah “ (Buteh) the Hindu word, meaning flower. The French called the design “palmette”, the English knew it as “flame and spearhead pine”. The motif, whether an elaborate teardrop design or a plant form with leaves and stem or a pinecone and medallion form, has been adapted for centuries for use in art and textiles. The design is marked by an absence of dimension and can be found as a simple , singular form or as an allover, elaborate design depending upon the requirement of the finished textile.
