A prologue of sorts. Set some decade or so before the events of Moby-Dick, on Ahab and Starbuck’s second voyage together. Ahab is the Captain of the Pequod, and Starbuck the Second Mate.

binged the x-men movies the other week and i've decided that the logan x scott x jean throuple is about five times better when you imagine it as a lesbian polycule for reasons listed below

i think logan would make a beautiful butch lesbian

the inherent sexual tension between scott and logan is so much more fun when yuri-fied

logan deserves a girlfriend (jean) and a girlenemy (scott)

i think the image of logan pissing scott off on purpose is amusing to me and also i think it'd be better if they were both lesbians

logan and scott having nothing in common with each other (at first) except their love for jean would be a great dynamic that would lead to #awesome hate sex imo

i think scott would make a beautiful lesbian woman

jean keeping these two in line would be infinitely more attractive to me personally

unrelated but i think logan would piss scott off on purpose because she was hot when she was mad but logan wouldn't realize that was why she was goading scott in the first place until scott yanks her into an angry make out session

they sort of mellow out after that and jean is just happy her girls are finally getting along (they r railing each other a few times a week in the garage when logan goes down to bother scott while she's trying to work on her motorcycle after logan's fucked with it again)

i also think scott would make a very attractive lesbian with the addition of her motorcycle in the mix

SNAP might be my brainchild but it's always been deeply enriched by bandying around ideas with friends, and @oldboyjensenhinglemeier has thrown in some absolutely marvelous characters i've finally gotten around to digitizing. (Roadmaster is also her idea!) you might recognize Dis from a prior post

Dispensor Convoy is the best vending machine on Cybertron. literally, he's been alt mode exalted and given the title of Convoy and everything. his cushy Senate job bored him to death, however, and he followed his friend Shockwave to work as cafeteria staff and general friendly nuisance at the JAAT. he may not be as good as the drink-mixing master Maccadam, but he still serves a mean caffEn with a side of piping hot gossip to boot, and only the bravest dare try his near toxic gamer juice. more than anything else, he wants the students, faculty, and Shockwave especially to thrive, and will be throwing the full weight of his social expertise behind this goal. well, except perhaps not for Thunderhoof. irritating the mech he might have once brushed shoulders with in the mob is too fun ;)

Servo followed her boss Roadmaster here after the latter accepted a teaching position in the JAAT. previously a cohost on Roadie's educational nature show Quintessential Creatures, she's now putting those skills to use as a levelheaded and fair teacher's assistant. as a Eukarian borehound beastformer who's already been in the limelight, Servo is well accustomed to people who dismiss or belittle her for being a companion animal, and honestly would sometimes prefer it that way. she's happiest when she can help out, whether that be teaching a class about how insecticons pupate, repairing broken desks with her superb handymech skills, or running a tabletop game for fellow nerdy faculty. even when she fades into the background, her versatility and kindness makes her an invaluable addition to the JAAT, one might even say a universal constant

i am not quite sure what midjourney was trying to do in image 2, is that meant to be a work overall of sorts? i don't know enough about vintage fashion and neither does midjourney, i am fairly sure. i'd say image 1 is 1920s or 30s and image 3 is 1950s. 2 could be early 20th century, some time before the 20s? anyway, this is just for our imagination to go run wild :-)

i am slowly getting midjourney to make less feminine women. and less thin ones too. i find it intersting that it was creating interracial couples without being prompted. i also was not actually asking for historic looking images.

i also notice that it still has that flaw where all the figures in an image will look somewhat similar: body-shape, height, and even the hair are similar. it was really hard to get to a point where two women are masc and femme respectively. and yet, you can see how they mirror each other in their clothes and everything. even the hair styles all look shortish or pinned up.

Can finally show off my full lesbian piece for Classics But Make It Gay III!

And for some context about my piece, it's a reimagining of this illumination from the Codex Manesse (13th C) The lead couple are butch/femme lesbians and their two friends are both non-binary, as shown with their clothing which mixes masculine & feminine styles. Also as you can see I wanted to make one of the lead figures visibly disabled and so she uses mobility aids based on those i’ve seen in other manuscript evidence from the medieval period.

Some months later, after a particular lowering, the aft oarsmen of the Second Mate's boat is injured and unable to row, and the cabin boy Pip is commanded to take his place. On Pip's first lowering, however, he startles upon a brush with a whale and jumps from the boat. Infuriated at the inconvenience of a Black child Stubb deems less valuable than his hunt, Stubb threatens that should he jump from the boat again, he will be left there to drown. Im seooo bad at putting this shit into words so bear with me bbut part of y I like Billie being butch/masc is bc I feel like Poppy would Hate her even more. And Billie being the complete opposite, like openly queer, very flirty towards any woman she finds attractive (including her) and just like feeling like she can be herself (I wouldn't say authentic self because all the Fancy stuff isn't very Billie, though she comes to enjoy it and get used to it). And being attracted to Billie despite how much she hates her like out of all the women to break down the wall it'd have to be her GSGSGS.

what are your favourite shakespeare retellings/adaptations?

Of all time? Oh my gosh this is a hard question because I truly love so many.

I'll start with Hamlet, for which I'll unfortunately have to name them all because I haven't met a Hamlet retelling I didn't like (and they're all so different and doing different cool things!)

The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie This one is very loosely a Hamlet adaptation, but I love it so much as one regardless. It's a very large-scope godpunk high fantasy, but I love the focus on Horatio (my fave character) and the fact that the Hamlet retelling is more an Easter egg than an imposed story.

Antique Roman by Syd Neben Almost inversely to The Raven Tower, this is verrrry directly a Hamlet retelling. In fact, I would pitch it more as published Hamlet/Horatio fanfiction. It reminds me of Dead Poets Society and even OHSHC in weird ways, but it's such a love letter to Hamlet and Horatio's tragic romance.

Enter Ghost by Isabella Hammad This one has really been living in my head since I read it earlier this year. This is less of a retelling, and more an exploration. It is very much a book that exists to express the necessity of storytelling as a tool of revolution, comparing Hamlet to Palestinian experiences and finding parallels in its narrative. Genuinely one of the most impactful books I've ever read.

The Death I Gave Him by Em X. Liu Liu's brain is fucking massive. This sci-fi locked room thriller retelling of Hamlet is so intense and claustrophobic and weird and gay. In this version, Horatio is literally an AI database and the sentient building in which the story takes place which is so weird and SO GENIUS. I have a really long review about it here.

Smile and Be A Villain by Yves Donlon This is a historical fantasy reimagining of Hamlet. It's super diverse, and I adore the heavy political landscape used to expand the world of this play. Donlon brings the battlefield and international politics to the forefront of Hamlet here, and in doing so, makes a really refreshing argument about this story. Also historically accurate QPR between Hamlet and Ophelia!

Beyond Hamlet retellings, I only have a few I really truly adore enough to include.

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio So... this is my favorite book of all time. It's mostly because I lived it. But this book so perfectly encapsulates the harm in higher educational theatre spaces of merge self with character, while exploring Shakespearean archetypes and turning them on their head.

The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake I am not a big YA reader, and not a big contemporary reader, but this bisexual YA contemporary Twelfth Night retelling just really captured me. It hit home.

The Stars Undying by Emery Robin This counts right? This is a sci-fi reimagining of Julius Caesar, partially the Shakespeare and partially the history. One of the most objectively perfect books I've ever read in terms of craft, and I'm SO excited for the sequel, which I assume will be a retelling of Antony and Cleopatra! (It has bi JC and bi Cleopatra and butch lesbian Mark Antony and Alexander the Great as a dead gay god who lives inside a pearl.)

Yeah, I hope that answered your question! There's definitely others I've read and would recommend, and so so so many on my TBR, but those are the ones that I would call favorite retellings.

The World of Giantesses:

Different types of giant women inhabit different areas of the world, unbeknown to most humans (with exceptions). These groups include the Sky Titans and the Ocean Leviathans.

The G4E is a squad of 10 ladies who are trying to get their super-hero business up and running (outside of work, they're besties :)). The population of those with super powers are relatively gynocentric (i.e., girls and women are most likely to have super powers, and the few non-female people who have powers are prone to having fewer and weaker abilities).

Bunny, Butch, Boggle, and Ballast are four final girls in a semi-apocalyptic world where many live in fear of serial killers. They befriend each other and team up to hunt down killers and save civilians. These girlies started out as fun motivational stickers and have since developed into OCs. There are also other groups of final girls, though I haven't posted about them yet.
