i keep seeing this “hear me out cake” trend on tiktok where people stick pictures of their hear me out characters on a cake and they’re all just *not conventionally attractive guy* *older man* *obvious monsterfucker choice* *not conventionally attractive guy* *anthropomorphic animal with attractive personality* *monster/non-human with attractive personality*
if shit on your hear me out list isn’t on the same level if not worse than like. bibble fairytopia i don’t want to hear it. i need to be physically incapable of even beginning to understand how this attraction came to be. i need to see characters who the sheer thought of kissing and/or fucking them sends me into cardiac arrest

Eddie, shoving his phone in Steve’s face: Stevie, tell me a story from your childhood.
Steve: No, everytime I do, you tell me that I had a bad childhood.
Eddie: Because it’s the truth. Tell me a funny story. Tell the people something funny.
Steve:
Steve, giving in: I don’t know if it’s funny but one time my neighbor told on me to my dad because I was on the roof.
Steve: So, I got caught and you think I would’ve gotten in trouble for being on the roof, right?
Eddie: Right.
Steve: Wrong. I got in trouble for not wearing shoes.
Eddie: …I think that passes. Not really funny, but amusing and there is a parent parenting for possibly the first and only time. Good job.
Steve: Thanks.

I’ve said this before, but I always found stories that frame heaven as “evil” and hell as “good” (or less bad) to be genuinely boring. I like more nuanced approaches to each realm.
I understand that for a lot of people, Christianity is a religion they like to criticize and mock, but I feel like if you don’t even understand the fundamentals of the religion, why even attempt to critique it?

Idk if people who hate/dislike Ashton didn’t grow up around actual punks, have never consumed media centered around punks, or are just obtuse. Nobody owes you magnanimity. Fictional characters can be grouchy and rude and imperfect and refuse to mask their hatred of corrupt systems. Real people do all the time. He has a charisma of 6. Could be neurodivergence. Could be the base level of chronic pain keeping them from giving a shit about other people’s feelings. Grog had an intelligence of 6, so like, do the math maybe?

Polyamory is not inherently bad or toxic, it just has higher demands on time and energy to manage multiple relationships, which means people who would arguably struggle to manage an entirely mono relationship are going to struggle even more in a poly one, and due to the interlocking relationships and elevated public scrutiny, that’s going to be viewed as much messier than it would otherwise.

...I don't understand why you quoted me but didn't reblog what I said. Or even tag me. (I don't have issue with that. Let me help you. @sidsinning) Looks a little like you didn't want anybody to actually read my points, because if they did, they'd see that you're just repeating yourself even though I addressed everything you already said. And also, you misquoted me, to make what I said look dumber. What was the point of that?
Here’s my original response that sidsinning is badly quoting and hiding, to anyone reading who cares. 🤷‍♀️
In fact it suddenly feels a lot like you don't want to have any kind of actual exchange about Cinderella. Which is a shame. I saw your long post with the pictures and the examples and I liked that you cared enough and I jumped to the conclusion that you'd be the kind of person who could exchange ideas. Listen to what someone else has to say, absorb it, measure whether or not they may have a point, and then respond to those points with fresh reasons why their wrong. But uh…you’re just dismissing any points you don’t like (not proving them wrong) and then repeating yourself. Which, again: a shame.
I'll respond to your points again. Because I like to talk about the real, actual Cinderella, she's my favorite. 🤷‍♀️
I never ignored her abusive situation; I just put it in its proper context. I never said freedom wasn’t a main part of the story—I said it wasn’t the main point.
I could go paragraph-by-paragraph again, and highlight how ridiculous it is for you to say she’s “just distracting herself” or “she’s not thinking about faith or being good to others” (are you serious?) but I’m noticing that you don’t actually consider all of what I say, you just dismiss it because you don’t like it.
Case in point: I didn’t just tell you about the original fairy tale. I gave you a point about the original, then showed you how the same thing was emphasized in 1950, then how the same thing was emphasized again in 2015.
I did that on purpose, because you’re right: you don’t need all the background to appreciate what 2015 does, in general. But you, specifically, demonstrated that you’ve so clearly missed the actual point of what Cinderella is, that I figured starting at the beginning and trying to give you a new foundation would help.
Except you just…reject any evidence that’s not in line with how you already want to perceive the story. So that didn’t work.
So I’m not going to go through this paragraph-by-paragraph again—it’s a waste of time.
Instead, I’ll just say this.
Pick an argument. You’re contradicting yourself.
Did she have “agency” and “fight to be free?” Or was she rewarded by the mice and the fairy godmother for her kindness?
Because those two ideas, the way you’re presenting them, actually don’t work together—not the way YOU’RE presenting them.
The way I, and the story, and especially 2015, present those two ideas does make them work together.
Her agency is her self-sacrificial kindness. She stays in the attic because she isn’t fighting for freedom because she is free already. It doesn’t matter where she is or who is being unkind to her—she stays unbroken, faithful to kindness in the face of her enemies, and even joyful. They can’t take that away. They can’t twist her into something she’s not—not even if they lock her in an attic and take away the prince. Because the Prince wasn’t her freedom. Her faith was her freedom, and they can’t take it away.
But you would say that she needs to change her situation, she needs to change how people treat her or go somewhere where she can “be free to love.”
Silly goose. You’ve misunderstood. She’s always been free to love and always will be, and she knows it. They can’t take that from her. They can take her ability to see the Prince again from her (except no they can’t, because goodness is rewarded and she knows it) but they can’t take how she feels about him or the time they already shared away. That’s why she’s singing. Because she’s above the circumstances.
That’s the point. That’s better and higher and truer than “change your situation.” Which is what you’re saying.
(And for the record, she still has moments where her faith wavers, and obviously wishes things were different sometimes, and has room in her heart to love a prince instead of being jaded toward everyone and everything—that’s where the human element that people can relate  to comes in. Obviously. For the further record: who does that? Who responds to devastation and unfair suffering and abuse by rising above it? Jesus Christ. It’s a Christian fairy tale.)
UNNECESSARY AND UNHINGED RANT ABOUT CINDERELLA'S CHARACTER FROM CINDERELLA (2015) INCOMING
Lemme talk about Cinderella from Cinderella (2015) for a bit actually yeah because these changes to my girl completely baffle me
Tumblr media
She has friends now
Goes outside on her own
Says the only reason why she's staying is because it's her parent's house- bruh.
All of this takes away (+ more reasons down the cut) from the true cruelty of OG!Cinderella's backstory and how it all connects so well to inform you of her character and the actions she takes
OG!Cinderella has been indoctrinated into accepting her life as a maid to her step family since she was a small child. She is never seen going outside of the house besides the night at the ball. The only friends she had were random animals around her she couldn't even fully converse with. She had no other human perspective on her situation or how to get out of it. It makes sense why she's just taking her stepmother's tyranny while holding everything in because this isolation and neglect is all she knows. This is the entire limited scope of her world. A sad reality to many cases of abuse in real life.
And they just. Erased all of this for some. Reason???
Tumblr media
The night at the ball was a big deal because she literally NEVER gets to go out. This is the only time she interacts with the outside world aside from the ending. The impact of that was HUGE in the original movie. The new one just cheapened that imo by implying she goes out in town and talks to others regularly. This event was an impossible, fantastical dream come true to someone who is never treated as anything but a servant to everyone she knows.
Basically OG!Cinderella has it way worse which is what makes the ball such a huge deal in the first place.
Tumblr media
Third point I don't think I need to explain how Cinderella staying in her abusive home bc the house is "hers to love now that her parents are dead" is not a good character change and doesn't make sense. I would understand if her dad was alive and insisting on staying, but he is GONE. It is a building you grew up in sure, but that's all it is. Not something you sacrifice your wellbeing for. So that's a shit reason they didn't need to make up to say why this character is stuck in her abusive household. The isolation and years of gaslighting were enough. (Also showing how much of a frightening presence and manipulative villain Lady Tremaine is.)
And she sure left it quick after getting hitched lol
Tumblr media
The Fairy Godmother having the audacity to test Cinderella with that "oh I'm a poor old woman and I want some milk please" nonsense
Not very godmotherly of her in this version. 🥴 The Fairy Godmother appeared in the original to offer pure comfort to Cinderella in a time of desperate need, when this resilient and kind spirit finally reached her breaking point. The dress, slippers, pumpkin carriage, and magic were all given freely as a present to make her feel better at least for one night.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile this goofy ass Godmother has the audacity to be like "hey is she gonna be nice or not even though she's crying in tattered, recently destroyed clothing- I need to see that or else she doesn't get the magic juice". Like why did this become a way to test her morality all of a sudden? Why did you need something from her to give up the magic goods?? It's not even a good test she just walked a couple steps and poured some milk in a bowl,,,
Tumblr media
Idk man they made their relationship transactional for no reason which taints the original purpose of this scene imo. The original Fairy Godmother already KNEW Cinderella was kind without having to make sure by disguising herself as a rancid old lady. 😭 Weird and unnecessary addition.
Kinda nitpicky here but this film did not at all match the terror of the torn dress scene which really shows you how horrifying and humiliating it was to Cinderella
Comparison
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THE BIGGEST OFFENDER: THE WAY SHE "ESCAPED".
I NEED TO TAKE A BREATH
BECAUSE LIKE. WHAT WAS THAT.
Original Cinderella, seeing a real chance of escape from her abuse, uses everything in her possession to do so. She's yelling for the mice to get the key, to get Bruno to chase away the cat, running down to meet the prince's attendants to make sure they get the proof of her identity from her- and that moment she oh-so-casually pulled out the second slipper??? SEEING HER STEPMOTHER'S SLACKED JAW??? GAGGED US ALL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ICONIC
But 2015. Bitch. What is going on. She gets locked up and easily accepts her doom. She just twirls and sings in her prison like a dunce because cINDerELLa wAs aLReADy cONTenT wIth her sMaLL mOMEnts oF hAPPIneSs anD dREamS wItH thE pRinCE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just. Gives up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not the mice begging her to get up and save herself come on now
Tumblr media
The mice have to do their best on their own to push open her window so the prince and his crew hear her on time.
And yeah, all she had to do was open a window.
Tumblr media
WHAT. WHY. HOW. WAS THIS??? MORE EMPOWERING???
1950: use your brain to fight to the very end
2015: quit while you're still ahead, or don't try you just gotta dance and sing all pretty then someone will come along and save you
I'm sorry, but for a production that was so critical of the notion of "Cinderella just waited around for a prince to save her"...is that not literally what they changed the ending to?
You wanna talk about lack of agency in princess stories well here you go 😭
You know what's sad about all this in the end is this is still the best recent live action Disney remake imo LOL
Anyways hello if you've made it all the way down here I rest my case

If you hate hearing “everything happens for a reason”, that’s really valid. And I’m here to say that some things are fucked up and should never happen. You didn’t deserve it. It should have never happened to you.

george rexstrew deserves awards for many things but i have to say. edwin’s bloodcurdling scream as niko gets killed deserves a whole award unto itself. like. that scream did not feel at all like a tv show scream. to a somewhat jarring degree. and i can’t express how much I respect that

Minthara says “in Her name” when you first meet her and she’s following the Absolute but when you recruit her and she expresses that she no longer follows any god, but she still has an intact paladin oath, and she says “in your name” occasionally because she’s no longer Lolth’s paladin or the Absolute’s paladin, she’s your paladin
#😭#she might not think you’re a god or whatever but you’re the only one that ever came to save her#and if you let her read your mind you’re the only one she knows has no intention to hurt or use her#like I feel like what Minthara wants most of all is to not have to look over her shoulder or wait for the shoe to drop#like every relationship she’s had as a lolthsworn drow has come with the caveat that everyone will take her out if they have the chance#and if it benefits them even a little#lolth literally encourages this so long as you aren’t obvious about it#and lolth will 100% punish you the second she has an excuse to#and then the absolute like while she was being controlled probably felt more like genuine love than Minthara ever experienced#but it came with Orin and punishments for failing#and her being literallly mind controlled into her#so it’s still violent and threatening even if the extent of that is only realized after she’s pulled out of it#but then there’s you who pulled her out of that#who can clearly and plainly show her that you have no intention of hurting her even if it benefits you#and who went out of your way to rescue her when no one else she was devoted to ever would#and you offered her the means to not only stay safe from the absolute but to get revenge on it#of course it’s ‘in your name’ now you’re the only person that gave Minthara a reason for her to follow you#that wasn’t threats of violence and suffering#you literally gave her the opposite#she’s YOUR paladin it doesn’t matter if aren’t a god#you could be tho#Minthara#minthara baenre#bg3#baldur's gate 3

Every day i read a post where people write that “Bruce Wayne has an adoption problem” or that Danny is adoption bait on the first second of seeing him, not even knowing if he has a want of vengeance and a sad backstory and parallels to Bruce, and every day I want to softly cry in a corner.

Not to be that person, but if Kamala Harris were a white man with the exact same ideals, positions, and beliefs, it wouldn’t have even been a competition. Realising that the worst thing you can apparently be is a woman, is truly devastating.
