yknow what im not over? the fallout of pangi subz red + woogie and vi from the start of s4 going through seasons (rambling ->)

it felt like a background plot tbh as it was never openly addressed but after that mega day 1 team these guys were so distraught about the other

subz felt abandoned after red and pangi were so focused on getting 20 hearts for themselves it barely felt like a team as he got attacked

vi betrayed the whole team giving 8 of his hearts away to turn the tides of the end fight, than vocalizing his hurt to subz for how vicious red and pangi were with hurting everyone

subz betrayed pangi by helping pangis enemies countless of times and when pangi asked red to do something about it he brushed it off

subz gave pangi 3 egaps(?) during the end fight to not hurt the other during it as they were not on good terms but never addressed it

red asked subz why he's left them and subz explained he left him, how he was used to fight (when he was a pacifist btw) and how heart hungry they both were

red pushed past it and said if subz didn't fight he wouldn't be fulfilling his role as a teammate despite being a pacifist to which subz basically said is that all his worth is

subz keeps being on the opposing end of pangi, pangi keeps telling red to do something as his teammate but red is so paralyzed not wanting to hurt subz and being pangi's teammate

somewhere in here pangi takes subz on date, calls him a b*tch, subz dumps him, pangi runs after him playing the broken disk on the nether roof so they are on this weird floating line of hurt/silly

these two are still enemies throughout, pangi who's been trying to get zam back cause he killed his goat finds out zam got close to subz making pangi more distraught but can't do much as red wouldn't help him

there feud keeps going, if they hurt the other it kinda makes sense since they had a clanky team fallout/betrayal with lingering feelings

look at the way red is so wary of dragging subz into his plans in s6, making sure its his choice, even in s5 red almost dragged subz into the phantoms thing and subz had to put his foot down with only helping as a "teammate" to red

pangi getting targeted by red when given the chance and red never helping pangi left them on not so good terms

they've all got that "for themselves" mindset now and hurt in their hearts

the way people close to pangi distance themselves to not get him hurt but than subz murders pangi cause they have a past yknow and they can still talk it out cause its a them issue not anyone else's

theres many underlying meanings and biases that play out with these characters and it makes me so curious cause Ls peeps can't ever get over their past, its always some character growth with how the hatred is valid yet they still are comfortable enough to talk

Yes!! I absolutely understand what you’re saying and I agree pretty much. Like yes, it’s important to accept every nonhuman identity, and I don’t think the people who experience nonhumanity this way are necessarily “fakers” or “being nonhuman wrong” or are less serious about it than others, but also there seems to be an obvious difference between how these types of nonhumans experience the identity (as in more of a metaphorical, aesthetic, or symbolic way) vs how other nonhumans experience their identity. It also seems like these types of nonhumans make up a large portion of the community, so then you end up with this weird limbo where the therian community is both incredibly diverse and ridiculously homogeneous. Like, I remember making a post a few days ago about how there’s this sort of specific “dog therian aesthetic” that is super popular in the community, and it kindof leaves out the experiences of other people. It’s also interesting seeing this current clash in the community about how far away and distinct therians and other nonhumans are from being human in any way, and yet from what I’ve seen there is a lot more human influence on people’s identities than most of us realize.

Again, I don’t really want to say that nonhuman identities aren’t nonhuman if they’re created or influenced by emotions or if it’s identifying symbolically or metaphorically (even if the one identifying doesn’t realize it) because my dog theriotype very much still is/was influenced by emotions, specifically grief, but also… I still… researched? Like my dog theriotype is still one I was questioning before I experienced grief. I think one of the most confusing things about interacting with the therian community is going into it thinking that research of theriotypes and introspection was going to be a major focus for everyone over a year ago when I awakened and now im here and its… not really like that for a lot of people? And im not trying to be elitist about it and say like “oh you actually have to know 5 billion facts about your theriotype or you’re not valid, you have to know exactly which clade and genus your theriotype is from and if you cannot say their scientific name in perfect latin obviously that means you’re faking” because that would obviously be stupid but ALSO… if you’re supposedly a coyote therian, and all you’re basing it off is just “well I feel like this so I must be this”, how likely is it that you’re actually another small wild canine? Maybe you’re really a jackal, or a culpeo, or a short-eared dog, or a dingo, or a carolina dog, or some other canine no one’s ever heard of but because you didn’t care to research you’ll never know. How many therians have the wrong theriotype because of this?

I also feel like the community should be more accepting of temporary nonhuman identities… like, if you’re identifying as an animal because of emotions of feeling hurt, betrayed, angry, lonely, etc. and you heal from that, will the identity then disappear? We should at least be open to the possibility, because it’s not like identity is set in stone till the day we die. And there’s nothing wrong or bad or stupid with identifying as an animal because of these things, even if it’s seen as “out of the norm” for things like therianthropy. But like… I also understand what you mean by saying that these people don’t exactly understand what it means to be animal… so it makes me wonder, do we need a new term for this phenomenon, or would that be too much? Maybe just more encouragement to research and do actual self reflection?

LIKE… I WANT TO REITERATE THAT I GET IT. I really do get it. Sometimes I read things from a therian and I just shake my head like… is that really all you think it means to be an animal? And I’m so worried about talking about this in depth with most others in the community because I don’t want people to think I’m gatekeeping yknow?

I also think that some of the general negative ideas about humans and humanity that circulate in the community inadvertently discourage people from questioning their identity from time to time and realizing that they may be human or even partially human, or even discussion about partially human identities or metaphorical/symbolic identities like the ones described here. It’s another phenomenon that can be classified into what you described — following the masses and seeking community, even if that means misinterpreting a part of yourself. It’s like so many of us in the community are in a race to be “more nonhuman” than everyone else, and to denounce anything to do with humans and humanity even if that means denying a part of your nonhuman identity and how it intertwines with humanity. It’s not saying that we are all inherently human, but rather that it’s okay if your identity has ties to humanity or even if it’s fully human.

Conclusion i guess… I think there needs to be more focus on actually reflecting on your identity which is why I was drafting a post to “redefine” therianthropy to encourage this… as well as more awareness of therianthropy that is more than just psychological, spiritual, or physical. Like, overall I think it’s fine for people to metaphorically or symbolically be an animal and maybe having more awareness of this will help people understand and define their experiences more? Instead of all of us being lumped together when many of us experience therianthropy very differently? I don’t know… I really don’t know… I’m not sure it would be a good idea anyways because there’s already a lot of words that mean nearly the same things but just slightly different.. I feel like I see a coining post every week lol /lh .

I disagree. I think the timing of the Statue of Secrecy makes enough sense. I'm no English history nerd, I have a high school education - but that's probably close to the Authors knowledge of history, too. and of course the intended audience of British kids. Historical inaccuracies likely. I am going from what I remember and a few things I double checked. I'm tired.

Vague timeline of Bri'ish history (as I know it anyway):

England pre-1300s (also post 1300 but yknow) couldn't chill. Never at peace, always being colonized/doing the colonizing/medieval disputes/civil wars/whatever. Why has Scotland and Ireland kept so many of their myths and folklore, but England has jack shit? This is why.

Mid 1400's through 1500 - Tudor Era. Protestants vs Catholics was the hot topic headed largely by Henry (you know the one). Burning people and punishments for being 'The Wrong Religion'.

1530 - 1600: Elizabeth granted some more religious freedoms and the population BOOMED. By 1500 the population of England was 2.20 mil. By 1600 the population of England was 4.12 mil. DOUBLED. People Religious'd like they've never Religioned before. (hyperbole) No country-shaking wars against France, Denmark or whoever. Enjoying art and technology from the Renaissance - even common man can enjoy art, music and theater. Shakespeare is here. People were coming together in larger numbers than towns. London alone had 200,000 people by 1600.

Early 1600s - James became King. Religious + political unrest return. He was Protestant and Catholics tried to kill him for it. His son, Charles, said 'Parliament? Nah I wanna be mega ruler' and it caused a Civil War which ended in his execution. The Puritans took over in 1649 - the 'Interregnum'. No King. All that art, theater, music and merriment? Not allowed. Christmas and Easter? Banned.

1660 - Charles' son, Charles II, was made King. The monarchy returns - because not much could be worse than Puritans. 'the dour days of Cromwell and the Commonwealth were swept away with festivities and mirth.' Thanks www.rmg.co.uk

1685 Charles II's brother, James II, took over. He was Big Catholic and people worried he'd make England Big Catholic again. (like the last James, but opposite) So his daughter Mary, a Protestant, and her husband William came over from the Netherlands and waited for James II to run away - stepping in as King and Queen. The Glorious Revolution. They lessened their own power by signing the English Bill of Rights in 1689. Yippeee! You can read the 1689 Bill of Rights here! :) In the Wizarding World: 1689 is also when Wizards asked the Monarchs to give Magical people legal protections (likely within the Bill of Rights itself) and were denied - so... the Statute of Secrecy.

In the early 1700s England and Scotland merged into a big happy Great Britain family. The 1700's continued into the Industrial Revolution, massive international travel, colonialism... Yippeee? While England's population only grew to 5.20 mil by 1700, London grew to 600,000. City growth was drastic in the 1600s.

England's population by 1800 was 8.62 mil; London 1 mil. England's population by 1900 was 30.25 m; London 6 mil. England population and London Population source, by the way.

Why do I think the Statute makes enough sense?

The 1500's were a period of growth, significant freedoms and peace within England after a long history of constant fighting. People started to come together and grow. Not just little areas where their local Lords make all the farmers go to battle - Cities. They had the population, trade and peace to support such things.

What were the Wizards doing before this time…? The Wizarding population would have been so TINY, a fraction of the total population - only <2.20 mil, compared to 1990's 47.70mil - and typically spread out within Muggle-majority places. I mean where ISN'T a Muggle-majority place in England, even by the 1990s…? Hogwarts and Hogsmeade? A school and its supporting town?

Maybe Magical folk weren't often successfully killed - but they were constantly under pressure and oppressed into hiding:

We don't know when the Friar died, but he was killed for 'Actually Helping Heal People' and being Fun. (the church is against both.) He lived a Muggle life - and 'messed up' too much.

Sir Nicolas was knighted into Henry VII's court - then executed for messing up a harmless spell. They took his wand, didn't let him reverse the spell - and no other magical person could/would come to his aid. They didn't even give him a proper execution - a blunt axe, 45 hits before death. He was alive for 44 hits... He lived a mostly Muggle life - and messed up.

In fictional stories like Babbity Rabbity -a foolish King sends out a Witch-Hunting Brigade and an old Witch living in a hovel (despite her job of keeping the palace linens clean and white) is a trickster hero, who helps a silly Muggle trick the King to save his life.

In the Hopping Pot, we have a Wizard who helps Muggles and is beloved - yet still lives in secrecy. He claims it is his 'cooking pot' that is magical, not him. The story is about the enchanted cauldron teaching his muggle-hating son to not be an ass. Dumbledore says in his notes that this story attracted anger for it's pro-muggle themes and an alternate version was made where the Hopping Pot protected the Wizards from violent Muggles.

I'd say the fictional stories reflect a realistic view of Wizarding life: Even when they were known for their magic, even when they were liked they still needed to hide for their own safety and peace.

The population of England doubled during the 1500s, in a period of peace. That likely means double the Magical people, too. Slowly heating up in the early 1600s - the mid-1600s were shit. Civil war and the Puritans take over... UGH.

Population growth slowed significantly, but cities grew larger - where magical people have to be sneakier to hide from persecution. More secret roads, pathways, hidden stores and modes of travel. Magical Infrastructure. Something they likely didn't have much of, living in Muggle hamlets - aside from Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

1660 the monarchy is back - but disasters like plague and fire hit London. I am sure most Magical infrastructure was okay - but that's another reason to separate yourself into your hidden corners, away from the 600,000 Muggles living alongside you. Too many to help, impress or reason with. You can't heal all their plague and you can't put out all their fire... and even if you could - they'd try to kill you.

1685 - William and Mary bring in another peaceful period. A Statue of Secrecy is drafted - there's finally enough manpower to do something about their safety as a group. The Wizarding population has not only doubled but is more unified than ever before: larger cities Wizards can only possibly live in by making secret networks and locations to hide from persecution.

The Wizards approach William and Mary, and ask for sanctuary. They ask for laws specifically to protect them from persecution. They are refused. So by 1692 the Statue is passed - possibly pushed a little by the Salem Witch Trials starting in America, 1692 - 1693.

In the 1700s the population nearly doubled again - and with the industrial revolution (late 1700's through the 1800s) the population nearly QUADRUPLES by 1900. London, a single city, gets a population of 6 mil - ten times more than when Wizards last walked 'openly' amongst Muggles.

So basically:

Before 1600: not enough population or infrastructure. Towns of small clusters of people with a Wizard or two - who were lucky if they were considered a 'helpful eccentric' by neighbors. Hogwarts having 'houses' was probably quite helpful: sorting the few magical people by core values meant you would make connections with like-minded others when meeting magical people was rare and unsafe.

In the late 1600s: a larger population, cities where many people could gather, a small period of peace after severe oppression, the Monarchy signing off on protections and rights for people...

It's the PERFECT time for Wizards to come together and say 'Please protect us. The time of savagery against us is over - like the time for savagery against those of different religious faith is over.'

The Statute being based in England - yet is internationally applied, breaking up long histories of peaceful cohabitation in other countries:

'All the knowledge you have right now is stinky and heathen - we are going to 'educate' you on whats important (poorly) so you can work. Let go of this Mystical Magical nonsense, like "how to make medicine of the local flora" and "how to safely share the land with your native creatures" and instead become ~Enlightened~ by our modern industrial era! Where we will pay you in addictive substances and Christianity while we steal your land! We will go so far as to take your children away and raise them in nice white British families to get rid of all that yucky inferior 'culture' stuff you've got.'

I'm not sure why the idea of the Statue starting in the Great British Empire then spreading everywhere else is that odd...?

The Muggle Brits were already separating 'old from the new' with a trail of blood and suffering - British Wizards scrambling to 'save' foreign Magicals from British Muggles by colonizing their magical culture, insisting they protect themselves via British/American laws seems like an on-brand and unsurprising concept. It's just more Colonialism. 'Shocked by the might of the MASSIVE British Muggle population and technology? Leave your Muggle family and be like us! Don't worry - we will come enforce it. By force. For YOUR sake. :^)'

...That's what I think, anyway.

Tangent: Why are there Centaur in Scotland?

I'd assume, if they aren't simply native to all of western Europe from when England was still attached to mainland, then it'd surely be when the Romans colonized and ruled Britain in 40AD or whatever. How long did they have Britain for? 300 years? I think that's enough time for some Centaur to go over as scholars or soldiers.

I think the most baffling thing about the Tulpar as a vessel to me is the fact that the ship really did only have a one way communication system.

I know it was cheap but even the most basic of vessels regarding major transport would have some way, shape or form for outside communication. Not only that but there was absolutely no form of innate emergency signal to show they may have been offline or in trouble despite clearly having a system to dock credits if they went off course. It's another factor that really shows that bad situations are made to get worse by design. One person who is required to relay all information to the crew and make all the choices without feedback. No way to update or call for help in case of a dire situation. No way to inform of inner personal conflicts and acquire procedures accordingly.

It really is like they are all in some sort of fucked up solitary confinement. They have their own world with strict roles that are meaningless in the end, as long as the cargo makes it, it doesn't matter what happens on that ship to the company. They don't want to hear anything and will come to conclusions on what happened based on how much pay they can withhold from the workers. Even what they do send is short, sterile and corporate to the extent it was likely written and sent out with a command by some random unmanned computer in an office.

There's something to be said about how unfair it is to force absolute power and control onto one person when you as an entity could do so much more to offload it but I've said it many times before so I won't again.

I don't know how I'd ever convey this in art but. Thinking very deeply about how in boy king au, a very crucial part of characterization is that Seb is a wolf in sheep(or lamb more specifically)'s clothing and Fernando is a sheep in wolf's clothing.

Seb is very unassuming, very delicate, seemingly very vulnerable and malleable. But, deep down, he can be very ruthless. It's in the the way he hesitantly declares war, with a spark in his eye and a suppressed smirk. In the way he challenges someone to a card game or a horse race, proclaiming that he's not great, but winning every round and prancing around the room and mentioning it ad infinitum. The way he's able to instantly turn the tide in a debate in one fell swoop. By showing all his cards constantly and letting himself be vulnerable, he's making himself invulnerable. No one would ever consider him to be able to make big moves, so he wins every single time, because no one even thinks to expect it from him.

Fernando on the other hand, is constantly committed to having a looming presence and harsh reputation, but deep down, he's soft. He knows what happens to people when they're vulnerable, and he's not going to let himself be taken advantage of. The way he keeps a brave face when being informed of the marriage proposal, but goes back to his room and cries. The way he proclaims that he was always going to be the rightful ruler of Spain, but confides to Flavio that he never thought there was any real chance of it ever happening. The way he takes himself so seriously in public, but inside feels so giddy whenever he can make someone laugh. Everything to him always feels unstable and ready to crumble at any moment, and he's not willing to contribute to that by letting himself relax.

I think thats why it's very difficult for them to get along at first, because they have completely different approaches to how they carry themselves and make their way through life. Seb is confused at Fernando because he feels that he's very bland and overly serious at first, but truthfully he's not really seeing the actual Fernando. And Fernando finds Seb to be naive and easily taken advantage of, but that's because he's never seen Seb at his most cruel. Seb really loves when he eventually gets to see Fernando being vulnerable, and Fernando really admires and respects Seb when he sees him being serious. I think it just takes a while for them to show the other their full and complete selves, even the parts they can sometimes be ashamed of. There's this very compelling dichotomy in Seb laying out all his cards, but still being very difficult to read, and Fernando keeping his cards to his chest, but his intentions often being easily seen through.
