I think Floyd would do it with other people too, especially considering how he seems to be the one to most often turn into his merman form out of the trio; both out of his own desire and because he forgets to take the potion sometimes. Be it Idia, Epel, Jamil, Vil, any other person – all of them could get slapped with an eel dick at some point…

And of course, Jade would absolutely do it too! At lease I want to believe that even though he seems more proper than Floyd, he is just as eager to turn into his true form and mate with his partner in the way most natural to him. But not only because it’s more natural to him, but also because he knows that his potential partner will definitely react in a very amusing way… like a cute little prey!

I love the idea of the Octa-trio boys using a potion to use on their partners, partially because I really want to see everyone’s merman design 😭 Idia squiiiid come oooooon, and Goldfishie, and Betta, and Guppy, all of them would look gorgeous. But also I feel like this is something that they could absolutely do, and we’ve mentioned it a couple of times, mostly in our FloRid replies I think.

But it’s like a bonus to them. The main thing that they need is to make sure their partner doesn’t drown/can breathe underwater (although depending on a scenario this one is also optional lol), but every once in a while… every once in a while they start eyeing the person thinking that they would be very hot with certain fish parts down there to make the mating super enjoyable. And ALSO! Another reason why they (and ESPECIALLY Jade) might want to use a potion on their lovers: it makes them so shocked and overwhelmed with all kinds of new feelings and sensations! So helpless underwater, so oblivious and so restless!

Yeah, at least this is how I see it hehe.

So imagine Idia gaming in his room only for him to shriek in surprise when Jade suddenly pops up out of nowhere, scaring him almost to death, and when questions, he admits Ortho letting him in, Anyway, without knowing what to do, Idia offers him to game with him, and to his surprise, Jade agrees, and so they both started gaming together (Jade being typically normie sucks at gaming or heck he purposely plays bad to piss Idia off lol). I like to imagine they're Mario Kart, and yes, you guessed it right, Jade is playing as Toad (Get it cuz Toad is a mushroom? hehe).

Wholesome moments like these are VERY rare with the Tweels, but it happens, and Idia is reminded of the time; He and Jade bonded in Harveston, and he starts to feel butterflies in his stomach only for Jade to ruin the moment by opening his mouth saying the most horrific stuff, loudly telling idia how cute this mushroom  videogame character is (aka toad) and how he would love to observe him more clearly and even dissect him with that creepy smile of his. Idia is absolutely frightened and immediately regretted offering to play games with him. Anyway they fucked after this lol.

Can you imagine Jade whispering sultry into Idia’s ear while holding him tight, saying he wants to continue playing games with him, but what "games" he's referring to is a mysterious :) Strangely enough idia not wanting to admit it but deep down he's definitely aroused.

Also, the idea of Jade buying Toad related Merch and stuff cuz Toad is now his favourite character after playing Mario Kart with idia is hilarious to me cuz you know how he feels about mushrooms and Toad being a mushroom and all. (I even saw Fanart from Japanese artists drawing Jade and Toad together, haha). Imagine Floyd coming back to their room after a stressful day at the mostro lounge only to see Jade's side of the room filled with Toad plushies and Merch hahaha as if he didn't hate mushrooms already. (Don’t let him find out about Toadette).

Or maybe the perfect game for Jade to fill up his God complex is the Sims 4, lol. That way, he can control the characters as much as he likes even though Jade is not into gaming.

This is such a fun scenario, of course Ortho would let Jade in, he is all for niisan hanging out with his friends at his room 😭 And of course Jade would choose Toad as a character. I love it when people draw him with all kinds of mushroom-themed characters. And also how you (well, Idia in this scenario) could start thinking that maybe even Jade is capable of not being cursed for an hour or so, only to realise that it was stupid of him to assume that… But oh well, at least this whole thing ended wonderfully (with sex)!

This man really plays with Idia’s mind in the most satisfying way possible. Play your “games”, boys…

Also, I really want to see Jade play the Sims! He is good at making terrariums, right? He’ll probably build the most perfect unsuspicious-looking home with some kind of a torture trap, like the pool trick but somehow much worse. And he’ll figure out how to do it surprisingly fast…

The morning after Sebastian does that passive aggressive condescending smile and while cleaning off all the...slobber. His ungloved hands are possessively stroking Ciel's cheek and under *that* eye. He slowly tilts Ciel's head back against the tub so Seb can look at him from above. (To remind him of who's really in charge here. Sebastian may let Ciel call the shots but he's the one with the true power.) "Bo-chan, letting such filth touch you. Tsk tsk" (Like Sebastian hasn't marked him for life, is no longer planning on eating his soul and makes him a demon later🙄). After dark, he educates Ciel on how it's done properly, since he clearly needs another lesson and he wouldn't be one hell of a butler if he didn't teach his young mater properly.

*Ahem* anyway....you two are wonderful and I hope your day is going well. You have given me so many cursed thoughts to daydream about.

Oh poor Sebastian, of course he would hate being treated that way lol Ciel knows just the right way to annoy the hell out of him, even though in the end it’s Sebastian who gets to have the last laugh… or is he? He had to clean Ciel after whatever Finny did to him, so… I guess Finny is the true winner of this whole situation either way lol

We don’t really read fanfics, so no, we don’t know this one. And while we are aware of Yu-Gi-Oh, we haven’t really watched it either :( But thank you for your recommendations nonetheless.

I don’t know, while the things you’ve mentioned weren’t really changed, just like you said (and to be completely fair, Vil’s complain at least was accurate to what he said), and while I don’t want to claim that the localisers hate the source material (I don’t think it’s the case at all), in stuff that I’ve seen they seem to be… disconnected from/indifferent to it somehow? Sometimes. This + the way they phrase some things to keep things vague, or add unnecessary descriptions…

Then again, we haven’t watched anything with the EN translation in more than a year, so I can’t say for certain. It absolutely could’ve been worse, but it also could’ve been much much better in my opinion!

but other than the AAAAGGGOOONNNYYY my precious lukey pookie is going through, HOOHH subby bratty marius, and the MARILUKE CRUMBS OF THE HOSPITAL VISIT...

gah i'm so obsessed with marius in this chapter. like, i don't know if it's said enough that, marius is actually very smart. like REALLY SMART. the way he's always two steps ahead, yet people think he's some naive dumb rich brat, but he lets them believe so. it plays to his advantage. AND GOD the last scene with him perched on the edge of the building watching the sun set is SO BEAUTIFUL AND POETIC. SIR YOU AND YOUR "how could a place so rotten, be so beautiful" talk. and i find that so endearing in him. he knows already, how corrupted the world is. the world of the rich and powerful is no different than those of the poor and struggling, even in it's shiny sparkling benevolence. yet he still holds so much hope despite all that.

but more than i'm kinda obsessed with the relationship between letha and gerard. what if you were just a girl HOUSING AN EMO RUNAWAY BOY IN YOUR BASEMENT... how letha was writing and hanging notes on the pagoda tree and how gerard was the recipient of all the thoughts of a highschool girl. but it breaks my heart a bit how even in all of that that this was their semblance of "normal" if that makes sense. BUT it only makes me question letha's motives more tbh, cause why is she taking in all those people? what for? is it really just out of kindness? to feel like she has a family? WHERE DID SHE GET ALL THE BUDGET TO SUSTAIN ALL OF THEM ANYWAYS, INHERITANCE????????

marius was SUCH a star in this chapter. he was so cunning and calculating, yet that last scene was really so poignant, the moment felt so precious and delicate even if the circumstances around everything feel so dire

LETHA AND GERARD YESSSS, it made me really emo when it was revealed he was living in her home ;-; but fr yeah letha was running an entire CHARITY in that house by that point KJBLSBFLS

roman was such an interesting and kinda heartbreaking villain to me. he kinda showed up late enough in the story that i too wondered why he didnt enter the scene earlier, but i was really hit in the feels during the flashbacks of his life with remus. how remus had absolutely done terrible things, while also absolutely trying to love and care for his brother. oaugh. sibling stories always get to me, i fear….

Chapter 28: Lovers Quarrel

Chika PoV

We pulled back from each other, but I could still feel our lips together. Reyna starts walking away from me while I look on from the steps of Rhea’s mansion. Suddenly a brilliant idea comes into my head, Reyna could still be with me.

“Wait don’t go just yet, maybe you could stay here and be with me,” I shouted and Reyna turned towards me and looked shocked.

“I know what you are thinking, but I can’t leave Rome. How come you just blindly agree with Rhea’s proposal?” Reyna questions with a loud voice and she just shoots a furrowed brow.   

“Didn’t you also agree with Rhea’s suggestion as well? You even admit that it was smart for me to stay here. I thought that you didn’t have a problem.” I said with my voice going louder, Is Reyna blaming me for this situation? I wanted to go with New Rome so badly, but unfortunately, I’m sharing a body with a human-hating genocidal goddess. 

“You’re right I did agree it was smart of you to stay with the Titan queen. But a part of me wanted you to be defiant and said no. I know this is just a messed up situation and there is nothing we can do about it, but I feel like we were manipulated to agree with that goddess. Part of me right now just wants to carry you to New Rome myself and say damn them all.” Reyna shouted and she walked toward me. I got close to her and our bodies were only inches away from each other.

I wanted her to take me to New Rome or wherever because now I felt this intense air around us and our bodies shaking in anticipation. I can see a bit of sweat coming down on Reyna’s forehead and even on mine.

“That’s just it, It’s always about New Rome. It’s like your whole life revolves around it?” I shouted back at her with the same intensity.

“ You’re right Chika, my life does revolve around New Rome. I never had a stable home and family, you are one of the lucky ones to have that. New Rome gives me a home and a future to look forward to, my people need me because I’m their Praetor.” I stare right back at her, it’s like she is stuck on that brainwashing. I don’t even know what to say to her, I want her to be selfish at the moment, she is sacrificing her happiness for that place. Maybe I am being selfish as well, but I didn’t care at the time. I move my forehead towards her and I just close my eyes.

“I should probably leave before we say something we will regret towards. This is goodbye for now.” I felt Reyna move her forehead away from me and just walk away to join my parents, My mother transported them away from Spiti. I felt tears coming from my eyes and I quickly wiped them away. A girl suddenly appeared next to me and it was Evangeline, my cousin's girlfriend. She’s wearing skinny jeans and a brown sweater, while her hair is worn down in blonde waves.

“So relationship trouble?” She asked in concern and I just nodded, and she just gestured to follow her. We went to a 1 story house with a mix of white and blue paint. As we got inside, we were greeted by Hyun, Isabelle, Camira, and Itri sitting on a cream-colored couch with the Super Smash Bros in the background on the Nintendo Switch. 

“So do you want to join us?” Camira asked and I just nodded yes. I picked Mario as my character and I just played the game, without thinking about the situation with Reyna.  So far I think I’m doing good at the game and I managed to knock down Camira, who was playing Link. Suddenly my character, Mario, got knocked out by Isabelle's character, Pit. I just quietly watch the other girls play the video game.

“I can tell you were pretty out of it already, something troubling you,” Camira says in a thick Irish accent as she puts her hands around my shoulder.

“It’s just relationship problems, we will have to be apart because of certain circumstances,” I say in a low, quiet tone.

“Hey it will work out eventually, you just need a break from all that drama and have fun.” Camira got out a bottle of alcohol and she gave me a small cup. I look on in uncertainty.

“Look just have 1 small cup and that’s all we’re getting. I did have to sneak it away from the adults. Maybe this will get you to relax.” Camira pulled the small cup with alcohol and she handed it to me. I look at the brown beverage and I just drink it without thinking. Suddenly my head was all over the place and I felt like puking.

“No offense Camira, but that drink is horrible and I will not drink it again.” my face went all red and my body is shaking all over the place.

“Fair enough, but hey at least you have a new experience. Anyway, wanna play truth or dare?” The other girls heard what Camira asked and they turned off the TV and eagerly sat on the floor with Camira and me.

“Oh, I love this game,” Itri says childishly  while she plays with a toy skull.

“Ok Chika, truth or dare?” Itri asks as she stares at me with her black makeup on. She wears black leggings and a black T-shirt with a crescent moon on it. She has dark brown skin and she tied her hair up with dreads.

“Truth” I answered and Itri looked mildly disappointed.

“Is it true that you do karate?” Itri asks in curiosity and every girl besides Isabelle stares at me with surprise.

“Yes, I did do Karate before I jumped into the demigod world and I’m assuming that Isabelle told you about it.” I answered truthfully.

“That’s awesome maybe you could show us some moves,” Evangeline says while the others just shoot a small smile.

“I thought cheerleader would be a good nickname, but karate girl is better.”Hyun chuckles while she just drinks more alcohol.

“Alright Hyuunn Truth or Dareeee?” I say as I feel my words slurring. The alcohol is taking effect now and I can now understand why characters always have slurred speech when they drink alcohol. Thank god I don’t have to drink it anymore. 

“Dare karate girl, I hope you come up with a good one since you are drunk,” Hyun says confidently. I have a funny dare in mind and just laughing like crazy. The other girls look on in concern.

“I darreed you Hyun to pie yourself in the face,” I say chucking and I lay down on the ground laughing.

“That's it, weak!!!!” Hyun shouted unimpressed with the dare created a pie out of nowhere and she just put the pie on her face with a bored expression. I laugh madly about it, Hyun looks funny with cream coming out of her face and tears coming out of my face. I’m having fun now, these girls are so cool.

“Oh right Ice Queen you’re turn, truth or dare?” Hyun says with a mischievous smirk as she turns to Isabelle. Isabelle, please pick truth, Hyun will make you do something so humiliating. 

“I picked dare, I’m not scared of you,” Isabelle says confidently. No Isabelle why you picked that? Hyun just laughed evilly.

“Alright princess, I dared you to dress like a little girl and wear diapers along with it for the whole night.” Hyun. Isabelle's face went all white and she looked on nervously.

“I hate you, I will get payback for this,” Isabelle says coldly and Hyun just sticks her tongue.

“Don’t worry my queen, I will avenge you,” Camira shouted as Hyun changed Isabelle's clothes to a snow white inspire costume that reached Isabelle's midthigh with a yellow bottom and a blue top with a yellow line and a puffy sleeve. The diaper appears underneath the skirt and fits snuggly around Isabelle's waist and a red bow attaches to Isabelle’s hair.

“You looked adorable” Hyun laughs like crazy and everybody else tries not to laugh.

“It’s whatever guys, you can laugh. It’s just a game and I didn’t have to flirt with an adult. But please don’t take a picture of this.” Isabelle looks shyly towards the other girls and Hyun looks on sheepishly.

“Hey Isabelle thanks for taking this lightly, trust me I’m not going to take pictures. I will do an extra dare for you.” Hyun says earnestly while Isabelle looks on to Hyun with no expression on her face. I was about to say something but suddenly I felt my stomach growling and I covered my stomach. My stomach is a bubbling volcano ready to erupt at this point and suddenly I start throwing up on the floor. The other girls looked in concern and I felt my body light. My eyes were suddenly about to close and my body just went down, but I felt somebody carrying and I’m losing consciousness.”

At  Night (3 Hours Ago)

Suddenly I woke in a bed with my mother, the goddess Demeter, holding a cup with what looked like milk. My mother is in her green pajama pants with a dark green t-shirt, and her hair is worn down. I suddenly took the cup away from my mother and drank the warm milk. I feel so much better and the head is all clear and relaxed. 

“So it was your first time drinking, you probably shouldn't do that again.” Mother warmly smiles and I just sobbed close to her chest. I let out all the pent-up emotions and just cried on my mother's chest and she just held me closely. I felt so safe in her embrace.

“What has been troubling you, my child?’ Mother asked in a soothing voice and she stroked my short hair.

“I just go-t in-to a f-i---gh--t with R--ey--na and I’m worr---ied if s--he ha--tes me?”  I sobbed between the words while my mother just gently stroked my shoulders.

“Relationships will always have arguments and conflicts, what’s important is that you girls won’t give up on each other during said times. You girls were probably very stressed out with this situation, and just needed a small break from each other. I’m sorry that my grandmother put you girls in this spot.” Mother says apologetically.

“I hope you are right Mother, I hope it’s just us being stressed about this. Hey Mother, do you mind staying with me for the night?” I asked and she did a tender smile and kissed my forehead.

“Anything for you my love” Mother says in a soft voice and I just dozed off in the night.

Who likes feeding the other food? Like full on spoon in their mouth or peeling an orange and feeding them the slices stuff.

Also, what are the sleeping arrangements like? Big spoon/little spoon, who steals the blankets or moves around a lot etc.!

mari, hello there ! thank you for stopping by, hope you are doing well :3 now here are the answers to your questions !

— this man has been eating junk and fast food probably everyday so i will be the one feeding him, because he needs to taste something else than burgers, fries and bubble tea. and i ask myself how is he so fit just by eating this type of food. but i too can eat junk all day because i have fast metabolism. so when we are on restaurant dates i will order for both of us, he doesn't stand a chance or doesn't have a choice. when i feed him salad and he actually likes it, i promise that if he finishes it all, i'll treat him to a burger. but honestly, he should eat healthier in general. like when we’re at a pastry shop and i feed him cake—he looks like a big baby just living his best life, but he spoils me too. two pieces of my favorite cake with a banana shake, and of course, i feed him a spoonful. he needs to experience sweetness too, not just salty foods. but of course i wont force him to eat or do anything he doesnt want, im just looking after him and yes, yes he will have his fast food, i wouldn't dare take the thing he likes away from him.

im not a big fan of fruits, so i always hear my mom's nagging about eating more of them. then, out of nowhere, while im casually playing valorant, he surprises me with a plate full of apple slices, and i tear up a little because he’s genuinely so thoughtful (my mom probably forced him to do it because she knows he is my weakness)

"thank yo— HOW DID I DIE?" and then he shoved an apple slice in my mouth as i munch and turn my focus on the game again, "feed me more i need power up, i will destroy them." then i make 3 kills and call it a day.

— he wants to feel me close, so more likely would be the big spoon, wrapping his arms around me to maintain that closeness. while me, who is used to holding a plushie, would be the little spoon, nestled against him. once im fully asleep im not moving at all, just on the other side, and the blanket is still there. i always wake up without my cooky plushie. its chika who is on my arms — so in conclusion he is the big spoon before falling asleep, and in the morning im the big spoon as he tend to cuddle more into me. its so nice though, to see him this calm, to feel his breath on my shoulder...he looks like a small sleeping kitten. just the cutest sleeping kitten. also i always sleep on the inside of the bed if it is against a wall so he can protect me from the monsters at night. if he ever snores guess where he will go? on the couch, where else ! i can't fall asleep if there's even the tiniest noise or light, it has to be dead silence and dark like some black hole.

at the times when we are away or just can't do a sleepover, i just hug my cooky plushie that i sprayed with his perfume because it calms me down so incredibly fast and guess what he does? starts using the oversized shirt i wore as a pajama and it became his pajama ! how cute !! i once caught him while coming over to his place and the way i melted...he then didn't speak or give me any attention for two hours. lesson learned dont tease chika too much ♡

I also just love drawing Suguru bc he hansomeee hehehe But here's my own spin bc u know me by now anon :3 His reasoning for finally peeking at the human world is likely that the barriers are thinning and digimon are starting to spill into the human world, and Yggdrasil wants to experience and see humanity before making any decisions. He feels right now is the safest time, as humans are beginning to learn and see something new and unknown, but it's happening at a slow, calm rate so there aren't any major catastrophes yet. Definitely just disguises himself as a guy. I like the idea of Yggdrasil genuinely falling for Sayuri and genuinely loving his family- I actually really like the idea that he didn't necessarily plan to have kids, so he was lowkey using his god powers to stop that (and he told Sayuri something abt him just not likely being able to do that) He just wants to explore this human world and humanity; despite all the cruelities that do happen, he enjoys her perspective, and finds himself warmed by her genuine optimism- but is grateful for her realism as well, because life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Despite that, she has strength to keep moving forward, keep being kind, and keep smiling. He feels... apathetic towards the rest of humanity, but Sayuri's outlook definitely helps tame any disgust or hatred he has. I feel he also genuinely likes and respects DATS- or at least the members who show genuine interest AND respect. I think around now he has a little hope in the humans that are good; that they can outweigh the bad. That's probably why he begins assisting the humans with digital partners. Yes, he could just reveal himself or do more; but the mission is to see what they do with what they're given. Can they really be compatible? Can they really be friends? He can't force such bonds, so he wants to see if humanity will take his gifts and use it well. (He is a little biased, treating his digimon with more favor.) By the time he has Masaru- I think at first he kinda expected to view Masaru as just another creation. to feel towards him what he does towards Digimon. But his affection for Masaru (and later Chika) exceeds that, because they were children born of love between him and another.

He loves his family, genuinely, but he is also the god of the digital world, and as things worsen, I think he has to make decisions. That's still his world that he reigns over. I think before he leaves during that goal to find Ikuto, he finally tells Sayuri the truth. It's... a lot for her to swallow, and I think they leave on awkward terms- it's the kind of thing where she wants to talk to him, have questions answered, etc etc,. but she needed time to process first, and he left before she finished. She keeps it from Masaru and Chika- unsure how they'll take it. I think she gets a little mixed feelings when Masaru befriends Agumon. Yggdrasil definitely pays attention once Masaru starts poking into the Digital World- curious how his son feels and views everything. At the end, he is largely proud of him (wishes he'd be less hot-headed, though.) Yggdrasil maintains his human form, but he does reveal the truth to his Royal Knights, Bancholeomon, and some other ruling digimon, like Mercurimon. Kurata's actions definitely soil Yggdrasil's views on humanity- in his rage and anguish over the loss of so many, he forgets the other humans he met beyond his own family. Even as he watches Masaru work with Touma, Yoshino and Ikuto- who share his perspective, he has a hard time caring for them. In the end the only reaosn he still loves Masaru is because of his familial and fatherly bias. Of coruse Masaru and Chika are good- they are of him and Sayuri. As things worsen, he genuinely starts to plan on a way to cut off conntact with the human world- but he's determined now to bring his family to him. He doesn't want the humans hurting his digimon any further, but he does not want to put Sayuri or his children at risk. Does not help matters when Touma, Masaru's human best friend, betrays them. By the time Masaru and him come face to face, he admits the truth of who he is- and while the others get away, he doesn't let them take Masaru. He tells Masaru his goal to destroy the human world, as it's the only way to save the digital world- and despite Yggdrasil trying to pacify him with the promise of being able to live in the digital world with his family, Masaru is too angry and afraid (dude's 14 and has been loaded w/ a lot recently okay) Yggdrasil just keeps him locked up for his own safety. A big thing is that Yggdrasil IS a computer god thing and IS supposed to be logical, but he let himself feel and have emotions and have a love and have family; it changed how he thinks, operates, etc etc Now he's more likely to feeel rage, anguish, etc., when before he might've kept a calmer head, and instead looked at everything with a colder, but logical, apathy. Now only does he have his family he genuinely loves, but being with Sayuri and learning about his heart, it did make him more affectionate and more protective of his own world. Dunno how this would end yet; I do wanna say it'd probably have a bittersweet ending where Masaru does go to the digital world, where he stays with Agumon (and Yggdrasil) while Chika and Sayuri prefer the human world and remain there.

Chika smiled. “Alright, Ryo-chan. Did you have a question about your character?”

“Indeed. I am curious as to Gwyndolyn’s motivation.”

The main roles of Putting on Hairs had been assigned and now the actors had gathered with the playwright and the director to go over some preliminary things before lines would be practiced and rehearsals started.

“She hates werewolves.” Chika explained.

“Yes, I saw that.” Ryo nodded. “However, there must be a reason for such burning hatred, and for her to take such extreme actions as she does. And I must know these motivations for me to truly understand the character and become her on stage.”

“Uhm…” Chika pursed her lips.

“If I may make a suggestion?” Shizuku spoke up.

“Mm?”

“Gwyndolyn’s name comes from Gwyn ap Nudd, I am correct?”

Chika grinned. “I’m happy someone caught that. I had a lot of fun looking up things for this play.”

“Then you know the name is of Welsh origin.”

“Yup! And associated with the Wild Hunt. And that’s why I made her a Hunter.”

Shizuku nodded. “Then perhaps her motivation could be <hiraeth>?”

“Hee-rye-th?” Chika sounded out the unfamiliar word.

“Oh!” Setsuna suddenly perked up. “A deep sense of longing or yearning for that which has passed. Gwendoln longs for a time when werewolves did not plague her lands!”

“Yes, that was what I had in mind.” Shizuku confirmed. “Perhaps someone she knows or loved was harmed by a werewolf. Or she perceives an imbalance in nature by their existence.”

“Or perhaps she regrets being turned…” Ryo murmured.

“That wasn’t exactly what I was going for…” Shizuku admitted.

Nico bit her tongue, unsure of what to make of her fellow werewolf’s statement.

“Please do not misunderstand me, Shizuku-san.” Ryo bowed slightly. “I am grateful for your observation and believe I have a better understanding of the character I am to play.”

“Right.” Chika spoke up. “I’m gonna add this heerythe thing to the script. Uhm… how do you spell it?”

“Shizuku seemed to have a better understanding of that hearee thing than she let on.” Kasumi observed as she and her girlfriend made their way home.

“Mm…” Shizuku responded neutrally.

Of course Kasumi would be the one to notice. The little gremlin could be clueless about many things, but she often lived up to her proclamation of knowing everything about Shizuku. It was an endearing trait Shizuku loved about her girlfriend, even if it meant situations like this.

“<Hirgaeth.>” Shizuku repeated the term. “My guardians taught me the idea years ago to help me work through my own feelings of longing, loss and grief. I cannot return to the life I once had. The world cannot return to the way it once was. But I can move forward in the world I am in now.”

“And you can resolve your regret and pass on…”

“Well, I cannot exactly die of old age anymore.” The ghost said, perhaps a bit too cheerfully, considering the topic. “But I did promise my Kasumi-chan that I would not pass on without her.” She slipped an arm through her girlfriend’s. “For she is one of my main reasons to stay here.”

“One of?” Kasumi furrowed her brow. “Not the main reason?”

Shizuku smiled. Kasumi pouted. Shizuku laughed.

“Of course Kasumi-chan is the main reason.” Shizuku decided to stop teasing.

“Hmph. Keep that up and Kasumin won’t be making her super special dinner for Shizuko tonight.”

“That’s alright, I don’t need to eat if I discorporate my body.” Maybe the teasing wasn’t done after all.

“He~y! That’s no fair!”

Shizuku laughed again. “Alright, then perhaps I will make dinner instead?”

Kasumi considered the offer for a moment. “No, as much as Kasumin loves Shizuko’s cooking, I already have everything planned for tonight.”

“I’ll look forward to it.”

“You’d better.”

Yet again Shizuku couldn’t help laughing. Happily, she pulled her girlfriend closer as they approached their apartment.

Author's Note Continued: I was trying to think about a second entry for the prompt when I remembered that I have a Welsh named character in one of the plays in PoH, specifically the namesake play. Add in some prior existing thoughts about Shizuku's longing or homesickness for a place lost to time and... other events, and I got this.

I will probably rework a few things when I get around to adding this into the PoH:PP collection. Perhaps mention Maki at some point, as she is playing one of the leads. Maybe give Nico an actual line or two, and Kasumi as well during the character discussion. And since Shizuku is an understudy here, I would want to include Hanayo, the other as well. We'll see.

And that, kids, is why you don’t machine translate, or at least don’t rely on it—especially with dialect. It barely knows how to handle standard Japanese, so throwing a dialect, especially other than the popular Kansaiben, into the mix isn’t going to help matters. MTL can be a useful tool to help you get your bearings, but you should always take what it gives you with a grain of salt and use other resources as well.

If this were an imperative the way Google Translate translates it as, it would just be 立て, or 立てよ. Of course, there’s also 立てろ(よ), but that’s the imperative of the transitive verb 立てる, “to stand something up,” and this here is intransitive. Yes, this sentence ends with an エ sound, as many imperatives do, but only く verbs have け as their imperative, and this isn’t one.

So let’s look at what Yuni’s actually saying here.

First, we have the verb. This is the intransitive verb 立つ “to stand (up)” conjugated into the potential: 立てる “to be able to stand.” Next we have け, which is a question particle in Fukuiben and will replace か in many instances.

He’s asking, “Can you stand?”

GT completely changes the tone of this line. Cold and calloused, he orders Chika, who’s slipped and fallen after having already lost the use of his glasses, to stand up. But that doesn’t sound like him, does it? In the original, he’s worried and concerned about his best friend who’s already at a disadvantage and may now have hurt himself too and asks if he’s able to stand... while extending his hand to help him up.

Though it turns out, even if you put it into plain Japanese, GT still doesn’t know what to do with it, for the most part, and neither does DeepL:

The third is because it doesn’t realize it’s the potential form of 立つ, not the plain form of 立てる, and the first may be as well. At least, that’s the closest I can figure. The second... I have no idea. With just の, it gives you “to stand.” But with just んか or のか, it does finally get it. And literally the only difference between these is politeness/formality level.

DeepL, while often more reliable than GT, actually gets it worse, though:

I have no idea how it got “nobleman,” but “house; residence” is from the け reading of 家. Changing the け to か does not make it realize it’s a question, though it does change the translation to “making something stand up.” Which I was somewhat surprised about, considering 家 can also be read か, although that reading has to do with people/professions/etc. rather than houses.

立つ and 立てる can refer to constructing buildings (though I don’t know, if at all, how it differs from 建つ and 建てる), which is where “building” comes from in the second, though you wouldn’t stick の/ん between a verb and a noun since those just attach directly, so I still don’t know how it gets that.

But “liveliness”? “Court noble”? DeepL apparently has a habit of just guessing since it prefers natural-sounding English over an accurate translation, so that could be what that is, though I didn’t see anything about either in Goo辞���’s entry for 立てる.

This habit of guessing could be why it gives you “How are you going to stand up?” (all its alternatives also using “how”) for 立てるんですか, despite there being no “how” in the Japanese. And then for 立てますか it gives “Would you like to stand up?”

For 立てるの, it gives you “Stand.” or “Stand up.” With the period! Even GT didn’t do that when it thought it was an imperative. And this... definitely isn’t. A sentence-final の could be explanatory/emphasis (のです/のだ) or interrogatory (のか) with the second part dropped, but it’s not gonna be used with imperatives. Not to mention that there is no imperative that ends with る. There are verbs whose second-to-last mora is る, but imperatives for ichidan verbs are formed by dropping the final る and replacing it with ろ, while for godan verbs they’re formed by changing the ウ sound of the last mora to an エ (れ for る verbs, て for つ verbs, etc.). Even if a verb exists that ends in -るる, the imperative would be either -るろ or -るれ.

Like GT, with 立てるのか, it does finally give you the correct translation.

miya atsumu; he’s this close to screaming. or crying. possibly both. he can’t tell if he’s scared in general or scared for you or if he’s hurting seeing you hurting. in fact, no one can tell. he just looks like he’s watching an alien abduction happen right before his eyes. like a 6/10 because he probably does actually faint. it’s almost as if he’s the one in labor. and he’s the annoying kind of supportive that makes you want to smack him like shut the fuck up i’m pushing a whole child out of me right now. but his reactions are extremely endearing and hilarious to watch back because he most definitely insisted on filming. 

akaashi keiji; the silent struggler. really doesn’t wanna make it obvious at all. like he really, really, really doesn’t want you knowing that he’s uncomfortable in any way, but he’s like, sweating from how nauseous he is. a big part of it is hating seeing you in pain; he cringes every time you so much as groan or pant. 7/10 because he’s incredibly supportive but his hands are way too clammy :/ like fr get a grip keiji. again, supportive, but his voice is shaky so it’s like, really ineffective. he cries when he sees his baby and it automatically makes him an 11/10.

sakusa kiyoomi; absolute coward. pussy. it’s not about hygiene, he’s just genuinely mortified. keeps asking you’re okay like,,, what do you think, sir? he keeps looking even though every time he does it doesn’t get any better? question mark? you can see him visibly gulping cause he’s in so much shock. like a 5/10 because he forgets to hold your hand. just stands there. eyes wide and mouth parted like a dumb fish. chokes back on his sobs when he hears his baby’s cries and it’s adorable how he brings his hand up to silence himself so maybe he’s a 7/10.

goshiki tsutomu; please he probably has a panic attack mid labor. definitely screams with you and all the nurses and the doctor are like ???? holds your hand tighter than you’re holding his. apologizes the whole time. the whole time. like the doctor asked him if he wants to see what’s happening, which idk why they would consider that a smart idea, and he just wailed like, “baby i’m so sorry, i’m so sorry, can we just adopt?” a 3/10. he’s so cute but. bring someone else if you don’t want to rip your hair out and his. 

kageyama tobio; he absolutely tries to pretend that he’s okay but he just gets really, really quiet once you start delivering and his lips are chapped and his pupils are blown and his face is so pale. he looks like he just got off of a really bad rollercoaster. he’s not even holding your hand you’re just hanging onto an unmoving, lifeless limb. maybe 6/10, cause he could be better in the supportive department but, at least he was quietly panicking. he does have a mini panic attack once his baby is in his arms though. like just starts hyperventilating. it’s okay though! it’s actually kind of cute <3

lev haiba; actually faints. not probably. he actually faints. like all 6′5 of him just drops onto the floor by your bed and you’re like ,,, damn, guess i’m doing this alone then. he wakes up and the first thing he sees is your baby crowning and he just faints again pls. someone has to be there with you, just like to help him to you. he cannot stand straight at all, he’s leaning on the bed the whole time. 5/10 because it genuinely makes you laugh it kind of makes the pain bearable. they have to get a chair in case he just falls back cause he’s just so dizzy pls.

tanaka ryūnosuke; he’s like annoyingly scared. shut up and calm down for a minute i’m trying to birth your child here. swears so much like “holy shit holy shit that’s a big baby.” like pls you’re trying to push it out of you and he has the audacity to say shit like that? treats it like it’s some sort of volleyball match like he cheers whenever the doctor praises you. maybe a 5/10 cause he’s just annoying, but it’s motivating in a way. accepts any insult you throw at him too, like he’s so on board with it. “yes, i’m absolutely a piece of shit— what do you mean you’re not getting anywhere near my dick babe wait.”

bokuto kōtarō; listen :( you don’t want to think he’s annoying but he lowkey is. he’s trying his hardest to make this an easier experience for you but you just need him to be a little quieter. like this hurts bo, calm down please. you want to match his energy but it’s literally physically impossible. he’s an 8/10 though because you doubt it’d have been possible to go through it without him. bokuto’s incredibly ripped too so he lets you hang onto him and he holds you tightly too, like grips your hands and legs so strong that it’s v physically supportive too. 

kozume kenma; he’s so. quiet. like say something kozume. say anything. he’s just wincing and cringing. 4/10 cause where’s the emotion. lets you hold his hand, like wow you should be honored. insults you back if you insult him???? like what’s that about???? when he sees his baby he does like, sharply intake a breath or whatever cause he doesn’t want to cry but he’s really struggling not to, which is kind of cute you guess. films the whole thing and does like a peace sign with a very nonchalant face but he has a filter on and the filter scans your face too except you’re like screaming. actually a 3/10. 

sugawara kōshi; he’s incredibly supportive yes, but mans will be laughing at you. laughing. at you. probably films you and is like properly giggling and laughing boisterously. is so unfazed by anything and everything he sees. he would so easily be a 10/10 but he becomes a -1/10 just cause he’s an ass. definitely like is breathless and is so mind-blown when he sees his baby. just in awe and in shock that he laughs like, “we made that holy crap.” good to have in the delivery room because he does make the atmosphere easier and more lighthearted, but,,, at what cost? your sanity’s. 

suna rintarō; the amount of times you wanted to punch him you cannot count on your ten fingers. makes some sex joke about how you’re so stretched out. you literally want to deck him. films the birthing process and makes you watch the video when you’re not even done delivering the baby? cause he’s insane i guess? justifies it as “this is a reminder of how strong you are,” like shut up with your bullshit. it’s kinda smart tho cause you can pull this on your kid later but still. he’s so fucking annoying. if you hold his hand too hard he’ll be like “it can’t be that bad stop being such a baby,” and the baby is delivered like an hour early out of spite. a 6/10 tho cause somehow you love him and decided to have a baby with him. 

ushijima wakatoshi; pt.2 to say fucking something??? he’s mostly quiet cause he doesn’t really know what to say, and cause he’s never seen you in this much pain and it’s kind of shocking him. he’s not scared though, cause it’s like, a natural process of human life and the life cycle and all that stuff, he’s just like. taking time to process it. lets you hold his hand though. also if you wanna like give up halfway through he’s annoyingly angry with you like “no. you can’t just give up halfway. stop being a coward.” like why don’t you give it a try toshi??? a 5/10. could do better. 

terushima yuuji; so hyperactive that it’s infuriating. doesn’t even hold your hand, he just stands back and observes and like cheers. literally will jump every time you push, like what the fuck, my love? makes really weird comments like “what does it feel like? does it feel like you’re pooping?” like???? it feels like i’m being torn in half yu :D a 4/10 only cause when you ask if you can slap him he wholeheartedly agrees and the doctor cannot hold their laugh back. also definitely plays like the chika dance and makes the nurses do it with him. probably films a tiktok too. you’re going to kill him after. 

oikawa tōru; he’s trying so hard to be supportive and your backbone but he’s just so jittery and nervous. he’s not going to faint or get nauseous, but he literally cannot stay still. he’s so anxious it’s making you anxious. his hands are shaking when they grip yours, but honestly, completely unbiased of course, an 8/10, cause it really is so endearing. like he’s breathlessly and exasperatingly praising you and you can tell he’s near tears just gasping back sobs so ,,, maybe he’s not that annoying. but he is. he is annoying. a little. 

━━ would be the best of the best. perfectly supportive. a lovely anchor. not too quiet, not too chatty. is so soft and gentle with you. you fall in love with them all over again. 

miya osamu; definitely a 10/10. husband material. he has a cloth that’s just patting away at your sweat. kisses your hand and knuckles. soothingly rubs at your thighs. tells you you’re doing great, that it’ll all be worth it. kisses your forehead. grins at you halfway through when you need that extra motivation. literally all the nurses and the doctor are swooning over him. he’s very nervous deep down but he won’t show it, not for a moment, for your sake. 10/10. can’t stress this enough. 

kita shinsuke; another king! so soft with you when you feel like giving up. just speaks to you in hushed tones like, “you’ve come this far, lovely. you can’t back out now. think of all the happy moments we’ll get to share just a few hours from now.” and you’re like “alright i’m sold.” completely unfazed by anything he sees. okay maybe a little fazed but he just kisses your forehead after sneaking a peak and tells you you’re doing wonderfully. 100000/10. imagine him as the father of your children???? like literally who else would you want????

aran ojiro; wow another inarizaki i sense a trend. except atsumu he’s a pussy. cheers you on quietly, holds onto your legs, breathes with you, smooths your hair back, literally just an angel. if you take a small break he just spends it quietly talking with you to get your mind off the pain. his knuckles are just caressing your jaw and cheek softly till you’ve calmed down. 10/10 obviously. he’s just the right amount of loud supportive and quiet supportive. kisses you full on the mouth when he first hears his baby’s cries and can’t stop thanking you. literally wtf he’s so cute.

kuroo tetsurō; he’s actually surprisingly very serious when you’re delivering the baby. he’s cracking jokes and all before to try and get you less nervous but it’s actually because he’s freaking out. he’s mostly quiet, just holding onto your hand as tightly as you’re gripping his. he holds his breath every time you push. keeps whispering i love you and pressing kisses to your temple. a 9/10 cause he’s so quiet it’s a little scary but he cannot hold back his tears when he sees his baby. kisses you all over your face after. 

satori tendō; very emotional. like so emotional. he’s teary eyed the whole time, just thanking you even if you hadn’t given birth yet. it makes the nurses cry too cause it’s so lovely to see him get so visibly affected by this. he’s just whispering thank you’s and i promise not to let you down ever and i promise to love you forever and you’re pretty sure he’s speaking to the baby you’re birthing at this point. 9/10 cause he made you cry :( no but really he’s a 10/10. super loving, keeps asking you if you’re okay, if you need water, need to hold his hand, anything. angel, fr. 

matsukawa issei; relatively surprising as well because you expected him to be more than just annoying, but he’s just. in awe. he’s so amazed by how much you’re going through, and he just stores it in the back of his brain. literally thanks you for the next 50 years to come. laughs endearingly with you to lighten the mood. 9/10. a point is deducted because he jokingly said that now you’ll be able to take his dick really easily. a nurse choked in shock pls. gets real close after to whisper i love you so that only you can hear. he’s just a dream <3

Digimon Savers Commentary Episode 43 - Power Means Justice! The Beast Knight, Duftmon

In this episode, Chika is reunited with Piyomon as he and some baby Digimon appear at her house, while Yoshino and Ikuto visit there and help out to protect the Daimons from the Royal Knights, and they both achieve their Burst Modes.

After a brief recap, we open inside the giant tree in the Digital World, where Yggdrasil, still in its borrowed body, has just learned of RhodoKnightmon being defeated last episode along with Dukemon the episode before.

Yggdrasil: “But the human world must be eliminated. It is the only way to save the Digital World.”

You just keep telling Craniummon that, Yggdrasil. I still don’t believe you.

A new voice speaks up, declaring that he’ll carry out that mission. It’s Duftmon, another Royal Knight whom we haven’t met until now, not even in the gathering of them in episode 40. This guy likes to work alone, I guess?

Digimon Analyser:  “An Ultimate-level Digimon who believes that power means justice.”

This motto of his is apparently something the writers thought was so important it needed to be the title of this episode, but… it really isn’t? It’s literally just him being a tyrant: powerful people are more just and right than weaker people. Wow. What a dick.

Apparently he’s also the Royal Knights’ strategist. Not that this remotely matters either.

Craniummon: “What’s this? You’ve never voluntarily made a move before now.”

Duftmon:  “We are dealing with a serious matter that is putting the destruction of the Digital World in question!”

…Yes, Duftmon, and we’ve been dealing with that for several episodes now. Why did you not show up to help then? Craniummon’s remark that Duftmon apparently never voluntarily did anything should either, A, make him a terrible Royal Knight when they’re supposed to help the Digital World, or B, not matter because they all follow Yggdrasil’s orders whether it’s voluntary of them or not.

Also, for those of you not familiar with the original, I need to let you know that the U in Duftmon is not pronounced like in “dust”, as you’d probably expect. It’s pronounced “Dooft”. Now have fun trying to take this guy seriously when his name sounds like that.

Anyway, they make a thing of Yggdrasil grandly telling Duftmon to go help destroy humanity, and I am still raising an eyebrow at why this is supposed to matter any more than the multiple other Royal Knights who were already out there doing just that. I’m being kind of dismissive about Duftmon here because the writers clearly want us to care about him in particular and I just. Don’t. Nothing about him is interesting.

There’s actually a reason for the writers treating him this way! In between the previous piece of Digimon media to feature the Royal Knights, and Digimon Savers, three new Royal Knights were created and added to the roster: Craniummon, Sleipmon, and Duftmon. Those three debuted in this series, so the writers clearly wanted to give them more important roles and some time in the spotlight to show them off. They managed that with Craniummon and Sleipmon, who are both significant characters who matter a lot in this arc. They… really didn’t with Duftmon, who, despite the writers trying to shove his importance in our face in this scene, is really just another uninteresting villain-of-the-week like RhodoKnightmon was last episode.

The other reason for Duftmon being introduced separately from the rest of the Royal Knights we saw in episode 40 is that he happens to be a lot smaller than the others, in Savers canon at least. This is because he exists to fight Rosemon and Ravemon in this episode and nothing else, so that fight would look weird if he was as huge as, say, ShineGreymon. But on the other hand, it would look weird if he was standing there alongside the rest of the Knights in episode 40 just being awkwardly way shorter than anyone else. Hence him being conveniently introduced alone. (Or, well, Craniummon’s here, but the shots are never angled such that we can really see their difference in size.)

Over in the human world, Yoshino and Ikuto are driving in a minivan through the abandoned neighbourhood where the Daimons’ house is.

Yoshino:  “DATS subdivisions around the world are doing all they can to fight the Royal Knights, but the damages on our side keep rising.”

Ah yes, those very vaguely-defined other DATS subdivisions outside Japan. It’s still unclear as to whether those divisions even have Digimon partners with them (though that line in episode 12 about the “only five eggs” who’d appeared in the human world could have been referring specifically to Japan, making Digimon partners in other DATS branches possible), but even if they do, I doubt they can evolve to Ultimate. No wonder they’re getting creamed.

Ikuto:  “I’ll fight, too!”

Ikuto says this while punching his palm; look at how Masaru he’s being.

Yoshino reminds him that they’re here to protect Masaru’s home like they promised him they’d do.

Yoshino:  “We have to work harder for Tohma’s share now, too.”

This line would be implying that this episode happens concurrently with episode 42, while Tohma’s off at the airport dealing with his family issues. Except that the opening scene had Yggdrasil mention that RhodoKnightmon had already been defeated, so apparently… not…? Not sure what Tohma’s doing with himself in the interim in that case, then (he’s not already headed to the Digital World, because he's gonna show up here at the end of this episode) – I guess it’s just taking him a really long time to get here, for… some reason?

In amongst some talk about hoping things will be able to get back to normal, Yoshino mentions that Ikuto’s parents are busy trying to find a way to fix the dimensional barrier. Good for them! They’re the only experts in interdimensional gates that we have, so of course they of all people ought to be trying to help.

They spot a tornado in the distance, which coincidentally (or maybe not so coincidentally?) happens to be headed towards Masaru’s house. It turns out to narrowly miss the house, but not before depositing a small group of Digimon in the garden right before Sayuri and Chika’s eyes. It’s a bunch of nine Baby-level Digimon, and also, to Chika’s astonishment, Piyomon. Yes, that Piyomon. We hadn’t seen the last of him, it turns out!

As Chika rushes towards her long-lost friend in excitement, we go to the opening. Here’s a shot of Ikuto and Yoshino being cute together! It’s a bit of an unusual pair to see together in the opening every episode (kinda just left over because of course the first pair-shot had to be Masaru and Tohma), but now we finally are getting an episode focused on the two of them together.

Anyway, we interrupted Chika in the middle of flinging her arms around Piyomon.

Chika:  “Piyomon! You came to see me, right?”

Maybe? Perhaps it’s not such a coincidence that the tornado came right by their house, if there was some kind of invisible force drawing Piyomon and Chika back together. But if so…

Piyomon:  “You’re… Who are you?”

…it wasn’t at all on a conscious level. Piyomon doesn’t remember her.

Of course he doesn’t. Digimon who get turned into eggs lose all their memories of their past lives. Gotsumon didn’t remember, either.

And okay, so, yes, Agumon did remember. But I talked back in the episode where he hatched about my belief that that was down to the strong bond Agumon had with Masaru, allowing his memories to be retained. So what I believe happened with Piyomon – I can finally properly talk about what was going on in episode 13! – is that this only sort of half happened for him.

He had that bond with a human, but his time with her was so brief that it wasn’t quite enough for his memories to carry over completely. Instead, he was reborn in that messed-up state in which he retained the emotions of having somebody important to him, which caused him to rampage, but not enough to actually remember who she was. And then it took another egg-reversion reboot, just like is always needed when a Digimon rampages, to wipe that out and reset him back to his natural state of not remembering anything at all.

If Chika and Piyomon had had longer together before he got turned into an egg the first time, I believe he would have remembered everything about her just like Agumon did, and episode 13 wouldn’t have needed to happen. They just got very unlucky.

Sayuri and Chika, along with Yoshino and Ikuto, who made it here, take Piyomon and the babies inside the house to take care of them.

Lalamon:  “Is it really that Piyomon?”

Chika:  “Yes. I can tell.”

Aww. She just can, because they were friends. (Or rather, perhaps, because they were destined to be partners and share an intangible connection? Like Lalamon appeared as an egg in front of Yoshino when she found her courage. It seems like the Digimon who become someone’s partner often aren’t just any random Digimon but a specific Digimon who’s intrinsically drawn to that person’s inner strength.)

Chika looks sadly at Piyomon, recalling how she felt when he became an egg again at the end of episode 13 – glad that he didn’t have to suffer any more. (Since that really was unfortunately the only way to stop his rampage, him having lost his memories but being safe and himself now is better than the alternative.)

Chika:  “Piyomon. Have you really forgotten about me? Are you sure you can’t remember?”

Piyomon:  “I’m sorry…”

Aww, Chika, trying to hold onto some last hope that maybe he might remember her if he just tries. Of course she’d feel like they had enough of a bond that surely he couldn’t just forget like that. Alas, it worked for Masaru, but not quite enough for her.

Ikuto:  “Falcomon, is this Piyomon…?”

Falcomon:  “Yes. He’s from the Digiegg we planned to raise together.”

Aww, remember when Falcomon and Ikuto were gonna be Digi-dads! It’s nice to have them reflect that Piyomon’s the reason they ever got involved in all of this in the first place, even though things have changed enough that it wouldn’t really be appropriate right now for them to try and raise him any more.

Yoshino asks Piyomon how he and the babies ended up here. He explains that the Digital World is currently suffering from all kinds of natural disasters and a lot of Digimon have lost their homes. (He doesn’t ever quite explain why he’s with the babies, but I imagine he happened across them and tried to make an effort to protect them, being stronger than them? Look at him being something of a dad, heh.) As they were trying to find shelter, they got caught up in a tornado, which blew them all the way over to the human world.

Falcomon:  “But I guess this means not all Digimon think the human world should be erased.”

Yoshino:  “You guys are also victims.”

How about that! It’s almost like the Digimon side is also mostly good people who wish no harm on the other species and is just being driven by a small bunch of close-minded pricks right now.

(Yoshino picks up the Tokomon, who yawns, and oh god Tokomon please close your mouth your teeth are terrifying. This is a thing about Tokomon: cute, so long as it keeps its mouth closed.)

Piyomon worries about what’ll happen to him and the babies now. After a pause, Yoshino stands up and dramatically declares that she’ll look after all of them. Her mom-friend side is showing in full force, it seems!

Lalamon:  “But where will you take care of them?”

Yoshino:  “At my place, of course.”

Lalamon:  “But there’s no floor to step on.”

Yoshino continues to be deeply relatable. As I mentioned way near the beginning of the series, though she’s extremely reliable and gets all the stuff done in her work at DATS because it’s expected of her, apparently she does not extend that diligence and energy to her home life.

Chika instead suggests that they can stay here.

Chika:  “Piyomon. Even if you don’t remember, I do. We promised we’d always be together. I believe that being able to meet you again isn’t a coincidence.”

Aww. It’s hard for her to see her friend not remembering her, but that doesn’t mean their friendship and promises didn’t happen! She also believes in the power of (not even consciously-remembered) friendship bringing them back together again, of course she does.

Piyomon just sits there silently, not responding. It must feel kind of awkward on his end, knowing he’s so important to this person who seems like a stranger to him.

Sayuri:  “I’m glad to be given a reason to cook again!”

Sayuri says this with a happiness that might be a little bit forced, to lighten the mood in this grim situation. But we do know that she copes best with her worry when she can cook food for people, don’t we.

Lalamon:  “What are you doing?”

Yoshino:  “Oh, shut up. I’m helping out, too.”

We cut to a dramatic sparkly apron Yoshino… who is immediately sassed by Lalamon for the fact that she’s taking this so seriously. Again, more signs that she is not usually like this at home.

Their attempts at cooking keep getting interrupted by chaotic Baby Shenanigans. Pyocomon somehow manages to unroll enough toilet paper to wrap Falcomon up in it; Pukamon and Otamamon, the two aquatic ones, fill up the bath to overflowing so they can splash around; YukimiBotamon, a cold-loving Digimon, decides to hang out inside the fridge; two other babies fight over a pillow and tear it apart when Ikuto tries to pull it off them, knocking over a vase in the process. Then, just as Yoshino’s already had enough and loses her temper, Tokomon comes along and provides the one (1) singular brief poop joke in the entirety of Savers. I would complain about this, but also, I have watched Digimon Adventure in Japanese, so really this is incredibly tame in comparison.

A bit later, Yoshino’s calmed down, and she and Chika are cleaning up the mess.

Yoshino:  “I’m sorry, Chika-chan. Just when I said I’d look after them, too.”

Seems that after her bold promises, Yoshino somewhat regrets not being able to stop the chaos and letting herself get worked up at the babies, who are, after all, basically just Digi-toddlers who don’t know any better.

Chika:  “No, I’m having fun! I love it when things are lively.”

I mean, when your brothers are Masaru and Agumon, you kind of have to like lively, don’t you, Chika.

Yoshino:  “I admit, I enjoyed myself too. It’s been a while since I’ve found something worth doing.”

Now this is an interesting seemingly-innocuous comment from Yoshino. Apparently, the things she’s doing at DATS, she doesn’t consider to be ‘something worth doing’, by her own metric? I’ve often talked about how she must have joined DATS because she had to, in order to keep Lalamon around, and not necessarily because she cared about their mission. And even, more recently with all the stopping-genocide and saving-the-world she’s been doing, she doesn’t consider those ‘something worth doing’ in quite this way either? Perhaps she’s also been doing that out of a sense of obligation, simply because it's the right thing to do and she’s one of only a few people who can. But this here seems to be one of the first things in a while she’s found herself actually caring about doing on a personal, individual level.

Chika:  “Such as?”

Yoshino:  “Well… I’m always looking after Masaru and Tohma, so this isn’t all that different.”

Hah. She sure is. I love how she also includes Tohma in that as well; he is often no better at not being ridiculous than Masaru, and Yoshino has always been the most competent and practical of the team. Her mom-friend tendencies don’t just have to apply to them, however!

Lalamon:  “I actually think it’s those two who are always looking after you.”

Yoshino:  “What was that?”

Lalamon casually floats past and sasses her with this. In a way that’s also true! The team all look after each other in different ways, with their different strengths.

Yoshino:  “Anyway… I just think I should do my best as well.”

Implying she isn’t necessarily always doing her best in her usual DATS business, and instead only does good enough to get the job done satisfactorily. But having found something she actually cares about here, she’s more willing to put her all into it.

(I’ll be honest, this brief little look into Yoshino’s issues and implication that she’s finding a true calling here isn’t really going to go anywhere – and maybe there would be something a little awkward if it did, in that the one female character on the main cast would be finding her purpose in doing housework and looking after babies. But I at least appreciate these tantalisingly rare tidbits here that, again, hint at the fact that Yoshino was never really happy with her work at DATS and only did it out of a sense of obligation because she was forced into it. I really do wish this had been explored more.)

Later, Sayuri has prepared plenty of food. Piyomon awkwardly doesn’t join in with the itadakimasu, because of course he wouldn’t know to do that. (Which does beg the question of why Ikuto and Falcomon did do so in episode 22 when they were new to it, but at least the writers remembered to think about that this time.)

Yoshino:  “Delicious! I didn’t know emergency rations could taste so good…”

Apparently Sayuri managed to whip up something tasty even out of emergency rations, look at her go. But there still also are a bunch of fried eggs, somehow (who knows where she’s getting the eggs from right now), because Sayuri’s fried eggs are important and we cannot go without them. Ikuto and Falcomon are, of course, eagerly stuffing their faces.

Ikuto:  “Sayuri is a carrot at cooking!”

Falcomon:  “You mean, an expert!”

Ikuto:  “Yeah, a carrot!”

The subbers’ notes explain that Ikuto’s mixing up two similar Japanese words here (though they’re not even that similar; ninjin versus tatsujin). There’s something amusing about Ikuto’s dorky stubbornness in insisting that, no, I was right the first time, she’s a carrot.

Piyomon is awkwardly peering at his bowl of rice, when Chika places some fried eggs in front of him instead. She knows what’s up.

He tries one, and though he’s pretty low-key about it, he clearly loves them. Everyone loves Sayuri’s fried eggs. The babies were apparently waiting for their Digi-dad’s cue to see if it was okay for them to eat this food, because they only dig into their own meals after this.

Yoshino:  “Why did you come back here, Sayuri-san?”

Sayuri:  “Well… I wanted to greet them here when they came back. I’m sure Masaru will bring Suguru-san back with him.”

As she says this, Sayuri looks at the family photo, which has had the glass taped back together after it was broken by the power of symbolism a few episodes ago. If Masaru’s finally actually going to be bringing Suguru back, of course she wants to have that long-awaited reunion in their family home.

(Maybe. She says she’s sure, but I don’t think she’s actually so completely sure that Masaru will be able to manage it. She completely believes in Suguru being Suguru and not a genocidal god, of course, but Masaru actually bringing him back? She’s gone so long without him that in some ways that must feel too good to be true.)

Chika wonders how Masaru and Agumon are getting along right now, leading into a brief cutaway to the two of them in the Digital World. They would be wandering aimlessly through a desert! …were it not for the fact that they’re sitting back-to-back feeling too thirsty to move at all.

Masaru:  “Damn it, of all the places we had to fall in…”

This might actually be happening earlier than concurrently with the rest of this episode, because based on this, they’re specifically sitting in the giant crater that ShineGreymon landed in, so I can’t imagine they’ve been here for that long.

They notice something else falling towards them from the sky. It’s Gotsumon, who crashes into them and creates a smaller crater inside their big one. Fair payback for ShineGreymon landing on him last time they met, I guess!

Gotsumon:  “Oh, it’s you… Daimon Osaru and Ahomon!”

Or, as the subbers’ notes translate for us, Monkey Daimon and Moronmon. These words in Japanese are just about plausibly similar enough to their actual names that it’s possible this is a genuine mistake and not Gotsumon being a dick. Even if he is being a dick, he’s playing it off as not deliberate, because he’s simperingly polite like that. It’s very him.

(Chill, Gotsumon, you got your revenge for them falling on you, no need to keep holding a grudge.)

Gotsumon was also thrown here by a tornado, much like Piyomon. At least this conveniently allows him to guide Masaru and Agumon to Yggdrasil’s tree again, so that they don’t have to spend several episodes having irrelevant filler adventures while wandering aimlessly through a desert. Hooray for coincidences that make the plot happen! Plus, all of their not-aimless desert-wandering until they reach the tree again is going to happen (/has already happened) offscreen while we’ve been focusing on Tohma, Yoshino and Ikuto in the human world.

Back at the Daimons’ house, Ikuto and Falcomon are with Piyomon and the babies in Masaru’s room. Satisfyingly stuffed from the meal, Ikuto stretches out on Masaru’s bed. It’s a small thing, but it’s a really great sign of how much he unconsciously feels like he belongs here, after everything in his earlier arc.

Ikuto:  “Piyomon, do you like this place?”

It’s cute how enthusiastically Ikuto asks Piyomon this. He, Ikuto, really loves this place and how at home he’s been able to feel here. He’s sure Piyomon must feel the same, right?

Piyomon:  “We’re not being nuisances, are we?”

Aww, Piyomon. He’s not so sure – all of these people he doesn’t even know, going to such lengths to cater to them and clean up after the babies’ messes. What if they don’t really want to? (He was not present for Yoshino’s conversation in which she talked about how she was invested in helping with this.)

Piyomon:  “Is it really okay for us to be here?”

These words in particular make Ikuto take notice. That’s the exact thing he asked Masaru in episode 22, when he was having doubts about whether he really belonged here (or anywhere) and whether Masaru really wanted to take care of him. But of course Masaru did, and that was all there was to it.

Ikuto knows exactly how Piyomon feels – and now, he’s secure enough in his own sense of belonging that he can be the one to tell Piyomon it’s okay.

Ikuto:  “I’ll be your aniki.”

Piyomon:  “Aniki?”

Ikuto:  “Masaru protected everyone. I’ll protect everyone, too. I’ll protect all of you!”

Falcomon:  “Me, too!”

Or, more specifically, he can be this! Aww. Look at him learning from Masaru and now feeling confident enough to be an aniki himself to people weaker than him. It’s such a cute symbol of how much he’s grown. (And Falcomon, too!)

As the babies all excitedly start calling Ikuto aniki, he blushes and laughs, and it’s adorable.

Ikuto:  “All right! Time for a pillow fight!”

Falcomon:  “Yeah!”

Of course, the most important thing for anikis to do with their followers: teach them how to have a pillow fight! Man, I love all the callbacks to episode 22, it was such a good episode.

Yoshino walks in to pillows flying everywhere among excited yelling, and Ikuto accidentally throws one in her face. She’s almost about to get mad at them – including Ikuto – for being chaotic again, but then there’s a crashing noise from outside.

Ikuto:  “Th-That wasn’t me!”

Yoshino: [heading towards the window] “I know that!”

I like this; Ikuto still thinks he’s somehow about to be chewed out for that too, but as soon as there’s evidence of actual danger, Yoshino’s dropped her petty frustration with them entirely and is getting right down to the business of figuring out what’s going on.

It’s Duftmon, of course, happening to be doing some human-world destruction in an area worryingly close to Masaru’s neighbourhood.

Duftmon:  “Weak and foolish humans. Accept Yggdrasil’s verdict!”

Duftmon, you are monologuing to literally nobody. Even if the humans in the houses below could hear your voice (probably not), there aren’t even any humans in the houses below, because everybody’s evacuated.

His attacks leave gaping holes of Digital Gate throughout the suburbs, and again, I don’t think this is a property of his attacks (it’d be a bit much if Royal Knights could just do that without having swallowed any space-time bombs), but rather a side effect of how deeply unstable the barrier is right now.

Duftmon:  “The weak should perish.”

So to him, this isn’t even just about Yggdrasil’s orders to supposedly protect the Digital World, it’s also about his bullshit tyrannical philosophy: strong people good, weak people bad. What a great person.

As they head out to fight, Sayuri tells Yoshino and Ikuto to be careful.

Piyomon:  “Will we be forced to leave this place, too?”

Aww, Piyomon. He’s been forced out of anything that might have been a home to him thanks to all the disasters in the Digital World, and now that he’s finally found somewhere he can belong at least for the time being, he’s afraid he might not be able to stay here, either. All the more reason for Yoshino and Ikuto to fight to protect not just everyone’s lives, but this place in particular. They could always flee to somewhere safer, but they don’t want to have to.

They take the minivan up to the edge of the destruction where the huge Digital Gate gash in the streets is, because of course it didn’t cross their minds to evolve your partners for transport goddammit. They only evolve them once they get there and see Duftmon.

Their attacks do very little to Duftmon; unimpressed, he does some more pompous gloating and counters them with an attack that also causes a bunch more destruction. Back at home, the Daimons hear the tremors, and Chika gets worried enough to go outside and see from the balcony, despite her mother’s protest.

Chika:  “Why can’t both Digimon and humans get along?”

Aww. That same question that’s been bothering her almost from the beginning, since she befriended Piyomon, when everyone else was starting down the warpath with Mercurimon. There really is no reason at all that the two species shouldn’t be friends; it’s all just been a bunch of misunderstandings and prejudices and deliberately twisted truths on both sides that’s led to all this fighting. Thanks a bunch, Kurata. (And Yggdrasil, too. It claims that it’s only doing this because of Kurata’s actions, but it also sat around and deliberately let Kurata’s genocide happen, so it’s equally culpable, really.)

Piyomon:  “It’s dangerous out here.”

At seeing her go out into potential danger, Piyomon’s forgotten protective instinct towards Chika seems to be surfacing, even if he doesn’t consciously remember his promise.

Duftmon is still determined to carry out Yggdrasil’s orders, and Yoshino and Ikuto are still determined to protect this place and stop him. Despite being somewhat smaller than the other Royal Knights, Duftmon’s nonetheless quite a bit bigger than Rosemon and Ravemon in their current forms and can smack them bodily away by just backhanding them, before hitting them with an attack that blasts through a bunch of houses down below as well.

The destruction’s edging ever closer to the Daimons’ house as the fight goes on. It’s only a few streets away now, close enough that Yoshino can look back and see Chika and Piyomon watching them from the balcony.

Yoshino:  “Stop this!”

Ikuto:  “There are Digimon who were blown from the Digital World up ahead!”

Duftmon:  “Then they will have to disappear along with the human world!”

Ikuto:  “Why?! You destroy human world because you want to save the Digimon, isn’t it?!”

Duftmon:  “Saving the Digital World is justice. The small number of Digimon lives that are sacrificed in the name of that justice is meaningless!”

Welp, Duftmon is a massive dick who will murder babies for the sake of doing what he’s told and pass that off as justice. Like, dude, it wouldn’t be that hard for you to go in there, grab the Digimon and give them a lift back to the Digital World before continuing your destruction. Ikuto totally has the right idea to call him out on this blatant hypocrisy.

Ikuto:  “We will protect them. Both the people *and* the places we care for!”

It’s a neat little thing that Ikuto also stresses protecting the places that are important to him, too. He’s finally become able to feel like he belongs, not just in the human world in general but in places like Masaru’s house where he made all those good memories. He is not letting that get destroyed.

Duftmon’s attack collides with Rosemon’s and Ravemon’s in a huge explosion that sends a shockwave and dust cloud all the way back to the Daimons’ house. Piyomon clings to Chika protectively to shield her from it, and when the dust clears, he’s evolved. All the way to Garudamon, his Perfect-level.

Garudamon:  “Chika… I will protect you!”

That fierce desire and promise of his to protect her from two whole lives ago really was incredibly powerful, to have persisted all this way without even any memory and let him evolve. There is still a flash of (orange!) Digisoul over him as he does it, so in some way I suppose Chika’s emotions towards him also helped do this even if she wasn’t doing it consciously, but, damn. Still impressive, without a Digivice to channel it all through.

Yoshino and Ikuto look back and see that Piyomon evolved. Perhaps seeing his determination is the last little nudge they need to push their own determination into overdrive. Or, uh, not overdrive, I guess, but Burst. Shush, that was an unintentional pun and then I ran with it.

Yoshino:  “So that Masaru and the others can return home… We will protect this place!”

Yoshino also cares about protecting this place in particular, after hearing why Sayuri chose to stay here!

Ikuto:  “My duty is to protect everyone!”

And I bet Ikuto’s thinking about his newfound duty as an aniki, aww.

Ikuto’s Digivice has still been the original version all this time, incidentally, since he wasn’t there for the episodes where the others broke their Digivices and fixed them through BanchouLeomon’s training. That older model has been enough for him to still manage Ultimate-level anyway, knowing how to control his emotions, but apparently Burst Mode does need the Digivice Burst in particular. Luckily the Digivice can also evolve itself just from Ikuto achieving Burst Mode level emotions, even without being broken, so it finally does that now.

Rosemon and Ravemon don’t get the fancier 3D CGI evolution animations for their Burst Modes like ShineGreymon and MirageGaogamon did. Rosemon’s still feels the need to remind us that she has boobs and a butt, of freaking course, ugh.

Their Burst Mode forms are largely recolours with some extra adornments, like usual, but in their case they also happen to make them significantly larger than human-size, so that they’re almost as large as Duftmon now.

Ikuto:  “One-sided justice…”

Yoshino:  “Isn’t justice at all!”

Not that it wasn’t already obvious that Duftmon’s concept of “justice” was a load of tyrannical bullshit, but I guess I can appreciate them telling him that.

Ravemon Burst Mode has more of those long elaborate Japanese attack names, but it does look cool, with him swooping in and hitting Duftmon at super-speed from multiple directions. And Rosemon’s new attack name is French for “arousing lips”, because why the heck wouldn’t it be, ughhhhh.

They win the fight pretty uninterestingly in one attack each, but, hey. Duftmon doesn’t really deserve to get to put up more of a fight than that.

His egg still gets yoinked up into the sky by a beam of light, like RhodoKnightmon’s did.

The morning after, on the street outside the Daimons’ house, Yoshino and Ikuto are getting ready to head off to the Digital World after all.

Ikuto:  “The Royal Knights’ way of thinking is wrong.”

Falcomon:  “We’ve decided that we must fight!”

Yoshino:  “We have no other choice but to fight if we want to protect what’s important to us.”

The way they’re talking here makes it sound like they hadn’t had any kind of resolve to fight until the events of this episode. Which… isn’t really what it was at all? They were still resolved to fight, just to specifically protect the human world, where all the attacks were happening.

I talked last episode about how there is a sensible reason for them to want to head up there to help Masaru, in that the Royal Knights’ attack is too large-scale for them to make any meaningful dent in it by themselves, and the only real way to stop it is to confront Yggdrasil. But that’s… not at all the angle on it they’re taking here, nor Tohma last episode, really. It kinda does read a bit transparently like the three of them only had these episodes here in the human world for the sake of getting their Burst Modes before they joined up with Masaru again. Ah, well.

Ikuto:  “Piyomon, can you protect everyone for us?”

Piyomon:  “Okay. I’ll protect everyone.”

At least, although they may be leaving this place that they were just stressing the importance of protecting back in the fight, they do still know they’re leaving it with someone to protect it, because Piyomon can evolve now. Only to Perfect and not Ultimate, mind, but still better than nothing.

Tohma and Gaomon show up at the street, having apparently made their way here after the end of last episode rather than heading straight to the Digital World. I guess Tohma had a feeling that Yoshino and Ikuto would also be having a somewhat-inexplicable change of mind about heeding Masaru’s wishes to let him go alone. So they’re all going to head off after him together.

Chika:  “Have a safe trip!”

Though it’s not subbed the same way, this is exactly the same Japanese phrase of goodbye-with-the-expectation-of-coming-back that little Masaru said to his dad all those years ago. And Chika’s waving them off from the same street, as they’re heading to the same place that Masaru’s dad was. Parallels! I like to think that was intentional.

Overall thoughts

Ehhhhh, this may be the weakest episode of this arc, other than the clip-show one. It’s fine, it does its job, but I didn’t find myself with nearly as much juicy stuff to talk about here as I do in most episodes.

I appreciate the brief bits hinting at Yoshino’s issues and showing Ikuto’s growth into an aniki himself, but there’s so little time to focus and expand on them; I wish there’d been more. As it is, it’s somewhat hard to tell exactly what it is about this episode’s events that triggered such new strength for them. It probably would have been better to split this up and spend one episode each for their Burst Modes, to explore them more. Perhaps Ikuto could have been here with the Daimons, and meanwhile Yoshino could have visited her family in some capacity? It would have been nice to get some follow-up on her issues with them that were hinted at in episode 17.

Then of course, Duftmon is just as uninteresting a one-off villain as RhodoKnightmon was, so it’s silly that the writers apparently expect us to care about him more. He does not carry this episode, guys, really.

Despite all that, I appreciate this episode feeling like less of a bottle episode plot-wise than Tohma’s, in that a bunch of other stuff happens relating to multiple different characters. Some more focus on the Daimons is nice, and it’s neat to see Piyomon again and have him brought back into things at last. Oops, looks like one of the Daimons does have to deal with the pain of their partner forgetting all about them, ouch. Poor Chika.

Blue Exorcist 10th anniversary book Q&A session

The 10th anniversary book has a section where Katoh answers 100 questions submitted by fans on Twitter, so here they are translated/paraphrased! May contain manga spoilers up to the recent flashback arc, so be warned.

(Note that I’m playing it very fast and loose here because there are A HUNDRED OF THEM, so not exact wordings, but it should capture the gist. Lemme know if there are any you want elaborated on)

1. Katoh likes the feel of traditional drawing more than digital but is impressed with how far digital has come

2. Meph THOROUGHLY ABUSES spacetime to watch all his shows and ensure that he gets all the merch he wants

3. Did the girls take all of Yukio’s school uniform buttons in middle school? Yes, they did (apparently it’s like A Thing for girls to ask for a button from their crush at middle school graduation, based on some sad movie from the 60s where a guy who got drafted as a kamikaze pilot gave a girl one of his uniform buttons to remember him by)

4. Rin's tail is about a meter long

5. There are tons of servants working at Mephisto's mansion. Belial is in charge of them

6. Katoh borrows from all sorts of neat real locations when making settings

7. Katoh identifies with pretty much all the characters the most! Except Lucifer.

8. Demon designs she's proud of include the impure king and hachirou, pretty much anything that was the main one in an arc

9. Katoh lists a bunch of her favorite musical artists/music she’s listening to recently: King Gnu, Official Hige Dandism, Kenshi Yonezu, BAD HOP, Sakanaction, Keyakizaka 46, Hypnosis Mic, Aimer, B’Z, Queen Bee.

24. Time for making each chapter: Planning/storyboarding: 1-5 days. Sketching: 3-5 days. Drawing/inking: the rest. Just...the rest of the time

25. Neither Suguro nor Izumo have dated before and neither is currently dating. But that's probably just because things were hectic for them! It could happen

28. The demon she wants us to pay the most attention to is Lucifer. Because plot.

32. Rin's tail feels like a cat tail, texture wise

33. The "red Assiah fire" is literally just actual fire nothing special

34. Rin's current hair color is light blue fading to white at the ends

35. Thoughts on Rin's growth: she likes that he stays positive in awful situations and she also thinks it's very main character of him to face the past instead of avoiding it

36. Mephisto didn't purposely surround Rin with stuffed animals when he woke up after going crispy. Mephisto's bed is just Like That

37. Kurikara was based on a cool sword she found in a sword book, but that one was technically just a ceremonial sword. The symbol on it us a Sanskrit letter kaan (sp?) associated with Fudou Myouou

38. Kuro can communicate with normal cats and hangs out with them often

39. Sometimes Shiemi's skirt is extra fancy around the hem what's up with that? Apparently it's an optional accessory that comes with the skirts help I haven't noticed this and don't know any fashion terms in any language

40. When coloring, Katoh always tries to have an overall theme in mind ("emphasis on blue" etc) so it comes together in the end

41. Yes the twins are genetically related to Shiro because of Goro (she says they're like his nephews but I say GENETICALLY at least they'd be indistinguishable from his children)

42. Strongest mom of all the strong moms around here? Yuri! Did you SEE her give birth??

43. Are you careful about your own health Katoh-sensei? Not particularly! Her mom has had to bring her food at work sometimes! Don't do this at home kids

44. At the dating events Shura goes to, does she drink cocktails in moderation? Yeah, she probably downplays her normal drinking habits at these things. But normally she's down for just about any kind of drink

45. Lucifer just really likes oysters okay

46. How many pages of manga does Katoh draw in a day? If she's being good about self-care: three. Maximum number ever: TEN

47. Mephisto is one of those folks who can eat like a garbage compactor and never gain weight. Possibly because his body resists that sort of change the same way it resists aging etc

48. First food Rin cooked: fish burger type patty. Yukio's favorite things Rin cooks: fish simmered in soy sauce, yellowtail with daikon radish. It's fish all the way down

49: Did Rin ever get more monthly allowance from Mephisto? It doubled! He gets TWO 2000 yen bills now (rip) [T/N: That's uh, that's USD $37.26 a month or 33.10 euro]

50. Why isn't Rin more popular with the girls? He gets nervous talking to them, plus he's too oblivious to notice even if he DID have some fans

51. Why change Suguro's hair? She gets bored with keeping everything the same, and she wanted a visual representation that he was getting serious and going into kind of a training arc

52. Things Katoh pays extra attention to when drawing: trying to capture the feel of whatever she's drawing (like "that looks warm and soft" or "I bet that guy stinks" cough Lightning cough)

53: Does Rin take after Yuri more? (He's got her eyes!) Katoh tried to draw Yuri so she looks like both twins. Personality, too - Yukio has her smarts and Rin has her optimism

54: Do you ever wanna be like Mephisto? Well she'd like to be able to get away with just ANYTHING EVER, but no, let's not be like Mephisto

55. Konekomaru not only carries around a cat toy in case he meets any cats, he MAKES cat toys to carry around based on what he thinks the cats would like

56. How'd you come up with Shima? Go read the fan book!

57. Do the kids have Twitter/Instagram accounts? Rin - probably not. Konekomaru might be on some social media. Paku and Izumo are totally on instagram

58. Is there something Rin makes that you wish you could try? All of it! That's the whole idea! He's good at cooking!

59. Will we ever have a (G-rated) reveal of what ALL of Mamushi and her family's tattoos look like? Maybe! She'll think about it

60. Does Arthur have a repertoire of different hairstyles? Not really, he just puts some of it up on the top. Heck he might even have people to do that for him

61. If you wrote a shojo manga what would it be about? She'd have to do a lot of research before even coming up with a story, since there are so many style differences between the genres aside from just the subject

62. The other two of Mephisto's top 3 favorite foods: Cup ramen and....f-fried bubblegum?? Is that a THING???

63. Where do you start when drawing a character? Usually the outline of their face but if it's a complex pose/composition she'll start with whatever's in the foreground (like hands)

64. If Katoh could have a familiar, what demon would she choose? Mephisto. As the all-powerful author, she might actually be able to command him as a familiar!

66. If you swapped Yukio and Rin's relationship around what would change? not much, you'd pretty much have Rin going to the Illuminati and Yukio going to the past

67. Top 3 foods/souvenirs to try in Kyushu? Well she doesn't know what’s good CURRENTLY but when she was there she always used to like burdock tempura udon, hakata torimon (a kind of manju with white bean paste inside), and Chikae style cod roe. today I learned Katoh went to high school in Kyushu

68. Katoh listens to music a lot while she's storyboarding, then when she and the assistants are all drawing and inking they put various videos/movies and stuff on in the background

69. For all his hitting on girls, is Shima actually popular with the ladies at all? He's got enough girls in his life that he probably COULD find a girlfriend if he really wanted, but the double agent thing tends to get in the way. He still wouldn't be as popular as Yukio though (side thought/translator’s note: Shima would be proud of being number 69.)

70. Katoh has the ending planned out in a big-picture way, but there are still a few details here and there that she's fretting over

71. It's cute when the boys put their ties over their shoulders when they're working on something! Where'd that come from? She just figured a tie might get in the way and that seemed like a realistic way to get it out of the way

72. Looks like Yukio is getting some facial hair! What about Rin? They're both about the age for it, but maybe Rin can't grow a beard yet. Maybe a little peach fuzz here and there

73. Katoh's favorite blue exorcist merch? There were some exorcist licenses a while back, and the exorcist pins. Basically it's really cool that these little accessories she drew ACTUALLY EXIST NOW, LIKE YOU CAN HOLD THEM IN YOUR HANDS

82. Inspiration for the design of True Cross Town? Katoh and her assistants gathered up a bunch of references, picked out stuff they felt matched the tone, and mashed them all up together

83. Did you use any references etc for the school/exorcist uniforms? She says she probably should have but she just kind of made them up before publication

84. Favorite part of drawing? For color pages, picking out a color scheme. For black and white, drawing in all the little details (though she doesn't always get time to lately)

87. Do you base the demon characters on any references etc? Not really, she just gets a general idea of popular demon designs and then makes up her own in her own style

88. Merchandise Katoh personally wants to have made: stuff that an adult could just use in their day to day life. Also, it's not gonna happen, but if her favorite figure brand made AoEx figures she could die happy

89. If Beelzebub's host body was a beautiful woman, how would Shima react? Would the womanizing win out over the bug phobia? Katoh replies that Shima would probably just faint from being near a girl that pretty, before the bugs even got involved

91. What do you check at a "scenario check"? what's a scenario check man I dunno They check for people being out of character or the setting feeling off. They had a lot of these checks for the anime, but they also do them for the drama CD, games, and all that other stuff where multiple authors are involved

92. Why does Shura use baldy as an insult for people who are clearly not bald? She feels like they have some kind of metaphorical, mental kind of "baldness" and she's calling them out on it. Whatever that means

93. After Blue Exorcist ends, what do you want to draw next? She has SO MANY IDEAS, SO MANY

94. Did Katoh make up the Shinto chants that, for example, Izumo used against Gedouin? They're assembled from bits of actual Shinto prayers according to what feels right in the scene

95. Yukio reads the Jump SQ, right, and, just hear me out here, he likes gag manga, right? Does this mean he reads Salaryman Yukio? It's something he would read, but let's say that in the AoEx universe there's just a very similar manga that he finds oddly relatable

What do Yukio and Shima do in their free time on the Dominus Liminus? oh my god you guys this ship has so many amenities.  Yukio probably spends time reading in the library, which they totally have. There's also, like, a gym, and a movie theater, and a THEATER theater, all of which are free. Shima probably hangs out at the pool (!) and goes to the movies, and hits on illuminati girls, lol

97. Easiest character to draw? The ones with boring simple hair, lol. Lightning gets an honorable mention for ALSO not having eyes in most shots, but Rin wins--he was specifically designed to be easy for Katoh to draw because that's what you want in your main character

98. How do demons understand gender? They just possess whatever feels like the best match to how they feel in Gehenna, whether that's a man, or a woman, or a rat, or whatever

99. Where do you start when you're coming up with a story? She starts with character design and how the characters relate to each other. Currently she's just continuing an existing story, so she works on splitting up the overall plot into episodes and fleshing it out with scenes and information about characters

100. When do you feel most happy? She honestly feels like she lives a very happy life overall. Mentions noticing a lot of little things, like how nice her cats' heads smell when she cuddles them or taking a nice cold refreshing drink of water. There's happiness in everything. aww.

thank you ALSO for this question cuz uehhhhh i feel pretty emotional over my writing journey this 2023. i didnt write as much as i wanted, but im still proud of myself for what i managed to get out

the fic i enjoyed writing the most this year has got to be, hands down, growing pains

(yes i will shamelessly self promo it HAHA, it's the fic im proudest of writing this year!! to anybody out there hasnt read it, if you do read it, itd mean the world to me)

while this fic didnt do numbers or anything, it's the one fic that i'd been wanting to write basically ever since i learned of marius' family's lore and his backstory. it was an idea that i kept in my head for the longest time, and finally being able to write it was so rewarding. the comments i got on the fic too, both on the fic or from people telling me or from aRT INSPIRED BY THE FIC (CHIKA IF UR OUT THERE, KNOW THIS ART LIVES IN MY HEART!!), it all made me so so so grateful and happy. just goes to show that theres no such thing as too late to write a fic idea ;w; someone out there will always be able to resonate with the story ;w;

as for 2024......i....actually dont wanna be writing very much anymore, if im being honest ;w;

i know i just posted a wip of a christmas fic but after some reflection ive come to the conclusion that! writing isnt making me very happy lately if im being honest HAHA. and life is too short to waste on things that make me feel upset. the only reason im writing right now is because it feels like homework, which....isnt a great way to think about a hobby thats sposed to be bringing me joy.

maybe one day in this upcoming year, the joy to write will come back and i'll ferally work on a wip with passion and gusto again. but until then, take this ask as me taking an informal hiatus from fics and most hcs

You were smitten the first time you saw Cedric Diggory. He was not only unbelievably handsome but kind, funny, and just an overall wonderful human being. At first, the two of you rarely talked, only having a few classes together. But as years passed, you both became partners in most of your classes and began to realize how much you had in common.

Until you started to realize that not every wizard has been introduced to a muggle. Well, at least you thought you were muggle - you apparently had some sort of magic blood within you, letting you attend Hogwarts.

You were beyond shocked when you received a letter from Hogwarts stating that you were a wizard - weren’t those made up, like that one series of books into movies? What was it called, Harley Porter?

Anyways!

It was extremely difficult being a muggleborn in a school mostly filled with students who had at least one parent that knew of magic. However, one person that stayed consistent through those years with you was Cedric. He was quiet in his first few years, but slowly came out of his shell and showed you how to be a wizard to your full potential. He also proved to be an amazing friend, sticking up for you whenever other wizards would question your ability to even be a wizard with your muggle status. He seemed to know how to handle every situation thrown at him, and that was something you envied about him - but loved him nonetheless. 

So to see Cedric very confused over such minuscule items in your house was a wee bit surprising. You thought wizards would know everything about muggles, considering they were like little pet rats and most wizards loved analyzing them. Apparently, that wasn’t the case.

Cedric had decided to come over to your house during Christmas break, saying he missed your mom’s homemade meals and your dad's jokes that made him laugh till he cried - but you knew he just wanted to spend time with you. He had met your parents once before, but that was outside of the muggle environment. So now, coming into your home for the first time, he didn’t know what certain things were and was taken aback by some items.

Entering your house, your tiny laundry room was the first room that the house enclosed, attached to the kitchen. Cedric pointed at your washer and dryer, stacked atop of each other, “what are those things, darling?”

You raised an eyebrow, “a washer and dryer. We use them to wash and dry our clothes.”

Cedric furrowed his eyebrows, “why not use the scouring charm?”

With a laugh, you took Cedric by the arm and led him through the kitchen, “it feels better to sort our clothes and have them go through the process of being cleaned. Although, I sometimes use the charm when I’m feeling lazy.”

Your boyfriend chuckled and nodded along, but stopped once he saw the toaster in your kitchen, “okay, darling, I understand the washer and dryer, but what in Merlin’s beard is that?”

Looking at where Cedric was pointing at, you squeezed his hand, “a toaster, love. We put bread within those little slots and by pushing the level down, the heaters inside toast the bread.”

He looked dumbfounded, “you muggles astound me. You don’t just make lightning bread?”

Now you looked confused, “lightning. . .bread?”

Cedric looked you in the eyes before snorting, “how about that tour?”

Rolling your eyes but silently adoring his little snort, you pulled your boyfriend through the dining room to the upstairs and into your room, before closing the door, setting one of his bags on the floor. Plopping on your bed, you pulled out your phone, deciding to go onto Snapchat and send pictures to a few of your friends.

Your boyfriend walked around your room, glancing at the little trinkets you had. One thing that caught his eye, though, was a picture with you and some of your friends from your hometown. Picking up the photo, he noticed you were mid laugh, along with your friends, but the picture wasn’t moving.

“Sweetheart,” Cedric started, watching as your face lit up from the flash on Snapchat, looking over at him, “how come this photo isn’t moving?”

You smiled, “those are my friends, my muggle friends. Obviously, they can’t be exposedto magic so I can’t take any moving pictures with them.”

You seemed a little hurt at the end, but understood that it’d be dangerous to even expose your muggle friends to a moving picture.

Giving you a tight smile, Cedric jogged over to your bed and laid next to you, resting his head on your chest as you played with the filters on Snapchat, laughing at Cedric’s facial expressions he made.

“That’s your phone, right?” your boyfriend asked, still looking surprised as to how so much light and information could fit onto one screen.

You kissed his head, “yes, love, and actually. . .I just downloaded this new app called ‘TikTok’ and I’ve been scrolling through it - the people on here are absolutely hilarious. I even learned a new dance!”

You pushed yourself up, looking around for your phone charger that seemingly disappeared.

Cedric leaned back, propping himself up on an elbow, “a new dance, you say? Show me those moves, beautiful.”

You blushed, “I didn’t say I was good, Ced.”

Pausing your search, you wrapped yourself up in one of Cedric’s Quidditch sweaters that you definitely took with his permission, tossing your shirt into your hamper, leaving you in shorts and his sweater. Then, you leaned over the edge of your bed once more, trying to see if your charger was caught between the wall.

Cedric smirked, leaning over to grab your ankle, jokingly trying to pull you towards him as you leaned over the bed, trying to reach the charger, “c’mon darling, show me some of those moves you learned on. . .TikTok.” He chuckled to himself, wondering how muggles came up with those names.

You yelped when his hand met your ankle, blushing profusely as his fingers played with your calf, “Cedric Diggory!” With a sigh, you tossed a glance to him as you hopped off the bed, “promise you won’t laugh?”

He looked you over as he supported his head against the many pillows and stuffed animals you had on your bed, ruffling his hair, “no promises. . .go ahead, sweetheart.”

From that night on, Cedric learned the multitude of TikTok dances that took over the world, ranging from the Renegade (he grew frustrated at how quickly Charli picked it up but he couldn’t) to the Chika dance.

All the two of you did was laugh, stumbling over your own two feet as you struggled to learn the dances. However, at the end of the night, Cedric kissed you, telling you that while being TikTok famous would be cool, just being with you was a hundred times better.

It depends on the post, if I’m feeling inspired, no writers block or anything then I can knock it out in one sitting, maybe a couple of hours top. If it’s longer - for example more characters or a situation that requires more detail then it’ll probably take me several sessions.

Kazui seemed to open a garganta so has he been sending souls to hueco mundo accidently? Or is this how he goes to SS? Do these spirits end up in the Dangai? Then again there were the 3 floating eyes and when we saw the Hell gate at the end there was only one eye

I LOVED ICHIKA SO MUCH OMG She’s so funny and I loved her interactions with everyone - calling Yumichika “Chika-san” and calling him beautiful. SHE CALLS RENJI TOU-SAMA my heart I can’t. And kudos to Kubo because I felt like I could see Renji and Rukia in her expressions. 

LET UKITAKE REST omg but the potential!!!! Also bless Ichigo not knowing who the fuck Szayelapollo is but fighting anyway. Never change Ichigo, never change

You left a dark hickey on the side of his neck (literally dark purple)

As the host king, he has many clients, so more people to point out

“Tamaki...” “Yes, my beautiful princess?” “Is.. is that a hickey?”

He IMMEDIATELY turns beet red and denies it

When his S/O walks over, they play along

“Yeah... what is that?”

At this point he’s stammering and can barely get out any sentences

“N-no! I-I-I just ha-happened to fall a-and... uh...”

His S/O thinks this is super hilarious (also super adorable)

“Oh, really? What did you fall on?”

“U-uhhh... a.. rock! Yes, a rock!”

He’s not super convincing, but once the laughter dies down, his S/O is actually super sweet about it (but still pokes fun)

“Hmm, well that must have hurt. Do you want me to kiss it to make you feel better?”

He happily accepts

Kyoya Ootori

Kyoya doesn’t strike me as an easily flustered guy, and even when he is, he can pull it off really well

Haruhi is the first to notice

“Uh, Kyoya-senpai? Why is there a huge bruise on your jawline?”

He pushes up his glasses slightly as a calm expression remains on his face

“Nothing to worry about. Tamaki was just playing kick the can and it hit me. No big deal.”

That excuse didn’t work for long though, because once his S/O was by his side, she didn’t back him up

“Huh, I thought I was the one who gave it to you, darling. You know... last night?”

If you look very closely you can see a light pink tint on his cheeks

“May I inquire about the one on your neck, Y/N?”

Obviously, your plan had backfired, and now you were the one flustered

Hikaru Hitachiin

Hikaru gets flustered pretty easily (but 50/50 chance on playing it off)

So you take this opportunity to your advantage

Kaoru was the one to point it out

“Hikaru, who gave you that hickey? Is there... someone else you love besides me?”

That definitely got the ladies all riled up

“No, Kaoru.. it’s not a hickey, just a bruise.”

Kaoru didn’t believe him

Neither did the ladies

Once the girls left, Hikaru’s S/O walked in the door, spotting him and sitting on the couch beside him and his brother

Easily flustered, though he can’t play it off

He was in class when Haruhi and Renge pointed it out

He could’ve sworn the class went dead silent after that comment

He also could have sworn he covered it up before he arrived at school

“W-what? This thing? No! Hikaru and I got into a fight and he accidentally punched me there! Whoops!”

Once you walked into class, you were BOMBARDED with questions

“Hey Y/N, is that a hickey? Did you give that to him?”

He looked at you with pleading eyes as if he was begging for you to get him out of the situation

You decided to ignore it

You gasped, “Kaoru! Who gave that to you? Was it Hikaru?”

The class roared in laughter

Even Hikaru joined in on the fun

“Wasn’t me, which one of you did it?”

It turned into a game almost

Once you two got out of class, you handed him some concealer

“Here, baby, don’t forget to cover it up next time.”

Right. Like he’d let there be a next time after that stunt you just pulled

He’s stone-cold like Kyoya, he just doesn’t acknowledge the teasing and questions from everyone

Honey was the first to point it out, not surprisingly

“Takashi? Why do you have a big bruise right there? Did someone hurt you? Do you want Usa-Chan to kiss and make it feel better?”

“It’s nothing, Mitsukuni.”

Honey immediately went to find you, Mori’s S/O. He’s not fully convinced that someone didn’t hurt him, so he dragged you over to where he and Mori stood

“Y/N-Chan! Did someone hurt Takashi? Look! There’s a big bruise right there! It must hurt!”

“Oh no,” you repressed a smirk as your pointer finger gently ran across the hickey, “did that hurt?”

“No.”

“Oh, good, because you seemed to enjoy it last night.”

Honey was still clueless

Mori slightly smiled before looking at you. You knew this wasn’t going to end in your favor

“Yeah. And you seemed to enjoy giving it to me.”

A blush arose across your cheeks

“Wait, did Y/N-chan hurt you, Takashi?”

You giggled at Honey’s innocence

Mitsukuni Haninozuka

It was a small, but dark-colored hickey, so it was pretty noticeable

Tamaki was the one to say something

He was bringing over plates of cake to Honey and two clients.

His S/O, was sitting right next to him

“Honey-senpai, where’d you get that bruise?”

The girls looked up from their teacups before asking questions

“Yeah, I see that now.” “I was wondering what it was too, but I didn’t want to say anything.”

Honey was quick to explain

“Oh! This was just from a fight between Chika-chan and I, it’s nothing you ladies need to worry about!”

The girls were satisfied with that statement, but you weren’t

“Oh, really,” you started to tease him, “I thought Chika-chan was out of town for a tournament.”

A pink tint set across Honey’s face, he whined before whispering to you

“Y/N-Chan! I can’t tell them it was from you!”

The ladies’ ears perked up

“What was from Y/N?”

This is where he got flustered

U-uh nothing! Me and Usa-Chan got into a nasty fight earlier since he took the last piece of cake, so he kicked me, that’s why the bruise is so little!”

You could not believe he came up with that response very quickly

But he was adorable, so you let it slide this time
