i love making up names for characters who we only get the partial names of. nadia dolorosa du pont you are the people's princess of traitor characters <3333 i forgive you for choosing sister thurrocks as your parish name bc even though it sounds kind of ugly, you sure did try to be a port town on the banks of this unforgiving estuary <3333 you tried to be the hold of this ship <333 and you failed so bad <33333 and don't get me started on my hypothetical val names list, which is just me listing off famous sacrificed martyrs. my "what the fuck is faulkner's last name" list grows by the hour. a possible last names for mercer and gage list will get written down. i'll give carpenter's parents names and you can't stop me <333

I've started listening to the Silt Verses because of your posts (thank you for convincing me!). I love it so much as a concept, but... Does the audio quality get better as the show goes on? I already have audio processing issues, and their sound design is just so hard for me to understand. I've never seen anyone say bad things about the audio, so I'm not sure if it's a Spotify-specific thing? The background noise is so much louder than the speech, which I assume is a stylistics choice until things that shouldn't be loud drown out what anyone's saying.
Yes, in fact!!!!
I didn't realize until I started my relisten but... yeah the audio quality in season 1 is rough. It was surprising to realize on the relisten because, in my opinion, season 3's audio quality and sound production is excellent. So jumping from finishing s3 back to the start of s1 made it pretty obvious.
I haven't really picked up on when the change happens, or if it's just gradual, but early season 1 is the roughest part.
And if my own context is helpful, I've been listening to it on my airpods usually with noise-cancelling mode on. So I'm not sure if it sounds different through, say, laptop speakers.

Sexiest Podcast Character 2024 — Scripted Undefeated Bracket — Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Sister Carpenter (The Silt Verses):
The Best one-liners and mic drops around, nothing sexier than a crisis of faith, unwavering commitment to saving everyone has all the panties dropping, certified milf
She's tall. She's aro.* She was raised in a cult and got sent on a pilgrimage for said cult and told her god to go fuck himself. She loves pancakes.
#we have no idea if she’s ace #but she IS the sexiest character in this poll tournament
Doug Eiffel (Wolf 359):
man with long hair + lots of body hair + nicotine addiction + aura of cringefail #is v attractive to me sorryyy
#EIFFEL! #vote eiffel everyone #my boy <3 #my awful girldad <3
#DOUGLAS EIFFEL #YEAHHHH GO CRINGEFAIL PEACEKEEPER
Additional propaganda below the cut:
Sister Carpenter (The Silt Verses):
*Originally this propaganda said she was aroace, but two people have corrected that to say she's only confirmed aro.
This is propaganda for all the female characters. Voters please remember how pretty all women are and factor that into every single vote you make. Thank you.
Doug Eiffel (Wolf 359):
he's hot. dilf. silly. yeah.
#DOUG! DOUG FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!
#doug eiffel is one of the only characters in this tournament i genuinely find attractive godbless 🙏 #(<- /acespec not /passive aggressive to be clear)
I don't really remember anything about Wolf 359 since I only listened to a few episodes so I'm throwing my lot in with whoever has the most compelling/funniest propaganda. I think this would be funny and I commit to nothing if not the bit

This campaign does have wizards aplenty, from our allies and guests (let's hope someone can fix Ryn; wonder how Vasselheim is treating Prism) to the antagonistic figure of the millennium himself, Ludinus Da'leth. And Halas is, of course, still in his gem. I have briefly touched on them, in fact, when they converged upon Tishtan to fuck around and find out. But this isn't about them.
Whose world is at stake here? Who is being shaken at their very foundation? Who is out here kicking ass, taking names, making pacts, and killing birds? And so it's my dubious and self-inflicted honor to present:
The Cleric and Paladin Breakdown Tracker
Episode 69
(nice)
The rules, for those not familiar with the shifting set of guidelines I frequently employed: this is a non-exhaustive list (that means that if I don't have anything funny to say about an NPC we haven't seen in 20 episodes do not ask me where they are. they haven't been seen in 20 episodes). Spinoffs into sorcerer, druid, or other territory may occur as the plot demands, but for the time being we're sticking with the god squad.
Weva Vudol: Matt described her genesis as a person who abides by the Andrew W. K. creed; she does what she likes and she likes what she does. While adherents of the Raven Queen are probably having a rough time of it, no resurrection does mean Speak with Dead is probably having a real moment right now, and honestly she's weird enough to possibly dig the vibes of Jrusar at the moment. 4/10.
Deanna Leimert: It's been a few days but I suspect things are still highly tense between her and Sunny D, and going to God City Central probably doesn't give her much time to relax and regroup. Also I have to imagine Vasselheim is going to be MAD WEIRD about an aeormaton and a wizard. 7/10. Holding it together but I bet any stitches of her knitting right now are impossibly tight (if that's how knitting works idk I'm a crocheter myself)
FRIDA: Speaking of, here's the aeormaton themself! They were feeling bad upon separating from FCG. They needn't have worried (see below) but they don't know that, and yeah I think the vibes in Vasselheim for them are going to be iffy already and the fact that the city is (highly understandably given their history) going into lockdown, probably a bit on edge! Hopefully Bells Hells remembers to ask Keyleth to give them a message or something. 7/10. (She's not on here but I like to think that Prism is THRIVING despite having frowned-upon magic. I think she's having a GREAT time, and I hope she joins the Slayer's Take, I think it would be good for her.)
Unnamed Duskmaven Cleric in Jrusar: I do not know why the Duskmaven clerics dress like Sofina Honoramongthievesvillain, but they do. Anyway rather like Weva Vudol, while things are bad I think that the Raven Queen's clerics tend to have a sort of implacable calm about them (see also Lieve'tel, who is not on this list). 4/10.
Teven Klask: Too hot to be bothered. A little confused by the edicts of Asmodeus re: the truce though. Just like a Betrayer to not explain the situation. 3/10.
Yu Suffiad: I love when people think Yu was some kind of genius of strategy because not only did they get figured out by a tiny unhinged werewolf gnome man, they, far more crucially, bargained away the artifact needed to power the Malleus Key until after the solstice. Literally their entire mission was "hey we need this object before the solstice, to be used in a machine on the solstice, for the solstice" and they were like yeah I'll get it in a month, sounds fair, and then the people they let get away destroyed the machine that was supposed to use it. Anyway with that in mind I'm assuming their dumb ass got shoved into a mirror by Zathuda, whom I would like to see again, because the return of the Silt Verses has reminded me that menace in a Scottish accent is always a fun time. 9/10.
FCG: You know, bit of a rollercoaster for them! He's had some good Commune answers and some less so Divination answers; he can't get drunk; the Staff of Dark Odyssey did NOT play nice; Dancer's still understandably afraid of him; Shithead has finally been lay to rest. I think it's going to be straight down the middle for a while, honestly; such is the nature of adventuring. 5/10.
Pike Trickfoot: Zero idea of her mood right now actually, like I assume Sarenrae has been freaking out but that's the extent of it, so she's here more because either she is blissfully unaware that Delilah was below detectable levels when Laudna came back, in which case like 4/10, or she has been harboring a dark secret in which case more like 8/10.
Jester Lavorre: SENDING IS DOWN THIS IS THE WORST THING THAT COULD EVER HAPPEN 10/10
Caduceus Clay: I have to imagine the Wildmother has made her concerns clear. Also, Molaesmyr was, when last we left it, sort of on fire, which can't be like, great for him. Time to see if 7 years have improved upon his coping mechanisms. 7/10.
Fjord: Improbably, a wildcard. Given that Jester's probably freaking out, pushed into a position of stability and calm; given that the gods are definitely freaking out, the Empire is wilding out, and also that I would be shocked if Caleb and Beau didn't let the others in the Nein know that if they don't hear from them for a while, pushed in a position of running around waving his hands like Kermit. 6/10 but specifically taken as an average of 3/10 and 9/10.
Vax'ildan: technically I don't know if he still counts like a paladin but doing so for reasons of comedy. Anyway, not sure what you can give a bowling ball full of screams but an 11/10.

K for the fandom ask game <3
- love, Adler xx
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
As I'm currently with The Silt Verses on the brain as per the ending of the last ask, I'm gonna go with my boy Hayward.
I HATED his ass the first season. Legitimately I wanted him dead. But since his past and personality started being explored in season two he's become one of my favorites.
But yeah his arc goes from being the literal personification of the status quo in this world (a cop chasing down our protagonists who doesn't necessarily believe what he's doing either but follows what's expected of him simply because he doesn't particularly want to become god food) to someone who is not only willing to die for but pioneering an anti-sacrificial way of life. Also his and Paige's relationship is everything to me, and I just KNOW their ending will devastate me. When the horror tragedy horror tragedies am I right

for the ask thing, 3, 11, 18 with Mab?
From this post!
I already did 11 here
3. State some things you’d like to hear in the next show you listen to and let your follower recommend things to you.
Oooh, I'd love to hear something that really just trusts its audience to roll with what they're doing, if that makes sense? Like don't get me wrong, as the creator of a show that says very very clearly, "Here is the premise, here is the energy, you don't have to follow anything too complicated" and sticks with it, I also looove it when a story just chucks you in the deep end and lets you catch up. I had that experience with The Silt Verses and to an extent with Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature, though I felt like the latter lost faith in me a little as it went on haha But yeah, hmu with your clever, tricky stories!
18. Design an outfit for Mab
OMG I am not at all the best person for this so I'm going to tag @aestheticcluttercore and see if Sophie B. has any suggestions. Mostly I think Mab dresses like Elton John crossed with Dolly Parton.

Happy #AudioDramaSunday dear wanderers! This week at work had way fewer meetings which meant more podcast time
Starting off the week, I had a relisten to the entirety of the Technomancy Project because I have a problem <3 I love the Technomancy Project so much and will likely relisten again soon
Also Jason *does* say gods instead of god throughout all of season 1 and I never noticed because *I* say gods instead of god because that's just who I am as a person
I missed a clue
Because of my linguistic choices
And I have no regrets
@re-dracula is continuing its incredible journey and I feel so bad for Lucy. It doesn't matter that I know what happens to her. Hearing Beth Eyre voice Lucy is cutting directly into my soul
Episodes 5 and 6 of @doyoucopypod have made me feel EMOTIONS. Episode 5 in particular made me cry. At my desk. At work. Cody Heath has made me cry with this show TWICE. And I wouldn't have it any other way
Patreon access for @malevolentcast was released this week and yeah. YEAH. I will be screaming about it more once public release has happened but its one hell of an episode (as they all are)
And of course we had the @EthicsTownPod season finale. Louis Hendry has created a crazy fucked up world (affectionate) and I'm obsessed with it. Liz Dokukina and Rhys Lawton absolutely punched me in the chest with the finale (and with the whole season) PLEASE listen to Ethics Town
Last on my listen list was episode 1 of The Silt Verses and hooooooboy I'm already so in love with it. Its been on my list for ages and both Tay and Tot told me to listen to it got moved up and yeah
YEAH
This is my foreseeable future
I believe in MĂŠabh de BrĂşn supremacy <3
Just a reminder that the incredible @chainofbeing is crowdfunding for season 2! They're 18% of the way to their goal with 22 days left
I adored season 1 of COB and know Cai is going to do incredible and wild things with season 2
And the cast is to die for
Here on the Fringes cast members are sending over their audio and im working on editing some bonus content
Season 2 is well underway and I can't wait for yall to hear it!
That's all for this week! Next week will be more Silt Verses and probably another COB relisten because im hyped for season 2 (please please PLEASE back the crowdfunder if you can they deserve the WORLD and if we can't give them that we can at least get them funded)

omg so glad you thought the same about twv!! I just finished and so many different parts of the last episode made me so mad, idk if they're trying for a season 6 (even after saying this is the finale) but I'm not going to listen anymore. if you have recs for similar podcasts i would rly love them
lol I’m glad some people enjoyed my incandescent rage. Like. Woof.
I’m so sorry you had to sit through that finale. And baiting a new show just. Doesn’t do anything for me. There are so many ways TWV fell short and didn’t follow through that there is absolutely no way that I believe another show by the same writers will do any better. So handshake through the screen, Anon; I am sharing and understanding your problem.
As for recommendations, I like horror podcasts, but I usually like cosmic horror and folk horror best—which is a slightly different flavor of horror usually? Also a lot of the horror that I like is in book form. But for podcast recs, You’ve probably heard all of the ones I like, but here are some ones that I did enjoy:
-The Silt Verses: folk horror. Only one season is currently out. You get a lot of religious trauma, evil capitalism, and mythology somewhere in between nielman and Old Gods of Appalachia. A lot of old gods and their religions have been banned by the government. Two disciples of one of these illegal gods, a river god, are traveling the river looking for evidence of their god’s miracles and existence. The god itself, like All of the gods in this world, is horrifying and requires human sacrifice, the two disciples are both serial killers; and the state-sanctioned gods and the police sent after these disciples are Even Worse.
-The Magnus Archives: Cosmic horror/horror tragedy. Everyone and their dog seems to have listened to this but yeah. I’ve listened to it at least 3 times through. Very very good at not answering every possible question but knowing what questions need answering and answering those. Favorite. Also, I enjoy that it is and was always intended to be a horror tragedy, but that one character became So Powerful in personality and beliefs that they changed the way the author wrote the end. And capitalism is evil.
-Old Gods of Appalachia: LOVE this one. Cosmic horror/folk horror anthology. Capitalism is Definitely Evil. Really, really good understanding of the people and culture it draws from—which makes it feel kind of like home. Lots of angry and powerful women, lots of nuance, fantastic environment, Yuri Lowenthal was there?
-Alice Isn’t Dead: Surreal horror/cosmic horror. Creepy Americana. A woman thinks her wife is dead and then starts to see her in the background on the news, and then becomes a truck driver for the company the wife worked for in order to search for her. A complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. Good at knowing which questions to answer. Capitalism is evil. Human beings are hard.
-Hello From the Hallowoods: This show is so /comforting/ despite the horrible things that happen in it that it’s almost strange to call it horror. But it still is. It’s just a very kind horror podcast. This is fantasy horror and cosmic horror. The world changed and began to end when a cosmic horror-type god (an Indescribable) who was then killed, introduced a black rain and black water that killed a lot of life and has altered the rest. The dead rarely stay dead; but they come back changed. There are Monsters in the poisoned world. And a lot of the monsters are just people. A lot of the human people are monsters in disguise. The generation that saw the black rain start is in late middle-age and the children were born into this world. There’s a Huge cast, pretty much every character is queer, pretty much every character is nuanced, and there’s So Much Religious Trauma. Also, capitalism is evil; most of North America (at LEAST) was run by a company whose goal is to have all humans become their ‘customers’ whose bodies are protected while their minds exist in a sort of shared-dream world that was heavily marketed even before the world ended. There’s a huge rotating cast (including undead romance, undead robots, demons trying to defect from Hell, a girl trying to rescue her disappeared girlfriend and her kidnapped-by-capitalism mom, an invisible man, a forest-based commune under attack by evolving frogs, and a sentient car). Everything is narrated by an Extremely Invested and extremely comforting Indescribable whose domain is Watching Everything.
-Welcome to Nightvale. Guys, the show has run longer than it should have. It ran into problems when it started to try to answer some of its many long-running questions that shouldn’t have been answered; and the answers were so much less compelling than the questions. It sort of ossified eventually. BUT. The first several years of this show? Were amazing. This is the Foundation of modern narrative podcasts, and the father of queer podcasts. It’s the reason this medium is so much more diverse than others. This is surreal horror/horror comedy. And the first several years give you an Incredible Environment, occasional real fear, and /The/ Narrator (you don’t GET Jon Sims or Nikigkik or even Doug Eiffel without Cecil Palmer! You just Don’t). I think everyone should listen to this show, at least all of the way through the Strex Corp arc. Capitalism is evil, community is everything.
Honorable Mentions go to:
-I am In Eskew: surreal horror/cosmic horror. Sometimes a person just ends up in this incredibly fucked-up city. This isn’t my favorite kind of horror. But. It was well-written, is a complete story, and it was interesting. It raised some questions that I thought were left too open-ended. But the main character’s arc was told so thoroughly and completely, that I’ll forgive it. The confusing and unfinished vibes are confused and unfinished and bigger-than-the-story like Neverwhere*. If Neverwhere was surreal horror about an environment/city/genius locus that wants to just completely break your mind. Capitalism is still evil.
-Wolf 359: Sci-fi horror/thriller. Starts off as an episodic sci-fi comedy with off notes. Becomes a horror-thriller. Not my favorite brand of horror; some of the plot gets a little convoluted for me; but I did really like the character work. Capitalism is still evil.
*Neverwhere is one of my favorite books ever though. So the vibe isn’t what I didn’t love. It’s just the genre
Anon, again, I’m very sorry; and I hope you find something much better to listen to next.
If anyone else has recs for Anon, please chime in!

So I'm not the anon who asked, but I'm near the end of the bright sessions s3 and I 100% agree that it's a bit tame? Like the characters are interesting enough i guess but the story isn't really doing it for me, so can I be a pain and ask for some recs? 👉👈 (I've listened to tma, wolf 359, juno steel, and I'm mid-way through the mistholme museum)
Not a pain at all! Yeah TBS is a little lacklustre in its ending, so here’s some other suggestions -
They’re not terribly similar to TBS, but my personal favs is Kane and Feels - weird you’ll-love-it-or-hate-it show about two paranormal detectives in London with incredible banter
Maybe more up your alley though is Death by Dying, it’s a 5 episode dark comedy (and tragedy) about an obituary writer in a small town.
If you liked TMA for the beautiful horror monologuing try The Silt Verses, if you liked it for fan content and that good gay shit try Hello From The Hallowoods
And the W359 team have a fun little 3 episode show called Time Bombs you’ll probably enjoy!
Hope you find something there that works for you!

my sister was talking about wizard ghost book with me, and was like ‘I know there’s like 7 gay tragedies, but the most canon ones, the nice ones, (she was meaning wangxian and songxiao) both have the surviving person in the couple become the caretaker for the other one’s kid. And I really like that’
And she’s right. It’s a parallel I hadn’t noticed. You can’t not pay attention to LWJ raising WWX’s child while he’s dead. But Song Lan doesn’t just take the shattered fragments of his partner’s soul. He’s given (as if it’s the most natural thing to do) the shattered fragments of his partner’s kid’s soul too. And his stated goal is to safeguard both of them, take care of both of them, figure out a way to repair both of them get both of them back. He doesn’t have any promise he’s getting either of them; but he takes them both. He knew A-Qing for like 4 minutes before death, but that’s his kid now too.
I don’t know where I was going with this, I just saw that official art with Song Lan and the shadows of XXC and A-Qing and started typing at light speed

mxtx was so fucking baller for making the sex in svsss so bad. the meta deconstructing sex to save the world + why sex with the parody of an archetypical character in LBH model would suck but also just being 25-30+ with zero (0) experience. also it's just king shit to have the only sex in your romance novel be just the worst. legend.
