Banging wakes Yoongi at an hour when, frankly, no one should be awake. By the time he manages to untangle himself from the bed sheets and stumble out of his room, he’s got half a hex rattling around his head, ready to curse whoever has him up before the sun into next week.

The spell dies on his lips when he yanks the door open to Taehyung, standing on his lintel and looking at him with such abject despair Yoongi fears the world might be ending. Panic churns in his gut.

“Tae? What's wrong?”

“Hyung,” says Taehyung miserably, and he raises his hands. Cupped in his palms is a tiny, miserable looking rabbit. “Help.”

Yoongi looks at Taehyung, then at the rabbit, then back at Taehyung, panic easing into more of a flat, tired concern.

“What?”

“It’s Jiminie.”

Yoongi looks at the rabbit again. The rabbit blinks at him. Tae blinks at him too, for good measure.

Yoongi sighs and steps back. “I guess you’d better come in.”

He gets most of the story as he fixes them both something to drink—tea for Tae, coffee for himself. The sky outside is just starting to go peach with morning. It’s clearly been a long night for Taehyung (and Jimin, probably) and it’s about to be a long morning for him, and the caffeine is both warranted and welcome. Yoongi feels a little more human, sitting at his table with something warm cradled between his palms.

“But I don’t understand why,” Taehyung bemoans as he finishes explaining something about a dare and a new spell book and the heart’s hidden desire. “Jiminie’s never mentioned wanting to be a rabbit before. Or any kind of animal! Even if he is sort of small and cute. Ouch, Jimin-ah.”

The rabbit kicks its foot and lets go of Taehyung’s hand. Taehyung rubs his thumb where Jimin—and Jimin is a rabbit, sweet secret sisters, how is Yoongi going to explain that one to Namjoon—bit him.

“Jimin-ah,” sighs Yoongi. “Don’t bite.”

Jimin wrinkles his little rabbit nose and turns his back to Yoongi and flops down in the most passive aggressive show of ease Yoongi’s ever seen.

“I just don’t know what to do,” says Taehyung. His hair is in disarray, and his eyes are easily as wide and liquid as the rabbit’s, and Yoongi will admit, it tugs his heartstrings. Taehyung generally tugs his heartstrings, maybe, but this is a lot. He hasn’t even had his coffee.

“Do you have the book?” he tries, bringing his cup up to his chin and breathing deep. “Maybe the spell says something.”

He doesn’t have much hope. Heart spells are the most finicky, and half the witches writing them don’t have a clue how to undo them after. There’s a reason curse-breakers are still in business, and it’s mostly thanks to teenage romantics.

And grown up romantics, honestly. Who doesn’t dream of love? Even Yoongi, sometimes, he— Well.

“Yes,” says Taehyung, already reaching down to dig through his bag, “but that’s the thing that doesn’t make sense.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, we didn’t cast the spell on Jimin,” he says. “We cast it on me.”

He drops the book on the table. It a thick, ugly tome, grimoire dark with a cracked spine and yellowing pages. Yoongi raises both eyebrows, and Taehyung has the grace to look sheepish.

“We did check with Joon-hyung, and he said it wasn’t cursed or anything. It’s just old.”

“Sure.” Yoongi doesn’t ask where they found it. He doesn’t want to know. “Which page?”

Taehyung flips it open and it falls straight to the spell in question, the spine creased with use. A popular one then. That’s promising—if it’s dangerous, there’s likely someone out there who knows how to fix it.

Although, just from a glance, it doesn’t seem particularly troublesome. Yoongi turns the book to get a better view as he skims the spell. No secondary clauses, no blood or matter sacrifices. Just a run-of-the-mill speak your wish and discover the secrets of your heart sort of thing. Honestly, Yoongi’s a little surprised it did anything at all, especially anything so powerful as a transmutation.

The trouble is, Yoongi hasn’t the foggiest idea what to do about it. It's almost too simple.

“We really didn’t think it would be that bad,” Taehyung says after a minute. He’s got one hand around his mug, fingers long and elegant, and the other scratching behind Jimin’s ears as he purrs. Yoongi didn’t even know rabbits could purr.

They make a nice picture. Yoongi’s heart feels what it always does when confronted with the nice picture they make: some terrible mix of joy for the love in Taehyung’s life and resignation that it’s not him. He braces himself against it, as he always does, and drinks his coffee.

“Tae-yah,” he says gently, though the gentleness is more for his own sake than for Taehyung. “Why are you here?”

“I need help with Jiminie.”

“But why me?”

“What?”

Yoongi shrugs and scratches at his jaw. “Hobi’s a better curse breaker. And Joon’s read everything. I can’t do what they do.” He shrugs again. “So why are you here?”

“Cause.” Taehyung looks at him like he’s particularly slow. “Cause I always— Y’know. When I don’t know. And you’re—" There’s a furrow between his brow as he swipes his bangs out of his face. “I mean, whenever I— And you always— Oh.”

Yoongi likes to think, generally speaking, he’s pretty good at keeping up with Taehyung when he does this. Sure, he’s not Jimin, but no one is, and in terms of speaking Taehyung he does pretty alright, most of the time.

He has no fucking clue what’s going through his head right now.

“What,” he says.

“Oh.” Taehyung’s stopped petting Jimin, and he’s put his tea down, and he’s staring at Yoongi with such stark, bright attention that Yoongi can’t hold his gaze. "Oh, hyung."

“What,” he says again, mostly mumble, eyes falling down to his coffee because it’s easier to look at the steam coiling through the air than at than Taehyung. So he startles when Taehyung’s hand snakes across the table to grab his, and then suddenly Taehyung is out of his chair and standing next to him, wild and electric.

“Hyung,” he says more insistently. “That’s it.”

“What’s it?”

“You,” he says. “I always come to you.”

“Taehyung,” he says, and the what the fuck are you talking about gets lost in the sudden shock of Taehyung leaning down to kiss him.

For a moment, it’s all-consuming—Taehyung’s mouth, Taehyung’s fingers around his, the smell of him and his warmth and the slight weight as he leans his other hand on Yoongi’s shoulder—and then he’s swaying in stationary free fall as Taehyung pulls back.

“Taehyung-ah,” he says, a little stupid. He doesn’t know what else to say. His heart thrums in his chest and he feels sort of electrocuted, but in a good way.

Above him, Taehyung wrinkles his nose. “You taste like coffee, hyung.”

Yoongi looks at him and then down at their entwined fingers and then back up at Taehyung, who’s beaming despite his complaints.

“What the fuck,” he says.

“Yeah,” says Jimin, flopped awkwardly over the table and suddenly, gracelessly human again. “What the fuck.”

Taehyung laughs and whoops and pumps his fist, which is a little tricky because he’s still holding Yoongi’s hand and doesn't seem interested in relinquishing it. Not that Yoongi minds. Hand holding is nice. But— What?

“It worked!! It was supposed to help me find my heart’s desire and it did!”

Oh. Oh. Yoongi looks at Taehyung, glowing, and feels himself go pink. “Ah.”

“What a great spell,” Taehyung enthuses. “Hyung, did you know I like you so much?”

“You turned me into a rabbit for that?” demands Jimin, clambering off the table. He’s wearing one of Jungkook’s pink bunny headbands, which might have something to do with it. “We didn’t need a spell for that. I could have told you. Anyone could have told you. Everyone knows.”

“I didn’t know,” Yoongi says, sort of to protest, sort of because— Well. He didn’t.

Taehyung turns to him with wide eyes, as though it's some great failure that Yoongi doesn't know something no one has ever bothered to say to him.

"He's right," Taehyung nods. “You’re the coolest and the smartest. And you always make me feel better. Obviously I’d come here if there was a problem. It just makes sense.”

“Oh,” says Yoongi. “That’s— Good. You should.”

“Gross,” says Jimin over at the counter, pouring himself a cup of coffee. He’s got one of Yoongi’s travel mugs, and Yoongi would protest except he can’t seem to stop thinking about Taehyung holding his hand and also kissing him long enough to be bothered. “You’re both gross. And dumb. Yoongi-hyung, Tae’s liked you for forever. Taehyungie, you’re an idiot. Turn Jungkook into a rabbit next time.” He takes a sip of his coffee and then grins at them both, beatific. “You’re both really cute though. Have fun.”

Then he’s gone in a puff of a transportation rune, leaving Yoongi alone with Taehyung, who hasn’t stopped grinning.

“Jimine’s right,” he says, unconcerned that Jimin has also called him an idiot. “I like you a lot.”

“I like you a lot too,” says Yoongi. “I didn’t think you liked me this much.”

“I do. I just didn’t realize it. Sorry."

"That's okay. You didn't have to."

"Yes but I wanted to. Obviously. That's why I did the spell."

"Well then." Yoongi's tongue is unwieldy in his mouth. "Now you know."

"Yeah." His wild grin softens into something sweeter. "Now I know. And we can— Maybe we can figure out what it means? Um, together?"

Yoongi hums and squeezes his hand and brings it up to his mouth to press a kiss to the backs of his knuckles. "Yeah, Taehyung-ah. We can figure it out together."

I did not pull that hope out of my ass because I don't "get" SPN.

Dabb and Singer set their trap and I ate the cheese and they sprung the trap. Perhaps the hope was there just to make it hurt worse, to make us feel (because sometimes creatives lose sight of the fact there is more than one way to make people feel) when that grim prophecy got fulfilled instead of being overturned.

Anyway Dean's story isn't over. *raises glass* Here's to the revival. No, I don't expect any retcons. Heaven storyline's not going away. But something more fulfilling than what aired for the series finale, I can go for that.

it's sound weird, but i have headcanon that Hunter didn't go hexside, because he too old to shool(according to my feelings, at the end of the he is 16-17 y.o (except for the post-credits scene), and at that age it is already too late to go to school):p

i mean, well- in my opinion he rather certainly did go to hexside, since one of the things he'd said during his TTT monologue was "i'd like to attend hexside like a normal student and play flyer derby with my friends" and all of his "wishes" were supposed to sort of foreshadow his goals and his future (carving palismen, studying wild magic, etc etc) so i feel like it's safe to say he succeeded in becoming a hexside student as well. we also know he attended grom with the rest of his friend group, and like- since he's 16 before the timeskip (no canon certainty whether he's recently turned 16 or is going on 17 already though, but like... around 16 canonically) that means he'd get at least 1 year of school, but most likely 2+.

my personal headcanon is that he went to hexside for around 2 years (full or not quite, depending on when the school year starts in the boiling isles and how long it lasts; possibly even 3), and during that time he picked up a mentorship/apprenticeship at del's palisman carving shop, and after he graduated from hexside he started carving palismen professionally with the clawthornes (i like to think that he also takes some courses at eda's wild magic university in his spare time, simply cuz . funny uni hexsquad shenanigans)

i will be in permanent agony next year when marc squeezes pecco like a bug, unless it happens aragón 2021 style, where the unstoppable force (marc) meets an immovable object (passing pecco bagnaia), and marc has to really throw everything at it to come out on top. mostly because marc has a twinkle in his eyes when he looks at pecco, like he sees some sort of a challenge he’d enjoy to take on, and pecco just refuses to look at him 💀

also, martin said pecco plays the most amount of mind games, and i need to see that in 2025 before coming to a conclusion, otherwise it’s just jorge writing fanfiction about bagnaia as the ultimate bad guy of his life (i get it, jorge, next time pecco dnf’s i’ll choose to start stanning you, unlike the ducati bosses)

I think pecco does play mind games! admittedly if you're setting the standard at 'valentino', sure, he's pretty harmless, but pretty much every top level athlete will do a little of this! he does put some thought into how to manage expectations, what he's saying about his own chances and his opponents' chances going into weekends, that kind of thing. generally he might not outright attack his rivals, but he's not opposed to dropping the occasional snide remark. that being said, of course it's quite funny and revealing that jorge zeroed in on pecco as the mind games guy. pecco's very much his personal antagonist... such a good figure to externalise all those knotty feelings of being under-valued and under-appreciated and underrated... it's fairly natural that if you're fighting someone for a title, you get a bit of tunnel vision for them, so it's not that surprising a pick from martin. still fun! I absolutely buy martin's built pecco up a bit too much in his mind, is prone to reading malice into stuff where it probably wasn't intended on pecco's part. sometimes you end up playing mind games on yourself and the other guy doesn't really need to contribute

anyway, about the pecco/marc thing - yeah, look, obviously marc is the favourite in that title battle. that being said, if you look at marc's historical record, I wouldn't be all that surprised if aragon 2021 and jerez this year aren't the outliers. it's completely plausible marc wins that teammate battle quite comfortably but continues to lose in their actual one-on-one duels... because that did often happen during his prime. in 2013, sure, he won that early battle in jerez (which was just kinda building throughout to that one overtake), but he lost the rematch at silverstone. 2014 is the one where he was just kinda winning everything - so this one's kinda the exception, where he might lose some scraps like brno and misano but the extended battles in qatar, mugello, silverstone all go his way. from then on, the most memorable one-on-one duels with his big rivals are pretty often not working out in his favour. 2015 obviously a few with valentino, though he also doesn't win the title there so let's skip that, but 2016? the two duels everyone remembers from that year are mugello and catalunya - both go against him, both are defeats inflicted by his two main title rivals in jorge and valentino respectively, but it doesn't matter because afterwards the rest of the season goes his way. 2017 you've got austria and motegi where he takes on dovi and loses both times - but it doesn't change the momentum of the season and marc still wins in the end. 2018 doesn't really have a title fight, but again he's losing austria to jorge (before winning thailand so that's something). 2019, again not really a title fight, but he loses austria and silverstone before winning a couple of duels against rookie fabio at misano and thailand. in both those seasons, he's not really being challenged for the title - but if you looked just at the duels, you'd think the competition was a lot closer than the reality

none of this is to say that marc is bad at wheel-to-wheel racing, because he very obviously is not. (which by the way you can tell the moment you stop looking just at one-on-one's and include dogfights - sure, he's not won all of them, but pi '15 pi '17 assen '18 are all super memorable for a reason.) it's just an interesting pattern in his career: when he gets himself involved in extended duels with a single rival, he loses quite frequently, but it still doesn't hurt his title campaign. that's excellent mental resilience! it does, however, show that he doesn't really build his title campaigns around those big dramatic victories, around inflicting a dramatic and demoralising defeat on his rival in one-to-one combat. in this sense, he is obviously different from valentino: for instance 2004 is a title campaign that was built entirely around that trio of races early in the season (mugello, catalunya, assen) where he reclaims the championship lead and dulls sete's confidence by winning successive tight one-to-one battles. (also of course 2008/09, but those almost feel too obvious to mention.) when you look at marc's title campaigns, what they really rely on more than anything else is... well, consistency. the fact that he's basically always fast - and that generally speaking, he's finding himself in last lap duels at circuits where he shouldn't be able to contend for the victory at the last lap in the first place. (obviously qatar and austria, but also for instance honda was having a rough one at misano 2019, which is traditionally one of his strongest tracks but can be quite quirky.) (just saying, misano's a really good pecco track too... wouldn't that be fun...) it's relentless, intimidating pace that he's using to win all those titles... if you look at the races that changed the momentum in his various title winning seasons, it's not actually ever one-on-one duels, it's races where he won or was even just on the podium where all his rivals for one reason or another weren't there. maybe jorge and dani are injured, or maybe his rivals are having some horror show flag-to-flag races, or maybe ducati's having an off-weekend, or maybe everyone who isn't marc just refuses to stop crashing, or maybe jorge's decided to skittle the field

with the one-on-one battles themselves, sometimes it's kind of like... 'okay, sure, you won, but the fact I was even there probably isn't great news for you'. this is what jerez this year was about, right - of course, that was an important win for pecco, but also the fact that marc is fighting with him this early into his ducati career on a year old bike is certainly... a concern. obviously marc does want to win those duels, but he does also seem pretty capable of bouncing back after losing them. some of them have bothered him, sure - the worst was probably assen 2015, where there was obviously a lot of other stuff going on... and because it was that bit of the year where he was finding his feet again with that honda and they headed to the sachsenring next, his on-track performances didn't take a hit. you can argue that argentina 2015 did negatively affect his results... but that was also just a bit of the panic of 'I need to make up points now' in response to his first real adversity in the premier class - and anyway, everyone knows that wasn't a perfect marc season, the point is he was a lot better at managing this stuff going forwards. in 2016 and 2017 in particular, he really does do an excellent job of taking these close defeats in his stride

this is a long way of saying, look, I could easily imagine a version of 2025 where pecco wins a dramatic duel against marc at catalunya and then another one at mugello, and yet marc still wins that season pretty comfortably. that's basically the season I'm expecting... I'd quite like to have something different, because honestly I do enjoy it when the on-track battles actually affect title fights a bit more substantially! that being said, marc definitely wants to beat pecco in a one-on-one duel (though I'm sure that lovely le mans last lap pass will have gone a long way towards cheering him up) - and hey, interpersonal emotional stakes are a lot of fun too. hopefully even if there isn't much of a title fight they can still snap at each other a bit... as a treat

for anon:  I kind of wish that someone would do gif sets of the Cleopatra exchange in The Wedding of River Song and also that The Doctor just says "Down girl" when River briefly gets sidetracked by Ramone in The Husbands of River Song.  I'm pretty sure that it's an open marriage but also wonder if they are averse to either seeing or knowing about other people even when they are actually eye to eye.  I feel like there's a great discussion to be unlocked about trust between them that supersedes other people.  Of course, if this is too naughty to bring up pretend I didn't say anything :)
