@here4hualian kissmas day 21: filial kiss
Hua Cheng stared down idiots one and two. They shuffled awkwardly for a moment before Mu Qing shoved Feng Xin forward slightly.
Feng Xin whipped around. “Why the fuck am I the one who has to tell him?!”
“It was your idea to bring Dianxia!” Mu Qing hissed.
“Yeah, but it was your mission! Besides, if anything Dianxia was the one to insist he come when he learned about the issue, so–”
“One of you had better tell me what happened to my husband before I lose my patience,” Hua Cheng cut in. After one more intense staring contest, Mu Qing finally gave in, rolling his eyes.
“Before you freak out, it’s not permanent. Apparently the longest it’s lasted is a week, and he isn’t hurt or anything…”
“Where. Is. He.”
Feng Xin reached into a pocket and pulled out… a stoat. He was small and white, easily resting in the palm of Feng Xin’s hand as he held him out towards Hua Cheng.
Hua Cheng stared. “You’re kidding.”
“Unfortunately, no.”
The stoat squeaked and made a nodding gesture at Feng Xin, who interpreted it as him wanting to go closer to Hua Cheng. Once he was close enough, he leapt from Feng Xin’s hand towards Hua Cheng, who caught him on instinct.
“Gege?”
The stoat, Xie Lian, nodded and nuzzled Hua Cheng’s hand.
Their job completed, Feng Xin and Mu Qing took the opportunity to escape back to the relative safety of heaven while Hua Cheng was distracted looking at the tiny (so small!) stoat version of his husband.
“Gege, really, how do you get yourself into these kinds of situations?” Hua Cheng asked helplessly.
Xie Lian managed something close to a shrug.
Hua Cheng chuckled and kissed his fuzzy little head, reaching into his pocket for his dice. “Let’s get you something to eat for now, then, and we can look more into this curse after.” Xie Lian squeaked in agreement, and with a roll of two sixes the pair was gone.

forever obsessed with the way hua cheng didn’t really intend to enter xie lian’s life. he just wanted to see him. check on him. was pleasantly surprised to have such a nice chat. i get the feeling that he just wanted to make true on the promise he made as a wisp—“I want to protect them. […] then I won’t let them know I’m protecting them either.”
then when they arrived at puqi shrine, he had every intention of leaving—he already did everything he intended to. it’s xie lian who invites him in and asks him to stay at the shrine.

Hua Cheng and Quan Yizhen get hit by a de-aging curse that turns them into their 10 year old selves. Naturally, Xie Lian and Yin Yu take care of them while investigating how to reverse it. Unfortunately, Hong-er and Quan Yizhen take to the other like two stray cats forcefully shoved inside a small cage, hissing and spitting and yowling and growling and beating the shit out of the other on sight. Yin Yu looks away for one second and suddenly Yizhen is pouncing on Hong-er, punching the daylights out of him. Hong-er rips a chunk of hair out of Yizhen, both get bitten, blood gets spilled. Yin Yu is panicking while he drags a screaming Quan Yizhen away. Xie Lian is this close 🤏🏻 to throwing Quan Yizhen into He Xuan's lair.
They don't know what to do. Hong-er poured ink down Quan Yizhen's back, Quan Yizhen threw a live mouse at Hong-er's face, Hong-er locked Quan Yizhen inside a chest and, in retaliation, Quan Yizhen pissed all over Hong-er's Dianxia portraits. Hong-er had a meltdown in Xie Lian's arms and Yin Yu had a panic attack, which in turn made Quan Yizhen hide for eight hours of desperate search until Yin Yu thought to look under his own bed (he was there.)
"Why do you fight Quan Yizhen?" Asks Xie Lian, and Hong-er answers that Quan Yizhen started it.
Yin Yu asks Quan Yizhen why did he attack Hong-er, and Yizhen frowns and answers: "I don't like him" and refuses to elaborate.
They are so sweet otherwise. Hong-er brings every flower he finds to Xie Lian, hands anxiously twisting the hem of his clothes every time as if this time Dianxia won't like them. One time while cooking, Xie Lian glanced back and caught Hong-er praying to him and felt himself melt on the spot. Quan Yizhen tries to help Yin Yu with everything (and fails spectacularly), asking every two seconds if he did good, and smiling and wiggling every time Yin Yu tells him that yes, that was perfect Yizhen.
After a week of incidents, crying, screaming, broken vases and sleepless nights. Xie Lian, tired and desperate, brings them together to end this misery once and for all. He asks Quan Yizhen directly, and the boy doesn't answer, he asks again with a softer tone. Quan Yizhen frowns and kicks him on the shin, hard enough to make him stagger. Xie Lian is very impressed by that and doesn't see Hong-er in time to catch him before he attacks Quan Yizhen, clawing his face and screaming. Yizhen kicks and bites, thankfully forgetting all his martial training as they grapple on the floor. And while Xie Lian and Ruoye do their best to subdue them, Yin Yu stares at them as an horrible epiphany wacks him on the back of his head.
"Your highness," Yin Yu whispers, "that night, before Chengzu saw you, he panicked and tried to run away, so I picked him up... And he kicked me."
Xie Lian doesn't know whether to laugh or cry . "I take it Qi Ying saw it?"
Yin Yu nods miserably.
The next morning, Xie Lian coaxes Hong-er into apologizing to Yin Yu for kicking him, and Xie Lian explains Quan Yizhen Hong-er didn't mean it, he was just scared. Yin Yu, for his part, spent all night teaching Quan Yizhen a very long "I am sorry, your highness" speech, and makes him kowtow three times. Then he proceeds to do the same, both effectively groveling.
Xie Lian grimaces and interrupts the boy as he recites with a blank face and the enthusiasm of someone who's only doing this because his Shixiong asked.
"That's really too much..., there is no need,"
"I beg to differ, Your Highness," answers Yin Yu, still kneeling on the ground. He raises his head and glances at Hong-er.
Xie Lian really can't say anything to that.
Yin Yu nudges Yizhen, and the boy pulls out a golden bar from his sleeve and places it at Xie Lian's feet. "This Quan Yizhen uh.... Um... This Yizhen will... ah! This Yizhen swears to spend the rest of his days atoning for...! For his...?"
"Transgressions," whispers Yin Yu.
"Transgressions! And swears to keep others from laying their filth on His Highness' path, as this one once did. His Highness whims shall become this one's deeds. In penance, I place the West at your feet, Qi Ying's palace is at your service. And if this one's repentance cannot erase this one's grievous sins... Uhm... Give me a moment, I have a lot of rocks in here." Qua Yizhen rummages through his sleeve for a few seconds, and then triumphantly pulls out a dark box. "Found it! Um.. something something sins! In your hands I place the Waning Moon Officer's ashes-!"
"Yin Yu that's really not necessary!"
"It really is, your Highness," he says with a strained voice.
Quan Yizhen leaves the box on the floor, completely unaware of it's importance, and throws himself into Yin Yu's lap. "I did good, right? I only forgot one thing! Shixiong, Shixiong it came out right?"
Yin Yu sighs.
"Yes, Yizhen. You did well."
"That guy interrupted me in the end though, that was rude. Can we go?"
Yin Yu didn't know whether to laugh or cry or grab his shidi and find new employment under He Xuan.
Xie Lian shook his head, crouched and carefully took the box, placed it on Yin Yu's hands. He felt really fond of Yin Yu's earnestness, but truly, this was overkill (Yin Yu would beg to differ, and so would He Xuan if he was there, and so would Hua Cheng if he was 800 years older. As Hong-er though, he only agreed with his Highness because he didn't understand what the act meant. As it stood, he really wanted to push that other kid from a wall.)
Xie Lian waited until Yin Yu raised his head and said softly, yet firmly:
"Officer, I order you to guard this with utmost diligence. They belong to a dear friend of mine, who need not worry for his Shidi's wellbeing," Xie Lian smiled at Hong-er, who stopped glaring at the figures on the floor and smiled back. Not breaking eye contact with the boy, Xie Lian continued, enunciating each word clearly, "after all, said Shidi is also a dear friend, who always treated me with respect, and if something happened to him I'd be very, very sad."
Yin Yu stood up, holding Yizhen's hand in his and the box to his chest. He bowed, "This one apologizes for offending His Highness, this one knows his Highness to be kind and wise, and didn't mean to imply otherwise. This Waning Moon Officer shall do as his Highness commands,"
After that, the boys stop trying to kill the other on sight. And, after much coaxing and promises of candy and sparring sessions, they spend one peaceful hour interacting under the watchful gaze of the only people they cared about. The next day, they sat side to side. Quan Yizhen practicing kicks and Hong-er drawing, both tense in sullen silence. The day after that Quan Yizhen asks Hong-er to help him draw his Shixiong, and Hong-er accepts, both glance at the adults in the room for approval and smile giddily when they get it. The day after, Quan Yizhen teaches Hong-er how to throw a punch, and they mock fight until dinner time (which they eat separately,) . The day after that, the adults decide to leave them alone for exactly three minutes, they wait just outside the room, ear pressed to the door. At the minute mark, they hear the unfortunately familiar sound of two tiny boys doing their utmost best to brutally kill each other.
The day after that, the curse is broken.
Xie Lian takes Hua Cheng to Puqi shrine, desperate for some alone time with his husband. Though he misses Hong-er dearly, his husband's absence had been so painful that now he's drunk on giddy relief.
They work the fields, they make dinner together, and after they're done eating, Xie Lian asks what had been running through his mind.
"San Lang, you two were getting along so well, why did you start fighting again?"
Hua Cheng wrinkles his nose in a way that makes Xie Lian want to kiss him and says, "He didn't want to admit that Gege was better than Shixiong— I mean, Yin Yu. Ah Gege, don't make fun of your San Lang!" He whined.
Xie Lian did try to stop laughing, but not hard enough to accomplish it.
Once done, he wiped a tear and asked:
"Shixiong?"
Hua Cheng groaned.
"I didn't know what his name was! That animal kept talking about his Shixiong. Shixiong this, Shixiong that! so it stuck inside my head! I wanted to talk about his Highness this and that, but the little shit kept interrupting me!"
"Ahaha—"
There was a loud crash outside. Xie Lian jumped out of his seat, Hua Cheng's hand hovered above E-ming. Abruptly, The Martial God of the West barged into Puqi shrine.
Xie Lian relaxed and smiled, a greeting dying on his tongue as he was faced with a fulminanting glare coming from Quan Yizhen's usually stoic face.
Xie Lian sat back again, placed his hands on his knees and waited for the other god to speak.
Quan Yizhen huffed and bowed. Then, he slammed a gold bar on the table with such force the wood cracked. "You can't have him," He said, bowed again, and left.
Xie Lian was stumped. Silence reigned until Hua Cheng broke it by cackling. Wheezing, he fell off his chair.
"San Lang...? Do you know what that was about?"
Hua Cheng exhaled and smiled at his beloved. "Gege is so popular. I didn't know I had so much competition. Won't he tell me how many other ghosts have offered their ashes to him? Do I need to make Black Water a puddle for him to sleep in? Yin Yu may keep his room, but ah, Gege rejected my poor Waning Moon Officer, didn't he? How cruel, how sought after my God is."
Blood rushing to his cheeks, Xie Lian groaned and hid his face in his hands.
A moment later, Yin Yu's bashful voice spoke inside his head.
"I really didn't mean it like that, your Highness,"
Xie Lian made an embarrassed sound.
At least, he felt closer to laughing than to crying.
"I know."
"I apologize,"
"It's alright,"
"...May his Highness please ask Chengzu to stop calling me a homewrecker through my spiritual array?"
...
"Ah. I'm sorry, yes, of course."

They knew it wasn't going to be easy, nor was it going to feel good. Hua Cheng has meant to find Qi Rong, reveal the truth to Lan Qin Qao, and continue on with their lives. Well, he just wanted to beat the shit out of Qi Rong for what he did to Xie Lian.
All of you went to Qi Rong's lair, and watched Hua Cheng beat Qi Rong's face into the ground. Then you all got to listen to the truth about the banquet. So far so good. 'good' is an emotional ride for everyone there. But that was the whole point anyways.
Everything was going as planned, in Hua Cheng's book anyways. Until Qi Rong started slandering Hua Cheng and Xie Lian. He started yelling about how Hua Cheng was Xie Lian's dog, and how Xie Lian is so pure he must've been blinded by it.
You have a deep past with Xie Lian, and a relationship with both men so of course you aren't happy to hear these things. Especially from Qi Rong. You used to be close with him, of course you were. He was Xie Lian's cousin so obviously you would've met him. Now look at Qi Rong. It was truly pitiful.
You were upset by the words Qi Rong was saying, he used to be such a good child for you. The things he was saying weren't fair to your lovers, you also didn't want to see Qi Rong get beat up anymore. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng already had a go at him.
"Qi Rong you've grown to have such a vulgar tongue, please be quiet." You weren't going to hit anyone, you're too sweet for that, so you could only ask him nicely. It's the first thing you've said since you've been here. You haven't said anything, rather staying quiet instead. You just didn't want things to escalate further.
You hadn't expected it to work, Qi Rong is. . . Unstable, to put it nicely. Plus he hasn't looked at you this whole time you doubt he remembers you at all. It's been so long.
Qi Rong snaps his head towards you and his giggling dies down. "Y/n? Y/n is it really you? What a wonderful reunion this is!" Even though Qi Rong had just been upset about 'people throwing a party in his lair'.
"Come closer, come closer I want to see your face y/n. It seems you've been by my high and mighty cousin all this time." He grins widely. You don't reply to that, you don't know what to say. You had gone to step forward though, to allow Qi Rong to see your face after all these years.
Xie Lian stopped you though. Where he usually is so hesitant to touch you has been thrown away, he pulls you by the elbow, behind him now. Xie Lian doesn't know why he does it. Anger? Jealousy? Selfishness? Protectiveness? Hostility? Who knows but he knows that him and Hua Cheng will lose it if Qi Rong dares to spit harmful words towards you.
But Qi Rong doesn't. He does the contrary, as if Qi Rong had really missed you. As if he had a right to your person. He laughs, finding it hysterical how Xie Lian pulls you behind him. How his big cousin is selfish even though he acts like the most selfless person to ever breathe. "Hahaha! Look at you big cousin! Look, look! You've always been selfish! Selfish!" He laughs and laughs against the ground.
Qi Rong looks at you, what he can see peaking over Xie Lian's shoulder anyways. "Y/n, Y/n I've missed you over these 800 years. You must've been blinded by big cousin's light too! His pureness and selflessness right?! You should come with me instead. I miss Y/n's pretty face I haven't seen it in so long!" And he dares to try and reach a hand to your robes.
You don't know if he's being honest in his words or if he's saying it to piss off your lovers. You wouldn't put it past him. "Qi Rong please" you hiss through your teeth. You had been so focused on Xie Lian that you had completely forgotten about the seething ghost behind you.
Hua Cheng's devotion to Xie Lian is admirable and his devotion to you is the same. Qi Rong very quickly finds his face being slammed into the ground again. It's a very gruesome sight and you didn't enjoy it all. Hiding behind Xie Lian and covering your ears as Qi Rong continues to roll your name over his tongue.
Things pass, and tensions increase. Eventually leading to Qi Rong being cut in half and thrown into boiling liquids. Even though Xie Lian drags you off, you can't help but stare where Qi Rong was thrown.
Once the three of you are out of the lair, you're all interrupted by Shi Qingxuan and Feng Xin. Feng Xin wants the two of you to come back to the heavens. To come home. He demands it actually, threatening Hua Cheng with his bow and arrow. Shi Qingxuan stops him though. You and Xie Lian get pulled behind Hua Cheng.
Once things smooth over with them and Hua Cheng bullies Feng Xin with blood rain, you were expecting to go back to the heavens with Xie Lian. The two of you do need to get up there and explain everything that has happened. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng decide differently though. Instead you're dragged off and your lovers are eerily silent, seething quietly. You don't know what to say, because you don't know why they're upset. So you don't say anything you let them drag you along.
They've taken you to Puqi shrine. You can only assume that maybe after such a tiring day, that everyone is missing home. Maybe your lovers just want to spend a few hours with you and have some peace. To make what happened earlier a distant memory. Your mind is quickly changed.
Your assumptions prove wrong when Xie Lian drags you through the door and shoves you down on the mat. "H-hey! What is wrong with you?" You look away. Xie Lian grips your jaw and snaps your gaze back towards him. "Look at me, don't look away again" Xie Lian has never treated you so roughly. You've known him a long time and he's always treated you carefully. Not even in bed does he usually dare to treat you so hard.
You try to gain your balance, and to get off of the floor. You're quickly pulled back by your shoulders and your back meets Hua Cheng's chest. Leaving you between your two, seething lovers. And you? You poor, oblivious thing. You don't even understand why.
"A-Lian, San Lang! Why are you acting like this!?" You're left with no answer besides Xie Lian practically tearing at your robes and San Lang pinning your back against his chest. He's not giving you the chance to move away. Not that you would anyhow.
Hua Cheng being angry, and upset is nothing new. It's concerning sometimes but he tends to pout a lot so you expect it. Seeing Xie Lian angry, is frightening. Well, not exactly but you haven't seen him angry in a long time but he's never been angry with you. Ever.
You're stripped quickly, and your hands shoot out to Xie Lian's face. Holding his face in your hands, making him look at you, forcing him to pause in his ministrations. "A-Lian, what's wrong?"
Xie Lian's brow furrows and he lets out a shaky breath. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry y/n" he huffs softly and holds your wrist. He moves his face to the side and kisses your palm. "Qi Rong was right I am selfish. I am, I shouldn't be but I can help it. But I'm selfish for good reasons" he moves closer, nipping at your neck. His usual soft kisses, become possessive bites.
"I have a right to claim you, to touch you. You're mine. You're San Lang's. You're ours" he hisses through his teeth and he bites your shoulder hard. His hands roam while he talks, spreading your legs and his oiled fingers prod at your hole. Where did he get a bottle of oil? When did he even do that?
San Lang makes himself busy by kissing you and shoving his tongue down your throat. Stealing your breath as if it were his. Not that he needs to breathe.
Xie Lian continues, "But what right does he have to claim you? To try and take you away from me, from us?" Xie Lian growls out, and presses fingers up against your prostate. It didn't take long for him to find it, he's explored you many times. It causes you to arch against San Lang's chest and moan into his mouth.
Xie Lian doesn't feel like being nice today though because his fingers continue to rub and curl up against your prostate. You squirm against them both, moans being ripped out of you by Xie Lian nimble fingers. "A-Lian, A-Lian, please~!"
San Lang bullies you too, making you dizzy from his kisses and his forces your legs apart. He's encouraging Xie Lian to bully you. San Lang is good in bed and Xie Lian is usually obedient, but Xie Lian getting out of his shell to bully you? San Lang enjoys it thoroughly.
One of his hands wraps around your dick and he strokes you, he only makes it worse. The two take out their frustrations on you, leaving you to mumble their names. With both of them bullying your front and back, it's not long until your cumming. A long moan spills from your lips and your legs try to clamp shut. San Lang doesn't let them though.
You double over and heave a breath when they don't stop. Xie Lian bullies your prostate and San Lang moves his fingers faster around your dick. It quickly puts you into overstimulation and pretty tears drip from your eyes. "No, no, slow down~" You whine, and your legs shake into San Lang's hold.
"Tell us who's you are then" San Lang purrs in your ear. Another orgasm is forced out of you and you babble some more. "Xie Lian d-does, San Lang too. Please!" You squeal from the pleasure.
Those words are forced out of you many times that night, because they don't intend to let you get away so soon. They bully you for the rest of the night and when you show up in the heavens the next day you have a slight limp. The other officials are worried you were injured by Hua Cheng, but it was both Xie Lian and Hua Cheng who made you cry on their cocks.

During one night, while the couple slept, Hua Cheng had his face closed in an anguished expression, pressing Xie Lian, who was unaware of his husband's discomfort at being deeply asleep, against him in an increasingly tighter hug. Then, suddenly, Hua Cheng screams, loud, hoarse and it was the scream of someone in pain.
Xie Lian wakes up with a start, Hua Cheng continued clinging to Xie Lian and screaming in an agony that reverberated through Xie Lian's bones and shook Paradise Manor.
His scream was one of pain and was still overflowing with murderous intent.
Xie Lian shook Hua Cheng, saying, "San Lang! San Lang!!! Wake up!! It's okay!!" But Hua Cheng kept shouting and shouting things like, "I'm not!! I'm not!! I'm not!! Your Highness!!"
And he suddenly woke up, sat up and grabbed Xie Lian, pulling him onto his lap and squeezing him in his arms, hugging him as if he was afraid of losing him. "I'm not, Your Highness, please believe me!"
Xie Lian wrapped his arms around Hua Cheng's waist and laid his head on his chest, saying, "You're not what, San Lang?"
Hua Cheng took a while to respond, seeming to come to his senses and completely step out of the boundary between dream and reality: "...Cursed."
"Oh, San Lang." Xie Lian tightened his embrace and pressed a kiss to Hua Cheng's chest. "Of course you aren't. You never were and never will be. I believe you."
Hua Cheng trembled, pulling Xie Lian closer and closer to him as if he wanted to merge their bodies. Xie Lian pressed more kisses to Hua Cheng's skin, his chest, his shoulders, his neck... wherever he could reach. "I believe in you, San Lang. You're not. I believe in you."

The wedding scene but its a cowboy/western AU HUZZAH!
I kinda wanted to write what this scene would look like in this AU... So read that below for funzies.
Side note my dad walked in after I finished this and said "wow! Who's the little princess?" so Xie Lian is now a princess, confirmed.
All the beasts, demons, creatures, and even the wind itself had gone quiet as Hua Cheng approached the wedding carriage. He'd waited a few moments after slaughtering every binu that remained, skulking about the carriage which held one person--presumably a bride, but of course, he knew who it really was, why else would he be there? One of the doors--curtain closed over the window--lay ajar, evidently bashed in by some beast which had dismantled the hinges. Though the wind hand no resonance, there was a slight cacophonous creaking from this door laying askew, gently rocking back and fourth in its tired frame. Hua Cheng approached and pushed the door slightly open.
He kept his head bowed, ensuring his hat cast a shadow over his face so that his beloved would not see the hideous monster that lay beneath. He picked up on Xie Lian--dressed in a frilly white and inconvenient wedding gown--shifting, his breath changing at the sight of Hua Cheng's outstretched hand. Hua Cheng could practically hear Xie Lian's anxious thoughts, knowing not to trust the dark figure before him while also deciding to give in, likely under the impression he could save someone. That's always what Xie Lian would do. He'd save someone he'd never know, even if it meant he had to suffer greatly.
But he wouldn't be suffering with Hua Cheng. At least, Hua Cheng hoped he wouldn't.
The light touch of a gloved hand against his own sent chills up Hua Cheng's spine. He kept still, allowing Xie Lian the time to shuffle to the edge of his bench in order to bunglingly step out of the carriage with a dress so large. Hua Cheng didn't even know what to think of the dress. He decided it best not to look at his beloved, lest he act stupid. He kept his patience, assisting Xie Lian out of the carriage.
The hoop-skirt beneath all those petticoats got caught in the door frame and Xie Lian, having no experience in matters like these, immediately fell forward. He gasped and Hua Cheng quickly caught him, holding him respectful and giving him a moment to gather himself. He noticed Xie Lian's eyes had caught the butterfly pattern on Hua Cheng's sleeves. However, the wedding veil likely obscured too much of Xie Lian's vision to see much further than that.
Hua Cheng helped right Xie Lian on his feet, careful to make sure that the white gown didn't touch any of the bloody corpses of wolves surrounding them. He could sense Xie Lian was wary of him, likely planning a way to attack if anything implied Hua Cheng might pull a stunt. So, he was as meticulous with him as possible, showing more gentleness to him than he had to anyone ever before. His pace was slow, so Hua Cheng matched is, nonchalantly leading him away from the wedding carriage, which had been cut free of horses.
As they passed a dense tree line into a carved path, wolves began to scamper in the distance, circling around and beginning to close in. Xie Lian's tender gloved hand clutched Hua Cheng's in anticipation. As one wolf, louder than the others, came particularly close, Xie Lian had actually reached for the gun at Hua Cheng's hip, to his alarm. However, he could help but smile as Xie Lian softened again, having heard that these wolves weren't circling them as predators, but were whimpering and creeping away in fear. The pistol was never drawn.
Then they came across a skull. Hua Cheng acted as if he had not seen it, purposely making an effort to crush it under his step. He could hear Xie Lian's small breath of confusion and mild concern. Xie Lian would be more surprised to hear the pitter patter of rain on the umbrella Hua Cheng had just drawn. However, it wasn't raining. Over the howling of wolves and the cold still air, a smell of blood arose, almost overwhelming to the senses. Hua Cheng remained composed, and Xie Lian relaxed again.
When the blood rain came to a stop, so did the two immortals. They stood beside each other, still hand in hand. Xie Lian side stepped away, lifting his head to get a better look at the man who'd guiding him away from the wedding carriage. It was clear he'd been waiting to do this, slightly lifting his skirt with his free hand to release the cattle-rope--previously hooked around his hoop-skirt--out and in Hua Cheng's direction like a striking rattlesnake.
The cattle-rope was met by an enormous eruption of silver butterflies, twinkling like a thousand stars. Hua Cheng had vanished.

@here4hualian kissmas day 10: a kiss as a reward
tw for hallucinations
Hua Cheng's hands are cramping as he puts the finishing touches on statue number eight-thousand, nine-hundred, fifty-two. He has to focus to keep his fingers from shaking, lest he mar the stone.
"You've worked so hard," a voice whispers. A voice that isn't there, isn't real. But Hua Cheng listens, because it is still the voice of his god. His beloved.
"It's only what you deserve," Hua Cheng replies, shaving off the last bit of stone to make the intricate design of Xie Lian's robes.
"But you're the only one who can do it so well."
Hua Cheng examines the finished sculpture. "Only because I have the best muse."
He hears his god's laugh. "My ghost flatters me too much."
It's not real, Hua Cheng forcefully reminds himself. He's not here.
Hua Cheng turns. Xie Lian is standing there, wearing white-and-gold robes. He looks like he did before the fall of Xianle, when those eyes weren't clouded over with pain, and his face wasn't twisted into a grimace.
"My most devoted believer," the god whispers, and Hua Cheng breaks.
"Dianxia..." He steps forward. Places his hands on Xie Lian's shoulders. The god's skin is cold to the touch through the fabric of his robes.
"You deserve a reward for all this hard work," Xie Lian tells him. "Will you let me reward you?"
"I don't need a reward."
"Maybe not. But you deserve it." Xie Lian's eyes sparkle as he gazes up at him. "Close your eyes."
Hua Cheng obeys, and he hears Xie Lian let out a contented sigh.
A moment later, there are lips on his. Soft, cold lips, and Hua Cheng's entire body shudders. He lets out a moan. Hua Cheng reaches up, cupping Xie Lian's face, the god's cool skin sending shivers through him.
"Dianxia," he murmurs, pressing closer.
Xie Lian doesn't kiss him back.
Hua Cheng goes still. Slowly, he pulls away.
He's standing in front of the statue he just finished carving, one hand still cupping its cheek. The statue move, doesn't speak. Hua Cheng's spit glistens on his lips.
The ghost pulls away, cursing himself for forgetting. This place likes to torment him, or maybe that's just his own mind attempting to tear itself apart. He cannot afford to go mad.
He picks up his chisel, moving to a new block of stone, and begins carving statue number eight-thousand, nine-hundred, fifty-three.

Danmei Faves Meet Chopped: The Thought Experiment
(with the caveat that I have not read All The Danmei so actually this is “a limited selection of danmei faves” meet chopped) (also as of their official translations, no spoilers pls)
The Contestants:
1) Xie Lian
Pros: There is not one single thing that you could put into a basket that this man would be intimidated by. Not a single thing. He will cook anything that you hand to him, and be delighted to do so. You cannot phase him with unlikely ingredients or conflicting flavor profiles, he has risen above these concerns. He is smiling at everything he pulls out of the basket and probably scaring the other contestants in the process.
Cons: He might kill someone. Not on purpose. He will be out after round one, guaranteed, once the medics standing by in case of cuts intervene for a severe case of “all the judges are now poisoned.” Filming will probably have to stop so ambulances can be called. The crew generously allows him to take his leftovers with him.
2) Wei Wuxian
Pros: He is going to pack so much flavor in every bite! Every single bite! This man knows and embraces spice, and no one will be able to tell him that his meal is bland or underseasoned! Chili oil all over the damn plate!
Cons: The flavor is pain, he’s used every pepper the pantry has, and if he makes it to round two it’s only because of Xie Lian accidentally unleashing the horrors in round one.
3) Mo Ran
Pros: He’s a good cook! He makes a variety of dishes, and he’s gotten used to adjusting recipes for specific preferences. He’s well-traveled so it’s likely he’s encountered many ingredients and had practice in a variety of conditions, which is good experience to have in this competition. He’s been doing his best to be on his best behavior, but heaven help anyone who monopolizes the fryer.
Cons: Again - he’s been on his best behavior, but that’s really for one person who is not currently in the kitchen. He also only really cooks for one person, who has particular tastes.
4) Luo Binghe
Pros: Also a good cook! He, too, has a range of dishes he knows how to prepare, with years of practice going back (probably) as far as his adoption in his early childhood. He is well-traveled as well, with such exciting and… unique locales such as Hell Dimension (aka Endless Abyss) where he probably had to make… questionable culinary choices, so he probably won’t be thrown by whatever’s in the basket.
Cons: There’s a non-zero chance that there’s blood in the food.
(Of this particular line-up, I think it would come down to Mo Ran vs. Binghe for the dessert round, which will be a close call - they both have experience with desserts, I imagine, but I think Mo Ran might have a slight advantage considering Chu Wanning’s sweet tooth. He’s made a lot of sweets and more often. Also, can Binghe lean on a “protagonist halo” when Mo Ran is the protagonist of his own story?)
(Assuming the final round doesn’t devolve into chaos and sabotage, which… is very, very possible.)
The Non-Contestants:
Hua Cheng: Could he do well on chopped? Almost certainly. But why would he? He is here to cheer on gege.
Lan Wangji: Would probably actually do better than Wei Wuxian, if he cooks the meal to Wei Wuxian’s taste - I feel like he would be a little more sparing with the spice. Otherwise, his food is probably too bland for the judges.
Chu Wanning: He has one good dish, and it’s [redacted]. He could last a round but after that he’s probably out. He will do his best. He will not look like he is panicking (he is panicking).
Shen Qingqiu: A millennial who choked to death on bad food and rage. He probably has limited kitchen skills, but beyond the powers of having a microwave? Who knows.
Bonus Round:
Li Yu: He would try so hard. He would put every bit of skill he had on the table. He does not have any skill to put on the table. Do not put a fish in his basket, do not do this to him.
Mu Tianchi: Probably wouldn’t even compete. He’s going to steal Li Yu’s food from the judges. How dare they.
Chang Geng: He could probably do well in the competition, if he could be convinced to compete, but he probably couldn’t. He is smiling very politely at the producer, who is feeling a chill down their spine and backing away slowly.
Gu Yun: Do not let this man in the kitchen, he will cause problems on purpose.

SQX always being under his brother's thumb. Being a disappointment and dragged along everywhere. When he's not under his brother's thumb, after his brother's ascension, he spent his time goofing off and drinking. The best thing he was known for was just pulling a dumb prank on an asshole.
He didn't as for it, wasn't even given the right to know. He just got dragged to godhood and remained in his brother's shadow. So intrinsically connected that he wasn't his own person, and the humans that worshipped them even thought he wasn't a brother, but a wife - a piece of property, a person who had to listen to their husband.
He couldn't ever come close to what his brother could do. He was liked only for the money he threw around. He didn't even truly have friends before Xie Lian.
And still, he continued to be an embarrassment under his brother's thumb. Yelled at for appearing as a woman - which was both his brother denying who sqx always was and throwing their past where sqx spent his entire childhood dressed as a woman into the trash, and also sqx having layers in how he had to pretend to be someone he wasn't, and still kept the baby blanket of crossdressing as a form of feeling safe.
when he finds out, everyone thinks he's gone mad, but he hasn't. all he did was thrash and yell at his brother that he didn't want any of this, that he wanted to go live as a mortal. it was his brother that tied him down and refused to acknowledge who sqx always was; just a person, not an extension of himself
when xie lian finds him again, he admits his broken arm and leg are his own fault but he doesn't elaborate. he's not sad at his current state; he acts like the same person he always was. he's a mess, but it's still him. that's always been him. that's who he really is. he doesn't hide from it. he's found people that respect him for who he actually is, and couldn't give a rat's ass about the fact he apparently used to be a god. and the crossdressing is gone; he doesn't have to fear a ghost anymore. he doesn't have to put on masks. he's who he is, and the author even says in an interview he doesn't want to go back.
people think he xuan was the one to break the fan. i don't think he was.
but he was the one to repair it and give it back.

"What!?" Shi Qingxuan gasps, leaning forward from their place sprawled on He Xuan's lap. One hand flits to their chest while their other reaches forward to wave dramatically in Xie Lian's direction, an ornery little grin on their face.
"A-Lian," they chide, unserious. "You lost it?"
Xie Lian wrinkles his nose at that, smiling a bit awkwardly.
Mu Qing and Feng Xin have been sitting off to the side, arguing about their current game of cards, but Feng Xin perks up at the change in conversation, looking like he may be getting ready to interject. Mu Qing, with his thin face a little red from secondhand embarrassment, has been pretending to not be listening. After all, the two of them are quite well-aware of what Xie Lian is talking about, considering they share an apartment with him.
Mu Qing thumps Feng Xin on the chest with the back of his hand before he has a chance to go and say something stupid. Feng Xin just shoots him a confused and angry look and licks his lips like he's getting ready to speak anyway. With a sigh and a heavy eyeroll, Mu Qing knocks his knee against Feng Xin's for emphasis. The action pulls a groan from Feng Xin and a muttered 'bitch', but successfully discourages him from doing whatever it was he was going to do.
The two of them make a big show of stacking their cards together and splitting them in half so they each have a section to shuffle.
Xie Lian watches his friends being unsubtle and completely ridiculous and sighs after a moment, shaking his head.
“Ah, I've never liked that saying. I didn't lose it, I actually gave it away quite willingly, haha…”
Hua Cheng takes this moment to slink back from the kitchen with a can of sparkling water in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other. He hands the sparkling water to Xie Lian, who takes it with a quiet ‘thank you, San Lang’ and a small smile.
“Did I miss something?" Hua Cheng asks in a low voice directed solely to Xie Lian. He pointedly ignores everyone else as he plops down onto the couch and—whether to show off or just because he is the way he is—Hua Cheng uses his teeth to crack the cap off his beer bottle. He flicks the cap onto the coffee table and settles in comfortably beside Xie Lian, leaning against the back of the couch as he takes a leisurely sip.
Xie Lian bites his lip, his arm slung over the back of the couch behind Hua Cheng as he makes to lean into his space to whisper to him. Shi Qingxuan, however, beats him to it.
“Hua Cheng!" they gush, grinning from ear to ear. Hua Cheng closes his eye like the sound of their voice is grating to him and sighs before looking in Shi Qingxuan's direction, a cold and mirthless smile on his lips.
"What?" he deadpans, clearly uninterested as he takes another sip of his drink.
"Did you know our dear Lianlian isn't a virgin anymore?”
Hua Cheng sputters, choking on his drink, and breaks into a small coughing fit.
Xie Lian winces and quickly works to soothe Hua Cheng, alternating between patting him on the back and rubbing little circles between his shoulder blades. Hua Cheng's normally pale features have gone red from the exertion. Mu Qing snorts at the scene but otherwise stifles his laugh—unlike Feng Xin whose own laugh startles out into the room, earning him a sharp look of disapproval from Xie Lian.
Poor Shi Qingxuan is at a loss, pouting as they slump back against He Xuan's chest and cross their arms.
“Well, uh," Xie Lian starts, smiling sheepishly as he shifts his hand down from Hua Cheng's back to hold him gently at his waist.
"You could say that San Lang was actually the first to know..?”
"Gege!"

Fic Finder

1. Hi, me again!! Returning to your amazing site!! I hope you can help me find this fic!! I'm looking for a fic where WWX doesn't die in his first life, but he ends up in a paperman and in Yummeng they have to find a way to returning him to his body!! Please help!! Be well :) @monicaop21
NOT FOUND! 🧡 a paper friend by soft_wanning (G, 4k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Fluff, Paperman!WWX, Identity Porn, Meet-Cute, Different First Meeting) I'm not sure this is right but I'd thought I'd mention it just in case - Mod C
I remember this one but can't find it! Iirc, WWX was in a coma in Lotus Pier, but the rest of the cultivation world was told he was dead. Can't remember how his spirit ended up in a paperman, but all the Lotus Pier people knew, and eventually LWJ figured it out when he was visiting for a cultivation conference or something. I think they were trying to figure out how to get WWX back into his body when MXY did his ritual and WWXs spirit was pulled out of the paperman and everyone freaked out that he'd died for real this time
FOUND!🔒 something like by silversshadow (T, 69k, WangXian, XuanLi, SongXiao, Canon Divergence, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Temporary Character Death)

2. Hi!! Thank you for all your hardwork here.
I was looking for this fic where Wei Wuxian doesn't get adopted by the Jiangs.( I'm not sure if it was because he retained his memories of his earlier life.) Anyway... he gets the Dafan Wens at Yiling and closes Yiling with a barrier that no one can break through.
At some point Lan Wangji comes by and meets Wei Wuxian and there's a little bit of an identity crisis happening because Wuxian doesn't want to tell Wangji who he is but the smart Lan figures it out (I think lol) Also the war happens (again not so sure) but anyway all the sects comes to ask for refuge at Yiling.
The part I remember really well is where The Jiangs come by boat and Yu furen is her usual self with her condescending attitude.
I also remember a section where, towards the beginning, Wuxian actually cures the Burial mounds and like the entire village just loves him and takes care of him because he's such an angel.
Please find this for me cuz I went through 115 pages in my history and still couldn't find it. @poetic-writes

3. hiii for the next FF I’m looking for a modern wangxian fic where wy is a toymaker and LZ is a writer and single father to lsz. It’s largely comfort where wy reintroduces LZ to the magic of imagination I think and idk if it’s only where i stopped but the most recent scene was lz’s mother being stuck in the hospital. I also rmb that wy couldn’t leave the toy shop for long. @crazy-gay-killxr

4. Hi!! Thanks for your work, I have been looking for a fic I read I while ago. It is a MDZSxTGCF crossover, it starts with Wei Ying arriving to ghost city after his death and Hualian finding him (I'm pretty sure he calls Xie Lian an angel at some point). Some time later, Lan Zhan travels to the ghost city to find Wei Ying, he doesn't find him but Hua Cheng lent him some luck so they can reunite soon.
Thank again for everything!!! @jesuqueso

5. hi! im looking for a fic where the juniors of lotus pier think wwx gives the worst punishment. in reality, wwx just deliveres them to the most appropriate adult to deal with it. like if the best punishment would be "im not mad just disappointed" lecture, then he'll drop the kids off to jaing yanli or if they need handstands then to lan wangji and so on.. but wwx himself rarely punished them and somehow the juniors came to the conclusion that he must give out the worst punishment
this was just a small scene from a long fic. not even related to plot, i think this scene was towards the end. @mumblerovertmblr
FOUND! I'm pretty sure 5 is And Time Is But a Paper Moon by sami (M, 139k, WangXian, XiChengQing, Time Travel, Fix-It, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Healing, Mental Health Issues, PTSD, Hurt/Comfort, Depression, BAMF WWX, BAMF JC, BAMF LWJ, BAMF JYL, Getting Together) or one of its sequels / yes like previouly said, it is in And Time Is But A Paper Moon by sami, in chapter 20!

6. For the next Fic Finder – I was looking for a fic to suggest for an ITMF request, but I can’t find it! It’s a modern AU, where LQR suggests a marriage between JYL and LWJ (after a scandal with JGS comes to light, making JZX a bad option even though JYL still wants to marry him). But LWJ and WWX are already secretly dating, so WWX chaperones JYL and LWJ on a “date” where they finally tell her they are together, and then go about telling the rest of their family through the rest of the fic. @eorlgreylady
FOUND! I think 6 is A Sequence of coming out by kippalittlefox, but it seems to be deleted.
~*~
7. What I remember from it is that WWX was in the bath before some people broke into the jingshi and held him hostage when LWJ got back. He had a string to his throat, or a knife not fully sure. After the guys that broke in were killed and it was like the next day, JC came by and the three of them started talking in the middle of CR so that the others would know that LWJ killed the men because they tried to kill his husband and if they wanted to see the scar left across WWX's throat.
This part was at the end of it, but I don't remember it being long. Don't really remember honestly
FOUND! sounds like No journey is too long by dea_liberty (M, 12k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Found Families, Epilogue, Happy Ending, Some angst, a lot of feelings, WWX has some PTSD to deal with, Minor Violence) the last in a five-part post canon series. The incident takes place in an inn, not the Jingshi, but other details match
~*~
8. Hi! I’m kinda desperate now.
I’m looking for a fic where a-yuan or I think OC child is wwx and lwj biological child. I remember there is a chapter wherein before dying (due to canon stuff), wwx confessed to lwj that they had a child together. Then wwx died and I think they search for for the child (I forgot who saw the child but I sure it is either lxc or lwj)
I really appreciate it if you help me😭
~*~
9. Hey! I'm looking for a fic I've read once but can't seem to find it anymore.
It was a modern Wangxian au where LWJ is a motorbike racer and WWX is a single parent to A-Yuan. LWJ sees WWX on the street as he drives by and circles back just to ask him out on a date. Incredibly sweet fic and I would like to read it again.
Thank you! 😘 @lucica-stuff

10. There's a long modern au where lwj and lxc are art agents or something and wwx is an artist. But the main thing of the fic is that wwx hears from mxy that lwj FUCKS and might have a spreadsheet for it. This turns wwxs world upside down cause lwj is his best friend and he'd never known this. Then there's pining. Wwx painting a triptych, pining while fucking and finally the two idiots talk. There was also a b side version from lwjs pov. I cannot find this fic now. Help.
FOUND! show me a quiver, give me tonight by spookykingdomstarlight (E, 115k, wangxian, lwj/others, communication failure, mutual pining, artists, demisexual wwx, angst w/ happy ending)

11. hello! i need help looking for a fic please 🙏🏻
i remember a lot but these are the important bits: modern au, wwx & lwj used to be classmates, nhs finally convinced wwx to confess his feelings for lwj, and when he did (in public, blurting out loud cause he was VERY nervous), lwj thought it was a prank, got angry and rejected wwx. wwx was devastated, nhs felt guilty, planned to drink & then met wen xu. wwx and wen xu get together, but wwx ran away (?) with wx. he was actually in an abusive & manipulative relationship with wx. then wwx adopts wen yuan and he fled with wy. years later, wwx owns a cafe, wy is a teen and they accidentally meet lwj again at the cafe. the junior ensemble is there, things happen and wx finds wwx but there is a happy ending.
i have TRIED looking for it myself but to no avail. (This part added to an itmf)
we are blessed in this community for all the work that you do, thank you so much! 🙇🏻‍♀️ @emkaii

13. Hi can you guys help me find a fic? It was a modern au; it was about Lwj slowly realizing the Jiangs neglect Wwx or something along those lines. I remember two scenes, one where they were talking about gifts, and Wwx said Madam Yu got him shampoo and conditioner for his birthday, and Wwx thought that was normal. 15. For fic finder: It was a modern au about sport dueling. You could duel in pairs or one on one, and WWX and JC were raised to be a pair but Madame Yu kept them apart, I think? A) it's a short one I believe? Where nie huaisang kinda drags wwx with him to the past and wwx was livid (wwx chocked nhs or something), the scene happened in front alot of ppl .
B) I've read multiple like this one can't remember the exact one but it's where wwx was actually female, and hid her true ID from the jinags, and was discovered by the Lans or something
C) it's similar to b but I remember this scene it was an established Relationship post canon? Where wwx got her og body back after being resurrected by male mxy

20. Hello! I’m trying to find a modern AU fic where the Lans still run a school, and in the backstory, WWX did something, got expelled over it (can’t remember why, it’s either punching JZX or messing with LWJ) and after being sent home, Madam Yu disowned him and threw him out of the house. There was also a mention that LQR was horrified, because the other times he expelled someone, they simply petitioned to be readmitted to the school and he was expecting that to happen with WWX.
Unfortunately that’s all I remember. Any ideas help!

@here4hualian kissmas day 8: kiss on the...
Xie Lian escaped to the gardens the first chance he got. There, one he was out of sight of the doors that lead back to the party, he relaxed, slumping down on one of the stone benches that littered the area. He closed his eyes, threw his head back, and took several deep breaths now that he felt like he could, now that random nobles from this or that kingdom weren’t crowding in with flattery and gifts and pointed comments about their children who were right around his age.
“Shouldn’t you be at the party?”
Xie Lian’s eyes snapped open at the unfamiliar voice. In front of him, he saw a young man dressed in plain black clothes. He was tall, with dark hair pulled back into a loose braid with a couple strands falling out to frame his face.
Handsome, Xie Lian thought immediately, his cheeks slightly red. Luckily for him it was too dark to tell in the fading daylight. He cleared his throat. “I’ll go back inside in a minute, I only came out for some fresh air.”
“Right, of course. I mean, not that I was trying to tell Dianxia what to do, I was just startled to find you here. I just… Isn’t it a little cold to be outside?” Summer was just beginning, and the nights still hadn’t quite shook off the winter chill.
“It’s nice. Those parties get stuffy after a while, and I like it out here.” A breeze drifted through and he noticed the man shiver lightly. “What about you? You didn’t come from the party.”
“No, your highness. This one is merely a gardener.”
Xie Lian lit up. “Oh? So then, this is all your doing?” He gestured to the flowers surrounding them.
The man bowed his head. “Yes, your highness.”
“It’s beautiful! I like it very much!” The man lifted his head at the praise, a soft smile on his face. “What is your name?”
“This one is third in his family, so they call me San Lang,” the man, San Lang responded. “And… if I may be bold…” he waited a moment but Xie Lian didn’t interrupt so he continued, “I would say that though the gardens are certainly beautiful, they hold no candle to the most beautiful flower of all.” He met Xie Lian’s eyes for a second, but his gaze quickly darted down to the ground.
Xie Lian’s first instinct was to sigh at yet another compliment. He had been lavished in so many of those tonight, people looking to get in his good graces, or his father’s, saying whatever they thought would flatter the young, naive prince into giving them whatever foothold they wanted.
When San Lang said it, though… There was no court speech, no words with at least three alternate meanings, dressed up in pretty language to hide cruel intentions. Xie Lian instead got the feeling that this young man was completely sincere.
It was refreshing. He wanted suddenly to hear more, so he leaned forward and asked, “So I’m a flower then? Should I allow the esteemed gardener to care for me, perhaps? Arrange me among my brethren as he sees fit?”
“Dianxia- I didn’t mean- Of course his highness isn’t-” San Lang stammered. Xie Lian cut him off with a gentle laugh.
“San Lang, relax.” Xie Lian took note of the way San Lang’s shoulders tensed then gently lowered when he said his name. “I’m only messing with you, I really don’t mind. Besides, you’re certainly not the first person to have compared me with some delicate beauty of nature, if I minded I’d have made it known a long time ago, haha…”
Honestly he did mind, just a bit. To have himself reduced down to nothing but his beauty so often, as if that were the only thing to him, as if he didn’t beg his parents to allow him to learn how to use a sword until the finally gave in, as if he didn’t work himself to the bone training with his fellow disciples, as if he didn’t earn his place as the top martial student in his sect–
“They’re wrong.” San Lang’s voice was quiet but strong.
“Hm?” Xie Lian looked up from where he realized his gaze had dropped to his hands, calloused from years of hard work but praised as so delicate. San Lang was looking at him now, and met his eyes with a determined gaze. Someone opened the door to the garden then, and a ray of light fell across San Lang’s face, allowing the prince to see that one of his eyes was a beautiful shade of red.
“They’re wrong,” San Lang repeated. “Dianxia isn’t delicate. Flowers aren’t delicate! It’s like…” he hesitated. “This may be presumptuous of me to ask, but may I show you something?”
Xie Lian nodded. “Show me.” He stood and followed San Lang through the garden, towards a bed at the edge. This area of the garden was reserved for a grove of orange trees, but San Lang ignored them, instead drawing Xie Lian’s attention to the base where a few small yellow flowers were growing. Dandelions.
“These are my favorite flowers,” San Lan said.
“A weed?” Xie Lian asked, confused. “I didn’t think they were supposed to be in gardens.”
“They’re not,” San Lang confirmed. “And yet, here they are. The thing that makes them weeds, that makes gardeners so upset with them, is that once they’re here they’re nearly impossible to fully get rid of. They’re tenacious, they grow almost anywhere, so it seems as though no matter how many you pull they always come right back. That’s why they’re my favorite.”
Xie Lian had never thought of it like that before. A genuine grin began to form on his face. “So when San Lang says I am like a flower, he means a dandelion?”
San Lang made a face for a moment, but quickly returned his features to neutral. “In a way, I suppose, but if I were going to describe Dianxia as a flower…” he turned his head. Xie Lian followed his gaze and landed on a bush dotted with white roses.
“To me, Dianxia is like this,” San Lang said. He walked over to the bush and brushed his fingers gently across the petals of a rose. “Beautiful on the surface…” he reached in and snapped the stem, bringing the flower to Xie Lian, “...if only to hide the danger waiting just beneath.” He presented the flower so Xie Lian could see the line of thorns along the stem.
“Oh…” Xie Lian’s breath caught in his throat. An indescribable feeling that had been building inside his chest the entire conversation bubbled up and overwhelmed him with its intensity. “That’s– really how you see me?”
“It is.” San Lang, in a sudden fit of boldness, reached out and gently grabbed Xie Lian’s right hand. “Beautiful on the surface…”
He bent down and kissed the back of his hand lightly. It wasn’t an unfamiliar feeling to the prince, just earlier he had stood at the front of a line while noble upon noble greeted him in just this way. It was different when San Lang did it. He was so sincere as he had been in everything he’d done since Xie Lian met him, and it made the act feel reverent, almost like worship.
San Lang gently turned Xie Lian’s hand in his until his palm faced upwards. A team of servants had fussed for hours over this hand earlier in the day. While the back of his hand was simple– his nails could be shaped, his skin lotioned until it was soft– the callouses from holding his sword stood prominent on his palm despite their efforts, scrubbing and scraping and soaking until they had to stop or his fingers would be all wrinkled. At past events, Xie Lian had ended up dancing with several girls who had recoiled from the rough sensation of his hand in theirs.
San Lang didn’t recoil. He treated Xie Lian’s palm just as reverently as he’d treated the back of his hand, bending over to place a kiss at the joint where his pointer finger met the rest of his hand, right over where one of the largest callouses sat. “Hiding the danger beneath,” he finished.
Xie Lian couldn’t breathe. A tingling started from that point in his palm that was slowly traveling through his entire body, chasing away the chill of the night and leaving him pleasantly warm.
San Lang gently placed the rose in his hand, ensuring the thorns wouldn’t break his skin, then released it. Xie Lian wanted to say something else, to learn more about him, anything to hear him speak more, to stay with him a little longer, but he was distracted by a shout behind him.
“Dianxia! There you are!” It was Feng Xin. “Your father has been looking for you, what are you doing out here?”
“Nothing, I was just…” Xie Lian glanced back to San Lang, only to discover that he was gone, vanished into the night. “...Looking at the flowers,” he landed on.
“Well hurry up and come back inside! You’re going to catch a cold out here!” Feng Xin fretted.
Xie Lian allowed himself to be dragged back inside, but his mind stayed on the rose in his hand, and the boy who had given it to him for the rest of the night.

Yin Yu Appreciation Week 2024 Day Four- Sad - "Shackle"
Another HuaYin ficlet offering <3
“Does it bother you?”
Hua Cheng’s voice drew Yin Yu out of his thoughts, and he straightened to attention.
“Chengzhu?” he asked. The ghost king hadn’t even looked up from the scroll hanging from his hands and draping over his lap to the floor.
“That thing on your wrist.”
Yin Yu’s expression twitched imperceptibly, and he realized he had been idly rubbing at his shackled wrist. Quickly, he stopped, pretending he’d only been adjusting his sleeve.
“It’s of no concern.”
“I’d be concerned if it was distracting my officer during his duties,” Hua Cheng drawled, though he barely sounded like he was interested. “Does it hurt you?”
Hurt? Not physically. It was a painful reminder of his final day in Heaven. Of Quan Yizhen’s expression as he said those horrible words to him. Of who he once was - and who he definitely wasn’t. The emperor’s grip on his wrist had been firm, able to snap bone if he wished, but Yin Yu only received the shackle. Like a jade bracelet, it was a thing he would wear the rest of eternity. A gift and a punishment.
“No, Chengzhu,” he said softly. Hua Cheng finally lifted his gaze, and it settled on Yin Yu’s arm. Yin Yu didn’t recoil when Hua Cheng reached out for him and pulled up his sleeve. On milky white skin, dark symbols bore into his wrist. They were thick and unsightly. Yin Yu didn’t mind the look of the shackle too much, but even beyond it sealing his godhood away, it made him cringe. Even if he’d never been a magnificent god or a kind friend or a perfect person, he always had his body. It was the one thing he’d tended to daily during his cultivation. He wasn’t vain about his looks, but he was secretly a little proud of how much hard work went into upkeeping his strength and abilities that Hua Cheng required him to use daily as his officer. The shackle, meanwhile, took away the last of his “reward” for all that hard work. No matter how hard he worked now, this was all he would ever achieve.
The muscles in his forearm tensed when long, slender fingers trailed over his skin. Hua Cheng was inspecting him like some kind of specimen, tracing the shackle. Yin Yu got goosebumps as he felt Hua Cheng’s spiritual energy curiously prick at the shackle’s edges. The emperor’s energy was insurmountable, and as such, he was able to create the shackles with ease. If Yin Yu had to choose someone, though, he wouldn’t doubt that Hua Cheng might just be powerful enough to rival the shackle’s curse. The two of them had become rather close over the past few decades. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to imagine that the ghost just might-
Yin Yu had to immediately stop that train of thought.
“Ch-... Chengzhu…?” he dared to ask after a few moments.
“All banished gods have these?” Hua Cheng asked.
There it was. That’s why Hua Cheng had suddenly become interested in his shackle. Yin Yu let out a slow, steady exhale.
Yin Yu answered all of Hua Cheng’s questions. He let the ghost poke and prod with cold fingers at his flesh. He bit his tongue when Hua Cheng tested the shackle with his spiritual energy once or twice more. As soon as he was released, Yin Yu excused himself. It was another preparation for Xie Lian. It was always for Xie Lian. For just a moment, Yin Yu had allowed himself to be foolish enough to believe that Hua Cheng might be interested in him. Stupid. Selfish, even. Stay, Hua Cheng prayed to him - Xie Lian, not Yin Yu. Yin Yu was nothing more than another banished god. Easily replaced. Easily a replacement. Stay. What a mockery of his pain. Of his desire. How dare Hua Cheng allow him to start feeling these things?

You looked before you frowned, Something was off. You knew it. Never over the last 16 years have you felt such unease. "I wonder if they know about me?" you question yourself out loud not noticing your lover behind you." is something wrong sweetie" You look up only to see his honey-colored orbs covered with worry. despite breaking up the two of you still took care of each other, promising one another you would come to the place where the moon shone the brightest. Yu Jun Mountain, happy memories as well as bad ones.” do you wish to dance away the worries with me” he held out his hand. You took it. His touch felt like it would be the last you would feel it.’ well if all is
going to fall, I might as well enjoy my last ounce of freedom.” you thought as you forced a smile. The two of you danced, spin after spin, jump after jump. leap after leap, and when (e/hn) pulled you ever so close to his face, you rested your hands on his chest clutching them. Your lips were ever so lonely but when you felt his you felt complete as if you found the other piece of a puzzle. You were first to break the kiss gazing at him. ‘There's something I want to say to you” You hesitantly say. He grabs your hand and places it on this cheek before saying” Say whatever you wish but remember I love you” You smile ever so sadly” I’m yours you know and you’re mine Y/n…ahh” A bandage pulls him from the rooftop you too were on and throws him on the ground. As you try jumping to him a hand on your waist stops you.” so the rumors are true” you start trembling in his grasp” Hua cheng please let me go”. He tightens his hold on you.” oh how cute love asking me to let you go after all you did” you gasp you open your mouth to insult him but before you could a scream of agony rang filling in the silent night. you stop.. Tears falling “ let him go, please... Hua Cheng let him go ” He smiled as he warpes your tears ” Oh no we can’t he had you for so, so long and then he called you his quite the thief he..” Hua Cheng looked at you in disbelief..his hand on his cheek. you lept before he could stop you.  When you landed you saw Xie Lian standing above your ex-lover body, who was losing too much blood. you ran and kneeled beside him holding his passing body in your hands. He looked at you with dead eyes”’ p..please..ugh..kee.p m..y ring..i’ lo..ve you..” and with one more cough he passed eyes open his body turning into ashing? you cry, trying to grab hold of the ash, but a huge gust of wind blows them away.” why..why did you do that you..you monsters.” The two just stood there watching you cry until Hua Cheng had enough of it “ Stop wasting your tears it’s annoying” his sharp commanding voice made you fear what would happen to you. You sniffed looking at the ruby-cloured ring..at least you have it. Xie Lian who was still standing came to you and said” Look love we’re sorry but you know we have no choice but to keep you from him” he patted your head. “ how..how did you find me” you felt his hand take a strand of your silver hair before he smiled ”you still have your silver hair love” you shiver and then you start crying. what in heaven did you do wrong,. Lost in your thoughts you overlooked the fact that Xie Lian was carrying you. It was when you felt a needle in your arm and two faces looking at eyes filled with intense love “Rest love we’ll talk later” A tear dropped before your ever-bright eyes turned dull and closed.

Day 28 of @whumperless-whump-event
Day: 28 - NOTHING BEHIND THE EYES
Prompt: Fully unconscious / Force feeding / "It's just me, go back to sleep."
Fandom: TGCF
Characters: Xie Lian and Hua Cheng
A coffin. He was in a coffin. His god was in a fucking coffin.
To say Hua Cheng is furious is an understatement, but he has to reign it in, his god needs him. He’ll undoubtedly burn a few temples afterwards though. He shifts into his more youthful and pleasant form, then he quietly enters into the room he’s prepared for His Highness.
His god lays on the plush, extravagant bed, still as a corpse. He’s already taken on the task of cleaning and redressing his new guest, without aggravating the injuries.
“W-who…” his god asks, voice shaky and hoarse from disuse, while the ghost was cleaning him.
“This one is San Lang, Dianxia. Please be calm and allow me to help,” he explains gently. “Could you please take a sip of this for me?”
The injured one hesitates, slowly opening his beautiful golden eyes before wincing and shutting them quickly. Eventually he makes a small sound of affirmation and the rim of a cup is placed near his lips and a hand is holding his head up. He cautiously takes a sip, scared that the liquid inside would do more harm than good, but soon enough he realizes it was just truly water.
His highness was extremely thirsty, after a moment of caution he started to gulp down the cup, it got to the point that Hua Cheng was scared he’d choke. So as he was pulling away the half empty cup a weak hand quickly reaches up and (trying to) stop him. He grimaces and carefully pries the boney hand away before returning the cup to his god’s lips.
“Please, take your time. There's plenty of water and this San Lang would rather not see Dianxia choke… again.”
The injured god merely makes another sound of agreement before returning to, more slowly, drinking the water. Once he was satisfied his Highness takes in a shuddering breath and closes his eyes again, falling into an uneasy sleep.
While he sleeps the ghost quickly performs a check up on the god’s health, safe to say he hates what he finds. His highness has had his chest injury for a concerning amount of time, his fingers have signs of bleeding as well, he’s obviously been starved and not to mention the dehydration. No surprise that the supreme is furious.
Once cleaned and bandaged his guest looks a bit better, less dead looking, the lack of blood and visible hurt is slightly comforting.
He sighs and maneuvers the god to sit up, getting the bowl of medical broth he had prepared. Slowly and methodically he begins to feed his god some of the broth, taking great care in making sure the other didn’t choke. He gets halfway through the bowl before his unconcious guest stirs and coughs.
He stops and packs up the medical supplies and food, he sits in silence and stares.
When it’s time for him to leave he summons a few butterflies to monitor the sleeping one while he makes sure to make the necessary arrangements to ensure his beloved has a smooth and comfortable recovery in his city.
In the middle of the night he returns when his butterflies alert him of his guest stirring. He arrives and his highness is barely awake but his eyes are clearer. He’s more aware, but still obviously very injured and dazed, he seems better so the ghost can’t help a small relieved smile.
“Good morning, Dianxia,” he greets carefully. “It’s just me, please go back to sleep. You need the rest.”

Imagine, the first calligraphy lesson in Hua Cheng's pov — Lack of Control
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hua Cheng's handwriting became wilder, his hand under Xie Lian's was out of control, extremely hot despite his temperature being naturally cold.
How could Hua Cheng maintain his control with Xie Lian so close? Their hands joined together and his sweet scent filling his nostrils.
Xie Lian, the flower he had been looking for all his life, was right there, whispering in his ear, touching him with a caress that made his body ache, wearing the clothes that Hua Cheng had custom-made for him, wearing red like him. In his perverse imagination, Xie Lian was parading around with Hua Cheng's mark on him, showing everyone that he had been taken by Hua Cheng, and Hua Cheng couldn't even bend him over the table and go back to kissing him like the hungry man that he was.
The kiss in the water wasn't enough, despite his guilt knowing that Xie Lian was uncomfortable with it, and their bodies being so close wasn't helping at all.
God have mercy, he thought, but he couldn't pray because the god he was going to pray to was the man who was driving him crazy.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, in sad relief Xie Lian pulled away from him a little, despite their hands still being clasped together, and Hua Cheng just pretended that his crazy handwriting was one of his antics rather than an indication of his lack of control.
