DPxDC Danny the Guy Who Won't Die

He lives in Gotham, and he is just A Guy. Nothing weird about him, he's just there to study/work/help Lady Gotham to lift her curse/on vacation with Sam. Point is, he is not there to cause trouble and there's no GIW on his tail. Just a dude living his (after)life.

And Gotham, being Gotham, still finds a way to be annoying. There are mugging attempts, robbery, Rogues running around. Only Danny really doesn't want to deal with any of it.

Now there's a dilemma. If he uses his powers to fight, it will sooner or later come to Bats' attention. And if he fights as a human, it will also alert some of the Bats since he doesn't really do a great job at keeping his power levels low. Not to mention the fact he is really not enthusiastic about accidentally punching someone hard enough he sends them to a hospital.

What does he do instead? He pulls the 'I guess I'll die' act.

So every time he is attacked, he just plays dead. The mugger shot him in the chest? He falls down and stops breathing. Caught up in the middle of a Poison Ivy attack? Skewers himself on the vine and goes lax. Scarecrow's Fear Gas? Very dramatically chokes himself and plays a corpse. He makes sure to disappear before any ambulances arrive later, and it all goes well for a few months - he is just a casualty, who cares, really - until one day, he runs into that same mugger who shot him in the chest a while ago.

The man does a double take. Danny doesn't notice - he's been mugged so many times, who has the brain capacity to remember all of those fuckers. But the rumor goes out anyway.

A guy-who-won't-die. It's more of a city legend, really, and the Bats don't give it much thought since, well, it sounds stupid and not very important. A rumor of some man who was shot dead and then showed up like nothing happened? Yeah, it's probably because the mugger didn't check if he was actually dead. That happens. Maybe it wasn't even the same man, Gotham is a big city. If anything, hey, at least that was one less casualty? That's a good thing.

That is, until one day, they show up to Joker's hostage situation and witness the clown screaming at one of the hostages. He is so enraged he is shaking, spit flying out of his mouth, and, contrary to the usual Joker's evil sneers and maniacal laughter, he seems just... furious. But, like, the normal-human-level furious. The 'I just lost the last ounce of patience with you' furious.

"Don't you look away from me, you think I don't remember you?! Na-ah, I do. You were the one I drowned in the shark tank last week! And you were the one run through the chainsaw trap two weeks before that! And you were in the guillotine!!! I saw your fucking head get deattached from your body, how the fuck are you here again?!"

And the guy he is screaming at just looks at him, confused and incomprehensive.

"Um, I'm pretty sure I'd remember getting my head cut off, you know? So, err, wrong guy."

"Wrong guy my fucking ass-"

Joker is so distracted by his screaming match that it makes it almost too easy for the Bats to fight him down and drag to Arkham. Yet, a few of them get just a bit suspicious.

Now, imagine all the shenanigans when they try keeping a watch on Danny the Won't Die Guy.

i have a headache and can NOT think clearly enough to really gather my thoughts but as much as i really did like atsv there were just. things about it that didnt work for me. and like mostly i was not big on how they did the “canon events” stuff like im not AGAINST it just at points felt like sort of redoing the moment in itsv where after aaron dies the other spiderpeople are able to comfort and relate to miles because they’ve been through similar things and this is like... that but in a technical lore way and not hitting the same emotional beat?? like obvioulsy they’re taking it somewhere different and its about like defying the story that’s laid out for you and i LIKE that but. idk. and im like yeah obviously theres stuff thats part of the spiderman origin story we KNOW this we did it already in the last movie and it was a great scene. and also like theres no way everything they referenced is 100% true for every version of spiderman, even every single one that cameos in the movie?? idk. it just Frustrated me in a way that i truly cannot put my finger on

A Moral Dilemma! Question!

Let's say there is a trucker. An average man. Kind enough, did okay in school, loves his wife and misses her like you wouldn't believe every time he has to go. Misses his little girl even more. HATES he's missing the early years of her life. First day to school, getting her up and brushing her hair into pigtails, making pancakes like his Pa used to make. The works.

But the economy is shit. Him and his wife have to work. Make ends meet. They're DESPERATE to get out of Gotham. Move somewhere boring. Safe.

But... well, places like that cost money. Kids cost money. And he did OKAY in school. Not a lot of jobs out there for "Okay" guys from Gotham.

His cousin finds him a route though. A solid job. Really pulled through when push came to shove and things were looking bad. Like he might have to take up that offer to Goon. Now he's a trucker.

And his route? Well the half way point is Amity Park. He stops to stay the night every time. Never really STAYS, has heard they got themselves a Cape and such, but? It is what it is. He's from Gotham. He minds his business. Parks on the outskirts of town to avoid getting hit.

Doesn't realize, he's getting SOAKED in Ectoplasm every time he's in town.

And this trucker? Not the healthiest man. He wishes he could be. But life on the road is not exactly conducive to fresh fruit and leafy greens. He eats more grease and sugar then his doctor would EVER recommend. In fact, has specifically warned him not too.

But some days you just need a warm meal. You miss your kid, your wife, your bed. And you know it'll be days before you can see any of them. But at least there is pancakes.

You can pretend you're eating with your family. Or at least, let the coffee be warm enough for the two of you. God, but the poor man is tired.

And as he gets close to Gotham?

Breaking News!

The Joker. AGAIN. The trucker cringes, horror filling him. What poor soul has that mad man hurt NOW? When will it end? Him and his wife are so close to getting the hell out. Thinking Kansas. His wife has been joking about pie baking competit-

Oh God No.

There, on the screen, tears streaming down her beautiful face? Is the love of his life. His best friend. His EVERYTHING. And in her arms, trying so, so hard to be quiet. To muffle her terror born sobs... is his little girl. One pigtail torn from its srunchie, blood on her tiny face.

The trucker knows how this story ends.

Batman will try. He ALWAYS tries. And sometimes... sometimes that's enough. But he knows the odds here. His family are in front. Stars of this sick show. The trucker can't breathe. His heart is pounding, too hard for a man of his health.

He's not young. Should be on blood pressure meds he simply cant afford. Is panicked by a terror few should ever suffer. And? What runs in his family, strikes true. It feels so far away, the pain in his chest. He... No, he can't.

He can't.

His family.

He can't die. Leave them. They're in danger! They can't die like this. So close to freedom. Happiness. They... the..y.. ca..n..t...

So! Here in comes the QUESTION! As you sit, watching this terrified child call for her father, ripped from her begging mothers arms, you see a green opaque man full body tackle the Joker.

You watch his eyes visible glow and change color, fight a visible STRUGGLE, like jeckle and Hyde, for control of his body. Between the monster known as Joker and what seems to be? The little girl's newly Meta father.

The Father wins.

You watch the Bat arrive with the police. Thank the man and say he can release Joker into custody. See the EXACT moment the Meta realizes something. Turns to look at his daughter, then his wife. Looks back at the commissioner.

Says "No".

Is he right to do this? To Possess the Joker, as a life sentence, to insure the safety of others? He is perfectly will to sit that life in a jail cell. Knows he will never be allowed to roam free again. But! The Joker is contained.

Is this Right? Or merely emotionally satisfying?

DCU from a Marvel fans limited perspective

recently i've accidently been sucked into the DCU universe, mostly Bat family, if i'm being honest, and although i've never watched a single movie/episode, this is what i have gathered from purely reading the occasional fanfiction/lots of tumblr posts

SPOILERS i guess

There are A LOT of batkids

Bruce Wayne adopts these motherfuckers like they're some kind of limited edition pokemon set

no one is actually sure how many there are but if you have black hair and blue eyes and live in gotham, Batman doesn't care if you've got parents or not. you're coming home with him

There appears to be five Robins and Batman goes though these children like a chainsmoker with a pack of cigarettes

Jason Todd died and came back to life by being dumped in a pit of magical water

Damien Wayne is the only biological child of Bruce and he mentions this a lot

Dick Greyson was the first Robin and the first adoption and i think he and Bruce got in a fight and he left to become Nightwing

Jason Todd stole the Batmobile's wheels and became the second Robin. after he came back to life he became Red Hood

Tim Drake was not an orphan, he just fit Bruce's target demographic and was conveniently close (I mean come on, it's like express shipping) He is also some kind of super-genius. He was the third Robin but became Red Robin/Drake

Stephanie brown(?) was the fourth robin(?), not sure for how long. People get upset when other people forget. I think she's called Spoiler or something

your yellowjackets + soccer meta <3 i'm convinced and obsessed and would love to hear more!! do you have further character/relationship analysis you would like to share? (my personal fave is van having 100% save percentage and being seemingly unkillable she's so gonna beat stage IV cancer) and the missing attacking midfielder!! these ppl matched the characters' personalities with their soccer positions there is NO WAY that's not intentional. do you think she's an actual character we're yet to meet or just a symbol of the team being fractured? there's a missing link between defence+midfield and attack and so far allie's been yeeted right out of the plot and jackie died when the team froze her out and they tried to eat nat and she's very isolated from them and!!

i've heard the unkillable van theories and i think they have some merit im just not 100% on what it all means yet? especially since I think ? The writers planned to kill her off and then backed out of it. Idk i remember reading that somewhere. But it would be very goalkeeper-esque of her to leave treatment to the last minute, then miraculously recover.

But yeah the missing player thing is interesting because the corresponding missing number is 10. And that's Mari's number according to the wiki, though I dont think i've ever seen her wearing her numbered jersey. Of course the attacking midfielder doesnt have to wear a 10 its just tradition. Given thats theres 8 positions on a soccer field (and then 3 duplicates of them) its interesting we only know who played 7 of them. When theres 8 survivors and we only know 7, suddenly that choice to exclude a player feels relevant to that.

I dont know if this was meant to hint that Mari was or is meant to be the 8th survivor, or if that was changed at some point. I mean theres a girl wearing 16 in this photo

and thats Melissas number so it should be Melissa but we can clearly see it isnt her ! So things might have changed since the pilot in terms of whose assigned what number anyway. I think all this could be very unspecific, and nothing much more than a tiny little visual nod to us not knowing who the 8th survivor is.

Being totally honest, I'm kind of leaning towards the idea that likeliest reason one player is missing from the starting line up is to hint at the unknown. The attacking midfielder is a playmaker, usually considered to be thee playmaker, pulling the strings for the attack. I think the unknown player is probably meant to represent the wilderness more than anything. The fact that Jackie was disconnected from the rest of the team by the wilderness, and the way thats mirrored by the missing attacking midfielder, then makes so much sense. The attackers on this team in general tend to get cast out one way or another, like you said; Allie never even makes the plane, Jackie never learns to cope with the wilderness, and Nats the first to be chosen to die, only to survive to die in a future hunt anyway. Shes also about to get diposed (in a not unsimilar way to jackie) if the trailers are anything to go by.

The fact its the attacking positions who are so specifically targeted kind of feels like the wilderness pulling out the teams teeth. We see how the teams thriving under Nat in season 3, adapting to their environment, but she cant people manage the petty fights that are starting. The leader they need now is Jackie, but the wilderness took her already, so its all going to fall apart.

My Horizon 3 Wishlist, In no Particular Order.

Beta Sections, and what I want from them.

it's assumed that we're going to be playing as beta at some point in horizon 3. maybe as a tutorial, but definitely as a 'mary jane sections in a spider man game' type thing. here's what I want from it: i want to fucking play watch dogs.

and by this i mean, i want to be a hacker extrordinare. obviously beta will need to have some combat options, but give her greater control over the environment! give her long-range overrides, let her have greater control over the actions of a machine! (maybe to the point of directly controlling them, though her physical body still needs to be protected) i want hologram lures! remote detonating traps, a spider drone, i dont care as long as it feels like tech wiz beta and not Worse Aloy. unlike the mary jane sections, i don't want people to completely dread playing them.

generally just more beta, because she's my favorite!!!

The tone of the game: depress me a little!

the reality is at the time of horizon 3, the world is imminently about to end, and it is bigger, smarter, and scarier than anything before. the tone should be reflected in this.

you ever listened to 'how far we've come' by matchbox 20? that's what i want. i want a tone of 'we're going to try our hardest and not give up, but holy shit the world might end, and we have to reckon with that.'

Fubuki has a fun and glamourous aesthetic and I feel like the song reflects that too Bloody Mary - because of the "I wont crucify the things you do" line. it reminds me of all the people she knows that are like. highly problematic but she's irremovably tied into their lives and ultimately accepts them. Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) - there are relationships she's had that fell tragically because of, while among other things, her own personal flaws and ego. It's tragic, but she really wasn't equipped to handle everything thrown at her at the time. there really is "nothing else [she] can say" anymore. Imagining her with this song puts a lighthearted twist on the woe of it.

Replay - Lady Gaga is talking about trauma and PTSD taking over and effecting every part of her life, which I feel like is relevant. "Every single day, yeah I dig a grave Then I sit inside it wondering if I'll behave" I Like It Rough - I've always interpreted this song as only ever experiencing harshness from people, not knowing how process kindness, and struggling to decipher sincerity. Which I feel like, removed from all the sex stuff, fits Genos pretty well thematically. Shallow - I don't really mean this in a ship way here (to be honest, one sided genos pining is my ideal! But that's not relevant here) but I can think of this song with Genos and Saitama's relationship and how at its core, One Punch Man revolves around them. They represent the central themes of companionship and how humanity is based on relationships with others. They try to "fill that void" with each other and Genos looks at Saitama worried, when will it be enough? (When will HE be enough?) Also I enjoy listening to songs where there is some form of disappearance or death and imagining the MA arc. I did that a tonnn with Sweet Talking Woman by ELO a while back, something about mixing the love song about chasing someone with the tragedy of the MA arc and how Genos became unattainable really clicked for me. (Fun fact, I had 182 listens for that song on my Spotify wrapped... pretty much all thinking of Genos) I'm supposed to be talking about Lady Gaga though oops. "Crash through the surface, where they cant hurt us We're far from the shallow now." They've experienced the same alienation, whether inflicted or self imposed and were able to drag each other out of it. Perhaps there's comfort in the similarity. 👯: What canon character are you most similar to? oh! that's a fun one..... it kinda depends who hildegarde is around. if he's around nero the answer is 100% nero outwardly. (this is actually healthy for him in a sense since nero's inflated ego means hildegarde gets an inflated ego from being around him. self-love win!! bad news for everyone else, theyre insufferable) you have not met either of those characters yet but hildegarde sees a lot of himself in yotsuyu, & from a meta perspective he is similar to fordola as well. those are stormblood characters !! so you will see them soon!!!!! all three of them were tools of the empire at points in their lives at varying degrees of willingness, but hildegarde has an I'm Evil Person complex so he aligns himself with yotsuyu more since. well. yotsuyu is kind of evil yeah. Um. well i dont know i feel like since he's my s/i... he already has the characterisation i give him & i cant dissociate him from my beautiful mind timeline so it's hard to tell lmaoo. the actions he takes ingame (like with dialogue options) are all chosen with my timeline in mind so he probably wouldn't change much

the more i think abt it the more confused i become abt what exactly to call the kind of relationship all the funky guys have. like i guess found family, in the way the term is used in fandom, describes it well.... but idk as someone who goes way back w the trope & who used to forcefully cram characters i liked into neat family shaped boxes, the term does carry a kind of... weight to it? one might even call it cringe, but i feel like its more of a frustration with pidgeon-holeing and fandomisation as a whole. i think i just read one too many fics where characters in a found family start calling eachother siblings and mom and dad and uncle and honestly that kinda feels sorta. culty, even, to me rn?

which one the other hand thematically speaking does kinda fit - not literally as a cult but more in the way theyre all so codependent and struggle to find a life outside of these dynamics. these ppl DO love each other bc they HAD to to survive and stay relatively sane but also that means this is not a very healthy arrangement. i think that rigid language might fit here thematically bc it represents them all unconciously replicating all the flaws and problems a regular family would have instead of trying to make something better. they (mostly tashi) are falling back on what they know abt how ppl who love each other should act and view each other. which also on a more meta level is just me being rlly fascinated with the fandom idea of a found family and deciding to kinda. bring the idea as far as i can? showing what fucked up dynamics could sprout if you threw a bunch of traumatised freaks together and forced them to play house lest they die in the wilderness alone.

like. when i started dabbling in trying to write for this au, i quickly found that describing them all as a family felt kinda. weird? it just didnt feel right. it felt trope-y, fandomised, flanderised (which is really funny if you consider that this au is in many aspects just that, as much as id like to pretend otherwise). and i have to wonder how much of that is the term not fitting in-universe, and how much is just me looking back at my younger self's less nuanced takes and wanting to have nothing to do with them?

in the end, in-universe, as much as it kinda cringes me out i think the funky guys do very much describe themselves as a family & as siblings - partially bc they do love each other platonically very much and thats just the only term they really knew to describe what they are, and partly for convinience bc its way easier to tell ppl theyre just a bunch of siblings than itd be to 1. explain the whole clone thing and 2. delve into the complexities of all of their relationships in great detail.

and also bc i think describing it as a family makes them more eager to stick together? i think tashi does very much weaponise that, either conciously or subconciously ('we are family, you cant leave!! im your big brother, i know whats best for you')(the thing abt tashi is that hes very good at reading ppl AND hes got separation anxiety AND is a bit of a self righteous idiot and this results in him being kinda manipulative and guilt trippy at times, esp when hes in distress.)

so like. the thing im trying to get at is. the love was there, the love IS still there, and thats kinda the whole problem! they all trapped themselves in this rigid form of relationship, but also around the stickbug mind control arc it all starts to kinda fall apart(sticks Whole deal, webby turning 18, soup wanting to branch out and develop new relationships, buds crippling guilt making them kinda an asshole, tashi getting progressively worse and worse to be around as he falls apart, and ryou being 13 and stuck in the middle of all of it) and none of them rlly know how to handle it.

i dont rlly have a solid idea to what happens after the mind control stuff, aside from the kuro stuff and the fact stick and een do definetely move out again after stick recovers. but the rest? its kinda one big vague 'its slowly and painfully and messily gets better'. this story has always been about making the best of a shitty situation, i think. about people forming deep meaningful bonds but still being messy and stupid and hurting each other, and abt how you can never turn back time and fix all the shit you did wrong in the past, but maybe, if the love is there, if you still want the love to be there after all of that shit, maybe you can try again.

i have watched bdubs and scar and so im gonna talk abt SL again like i did before. obvs spoilers!

i keep my posts pretty meta/only about the game, its mechanics, balance etc so i have no bias on players own actions. but i do want to talk about players and the final moments for a minute here!

obvs i like bdubs a lot and hes been very good at getting to almost the finals in all the series. hope ppl realize that more. if he had more hearts like scar did im sure he could of have gotten further too. etho's ep isnt out but i saw him die in scar's and scar's ep was wild for sure. i mean damn, there was hardly a way etho could have escaped scar when he landed right on top of him, insane. obvs i dont have a view on the others i havent watched but it was interesting to see how they ganged up in this series for the end. scar winning made me happy too, hes a really good player!!

bbut onto the gameplay. i dont wanna repeat myself so im kinda using this as an overall conclusion + specific thoughts about the finale.

its been established clearly that mods assign specific tasks to people at times. and the warden/wither + bogey were not something i enjoyed. this season felt way too "directed" as it went on... and i also think the tasks ability to grant you so much good stuff (a LOT of hearts) is what kept everyone out of being red so easily! which is probably why they did the bogey zombies. which is really just poor balance that no one clearly tested (i recall grian implying before that they dont really test anything but dont quote me on that). maybe a way to have improved that would have been reds were the only ones to gain hearts, and yellow/greens could not. i knew from the start that the heart giving mechanics this season were kind of pointless or overpowered. gifting one heart? really...? that doesnt add up to much of anything in the long run imo unless you manage to get hearts from multiple people. and then on top of that you get hearts back from the secret keeper too. i would have loved if this season was simply "no regen and thats it!" like a sorta UHC deal where you only can heal with specific items (and not 30 hearts prob? bc i understand the tasks were kind of a way to possibly make them die).

on big forced tasks it only made sense with this episode, since everyone is red, so i dont mind that. but again.... they had to force this to happen which is annoying to me. also in terms of balance i really wished they bring back strict rules on enchantments because that also gets frustrating to watch. but perhaps i just like fairness in combat due to watching so much UHC, which also is a death game.

the other issues i had were with reds and red tasks. as pointed out they forced reds in the previous sessions but no one had any time to do red tasks?? and admittedly it was kind of boring bc people couldnt interact about it without failing. but they could not team up properly and i think that is what red life is all about. all the reds coming together because they *need* to face yellows and greens, and hunt people down. but instead the few reds there had to be alone to do their traps, another social issue with this series where tasks often pulled people away from others and left them with videos where they were very alone. there being no space for greens and yellows to exist and get hunted is something i think is great in previous seasons too and it just didnt happen. all that getting forced in that one session just didnt flow well to me.

really even trying to look back at episodes, i cant recall any notable interactions between people i enjoyed minus some brief pauses when they were traveling to do their tasks. there just wasnt a lot of typical socializing! and thats what i didnt like with this series. this plus the balance issues of lives just made this series feel messy, and the length of the episodes due to tasks could be kind of boring if the task was boring or even felt too stressful to force them into places where they could just die (these kinds of dangerous tasks given to greens or yellows felt unfair, as if it was trying to force them to die, and as a viewer i wouldnt want the game make my fave die!).

and as i mentioned in a different post, the lack of fixing some issues in multiple seasons is wild to me. this season faced the same issue as limlife where deaths were not in chat. the episode after, they fixed it (still with some bugs). and then it happened again last session.... and they didnt fix it! this is also annoying bc people dont react to the deaths at all which you kind of wanna see you know? actually im not even sure why they still did it this way. i imagined the clock running out made it more complicated for the system of fying to work. but why this season....? seemed like pretty forward deaths. idk the tech side, but they had 3 solid lives like all the other season, and there were never issues with the death messages happening at all.

but anyways. theres multiple parts of this i mentioned above that just made this gimmick feel so messy and unbalanced, and sometimes not super interesting to watch. it was way too complicated some times. i know theyll likely never do a repeat of the old versions but man idk if i cant find myself liking future seasons if they start stacking so much on top of what is a simple concept. it has started to feel like the three lives havent mattered at all/arent really the focus-- the anxiety of having three times. and the stakes become less and less due to some of these new gimmicks (the ability to gain lives in so many easy ways- limlife and secret life- is why imo) makes death feel less of a problem especially when we know how buddy buddy everyone is now. people need to be limited like before, and be more anxious. 3L, LL, and DL had people quickly establishing their friends bc they knew right from the get go that the series really depended on them being alive and nothing else. the only focus was to stay alive and not die. DL was where ppl kinda chilled a bit on alliances bc they knew each other more but, death was still right around the door with health being tied, it still brought a similar kind of anxiety for players.

i do hope people like grian can recognize these issues behind the scenes bc genuine critique for this series/season is important. like i hope they dont brush off the fact "hall monitors" were an issue-- they can ignore them openly in their videos.... but there is a reason why its a problem that started at all. the concept was way too subjective and hard to judge! so id hate for them to decide "eh, lets not listen to them, im gonna keep doing this and not consider the issue for a new season" right? and hour long episodes? thats crazy, and i dont think it was good for a lot of cc imo, because it made me way less likely to watch or even finish others' episodes. i hope that makes sense... stakes need to be raised, and i think limlife still achieved that to some degree because time was still very sensitive and risky to take. but then SL comes in bringing way too many things that keep them alive far too easily, leaving very little concern as long as they got their task in.

and last thing is from the outside pov i get concerned about this season happening only 6 months after the last one. because that would very very easily cause a burn out/inability to make more gimmicks real quick. i find this particularly odd bc this season too place through multiple holidays...! not sure if they thought this one through very well. considering how much limlife changed things in a way that was a bit more complicated, and then have SL with even more going on.... id just be worried about how much new stuff would even be made after this.

before this season started i was thinking to myself that i would be fine if this was the last one (it was speculation off some posting 3L compilations that was being me think itd be 'over' bc that was the first season). and truly i would be fine if they stopped forever for for a long time. i dont want to start disliking this series if they keep going in this direction... i will ALWAYS enjoy seeing these people play together and it will no doubt keep me watching but, i would hope that i will enjoy what they do for the next seasons and not fall down this path of convoluted, unbalanced and complicated concepts.

the appeal of limited characters is generally they are 1) pretty much meta-breaking and have insane gameplay value, especially in endgame content and 2) they have very, very long and detailed events that let you get to know the character in the hopes of getting attached enough to pull. and honestly? it kind of works. deren, the first limited, is super super popular, and shalom, well. maybe a year ago, there was a most popular female character poll on weibo, and shalom was in the lead by a million votes. yao, the most recent limited, had quite a touching event as well. in any case, i have utmost faith in the dev team’s and writers team’s ability to storytell because i swear they haven’t dropped the ball since the game started (looking at you, hyv) so yeah, tldr, aisno’s strategy with their limiteds work because they’re good enough to make it work LMAO

im so glad u watched 19 bc i truly have soooo many thoughts on like theres so much potential & really good scenes there but so many misses. the tex part is easily the best part of it though i still cant believe it actually happened. i kinda wish sarge's death was off screen like you see them watch him die but give him no final words sort of deal... i feel like it wouldve been a better plot device rather than the longer scene if sarge saying what he's feeling as he dies. sorry i keep thinking about that its my main thing i wouldve changed. well that and putting wash back in prison instead of a mental facility because i think a prison break with untreated mental illness couldve done more than ....... whatever the hell the wash scenes were. restoration is easily the best set up for fanwork ive seen in a while tho NGL the meta tucker concept is soooo fun i wish it got explored more. sorry im rambling in ur askbox now LOL

YESSS sorry for the late response. im glad rvb restoration dropped hwen it did so ic ould watch it irl with my girlfriend but it did happen to be during the most busy month of my year so obviously my blogging has been completely slacking. i really love this final line that apparently sarge was going to say. i think its more sweet and poetic than him spelling out how hes feeling about simmons and grif in particular

no yeah my biggest issue is just like. this felt like a vehicle for like, meta scenes saying goodbye to the reds and the blues, but the actual like "plot" of the season didnt really have any time to develop and had to just be quick weird scenes that were just kind of tonally dissonant and not really polished or treated with the same kind of care and deftness he was able to handle mixing the humor and plot elements of the recollections trilogy. both due to the runtime, him being out of the game for so long, and needing to do a full plot in one season instead of three. it really felt bare bones. which is fine it's just like, obviously you can see that its not the best, and i feel like if it was going to just be a vehicle for sappy goodbye to rvb as a property scenes i wish it had just gone all in and given us more interactions between the different characters. idk. im not really sure how id fix it aside from just having my own completely differnet version of their future in my head but ive already kind of written that post out for my post chorus vision lmao. dumpster baby forever...

META TUCKER IS REALLY FUN AND I COULDNT BE TOO MAD AT IT because it was literally a type of concept that epsilontucker riffed on after the open ended s13 (oh my god rip epsilontucker i think im gonna be sick). but his scenes again felt pretty jarring nad just put in there to keep the season moving and wahh why did they torture him for 10 fucking years ahhh scary AHHH. yeah, now that you said it it really does feel like. the bare bones of an incredible 250k word fanfic written by someone who has a different more serious tone than the original series like, put my guns in the ground style, moreso than an rvb season LMFAO but that's fine if anyones still in the fandom and cares to do that i'd love to see it. idk. im rambling. it was a good fun stream and i liked individual scenes but it was definitely all over the place for me

bugs relationship with god/religion is weeeeird. when it came to her parents, her mother had a hybrid religion of mi'kmaw beliefs and christian ones. her dad was just a straight catholic though he wasn't really practising aside from when he wanted moral high ground or to scold his children. bug went to chapel with his mother pretty frequently just because she was a very lonely woman after her marriage and it was the place where she got to socialise most. which means religion is more of a nostalgic concept to bug, versus a thing that she actually believes in. she sometimes shamefully and privately indulges in a visit to sunday service or confession. it's a comfort and reminder of her mother. but bug thinks people are predetermined to be bad or good, and bad people cant be saved from their nature. so by association, catholicism and the act of being saved/reborn by jesus just seems Fake to him! or you could argue that in fact it's a very catholic way of thinking due to the original sin and blah blah... depends on your outlook...

sal is a bit more standard. he's from a big italian family so hes catholic, naturally. but you know, in a standard hypocritical way. he'll go to church frequently to see his family, all of the weddings and funerals are held there, and he's got a plethora of religious tattoos. but also killing people? well. he will do that! instead of having religious guilt, i think sal has taken an exact opposite stance of bug, and thinks "well jesus loves me and is gonna forgive me no matter what i do and i'm thankful for that. i know i'm a flawed person but it's fine in the eyes of the lord if i repent so whatever."

as mentioned, bug is a huge essentialist. the biggest! she thinks your fate and who you are is a person is predetermined. usually by where you're born or who your parents are or if you're a little fucked up as a kid. he's held this outlook since she was a teenager. it's partially just coping because she thinks she doesn't deserve anything better in life and so she shrugs and goes "i was born to be a shitty criminal with bad relationships anyway". but regardless, it has been a point of contention between her and michael specifically. (though like many people with flawed philosophies borne out of insecurity, bug undermines his own way of thinking sometimes)

sal's hot take is that murder is actually fine..... ok no not really but he's a firm believer in 'don't get pissy with me if you enter a criminal lifestyle then get hurt'. he's a very no-nonsense, almost lazy kind of criminal, and he refuses to do politics. it's why he was never fit for organised crime. he thinks if you are stupid enough to have your family even remotely involved in your criminal lifestyle, then why should he perceive them as off-limits? sure maybe a deal can be struck but if just shooting someone's snitch wife benefits him more then he'll do it! this will definitely get him murdered later on but whatever... its his 'code'...

How did you choose your OC’s name?

hehe awesome question actually. some meta lore can be dropped now... bug as a concept was actually written up like five years ago in my google docs. and when i was revsiting the gta v fandom, i was like "huh i swear i used to have an oc for this in like 2020?" and i went looking. and lo and behold there it was, untouched!!! anyway. she was always originally melissa - though the OG melissa was very different and worked as a jewellery store clerk in north yankton. when i was completely rehauling her character, i sort of messed around with alternative names (ramona was #1 for some reason) but nothing felt really right. then when i was writing in the military portion of her backstory, i remembered having a conversation with a friend about how military nicknames are always really stupid instead of being 'cool'. i already had a loose design mapped out for bug and knew i wanted her to have big stupid eyes and i pinned the nickname as "bug-eyes" because it's overly literal, stupid, and not cool at all. it eventually got shortened to 'bug' while she was in the military because i imagine bug-eyes was a bit of a mouthful. despite hating her time in the military, bug kept the name after she left. mostly because its gender-affirming but he doesn't have enough insight about gender identity to know that. she always just says it 'sounds cooler' even though it totally doesn't. so i guess bug's full name is actually melissa "bug-eyes" david!!

sal is sadly less cool of a story!!! he's simply named after famous mobster salvatore maranzano. who has a cool story i must say i did that deep dive on his wikipedia page... he was named back when i thought itd be cool to give him some ties to the italian-american mafia but then i thought nahhh its funnier if he's just some dude with his own thing going on. he does love pretending he is a gangster sometimes though so he'll probably tell you all about it while sloshed.

wolfgirl: shes probably the closest thing to the straight man in the main trio but only because wilhelm and lucy are each such uniquely weird and chaotic people. really shes more like the group cynic. she is less interested in being a part of whatever Shenanigans the other two, or at least pretends to be, so she comes off as more responsible by default.

wilhelm: instigator, problem creator, eccentric genius but heavier on the eccentric than the genius. imo the biggest challenge an immortal vampire can face is boredom. the second biggest challenge is not getting so determined to never be bored that you forget that your friends arent immortal and cant keep joining you to do things thatd shorten a normal persons lifespan by proximity alone.

wolfgirl:

only known one of their kind. while theyre sometimes thought to be a kind of werewolf or other animal shifter, signs point to the possibility that wolfgirl is something else entirely, something that no one else seems to be familiar with and which alienates them somewhat even in community of monsters.

hidden troubled past. shes kind of naturally private person and doesnt take respond well to folks who try to pry into her business, much less her personal history. even wilhelm, who knew her for years before they met lucy, only knows vague details from the time before he met her.

haunted by guilt. when under enough stress or encountering specific triggers wolfgirl sometimes experiences hallucinations of the guardian she killed while escaping his captivity.

working out their emotions. at wilhelm's suggestion(/insistence) wolfgirl took up playing the drums basically as an excuse to hit things in a contained, non-destructive way.

the reliable one, by default. already p much explained above. wilhelm is impulsive and prone to fixation and lucy is in a lot of ways still new to the world, which makes wg regularly worry about them being taken advantage of, us much as they'd deny it.

wilhelm:

careless immortal. as alluded to above, wilhelm doesnt spare a lot of concern for potential risk or danger. vampires in this world are immortal and fast healing. however they are not invulnerable to all forms of harm, such as illness, intoxication, exhaustion, magical affliction, poisoning, etc. they just wont die from them. but trying to convince wilhelm he probably shouldnt be consuming nothing but energy drinks is still an uphill battle.

jilted ex. wilhelm has long ongoing beef with his sire, charlotte, who is also his ex-gf/fiance?? kinda? once upon a time they were supposed to run away together and be in love for all eternity, but then wilhelm realized she was kind of a possessive toxic weirdo who turned him without his consent so she wouldnt have to give him up to his arranged-fiance. after hundreds of years theyve found themselves accidentally in the same city and neither of them is very happy about it.

left at the alter. if you count promising to run away with charlotte, wilhelm has a current record of two fiances ditched within days before the wedding date. which isnt that many, but its weird that it happened twice.

virtuoso. immortality gives a guy a lot of time to practice a lot of different instruments. he has the longest history with classical piano and cello but is personally much more into darkwave and post-punk and weird experimental electronic shit of all kinds. he has cultivated a musical style one can only describe as "relentless".

pest best bud. he will be your friend whether you like it or not. and you may not! wilhelms kind of a handful, he has a big personality and isnt one to read the room, but hes the kind of person that like if you let him in, or he finds a way to get under your skin regardless, youre friends for life. wont stop him from being a little annoying tho.
