I want her to be very much like. Kind motorcyclist. Just looking to give some guy a ride. they never remember her face or her name and she never stops driving, but eventually the road theyre driving on just goes on, and on. And everything is so loud and cold and they want to scream and they want to go but their limbs feel like lead and. And at some point she dropped them off, but they're begging her to take them for another ride. somewhere back home. their original destination. and when she's not there for them when they turn around they'll have become so lost that theres nothing there.

Which of course sounds nice and all but I really want there to be more to her than Depressing Motorcycle Ride yk

Alongside that, however, she's a lady who goes out to bars to find people predisposed to loneliness and romance them and flirt with them until theyre alone with her, and just ghosting them into the lonely in the middle of a makeout session. Hello? hi? Getting quite literally lost in someones eyes because they're too desperate for connection to realise theyre slipping away, and once no one in the world exists but her then they stsrt to dissapear too. Okay? Okay. in anycase, I was struck by the sort of Time Dilation-like trance you get from driving motorcycles for long periods of time. Everything just passes by in a blur yk. you know you can see people you know you can feel the rain on your back, but the wind and the mist just kind of glide over you and it's peaceful....

I have suuuch a visceral vision of a statement giver describing her cigarette smoke. It would have filled them with warmth, It should have put fire in their blood, sparks in their brain— but it just seeped cold until their bones ached for something to anchor onto. The chilling mist brushing their nape like a lover. And its suffocating and its so, so frigid and they feel so alone in her touch, but what else is there? Next thing they know even SHES not there and theyre wandering through the lonely just looking for something to hold but their haaaands keep passinggg through everythingggg and im just. WOUGH

One of the more important and reoccurring details of her are her smiley face keychain and her leather biker jacket with "YOU HAVE NO ONE BUT YOURSELF" etched on the back. Mostly unimportant but I just wanted you all to know. Hehe

my friend just texted me after finishing watching Monte Cristo adaptations and asked me why man went so hard on revenge shit because it’s not like his time in prison was that bad and he had treasure on him why not just move on or do it other way

see that’s what I mean by adaptations missing the key point of his imprisonment time

without knowing what happened in château d’if, without understanding how much of his life was destroyed here along with his psyche and morals, without understanding that he was so destroyed that by the time he met abbe faria, even faria himself high key was regretting teaching/telling dantes who screwed him over because at this point he helped to finalize monster in dantes, because if faria didn’t tell him that, dantes would’ve never even decided to have revenge because he didn’t had need/target for it

i just keep noticing that people who watch adaptations without reading source material always get confused on ‘why’ of his revenge because the start and result don’t weight the same for them and such people more than right to ask the question what stopped him from starting new life with treasures faria left him

dantes with his wealth honestly could’ve simply hired assassins or mercenaries to kill people he deems responsible for his demise and call it a day. but no, he wastes even more of his years for a revenge and even went overboard with it because it’s extremely personal for him in his broken unhinged mind. his broken psyche concluded that death would be too easy for them, they need to go through equal amounts of hell he went through. because his revenge is more psychological torture focused than physical one, he is a broken man who doesn’t understand he overstepped boundaries of equal revenge and only snaps out of it when his plans backfire on people uninvolved.

his hyperfixation on such hard to execute and too complex revenge is pretty much what is keeping what remains of his broken mind and morals intact, since he in his head (as well as narrative) justifies his actions and goals based on what he went trough in prison. because if abbe faria didn’t unintentionally given him a goal, a target of revenge, even if he proceeded to escape and find a treasure, he simply would’ve started his life anew.

so yea adaptations missing on fatalism and mindfuckery of his time in château d’if is what ruins them all. book really gives you time to savor the shit he went through here, starting from time passage, changing of his cells and how ‘life’ around goes up to his mood and behavior changes through years, from hopeful hysterical boy to depressed apathetic half corpse who ironically considered his jailers as some sort of friends he can talk to even if they don’t talk back to him anymore

Since we're talking names, I went to the fandom wiki to dig into Mirio's real name and hero name a bit more, and I'm even more convinced of my interpretation of his character and the depths to which he is meant to be a foil for Izuku.

Both of their hero names are calls to action created from puns of their given names. The first character of Izuku's name can be read as "de" which Bakugou used to call him Deku, worthless/a wooden doll, which Ochako reinterpreted as dekiru as in "you can do it!". Izuku writes his hero name in accordance with Ochako's interpretation, but it's still a homophone with how he was called by Bakugou. And that "you can do it!" is simultaneously Izuku's aspirations for himself, a callback to his origin, and a call to action for others.

Mirio's name is close to a homophone with the Japanese pronunciation of million, and his hero name is Lemillion. His goal is to save a million people. He lacks the ambition to save everyone or create a new framework for their society. Assuming Japan's population was around 126.8 million people during this chapter, Mirio's highest ambition was to save approximately one percent of the population. It's a grand goal for an average pro hero, but for a supposed fledging symbol that goal is nothing special.

There are conflicting indications in Mirio's name concerning One for All. Mirio's name does fit within the number pattern for One for All successors. His surname contains a kanji that can also be read as ten just like the "ku" in Izuku's name is a homophone for nine. But, his surname, Togata, can also be read as "conformity", which is the opposite of the role of a One for All successor.

All the One for All users went against the grain of their time. The first three went against the man who first brought society back together again after the Dawn of Quirks (because he was trying to rule over everything). Shinomori rejected the existing society entirely and lived in the woods. Banjo through Nana were swimming against the tide trying to keep society together and fight the ultimate villain during times of turmoil. All Might was an orphan who came from nothing who aspired to be a pillar for society to progress. Izuku had ambitions to include those excluded/disempowered by All Might's era of peace (not that Izuku thinks poorly of All Might but they have disagreements concerning questions like can everyone be saved or are their inherently evil quirks).

Mirio's rationality and achievable, grounded goals just don't mesh well with the ethos of One for All despite the surface level compatibility.

Tl;dr: Mirio isn't crazy enough to be a One for All successor
