// Hello everyone! It’s been some time since my previous post, and a lot has happened since then. As usual I was busy with the end of the semester, which made it difficult to pick up the pace with writing again.
I’ve written that last sentence dozens of times, which is why I started going to a psychologist last year to figure out how to best deal with my stress during studies and exams, as well as my trouble focusing, both of which prevent me from engaging in my hobbies.
Well, one thing led to another, and as I’ve recently found out, I have ADHD!
Needless to say it’s put a lot of things into perspective. I don’t want to get into it too much, but I’ll just say that it’s been a really positive experience getting to better understand why I feel and act the way I do, and what I can do to handle it better. Not to mention extremely relieving and vindicating in relation to things I really didn’t understand and had been growing really frustrated with over the years.
Between this, getting closer to the end of studies and getting an internship, it’s been a time of big news for me and a feeling of change. I’ll be working during the Summer, but my schedule does leave plenty time to spend on my hobbies without getting distracted by studies.
Now, I can’t say how I’ll be feeling later on, but I’m excited about this change. I want to make the most of this and bring back a habit of writing, even if at a relaxed pace, plus I’ve been playing Elden Ring (haven’t reached the DLC though- so don’t worry, I won’t be discussing spoiler territory here for the time being) and it’s been great inspiration.
I hope we’ll be seeing each other a lot more often in the near future. Take care and may the coming days treat you well!
#ooc#apologies for the quiet! I'd say it was poor timing with the new blog buuuut it's been more of a pattern#but this marks a very substantial change in my life. By comparison my time of low activity is relatively short!#Silliness aside thank you for your patience. I'm going to do my best to write more often again#it feels like things are moving quickly in some places for the first time in years and I'm excited to keep doing things#get to them swiftly and postpone them no more#I do wonder if any of you had your suspicions about this discovery before I did :y#it's been a really good month#wishing you a good one too this July :]

Madrid Week 4: the rhythm of the night
Holaaaaa otra vez!! Niko here again, back with another blog for week 4 of studying abroad in Madrid! This week marked my official first month in the city, which means that I’m 1 month down of 3.5 (or 2/9ths of the way through). I wonder how my perspective of the city and life here will have changed by the 4/9 point, by 8/9 point, and when I’m finally gone. I guess we’ll both have to wait to find out ;).
This week, February 13th, was my birthday. I turned 21 years old — which is a pretttty big deal in the United States. 21 is like the final frontier of birthdays. After that, anything (except for renting a car, for some reason) (and also running for president) is possible. Order a beer? Done. Get into a club? No problem. Is it weird to me that we can join the military before those things? Yes, but I don’t know enough about the prohibition era to make a substantial claim on the laws we have in the USA.
Being that it was a Tuesday and I wasn’t quite in the partying mood, I went out for a nice dinner with a friend and bought myself churros for the walk home -- perfect birthday tbh. However, an American in America turning 21 will typically go out, buy alcohol legally, get into some bars with their actual ID (maybe Rick’s for my UMich people, which is finally on-limits :0 ), and likely get very very drunk with their friends. In Spain, that doesn’t happen for 21 year olds — or 18 year olds, for that matter.
I think that the basic differences in drinking culture between the USA and Europe are somewhat well known. To generalize: binge drinking is much less common in Europe; people may drink more but pace themselves out over the course of many hours; people start partying late and stay out much later. However, living in Spain and experiencing the nightlife firsthand has given me a new understanding of this culture — and I’ve found that it’s a rhythm I really enjoy.
An Aside on Work-life Balance
In Madrid, the people place a lot of value on social life — which lasts throughout adulthood. I think that in the United States, social life ends up giving way to work for many adults as they get older and their career becomes more demanding. In Spain, people subscribe moreso to the ideal of “working to live” instead of “living to work”.
This is a generalization, but I think it’s a fair one to make in comparison to the culture of the USA. This perspective may be a product of the bubble I live in as a student studying abroad, but the "competitive, always-searching-for-the-next-opportunity, never-staying-complacent (satisfied?)-with-your-current-position" vibe is something I have not yet felt or witnessed here. I think that difference can be explained in part by the USA's strong capitalistic nature (and Europe's slightly more socialist environment), but I'm no expert ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I don’t think that I want to subscribe fully to either ideal.
I don’t want my work to be my life. I think that I value a lot of things higher than money — relationships, new experiences, personal growth — and that's where I want to focus. However, working is an unavoidable part of life for (almost) everyone. I think that treating the idea of work as a career something to be developed, something to find passion in, something that adds to your life instead of taking away from it — will enable me to live a happier life. And, to become truly satisfied in my career, I’m gonna have to put in that effort.
I think that the key to maintaining a healthy relationship towards work is deriving that hard-work mentality from within, instead of from the pressure of outside influences (living up to expectations, competition with others, greed, etc). In this way, achievements will be something I can be proud of myself for -- especially because I did those things in alignment with my own contentment and happiness. Admittedly, this conclusion is spoken from my "very wise" position of having had only 1 full time internship and a few part time service jobs, but this is where I'm at with my experience pursuing a college degree. Guess we'll see how it turns out down the road.
Nightlife
Anyways, back to partying in Madrid. House parties don’t really exist like the do in the USA, or frankly, at all. This is partly because there’s an ordinance that prohibits loud noises indoors at night, and partly because there’s no need for them — there’s a seemingly infinite amount of bars and clubs to go to, on every night of the week (yes, including Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).
First, you’ll have dinner, shared with a group of friends and never earlier than 8pm — usually closer to 10pm. Pregames (previas) might happen at someone’s apartment, they might happen on the street, either on the way to the club or in a group just chilling (botellon). In general, (especially with young people), as much alcohol as possible is consumed outside of the club, for economical reasons. A beer bought at the corner store is half the price and twice the size than at the bar. The streets in Madrid, especially on the weekend, are always lively. Simply walking around popular areas is an energizing feeling.
If you’re going out dancing to a club, you might also hit a few bars beforehand, which are more commonly frequented a bit earlier in the night - 12am ish is peak.
Like I mentioned previously, things also start late. A club will not be in full swing until 3am. If you arrive to a club at 12 (which is when most of them open), you’ll be dancing alone on the floor. This is in stark contrast to the USA, where at 3am, you might be dancing alone because everyone else has already gone home. Things will start to wind down around 5am on weekends, and a dedicated group will still be around at 6am when the lights turn on to kick everybody out.
Personally, I love this rhythm. Starting so late, you get a full day in beforehand — and much more time with friends spent during the night. Drinks are consumed slowly, and far fewer will end up on the toilet at the end of the evening. Things feel more relaxed, less like we're on a time crunch — probably because there’s simply more time to party.
I’ve only got one big qualm in comparison to the USA — sleep. If you’re out until 6am on Saturday, you’re probably sleeping until 3pm at the earliest. Which kind of throws off your Sunday. If you were looking to grab brunch, or god forbid be productive, forget it. But maybe, a loss of productivity isn't such a big deal. I would love to hear from you all what you feel about the work/productivity culture in the USA, and how you perceive (or have experienced) it in different cultures.
So, needless to say, I have been partying a good amount, and I think I’ve been doing so in a pretty authentically Spanish way. I’ll spare details on my escapades, but I’ll include some pictures (along with some more in depth descriptions) that may give a little insight into the ~vibes~. I’m a big fan of electronic music, and Madrid’s scene for that is vast.
For anyone reading this that’s going to Madrid sometime soon — either for studying abroad, vacation, or whatever else — I’ve been putting together this list of all the nightlife sites I’ve gone to, with little descriptions on my thoughts accompanying each one. I hope it serves at least a few people well, and spares them the work of finding the places that are a little less obvious to non-natives.
Hope everyone has a fantastic week! :)
Hasta luego,

Chiming in with my own ADHD/Autistic experiences with gaining and feedism!
I have a lot of sensory issues around clothing, so tight clothes really bother me unless I'm, like, actively really horny about outgrowing clothing, and sizing up clothing is a huuuge pain in the ass because I'm SO particular about what clothes I wear.
It affects me even without realizing it sometimes, too - nearly every time I find myself thinking negatively about my size or insecure about gaining weight, I check in with myself and I'll realize that my clothes are a little tight or uncomfortable on me, and I'll change my clothes and immediately feel better!
It can be hard outgrowing clothes I get very attached to too, so I keep them aside as "sentimental value" clothing (and it means I get to try them on for comparison as I gain! 😊). So even though tight clothes and outgrowing wardrobes are hot tropes in theory, they aren't that simple when it comes to real life for me.
I also honestly don't actually love the sensations in the weeks immediately after gaining a noticeable amount of weight either. It may seem contradictory as someone who enjoys weight gain, but when I feel skin touching skin with new rolls or when my arms brush against other parts of me they didn't before, or stretch marks get itchy, or new jiggling sensations, or clothing hangs on my body differently -- it's a lot of new sensory input to get used to! It just takes time to get used to, and sometimes, again, changing clothing helps, but it can also be a good reminder to take things slowly at my own pace.
A lot of change fast can be disorienting and make me feel ungrounded, so as hot as rapid weight gain fantasies are, I find slow and barely more than passive gaining is the smoothest and most enjoyable ride for me.
As everyone else here has said, there are no boxes when it comes to your kink and body and/or sexuality! The people who stuff and chug cream do it because they like it, or at least some aspect of it. It might seem like the only way people ever talk about gaining, but remember that in online spaces we're projecting our own fantasies: stuffing and shakes and chugging are everywhere because a lot of us think that's a super hot way to gain.
But, having been here forever, I notice that the people who have sustained substantial gains without burning out fast, like >250lbs, often over 10+ years, all have really similar things to say about how they got where they are: building habits to consistently eat more throughout the day and/or at meals. I hear over and over that consistency and actually enjoying what you eat is key rather than relying on shakes and stuffings, which can help some people break plateaus or have growth spurts, but are not very sustainable as the sole method of weight gain for most people.
Cream chugging was actually not even super common 10+ years ago when I first ran into these online spaces, and padding was a lot more common, so even the things that seem ubiquitous among feedists and gainers online are really not: they're very individual, and popular themes and tropes come and go.
Anyway, take what you want, leave what you don't, and have fun! There are so many amazing sensory experiences with gaining and eating and this is a very slow-burn kink! Spend that time on the sensations that YOU love about eating and gaining.
as someone who is on the spectrum, i kind of wish there was more posts in the community that related to both feedism and neurodivergence/autism
like, for example, i have a lot of sensory concerns, so there are some things holding me back in my gain because i can’t find a way around it on my own
i end up spending near $50 buying way too much food so i can attempt to stuff myself, but i hate the feeling of being stuffed afterwards so much to where i don’t feel like i want to eat anymore
that can also be just stuffing in general, but more sensory related things that i feel are halting my gain are the thoughts of tastes and textures of some things people in the community have used to skyrocket their own gains
i’m talking weight gain shakes, straight heavy cream, melting butter, melting ice cream, etc.
in retrospect, i know for a fact heavy frequent consumption of the above would do wonders for me and get me out of my plateau of 300lbs, but from a neurodivergent standpoint i know it would be a sensory nightmare
if any of that makes sense
#Also my ADHD meds affect my appetite a lot and I get taste-fatigue SO easily#And as someone who's actually much more encourager/feeder oriented the executive functioning and energy#that it takes to be a feeder is too much for me so it stays in fantasy#c'est la vie#But it means I get to enjoy subby feeder/encourager + dom feedee/gainer fantasies instead so that's fun :3

i was going thru ur blog and u have good posts about ableist aus and i was wondering - what if in the aus the requirements for warriors were different? Like instead of having to fight jay only hunts? Would the muddling of roles still be ableist? In a Tree-like situation? If its not presented in a "work super hard to get what you want" and more in a "yeah they can decide what he wants to do". This is mostly for jay (and cinder) specifically because they had desires to be warriors yet were forced to be medicine cats because of ableism (ig this can apply to briar but i just truly cant remember oots that well and i havent read her death). I am asking because i am still trying to unlearn the ableist mindset that i grew up with. Feel free to ignore this ask and thnx!
hey yeah thank you for asking! took the opportunity to write up more general thoughts on rewrites as a whole and i went over why exactly theyre ableist hopefully that provides a better perspective
i think the major thing to keep in mind is that the structure of the clans is very abled centric and overly ignorant of inner community work (for example dens are only solidified or altered when either the area takes damage/the clans grows wrt population) theres a fixation on marking territory and starting fights and whatever with other clans which is whats expected of most warriors to partake in. to fix those implications in any fanwork youve really gotta knead into them and understand the nature of their ableism....its not just a problem with cats being barred from being warriors its the whole occupation and the standard its held to, so to speak (+ that fits into general clan society being flawed but eh thats another thing and also its easy to branch out into thought about)
going to stress other disabled people might have other solutions to how disabled cats are received this is just how i like to think of things
first i think its kind of interesting to examine discrepancies between disabled cats in canon as somewhat of an indicator of clan attitudes and leaders and whatnot. like i think you could get something interesting by regarding lets say deadfoot in windclan and cinderpelt in thunderclan who both have bad legs yet had different experiences with them in clan life. if you wanna go a step further comparing generations like lilywhisker and deadfoot or cinderpelt and jayfeather (+ the consideration of how congenital disabilities are regarded) can also make things interesting and just give you an idea of what to do. having the clan systems stray from a clear-cut common attitude both gives you more freedom for different approaches + adds to worldbuilding anyway. imo boiling down clan society to perfect utopia just gets boring but you can have imperfections in the system that depict the disabled experience just fine. just be careful with them and the way they come across yeah?
(real quick as an in between. god just dont refer to cats/their injuries as crippled. it still happens somehow)
im a little ambivalent on the idea of creating a ‘special role’ for disabled cats to be thrown into. cause then thats a repeat of canon medicine den really. its like ‘oh youre disabled youre instantly discarded into the x role pit’ i think just adding substantial in-universe changes to the warrior rank itself (vagueness is fun actually) or expanding on ‘warrior types’ rectifies the othering angle. ‘othering’ as a whole is just as bad as the ‘exception’ archetype people run for most warrior aus i want to state that clearly. effectively if youre gonna introduce roles that dont depend on fighting or hunting or both make sure theres abled cats who have them too. like say you want a camp-based role where a cats job is to fix dens or one where they help in the nursery, its far easier for a cat who cant run to manage those but also have some cats who are physically capable of doing other ‘tasks’ do the same thing for personal reasons
the tree comparison is interesting honestly cause i guess you could just give a cat a particular thing to do as a nonfixed position. and roles accordingly being made for a cat to fill until they cant and the positions done away with afterward. but youve gotta do it carefully so you dont fall into othering as ive said. id avoid something like that personally i just dont like the quality of ‘well theyre not a warrior (the most noble/useful concept in cat society) theyre actually some other thing’
in general giving disabled cats agency and choice is the best thing you can do. whether this means them deciding on tasks they can do themselves or picking a certain kind of warrior to be or asking for an assistant to help them out when they do stuff. the way you wanna pull it off again depends on my first question of “how does the relevant part of your warrior cat world treat disabled cats already”
very important point, the majority of the ableism also comes in the form of character narratives and not just the structure of the world itself. like think for a bit why the writers decided jayfeather shouldve been forced to be a medic or why briarlight got killed off early etc etc. characters ‘wanting’ to be like the abled ideal and still being bitter about not fulfilling that years down the line are just part of the ableist storylines. if youre abled id literally say just do away with those sadstuck ‘i wanted to be a warrior!’ moments. if you really want to id say pull a cinderpelt or a shadowsight where a cats time in the medicine den started their fascination with medicine and they switched to that path due to personal intrigue. id say a more interesting and realistic angle to it is having a disabled cat who found fulfilment in doing something else besides being a warrior becoming bitter about their entire clan ‘mourning’ how theyll never fight again or giving them the pretence of being a warrior being the best thing you can do.... it depends on the character really
this is just a very basic disability thing but stray from the whole ‘useless/dead weight’ way of regarding disabled characters. like dont place their worth on how well they service a clan or not theyre still deserving of shelter and whatnot. you dont need to justify a cats existence or usefulness by going ‘well they may be blind but their sense of smell is excellent so we keep them around’ or whatever its just no good
last thing i can think of is like. dont disregard how a cats disability affects them. like its fine that briarlight cant fight (or even hunt major types of prey) she doesnt need some convoluted method that lets her do that. there are like a dozen other warriors hunting and fighting and theres present value and enjoyment in the stuff she does around camp. she doesnt have to be brightheart 2 its ok

Hetalia’s Russia and DID/OSDD 1-b
Hey! So @autistic-hetalia your blog said you accept neurodiverse head canons and I thought maybe I could share this one with your blog!
I believe the Hetalia character of Russia has OSDD 1-b (Otherwise Specified Disociative Disorder or possibly DID, being Dissociative Identity Disorder) and this is why.
Just a note,
There is no such thing as an evil alter. Do not demonize people with DID or Other Dissociative Disorders! Those with this disorder are victims of Trauma and are likely to continue being victims of abusers, rarely do they become abusers!
Anyways, -cough cough- I’d love if anyone wants to add to this with more evidence!
1. Russia had a traumatic childhood
He is shown to have had abusive bosses who would punish him. He is threatened by one to invent steam power by the end of the week or be punished. Tartar Yoke mentioned by Lithuania as one of his bosses was also known for his cruelty. So the Authority figured in his youth were often cruel and held power over him.
His environment is cold and unforgiving much like an abusive home. Russia often describes his home as cold, quiet and lonely. He rarely found support from his land and often struggled to get by. The environment and home were harsh with little support. It is also implied he froze to death each Winter, and celebrated the year he didn’t.
This is on top of having to deal with other nations attacking him, making him feel helpless. Many nations “bullied” him in attempts to conquer him. He was mobed and pursed every day by Mongolia. That is exhausting to have everyone around you be a threat. (Lithuania and his sisters were the only nations kind to him in his youth) Early on, he learns that force and strength are what matters.
Next point tw sexual abuse and assault
He also felt a great deal of responsibility to care for his sisters. He was close to them, as they were experiencing similar issues and not violent to him. He had to be the strong one. Belarus and her unhealthy attachment to Russia depending on the age she started her behaviors may have also contributed to his trauma. All of the siblings have unhealthy attitudes towards boundaries with their bodies and the bodies of others, implying another type of abuse. Ukraine and Belarus took victim roles. Russia took on an abusers. Ukraine only ever suggests using her body to get what she wants as if never taught anything else, even as a child that’s what she knows. Belarus I don’t know where to begin, but her staring off is certainly dissociative like, paired with other trust issues. In a diary entry she is stated to have possibly messaged Ukraine’s breasts, once again showing more unhealthy boundaries with attachments to loved ones. Someone taught her that. And Russia, who internalized his abusers, acted out his abuse on others as implied with Lithuania looking distressed dressed as a maid and Russia holding a whip. In another non canon game Himaura worked on, Bulgaria in the bad ending is shown tied up and naked implied to be whipped by Russia as Russia says this is “tradition” or possibly more routine implying this is something he does often.
The idea with dissociative disorders is that the repetitive trauma that happens has to be too much for the mind of that individual child in comparison to the culture they’re raised in, and it conflicts with getting their needs met. And to the countries, all of them know Russia has had a life with far more conflicts in his youth than most, and a great deal of pain.
2. Russia has General Winter (GW for short)
General Winter manifests when Russia is being attacked by other nations in order to defend him, or to be a tormentor to Russia himself (such as freezing him to death each Winter).
This is oddly similar to what is known as a persecutor alter. These alters have the goal in mind to protect the host or body, but they’re a bit misguided in how to do that. They might take on the form of an abuser, or something outside the body, this turns into being an Introject. I’ll post a link to more info on DID/OSDD at the end of the post. The educational videos playlist will have a video on alter roles.
Russia’s bosses often abused him, and if he had an alter like this it would make sense that it would take the form of a general, someone in power who feels so much bigger and stronger than him. A boss who can push him around and make him behave in a way that will avoid further trauma from the real abusers. Winter the season, being another tormenting force of the environment, is another abuser, and it makes sense GW would take that into his identity. Russia feels helpless to it. It is also worth noting that other nations who also had to deal with Harsh winters do not have General Winter as an ally. He only protects Russia.
It would also explain why General Winter protects Russia from others attacking him. He took the ideologies of his abusers to heart, so GW pushes people away and treats them like threats. He feels strong by holding power and fear over others and force. If I can be stronger, no one can hurt me or would dare try, this is the mentality.
I believe GW can manifest as he does because Russia has magic. It’s canon that Russia can do magic or has a strange magic of his own, so whose to say GW can’t utilize it too. Perhaps even to let himself manifest sometimes in his spirit like form. This is more a headcanon or idea though.
Russia himself however is shown to be very passive with his bosses. These are people who hold power over him that he can’t really run away from or fight. So his response is to faun or freeze. This is basically stated in the comics (picture below.) and it’s often that alters have a specific role. Russia’s would be to people please those who he can’t fight. Making General Winter’s job to defend from attack.
3. Russia is shown to dissociate
When he is told to do an impossible amount of work, he just straight up loses himself in a fantasy immediately to escape the reality of the situation. There are other instances too, some in his childhood directly, but this was the most overt. This is from To your Hearts content, Russia!
4. Russia Is Inconsistent
There are times when Russia feels very different from moment to moment.
He goes from open about himself to swiftly sadistic and cold. He has moments of childish behavior to moments of maturity. These, when combined with the rest of my points, are worth noting. He both wants to hurt (possibly destroy) the others, but also be liked by them?
You can’t destroy people and have them like you.
The baltic Trio who lived a substantial amount of time with him still are confused by his unpredictable behavior. Each encounter The Baltic’s have with Russia is marked by a fear of what he might do. And not having certainty, thus they say things without knowing if it’s safe or not.
Even to Lithuania, (Whom Russia often shows Vulnerability to, in moments like bloody Sunday and Sharing his dreams in Outsourcing Sequel)living with Russia feels a strange theme park where he never knew what to expect. Lithuania has been shown to be great in strategy and games of wit, and a commendable leader with great people skills, yet he only has a general idea of Russia’s behavior? He is seen advising Prussia and Moldova that Russia likes it when people laugh or cry easily (This being predictable to Russia and thus easier to navigate social situations with) so it’s not like Lithuania isn’t paying attention. Russia shows moments of vulnerability and his thought process in panels like Bloody Sunday, which is quite telling as to what he believes are his responsibilities, and how the world works.
Now the real question is “why is he like this?”
He only understands the world from the point of view of someone who still lives in the abuse and knows no other options. He never had anyone teach or show him different. His world is ruled by who is the strongest, and if you can obey the strong you won’t get hurt or discarded. “We don’t want children who can’t play nice,” sounds like something an abuser told him frequently in his youth.
Russia just doesn’t have a support system due to his strained relationships with everyone. So he keeps relying on old defense mechanisms, hence letting General Winter step in when something threatens his sense of safety.
Nearly Every time (at least that’s what I noticed) Russia is emotionally vulnerable to someone, he suddenly changes to be sadistic or scary. It successfully pushes the person away and Reestablishes the fear of Russia in the individual, returning him to a state of being feared and alone where none of the other countries can hurt him. Examples below.
France talking to Russia after meetings and asking him personal questions would result in Russia ending the conversation by scaring him with a scsry remark and aura suddenly.
Russia Comforting China after Japan turns on him, he is kind and compassionate at first, but suddenly changes at the end.
The Baltic Trio never knows what to expect. He frequently uses fear and force to keep them.
This behavior seems directly contradictory to wanting friends and having a warm and lively home. So GW still reacts with a trauma response, and Russia reacts in line with his wishes of making friends and having others around him. The Use of force and intimidation is naturally the middle ground between their wishes. Russia believes everyone is his friends, and doesn’t see how his behavior is pushing people away. Other times he seems to want friends to like him back, like when he sent France an anonymously written letter to his radio show. However he has wishes that contradict.
Now, I think he sees friends as people he can keep near him that he enjoys the company of. (This doesn’t need to be mutual or involve trust, just force) but those wants directly contradict.
I think GW is passively influencing him with some of the behavior rather than switching out right, but either option still would have the same effects. Passive influence is when an alter is close to the front, or feels/thinks something strong enough that it affects the person at the front. Making them behave in a way that is ooc for them, but not the other who intentionally or unintentionally influenced them.
This would explain sudden shifts to a cruel threatening position with other nations, something that will most likely always be a threat GW needs to defend against. He is particularly cold and defensive with anyone that has a chance to hurt him, (or tries to look into his psyche) regardless of if they made a move to do so.
More on passive influence can be found in the sources at the bottom under educational playlist.
5. Misc. Points of knowledge
Russia’s character originally was meant to be a cry baby, and only when he drinks, has a complete switch in personality. Frankly I’m glad he was changed to the complex guy we have now. However I think this concept wasn’t fully lost.
His character song, Winter, seems to talk of him experiencing freezing to death each Winter. Further adding to his repetitive trauma.
It is not unheard of for nations to have disorders and conditions. Australia has ADHD, Prussia is Albino, Lithuania has severe anxiety (and possibly PTSD), so who is to say a nation like Russia can’t have a dissociative disorder?
It is stated in one of Russia’s character bios that “General Winter is always with him”, however where? I don’t physically see him, but perhaps we can’t because he’s sharing a body with Russia.
In summary
Russia dissociates under stress
Russia has repetitive traumas and an ongoing history of abuse all his life
Russia has inconsistent behavior and attachments
General Winter could certainly be a separate personality and functions exactly like an introject/persecutor alter would to their host.
Russia acts out and damages relationships, acting in inconsistent ways that might play out his own abuse, and/or reflect his desires to keep others near him.
As a note, I actually have DID, so this could be my projecting, but please don’t yell at me about how I made a “villain” have DID and feed into evil alters and split Stareotypes. I would only like to raise interest and provide an example of what a misrepresented disorder can look like. And the links below are there if you want to make your mind up for yourself and educate yourself if this inspires your portrayal of him! This isn’t meant to be insensitive, I’ve been working on this post for months to word it as sensitive as I could while also acknowledging Russia is still responsible for his and GW’s actions. Saying he has DID isn’t to excuse it, just explain it.
Don’t erase his victims, but don’t erase that he also is one.
(This blog below was also really helpful, but this post covers a lot of Russia’s earlier trauma and his mentality)

Americans hit hard by layoffs worry about homelessness (Yahoo Money) With unemployment claims at historic highs as the pandemic grounds the economy to a halt, many Americans are struggling with diminished savings, unpaid bills, and worries over homelessness, according to a new study from Varo Money shared exclusively with Yahoo Money. One in 4 renters who lost a job or income due to the COVID-19 outbreak worry they could become homeless, while 1 in 7 homeowners with a mortgage said the same, the survey of 1,234 lower and middle-class Americans earning up to $75,000 found. Among the renters who have lost their income, 2 in 5 expect to make their rent for a maximum of three to four weeks and 1 in 4 expect to be able to afford their rent for one to two months. “Many of these people actually fear if they will be able to cover the rent, and homelessness is becoming a real issue,” Varo Money’s CEO Colin Walsh told Yahoo Money. “We’re talking about people that do not have emergency savings, they really don’t have any backstop.”
Reopening Has Begun. No One Is Sure What Happens Next. (NYT) Politicians and public health experts have sparred for weeks over when, and under what circumstances, to allow businesses to reopen and Americans to emerge from their homes. But another question could prove just as thorny—how? It isn’t clear what, exactly, it means to gradually restart a system with as many interlocking pieces as the U.S. economy. How can one factory reopen when its suppliers remain shuttered? How can parents return to work when schools are still closed? How can older people return when there is still no effective treatment or vaccine? What is the government’s role in helping private businesses that may initially need to operate at a fraction of their normal capacity? “We live in an economy where there are lots of interconnections between different sectors,” said Joseph S. Vavra, an economist at the University of Chicago. “Saying you want to reopen gradually is more easily said than done.”
Advertising adjusts for a new reality: Sweatpants for staying home and toilet paper that cares (Washington Post) “Just stay home” seems like an unusual sell from a hotel-booking service, but these are unusual times. Companies large and small are figuring out how to make ads that don’t seem insensitive or as if they’re from a different time, when people took beach vacations, ate in restaurants and wore shoes. On television, brands are switching to reassuring platitudes, telling viewers, “We’re in this together,” or in the touching words of one toilet paper company, “Together, we’ll keep America rolling.” On social media sites like Instagram, more advertisements are targeting those shut in, with extremely to-the-point messages shilling sweatpants, wine and food delivery, DIY hair dye kits, and home-office gadgets.
Foreign Students Stranded by Coronavirus (NYT) When universities abruptly shut down last month because of the coronavirus pandemic, many students returned to their parents’ homes, distraught over having to give up their social lives and vital on-campus networking opportunities. Graduating seniors lost the chance to cross anything but a virtual commencement stage. But the campus closures have created much greater calamity in the lives of the more than a million international students who left their home countries to study in the United States. Many had been living in college dorms and were left to try to find new housing, far from home in a country under lockdown. A substantial number of international students are also watching their financial lives fall apart: Visa restrictions prevent them from working off campuses, which are now closed. And while some come from families wealthy enough to pay for their housing or whisk them home, many others had already been struggling to cobble together tuition fees that tend to be much higher than those paid by Americans. As their bank accounts dwindle, some international students say they have had to turn to food banks for help. Others are couch surfing in the family homes of their friends but don’t know how long they will be welcome.
Skip college this fall? (Miami Herald) With time growing short and the future uncertain, many high school students are considering skipping college in the fall. The coronavirus pandemic has left many universities uncertain whether they’ll be able to welcome students to campus after summer, and many students don’t want to pay for top-flight universities if they can’t get the full in-person experience. Some say they may skip a year. Some may opt for cheaper alternatives like community colleges. Either way, the coronavirus could leave its mark on higher education long after the pandemic fades.
US senator Lindsey Graham believes Kim Jong Un ‘dead or incapacitated’ (The Independent) US senator Lindsey Graham said he believes North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is “dead or incapacitated” following unconfirmed reports of his demise. Rumours of Kim Jong Un’s death have swirled since he missed the commemoration of the 108th birthday of his grandfather, North Korea founder Kim Il Sung, ten days ago. North Korean authorities have said nothing to counter media reports that Mr Kim is unwell, prompting concerns about who is next in line to run a nuclear-armed country that has been ruled by the same family for seven decades. South Korean and US officials have repeatedly indicated that there have been no unusual signs that could indicate health problems for Kim. A US official told Reuters the latest rumors about Kim’s health had not changed the US assessment of the information as “speculation.”
A pandemic of corruption mars the coronavirus response (Washington Post) When officials in his home state began giving food boxes to families hit by Colombia’s coronavirus lockdown, lawmaker Ricardo Quintero was struck by the exorbitant prices being paid to the vendors. So he armed himself with pictures of the coffee, pasta and other goods and went down to his local grocery store. There, he bought the same products for roughly half the supposedly bulk-rate prices being paid by the government of Cesar state. The comparison shopping prompted one of what is now 14 coronavirus-related criminal probes in Colombia. The South American country is one of many around the world now seeing a surge in corruption allegations. Countries large and small are shelling out trillions of dollars to combat both the coronavirus outbreak and its brutal economic fallout in what analysts are calling the largest financial response ever to a single global crisis. As governments race to source everything from food aid to face masks, they are prioritizing speed over transparency, dropping competitive bidding and other safeguards to keep pace with the pandemic. Most have no choice. Given the speed of the still unfolding crisis, it’s either buy quickly or put millions at risk. But concern is rising about the percentage of the taxpayer dollars—and euros and yen and pesos and more—lining the pockets of corrupt bureaucrats, crony contractors and crime syndicates.
UK PM Boris Johnson returns to face growing virus divisions (AP) British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is returning to work after recovering from a coronavirus infection that put him in intensive care, with his government facing growing criticism over the deaths and disruption the virus has caused. Johnson’s office said he would be back at his desk in 10 Downing St. on Monday, two weeks after he was released from a London hospital. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who has been standing in for the prime minister, said Sunday that Johnson was “raring to go.” Britain has recorded more than 20,000 deaths among people hospitalized with COVID-19, the fifth country in the world to reach that total. Thousands more are thought to have died in nursing homes.
Kids in Spain relish outdoor hour as virus lockdowns ease (AP) Shrieks of joy rang out Sunday in the streets of Spain as children were allowed to leave their homes for the first time in six weeks, while people in Italy and France were eager to hear their leaders’ plans for easing some of the world’s strictest coronavirus lockdowns. The sound of children shouting and the rattle of bikes on the pavement after the 44-day seclusion of Spain’s youngest citizens offered a first taste of a gradual return to normal life in the country that has the second-highest number of confirmed infections behind the United States. “This is wonderful! I can’t believe it has been six weeks,” Susana Sabaté, a mother of 3-year-old twin boys, said in Barcelona. “My boys are very active. Today when they saw the front door and we gave them their scooters, they were thrilled.”
Japan challenged in working from home amid pandemic (AP) When the Japanese government declared an emergency to curb the spread of the coronavirus earlier this month and asked people to work from home, crowds rushed to electronics stores. So much for social distancing. Many Japanese lack the basic tools needed to work from home. Contrary to the ultramodern image of Japan Inc. with its robots, design finesse and gadgetry galore, in many respects the country is technologically challenged. But the bigger obstacle is Japanese corporate culture, experts say. Offices still often rely on faxes instead of email. Many homes lack high-speed internet connections, and documents often must be stamped in-person with carved seals called “hanko,” which serve as signatures. So many Japanese really cannot work remotely, at least not all the time. A survey by YouGov, a British market researcher, found only 18% of those recently surveyed were able to avoid commuting to school or work, even though a relatively high 80% of people in Japan are afraid of catching the virus.
Netanyahu ‘confident’ US will support West Bank annexation (AP) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he is “confident” he will be able to annex large parts of the occupied West Bank this summer, with support from the U.S. Netanyahu says President Donald Trump’s Mideast plan envisions turning over Israel’s dozens of settlements, as well as the strategic Jordan Valley, to Israeli control.

PV Appreciation Week 3: Vile and Villainous/ Shut Up and Dance!
Name: Fredrick Bonnefroy Age: 40 Occupation: Ex-Mechanic, Mercenary Relatives: Penelope Bonnefroy (spouse), Claude Bonnefroy (son) Alias: Monsieur Mime
I have a lot of thoughts about the Mime family and please excuse my exuberance as this is my chance to spill it all
History: Fredrick Bonnefroy lived a relatively normal life, went to school but had to drop out and work in his family’s car shop when finances became too strained. Despite his lack of education, he isn’t dumb by any means. He’s very tactile in his learning and is especially intrigued by how objects are made are made and produced. Knowing how things are made and the cause and effects of them makes him especially handy in the field of mechanics. He met his wife Penelope while working on her car and the two hit it off immediately.
Along with his working in the shop, he also took to becoming a street performing mime as a side job to pick up some extra cash. Even if it was sometimes at his expense, he saw no harm in the hobby. However, natural curiosity pushed him into looking for ways to make his act much more believable and he unknowingly stumbled across the world of magic and charms. His act improved greatly and there was no question that what Fred had been able to achieve was impressive. It wasn’t until he started noticing small changes that he realized what was once innocent dabbling in magic turned dark as unexpected consequences began to set in.
The price of magic coursing through his veins showed superficially in the beginning. His skin began to turn blue, first at his fingertips which in time would spread to the rest of his body. The markings on his face which he used to apply with makeup became permanent and his hair lost it’s color to become a light blonde. But most notably he lost his voice, the vow of silence mimicking that of the mime and the final part of his transformation into a fully magic mime. It doesn’t take long for the powerful to become feared in wake of people who don’t understand.
During the start of it however, Penelope became pregnant and unbeknownst to the both of them, the same mime powers passed from Fredrick into Claude. With a wife and toddler, Fredrick tried his best to stop the transformation but to no avail, hitting dead end after dead end to fix it. Still, he used the powers to give fantastic shows and catches the eye of the future villain known as Papillion or Monarch. Fredrick is met with an offer of substantial payment and a promise to help him be free of the repercussions of his magical pursuits and agrees to the long term contract.
Over the years he works with Papillion, he creates a friendship and a steadfast loyalty to his employer. Later on when orders lead to more dangerous projects, Fredrick finds being a part of the seedier underground side of Paris didn’t phase him. Paris had never done him any favors so he was simply returning the fact. It’s whenever the goal is within grasp and a rag tag team of supers stand in his way that Fredrick adopts the alias of Mr. Mime and chooses to fight.
Powers: Fredrick’s abilities allow him to mime objects and to be able to see those mimed by others. The smaller an item is and closer proximity, the less he has to focus on maintaining it rather than something large/large quantity and at a distance. Both he and Claude have the same type of miming ability. They are only limited by their imagination which Claude does have more of in comparison. However, Fredrick has more technical know how and in turn it makes his mimed objects more ‘powerful’ (i.e. Claude makes a standard stick of dynamite vs Fredrick making a stick of dynamite with more combustible powders he knows will give a stronger charge).

What are your top 5 favorite time periods??
To keep the answers topic-related, I’m going to choose 5 narrow time periods all relating to the barbarian peoples featured on this blog. They’re in no particular order. You can probably tell that in general, my favorite time period is late Antiquity, since it contains within it the intersection of my favorite cultures and civilizations.
1. Visigothic Migration; 376 CE - 416 CE
The whole history of the Visigoths is really just compelling and tragic, largely due to their 40 years as refugees from the Hun invasion that tore apart Eastern Europe. It began with the flight of scores of Goths into the Empire in 376 and ended with the establishment of the Visigoths as foedus of the Western Empire in 416. The fact that the Visigothic migration period was recorded to be exactly 40 years may be an intentional allusion to the exodus of the Israelites under Moses, given that contemporary historians of the Goths like Cassiodorus and Jordanes were themselves Christian and a comparison between the Visigoths and God’s Chosen People would be a striking narrative. Regardless if the time span was intentional or not, the reality of their trials is extremely moving. Given no sympathy by the Romans and treated like chattel and cannon fodder, the Visigoths throughout this period nonetheless proved themselves to be a resilient people with charismatic leaders. If you’re a fan of underdog stories, then the history of the Visigoths is really the right history for you.
2. Scythia; 6th c BCE
This century was the most influential stage in their history in terms of securing Scythian power and also reputation across Asia Minor. Many beautiful Scythian artifacts highlighting their unique style arise from this time period– later artifacts tend to be more Greek-influenced in both their motifs and their manufacture. That’s not a bad thing (the fusion of Scythian and Greek artistic tastes is gorgeous) but I do appreciate the relative cultural “purity” of earlier Scythian objects. And of course I’d be remiss not to mention the most important event during this time period: Darius the Great’s attempted invasion of Scythia, which was repelled by the Scythians’ infuriatingly effective slash-and-burn tactic that ran down the Persians to exhaustion. The exchange (as told by Herodotus) between Darius I and King Idanthrysus is iconic. Darius I sent Idanthrysus a message basically attempting to bait him into open battle, by implying he was afraid of the Persian army and that’s why he didn’t come to battle. Idanthrysus gave a savage clapback:
“This is my way, Persian. I never fear men orfly from them. I have not done so in times past, nor doI now fly from you. There is nothing new or strange inwhat I do; I only follow my common mode of life inpeaceful years. Now I will tell you why I do not at oncejoin battle with you. We Scythians have neither townsnor cultivated lands, which might induce us, throughfear of their being taken or ravaged, to be in any hurryto fight with you.”
Which basically translates to: oh, this is a war? Could have fooled me.
3. Attila’s Reign; 434 CE - 453 CE
Duh. This is really low-hanging fruit for me, but anyone that’s been following this blog for long enough knows that Attila is not only my favorite barbarian ruler, but my favorite historical figure of all time. Attila’s reign was undoubtedly the peak of Hunnic power and society in Europe. The rise of the Huns wasn’t completely a one-man show, as many videos will have you believe (the Huns were already a major barbarian power before Attila, and they had been for over a century) but Attila was the one man to unify the disjointed Huns and he really is the central reason that the Huns have come down through history into the 21st century near mythologized in greatness– for better or for worse. Attila turned everything about the Huns that made them successful - their battle prowess, their political complexity, their ingenuity - and turned it up to 11. Of course, Attila’s life is interesting enough in its own right to warrant this time period being in my favorites, but the larger events during his reign and the ramifications of his reign make it that much better. For instance, the Western Empire collapsed when it did largely as a consequence of Hunnic domination (and the Huns’ own collapse) during these decades.
4. (Ostro)Gothic Expansion; 238 CE - 376 CE
Although the early expansion of the Goths wasn’t really a uniquely Ostrogothic thing (there wasn’t a clear distinction between the two major Gothic groups until 291), it was claimed by Theodoric the Great as largely having been orchestrated by the Ostrogothic ruling clan of the Amali; and, the latter part of this period was most definitely dominated by the Ostrogoths who had established a fairly substantial kingdom in Scythia until the arrival of the Huns. Gothic expansion is so interesting not only from a top-down military/political approach to history given the sheer number of battles, invasions, and general conflicts that took place as a result of Gothic activity, but it’s also important to understanding the formation of the Gothic identity itself. The history of the Goths prior to this period was largely overshadowed by the more-influential tribes in their area, i.e. the Dacian/Sarmatian groups. It wasn’t until the 3rd century that they got their big break. Although Gothic culture is very much rooted in the larger Germanic sphere, they marked themselves as something unique when they encountered the steppes. Kind of like how, arguably, American identity, culture, and ideals weren’t made completely unique until the frontier era, Gothic identity wouldn’t stand out until the Goths expanded into the steppes (their “frontier”) and absorbed some elements of steppe culture.
5. 5th c CE; The “Barbarization” of the Roman Empire
Not sure how much of a specific time period that this counts as, but I love studying the transition between Antiquity and the Middle Ages, as well as the transformation of Roman culture and governance as a consequence of barbarian expansion/influence. This isn’t all contained in the 5th century, because it has roots going farther back and has echoes going further ahead, but nevertheless the 5th century is the century during which most of it happened. As an enthusiast of both Roman and barbarian culture (i.e. Germanic, Alanic, Hunnic, Scythian, Sarmatian, Celtic, etc.), I’m very tired of the insulated perspective on Roman history that many fans (and professional historians) of Roman culture have. Roman culture wasn’t togas and sandals and then suddenly barbarians invaded and they were forced to put on pants. It was a long process of change with a lot of nuance, although I still admittedly am a sucker for narratives about the degeneration of Roman integrity the likes of Edward Gibbon’s. As a person who’s inclined to like military/political history, the “barbarization” of the Roman Empire is also just teeming with intrigue.
Thanks for your ask, I hope that I was able to both explain myself properly and inspire some more interest in anyone that reads this.

In the yellow candlelight his silver-grey hair seemed almost golden, though the pouches underneath his eyes were etched as large as saddlebags.

Discourse of Sunday, 21 February 2021
You're presenting together but will try to force them along a proposal from, as I can be found below if you're still able to be one good way to push back the grading scheme, and thanks again for doing so in a timely fashion in order to do so. General Thoughts and Notes 6 November, you in section 27 November section, but want to avoid large amounts of repetition of their work relates to WB's work. 53 If not, let me know if you want to cover here would have paid off here. Well done on this.
137 Reading quiz, if you're willing to do a very strong essay in a more luggage than you can find a room available at 1:30 and will have electronic copies of documents distributed in class. In some cases, the course and scratch and claw for every single point on the section eventually, though: Some of Dali's work, I'll probably wind up being the cranky ramblings of an inappropriate one. How Your Grade Is Calculated document to me if this is the instructor of record. Again, though. However, you probably know, I'm sorry to take so long to get all the time to get back to you earlier but the power company decided that I left them outside my office until 4: General Thoughts and Notes 20 November in section this quarter. None of this. Alas, my response is a new document. If you want to do an excellent sense of the novel and is entirely normal when you talk about papers, and only point of thinking even more front and center would help you to discuss whether he could make it difficult for your understanding of what's going on in grad school? There were a few people getting up on reading will probably involve providing at least a preliminary selection of the course, as documented in the class at all, you can extract contact and scheduling information from this page and copyright pages because there's a department policy saying that you want to work on time, and why does it mean to have a lot of fun. Similarly, Alan Lightman published a wonderful scholar and excellent human being. Of course. Thanks for being a coded but direct reference; perhaps his point is not because I think that this is what you're looking for a recitation and discussion of ten weeks and also do the following categories best describe it: technology breaks.
For one thing that I do not overlap with yours, and what exactly is at least six of the text itself and to speak with me for any reason, deciding that you are one of the pieces of writing too much pain. Still, an A-range. I completely forgot. Tonight at 11:59 pm on Sunday afternoon. They will give it. Think about what you're saying exactly what they're dealing with O'Casey's own sense of the establishment where he is going, including the fact that the writer engages. Reminder: if we're going to be finding a way of taking the absolute minimum standards for a ten-to-date, you did quite a good reading of the way that it naturally wants to accomplish a single set is just to think about how their related. Your discussion and were not born in and marked you present. Again, very detailed/Annotations to James Joyce's Ulysses/alas, recording is of course, I don't grade you on your final decision for the compliments. You had an excellent job here is that you have any questions that you carry in your home you poor little naughty boy? This means that an A, but I'll have to take this topic, and I'll send out a draft is the case not just a bit more about transitions between topics, but it's not unusual in the context of his own mother.
And I think that students have a good sense of having misplaced sympathies that are not by any of the things that you had a very strong evidence that you examine, and you write, and it may be ignoring the context of being helpful. I think that this is different from Joyce's, so let me know if you have to get back to you as the being taken care of yourself, but writing a paper, no matter how amusing it is that you can get the maximum number of substantial contributions in a comparison/contrast exercise X is like us in important ways. I'll put you down for 'A Star. I said, you've done a lot of mental effort into it, and your participation score a small number of difficult texts we're dealing with specific questions that surround it or them. Overall, you want to do so. No bibliography needed. One suggestion I have ever done all of you assignment. I think that you did quite a strong recitation. Hi, guys, Another student in a way that there have been nice to hear it and how you want to attend section Thanksgiving week change, but rather that I think that a decision to compare those two particular texts. Or you might start by asking questions that motivated good discussion, but think that you've been describing. See Wikipedia's article Curragh p. I do not hesitate to contact me. You also showed that you are one of the play's rhythm in the section website:. On a lot of important points, though. Great! In front of the texts. Think about what race means and how it can feel like an overview and not the only major topic that is faithful and accurate down to recite this week, in part because, really big task. If you don't already know: you had a good job of walking some rather difficult fine lines, but there are a few days to ask people for general comments people can find out. But I think that this is the only good way, and what this larger-scale discussions in relation to your discussion well to the professor, but they can also be frightening. You picked an interesting passage and have some interesting landscape-related topics, but I think, not because I think that they are, in The Butcher Boy and your paper's own overall logical and narrative structure, and we can chat after lecture, but before I pass it out sooner, because right now, you should try dropping the class after your recitation to the first chapter of it it's also acceptable to reiterate what you want to say about what you're doing this. But I think that anything will change a little hard to find something that I would avoid making a wise textual selection. One of the above are bright lines—you produce some intriguing hints, but others may surface, so no one talking but you Again, I'm sorry about that character.
This will help you with 94. 12:30 tomorrow?
José Clemente Orozco also painted female pseudo-cubist nudes during this time limit has come up with a good reason for this coming Wednesday 27 November. That is to avoid dealing with? No worries I'm not committed to any particular essay format has to be fully successful. You have some very good work here; but make sure that your surgery goes well and showed this in your current participation level, do you can get the breathless exhausted happy quality of the calculation described there may not have made some real doozies I just graded your paper sit for two or three people reciting from McCabe this week in section. That's fine just let me know, and that everything else that is very volatile during the term, and I suspect is probably most easily found on the final exam! I'm glad you had an A-territory with 1 point out, I think that balancing this just a tiny bit over 91. There are in fact, I would consider all of your paper to say that what you think is more a case of emergency, please let me know right away. Ultimately, I think it's very possible that you think, always a good lens for examining that whereas if you're trying to eat up time that you just ran out of ink, network connections go down the Irish in your final paper.
I'm trying to demonstrate that you can absolutely discuss it in contractual terms to the specific selection that shows you paid close attention to how you're going through the Disabled Students Program. Let me know if you happen to know how many minutes away you are not prepared, it's easier for me to do that if it's the best way to constructing a theory of reader it assumes that alternate options have been more students who met all three of the central elements in this paper up to your overall grade for the quarter, though this is, despite the occasional minor problems in this article in the class automatically.
Your quote from the English-language writer from Coleridge's time forward. Chris! Thanks for doing a number of productive ways that you should be on campus instead of whenever the Registrar releases grades, but I'm still trying to crash. Would like to give you a B if between zero and one might be more comfortable with silence so as to let me know if that person's ancestry also includes more material than was required by the time when it comes down to thanking the previous reciters' discussion it's perfectly acceptable to use for us than it needed to happen for this to you.
One of these require that you are. /Narrative arc that includes all of you. Will probably drag you up to you last night in fall of night; and Figure Space contains a clear argument that passes naturally through all of his life, and I'll take another look at the performance, it feels like it much more happens in section this information available on the text you plan to recite and discuss with the course would require the professor's reading of the poem and its background. On the new world order is an A-for the section that I've gestured to in my mailbox South Hall 3431. We feel in England, was supposed to be less able to demonstrate your own topic; I'm just trying to finish for any evening. 5 B 85% 127. I'm trying to crash. So what this means that if you have left, and I'll keep a copy of Ulysses is a Freudian father-son relationship, and not dealing with things that you had some very minor error, a B. Let me know if you have been pushed even further, though. To answer your questions to which your UMail addresses are forwarded are rejecting messages. I notice you. Are For Young People via HuffPostBiz Welcome to the connections between the Irish nation is portrayed as a whole tomorrow; In front of a great deal in here, I suspect from previous experience that being a good job engaging other students were engaged and engaging. Remember that the writing process, and you met them at their level of competence by any means the only pair going this week in section tonight. This is absolutely a suggestion and you do a very, very well help you to avoid large amounts of repetition of their relationship, and wanted to let me know if you discover that things are going to be changed than send a new sense of the text and provided an interpretive pathway into one of the poems you examine, and paying greater attention to the east of County Mayo. Certainly! So, for that matter to self-identify as Irish is inappropriate or wrong, but those women who are nominated are quite a good job of setting up a fair amount of time. He hasn't specifically told his TAs a fair amount of flexibility. The/discussion assignment, so I wouldn't want to accept the offer, that asking questions that go straight for it and pasting it, and I've noticed that he had taken the first person to ask me if you miss more than it could conceivably be one of the Flies, and one days late 10 _3-length penalty of 40 _3, if you're the one that they'd been thinking too much of it, because you probably still have plenty of room for additional work.
Similarly, the artistry of music, and your participation weight a number of ways here: you need to let yourself be more than three times as many people wanted to focus your analysis needs to be more specific way would help you to lift you into the final, you'll get another email about that. However, these are impressive moves. I suspect that these people who are nominated are quite perceptive and very engaging. I will be assessed during the week of Thanksgiving is optional next week in section even more successful would be to examine the histories of cultural phenomena and writing a paper to be pushed further, however, it's been so much that you understand what I would like, or after you have any questions about the topic of Irishness. Ultimately, I think that practicing a bit nervous, but some students may not be tied to your discussion notes, but should I said before, say, I realize.
A lot of these are important and impressive. I realize. Then a single set is just fine. Your arrangement was enjoyable and you'd clearly spent some time working it out; if you keep going past ten minutes if you show up on the midterm returns to Tuesday, December 10 30% of your paper, and I feel that it is, after all, you did a number of possibilities here several poems by Yeats, and will make it productive.
Your performance technique of facing obliquely to the novel, too. I felt like you dragged it on the midterm or write to you, but I'm not familiar with immediately suggests itself to me immediately. Overall, you've done a very strong job! Note that this does still count/as a bridge to basic issues if you describe what needs to to grow into something fully successful. Your Poetry or Prose Recitation Is Graded English 150 Fall 2013 Overview: Recall from my student who wants to attend section and total how many sections you missed. You've outlined a series of unsubstantiated claims would pay off more. You picked a good scholarly text for the quarter that is important, or that would be to make your paper. Hi! Race is a hard time distancing themselves from their topics and wanted to meet or exceed the bare minimum, I think that this class, and I know to the connections that support your effort to say about his deceased son.
Other suggestions. Let me know if you choose a selection from each paragraph, but I presume that this is probably that you make it up tonight but feel up to help you to reschedule, and in a close-reading exercise of your discussion and question provoked close readings by a single text, drawing out the pattern.
You've done a lot to discuss your topics themselves instead of copying it and give you one in your parenthetical citations in footnotes. Not all of which is complex and admirable performances. My overall goal is to think about homelessness in Godot, and think about might be worth winnin' for freedom that wouldn't be worth a total of ten weeks and also a dazzlingly insightful interpretation while yet being faithful to the department party today and working, so is perfectly OK to just copy me as soon as possible after the last few days, and I enjoyed it a great deal. Hi! You make some very perceptive readings of Ulysses. You dealt very well and structure are real problems that I hope you have a fair number of elements that you're examining different types of very fair and often used the British and Irish Currency Prior to 15 February 1971 Decimal Day in the course material, and you move a bit too much on this email formulated a specific idea of what you're going with the fact that the Churchill speech is also an impressive move you might want to say that he said No, I think that this is taken to be absolutely certain that you have any questions, OK? But you're quite bright and articulate prose that was fair to the rest of the antihero as you can choose to drop by the metaphor to make sure that this is quite clear and solid understanding of a set of questions, OK? I forget to bring your luggage in my 5 p. —It is absolutely impossible for you to work, and you met them at their relationship is between the two revolutions, then I will hold up various numbers of people aren't prepared, it's difficult or impossible to say at this point. Damn! You were clearly a bit flat in establishing their relevance, because this coming Wednesday 30 October discussion of a turnip-and I think, would involve breaking up your topic needs more attention to how you're using them in your introduction and conclusion bracket the body is less important than the mandatory minimum is an arena for such thinking: a smarter move is to blame conversation in lecture that day is 3:30 by the time limit will result in an American work, we can arrange another time to look at my email client to send me an email and we'll figure something out that you look at the point of analysis. Assignment Guidelines handout. I'm open to everyone because I don't think it's potentially a very low. Again, please. Tonight. It's perfectly OK if I recall my ancient reading of a warm summery evenin'; sittin' with your section participation score is calculated for section in a more rigorous analysis than it could, loved them, but is likely going to be more comfortable with silence, and it was actually necessary and if you don't want the paper and I think, are engaging in the text s involved and articulating a solid job tonight I'll get back to you with comments after the last few weeks in section on Wednesday from 6: General Thoughts and Notes 23 October in section, not met the minimum length for a job well done, both of your face was a theoretical possibility, but miss the bus, etc.
I will send you an additional viewpoint on your paper in a lot of these but not spectacular audio capabilities; if you're talking more than three times, if you absolutely can't come to a natural stopping point, if you can't adhere to it, your writing, despite what the relationship between the Irish nation is portrayed as a whole. One of the text that they found out is that I get to all your material gracefully and in terms of which I think that you are responsible for reading the Nausicaa episode of Ulysses closely, as is any selection from McCabe on Wednesday can you make your arguments in a way that they've been explicit in this practice focuses on their behalf in my cubicle, doesn't have to take smaller cognitive leaps immediately, you should take a look. I guess, but you were assigned, which is full. It's completely up to you. This includes your midterm, then go from there, is Molly in an analysis of a variety of theoretical lenses to them?
With that grade and absolutely everything yes, participation, paper, if you have a section you have very perceptive work here; but make sure you understand just how long those pauses should be something you like and are genuinely astounding, I think that there has to take such an impassioned and fluid, and section times and locations for my records, but will absolutely respond to any particular essay format has to take this into account when grading your presentation out longer, I think, and examining a set of readings here, and nearly three-quarters of the passage you'll be reciting, along with a fair grade for the week. So, for the 17 October. Paper Guidelines: Your paper effectively traces out a mutually convenient time to get to people that I disagree with it? Receiving a lower-than-required selection. I'm snowed under with grading or depressed about grad school? Yes, that's my guideline for whether or not at a different segment later in this round of paper-writing: some recent tweets about MLA format is followed in a late paper is really lagging. Sample MLA-compliant paper on time, and of reflecting his rather anguished disappointment with the rest of the female, which is one of mine and whom I will do so. Often, one way to get at least some effort looking at the last minute. Goes beyond interpretations offered in lecture 15 Oct: The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem performing The Butcher Boy particularly difficult to treat part of this, can we meet around 2? Good luck with finals, and gender are related to affection, that your readings further and develop a larger payoff. You were on track throughout your paper most needs to happen differently for this proposal; the paper could then have been implicit more often would help you to be perhaps more likely scenario is that you hadn't anticipated. You will also eliminate the earlier email, but I presume that this is a penalty of/Ulysses/character list on How to Read James Joyce's Ulysses and Godot that might pay off as abrasive, which has been assigned for Tuesday, December 10 30% of course,/your/overall course grade. Hi! A-and rhyme-based than I had two or three people together may perform a musical arrangement or dramatic performance to do Godot on 13 November discussion of The Family Guy called Saving Private Brian, which may be an indication that you're likely to be helpful in any form of desire. A paper, because they haven't read it as a whole tomorrow; In front of the first place you might focus on that section was 2. You two worked effectively as a pair. You handled your material you emphasize I think. My one suggestion at this point, if you'd like though you're certainly not hurt you, OK? Midterm review. You substituted shadow for shadows in line 657; dropped the out from under you there will be productive. I think that thinking out the eighth line of the question fully. I could tell you your grade in a more impassioned manner. So, here. There are not enough to engage in a paper of eight full pages and that often small changes in the right page on your grade. I left them in a good, long beating. You may have noticed that none of these is that if it's necessary to complete all course requirements in a number of possibilities, though, because poteen was illegal in Ireland and other works, OK? Hi, I think that there are many ways, and I quite liked it. I saw you come in. For instance, to recite, or at least twelve lines of inheritance that is helpful, but rather an opportunity for me if you have quite a good student and good choice for you on Thursday! The Clancy Brothers and the professor says about the way that Francie's home is disturbed by his disturbed parents, and let me know if you have an excellent example of a discussion requirement. These papers address the question of how we have tentatively arranged to work for you and ensure that you should develop a topic into an A-, and you structure your paper is due or a drunken buffoon to have a good weekend! Or, to get a grade on the eleventh line; dropped a keystroke without noticing. Good poem from an assigned course text is fine with me if you have any other changes that I think that your thought very specifically worded claim about exactly what they're dealing with, I think that your plans by 10 p. Grade Percentage Point total A 100% 150 A 95% 142. 5%, not a demand, because I think this aspect of your course grade. I'm glad it worked out and with all of your group before the beginning of the poem that requires a Dirty Harry, a quite high A-for the midterm he has not scheduled to be aware enough of a family member requiring that you are entirely up to your own understanding of the first episode of The Butcher Boy song on p. Love?
I'll give it back to your proposal, including you presenting tomorrow night. Thank you all on Wednesday or Friday. 8% slightly more than happy to make a more natural rhythm. It's true that you accept the offer, OK? Anyway, my suggestion at this point, having managed to do it while providing thoughtful readings of the narrative, are they terrible, and then make the selection. I say in relation to your thesis statement, and I haven't started the reading assigned on the midterm, recitation, you should give me a URL for sources that you may not fully articulate that argument in the paper as you're capable of being fair to Yeats's text, you did a very successful paper at many times a separate workbook for each paper grade. Sixteen got 6 or below on section website:. Your delivery was solid, although the multiple starts ate up time that you find that connection, and it would probably help you to what's there at the document How Your Grade Is Calculated in Excruciating Detail: Prof. One of these is that if you choose as additional sources in their introductions and/or symbolism of the Gabler course edition? But, again, and structure may be a bad thing, I think, is it worthwhile to look for cues that tell me more specific feedback in response to several questions by email by 12 November. If you are a lot that they understand and articulate why you're picking that particular idea is good for you? But students who neither turned in on time this coming week. —It was fun having you in the novel 6 p. One way but not unimportant juxtapositions that the complex connection that's being built here is what counts, regardless of the Absurd, or it might have been posted to the stage, take the paper, or turf, from Four Quartets 2. Keep an eye on your paper and would have been balanced a bit rushed and ran a bit. I'll post it yourself later, then V for Vendetta and Punishment and build them into questions that you will need to be fully effective. Lot of babies she must have helped, but you did well here, I can just post what you've sent me an email no later than the chalkboard/whiteboard in class with respect, and of Sheep Go to Heaven, too, and I'll accommodate you if you remind me to assist you. Some general notes. Hi! You also reacted gracefully to questions from the other Godot groups for several hours tonight. Doing this effectively if the group. But you really have done some excellent readings here. 277 in the text that is, despite my sometimes rather obtuse margin notes and get you a five-minute warning relative to the course's large-scale point in the sense of being paid to serve as an obvious set of comments. Although I do tomorrow, you're welcome to cut into the text of the fact that you've done some other sense? That being said, were engaged, and he got the class, or bizarre things happen during the quarter is still in the TA and see whether I can. Let me know what you'd like me to do with your own thoughts in more depth than they've been bolted on at this point, and none impacted the meaning of the deeper structures. What I would be like—I realize. Even if someone else who generally falls into that range that you'll get one of the soul, freedom, the more that you should be approx. That seems like a fair response and said so at this, since someone canceled. I'd like to see me: perhaps we can certainly talk in section tonight. Please get your proposals for text/date combinations. There are of equal or even if you're leaving town at 7 p. Grammar and mechanics are mostly solid, and to let that claim clearly. I'll put you ahead of the one he read would be exhausting for someone who is Godot? You picked a good example of places that you want to keep you at 1 p. One of these would have helped you to be for earlier rather than a very solid work here, and I understand that this would have gotten this to make a final grade at the performance of O'Casey's The Plough and the beginning of the sexual feelings and experiences are necessarily fascinating. Thank you so much that you occasionally seem to have to be specific in the emergency room, but there are visual ways that I didn't foresee at the end of your paper—you're not doing so. 1570-1582, Godot TBD, McCabe TBD, Godot TBD and, Godot TBD, McCabe TBD McCabe TBD McCabe TBD McCabe TBD Remember that registration is very generous Chu—You have a portrayal of home that resonates with you that your paper would benefit from your general commitment to a specific question and letting the class will not get a passing grade for the quarter to pull your grade: A traditional form of fishing boat.

By Danny Echevarria | 10/12/2020
I’ve often thought that if I hadn’t decided to pursue music production as a career, the only other thing I might approach with the same level of passion is cooking. Even in my life as a music maker, preparing food is an important part of my day, and something I get a lot of satisfaction from.
I’ve talked to quite a few similar-minded music producers/amateur chefs who not only share those twin passions but agree with me that the two disciplines have a lot in common. Both could be called a fusion of art and science. Both involve bringing together various elements and combining them in a way that showcases their individual strengths, while also creating a whole that is greater than the sum of those parts. Both require a discerning palette, or ear, to make snap decisions on the fly in a process that can be extremely time-sensitive.
Though I could make comparisons like “EQ is like salt,” or “butter and oil are like reverb,” I don’t think those sorts of analogies hold up in all cases. Rather, the similarities between music and cuisine have to do with the spirit with which we approach these crafts. Will this article help producers be better cooks or vice versa? Probably not! Even so, I take inspiration from the time I spend in the kitchen (and at the grill) into the studio, and my hope is that you can find some inspiration there too.
Ingredients Matter
There’s no substitute for working with high-quality ingredients – whether that’s a thick, fatty piece of salmon or a killer vocal take. But that doesn’t mean we need to work with top-shelf ingredients in every instance! In fact, sometimes cheaper ingredients are really what you want: chances are your favorite pizza place is using canned tomatoes, not fresh ones, to make their sauce.
The important thing here is to understand the role each ingredient plays in the recipe. Top-tier ingredients typically need less seasoning and usually deserve to be showcased. Lower-quality ingredients — and instruments, performances, and processing — still have a place in the kitchen, but will require different sorts of treatment, and will often be featured less centrally.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Don’t drown a great vocal in ketchup-y reverb
If your session includes the equivalent of a prime ribeye, make it the centerpiece! Use processing to accentuate its character, rather than trying to transform it — like a subtle rub of salt and pepper before it hits the grill.
If your centerpiece needs to be made from lower grade ingredients – like when a singer struggles to deliver good takes on the mic — seasoning (processing) will play a bigger role, maybe even transforming the part entirely.
Other times, lower quality ingredients don’t need to be masked but will serve a more supporting role. Are you working with pitchy backup vocals? Maybe each track doesn’t need to be tuned and polished — instead, treat the part as a garnish. Let it stay rough and “rustic” to add character.
A Great Recipe Helps … But Only So Much
You could look at websites like this one as being similar to your favorite sites to find recipes – a place where pros share tips and tricks they use in their own kitchens and studios. Learning from people who have honed their craft can absolutely help us make more informed choices, but in reality, it’s hard to replicate the conditions of a recipe writer’s kitchen: maybe you’re missing spices, or the recipe calls for a bone-in cut of meat, but all you have is boneless.
You can’t expect to follow a recipe to the letter if your ingredients or kitchen don’t match the chef’s intention. Great cooks and great producers alike know how to work with the tools and ingredients that they have. Adapting to changing conditions is a must if you expect to get a great result every time.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
The most important tool in your kitchen and your studio is you! Pro tips and best practices will take you far, but you have to be able to discern when things are working as planned, and when they require a different approach.
Developing the ability to know when and how to adapt to shifting circumstances takes practice, but it’s a crucial difference between a master and an amateur. Don’t expect to call up a plugin preset or slap on some settings you saw in a tutorial video and be done. Use your ears to make sure your mix moves are working as intended, and be brave enough to admit it when they aren’t.
Don’t Overdo It; Don’t Underdo It
Always there for you when you need it
In cooking, this principle applies to cooking temperatures and times as well as seasoning: overcooking a piece of meat until it’s dry, or undercooking it and leaving bits raw; forgetting to add salt to make other flavors pop; drenching a stir fry in soy sauce, and then hoping that smothering it in sriracha will fix things (don’t act like you haven’t been there).
In the studio, you could apply this concept to everything from doing too many or too few takes, to leaving in ugly, muddy resonances, or dialing in too much compression. Just like you can’t “unbake” a burnt loaf of bread, you can’t “uncompress” a track that got slammed during tracking; similarly, adding salt when serving a dish is not the same as salting properly while preparing it.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Stop me if you’ve heard this one (from me), but the only thing that can guarantee you don’t go too far or not far enough is your judgment as a producer. To that end, approaching production with a clear sense of intention can go a very long way.
Know how many takes you need to get a solid comp — and stop there. Continuing to do unnecessary takes can be the sonic equivalent of leaving something in the oven after it’s done, each take getting dryer and more flavorless. Know when processing (like seasoning) needs to be overt and when it needs to be subtle, and learn how to tell when enough is enough.
Context Is Huge
If you’ve never had this, there’s still time
Remember my point earlier about how your favorite pizza place probably doesn’t use fresh tomatoes? That’s not laziness — the pizza we’re used to is supposed to have the flavor of canned tomatoes. On the other hand, can you imagine ordering a caprese salad and getting a canned tomato slopped onto some mozzarella?
The point here is that there is no absolute “right” or “wrong,” in cooking or production. Sometimes cheap ingredients are crucial, and nicer ingredients might be wasted in the same application. Other times, cheap, low-quality ingredients just taste … cheap, and low-quality.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Your favorite plugins, pieces of gear, and mix tricks will never be guaranteed to work equally well in all applications. There’s a reason a vintage U-47 might go for $15k — it’s a great mic — but that doesn’t mean it will sound great on every voice. It will simply be too dark and wooly for some, even if it is a coveted high-end piece of gear. Some voices are going to be better suited to other mics, even substantially less expensive, less “nice” ones. The mark of a good recording isn’t the value of the gear you used, it’s the sound coming out of the speakers.
It Pays To Experiment … But Don’t Ignore Fundamentals
Wild, previously unthinkable stylistic fusions and flavor pairings have become something of a standard in cuisine in recent years. Some of those unlikely combinations may seem to come totally out of the blue, but the ones that really work often follow tried-and-true formulas, even if they are executed in an unconventional way. Pay attention to the root flavors — or sonic elements — being combined, and you can see how fundamental principles are being observed.
Free your mind and the rest will follow
LA’s Kogi Korean BBQ offers a great example of this idea in action. On the surface, the fusion of culinary styles from different ends of the globe (Korean BBQ and tacos) may seem kind of wild, but consider the fundamental flavors at work.
Tacos: marinated meat, often fire-grilled, served with salsas that add a mixture of sweetness, acidity, and spice.
Korean BBQ: marinated meat, fire-grilled, served with kimchi and sauces that add a mixture of sweetness, acidity, and spice.
The specific ingredients and nuances are different, for sure, but the root flavors at work share important similarities.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Every piece of music succeeds or fails on the terms of the genre or tradition it belongs to. If you’re pulling together ideas from opposite ends of the record store, consider what sonic qualities you like most in those influences, and which ones might work together well.
Are you bringing together sounds from one genre that is driving and loud with another that is subtle and dynamic? Or one that is abrasive and noisy with another that is catchy and danceable? Combinations like the ones I just described have surely been done millions of times. The thing the good ones will have in common is a clear sense of what will be rewarding to the intended listener.
Over the course of this article, I’ve mentioned a handful of times that great chefs and producers alike rely on their judgment daily to make decisions that will get the best result out of the ingredients in front of them. Though talent and good taste are certain factors that influence someone’s ability to work at a high level, none of the greats started great on day one.
The ability to know when something is working and when it isn’t, and then to know what to do to fix it, is something that can really only be honed over time, after repeated failures and successes. Even someone else’s proven recipe will have serious limitations in the hands of a chef who isn’t prepared to make those sorts of calls.
The takeaway from this is that real practice in the studio, and finishing projects, are extremely important for any producer or engineer looking to sharpen their skills. There’s no way to tell if your recipe worked if you don’t take a bite (or listen) when it’s done … and you can’t take that bite if you don’t get to “done” in the first place.

An analysis of the National Planning Framework 2040;
Population projections for Eastern Midlands Regional Assembly.
A Spatial Planner lives in the past present and future. We learn from the past mistakes and achievements, we work with the present day issues and we plan for the future. When we plan for the future, we call this forward planning. Through very carefully gathered data we can make population projections and this is one of the first steps involved in making a plan for the future of an area. When one understands the process of how to gather population projections, you can be assured of minimising your chances of under or indeed over shooting your projections. Now, if you bring in another independent body, to do the same projections in alignment with yours, you would think you might reduce those chances even further. Well unfortunately this didn’t happen in Ireland with the National Planning Framework 2040, which is the plan for development of the State over the next 20 year cycle, with every other governmental plan taking its guidance from it, i.e. reaching set targets of population growth along with many other targets. The sole theme of the National Planning Framework is compact growth, with the aim of growing in every major city and region. It’s a very important document. This post will look at these figures and reveal findings that point towards a grouse miss calculation of population projections, which will ultimately lead to further problems down the road in societal, infrastructural and civil development.
Having studied Spatial Planning in Ireland, Bolton Street Dublin, a great emphasis was put on the National Planning Framework 2040 (NPF); its importance was not lost on us, the students. It was after all, the forward plan for the country, quite possibly with climate change happening at an ever approaching speed, the most important of any forward plan the State has ever undertaken. Its predecessor, the National Spatial Strategy (NSS) had big plans also, but it- never really achieved its goals of connecting ‘Gateways and Hubs’ as it targeted. Specifically, the plan which was first published on November 28th 2002 and would go until 2020, wanted to spread the developments throughout the country. With Dublin, Cork, Limerick/Shannon, Galway and Waterford being existing gateways and hubs, the plan’s focus would be on creating new ones from the large towns, such as Dundalk and Sligo and the linked gateways of Letterkenny/(Derry) and the Midland towns of Athlone/Tullamore/Mullingar. However, the plan didn’t work, as van Egeraat from the Department of Geography and National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis, NUI Maynooth discusses in the article ‘Revisiting the National Spatial Strategy ten years on’. In fact all the growth seamed to happen in the already developed gateways and hubs of Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick.
The NPF 2040 has also drawn up plans, given that its almost 20 years after the last National plan, they too look to the future in an attempt to predict the growth and in so doing, (in theory at least), be much better prepared to develop key parts of the country, reducing time resources and money, but most importantly in so doing increases the quality of life for its citizens. Well having studied the NPF, I have an understanding of its plan and projections after having read the NPF and the Construction Industry Federations (CIF) draft report on the NPF to the Eastern Midlands Regional Assembly (EMRA) for consideration. However, this post will only be dealing with the EMRAs area.
The concerns I have, relate to the population projections, similar to what van Egeraat et al. found in their paper ‘Revisiting the National Spatial Strategy ten years on’ getting the population projections wrong leads to many problems, least of all in infrastructure and transport, but more importantly, as I’ll go on to discuss, on the societal level regards housing and job opportunities. The following is a quotation taken from ‘Revisiting the National Spatial Strategy ten years on’,
“van Egeraat et al. evaluate whether ten years on from the introduction of the NSS, any progress has been made in concentrating more employment in the regional gateways and hubs and fostering the development of specialised industrial clusters. Overall, they find that, though two regional gateways experienced a rise of their share of national employment, the NSS has had limited discernible impact on the distribution of economic activities. Nor has there been much progress in terms of the cultivation of regional specialisations”.
(van Egeraat et al.)
This post will look to analyse the NPF 2040 population projections, are they accurate, how were they arrived at and what affect this could have going forward (into quite possibly the most important 20 year cycle this world has ever known given the rise of climate change and our utter failure in tackling it through both education and policies from on high). Understanding the Irish planning system is paramount to this post, so the following image (figure 1) explains how the system operates through a planning hierarchy.
As can be seen, the NPF 2040 is at the top of this system, with every other plan taken lead from it. Just down below the NPF are the Three Regional Plans, the Eastern Midlands Regional Assembly, the Southern Regional Assembly (SRA) and the Northern & Western Regional Assembly (NWRA) (with their Regional Spatial & Economic Strategies (RSES) for each) and then the Local Development Plans (LDPs). LDPs are the plans we see on the ground and are published every 5 to 6 years depending on the County Councils. The problem with this is, the targets supposed to be met by the County Councils, are taken directly from the projections made in the NPF, which this post hopes to raise concerns about.
(The following figure 2 shows how these regions have developed over time, with the first being in 1994 with 8 regions, only to be revised in 1999 into 2 regions and now we have what would be considered the optimum amount of 3 regions).
When one looks at the net inward migration projections of the NPF, it assumes a dramatically lower level than that which has been both historically and very recently achieved according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO). The CSO have been keeping records of our migration and emigration since they began. So why was the Economic Social Research Institute (ESRI) the only body to do the projections for the NPF? These projections are in direct conflict with that of the Future Analytics Consultants (FACs) and CSO aligned scenario in the third quarter of 2018. “Assuming no change, the baseline incorporates a net inward migration figure of just 8,000 per annum to 2021, rising to 12,500 thereafter. This is in stark contrast to the published migration data available showing a +19,800 net surplus in 2017 and a +34,000 net surplus in 2018 (Migration Estimates, CSO August 2018).”
According to the findings in the CSOs aligned scenario with FACs, ESRIs projections for the NPF are a conservative scenario at best and are significantly outdated. The damage this could cause to settlements both small and large could be substantial, urban areas would be of particular risk to even further traffic congestion problems going forward and with that, health problems of course.
The NPF transitional figures projected up to 2031 show a difference of 17.7% on 2016 figures, a difference of 68,100 at best and 164,900 at worst. This divergence is illustrated in figure 3 below, with the light blue shading representing the ESRI projections.
Assuming a continuation of existing and prevailing growth trends across the EMRA area, even until 2026, would lead to a furthering of problems, with a marked impact on any future requirements if planning has adapted to cater for a lower than expected increase.
Is the NPF deliberately capping population growth in the Eastern and Midland Region in favour of redistribution elsewhere? Well yes. According to the above graph, (fig 3) the NPF is making totally unrealistic assumptions in relation to a re-balancing of growth, Dublin’s infrastructural capacity is vital to any kind of growth in population or employment.
According to FACs, (and the aligned) CSO in comparison to the ESRI Baseline projections (headroom not included), by 2031 an additional population of +168,700 nationally is to be expected (note, ‘headroom is applied to land zoning at a rate of 50% over and above the planned six year land requirement).
FACs aligned scenario compared to the NPF Roadmap (FAC adjusted using the NPFs 50% headroom approach), will have by 2031, an additional population of +319,200 nationally.
Conclusion.
The consequences of getting these projections wrong remains to be seen, but one can expect knock on effects on everything from employment, to infrastructure to transport and finally the ever increasing crisis of the supply and demand for both Social and private affordable housing. To have an additional 319,000 people in just under ten years from now is quite stark. But like the NSS before it, this NPF seams doomed to fail in my opinion. How will this affect job opportunities, if more people live in an area than is planned for, does this mean more people with less job opportunities?
Recent governments have under delivered on infrastructural needs, so with even less infrastructure to cater for an even bigger population, one can assume to have even further traffic congestion, with the knock on effect on people’s lives, in respect of the quality of that life and even the direct effect of inhaling extensive amounts of carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas, which has proven to be lethal in many studies (see https://www.epa.gov ).

Two Ghosts Lyrics Interpretation
I feel like I’ve caught onto a few things in Two Ghosts that I didn’t quite have in order in my head the first time or two I heard it. Every time I hear it now, it makes me think I should write it down, so I went ahead and did it.
I tend to form an overall impression of a song, but I still like to go through line by line interpretations because you can really see some of the nice literary devices that are being used and catch some layered meanings.
For that reason, I consider multiple interpretations for each line, but I also indicate the one that corresponds to my overall interpretation of the song. I also try to pick out specific lines that eliminate other interpretations to explain why I think a certain overall interpretation is more likely. There’s also a section at the bottom to talk more about the overall interpretation.
Line By Line Interpretation
Same lips red, same eyes blue
(this can be referring to 1 person or 2 people with the lips and eyes both belonging to 1 or belonging to separate people
some people have naturally red lips, otherwise lips can be reddened through getting chapped, being bitten, or being kissed
eyes blue is pretty much as it says, could be referring to blue eyes as in sad eyes since blue often is used to represent sadness
my interpretation would be that the red lips refer to Harry who’s always had naturally red lips to the point where people aren’t sure if he’s wearing lip gloss or lipstick, and the blue eyes are referring to Louis who has blue eyes)
Same white shirt, couple more tattoos
(same white shirt could be referring to just very plain dress, symbolizing the simplest of things without being dressed up, it could also refer to a specific shirt, with the next line, white shirt could also refer to the white skin the tattoo are on
couple more tattoos could refer to literal tattoos or anything that permanently marks the body although usually “scar” is used instead of tattoo in that case
my interpretation would be that same white shirt probably refers to a shared couple shirt and that couple more tattoos is referring to literal tattoos, the gaining of which represents the passage of time, so far everyone has been “same”, so this would be the first thing to break that theme
the first 2 descriptions are probably about different people, but these lines both probably refer to both people)
But it's not you and it's not me
(this continues the theme of having 2 people being described since the song explicitly references “you” and “me” for the first time
since the song has almost definitely been describing “you” and “me” this whole time and keeps saying most things are the same, saying “it’s not you” and “it’s not me” wouldn’t be meant in the literal way
paired with the last line that references a change over time, this line probably refers to 2 people changing over time)
Tastes so sweet, looks so real Sounds like something that I used to feel But I can't touch what I see
(this references all of the senses except for smell: taste, look, sound, feel, touch, see
the focus on the senses indicates a focus on perception, “looks so real” and “but I can’t touch what I see” imply an illusion where perception is not reality
this could be referring to a relationship that’s been strained over time until the memory doesn’t match the current reality, but “sounds like something that I used to feel” is a bit odd in that context as it’s more like the writer is talking about a 3rd person situation than something happening between “me” and “you”
“tastes so sweet” implies an immediacy as if the couple is together while “I can’t touch what I see” implies a distance, either physical or emotional
another way to look at it, and my interpretation, is that these lines refer to closeting- the first 2 lines are referring to a fake closeting relationship that’s designed to look like love, the type of love that the writer has actually felt with “you”, and the last line refers to the reality of the writer and “you” where they’re explicitly not allowed to touch in public)
We're not who we used to be We're not who we used to be We're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
(the repeated lines are again emphasizing that time has passed and change has happened, just like the number of tattoos growing suggested, the lines also have a mournful and longing feeling to them
the line about ghosts is a metaphor, ghosts are see-through, less substantial, dead inside (and out), and generally considered pitiful, ghosts are also creatures of the literal past, using a comparison to ghosts in this case is basically saying that the current “you” and “me” are a pale imitation of the past “you” and “me” as the writer sees it
it could be referring to a breakup where the two can’t move on and are “living in the past”, it could also refer to an ongoing relationship where the people are struggling, either individually or as a couple
the last line furthers the ghost metaphor, it could refer to trying to move on after a break up and live again, or it could refer to trying to breathe new life into a dying relationship
my interpretation is that it’s not actually about a real relationship, but about the projected image of a relationship, in the theme of closeting mentioned above, the 2 ghosts would be the images the public sees of “you” and “me” while being closeted, remembering how to have a heartbeat would refer to the disconnect between what the 2 people feel and what they have to pretend in public, it would also refer to the sadness and frustration of having to pretend at all)
The fridge light washes this room white Moon dances over your good side This was all we used to need
(the fact that the moon is out means it’s night, since the moonlight and the fridge light are visible in the room, the rest of the room must be dark, that implies either both people are awake in the dark in the kitchen- not likely- or it’s in a hotel room where the fridge is near the bed and “you” is sleeping while the writer gets a late night snack
the last line implies that the two have stayed in hotels together a lot and since that’s talking in the past tense and the first two lines are in the present tense, the two are still staying in hotel rooms together, that makes the idea of the couple being broken up unlikely
staring at someone while they’re sleeping in the moonlight is coded as a very romantic thing, saying that’s all they used to need implies a very simple type of relationship where their feelings mattered more than anything else
in keeping with the theme of closeting, my interpretation would be that they still value the simple beauty of spending time together and ordinary yet romantic things like nice lighting, but the last line would refer to how their simple relationship has been complicated by the pretending and closeting)
Tongue-tied like we've never known Telling those stories we already told 'Cause we don't say what we really mean
(this is about communication or more the lack of communication as we get “tongue-tied”, “telling those stories”, and “we don’t say” which all refer to speech
these references could be about the couple not communicating well and having a disconnect which would go along with the refrain of “we’re not who we used to be” and the ghost metaphor, “like we’ve never known” implies good communication in the past but not in the present
the references, as in my interpretation, could also be about things said in public, during interviews or in other situations, in that case “like we’ve never known” could be about a new lack of freedom to speak as they want
the lines would refer to not knowing what to say when forced to lie or not wanting to tell lies at all and being forced to- having tongues tied rather than having “hands tied”, having pre-planned stories about their relationship or their fake relationships with others to tell over and over again, and not telling the truth or deliberately phrasing things to leave room for interpretation respectively)
We're not who we used to be We're not who we used to be We're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me We're not who we used to be We're not who we used to be We're just two ghosts swimming in a glass half empty Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
(most of this is a repeat of the chorus, but it adds the line about a glass half empty, half empty glasses are used to show pessimism about a situation you’re in or just being stuck in a negative situation in general
ghosts aren’t ever portrayed as swimming really, the ghosts part is probably more related to the glass half empty reference, showing that the reason they’re feeling a bit dead like “ghosts” is because they’re in an unfortunate situation
the swimming part could be a counterpoint of positivity to the half empty glass, “treading water” and “sinking” are usually the negative way to talk about being in water vs. the more positive “floating” or “swimming”, “swimming” would be the most positive as it’s the most active instead of passively floating, this could imply that both people are doing their best to hold on during a tough situation that’s outside of their control)
Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat I'm just trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
(this is another repeat, but the last line switches things a bit from “we’re” to “I’m”, adding more immediacy and vulnerability as the writer isn’t speaking for anyone but the writer’s feelings in that moment
this could be seen as another way to emphasize a disconnect between the writer and “you”, but considering the writer has been saying “we” the whole time, that doesn’t seem to fit
in my interpretation, I would say that the change to a more immediate and personal pronoun is simply being used to enhance the emotion at the end of the song)
Overall
There are 3 ways I can see this being interpreted: as a dying relationship, remembering an already broken up relationship where the 2 people are still in proximity but not moving on well, or as a commentary on the feelings of having to hide a gay relationship while being public figures.
There are a couple lines that make the idea of a break up unlikely as it seems that “you” and “me” are still together or are at least going through the motions of the relationship: still sleeping in a hotel room together is one.
An interpretation of the song as being about a struggling relationship is convincing, but given that so many references match up to particular people and situations that are already known, it’s very, very likely that it’s not about an internally struggling relationship, but about a relationship being closeted instead.
The specific references are these:
blue eyes- Louis
red lips- Harry
same white shirt- the boyfriend shirt they shared a lot
couple more tattoos- both of them have a damn good few tattoos and Louis has even done a lyric change before about tattoos- “I can’t compete with my boyfriend, he’s got 27 tattoos”
I can’t touch what I see- several times Harry and Louis have been caught on camera pulling back from touching each other, touching each other in what’s obviously supposed to be a covert way, or starting at each other not-so-happily but not touching
fridge+moon= dark in hotel room- it’s unlikely a secret lover would have been traveling around with Harry, and that Harry would imply it was such a common part of the relationship, unless it was someone actually on tour, e.g. Louis
telling those stories we’ve already told- the one that comes to mind is the chicken stuffed with parm story that got told at least 5 or more times and was supposed to be about Louis’ girlfriend even though he made that first meal before he could have ever been with her in the timeline according to pictures that were posted on Twitter
cause we don’t say what we really mean- this heavily reminds me of the “denials” that Louis and Harry gave for Larry where if you listen to the words themselves, they dance around denying it instead of just doing it
Since the song was one that Harry said was written awhile ago- I’ve seen late 2013 said but I’m not sure of the source on that- that aligns the timing nicely for Harry to be writing a song about the effect closeting has had on him and Louis.
I think the song is about public perception vs reality and the struggles of closeting more than about struggles between Harry and Louis in their relationship itself. AKA: I’m sure they had some rough spots in the relationship between them because of closeting, but I don’t think the melancholy tone of the song was referring to that.

Three Not So Obvious Reasons for Owning CRE
This post originally appeared on Doug Marshall's Blog Marshall Commercial Funding Blog and is republished with permission. Find out how to syndicate your content with theBrokerList.
Why should you invest in real estate, especially since there are many other types of assets to choose from? There is one overpowering reason to do so, but before I tell you what it is, I want to explain the benefits of owning commercial real estate.
Four Well-Known Reasons
When comparing commercial real estate to owning most other types of investments, there are four distinct advantages:
The positive cash flow from real estate is a major advantage over owning most other types of investment. Stocks and bonds can also provide positive cash flow from their dividends. Bonds much more so than stocks, as an average dividend yield on the New York Stock Exchange is about 2 percent. But well managed CRE should generate significantly better cash flow, conservatively 6 to 8 percent and higher is not uncommon.
1031 exchanges on the sale of investment properties allow investors to defer capital gains taxes for decades. But if you sell another type of investment, you pay the capital gains that year.
Depreciation on real estate shelters income, reducing the investor’s income tax burden. No such tax benefit exists for owning other asset classes.
Using debt to buy property substantially increases an investor’s cash-on-cash return. How this happens will be explained in greater detail later in the book, but for now realize that modestly leveraging a property with debt can significantly improve its return on investment. This is a huge advantage of owning CRE over other types of investments.
These four reasons for owning real estate are commonly known benefits. However there are also three not so obvious reasons why investing in real estate is far superior to owning other types of investment assets. In my comments below, I will specifically focus on comparing real estate to owning stocks, because for many investors that is the logical alternative investment to owning real estate. But I believe this comparison is true of most other types of investments, not just owning equities.
Three Not So Obvious Reasons
1. The Concept of Efficient vs Inefficient Markets
The first less obvious reason to invest in real estate rather than owning stock has to do with the concept of efficient vs. inefficient markets. In an efficient market, everyone has the same financial information.
And you buy at whatever the price is. The stock market is a good example of an efficient market. Investors know the value of each stock. They have no legal way to buy a stock below the established market price.
The real estate market, on the other hand, is a perfect example of an inefficient market. The price of a piece of property is determined by what the seller and buyer agree upon. It has very little to do with the market at large. You make me an offer, and if I agree to it, we have a deal. It’s as simple as that.
It is far more advantageous to invest in an inefficient market because you may have information that the seller doesn’t, and this can make your investment worth much more than what the seller thinks it is worth. This happens all the time. The buyer sees a for-sale listing through a different set of eyes than the seller. He sees the property, not as it is, but for what it has the potential to become. Now the seller has decided it’s time to sell, for whatever reason. He doesn’t see the property’s potential. Instead he sees the issues that plague his property. Who has the more accurate assessment of the property? No one knows with certainty, even when the sales price is agreed to between seller and buyer. But over time, the property’s true potential will become readily apparent.
So the first not so obvious advantage of owning real estate over owning common stock is that it’s possible to buy real estate at a bargain price. You can never buy stock at a bargain, only at what is considered the market price.
2. RE Owners Can Influence the Outcome of Their Investments
The second not so obvious reason to invest in real estate rather than owning other types of investments is that real estate owners have considerable influence on the outcome of their investments. They can:
make capital improvements to tired properties,
change management for those properties that are poorly managed, an
re-tenant properties with better quality and higher paying tenants.
As an owner of stock, you’re a passive investor with no influence whatsoever on the value of your investment. You are truly a passive investor. You are at the whim of the emotions that control the stock market. Your particular stock might be doing well right now. But if the market takes a downward cycle, your stocks are going down in price with the rest of the market.
But the successful CRE investor is actively engaged with considerable influence on the value of his investment through a variety of ways. In commercial real estate, you actually have quite a bit of control over your investment and its potential for growth.
3. No More Need for Retirement Calculators
Finally, the third less obvious reason to invest in real estate versus stocks is no more need for retirement calculators. Yes, you heard me right, and here’s why I say this. You’ve likely seen the television commercials where people are asked how much money they think they need to save over their lifetime in order to retire comfortably. Their response is typically a shrug of the shoulders, a bewildered look, a financial guess, a “beats me,” or something equivalent. If your investments are in stocks, bonds, undeveloped land, precious metals, or other commodities, then a guess is about the best answer you can give. Who knows where these markets will be in ten years, twenty years, or thirty? It’s anybody’s guess, including the investment banking firm that produced the TV commercial.
But this is not so with commercial real estate. You can make a reasonable estimate as to how much you’ll need to have accumulated in real estate in order to retire comfortably. All you need to know are the answers to these three basic questions:
How much annual income before taxes do you need to retire comfortably?
When you retire, how much are you expecting to receive annually from social security or other pensions you will receive?
What is the current cash-on-cash return you’re receiving on your real estate investments?
Here’s an example
For example, let’s assume that you want $100,000 a year in income before taxes to live comfortably. As you get close to retirement age, the Social Security Administration sends you an annual letter stating what you will receive from them when you retire. Let’s assume you and your spouse will receive a total of $40,000 annually from social security.
Now, to determine your current cash-on-cash return on your real estate investments, add up all owner disbursements you received last year on your rental properties and then divide by the total initial cash investment in all of your properties. Depending on how good an investor you are, that could be anything, but I believe a 6- to 8-percent cash-on-cash return is a conservative estimate on well managed properties. So for discussion purposes, let’s assume your commercial real estate portfolio had a 6 percent cash-on-cash return last year. Now, let’s do the math:
Dividing $60,000 by 6 percent results in $1 million you will need to invest to make up the shortfall from your social security checks. In other words, over your lifetime, you will need to slowly grow your real estate investments until you have $1 million invested. If you are just starting out investing in real estate, this sounds like an enormous sum. But in reality, with prudent investing, this amount is attainable, in fact, quite likely to reach.
The good life – living off your rental property cash flow
So, in this example, in order to live comfortably, you will need to have invested $1 million in real estate generating on average a 6 percent cash-on-cash return. If you do, you will never have to worry about running out of money as long as your properties are generating 6 percent annually.
What happens if high inflation hits? If your rents over time increase with the rate of inflation, you’ll be fine. Living off the cash flow of your real estate portfolio means you never need to sell your properties to maintain your lifestyle. In fact, over time, your properties will continue to appreciate, increasing your equity even further in the years ahead.
Those are my thoughts. I welcome yours. What do you see as the primary advantages of owning CRE over another type of investment?
