Does it bothers you when people are like "Leia is so Anakin coded" or "Leia is so alike both Ani and Padme" while completely reducing Luke to "Padme in a boy's body". I have seen a few edits of the twins on tik tok lately and always when the video is about the parallels between Anakin and Luke the comments go "No. That is wrong. Luke is like Padme and Leia is like Anakin", or "you get the twins right, anakin-Leia, luke-padme".

And I have tbh, that pisses me off a bit, mostly on Luke's behalf since he is my fave, cause while I totally agree Luke has a lot of similarities with Padme, he also is alike Anakin in so many ways. And it upsets me a little people just trying to erase everything they have in common just to support this narrative. (Main reason why I don't like the reverse AU, or Senator Luke fics. The ones I have read just straigh up pushed this narrative, putting his love to fly, his passion, and many things that makes Luke be Luke to the side only to make him be a version of Padme)

It is also upsetting for Leia, since she is far away from being 100% like Anakin. They are both passionate and determined people, yes, but this doesn't make her be "Ani 2.0". And this narrative also completely dismiss the existence of Bail and Breha on her upbringing.

Both twins share a lot of similarities with both of their parents in different and intricated ways, with a lot of their own personality on the mix, what makes them unique. It baffles me see them being reduced to charicatures of their parents.

I agree with you, I understand fandom wants to have fun with memes but sometimes they go too far, Leia and Luke ultimately are their own persons and tbh those takes also do a big disservice to Anakin and Padme characters´reducing their arc and personality terribly and ignoring Owen, Beru, Bail and Breha influence on the twins emotional development.

But I will focus on Luke and his relationship to Anakin here.

Luke is a strong force sensitive with a good aptitude towards mechanical work, he is passionate, short tempered, idealist, has big dreams for the future, excellent pilot and soldier who cares more than anything for friends and family and causes he considers just, he is also kind and compassionate even if this doesn´t come easily to him, just like Anakin was at his age.

That said, he is also down to earth, pragmatic and has a no non-sense actitude when it comes to other people, see his reaction to Han trying to scam them on their travel to Alderaan, he doesn´t suffer people trying to make him feel inferior because he knows his own personal value, those are characteristics he got for being raised by his uncle and aunt, sure they lived on a desert planet full of Hutts, slavers, criminals and bounty hunters but they lived an honest way of life and didn´t believe they owned either group an ounce of their honest work, they only ever owned it to their family.

Anakin´s experiences shaped him differently on this matter, given his life as slave his mother teached him the art of bend,dont break by keeping his identity intact, this made him more susceptible to be ordered around by the Chancellor, the Jedi Council, the Republic sometimes even Padme even if this meant sacrificing his original hopes of freeing his mother, the slaves of tatooine and having a family.

Anakin developed low self esteem issues when he got separated from his mother because he no longer had her unconditional support and knew the reason why he was trained by the Jedi was contingent to his habilities and what he could do for the Order, not because he as a person, was important or would have been chosen for himself as a Jedi if he wasn´t so strong in the force but he learned to keep his real self buried and protected from outside forces while using the systems controlling him to his advantage. Palpatine managed to break him but even Vader was able to keep part of his real self alive despite the Emperor´s many efforts to turn him completely to the darkside ,which Luke noticed thanks to his bond to his father.

Those characteristics Luke got from his Uncle and Aunt served Luke well when he confronted the Emperor, Obi-Wan and Yoda, he already was interested in being a Jedi because of his father but this didn´t mean he was going to blindly follow whatever order Yoda and Obi-Wan gave him as much as he personaly appreciated and loved them as people and masters in the force and he certainly wasn´t going to act as if the Emperor wasn´t trying to destroy his familiar bond to his father when he didn´t even know the guy, took his father from him before he was born and was the rebellion´s main adversary, all Palpatine was for Luke was an objetive to kill on sight and Palpatine knew this, that´s why he temped him to the darkside by giving him the oportunity to kill him. Luke is also of the mind that if he doesn´t agree with something and that something is the source of great pain for others he is 100% justified in destroying it, see Jabba´s palace, the death star, the Empire. Anakin´s style is more "I know the system doesn´t work, it sucks but I will be damned if I don´t try to fix it or work around it" because he often feel as if he had no other choice.

Many fans take for granted the fact Luke forgave his father as his main personality trait when the opposite is the truth, Luke wasn´t a stranger to violence because he lived on a planet in which if you didn´t learn to take care of yourself you could die and as part of the rebellion he wasn´t a stranger to killing imperials and losing loved ones to the cause, the interesting thing about Luke´s CHOICE of saving his father isn´t that it was part of his nature all along, it´s the fact that´s pretty much agaisn´t his natural temperament, saving Vader went agaisn´t his natural care for family, Vader may be his father but he hurt his friends and Leia, saving Vader was the least pragmatic choice acording to his identity as a rebel and Jedi, saving Vader went agaisn´t his own feelings of abandoment and yearning for a father feeling betrayed by Anakin´s turn to the darkside.

Still Luke made this choice because he felt how utterly isolated and broken Vader was and he cared enough for the image of the father he never knew, a father he knew could still be there, to show him some uncomplicated, familiar love once again, the kind his aunt and uncle showed him, if only for Luke´s own peace of mind that he truly tried everything to make his father feel better, while his pragmatic side took care of things by letting Leia know about his mission and telling her they had to attack the DSII anyway even if he was there because the cause of freeing the galaxy from the Empire was still more important than his personal feelings and issues with his father.

The narrative gives Luke the victory, saving his father from the darkside which lead to the destruction of the Emperor and the Empire, for being loving and compassionate despite this not coming natural to him but as part of his personal grow and maybe, as the legacy of the two women who shaped his family without him meeting them, Shmi and Padme and the person his father used to be.

Luke and the Skywalker family in general are waaay more than some fans give them credit.

While I absolutely agree that we can and should and in fact MUST talk about the abominable historical legacies of the characters featured in Turn, I wonder if people are forgetting this is a hotness bracket (for fun!) and not a morality bracket. I'm already seeing some historical inaccuracies and broad generalizations doing the rounds in the service of vote propaganda, which helps no one, least of all those who suffered at the time and continue to suffer today as a result of racist and sexist historical legacies.

i completely agree that some of the propaganda sent in has been inaccurate and/or lacking proper nuance and TRUST i did just straight up delete the most egregious of the anon's i've received. while there have definitely been some bad takes that i have responded to, believe me when i say those are only the tip of the iceberg

i'll admit that i am not a perfect person and i am also only one person who works full time and also has a social life in the outside world. i have been sent a LOT of asks, so sometimes really stupid takes are gonna slip through the cracks

i do encourage the discussion tho, and even tho some people have sent in some pretty dumb/inaccurate takes, people can always respond to those takes. even tho this is a hotness bracket, the point of the bracket was to increase buzz in the fandom, whether that be through memes, edits, or meta—which includes these moral discussions. i dont really think it's really my place to legislate what broad strokes subjects are ok to propagandize about. for some people morals make a difference in how they vote. for others it's just about physical appearance or personality or a myriad of other things

Can I say something that might possibly be a 'hot take'?

I really don't like the rise of the whole 'He would not fucking say that' meme (and a lot of its variations). I know it's probably a joke (I'm too autistic to tell how serious people are with it lol.), and I can understand being annoyed when someone writes a character OOC, but OOC-ness is not really that big of a deal. Don't like, don't read, you know

I feel like it's also going to cause a lot of paranoia in fanwork creators, and I don't like that. And I should know, it's caused some paranoia in me (even though I've always been of the opinion that OOC-ness doesn't matter, in fact I celebrate it, just let people have fun. Despite all this, the meme still affects me and makes me worry)

I feel like the only time that OOC-ness can be a problem is when an indivisual/a fandom has a fanon that they like and they don't let anyone disagree with or write differently then that fanon. But I feel like that's not even an issue with OOC-ness, it's an issue with people (usually BNFs) being jerks and trying to get other people to conform to what they want

8: common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

ough............... ok at the risk of this being like. legitimately combative (and with the disclaimer that i love him he is me i am he and i would not ever change a thing about him in either a watsonian or doylist sense).

i dont think jon did Literally Nothing Wrong per se? i think, esp in like, s1-3, he chooses what is essentially the best and most sensible option from where he's standing at the time and i fully understand and under similar circumstances would act in accordance with his actions. but i think the aspect of jon-related conversation, jonversation if you will, that i really don't agree with, or at least find any personal interest in, is that which kinda suggests that he's never acting in a selfish or misguided or even dysfunctional way? because i don't think that's true.

to be clear, i think he's a deeply, deeply caring character who does genuinely want to do things to protect and strengthen and help other people. one hundred percent. but i think one of the conflicts at his core, regardless of what one may think of as the reasoning behind it, is the conflict between that great capacity for caring about and loving others and his frequent inability to go about it in ways that do actually benefit others, or even that do keep him safe, whether we're talking physically or psychologically. i think he, like a Lot of people, especially those with early traumas, learned at some point in his life that an apology must demonstrate remorse, and the optimal way of doing that is by flagellating. so it's truly not any sort of wilful, or even knowing, malice or dysfunction. he is, as he almost always is, doing the best he can with the information from which he's working, but i also think that doesn't mean he's never done wrong or done harm, just that it isn't driven by any sort of desire to hurt.

also (i didnt mean for this to be this long but i had another thought wah) i think a further complication is that when he is acting in an intentionally (or at least, not unintentionally) self-sabotaging or self-harming way, from what we see he feels and enacts the self-loathing after the fact in quite a similar way. again, this is a pretty huge extrapolation, but i think he probably grew up in an environment where all his wrongs were treated as exactly equal, and so he actually feels comparable levels of guilt regardless of the finer points of the infraction itself. that could reasonably explain the consistency in him but. i guess what im saying is my man contains. multitudes. and to me personally the times he falls short are some of the most intriguing.

I honestly don’t know what tags you’ve been looking through, because personally I’ve seen a lot of great posts regarding the characters in IHNMAIMS that fall way outside of the memes and other content.

With every fandom there’s going to be parts you don’t like, so then I’d encourage you to block those and not engage with them. Telling people to go die because you saw something /you/ didn’t like is just plain immature and really weakens your point about the fandom, because you’re contributing to the unlikable parts of it.

I’ve seen so much love for Ellen and Benny in particular, many people are very aware parts of the characters’ backstories and actions. Nimdok has rightfully gotten a hate for his backstory, as he should, and I agree that portraying him in something like a cosplay is insensitive.

Part of being in a fandom is having fun, and I personally think a lot of the “toxic yaoi” posts are jokes or memes, which will be present in every fandom.

But you’re so right about the AM human designs. In my opinion, he shouldn’t even have a human design, because the entire point is he will /never/ be human.

i think your points are well worded and i will acquiesce that saying Die is a tad bit mean! however i do disagree with you because the majority of the content i have filtered - and blocked! - still gets through my filters. i shouldnt have to block every iteration of a tag for a work of fiction that i love because a bunch of people have decided the cool edgy thing of the month is now a short story that was written to illustrate the horror of humanity, morality, and inhumanity. i saw this happen with cry of fear - which i will say, it was wonderful seeing it get the love it deserved! buuuut then it just turned into simon/david. and thats the majority of popular tags. im seeing this happen with blood meridian! i saw this happen with the stanley parable, half life (and its spin offs), etc etc etc… and i know how this ends. people start callouts, they start doxxing campaigns, and then you end up with a tag so muddied its unusable. when i go into the ted ihnmaims tag, it takes me two dedicated minutes of scrolling to get past the x readers, the uwu softboi schtick, the spam tags now. this time last year half of these people didnt even know what ihnmaims WAS.

william afton is a villain. he's a horrible despicable person. but he also has his moments. even the most unforgivable people do. but, i do NOT agree with the fandoms desire to turn him into a p*do. that's even worse than what he already is. and what he already is is terrible. that's why he's headcanon based. i've worked on his canon for ages at this point. i dont actually care what scott produces now, i'm doing what i want with him, but i will take inspiration from the series. i do tend to follow along with what my partners write in fandom though, for ease.

cassandra is my character now, but her past iterations have been on this blog for over 10 years now. since september 2013, in fact. she used to be b.urton's dormouse, and named mallymkun, but she's not anymore. she's my own (sort of) girl. she's my character now, and a cheshire cat now. she's evolved well beyond any past 'canons' i may have had. her most progressed and written out verses are the 'canon' verse, and my o.nce u.pon a t.ime verse. but i do have verses in multiple other fandoms for her.

there's a level of reflection i put into these characters. william is often considered a great man by those around him. tragedy follows him, and people are unaware that he is the cause of that tragedy. he uses his charm and prestige to his advantage. he takes full advantage of others innocence to make himself look better, and is an excellent liar. he's still a serial killer, and oft twists herrings into his words.

cassandra, on the other hand, is often twisted into a villain by those around her in her home. when in truth, she's monstrously loyal, but holds care she doesn't know what to do with. she's painted a villain by the monarchy to ensure she can't gain traction, and she's in hiding for most of her life to avoid imprisonment. she's not necessarily a hero, and even her species consider her existence a threat, but she's not entirely a villain either unless she's pushed to the point. she does holds reigns with the image of a sacrificial lamb, but she can very very easily turn into a monster herself if the charge arises.

(if you recognize me from the past and don't want to follow me, that's fine. i remember some people but not everyone. i know some of my old friends have new guidelines that i wouldn't fall under, and that's chill. your comfort first babes.)

As someone who have literally witnessed this, your feelings are beyond valid. I love u so much. Preacher’s daughter and everything you have ever made mean so much to me and they are literal masterpieces. Honestly, i mostly like the jokes in hopes of them reaching a bigger audience simply because i love u and i h8 how rare it is to find ethel stans in real life who know the lore and obsesses over it as much as me. And sometimes one reel could be the spark that starts all that. Giving u more streams and hopefully more money to fund more projects and hopefully physicals because i NEED IT. Is that selfish? Probably. Does it come with negatives? Absolutely. Is it worth it? As a barb first and foremost I think it totally is. Nicki is such a perfect example. Because she decides how seriously to take us. And treats the fans as literal children when they go crazy yet we always feel like we can joke with her and always appreciate her genius work all together. I feel like it’s something that all public figures have to deal with once famous enough and cannot be avoided.

I can never understand how you personally feel about this from your pov, and all the comments u receive but i find its very important and healthy for u to just simply filter these unserious people out whenever youre not in the mood and like. Log off. Or move to a different platform like nicki with queen radio which was literally the point of these radio shows that have now become as simple as ig lives. Not everybody has the energy to keep up with those esp if theyre boring in the beginning or maybe just stick more to tumbler or alt accounts whenever u want to discuss your art and those who care WILL be there to give u every ounce of support. But honestly these jokes are just another way of showing support and love. To these people and meme pages this is charity and their way of helping u gain more global attention and success which we all believe you deserve because of the greatness of your art. Whether u agree or disagree. I really appreciate the new album title and hope it shoos away the unserious children. But it is what it is. While we who care about u most will take these rants very seriously, those same people you complained about wont even read it. So yeah. Try these things. When u see something blown out of context yell at us in a simple story. When u wanna get serious, simple address the fans seriously just like a parent does. This way u ensure control over the fandom and maintain mutual respect and support! Those of us who love u wont go no matter how much u cuss us out. So let your emotions out. And we will always try to make fame a more pleasant experience. But as we all know its a curse. That also comes with benefits. Not saying this just as a barb, but everybody envies the relationship we have with nicki. She was literally in the middle of the street with fans surrounding her and she was doing a better job than crowd control + cops. And i know you are as great and as capable of such things despite how difficult it may seem. Keep reminding yourself that you have all the power over us. You can punish us with delays reward us with surprises etc. this is literally what nicki does. Like actual. Kids. And when u do that, us real fans feel entitled to play the big sister role, and we start individually making sure the childish people who don’t appreciate your art stay in their place. I hope u get my point. I love u so much. I wish i could elaborate more but i fear i already wrote too much and i really want u to read it so i dont want it to be overwhelming even tho its very messy and all over the place and i suck at explaining myself i really hope you see where im cominh from as i can literally go on about this for hours. I thought about making a video on this topic but I decided to just write it out in a post instead. Either way, I'd like to speak a bit more specifically about a drunk rant I made on a separate account the other day that was not as well put together as I'd like to stand as my viewpoints on the subject.

tl:dr, I just feel as though there's a lack of sincerity in the world these days. I speak from personal experience as an artist putting things out into the world, yes, but also as a human being interacting with other human beings on the regular, and I have had my sentiments echoed by many other friends of mine over the past year or so, both artists and non-artists alike. Most of this will be framed through the consumption of art, because that's my own personal passion in this life of mine, but also the way we interface with each other and process the world around us. Now, don't get me wrong, I love to laugh. I love a good joke, and I love lightheartedness as much as the next person. But I saw someone this morning put it very succinctly in response to my rant, something along the lines of "don't let the joke about it overtake the source material." It feels as though it's a common occurrence these days to take a pinch of something with a lot more weight to it, often a humorous bit, and then run with it. Everyone then gathers around the pinch to ooh and ahh and consume it as a whole. Context is immediately lost, the legacy of that body of work becomes its own caricature, and anyone discovering that body of work via said caricature may forgo a piece of art they would otherwise love because "there's nothing there". And don't think this is me griping at those making jokes at the expense of my art. I make jokes about my own art. But when the joke dies, yet continues to grow, and spread, and finds its way back to me both on the internet and off for months (or, God forbid, years) to come, I can't help but say to myself; what the fuck is happening. Artists have fled the public and all their outlets for personality and expression outside the medium because they feel ridiculed. It's not even just their art. Katya comes to mind, speaking on how she went on youtube live a few years back in literal tears talking about police brutality and the injustices marginalized communities were facing at the hands of the government. Meanwhile, the entire comment section "yass" and "mother"ed her in barrages, not paying attention to anything she had to say. I get asked about when I'm dropping Preacher's Daughter vinyl en masse in response to my Palestine fundraiser links. It's everywhere and it's inescapable. No one can be serious for even two seconds.

This may all sound obnoxious; so be it. I tie strings from this central problem to many other complaints I have heard repeated ad nauseam the past few years. For example; the death of subculture. Goth, punk, whatever, you name it. People who built an underground counterculture movement with a rich history based on a love of art, community, and otherwise misunderstood worldviews and experiences deemed foul or inappropriate. Now we see bits taken from it, the terms and the looks, without any of the meat, spread thin across society as a whole. Words mean nothing anymore. One can rest on history and say they were a part of it when in fact, they did nothing. No appreciation or understanding to be had for the love and passion that built it. No serious interaction with the culture's very real confines and boundaries, just mindless co-opting. This has just as much to do with late stage capitalism as it does with excessive humor in lieu of sincerity, but it's certainly both. Again, this may sound like a silly complaint, but I don't care. The collective ennui we're all experiencing has a very real reason, whether we're ready to acknowledge or not.

In a twisted thread, it's even tied to our lack of care to change the world around us. People cheer on the idea of communism, but who among us is ready to give up the convenience of society as it stands? Amazon prime, doordash, fresh fruit out of season as I saw someone mention in a similar post last week; the marvels of modern technology. Do we really think these things can last in a society that isn't actively destroying the planet? We talk about the idea of something all day long but have very little to do with the actuality of what we're talking about. And don't think I consider myself exempt from this problem. I couldn't even try to claim to be. It seems nearly silly to be complaining, then, about the way people consume the art around them these days as we creep towards what feels like the end of days. But as long as I still draw breath, I must complain.

I miss genuine passion. As an autistic individual, when I'm alone, sometimes I cannot contain myself with how things make me feel. The music I listen to, the video games I play, the books I read. I almost feel the need to run through the house and scream in everyone's face how I'm feeling. It feels good to love intensely. Now, I won't pretend like autistic people haven't been bullied for this since the dawn of time, but there is surely a noticeable lack of passion in everything these days. Everyone can feel it, everyone is talking about it. Everything now is "cringe", or "doing too much", or "not that serious". Actually, it is that serious. Insecurity in one's own deeper feelings may not be a new thing, but a culture that seems to promote this eschewing of them does seem to be a new evil. The tone of the internet has completely shifted. I spent most of my time here when I first discovered it a little over a decade ago on Zelda forums and other chat-based websites, talking about how much I loved whatever fandom I was in at the time and having genuine and memorable interactions with like-minded individuals who felt the same way I do. Now, you have two options; if you hate media, you rip it to shreds, and if you love it, you word-salad it to death and parrot a joke about it that someone else said. I'm not saying people don't still talk seriously in a heartfelt way about the things they love, but it does not seem to be the initial reaction anymore. Do I have a solution to this problem? Of course not. I'm a 26 year old girl posting on a tumblr blog. If I had a solution, this is not where I would be dropping it. But conversation is God to man, and I believe in the ability to change things from the inside out. We make the rules, and we can change them.

Before I go, I'd like to just clarify that I am very grateful for my career, grateful to anyone who has ever given me and my art the time of day, grateful to anyone who has ever come up to me and connected with me over my work, and grateful for a life where someone making too many jokes is the worst part of my day. I do not think I am better nor smarter than anyone on or off the internet. I am simply a girl with big feelings and I enjoy talking about them with other people with big feelings, and it makes me sad when something avoidable or unnecessary gets in the way of that.

All in all, I love to love, and I love all of you, I love my life, I love this record, and mi amore vo- i mean.... oh, whatever.

blue and ronan are really good friends: i know basically the whole fandom agrees on this but like. i think they develop a relationship sort of similar to what ronan and noah's relationship was, but ronan sort of treats blue like a sister

the one who takes to it the least well...adam. dont hate me im not saying he's a bad person by any means, but he's the most independent thinker of them all, imo, and so he's like ok that may be true but i'm going to come to my own conclusions about things and form my own opinions. the only downside of this is that he doesn;t take the perspectives of other people into acount, so he bases his conclusions off of his own experience as a cishet-passing white man

i think he and blue fight somewhat often post-canon because blue tries to get him to think like her and he doesnt like it and purposefully says stuff to piss her off in response

i also think adam has some internalized ableism and homophobia so blue will say things like "but you're queer/disabled/poor, therefore you should think this way or that way" and it'll just alienate adam further

Yeah i guess it sounds like it which is a shame. I mean San Lang was already taller than him, his hair was basically the same length too, the only thing that they'd have to add in his "real" form would be the eyepatch.... But noooooooo the sexy sexy top has to be like 200cm tall and buff and whatever. Over the top, exaggerated masculinity just for the sake of fanservice... I actually liked San Lang too, it matched his personality! But maybe the author found that too close to the Wei Wuxian guy... Maybe? Since - obviously I'm speaking only about his design - but he seemed like this youthful quirky guy and a bit of a meanie. But still, she could've at least explained when and why the fuck Hua Cheng went through a fucking growth spurt while being immortal lol. Even if we take the time between his "rebirth" after taking on the curse in the kingdom and his rejection of ascension, there's just no way of justifying it.......

Yeah.......... I mean I haven't interacted with fandom, I only really looked up the tags on IG in search of fanart while really curious about characters' official and fanon designs, but from the looks of it, from the fanarts and comments and memes, I unfortunately have to agree and it does sound like they kind of make Hua seem like a fucking sex-obsessed freak and not a guy who waited 800 years and then was too fucking nervous to touch his beloved's hand once they finally met. Like I absolutely REFUSE to believe that he WASN'T a virgin just as much as Xie was (on top of everything else he did spend all his life thinking he was ugly after all). He so clearly respected the fact that Xie Lian was in celibate, didn't tease him until literally like the very last part of the novel and even then it was just about fucking kisses, there were even moments when he was like aware that he crossed the line and was sooooo apologetic. Which is why I absolutely do not believe he would wanna coerce Xie into saying passwords like "I wanna suck hua chengs dick sooo bad" ESPECIALLY since he knew Xie would probably only try to contact him at life-threatening moments.

Sucky to hear that.... Like I said I dont think I'd read the comic but I glanced at some screencaps on IG and idk about character design but the art style in itself is actually really pretty. I absolutely love the way that artist draws hair and eyes.......

SO TRUE!!!!!!! I was actually anticipating it so much and I absolutely expected the last two chapters that's just hualian trying to figure out how to make it work and how to make it legal, because theres no way a wedding between the two would have been an easy thing to do. A small part of me thought maybe either Hua would become a heavenly official or Xie would go down to hell or something, and I'm so disappointed that part has been so just.... completely skipped. Not even in extras! :( Hua just mentions "consummating" which obviously implies a marriage (idk if it counts if you consummate just a relationship, as loving as it might be, doesn't it HAVE to be official...?) but that's it....... Heartbreaking........ I could I guess head out to read fanfiction but why bother if it's not official :(

Honestly I might actually read either one of those now that I actually got through this. Although I'm surprised TGCF is considered superior (I even encountered some tweets claiming that...) because I was so sure mdzs is a fan-favorite! I kept seeing it everywhere for years now, if not about the novel then the Manga or the live action show.... But we'll see. Hope it'll be worth looking into!

So I recently finished reading TGCF... But I have a problem with two things. Spoilers ahead obviously.

In human years, Xie Lian is about 10 years older than Hua Cheng, yes? Since Xie Lian gets turned into an immortal at 17 and doesnt physically age anymore... So how is it that Hua Cheng dies before turning 18 like the fortune said? Because he dies as a soldier... But there is no way that a decade has passed before the war, no??? I can't remember exactly - I feel like I've read the whole thing too fast, the timeline feels blurry in my head - but hasn't it been less than a year since Xie Lian steps down to help for the first time? Isn't that when the war breaks out? That should still make Hua Cheng a child, not a nearly adult teenager...

But THEN - even if I assume I misread that and he actually did die at 16-17, where the hell did the adult form of him come from??? Wouldn't that make the one that followed Xie to puqi shrine the "real" form??? Since that's approximately the age he died?? His image with the eyepatch and the pearl bead and all that, it kept being described as a man in his 20s.... I keep trying to think what have I missed, but even the time he gets killed as a "no name" ghost for the first time, too, he's also in his actual time-of-death state. That much was clear. So what was up with the sudden body change? This whole time, between dying as a ghost, to rejecting becoming a god, he was an immortal still, in one way or another. He couldn't age, right??? It was never mentioned that in the process of becoming the ghost king he could mature physically as he was gathering more power. The only thing explained seemed to be the eye part.

What am I missing here????? No doubt there must be something I misread or accidentally skipped, but what.... What's the explanation for it???????????? How did Hua grow more and Xie didn't even though they were both turned immortal at approx the same age????????????????????????

Also, actually another thing that really annoyed me: that damn array password being left unrevealed. Not that I was that curious of what it was, but I expected it to be revealed and it wasn't, not even in the extras (and in the extras it was even revealed what the last mural was which was EXTREMELY obvious and didn't need to be said). So I went on reddit and I only found theories and someone mentioned that the author stated that "it's to stay between hualian". Which made me even more annoyed LOL because it just makes it sound like even she couldn't come up with what it could be. Personally I don't think it would be sexual, since obviously hua had a ton of worshippers and was a pretty boy and everything, so a lot of people, especially residents of ghost town, wouldn't actually mind saying some stupid stuff like praising his dick or something. I think it would be something like "hua cheng is the best husband in the world" because by the time Xie learned it obviously they still weren't a couple and if it was something Xie-specific (like "San Lang" since he's the only one to refer to him with that. He was soooooooo embarrassed of being so in love with Xie Lian he would NEVER force him to say this kind of stuff in fear of revealing too openly wanting to be spoken to in such way).

I don't know LOL I think I'm overthinking this way too much. But I don't want to give too much shit to the author, I think the story was fun and idk I honestly enjoyed it. Should I draw fanart. I kind of want to.... But yeah I think that's all I really have to say about it lol. It was fun! Definitely not watching the anime or reading the comic or anything else. Genuinely surprised there was no *actual* sex scene though. Also no wedding?????? I can't believe there was no wedding.... Have I missed a chapter or two???? How was there no wedding............ That's so crazy. I can forgive the lack of sex scenes but no wedding...... I'm so disappointed. I was actually so excited to read about a god + ghost wedding. That would be so interesting.

i really really dislike what feels like majority of the interpretation of the legolas/gimli relationship, like the way people portray them is sooo weird…the constant mutual antagonizing and the focus on bickering!!!! its another movie adaptation thing, because those removed most, if not all tenderness from them (the miniscule gay budget got used up for sam & frodo i guess). the appeal of gimli and legolas is not that they bicker the appeal is that they love eachother so much despite the general tensions between their peoples (although im not a fan of those tensions being overplayed for dramatics) and despite erus prophecy that there would always be conflict between elves and dwarves!!!!!!!!!!

i dislike the common fanon/movie portrayal of gimli but i think ive actually talked enough about that so im gonna talk about legolas because i also disagree with the common interpretations his character seems to find, although it doesnt bother me as much as with gimli, mostly because people still think hes cool. ANYWAYS! i think painting legolas as super hair- and beauty-obsessed (to the point of it bordering on homophobia) was luckily mostly left in the past, though pinterest still bombards me with bad memes, but i still really hate it 😒 another common thing ive seen, thats also more current, is legolas as an idiot who eats bugs or whatever which IS more fun than the first one and also closer to his book-self but i still dislike it simply because i hate when a happy/optimistic character gets headcanoned as being stupid…its unappealing and boring and i dont think its implied anywhere that legolas is exceptionally dumb :( i do like weird kid legolas a lot though hes special to me <3.

anyways since were on the topic of legolas lets talk about his family since thats another fandom/HOBBIT MOVIES favorite to distort! legolas mother is very very likely a silvan elf and very likely not dead in my opinion . i personally think silvan elves are neutral/if not positively inclined towards dwarves 👍 dont like the common fanon of extreme hatred that was taught to legolas by his parents and also dont dont dont like fanon thranduil & everything the hobbit movies made him out to be!!!!!!! i dont doubt that thranduil had some ill will towards dwarves since the whole thingol slaying and doriath thing… but thranduil is canonically a very good king and very kind, and i dont think he would let a grudge against a specific dwarf clan define his relations to a neighbouring kingdom that doesnt even belong to the same clan!!! someone who kept his kingdom save and out of trouble for so long and also has the closest relations to their neighbouring kingdom of men out of all the elven realms would be better than that and atleast be neutral and not hostile sorry this wasnt meant to be about the hobbit movies but i could go ON a out them i cant see legolas in those without laughing at him dear god. the implication that legolas, who supposedly hated dwarves, shared a horse with gimli and then was a changed man is very funny though.

also, since im going off on a tangent anyways, i think mîm didnt do anything wrong and also thingol and the dwarven smiths were both at fault for the conflict. sorry for the dwarf bias but someone has to be on their side because i still see too many people hating on them

back to lotr: i think blond blue eyed legolas is boring, i hate what they did to elrond and boromir in the movies, i think saruman and sauron being basically brothers is a very funny interpretation that we should talk about more and i hateee almost all modern lotr aus because its hars to replicaze into modern world and also aragorn would NOT be a CEO!!!!!!!!!! a good king in tolkienverse is benevolent and puts his subjects first and he is a healer. i tried to find out if we know how long exactly the dwarves were imprisoned, and it seems it was about 20 days, while gollum was there for around 90 days, so perhaps they would have let the dwarves get some fresh hair eventually as well . not that gloin wasnt rightfully angry, he was! and still very gracious about it . love gloin hes great

also TRUE unpopular opinion incoming: im neutral on sam/frodo…its cute yes but i dont have any big thoughts about them and i think sam and rosie are very sweet :^) but also i dont trust people who completely dislike it esp cishets…. legolas and gimli are basically canon to me like they did that. okay ready for another TRUE AND REAL unpopular opinion. i think faramir is kind of boring and i dont care much for him, sorry ❤️‍🩹

getting backlash for like any character can be annoying and stressful to have fun in the fanbase, especially when they're usually the most liked or hated. they are many reasons why people like/hate what people hated/liked and we dont always excused/endorsed their canon actions. i would want to be accused of anything if i write and draw abotu a hated figure, even whe i go AGAINST CANON(like a headcanon or AU)

i think people are too quick to judge because there are a multitude of reasons someone might like something, and by assuming they someone condone something just because they like something implies the person in question might not have other reasons to be interested in that character/media, ect.

since belos was the character brought up in question when first asked, i should mention in my case he was the first character in the show i actually got really interested in (No offence to any of the other characters, they’re not bad, the emperor was just the character that really peaked my interest).

I was intrigued by the mystery around him, who or what he is, all the weird and off putting things about him, also i just like his design and i REALLY love his voice it’s so good and fitting for his character.

the human theory for him is still my favorite and i was onboard with it before s2 only fueled that idea further to how it is now where he’s basically heavily implied to be philip.

now hunter is my favorite character, belos is my 2nd, the irony of that is still amusing to me.

Even funnier because the wittebane brothers are kinda like...my 3rd, so it’s almost like the same 2 characters are my favorites because of the clone and phiip/belos thing.

(For a lot of people amity is one of their favorites and i’ve seen someone even talk about how annoying it is hunter and amity are everyone’s top favorites, and then there’s me who has BELOS WAY above amity when he’s not most people’s favorite character ever XDD)

but regardless of that, i’m not blissfully unaware belos is a prick, like i’ve chewed him out every time he does anything bad to hunter on the show, like he’s a dictator and he treats hunter like crap.

But, i still love watching belos because i think he’s fascinating, i think he’s fun to pick apart and examine, he’s fun to meme the crap out of, and he’s just fun to hate and talk about.

my feelings on belos are summed up basically “God i hate that smug pretty bastard, i can’t wait to see him again”.

i could talk about the theories around him and the potential of watching philip and the pain and suffering he went through to probably turn into belos for hours cause i think it’s just fascinating, I like talking about how belos probably came to be and how he got the views he did.

And if we’re right about these ideas i kinda agree with some of his points on wild magic being dangerous and why he would hate it, while also thinking he clearly went too far as he went about it not caring who got in the way.

and in some ways if the philip thing is true (Which at this point i’m sure it is), i can kinda feel bad for him to an extent while still hating him, because he clearly got driven to a breaking point.

honestly if things turn out like like i think they might, he’s probably gonna be a FAR more effective “Magneto-type” character then Toffee in star vs, who WAS supposed to be that archtype but it wasn’t handled well.

For me i think the fandom kinda sleeps on belos, i think he’s more interesting then people give him credit for.

my reasons for liking him are clearly more complex then those who would assume the worst would claim.

people have their reasons to like bad characters, people can enjoy archetypes that aren’t perfect pretty people who do everything right, there’s a reason Disney Villains are some of the disney characters people like the most.

sometimes villians are just fun.

and even if people’s reasons aren’t complex, who cares? What will draw people to a character or show or movie, ect, will be different for everyone. I clearly have an interest in belos for his complex character, some people might just love him because they think he’s hot, and they can do that man it’s not hurting anyone.

i think the short version is, pls stop assuming things about people based on their interests.

Because I think tagging sexually explicit writing (and other media, like erotic/pornographic art) in tags that are most frequented by all demographics in a fandom, including minors, is inconsiderate (and, among adults, its irresponsible).

No where in my post did I demand ppl do anything lol. I started my post with "i wish", which is not a request or mandate, but a personal vent expressed with gramatical modality lol. I wish that ppl would have more courtesy about how they tag their sexually explict content, especially of the teenage characters in the movie.... but, alas. Lol

If you took this post personally, then thats unfortunate. If you took this post as an entry into a debate then... thats also unfortunate lol.

But to be clear, since there was apparently confusion, you dont have to do anything just because I made this post. I just find it tactless and jarring to constantly find kink related posts in common, or "normal" fandom tags, like #[character name] and even "avatar 2".

It really feels like youre reacting to a strawman you imagined by projecting many preconcieved notions about what I believe, which is strange because the conclusion that I have a problem with ppl having sexual desires and sexual expressions in and of themselves and want to start some sort of censorship campaign in the Tumblr Avatar fandom in the name of my feelings is completely false lol.

Not only am I mainly venting in a meme format, but I dont believe its unreasonable to post a grievance about a fandom phenomena I've noticed; that some people in this fandom, particularly those who are part of the kink community—which is supposedly about consent among participating adults—can sometimes lack self awareness and fail to regulate their content away from minors and those who dont consent to view and participate in it as much as possible (which, imo, is more responsible and enjoyable for the engagement of fandom, and kink participants and non participants alike).

Furthermore, I think its an agreeable and reasonable standard in online spaces that minors shouldnt be exposed to or interact with sexually explicit content, nor should anyone else who wasnt looking for it. Tumblr's tag system, particularly on mobile (which is my main medium), reveals any and all posts with keywords in search results and filters. Partly bc its broken, partly bc thats how search functions work. So one would expect a Tumblr user whos active in kink circles on the platform to be considerate of Tumblr's functioning and try to funnel their works to their targeted demographics as much as possible, whom are other adults and consenting participants of events like "kinktober", not everyone in the Avatar fandom (one particular way I've seen is using special tags or avoiding frequented tags).

Lastly, its just very uncomfortable and honestly concerning seeing so many kink posts abt teenage characters from AWOW from bloggers who are not always clear abt their own age and from writers who dont even age up the characters (tho, personally, i dont think that makes much difference). For instance, scrolling thru the "#na'vi" tags and seeing a post with a screenshot from AWOW of Neteyam captioned with something like "i wanna rub my [redacted] on his back" is rlly disturbing, quite frankly, and so is seeing st_p.s_bling or vo_yerism content about teenage Lo'ak

If someone is writing in a fandom, they are absolutely able and welcome to put them in the main fandom tags, no matter what they're writing. If you don't want to see it? Block the relevant tags, block the writers, do whatever you need to do.

I dont have an issue with anyone simply writing in the fandom lol. I wasnt refering to censorship or demands abt who writes what and when. I'm venting abt courtesy and responsibility that I wish more Avatar fans on Tumblr had specifically abt posting sexually explicit content in fandom tags frequented by all fans.

Blocking the tags would mean blocking "normal" or common tags for the fandom, including main character names and their normal tags (ex "#Neteyam", etc), which would make interacting in the Avatar fandom on Tumblr very restricting. I've found plently of smut, and now "kinktober" content, among tags like "Avatar 2" while scrolling that, I do, indeed, scroll past (I also blacklist smut and kink tags).

But theres only so much manual curating one can do to filter out sexual content before it becomes an issue of some fandom participants lacking courtesy to other fans and not regulating their content as a group. This is what I'm complaining about on my blog, not the fact that ppl in the fandom write certain content I dont fancy or have sexual desires and can express them through media bc they are human beings with human feelings lol.

But god, "don't post this in the main fandom tags because I, personally, don't like it" is such a ridiculous approach. Especially combined with the "normal = no sex" and "weirdos = people engaging in smut and kink" puritanical approach.
