Alternative Universe that I'm way too lazy to write so I'm just gonna dump what I have here
The AU is that Krypton was never destroyed and Kal-El and his parent's lived there happily, while Bruce is an astronaut that gets lost in space and accidentally ends up in Krypton, being put under the microscope by a fascinated Kal-El. I was rewatching MAWS S2 and thought about Kryptonian Kal-El and how he's so cute but also the potential. Nothing against Lois. I think she's the best parter for Superman, right next to Bruce, so I thought, what if that was Superbat?
Bruce is an astronaut (no family on Earth becuse reasons, not even Alfred) in a mission trying out the first hyperspeed spaceships, fueled by a mysterious mineral: kryptonite, and is accidentally sucked in by a wormhole, which throws him out 26 light years away from Earth and right into Krypton's space territory. As the son of Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, of course he's a science nepo-baby on Krypton, and he gets to meet the alien directly. Of course, Kryptonians had made contact with other species, but never one so similar to them. Clark wanted to know everything.
And Bruce was confused but in reality, there wasn't much he could do. He trusted the kryptonians would get him back home, but as the story progresses, he doesn't want to go back. He's found himself in love with Kal-El and wants to stay.
He has to win Kal-El's parents' approval, of course. The only way to do that is by combat with the best warrior around (Kal-El gets the privilege of the warrior instead of just a family member because he's basically royalty on Krypton). Bruce wins not for brute force but by outsmarting his enemy.
After that they date a bit more and get married yipieeeeee
They adopt their kids. They adopt kryptonian Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Cassandra Cain, Tim Drake, Duke Thomas, and why not? They make Damian in a kryptonian matrix. Hell yeah.
They kids all would have original kryptonian names and Bruce would give them human ones too.
They can have a butler named Alf-Red
And they live happily ever after.

Overwhelming Burden - Supergirl x Male Reader
Tumblr media
Note: Fluff 🥰 and Angst 🥺
I've just read the Zero Hour 30th Anniversary comic #1 not long ago and... Honestly, it's such a good comic, biggest highlight for me is seeing Supergirl wearing a black suit with the silver S on the suit and cape, the silver belt, bracelets and black gloves (In the comic, there's instances where she's wearing black gloves or not which is a little weird but in this imagine, she'll be wearing black gloves, another image will be shown in the imagine later of her wearing black gloves) are a nice addition as well... And pants! Best suit I've seen in a while.
This is a world where Superman is dead, dead after his fight with Doomsday and where Batman never came back because he's broken, so pretty much retired and Batgirl is Gotham's Knight now while Supergirl is Metropolis's protector. Diana Prince is no where to be found so Donna Troy is the new Wonder Woman also. They what would be the New Trinity in those words.
Supergirl in this comic however is supposed to be Matrix aka Mae Kent, but DC for some reason wanted Kara Zor-El/ the original Supergirl to be mentioned in this rather than Matrix Supergirl which is a little odd but I'm not complaining. Spoiler for those but Donna named dropped Supergirl as "Kara" in the comic, so... I suppose it's Kara Zor-El, again it's a little odd, ain't complaining, I honestly don't mind.
So in other words... This imagine is inspired from this. Hope you enjoy!
Credit also goes to @bisupergirl for the pics!
Metropolis, once a city that was defended by a man who revolutionized the way Aliens were welcomed on Earth, a man that changed the world with more superheroes making their debut, along with the added threat of supervillains and those that had an agenda against him. He was a man who only found out he was in fact an Alien once he found out where he really came from.
His parents, Ma and Pa Kent, aka Martha and Jonathan, once told him he came from the stars one day, crashing down onto Earth in a small pod not far from where they lived in their farmhouse, and finding a newborn wrapped in a red cloth that would be used as his cape when he grew older to become...
Superman.
He inspired many, became Earth's Champion, defended Earth and Humanity from many threats, though he couldn't always do it alone, he eventually had allies that formed the Justice League that vowed to protect Earth from any known threat known to Humankind.
Clark Kent of the Daily Planet and from a little town called Smallville, Kal-El of Krypton, Superman, the Man of Steel, Man of Tomorrow, once an icon, a hero, a loving Husband and son to all that loved him.
He was once the fabled "Last Son of Krypton" until one day, that changed... When another pod came crashing down onto Earth, holding a young blonde haired girl, who was petrified, confused, unaware of how long it has been after being in hypersleep for many years, sent from her planet of Krypton alongside her cousin, before her pod was knocked off-course.
Kal didn't know at the time, but the arrival of this girl changed his life forever and for the better, this girl was his cousin, Kara Zor-El, who would later become Supergirl and wear the same colors and family crest, one that Clark learned more about from Kara, all about the House of El, their family, his and her parents... Some he already knew from the Fortress of Solitude that was created by the Kryptonian crystal that he put into the ice in the North Pole.
Things were going very well with Kara's introduction to Earth, adopted by the loving Danvers family, she took the name "Linda Lee Danvers" to blend in and hide her powers, though at times she wasn't great at controlling them, she was taught how to.
From going to Earth school, to meeting the one guy that she befriended, the boy named Y/N, which the two eventually began to fall for one another during high school, becoming somewhat high school sweethearts. Clark supported the fact Kara found someone she liked, someone to keep her on her toes when unexpected, she eventually introduced Clark to Y/N, letting him know of the other secret they hadn't told him yet. Their Kryptonian heritage which was a big surprise to the young boy at the time, she even took him on a flight to convince him further.
Around this time, Kara being 16 years old, she debuted as Supergirl, cousin of Superman. Embracing the whole Girl of Steel part of herself to defend her new home from enemies alike. Sporting a blue top with a red skirt and gold V-shaped belt, a short red cape with a golden S on the back as opposed to wearing the same S on her top with a red background just like her cousin, showcasing the House of El sigil proudly.
At first, the world wasn't sure how to accept Supergirl, but eventually not long after, they did with Superman's help. Kara was more happier than to be both Linda Lee Danvers and Supergirl.
But... Not everything is forever...
With some years going by and now with Kara have been Supergirl for three and a half years...
A Doomsday descended upon Earth... Many heroes answered the threat and couldn't stop it without cutting losses.
It was Superman who saved the day... But at a heavy cost...
His own life, succumbing to his wounds and the world fell silent once the news broke out.
Earth's Champion... Superman... Had been confirmed dead, giving out his life to fight Doomsday, the fight was nothing more than brutal and destructive, Metropolis was wrecked and battered by the events.
His death hit many heavily, Kara especially. There was supposed to be a surprise for Kara, before Doomsday came to be, but Y/N called the surprise off, in exchange to grieve, knowing it wouldn't be the right time to propose to the girl he has always loved.
In honor to grieve her cousin's death, Kara made the decision to change up her suit and colors, now sporting a black top, long cape and pants, with a silver V-shaped belt, bracelets and the S and shield, colored silver, even on the back of her new black cape had the S colored in silver, also supporting black gloves over her hands. The bracelets both have a diamond shaped sigil on the front, even the belt too, unlike her previous suit.
Tumblr media
No longer blue, red and gold. Just a black and silver look, the world took notice of this change, seeing a black and blonde blur zoom past on multiple occasions throughout the world, it didn't take long for people to know it was Supergirl, now having a wardrobe change since the last time she appeared on camera months ago.
Some asked why? The obvious answer was simple... Coming from her.
"To honor my cousin" she said nothing more after. She refused to take anymore questions about anything else, it was nothing but a bother to her.
She became Metropolis's new protector, Earth's New Champion and part of the new Justice League that was put into place, post Doomsday and Superman's Death within a year later.
Kara was well known to he amongst the newer Wonder Woman and the Batgirl that has taken over Batman's duties after he mysteriously "vanished" when more forces played behind the scenes in that regard.
Meanwhile, still being Supergirl, her lover, Y/N, now loving Husband, having gotten married a few months ago, remained behind as the ever-loving House Husband, in their now shared apartment building, every day and night when Kara came back from her duties as Supergirl, he'd be the one greeting her when she came back.
But as of recently... Kara's been barely getting home than usual, skipping lunch dates, dinners, her usual work before she quit and the two had a fairshare of arguments then and there about the issue, as mostly every married couple eventually argues over something.
This morning was no different, it was the same as usual, Y/N always said that her being Supergirl didn't had to always be a thing, he wanted her to be Linda Danvers for a day or two, but she kept refusing the idea, Supergirl was needed day and night, it was her duty, her vow to fill in Kal's shoes.
Y/N made the argument that Superman wasn't always needed and this only infuriated Kara further, where their argument turned a little more heated. Y/N hated arguing with her about this, this was the first ever heated argument with her and he felt bad bringing it up. Kara was still hurting about Kal's death. There was one thing he did say that was true...
He felt neglected by her now, he hadn't been hugged by her in the last few weeks... Or even kissed by that matter and he missed having her lips on his
Kara was nothing but frustrated and moody mostly in the last few months, the last time he ever saw her smile much was during their wedding day and the entire week. It was like something switched off in her that caused her to be like this.
Could it be that something has happened? Something so bad, it's keeping her awake at night and not as the forgiving girl she was before?
She wasn't a Girl-Scout, but there was times she was, and it rarely shows today.
Y/N spent all day to himself once more, still thinking back on the argument he had with Kara this morning before she left, getting groceries, doing the laundry, keeping an eye on their cat, Streaky, before he eventually began to relax for the day. Not having to do any online work since Kara quit her Human job.
He sat on the couch, his Playstation controller in hand, playing a story-driven game before he paused it to go grab a drink.
His mind was still on the argument they had this morning, his eyes caught onto the plate of food, covered by tin-foil, dinner that was made for Kara for when she would come back at the usual time but again... She hadn't come back yet.
Y/N knew not to worry much, but it became increasingly hard for him, he loved her so much, despite the arguments they've had since getting married.
But he was worried, he was worried that she was beating herself up over everything that's happened, and it showed in her face, her body language.
The pair haven't kissed or hugged in the last two weeks and he missed being held, being kissed, being flown by her, he misses the old Kara, the old Supergirl...
The old Linda Danvers he fell in love with...
Just as he poured some fresh OJ, Y/N heard a pair of boots land on the wooden flooring by the window. He briefly looked to see Supergirl, his wife, who had seemed to look like she had been tossed around and thrown into the surface of the sun yet again, nothing more than usual.
His heart swelled to see her, but it hurt knowing she was probably still mad at him. He knew he wasn't wrong, but he just wanted to patch things up, like a normal married couple would.
"You're back" he stated the obvious with a lowered tone, but a tone she could pick up with her super hearing. "I... I was beginning to worry, but... I'm glad you're okay" he gave a little smile at the corner of his lips but it soon vanished after taking a sip of his drink.
Supergirl hadn't said anything back to him, she only looked at the TV to see what he had been doing in her absence, before noticing Streaky as she shakes her long, black cape, wiping off dust particles.
'Ugh, gonna have to get that cleaned up' he mentally noted before taking another sip from his drink. "I made dinner again, it's cold now but I ca-" a whooshing sound interrupted him and he was met by Kara who had zoomed up close to him after looking him in the eyes, completely surprising him. He almost dropped his glass of fresh OJ once she zoomed up at him in a nano-second.
"K-Kara?".
There was nothing but pain and hurt in her eyes before grabbing the sides of her cape and lunged her arms around him, wrapping her cape around him also as her body began to quiver and tremble.
She dug her face into the crook of his neck and her breaths became shaky, Y/N could only stand there with a surprised look on his face as Kara... The Girl of Steel, his wife, Supergirl, had began to break down emotionally from what it sounded like.
Then he could hear her sobbing into him, little sobs of sadness washing over her as she clung onto him hardly but gently, not wanting to let go just like any other time he'd tried to hug her.
"Y/N" she mumbled with a shaky breath into his neck, her messy blonde hair tickling the side of his face. "I-I-I" she couldn't speak her words, sadness overwhelming her as tears flushed down from her closed eyes that began to soak the T-shirt's fabric on his shoulder, crying even harder by the minute.
Y/N wrapped his arms around her figure quickly, who was clinging onto him like she was holding on for dear life, he accepted the hug he longed to get from her, it broke his heart hearing her sob and cry, feeling his shoulder getting wetter by the minute from all the tears she was shedding. Her words coming out trembling and mumbling nonsense
"Oh, Kara" Y/N cooed to her, rocking a little left to right while feeling the warmth of Kara's long cape wrapped around him and her, her arms holding him into place while a hug carried out.
"I-I... I'm so s-s-sorry!" she cried harder into him, her sobbing getting more prominent as Y/N tightened his arms around her, even his breaths began to get shaky at this moment, he felt her words hitting him in the heart. "I-I".
"Sshhh, i-it's okay" he cooed to her softly.
"N-N-No! I-It's not o-okay!" she denied that fact, struggling with her words still, but Y/N understood what she meant.
Yes... It wasn't okay, he could clearly see and hear it, with a crying Supergirl in his arms, also embracing him with her cape wrapped around him to cling onto him as she cries and sobs, overwhelmed by drowning dread and grief.
He always had a feeling eventually Linda/Kara L/N would be overwhelmed with this, mostly overwhelmed with the burden of being Earth's Champion twenty-four-seven, since Superman's death, she's been nothing but mostly Supergirl the entire time, the only acception she wouldn't be her superhero self was at the wedding and the week following that with the honeymoon.
"Let it all out, it's okay, my Sunshine" he cooed further though he stumbled on his wordings, calling her by a nickname he had for her, one she hadn't heard in a while which made her sob harder. "Let it all out" he told her once again, letting the broken Girl of Steel cry on his shoulder, just like he once told her that if she needed a shoulder to cry on, she's got him.
He could remember the days when they were in high school, remember when they were fifteen years old, he'd stop by the Danvers's place to hang out with Linda and her two other friends that she made in class, he remembered getting to know them better since he had different classes from them, and only a few classes where he and Kara would be seated near each other, often not sitting next to one another.
The days where he first began to crush on Linda, he found her the most adorable and smartest girl in the world, to him? She was everything he wanted. He didn't have much friends, most were into edgy stuff, which didn't match his tastes.
But Linda? She was into anything, she was cool to him, smart, had a sense of humor, was fun to be around and was pretty defensive for him against his bullies, once publicly embarrassing one of them by flipping him over her shoulder, on the verge of breaking the bully's arm, potentially ruining his placement for the basketball game coming up that time.
Once everything had calmed down, along with Kara's sobbing, and apologies were made about all the arguments they've been having, the two pulled back from the hug and kissed, lips-to-lips for the first time in two weeks, a kiss both surely had been missing, a long kiss between them with their lips slowly smacking off each other in a slow dancing way.
His hands caressed her cheek with his thumbs swiping away at any stray tears that fell down from her eyes which they did once they began to kiss, Kara's cape still wrapped around him and herself, not even thinking of letting go any time soon.
"Y/N" Kara broke the silence after the long kiss they had, the kiss she could clearly see that Y/N had been dreading for, a kiss of closure in other words. "I... I thought about what you said this morning, and... You're right, I have been... Neglecting you as of recently" she painfully admitted, her voice croaking as she spoke.
"No, no. I was wrong to say that" Y/N backed down from what he said, taking back the hurtful thing he said this morning. "I shouldn't have said that in the first-".
"No" she interrupted. "It's the truth. All I've thought since..." a pain arose in her chest as she felt it flare up from what she was about to say, struggling to speak a little.
"I don't think you need to say" he told her, knowing what she was going to say, as it was clear as day...
She took the burden of being the next Symbol of Hope, the carry on the shoes and burden that Superman alone carried with him through his actions and heroism, Supergirl was a role model to most, if not, all people as expressed through her actions and words alone. She didn't want to be like her cousin, she wanted to be her own person.
She once admitted to him the fact she was scared she'd end up losing herself because of the fact that there could be one day he might die and she'd have to pick up where he left off being Earth's Champion, but Clark gave her sound advice. Like him...
She had family and friends to help her carry the burden if she struggled, to carry on without him if he were to die, which happened.
"I visit that statue every day" she sniffled, looking into Y/N's eyes still. "Wishing he'd be here today still, wondering what it would be like to have him around again" she closed her eyes and sighed with a sadness that could be seen in her face. "I miss him... So, so much" she croaked.
"I know, I miss him too" he laid a finger under her chin and raised her head so he could look into her eyes, tears forming her eyes once more before one fell down onto Y/N's thumb. "But you're not alone, Kara. Being Supergirl twenty-four-seven hasn't done you good, you look stressed and tired, which is concerning considering Kryptonians don't get tired from what you've shown" he made a valid point across to her, but she seemed to have heard it before.
"You sound like Babs".
"Do I know?" he chuckled. "Well... If I was Barbara, I think she'd also be correct".
This prompted to make the Girl of Steel smile just a little, which was enough for him to point out with a little smile back at her.
"There she is, there's the smile".
"Don't ruin it" she groaned.
"I'd never" he smiled, giving out a little laugh that was a little contagious for Kara, a soft laugh escaped her before it died down, with her sighing next.
Y/N pushed a strand of Kara's hair behind her ear, seeing the other half of her face that was hidden by her golden hair. "I think... You should take off the suit and Supergirl" with his eyes he traced out the House of El glyph on Kara's chest. "...could use a good break for a little bit, you can have someone else fill in for you, clear your mind a little with me" Y/N suggested to her, though he knew she wouldn't like it, now that things had been settled between them, he wouldn't lose his chances.
And Kara knew it...
"I can heat up your dinner, or you can probably use your heat vision since it's quicker than the oven" he snorted, getting a faint laugh out from Kara while she smiled, his face brightened up again noticing it. "And we can also... Cuddle on the couch, put on a movie of your choice, not my pick because you know I'm picky" he suggested further.
"Or..." Kara unwrapped her arms off him for a moment before wrapping them back around, only around the crook of his neck this time around with her cape billowing slightly behind her due to the window being open still on a cool windy night. "I can take you on a flight?".
"Ohh" Y/N caught himself between two hard choices. "Hmm... Maybe tomorrow you can take me on a flight, how about that, Sunshine?" he answered.
"Deal" she nodded before smiling a little more, finally answering after a minute. Deep down he was right from earlier when she thought about it, her being Supergirl twenty-four-seven has done her no good, it put some strain on the relationships she's got with her loved ones, her adopted family especially and Y/N, who love her all the same, she had a prior visit to them before coming back, wanting to reconcile which was as emotional as it was already.
"It's your favorite, by the way, from your adopted mother's recipe" he smiled as Kara x-rayed the plate with the tin-foil over it, spotting a Lasagna and coming from him, it was Edna Danvers recipe of her Lasagna.
"I thought I smelled something familiar" she noted while looking at the plate.
"Go on" he gestured his head toward the plate.
"You want some? There's plenty left for us to share" she offered, unwrapping her arms off him and began to walk up to the plate.
"Nah, I'm good" he declined politely.
"You sure? In case you end up eying it up anyway" she smirked, taking off the tin-foil gently though unnecessary to do it gently.
"I had like... Maybe two plates earlier, cooked a bit too much, I'm full still" he gestured. I'll wait on the couch for you, gonna turn this game off and that".
"Okay, Love" she nodded and smiled before she looked at the food, her eyes soon lit up red before she quickly heated up the food with her heat vision, heating it up to the right temperature, just for her.
Taking the plate, she saw her Husband save his progress and switch off the game, she had a little fond memory of him kicking her ass at a fighting game when they were younger, back when things were simpler when Clark was still alive.
"Y/N" Kara broke the silence yet again.
"Yes, my Sunshine?" he answered.
"I love you, I really love you, you dork. Always remember that" she smiled once again, stabbing her Lasagna with a fork that was left on the table next to the plate earlier before taking it to her mouth to savor the taste of the food.
"I love you too, Linda L/N" he smiled back at her, her face noticeably brightened as she strolled over with her plate of food in hand...

Hiii!! I love your KonBart content ♥️ Any thoughts about Bart and Kon in a Stark Trek AU?
vibrates violently. i love you.
Yes. Yes I have.
So.
I haven't seen a whole lot of Star Trek AUs for them (and I get it) but how I would approach it personally is two different ways;
One is where Kon and Bart both join Starfleet and more or less have their canon backstories (Kon is a clone, he broke out etc and Bart is from 1000 in the future). The world is more or less a hybrid of modern continuity DC comics and Star Trek during TOS era.
Kon joins in engineering - his TTK is extremely helpful. People look at his arms and think he should be in security. This annoys him greatly.
Bart is in the science division, and engineering, and communications, and navigation, and medical (once). Every time he shows up he's wearing a different uniform. This is purely a gag. There's a lot of whispers about what Bart is actually primarily focused in - everyone can just look it up of course but that just defeats the fun. Starfleet allows this because of his unique abilities and eidetic memory allowing him to perform multiple stations and fill in where needed.
The other iteration take both Bart and Kon in a more Star Trek-weird direction while being faithful to DC and I am more attached to this one as it feels more like a Star Trek AU rather than a Star Trek meets DC AU (we have those in canon actually, read them!).
In this Kon is a clone, but he's a relic of Krypton and is the Last Son instead of Kal-El. A ship found him in cryostasis and dated him as being over 200 years old. Doing DNA analysis they discovered that he was in fact half human but the other half of his DNA was a mystery entirely. The writing on his capsule was eventually deciphered, but the technology housing him is completely unknown.
There are a lot of mysteries about Kon that they slowly piece together, like his name, and about Kryptonians having made contact with 20th century Earth enough to obtain DNA samples to mix with theirs. Why he exists, what his purpose was, the soul crushing truth that Krypton no longer exists and all of its people are gone, extinct, all of these are slowly answered.
He does have his TTK in this, and one of the more hilarious things is Kon did not even know that being away from a yellow sun impacted his powers that much because he used his TTK for nearly everything. He just thought he had 'space sickness' when he was away from 'a planet' too long. The connection wasn't discovered until his TTK 'went weird' due to Romulan flu and while on a planet with a yellow sun he perked up amazingly fast and was still strong. It was a whole thing.
In this I'm leaning more towards him being in communications - because it gives him the best chances of finding out more about himself. He wants to study as much about other people as possible for anything he might be able to use to answer questions about himself.
Also, he was sent to Earth when he was found and he spent a little bit of time among the officers who found him in the first place. Commanders Jonathan and Martha Kent. They give him the name Conner and essentially adopt him, and it doesn't take him long to join Starfleet Academy himself.
Bart in this true to weird-Trek lore was a space anomaly. He appeared one day on Kon's ship and people thought they were at first just seeing things. Then they thought the damned holodeck was acting up. Because people would see him very often in holodeck programs over anything else. It's how Kon and him first met - but Kon of course thought he was an NPC that was just malfunctioning. It happens! But then he started appearing in other places of the ship as a bright yellow glowing sprite.
Bart has very little memories of who he was or what he's supposed to be doing, but he has a feeling he should be 'in the real world' but everything just is going either too fast, or too slow and he just... can't... stabilize.
Eventually, Kon is able to use his TTK to 'trap him' because he is the only one FAST enough to do this. Through shenanigans involving the transporter, science and Kon they are able to stabilize him and he is no longer in that strange speedforce entity state.
Bart sort of wavers in this between being physical and a speedforce being - is much less human and more fey. In fact, even when he does give them physical samples to analyze it is unlike anything they have ever seen and nothing in the known galaxy comes close to him.
Q doesn't fuck with him.
I just think it would be funny if he showed up, saw him, and turned around while saying "Nope!"
It's one of those mysteries that frustrate Starfleet High Command.
Because Bart is in this awkward state they had a plan to take him to earth for study and asylum, and even Vulcan was interested as well, but Bart despite wanting answers about himself and what he was supposed to do wanted to stay aboard the ship because of Kon.
Captain Cassandra "Cassie" Sandsmark fights for his case and Starfleet higher command approves it - she has a way of getting what she wants.
Kon and Bart bond because Kon knows what it is like to be confused about the world and who he is, so he acts as an anchor for him and reminds him that 'it doesn't matter who you were, it's who you are now and who you want to be that's important' .... He says it for Bart but he also says it a lot for him too.
I might write a little more on this odd AU but I have like 30 other projects.

Superman Flyby
I've read a lot of scrapped drafts of movies but I can't say that I've liked a lot of them, Resident Evil, Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales- So when I saw a video performing one as an audio drama, I figured I'd try it out that way.
This one has narration? I didn't like that, it's not in the script, it's just adapted that way to explain what's going on so I quit that and just moved over to the script, so much for that idea. This is only the second draft which for some reason in Hollywood, there needs to be draft after draft (that's not how I write, I just edit but whatever) so I don't know how 'finished' or how planned this was to go to screen, they had a cool costume for it already though (but they also had one for Superman Lives and that had script after script)
Firstly, Lex finds a crashed shuttle of one of the Kryptonian war people (not Zod or anyone else we know but one of Kata-Zor's men, Jor-El's brother). And the guy puts him in a chokehold, passing on his memories and understanding before dying, basically passing on his task to Luthor, to find Kal-El.
Then JJ, uh- has the Kent's landlord make advances toward Martha and then young Clark has to fight him off? After that we cut back to Krypton...yes, Krypton. In this draft, it's not the explosion that's making them send him away, it's the invasion/war and Lara is on the run. I didn't mention that Kata-Zor has a son...Ty-Zor and he's about Clark's age. With the minion dying earlier, he never made contact and told them where Kal-El was so they're still looking.
I'm gonna take a break and give you what I think should happen from here forth, it's not what I expect but it's constructive criticism since it's so...divisive. Instead of making it a Zod or Zor-El, at the end, I want to see them injured and replace parts to become Brainiac, a fake-out and potential overall villain that embodies all of Superman's greatest foes. It's just stupid enough to work! But I think Clark's overall mission should be to find an actual resolve on Earth to save Krypton or become strong enough with the yellow sun to take down the Zors.
Ok, back to the actual script. Clark has a roommate named Jerry Shuster which I don't even need to explain that reference. Yeah, Lana was there earlier and Clark introduced himself but that's it, he's older, never to be seen again. Lois is introduced as the freshman in his college...Clark's a senior *gulp*. Other than that, I kind of like the disposition, though different, seeing Lois firstly in this sort of awkward situation rather than the way we're used to, none of the dialogue has stood out to me though, they mention that she's just as much alien as he is but that's literally her second paragraph, SHOW ME.
Clark, has a moment where someone's making advances towards Lois and he stands up but the guy keeps pushing him. With his mom, he pushed him back but with Lois, Lois pushes him back defending Clark, I don't like the situation but like I said, I like the disposition. Aaaannnnddd we're right back at the Planet where Lois is her usual self. Why did Clark end up there though? Because he thought he'd meet Lois there again after she said that's what she wanted to do.
Luthor's running for Prez. In a way, being in a position of power or even with Law Enforcement, it'd make it easier to find Kal-El. But he shows off...Luthanium, a battery chip, made of what, hmmmm, NOPE. But Lois makes a scene and now Luthor puts a hit on her. What's strange though is that JJ has this obsession with Clark's fly being down, thinking it's funny, maybe in the movie it would've been but here, it's ironic because it's called FLYby, I wonder if that's where the title came from.
Anyways, I skimmed the rest, it wasn't holding my attention. Superman dies but Jor-El brings him back saying he's apart of the prophecy about two princes? too many things going on. There are some highlights like Lois riding a motorcycle after knocking out Lex and Superman fighting a robot but it's all context issues, those are basic ideas but the way they're presented is eh.
They did end up going with one idea I had about saving Krypton. They give him these 5 pieces which create a portal to his world but that's the literal end of the script, just as he jumps in.
And the casting they were getting...oh boy. Scarlett Johansson or Selma Blair as Lois? Ok. RDJ as Lex? Can't see it. Brendan Fraser, Henry Cavill, Josh Hartnett? Mmn. Shia LaBeouf as Jimmy...actually-that kind of makes sense for the time period.
'If you don't know what story you want then why are you telling it?' Is my mindset but then-
“The thing that I tried to emphasize in the story was that if the Kents found this boy, Kal-El, who had the power that he did, he would have most likely killed them both in short order. And the idea that these parents would see – if they were lucky to survive long enough – that they had to immediately begin teaching this kid to limit himself and to not be so fast, not be so strong, not be so powerful. The result of that, psychologically, would be fear of oneself, self-doubt and being ashamed of what you were capable of. Extrapolating that to adulthood became a fascinating psychological profile of someone who was not pretending to be Clark Kent, but who was Clark Kent. Who had become that kind of a character who is not able or willing to accept who he was and what his destiny was.
“The idea in the movie was that he became Superman because he realized he had to finally own his strength and what he’d always been."
He has an abstract version of it thought out so how did he draw his conclusion? Do I look like a mind reader sir, I don't know
Tumblr media
At least we don't have to worry about it-
Tumblr media
Wow. I mean, I guess he learned and has someone writing it for him now, he wanted to direct Flyby but they were more keen on him writing it. Ta-Nehisi Coates actually worked on Black Panther comics so that's cool? But at the same time, this has been in development from what I understand as a long time, at least I remember hearing about a black Clark Kent pretty far back, like it doesn't seem like it was just 2021, I remember it being rumored before then but maybe I'm wrong? And yeah, this is apparently a black Clark, not Calvin which upset everybody but as with Tron, people don't listen to feedback unless it's Sonic.
But it's still worrying that the direction is going anywhere because of when I read that James Gunn hasn't even been handed a script yet, I was kind of paused. Is it even done? Like- it just seems like someone who says they have a really cool project but refuse to show it (oh poop, is that me? (but in my case, I actually have a lot finished, it just needs made (someone help)))

Okay, so we see ONE section of plot-relevant dialogue and you just assume that they said nothing else? Also, ignoring nuance, because there is obvious fear and desperation from her mother in this scene. Doesn't look like they really want to do this, but they have to.
And what, you think if Kal-El never existed, they wouldn't send their daughter away from an exploding planet despite having the ship to send her in? Is that really what you think? The last heir to the House of El is just going to be allowed to die because there's no male to look after? Wow... okay...
Survivor's guilt is a powerful thing, and Kara is feeling all this from the perspective of 12-year-old who had a child's understanding of the situation. She's just repeating what she thought her responsibility was without taking into account what the purpose was behind that. Alex was right, and you're just being judgmental.
Okay, that entire quote was, again, Kara speaking from the understanding she had of the conversation that took place when she was a child. Her mother never said it was the ONLY reason she was being sent. The word 'only' never appeared in the dialogue. In fact, one can argue that with how it was phrased, this was Kara being asked to protect her much younger and more vulnerable cousin (he was ONE YEAR OLD, just as a reminder). Jumping to conclusions isn't an Olympic sport.
Yeah, the show sucked at giving Kara a real throughline, and also, her dad didn't say anything in the original scene, as you pointed out. Not onscreen, at least, because they only gave us plot-relevant dialogue. But notice how her dad said absolutely nothing about the mission she supposedly failed to accomplish, and neither did her mother. None of their dialogue had anything to do with her 'mission' at all if you paid any attention. They were just glad she was alive.
Funny how, once again, it's Kara's perception of her parents' wishes and not anything they actually said that trips her up. How interesting.
Again, the word 'only' wasn't in the plot-relevant dialogue. At no point was that what they said.
You still didn't answer the question. How could both kids be sent to Earth and Kara not at least feel responsible for her baby cousin? If they're both meant to survive, it makes sense that she would be put in charge as the older of the two.
Oh, thank you for those examples, neither of which actually mention that Kal-El was going with her. In the comic example, it actually looks like the familys are doing this independent of each other. In the screencaps, her mother still tells her to find her cousin, so she's still being made responsible for him. Not really shoring up your argument, hon.
Yeah, funny how families sometimes try to make decisions in tandem, and try to make one that's going to do the most good. Funny how they should care about both their daughter and their nephew. Seriously, did you try think about this from their POV at all, or did you just jump to 'horrible parents'?
Alura was on a chunk of her home planet with limited resources, hence their asking for help from Lena for the Huran-El. And how was she supposed to locate Kara on a planet of 14 billion people? I mean, Earth is a thriving planet full of other beings who are at least physically identical to Kryptonians in looks, having the same outward physiology, so it's not like all she'd have to do is look for the woman with the extra head. Not helped by the fact that she last saw her daughter when she was 12 and has no idea what she looks like as an adult.
Alura wouldn't have seen anything because they were still in the hanger at the time the pod got knocked off course, so I don't know where this part came from.
Ah, here we are. I mean, yeah, this has been used as a story beat, but that's not what actually happened. Besides, another good story beat is a character who has to find a new purpose after the one she thought she had was ripped away by fate, which was the one the show actually gave her.
If you want to show me where her parents were so disappointed she didn't wither and die because she didn't fulfill their original plans for her, go ahead. Show me that dialogue.
honestly, it's really crazy how kara's parents (in the show) saved her only so she can watch over kal. "you'll journey to earth to look after your baby cousin, kal-el.", "my father sent me to earth to take care of my baby cousin who went before me..." don't you just want your daughter safe? don't you just want her to live? is her life not worth that much to you? her happiness? why must she be spared only to look after some boy? why must you drill into the head of this young girl her life's worth it only if she's giving it away for others? are you not ashamed? ... fucking assholes!

Kara: The ‘Alien Conspiracy Theorist’
One of the best ways Kara has kept her secret identity for so long definitely isn’t because shes actually good at keeping secrets. Nor is it because the ‘ponytail-and-glasses’ combo actually do a good job of hiding her. Far from it. Kara couldn’t lie convincingly to save her life. It’s more so that she’s so flagrantly obvious with her identity and knowledge of aliens that no one ever believes her. Sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight, right?
A newsreal about Superman played on the screen in the breakroom when a coworker asked, “Do you think aliens are really real? I mean Superman claims to be one, but can we really prove that? You never know what the military is experimenting with these days…”
Of course, they were probably expecting the traditional ‘well the universe is massive, so statistically there’s bound to be intelligent life somewhere else out there.’
What they got instead was Kara. Not even looking up from where she was mixing an absurd amount of sugar and creamer into her coffee by the sink, she said, “Oh, yeah. Of course, they are. You know, I’ve been abducted by aliens about 6 times, at this point. No wait… 7.”
The instant silence that filled the breakroom had her turning to see the absolutely stunned faces of a handful of her coworkers. “You’ve been … what?”
And, oh… maybe she shouldn’t have said that… but it was out there, now. She had to commit at this point. “Abducted by aliens, yep! My sister and I actually take a trip to Roswell at least once every couple of years. ” Many of them had seen the photo of her and Alex in front of the UFO dinner on the outskirts of Roswell that sat on her desk as proof of it.
“Wait. Did they… you know?”
“Wha….? OH! No, no! Of course not! They’re usually quite nice! Some of them still keep in touch, you know? The first time, I was just a teenager. I was visiting my cousin’s family farm in Kansas, and one of the cows got out in the middle of the night. Had to go find her. I got interrupted by a group of Shmolbexeens, from what I could tell? They’re this lovely shade of blue with purples specks. A very sweet group honestly, if a little nosy,” Kara finished with a smile. They really were quite friendly—just a group of xenobiologist grad students from another galaxy writing a research paper on humans.
“Soooooooo, you got abducted. In Kansas. While looking for a cow?”
“Yep! They actually pointed me in the direction of old Miss Belle,” and with that Kara sipped her coffee and headed back to her desk, leaving a set of stunned and silent coworkers behind her. Cat would surely be shouting for her any second, and it was best not to keep her waiting.
And really, that was only the start of it. Kara always seemed to have some story or alien fact. She’d basically outed herself, so why not share her unique pool of knowledge? Except what she didn’t know is that it wasn’t exactly an outing as an alien, but more as a very human, very ‘imaginative’ alien conspiracy theorist.
(‘A nutjob’ Blake from accounting would call her, only to get elbowed by Katrina in legal. ‘She’s sweet! Just a little... eccentric’)
So when Supergirl came into National City’s spotlight, why would anyone suspect sweet, alien-lover Kara Danvers—who just so happened to talk about Supergirl a lot and suddenly seemed to be the only person in media with a direct line of contact with the alien superhero—of being her when it was far more likely that she was dating her, instead.
Hidden in plain sight, indeed.
#HC Advent Adventure#Day 12#Supergirl#Kara Danvers#danvers sisters#young kara wandering the woods banging pots and pans together yelling for those alien fuckers to beam her up#this was an old idea from 2018 that I found the old text messages about this morning#there's even art from btc about it#this idea is funny and cute#but also like just think about it#Kara has been flung on to earth and while she is in fact trying to build a new home for herself here#she misses her old home she's bound to try to cling to any piece of home she can find#in the early years she tried to spend time with Kal when she could#but there wasn't much and Kal for all that he was Kryptonian was also so unbelievably human#and it hurt to not have a single piece of the wider universe to cling to#until she was visiting the Kent farm and did indeed get abducted by aliens#glowing light in the middle of a deserted field and everything#they're like you're the strangest human we've ever seen and kara's just all I'm?? Not??? Human????#and suddenly she has an instant connection with these other lifeforms even if it's only briefly#it's something she clings to#desparately#even drags alex along for the ride (which she is totally down for lbr)#Kara's been casually abducted by accident so many times because she's so invincible#that she's not afraid to do all the weird shit that will occasionally get people abducted#so when humans first really start finding out about aliens kara's always just like oh ya I believe. i've seen them.#and everyone else is just like ????WHAT?????#who would think kara is an alien when she's out here getting abducted by them?#On a cuter note#Kara keeps a scrapbook of all the alien friends she meets#and def has a selfie with a bunch of alien buds in matching tie dye tees

You've talked about what Clark would get from his Kryptonian parents in the previous posts, now I'm kind of curious what you think Kara would he get from her Kryptonian parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze? Since, unlike Clark, she was raised by them until she was a pre-teen to early teen rather than a baby when she was sent to Earth, and Zor and Alura held different professions and personalities from Jor and Lara. Could you also loop in her aunt Astra In-Ze just to address all of her immediate fam?
Much harder for me to do. Reason being is that there's a general consensus on the role of what Kal's two sets of parents have in his life. Writers are less sure on what to do with Zor and Alura however.
Tumblr media
Chalk that up to Zor typically being just Jor-El Jr. Like his brother he's a scientist, although not as smart or as important, and that's pretty much the extent of what we know about him. Honestly I preferred New Krypton making him an artist, was a good way to differentiate him from Jor, but that was so long ago and he's otherwise been a scientist everywhere else, making it unlikely we'll ever see a return to that idea. Alura actually got more focus than her husband did in my first exposure to her during the New Krypton era, and that had her as the "reasonable if still prejudiced politician" to play off of Zod. After the New 52 erased that story however we're back to not really knowing anything about her.
Going off of the recent Tom King Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow mini I think I can give a rough answer on what Zor gives Kara. In issue 6 we get to see some Zor and Kara interactions, with Zor being stoic about the sequence of horrors they've endured. Man has seen his homeworld blow up, kryptonite poisoning take his wife and fellow survivors, and by the end he has decided to imitate his brother and send his only child out into the unknown alone. What are his last words to his little girl before she departs and he dies from kryptonite poisoning? "Remember what your mother said. Be good." Clearly this is not a guy who is prone to emotional outpourings even in the most dire circumstances. Kara has frequently been shown as struggling to control her emotions, or rather to repress them. Usually that only makes things worse, and I think you can interpret Kara's emotional turbulence as her failure to imitate her father's ability to never let his emotional state affect him. Yet there's something both Kara and her father share as shown by King: an inability to give up. Zor kept trying to find solutions even when the situation grew worse and worse, ultimately settling for saving his daughter when he couldn't save everyone else. Kara went on hammering lead plates down in a vain attempt to keep everyone from dying due to the radiation, continuing hammering alone even after everyone else quit. That stubborn attitude of refusing to give up, to lie and down die is where Kara and Zor are the same. Alongside the intelligence, Zor's gift to Kara is willpower.
Unfortunately Alura doesn't get the same focus from King, she dies and other than telling Kara to be good, doesn't participate in the plot at all. Only New Krypton's take on Alura really offers much in the way of deeper characterization beyond "she was a good mom who loved Kara". New Krypton had Alura as a leader, and that is what her gift to Kara should be in addition to the physical appearance similarities between the two (much like Kal getting the S-curl from Lara I prefer Kara and Alura being blondes). While I wouldn't bring New Krypton wholly back into canon - the current status quo doesn't allow it and I wasn't happy with how that story ended - I would make Alura's background be in politics in canon. Know I've brought this up repeatedly but I'll say it again: I love the idea of Kara running a lunar colony that Future State came up with. Making that Kara's status quo would make it much easier to draw comparisons between Alura and Kara, because both would be leaders. Alura during New Krypton was attempting to build a new society and Kara would be doing the same. You could say that Kara has inherited her mother's charisma and ability to persuade others to adopt her viewpoint. Much as Lara being a soldier makes for a nice contrast with Jor being a scientist, Alura being a politician makes for a good contrast with Zor. Have it so Alura was involved in the politics of Krypton and that will give her something to do beyond just being Zor's wife and Kara's mom.
Tumblr media
Zor and Alura to Kara are what the Kents should be to Clark: parents whose deaths force their child to journey into adulthood alone, with only the memories Kara has and lessons they taught to guide her in life post-Krypton. Above everything else Kara lost when Krypton died, it's the loss of them that affects Kara the most, and the pain of losing them lingers on throughout Kara's life.

"Inverse"- Secret Santa
For @agentjadelance. Merry Christmas! And happy Karamel gift season :)
– Lynn @lostmyurl
An AU featuring rivals to friends- as promised. You’d better believe they’re lovers at some point later, too, though it’s not pictured.
Bear in mind that in this story, Kara has spent the first 24 years of her life raised by Kryptonians. The prejudices are evident and intentional, and heavier-ingrained than canon- but every character has flaws, as long as they work on them. This is definitely a Karamel-positive AU.
Mike Danvers thought he’d had his life figured out. The past year had been hectic, but between coming to terms with the fact that he just wasn’t human, actually getting a job as a mixologist, and starting work alongside the DEO as a superhero named Valor, things had been beginning to smooth themselves out.
He’d found a routine. Evening shifts at work, daytime spent between making excuses to Megan why he couldn’t work a day shift, trying to avoid getting yelled at by J'onn, and generally saving people’s lives when he could find the time
Hell, he’d managed to hit it off with the big man himself- Superman, Kryptonian as he was, had eventually warmed up to his best intentions. Prejudices were only prejudices as far as one let them be, after all; Kal-El had left home as an infant. Mon-El had been a child when he’d arrived
And a doubtful this isn’t Daxam, just stay out of trouble on this planet and try to fit in had only worked for so long.
But he had a routine. A life. He thought he was happy.
And now, the contents of a Kryptonian pod threatened to knock that delicately-built balance apart.
Taken from Krypton not long before the first signs of Krypton’s death, Kara Zor-El had reached maturity trapped in the bottled city of Kandor.
Which had been lost. But she survived, a last remnant of a world that had clung onto life and dug its nails in for all it could. Having lost more than most could imagine.
But Rao damn, she could be infuriating.
She had been on Earth for a total of under a week. Most of it had been spent recovering from induced suspended animation, a reunion with Superman- apparently a cousin she’d never had the chance to meet, and undermining every word Mike said or did. Because on Krypton, this, and on Krypton, that.
Apparently, if he tried to contribute how anything had been done on Daxam, it would’ve been shot down- either by Alex or by Eliza, most often. He’d learned not to. And yet, a friendly warning that this was not how things were done on Earth went entirely unappreciated. Everyone wanted to hear what a paragon of virtue Krypton was.
On Krypton, he’d heard her say- to her cousin, in private, but not trying too hard to avoid his earshot- you knew you shouldn’t trust a Daxamite with work that needed doing.
Though what stung more was the hushed response: this one is all right.
He hadn’t told Alex about that. She got bristly and protective enough as it was.
His planet wasn't evil. Different, certainly, but in his ten years there, he didn’t remember it being populated with… whatever kept being thrown at him.
His parents hadn’t been the kindest of people, but surely, they couldn’t have been evil.
Perhaps she thought he didn’t notice that she subtly avoided listening to a word he said- unless they were arguing. It was blatant then
She was grieving. She had to be. He could see how sad she looked, from time to time when she thought she was alone. He could also see how much she resented deferring to him for physical sparring- she was stronger than him, true, but there were enemies stronger than her.
-
The end of a day. A long day. She’d saved his life from an unfortunate bullet. He’d saved hers from a kryptonite knife wielded by her deranged aunt. They’d fought. Planets had come into play- after subtle hints for so long, it almost felt like a relief to put it out in the open. He’d walked out to avoid saying more.
“Mike.”
He pretended not to hear at first. It was closing time.
“What’s a good Kryptonian girl scout doing awake at this time of night?”
That might have been uncalled-for, but he wasn’t sure that, at that moment, he cared.
“I came to say I’m sorry.”
Oh.
“I’ve been… unfair.  Instead of thanking you for saving my life, I got worked up after seeing my aunt Astra… doesn’t matter. That’s not an excuse. I’m sorry.”
It was met with a shrug. He couldn’t meet her eye, instead preferring to focus on the glass he was drying off.
“I’ve misjudged you. And I’m sorry. I’ve been… pretty awful to you since I came to earth.”
“True.” Despite the affirmation… she genuinely seemed apologetic. Encountering somebody from Krypton like that, having her world shaken in its foundations, it couldn’t have been easy. Neither, he imagined, had been adjusting to life here.
He sighed, extending a hand. A friendly gesture- at least those, he hoped, were constant between Earth and Krypton.
“I’m sorry, too. About your aunt, and… your city, too. Coming to Earth for me was…” He trailed off with a chuckle, trying to brush off his own misadventures.
“It was a learning curve. But you’ll adjust to it. Maybe a little sparring on the side wouldn’t hurt, either.”
A smile. Mike wasn’t even sure why he was mirroring it, but there he was, sharing a smile with Kara Zor-El of Krypton. She looked away first, and he set the glass down, sliding it her way.
“What was it you ordered last time? A club soda? Bar’s closed, but I think I can make an exception if you don’t tell my boss.”

On General Zod
If you ever need proof of the impact of adaptions on the source material, this guy has gotta be one of the best choices.
Tumblr media
It's wild to think about how Zod is Superman's #2 Rogue in the eyes of the general public, something that is entirely owed to Superman II and Terence Stamp hamming it up. Zod is a character who before that movie wasn't even close to being in the top 5 Superman Rogues, he was just one of a dozen Phantom Zone prisoners that were used, all pretty interchangeable. After that movie? He became an iconic Superman foe, so iconic that movie appearance sustained his popularity even though he wasn't used in the comics (in his "proper" form anyway) until Geoff Johns and Donner himself wrote him in, and wasn't in the DCAU which became the iconic form of DC for the generation that grew up watching it.
That's insane! A Superman character who was only used in films, rarely used in a recognizable way in comics until relatively recently, was never used in animation until JL Action finally brought him in, yet remained enduringly popular. And once again it's his usage in the films that have allowed him a resurgence, with Man of Steel pretty much guaranteeing he's going to live on in infamy forever.
So who is Zod and what makes him popular? Well the answer is kind of complicated, because there's been "two" figurative Zods since Johns brought the iconic Zod into the comics. For shorthand purposes I'll call them the Terence Stamp Zod and the Michael Shannon Zod, since those two are probably the most well known incarnations of the two figurative Zods. While Shannon isn't the origin of his "type" of Zod, his performance is the one that brought that deeper characterization to life on the big screen, and he's probably the widest known example of it.
Tumblr media
The Stamp Zod is the "iconic" Zod. He's the Zod who is always referring to himself in the third person (a delightful trait in a villain), who wants nothing more than to make Kal-El KNEEL BEFORE ZOD! He's hammy and entertaining, but not deep. He's "evil Superman" at it's most basic: a guy with Superman's powers but none of his morals or empathy. He wants to rule but doesn't really have a plan beyond sitting in a big chair, barking commands, and demanding worship. He's a cartoonish space fascist, with nothing deeper to him.
This is the Zod of Dan Jurgens' Action Rebirth, who constantly screams "KNEEL" every five seconds until you get sick of reading it. I really enjoyed this guy in Superman II, but I think his appeal lies entirely in Stamp's performance being entertaining as hell. Part of why Zod hasn't had the same success in the comics as in the movies, is because (in my opinion), that kind of characterization is fun to see on the screen but not so much to read on the page. After a while it just gets boring, the charm wears thin, and you're left with a character who should be a huge threat, but isn't compelling enough to keep readers invested in what he's going to do next because he's so one-note.
Which is why Xa-Du is so great, he can be that kind of hammy evil Kryptonian and it's entertaining! He's so over the top in design and characterization, lacking Zod's inbuilt sympathetic elements, that he allows writers who want to write that type of ham to still do so, freeing up Zod to take his natural role as the deeper more tragic villain.
Tumblr media
The other incarnation is the Shannon Zod. This Zod is a much deeper character than the Stamp incarnation. This guy is driven by his need to save Krypton first, and then his desire to build a new Krypton after the planet dies. He's an "evil Superman" in ways that go deeper than just the powers: he's Kal-El's desire to save and protect gone sour until all that's left is a tyrant who feels he must exert absolute control in order to prevent catastrophe. This Zod is angry at Kal, bearing a grudge against him for Jor-El's actions, but also has mixed feelings as well, recognizing that Kal is one of the few Kryptonians left, and for that reason doesn't want to kill him. He'd rather Kal recognize how foolish Jor was for opposing Zod, and join him instead.
Tumblr media
This is the Zod of New Krypton, of Bendis' Superman run, of Venditti's Hal 'n Pals Rebirth run, of Williamson's Batman/Superman. This is the Zod I actually like and enjoy reading. You can sympathize with his rage because he's the one who believed Jor-El's warnings, and tried to act on them, only to end up imprisoned in the Phantom Zone by the very man he believed and was once a close friend to! It's understandable that he tries to rebuild what he lost, that the failure to save his planet eats away at him until all he has left is the rage. It's not hard to see why that's an appealing character Hell the most popular alternate "evil Superman" in the Injustice games is literally just Zod, he even gets imprisoned in the Phantom Zone by his former best friend (Batman) at the end of Injustice 2.
It's frustrating that given the popularity of "evil Superman", no one has really sat down and tried to write a big Zod story since Johns. I liked how Bendis moved Zod into a more grey area with regards to the Els, that he's off building a new Krypton that he intends to join the United Planets. I would love to see a series about that in the vein of Cullen Bunn's Sinestro or Magneto runs. Just Zod ripping peoples hearts out and working to restore the Kandorians to life so that he rebuild the Kryptonian people. Basically a second try at the New Krypton storyline that hopefully doesn't end on a sour note.
Tumblr media
What I Would Do With Zod
I really think Zod works best when he's the "sympathetic" bad guy, akin to Ra's (one reason I loved them being paired up in Batman/Superman). You want to root for him but he's so violent and extreme that you can't do so unconditionally. Jurgens may not be to my taste but I loved him positioning Zod as a dark counterpart to Clark in terms of being a family man. I love the idea of a "Zod Family", the little tidbits we get where Zod tries to teach Lor about politics and history in Hal 'n Pals and Batman/Superman were great! I want him as a loving husband to Ursa, a good dad to Lor, a genuine protector of Kryptonians who would walk through hell just to rescue a single one, and a terrifying monster to everyone else.
Tumblr media
I think a good way to bring Zod and Kal back into conflict organically is that Zod is going to want the other half of the Kandorian population back that Kal has if he finds a cure for their stasis, and he's also going to want the Els to join him on New Krypton. He sees himself as the protector of all Kryptonians, whether they want him to be or not, and he wants the survivors of one of the most prestigious Houses to return and join his new society. Yes it's a repeat of New Krypton to a degree but hey, second chances would be a theme of the story so it's poetic!
Really hope that PKJ takes a stab at worldbuilding with Zod's New Krytpon given the cosmic direction he's taking Clark (frankly I'm hoping PKJ tackles Brainiac and Zod next after Mongul, both desperately need some good worldbuilding which he enjoys doing). After Warworld and Mongul I would absolutely love to see Clark and his Authority maybe butt heads or even cooperate with Zod over the Aethyr plotline PKJ is building up.
Another natural way to bring Zod into Action would be the Phaolosians. I've really enjoyed the Kryptonian lore he's been drip-feeding us so far in Action, feels like a natural fit for him to bring Zod into things with regards to the Phaolosians since they're Kryptonian offshoots. I could see Zod wanting to claim and incorporate them into his New Krypton, and that causing conflict with Kal.
Hopefully Zod will get that big story in comics that finally cracks his potential, fingers crossed. I want him to be great, and he's got a lot going for him: cool design, cool backstory, lots of appearances in media such as films, TV shows, video games, etc. Feels odd that he's languished so long on the comics side.
