Being this close to her mother, Eloise was struck by their physical similarities. As a young girl, it had been impossible to see, but now that she was a young woman they were striking. She felt as if she were looking in a mirror, but a twisted mirror: everything that was warm about her appearance was turned cold in her mother: hazel eyes to a frigid silver, unruly brown hair to straight black; her mother’s skin was somehow even more pale than Eloise’s, as if she were cut from marble. Everything soft about Eloise was made sharp in her mother, and Eloise wondered what had made her this way. She was terrified that in twenty years’ time, the two of them would be indistinguishable.
Had Elladora Black always been like this? Eloise couldn’t imagine any time when her mother might have smiled, or even huffed in quiet laughter. No moments where she had been caught staring at her husband with love and warmth in her eyes. Eloise had only ever known her as an ambitious, cold woman who was always striving towards some goal, even if it was known only to her.
Someone couldn’t spend their whole life like that, could they? Even growing up at the manor, Eloise had always had Leo to confide in and love unconditionally. Had her mother ever had something - or someone - like that?
“Soon, we will be the family we were always meant to be,” Eloise’s mother said, causing Eloise to startle out of her thoughts and stare her mother in the eyes. They were filled with longing. They were mesmerizing. Eloise shivered under the intensity, but couldn’t tear her eyes away. “Soon, we will be back on our way to being the most prominent pureblood family in Britain, with the help of you and your brother. You can’t fail us. You can’t.”

Magic and Genetics: Magical Beings
So, I mentioned in my other post about magic and genetics that the fact magical creatures and wizards can reproduce is significant. This is because generally, hybrids with parents of different species are sterile (at least with animals, plants are different). As Fleur can be a quarter-veela, it's clear the hybrids we see in the magical world are not sterile.
As sterility is attributed to the difference in the number of chromosomes between the two species, this suggests that goblins, wizards, muggles, veela, and giants all have the same number of chromosomes and are part of the same genus. And this has some interesting implications when it comes to world-building...
Disclaimer: As with my past post on the subject, this is from online reading, I haven't studied any of this in a professional capacity.
When it comes to interspecies hybrids among animals, they tend to be from the same genus, otherwise they can't even reproduce without some human interference. So, I feel pretty safe in the assumption that if wizards and veela can have fertile offspring, they fall under the same genus
A genus is a biological classification above species and below family. While there is some leeway in what falls under the same genus the general gist of what defines a genus is:
They all descend from the same group of organisms.
A genus shouldn't be expanded needlessly.
All species in a genus should show distinctive traits and similarities.
Now, the legal definitions in the Wizarding World somewhat support this. All the following creatures are defined as "beings" by the Ministry of Magic:
Humans (muggles, wizards and squibs)
Giants
Goblins (and the related Pukwudgies)
Vampires
Hags
House-elves
Veela
Any hybrid of the aforementioned species.
(Werewolves are technically human, Lycanthropy is treated in the books like an illness and not a separate species, hence why I didn't list them here)
I should note Merpeople and Centaurs were also offered the description of "being", but refused.
And we see practically all of the species listed as "beings" can have fertile offsprings with each other: Hagrid is a half-giant, Fleur is a quarter-veela, Flitwick is a half-goblin, the mobile games, and Pottermore reference part-vampires, and the Fantastic Beasts movies include a half-elf (I don't really consider these movies canon as a whole, but the existence of half-elves makes sense).
This means that the definition of "being" is for all species in this humanoid genus. The reason I'm bringing this up with association with genetics is that, if we go back to the definition of genus, all these species (and potentially centaurs and merpeople too) are descended from the same ancient race. Which, in turn, says something interesting about the evolution of magic in genetics.
Since most of these races are magical, well, all of them except muggles are. Muggles are incredibly similar to wizards and squibs, more similar than the other species are to each other. This suggests that the evolution in the Harry Potter universe started with an ancient humanoid magical species that got split into the different magical species we know of (goblins, wizards, giants, elves, etc...) first since there are more differences between them. Then, some thousands of years later muggles and wizards split.
I don't know how or why or what this ancient humanoid magical race could be, but the fact muggles and wizards are probably both descendants from some proto-wizard race that existed thousands of years ago gives another possibility into how muggleborns can be born. If all muggles descended from wizards, it could explain how muggleborns would occasionally be born. I still believe almost all muggleborns are descendants of more recent squib lines though. I don't think regular muggles have a high chance of giving birth to a muggleborn, but because of this evolution theory, it still could happen.
The other interesting note about this is that muggles are likely to be able to have children with goblins, veela, vampires, and giants just like wizards can. But these half-breeds, unlike the ones we see in the books aren't partial wizards, so could they cast magic like wizards?
I'd say yes.
The fact all non-human creatures are legally forbidden from holding wands means they all can produce magic with a wand. Winkey the elf got blamed at the beginning of GoF for casting the Dark Mark with a wand, which means that even though house-elves and goblins are capable of their own magic, they could use the same spells wizards do with wands if they had them. Goblins can use wands as well, Griphock says wands would expand their magical powers. If I had to guess I'd say the same is true for vampires, veela, and hags — that if they had wands they could cast magic like wizards. Their being from the same genus kinda explains it, they all have the genes for casting magic, and yes, their magic is different, but not that different. I'd say their magic is probably more similar than wizards are willing to confess.
Giants are different in that they don't really have an innate magic, and aren't shown to be capable of any magic beyond their sturdy skin. I'd say giants had a similar evolution to muggles in that they lost the capacity to cast magic at some point in the split. I'd guess it happened differently with each species though.
Back to the earlier subject of a muggle and goblin child, for example. I believe this half-goblin would have magic similar to a half-goblin wizard like Flitwick, potentially, a half-goblin half-muggle would be registered as a wizard by the book and quill that accepts students into Hogwarts. Potentially you could have a muggle-being hybrid who is treated like a half-blood wizard even though neither of their parents are wizards. I mean, goblins can use wands, and so can half-blood wizards with one wizard parent and one muggle parent... Basically, I think there could genetically be a half-blood wizard that has no wizard parent, or even grandparent for that matter.
(All this is potentially true for merpeople and centaurs too since they were offered the "being" status)
I just find these implications about the relations between wizards, muggles, and the other magical races really interesting.

House of Gaunt pt.2
This is basically just some lore dumping about Ominis family in my lore. I have so much its kinda ridiculous at this point but I feel the massive need to share it so here we go. This is just barely a fraction of it but it'd take me forever to explain it all.
Also just a disclaimer that my version of the Gaunts is decently different then the one you read about in the Harry Potter universe. the HL universe itself doesn't exactly align 100% with what is canon in the HP universe anyway so who cares LOL. Tw: We all already know the Gaunts are violence af but either way, mentions of violence, cruelty, suicide, etc... Nothing graphic at all however I just felt the need to mention that just in case.
Starting off with the old man. We have Cyrus Gaunt, the head of the family.
(obviously he looks older than he does here-- since he's old af but I'm just working with what I got lol) Cyrus is the father of the five children + the head of the Gaunt family. He's the oldest out of all of his own siblings, hence why he ended up as the head. To put it frankly, he's a psychopath and crazy. On top of all the crimes the Gaunt family commits against Muggles, Squibs, and other Witches/Wizards who don't share his ideologies, he also runs an underground smuggling organization alongside his brothers and two of his sons. That alone has racked up his crime record.
His marriage to his wife, Belladonna was 100% arranged but he found some sort of love in her eventually. Definitely not your stereotypical loving husband and wife. However she gave him children and is a pureblood supremacist so that was really all he was asking for.
In the simplest way possible, he is a cruel man who doesn't care if he harms others. Or even if he himself gets harmed in the process as long as he has fun doing it. His son, Marvolo, was actually the one to give him the massive scar. He and Marvolo had always had a rocky relationship ever since his sons birth and when Marvolo was fourteen, he had really pissed his father off.
Cyrus threatened to throw Marvolo out if he couldn't prove he was worth something. He challenged him to a duel and said if his son could even get one hit on him--he could stay. Marvolo, not really caring what happened, just wanted to take the opportunity to fight his father. One thing led to another and Cyrus ended up with that massive scar on his face. (smooth move bro).
So yeah he's miserable and a total pain but gotta give it to him for being so persistently annoying.
Moving onto the mama of the family: Belladonna Gaunt.
Belladonna Gaunt is the unfortunate woman to have married that stick in the mud up there. She holds strong pureblood ideologies however she's much less cruel than her husband. However that "less cruel" part really only applies to her family or close friends. She loves her children and that's pretty much it. Of course there is some kind of love between her and her husband but it feels more "professionally forced" if you know what I mean.
So needless to say she was quite upset anytime Cyrus did anything rash against their children since she didn't agree with it. However, that doesn't exempt her from the Gaunts regular hobbies of torturing muggles in their own living room. She hardly actively participated but she often watched and found enjoyment in it.
But things like the night Ominis' was crucio'ed for the first time, she left in tears before anything happened--clearly upset about her husbands choice to allow his older brothers to do that to him.
Despite this, her beliefs are still deep rooted in pureblood supremacy and she does believe in violence against others she doesn't see as equals to her. Sooo she definitely does have her flaws.
Onto the oldest: Aurelius Gaunt.
Ever heard of parents picking favorites? Well yeah, he is the perfect example of being the favored child. His name, Aurelius, can be translated to "The golden one" (lol the golden child) which pretty much speaks for itself. However, that's not it. His middle name is Avyaan/Avyan (however you prefer to spell it) which can literally be translated to "he who has no imperfections" so yeah.. you guys can pretty much guess how they feel about their son based on that.
In that time period it was very desired to have a son, specifically a firstborn who was a son. Someone who could carry on the family name and legacy and so the Gaunts got exactly what they wanted when their firstborn was a boy. Aurelius grew up as the golden child, basically being the perfect son his parents wanted him to be. Cruel, willing to do anything for them (even if it was illegal) and much, much more.
Aurelius' approach to acts of cruelty tend to be much different than how most of his family approaches it. He tends to analyze things before going straight into it. But sometimes he just doesn't care, it really depends on what he's feeling like. Aurelius helps his father run the underground smuggling organization and is his fathers successor to the Gaunt family name and fortune.
He's always had a bit of a rivalry with his younger brother, Marvolo, and that sprouted feelings of hate on both sides but he's more tolerant of Marvolo than Marvolo is of him. Aurelius married a pureblood girl from France and they have two children.
However following the events of Matty Ambrose's 7th year at Hogwarts while Aurelius was roped up in Leona Oswald's crimes, he was eventually put in Azkaban for his crimes , which was quite shocking seeming how often the Gaunts could weasel their way out of punishment for their actions. Although that was mostly due to the fact that Marvolo was persecuting him himself.
However years later, Aurelius ended up being released on a deal that he would no longer participate in acts of crime and would have no association with his family outside of his wife and his children. But he was eventually allowed to attend the funeral of his mother, father, and sister but nothing else other than that. And because of that deal, everything he would've gotten from his family instead went to Marvolo (which was the reason why Marvolo even attempted to put his brother in prison in the first place, even though he himself was arguably worse). Aurelius lived the rest of his life in rural area in France with his wife.
Next in line is the crazy one we all already know: Marvolo Gaunt.
Now you might be looking at him and be wondering: Why isn't he short, ugly, and look like a monkey??
As I mentioned earlier, this universe does differ from the HP universe. But don't worry, he gets what's coming to him and later on in life he gets cursed and that's when he becomes ugly and starts looking like a monkey as described in the books I promise LOL.
But now that we've got that out of the way, let's start talking about this git. Just as firstborn sons were desired so they could carry on the family name and legacy, second born sons were desired too... as backups.
Yup, that's basically why he exists to his parents. And they never even tried to hide that from him. Belladonna and Cyrus hoped to have a second son just in case something ever happened to Aurelius--and they did end up having a second son but since nothing ever happened to Aurelius till much later, they severely neglected Marvolo throughout his life. Marvolo was born crazy and violent, that just a fact. However his childhood did have an impact on him which led to him being even more inclined to commit crimes and do horrible acts.
He fought constantly with his siblings, his parents, and basically anybody around him. He misbehaved and was punished severely because of it and he got in trouble with the Ministry several times. Each and every time his father would have to pull some stupid strings to get him out of that situation. Marvolo saw the way they treated Aurelius and was massively jealous of his older brother, so he tried to get his parents to treat him the same way.
He had a better relationship with his mother than he did his father as at times Belladonna did show that she cared about him. But Cyrus put Marvolo in enough dangerous situations carelessly to make known that he didn't care that much at all.
But if there was one thing that he knew his parents liked, it was violence. So he was going to upstage his brother in any way possible to "make his parents proud". This led to him being driven to mass violence and deeper and deeper into madness. Eventually driving him to the point where he killed and tortured innocent people for his own fun and enjoyment. His parents did end up liking him a bit more for that, knowing that if there was anyone they didn't like and needed gone, that Marvolo would take care of it in a heartbeat (as long as there was something in it for him.)
To gain revenge on his older brother, he ended up black mailing Matty in her 7th year at Hogwarts in order to get her to gather information about Aurelius' hand in Leona's crime organization in order to put Aurelius away for good. Of course, this wasn't exactly easy because Matty was like "tf?? no??" but eventually he was able to force her into helping him after the Aranshire incident (ifykyk.)
Eventually this plan worked and Marvolo ended up with all of Aurelius' inheritance and would later on become the head of the family after Cyrus' death.
Later in his life, Marvolo was forced to marry a pureblood girl he didn't care much for. He had two children, Morfin and Merope (we all know them) but didn't care much after his wife died. It did send him spiraling a bit but not because he was sad but because that meant he had to deal with the children alone.
His sister-in-law was extremely angry due to his carelessness regarding his wife and her sisters death. So she was the one that ended up cursing him, leading him to look like how he's described in the books. (deserved lolol)
Moving onto the middle child and first daughter: Selene Gaunt.
Out of all the Gaunts besides Ominis, Selene is one of the more moral ones. Tbh she's kinda a girlboss and I love her for that. Selene is the oldest and first daughter in the Gaunt family, so naturally she was doted on a little bit more than her other siblings growing up. She is pretty much along the lines of the stereotypical oldest daughter. She takes care of her siblings, makes sure things runs smoothly, but finds her siblings extremely annoying LOL.
She does have favorites and it's Ominis, simply because she doesn't find him as annoying. Her ideologies aren't nearly as deep rooted as her family but she kept that a secret. Truly, she didn't care that much about pureblood supremacy and didn't exactly agree with the torture of innocent people. Out of all of them (except Ominis), she has the cleanest record.
However she fell in line just to please her family. She did what she was told and that's how she stayed out of trouble. She dislikes Marvolo and Lyssa the most since she thinks they're annoying. Especially since Lyssa basically became a "mini-Marvolo". Now THAT annoyed her.
She'll be the first to tell them to shut up and start acting civilized and is definitely the more sensible one. Like Ominis, she was quite close to her late Aunt Noctua, which is the reason why she is the way she is. But she keeps the fact that she's not as dedicated to her families ideologies as they are a secret.
Per request of her family, she married a pureblood man, settled down and had children. Unfortunately her death came rather early in life but she was remembered well by her brother Ominis. She was the only family member he really ever stayed in contact with after leaving.
(and we all know who Ominis' is so we're just going to skip down to Lyssa lol)
This is Lyssa Gaunt, she is the youngest out of the family and the craziest outside of Marvolo. Lyssa, like Marvolo, was born with mental issues that effected her life from her first breath. And growing up it never got any better. When she was first born, her parents couldn't think of a name for her. They did take note of how quickly she'd get so angry even at a very young age, so like the horrible parents they are they decided to name her after the Greek Goddess Lyssa, who represented rage and fury (and rabies in animals, if you wanna go that far lol.) So the name unfortunately fit.
Lyssa grew up doing cruel things from the get-go, whether it was torturing small animals or pulling harmful pranks to her nannies and the help around the house. But since her parents were older and busier by the time she was born, she was hardly punished for any of this.
Marvolo had tried to get Selene and Ominis to follow in his footsteps of madness however he knew that wasn't going to work out. So he turned his attention to his youngest sister. He enabled and encouraged every bad thing she did, which caused him to quickly become her favorite sibling. They were really the only two who ever got along outside of Ominis and Selene.
Lyssa was also very naturally talented at legilimency from a very young age as well. (It's a trait I HC most of the Gaunts have, however think of her like Queenie Goldstein from Fantastic Beasts). This made it so she could easily see inside people's heads, invading their privacy and finding out personal information about them. She was later used to find out information about the Aranshire incident and anything Matty had to do with it (which enabled Marvolo to use that information to blackmail her.)
Lyssa's only friends at school were the rats she found scurrying around. She'd use the unforgivable imperio to make them do anything she wanted.
Unfortunately for her, Lyssa's life ended much sooner than the others and she was never quite sure if she ever experienced true happiness. She really only felt exhilaration and "glee" from cruelty but never true happiness. In quick attempts to get their last child married off, Cyrus and Belladonna forced Lyssa into an unhealthy marriage.
However, unlike her siblings who complied. Lyssa refused and it did not go well for her, unfortunately. Lyssa took her own life within the first couple of months of the marriage, believing it was the only way to escape. She was only nineteen when this happened.
Her death only threw the Gaunts down a more slippery slope as it was the beginning to their massive downfall that would eventually render the Gaunts irrelevant, powerless, poor, and reduced to nothing but shameful criminals.
Well if you read through all of that--dang, im proud of you LOL. It's pretty grim however that's exactly how the Gaunts are so I'd say unfortunately it's pretty accurate. But thank you for reading anyway and I appreciate it! ❤️

Hogwarts Legacy character's headcanon : Ominis Gaunt
TW : we enter the realm of the Gaunt so we'll be delving into some really dark shit. Abuse, SA, torture, you name it. If it's something you are not comfortable with it's OK but you should refrain from reading the first part of this headcanon.
Growing up / Hogwart days :
Before Ominis came 3 older Gaunt. Lucrecia, Malakai and Noctua.
True to the Gaunt tradition, Malakai, Ominis's father, married his older sister Lucrecia to keep the line. Thing is, inbreeding for generation is not the healthiest reproductive method and it ended up with Lucrecia being unable to produce a child.
With an infertile wife Malakai resorted to an old Gaunt tradition and "sollicited" Noctua's help, resulting in his sister birthing Malakai sole heir : Ominis. While Lucrecia and Malakai raised him, Noctua was bound to secrety by shame and an Unbreakable Vow.
Ominis's branch of the Gaunt is not the same as Marvolo's. They are, of course, related, but cousins.
For a while Malakai wanted to get ride of Ominis for being blind but due to the high probability his wife would not be able to give him any children he kept him.
His first words were in Parsletongue (as every Gaunt)
Growing up, Ominis was heavely watched over by the house staff, mainly as a way to please Lord and Lady Gaunt as he was the only heir. His only love came from Noctua who would give up her freedom to come live in the Manor just to see him (while unable to tell him their true relationship) and the snakes that lived around the Manor as it was kind of a safe haven for them.
Ominis's magic took a while to appear, leading his "parents" to think that not only was he blind but maybe also a squib...the Cruciatus event was a way to celebrate his magic showing up so it was the first spell he used using Lucrecia's wand and guidance. He was 10.
This is the only time Noctua stepped in, when Malakai cursed Ominis and she whopped her brother's ass, so far as using the cruciatus curse on him too as her Gaunt trait took over. Ominis had been terrified of her for weeks after that as she had sounded nothing like the loving and caring aunt he knew.
Hogwart days :
Packing for Hogwarts was terrifying for Ominis as it meant leaving the only place he knew. It was Hell yeah but it was familiar Hell and for an 11 blind boy it was better than anything. It also meant leaving Noctua.
He met the twins on the boat to the castle when he almost fell in the Lake while boarding (first time on a boat) and Anne grabbed him. She was the twin who adopted him the fastest cause Sebastian hated him at first ! (he was jealous HIS sister made another friend)
His got a Malfoy like sorting, the Hat barely touched his head that he ended up in Slytherin due to his ancestry and he had a hard time not crying when it happened. His only comfort was that Anne and her "dumb brother" were sent there too.
It did not take long for the other students to pick on him due to his blindness and shy nature and just like she did when kids would make fun of Seb for stattering, Anne broke a bunch of noses.
One evening, as Anne was in detention for defendin Ominis again, Sebastian lashed out at him and accused him of being bad influence on his sister. Instead of fighting back Ominis crawled into a ball and begged for forgiveness, like he used to when his parents would pass their nerves on him. That's when Seb realized something was really wrong and he ended up hugging a shaking Ominis. That's when they became friends. (Anne found out and kicked Seb's butt for being an ass !)
He would spent all his breaks at Hogwarts with the twins and tell them about his life at the manor so when the time came and the Sallow twins showed up Solomon did not really had a choice as the kids had "adopted" Ominis. His relations with Solomon were polite at first and, after a while, he was just another of his nephew.
After the events of HL, he went and told on Sebastian naively hoping the grown up would help his friend. He was aiming for Ste Mungos as Seb clearly had lost his marbles, not Azkaban. He would bear the guilt of being wrong till his last breath (wether Seb had a life long sentence or just some years)
He had to go back to the Manor and took it as punishment for not being able to save Seb. His parents took him back in more as a way to avoid the scandal of throwing out a blind 16 years old and made sure he knew they hated his guts.
With Anne cursed and Seb in jail for murder, he lost everything. Back at school the rumors were even louder and most people, including the Ministry thought he had something to do in Solomon's death. Some even assumed HE had taught Sebastian the killing curse, with being a Gaunt and all...
Adult life :
The day he turned 17, his parents arranged a marriage with a lowly Pureblood (he was blind and they were broke so no one of "value" wanted them) planning to have him married right after he graduated to get him out of the picture. If he was to be useless, at least he would give them proper heirs to raise.
He had no expectation when it came to his personnal life, instead focusing on his career as a public prosecutor for the Department of Justice in the Ministry.
He literally met his wife at the altar and at first relations between them were tensed as they both assumed the other was an ass raised as "proper" Pureblood but always polite abd civil as she did not seem to act like a threat. He refused to kiss her at the altar and to share a bedroom with her which she did not complain about.
Things changed when she took his defense. One night, while invited to a diner at his parent's his drunk father started to rant about his and how useless he was. He went as far as cruciating his son, only to end up Depulsoed against a wall. Ominis's wife had stepped in, informing that she would not tolerate her husband to be humiliated (and herself by extention) and that next time it would not be the wall but the window. Malakai tried to fight back but Ominis, still shocked she of all people would step up, intervened and fought back for the first time in 25 years, breaking his father's wand. The couple never set foot in the Manor again and Ominis ended up disowed a few weeks later. He litteraly jumped on her the moment they were home and they spent the night kissing and hugging innocently (cause he is a gentleman !).
They tried but never had kids as Ominis could not (inbreeding). He himself never really wanted kids still he blamed himself for inflicting this pain on his wife who wanted some.
One day he got a letter from a little girl informing him her mother had passed. Before her death, the woman had told her daughter, should she ever need anything, to write to a man named Ominis Gaunt. Turned out, after leaving Anne managed to live a rather normal life, Rockwood's curse slowly vanishing after his death. She got pregnant and had a daughter as a single mother. This is how Lucy Sallow entered Ominis's life. The day after the letter they were on Lucy's doorstep.
Ominis and his wife raised the girl like their own, even thou she was a squib and he cryed like a big baby the day his little girl got married for love. That night, during the party he asked his wife in marriage. He knew it sounded stupid as they were already married for years but he wanted to do it properly this time and he was a blushing mess when he knelt in front of his wife, stattering as he was afraid she would say no since she had a choice this time. They renewed their vows a few weeks after. This time he kissed her at the altar.
Ominis Gaunt died of old age, surrounded by his wife, his daughter Lucy and his 6 grand children. He bore the guilt of what happened when he was 15 to the end thou and his last thought went to Sebastian. He would remained in the books for his work and how he changed the way underaged witch and wizards were prosecuted when commiting a crime. Thanks to his dedication, young witches and wizards are not prosecuted like adult anymore and can't face a life time sentence in Azkaban (his work later applied to a young Rubeus Hagrid...)

Aileen’s father came from a strict pureblood family. His family formed an union with the Black family via Iola Black. The two never had any children together, much to the dismay of both families.
He was sent to Greece for work where he met a young muggle woman whom he fell in love with. By the time he completed his assignment, she was pregnant with Aileen.
Not wanting to abandon her, he brought her home to Scotland. Understandably, his parents and the Black family were upset with him. The families become more upset upon learning that Iola had been messing around with a muggle man. Eventually Iola moved out of her shared home with him and married Bob Hitchens and was disowned from the Black family. The Berwicks were soon to follow with their son.
Forced out of the Berwick vacation home, he and his lover are forced to find a new home. They settled down in Lancaster, where they planned on raising their child together.
However, Aileen’s mother wasn’t able to survive giving birth to her. This devastated her father greatly. He tried his best to raise her on his own but every time he looked at her, he was reminded of his love. The townspeople that he grew acquainted with prior to Aileen’s birth grew concerned when they noticed him hardly leaving his home and would constantly hear baby Aileen crying.
On Aileen’s first birthday, he couldn’t deal with the pain any longer. He took her to Irondale and dropped her off on his sister’s doorstep. He returned to his parents’ estate to beg for forgiveness.
Aileen’s aunt had also been disowned by their parents, but it was due to her being a squib. Despite the strange circumstances, she did take in Aileen. As she grew healthier, her hair changed from the chestnut color that her mother gifted her to carnation pink. This greatly shocked her aunt.
Aileen’s aunt finally received a letter from her brother explaining the family situation. This greatly infuriated her but she tried not to take it out on Aileen. It was hard for her, though. Especially when Aileen reached ten and still hadn’t shown any magical abilities. Yet another disgrace to the Berwick name. She became more bitter with each passing year.
The way her aunt treated her caused Aileen to become reserved. This translated into her hair as it slowly returned to the chestnut color she was born with.
Aileen started spending more time outside, often not returning home until well past dark. It always ended in a fight but it was better than dealing with the verbal abuse all day.
She mostly spent her time observing all of the witches and wizards, often mimicking their wand movements with a random stick she found. Every time nothing happened, she felt even worse about herself.
On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, as she sat at the riverbank, she threw a rock in frustration. The impact of it was much harder than it should’ve been for a simple throw. When she glanced at her reflection in the water, her eyes were glowing a much lighter shade of blue than her natural eye color.
She panicked and rushed home. Her aunt was ready to reprimand her until she, too, noticed Aileen’s eyes. She placed her hands on Aileen’s cheeks and wiped away the tears.
After calming Aileen down, she sent an owl to both the ministry and her brother regarding what happened. Aileen’s father surprisingly left the Berwick estate as soon as he read the letter.
Aileen is surprised to see her own father, the man that had abandoned her as an infant. She wasn’t sure how to feel about seeing him after all these years, especially when the first thing he told her was that her grandparents were willing to take her in. While she wasn’t happy living with her aunt, she knew that her grandparents would likely be far worse.
“They’d be willing to look past your blood status as long as you renounce Natasa and claim to be Iola’s daughter.”
“They’d forgive my past sins if you agree.”
“My sister has told me about your ability to change your appearance. I’ll show you how Iola looked before she disappeared.”
Seeing Aileen hesitate confused her father. He began berating her until it grew to a head by him comparing her to his “good for nothing sister.” Aileen tried standing up for herself and her aunt but was met with a harsh slap across the face. The stones from the family ring adorning his finger dragged across her face.
Overwhelmed, Aileen left the home and didn’t look back. She followed the river, completely disoriented and her cheek bleeding. As she walked by one of the many floo flames she’d witnessed witches and wizards use for travel, an older man appeared from it. It startled her so much she screamed.
Eleazar Fig became her tutor for the remainder of the summer as she remained in Irondale. At first, her aunt wasn’t keen on the stranger constantly entering her home. But as time wore on, she grew used to his presence. Aileen’s hair even returned to the carnation pink from her early childhood. It was an emotional day when she had to bid farewell to Aileen so she could go buy her school supplies and attend Hogwarts for her fifth year.
The mark on her cheek served as a constant reminder of how much of a disgrace she was. She hid it behind her hair constantly.
Combat: defensive. She isn’t the best when it comes to aim, as she’s still adjusting to her magic and using a wand. Once adrenaline takes over, her aim improves significantly.
Relationships:
Sebastian Sallow: positive. He was the first of her peers to show her kindness and she feels indebted to him.
Anne Sallow: positive. She can see herself in Anne and only wishes the best for her.
Ominis Gaunt: very positive. Despite how much she cares for Sebastian, she sympathizes with Ominis’ hesitancy and disdain for the Dark Arts.
Imelda Reyes: neutral. She likes Imelda’s competitive attitude.
Duncan Hobhouse: hates. She holds the venomous tentacula stunt over his head.
Amit Thakkar: positive. If it weren’t for him, she would’ve failed astronomy.
Everett Clopton: negative. She believed they could be good friends until she witnessed him bullying others. It reminded her too much of her aunt when she was younger.
Natsai Onai: positive. She quickly became one of Aileen’s best friends.
Garreth Weasley: very positive. What started as a loyal friendship quickly blossomed into something deeper in her heart. They constantly collaborated on his new ideas.
Leander Prewett: neutral. She doesn’t know Leander all that well but he seemed decent enough.
Lucan Brattleby: positive. He was very helpful in teaching her better dueling techniques.
Poppy Sweeting: positive. She started off being nervous around beasts, especially large ones, but Poppy helped with her fear.
Professor Sharp: negative. He doesn’t appreciate her encouraging and helping Garreth.
Professor Weasley: positive. She sees her as a mother figure.
Headmaster Black: very negative. This is due to both her blood and her father's betrayal of his sister.

Argus Filch HC:
FIlch, as a young squib, did actually try to integrate with Muggle society. He comes from a family of purebloods - not a 28, but haughty and desperately wish they were. A little like the Malfoys, they have connections to the Muggle side of things, mainly for money (the appearance of being effortlessly rich in the Wizarding World via exploiting the Muggle world) and the hobby of collecting artifacts and art.
Imagine the shock and shame to his parents to have birthed a squib. Whispers about his mother or grandmother having a secret 'muggle lover' were everywhere across high pureblood society - true or not, it brought shame. With their connections, they tried to at least give Argus a good muggle life that would leave him still connected to the family:
He was trained by an art conservator-restorer.
He can paint. He can match pigments. He can tell what type of animal glue was used on the canvas - he is highly skilled, careful and methodical. He was trained with a perfectionist approach. The early 1900s were a difficult time, especially in Muggle England. Being an apprentice was not easy and his master was strict.
He never liked the Muggle world. He never liked Muggles - he might have been a squib but he turned his nose up at the non-magicals. His rich Muggle clients were all tasteless buffoons that hardly saw the value in what they wanted restored other than in pounds.
Despite his prickly, cold, distrusting personality... he is a very sentimental man. He does truly love art. The idea of capturing a moment in time, or a moment in fantasy, in a way that both feels real and yet utterly unreal - it is like a magic Muggles have mastered.
Portraits are his favourite - and while there is a beauty in the magic of Wizarding paintings, he finds the quiet stillness of good Muggle work not that different... you still feel you are getting to know the subject just through looking at them. If he can appreciate one things Muggles do - it is their eye for detail and dedication to getting things just-so. Like his master.
In the late 60s, when there were whispers of a Dark Magic cult growing in popularity within the shadows, some of his family feared for him. So... he packed up his Muggle life, and with a near childish glee - was brought to Hogwarts.
Some had reservations about hiring a Squib to the school - could he really manage to work in a whole castle without magic...? However the new Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, was known already to have an eccentric penchant for hiring unusual staff - he had, as a teacher, insisted a violent Half-Giant be trained as Gameskeeper after his expulsion - and had recently hired a part-Goblin as a Charms teacher.
With so many portraits to clean, upkeep, restore, re-frame, soothe from panics and get to know in order to organize for searches and the like... Argus' particular skills would be a blessing. Something as complex as art, especially enchanted art, was not something a simple 'Reparo' could sufficiently fix. It left scars that only careful restoration could mend.
Argus did not see eye-to-eye with Dumbledore on most matters. However he is loyal and thankful to him, for giving him a life within the Wizarding World - within the school he could never attend. And sometimes, just sometimes, they chat. Albus keeps one foot in the muggle world at all times - and has on occasion invited Argus to art galleries around Muggle Europe during the summers. Sometimes he grows tired of Portraits chatting and complaining.
But he is as methodical as ever - and he prefers their company to that of most actual people. Simple to please, uncomplicated - he knows all of their names, when they were painted, the details of their canvas - some cry out to him that 'My paint is getting dry-!' or 'Are you sure a silver frame wouldn't be more fetching for me...?' They see him like a doctor. His care for them is evident, even when they help students sneak around behind his back.
This is how the Fat Lady was restored in PoA - and why it took so long: He did it by hand, with great care.

Reinventing my Gryffindor MC: Genevieve Belette
Getting immersed in my first proper longfic for the fandom again, The Darkness Within, I went and changed my Gryffindor MC up a little. Her backstory/my headcanons for her are still somewhat the same, she just looks a little different. (Thank goodness for mods!) (That fic portrays an older version of her, where she's 21/23, and it's NSFW! Just FYI!)
Name: Genevieve Belette
brown eyes * ginger * 1.55m/155cm (5′1“) * Gryffindor
born on April 1, 1875 on the outskirts of London
Aries (who is determined, courageous, charismatic, honest, passionate, energetic, impatient, impulsive)
was born a Weasley: Father was a Weasley, mother a Rosier (making her a pure-blood, despite being born a Squib), and when she didn't receive her Hogwarts letter at age 11, she was sent to live with non-magical relatives (the Belettes) in France, who practically adopted her, where she stayed until she turned 15
has a strained relationship with her parents and even though they somewhat accepted her back into the family after she found her magic, she still holds a little bit of a grudge (and will keep the name of her adoptive parents)
has a scar on her right cheek (was a reckless child who tried everything to awaken her magic, but failed, mother refused to heal her wound properly and left her with that scar, sent her away shortly thereafter)
was taught to be a proper lady in France (had a house teacher) and it took her a while to get used to the fact that girls wore trousers in Hogwarts
is an introvert (grows up to be quite the opposite though)
has a severe fear of heights, hates flying
is very helpful, but reckless in doing so, prefers to be alone, but allows a certain extrovert to accompany her on her adventures
had a crush on Professor Sharp before falling for Sebastian
How she looks:
Face 001, Skin color 022 Hair color: Dark Ginger, Eye color: Medium Brown Eyebrow shape 006, Eyebrow color: Dark Ginger Freckles 3, Complexion Type 3, Scars: Lines on right cheek
Mods I used:
Wednesday Addams Inspired Makeup Variations (no lipstick version) Custom Hair Very Long 41 (no bangs version)
Notes:
Yes, she is basically Ginny Weasley with her twin brothers' birth date, I was very creative when naming and creating her XD (belette is also the French word for weasel, so, there's that) Rosier was/is a pure-blood family originating in France in HP canon, but I HC that those relatives come from the Weasley side. And even though she is related to Garreth and Prof Weasley, it is very distant and they might not know about it due to their vast family tree and her name change (and her mother's influence, the Rosiers were much stricter and Darker and I can imagine her mother had cut the ties to her husband's family because she didn't think as open as the Weasleys did).
More on her life during Hogwarts can be read in my very first, now abandoned HL fanfic Diary of a Snake Lover on FF.net.
Post-Hogwarts (spoilers for The Darkness Within):
dies after having absorbed Isidora's magic because her soul was too pure to handle the darkness, is resurrected by Sebastian and ends up in the future - found by Tom Riddle
is easily influenced by others, lets the darkness within get the better of her and turns her life around completely: becomes manipulative, seductive, knows what she wants, gives her life to Tom's cause and recruits for him with every means possible (basically uses her body and Dark magic)
has forgotten/suppressed everything prior (manipulated by Tom)
is very conflicted once she remembers her former life thanks to Sebastian's intervention
her fate is yet to be determined!
Read more about her and Sebastian's trip to Tom Riddle's timeline right here: The Darkness Within.
The story is hosted on AO3, but here are Chapter excerpts posted on Tumblr (careful, they are NSFW!):
Chapter 6 (fluff) here Chapter 7 (smut) here Chapter 8 (angsty smut) here Chapter 9 (TomxMC smut) here
I also tried recreating my story during an AI RP session with a Tom Riddle bot, can be read here: Magical Fingers (also NSFW, sorry!)

I had so much fun writing this up as I drank my coffee this morning, thanks for making the templates @kiwiplaetzchen 🥹🙏
A little bit of backstory for Eloise - I’ll do an actual drawing etc etc in the future but for now if you’re interested!!:
Eloise has a brother, Leonard (Leo) who is a year older than her (I want to draw him soon!!) and her parents are both (unfortunately 😔🙏) still very much alive. If the family had continued to the 1930s, they would DEFINITELY have been part of the Sacred 28, making it the Sacred 29 instead. Her father was an only child so he inherited everything, and her mother is Elladora Babbit née Black, the woman who started the Black family tradition of beheading useless house elves😭 (and yes unfortunately that makes Headmaster Black Eloise’s uncle😫).
Eloise was kept a secret from the rest of magic society her whole life. In my imagination, the pureblood families have so much inbreeding amongst themselves that it’s not uncommon for them to give birth to squibs. Part of pureblood culture is not announcing they’ve given birth to a child until they’ve shown signs of magic - normally around 3/4 years old at most. When Eloise never showed ANY signs of magic, she was just their shameful secret. On her eleventh birthday when it was all but confirmed she was a squib, she was burned off the family tree and spent the next five years at a muggle finishing school. Always looking to take advantage of whatever they could get, however, Eloise’s parents arranged a marriage between her and the firstborn son of a wealthy muggle landowner when she came of age.
Her family had no idea that she was admitted to Hogwarts (they cut off all ties to her and disowned her) and Leo, who had always been fiercely protective of her growing up was simultaneously devastated and ecstatic that he could see his sister again. It’s been really hard to repair the relationship though, as there is a lot of resentment that they cannot get over even though they want to😭. And, for as much as her parents dictated everything about how her life has gone, Eloise can’t help but try to work hard to get their love and approval as it’s all she ever thought she wanted. And now that she’s in a position to become the daughter they’ve always desired, she feels a lot of resentment towards herself. She feels as if she’s betraying the young girl who was abandoned by her family, because she wants their approval so badly (it will take a while for her to get over this😔🙏)
In terms of the personality I did it a bit like the sims where I just max things out bc I think everything in the middle is boring jajajaja. But:
Shy: not shy in the sense she can’t talk to other people and she isn’t necessarily socially awkward. She just doesn’t always know what to say and will remain silent if she thinks she has nothing to add to a conversation instead of yapping away (BUT unfortunately rambles and over explains herself to not be misunderstood when she does talk, THANKS narcissistic mother), and normally she wishes people would ignore her. When the Daily Prophet article came out about her “miraculous” recovery and introduction to magical society she HATED it & she HATES all of the people trying to talk to her and befriend her.
Active: NOT active as in super energetic. She just wakes up really early and always needs to keep herself busy. She gets anxious if she doesn’t have anything to do - but, she includes thinking as doing something, and often retreats into her thoughts and doesn’t realize when people are talking to her.
I think grouchy and nice can exist together so with this one I put it in the middle. She’s both simultaneously😭
Aaaand with cowardly/brave, she thinks she is really cowardly for going back to her parents so easily and wanting their love so badly, and hates herself for it (not realizing it’s an accumulation of a lifetime of emotional trauma). But lots of times when things get very high-stakes she will jump in and do incredibly reckless things without thinking of the consequences, although if she stopped to think before she acted she would definitely NOT do them. So maybe brave in actions, cowardly on the inside (IDK)
If you read all of this I love you!! I want to share more about her but this was getting crazy long jajajajajajaja😇🙏
#a (not so) little introduction of Eloise#probably in my drawinfs I’ll keep treating her like a historical fashion barbie jajajajajajaj#but I wanted to share a bit of her as a person🙏🙏#hogwarts legacy#hogwarts legacy fanart#hphl#hogwarts legacy mc#hogwarts legacy oc#eloise#my editing skills are so bad I feel like there was an easier way to make this😅#and sorry I rambled😭😭😭🙏🙏#eloise babbit

Do the Nezumi/Mosley's have generational trauma?
Generational trauma is beginning to leech into the lives of the Nezumi siblings, but it didn't come from their parents. It came from learning about their ancestors that were born after the Moseleys were killed off and the sole survivor of the Moseleys was spirited away to Earth then adopted.
After they were the Moseleys and before they were the Nezumis, they were the Mochizukis.
Content Warnings: mentions of abuse/neglect, toxic family dynamics, deaths caused by parricide and implied suicide
I've revealed a bit of the family history from Takashi's side of the family in chapter 12 of Epics of Ink and Light. When the family still a Pureblood/Halfblood family living on Earth, at least one child in every generation inherits the curse. Because of the hysteria and disastrous magic that comes with being curse-bearers, they were treated as the burdens and black sheep of the family. They often died before their twenties, too making marriage and children near impossible of a milestone for them to achieve
Akane was a rare exception. While she never married, she did have a son who was a squib and lived to at least her forties. Seen as a failure for not only being a curse-bearer but also failing to give birth to a magical child, she takes her frustration out on her son and later her family then herself, once again wiping out the family and leaving one survivor being Akane's son, who I will call Touma.
Touma is the current Nezumi siblings' great-great-great grandfather. The man later marries a normal Muggle woman and changes his surname to Nezumi (which I was told by an Ao3 commentor would actually not be a Japanese surname, so I decided to use that as a plot point) in order to seperate himself from the Mochizukis. For the next five generations, they were a normal muggle famiy until the Flor, Kento, Alexis, then Minako were born making them a generation of Muggleborns. Four Muggleborns from one family to boot, which was exceptionally rare.
See, the Mochizukis continuing the cycle of abuse and neglect rather of offering support is what made the situation from bad to worse, and it nearly destroyed them all in the end. Minuette and Michael look down upon their descendants in shame from the afterlife.
Touma may have shoved his past completely behind, but at the very least he broke the cycle for the next few generations. It was easy since magic wasn't involved, and therefore, the curse could not be involved.
Minako is treated much better than her ancestors were, much to the relief of Minuette and Michael's ghosts. Her parents may be gone, but her siblings are there. They still love her.
Right?

late in the fandom to introduce my OC, always just lurked and enjoyed the many HCs and creative works from you great people providing me a form of escape from life's happenings-- so here's me taking a part of my girlhood back, it used to be mine.
Meet Beatrice Hayes
credits to @/nekosweets for this awesome HL Student ID i saw on Twitter!
HOUSE: Ravenclaw
HAIR: short, wavy, dark brown
EYES: green
HEIGHT: 5'3"
BLOOD STATUS: muggle-born
BIRTHDAY: July 5th
WAND: Aspen, Dragon Heartstring
PATRONUS: mongrel dog
PET: barn owl, Hermes
BACKSTORY: Her mother was a Squib who died giving birth to her, she never knew her father, who she assumes is a no-good Muggle who didn't take responsibility for her mother. Her Nana took care of her, by any magical means necessary, until the poor woman died of a weak heart during her granddaughter's 11th year. Beatrice was later shipped off to a nontraditional convent, as per her Nana's curious last will, where she was further educated and trained to wield a sword. If not for the sudden emergence of her magic on the day she turned 15, she would have contented herself in the Muggle life laid out for her.
Her Character Creation
still building up her backstory in a fic I'm writing up, hope to post more character-centric templates for the moment, just adore nitpicking at my baby girl (i call my OC that in my head...)

Lachlan McCarthy
FIRST NAME : Lachlan. LAST NAME : McCarthy.
Lachlan McCarthy was born on the 24th of april 1980 and is 44 years old. He is the son of a wizard and a muggle, but he was abandoned at birth by his mother who did not want to raise a wizard's child, and by his father who did not want to raise a squib.
Raised in an orphanage until he was 18, he was never adopted. He entered the army after his short studies and was traumatized by war crimes. When he returned home, he took a job as a mechanic.
It was in 2018 that he discovered his true nature as a squib and thus the existence of the magical world. He worked hard to find his father, but when he did, he did not give him a happy reunion, eliminating his entire family and his father last. Thus began the wizard hunts.

What creates a squib (other than Black Magic rituals)? In the case of Black Magic, does Mother Magic herself appear and remove their ability to use magic or is it the cost of the ritual itself? Are the excommunicated squibs forcibly kept from entering Avalon? Why do some squibs give birth to a magical child when, in other cases, magic is only found among their descendants? Sorry for all the questions.
If Mother Magic strips someone's magic from them, they become a Squib. It's not something that occurs often, only as a result of profane circumstances (such as successfully love potioning someone, etc.).
Some Black Magic rituals (such as laying the bloodline curse on the Black family) costs the petitioner their magic and renders them a Squib. Other Black Magic rituals don't (such as Horcrux creation). But everyone who has ever performed a Black Magic ritual ended up suffering horrifically and dying.
Essentially, yes. Squibs would not be able to enter Avalon.
Mother Magic decides which children/descendants have access to magic and are allowed to be a potential New Blood.
You're fine, Anon. 😊

So, I had this random Harry Potter (AU?) fanfic idea. What if there was a HP/TVD (TVD stands for “The Vampire Diaries” and it takes TVD elements/aspects and puts it in HP, so it’s still HP and not a crossover) fic? It’s also fem!Harry. There will obviously be a lot of changes to the story, and rebuilding, but I feel like if done right, it can be really cool. Here are some points and stuff I had in mind for it:
The time period would be very different. It either follows the TVD timeline (or it somehow mixes both) or it’s more modern time (like HP cursed child). So, a lot of the characters birth years would have to change and be pushed back and/or forward. If it follows the TVD timeline, than Harry would be born in the year 1992-1993 (instead of 1980), and it should take place in 2003-2004. If it follows the modern timeline, then Harry would be born 2005-2006, and it should take place 2016-2017. Note, it should only start at those years if (and only if) the story starts from the beginning, when they were 10-11. If it starts when they’re 16-17, then depending on which time period that is chosen, it would start off in the years 2008-2009(TVD)/2022-2023(Modern).
It can either be realistic to our real life world or semi-realistic, where some of the events and things that happened in real life happen/happened in there, but not everything (so maybe Covid would not have ever been a thing).
The Potter family would be the Bennett family of the universe. Harry would be Bonnie (the character, not the name). This is mostly because of the whole Bennett witches being so connected with death and “the other side” (bc of Bonnie’s ancestor, Qetsiyah) and then Bonnie becoming the anchor to the other side. Then we have the Potter family also being connected with death and the whole Master of Death thing (bc of Harry’s ancestor, Ignotus) and then Harry becoming the “Master of Death”. Since the Bennett family is mostly dominated by the women, the same can be done with the Potter family, and just make up some more Potter witches if there’s not enough canonical, or, it can focus on both the Witches and Wizards in the family.
Squibs would be the Siphoners. The Squibs can be as they are, magically born people with no magic themselves, and though they can still see magical things, they can’t really interact with it or they can be all that but actually have the ability to siphon (draw out) magic from magical beings/things (obviously with limits) to use.
For the werewolves (or Vamps), they can be kept as they are in HP or can be changed completely to TVD werewolves (and Vamps) or just keep them as they are in HP but they have some TVD aspects (like the werewolves being able to control their transformations with Moonlight rings and vamps being resistant to sunlight with Daylight rings but without giving them any superhuman abilities or immortality).
The founding families could either be the Pureblooded families (the sacred 28) or the founders of Hogwarts (Helga, Rowena, Godric, and Salazar).
The elixir of life in HP is literally just the immortality elixir in TVD (they’re literally the same thing, only, where the HP one has limits/is not forever and you have to drink it regularly, the TVD one is forever just from one drink.
How death(s) and ghosts are handled can be a mixture between both franchises or you can decide on which one you want it to lean towards more.
Vampire Hunters & any other Supernatural Hunters could be made relevant, and actually be (somewhat) important figures in the story. You can do a mixture of both or decide whether you like the TVD or HP version better.
For sirens, they can be as they are in HP, mixed up, or make them as powerful and important as the TVD sirens (or maybe the Veela’s can be changed into what the TVD sirens are instead, since the sirens in HP live in water, have no legs, and thus can’t come out to land. So Veela’s could just be the sirens of the land [land sirens]).

Harry Potter - TVD au (I think that’s what you would call it) prompt
So, It was way late at night and I had this random Harry Potter (AU?) fanfic idea. What if someone made a HP/TVD (TVD stands for “The Vampire Diaries” and it takes TVD elements/aspects and puts it in HP, so it’s still HP and not a crossover) fic? It’s also fem!Harry. There will obviously be a lot of changes to the story, and rebuilding, but I feel like if done right, it can be really cool.
Disclaimer: I’m a big fan of both TVD and HP, but I am by no means an expert on either. I don’t know everything about these franchises or much about their world building and history. My knowledge is very limited. So, please bare with me.
Anyways here are some points and stuff I had in mind for it:
The time period would be very different. It either follows the TVD timeline (or it somehow mixes both) or it’s more modern time (like HP cursed child). So, a lot of the characters birth years would have to change and be pushed back and/or forward. Note, it should only start at those years IF (and only if) you want to start the story from the beginning, when they were 10-11. If you want to start it where they’re 16-17, then depending on which time period you chose to follow you would start off in the years 2008-2009(TVD)/2022-2023(Modern).
It can either be realistic to our real life world or semi-realistic, where some of the events and things that happened in real life happen/happened in there, but not everything (so maybe Covid would not have ever been a thing and so on).
