Man, I'm so dumb
I can't do even basic math!
All this time, I was asking myself "But wait, we already have 10 Strawhats, even not counting Luffy!"
Yeah, past me... WE DON'T
Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, Jinbei - THAT'S 9!!!
So, if Luffy wasn't counting himself when he said he wanted 10 people in his crew, THEN THERE'S STILL ONE SPOT LEFT!
People were right!! I just can't count to save my life, aparently!! 😭

One Piece for the ask game?
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: Nico Robin. She might be my favorite character of all time, not just in One Piece.
Least Favorite character: That's hard. Probably a tie between Garp and Spandam. They both disgust me.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): I don't really have many ships for OP but maybe Nami/Vivi, Yamato/Ace, Killer/Kidd, Robin/Franky, aaandd I guess Uta/Perona (crackship but theres some cute art)
Character I find most attractive: Robin or Ace
Character I would marry: None of them tbh.
Character I would be best friends with: I want to say Luffy, but that's too easy. Maybe Carrot? I don't think I would be best friends with Robin but we are similar, so i think we would enjoy each others company well enough.
A random thought: really think Yamato and Carrot should have joined the crew, I miss them both so much. I also think its a lil silly that people act like they had to have a "roll" to be part of the crew and that's the reason they didn't join. Not everyone on the crew is going to have a designated roll.
An unpopular opinion: Hate Crocodile. Can't stand him. He's a good villain, interesting character. I just want to hit him with my car.
My canon OTP: None. Theres like no romance. None thats memorable to me anyway.
Non-canon OTP: Nami/Vivi.
Most badass character: Robin again LMAO. Can you tell I like her? But seriously, she's just such a strong character, and I don't even mean in terms of physical strength only.
Pairing I am not a fan of: Shanks/Buggy. Nothing really against it I just can't personally see them together.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Sanji. He has all the building blocks of being a great character; he's kind, he's compassionate, he's loyal. He's got a lot of good scenes. One of my favorite scenes in the series is the one where he stands up to his abusive family and disowns them. Unfortunately all of that is undermined by the fact that he's a gross weirdo.
Favourite friendship: The strawhat piratesssss. All of them together. They're special to me. They're the definition of love.

One piece the 10th person
Posting this out in case it actually came true XD
so on “the tenth person” topic
I honestly think it is either no one, if Oda is not that stubborn and is fine with the “I would like to have 10 nakama” being a vague number of people (which i think he totally should drop the obsessiveness on numbers)
or, the tenth person is Trafalgar Law
Before anyone diss me with “Law has his own crew” “He will never agree to be under Luffy” etc
I actually read a lot of those comments and YES, I agree with you!!
However, I just can’t see anyone else being the 10th person
Simply because how the way the story has been written.
It has nothing to do with the design rules that Oda is following
In all honesty, if I am Oda, I probably would use that to trick the readers into thinking someone else being the 10th person
Like I give you this and make you think i am following this rule, but I actually am following another rule.
If you get what I mean.
For me, from a story stand point, any one joining the group after the time skip has to be impressive and essential enough that the readers wont feel like the addition is just because Oda wants 10 people.
Because they don’t have the time benefit Brook and Franky has to warm up with readers.
Both Jinbei and the 10th person has to have the potential to make a multiplying upgrade to the group, create another dynamic, not just an addition
The straw hats after the time skip, is a really stable group, you are not going to get another Usopp and Luffy conflict again from them. But conflicts are what makes the story interesting. The additional members are the ones that have the potential to create inner conflict.
And with the crash, the straw hats can evolve.
So for me, Carrot and Yamato are just not enough. If they are to join the crew, they will just be another brook or franky, following along. Nothings going to change aside from adding more battle Oda has to think of.
But both Jinbei and Law has experience. Jinbei has connection, and Law has strategy. These are things that can make a massive upgrade to the group. And they both have their own opinion, and Law has tons of potential danger after him, so there is possibility for conflicts.
Now back to the comment that “Law has his own crew, he wont abandon them” and also back to the “you think I am following A rule, but I am actually following B rule”
My second thought is, maybe “the X person” does not equal a crew member
It is just up to this point that they happen to overlap
Like…Oda never said what is the definition of the X person, right?
So my guess is: Law is the tenth person, but will not be a straw hat crew member
In that sense, it does not matter if him being a doctor overlaps with Chopper
He’s also not abandoning his crew, him teaming up with straw hats is just a temporary solution for his situation
He is also not under Luffy, he’s just there to help
and in terms of the symmetry rule, he can be parallel to Robin
( Robin wearing a spotted shirt in this group shot?? hmmm?? (eyebrow twitch))
Tumblr media
and also
I have no proof for this, but i think Law would be a good correspondence to Aokiji from Blackbeard Pirate
They are both part of the group but also not really part of the group
they also do not really need to fight, they can just be talking shit while the others are fighting their own battle
after all, they did have a similar comment about perspective (There is some scenery you cannot see without changing perspective)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you read to this point, thank you and you are welcome to diss me now

Usopp x Ulti Part 1
All right, time to make something that I just can't get out of my head. I feel like these two make for a great couple, and I hope more people follow suit on this. To be fair, I don't blame anyone who doesn't like this ship since this is an extremely odd pairing, but the more you think about it the more it just works.
Also, this is on both my FF.net account and my AO3 account. If you want more of this, by all means, Here you go!
The battle is over. The Mink-Samurai-Pirate alliance has beaten both the Beast pirates and the Big Mom pirates. Now, at the Flower Capital, everyone is celebrating. Brook is playing music so good that you literally couldn't not dance to, Luffy is eating enough meat to make people start calling him a protein shake, Zoro is out drinking all the samurai, Nami is winning all the bets from Zoro drinking, Chopper and Carrot are going crazy from all the ninja that are at the party, Franky is currently rebuilding the Franky Shogun and giving it some seastone weapons, Robin is learning all of of the history of Wano and Oden from both the Wano historians and Yamato, Sanji is as always falling in love with every woman in the radius of his Observation Haki, and Jinbei is just enjoying the company of his new nakama.
All of the Strawhats were there, except one.
"God" Usopp was out training in the forest side of Kuri. He couldn't help himself. All of his nakama did something huge during the raid, whether it be taking down a tobi roppo, taking down a calamity, or killing Kaido. They all did something amazing like that. 'All I did was play baby sitter with Nami' He thought back to how Nami turned Zeus, one of Big Mom's biggest allies, against her, and to how Tama single handedly gave the alliance about 4000 more troops. Meanwhile, Usopp was just their bodyguard, 'and a terrible one at that' he thought as he remembered Ulti nearly killing Tama at the 1st floor balcony, and how he watched helplessly as she nearly killed him. Not only that, but they both managed to secure allies in the raid. Nami got Zeus, Tama got the gifters, and Usopp got nothing.
"Wow Nami! You and Tama are great at gathering allies!"
Usopp knew that he wasn't useless, he learned from his mistakes at Water 7. But he just couldn't help but think what he could've done better. After he got back from the Boin Archipelago, he thought he was strong. He actually thought he was telling Nami the truth when he said that he was no longer part of the weakling trio. Turns out he was wrong.
Which is why he's training right now. He's trying to reach Okobore town from the Kuri jungle with his Observation haki. That's about 10000 kilometres. Obviously something that won't happen, but that's the point. He's going to give himself an impossibly huge objective, inevitably fail, and see how far he actually got. Wash, rince, repeat. It's a simple cycle, but he feels like he's up for the challenge. Anything to help his nakama.
So, he reached out his Observation haki again for what felt like the hundredth time and tried to reach out to Okobore. Again, only about 5000 kilometres. Not bad by any means, but if he is going to be a sniper, then he's going to need Observation Haki that is much stronger than that.
And so, Usopp reached out his Observation haki once again. He was about to bring it back when he felt a presence at the beach of Kuri. 'Probably a civilian' he thought to himself, until he remembered how crowded the Flower Capital was. No way there would be a civilian out in deep Kuri while everyone else was out partying like it was the end of the world. So, he ran towards the beach a bit and activated his Observation Haki again. From what he could tell, it was a woman that was in her early twenties, and she had long hair and something on top of her head. From what Usopp could feel, the girl was unconscious.
Usopp pondered for a moment on what to do, before deciding to help her. As he got closer to the beach, he started to recognize that thing on her head. And when he got to the beach, he was surprised. Ulti of the Tobi Roppo, lying down unconscious and looking like shit. Not surprising, considering how she was not only beaten like a dog by Big Mom but also shocked by Nami. But still, when she wakes up, she'll probably want to kill the Strawhats and the samurai considering how she was as big of a Kaido fan as Yamato was of Oden as Usopp had come to learn over the last few days. So, Usopp had to do something about her. Thankfully, Usopp brought his satchel with him and grinned.
Ulti woke up to the sound of rain and fire. She tries to get up, but realizes she is wrapped in rope and can't feel her wrists. She then looks around to see that she was tied up in a cave with a man. "Oi! You! Get me out of here right now and I'll only bash your skull so much that you'll still live!" However, she got no response from him.
"Hey! I'm talking to you!" No response
"Oi!" Nothing
"Why you- I'm gonna kill you!" but right before she tried to go into her hybrid form, she got a response from him.
"I doubt you can do anything in that state right now. And don't try changing forms, I gave you seastone handcuffs." The man said to Ulti's annoyance.
"I don't need my devil fruit to kill you! My headbutts are still strong with haki!" Ulti yelled at him
"And yet you can't even reach me from here," the man said as he got up and took his cap off, "Now, bow in the presence of your god!"
"Aren't you that guy I beat earlier?" Ulti asks in a tone that was completely different from the one she used less than a minute ago.
When she said that, Usopp fell backwards in a comedic fall, "N-no I'm not! I'm a completely different Usopp than the one you headbutted in the back earlier!" Usopp said as he got back up and waved his hands constantly.
"How did you know I hit your back?"
"Of course I know, I'm still feeling it right now!"
A few seconds go by as he realizes his mistake. 'Dammit' he thinks as he puts his palm up to his face. Meanwhile, Ulti has to stifle her laughter before she fails and just chuckles at the liar's failings.
"So, 'god', would you mind telling me why I'm like this?"
"What ain't it obvious?" was Usopp's reply before Ulti shook her head. "Okay, fine. I found you out on Kuri's beach, tied you up, I was going to go to the Flower Capital and send you to jail before it started raining like hell. So, I figured to hunker down here until the rain stops." Usopp explains.
"What I meant was, why are you here and not in prison or dead with your crew?" Ulti clarifies, not believing for a second that the invincible Kaido could be defeated let alone killed.
'This is gonna be either awesome or terrifying' Usopp thought as he prepared himself for the inevitable outrage that's about to take place. 'Here goes'
"Kaido's dead"
.
.
.
Silence.
That was all that was heard in the cave as the rain dropping onto the jungle beside them and the fire crackling in front of them all but ceased to exist as Ulti seemingly couldn't comprehend what Usopp had just said for a minute until suddenly two words came from her mouth in a whisper, each striking Usopp like a haki infused sword cuts through an overconfident logia; "You're wrong"
"Look, I-"
"You're wrong" Ulti repeated, "You're wrong. You're wrong! YOU'RE WRONG!" She yelled out as she tried to wiggle out of her rope but to no avail.
'Welp, I guess I'm terrified' Usopp thought as he tried to calm her down but to no avail. So, he figured to just let her be mad and wait it out.
During her whole charade about how Kaido is/was "The greatest captain ever!" and how he "Would never lose to a squirt like Strawhat!" And then she said the saying "if it's a 1v1, ALWAYS bet on Kaido-sama" Usopp understood what Ulti was going through. When he lost his mother, all he could do was cry. And cry he did. So, Usopp gives Ulti time to herself and looks out the cave to watch the rain.
It's been an hour since Ulti had her meltdown, and Usopp finally built up the courage to talk to her again. "Hey." he says trying to get a response from her to no avail, "Look, I know you hate me because I helped kill Kaido, but can we at least talk?"
"He's not dead" was all he got from her.
'Figures I'd get that response from her.' Usopp thinks as he takes out his watch to check the time, it reading 10:30 pm. 'Has it really been an entire day since the raid started? Wait, when was the last time I slept?' Usopp thinks to himself as he decides it's time for dinner. He then took a pop green out of his bag and threw it on the ground, startling Ulti.
"What the hell are you doing you idiot?" Ulti asks as the pop green grows into a large flower with what seems to be meat coming out of the center. Usopp then moves to pick the meat out of the flower and digs into it.
"Eig" Usopp says in a muffled voice as he was currently munching down on the meat in his hand. Then he takes out another pop green and throws it her way. It erupts into another flower with the same piece of meat in the center. "Go on, you should eat it."
"Not like I can" Ulti says with venom in her tone as she gestures to her tied up body and cuffed hands.
Usopp sighs, "one sec," and searches his bag for something. After a bit, he finally finds what he's looking for, and throws the pop green out to her feet.
After a second, it starts to burst into smoke and Ulti fails to notice Usopp putting on a gas mask until it's too late, and she slips into unconsciousness after saying a few words in a low whisper, "You... bastard..."
Ulti woke up to find herself tied up but this time her hands were in front of her instead of behind her. Then she noticed Usopp looking out the cave entrance while eating his meat. 'I wonder if I can get the jump on him?' she thought as she moved slowly toward him.
"Wait you're up? I thought you'd at least be knocked out for twenty minutes. Turns out it was just ten." Usopp says as he looks back at Ulti, who was actually shocked that he sensed her.
'Does this shrimp know haki?' Ulti thought before shaking her head, 'No way, he would have used armament on his plants when we fought.' She then noticed the new flower with meat, 'Is this for me?'
"Don't worry, it's yours." Usopp says as he takes another bite out of his meat, "It's not poisoned or anything, Chopper would kill me if I poison anyone."
"Why?" was all Ulti could muster as she watched Usopp eat his meat in peace.
"Why what?"
"Why are you feeding your enemy?" Ulti asked him genuinely.
"Well, put simply," Ulti didn't know what to expect when he added in a few pauses, "My chef would kill me if I let a lady go starving."
It was at that moment that Ulti realized that Usopp was being honest. That she was safe.
"Say," Usopp starts as he realizes he needs something to pass the time until it stops raining, "do you want to hear the tale of how we killed god?"
'Yeah right' Ulti thought as she bit into her meat, 'As if god even exists.'
/./
"-and then, just as he was about to strike Nami down, Sanji got up and laughed! 'Sorry, but I was just about to ask you for a light'" Usopp exclaimed with his right hand in a pose where it mimicked Sanji's pose, "and you know what Enel said? 'You dare say that to a god?'" Usopp said in an over the top Enel impersonation.
"There's no way he actually did that!" Ulti said in between fits of laughter, "He couldn't actually have believed he was god!" Ulti tried to regain her composure, but failed miserably, once again turning into a laughing mess, "If he- if h-," Ulti paused herself for a bit, "if he actually came down to the New World, he would've died in his first week!" And again, Ulti started to laugh. Usopp then laughs with her, each of them comforting each other as they drink and eat as the night goes by.
Maybe this won't be as bad as she thought.
/./
"And so, Hody Jones challenged us to a great battle in the middle of the plaza. And there, we slowly but surely marched towards the troops that ranged within that of 100,000,000,000!" Usopp exclaims with his arms stretched as far as they could go to simulate the wideness of the army much to Ulti's active imagination already giving herself a nice depiction of it. "However, Luffy then stepped up, and used his conqueror's haki to wipe out 25,000,000,000 of them!" Usopp dramatically exclaimed with his arms stretched out again as Utli was beginning to suspect that was his thing. "Of course, I took out another 25,000,000,000 of them with my conqueror's haki." He slyly said.
"Yeah right. As if you have conqueror's." Ulti snarkily says. "He probably did everything himself."
"Well, I may have helped him out a little bit." Usopp sneakily says.
"Sure you did." Ulti deadpans. Soon enough though, she laughs as Usopp continues the story of Fishman Island.
Usopp checked his watch. It says 1:19. As Usopp looks out to the still raining outdoors, he makes a decision. "Let's sleep here."
"Hm? Why?" Ulti asks as she bit into her third meat stick of the night, "Here I thought you were going to send me to prison. Is it really just some pathetic rain you're scared of?"
Usopp turned to her, "It's not just the rain, it's also that it's 1 in the night. So," Usopp says as he stops the fire in the cave they were in, "I'm going to sleep. Feel free to sleep too."
And like that, the only person that's been around Ulti for the past 2 hours had fallen asleep, leaving Ulti completely alone with her thoughts.
Ulti knew she couldn't get out of this rope. The seastone cuffs on her hands aside, this rope is unnaturally tough to break through. Whenever she moved it tightened and she felt like it was moving around her like it was alive.
Not only that, but she doesn't know if she can kill this guy. Sure, he's an enemy and is going to take her to prison, but he also entertained her for the past two hours. He fed her too, something you don't normally do to prisoners. 'Killing him is up in the air, but I'm definitely killing that Straw Hat brat! How dare he say he'll be King of the Pirates! Besides, why am I thinking of sparing Usopp? If Straw Hat's his captain, then he deserves to die too.'
Even if she's thinking it, Ulti can't say she 100% believes those words. After he was so nice to her, after he fed her, can she really go with killing him? Ulti just can't decide what to do with him.
So, she thought about her current predicament. Currently, Ulti's in a cave with an enemy(?) who has her tied up and claims that the assassination attempt on her captain and father figure was succesful. 'Yeah right,' Ulti scoffed at the thought, 'as if the man who survived falling 100000 feet down the sky could die.'
Still, Ulti couldn't help but wonder why none of the Beast Pirates at least attempted to find her. Why wouldn't they? Because she might be dead and it's not a bother looking for her? Well Pay-Pay has her vivre card, so he should've found her by now. 'Unless...' She began to think.
'No way! My Pay-Pay would never die to some no name rookies who had trouble with Mingo of all people!' Ulti thought as she shakes her head repeatedly before her mood shifts into that of anger, 'He's probably just dozing off! And when his sister is missing! Why that little- I'll kill him!' she thinks before her mood changes back to her cheery self, 'Oh, he's probably sleeping because he spent all day looking for me!' she thinks before yet again changing into what the pleasures and waiters refer to as anger mode, 'If he's been looking for me all day, then why did that shrimp find me before you did Pay-Pay?' Ulti asks as if Page One was right in front of her. She then went back and forth between emotions thinking about what happened to Page One.
However, one thought still lingered on Ulti, 'Why hasn't anyone found me yet?'
With the exception of her brother, Ulti didn't expect any of the Tobi Roppo to look for her. She couldn't see any of the All Stars coming for her either. Not like any of them cared for her, and she couldn't give less of a shit about them.
Yet none of that was true when it came to Kaido. He cared for her and Page One. He took them in after their dad died. He raised her like the daughter he always wanted. So, why is Kaido not looking for her? Because she's expendable? No way. He may think that way about waiters, pleasures, and even some gifters, but no way in hell would Kaido think a member of the Tobi Roppo is expendable. Especially not his surrogate daughter.
So, again, Ulti asks herself the same question before she drifts off to sleep, 'Why hasn't anyone found me yet?'
Usopp woke up to see the rising sun, although just a small fragment of it, considering how the jungle and cave is covering him and his prisoner from the sun. Usopp checks his watch and sees it read 5:40. He decides now’s a good time to make breakfast. He actually talked to Sanji when they reunited after two years asking for him to infuse some of his meals into his pop greens. When asked why, Usopp just said “In case we’re on an island and Luffy suddenly wants food.” Honestly, how could Sanji not say no? And so, Usopp takes out one of his food pop greens and gets ready to eat.
It was the sound of the pop green that interrupted Ulti’s beauty sleep. Well, that and the smell of bacon and eggs. ‘Wait, you can make bacon with those things?’ Ulti thinks as she starts to get up, ‘I have to get my hands on those someday.’
“Well look who’s awake.” Usopp says as he notices Ulti with what she now definitely knows is his observation haki, “One sec, lemme get you some of that as well” Usopp says as he rumages through his bag looking for another kind of the pop green. After a bit, he finds it and throws it on the ground a few feet in front of Ulti. “Dig in.” He says as he goes to town on his breakfast.
Ulti was hesitant at first, but her rumbling stomach got the better of her and she proceeded to eat. It tasted amazing. Like the god of cooking had graced her mouth. She was silent the entire time she and Usopp ate together.
It was 6:57 when Usopp decided to lighten the mood and tell one of his stories as he and Ulti were walking through the Kuri jungle. He was telling her about Thriller Bark and how he, Nami, and Chopper went in solo and survived.
“And just as we got to the gate, a three headed dog came out viciously against us!” Usopp says in an exaggerated tone as he did his trademark move where he stretched out his arms. Ulti, meanwhile, wasn’t believing him for a second.
“Yeah right. What’s next, the dog has a personality for each head and they finish each other's sentences?”
“Well, you’re half right. Turns out, they all were different dogs that were stitched together for some dumb experiment.” Usopp explains noticing that Ulti isn’t buying any of it for a second, so he decides to say other things from Thriller Bark that he knew Ulti wouldn’t buy, “And don’t even get me started on the zombies!” Again, only a deadpan from his prisoner.
“Yeah, and pigs fly.”
Usopp then smirked, “Actually, the same guy who made the zombies and three headed dog actually made a flying pig.” Then Ulti realized that Usopp was being completely serious.
THAT got a reaction from Ulti, “Wait zombies are real?!?” she asked as the rope around her tightened from her sudden excitement, “That’s amazing! I’ve always wanted to meet one! Do they really eat brains? Are they really dumb? What’s their weakness? Are they the same person as before or are they completely different?” Ulti rampantly and excitedly asked.
“No, they don’t really eat anything. They are actually revived with the Kage-Kage no mi. They need a shadow from another person to come to life, and they can only be as strong as they were if they had an equally strong shadow. They’re about as smart as their stolen shadow, so I guess some were dumb and some were smart. They just have to swallow salt and their shadows leave their bodies. And no, zombies take the personalities of their shadows. Actually, Zoro fought Ryuma because he had Brook’s shadow.”
“Wait, THE Ryuma? Like, Holder of Shusui Ryuma? Protector of Wano Ryuma?” Ulti incredulously asks, “a guy with only a 100 million berry bounty beat the Sword God?”
“Well, not necessarily the Sword God himself. Remember, zombies can only be as strong as their shadow. Since Moria stole Brook’s shadow, Ryuma was a lot weaker than he should’ve been. Not only that, but Brook was more of a fencer than a samurai. So, Ryuma couldn’t fight to his full potential and he was using a sword style that didn’t match up with Shusui.” Usopp said as he remembered Zoro secretly telling Brook about his fight with Ryuma.
“Anyways, that’s not even the best part!” Usopp says as he hypes up his big moment.
“Oh? And what could that be?” Ulti asks with stars in her eyes as she looks towards Usopp, anticipating what’s going to come next.
“How about how I stopped the ghosts that made others depressed by being depressed myself!” Usopp dramatically exclaims as he does his signature move.
“Okay, the zombies I believe, but there’s no way you beat the ghosts because you were too depressed.” Ulti deadpans in the mood shift that Usopp had come to expect by this point.
‘Yeah, I guess me beating anyone sounds pretty dumb.’ Usopp thinks as he comes up with a lie.
“Okay, okay, you got me. The person who actually beat her was Franky!” Usopp then proceeds to lie about how Franky built a staircase to get to Perona’s room and punch her when he got there.
It was 7:28 when they got out of the jungle and into the desert. After a bit of walking, they make a pit stop at Okobore Town. Or at least, what’s left of it. “Wait,” Ulti says as she thinks about why she remembers this town. ‘THAT’S IT!’ She realizes, “This was the home of that brat who made the dangos!” Ulti says in anger, not realizing that she’s speaking out loud, “Looks like she got what was coming to her!”
It was only after the glare from Usopp that Ulti realized she said that out loud. “You’re lucky I’m respecting Sanji’s rules on never leaving a lady hungry.” Was all he said before he pulled out two pop greens and threw them right next to the two, “Now eat” he said with enough venom in his breath that could make Wano rivers look clean by comparison.
They were silent the whole time they ate, Usopp never taking his piercing eyes off Ulti.
It was 30 minutes after they left Okobore Town when Usopp went to the washroom that Ulti realized that this was probably her only chance to make a run for it. No way was she going to let Usopp just take her to jail. So, she made a break for it.
When Usopp noticed his new invention tugging at him, and two figures his observation haki picked up, he looked over the rock to see Ulti running away. ‘Does she really think it’s that easy?’ he thinks as he tugs the rope tied to his left arm. Immediately, the rope came reeling back towards Usopp with Ulti screaming as she suddenly got pulled back to the rock.
“Like my new invention? I modified this rope with a mix of pop greens that make it reach to lengths around 120 meters long! Not only that, but if I feed it enough pop greens, it can reach lengths that are at least 10 times that. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.” Usopp gloats as Ulti couldn’t move because the rope kept tightening around her. “Now, time to get back to the Flower Capital. Can’t hold you here forever.”
“When Pay-Pay finds me, you’re going to wish you let me go.” Ulti angrily replied as she tried and failed to break free from the rope.
“Pretty sure he’s in jail too.” Usopp casually replies.
Ulti huffs, “As if any petty jail cell can down my Pay-Pay! When we get to the Flower Capital, it’ll probably be burned to the ground!”
“Really? Cause last time I checked, the Capital was full of people drinking and partying. Hell, I think they’re still going!” Usopp smugly says. It was at that moment that Ulti felt a presence rising in the distance of her observation haki. She figured Usopp must’ve felt it too, because he suddenly tensed up.
‘Dammit. I hoped it wasn’t coming this way.’ Usopp thought as he tied Ulti down to a nearby boulder. As he pulled Kuro Kabuto out from his hip, he couldn’t stop his hands from shaking as he extended Kabuto’s length and loaded some Green Stars into the pouch.
As the beast came out of the horizon, Usopp could see that it was a wanizame, a crocodile shark. It was approaching fast, and Usopp could feel the bloodlust coming towards him. From the looks of things, it was coming for food. And Usopp knew who its prey was.
‘Just calm down Usopp.’ He thinks as he aims his shots at the approaching beast, ‘You are brave. You are strong. You’ve been strong since you got back from that hell.’ He remembers his nights in the Boin Archipelago. How he had to climb from mountain to mountain to find different pop greens. How he had to keep his eyes open at all times to dodge Devil plants. How he had to train like hell for two years straight to finally be strong for his nakama.
He aims Kuro Kabuto right in front of where the beast will be with the help from his observation haki. He takes a deep breath, breathes out, and fires.
“Green Star: Devil Garden!”
And six venus flytraps spring up around the wanizame as it tries to bite through them. Big mistake, as that just angers the now massive and hungry venus flytrap. Soon enough, it begins to return the favor with the help of it’s brothers.
“IT WORKED! IT ACTUALLY WORKED! YES! I KNEW I WAS STRONG!” Usopp yelled out in satisfaction as his Devils go to town on the recently-turned-prey predator. As that was happening, Usopp was too distracted to notice Ulti turning her back to him and placing her foot on the boulder she’s currently tied to.
Ulti knew she had to get free. She doesn’t believe Usopp is telling her the truth that Kaido’s dead and that all of the Beast pirates are captured or dead. There were probably some stragglers like her out in Wano. She just needed a way to get out of these handcuffs, and she’ll just turn into her full form to get out of this stupid rope. Fortunately, the opportunity to run has just presented itself to her.
Believe it or not, Ulti is actually pretty smart. The entire reason why she and Page One rose through the ranks of the Beast pirates was because she was smart enough to steal two ancient zoans from the treasure room. She knew their rules. Survival of the Fittest. So, if they each got two devil fruits from one of the strongest categories, they’ll be able to live. Ulti also has strong armament haki. In fact, when it comes to pure power, Ulti’s armament haki is the strongest out of all the Tobi Roppo. Ulti is also really resourceful, being able to use whatever is around her to her advantage. Case in point, Usopp, a boulder, and her armament haki.
As Usopp was busy celebrating his victory, Ulti was currently using her foot to charge the boulder in front of her with armament haki. Then, she raises her wrists up, and smashes them on the stone.
*SMASH*
Usopp turns around, and sees a now seastone free Ulti transforming into her hybrid form, breaking free from the rope. “AHHH!” Usopp panics as he looks into his bag frantically searching for his pop greens. ‘WhereisitWhereisitWhereisit’ he frantically thought.
“YOU” Ulti says in an angry tone as she charges her head with enough haki to hurt Usopp.
‘Found it!’ Usopp thinks as he finds his pop green stash. Just then, Ulti charges at him aiming for a headbutt. At the same time, Usopp takes out a specific pop green.
“Ulti Mortar!” she aims for his chest
“Green Star: Trampoline!”
Just as Ulti’s head nearly meets Usopp’s hand, a flower blooms out of his hand and an elastic-like substance meets Ulti’s head, bouncing her back to the ground. ‘What the hell? How did it stop my armament haki?’ she thinks before she gets off the ground, before noticing Usopp has his slingshot loaded behind a bamboo.
‘So this is going to be a standoff?’ Ulti thinks as she remembers how she would’ve lost to Usopp if it wasn’t for Page One tearing the venus flytrap off of her back on Onigashima. ‘All he has to do is shoot me before I get to him, and I win.’ Easier said than done, considering how fast Usopp can shoot his pop greens. ‘And to make things worse, his armament might be as strong as mine.’ She thinks as she looks at the flower in front of her. ‘Is his haki stronger than mine? Maybe I’m just overthinking things and that flower just got the jump on me?’
Usopp then moves out of the flower and aims at Ulti, ‘Here goes nothing’
“Green Star: Devil!”
The pop green lands right where Ulti was before she was dashing towards Usopp, head charged with haki. Little did he know, she thought this would be enough to hurt him but not kill him. As payment for helping her.
“Ulti Mortar!”
Usopp braces himself for the incoming hit. His skull still hasn’t healed since Ulti smashed her head into it in Onigashima, so he’ll probably die from this. ‘Guess I’m not strong.’
Usopp remembered his entire life. How his mom died when he was young, how he met Kaya and told her stories he made up, how he met his crew and how they protected his home from Kuro, how he joined the Strawhat pirates and his life changed for good, how they entered the Grand Line and met Laboon, how he met Dorry and Broggy, how he left the crew because of what happened to Merry, how he burned the World Government’s flag at Enies Lobby, how he got separated from his nakama when Kuma came to Sabaody, how he trained like hell in the Boin Archipelago, how he and his nakama entered the New World, how he became a god to the Tontatta tribe, and how he and his nakama raided Onigashima.
‘I regret nothing’
.
.
.
‘Why am I not dead?’
Once Usopp opened his eyes, he could see that Ulti was trapped by a pair of green teeth. ‘Devil!’ he thought as he looked down to see the rest of the root coming out of the ground.
Usopp began laughing like a maniac. He thought he was dead! He actually did. ‘I’M THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE!’ he thought as he knew that no one could be as lucky as he is.
Meanwhile, on Elbaf, a certain red nosed pirate was talking to a certain red haired pirate when suddenly the red nosed one sneezed, cursing out anyone who was thinking of him.
“Now,” Usopp says looking to Ulti, “time to re-tie you.”
“Keep praying! Once I break free again, I’m going to offer your head to Kaido-sama!” Ulti bluffed, “But that’s before I kill your nakama!”
And with that, Usopp finally had enough and snapped, “When will you accept that Kaido is dead!” Usopp says with a raised voice at Ulti. “He was beaten up by Luffy, and dragged and dropped down to Mt Fujiyama where he was burned alive in a volcano! HE. IS. DEAD!”
And with that, Ulti was silent for the first time in a while.
The sun was setting as Usopp prepared some things to use for a makeshift bed. Meanwhile, Ulti was just sitting at the corner, new seastone cuffs on her wrists, even tighter rope tied to her, looking down.
Ulti knew she should’ve died. She really should be dead. Usopp could’ve left her in that plant’s mouth and just ran away and no one would’ve been the wiser. And yet he saved her. He already saved her when she was left for dead on the beach of Kuri, hell he even fed her and kept her entertained with some stories of his adventures. So, when she was going to headbutt him, she was going to make sure to weaken her haki to make sure he lives. It’s the least she could do.
But Ulti got caught by Usopp’s plants. She knew this was going to be the end. She made her attack look like she was going to kill him to get him to back off. Turns out, he won’t need to.
And yet, Ulti is alive. Usopp chose to let her live. Even after he went on his little tirade about how Kaido’s dead. As she was offered some meat from a pop green, she was just left with one question in her head.
“Why?” She mumbled, Usopp only barely hearing her.
“Why what?” Usopp said, getting the sense of Deja Vu.
“Why are you feeding me?” Ulti asked with tears in her eyes.
“I already told you, my chef wouldn’t let a woman go hungry, and neither will I.” Usopp said with confidence in his voice.
“But after all I did to you!” Ulti said in a half pleading, half questioning tone, “After I nearly killed you and that red haired girl back on Onigashima, after breaking your head, after trying to run from you twice today, and after I tried to knock you out a few hours ago!” Ulti said as Usopp perked up at the last bit, “Why are you letting me live?”
“Wait, what was that last one?” Usopp asked Ulti as he gave her his full undivided attention.
“Do you mean how I was going to knock you out?” Ulti asks, “What? Do you think I was actually going to kill you after how you treated me? You fed me, kept me company, hell you even patched me up. Not killing you is the least I could do.”
“What are you talking about? I thought I was dead back there. You easily would have killed me if my Devil didn’t save me.” Usopp sincerely says.
“But you could’ve just used your armament haki against the attack! I gave you plenty of time to react.” Ulti points out.
“Why do you think I have Armament haki?” Usopp asks Ulti as she realizes something important. For whatever reason, Usopp can’t use armament haki.
“Why do you not know haki? Your captain is Yonko level and he never thought about teaching you haki?” Ulti asks Usopp with a look of genuine confusion, “You’d think he would at least unlock it for you.”
Usopp prepared to argue with her, until he realized that Ulti was actually right. ‘Why hasn’t Luffy at least unlocked our haki?’
Ulti notices Usopp thinking over her question. Then she remembers back to the night before, how he made her laugh even when she was grieving, how he fed her even though she’s his enemy, and how he patched up her wounds when he didn’t need to.
Ulti sighs, ‘I can’t kill him.’ she admits, ‘I just can’t bring myself to do it.’ Ulti then looks to Usopp, and comes up with an idea, ‘but I can thank him.’
“Usopp,” Ulti starts, “I want to thank you for letting me live.”
“Where are you going with this?” Usopp asks, not knowing where this is going in the slightest.
“I’m going to teach you armament haki.” Ulti says with firmness in her voice.
It took Usopp a second to understand what she said. Him? Armament? It sounds too good to be true!
“What’s the catch?”
Ulti then sighs, “I want you to release me from this rope and shackles and release Pay-Pay from jail, and,” Ulti readies herself, “And let me visit Kaido-sama’s grave.”
Usopp thinks for a moment, before accepting, “Alright, I can get you to Mt Fujiyama, but I don’t know if Page One is alive. Knowing Wano, he’s probably alive just so they can execute him later.” Usopp explains.
“That’s fine, Pay-Pay is alive.” Ulti says like it’s a fact before thinking, ‘He has to be’
Usopp then loosens the rope around Ulti, untying her and taking off her seastone handcuffs. He then reaches his hand out in front of her, “Partners?”
“More like student and teacher.” Ulti says as she takes his hand and gets up. “Now come on, we’ll start tomorrow morning.”

One Piece Chapter 1056 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
So we are back again reaching the ending stages of Wano
There's still stuff to wrap up though, so let's get to it
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
We return with the Vinsmokes and there's Katakuri!
We return to the fallout of the Admiral attack, seems Shinobu was got too, but both she and Raizo are alive so Kaido's crew likely are too
Kin'emon regrets not being there, but is smitten that he got to spend time with Tsuru
Poor girl got a burn on her face, but other than that she's fine and wants to return to the capital
Finally a proper panel of Carrot
And, she's being made the new leader of Zou, and I don't quite agree with that (I will explain at the end)
So, Inu and Neko are planning to stay in Wano, and they're using Carrot's experience with the crew as a reason to put a 15 year old in charge of an ancient civilization
Carrot does make the point as well that there are more qualified people, including Wanda
They pull the Pedro card too, even though Pedro's will was to help Luffy get to the Dawn
Sukiyaki does indeed reveal himself to Momo and Hiyori
But the kids embrace him, thankful that they still have family
The Akazaya all knew as well...except Kin'emon but he'll play it cool
Seems Sukiyaki wants to lore dump but then resume as a commoner
Back with the crew and it's discussing the Pluton stuff
Luffy doesn't want it, but Franky is a little curious
Shinobu and Tama then appear, the former with a youthful appearance
Seems she's still recovering and that's what makes her look young and skinny
Tama's gonna be her apprentice, but does note she would like to travel with Luffy when she gets stronger
Caribou no! You had a change of heart remember don't sully it!
It is dangerous that he now knows about two ancient weapons
A few days pass and Momo's already getting a little stoic about the reparation plans
But the crew have already done their patented 'leave without saying goodbye to the major players' shtick
Momo and Kin'emon of course will not allow them to leave without saying bye to them specifically, and lucky for them they are delayed
See the three captains are arguing, planning on going their separate ways by sailing to separate islands
But Kid and Luffy want to go to the same island, they draw straws and Luffy loses
Law is going in the straight path, noting how the alliance is over, Luffy is forced into going the shortest distance, despite his claims for Yonko leeway
Buggy's Yonko promotion is validated though, he had formed the 'Cross Guild', with his two commanders: Crocodile and Mihawk!
Of course, there's gonna be more than what meets the eye, Zoro does feel like Mihawk wouldn't bow to anyone anyway, Crocodile is certainly not the take orders type either
When Monkey 'Got eaten by a snake and thought it was a cave, was going to write his own name while undercover to enter a tournament, punches people while holding an infamous cursed sword' D. Luffy calls you a moron you best believe you must be a moron
Seems Buggy is also putting bounties on Marines, which I guess does level the playing field but I swear if you touch the good marines there will be words; leave Smoker, Tashigi, T-Bone, Jonathon (make him canon Oda), Coby, Helmeppo, Fujitora and Drake alone! I doubt there's bounties for Garp though because even Buggy can't be that foolish
The trio seem to depart similarly to how they departed on Sabaody, Kid at least reminding Luffy that they're rivals when they leave the island
Law also gives Kid an etching of the Road Poneglyph since they all earned it equally
Kid seems to be setting his sights on a new target too: the Man Marked With Flames
I feel like this is Sabo, given the Translator's note, but it could be someone else entirely
Law and Robin seem to know, but Luffy and the audience do not
Yamato though is still on the roof, deciding to set off and live like Oden did
So this was a bittersweet chapter for me, lots of things coming to an end definitively.
We'll start of course with Carrot. You should know by now that I was very Carrot4Nakama, and still am, so it hurts that Oda would potentially rush her conclusion. It feels weak, and contradictory; Inu and Neko are staying in Wano to better protect it - the very thing Momo was trying to prove so people wouldn't be compelled to stay - but at the same time they are now leaving Zou in the hands of the musketeers who are proven to struggle against below-Yonko Commander strength, it feels counter-productive. In addition, it feels like Wanda is gonna be the one actually calling the shots, given how Carrot is still 15 and unlike Momo has never expressed the desire to lead Zou. And they are going to get invaders, because they have a Road Poneglyph, all it takes is one treacherous Mink or a vivre card to undermine Inu and Neko's reason of staying. Plus Zunesha bends to Momo's will anyway, so even if you lead the kingdom Momo is in the driver's seat for Zou anyway too. Don't get me wrong, leading Zou would've been a nice endgame for Carrot, but not right now, she needed a lot more time to grow that desire and the qualities of a leader to earn that outcome, being handed it right now just felt a little lazy. In that same vein though, as hugely unlikely as it may be, Oda may still swerve us and have Carrot stow away again anyway, it does feel like there's more adventure in her as well as room to mature, and as I said Pedro's will was oriented around helping the Straw Hats to the Dawn, if Carrot has that will 'more than anyone' it's better suited for Carrot to do an Oden-like move and journey with the Straw Hats first before ruling Zou. Unlikely? Probably, Denial? No Comment, but for me this does not feel satisfying to conclude Carrot's character this way.
I do feel a little bit blueballed by Pluton now too, we could at least have seen it, but I guess a time will come now that Caribou knows, I had hope for you man! You had a heart in the cover story but now you're going back to old ways. We're still yet to get any info on Zoro's heritage or the fact that Sea Prism is made in Wano, these feel like important stuff. What happened with Kaido and Big Mom too?
And another sad ending comes with the end of the Alliance, Law is setting off on his own, to find out about the D via Poneglyphs...which only 2 known people alive know how to read (does Kid have someone who can read it? Seems like he might). It's a sore spot because of how long we've spent and grown attached to Law to see him depart, but like the Ancient Weapons they'll probably show up later down the line. As for Kid, he drops a hint for the 'Man Marked With Flames' but we'll have to see who that is.
His important lore drop is Buggy, pulling a near-mirror image alliance that Luffy did by using Crocodile and Mihawk. There has to be some explanation on why they're paired up, likely out of convenience, but it at least validates his position and sets up a new endgame threat; the Straw Hats will have to fight the Cross Guild if Zoro is to defeat Mihawk, it'd be interesting if the Cross Guild included other pirates from the Paradise Saga: Krieg (and Ghin), Morgan, Kuro, Foxy, maybe Moria if he's not with/killed by Blackbeard, they don't have to be threats but it'd be a cool 'full circle' kinda thing. Overall I'm just glad Crocodile's back in the game.
Which leads us finally to Yamato, he's only at the end of the chapter but there has to be some nerves from fandom right? Luffy has never intended to leave an island without Nakama, he waited for Nami, Vivi, and Usopp (x2), and he chased down Chopper and Franky, it seems they really were going to leave without him, but stuff remains to be seen, Yamato at the least seems to want to go with Luffy but again, that doesn't automatically entitle you to Nakama. I'd also like to note this parallel with Carrot being bestowed a responsibility to rule she doesn't want, if she does stay to rule Zou it's hypocritical that she has to do that while pushing for Yamato to live free from responsibility to rule when he was named Shogun by Kaido.
Overall it was a good chapter, but I didn't vibe with it as much because of some potential to likely directions I don't at the current moment feel right about, it would seem we'll leave Wano next chapter which is sad too because it did feel like we had a mountain left to uncover.
Much to wrap up, but we know Oda will finish strong.

The fantastic adventures of Takeru Takaishi
Summary: As the aspiring writer of a soon-to-be-classic novel, Takeru goes back to Ishida Farm, in hopes that a bucolic life with his brother would provide the inspiration he needed. He meets Sora and wonders what kind of relationship she has with Yamato. When a “demon” digs its way out of the soil, Takeru gets new book ideas. {AU} {Sorato}
Chapter 1: The demon
The ship that had brought him from the Old Continent had taken nearly two months to complete the journey to Turtle Island, as expected. Takeru had sent letters to his brother, asking Yamato to wait for him at the port, but he didn’t show up. With no other option, Takeru requested a cab to take him to Ishida Farm. However, nobody paid him attention.
Or almost nobody.
A young lady with orange hair and reddish eyes offered him a ride on her cart, which was attached to a beautiful brown horse. Takeru found amusing how that woman was wearing pants, boots and a large yellow shirt. Back in the Old Continent, he had never seen a lady wearing something other than long puffy dresses or, at least, long rounded skirts with buttoned shirts. The fashion of the colonies should be different.
“My name is Sora. Nice to meet you!” She greeted while helping him to put the luggage on the cart. “You’re not from around here, are you? I mean… your clothes…”
“Oh, yeah! I bet you don’t see high fashion from the Old Continent every day!” Takeru exclaimed. He could only imagine how much of an effect his lustrous black boots and the linen suit he was wearing could have on people who had never experimented the finest things in the world. As courtesy, he posed to her, letting Sora admire his elegant form for as long as she desired. Takeru even tipped his fedora, knowing how much that act increased his natural charm.
“So… are you coming to the cart or…?” Sora asked. Shockingly, she didn’t seem too impressed by him.
“Yes, of course! I need to go to Ishida Farm! My name is Takeru Takaishi, by the way!” Takeru said, trying to get on the cart. He failed on the task, which made Sora help him.
“You have quite strong arms for a lady,” Takeru praised, after being pulled into the vehicle.
“Thanks. But, to be honest, you happen to be very light.”
Takeru blushed.
“Well, you see, I weight as much as any other man from the Old Continent. I’m also an intellectual, I don’t really do labor work. But if you could measure my capabilities with a pen, I’m sure you would find them quite remarkable. You see, I’m about to write the greatest novel of the century, ought to become a classic. Therefore, I came to the bucolic environment of my infancy to seek the right inspiration.”
“The way you speak is so cute!” Sora giggled. “From what I understood, you’re an aspiring writer and you’re here to be inspired by your family’s farm. Oh, wait! Yamato has told me about his little brother and his mother living in the Old Continent! It’s you, isn’t it?”
“Oh, so my brother has talked about me?” Takeru was surprised.
“He talks about you all the time!” Sora told him. “Yamato showed me some of your letters, with your short stories.”
“I can’t imagine my brother showing personal letters to anyone. Since he was a kid, he has always been the broody, solitary type,” Takeru commented. “He would have to be really close to someone to do that…”
Takeru observed Sora’s cheeks getting pink and knew there was something up. However, Yamato’s personal relationships weren’t his most pressing concern, despite how amusing it would be to tease his brother about them.
“Why didn’t Yamato come to pick me up?”
“That is strange,” Sora said in a concerned voice. “Something must’ve happened!”
In about 30 minutes, they arrived at the farm. It seemed smaller and dirtier than Takeru remembered from his childhood. The wooden house behind the vegetable garden was old and in need of repairs on the roof. Standing on the porch, there was a blond and bearded young man pointing a shotgun to the front door. It took a couple of minutes for Takeru to realize that the tall and muscular individual was his big brother.
“Yamato! What’s the matter?” Sora asked, jumping from the cart and running towards him. Yamato immediately turned to her, while putting the shotgun down.
“Sora, you have to go away, it’s dangerous!” Yamato told her.
“If you’re in danger, then I must stay by your side!” Sora stated, pulling a knife from her belt, which had been hidden by her shirt.
“YOU WERE CARRYING A KNIFE WITH YOU THIS WHOLE TIME?!” Takeru shouted, getting out of the cart. Yamato and Sora stared at him.
“Takeru?” Yamato muttered as his eyes shone with tears. “Is that really you?”
“Yes, it is I, Takeru Takaishi!” Takeru announced. “The brother you haven’t seen in person for more than 12 years and, yet, you forgot to pick up upon his arrival!”
“I didn’t forget to pick you up, something more urgent happened,” Yamato told him.
“What could possibly be more important than picking me up?” Takeru asked.
Yamato pointed to the vegetable garden, where a hole was visible among the carrots, some of which lay on the soil.
“I was tending the carrots when a demon crawled out of the dirt,” Yamato told the others. “A horrible creature that seemed to be made of mud itself… it’s inside the house now!”
“A demon?!” Sora gasped.
“Demons don’t actually exist!” Takeru stated.
“I know what I saw!” Yamato raised his voice. “A creature from Hell came out of the soil, stared at me with eyes as dark as the night and told me, in a horrifying hoarse voice… ‘could you please let me use your bathroom and lend me some spare clothes?'”
Sora and Takeru exchanged confused looks.
“I didn’t know demons could be so polite…” Takeru murmured, muffling a smirk.
“Then, you actually let the demon use your bathroom and wear your clothes?” Sora asked, raising an eyebrow.
“What was I supposed to do? Say no to that abomination from Hell? It could’ve cursed me!” Yamato said, anxiously holding one of his suspenders.
“I actually think it was a good idea to be kind to the demon,” Sora told him, showing Yamato a reassuring smile. “Having a supernatural creature owning you a favor could be good for our cause.”
“Cause? What cause?” Takeru asked. “What are you talking about?”
“Ehhrrrr… n-never mind that!” Sora stuttered, exchanging nervous looks with Yamato.
These two are hiding something from me! Takeru thought. Something other than their budding romance!
Suddenly, the knob on the front door began to move. Yamato, once again, pointed the shotgun at the door. Sora had her knife at hand. Takeru didn’t know what to do, therefore he stood behind to give moral support if necessary.
As an intellectual, Takeru shouldn’t believe in demons. However, he knew his brother wouldn’t make up such a story. Besides, a part of him found the possibility of encountering a supernatural creature exciting. That could be what his soon-to-be-classic novel would be about! Fantasy tales were popular, after all! Better than writing boring stories about a farm! An idea for the title emerged in his head: The fantastic adventures of Takeru Takaishi!
Once the door was open, the creature at the other side did not live up to the expectations Yamato had created. The so-called demon was a young man with red hair, thick eyebrows and black eyes wearing identical brown pants, white shirt and suspenders to the ones Yamato had, with the difference that those clothes were clearly too large for the stranger.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Yamato! Now that I’ve cleaned myself, I feel actually alive again!” The young man said, slightly bowing to Yamato.
“I’m a bit confused…” Sora whispered in Yamato’s ear, “is the demon possessing him?”
“I’m not a demon,” the other corrected, looking into the young woman’s eyes. “People might call me that, but that’s not what I am. My name is Koushiro. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Sora!”
“How do you know her name, demon?” Yamato inquired, making the shotgun almost touch Koushiro’s face. “Are you planning something wicked involving her? If you even think on touching a single hair of Sora’s head, I will send you back to Hell myself!”
“Again, I’m not a demon, my name is Koushiro,” the other said, taking a step back. “I learned her name the same way I learned yours. You could think of it as a kind of special power I have.”
“A demonic power! I knew it!” Yamato nearly yelled.
“Yamato, please, stop bothering him,” Sora requested. “Koushiro keeps saying he’s not a demon. Stop calling him that.”
“Yes, big brother, stop it!” Takeru said. “There are more important matters we have to discuss, such as…” he got closer to Koushiro “how long were you buried in the soil? Why were you there? How did you survive?”
“How long… well… what year is this?” Koushiro asked.
“The year of 1892 after the ascension of the Goddess,” Takeru replied.
“Then, that means that I stayed buried for 52 years,” Koushiro said.
“52 years?! You don’t look like you’re more than 20 years old!” Sora was astonished.
“Oh, I’m way older than that, actually,” Koushiro told her.
“Are you saying that you’re immortal?” Takeru inquired. “Is that how you stayed alive all this time under the vegetable garden?”
“I wasn’t alive,” Koushiro explained. “I was shot to death 52 years ago and then my corpse was buried. I only came back to life today and had to dig my way out of the soil. By the way, sorry if I startled you, Mr. Yamato.”
“There was a corpse under my vegetable garden… for 52 years…?” Yamato muttered, terrified. “And then you just… came back to life…?”
“With the due respect, Koushiro, you don’t seem too shaken for someone who just resurrected,” Takeru commented. “That’s especially odd, considering that I’ve never heard of anyone coming back to life in the history of the world.”
“I’ve been dying and coming back to life for a really long time now,” Koushiro told him. “Honestly, this last death wasn’t as bad compared to the other ones I had.”
“Are you telling me that you’ve had many horrifying deaths? That’s fascinating! Tell me everything!” Takeru asked. “Your life sounds like an exciting horror story! Yes! I shall call the first chapter of my book 'The demon!'”
“I thought we had agreed not to call him that anymore,” Sora commented.
“Maybe we could discuss that later, Mr. Takeru,” Koushiro said, turning his attention to Sora. “There’s something more important right now. Miss Sora, your mother and allies are in grave danger. Yamanaka’s forces are preparing to ambush their camp this night.”
“What?!” Sora and Yamato said at the same time.
“Yamanaka? Isn’t that the name of the Lord appointed by the Emperor himself to guard Turtle Island?” Takeru questioned. “Why would such a remarkable person ambush anyone?”
“Hey, Takeru, don’t defend that guy!” Yamato scolded his brother. “Old man Yamanaka has been exploiting the poor people of this island for decades! We’ve been fighting against his oppression!”
“W-Wait a second…” Takeru was getting increasingly nervous, “i-if you’re opposing someone appointed by the Emperor, doesn’t that mean you’re opposing the Emperor…? If you’re opposing the Emperor, that makes you…”
Sora exchanged a long look with Yamato. Then, she approached Takeru and gently touched his shoulder. She showed him a warm smile and let him know:
“We’re called many terrible things by the Empire, but what we call ourselves is revolutionaries.”
“My own big brother… a subversive… a traitor to the Empire…” Takeru murmured, “it can’t be! I can never accept this!”
“Takeru, you have to understand!” Yamato tried to reach him. “You were raised in privilege, so you don’t know, but there are countless people around the world suffering because of the Empire! We’re fighting to help those people!”
“My mother and I don’t always agree on things…” Sora muttered, looking down, “but she’s fighting for the sake of the oppressed! I can’t let her and the others get ambushed! We must go and help them!”
“Y-You can’t expect me to simply cast aside everything I’ve learned to this day to follow you into a revolutionary camp!” Takeru stated.
Koushiro approached Takeru and told him:
“You know? Once the revolution is victorious and the Empire falls, I bet many people would like to read a book about how it all happened. The author of such a book would be famous in the entire planet.”
“Hey! Leave my brother alone, demon!” Yamato hissed. “Takeru needs time to adjust his whole understanding of the world!”
“I see… I see… I can see it all now!” Takeru exclaimed. “An oppressive regimen, dashing heroes and their love story, the unlikely contribution of an actual demon! Oh! Everybody is going to want to read a book with all these elements! Let’s go to the revolutionary camp, at once! Off to chapter 2: Daughter of the revolution!”
“Daughter? Wait, is that going to be about me?” Sora asked.
“What was that talk about love story? Whose love story is that?” Yamato inquired, blushing.
“How many times will I have to tell you that I’m not a demon?” Koushiro questioned.
While Sora prepared her horse, Yamato led Takeru and Koushiro to the stable to get three more animals. As the sun hid behind a cloud, the sound of bells entered their ears. They knew that sound came from the chapel in the village.
Koushiro gazed at the hills on the horizon, thinking about the last encounter he had with that person, knowing that he was still around, waiting for him.

My secret santa gift for @a-lesnikova I hope you enjoy and had a merry Christmas and happy new year!!
It's a shock what a single spar had lead to, but when life gives you chocolates or something. He'd been training in building five with Yamato again when the guard had come over and asked him if he'd spar with a special inmate, that inmate happened to be Musashi responsible for the incident at the new years festival a few years ago. He wasn't such a bad guy though, and after the spar while the two was relaxing they had a rather nice talk.
That was a while ago, it had been a few months now and it was around Christmas once more. Tsukumo hadn't gotten a lot of money but he'd gotten enough to get two hard plastic shot glasses and a half a gallon of eggnog. He was sure Musashi would of liked something alcoholic but as inmates they weren't allowed to drink.
Yamato was currently guiding Tsukumo to building five, the guard had become like a father he'd never had. The former actor wore his usual mask, appearing as a ninja as usual but over his normal attire he wore a Christmas sweater, a gift from Yamato. As they reached they cell Kenshirou was already standing there, waiting. The dog guard gave them a silent greeting before unlocking Musashi's cell to allow Tsukumo inside.
"Hey~ I was starting to wonder if you were ever coming." A laid back, playfully voice spoke from the back corner of the cell called as the door closed and locked. Tsukumo smiled, reaching up and pulled down his mask, striding over to Musashi. "You'll forgive me, it took me a minute to get to the kitchen and get our treat." he said, noticing Musashi perk up a bit. "You didn't?" "Apologizes, we're not allowed alcohol. It's just eggnog. But I brought some shot glasses so maybe you can pretend." "Dang....here I'd hoped." Musashi said, seeming to calm down a bit as Tsukumo finished his walk to him, getting down in front of him. Musashi couldn't see him but he could sense him, feel his warmth and smell him.
The blind inmate reached out, wrapping his arms around Tsukumo a bit surprised when he felt something fuzzy. "What are you wearing? This fabric is odd...." "Ah, it's a sweater Yamato got for me. I thought it would be more comfortable against you then the fabric of my usual cloths." he spoke, shifting into Musashi's lap and leaned his back against the larger man's chest. "You're so considerate." Musashi muttered, placing his chin on Tsukmo's head and listened as he heard the seal on the egg nog crack before he felt something cold against his above average temperature hand, closing his hand around the glass and brought it up, drinking it as he heard the turning of paper. He couldn't appreciate most books, those written in bail were few so Tsukumo had started to read to him, the past week he'd enjoyed reading him Christmas books.
This one seemed to be about some reindeer born with a birth defect. It wasn't to far into it before Musashi had spoken up, causing Tsukumo to halt in his reading. "Wait they wouldn't let him play and picked on him because he was born with a defect?! It wasn't his fault!"
"Yes but it tends to be how life is..." Tsukumo said, smiling sadly and leaned back a bit more. "after all you've had your fair share of people being cruel right?" he said, placing a hand over Musashi's while the other held the book. Musashi nodded, rubbing his thumb over the back of Tsukumo's hand, hopefully the story would turn out better. He rested his head once more on Tsukumo's shoulder as he let go of the pink haired male's hand, feeling his fingers in his hair, petting him before he once more started reading again. His experience as a actor showed, he was good at reading, making the voices and showing emotion.
Tsukumo was starting to wonder if Musashi was starting to doze off to his voice as they enjoyed the eggnog, at least that was till he suddenly sat up and spoke again, seeming to have more commentary on the story. "Wait, they bullied him and Santa even exiled him, and now they're coming to him cause they can't see wanting him to guide the sleigh? Who needs Rudolph now." he said, laughing a bit. "They're lucky he's a good guy, proof you should be careful who you bully, you might need them some day." "You should, but at least he's nice enough to help otherwise the children wouldn't have Christmas and they're innocent they don't even know Rudolph at first. He'll also get lots of carrots for helping." he said, hearing Musashi yawn. "Perhaps we should lay down to finish the story." he said, closing the top of the half drank eggnog.
A bit of shifting later and both Musashi and Tsukumo were laying on the floor of the cell, some of the worst pillows the ninja had every had the displeasure of experiencing under them but it would do as he kept reading. As he read though his voice started to lower before slowly breaking off as he realized Musashi's breathing had even out, noticing the built man had fallen asleep. With movements that were ever so careful, ninja like even if he was only one on screen he closed the book, setting it aside. He shifted a bit so he was facing Musashi and wrapped his arms around him, closing his eyes. It didn't take long for Musashi's soft breathing and the warmth of his skin to lull him to sleep, that skin...warm...so much like the sun.
Meanwhile outside the cell Yamato gave a small chuckle while Kenshirou growled. This was going to be a pain and he knew Hajime was going to come here in a fit later..still he couldn't stand to rip them apart, they both had been though a lot and Musashi always did as he wanted, plus it was close to Christmas let them have their moment.

Guarding the Heart
For day 3 of kakayama week Prompt: Rokudaime/Bodyguard
Evidently I have a thing for bad titles this week
He had it timed down to the second. He knew exactly how long it would take his faithful shadow to find him. He only had about another minute and a half to close his eyes and enjoy the peaceful quiet of his bright little hiding place. He had accepted the position as Rokudaime Hokage because it was the duty that was required of him. That did not mean he had to enjoy the job, however, and he really didn’t enjoy his job. Kakashi had spent his life on battlefields, under fire and in danger, on the move and taking cover. His life had been one long adrenaline rush since he was five years old interspersed with stolen moments of contentment when he simply stopped to breathe for a while. Being the Hokage was a different life. It was a life he didn’t know how to enjoy.
Being the Hokage meant spending all of his time cooped up in a quiet office, stamping forms and approving paperwork. People bowed when he entered the room and censored their speech when he asked them questions. As Copy Ninja Kakashi people had been afraid of him and he had been fine with that. He had earned that. As Rokudaime-sama people venerated him and he was not okay with that. Just because he wore a fancy hat to work now did not mean that he was suddenly any better than them, any more delicate or proper or worthy of respect.
He really never thought he would live to see the day that he would long for someone to spit at his feet. At the very least, such an honest opinion would be refreshing.
Spending his time doing such mundane things and working with people who treated him so strangely grated on him in a way he had not fully anticipated. Which meant that Kakashi took every opportunity he felt he could allow himself to slip away from it all. Sometimes he found Gai and challenged him to the most ridiculous thing he could think to do with his friend being bound to a wheelchair. It wasn’t the great adrenaline rush he was used to but it helped. Other times he did what he was doing today: he would find a nice quiet spot hidden away from all human life and simply breathe, relax, let the stress melt away. The weight of his title always seemed lighter when he was lounging in the sunlight on top of the water tower.
Just as he had thought, it only took a minute and a half for a familiar chakra signature to make its way up the side of the structure. Kakashi sighed and slumped his body down a little more. He didn’t want to go back to work. He wanted to lay up here and pretend that his life was fulfilling somehow.
“Hokage-sama, I thought we talked about this,” a voice scolded him as a head of brunette hair popped over the edge.
“What, your insistence on calling me by that title no matter how many times I’ve asked you to just use my name?” he drawled back. Yamato pulled himself over the edge and walked the few steps over to where he was laid out in the very middle of the platform.
“No, Hokage-sama,” Yamato ground out purposefully. “I meant your inability to stay where you are supposed to and how worried it makes everyone when you don’t have any of your guards with you,”
Kakashi stared up at the clouds, not answering for a moment. It was a wonderful day. If he were as free as he would like to be he supposed this would have been a great day to spend with comrades doing something for fun that would be dressed up as training. Something like water fights on the river or a wrestling competition that would devolve in to a friendly battle royale.
“Don’t you get tired of being on duty, Tenzou?” he asked. “Just sit down and relax for a minute, it wouldn’t kill you.” He saw the younger man roll his eyes and cross his arms.
“I’m your bodyguard. It’s in my job description not to relax. There were two assassination attempts just last week; you could be attacked at any time. I would never be forgiven if you got hurt.”
“I would forgive you.” He said the words with little thought. They were true, and he meant them, but it wasn’t something he would typically share. Normally he would make a joke. All the formality in his days must really be getting to him. Yamato was peering at him with surprise naked on his face but he only sighed again and looked back to the clouds. “Look, if you don’t want to relax then would you at least let me?”
His guard was silent for a few minutes, looking down at him with a contemplative face. He kept his eyes trained upwards, not at all wanting to know what was going through that pretty brunet head. He just searched for shapes in the clouds, finding one that looked a bit like a carrot and another that reminded him of Pakkun. After what seemed like a long time Yamato shifted his stance, cocking one hip to the side in a more casual way that said, for the moment, he was willing to drop formality just a tiny bit. Kakashi was more grateful than he could have expressed.
“Is everything alright Kakashi?” Yamato asked him. “You seem…off.”
How to answer that? Joke or honesty? Of all the acquaintances he had Yamato was probably one of the only people who would understand how he felt. He was also one of the only people Kakashi trusted enough to be open with.
“I feel off,” he found himself saying. Yamato tilted his head in question. “I’m warming a seat for Naruto and the whole village knows it. I don’t understand why people insist on playing pretend, acting proper and treating me with such respect when I don’t deserve that. I don’t belong in that office, Tenzou.”
 “Sempai…”
“I feel like I accomplish nothing even if I spend ten hours sitting in that chair until my ass goes numb. I sign papers and read reports while the ones who really get things done are out there risking their lives and cleaning up the leftover messes from the war. I want to help. I want to contribute. I want to be able to walk down the street without three people shadowing me and making me feel like I can’t even breathe because the walls are closing in and it’s too tight Tenzou it’s too – ”
 “Sempai!”
His words came to an abrupt stop and he realized he was breathing too heavily, speaking too fast. His words had begun to rush out of him without stopping, revealing far more about his worries than he had intended to. He swallowed and closed his eyes, bringing his hands up to cover his face. They created a small dark cocoon for him to rest in and calm himself down. When he dropped his hands Yamato was watching him with such a look of concern that he immediately felt bad. He hadn’t meant to place his burden upon the other man. He hadn’t wanted to worry anyone. His troubles were his own and no one else needed to carry them. This was exactly why he was always so closed off in the first place.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured quietly, forcing his body to sit up. “I didn’t mean for you to hear all that.”
“You do deserve our respect you know.” He looked up, surprised, and Yamato offered him a smile before continuing. “And you do contribute. What is a team without a leader? You lead the village. You make hard decisions that others could not. You take those reports and bring all the small pieces of information together to create the bigger picture, then you decide what needs to be done with it. You’re a good Hokage, sempai.”
He shook his head. “I’m not. I’m just…the only one who got offered the job.”
“You were the only one worthy of it.” Yamato lowered himself to the platform, sitting so that they were side by side facing opposite directions. He placed one hand on Kakashi’s arm and gave him a reassuring squeeze. “You always doubt yourself too much and you really shouldn’t. Lots of people believe in you. I believe in you. You’ve never let me down.”
Kakashi stared at him, at his calm smile and his honest eyes. His brown hair was falling over the front of his happuri faceplate, creating shadows over his eyes while the sun made a halo around his head. He looked strangely enchanting and Kakashi was moving before he realized it. His hand came up and lowered his mask only a split second before his lips made contact with the other man’s, kissing him so gently at first that it was barely there. Then he deepened it, pressing them together more firmly and parting his lips to take one of Yamato’s between his teeth. When the other man made an indecipherable noise his eyes shot open and he suddenly realized what he was doing.
They parted a single inch, staring at each other in shock. Kakashi felt ice slide down his spine as it hit him that he had just kissed Yamato, one of his best friends and his most frequent body guard. There were very few ways this would end well for him.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I’m so sorry Tenzou, I have no idea what came over me.” He made to turn away and pull his mask back in to place when a hand on his arm stopped him. He rambled on before Yamato could speak, his words coming quickly again as if he meant to use them to stay the other’s anger. “You were being really nice and you’re always there, you know? You’re always there. When I need you. And you stay when everyone else goes. And you’re quiet when I need quiet. And you’re – you’re really attractive and nice and god I’m sorry. I know you don’t see me that way. I can, uh, shift the roster around if you want to…not see me…what are doing?”
His nervous babbling trailed off as Yamato lifted a hand to run it through his hair, sweeping the silver locks back from his face. The younger man was smiling and, if he wasn’t mistaken, holding back laughter as well.
“You know, when I first joined ANBU I thought you were so cool.” He ran his fingertips down Kakashi’s chin, tracing the shape of his bare face. “I used to fantasize about kissing you all the time but I knew it would never happen. ‘Sempai would never kiss me’, I’d tell myself. ‘He’s so cool, what would he want with someone like me?’ But you’re just as human as the rest of us I suppose.”
“I don’t know,” Kakashi said faintly. “I’ve been called monster plenty of times.”
Yamato flicked his nose. “You’re not a monster Kakashi.” Then he leaned in and Kakashi moaned when he found himself entangled in a second kiss, this one heated and hungry. Their lips moved against each other in near-perfect sync, noses brushing and cheeks flushing. Hands gripped his hair and his shirt, pulling him in close so that their chests were pressed together. When he dared to part his lips and dart out his tongue Yamato sighed contentedly and responded in kind. Kakashi wondered if he might have fallen asleep under the sun and started having a really nice dream – a really familiar dream. It wouldn’t be the first time his old friend had starred in his fantasies like this.
When they finally separated they were both breathing a little heavily. Both of them stared at each other with wide eyes and warm cheeks. Kakashi felt so much lighter than he had five minutes ago. Finally Yamato cleared his throat.
“I suppose it really wouldn’t kill me to sit and relax for a bit, would it?” His words made Kakashi grin. “Do you mind if I join you?”
“I wouldn’t mind. How long will you let me stay up here, my most overzealous warden?” He hadn’t felt this light in months. Suddenly he was looking forward to the rest of the day with enthusiasm.
Yamato pretended to think about it. “I think I could grant you another ten minutes. You really should get back soon, Hokage-sama.” Kakashi scowled at him.
“How many times will I have to ask you not to call me that?”
“I’ll make you a deal.” Yamato smirked as he leaned closer. “You let me call you Hokage-sama and I’ll let you bend me over your desk tonight.”
Kakashi froze in place, all circuits in his brain temporarily shutting down. He stared at Yamato in utter disbelief. Had his innocent, uptight little kohai really just said that? Had he really just been offered one of his biggest fantasies – and without even having to beg for it? Now he was really looking forward to the rest of his day. In the space of ten minutes his entire life seemed to have taken on a new, optimistic outlook for the future.
“We really should get back to work, you know?” he babbled, throwing himself back to his feet. “I’ve got a lot of work to do – as Hokage – and I don’t want to shirk any of my duties – my Hokage duties.”
Yamato trailed along behind Kakashi as the older man took off for his the office he had earlier escaped from, still chattering away to himself. He smiled as he watched his sempai go and chuckled. It had taken a lot longer to get Kakashi to kiss him than he’d thought it would. It had been worth the wait though.
Now, however, they would have a lot of time to make up for.

SS1.9.2 - KING'S GAME
Tumblr media
Part 1 Side Story Chapter 9.2
Proofread by Sophia @aseria ♥
Side Stories
Mitsuki: Yay! I caught my fifth fish!
Iori: I’ve caught four fishes. We only need one more so there’ll be enough for everyone.
Riku: Uuh.......
Iori: Nanase-san, please catch at least one fish.
Riku: That’s because the fishes always go to you Izumi brothers! That's cheating!!
Mitsuki: They also swim to you, right? You just miss the right timing…… Look! Now! Pull the rod!
Riku: But I really don't know how…… Eh? Ah! Aaah………!
Iori: The fish got away from you again……
Riku: Damn itー! I'll catch at least one for myself! Ah....!
Mitsuki: Whoa! Are you a fool!? Don't throw the bucket……!
Iori: You just released all of the fishes we caught!!
Riku: Sorry!! Catch them! Hurry and catch them!! Fish-san, the Izumi Brothers are over here so come back!!
Nagi: Great! We finally lit the fire!
Yamato: The fire is weak so let's hurry and cook something. I'm sure the fish and curry are ready by now.
Tsumugi: Ah! Before that, I want to try something, is that alright?
Yamato: Ooh. What is it?
Tsumugi: Ehehe. It's this!
Nagi: OH! What a beautiful glass ball!
Tsumugi: It's a marble ball! I heard that if you place a marble ball in fire, then put it in water, it would form a pretty crack!
Yamato: Heeh. It's already pretty just as it is, we don't need to crack it, right?
Tsumugi: Y, you are right……
Nagi: But I want to see it too! Let's do it, let's try!
Nagi: How long should we put it in the flame?
Tsumugi: They said for around 10 minutes!
Nagi: I can't wait! There are lots of things that are hurt, and cracked, but still beautiful in this world.
Nagi: I am sure we, and this jewelry too, are the same Yamato.
Yamato: Haha…… You're such a romantist, huh, Nagi.
Tamaki: Haahh……
Tamaki: Ughー……. I'm tired……
Tamaki: Peeling carrots and potatoes is troublesome……
Sougo: Playing hooky?
Tamaki: ……gh, I'm not! That's dangerous! Don't point your knife at me!
Sougo: Try your best. If we show that we get along properly everyone can be rest assured.
Tamaki: You're making everyone rest assured while sacrificing my rest-assurance…… Notice that already……
Sougo: During groupwork, we have to match ourselves with others.
Tamaki: In that case, I hate groupwork.
Sougo: ..............
Tamaki: …… Do you like curry?
Sougo: …… I like it. I like spicy food, that's why.
Tamaki: I will try my best to make curry if you want to eat it. I prefer that kind of groupwork.
Sougo: …… What is the difference?
Tamaki: Sou-chan. Rather than peeling potatoes or carrots, peeling to Sou-chan's true self is harder.
Sougo: …… I see.
Tamaki: You said that without understanding what I meant, right? This guy…
Sougo: I'm thinking about it now.
Mitsuki: Ughー! We only have half the fishes we caught now!
Riku: I'm sorry……
Iori: It's okay as long as you understand.
Nagi: Mitsuki! Please look! This is the jewelry I made with Tsumugi and Yamato!
Mitsuki: Ooh! It's sparkling! So pretty!
Tsumugi: It's so pretty, isn't it!
Yamato: You caught lots of fishes, huh. Fish from the river are hard to catch so it must have been hard for you.
Iori: It would have been easier if Nanase-san didn't release them.
Yamato: You released them back into the river? You're so kind, Riku.
Riku: E, ehehe.
Tamaki: Look! We finished the curry!
Nagi: OH! It looks so delicious!
Tamaki: Smells nice, right!
Yamato: You look so happy, Tama. Did you get along with Sou?
Tamaki: I got excited after we added the curry powder! About getting along though……
Sougo: We got along! Tamaki-kun tried his best.
Yamato: I see, I see!
Otoharu: Okay! Everyone, eat a lot! Then let's play a game after we're full!
Riku: Wow! What game?
Banri: It's a healthy King's game!
Yamato: What's the point of playing if we have to play it healthily?
Banri: I thought that too, but it must be a safe game and we didn’t have any other ideas, thinking about it was really hard, you know? Here, I'll give you a frisbee.
Yamato: I don't really understand but, Manager is participating, right?
Mitsuki: Old man, you're so dirty!
Riku: Eh!? I, it's dirty? Will there be an order like ki, kissing?
Otoharu: There won't. If anyone gives Tsumugi-kun a weird order, I'll be the pinch hitter.
Nagi: OH…… What a dandy pinch hitter……
Sougo: So strict……
Iori: I have a bad feeling playing King's Game with these people……
Otoharu: It's fine, it's fine! Let's drink and eat, and get excited together!
Mitsuki: Okay then, let's start! King's Game!
All: Yayyー!
Mitsuki: Who is the Kingー!?
Tamaki: I'm No. 3.
Yamato: Don't say it yet! I'm not the king, how about you, Banri-san?
Banri: I'm not too.
Mitsuki: Who is it? Wait, it's actually me! I wonder what I should orderー. I'm the first so let's make it easy!
Mitsuki: No. 1 has to write their name using their butt! who is No. 1?
Nagi: It's me!
Riku: Ahaha! It's Nagi! Do your best!
Nagi: How do I do it?
Mitsuki: Use your butt as the pen, and write your name alphabetically in the air!
Nagi: WHAT? Can I do it normally with Japanese?
Mitsuki: No, you do it like this……
Nagi: OH! So it's like this?
Tamaki: Ahaha! Mikkii is the King but he did it together with him!
Sougo: Ahaha. They’re so cute.
Iori: They are so cute indeed……
Yamato: It would be nice if a girl did this though.
Nagi: This is my first time drawing a sign using my hips! It was a nice experience. Okay, let's draw again!
All: Who is the Kingー!?
Yamato: Ahh, it's me.
Tsumugi: Yamato-san! What is your order?
Yamato: Onii-san will guess your number correctly.
Tsumugi: .........?
Yamato: Manager, what number are you? No. 3…… No. 7…… Umm. No. 6 should lend their knees as the King's pillow!
Mitsuki: Don't sexual harass her!!
Otoharu: Yamato-kun. If you want Tsumugi-kun's knee-pillow then I'll lend mine for you.
Yamato: Fairness is important in King's Game! Manager, what number?
Tsumugi: I am number 2.
Yamato: Ahhー! I was wrongー! Let's end this~
Tsumugi: Is it okay to end this without asking who is number 6?
Yamato: It's definitely a guy though…
Riku: Come to my knees! Yamato-san!
Yamato: So Riku is No.6! No, a guy's knee-pillow is a bit……
Riku: Don't hold back! I have never played King's Game so I'm happy you picked my number!
Iori: Nanase-san, do you really mean what you just said? (anyone usually don’t like it when the king picks their number so)
Riku: Hurry, hurry!
Yamato: ...........
Yamato: Then, I'll do it quickly……
Mitsuki: You are so weak to Riku~
Banri: ……gh, fufu…… A male’s knee-pillow……
Nagi: OH! I shall take a photo of this!
Yamato & Riku: Peace~
Mitsuki: Okay then, let's do it again! Who is the Kingー!?
Banri: Ah, it's me.
Tamaki: That's so nice…! I want to be the King too!
Banri: Then I'll make it easy! No. 1 should poke No. 10's forehead!
Mitsuki: That's sounds like it’ll hurt! Who is No. 1?
Sougo: …… I, It's me.
Mitsuki: And No. 10!?
Otoharu: Me!
Sougo: Boss!?
Otoharu: It's me.
Sougo: Ugh…… My stomach……
Banri: Boss, I will say this first. I didn't peek at your number.
Otoharu: It's okay. It won't affect you.
Otoharu: Now, Sougo-kun! Don't hold back, do it with your full power!
Sougo: I understand……
Sougo: ...............
Sougo: Here!
Otoharu: ……gh, he really did it with his full power……
Sougo: I'm so sorry! Without thinking, this finger has damaged Boss' forehead……
Otoharu: It's fine, it's fine.
Sougo: Let me apologize again……
Tamaki: Let's do it again, again! I want to be the King!
Nagi: I want to too!
All: Who is the Kingー!?
Nagi: Yeyy! It's me!
Tamaki: Damn itー!
Nagi: Okay, I shall state my order!
Nagi: No. 1 is being confessed by No. 2. but suddenly, No. 3 interrupts them……
Iori: Please wait. What kind of game is this?
Nagi: And when No. 2 and No. 3 are fighting each other, No. 4, as a pizzaman comes to deliver a pizza when he finds No. 5 threatening his hostage, who is No. 6.……
Mitsuki: What the hell!?
Yamato: It’s still going!?
Nagi: But, No. 5's mother, No. 7, comes to stop her child, but the truth is, No. 7 is actually No. 1's long lost sibling……
Tamaki: Complicatedcomplicatedcomplicated…………
Nagi: And then, No. 8 who is an alien comes to take No. 4 back to their home planet. In the end, No. 9 who is the Forest Fairy solves all of their problems!
Riku: That's so long……!
Nagi: Now! Let's start! Beginning from No. 1 who's called out to by No. 2!
Tamaki: What do you want, calling me here all of sudden.
Otoharu: I'm sorry…… I have something to tell you, Tamaki-kun.
Tamaki: What?
Otoharu: Actually, I…… I've been in love with you, Tamaki-kun.
Tamaki: Seriously?
Riku: Wait……!
Otoharu: You are……!
Riku: Tamaki! I love you more!
Tamaki: Rikkun, you, about me……
Riku: I won't hand Tamaki over to you, Boss!
Otoharu: I won't either! It's win or lose, then!
Riku: I accept your challenge!
Nagi: No. 2 and No. 3, punch each other!
Otoharu: Here! here!
Riku: Take this!
Nagi: OK! Now, No. 4!
Sougo: I am here to deliver your pizzaー
Nagi: Perfect! No. 5 and No. 6!
Iori: Please don't come closer! Do you want me to kill this person?!
Mitsuki: Help me! Please, spare my life……!
Nagi: No. 7!
Banri: Iori! It’s me, your mother! Stop this stupid act already!
Iori: Mother……!
Nagi: No. 1! Realizing that No. 7 is actually your long lost sibling!
Tamaki: Big bro……!
Banri: You are my long lost little brother, Tamaki! …… Eh, wait, what is my gender?
Nagi: You're a mother so female.
Tamaki: Big sis……!
Banri: No! You're not Tamaki-chan!
Nagi: Great! Now, No. 8 as the alien!
Tsumugi: нυяεнυяεнα αℓιεη.
Mitsuki: Manager, seriously!?
Tsumugi: sσυgσ-sαη, ι нαvε cσмε тσ тαкε yσυ нσмε.
Sougo: Aah, my home planet is calling for me…… What should I do…… I haven't delivered the pizza……
Nagi: Last one! No. 9!
Yamato: Leave it to me!
Sougo: You are!?
Yamato: I am the Forest Fairy! I will solve everyone's problems!
Nagi: No. 9! Please dance the Forest Fairy’s dance!
Yamato: I didn't know about this……!
Nagi: No. 1 through No. 8! Tell him all of your problems!
Otoharu: Aah, I want to confess but I can't calm down……
Riku: How long should we keep punching each other!?
Sougo: Should I go back to my home planet, or should I deliver the pizza……
Iori: Even if you're my mother, I can no longer be stopped!
Mitsuki: Help me! I'm going to get killed!
Tsumugi: нυяεнυяεнα αℓιεη.
Nagi: As you can see, everyone is troubled! Now, No. 9! Do the solution’s Dance!
Yamato: Damn itー………
Yamato: Lalala~ the Forest Fairy’s Solution Dance~
Nagi: Bravoー!!
Nagi: Ok! It's a happy ending!
Iori: …… It finally ended……
Yamato: …… That was so embarrassing……
Mitsuki: You did well until the end…… That's amazing, you're a true man……
Riku: Manager, you looked like a real alien!
Tsumugi: Thank you very much! Sougo-san's acting as a pizzaman is amazing too!
Sougo: Thank you. I tried to show that I was riding a bike by gripping both of my hands.
Nagi: King's Game is so fun! I want to be the King again!
Tamaki: Let's do it again! I'll definitely be the King next!
Yamato: I'm tired already……
Tamaki: But I haven't even been the King once!
Mitsuki: Be the King, then. I can guess your order anyway.
Tamaki: Seriously? Say it!
All: Give a King Pudding to the King.
Tamaki: …… Correct……
To be continued....

One Piece Chapter 1024 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Happy Volume 100 Day! Indeed, Volume 100 officially comes out today, it's a shame we didn't get more of those We Are One segments (just like the Nissin noodle commercials) but it wrapped up nicely
There's also a chapter to deal with though so let's get to it
Spoilers for Chapter 1024, Support the Official Release too!
I forgot to mention the special Popularity Poll colour spreads last time but here's our middle one mainly involving the Straw Hats, Vivi, the remaining Supernovas, Bon, Merry, Woop Slap (seriously how?) and some villains (Crocodile, the rest of Moria and Enel). Sneaky bit of Sabo on the side too who'll be fully displayed in the next spread
Oh Usopp, your braggadocios scamp you. He's spreading Fear of God by claiming some recent KOs are due to his Conqueror's Haki
Also claiming to have defeated 2 of the Tobi Roppo...I mean he contributed at least, maybe word it like 'I fought two of the Tobi Roppo and I'm still standing'
Plus he's riding a very unimpressed Alligator SMILE atrocity XD
Horsealina chan (aka Speed) is back to protect sweet child Tama, as it turns out the KOs are from Big Mom's Conqueror's Haki who's fighting on this floor, which must mean that Law and Kid are taking it to her
Also it's still worth applauding that Nami, Usopp, Speed nor even Tama have succumbed to BM's Conqueror's Haki
Luffy's status is still unknown to the crew though, and Nami does seem a bit nervous about it when asking Franky
Franky's right though, no news is good news because if Luffy was defeated or dead he'd be paraded around by the Yonko
Franky is also making motions to move Nami and Usopp with him to the performance floor, so the crew's gonna be converging soon
Some Heart Pirate action too as they fend off any attempts at enemies intervening on Zoro and Sanji's fight with King and Queen, seems like Law they don't like to be told to do stuff by the Straw Hats either
Everyone's bouncing from the Third Floor too thanks to Maria's arson attempts
Out in a blaze of Yohoho is Brook carrying Robin, but no you're not cremated just yet, need to be ashes for that
Look at Robin so peaceful, as Brook guards over her and also is eager to know how things are going
He calls Jimbei who's on the Fourth Floor with Kid's remaining crew, didn't know Kid has a feral female crewmate
Trust Jimbei to be concerned about the big picture of Kaido, but he also mentions how people are fleeing the castle, is it because of the fight in the Performance Floor or because we've reached mainland?
Showing Kawamatsu defending the line does make me think the former
But back to Yamato vs Kaido now, looks like some parent/child attack tennis
Since we can't avoid it now I know the Vivre Card Databook is saying that Yamato is female but since Yamato is identifying as Oden and was still canonically called Kaido's son I'm gonna continue to use male pronouns for the time being. Don't read too into it okay or leap at me for using the wrong pronoun because it's a can of worms right now and I don't want to be part of it
I mean, come on Yamato it's not like you expected Kaido to take it easy on you when you're trying to stop one of his endgame plans
Flashback time! And that's where the Dragon statue used to be...
Kid Yamato is precious, and also has Conqueror's Haki
Kaido all about not winning any Father of the Year awards, he's been starving Yamato, says if he wants to be Oden then he'd be better off dead, then threw him in a cave for a month
Yamato isn't alone though, there are three master swordsmen samurai in the cave too
And now he entices them, with a serving of food for one and a load of swords to fight over it
And the twisted cherry on the bastard cake: 'But I thought you were Oden', was there ulterior motive though? Oden would be able to inspire the Samurai right? I guess not for his own gain though given how he's treating Yamato
The Samurai grab the swords, but they hand Yamato the food: Samurai don't get hungry...unless they're Kin'emon and Momo, like how Kunoichi don't get hungry unless it's Tama
Full on Tama vibes from Kid Yamato eating their first meal in ages, I see that Oda
Dang then one of the Samurai just cut the chains off of him
Since I was given away on spoilers (like seriously guys use the 'Keep Reading' thing, it's the best way to hide spoilery stuff for those who don't wanna be spoiled) this must be Ushimaru, and he does look like those old Zoro pictures
He also now has an eye injury, but he feels disgraced, probably because he was captured rather than killed
Look at this little baby who is probably 5 foot tall hiding behind Oden's journal and doesn't know how to read yet
Looks like Yamato had 3 Dads, all of them Samurai, who taught him to read Oden's journal so he could fanboy more
10 Days pass and Yamato is weakening, seems like the Samurai feel that Yamato will need to be in the fight
Ushimaru though with the Shimotsuki crest on his back has had enough of prison, the Samurai are busting out and in turn giving Yamato freedom from the cave too
Amanowato, I feel like that's important, but the only thing I can find is a special dance (Amanowato Mai) that's performed on the day of the Annual Festival - October 15th...which is a Friday so maybe...
Back to the present and Yamato asks the tough questions, what right does Kaido have to steal freedom?
But Kaido makes a usual cruel response, there are no easy answers
And then we conclude with a clash of Thunder Bagua
Whooof, lot in that chapter huh?
We've got collective chaos with the Straw Hats as they do as expected begin to converge towards the performance floor, perhaps for the final hold off before Luffy and Momo arrive.
Oda though must've known that we were hoping for a Zoro flashback, because he then gave Yamato one instead XD It was cool to see some supportive people in Yamato's past, but while Yamato4Nakama fans will point that he now has a link to Zoro via Ushimaru we also have to note that Yamato's backstory may not have enough tragedy to be a Straw Hat (I'm joking in this btw, Carrot doesn't either unless the Dukes die but Zoro and Usopp's backstories aren't so tragic either)
Yamato giving me Tama vibes when a child is interesting, I do wonder why we have gone that route other than adorableness, but you can see where his strong admiration for Samurai lies too. Wonder how he got Oden's journal so young though
But yeah, no break which is good, I have a feeling though we'll get one next chapter after the colour spread is finished, 1025 could be setting something up big so Oda can pass out for a few days till giving us fire once again

One Piece Chapter 1027 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Okay we have returned, 2 more commanders have fallen and Luffy has returned into the fight proper now. But the chapter title is a concerning one
'An Unbelievable Disaster'
but for who? Let's find out
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
Haha Roger, little scoundrel. Wonder if we will get any young Roger flashbacks in the future
Carrot is back in centre frame, hugging Neko after defeating Perospero
Neko being sweet in warning her about the moonlight, I mean Carrot did say she was able to control it in WCI
Must really be a moment for Momo and Yamato too, we've seen the heavens part, we've had our freakout from the clash of kings, but this is the first time for them, the wave of emotions they must be going through
The clash is really doing a number on the lower floors too, I have continually warned you all of this island's structural integrity, roof ain't made for fighting
Yamato finally feels the effects of Thunder Bagua, despite shielding themselves from it. So I'd like people who were trying to rank Zoro below Yamato to kindly take the L because Yamato didn't scar Kaido
Back to the bickering for Luffy and Momo, Yamato telling him to help Momo, which is a solid plan still despite Momo's protests
Kaido isn't just gonna let this plan happen though and goes for Momo - who is still trying to will himself to fly - and Yamato
Seeing Kaido has Momo invoke Kin'emon and Kiku for strength, which is a bit heartbreaking since they're either dead or near-death atm
Yamato blocks the first attack and then Luffy wraps around Kaido to halt him
Luffy's little smile, of course everyone knows that Luffy wants Kaido to himself
Momo takes the leap, but he cannot steer and thus is plummeting
Luckily Yamato is a Dragon Tutorial NPC, telling Momo the mechanics of 'flying', like Geppo is more kicking the air, Dragons are simply climbing clouds
Momo's euphoria to flying is sweet too, given how he was deathly afraid of heights about 2 minutes ago
But rubble from the island is falling on them, so Yamato has to bat them away
The underneath is crumbling, which could indeed be a sign that Kaido is weakening, but it could also be a sign that the island's integrity is reaching its limits, also I still like my theory last week that Onigashima was the original capital, the bedrock would be unstable if it was lifted away before
Momo tries to push the island away, but Yamato points out how it's futile; the Flower Capital is in sight
I wonder if that's a normal 5 minutes of a Frieza 5 minutes?
Yamato suggests using Momo's fire clouds, but Momo doesn't feel like he's at that level yet, still questioning whether he has all of Kaido's powers
Alright so you can't just drop it there either it seems, Onigashima has enough explosives to basically nuke the capital in fallout, got a bit of Alabasta references here maybe? Blow it up in the sky
Since they don't want Kaido to run out of energy too, Momo suggests stopping Luffy, but gets bonked for being daft
'Even though he can barely stand'? Not sure about that Yamato he had a big lunch while you were fighting Kaido
But it's right not to tell him yet, if a solution is found there's no point, plus one will bet that Kaido will tell him if he gets desperate
Meanwhile on the performance floor though, King has gone in a slashing fit
KNIFE WINGS!
Zoro's blocked it but he's also been flung quite a way away
Safe hands by Franky
Zoro ain't asking for help when he scarred a Yonko, besides he should be teaming with Sanji at this point
Sanji of whom we don't see in this chapter, just Queen bickering with King
Ah okay so King is having a fit because Zoro cut his mask
King charges at Zoro again, hoping to dump him off the Island, but Zoro corrects himself with a new attack 'Clear Lance/Sky Tanuki'
Yeah Zoro would much rather die by the blade than plummet, though King's not exactly in a compliant mood
Though, you only see a tiny bit of his forehead, dunno why he's throwing such a hissy over that? He'll probably get a bunch of fangirls when his full face is revealed anyway
So this was an eventful one, starting strong with Luffy and Kaido setting a 1v1 we shifted over to Momo. As expected, Yamato is perfect for guiding Momo through his dragon powers. I didn't expect Onigashima to be loaded with enough explosives to be a bomb though, suppose it makes sense but it is adding some extra urgency.
We had some Neko and Carrot stuff at the start but not a lot, I hope this does mean plans for Carrot, it also may be a contrast to Inu who is without support and Orochi nearby.
Our main focus looks to shift to Zoro vs King, bit sad it's focusing on a singles fight (for now maybe) because I wanted Zoro and Sanji to fight together to win, but alas we will get some personal time with King to show off his race's design and capabilities. Wonder if he looks similar to someone else we know?

One Piece Chapter 1004 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
We keep on rolling to 1004
Last time we continued with the fight as Luffy ran out of gas, leading to some hype and highly anticipated moments, so let’s see if they unfolded in 1004
Spoilers for Chapter 1004, Support the Official Release too!
A nice Chopper cover this time, looks like you get enough value for your money with that bag of rumble ‘candies’
The chapter title also raised a brow, lots of theories could indeed come to fruition
I TOLD YALLS ASSES THAT SPEED WILL COME BACK! THERE’S HORSELINA!
So of course, Speed is the ‘enemy ship’ that let Tama in, makes sense since she’s their master so they can’t pull the ‘you’re too young card’ on her
She’s also hard at work using her DF, Kibi Dangos all around!
Sometimes all a girl needs is a supportive family of a Tengu sensei, a pet dog and baboon, a tea shop grandma, a caring horse lady, crazy pirate brothers, a samurai aunt, a ronin uncle and your very own army of human/animal hybrids
Tama wanting to see Momo as Shogun was a pretty big statement too
I do particularly love that Speed, Gazelleman and Daifugo - who were all minor characters in the last 2 acts of Wano - are coming in big clutch for Tama, Oda doesn’t forget
Also funny is there different methods, Speed is all ‘this is a special dango that makes you stronger’, Gazelleman is just all ‘have this snack’ then there’s Daifugo that’s just ‘EAT YOUR DAMN DANGOS’
Over to Franky vs Sasaki though and Sasaki’s defence is pretty strong, but General Franky is also pretty strong too
Cheap shot though, the Armored Corps holding General Franky down to be charged by Sasaki, looks like this Flying Six member doesn’t share the honour rules that Franky does
Fortunately Nami, Usopp and Tama are riding in...aaaand they’re being chased
OR ARE THEY!?
Nami and Usopp’s chaotic grins are great behind Determined Tama
SMILE ATROCITIES, ATTACK!
And then Sasaki wipes his own men out XD
I have mixed feelings about Thunder Lance Tempo, on the one hand Yay Nami! but on the other Nooo Ulti!
Usopp as well using his salt sniping skills but this time with Dangos...another Thriller Bark callback in Wano...
Oooof, got him in the fleshy belly. I doubt he’s done though, if Ulti can take a lightning bolt through the chest then Sasaki can deal with a belly slice
Not looking good with Sanji though...well, depending on your point of view, should’ve used the Raid Suit
Maria wants Sanji to betray Robin? Ha, good luck with that
Sanji doing the badass face there too
Magical Squirrel Girl and maybe-maybe-not-CP0 Bao Huang has found the Scabbards though due to her mouse spy
Whoa now hold up, who as that Bird person with the eye tags that is an epic design!
Second floor treasure room huh? Guess that means no Yamato :/ shame
Wonder if Marco is the one keeping King’s hands full
That girl is wearing an earpiece for sure, maybe it’s a den den mushi earring, or an earworm SMILE....they do keep bringing attention to it
Maria to face down the Samurai, Sanji may yet get a reprieve
Ten people huh? Reminder that the Akazaya are only 8 at the moment; Kin, Denjiro, Inu, Neko, Kiku, Izo, Raizo and Kawamatsu, so that means 2 other people are tending to them
Hidden Person is the final panel
NOOOOOO NOT ANOTHER BREAK!
So...no Hybrid form this week...or next week, maybe not even next chapter. We seem to have used this as respite to show the movements of the lower floors, but right now we’ve only really covered Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Franky. This does leave open Chopper (and Drake and Marco), Brook and Robin, Carrot and Wanda, Jimbei and Yamato, on the enemy side we have yet to see movements from Queen, Hawkins, Apoo, Jack or Who’s Who either.
There was a lot of love about the chapter though, revenge of the Queen of Beasts! Tama is directly working to shift the black tiles white as she is practically absorbing Kaido’s armies into the alliance’s. Now the SMILE atrocities are on our side, but there is still the matter of the Tobi Roppo and the Lead Performers, but this is indeed a turning point CP0 may not have anticipated from their reviews last chapter.
As for the person helping the Scabbards, they do look feminine and have one long bit of hair drooping down, people are saying Hiyori though I wouldn’t put it past it being Robin and Brook, Robin would want to find a treasure room for any intel and her and Brook would attend to the Akazaya if they saw them, on top of this it can lead to the confrontation that Black Maria wants; Robin vs Maria. This could also bring Sanji back from his rough spot in the raid, he started strong but in the face of his simpness he fell from grace, but if he escapes Maria and is confident that Robin can handle the giantess then perhaps he can move towards other fights.
This being said, the fact that we left the top of the dome with Luffy exhausted and Kaido in Hybrid form does worry me greatly, who knows how long it’ll be before we see Luffy and Zoro again, and what state they could be in.

One Piece Theory - End of Act III: The Tragedy
Tumblr media
Been a while since I’ve done a theory vid but this one bubbled under the surface the more I thought about it when watching chapter review videos
Spoilers for One Piece up to Chapter 1002
So as of current, Chapter 1002 depicts the five Supernova fighting Kaido and Big Mom. It may look decent because the Supernova have their hits in, but nobody is attacking Big Mom - which has already hurt them dearly - and Kaido is kinda fighting with one arm tied behind his back, until Onigashima stops floating in the air by Kaido’s fire clouds they will never have his full attention.
What looms over the audience is that traditional kabuki follows a 5-Act Structure, and Act 3 usually ends with a great Tragedy before the Act 4 Climax, there’s also Hawkins’ prediction that someone will likely die. This allows fans to believe that the Supernovas vs Yonko rumble is doomed for failure. and this may be partly the case - but not the whole story.
The Battle of Attrition Typically, fights against strong adversaries last days. The Akazaya fought Kaido’s forces for Days, Ace for Jimbei for Days, Aokiji fought Akainu for Days, Roger and Whitebeard fought for Days. So unless you have extremely overwhelming power like Marineford did against an old and sickly Whitebeard, you are gonna be fighting strong opponents for a long long time. And the Supernovas don’t have that time. This is why the Yonko have such confidence right now, even though the Supernova can hurt Kaido, they are still confident that they cannot outlast their endurance. And 1002 does prove that correct, for Zoro to land a strong hit he’ll have to exhaust himself with Enma and the remaining supernova were unable to use their haki well enough to dodge the Yonko’s attacks. This will also be worse on Luffy because his current state is only a temporary boost. Gear Fourth may soon run out. And then Luffy is a sitting duck.
The Sacrificial Play: Overview My theory right now is that Gear Fourth will be running out soon, maybe even next chapter where Luffy is the only one still gunning at Kaido. I also think that using Ryou in Gear Fourth may cause the timer of his state to fade quicker, since he’s using more Haki to enhance his attacks - thus why he used Red Roc in Gear Third. Luffy has already used Gear Fourth on a Number as well, so there is reason to believe that Gear Fourth is nearing the end of its timer. So what happens to Luffy when he cannot use Haki for 10 minutes? The Yonko will probably toy with him a bit more, not fully wasting him as of yet because they want to make an example of him. I expect this because we’ve seen this before in Luffy’s fights, against stronger opponents he tends to have a ‘time out’ between fighting; against Katakuri, Doflamingo, Arlong, Crocodile, Lucci and Moria there hit a point where Luffy was drawn away from the battle or the enemy distracted by another opponent so he could recover and return to the fight, this was even done in Marineford. The question that falls now is who will give Luffy this respite? So far I can see 3 options, all of which are self sacrifice. The Sacrificial Play: Kid
Tumblr media
Luffy’s prison buddy adventure with Kid has often been one-sided. Kid acknowledges Luffy but refuses to work with him. After all, Luffy is his rival, in all manner of sense he is the closest opposition he has to their dreams and yet they are also quite similar.
There’s also the matter that Kid may not be as immune to Luffy’s whims. We all remember that face he pulled in Udon, staring down Luffy in a begrudging nature, there can be a few reasons why Kid may decide to take Luffy from the fight and perhaps throw him into the hole in the Dome’s skull.
If he does, Kid will be able to shrug it off as either ‘You’re getting in my way Straw Hat’ - given his desire to take Kaido’s head for himself and the rivalry of the three captains, or stating it as repayment for saving him and Killer from drowning at Udon. Of the three this is my least likely one. Not that it cannot happen, it would be pretty cool, but I feel as though the next two will have more emotional responses towards it.
The Sacrificial Play: Zoro
Tumblr media
It wouldn’t be the first time that someone of immense strength went to kill Luffy and Zoro came in like a bullet. Zoro could very well kick Luffy down the dome in order to sacrifice himself for his captain again - knowing better than the other Supernova the limitations of Luffy’s Gear Fourth and that the healer Marco is waiting below.
This would definitely give Luffy more motivation to get back into the fight, and perhaps time for Zoro to stand out alone in a fight against two Yonko using Enma - a weapon that certainly has both Yonko worried - as far as he can manage it.
Zoro is highly likely and it’d definitely lead to some heart-in-mouth reactions from fans, but we don’t expect a death flag on Zoro here, this isn’t the same as Thriller Bark and he’s literally just got a new sword. If anything it’d be a valiant sacrifice but not one where people may worry what happens when Luffy returns to the top of the dome.
The Sacrificial Play: Law
Tumblr media
For my money, Law is the person who will move Luffy - and Zoro - away from the fight to save them. In past chapters he’s stubbornly trying to deny that he has any loyalties to the Straw Hats and his loyalty has been questioned throughout Wano’s acts. We are constantly told that ‘Pirate Alliances often end in betrayal’ which would make this a difference of the norm, he could also be the one Hawkins is talking about since he knows for a fact that Law is on the loose.
In Marineford, Law saved Luffy and while that did mean that Luffy was indebted to Law that debt may be repaid in Law’s eyes for help with his revenge plot against Doflamingo, that being said Law may still feel a responsibility to Luffy as a doctor, the Hippocratic Oath coming into play. There is also that Law does truly believe in Luffy’s strength and also knows Gear Fourth’s limits having seen it in Dressrosa.
It would also not be the first time Law, Killer and Kid have worked together, they fought together to battle a Pacifista in Sabaody and at the very least lived to escape, so there might be confidence in forming a team like that to at least hold down the Yonko until Luffy comes back.
While fans believe Law to be safe because he found a new purpose, there is threat of him dying. He confronted Kaido without his crew, including the three he brought to Onigashima and he struggled to fight Doflamingo alone - if Hawkins confirms that the odds are for Law to Luffy that can add more urgency too. He is a side character beloved, strong but also has the same mental weaknesses as Ace did, it does feel like we are building for Law to at least bet his life on Luffy and Zoro, Shambles-ing both to where he put the Akazaya (which could be the same place Yamato is to bring him back into the raid) leading to another tower climb where Luffy and Zoro will have to cross King, Queen and reconvene with the remaining crewmates, Marco, Tama, Drake, maybe Hawkins and Apoo, and possibly Carrot and Wanda, to return to the fight where they’ll find a near-dead Law, Killer and Kid - which in turn will lead to a larger party including the entire crew fighting the Yonko for the climactic stage of the arc.

One Piece Chapter 999 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
One to go We are within breathing distance of Chapter 1000, but we still have 999 to sate us The tower climb continues as down in the basement Yamato mentions Ace, implying a flashback too
so let’s get into it
Spoilers below for the chapter, Support the Official Release Too!
As the color spread combines with 1000, I won’t talk much about it, but it does look like it’s an updated homage to Chapter 100′s color spread
We start immediately into an Ace vs Yamato flashback
It kinda surprises me how much hassle Yamato is having with Ace, I mean we knew Ace was strong but he was only 550 million, which isn’t that big in the new world
Not ‘daughter’ guys, ‘son’ - also WHERE TF IS MASKED DEUCE!?
Kaido not being around does explain a few things though; Ace would’ve never ran away from a fight - this much we painfully know - and at the very least they got to free some abducted children
It is cool that Ace and Yamato found some common ground over the fact that they hate their bio fathers, though it is more tragic that Ace hates Roger who wanted nothing but love for him compared to Yamato hating Kaido because he’s abusive, negligent and a horrible creature
Turns out that Yamato broke the dragon statue first, using it as a gesture to declare his intention to go out to sea. It kinda reminded me to when Calgara killed the snake in front of Noland
The ace has to get a punch in while it’s down XD friendship is sealed at least
HAHAHA Cavendish losing all the respect, at least Ace remembers half his name XD
Yamato’s face though hearing about the budding supernovas is precious
I guess Ace’s drink of choice has been the ‘Gush about Luffy’ Juice, order 10 more! It’s wonderful how much Ace is talking up Luffy to the oblivious Yamato, even with that evil grin
Seems that Ace made 2 promises in Wano he couldn’t keep :/ if only he didn’t let Akainu get to him...
Momo and Shinobu do catch on that Yamato said ‘Father’ though, and from that they completely lose it. But like, come on, random allies in the den of Kaido are likely to come from Kaido’s ranks
Shinobu though just rolling away XD Yamato took cannonfire for you I think you’re good
I can’t seem to grasp who’s surprised about Ace’s death, either Yamato is responding to the question or Momo/Shinobu are pointing out that Ace has been dead for a while and Yamato didn’t know
At the same time we also note the Ace connection with Tama, as someone (Nami with the long nose) tells her of Luffy’s connection to Ace
Kaido’s forces attacking Marco because they don’t want to be killed by Queen is a better reasoning than they just believe that Chopper is lying
Robin and Brook taking the stairs? Looks like they’ll be halted by someone, or tag in for someone else having a fight
I think this is the first time Zoro’s been carried by a bird and he’s actually okay with it XD
Through Marco we get more of Ace’s side as to why he didn’t return to Wano
So nobody has been 2nd Division Commander because the WB crew learned of Oden’s death much later, I wonder how that went down. It’s interesting that Ace was told about Oden though
Oda though going all in with Marco and the Pineapples, first the attack pun now he’s just eating one
I mean, WB is right, Ace can’t beat Kaido, but at the same time avoiding casualties would’ve been easy if you just stormed Onigashima
SHUT UP MARSHALL! all gloaty because he could scar Shanks and would later take WB’s devil fruit and become a ‘big shot’ himself...
Looks like Izo and Marco were always gonna come support Luffy, out of the same solidarity they had for Ace, Whitebeard’s last order is still in effect
The tears! Hit me in the heart why don’t you?
King has finally showed himself again, direct opposition for Zoro and Marco
‘The New Generation’ huh, better than the ‘worst generation’
Wait...Does Queen have Gun Tongues!? He could’ve killed Luffy and Zoro when he had them in his mouth if he had gun tongues!
The penny finally drops for Tama, but it’s adorable that she immediately thinks about how harsh she was to Luffy, luckily Nami is there to ease her
At the same time, Momo’s learning that Ace’s Roger’s son and Luffy’s brother, serendipity in the air since Roger always believed that his son would be the reincarnation of Joy Boy
It’s a nice metaphor, but I don’t think Yamato has ever tried to count stars in the sky XD
It does seem fateful doesn’t it, or is Oda doing that out of a rug-pull intention?
The way Yamato is looking at Oden’s Journal makes me feel like answers about the D. are in them
Welp, Zeus and Prometheus are fully recharged, meaning that Big Mom will be certainly at full strength
It doesn’t surprise me that they want Robin alive, Inu and Neko did warn her of this, but again - doubt you’d be able to force her to read it
Rare Pudding mention there, ‘True Awakening’ does imply more things would come from the eye
Ah, so Onigashima’s mainly gonna be dropped on Oden Castle rather than smack bang in the middle of the Flower Capital? Less casualties but still a lot
It kinda felt uncharacteristic for BM to be so cruel to innocent, neglected people, and to even consider slaves, someone needs to bonk her head again!
Wait Wait, you’re telling me that Kaido hid his Road Poneglyph in the place the Wano lot were bunking in while WCI happened!?
Little Brother? Sure Linlin. But we got a little more God Valley juice, looks like Kaido was broken bad and BM saved him
But a Fish-Fish Fruit? I guess you can say it’s Of-fish-ial? I mean, she said Mythical Fish and people are thinking it’s more a Koi that becomes a dragon by rising the waterfall, it’d explain his orange tattoo, but why is Kaido a creature then? Why not say what animal? There seems to be more to it, and what does this mean for Yamato?
Oooh you said the thing you do not say, Luffy’s radar is gonna go ballistic
So yeah, 999 is building up with full strength Yonko waiting for Luffy, but they do have to remember that Zoro and Kid are on their way, Law of course is taking his sweet time too
With Robin and Brook climbing manually it may be a point where Robin has a target on her back, but she could also provide a key distraction.
The Ace stuff was nice, good clarity there, and Tama finding out about Luffy being Ace’s brother may further push their dynamic.  Still a lot to look out for, I mean we still haven’t gotten back to Carrot and Wanda vs Perospero, none of the Tobi Roppo fights resumed and Luffy wasn’t in this chapter at all All in build for 1000
Hopefully it’s a good xmas present rather one of complete devastation XD

One Piece Chapter 985: Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Well that’s taking a turn, not 100% unexpected but still, we’re heading into the danger zone right now Today’s fan translations are a bit wonky, so a few things may be a tad confusing, but this is what I am taking from it, of course I’ll read the official to get the clearer insight
Spoilers for Chapter 985, Support the Official Release
And we start with a 3 Captains Color Spread, people will gush over how Law doesn’t get a parrot so is sitting on Luffy’s or the fact that Oda really does love parrots but my curiosity lies on Kid’s trousers (not that way you dirty minds!), that text feels like it’s hinting at something...
Just a note on the title, yesterday’s translation missed it, but this New Onigashima Initiative means that this naming is of Kaido’s choice, it’s like his Whole Cake Island or Fullalead
“A storm is coming” - feels like we’re gonna get some big stuff in a bit
Of course it’s this bitch Kanjuro intercepting the flank party, backed by his own artwork and some of Kaido’s men
Izo and Neko are taking this all pretty in stride for someone who are just finding out that Kanjuro is the traitor
Something irks me though that Momo - who has spent Wano training with a sword - could only do a papercut to Kanjuro’s hand. Like, I know he’s strong but if something that small would put Kanjuro into a rage mode then it’s a bit of an exaggeration
That is if we believe Kanjuro’s story, I don’t think he’s good, but I think it’s interesting that Kanjuro is completely darkened out when beating up Momo, as if to hide something. This hand injury may come back around
Kawamatsu and Kiku may be shaken, but Inu and Neko don’t give a fuck about Kanjuro’s speech XD
Kiku’s title being because her cuts carry into the afterlife does give off a similar vibe to Brook, who uses ice ‘from the afterlife’ in a similar manner
Also side bar, I think Kiku’s armor is the one Luffy initially wears in the pre-raid chapter, the old chapter cover (380?) and Volume 95, so that may explain where it went, but what about the Kozuki puffy trousers!?
Izo looking like some gangster with the samurai PACKIN’ HEAT
Neko had a gunhand so Inu raised him for a sword leg, nicking some Shiki traits there Inu?
Noticeably missing though is the Law Squad, so maybe they are pulling a sneaky
I wonder how far this Video Announcement Kaido is reaching? Like is it just Onigashima? just Wano? The entire world? Is the Revolution about to be Televised?
Yamato bluntly using Ace to convince Luffy to join...I’m not sure about it. As you would’ve seen I am not 100% on board with Yamato for Nakama, I think Oda is just playing those who are. It just, isn’t the right format, granted Nami asked Chopper to join and Robin convinced Luffy to let her join but Yamato saying ‘you’re Ace’s brother, so you let me join’ seems the wrong way about it all
The translation I have is really messy here, but Luffy seems to be as confused as me about Yamato’s kinning (is that the right word?), I think he’s also imply that Yamato just set off themselves if they wanna leave
The explosive cuffs make yet another return, first with Sanji, now with Yamato
We learn a little more info on Yamato, they appear to be 28 at least (2 years older than Hiyori) and wanted to venture with Ace last they met, so this has similar Tama vibes already
Yamato though going on this intense philosophical backstory of how Kaido would rather blow up his own child’s hands than let them leave and Luffy’s just all ‘I could take them off for you’ XD
Yamato definitely seems on board with beating Kaido, but we must remember, Kid and Law want to kill Kaido, it’s very different.
Also is that hesitation? Like, you want the cuffs off right?
Kaido with the current affairs updates, how is he getting this info though with Wano being closed off? But this is how Luffy and co find out that the Shichibukai system is gone at least, and Kaido is rating the choice
Kaido’s plan to combat it though is simple, we’re treading back on the Ancient Weapons route
Yamato’s horns peering out of the attic is somehow humorous to me
Big Mom strolls in though with her Homie army, a KO’d Zeus in hand too, it’s not a good look for Nami and Carrot as their disguises are removed and Nami’s power buff is gone, Shinobu is strangely missing though
A lot of people are picking up on ‘Ours’, but don’t get too ahead of ourselves, ours can mean any group, not just Kaido and Big Mom or the alliances as a whole, they could even be referring to their singular crews
Meanwhile Luffy is just ‘that shit is mine I called dibs ya bastard!’
The big decree though, Orochi’s men now have to make a choice because Wano is gonna be a pirate-led lawless state
Orochi’s head started to roll...and then it did literally! YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE!
I was half right then, Kaido did kill Orochi and kinda save Momo from him...surprised he used King’s sword though...though, Hydra’s do have a knack of surviving when a head is cut off...
However, this now bodes potentially well for the raid. Kaido is opting for ‘with us or against us’, either the Samurai join or die, but that means our samurai raiders are bolstered by anti-Kaido samurai...if there are any that is
Luffy of course almost blowing his cover to save Momo, surprised so few picked up on the roof falling
Kaido’s main initiative now is to turn all of Wano into his Pirate Empire and spread from there, a tactical fortress fused with the ancient weapons and technological advance, Onigashima itself will now be the Flower Capital and yeah, makes a lot of sense for Kaido
I’m not sure about the Kiku stuff, Kiku crying with a bloodied blade alarms me because we don’t see a body, maybe Kanjuro pulled another sketch trick and got away?
Kaido wants Wano to be called New Onigashima, and per the Yamato-based announcement, they are the new Shogun
But Yamato’s quick to blow their cover to refuse, and now the Flying Six are also on their way as Luffy chases to save Momo
Whew, that was a lot of stuff happening in the chapter, a lot of it feels like misdirects but things are still very dire Yes, on the plus side we may get some Orochi loyalists and Wano purists on our side to save Wano from Onigashima, it’s not just its weapons but its culture and people that Orochi had neglected in vain to stay on Kaido’s good side. We also can confirm that Yamato is an ally, Nakama is still 50/50 I think they just want out more than to join Luffy, they didn’t even consider the One Piece!
But the downs are still dangerous, Orochi is dead so Kaido has full command, Momo is still in danger, the back flank is halted, Marco is far away, Nami and Carrot are injured by BM (and this storm negates Su Long), Perospero is oncoming, half of the crew are stretched away from the main dome and the flying six are about to close in, not to mention that Yamato still does have their handcuffs on The raid hasn’t even begun and we have so many twists and turns, but there are still the AWOL factors; Apoo, Denjiro, Kin’emon, Hiyori, Drake, Hawkins, Speed, CP0, Perospero, BM’s crew, the Numbers, Marco, Team Law, Team Walkng Tank, Team Rhinocycle, the shady person Robin and Jimbei were near, Shinobu, Sanji, Team Kid, Team Ulti, Sasaki, Who’s Who, Black Maria and more Not to mention I think SJ is on break next week so OP will be delayed again! So we have to bear that as well
Like I said, we haven’t even begun.

One Piece Chapter 989 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And we are back from yet another break as One Piece looks to ease into the big battle Hopefully we’re past most the breaks and can get a steady flow of new chapters
Spoilers for Chapter 989 - support the official release as well
We will start as we mostly do with Pound, and he’s got the most tightest of receipts to prove his parentage, will they believe it? Possibly not, depends if they remember how Big Mom looked young
Also, I keep on forgetting that young Big Mom could get it and why she has so many kids...
So unsurprisingly, Kaido’s men fear the wrath of BM after Franky put a wheel in her face, all the while Nami sucks up to Franky in gratitude
Look at Franky’s face though, looking away like ‘only Robin is allowed to stroke my face’, also Carrot in the background
Meanwhile as I noted last time, Yamato declaring themselves as Oden to Momo (and Shinobu) does not go down well. Luffy uses ‘she’ in this text but I feel like that may just be a fan mistranslation
Oda really likes drawing BM as creepy as he can doesn’t he?
I guess there’s a positive in this that Kaido’s inhibited men are no match for the alliance and samurai, but there is the worry that there’s only the challenging lot left, I don’t feel confident for Hyou against the Tobi Roppo (where did Ulti disappear to, she was fighting Yamato)
I also keep forgetting that BM has only met a fraction of Luffy’s crew, meeting Franky does fall in line with her interest in different races, but Franky has no time to flirt like Brook once did
The balls on Franky (when they’re not in Robin’s purse or her Grab) to aim right at BM though, he fears no yonko!
The Numbers crash in though, before I mention them BM looked like she was gonna pull up a meat shield with that Homie there
The Numbers do look a lot like Oars, turns out they’re ‘failed’ recreations? Given their laughs Go, Ja and Ji I’m guessing they laugh in their number value
Strange though, BM seemed completely unfazed by the fact that Kaido got ‘Failed’ Ancient Giants from Punk Hazard, which means they likely came from Ceasar, who was researching Gigantification...for Big Mom...I feel like we’re missing something in between here
Alas poor Usopp and Chopper, Usopp’s showdown with the giants looks like it’ll have to wait
I do feel like we may’ve overestimated the Numbers’ threat though, we’ve seen about half of them and so far one has just been destroyed by Franky’s Radical Beam. What happened to Apoo as well?
WHAT KIND OF GAINS IS JIMBEI ON? He just reverse judo flipped a Yonko 3-4 times his size mid-air!
And finally something for Robin, that’s a long-ass Delphinium to keep BM busy and dizzy...though if she were still Miss All Sunday the end point would be in the ocean for sure
Usopp’s in a bad way, until Fusion entices him back to life XD Luffy would too if he were there, I wonder how Yamato would react though given how Oda has often split the fusion’s reaction between genders
Sometimes I have to wonder about Queen you know? Here he is, standing on an empty execution platform, Luffy pops up and it turns out, Zoro’s been next to him all this time XD
Zoro doesn’t want the commanders though he wants a slice of that Dragon for himself!
Queen does soon get their act together, it must’ve been an impressive catch too since Luffy was using his Rocket
Is it me though, or did anyone else find it odd that Queen had Zoro and Luffy in his mouth, took one look at King and his army of flying SMILEs and decided to spit them out? Like you could’ve bit them in half, or just kept them trapped, that feels like either it’s intentional or a strategic mishap
Unsurprisingly, Sanji’s Raid Suit saved him from fatal damage against King, though it doesn’t look like they’ll renew things just yet
Hyou giving us some death flags though, looks like the Samurai plan to support the crew in the tower climb
But we get our full crew ‘Hero Shot’ (as the gif is a reference to), Sanji jumped out of that raid suit quickly didn’t he? And now seeing Robin’s full outfit I just...trust me, I have 0 problems with Robin’s thighs but if that kimono was any shorter it’d be a jacket, same with Nami’s really
Of course the hero shot is only the current Straw Hat crew too, Carrot seems to have shuffled away from the spotlight, another time maybe, we know she’s still fighting with the crew and not the minks
But looks like the whole crew do plan on confronting Kaido, they just have to get through King, Queen, 2 Numbers and the flying SMILEs
So the tower climb will begin. Interestingly we still are missing the visual of Inu and Neko’s Su Long transformation, the longer they wait it out the more worrisome it feels that the Minks are gonna be crushed. I do feel that a lot of people will be upset by Big Mom’s treatment again, but I think it makes sense a bit, the crew are not heavily damaging her after all, they’re basically keeping her at a distance so they’re not caught in her attacks. Her angered presence also made it handy to dispose of the fodder among Kaido’s ranks. What most intrigued me though was the characters that quickly went missing from last chapter. I know I keep track of the characters yet to appear (how will BM’s delphinium bode when Marco and Perospero arrive?) but this one is very strange; Zeus and Prometheus disappeared from that one attack, we only saw Napoleon, likewise Ulti just up and disappeared too, is she chasing Yamato down? I hope so but of course there are still those other players in the game, does Hyou encounter a Tobi Roppo I wonder? or will that fall mainly on Yamato, Shinobu and Momo.  As for the crew I’m happy to hear that taking Kaido is at least planned to be a group effort, we’ll see how it goes in practice without another week break this time around
