How I sleep knowing I didn't expect Lucanis to be some Shadow Daddy romantasy character before the game came out, and he was instead exactly like Mary Kirby said he'd be.
This is also how I sleep knowing my Bone Daddy is exactly the kind of freak we thought he'd be.
#lucanis is a delight#please go write more fanfic if it's still bothering you#dragon age games are not actually dating sims#I'm glad you're here and think you should play the game regardless!#but the romances are not the devs issues#your expectations are#anyway some of you would be happier with Emmrich or Davrin but I have THOUGHTS on why you're sleeping on them...#datv#dragon age: the veilguard

i actually think it would be cool to have a video game which has dating mechanics and one romance option clearly prefers someone else over you IF they were leaning into it or maybe exploring the unnatural transactional nature of those kinds of systems and whether typical video game mechanics are an adequate way to represent human bonds etc etc
but… this really wasnt what they were doing with lucanis and neve lol
#datv critical#dragon age the veilgaurd spoilers#im sure some dev somewhere has had a crack at this kind of dating sim#i AM biased here bc i decided to romance lucanis and ive been burned lol#when i think about how i would like to see bonds progress in games im always thinking about a really complicated flagging system which woul#drive any dev insane and crazy#but i havent delved deep enough into dating sims to really have a solid opinion#i havent watched neves romance yet so no opinion#however i have got to believe the issue with lucanis is a huge amount of cut content

won't say much abt it but i definitely am a bit disappointed in regards to the limited world state options, i get that theres not much we can do about it at this point- but admittedly it has very weird implications for lore, because for example who became divine affects what happened to circles, who drank from the well determines who's linked with mythal etc etc
but on the flip side im just trying to look for any positives like at least we got a da4 to begin with 😭could you imagine if this was still live service with microtransactions
#ibon.txt#and like. if your inquisitor didnt romance anyone like mine did that means even less continuation from my inquisition world state technical#here's to hoping they add updates or something but i'm not too sure if that's like a thing thats able to happen realistically#like even the codex!!!#they could just write codex entries and id be happy#datv spoilers#veilguard spoilers#to be fair though I’ll still enjoy the game because it’s remarkable that we have a da4 at all considering everything#it’s just…. wistful sigh#there could be a layer in which the devs could have been limited from what they wanted to do i guess? given all the issues with bi*ware#layoffs and development hell and teams getting sidelined etc#but also keep in mind im not too knowledgeable on gamedev#these are just my thoughts

wait are people still confused that rook gets romanceblocked by lucanis if you dont save treviso but he can still romance neve? youre his boss theres a difference and probably feels like a betrayal especially if youve been flirting. neve is equally passionate about minrathous but like she can compartmentalize differently to lucanis. because. he was tortured. and has a possession going on. hes not in that headspace to receive rooks choice the same way.
#then getting pissed at devs for saying explicitly thats why they made that choice. also rook is not neve. they are different characters so#their choices hurt him differently. come on guys!!!!!!!#honestly this is like really basic writing neve is just the more sane one of the two thats why her being hardened can still be a romance.#he was literally in the torture prison. where he got tortured. and then his hometown got blighted. PLEASEEEEE#YOURE LIKE HIS BOSSSSSS COME ON GUYSS UNDERSTAND THE DYNAMIC THIS SHOULDNT BE HARD#like i have issues with a lot of writing decisions but this isnt one of them because it makes sense and its fair

You're more amazing than figs
Now that I have a more powerful computer, I can play games that have high performance requirements and were were obnoxiously laggy on my old, mediocre computer.
Such as this 2D pixel art RPG Maker game
#asks#no idea why but by the time i got to the desert area it was really laggy#no idea how an rpg maker game managed to lag my computer that could run monster hunter world smoothly#second time i've had performance issues in an indie game that should NOT have performance issues. first was ultrakill#something that low-poly should run SO smoothly on any machine but it found a way to lag my old computer#i think ultrakill doesn't even use the graphics card? like what the fuck?#i'm not entirely sure if that's the case but it ran better on this computer before i even installed the graphics card#and no this computer isn't THAT much more powerful because monster hunter world was TRASH until i reinstalled the graphics card#so i can only conclude that the dev got lazy and just didn't bother to make the 3d graphics use the graphics card#ANYWAY i get to keep playing the queer furry romance rpg

I might draw instead of game because I'm genuinely sad that Wyll barely has content but if I make the content myself maybe Larian will realise people actually want it idk
#either way I'm taking a break from actively playing the game#I just got to the beginning of Act 3 hoping my companions and romance would refresh#who do I get a scene from? the devs Favourite Vampire OC of course#it sucks because it's got to the point I don't want to hear this character speak anymore because he has more dialogue than anyone else#and as someone who is playing a morally righteous elf paladin with personal boundary issues#anything to do with Astarion does nothing to further my Tav's development#we're not gonna bang#our friendship is as good as its gonna get#they really didn't consider anyone except Astarion fans while polishing off the game I swear#what about people whose characters would just kill a vampire outright#the only reason my paladin didn't is because he believes everything has the capacity for good#which is a trait I give him so he's not just#slaughtering random people all the time lmao

The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) | Official Trailer
The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a lore-rich and choice-driven historical fantasy visual novel inspired by Irish mythology and Celtic folklore. Play as a tenant farmer from mid-19th century Ireland, whose path becomes inexplicably entwined in fairy affairs after getting robbed by the roadside and lured into the mythic and war-torn world of Tír na nÓg: A once unified land, now divided into the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. Will you escape and return home with your stolen belongings? Or does fate have something else in mind?
🍃 STEAM 🍂 ITCH.IO 🍃PATREON 🍂DISCORD 🍃
Eager to play? Certain route content is available NOW in early access on Steam and Itch.io! For more information, click below👇
Meet the Cast
Facts & Questions: The Game
🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a Kickstarter-funded project currently in development. Due to the scope of the story, we will be releasing it serially over several years to Steam and Itch.io, and discounting it while in early access. The earlier it's bought, the cheaper it will be overall, and you'll only need to buy the game once!
🍂 Not all routes are currently available! As of Nov. 1, 2024, you can play half of Shae and Maeve's routes; both approximately 50k words. If you're not sure about paying for an unfinished game, feel free to check out our free demo first. It consists of Vol. 1, Book of the Traveller (the pre-route content). Differences between the demo's Vol. 1 and the paid game's Vol. 1 are marginal following our August 1, 2024 re-release of the demo.
🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) has a recommended reading order (Vol. 1, then 2, then 3, etc.), which will correspond to the release order of the routes. For more information on our reasoning behind this, click here.
🍂 Due to its setting, The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) will occasionally feature instances of characters speaking in Gaeilge, i.e. the Irish language. All instances of Gaeilge are linked to an internal translation tool, which is voiced by Nigel McKeon, a Gaeilgeoir.
🍃 The main character is yours to shape. At minimum, you must choose a nickname, pronouns, and one of four default appearances, the last of which can be your own artwork (instructions are included in the game's files). You may also choose to discard the True Name…
🍂 All routes, both current and upcoming, will have both romantic and platonic choice options. If you're uninterested in romance, feel free to make friends instead! No matter the nature of your relationship, you will still be able to reach the good end. (Want to learn more? Refer to this post!)
🍃 Our cast consists of two men, two women, and two non-binary characters. All are romancable no matter the MC, but some characters are asexual or on the aromantic spectrum, which may impact aspects of their romances.
🍂 If you are a Mac user and are having issues launching the game via the Itch direct download, refer to this guide for troubleshooting before sending us an ask. We strongly recommend purchasing the game through Steam instead of Itch if you are a Mac user; it is the best way to avoid issues with launching the game.
🍃 NDM is very intentionally set just prior to the onset of the Great Famine, which is both thematically and textually relevant to the leftist, anti-imperialist story we're aiming to tell. If you would like more insight into this, refer to this post.
🐎 There are secrets to be found in this game, with more yet to come. Prepare yourself for a lot of horse related shenanigans. 🐎

For me, it's not so much a belief that "making the three undateables into dateables will 'steal' attention from the main cast" because you're right, that's not really the issue.
For me, it's much moreso that "adding three more dateable characters to the pool of 11 that already exist is just going to make a bad problem even worse"
Because the writers simply cannot handle the 12 characters (11 of which are romances) they already have, plus the story, plus Pop Quiz events, plus everything else. I won't go into detail about the story/plot problems, or the characterisation issues, or anything else of that nature right now because there's already plenty of info out there breaking all that stuff down. I just wanna focus on the issue that presents itself when we start talking about the three undateables (Thirteen, Mephisto, and Raphael) and the problems that come along with making them dateable.
Because OP is right - if your name isn't Lucifer or Mammon, good luck ever getting any significant screentime, good luck ever getting nearly as many (or any at all) Spotlight events, good luck getting anywhere near as many UR and SSR cards, etc etc. The writer and devs biases for these two characters at the expense of everyone else in the cast has been prevalent since the first season of the original game all the way back in 2019. Also, OP, Mammon has had four Spotlight events now (not three) even though Beel, Belphie, Diavolo, Solomon, and Luke still haven't even had one.
The problem with making the undateables into dateables is that it's just going to add three more characters for the writers to juggle, when they can't even handle the 12 characters they already have. Lucifer and Mammon will continue to get a full 60-70% writers and devs attention at all times, while the entire rest of the cast (now 14 characters in total, including the player) all get shoved together into the 30-40% of the story and screentime still remaining. Thirteen, Mephisto, and Raphael won't "steal" that screentime from the other boys, they'll just be forced to share it while it gets spread even thinner and thinner
Something that bothers me Is that everytime one of the "trio" Is given spotlight, the same old discourse happens of "do you want them to be dateable?" And Some people answer that No, because "they will take Time of the other cast" I'm sorry but having more or less characters isn't part of the problem. Look at season 1 of OG, and any event before the side characters became dateable. The problem Is the devs playing favorites, even If w still had 7 characters, the same problem would still be there.
Giving Thirteen a kiss scene will not rob of Beelzebub of an spotlight or giving Mephisto a hug of Asmodeus having screentime. The problem Is Mammon having 3 spotlights this year when we still have characters that haven't had one. The problem Is the devs pushing Lucifer as the center of the universe in the Main Story of NB. Why do you blame the characters that barely appear of robbing you of something that they aren't giving you anyways?
#and for the record#I love Lucifer and Mammon#this isn't about them as characters#this is about the writers and devs CONSTANTLY acting like those two alone are the only characters that matter#or the only characters at all in fact#it's been an issue for years#and adding three more dateable characters won't fix these existing problems#adding three more romances won't make the writers look at their cast and start writing for everyone fairly and more evenly#it will just mean that the three new dateables will get shoved to the background with everyone else being forced to share screentime#while Mammon and Lucifer continue to hog the spotlight for the vast majority of the time#THAT problem needs to be fixed first

re last reblog I do see fanfic culture pushing/replicating a certain model of "what trauma looks like," "how trauma works"
this is a problem across all areas of society obviously, but transformative works are, well, transformative. they're about crafting and modifying narratives where the fan-creator sees a flaw or a lack -- often for the better! don't get me wrong, I've done my fair share of "I take a hammer and I fix the canon," it's the main thing that gets my creative gears spinning -- but what happens when that "flaw" is simply a narrative not conforming to popular expectations?
some people just don't get PTSD from events that sound obviously traumatic. they're not masking, and they're not coping; they just straight-up didn't get the permanently-locked stress-response that defines PTSD. they walk away from a horrible experience going "well, that sucked, but it's over now." some people do get PTSD from events most people wouldn't find traumatic. we don't really know why some people get PTSD and others don't. but fandom has an idea of events that must be traumatizing, of a "correct" way to portray trauma. you see the problems with this lack of understanding in e.g. fans pressuring the devs of Baldur's Gate 3 to add dialogue where the player character badgers Halsin about his own feelings on his abuse -- because he must be traumatized, and his trauma must fit a certain mold and presentation of sexual trauma, under the mistaken impression that anything outside that narrow window is somehow "wrong" and disrespectful or even harmful to survivors.
take, for another example, the very common trope of a traumatized character who hates touch or sex "learning" to like touch or sex as a part of their healing process. certainly that can be healing for some people; other people will never like, or want, touch or sex, because of trauma or because they just don't. the assumption that someone who doesn't want sex or doesn't like to be touched must be traumatized, must be suffering from this perceived lack, is seriously harmful -- to asexual people, to people with sensory issues around touch, and to people for whom healing from trauma means freedom to refuse sex or touch.
and there's a secondary trope, one that's slightly more thoughtful but ultimately repeats the problem -- that once someone has learned that their boundaries will be respected, they'll feel it's safe to soften those boundaries. once they feel safe refusing touch or sex, they'll feel comfortable allowing it on their own terms. but many people don't, and many people won't! many people will simply never want to be touched, and never want sex, and they are not suffering or broken or lacking because of it. the idea that proving you'll respect someone's boundaries entitles you to test those boundaries -- the paradox is obvious, and yet this is something i've seen hurt (re-traumatize) people i care for.
people are imperfect victims. people don't heal in the ways you expect. many people have positive memories of their abuse, of their abusers. many people hurt others in the course of their trauma, in ways that can't easily be unpacked in a 5k oneshot. very few narratives of trauma and recovery actually fit the ones put forward by popular children's media and romance novels -- which are the ones I most see replicated in fandom spaces, because they provide the clearest narrative and easiest catharsis, and so they're easy and soothing to reach for.
that's not necessarily a bad thing! i am not immune to goopy romance tropes. i am not immune to teary catharsis. not every fic has to grapple with ugly realities. but there's a problem when these narratives become predominant, when people think they're accurate and realistic depictions of trauma, when the truth of trauma is unpleasant and uncomfortable, and doesn't fit any single narrative, let alone one of comforting catharsis
#bird original#see also: the murderbot diaries#murderbot does not like to be touched. murderbot does not like touching other people#physical contact is an unpleasant necessity in emergencies or to feign being human (something murderbot also hates)#at one point murderbot uncomfortably offers a hug to someone it cares for because she's upset and needs one --#and she refuses. because she knows it doesn't really want to; she won't ask it to do something it hates for her benefit#& yet murderbot fic often has it learning that touch ~isn't so bad~ and maybe there are a COUPLE people it likes to cuddle with.#the differences between vash in the original trigun anime and trigun stampede --#tristamp!vash is your woobie who hides his sad and traumatized heart under goofy behavior;#who copes and avoids through silly indulgences#2011!vash ... is not that#2011!vash isn't coping or masking. he feels immense grief yes; he also feels immense joy; the two are inseparable#he pursues joy moment to moment because he knows how fleeting each moment is#he loves people so intensely because he knows that he'll lose them -- so he has no time to waste with them#his grief is real and profound; so is his joy#i find that much more compelling and i feel like that's not a character i'd see in today's media environment#anyway#fandom#trauma#fanfic#throwing a golden apple into the tags with this but fuck it we ball

I really hope Larian doesn't listen to a lot of the fan requests and even some of the petitions. I'm sorry. I don't mean this in a shit way,
But they need to work on the foundations of the game before adding things like fun new kisses and shit
Like I cannot believe the things being addressed instead of fixing the issues that exist within the game, and I hope the devs don't fall into a fanservice pit prior to fixing the glaring issues, unfinished portions, disproportionate companion experiences (WYLL *COUGH* WYLL)
I've reblogged someone recently who pointed out exactly what needs to be worked on first and like,
I'd love it if the Fandom could get behind things like finishing the upper city before trying to make side NPC's romancable or some shit I'm sorry I know they're your fave but please don't de-rail Larian from focusing on game breaking issues by harassing them for content that was never intended to be included when they still have sooo many obvious issues to be fixing
Also Astarion may be a fan favorite, but I'd prefer if they stopped tweaking him and just set him aside for a hot fucking minute to deal with other things. Sure the ass grab is nice, but they keep changing his facial expressions and camera angles and yet they haven't been able to add in all the ambient romance dialogue for all the companion romances. For God's sake Wyll has HOURS less of content but they have to add Kiss tweaks for Astarion who has the MOST content? It shouldn't be a priority. Leave Astarion alone and focus on the rest of the game
I know im.sure it's the difference between an easy fix and a hard fix, but I'd rather wait longer for the big stuff than have little nonessential tweaks tbh

On Judging Older Rep By Today's Standards
This wall of text inspired by this take that bioware are pussies for not having an all-pan romance cast until Veilguard. This idea that all past representation is mediocre or bad because today's is better is very irksome. I'm irked.
To begin, a little history:
Bioware has been including queer romance in their games since the early 2000s. First in 2004, when they released Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This game had a character you could recruit named Juhani. Juhani would become the first LGBTQ+ Star Wars character. She could be romanced by a female player character, though it basically amounted to a couple lines of dialogue. Why so little? Because it was 2004 and they practically had to sneak even that much in.
In 2007, Mass Effect 1 released. This game had arguably the 'safest' queer rep, an attractive woman kissing and having a fade-to-black implied sex scene with another attractive (alien) woman. A while later a mainstream media outlet (Fox News, you may have heard of them) ran a hit piece on the game. They ran the usual stuff, degenerate porn simulator, think of the children, etc. This was a big deal, as having a mainstream, large and popular (unfortunately) news channel targeting your game is not great for several reasons.
Keep in mind this was the, again, arguably the safest queer rep you could go for, and it still received that level of attack.
In 2009 Dragon Age: Origins released. Not much to say here, some time had passed and DA managed to avoid the targeted hate that Mass Effect received, despite having a bisexual man and woman as romantic options.
Mass Effect 2 is believed to have suffered the most from the Fox News debacle. Jack was originally planned as a pansexual character, and while I don't recall if the devs have stated exactly why that was cut, the obvious guess is they feared another round of attacks.
Alrighty, history recap over. Now to address the issue:
"They should've done it years ago." Well, they actually did with DA2 and it received a good amount of flak. Because that was 2010, and this is 2024. Representation is a social thing. It changes and grows as we do. In 2004 Juhani, with a minimal amount of actual content, became the first LGBT Star Wars character. You do what you can and try to push the envelope a little more each time. People struggled and fought for all that old rep you see as not good enough by today's standards.
"They bowed to the bigots because of money." Games, and all media, take money to create. They then need to make money to create more. There would be no Veilguard without the successes of previous games. And unfortunately, in the past that sometimes meant choosing your battles. Frustration is understandable, but misplaced.
None of this is to say that Bioware, (or any company or media, this post is just focusing on them) is beyond reproach as long as they're trying. There will always be things to criticise, and areas to improve, of course. But that isn't what I'm seeing here.
This to me is indicative of a common sentiment I've been seeing far too often in queer and leftist spaces recently, people judging older rep by today's standards and decrying it and it's creators without understanding the history.
#bioware#mass effect#dragon age#knights of the old republic#kotor#queer representation in games#so irked right now

~ EVENT SPOTLIGHT : Videotome Jam - "Waiting" ~
November 16th to December 1st 2024
Videotome Jam is a two-week-long game jam for games made in any of the Videotome engines with the optional theme of "Waiting".
What is Videotome?
Videotome is a series of small homebrew IF/VN engines made by Freya Campbell (communistsister), an indie game developer focusing on narrative games that are usually:
science fiction, horror, &/or romance
close to 100% LGBTQ characters
free/PWYW with low tech requirements
liable to make players keysmash due to feelings
Videotome was first released in April 2022 as a part of a game entry for the Domino Club collective. The initial idea for the engine was to make writing text-heavy games as hassle-free as possible, focusing not that much on the visual presentation format, but more on the writer's experience. It would allow writers to write in a notepad and then it would somehow grab the .txt file and parse the lines into an array, spitting them out one line at a time as a kinetic novel.
At the moment there are four engines available:
Videotome, for linear, no frills text / images / music;
Videotome ADV, adding a more conventional layout with ignorable choices and branching;
Super Videotome, for more fully featured and freeform image/canvas use;
Videotome Heartbreak, adding a stat raising dating sim & storylets structure to the above.
If you're more interested in the process of making these engines, check out the devs blog post - Words, Friction, Syntax: Stuff I thought about when making Videotome. (The post also includes a very interesting case study concerning other game engines Freya has experience with.)
If you want to check out some examples of projects made with Videotome, take a look at this collection. It includes games made by both Freya and other devs.
~ ENDED ~
The Educational Jam has ended. Check out the thirteen entries and learn something new!
The voting for ECTOCOMP 2024 is officially over! Check out the results!
You can now check out all 16 entries to the Videotome Jam!
Disabled Rep VN Jam has a very simple premise but a very important message. Check out the submissions!
~ ONGOING (VOTING) ~
A Very Hallmark Game Jam has entered the voting phase. You can now vote for your favourite out of the five entries.
~ ONGOING (SUBMITTING) ~
Media depicting healthy examples of polyamory isn’t that common. The PolyJamorous 2024 is trying to break the status-quo!
This year’s Yuri Game Jam is in full progress. The devs have until December 2nd to submit their projects.
Once upon a time, a game jam was held to create stories around the theme of fairy tales… and that game jam is the Once Upon A Time VN Jam. It’s running from October 1st to January 31st.
Concours de Fiction Interactive Francophone 2025 is for all French-speaking enthusiasts. Submissions are accepted March 3rd 2025.
Are you perhaps a fan of more somber, melancholic themes? Then check out the Dying Year - Visual Novel Jam! You have until the end of the year to participate.
The Black Visual Novel Jam is all about working with creative professional developers who work in visual novels to bring more Black stories to life. The goal is to create a space where Black creators can show their unique storytelling through visual novels.
IF Short Games Showcase 2024 is a great way to shine some new light on your projects made in the past year (Jan 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2024), regardless of whether or not they are previously released! You have until January 15th 2025 to join.
Winter Visual Novel Jam 2024 is here! You have until January 1st 2025 to submit your projects.
Are you familiar with Decker? Then why not take a part in the Deck-Month 2?
Another bitsy jam is here. This time with the theme "better late than never".
~ OTHER ~
PIZZAPRANKS is accepting submissions for their Indiepocalypse Issue #61. If you’re a dev and would like to try out your luck, definitely check it out! Any game is welcomed, not only IF.
~ NEW RELEASE ~
You stand at the edge of a vast and foreboding cave system, its mouth yawning like the jaws of some ancient beast. This is no ordinary cave—it is the entrance to the Caverns of the Forgotten, a labyrinth of twisting tunnels, hidden chambers, and unfathomable mysteries that have claimed countless explorers before you.
Generations ago, invaders brought magic to the Kingdom of Jubai, setting battlemages at the top of the noble power structure and leaving everyone else oppressed. Now, a secret organization of mage hunters has risen up, phoenixlike, to stand against the mages' power and overthrow their rule. Can your secret order of mage hunters save the kingdom, or will internal strife tear you apart in Magehunter: Phoenix Flame (CScript)?
Today is your first day of work here at Toy Maker’s TOY BOX (Ren’Py). Pull apart stitches or rip off an arm or two; we support whatever you must do to ensure that you only save toys of the highest quality. Should you ever feel unsure, there’s no need to panic! Simply toss the trash where it belongs: the incinerator. After all, it’s of the utmost importance that inspectors upkeep the Maker’s image.
You're struggling for friends in a new town and decide to check out a cute diner! — 'That New Diner', huh? Odd name for a restaurant, but I see advertisements for it everywhere. Might as well check it out. Who knows, maybe I'll meet somebody?
What does the glass sound like? Quite tinkly. It crumbled into sand under the feet of all those worried people circling around. As for you, there was darkness in your eyes for a long time. And the glass has melted into silence long since. But what is this place? And who is this stranger standing in front of you? And most importantly, where — or who — did the bullet hit? — Monarch (Ren’Py) is a short visual novel game that was made during Ukrainian Micro Visual Novel Jam in 10 days.
Halloween is a big deal in Port Gillain, steeped as the town is in old folklore and ghost stories. You, the local psychic, regularly attend the festivities. This year, you can bring a friend. The Second Sight: All Hallow's Eve (Twine) is a companion story to The Second Sight: Dead Reckoning.
Your Aunt’s House (Adventuron) is a short story about mourning. @kessielrg
The story centers around Larry, a cab driver eking out a meagre existence in a dystopian near-future, until he unwittingly finds himself centre-stage in the midst of a technological revolution. — For the first time this multi-media project can be experienced in the form of an interactive novel. Larry Folger Volume I contains all the chapters of the ongoing narrative complete with music from the series.
Your feather, my wing is a game about getting close to the object of an experiment that your 'super-secret lab' leads! It's all about fun, fluff and cuddles. Nothing serious and if anyone from the "normal world" came to this organization, they'd be disappointed by the lack of pathos, mystery and seriousness. But do you care?
Nestled at the edge of an ancient forest, Ravenwood Hill looms like a shadowed sentinel against the pale moonlight. This is no ordinary place; whispers of its dark history echo through the trees, carried by the wailing wind. The townsfolk speak of disappearances, of mysterious lights flickering in the mansion atop the hill, and of secrets buried deep beneath its crumbling foundations. In Ravenwood Hill, you are the only one brave—or foolish—enough to uncover the truth.
As always, don't forget to check out the submitted entries to the events mentioned in the previous pages. They deserve some love too!

~ OTHER ~
350p Adventure has been ported from Infor 6 to PunyInform. You can either download it or play it online in your browser. — (Some interesting trivia: The game is sometimes called Advent, because the system it was created on in the 70s would not allow filenames to be more than six characters long. This game is sometimes considered as the very first text adventure.)

Fenris and Anders dynamic is best when it's not taken too seriously. It wasn't thought through well at all (something the devs have admitted to) and so building it into an all defining characterization for either of them engenders mischaracterizations. In my headcanon Fenris and Anders use each other as a whipping post to lance their wounds and it's something they'll eventually grow past. I personally like how honest they are with each other sometimes, neither feel like they need to sand down their edges with the other and it can lead to these hauntingly sincere moments.
A romantic relationship between them during DA2's timeline, though, has only two extremes from my interpretation. I could see them sleeping together with no forethought, a release of tension (as Fenris does do with a rival mage Hawke), and then that spiralling into a very tumultuous romance. If I'm remembering right these are characters who say things like 'there's no place you could go where I wouldn't follow' and 'I'll drown the world in blood to keep you safe'. All that intensity turned on each other... They're two sides of the same coin and both sides are blinkered and passionate. At their best they'd join forces and work through their issues to become this badass force of nature with a singular purpose— tearing down systems of oppression together. At their worst they could destroy Thedas and each other. I can appreciate how epic that potential story would be but I can also understand wanting both characters to find more peace than they're likely to find in each other.
No, my DA2 enemies-to-lovers ship is Aveline and Isabela. It wouldn't work and it's not epic but it is hot.

[Dev Log] December 2024
Hello, I apologize for the delay in releasing the dev log.
I'm currently away from home because a couple I'm friends with urgently asked me to pet-sit their animals while they took an unplanned business trip, so I didn't have time to prepare a post in advance.
This dev log includes:
A reminder of the release date for the public update.
An answer to the question of when to expect the next update.
Information about content that will be released this month [in honor of the New Year and the anniversary of the demo release].
A small addition to the "Secondary Rivals" section in the Romance System Overview.
Let's start from the beginning.
[Reminder] Public update release date
The public release of Chapter 3 Pt. 1 is scheduled for December 7.
Thank you for your patience and support!
A small note for my patrons: I really appreciate your help and support, but please note that saves from the Patreon demo will not work on the public release [since the files will be merged, as mentioned in the Patreon demo release post]. However, I will keep a working Patreon demo link for you where your saves will still work until the next update is released. I hope this will be helpful!
When will work begin on the next update [Chapter 3 Pt. 2]?
The work on the outline for the current draft I have for Chapter 3 Pt. 2 will begin after the New Year [a month after the public release, which is scheduled for December 7].
What was accomplished last month?
L's Side Story release.
There were some grammatical errors and a few coding inconsistencies because I used one of the variables incorrectly in the penetration moment ["the MC takes the initiative" scene]. Both issues have been fixed, and I apologize for the inconvenience. To my patrons, thank you so much for your support, patience and for helping with the errors. I'm glad if you enjoyed the story!
Bug fixes in the extended version of the demo.
There weren't many, but I still found a fixed some [mostly grammatical, as usual].
About my plans for the current month.
December 17 will mark the anniversary of the demo's release, and with the New Year approaching, I want to create something special to celebrate both occasions.
Throughout December, I'll be working on a collection of winter/New Year's themed short interactive stories, one for each of the ROs [featuring choices for the MC's name, gender, and one bold/shy flirt option].
Planned release: [Patreon]: end of December / first week of January. [Public]: a week after the release on Patreon.
I've also decided to release one of the stories in December before the full collection comes out.
It means the most-voted story and the most-voted alphabet will be released this month as bonus content on Patreon [I'm still waiting for the poll results since I released the post a little later than planned].
Secondary Rivals [a minor addition].
A small addition has been made to the Romance System Overview in the "Secondary Rivals" section:
Options marked [♡] establish relationship with the secondary rivals and unlock special scenes and narrative changes later on the story.
Thank you for reading to the end and for your support! Have a wonderful week and days after that! ♥
