I have long thought about how turning the Story Girl into a film would be virtually impossible because how are you going to live up to her voice as it is in the book? Through animated sequences of her stories? Hardly magical, and it somehow seems like cheating. Through some poor child actress trying her best? Possible, but there's that extra layer of something to the story that's missing. It's almost like those teen movies which focus on a band writing a song, except the song inevitably sucks even while everyone acts like it's earth shatteringly great.

"THE BATTLE OF THE PARTRIDGE EGGS

Once upon a time there lived about half a mile from a forrest a farmer and his wife and his sons and daughters and a granddaughter. The farmer and his wife loved this little girl very much but she caused them great trouble by running away into the woods and they often spent haf days looking for her. One day she wondered further into the forrest than usual and she begun to be hungry. Then night closed in. She asked a fox where she could get something to eat. The fox told her he knew where there was a partridges nest and a bluejays nest full of eggs. So he led her to the nests and she took five eggs out of each. When the birds came home they missed the eggs and flew into a rage. The bluejay put on his topcoat and was going to the partridge for law when he met the partridge coming to him. They lit up a fire and commenced sining their deeds when they heard a tremendous howl close behind them. They jumped up and put out the fire and were immejutly attacked by five great wolves. The next day the little girl was rambelling through the woods when they saw her and took her prisoner. After she had confessed that she had stole the eggs they told her to raise an army. They would have to fight over the nests of eggs and whoever one would have the eggs. So the partridge raised a great army of all kinds of birds except robins and the little girl got all the robins and foxes and bees and wasps. And best of all the little girl had a gun and plenty of ammunishun. The leader of her army was a wolf. The result of the battle was that all the birds were killed except the partridge and the bluejay and they were taken prisoner and starved to death.

The little girl was then taken prisoner by a witch and cast into a dunjun full of snakes where she died from their bites and people who went through the forrest after that were taken prisoner by her ghost and cast into the same dunjun where they died. About a year after the wood turned into a gold castle and one morning everything had vanished except a piece of a tree.

haul of a girl that can't pick a substyle

my first brand swimsuit and an usakumya necklace i was very excited about finding!!

i was missing several of the early volumes of GLB and was able to fill in the gaps with a few of those. i've been interested in researching the history of the fashion recently so i'm constantly hunting for old magazines! i've added GLB volumes 1-4 & 6 & 49--as well as "Frill" volume 1 and the "Maison Gothic & Lolita Style" book to my media collection.

a metamorphose Alice OP (2000) that i got on auction!! the double sleeves and center buttons down to the bottom are my favorite. it didn't come with the apron, but i was lucky enough that the one from a different Alice OP, also from the year 2000... was on auction on a different platform at the same time. i bought them separately intending to pair them together! i quite prefer the style of this rounder edged apron rather than the more squared top one it's meant to go with.

this is actually the dress that made me realize the Alice OP Set on lolibrary has a long version (similar to the maid OP from 2003 mini & long or the nun style OP mini & long)--i'll have to remind myself to submit a correction for the current OP to indicate the mini variation, and to submit a new entry for the long length one if i can manage to find more information... though i had no idea of its existence until recently! from an old LM sales listing, i found that the mini length is around 88 cm, whereas this one is 125 cm. i severely underestimated the length of this and it's down to my ankles, but i suppose it'll be my first long dress ^_^

I saw one of your posts mentioning the parallels between Julian and Dru. Can you dive a little deeper into that or explain it more? It sounds really interesting 😎

of course! sorry this is a little all over the place 😅 it's kinda just all my thoughts plastered together

anyway the thing that began this train of thought was that Mark calls Julian "his dreamer" in TFTSA, and "the dreamer" is also the moniker that Julian gives Dru in LM. everything kinda spirals from there as more parallels occured to me as I thought about it more.

Julian is mistaken multiple times for Andrew; Dru is said to look the most like Eleanor. They're both extremely good liars. The first person they ever killed (at 12/13) was already dead but not quite. They both felt the pressure of having to grow up too fast. Julian is an artist & both Helen and Mark bring up how Dru loved bright colours when she was younger. also like. "you're the heart of the family, baby girl. I promise you. you're our heart." and Julian entire arc in TDA being remembering he has his own and that it's worth something.

another thing that struck me a lot was how Julian used to look after Tavvy after their mom died. not his physical needs, Helen covered those, but he watched over him and played in the same room as him because someone had to. Emma says that's where it all started with Julian & how he holds everything and everyone together. and when their dad dies and Helen & Mark are gone, Dru takes that over from him. Tavvy's almost always with Dru in TDA, and while that's because she's often paired off with him it comes from an underlying assumption that you can rely on Dru to always have Tavvy. and I can't see how that would happen given that Dru is the second youngest unless she, like Julian, did what someone had to. which ties into how her updated flower card is "with me you are safe"

they both need friends a little more than their siblings too imo. like Dru's arc in TDA around Jaime and how she just really badly wants a friend and Julian and his Emma (to quote Mark again lol) well before romance came into the picture. their mutual desire for someone that none of their siblings have because they have each other. Helen & Mark. Livvy & Ty. Julian and Dru are the odd men out. even when Mark & Julian and Ty & Dru do get closer it hinges out the fact Helen is exiled and Livvy is dead. it's no one fault but an impassable divide exists between them anyway.

a more vaguely I think about how Julian's bedroom walls are dedicated to a giant gloomy mural of Sleeping Beauty and Dru's is a shrine to horror and terror. like what's the difference between dreams and nightmares anyway.

so him having his "worst person you know just made a good point" moment here really burns XD

but he's right! he's totally right! Cosette and Marius getting married in their current known-to-them circumstances is a terrible idea

and as much as Marius--and some readers--might be shocked by the idea that Marius should make Cosette his mistress .... that's how he's been treating her. Only seeing her at night, alone, behind her dad's back, no chaperone...that's not how a man of Marius or Gillenormand's class courts a potential wife. Never mind if they've been "chaste" ; if anyone else found out about how they've been carrying on, Cosette's rep would still be as ruined as if they'd been having freaky sex parties all night. Gillenormand may have 18C libertine morals in conflict with Marius and his 19C Respectability , but in this case it just means Gillernormand is sympathetic and not shocked or treating Cosette like a shameful scandal, just going "sure!! have your mistresses! :D "

But for Gillenormand, "pretty girls are pretty girls"; his philosophy, ultimately, has room for a woman of Questionable Virtue marrying up.

Last book I stopped reading - Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson - Dalinar Kholin, you stupid cunt, why do you always-[GUNSHOTS] <-Girl walk away from the book if it's stressing you that bad, c'mon now - the fictional character's dumb decisions can't hurt you. I'm actually planning on finishing it someday, but I watched The Bear when I was a quarter of the way through the book and now I am totally useless for almost everything else.

Also, The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner has a smallish, but fairly active following on Tumblr, but it deserves the energy that is devoted to some more popular YA fantasy/historical novel series. <- All of these books are re-readable af, 10/10 no notes.

I just have four words. - Oh. My. Fucking. God.

I did it.

I actually fucking did it.

I made a half decent drawing of pookie where pookie actually looks like pookie.

That too the picture I wanted of him, my favourite picture of him.

It was a 2+ year drawing battle but I got there.

I don't think y'all understand what this means to me like, ever since I started reading Hazza fanfics, i knew I wanted to draw him, and the girl, i wanted to save the scenes of my favourite books and I wanted to do that by drawing a picture of them

But the problem was i sucked. I actually sucked

Okay, no this isn't Harry's face nor was it ever intended to be, this was one of my first attempts at digital drawing.

Then I started experimenting with small things like Square animals , objects

Then eventually to like 2D characters , this would allow me to have like a good look at body and face outlines.

I thought I was ready and I drew my first ever Harry picture, which was of a famous moment.

I don't wanna face internet's wrath so I cut the actual picture just to the part of his side profile. The colour doesn't match nor do the facial features, everything is off.

Then I read Duplicity. I saw how Julez had basically just made his silhouette on a dark background. I noticed how damn good that looked. Since I obviously sucked at the facial features part I was glad I could conjure up some Harry art by myself without messing it up by adding my horrible features style

After being satisfied with this , i decided to go a bit bold and experiment with his side profile

Took more attempts than i remember but eventually I could finally manage to do it.

Feeling comfortable with my choice , i decided to go for more non face Harry fanarts , but I wanted to take it one step further.

Drawing his tattoos and making the background somewhat real or good was a bi**h. Like the actual Harry part took like 10-15 mins to draw and colour , and the rest hours were spent on making all his tattoos, and then the background setting.

And now I'm so excited because I finally did make a fanart after my first successful face drawing . I'm almost done reading one of my favourite books, Vigilante by intermissionfl0wer on Wattpad so i wanted to make a fanart about it . Here's Harry and Marshmallow

And lm in love with the way it turned out.

Into, Across and Beyond! Scripting: To Be or NOT to Be...?

In Many More Heroes, after OMT!Tails and Pana managed to bait LM!Sonic into the Quill Society meeting room, he was quickly detained by one of Zonic's rings.

Zonic: Hold it there, LM.

EV!Sonic: What's the worry?

OMT!Tails: I found this stuff in LM!Sonic's dorm you might wanna look at.

OMT!Tails passed him the files.

EV!Sonic: Way to go, little dude!

Milly: So with this, we need an explanation as to what LM's been hiding from us.

Zonic inserted the claimed disc into E-21 while LM!Sonic simply looked on.

Zonic: Right. To begin with, E-21, explain the thing.

E-21: What thing?

Zonic: What do you mean what-?! The universal-explainy thing!

E-21: Ah, right!

She activated a hologram.

(Keep in mind that this isn't all the people in the room at the time.)

The panels under the meeting room began to activate as a circle formed around them.

OMT!Tails: What is this?

Zonic: This... is everything.

The circle lit up the meeting room to show many different video clips.

OMT!Tails: Is it okay if you specify further?

Zonic: Right, sorry. The molecule-like connectors with dots around? This is all of us. All of our lives woven together, in a wonderful link to life and destiny.

OMT!Tails (in awe): The SEGAVerse...

Zonic: "SEGAVerse"? Huh, that's... not its name. It's called the Special-Extravagant-Galactic-spAce Vast Multiverse.

Everyone looked at him in confusion about it.

Zonic: ...which honestly isn't the best name I thought up, honestly.

Sunky and Tlels took notice of the nodes on the hologram between the links.

Tlels: And those nodes where those lines converge?

LM!Sonic: They're typical canon points. Chapters that are part of a hero's story quite a lot of times. Some good...

Holograms are shown of SoH!Sonic getting his super speed, the Sonic 2 opening cutscene from Sonic Origins, and SatAM Sonic and Sally sharing a kiss.

LM!Sonic: ...some bad...

Some more holograms are shown of Scorched fighting Prowler, which concerns Milly, frustrates Sunky and Tlels and confuses Blitz!Tails, a Sonic struggling to find air in Labyrinth Zone, and Archie Mina taking the bullet for her Sonic and Sally. Milly is quick to realise the implications of the third one.

Milly: ...What if I can't make it work...? EV!Sonic: Hey, I'm sure you still can.

Zonic: And some... *sigh* REALLY bad...

Maria Robotnik's death from Project: Shadow is shown on a seventh hologram, to the horror of Movie Shadow. LM!Sonic gestured over to an eighth hologram that came in front of him as EV!Sonic kept an eye on him, ensuring he wasn't going to hide THAT one especially.

LM!Sonic: This one, Event ASM-91? A close companion to a hero dies trying to stop a personal villain of that hero.

The hologram showed footage of a younger Movie Sonic trying to go back for Longclaw, then ART sacrificing himself for Underground Sonic and his siblings to escape (which saddened UG!Sonic), and finally Mobiverse Sonic giving himself up to save Antho from Mammoth Mogul.

OMT!Tails: Did that happen to several of you guys, too...?

Sarah Henderson: In all honesty? Yeah...

D-Sides Mighty: And... what of it?

LM!Sonic: These are how the story's supposed to go.

Other holograms fly around them depicting other "canon events"; Deja vu about the Soleanna events, Shadow sacrificing his life for Sonic, and a couple of other cases.

LM!Sonic: I know EV doesn't believe what I'm saying, but canon events are the connections that bind our lives together. Yet, those connections can end up broken. It's why anomalies are so dangerous...

A hologram flashing back to OMT!Tails saving the little girl, BK!Sonic helping stop a train bound to crash, and BK!Amy rescuing Merlina from an ambush a few hours earlier.

LM!Sonic: Merlina's death was MEANT to be a canon event, and you, Tails, weren't supposed to be there or give BK time to save her! That's why Mina tried to stop you.

A flashback to the three-way rescue sequence is shown, with OMT!Mina grabbing OMT!Tails's arm doing the rush to save the kid.

Past OMT!Mina: Tails!

OMT!Tails: You what? I... I thought you were trying to save me, Mina.

OMT!Mina: I was, Tails, I... I was doing both.

LM!Sonic: And now, Prower, because you changed the story, BK!Amy's universe will most likely unravel! If we're lucky, we can stop it from happening, but we haven't always been lucky.

OMT!Tails: Hey, that wasn't me! That was Crimtake!

EV!Sonic: Yeah, like I just told you!

LM!Sonic: It's what happens when you break the canon!

EV!Sonic: Oh, boy... Here we go...

OMT!Tails: How would you know that?!

LM!Sonic: ...Because I broke it once myself, after that scumbag Eggman murdered two of my friends. I found another world where I was actually happy. At least, another variant of me was. And that version of myself was killed by Mephiles, so I replaced him.

Images are shown of LM!Sonic living a happier life in an alternate dimension, his past smile disappearing to his present-day scowl.

LM!Sonic: I thought it was harmless... but I was completely wrong.

Further images show that dimension collapsing, akin to Sonic '06's End of the World, several members of the Quill Society trying and failing to save others. LM!Sonic was running through the streets of Soleanna, Elise in his arms.

Elise: S-Sonic! Get me to the Aquatic Base! You need to put this right!

She was dying fast in LM!Sonic's arms as he raced there at top-speed.

LM!Sonic: Elise, CR? Isn't that right?

CR!Sonic: Y-Yeah...

During this, OMT!Tails remembered from earlier.

OMT!Tails: ...Crimtake's planned target...

Crimtake: I’m going to claim what’s left of your ‘family’, Prower. Try and stop me if you can, ‘hero’!

OMT!Tails: And if Crimtake claims Cream... When does this happen?

LM!Sonic remained silent.

OMT!Tails (angered): I said WHEN DOES THIS HAPPEN?!

LM!Sonic: In 12 hours, while she's asleep.

E-21: It's... what LM!Sonic's data says.

LM!Sonic: Look, I'm sorry, kid.

OMT!Tails: I need to get moving!

SS!Amy: Yeah! I'm coming with you!

LM!Sonic: I can't let you do that, Tails. Not now.

OMT!Tails: Then what am I supposed to do?! Just let my only remaining family DIE?!

LM!Sonic just nodded as OMT!Tails turned to OMT!Mina.

OMT!Tails: What about your band? They were close to you, right?

OMT!Mina: Yeah...

OMT!Tails: And you're not gonna do anything if they end up in danger?! Okay, what about Uncle Chuck?

He looked over to CR!Sonic, who looked back wordlessly.

OMT!Tails: Would that have been okay if you knew, and you just... let a villain murder your family?!

CR!Sonic: If not for Chuck, a good handful of us wouldn't even be here, Tails.

He showed some more holograms of big portrayals of Chuck in media, the most prominent being in the aftermath of XE!Sonic leaving XE!Jules for dead.

CR!Sonic: And all the good that we did, it... It wouldn't have been done.

UG!Sonic recalled moments that his brother complained about.

UG!Manic: It's just, well... [Hits a drum] I've been thinking... everything we beat, Butt-nik rebuilds. What's the point? Past UG!Sonic: Hey, we just munched a solid-fuel installation. That's not too shabby. UG!Manic: Yeah, I guess. [Sighs] Seems like nothing really changes.

Manic: Yes, but my question is when? For all we know, it could happen twenty years from now. Why bother?!

Back in the present...

UG!Sonic: So what?! So... In this context LM is trying to enforce, we're just supposed to let people close to us die, just because some ALGORITHM-

E-21 (panicked): Woah, woah!

UG!Sonic: -says that's supposed to happen?! What in the world's wrong with you?!

OMT!Tails: Yeah! You three do realise how outright messed up that sounds, right?!

Zonic: *sigh* Alright, let's all take a moment here. So, think about this, in a way. You've heard HIS talk about a supposed way of doing things, right? Now, you have a choice. A choice between saving someone truly special to you, or saving a world. EVERY world if we're talking on a grander scale. Now, look, I'm not trying to force you to choose here. Nobody can. But what would you personally prioritise, if forced into it?

Almost everyone in the room: Both!

OMT!Tails: I can do BOTH of those things! A hero of Mobius always-!

CR!Sonic: Not... "always".

LM!Sonic: You can't have it all, child. Being the hero of Mobius is a sacrifice. That's the job, the job you signed up for.

Fiona: *sigh* Tails...

LM!Sonic's lot gather around OMT!Tails, with SS!Amy stepping between them.

OMT!Tails: Fiona...? What is this? Are you trying to intervene in my heroics?!

Turbo: We know it's hard, but it's still the truth, Tails.

OMT!Tails: Is that why you're gathering around me and Amy now? To let us down easy?

EV!Sonic: You lot, give them room!

OMT!Tails: It worked last time. Why not run it back, huh?

CR!Sonic: H-Hey, hold on there!

OMT!Tails (glaring at OMT!Mina): You were right, Mina. You should NEVER have gotten me involved in this brainwashed freak's game to begin with! You said yourself that you've no interest in professional work, yet that sorry excuse of a "hero" forced you to work with him anyway!

CR!Sonic: Kid, look at me.

OMT!Tails: Stop calling me that!

Pana: And here we go...

Antho: Yeah. Screw that guy.

D-Sides Mighty: Agreed.

Fiona: Pana, Antho, Mighty, you aren't helping.

Antho, Pana and D-Sides Mighty: Good.

OMT!Tails flashed a smile to those three and the kinder Quill Society members.

CR!Sonic: Please understand-!

OMT!Tails: You CAN'T ask me not to save Cream! My life is meaningless without her!

SS!Amy: Yeah! You can't ask him to play by your rules!

LM!Sonic: I'm not asking you.

LM!Sonic used an energy field to restrain OMT!Tails, which shocked everyone except for LM!Sonic's group. CR!Sonic and OMT!Mina quickly backed off seeing this, reconsidering their words.

OMT!Mina (genuinely scared for OMT!Tails): Stop that!

LM!Sonic: If I let him leave, he'll only cause MORE damage. You both know that!

CR!Sonic: No, man! This is going too far!

CR!Sonia: Yeah, you big meanie! That's enough!

CR!Manik nodded, pulling an angry raspberry at LM!Sonic. Antho, though, had a plan, using a hand gesture to remind Tails to absorb that energy from the sphere.

Antho (quietly): Like this, little dude.

LM!Sonic: We just need to hold you for a few hours! Sorry it had to end like this, kid-.

He heard the charging behind him, turning around in shock.

OMT!Tails: I said not to call me that!

Tails's vision darted around, pinning at LM!Sonic and Turbo, and triggering a blast that knocked them backwards.

UG!Sonic: Woo! Nice one, man!

Antho chuckled in approval.

D-Sides Mighty: That paid off nicely!

Milly: What do we do now?

EV!Sonic: Tails, SS, hurry over to the Transport Hub in Sector 30, and use it to bolt after Crimtake and stop him! Everyone else, be ready to cover them!

LM!Sonic got up, his temper having reached his limit.

LM!Sonic: MILES PROWER!

He leapt at the fox, with SS!Amy promptly hitting him back into the wall before he bolted off.

Antho: If he gets to that Hub first, we're in big trouble!

Tekno: Right! On your way there, Tails, send out a red alert to everyone on the planet to stop LM! And ensure he's baited over to the Terminal Velocity spot at Sector 19. That should buy you both enough distance to reach the Hub first.

OMT!Tails: Right! Come on, Amy!

SS!Amy: Right!

The two dashed off, with Turbo and Fiona in pursuit.

EV!Sonic: Everyone else, dispatch! Apprehend LM through any means necessary!

Sarah (through a communicator to Sonic.RAW): RAW? It's Sarah. I need you to get your gear ready. We've got a rogue to apprehend!

Sonic.RAW: On it right now, ma'am!

Every Quill Society member in the room headed out.

CR!Sonic: Alright.

CR!Manik: Should we help Tails out, dad?

CR!Sonic: Yeah. Sorry I'm doing this to you both... This is definitely bad parenting... Just hang tight!

CR!Sonia: You got it!

Hey, I loved Anne. What LM Montgomery book should I read next?

It's no secret that Anne of Green Gables is far and away LM Montgomery's most famous book. It's the classic; the book you think of when you heard the name LM Montgomery. It's her stereotypical Barbie, if you will. Even if someone has read a book other than Green Gables, it's usually the subsequent books in Anne's series (which is absolutely the right choice). Consequently, diving into the rest of LM Montgomery's work can be overwhelming. There are quite a few series of young women coming into their own, some of which are on Anne's level, and some of which aren't. Even beyond the Emilys and the Pats, there are also books that don't quite fit the mold of Singular Young Heroine Faces Life - The Story Girl features a much broader cast and scope despite its featured heroine Sara.

Because I love LM Montgomery and will talk about her at any point, I wanted to write up a brief summary of her series other than Anne and just try to express their vibes for someone who might be curious as to where to go next. Someone who loves Anne might hate Pat (who, me?), and someone who was tepid on Anne might love Emily. Of course, LM Montgomery is LM Montgomery, so her stories are usually solid regardless - but hey, sometimes you want an eerily witchy story, and sometimes you want a warm and cozy one. Disclaimer that I'm not including LMM's entire canon of work here (ie poems and short stories).

So, with that, let's get started.

Emily of New Moon (3 books)

Did you read the Anne series and think it was a little...Pollyanna-ish? Perhaps you even whipped out that dreaded word, "saccharine." Or maybe you loved it, but you're curious as to what a darker LM Montgomery would be. Say no more. Emily is a gothic, witchy series, with dark undertones of resentment and depression. It's also blatantly autobiographical - like, really, autobiographical - like, LM Montgomery straight up copied passages from her diary into the book autobiographical! The storyline overall does differ from LM Montgomery's life, but Emily dreams of being a writer much like Anne while being much sharper than Anne. It's also more eerie - there are hauntings and second sight events sprinkled throughout the series, along with the aforementioned gothic undertones overall. Yet for all this, it still solidly retains LM Montgomery's flair for cheeky stories and dreamy heroines and embarrassing moments and gentle life lessons. It's a still slice of life; it's just a slice of a darker one.

The Blue Castle (1 book)

Imagine the most generic, trope filled, basic romantic storyline - shy girl gets makeover esque - and then pump it full of LM Montgomery's genius, add in a few screwball twists for the fun of it, and create the most cathartic book ever written. Have a family you can't stand that you just want to tell off sometimes? This book is for you. Want to live that cottagecore life with your soulmate? This book is for you. Daydream of a better life? This book is for you. Love a book with plot twists that you never see coming? Oh boy, this book is for you. This is one of two novels that LM Montgomery writes for adults, and it shows in the material handled. We have unwed mothers, hints at sexual awakenings, sexual harassment, and overall LM Montgomery from an older perspective. The heroine here is 29 at the beginning of the book, an unusual age for an LM Montgomery story to begin. Also, Barney Snaith supremacy. If you loved Gilbert, you'll love Barney too (dare I say perhaps even more). The blue castle is one of LMM's few books where the love interest is one of the main characters too instead of a side plot. It's also a standalone novel, which makes it more accessible in terms of storyline.

Jane of Lantern Hill (1 book)

Lo and behold, another standalone novel! And in my opinion, LM Montgomery's best. Notable for having an actual lion in it (that was based on true events!), Jane of Lantern Hill is a cheerful story of a little girl coming into her own. More practical than the other heroines (Jane is the same girl who dreams of having a potato ricer), Jane stands in a very cozy story that has a parent trap type plot (no trapping involved, but long estranged parents do reunite). It also has one of LM Montgomery's best villains, Jane's Grandmother, who is a chilling example of emotional abuse without any buffoonery or comedy to soften it. If you're looking for a comfort book to read with a cup of tea on a rainy day, this is it. It's not really a romance - romance is the tiniest of plot threads in this - it's a father daughter story bestowed with the typical LM Montgomery magic.

The Story Girl (2 books)

This was LM Montgomery's personal favorite, and it's delightful. It features more of a cast of characters than a main heroine situation, although the main heroine is there, so it's a bit unique in that regard. It's also in first person, and (gasp) that person is a boy. That sets it very apart from her other novels! The Story Girl, as hinted by the name, is very story heavy; it's LM Montgomery telling the story of a crowd of children growing up on PEI, yes, but it's also her delving into fairy tales and urban legends (PEI style) and local history. If you really liked the Hester Gray chapters from Anne, you'll probably like this quite a bit; the novel takes the same sort of delving approach but with a broader focus (we hear stories of princes and stories of neighbors). It also, unlike her other novels, is a memory. Bev, our narrator, is a grown man recounting his childhood - something acknowledged in the first book and emphasized in the second. Without any romance in it (besides of course, in the stories) and with a broader character focus (Sara is our heroine, but she's one of a group, and not the narrator), this novel veers away from the typical tightly focused LM Montgomery coming of age formula. It's group shenanigans rather than a personal journey.

Pat of Silver Bush (2 books)

Ah, Pat. Oh, Pat. I suggest reading these after you read the rest of LM Montgomery's work. Pat is interesting because the narrative tells us one thing, and Pat's actions tell us another. It's a book to read and analyze as an LM Montgomery novel, in my opinion, rather than a book to read to enjoy. It's good - it features one of my favorite LM Montgomery heroes in Jingle - but Pat is frenetic and depressed, to the point the novel's attempted cheerfulness skitters into mania. It's an LM Montgomery that doesn't stick the landing, which makes where it does land all the more interesting. LM Montgomery loves characterizing houses - in this the house is a character to the point where it's almost ominous. It's LM Montgomery but with an unintentional offkey chord that makes for unpleasant reading but fascinating examination.

Rilla of Ingleside (1 book, from Anne's series)

Including this because she's technically a different heroine than Anne - this is a war novel. It's LM Montgomery, but it's also a war novel. It's Anne, and it's a heartbroken Anne. It's also LM Montgomery's magnum opus (at least in my humble opinion). It's gritty in a way all of LM Montgomery's books aren't; it's an account of WWI from a unique perspective of a girl on PEI (and account is the word for it - there's discussion of specific battles and events date by date). The theme of WWI pops up frequently in LM Montgomery's later books, all of them building up to this book - read it and you'll appreciate the beginning Anne books all the more, because you know where they end.

The Blythes are Quoted (1 book, from Anne's series)

Do you really, really want more Anne? You've read all the books multiple times, hunted down the short stories where she's referenced, and you still want more? You're in luck, because this book was published in 2009, over half a century after LM Montgomery died. It's full of short stories that offer glimpses of the Blythes growing up, but it also has stories that take place after WWI, and it has interludes with the Blythe family written in a script format (think reading a play). It's cutting - these are not happy interludes - but it adds a rich dimension to Anne's story, and gives another glimpse at what happened to the characters.

Other

There are a scattering of other novels - Magic for Marigold, A Tangled Web - along with hundreds of short stories. I'd save these for last. These vary wildly in quality and so you're as likely to hit a dud as a diamond in the rough. There are a few incredible short stories that are LM Montgomery at her best, but there's also quite a lot of odd ones that can get downright uncomfortable. Magic for Marigold and A Tangled Web hit the same issues, growing uncomfortably sexist/racist at points. If you are determined to read all of LM Montgomery's work (hey, I've been there), these are solid stories but there are better ones.

TWP: my arthurian headcanon pt.3

A plea for help: This one... hurts. I don't want her to go that way but as of right now i don't see her story going anywhere else.

Livia Blackthorn, fourth of the Seven Blackthorn Siblings: unfortunately, yes, i have to make the comparison with Morgana Le Fay. Historically, Morgana gives in to her thirst for power and becomes the antagonist (this hurts, i hate it) of Arthur (no) and Merlin's (please, god, no) quests.

However. (Let's take a deep breath.) In some versions, Morgana used to be Merlin's apprentice and once he grew tired of her, he inadvertently turned her evil.

I don't like it, i really don't, but let's face it: things are already going sideways for her as a ghost. She was gone, presumably to rest in peace with her parents and now she is a literal haunting, she can't communicate with her other loved ones and the forbidden magic is already taking it's toll on her mind - to the point that she nurtured thoughts of possessing not only a baby, but also her own sister.

In life, she wanted to be bonded do Ty, to have their own adventures, to discover the world together - she hated the idea of going to Scholomance since LM because Centurions can't have parabatai.

In death, she is chained to him, and that heavy chain seems to be steadily bringing her down. She is forced to follow Ty wherever he goes not because they made an oath, but because she scarcely exists by herself.

There is a great part of me who wonders if she'll resent it someday or if bigger forces are going to use her to their own ends, and the rest of me hopes she remains the same Livvy i love. Deep down i know she isn't what she used to be. She'll never be that girl again because that girl is gone.

Okay, let's do a retrospective here - childhood through current.

1 - Anne of Green Gables, LM Montgomery Anne my beloved.

2 - Alanna series, Tamora Pierce Team George all the way - also possibly my introduction to the genre of girl dresses up like a boy to do fun things and save the world. Also, not for nothing but Alanna has relationships with three different men in the series and does not get slut shamed for it, which for a bunch of books I read in like middle school is pretty cool.

3 - Dark is Rising, Susan Cooper Will/Bran might have been my first ship before I even knew what I was doing. Also they are fantastic fantasy - and for the love of God do not ever watch the travesty of a movie.

4- Lord Peter Wimsey, Dorothy L Sayers I'm not picking just one - but I guess if I had to pick I'd pick the four with Harriet Vane. I met Peter Wimsey in high school, and basically he's been my benchmark for men ever since.

5 - Little Thieves, Margaret Owen Retelling of the Goose Girl from the perspective of the Goose Girl. Trauma and recovery and nuance. Also, a heist.

6 - Red White & Royal Blue, Casey McQuiston I read this when it came out and literally stopped in the middle of my commute to text my roommate 'they're fighting in a closet!'. Also, first book I managed to reread all the way through about four months into the pandemic. Still a comfort read.

7 - Raven Cycle, Maggie Stiefvater I have read and listened to these book so many times, I can't even tell you. (cheating but also Scorpio Races)

8 - Barbed Wire Heart, Tess Sharpe I love everything she writes (and she narrates her own audiobooks and it's cool to hear her voice do them) - If you ever watched Justified, this is kind of like an exploration of someone like Mags Bennett - morally grey but on the side of right.

9 - Goblin Emperor, Katherine Addison Intimate fantasy about learning how to be emperor, and learning how to be the kind of emperor you want to be when you weren't ever supposed to be emperor. And yes, there are lots of stories like this - but this one doesn't come with an epic quest, or a big battle, it's just the slow battles of politics and council meetings (and they build a really cool bridge).

Did you ever read the LMM short story 'The Growing Up of Cornelia'? It has another Dean figure (Sidney, a tall dark man who is a ~cynic and ~detests society) straight down to the age gap, although here I can't decide if it's better or worse haha. I adore the first line: "Aunt Jemima gave me this diary for a Christmas present. It's just the sort of gift a person named Jemima would be likely to make."

I actually hadn’t read this (or if I had I absolutely forgot) but why does it feel like LM Montgomery wrote a Jo March x Dean Priest crossover. Cornelia—or even better, “Nic”—is so exactly the kind of girl heroine I was obsessed with as a child. Honestly, I’d have LOVED to read a whole book about her, I’m sad she only got a short romantic story.

But Sidney is absolutely the Dean/David/Barney prototype (since I see this story was published in 1908, so LMM had put that together earlier than I thought)—deeply Gothic with the house and the grounds and everything. Also the previous engagement that gets Nic jealous, very Valancy about Ethel Traverse of her. Love to see LMM cannibalizing herself this way.

I also can’t decide if Sidney is worse for wishing Nic is young vs Dean waiting for Emily to be old, though they express happiness at the effect the youthfulness of both girls have on them which is. Alright Mr Midlife Crisis. And that final paragraph about “what happened after that isn’t fit to be in a diary.” 👀 ok I see you Maud.

LM au: little mermaid skirfluff i've written like. a lot for this shockingly. i lied actually it was only 7k ish words but i've drawn a LOT for it. the whole thing is a lot. go through the lm au tag if you're really interested but tldr mermaids, homosexuals, shadow kirby makes one really stupid decision and it pays the fuck off, dmk is homophobic and got a divorce, prince fluff goes through way too much for a happy ending for real. yin and yarn go through a lot too but they're ultimately good guys. also kin-yarn is canon and somewhat plot relevant, as during the climax they figure out what skirby really is since KINE fuck you. hate and war.

FLIPPEd LM au: very different and not explored super in depth. it's not actually based off the little mermaid really. just makes prince fluff a mermaid who is really homosexual and shadow kirby some guy. yin and yarn are bad guys in this one, since fluff leaves them in charge of everything while he turns himself human to convince skirby to be homogay with him. they then take over but things get better.

western: it's this whole thing and one of those big aus that basically change the whole story and it's like go write a book but no i don't. i haven't posted about it enough to talk about it actually. tldr the mirror world is a physical place, and the mirror worlders start essentially a tiny war with their counterparts. dmk steals galaxia and then gets chased into the fairy lands (k64 land, which hasn't really happened yet), shadow kirby takes a lot of L's then wow what a surprise prince fluff is here, shadow dedede gets his house blown up because dmk and skirby blew up Chateau Dedede (to get galaxia).

anime skirby: Shadow kirby either voluntarily or involuntarily is sent to the animeverse during star allies and grows as a person. he and anime kirby bond and have a cute adoptive brother thing going on and it's the best part of the whole thing. skirby being sent there ultimately puts the world in danger because of how nightmare from the anime works but it all turns out okay in the end'

the unnamed au in which KATAM is delayed until after star allies, but around the time when KATAM should have happened dark mind still appears and takes full control of the mirror world: read the title. uhhh shadow kirby got split into 4 different dudes, shadow dedede is possessed forever and is reduced to a mindless pawn to keep all four of them in check, dark meta knight is girlbossing and thriving and driven by his own ego. the mirror worlders kidnap meta knight to provoke everyone and also for the lols. everyone gets their ass thoroughly kicked. all of the star allies go home happy. prince fluff is a star ally in dmk's place which really isn't relevant but i think it's fun.

evil prince fluff aus: this has so many like offshoots but the main two are: he's gay and evil AND he's just evil. in the gay ones he's usually snapped and lost his shit and decided if he can't be homosexual he's just going to take over the world. in the non-gay ones he's probably possessed by one of the uhh jamba heart things that showed up during star allies. usually yin-yarn is involved regardless of the variant, and he eggs fluff on and works with him (planning to just take over and use him as a puppet eventually)

nightmare scenario: the most out there shit ever actually. nightmare has feelings and is more of a person beyond being a being that only exists to cause nightmares and be bad and stinky and evil. he finds patchland and sets up camp there since it has a dream fountain hidden away from everyone on that planet, and dreamland is close enough on a planetary level that he can hop to the dream fountain there. he creates prince fluff for fun and accidentally brings him to life by dropping him in the dream fountain. Nightmare proceeds to have a custody battle with some fucking guy, he then goes off to be evil and is killed by kirby, then everything else happens as normal and Prince Fluff generally grows up to be haunted by who his father is. nightmare is actually for real dead so over time the universe is shifting the burden of existing as a manifestation of nightmares onto him, which sucks because he's trying to be a good person despite his instincts to do crime. for gay purposes this makes everything SUPER FUCKING COMPLICATED. also prince fluff is hiding who made him from everyone and acting like he doesn't know.

298,956. Lower than I would have expected, actually. My longfic days were primarily, again, in high school, so on AO3 it's mostly shorter one-shots.

3-What fandoms do you write for?

Currently on a Blue Castle kick. Previously my main fandom was Les Mis, mostly bookverse, and prior to that I spent a decade or so as a Harry Potter girl. I have dabbled in other things, but none of them deeply enough for me to consider them actual fandoms that I am in.

4-What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

In the darkest time of year -- Hadestown, post-canon. I believe this is also the fic with the most notes on tumblr.

The Black Sheep and the Mad Muggleborn: a love story -- HP, post-canon. I really liked writing this one and, like all my HP work, now have deeply conflicted feelings about it.

And I could be enough -- Power Rangers 2017, character study. I only wrote 2 fics for this movie and I adore them both so much.

Stormforged -- ASOIAF, alternate ending. This was written for Femslash February and represents the sum total amount of time I have spent thinking about ASOIAF since reading the first four books in a week during standardized testing week back in high school.

5-Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I am trying to be better about this! For a long time I didn't because I hated everything I wrote the moment I published it and the only way I could publish at all was to throw a fic out the door and never think of it again.

6-What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

You know, I'm not sure. I haven't done full on angst in a long time. Probably either Waiting for sunrise (LM) or With nothing to remember (also LM). Honorable mention goes to Real in its consequences (still LM) which exists solely to take a ridiculous premise seriously.

7-What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

It's new and still my beautiful child, so this one goes to Ties That Bind, Bonds That Strengthen (TBC).

Oh! Honorable mention to The title of citizen (LM Animates-verse). It's... it just has to be read to be understood, tbh.

8-Do you get hate on fics?

Not since the old aforementioned high school era ffn account, where I once got flamed for writing het. Ah, the good old days. (It wasn't even endgame het, lol.)

9-Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Nope. I've played with some fade to black and a couple, like, sensuous bed scenes, but I find it boring to read so I don't write it.

10-Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have come to love crossovers, honestly. I like putting characters into Situations. Can't think of any particularly crazy ones though.

11-Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I've ever found or been told about, although realistically with how much I've written and how long I've been doing it I'm sure there are some out there.

12-Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, but I can't off the top of my head remember which ones, unfortunately.

13-Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No. I am a dreadful co-writer. I will, however, build a world with you at the drop of a hat. Shout out to @steelplatedhearts for the PoTC mermaid worldbuilding we did years and years ago that I still think about fondly.

14-What's your all-time favourite ship?

It varies. Right now unfortunately it's the two leads from the Forbidden Hugs story, which is unfinished original fiction. Fandom wise, I still like me some Logic and Philosophy.

15-What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Anything started earlier than this year, unfortunately.

16-What are your writing strengths?

I like to think I have gotten decent at having an entertaining narrative voice without it being too distracting.

17-What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot? What plot? Plot is when people sit in rooms and have conversations about their feelings, right? What do you mean Events must occur? I'm calling my manager, this doesn't sound right at all.

18-Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Mostly feels needlessly pretentious, honestly. I don't know if I've ever really even considered it.

19-First fandom you wrote for?

HP, starting at age, oh, 14 or so.

20-Favorite fic you've ever written?

Again, Ties That Bind is still my beloved child, but I have a huge soft spot for both Power Rangers (2017) fics. Oh, and underdog fav status to Never go anywhere, never see anyone, the nichest of niche crossovers where Mary Bolkonskaya befriends doesn't-even-get-a-canonical-first-name Aunt Gillenormand.

I will never get over the bridge, "I wake with your memory that's a real fucking legacy to leave." I lm sorry, taylor needs to be put in jail for that one.

It's criminal how good this song is.

That being said, yeah, welcome to new york is one of the saddest songs for me to listen to because in retrospect, it was SO LOUD for who she was at the time + the era we lived in politically. I also can't stop thinking about the miss Americana quote where she says something along the lines of "that was my whole belief system... I had to dismantle that in order to truly find happiness" and how she must have felt so pressured to stay in the closet and she probably did cry "15 million tears" and "begged until my knees bled" I can't stop thinking about all of this since I took a second glance at hoax and hurt myself with how sad the lens I took was.

I've kind of headcanoned the kaylor situation as they date, kissgate happens and karlie wants to be public finally and maybe taylor decides to leave her record label after that because we know that she was already fighting with her label by reputation over the masters (she put it in the reputation tour film, which came out way before we knew anything, and her remixing I did something bad rumored to be about her record label esp the second verse in karma kind of proves this friction existed already) so once the phone call drama happened, I think they broke up officially (maybe, there was a rejected proposal in there idk I'm 50/50) and then she left her record label anyways, even though karlie was not her partner anymore because they were on semi good terms until lover since there was that concert karlie went to in 2018 and karlie somehow betrayed her in the masters situation/refused to let taylor speak about their relationship (realistically, I think this is why she didn't come out during lover because she can't really come out without her past ex girlfriends being okay with being associated with her, especially karlie) and now that taylor put out both folklore and evermore where she was brutally honest about her fuck up in kaylor, I think karlie reached out to apologize and I think they've managed to reconcile most of their history together.

But yeah, it makes me so sad to listen to welcome to new york. Idk if she will change lyrics to 1989 but she should change it to "and I can want who I want, boys and boys and girls and girls" I think that would be kind of full-circle.
