Watch a ton of shit last week because didn't feel good.
The Girl With All The Gifts One of the best "go in blind" recommendations in a long, long time.
It came from a short story named Iphigenia In Aulis later turned into a full novel. Ray Bradbury system if I've ever seen one.
It seemed like everyone was doing fungus zombies after the 2008 PLANET EARTH episode on zombie ants. Last of Us is better, but this is still good even if the ending sucks.
Studio 666 I had to turn it off. You dudes are musicians, not actors. The ego of trying to do this was a bit too much for me to handle.
Outlast s01 I absolutely despised this shit. There were no clearly defined rules of interacting with other teams. Turns out, completely randomly, you're allowed to go into someone's camp and destroy their shit right in front of them and the other person had to sit back and watch you. Even though I pirated it, I want to sue Netflix for how bullshit this was.
All Things Must Pass It's a very cool documentary and extremely thought provoking. Also, I don't feel sorry for these fucking shitheads. It's plainly clear they should've got into the business of producing alongside distributing, had not been so greedy, but whatever.
The greedy businessman bullshit like stopping the sell of singles to force people to buy albums, pushing CDs because larger profit margin, not realizing what the fuck an mp3 was, and endless expansion (debt) because "muh growth."
I'm not super down for live music because I generally don't like it, but I'm not going to ignore how important live music is and a space for live music. I just love how these greedy fucks were directly responsible for napster and later itunes and then spotify and now back to napster.
STATION ELEVEN The theme of art and humanity transcending time, place, and generations.
The use of color to help the viewer understand where in time they were: before, during, after.
The perfection and blend of a clockwork and puzzle plot with a braided narrative. I was, quite literally, losing my mind the final two episodes.
I want to pinpoint the brilliant and wonderful winter solstice episode exploring the concept of 9 months after lockdown when all these women were giving birth at the same time.
I could write about this endlessly.
The only bad thing I will say is that it dragged at times, but I feel like that is me being too ignorant of Shakespeare's work to be realizing analogies / the adaptation from same.
SWARM. I'm not privy enough with Beyonce lore fully understand it, but it's still really, really good. The Billie Eilish episode was just utterly insane.
I almost turned it off so many times in the first two episodes because of how uncomfortable it made me feel and how creepy it seemed. I'm glad I kept at it and fought through my cringe. I wish I had someone to tell me the soft spoiler of "she's a butch lesbian and Marissa is her foster sister." It would have helped to put into context what erroneously seemed to be incredibly weird and creepy scenes otherwise.
Blood Quantum The sweet justice of American fracking ruining Native American's water supply causing all the Americans who drink it to turn into zombies while Native Americans remain immune. There's so many layers to that. Hell, that sounds like real life right now.
Blending that with the newfound Native American power of fuck the white man v. no lets help them a la Xavier v. Magneto split.
It was a great idea and concept, but those unique parts were not leaned into hard enough while dumb shit zombie fight sequences we've seen a million times took center stage instead.
Run Lola Run I haven't seen this since 8th grade. It's a short and sweet movie that gives another great take on the Chaos Theory. The soundtrack is phenomenally good. Not minimalist, but still 90s german techno af.
Doom Patrol I saw the DC logo on the opener and almost turned it off. "No no no I heard Brendan Fraser is in it give it a shot." Kept watching, opening sequences talking about "You're sick of comic book heroes we know! So we made comic book heroes who are SCREW UPS!" And I thought⌠Misfits? Misfits was greatâŚ
15 minutes later: It's just more comic book hero bullshit. Fuck that.
The Miseducation of Cameron Post I can't relate to this at all other than to endlessly bang my head against the wall and again point out how fucking incongruent these religious fuckers are and what they do to people. I kept thinking back over and over to Dead Poets Society.

âTechno, can you do anything with your hair?â Tommy asked, glaring at him from across the table.
Techno selfâconsciously ran his fingers through his ponytail. Heâd only spent two months in the army before heâd left at the ripe old age of thirteen, refusing to fight for a cause he didnât believe in. Heâd left with his hair just above his shoulders, and the only thing heâd been able to do with it was tie it back with a leather band. During his three years on the run, it had never really occurred to him to cut itâin fact, heâd grown to rather like itâbut running alone had never given any opportunities to learn fancy new hairstyles.Â
He felt his cheeks burn as Wilbur kicked Tommy under the table, muttering âdonât be rude.â
âNo. Surprisingly, Tommy, between the Nether, the army, and being a wanted mercenary, I never got the opportunity to play dress up,â Techno said, putting a little more bite behind his words than was required.
âAlright, Big Man, I didnât mean anything by it. Well, I did, which wasâdo you want me to teach you?â
Techno narrowed his eyesâin the two weeks heâd been living with him, the biggest thing heâd learned was that Tommy always loved a good prank. âTeach me what?â
âHow to braid your hair. Trust me, it holds a lot better than your tailsâand is more comfortable, apparently.â
Techno looked at Wilbur, who shrugged. âHe used to practise on our motherâs hair, beforeâŚâ Wilbur trailed off, eyes unfocusing for a second. âI donât know if he still can, though, so itâs your choice.â
Techno thought about the sheer amount of times his hair had come loose in battle, and then the strands already pulling loose. He took out the band, massaging the part of his head that ached from the ponytail and combing out the hair with his fingers. âAs long as youâre just braiding itâŚI donât see why not.â
Tommy grinned, up in an instant. âGod, I havenât done this in forever. I hope I donât accidentally knot your hairââ Tommy raised his hands and backed away as Techno stood, one hand on his sword. âIt was a joke, Techno. Iâm not that bad.â
Techno watched him warily, before sitting in the chair again. He tensed as Tommyâs fingers first touched his hair, surprisingly gentle as they untangled the knots. He hadnât let anyone touch his hair inâŚ
A gentle laugh, bright in the dim redness of the Nether.
âI donât know how you have such long hair, at such a young age,â Technoâs mother said, running her hands through it. âAnd such a vibrant colour, too! You donât get this sort of beauty in the Nether.â
Techno didnât say anything, but smiled at the red walls of their house. She pulled his hair into a tight bun, before patting his cheek.Â
âSo that it doesnât interfere with training.â
âThanks, mom,â Techno drawled, rolling his eyes, but unable to keep the smile away from his lips.Â
The bun had held true, all the way through training.Â
Through the Generalâs questions, as he watched Techno spar.Â
It had held, right until the General had taken a knife to it without warning.Â
When Technoblade had emerged from the bloodlust, his hands were red, and clutching a leather band.
Techno shut his eyes, pushing the emotions down, as Tommy ran his fingers through Technoâs hair again.
âSo you see, Techno, you take a section up here, at the top, and split it into three. Then you tuck this one underâŚâ
Techno tuned out Tommyâs wordsâhe was sure Tommy could tell him again afterâand allowed him to continue down his head, pulling sections into the braid until it dangled down his back, reaching his waist.
âYour hair tie, Techno?â
Techno fingered the leather band, currently wrapped around his wrist, then looked at Tommyâwho had seen Techno in that dirty alley, seen past the blades and the words and trusted him enough to bring him to Wil and Phil, who had treated him like family despite only knowing him two weeks.Â
Techno handed over the leather band.

C!crimeboys headcanonsâ
a/n: I did this while watching wilburs final lore stream, but Tommy finally got his official apology o7 everyone.
â˘Just before Wilbur left for Utah, He gave Tommy his jacket/coat and Tommy have Wilbur his bandana (is its called that?)
â˘Wilbur has both a American and British accent, which Tommy picked up on, so from time to time when he's talking about something he's excited for, his accent changed to American for a bit
â˘Tommy and Wilbur write to each other by using parrots. Both of them have a pet parrot who deliver letters to the other
â˘Younger Tommy use to have his hair braided by Wilbur, so everytime Tommy is worried, Wilbur will braid his hair
â˘Tommy does have curly hair but he's found something to straighten it out with, which he's done since exile arc
â˘Tommy got the name shrould from Wilbur, since Wilbur had a pet fish named that at one stage
â˘Tommy could see Wilbur in his Limbo and they'd talk using gestures
â˘The first people Wilbur went to find after he was revived was Tommy
â˘Tommy used white dye in his hair to match with Wilbur, however it's on the back of his hair, so it's hard to see
â˘Wilbur use to make Tommy breakfast when Techno and Phil were busy
â˘Tommy references to Wilbur when he's talking to someone on the dsmp
â˘Wilbur was the first one to arrive just before Dream got sent to prison
â˘Wilbur taught Tommy how to salute properly since Tommy use to salute with his posture wrong + using the wrong hand
â˘Tommy's the one who cut Wilburs' hair when he got revived since it was kinda long
â˘Tommy has started copying Wilburs stance
â˘Wilbur keeps a picture of him and Tommy in his pocket at all times
â˘Tommy misses Wilbur everyday, so he writes in a book that he'll hope to give to Wilbur one day
â˘Wilbur/Ghostbur didn't trust tubbo at all after he exiled Tommy
â˘Tommy hopes to end up with Wilbur again in another life where things were meant to be.

I have finally decided to get all the thoughts and ideas down for the Dream SMP Soul Eater au I have. Most of these ideas are from a convo I had with @bargledblocks back in January, but some ideas I have come up with myself since then. Also, because I said I would, @myketheartista, here is that au I mentioned during one of Shepâs streams...
Also, I am open to not only talking about other ideas involving the Dream SMP members here, but also Hermitcraft, Yogscast, and Team Crafted members, if anyone wants
Pretty much canon divergent from the original Soul Eater plot. Treaty with Witches where the only Witch souls allowed to be taken are those who are actively harming people, peaceful Witches can live and do work anywhere, including DWMA. Also, fuck canon, Witches can be any gender. Kishins are pretty much the same as in the series. Minecraft non-boss hostile mobs exist as monsters summoned by Kishins and evil Witches. DWMA as a school has up to traditionally college aged students/classes, and has a few elementary age students/classes, mostly Weapons learning control.
-Death Family-
Philza: The God of Death. Physically in his early 30s while in human form, thousands of years old in reality. Only uses his God form when acting as Lord Death, otherwise prefers his human form. Principle of DWMA. 5'11 in human form and 10' in God form.
Kristen: An immortal crow Witch. Married to Philza. No one quite knows how Kristen gained her immortality. Often encourages pranks. Vice principle of DWMA.
Dream: Phil's first biological son. The first Kishin with a literal cult following. Physically in his early twenties, is actually about a thousand years old. Barely escaped being sealed with major injuries, went into hiding for a long while. Can shift minor parts of his appearance as well as his physical age. Resurfaces several years before the story pretending to be an orphan, adopted by Puffy. Posing as a meister.
Ranboo: Philâs second biological son. 15-16. Hair is half black and half white due to being a Grim Reaper. Is also heterochromatic, with his right eye being green and his left eye being red. Has memory problems and blacking out episodes from an unknown source Dream. Used to occasionally wield Techno and Wilbur, until circumstances involving Dream caused Tommy to no longer be able to resonate with Tubbo, which causes Ranboo to become Tubboâs meister later on. 6'6.
Technoblade: Adopted by Phil as a toddler alongside his twin, Wilbur. Older by two minutes. An axe weapon, but usually prefers to wield Wilbur. Sometimes lets Ranboo act as a meister to him and Wilbur. Early twenties. Naturally pink really long hair in a braid. Needs glasses to read. Sleeps a lot. History and English nerd. A very skilled meister.
Wilbur: Adopted by Phil as a toddler alongside his twin, Technoblade. Younger by two minutes. An axe weapon, usually wielded by Techno. Can temporarily match wavelengths with anyone. Early twenties. Knows how to braid hair. Natural pink hair, dyes it brown. Wears glasses because his vision is shit. Theater kid to the extreme. Grigori soul
Tommy: Adopted by Phil as an infant after being found in the ruins of a town attacked by a Witch. A chakram weapon. 15-16. Formally wielded by Tubbo until the incident involving Dream, is now partnered with Purpled. Very loud. Limited knowledge in how to self wield.
-Meisters-
Punz: Early twenties. Purpled's older sibling (he/they). Can temporarily match Soul Wavelengths with anyone, can't use Soul Resonance. Infected by Black Blood.
Purpled: 15-16. Punz's younger brother. Became Tommy's meister when Tommy was rescued from Dream. Stays in the dorms, even though Punz has an apartment.
Sam: Late 30s. Ponk's meister and husband. George's adoptive father. Combat teacher at DWMA, also head of the school's security. 7'4 for some reason. Almost got infected with Black Blood through Ponk, but managed to not get affected.Â
Bad: Late 30s, assumingly. Skeppy's meister and husband. Sapnap's adoptive father. History teacher at DWMA, also part of the school's security. 9'6 because he isn't human. Infected with Black Blood.
Niki Nihachu: 17-18. Jack's meister. Sweet but deadly. Stays in an apartment with Jack. Dyed pink hair.
Karl Jacobs: Looks to be early twenties. Sapnapâs meister as well as boyfriend, along with Quackity. Sort of just, showed up one day, with no memories other than his name. Has multicolored purple and green eyes. Stays in an apartment with Sapnap and Quackity. Very good at writing stories, although they are unsettlingly close to actual historical events.
-Weapons-
Ponk: Late 30s. Giant garden shears weapon. Sam's partner and husband. George's other adoptive father. Second combat teacher at DWMA. Infected with Black Blood.
Skeppy: Late 30s. Scimitar weapon with a blue blade. Bad's partner and husband. Sapnap's other adoptive father. Natural bright blue hair. Infected with Black Blood through Bad.
Jack Manifold: 17-18. Rocket launcher weapon. Niki's partner. Right eye is blue and left eye is red. Wears 3D glasses. Stays in an apartment with Niki.
Schlatt: Late 30s. A bladed shepherd's crook weapon. North American Death Scythe, Philâs personal weapon since 12 years before the story. For some reason, has ram horns. Secretly working with the Cult of Dream. Adopted Tubbo at the insistence of Phil, cares for Tubbo distantly, but not enough to not betray everyone later on.
Jordan Sparklez: Deceased. A trident weapon. Formerly the North American Death Scythe and Philâs personal weapon. Tubboâs biological father. Was considered too much of a threat to be alive, so was lured out on a solo mission and then vanished.
George: Early twenties. A greatsword weapon. Dreamâs partner. Adoptive son of Sam and Ponk. Colorblind. Stays behind at first when Dreamâs secret is discovered and he is forced to leave, but eventually leaves to join him.
Sapnap: Early twenties. Flamethrower weapon. Karlâs partner and boyfriend, along with Quackity. Adoptive son of Bad and Skeppy. Prone to arson. Stays in an apartment with Karl and Quackity. Used to be close friends with Dream, feels betrayed when Dream leaves. Likes pandas.
Tubbo: Adopted by Schlatt after the disappearance of his father when he was three. Half trident weapon. 15-16, is a few months older than the rest of the minors. Used to be Tommy's meister until the incident involving Dream, is now partnered with Ranboo. Natural brunet but dyes his hair blonde. Shortest of the minors. Feral. Grigori soul.
-Witches-
Puffy: Late 30s. Sheep witch. Adoptive mother to Dream, Foolish, and Michelle. Has rainbow colored hair, ram horns, and light green goat eyes. Works as a counselor/therapist in Death City.
Fundy: Late teens. Fox witch. Has fox ears and tail. Mostly just pulls pranks on students of DWMA and other Death City residents. For some reason, calls Phil âgrandpaâ and somehow got Wilbur to act like his father. Used to have a crush on Dream.
Quackity: Early twenties. Duck witch. Has duck wings. Karl and Sapnapâs other boyfriend, lives in a Death City apartment with them. Has a scar on his face that goes over his left eye, rendering him blind in that eye. Tends to join Fundy in pulling pranks.
Antfrost: Early twenties?. Cat witch. Has cat ears and tail, as well as able to transform into a cat. Stays with Bad and Skeppy. Part of DWMAâs security team. Gets infected with Black Blood.
-Other-
Foolish: Seemingly early twenties. No one actually knows what he is, but he is a true god of life. Can manipulate his age and appearance aside from his bright emerald eyes and sharp teeth. Wanted to experience life like a mortal.

The Shimizu womenâ Yumi, Miwako, and Kasumi for the headcanons?
Headcanon Game
YUMI
What they smell like: eggs and cheese (at least when sheâs working the bento stand); on her own time she smells like cotton candy body spray
How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): She has adorable matching pajama sets and braids her hair with ribbons too. To her, fashion is just as important when youâre asleep. Tries to fall asleep looking cute with her hands under her cheek but always wakes up curled into a ball on her stomach and wrapped in her covers.
What music they enjoy: sheâs learned to like the latest techno and j-pop since thatâs what plays at the expo center all day, but personally she prefers mariah carey and whitney houston
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: 30 minutes - sheâs learned to do her makeup and hair well in a hurry (or on the train) as she has to open her booth for the morning rush
Their favorite thing to collect: phone charms
Left or right-handed: Right
Religion (if any): she picks up pieces that appeal to her from multiple religions
Favorite sport: She loves ogling the players in menâs water polo. And she can bowl. Sure her ball is seven pounds and bright pink, but her average is over 200.
Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc):Â Takes pictures non-stop and looks for the best nightlife spots.
Favorite kind of weather: Sunny summer days (it gives her a chance to whip out parasols that match her outfits)
A weird/obscure fear they have: going blind
The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: Sheâs super lucky at roulette and raffles.
MIWAKO
What they smell like: aloe vera and essential oils
How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): She HAS to have insomnia. How else could she work a 19 hour shift every single day with the front desk open from 6 am to 1 am? Granted, Nancy can only see her after 7 pm so itâs possible Takai or Rentaro work the desk in the morning and afternoon, but itâd be just like Miwako to martyr herself as the sole concierge. She gets off desk duty, changes into her pajamas and lies down on her pallet with lavender oil on the pillow for calm and soothing scents, but then she just never falls completely asleep. She lies there drifting in and out until 5 am. She gets up, showers, presses her suit, grabs a simple breakfast and caffeinated tea, and goes to work.
What music they enjoy: the tranquility meditation music in public, screaming death metal in private (itâs how she really feels inside from her customer service job)
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: An efficient 20 minutes, including shower.
Their favorite thing to collect: Fidgets. She has cubes, spinners, fans, putty, slinkies, and balls (plus the puzzle box gets opened at least 50 times a day as she sits at the desk).Â
Left or right-handed: Left
Religion (if any): Shinto
Favorite sport: Fencing
Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc):Â taking carriage rides or trolleys through the city
Favorite kind of weather: Spring when itâs still a little cold out, but sunny skies
A weird/obscure fear they have: Bees and wasps
The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: tossing a ping pong ball into a fishbowl
KASUMI
What they smell like: pleasant perfume
How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): Her undiagnosed depression had her sleep long hours on some days and not at all on others. On the nights when she couldnât sleep, she designed a puzzle that she hoped would bring her quarreling daughters together and installed the pieces in the ryokan.
What music they enjoy: the Beatles and any mix tapes her friend Mary Ann sent her
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: A woman with a business, a live-in elderly parent, and two young daughters? 10 minutes.
Their favorite thing to collect: letters from her pen pal
Left or right-handed: Left (itâs a connection Miwako loves to have to her mom even though being a lefty has its challenges)
Religion (if any): traditional Shinto with a bit of Universalism perspective from her American pen pal
Favorite sport: mini-golf (when she learned about the game, she set up courses all through Takaeâs beautiful garden, occasionally causing destruction with the ball and club.)
Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Buying souvenir t-shirts. Sheâd wear them for mom activities and whenever she started to feel trapped at the ryokan.
Favorite kind of weather: early spring - the sakura blossoms were her favorite thing about living outside the major cities because there were just so many of the blooming trees
A weird/obscure fear they have: needles
The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: reaching into a closed box and identifying whatâs inside

I think, personally, it represents C!Dreamâs slow decent into madness because it starts with you seeing his face and you can see his scar from the duel animation covered in a plaster, or bAnD aId for the americans, (duel continuity my beloved) and it goes to him being covered by the mask, but you can easily tell that heâs a person, to the most recent animation where he seems more of a cryptid than a person.
This animation takes place around the same time as exile, so Dream has cut off ties to all worldy possessions except Tommy who heâs manipulating, which I think is reflected in his design. You can barely make out his face, and you canât tell where the hell his body starts and his cloak ends. Heâs removed himself from the world and he seems a lot less human compared to before.
AND, as I mentioned duel continuity before, Technoâs hair length mirrors time passage from the duel.
So we have
The original cut from the Dream vs Technoblade animation
Then this
From âThe fallâ showing how time had passed since it had been cut
And then not much growth here but stull
Just the addition of a braid
And finally, hog hunt,
Where weâre blessed with this design where we can see time has passed because Technoâs hair is a lot longer compared to other times and I donât just think itâs because he has it down in the last frame.
AND THE TOTEM SCENE! HIS WHOLE HEAD WAS RECONSTRUCTED BY THE TOTEM OH MY GOD!
In conclusion, SAD-ist supremacy.
OBSESSED with the symbolism in sad-ists dream design. mans really went from
^ this, from âthe fallâ
^ to this, from âdawn of the 16thâ
to THIS, from âhog huntâ?
holy shit. the design changes, and what it represents, is STUNNING. i will not stop talking about this

Dream SMP fans, if u were in the Syndicate, what would your Syndicate codename be???
So far the requirements seem to be
Connection to Greek Mythology
Relatively obscure
Connection to death (Protesilaus was the first to die at Troy, Lethe is a river in the Underworld, Harpocrates was a god who represents the reborn sun, etc)
So go Ham ig, put it in the tags or on the post.

Earlier today I came to the horrifying realization that Achievement Hunter is simply the reverse/inverse Sleepy Bois I mean
SBI:
Small group
Hyper competent at Minecraft
Token American (Techno)
Skew young (Philza is the eldest at 33)
Lean towards modern pop culture
AH:
Fuckin huge group
TERRIBLE AT MINECRAFT
(Like wtf guys youâve been playing the same game once a week for EIGHT YEARS)
Token Brit (Gavin)
Skew older (Jeremy is one of the youngest at 29)
Lean towards the most bizarre older pop culture
Iâm just so scuffed about this

In regards to the post I made about how Sleepy Bois Inc is the other side of the coin that is Achievement Hunter, I want all you AH/DSMP fans to consider a crossover with these two groups
I want Philza âhardcore survivalistâ Minecraft and Techno âbest PVPerâ Blade to have to play/try to complete Minecraft with âhow do I get woodâ AH.
I want Philza to build a portal fifteen minutes into the video and turn around and realize that theyâre still holding wooden swords. They donât know how the piglin trading works because they never play anything later than like 1.12. Theyâve spent the past twenty minutes talking about Randy Newman and bursting into song. Alfredo got lost about ten minutes ago. Someone find him.

Persona 5 Headcanons
Sometimes Akira just goes quiet. These moods can last for a few hours to a few days. The only two people in the group who really understand when heâs like this are Futaba and Ryuji who call it âgoing darkâ.
Yoshida thinks Akira is too skinny and pale for a boy his age, so he always takes him to increasingly nicer places to eat after speeches.
You can tell when Akira, Ryuji and Yusuke have been hanging out because ALL THE FOOD IS GONE.
Akira has the Worldâs Greatest Poker Face, but heâs prone to snarking at people under his breath usually causing his friends to choke trying not to laugh.
Makoto is the queen of the silent treatment.Â
Yusuke and Ryuji have similar taste in manga mostly because they never really had toys as kids. Likewise they both eat hunched over their plates like someone is going to steal their food.
Ann grew her hair out of spite. Shiho liked to braid it when they were in Middle School. She eventually got back into the habit to help with her dexterity after she was in the hospital.
Futaba listens to all kinds of music, from American Country and Rap to International techno. She never misses Eurovision.Â
Likewise, Haru listens to quite a lot of heavy metal.Â

2017 Miss Universe: Â All the Weird of Hieronymus Bosch, but Fabulous and Feathery
If I can Iâll get back to the SAG awards, but Miss Universe national costume takes precedence over everything, including work. Â Especially work. Â I wait all year for this shitshow, and from last yearâs...creations, you can see why. Â Because Iâve always wanted to know what Hieronymus Bosch would have produced given the chance on Project Runway.
Angola came as a techno angel ice-queen, and its Miss is desperately trying to see past that headdress sliding down her face. Â Should have included goggles. Â Just completely cyber-ice-punked this whole thing out.
Joined by Brazil, the cyber-punk Black Parrot.  If someone had asked me to draw a picture of a âsparkly parrot dominatrix,â this is not what I would have come up with, but itâll do.
Miss Bulgaria will be dropping the cans and pompoms and heading over to work at the Black Parrot dungeon later this evening.Â
Malaysia brought the goggles. Â Good lord. Â
Aruba is torn between delight that she is allowed to wear flats for the first time in years, and vague concern that someone will kick the AC on too high and sheâll achieve lift-off. Â
Australia, like Canada, the US, and a few other late-to-the-nation-thing-party players, usually ends up weird.  This year they opted to not even try (although Iâm sure sheâs supposed to represent the coral reefs and surf; whatever, this is a not-even-trying of a ânational costume,â and thatâs just fine).  In ever lineup there is a feather duster, and tonight that feather duster is Australia.  She has truly rolled the worst possible duster, though, because this is a buttcape feather duster, and thatâs just wrong.  Also those sparkly tights look itchy.  But Iâm allergic to pantyhose, so most tights look itchy.
Canada came in jammies. Â That giant snowflake is a small price to pay for being able to wear jammies to this thing.
Czech Republic, also in nightwear, or loungewear.  Comfywear.  Is that a thing?  Now itâs a thing.  Central Europe always has a tricky decision, because their standard âfolkâ costumes are lovely, but their misses end up more âadorableâ than âgorgeousâ in them, so they try to come up with something sexy and it usually ends up either weird (like sexy schoolgirl meets blonde farm girl, braids and all) or kind of lame.
Are those gray flamingoes? Â Are there GRAY, SPARKLY FLAMINGOES on Miss Bahamas? Â Somebody feed those poor critters the pink shrimpy shit, they look like zombie flamingoes. Â
Every year multiple birds converge upon the Miss Universe pageant. Â I demand a faceoff between the Bahamian flamingoes and this Belizean parrot immediately.
Iâm not sure what designer managed to put eyes allllllmost on Boliviaâs tatas, or what the hell is going on with this in general. Â Neither is she. Â Sheâs just manning that giant fan thing, and can I say kudos to her for doing so, because that takes a lot of work.
Are Chileâs dragons fighting or mating back there? Â I canât tell, and that worries me. Â Also her, by her face.
China has pandas on her dress.  For godâs sake, China.  For a second I thought âhey, it was right around New Yearâs, why not go with something about that,â and then I remembered itâs the year of the cock and they very wisely avoided the hell out of that. Â
Miss Denmark is a Pretty, Pretty Princess, damn you all.
Miss Dominican Republic is cussing out all those stupid Disney princesses who had birds flittering around them all the time with no effort at all, while she has to hold her arms out with these damn mannequin things the whole time without looking weird. Â
France looked to Moulin Rouge and associated cabarets for inspiration. Â Supposedly. Â Iâm seeing some weird harem fantasies here, personally.
Germany knows. Â Trust me, she knows. Â And neatly carries off the Miss Most Desperate Hostage Eyes title of the evening.
âLook, the book opens up to a fairytale forest!â Â Please, please, somebody help me.
OH, MY GOD, SWEDEN, YOUR MISS IS CARRYING A CUTOUT HORSE AS BIG AS SHE IS, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL.
Myanmar also knows, in a demonstration of how the contestants are at the mercy of their design teams that I hope was intentionally ironic.
Guatemala has a warrior goddess thing going on here that Iâm actually kind of okay with.Â
Portugal is also auditioning for a job as one of Victoria Secretâs angels. Â
Nicaragua, however, wins the feathers prize for âdamn, commitment.â
I love Venezuela here, because she looks like a queen dispensing justice. Â âLook, Iâd love to grant you mercy, but ehhhhhhh...youâre an ass, so no.â
This is not the first time the US has come as America Thorsdottir, the bizarre lovechild of Thor and Captain America, but I hold out hope that it will be the last. Â
Russia. Â WHERE IS MY FIREBIRD. Â Give me my firebird or give me boyarinas in kokoshniky. Â Do not give me whatever the hell this is.
Poland, this is not what I meant by kokoshniky, or whatever the equivalent is in Polish. Â Hot glueing plastic rhinestones to fabric-over-cardstock is not okay. Â Nor is this half-assed cutesy folk embroidery attempt, that oh-so-carefully avoids being a full buttcape. Â None of this is okay.
Um, Israel, I get your Garden of Eden thing here, although Iâve always seen it argued to be in Mesopotamia, not the Levant, but whatever...still, is the wholse snake-apple thing really the Eden takeaway you want? Â And couldnât you get a better fake snake? Â That maybe isnât a South American python?
Italy is a lower-class girl working her way up through courtesan ranks. Â I can tell, because sheâs got the messy hair. Â If sheâd been born wealthy, her hair would have been down, or braided all to hell with sparkly nets, or carefully pinned with some loose wisps, but messy hair means poor in costume dramas. Â
I actually love Kazakhstan, who has a recognizable glamification of actual traditional costume going on. Â Also she looks like sheâs choosing someone from the audience for a ritual sacrifice and Iâm all about that.
Kenya got through this with her dignity INTACT, and she knows it. Â Well done, Kenya.
The Netherlands have never managed to get their Miss through with any amount of dignity, and this year is no exception. Â Buttcape, windmill, and all. Â
Nigeria, with dignity, glamor, and comfy bare feet. Â She knows. Â Oh, she knows.Â
Come on, Mexico. Â I love the vaquero look as a thing, but you can do it better than this.
Norway.  Go to your room and think about what youâve done.  (Also seriously, if you were going to do Frozen, at least do Annaâs adorable little actually-traditional-ish costume.  Come on.)
Unless Romania is going for pseudo-Victorian hooker, I genuinely have no idea what is going on here. Â Also I think that is a peplum on a cupped corset, and I will never unsee that.
Every year, the Slovak Republic turns out a prommy dress mimicking their famous to fiber nerds lace. Â Without fail. Â It is always layered, and always blue. Â They have picked their schtick and they year they deviate from it the world as we know it will end.
Are those...soda bottles? Â Like, polka dot soda bottles? Â And then that giant trash bustle desperately clinging to poor Tanzaniaâs ass? Â Iâm so sorry, Miss Tanzania. Â Iâm so sorry.
Turkey recycled the structure and idea from last year to remind you THEY HAVE HISTORICAL ARTIFACTS THAT ARE IN DANGER, EVERYBODY.

Your Brief And Far-Out Guide To Afrofuturism
âTime is that this really fluid factor. Nowâs now, however the past has become and also the future too.â
This is the way curator and anthropologist Niama Safia Sandy describes the main concept of Afrofuturism, a cultural aesthetic mixing aspects of sci-fi, magical realism and African history.
The artistic, musical and literary movement is frequently tracked to jazz composer and cosmic philosopher Sun Ra, who, attending college within the 1930s, were built with a hallucinatory experience of that they was kidnapped, introduced to planet Saturn and proven a prophetic future.
âMy entire body altered into another thing. I saw through myself. And That I increased ⌠I wasnât in human form ⌠I arrived on the planet which i recognized as Saturn ⌠they teleported i and me was lower on [a] stage together. They wanted to talk to me. Theyâd one little antenna on every ear. Just a little antenna over each eye. They spoken in my experience.Inch
However the actual term Afrofuturism was initially utilized by critic Mark Dery in the 1994 essay âBlack towards the Future,â which examined why there have been so couple of black sci-fi authors at that time, because of the genreâs inextricable links to another and existence around the margins.
âCan a residential area whose past continues to be deliberately applied out, and whose powers have subsequently been consumed by the quest for legible traces of their history, imagine possible futures?â Dery asks within the text. âIn addition, isn&rsquot the unreal estate for the future already of the technocrats, futurologists, streamliners, and hang designers â white-colored to some man â whoâve engineered our collective fantasies?â
Underdog
Afrofuturism is frequently considered like a cultural genre or style, a re-imagining of African tradition that projects techno-advanced options. However for Sandy, the movement is greater than a literary genre â itâs real existence. âIt&rsquos not only an ideological factor, it&rsquos how people live,â Sandy described towards the Huffington Publish. âMagical realism can be used to speak about literature from the other, literature from virtually everywhere except free airline. However I want to isn&rsquot only a literary genre, it&rsquos the way we comprehend the earth â an ambulatory cosmology, the way we undertake the planet.Inch
Sandy describes how â with the lens of Afrofuturism â certain myths, signs, colors and feelings have grown to be like literary symbols to become decoded. How background and nature have grown to be texts to become construed. âBecoming an adult, when we walked outdoors also it was sunny and out of the blue it began raining, to my mother, that will mean something,â she states. âIt&rsquos this imbued in everything that you simply do. Thatâs something thatâs been passed lower to all of us through generations through our ancestors.â
Within the last 2 yrs, Sandy continues to be curating an exhibit known as âBlack Magic: AfroPasts/AfroFutures,â featuring multidisciplinary visual artists in the African Diaspora. Photographers just like a. Delphine Fawundu deconstruct ideas for example black femininity, exploring its relationship to memory and history in her own photographs, a few of which were photographed around the plantation where Nat Turnerâs Rebellion happened. âThereâs lots of searching back and searching forward happening within this work,â Sandy stated. âCelebrating individuals journeys whether or not they are intentional or forced journeys.â
Beyond Fawundu, artist like Roger Bonair-Agard contributed video installations and poems, like âHow the World Was Made â a Super Crown.â Bonair-Agardâs poem involves the standard West African character Anansi â a spider, a god, along with a figure utilized in childrenâs fables told all over the diaspora. âWithin the poem, heâs Anansi, finding out how to move from as being a spider to as being a person,â Sandy stated. âIt connects these ideas in the folklore and tales we have developed with.â

Within an exhibition statement, Sandy summarizes the essence from the exhibition, an enchanting conjuring of past and offer forces: âIntersections of history, present and future grounded within the magic which was already within the soil, in mid-air, handed down by our ancestors through breath, bonds, bloodstream, ritual well as we discovered the Atlantic many of these many occasions. We feature it around wheresoever we go â this abundant color, rhythm, swagger ⌠Due to this, we hear and see magic in everything across water, space and time.â
Awaiting her âBlack Magicâ exhibition, Sandy shared a few of her favorite authors, artists and musicians adding towards the Afrofuturist vision. Continue reading for any far-out summary of the ruling makers of black magic.

âWho shall we be held? Iâm a forty-seven-year-old author who are able to remember as being a ten-year-old author and who expects at some point to become an 80-year-old author. Iâm also easily asocial â a hermit ⌠A pessimist if I am not careful, a feminist, a Black, an old Baptist, an oil-and-water combination of ambition, laziness, insecurity, certainty, and drive.â

âMainstream feminism may need a feeling of balance that Afrofuturism has around expression. Afrofuturism is extremely nonconformist and often I feel like mainstream feminism wants women to convey their liberation in very specific methods to particularly counter damaging narratives produced by men. Afrofuturism doesn&rsquot create towards anything. Consequently, women Afrofuturists can do what they need and just how that turns up is distinctively individual ⌠Self-expression in Afrofuturism isnât about making a statement, itâs about being.â

âHis mate Lamiya lay sunning around the hardwood deck using their kids, Aliyah and Azinza. Lamiya herself was descended in the Afar people around the shore of Lake Abbe in Old Djibouti. Just one aged servant, Yohela, had supported her about this trip, yet her hair, braided and beaded in to the intricate patterns usual for the Afar, never bore exactly the same configuration 2 days consecutively. 4 years Kaiâs senior, Lamiya is at both face and make up the most stylishly sensual lady Kai had seen, and that he had admired her since childhood.â -from Zulu Heart

âI&rsquove always had difficulty covering space. Iâm greatly an earthling. I don&rsquot see myself ever departing the earth as i am alive (I might become more adventurous once i die, heh). Thereâs a lot yet to uncover (and connect) on the planet, why look elsewhere? And my spiritual beliefs and also the systems of magic I&rsquom drawn to are earth-based, born and rooted deep within the soil. They arenât within the âheavens.â Also, after i talk about something, I must get and feel near to the subject. Irrrve never feel near to &ldquospace&rdquo, no matter how much research I do.â

âParadise isnât for me personally, I imagine an afterlife where we are able to express all of the feelings and needs weâve needed to stifle during our lifetime: an afterlife where weâd be free finally to become ourselves. Since I had been little, I&rsquove wondered when the Christian religion isnât a white-colored-folks religion designed for white-colored-folks, whether or not this&rsquos suitable for us whoâve African bloodstream within our veins.â -from Windward Heights

âThe main one area that is sensible to speak about race within my jobs are my concept of the subjective. Many people can stand before my work not getting any relationship into it, yet others can see the twelve signs, making cohesive readings according to either the formal or subjective characteristics they see. Whenever you make something, you permit yourself readings which are sometimes mistaken. Being an artist I&rsquom creating fiction on the top of the existing readability. It&rsquos that which you spoken about doing whenever you were a child with Colorforms or things i did like a kid, stapling layers of paper costumes onto my dolls, that improvisational layering, implying call and response. It&rsquos not about audience. There&rsquos a friction between your material made to be highjacked. Itâs improvisational to create another readability through blindness, through a private act on hand with imagination.â

âMy work is simply a method to recontextualize and stretch a persons eye. I flirt with images and produce them in to the ânow chapterâ of reaffirming and envisioning ourselves. I would like to break peoples hearts and reassemble them in a single image.â

âBecoming an artist, for me personally, was which i would be a digital rebel â I had been a little rude to everybody. I don&rsquot care. I don&rsquot follow what individuals want â I follow things i want. I don&rsquot enjoy people. I wish to go my very own way. And So I try everything the alternative to other people, plus they feel this person is a little a digital rebel. After I would be a young boy, grownups thought I had been a poor example. They accustomed to tell their children, âWork hard. Should you won&rsquot strive, you&rsquoll end up like Cyrus.â I had been completely different. I had been forever in the house, doing art, painting and making sculptures, with no one understood things i was doing. I didn&rsquot study, I used shaggy clothes. For them it had been a little weird. I didn&rsquot know Sunday, I didn&rsquot know Monday, I didn&rsquot know. In Africa, we live in a package.âÂ

âI&rsquove been obsessive about gold. I believe humanity in general happens to be obsessive about gold. It&rsquos been valued and revered and sacred. It&rsquos a kind of commerce now. I&rsquom some an astrophysics nerd I truly love stuff concerning the world and researching the foundation of metals. I understand that gold, for instance, is made of the dying of the star â a supernova. So essentially, all of the gold which has have you been found on the planet today are only able to easily fit in three Olympic-sized pools. It&rsquos really a percentage â it&rsquos a really scarce resource, hence why, I&rsquom sure, itâs a lot value. However I think thereâs something a lot more implicit in the need for gold â if you notice gold, real gold, it features a kind of emotional quotient into it that you could&rsquot really get if you use fake gold. Thereâs an emotional reaction when people see real gold.â

Should you be, you&rsquod possess some status one of the nations around the globe. I donât come your way like a reality, I come your way like a myth because that&rsquos what black individuals are: myths.
