hello! as a huge fan of ur works i was inspired to write something of my own but im struggling to get L & light's voices down, in both exposition and dialogue, theyre so tricky! 😭 would you have any tips youre willing to share? 💖💖

Here's the biggest single piece of advice I can offer you: can you hear their voice actors read the line you just wrote in your head. That's the one I always end up harkening back to. To get a good sense of this, make sure you know the material. Interpret the way the characters say things and deduce how this adds to the person they are beneath everything explicitly stated or shown. Watch the series a couple times, maybe focusing on episodes that the character you're struggling with features strongly in. That sort of thing. I use this in every fandom I've been in that has voice acting. This applies to exposition as well, although that's always a bit more nebulous and can really come down to personal style.

Character specific... Let's see...

L - Be an asshole. State everything eloquently, but basically as plainly as possible and do not pull any punches. His vocabulary tends to be a bit higher-class than pretty much everyone else in the anime, aside from maybe Watari. Lots of SAT words and synonyms for common words. ("I understand" instead of "got it" like Ryuk would say. But don't overdo it, he still speaks like a human being.) Do not hold back on the snark, he's a fucking dick and even more so when he doesn't have to watch his words for cooperation purposes. If you can fit the occasional pun or two in there, do it, you KNOW the scene where he shows a penchant for wordplay and I'm inclined to believe that wasn't out of left field for him. He's constantly cracking himself up and no one else, and he doesn't care, because any jokes he makes are for him. If Light's involved in the scene, have L fixate on him. In the anime, he's CONSTANTLY poking Light, asking questions, and trying to get him to engage. If I'm translating this into prose, I usually take his POV as the opportunity for the most fucking detailed obsessive descriptions of Light I possibly could want to do. (If L describes literally nothing else about his surroundings and all you can envision is a white room, HE WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW LIGHT'S EYELASHES ARE LOOKING.) He also tends to notice little details about others, to be fair, but far less frequently lol simply because he doesn't give enough of a shit to catalog them.

Light - He's a lot trickier for me, tbh. I'll do my best. He tends to avoid slang, but I don't think he goes out of his way to, and he's not afraid to cuss for emphasis, but otherwise he keeps his mouth clean. Other than that, his word use is very average and unremarkable (he pays a lot of attention to not being noticeably weird, even though he's super hindered in that goal by virtue of the fact that he's a fucking weirdo 😭 he's got most of the superficial stuff down, tho). His emotional thought process (and thereby descriptions) depends on where exactly he is in his Kira journey, sliding scale of arrogant but legit sweetheart to full on Regina George. He is kind of a bitch regardless, but he'll be very very polite if it's good for him to do that. He's a hardcore rationalizer, and sometimes he's right, but sometimes he's dead wrong and deploying it as a defense mechanism, which can affect the prose.

Leshy and allure are the fun ones together,, leshy thinks hes finally found another person to "annoy" but in reality hes found his perfect spouse to match that energy of his and for a love of fighting to bond with them ? Allure often thinks he can be a bit too much ,,but they like his leadership when it comes to missionary parties being sent out ,, they think hes often misunderstood ,, probably the first person to understand him more properly than anyone else before ,,, still doesnt stop him from nagging allure by randomly tazing them in the waist or going "TAG" and burrowing himself under the dirt (WHICH IS AN UNFAIR POWERPOINT!!!!!!!) (<- allure textbubble)

Heket and allure are also a fun bunch :-] but theyre both more emotional than the realize ,, heket doesnt like opening up nor does allure so they sorta bonded in that,, allure likes that shes overprotective of small things such as insects or being a collector of stuff ,, they could probably name a billion things about her ,, heket just finds them cute tbh 😭 like yeah she CAN be emotional but thats not rlly her whole thing ,, shes probably the one to make allure angry first cuz of her chaos she puts up when being paired up with leshy behind the scenes- allure is overly cheesy and heket is NOT !!! I hope that can summarize them together better LAMDOADM allure is an overanalyzer and heket just. Doesnt care? I mean she Does care its just shes also an asshole ❤️‍🩹

Narinder and allure are. Herm. Quiet ones? Together....? Narinder keeps more to himself often than naught. Allure is the number one oversharer of the yap-century. Paired together you get an annoyed cat being forced to listen to someones struggles for three hours- though jokes aside theyre both not too silly together, theyre probably the most domestic together ,, they both know how it feels to lose family so thats why they feel so bonded together ,, thus being in a qpr cuz their friendship goes a little more beyond than a normal one... yet they dont really experience romance normally together either? So qps it was :-] youd probably catch these two spending time alone indoors or outdoors, mainly for narinders preference. Theyre both quiet extroverts KAMDOAKDSKF

Kallamar and allure are constantly beefing but shi has a weird soft spot for them ??? Like yeah hes a fucking bitch (/lovingly) just like his sister as well as lacking empathy but he sorta just. Has allure as an "equal" person if that makes sense (npd term mainly) ,, she typically despises everyone even allure but sometimes theres just something sweet about them that she cant quite pin down? (Which then he screams in his pillow about and complains about why shes in love with a stupid lamb) ,, kallamar and allure have their moments sometimes where one or the other is rlly nice such as being taught or given something small and they both go like "WERE THEY JUST BEING NICE TO ME??????????????!?!!?!?!?"

Shamura and allure also happen to be a little complex. Allure locked shamura up for a month when they were indoctrinated out of anger as well as not wanting to deal with a dissenting shamura all day?? Shamura attempted to kill them when they were released , which almost worked if it werent for heket interrupting and breaking the fight. Years later from those events youd surprisingly see allure and shamura spending time together near the graves, as shamura smiles nodding their head while listening to what allure talks about the whole day,, allure wanted reparations as an apology from shamura ,, shamura obliged and a year later they accidentally fell first for them ,, however allure did manage to fall harder ,, theyve still got issues to work on together (accidental arguments occuring sometimes or miscommunications) but theyre the second most domestic,, shamura confessed first shyly while allure sobbed cuz they felt silly for not being able to confess first 😭 these two are playful on occasion but theyre relatively calm, spending The most time together at eachothers places, doing whatever,, shamura does scold allure more than the others

So basically its like ,, leshy/allure are matches who are funny together and playful with some hints of being charmed by eachother,

heket/allure are matched for different reasons but nonetheless they can still find that time to be goofy and flirting with eachother (that of which heket still easily wins those) (hints of vulnerability here),

narinder/allure are calm and collected more often than naught ,, some hints of playfulness when the timing is right ? Otherwise def more serious together

kallamar/allure are literally just enemies flirting (with occasional "sorry!" "are you okay?" "good morning")

shamura/allure are conflicting personalities that often clash, but can be found domestic together,, sometimes arguments occur while other times they do the best they can for eachother for both secretly feeling very guilty for the other treated another

kuroo, the outdoorsy one of the group, decided that it would be fun to go camping. however, knowing that the two of you preferred the indoors and hated bugs, he decided to rent a cabin. (which was actually kinda sweet and considerate gj kuroo)

however, he made a little misclick and accidentally ordered a cabin with one bed. for the three of you.

so he called up the owners of the cabin and asked if they had any futons or anything, to which they told him to go buy himself a bed or a futon lol

so kuroo, being the prideful idiot he is, decided to drive AN HOUR AND A HALF back to civilization to buy 2 WHOLE ASS BEDS when it was 1am (nvm kuroo ur an idiot)

now, the two of you were stuck in a tiny little cabin that kuroo was going to jam TWO WHOLE BEDS in

tbh at this point u were ready to just SLEEP and kenma was literally melting onto the floor

buuuut there was only one bed and the two of you were too scared to sleep on it bc ur both v observant people and noticed that the other looked dead

so after these like rly awkward 15 minutes where there was no talking and no sound, you both sat on the couch (that literally felt like cardboard wtf kuroo) and you watched kenma play games on his game boy bc there was NO SERVICE and also you genuinely enjoy watching him play games bc he has the CUTEST EXPRESSIONS when he plays games

however, at some point, it started raining and you two got a text from kuroo

the two of you decided to suck it up after joking around and insulting him for a good 5 minutes (were ugs rly joking ?) and grabbed a blanket and sat back down on the cardboard couch.

you liked the rain. it was nice that there was more sound in the cabin that just the sound of buttons being rapidly pressed.

however, at some point, the rain turned into a thunderstorm.

you were terrified, to say the least. thunder has always been one of your absolute worst fears.

however, you didn't want to make a scene. especially not in front of your crush.

but ofc kenma being the observant man he is, noticed that you were gripping onto his shoulder a little tighter, and that you slightly tensed up whenever the thunder in the background roared. (for context you were holding onto his shoulder to see his game)

when he eventually came to the conclusion that you were terrified of thunder, he wasn't really sure what to do. comfort you? turn off his game? have you go to sleep? play some music? like what was he supposed to do

lucky for him, you figure out what he has to do for him. when a particularly loud and boomy thunder (they're all loud and boomy but this one was VERY loud and boomy) roars, you instinctively curl yourself close to him, eyes shut in terror.

he knows what to do now.

he turns off his game boy, sets it aside, and gently holds you close as he rubs your back.

"it's ok." he whispers soothingly. "it's all ok."

you're veryslightly embarrassed by the fact that you're literally curled up with your crush right now, but you don't really have time to think about the embarrassment with the thunder in the background

however, he provides you the sweetest comfort (contrary to my thunder comfort hcs lmao) and just wordlessly rubs your back and runs his fingers through your hair (bc he knows how good it feels lol)

his comfort is so nice that you end up falling asleep curled into him.

after your breathing steadies and he knows you're asleep, he lets his emotions show a bit more. the stupid smile that he's been biting back unleashes itself and finds its way onto his features. he gazes down at your sleeping figure, all curled up and snuggling into his chest, and feels his cheeks heat up a little. he lets himself drift of to sleep too.

you both end up waking up bc the couch is hard as cardboard about an hour later. he sighs and offers you the bed but you refuse immediately. the couch was uncomfortable af, the floor was worse and you were not about to let him sleep on it.

however, the same went for him. it would appear that both of you were incredibly stubborn.

kenma was the one to propose the "how about we both sleep on the bed? it's a queen so there'll be enough room.."

he may look calm and cool as ever when saying this, but if you look at his ears, they're bright red.

you nervously agree, and the two of you slowly climb into the bed.

the bed wasn't super comfortable, but it was much better than the couch. you slowly drift off to sleep.

you and kenma were both woken up at the same time by a rooster (not kuroo, an actual rooster) cock-a-doodle-doo-ing. when you opened your eyes, you were met with kenma's face about two inches from yours.

"AH!" you both screamed and tried to jump away, but couldn't. you looked down and realized that the two of you had intertwined legs and hands at night in your sleep.

to say the least, you were embarrassed. you could feel your cheeks burning up, and you saw kenma's ears turn bright red.

"uhm.." kenma started. "i.."

"I'M BACK!! D'YA MISS ME?" kuroo (the actual one, not his twin who woke u up)

you both whipped ur heads around and tried to untangle yourselves before he saw, but it was too late.

"oya?" (I NEVER PUT ANYTHING DOWN IN JAPANESE BUT IT JUST FELT SO APPROPRIATE) he had the biggest smirk on his face.

"ding a ling ling! whoa look at that i have a call be right back~!"

"so, um, kenma.." you started, not really knowing what to say.

he cut you off. "how about we have this conversation after the trip is over?"

"yeah. lets do that."

the rest of the trip was actually decently fun, especially knowing that your crush liked you back and that you could look forward to that conversation after it was over. and as much as you hated to admit it, it was all thanks to kuroo and his idiotic brain.

Something Veilguard didn't address that tbh I haven't seen a single other Dragon Age fan mention yet--Spite abusing Lucanis wasn't okay either.

Veilguard has a habit of repeatedly insisting that it's okay to abuse Lucanis and he should just let bygones be bygones. Caterina, Ilario, Spite too.

I do like Spite as a character, and I understand what happened there. Spite as a spirit is used to being able to just control his environment, has also been imprisoned in the material world and tortured, has been forced into a body he doesn't want with a terrified person who also does not want him there, and his host insists on retaining any kind of control over what happens to them and their environment. Even putting aside the whole thing with Lucanis's trauma keeping them both mentally trapped at The Ossuary--while they were both imprisoned, Spite had no control over anything happening to or around him. The one thing he could even effect to any degree was Lucanis, and Lucanis couldn't or wouldn't always do what Spite wanted either. So both as a control attempt and as an outlet for frustration, as a way to find a sense of power when they were both powerless--Spite abused Lucanis too. We know this was both physical and emotional abuse and that it is normalized for Lucanis by the time he and Spite do escape The Ossuary. Lucanis is justifiably afraid of Spite. Spite is a victim sure, but Spite is also another one of Lucanis's abusers and participated heavily in the torture he went through. And Spite is with Lucanis constantly, has complete access to his most vulnerable thoughts and experiences, and frequently weaponizes those against Lucanis. Lucanis has no privacy in his own head. There is nowhere he can hide and if he drops his guard to so much as fall unconscious due to exhaustion he is losing control of his own body too.

We do get the insight that Spite was feeling betrayed, and that Spite thought Lucanis had deliberately adopted the role of a new jailer because Lucanis himself was still mentally imprisoned and living in constant fear/trauma. And we know that Spite and Lucanis successfully make a deal on their plans/priorities so that Lucanis can be remotely functional. But the trauma and abuse from Spite aren't really addressed. It's just swept under the rug.

I'm not surprised the devs didn't put a scene in touching on it all things considered--and I do think there's room for the topic to be explored by fans ofc. But this whole thing makes me feel a bit funny about how fandom has just run with the idea Spite is some silly stray cat and also sometimes the one fans wanna fuck while framing it like a funny/cute thing??

It's not that jokes aren't allowed obv. It's that I haven't seen fandom commentary anywhere about the harm Spite has done of his own volition with his own power. There's no acknowledgment that Lucanis is completely justified in feeling violated by and terrified of Spite. Spite is the one (depending on dialogue choices) who tells Lucanis everyone except Rook wants to hurt him before punching him in the face in front of his rescuers. AFTER they've escaped The Ossuary. Spite in that scene is the one driving home to Lucanis that he's still alone, he's not safe or free, nobody can help or protect him, why would anyone WANT to help or protect him, he is still powerless against one of his torturers even now.

That isn't all better after one agreement, and Spite being funny sometimes doesn't negate it either. That Spite is a spirit means his understanding of the situation was more limited sure, but actually healing the damage there in any capacity is going to require serious work. In-game we just don't see it.

How does fandom characterize/mischaracterize your characters ship in fanworks? for Kana

In terms of general fandom depiction/characterization, I feel like there will be a divide on how people would interpret her gender - whether she would be depicted as some set gender like female or male. Majority would probably depict her as female because we(creators) use she/her on Kana by default and her voice too (or maybe they even saw tk/rv Kana), but I can also see a good amount depict her as male because of her clothing and behavior.

I say gender, because I know there are people out there with strict preference with the genders involved in their ships. I don't really see anything bad with it of course, everyone has their own preferences, as long as they don't force it on other people. But the simple truth is that either and neither of those interpretations are correct.

To be honest, besides gender, there will definitely be people who will also fight on how they interpret her character in general, which would highly likely reflect on how they depict her dynamic with the character she's being shipped with. Though, I honestly won't blame this hypothetical fandom. Even I, someone who knows her current full lore, still feel like her character can be quite difficult to grasp at times (easiest is when she's involved in a comedy scene ngl) and I also get surprised by the (bull)shit she's capable of/can think of. Though, one of the most mischaracterization that people can do for her is to either extremely woobify her or extremely vilify her - in general, just seeing her in an absolute black or white way. For other possible shipping-related mischaracterizations, I'll just list them:

Love (and therapy) can fix her and bring back the light in her eyes - *smacks roof of the car* This bad boy can pack so much hatred, bitterness and emptiness. Jokes aside, I want to emphasize more that love and hate are two sides of the same coin. She can only hate that much because she already had a lot of love in her to begin with.

Depicting Kana crying from some shipping-related situation? Or tbh...for any situation people would think she'll cry from considering the current information revealed about her and any available canon information in KHR that's retained in KHRe - *smacks roof of the car* This bad boy can pack so much emotional repression.

I see this so often actually, but there really will be people out there who only care for the ship itself, rather than the separate characters that make up the ship. This won't be a Kana-exclusive instance in the hypothetical fandom, but an instance of such would be a grave sin against her character itself. It would really show if they ignore Kana's other important relationships with other characters (like Kurumi, Yui, etc), just to inflate their own ship more.

I saw your tags in the Solomon post about his pact with Asmodeus tbh I agree with you maybe because I played the old game and know how cruel demons were shown at the start before they started overhauling the dialogue.

It wasn't until the brothers realized MC is related to Lilith so they started becoming nicer too. I just think it's unfair to put these characters in a box and expect them to act consistently that's called caricature not characterization but hey it's just my opinion.

Hi there! Solomon seems to be even more of a polarising character than Belphie was even if the latter committed an actual murder while the former hadn't done anything as severe (for now...jk lol).

Joking aside, it's completely valid to like and dislike a character. And I can totally see your point. I guess your opinion on Solomon changes depending on how long you had known him or how far you are in the story. Sometimes it doesn't even have a reason at all and that's valid too. It always amazes me how we interpet scenes so differently. Like for example, the current lesson (lesson 17).

In my eyes, the vulnerability he had shown in the bar/tavern was NOT intended. He had even insisted numerous times that we should forget everything that he said. That it was shameful he had even reacted that way. That he was being emotional. He was not in his right mind and it's shameful and disgusting and he should have never acted like that. This is the same man who said that he couldn't stand the thought of being hated by MC, so I think he must have reacted so strongly because this is a rare chance we see him at his weakest point: his true self. Being out in the open to someone who he wants to be loved by so badly TERRIFIES HIM. A lot of unexplored self-loathing in this man that's for sure. He even said you can call him insane because emotions had never been a factor in his decision making process. He's usually very emotionally intelligent and composed but your involvement. Your existence is beginning to shake his values. Because in the end, that air of confidence. Superiority. Magical prowess are years of building up defences against others from SEEING THE REAL HIM. I really like how the person I RB'd the blog from worded it. He's trying, but he's not perfect. He's human. He's hurt but in the cruel world he lived in all his life, he only had himself to rely on.

And there's something tragically poetic about that. Could his desire to make a pact with Lucifer be because he sees Lucifer as a "what-if" version of himself that had fallen from grace WITH people who loved him and believed in him? That if he gains Lucifer's trust, he would also be healing a part of himself who never had the chance nor the privilege to connect with others? If you recall in one of his SSR cards (the Comiket one forgot the name), the Lord of Corruption is his favourite character (possibly because he relates to the Lord of Corruption the most?), and it's been shown in the game a few times how he and Lucifer are comparable to each other (the Cyber event, TSL quiz battle, etc).

He seems to really be clinging into his humanity despite being isolated and even scorned by humanity itself at some point. Is it a saviour complex? Survivor's guilt? Either way, Solomon had been through a lot and he didn't seem to have a reliable guardian to rely on which is why he was acting like that. A stark contrast to how he and Diavolo were treated by Barbatos when his role in their lives had obvious parallels.

That's what's bothering me too. If Barbatos made Solomon "the way he is", then why is he so hostile towards him compared to the guilt and subservience he exhibits with Diavolo? Is it because like Asmodeus, he was also tricked into a pact(highly doubt this tbh unless that's actually the reason for Barbatos' deep disdain towards him? Because he had once treated Solomon with trust and compassion until it had been broken at some point)? Or could it be something deeper than that? A blight to the Fountain of Knowledge? Some forbidden boundaries that Solomon had crossed?

In my case, I have a considerable amount of background knowledge on him based on his "real life counterpart" before Solmare retconned it :'), and it has guided me surprisingly well (almost too well) in understanding him. King Solomon in the Bible had many enemies. But he is also kind and wise and benevolent and fickle and lustful and scheming. Loved by his people. Even given a blessed name by God. He had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He was a player, a fool in love, but for some reason, despite it all only had one named heir and had only one official wife, and when his actual heir had even taken over the throne, the United Kingdom of Israel was close to collapsing...which is weird because he's supposed to be wise and discerning. He could have totally predicted that from happening by defying God's word but kept on building pagan temples and marrying foreign wives anyway (despite how seemingly loyal he is to Naamah??). It's almost as if he wanted it to fall.

Sorry if I rambled too much lol. For me personally I don't really care if you like him or not. I think it's good they're trying to flesh him out although I have very very mixed feelings about them abandoning what they already worked on for his character in the OG. I do want Solmare to at least give us an option to side with him by our own terms. Not as blindly as the limited options they sometimes offer. (Ex. Okay, I'm on your side but can we please deal with this with more heart and consideration? AND HUMAN DECENCY? Not everyone is out there to get you and not all demonic transactions have to be heartless and calculating. Do you want a hug? :( )

EDIT: Idk why people are still liking this but tl;dr - Solomon was morally grey in the original source/Biblical King Solomon already so him being morally grey here should be no surprise. The entire cast is morally grey (except Luke probably). They're demons. You can hate on a character, but you should not bring it to an extent where you're already hurting a real live person for differing opinions.

Hello! I still have more to say on the latest chapter of Historically Inaccurate. Sukuna trying to teach the reverse curse technique was great but I wonder how he feels about the whole stuck in Yuuji's body in the future situation the comment he made about not teaching his cursed technique because Yuuji might use it against him was a bit of an emotional blow. He's aware that they're enemies. I wonder what that's like. (Side note I'm a trained chef and dear God I would kill for Sukuna's cursed technique Ok do you know how much time it would save me if I could just wave my hand and instantly cut up all my ingredients. I used to joke that half my day was just spent cutting onions and carrots but it was only barely a joke ok, and that's just the veg I also had to cut up meat and herbs and the like. I could make ten times the number of recipes if I didn't have to spend time cutting.) Ahh, but the ever growing concern as Yuuji tried but just couldn't get it hurt so bad. Sukuna's back story was so painful. No wonder he hates seeing Yuuji slowly wasting away. Again, I have to wonder how future Sukuna is handling this. That man is going to be completely insane by the time they get back to the future, and I can't even blame him tbh. I went back to reread some of the interactions between future Sukuna and Yuuji and oh god I feel so bad for him oddly enough even though it hurts those are some of my favorite scenes in the whole fic getting to see him slowly growing more attached to Yuuji is great. I liked all the little moments where you can tell he's trying like when Yuuji gets back from lunch with Megumi and Sukuna asks Him what he's going to do to make him understand his mental state, he's trying to reach out he's just bad at it. Or when Yuuji has His panic attack after his talk with Maki and Sukuna drags him into the domain, I think that he was trying to draw Yuuji into a conversation with that little insult. Ahhh he's trying to reach out but Yuuji is too hurt and burnt out to reach back so his attempts fall flat or worse cause Yuuji to lash out hurting both of them in the process. Anyway back to the current chapter it seems like Yuuji has had a breakthrough with realizing that the Sukunas are the same person just one has so much more trauma, yayy. I mean he seems uncomfortable with it but at least he sees it now that's progress. Sukuna telling Yuuji he should take his future Self to see the fireworks was nice love the idea of Sukuna wingmanning for Sukuna. Honestly I think it'd be reasonable for Sukuna to fight Sukuna but he's got to put some of that self loathing aside because the only way for this story to end happily as far as I can see is for Yuuji and future Sukuna to make it work. That might be a little hard if past Sukuna spends his whole time in the future punching himself I certainly hope he gets a few (verbal) blows in but after that I hope he goes back to wingmanning. (1)

As someone who worked part-time as a prep chef for a number of years...being able to slice quickly would have been beautiful and saved me hours of chopping an ungodly amount of produce for lunch prep 83 (especially onions. Hate onions. My eyes BURN)

And yeah, I make a lot of different Sukuna backstories as I can image it going all sorts of different ways and I doubt we are going to get concrete answers lol This one seemed fitting for this fic!

Sukuna in the past sees present Sukuna as ...just himself. Like going "Oh god, that's me!" and realizing this is the trauma that awaits and desperately wanting to do damage control ; w ; why he makes the comment about "spoiling the story" because he sees where it is going...

1. Are you named after anyone? Yes! My mom wanted to give me a "hippie" name like Freedom or Windsong or something, but my dad would have none of it. In one of their rare instances of compromise, they settled on naming me after a folk/pop singer who was big in the 70s. If I decide to change it at some point, I'll probably choose something very similar in spelling/sound.

2. When was the last time you cried? Like two days ago while thinking about a scene where a character experiences Gender Thoughts (positive). And the day before that while listening to talks on medieval history about humans being humans. Then last weekend, while watching Puss In Boots with my partner. Look, it's not outright sobbing and tears, but I do mist up a lot, okay? For someone who had to numb their emotions to survive much of their childhood and teen years, I appreciate this actually. That despite whatever pain I've experienced it couldn't stop me from recognizing and overflowing at the pleasure and beauty all around me.

3. Do you have kids? No, and no plans to. I'm content with my affection for the children of others in my life.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? I think so? I definitely used to, though I think I've cut back on it significantly.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? The way they speak and how they communicate in general. Regina spektor anon back at it again: the bj stuff w period of adjustment made me fucking crazy. The jealousy stuff, the jealousy stuff!! i had been so appalled and fascinated by how angry and dismissive bj was being about his own struggles in relation to others'. The stuff where he directly frames his absence from his family as uniquely worse than hawkeye's father. That seemed so unconscionably cruel. (Yet there is a way that he is a little bit right, cus he *is* missing crucial developmental stages in his daughter's life!!! He's very much in the wrong, but he is *just* right enough for u to get where he's coming from) Even more jarring was how physically volatile bj was being- something about punching hawkeye felt like such a crossed line. to me it felt like: theres no world where hawkeye punches back. He just lies there. It took really good, careful writing/acting to make someone behave as out of line as bj did and still come off as sympathetic. Mike Farrell really killed it, the monologue about how the first time erin called someone daddy it wasnt BJ.....

i rlly love bj, hes not necessarily my favorite character (Margaret Houlihan Nation rise), but he is probs the one i relate to the most. Hes an overachiever who is interpersonally easygoing and very invested in being *helpful* and behaving with integrity so he very capably plays emotional support while deferring his own needs perpetually. And he struggles a lot with envy, with an anxiety regarding missing out and running out of time. That line about being "so torn up with envy i almost hate him." re: radar and trapper slapped me in the face cus its a feeling i am so familiar with.

All of that repressed resentment and rage bubbles over in such a potently ugly way here, and i think it is so ugly *because* bj is usually such an easygoing yet morally upright guy. He is so invested in that version of himself that he refuses to deal with his own anger. Hawkeye, Margaret, and BJ are all Very repressed workaholics but in wildly different ways. Margaret allows herself to be snappish, overdisciplined, and aggressive. hawkeye turns everything into a joke and capitulates to bitter, cynical nihilism. BJ is too invested in his self image of casual kindness and morality to do either so consequently he has no outlet whatsoever- he just unexpectly explodes with rage every so often.

Also i was sort of curious about what you thought of this in relation to trapper actually. Like how bj differs as a friend to hawkeye, especially in this instance. Cus if i remember correctly trapper punched hawkeye in the face and it was sort of over the same thing! Trapper wanted to defect and a reason he gave is that he wanted to see his daughters. And that punch in the face was also harrowing, but the episodes/scenes in questjon play v differently while relating to eachother in fascinating ways. (Again heres an instance of hawkeyes closest companion visiting physical violence on him- violence that i dont think hawk would ever reciprocate)

the trapper situation is slightly different in that a) he hits him with a duffel bag, not with his fist. still bad but probably hurts less and b) hawkeye does try to stop him and warns that he "doesn't want to use violence" which is like. he probably shouldve seen that coming. but tbh to me the trapper situation being played mostly for laughs and then dropped is just by virtue of it being in an early season. 1-3 had drama, but not like That. maybe if wayne rogers had stayed he'd get his own period of adjustment

in-universe though, i think that hawkeye was hit (and literally shoved aside) by both of his best friends because they wanted to return home that badly must've stung. because - yes, everyone wants to go home - but at some point its like is it the war or is it me lol. the man has enough abandonment issues as it is

i totally agree with your bj analysis! yes, bj is being a dick, but he's being a dick in such a natural way in this situation. it is so easy to forget that other people are suffering too when you're this disconnected from everything you've known

i think the core difference between hawkeye, margaret and bj is that margaret was born in the army and doesn't really have a civilian life to get back to, and hawkeye admitted to himself a long time ago that the war changed him and he's never going to be able to wash that off. but bj clings to his civilian life more than anyone in the 4077th (except maybe klinger - but he has different ways of showing it) and he refuses to even consider that the war could change him or his life. so when reality inevitably comes crashing down, he lashes out at people around him

I love how Wonwoo lashed out on Her (because we all know he did it to drive her away so didn’t get hurt but his dumb ass only ended up hurting himself by doing so). I love Princess’ (un?)willingness to talk to Wonwoo and I love how the convo between Wonwoo and Vernon went. How willing Vernon was to listen to Wonwoo rant and confess all of his feelings.

Wonwoo not wanting to look at vernon while talking to him on the roof was a total mood and felt that 100%

I need friends like them tbh. I can’t wait to see what happens in part five, I’m hoping that Wonwoo and Her make up.

I know there are some people who had mixed feelings about the idea of Aziraphale and Crowley kissing on screen because they felt that Season 1 was such good asexual rep, and listen, that's valid. It feels very clear that they are in love in Season 1, and a kiss is not necessary to prove it to a great many of us, including myself.

THAT BEING SAID. I absolutely felt the same as OP did when I watched the episode because HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS. You know what I love about this kiss? (aside from the delicious emotional devastation which I have not yet recovered from of course)

Now nobody can deny the nature of their relationship.

Whenever I talked about Good Omens to people outside of the fandom, it felt like I had to defend the idea of Aziraphale & Crowley being in love or just avoid mentioning it at all, because outside of the fandom everyone seemed to view it as a buddy comedy, and you just sound like an overzealous fan by suggesting otherwise. We've had too many shows where the subtext is there but the creators treat it like a joke, or deny that it means what it appears to mean. Or you try to explain it to casual viewers and they just think you're overanalyzing.

I love this kiss because it makes the nature of their relationship undeniable to the whole audience. You no longer see it only when engaging with fandom analysis or tallying up the subtextual evidence. You can no longer overlook it, or call it a "buddy comedy" or a "bromance". Even a casual viewer now has to look at Aziraphale and Crowley and say, oh, so this is romantic. This has been a love story the whole time. If they didn't see it before, now they have to recontextualize the whole series for themselves with this new information.

Not only that, but I love this kiss because it further proves to me that I can trust Neil Gaiman. In short, there are very few showrunners out there who I trust to take care of their characters. Neil was already on that list, to be fair, and while the end of Season 2 may have been devastating*, it feels so respectful of the characters and the journeys they need to go on. It's obviously not the end of their story and I think we're all pretty confident that Ineffable Husbands are meant to be endgame (cottage in the South Downs, anyone?), but this was a huge step in their tumultuous relationship that was handled with such emotional honesty, like, holy shit. I respect the hell out of Neil, David, and Michael for delivering such an incredibly raw scene. Not only that, but seeing an on screen kiss reaffirmed to me that Neil is cognizant of his audience and is not afraid to make narrative choices that other shows have avoided for fear of losing viewers. These are all things I knew already (all hail Gaiman tbh), but when Crowley kissed Aziraphale, it really drove it home to me.

I did not need an Ineffable Husbands kiss to prove that they're in love, but I won't pretend it bothers me to have them kiss, because it doesn't. Quite the opposite, in fact. And this wasn't the soft and romantic kiss you would hope for, it was desperate and awkward because that's exactly what it was supposed to be. I thought it was brilliant. I thought it was deliciously heartbreaking and set us up beautifully for a final chapter. (And Amazon had better give us a third season or I will riot.)

So yes. I love the kiss, I think it's hugely important, and I am SO excited to rewatch the season again soon. In the meantime, you'll probably catch me flailing about it here on Tumblr for a while 😉

*dude after i finished the last episode i spent a good several minutes flapping my hands around and breaking into hysterical sobs because holy shit what the fuck?! believe me when i tell you it was hard to focus at work the next day past the achey hollowness inside. god it was incredible. such a deceptively light season up until that final sucker punch of an episode, ALL HAIL GAIMAN 🙌

I think it genuinely cannot be overstated how important that kiss in season 2 of Good Omens was.

From a plot standpoint, that kiss showed Crowley's desperate attempts to keep Aziraphale, to reel him in and back to the Us that they had built upon.

But from just a show standpoint, they. fucking. kissed.

Obviously their love transcends physicality, and Neil has said that Good Omens is a love story even before season 2, but the outright confirmation of a widely popular queer ship ON SCREEN is just so... Unheard of.

Every fandom or show has their trademark gay couple that aren't-really-gay-but-also-kind-of-are-gay: Merlin and Arthur, Sherlock and John (very heavy offender), Dean and Castiel (okay this one was canon, but we all know what happened IMMEDIATELY afterwards), and I suppose at some point Ineffable Husbands had just been included in the same category as the rest of them.

And to have it be moved from mostly fandom and fan work fuelled to outright canon - like 'they fucking kissed on screen' canon - is just so fucking fantastic.

It's not vague, it's not lines that are blurred for the sake of being on the fence of appealing to two audiences at once, and it's not only canon because the creator just said it's canon without rhyme or reason purely for the sake of appealing to a queer audience (looking at you, Ms J. K. Rowling) - it's undeniable, blatant evidence that Crowley and Aziraphale are in love.

And yes, at the moment it's devastating, but it's also devastatingly real. And that's so important.

Especially with the release of Our Flag Means Death, I really do hope we are entering a new era in mainstream media where queer ships finally aren't treated as some sort of mysterious prize that the writers dangle in front of you like a carrot on a stick, and are just simply treated like any other ship out there.

Because if so, then queer kids will be growing up to these shows, see this new era of unabashedly queer media, and won't have to hide away their ships like some dirty little secret. They won't have to wonder if their representation is even representation. They won't have to get excited over being able to see the small chance of themselves represented in a character only to be let down so incredibly badly, because queerness is good only when it's marketable.

So sure, ending season 2 like that is fucking crazy, but you know what's crazier? Whatever the fuck Neil just did with that kiss.

sydney sucks so far. who the fuck wrote her character. so frustrating to watch.

update: tbh sometimes the kitchen lingo takes away from the experience because i have no idea what they're saying. But that's on me, i'm sure anyone with kitchen experience is jizzing their pants hearing all those words pop up in the show like "hey i know that!!"

update: carmy has got some ISSUES bro what the fuck do you mean you sleepwalked and started cooking plastic-wrapped food and almost burnt your apartment down. and WHY was that just said sorta offhand at the end of the episode? idk sometimes i feel like they do so much editing and weird cuts that it makes the story hard to follow. Still, that''s on me and i can appreciate the artistry and work it takes to put something like that together.

update: on s2. sydney is so harsh to her dad, i know its because she's frustrated with constantly trying to prove herself and be thought of as independent by her dad, but jeez louise she can be a little loud with it. Like he's just asking her questions about the restaurant and shes like "OMG dad!!!!! stop grilling me!!!". Also, a note on the acting, Stop fake stuttering for every single sentence. It doesn't make it more believable it just makes it more frustrating to watch.

update: s2e6. WOW. truly incredible imo. the dialogue is so unnaturally-natural (in the whole show, but especially in this episode) to the point where I can't-not love it. It truly encapsulates what it's like to be in a large, dysfunctional family on a day where you are supposed to love them and appreciate them, but can't get one moment to really do so. PLUS this episode was a literal walk of fame. Bob Odenkirk??? Sarah Paulson?? John Mulaney?? JAMIE LEE CURTIS???? SHANE FROM THE WALKING DEAD????(/j). but for real this episode was jawdropping and left so many questions unanswered. I can't wait to see what season 3 has in store for the family's storyline and how they are going to tell it. yay!

update: taylor swift triumph moment i think YES!!!!!!! Honestly really like richie as a character so far. Stubborn and a little too proud but comes around.

update: claire is so sweet why carmy gotta do her like that and why are they setting it up for him to get with syd when he spent the whole first season undermining her and being borderline verbally abusive. like syd girl you can do better and carmy you needa sort some shit out before you go hurting clairebear and yelling at everyone (syd especially). Call the damn fridge guy! all jokes aside i really liked this episode. I think richie popped OFF and the whole thing with pete and the bears' mom was so strange yet so emotional and gutwrenching (especially for such an 'insignificant' scene). i love pete he seems like such a caring and genuine person and I wish everyone gave him more credit. like, just because y'all got the life sucked outta you already doesn't mean you have to do it to him too.
