I feel like some of us have that region that isn't "for them", and Galar was DEFINITELY that region to me:

Like, the story was pretty boring thanks to the hyperfixation it had on Gyms. And then when something interesting would happen, Leon would show up and redirect you. I get what they're going for, he's their unbeatable Champion and it's nice he's getting involved with the affairs of his region, but it came at a downside. (I feel like Alder was better since the player still felt relevant to the plot, even tho he was pretty active and involved too.)

Most of the major characters just weren't utilized well, fell flat, or annoyed me (tho there's some I liked, like Sonia, Piers, and Raihan) Like, we FINALLY have a jerk rival after two decades, and he's forced out of the plot midway in (due to his own decisions, but still wanted more with Bede), and I think Marnie only really got as popular as she did because of her design, because she's kinda forgettable personality-wise. 🤷‍♀️ There's way more going on with Piers imo. Hop was ok, but I think they could have done a bit more with him. (Maybe if they had explored him growing up in Leon's shadow more?)

I feel like this is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I just never vibed with Leon and the way the games and anime shilled him just always rubbed me the wrong way. He's not the worst Champion, that still goes to Diantha, but between how the games just use him to redirect the player and the character-shilling, I just kinda found him annoying. 😔 (I tend to not really like showboaty characters most of the time, tho there's a few exceptions like Alastor. I feel like if they got the charisma to back it up, I might end up liking them, but sometimes, it just comes off as kinda lame instead. Imo, the charisma is there more for anime Leon over the games version.)

The idea of minor League Gyms was neat, but we never really got anything with them until Klara and Avery. Like, we can assume Allister/Melony and Bea/Gordie were minor League depending on what game you play, but in the games they're not Gym Leaders, they don't even appear.

I also hated them forcing me into a Gym Uniform in-game for those battles/League fights. (Let me keep my drip, dammit.)

The villain plots ticked me off. I've already gone after Rose a couple times in this blog, but if the energy crisis had been a few decades away, I could understand the rush and frustration with Leon, but 1000yrs was way too big a window. The Royal Brothers are meant to be annoying and ridiculous, and they definitely hit their mark there.

The box Legendaries were the most boring duo for me (They're not Pokemon I dislike, they're fine. The other box Legends were just cooler. I like the more eldritch Mons tho, so I really loved Eternatus.)

The base game's wild area felt really limited and small once you find your way around. The Crown Tundra's was way better, not to mention Paldea's.

I didn't really care for the Dynamax gimmick. (I've always been a Mega Evolution guy tho. Gigantamax could be cool, I think I just like the alternate forms.)

I will say that the DLC improved quite a bit imo. I liked characters like Peony and Mustard, the exploration was an improvement and the quests were fun, and it was cool seeing the interactions between Gym Leaders and such in the Galarian Star tournament. They also get bonus points for bringing back two of my favorite Pokemon, Volcarona and Magnezone. (I also feel like the Galar-original Mons were pretty good overall, and same with the clothing options.)

But like, by the time we got out of Gen8 and into Paldea for everything (well, the games and the anime anyway, wasn't the biggest JN fan either, I still have to catch up on Adventures), I was so happy. Technical issues with SV aside, I've enjoyed Gen9 a lot more overall.

Back then we were thinking about people to ship JC with, and WQ existed. Since then, Untamed gave our little crackship food. And since then I also started OTPing Chengxian and the core transfer has been a object of easy fixation. It would be inaccurate to say that I started shipping Chengqing because I started shipping Chengxian. But I certainly ship Chengqing through a certain amount of WWX feelings - not only Chengxian, in fact.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

sometimes a mad scientist performs a secret, impossible experiment on someone who doesn't know what's going on and they get together afterwards, and suddenly there's this huge, grotesque thing between them.

I think they should kink on it, but I also think JC would deal very badly indeed with WQ's involvement in the gc transfer. (in my mind she doesn't tell him until she has no choice/it comes out.) I can't overstate how much I adore the kink (in a wide sense) potential between them.

they get one another, about duty and family and keeping the people you care for close and safe and not trusting easily.

also - this is notably less my thing - but I think they'd be good at taking of one another when they're not tearing each other apart for the heavy topics (they agree on duty, but that doesn't mean it would never come up in a bad argument, and the core transfer reframes everything there - suddenly wq has very little room to argue about her dutifulness! you were rearming a direct enemy of your sect babe! you were 100% betraying your sect!)(unless: and I think this is juicy: unless WQ explains that she expected JC to die after the core transfer. no JC with a core, no betrayal.)

and yes also chengqingxian, or at least wq and wwx being besties.

also very into the age-gap between them. she's older! she's already respected and established and a wordly grown-up! it's not relevant to post-canon chengqing except as a contrast to how things were back then, which is still very interesting, but in a canon divergence where the Wen siblings go to Lotus Pier, or sth like that, I really like the idea/image of WQ's crush on JC. it's funny and it's cute and look I think JC should get a win. The win in this case is WQ horny-clamping her jaw and respecting him. his brains. while looking disrespectfully.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

...this is very dependent of "what-ifs" but: I don't think JC would be totally okay with WQ and WWX's relationship.

He's deeply insecure when it comes to people loving him, and WWX betrayed his trust and convinced WQ to go along with it. (in Untamed it's made worse by the fact that JC and WQ already knew one another.) For me, WWX and WQ get one another to a level that other characters don't, I'm only 10% kidding when I call them soulmates, and imo JC would not be able to deal with that very well unless it's solved in Chengqingxian. (which I think he'd shoulder better because they're both here; if WWX is with LWJ it's... it's not exactly YZY while JFM is thinking of WCZ and CSS, but something like that. to me. I do think he'd be jealous.)

less unpopular than it seemed at one time, but bears repeating that it's fine for WQ to neither peg nor dom JC. I mean I'm failing to write that but I think WQ needs and wants to be pampered from time to time. Otoh I also think she's a lot more likely than WWX to tell JC what she needs, since her self-image isn't all twisted up in being better-than-jc at all times.

I clearly didn't try hard enough to keep WWX out of this answer.😔

If you're new to league, i guess what i need to stress is that PC league is a very demanding game and i didn't have fun with it at all until playing with friends. Theres also no good ingame tutorials! You need to search up everything and sometimes watch videos like its homework. If you're looking to get into it for lore reasons - the ingame doesnt have much to do with character beyond voicelines and animations (at least for j/v atm). Be aware of that!

If you legit want to play the *game* though, you should try out Wild Rift on mobile as a starting point. Its the modernized/streamlined experience for phones and you can get a much better idea of how the game plays and what the objectives are that way, plus a lot of the old characters are updated and it looks v pretty. Ive spent a lot more time enjoying myself on WR and can even do rankeds/competitive mode there. Viktor still hasn't been added to roster there but hes frequently requested, it'll happen eventually.

Jayce is currently an unit you can play with in TFT! (The roster of characters changes every few months, but you can play that on your phone and its a good timewaster imo)

Oh man, I have a lot of thoughts regarding XY! Let's see...

Ash: I like the way he was portrayed this season honestly. He was very likeable and went through a lot of key character moments especially thanks to his Greninja. I had multiple moments where I just told my friend "man he's such a cool guy". Very good portrayal of his character :))

Serena: I'm a bit mixed with Serena. I like her but also feel like she didn't have as much character as any of the female protags before her. I liked her character arc but it felt a bit rushed weirdly enough? There was also a lot of fanservice around her which felt a bit weird (and the romance with Ash was... Well, no shade to Amourshippers at all but I did not see the chemistry. It felt like they didn't want to commit with it. If anything she had more chemistry with Aria imo) and in the finale everyone had a role except her (Bonnie was calming Zygarde, Clemont was taking care of the Lumiose tower, Ash was battling Lysandre but... Serena was just... There.) All in all I like her but she feels a bit like wasted potential? Of course that is merely my opinion on the matter. I think she improved dramatically in her small appearances in Journeys <3

Clemont: I love this little guy! He has such a nice bromance with Ash! His catchphrase and the ensuing running gag somehow always gets me. I just like that they committed with the character. He's very distinguishable from Cilan and Brock which is a plus in my book and gosh, his role in the finale broke me. I cried twice and the Citroid "death" was one of them. Clemont makes me happy :))

Bonnie: I honestly really like Bonnie! She was well written in my book and she had a lot of moments where my cynical ass had to sit down and say "... Yeah, that's cute actually". She fills me with uncontrollable cute aggression (that feeling when something is so adorable you just have to squish like bug) especially with the way she was with Zygarde. Remember how I said I cried twice during the finale?... Her singing to a rampaging Zygarde was the second time.

Some minor characters below!

Professor Sycamore: I love that he appeared often although his plot relevance is more in relation to Alain than it is to Lysandre in this. I'm a bit sad that he doesn't actually know Lysandre before the events of the Mega Evolution Special because MAN it would have been fascinating to see him torn up between the man he loves as a dear lover friend and his son assistant! Loved his dynamic with Alain <3

Tierno: HE GOT SUCH A GLOW UP??? Like I didn't care much for Tierno in the game but NOW HE'S IN MY TOP TEN FAVE POKEMON CHARACTERS???

Shauna: Wish she had appeared more because I really liked her <3

Trevor: Such a tiny guy! I think a tiny bit of his bite was lost in the anime adaptation but I still really love his friendship with Tierno. Boy best friends!

Sawyer: I love how it introduces the concept that EXP might exist or is a pseudo science in this world?? He's a tiny guy who packs a punch and that's great for him :)) very likeable.

Miette: I want to like her and I do but this whole "love rival" was introduced and then severely underutilized 😔

Alain: Is it a secret that I love Alain? I was making fun of him a lot during my first watch, calling him a bit of an edgelord but, hey, that's how I show my love. After multiple months of intense roleplaying with my friend I ended up... Really REALLY loving him??? And now whenever I rewatch his breakdown I feel terrible inside 😢

Mairin: You know how Bonnie fills me with cute aggression? Mairin is even better at triggering it. I love her with every fibre of my being <3 Her dynamic with Alain is everything to me. (He just wants to see her smile again 🥺🥺🥺🥺)

Lysandre: Might as well talk about him! I did like his portrayal (even if the line of "protecting the professor at all cost" at the start sounds super parasocial considering they never formally met?????) and he has some crazy good moments for only being introduced in XYZ and the Mega Evolution Special. He's grand ! I still can't believe the scene where he flungs himself off of the tower exists but it made me gasp very loudly!

this was made before we started actually writing (and i replaced the pictures to be more updated later on lol), so i would no longer agree with kaido and hairo being "literally the same guys" as jett and guy. Guy is ESPECIALLY different from hairo, now. but this is a very basic look at how all the characters came into being! we wanted to make saiki k but queer on purpose, and it's uhhh a lot more than just that, now, but that was the initial intent when we got started!!

if you haven't seen saiki k, i recommend it with the warning that it contains typical Anime Bullshit (worst offender imo is the incest jokes. those make me so uncomfortable i skip those sections on rewatches but luckily they r very skippable and hold no relevance to anything. the fatphobic jokes r bad too but also skippable and im just so desensitized to that shit by now) but like, for reference, i liked this anime so much i made a video essay about it. and i used to have the word "anime" blacklisted on tumblr, so me making a video essay about an ANIME means it really got into brain something crazy.

you definitely dont need to know saiki k to enjoy Psy, in fact the only difference is you'll know which jokes and concepts we stole. but i still recommend it on its own merits :) its really funny and low-stakes so its a nice relaxing watch when u just wanna have fun and laugh. also i highly recommend the dub over the sub, sorry. it's just funnier. people have attacked me for this but i stand by it. (only season 1 has a dub tho 😔)

I do want that too, but I have doubts if Kaneshiro-sensei will do that for Blue Lock because its writing is way too restrained compared to As The Gods Will, in that manga it's literally in your face who's queer and who's not even if the characters don't claim it themselves, meanwhile Blue Lock is too subtle and the queerness can only be read through subtext. Even though not all of ATGW queer reps are well-written and there are terribly sexist jokes, I do appreciate how Kaneshiro gave the bisexual sidekick (Ushimitsu) in ATGW 2 very strong presence throughout, he remains one of the strongest fighters & most devoted supporter on the MC's side (Akashi) until the end, there are some middle arcs where they are separated (similar to NEL arc in Blue Lock where MC is also separated from his previous comrades) we always got updates on what the hell Ushimitsu is doing and how he never stopped trying to find his Akashi to help and protect him or just to spout his endless love confessions to his man (much to Akashi's annoyance/ignorance) as well as in front of anyone else in the world 😂, his love for Akashi and many of his actions end up being plot-relevant and Akashi acknowledged Ushimitsu as his light and also the person he easily believes in the most. Meanwhile for Bachira I just feel like he is just flat out being ignored in NEL arc despite already achieving the status of someone who gives Isagi strength and who Isagi also believes in the most in previous arcs (similarly to what Ushimitsu is to Akashi in the end). Honestly if Kaneshiro's doing this because there are much more popular choices of fan shipping for Isagi (namely Rin and Kaiser) then that's too disappointing of him as a writer because I believe that writers should write what makes sense rather than what fans want, but I guess money rules 😔. I still have faith that Bachisagi will come back together stronger than before since Bachira also has traits of MC's canon female love interests in Kaneshiro's other series, so he has more chance to become 100% canon with Isagi rather than the MadokaMagica-like doomed yaoi ending UshiAka got (which is inevitable since it's a death game story, at least the gayness won).

Interestingly Akashi is also a soccer player and a midfielder who is the original Metavision user (though he calls it Akashic Eyes lol) and he strongly believes in the traditional all-for-one teamwork spirit, and he has a harem who are all canonly in love with him including 3 cis girls + 1 transfem + Ushimitsu (and possibly 2 more guys though they are just subtext unlike Ushimitsu). Meanwhile Isagi is a forward working to become the strongest egoist, fandom would say Isagi has a harem when in canon he just wants to play soccer and his "harem" that fans claim is mostly just rivals who are just too obsessed to crush him, plus Bachira who has the most chemistry to be Isagi's endgame partner, there are also Kurona & Hiori but they are not built to have as strong emotional connections as Bachira to Isagi imo (though aside from Ushimitsu who partly inpires Bachira I probably can tell which harem members partly inspire Hiori and Rin as well as a relationships that are similar to NagiReo/KuniChigi/Rinsagi lmao)

I know Isagi and Bachira can't get married because it's a sports shonen, but they should at least be allowed to kiss once, just like in the writer's old manga, as the gods will.

I don't care what convoluted scenario it takes to get there. pucker up.

Love love love your project oh my god! I am so excited to get to see more of the world and these characters including our jerk mom! Plus I love the powers you decided to give the mc. So two questions.

First how did you decide on the characters powers? Was it something that came natural/randomly or was that sort of planned and relevant to the plot?

Second what are your favorite IF projects?

Ooh interesting question 🧐 Some of the characters’ powers come more naturally than the others, especially those whose powers kinda related to their personalities.

Like Ash’s pyrokinesis, it’s directly inspired and correlated to their temper and impulsiveness, and Rin’s precognition to their more calculated and pragmatic personality (plus their precog really help them in leading the Aikawa branch on Elysium City; they mostly are able to stay a few steps ahead of the rivals and the law enforcements, combined with their sharp mind). Yvette’s powers of Illusions and Empathy also tie in nicely to her vain personality too, imo.

Others I require more thoughts on, especially Skylar. I struggled quite a bit in finding the suitable powers for them. Their powers definitely don’t really correlate to their personality. I want them to still exude that classic superhero vibe but at the same time, I don’t want them to have those classic and bland powers we associate with the most classic superheroes of all, Superman. So, sadly, no laser eyes for them 😔 In the end, I think Density Control is a pretty unique and versatile superpower for them and I also end up giving them the classic Flight ability to further enhance that classic vibe 😆

Others’ like Luka’s teleportation and Viktor’s power replication just honestly come out of nowhere and I can’t think any specific reasons on why I chose those in particular 😂 Also, if you guys are wondering, Cara’s ability is Doppelgänger (physically copying other people’s forms), it also required a bit more thought and kinda planned for the plot.

As for MC’s gravikinesis and umbrakinesis, it’s mostly because I personally love them and I personally like the freedom and creativity in the ways these powers can be utilized 😁

As for my favorite IF projects, there are so much 😩 I basically created a whole google doc just to keep track of all of them! If you guys are interested, I can certainly create a more curated list later on!

The last chp of ao no flag made me really step away from the whole manga tho.. Idk I think the author has to really make it clear that they dont support the homophobic rhetoric by those two teen boys in that chp. I just go really angry too at the whole chapter because the two girls really didnt care about (I forgot his name but the one who got punched starts with a t) and they were just defending themselves because you find out one of the girls is a gf to that homophobic guy in the chair :/ p.2!

Also masumi! Im not happy with futaba because ignorant people are just annoying to me and I want at least one lesbian in fiction to be happy for once :( im just gonna have to wait and see i guess 😔

SEE I THINK THIS MOST RECENT CHAPTER WAS SOOOO COMPLICATED FJKGHDF like its messy as hell and i wanna preface this with like.... BECAUSE of how messy it was, i understand people being completely put off. so while i’ll say my feelings on it ppl def dont have to agree w me yknow

overall i felt like... kaito’s intention seemed to largely be to showcase the hypocrisy of the reactions to the falling out. like you said the girls didn’t ACTUALLY care, they just wanted a moral high ground. if they actually cared, they would’ve been reaching out to touma, or actually doing something helpful. when kensuke (the guy who started the fight) expressed that’d he’d been assaulted, he wasnt responded to with adequate compassion either, imo. 

the inclusion of that assault for the recond is obviously what REALLY complicates things. it’s a homophobic trope obviously but i think the realities of the way abuse warps our perceptions is unavoidable. it’s also the kind of thing that does throw a wrench in logic that doesnt have a solid basis. the fact that some gay people are abusive is no reason to be homophobic, but i feel like there’s a way to argue that while still sympathizing with someone’s trauma, which ISNT what happened in the chapter. and i feel like that’s on purpose

shingo (the laidback guy) is the one i’m most unclear on. because for a lot of things - he’s right. the situation was largely hypocritical, and he also knew the whole time about kensuke’s trauma, and was operating with that in mind the whole time, unlike everyone else. i don’t think he’s actively homophobic in the same way though - just an annoying dude who plays devil’s advocate beyond its logical bounds. 

ultimately my main takeaway that i think is a positive though - these are thought processes that straight, homophobic people do have to work through to ideally get past them. there’s not always an easy point A to point B for acceptance. and ultimately, i think this could be a helpful read for straight readers still needing to unpack some things. it’s the kind of thing that needs to happen NOT through a conversation with an actually gay person, because it’s so harmful to us personally! and on a meta level, that’s why i think it’s relevant that touma isn’t present for this. 

overall i’m pretty optimistic abt it obviously, but my point is mostly... i think that a straight reader (esp a less #woke one) and a gay reader will probably have VERY different readings of these chapters. cant say for sure though since who talks to straight people am i right theydies

-in regards to octavia & bellamy. lately, especially during season 1, I get to thinking "this show could've been so good if it was good... aka if it'd focused on the blakes from the start". and one of the things I'm sure of is that if this had happened, the blakes would've had these... borderline incestuous vibes, tbh (s1 already had bellamy being terrible about octavia re: boys). bellamy-octavia-lincoln would've felt like a pseudo-triangle and the show would've been about octavia's journey to be free, in many ways.

-ilian's backstory gets a bit complicated because it involves s3 and s4 plotlines, but he's only relevant in season 4 anyway, and you've already seen his end. in regards to octavia in particular: he's saved her life, she's almost executed him, they've had cave sex because octavia needed to ~feel something, and they spent a little time in his farm while octavia was trying to run away from the world, before she killed a bunch of people who were attacking her and she leaves for polis and ends up in the conclave.

-octavia & indra & gaia are not a major dynamic in the large scheme of things, but they're important to octavia's narrative and it does get to shine here and there, mostly in s4 & 5 (gaia and indra do get small parts in s6-7, and I LOVE indra's s7 plot, but the three-parts dynamic is not as solid or central, octavia's busy with other mother-daughter duo lol). gaia is introduced in s4 (she's stranged from indra, who wanted her to be a warrior leader and not a flamekeeper), indra in season 2.

and indra DEFINITELY knew what she was doing!!! she does not get nearly enough credit for her strategic genius, imo. and sidenote, although in s5 indra says differently, I've always thought whichever grounder clan won, gaia (as this Priestess Supreme lol) would have a good chance to be invited to stay in the bunker, so I always interpreted that grief to be about her mother, bringing them closer for a second.

-luna has tragically few interactions with the blakes. some in her introductory episode (3x14, which I rewatched yesterday), but nothing that brings her backstory to the forefront until 4x10, and even then it's only that mention. it's tragic.

-whoever the blakes' respective bio-fathers are, it remains wholly irrelevant to the show. there's only aurora xD (I think in the books jaha is bellamy's bio-father but do not quote me on that lol). the fandom sometimes gushed about kane being a ~surrogate father figure for the blakes but idc about him lol. at this point his relationship with octavia was in a somewhat good place, but. that'll change.

fwiw I do think octavia gets one of the best arcs, beginning to end, but a) the show is still. not something I can recommend in good conscience xD, and b) I know it's not your type of show. whatever you decide, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the next few episodes :DD

Starting watching* The 100 with 4×10 sure is interesting. I have no clue who half these people are or what are the relationships between them. But anyway, here are some hightlights:

-I literally only tried this show for Octavia and God, I love her! She has all the makings of a blorbo. Every single moment she was onscreen I was fascinated. Unsurprisingly, the dynamics that most interest me all are centered around her.

-Octavia-Bellamy thugs at my heartstrings. And yet I still can't help but feel they could have been more. In an alternate universe where the show started with O as the protagonist, Bellamy would be a whole other character. I have a feeling he would be more like comics!Batman, a controlling asshole whose entire world centered around his sister and his ~presence would feel smothering everytime he was onscreen.

-No clue who Ilian was and what was his deal, but I was getting Peeta vibes from him LOL

-Octavia-Indra-Gaia! I hope this is a dynamic that is/has been brought up and delved into in other episode cause the potential is there. (When Gaia realizes their clan is doomed and goes to cry on her mom's shoulder, only for Indra to later be like 'Octavia is doing well.' Oh she knew very well what she was doing. I'm convinced Indra had zero faith in her clan's champion so she took advantage of Octavia's already shaky loyalty to make sure they'll survive.)

-How could Luna have THAT backstory and yet she has no interaction with Bellamy nor is Bellamy-Octavia brought up vis a vis her? Wasted potential smh. In another world, she would be O's dark mirror who'll probably haunt her past her death.

-I'm shipping Linctavia and 1. K know they have already been doomed by the narrative and 2. I haven't even properly seen them interact.

-Is...is Kane Octavia's father? (It would make so much sense since they named him Marcus: a Roman name to fit right in with Octavia and Aurora) Or father figure or something? I'm so confused by their interactions.

-Everyone else: if you didn't interact with Octavia, you don't exist for me.

*I'll finish s4 but I don't know if I'll properly watch the show afterwards. I'm here for Octavia and Octavia only and idk if it's worth it.

When did I create this blog?: Like three years ago at this point. After the purge that made a lot of the more toxic people move to Twitter, I was like ‘fuck it’ and went ahead and did my first rb. Gotta say, I’ve been enjoying my time in here more than I ever would on Twitter. Tumblr staff if you get rid of the tagging system I’m going to personally ensure that you take a bath with a toaster DO NOT test me.

What do I post?: Whatever fandom I’m in at the moment, including shitposts, or interesting things or things I find funny. I even made a few sideblogs so my briefer phases in fandoms wouldn’t completely clog up my main any further lol. I kind of cycle between my favorite media instead of picking up anything new because once I’m in I’m usually in deep. I tend to comb for content and have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of every long-term fandom I’ve been in, including FF7, Jojo’s, HxH, Evangelion, and even Sonic for awhile. I also know a lot of good fics for those particular fandom (except sonic 😔) so hmu if you need anything ✌️
