Yessss. I just know they're going to make them so insane in s3, especially given we have no idea how Armand and Louis are going to factor into the modern timeline while knowing exactly how delightfully Daniel and Lestat are about to collide. Like we can make educated guesses on the flashbacks based on the books, but the modern timeline really is unchartered territory now given the changes they've made.

Leverage, the Expanse, just finished up IWTV season 2 not too long ago, rewatching Steven Universe: Future, but me and my roomie kind of put that on hold when the spideytorch server I’m in turned me on to Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994) and I. Fucking. Love. It. Peter’s so yappy and inwardly monologing and whiny and it’s so so so good for it.

Currently craving: Was craving some pistachio ice cream recently so I got that. Really hit the spot.

Coffee or Tea:  BOTH!! I like coffee more, but to pretend I’m not a lover of tea is nonsense. In fact, with the right tea you can totally get the coffee experience. In fact, if I had to choose for one to continue to exist and one to not, it’d probably be tea that I’d deem worthy of continuing on because it’s such a diverse drink anyway.

Hobby To Try: Well I like drawing, so I’ve been sort of dipping my toes into comic making. I made probably my first real legit little comic (like four panels nothing crazy but more than I’ve done before) about a young Peter B Parker and bisexual panic moment. Might post it on my art blog at some point. Spent a bunch of time practicing Peter’s facial expression too to get comfortable with drawing him and find an easy style for comics

Current Au: Uuuuuh the story I’ve been building for my version of Peter, I guess. I got a crazy ass bullet point list that keeps getting bigger as I figure out where I want to place things and then I RP with my partners about it or write little connecting fics. Drag Queen IWTV AU

(I get it’s a bit crack, but in my defence I spent a lot of last week talking about drag queens in class!)

The House de Romanus

Started by Marius. Armand was the first person to join alongside, and he was very young. In his late teens-early 20s, just before Lestat comes on scene, he falls into a bit of a toxic relationship with Santino. His entire aesthetic changes dramatically, and somewhat incidentally it’s Lestat (brought into the fold by Magnus, spends a few months as someone just hanging around, before he’s taken in by Marius) who brings him back to the House de Romanus.

They’ve spent years sharing a dressing room. They trust each other implicitly, you have never seen two people who hate each other quite as much, and yet love each other in the way of family.

Lestat’s gone through half a dozen different aesthetics, but has an absolutely electric stage presence. Armand, meanwhile, has a much more classic lounge singer meets Hollywood glam look, and is iconic for it. (This specific persona really started to develop with Santino though it’s undergone some major refinement). While a less talented stage presence, absolutely killing it in still photos.

Lestat meets Louis, and brings him in. Louis comes with Daniel, who, somewhat immediately is drawn in by Armand. He does a lot of the behind the scenes stuff for a lot of them. It takes a long time for Louis to have the confidence to go on stage, but even before that, he’s consistently there.

The relationship dynamics are not any less complex, they might actually be worse.

So we were talking about how AMC's Interview with the Vampire Season 1 handles their choice of making Louis a black man in the early 1900s. This is a really cool change the show made in its AU version of IWTV, and it brought in a whole lot of subjects to explore that didn't exist in the books, making the TV show a very different work of art. But all the initial ideas for this show came from a cishet white man, and while he down the line had assistance from poc collaborators, I still think the show had areas where it could have done better with regards to some of the story beats, character arcs, and plot progression. I love discussions like this! Please talk to me about vampire chronicles! I live for it! I'm posting this now because I am disappointed that a few people seem to not be understanding several things I said. Maybe I said it unclearly, or maybe they're projecting and jumping to conclusions.

I deleted/banned every single comment on my videos that talked negatively about the show making Louis and Claudia black or deriding it for trying to be woke (and there were a bunch!). I delete block and ban all forms of hate speech. My channel is absolutely not a safe space for racists or bigots of any kind.

As you can see in the screencap, there is nothing in these comments that is about the race changes. These comments are talking about other changes the show made from the books and don't touch on race at all. The poster who screencapped them is jumping to the conclusion that these commenters liking the books better than the show automatically makes them racist, and that these are racist comments. And this screencap is specifically what I was referencing at the beginning of the other thread. Several people have said this now, that my YT comments section makes a safe space for racists. But these are not racist comments, and there is no evidence that the commenters are racist. This is projection and assumption. If you DO ever notice a racist comment on any of my videos, that I somehow missed, please bring it to my attention so that I can immediately delete and ban the user from ever commenting on my channel again.

But back to the show itself and my critique of it. I'm always here for talking about vampire-related writing! Let's go!

I still stand by what I said in my videos about the few issues I had with the show's scripts. If you watched my videos or follow all I've said about the show here on tumblr or elsewhere, you'll know how excited about this show I've been from the very beginning, how obsessively into it I am, following every aspect of production and behind the scenes news. You may even be in one of the multiple discord servers with me where we talk about the show constantly. There was much I really enjoyed about season 1, which I was outspoken about in my videos, and people keep seeming to forget. My videos had a greater percentage of positivity in them than negativity. But yes, I did have critiques as well, just like I do with every single piece of vampire media I discuss on my channel--it's the entire point of my channel!--and those mostly had to do with inconsistency in the writing.

What I've said is that the DRIVING FORCE of the plot wasn’t about Louis's struggles with chafing against society as a black man after episode 3, not that there was no more racism. I said he was obviously still immersed in systemic racism all around him, which the show showed us with visual details in the background, despite no one talking about them. This is fine, we don't need it spelled out for us. TV is a visual medium, and that's what the images are there for. But my discussion is about his character MOTIVATIONS on a writing level. His want vs need. His goal vs obstacle. If you're unversed on the techniques of story writing and plot structure, I recommend Blake Snyder's book Save the Cat as a crash course. In ep 1-3, for Louis, it was about being respected as a man equal to others among his society, the citizens of New Orleans, his colleagues and business rivals. Fighting for social opportunities that were limited to him because he is black. That story ends with episode 3 and a new story begins. I’m not saying this is a bad thing. I just said I NOTICED it.

After it all burns down, Louis stops focusing on society respecting him as a human being (which was ironic to begin with, because he’s not human anymore) and his driving plot becomes about making and keeping a family and such. Obviously race is still an element of that in a mixed marriage, but it’s not about his business or social standing anymore, these parts of his life that were SO IMPORTANT to him in the first three episodes. In the books, vampires stop caring about that kind of stuff the second they are made, but the show changed it to take Louis a few years to get there instead of it happening instantly.

Obviously racism doesn't magically disappear or stop mattering once he accepts his vampire nature (which Lestat kind of promises him it will), but it does shift to being a background element for what we see on screen. He is not focused on it anymore, when it used to be the primary driving force of his plot. We hardly even get to see Louis interact with (racist) society again til the finale (and I made this observation on episode 5, which the end-of-episode credits told us was written by a white person). For example, the police that come to their door are bigoted to him and Lestat because they’re gay, but meanwhile, they act completely colorblind. At this point, Louis’s character motivations are about fear of them being caught for murder, and his emotions regarding how Claudia is struggling with her eternal child body and lashing out--about keeping his family together. Not about his racial struggles as a businessman and citizen in outward society.

Yes, we all know there were non-white people in the writer’s room (thank god! Can you imagine?? If there weren’t any, we’d all have been raging from the very beginning! Did you read RJ’s episode 1 script draft before it got revised with the input of black/queer/female editors? OOF), but the choice to completely shift Louis’s driving character motivations away from his impassioned societal race struggle to something different after 3 episodes was part of the original season outline made by white people before any poc were brought on to the team. 

And again, I didn’t say it was a bad thing, it was just something I NOTICED, and the way the show executed it felt very abrupt and clunky. Did I want the cops to not be colorblind and get in some racial digs and microaggressions while they were at Louis’s house? Ew no. But I did NOTICE that they didn’t do that, and how it was so different from the way Louis was spoken to by white people in the first 3 episodes. Did the white writer of this episode perhaps feel uncomfortable going there?

The season told two different stories for Louis, with an abrupt turn in the arc after episode 3. It didn’t feel like an arc at all, but a sharp angle. Starting with Claudia, Louis’s primary drives and character motivations completely change. He no longer wants to be an important businessman respected in society, he becomes “the housewife,” and never once seems to miss his desperately-fought-for social status at all. This comes back to what I said about the show being weakened by trying to shove in too much book stuff. Ep1-3 were all these cool new original ideas from the show with Louis having entirely new character motivations based on the show's changes to his background. They were naturally driven by what him being black in 1910 now meant. But after that story was done, it abruptly shifts back to more of how he in in the books, and trying to suddenly pull him back to his book personality/motivations/goals after giving us this whole new organically-evolved self in 1-3 was notable. I noticed it.

All in all, I think it probably would have worked much better on a writing level if it was treated as two separate mini seasons instead of presenting itself as an attempt at one coherent whole.

Have you ever thought about an IWTV au with techno and phil as Louis and Lestat respectively, specifically the tv series version bc I think they would fit so well.

Lestats cloud gift could be interpreted at Philzas wings and the baby zombie joke kinda rolls over into Claudia (tommy) being the main executioner in the attempt on Lestats (philzas) life

Wilbur as Paul, then Tommy as Claudia and Quackity as Armand with the Paris coven as the qsmp ensemble, Madeline could be Tubbo (keeping it platonic) and so on.

Im thinking of the church scene specifically in episode one of season one where Louis confesses in the church after Paul’s funeral where Lestat then kills a few holy men and then turns Louis, the techza erotica potential is bountiful

It’s definitely a harder question because I do force people to watch it based on their tastes (i.e. I have forced my Tumblr besties to watch at least three different movies released in 2011 for gay subtext as the main recommendation factor but would not do this to my work colleagues)… HOWEVER!!! Based on broad factors of what I HAVE in the past forced my friends/loved ones to watch these are the winners…

ROMANCE/ROM-COM Crash Landing on You This is the best rom com ever made.* Nothing has ever brought my mom AND dad to laughter, tears, and had them BOTH proclaim ‘5 stars’. I cannot recommend this show strongly enough to anyone who has remotely liked a single rom com, ever.**

COMEDY Galavant Niche audience of people who love fantasy and musicals includes ME motherfucker!

Honourable mention: Deadloch, Utopia (AU), Derry Girls This is really just a series of non-American comedies I would recommend to people if they hadn’t seen it. Deadloch specifically I am SHOCKED and APPALLED more people on Tumblr are not on top of and AM continually threatening my friends with a gun to watch it, or else!!

HORROR Hannibal and IWTV Both absolutely all-time must watches but only for people that would be into that sort of thing (sickos with taste) and not look at me weirdly afterwards for recommending it.

CRIME/THRILLERS The Devil Judge and Beyond Evil Crazy how these two shows came out at like, the same time, were both so similar in terms of the Wildly Gay Subtextual Leads Dynamic and so good. And they (were) both on Netflix!! Beyond Evil is definitely more refined BUT The Devil Judge is also so good and wild and such camp fun… you couldn’t go wrong with either if you enjoy having a fun gay time, particularly not if you like shows just to the left of Hannibal/IWTV.

FANTASY  Word of Honour and The Untamed These are not all-timers because they are ‘objectively well-made’ they are all timers because I shake my friends by the shoulders and yell "I had the absolute most fun gay fantasy romance time watching them and you will too!"

HISTORICAL Spartacus and Black Sails Everyone talks about Black Sails on this website but not enough people talk about how Spartacus walked so Black Sails could run. Much more extreme R-rated and/or triggering content in Spartacus though so I do understand. Nevertheless something I do end up recommending to my male friends a lot (and they love it!!).

SCI-FI  Dark REALLY tough category and I didn’t love the ending of this show but decided to pick based on what I'd recommend to the most people on balance. Don't look up spoilers!

For All Mankind Ok I haven’t even finished season 3 of this show so I can’t properly endorse it in full confidence and I’m also biased because I’m currently watching it, but. I simply love to see the BSG showrunner do what he does best: make television. About People, Politics and Situations In Space!

Honourable mention: The OA, In the Flesh and Sense8 These are my ‘wish they weren’t cancelled’*** and I don’t know if I would inflict on people while incomplete. However I just think what they were aiming for was so so unique and good that maybe they’re worth watching anyway!! (***I know Sense8 had the consolation prize movie but it was so rushed and nothing that like. To Me. It doesn't count.)

ANIME Shin Sekai Yori This is definitely the all-time anime I recommend to absolutely everyone. Ignore the middling animation and don’t look up spoilers, the end has one of the most existential ‘reframes the narrative’ plot twists of all time.

Yuri on Ice Speaking of plot twists that reframe the narrative… YOI is an obvious answer but it’s also correct!!! IT WAS BORN TO MAKE HISTORY!!!

FILMS The Handmaiden Limiting myself to ONE film to keep things a little briefer (sorry about the long post!) it was still an easy choice and literally do force my friends to watch it the second I know they haven’t seen it. No spoilers but it’s the IWTV of cinema to me.

I am always open to asks/prompts, especially for memes I've reblogged! Though, lol, this is definitely a dangerous questions in the IWTV fandom. I can actually usually empathize/intellectually imagine why people might like something, even if I absolutely cannot relate at all. (Like I have a NOTP in this fandom...absolutely cannot see the appeal, especially in a specific variant of it, but am willing to guess it's a kink/squick difference.) IWTV also does no seem to suffer as a fandom too much from the kind of AUs I tend to find baffling (very banal modern AUs like flower/coffee shop or human/no-magic or powers AUs). I can't even say I don't understand why people "like" to assume the absolute worst of Armand or pretend like Loumand never loved each other, etc dumb takes, because I do know why. It's the good old ship wars...

But I guess a thing that baffles me a lot is the popularity of 2022 show!Daniel? Just as a character, crusty old white guy Dan is so....annoying? I know they tried to give him some depth with the divorce backstories and angst over his troubles with his kids or whatever, and yea this is the "they all kinda suck" show but just agh. And the way people just think we should be adopting all of his opinions as definitely true as though he doesn't have huge and obvious biases (some of them...kind racist) is weird to me. Like I know he's positioned narrative-wise in a way that an audience surrogate or an authorial mouthpiece might be, but ehhh. That does not sit well with me. And it's not that I don't get enjoying him as a character, to be clear - all these characters are shitty in their own ways and have some huge flaws - but I just didn't expect this guy to get this kind of popularity and valorization.

He absolutely look like an 18th century vampire lol. I think it's partly that he's very pale, not tan, and also honestly the waist to shoulder ratio...idk his torso has a kind of delicacy along with all the strength of the muscles and the broad shoulders that feels like an unusual combination

Him looking like he's never seen the sun definitely helps, haha, but yes, I think you're right about his body shape too. Unusual's probably the right word for it, and I think the show does a good job of emphasising both his more masculine and more feminine features (which hell, Carol even said outright on her insta).

for any fandom? man idk if i can choose this one. thats hard. lot of pressure. uhhhhhhhh with the disclaimer that i'm v biased towards my current fandoms im locking in "allosexual mu qing" which has the bonus of being something that is pure headcanon and not "this character having these sorts of experiences is very supported by canon but i'm putting a specific label/interpretation onto it" which is the majority of my headcanons

....honestly, plausibly silm fandom? i have a lot of HoME and i've got two copies of the silm, one of which is a Nice edition. that said i also recently dropped >$100 on mxtx books for my friend's birthday. i have some mcyt merch (techno hoodie, tommy shirt, lifesteal poster) but tbh i think this does not win out over the cost of buying a lot of books. i've bought hwbm and wktd a lot for people but those are all very small purchases, hwbm and wktd are cheap, so i kind of doubt they win. i was a maximum fun donor for a bit and then after that i was a tma patreon subscriber and idk how much that adds up to but my guess is silm is still winning. i always guess and then i always get it wrong :( my next fandom will come out of nowhere and blindside me. one day i will wake up and ollie will be like "we doing [WEIRD INTERNET THING] now" and it will be entirely unpredictable but it will happen and then that'll be my life for the next couple years. that said i want to watch iwtv and i give it some percentage chance of being a Fandom I Join, it looks very good and also very heartsbait :3

questions that make you look at your exchange DNW lol. does chatfic count as a trope? the thing with trying to decide on a least favorite fanfic trope is that i just go "....okay but there was a really good fic of it in heartscord exchange 2023". least favorite fic genres is easier, i assume because i didn't challenge my friends to write all my least favorite fic genres. oh wait i have thought of a couple good chatfics or arguably-chatfics now also. my life is so hard. there are so many good fics in this world. uhhhhhhhhh. Percolating a vague idea for an Armand POV fic - an AU of San Francisco with a few different pairings, including Armand/Daniel. I'm still on the fence about writing for IWTV, tbh, because there's a specific vibe to the show I'm not sure I can capture, and I'm wondering if this fic in particular will turn into its own thing. That's probably okay - I've skirted the edges of canon vibes in other fandoms before - but I'm only human and feeling nervous about sharing something weird.

This is more me blogging than anything else so I apologize for adding this to the tag - just tagging to let anyone filter out IWTV if they want.

Okay. Okay fine! I'll explain (some!) of the YOI IWTV AU :] (no one asked. The one person who asked has been crying and served me divorce papers already. That's alright, I'll win them back. @sugarbunbie haha takemebackplsibegimnothingwithoutyo-- EHM EHM ANYWAYS!!)

So I've been having brainworms. Brainworms in proportions hitherto undreamth of. And those brainworms begin and end with Viktor as Lestat!

If you follow me on AO3, or at least read a few of my latest (very short) fics, you'll be well aware that the reason I've slowed down writing is because my laptop is busted and I've been using my phone to update stuff. Very sad, I know. What I did NOT account for, however, is the utter lack of decorum watching s2 of IWTV would give me, let alone the grand ol' idea of making a YOI AU out of it.

I'm still kinda stuck at the stage where haha, Viktor!Stat.

Anyways seeing as updates are slow and, very likely, I won't dive beyond IWTV s1-2 in terms of plot points (and since it's not a 1:1, at all, I say that with a lot of caveats. Character journey, perchance? Emotionally, rather than physically and actually. Smth smth self actualization for our LouClaudia characters, ehm. As I was saying!!) so I figured I'd make a small Tumblr post the way I did for my NRT threesome AU series ( - which I HAVE NOT DROPPED BTW!!! It's just really long and plotty, and I need an actual writing-specific device to work on it since I need to do more research!!!), just explain a few things that may be lost to the crevices of the AU series.

1. I described the first part of the series, seek me with dead eyes (embody me) as kind of a stand-in for the San Francisco fiasco in 1973, because it's not a proper "interview". I'm debating on keeping it that way for the sake of a more compact story, particularly because I don't plan to delve more into the "DM" of this AU,,,, but I will confirm that the interview with Georgi is the basis for many of the fics that follow, even if Georgi doesn't feature predominantly/at all.

2. Yes, there will be Yuuri and Viktor-centric fics to come. Yuuri's will probably be the last one of the series, and the Viktor fic will be a gift. I'm honestly excited to write it, he's the whole reason I bothered to drag my fingers over my phone keyboard and WORK at this au!!

3. Reiterating that Yuri and Yuuri share the burden of being both Louis and Claudia, for the reason that neither of them could EVER be a 1:1 of either of those characters and to put them in such boxes would be a disservice to all four characters involved lmao.

It's particularly for this reason, plus the fact that I'm not framing Yuri as a "son" for Viktuuri, that the focus of the series has morphed. I still think and want to ensure that the AU remains very much about grief, loss and loneliness - but the heart of it will not be about the horrible death of a child.

Will the fic series be less devastating to account for these changes? Maybe? I'm very inclined towards horror myself, if you've looked into my catalogue more, so I'm not shy about introducing some of the more grotesque, vile shit that happens in IWTV, but I figure if it doesn't serve a purpose in the narrative I'm building, I won't bother with writing it out because, again, I'm using my phone and I have wrist problems djsjsjjdjd.

4. Speaking of: there are plenty more characters in the AU, from YOI, that serve as an amalgam of IWTV characters too! Unlike YuuYu however, they have no counterpart to 'shoulder the burden' so to speak. You'll probably know them when you see them, as they crop up over time. It's especially relevant for Viktor's half of the enfolding story!!

5. I'm honestly just making this Tumblr post because I'm a. Bored and b. Driving myself up the wall with each new revelation I'm making out of this AU. None of which I've put on here, I think, thankfully. Very spoiler-y, that. Hahahahahaha. I wrote much of the very first fic in a mad haze and now I'm rethreading it to write out the plot more, beyond that burst of sudden all encompassing inspiration - and I am absolutely insane. I really am.
