a weird thing about being neurodivergent is no one really bats an eye if I say I have ADHD. and though it has strengths, it's generally acknowledged as a disability
but if I mention I have an IQ of 136+, it's seen as purely impressive, positive, and probably bragging, and no one considers there might be drawbacks
if you have high IQ, you are almost twice as likely to have ADHD! also more likely to have anxiety, depression, autism, and even allergies and autoimmune disorders. smart people are 3 times more likely to have allergies!! Wtf??
then there's the shit like social difficulties and alienation, sensitivity to stress, easily bored, difficulty making decisions and overthinking, trouble communicating, high expectations, gifted child syndrome and not learning how to work for things....
high IQ people are up to three times more likely to use drugs!!!
just think about that. you'd think if you're smart then you'd know that Drugs Are Bad, but no. being intelligent can sometimes suck enough that drugs are the answer
and besides all that
my iq is a thing that colours every aspect of how I experience the world, just like my adhd does. and it sure would be nice to be able to talk about that without ppl assuming i'm bragging, or worse, that i'm judging people
#iq#for the record i don't give a shit how smart you are#my main metric for judging is how KIND you are#your iq might affect how easily we get along#but so does my fandoms and age and temperament and all kinds of things#I'll take a sweet dumbass over a genius asshole any day

Hello there!
A bit new to fandom and I do apologize in advance if this has already been addressed in a previous post but what are your thoughts on when Elucien fans say that both Lucien and Elain are very similar? Personally, I think Elain and Azriel are more similar but my bigger issue with this is that it does not matter how similar two people are. If they aren’t into each other romantically, you should take it at face value versus trying to force them together. It’s a bit frustrating to see this so often-their personalities match, they are mates, she needs to give him a chance because he is a good male who deserves happiness, etc. I truly do not understand this fandom, tbh.
Thanks in advance for your much appreciated insight.
Hi Anon,
I think the mistake in this whole 'these two characters are similar' discussions is that it's not the similarity that's important, it's compatibility.
You don't have to be similar to be happy and to have a great relationship (one of the big problems with dating apps I think is that it's doing exactly that--looking for similarities between people, assuming that if both like sports and sushi, they'll make a great match), but you have to be compatible.
Yeah, on the surface, Elain and Lucien might have some commonalities--kind of the ignored and forgotten children in their families. Both at ease in social situations. Both polite and gracious (most of the time). But the funny thing is, exactly the same thing could be said about Elain and Azriel. In fact, the same WAS said about them--Elain and Azriel, the only polite ones. Azriel, graceful as any courtier. "Rhys could make Azriel a Prince of Velaris...' "No, Elain was his princess'.
But that's not the most important thing, even though of course SJM put all of it in the books for a reason. Note how Feyre never said that Elain would cling to Lucien...
But I think the important thing to remember is that compatibility isn't based on mutual likeness. Cassian and Nesta have NO similarities, but they are compatible. Lorcan and Elide have even fewer similarities, but they are drawn to each other and are compatible.
Lucien was in love with Jesminda. Thought even that they might be mates --they were very different in many ways, but obviously he found her vivacious nature very appealing.
At the same time, Azriel, for example, seemed to have loved Mor, but they are incredibly incompatible. Whether it's when she had to MAKE him, BEG him, CAJOLE him into things, or her being part of the group that gives him headaches, or them just being completely different temperament-wise and having almost nothing to say to each other, despite both being warriors, both being in the IC, having knowing each other for literal ages, etc. It interesting that it translates to friendships as well--Rhys and Azriel seemed to be fairly similar in many ways, yet they are not compatible. Azriel loves him as a brother, but I don't get the sense that they just adore each other. Whereas Cassian, who seems to be very different from Azriel has a much, much closer relationship to him, and Rhys as well.
It's a fallacy which is pretty popular in this fandom --they are so similar, they must be a romantic pairing! Look, Gwyn and Az are both Carynthians! They are so similar. Whereas Azriel kept thinking to himself how he can escape the interaction with her. Whereas with Elain, who certainly isn't a Carynthian, he could sit for hours, listening to her garden plans.
I think all we need to know is that Elriel have a mutual understanding that doesn't even require words. That's a high level of emotional connection. Pretty much the highest--to be able to understand the other person just by sensing subtle changes in them. And Elriel already have that.

HTTYD x Genshin Impact - Visions
𝔾𝕣𝕖𝕖𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕤, 𝔻𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕧𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕣!
Since I’ve decided to start writing some HTTYD Fics and HCs on this blog, my dearest travelers, I’ve decided to start strong and do a vision analysis for the main characters of HTTYD! Hope you all enjoy this! ♡︎
Please consider joining the Discord for fandom shenanigans!
𝕃𝕖𝕥’𝕤 𝕤𝕖𝕖 𝕟𝕠𝕨, 𝕀 𝕓𝕖𝕝𝕚𝕖𝕧𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕥𝕒𝕝𝕖 𝕘𝕠𝕖𝕤 𝕒 𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕝𝕖 𝕤𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕝𝕚𝕜𝕖…

“The Gods goad us all with the promise of their seven treasures: rewards for the worthy, a doorway to divinity. Yet buried in this world are smoldering remains: a warning to those that dare trespass. That throne in the sky is not reserved for you. But mortal arrogation never stops. None will escape the flames. See for yourself."
𖣘 Anemo - The Spirit of Freedom 𖣘
“What does freedom really mean when demanded of you by a god?"
Those who possess the power of Anemo tend to not get nervous or overwhelmed by the situations they face. Anemo bearers value freedom so much that they will sometimes fight for those who deny it to others or themselves…
Ruffnut and Tuffnut - The two are practically the embodiment of freedom in their own unique way, so much so that they take what it means to be free in a whole new meaning. While they like to wreak havoc across the land the two know deep down that even when it comes to fighting for the freedom of dragons there is nothing that can stop them. Freedom can mean many things but what it means to them is being able to free a dragon who is being hurt by evil.
Valka- She holds freedom dear despite it bringing her a heavy burden. When she was taken by a dragon many years ago while trying to save her infant son she immediately knew what she had to do- even if it meant never seeing her husband and son again. She fought for what was right and freed many dragons- protected them too. She knew freedom came with a cost. What she lost was later gained.
ꕥ Geo - Contracts and Order ꕥ
“In the end, he will sign the contract to end all contracts."
Like the land, they have a calm temperament. Earth types are very grounded individuals, as of realistic. Geo Vision holders seek loyalty, security, reliability, and so on. They value what is set in stone, or believe everything is, and are known to be very stubborn…
Viggo Grimborn- Leader of the Dragon Hunters, a strategic thinker and is smarter with his age and experience in his years. He is realistic in thinking and is incredibly stubborn- everything happens for a reason and knows much can be set in stone. He values loyalty and does not care how he gets it as long as he is feared above all. While he would indeed use his vision for acts of evil it is not a surprise that Geo was meant for a man of his skill and intelligence.
Fishlegs- While some would argue Fishlegs being a Dendro holder it becomes a bit more obvious that Geo is best suited for him. His behaviour is that of a Geo. He seeks a sense of security and is incredibly reliable, someone that people just feel comfortable opening up to and a wonderful friend. Fishlegs values loyalty and kindness, he wishes to shield his friends and beloved dragon Meatlug from foes no matter the cost. While he may be cowardly at times he has a pure heart that is made of gold. He means well and wants the best for everyone.
Stoick The Vast- While some might quick to label him as that of an Anemo holder due to losing his wife, Stoick truly embodies that of Geo in terms of being the foundation of his people’s tradition and wishing to hold true to his well grounded beliefs and ideals. He values loyalty and strength and is very much built like that of a bolder. Stoick the Vast is truly a reliable leader in the eyes of those on Berk. Though he once believed that the hatred to dragons was set in stone a sudden and difficult experience changed his mind- he was stubborn, yes, but that can all come down to him being a true man of Geo.
Electro - Everlasting Eternity
“But what do mortals see of the eternity chased after by their god?"
Eternity, a means where all or at least parts of life is kept the same regardless of what goes on in the world around them. The ideas of unchanging eternity is what strengths the individuals who harness the powers of Electro. They strive to keep themselves in whatever they deem to be eternal. Whether it is eternal beauty or eternal power, they will achieve that goal. No matter what, even if it may be destructive...
Heather - She is no stranger to chasing her own version of eternity, she felt so alone not knowing where she came from with only fragments of memories left behind in her mind. She wanted clarity and to understand as much as possible of who she really was- one could say that her pursuit of answers was her eternity. From a very young age, she was separated from her real family, and was eventually taken in by a couple who raised her as their own daughter. Even with what adoptive family she did have, her pursuit for answers was evident from the start. She was seen as different- an outcast even but even so being different was what lead her to find what she wanted all along. Her eternity.
Dagur The Deranged- Heather’s older brother, a crazy and rather deranged man befitting his namesake has his own way of defining eternity. He has a strong connection to Electro. The Skrill is the dragon the Berserker Tribe have named the symbol of their people. He is impulsive and never ceases his drive for eternity- an eternity of his own. Now that he is married to Mala of the Defenders of the Wing he seeks an eternity with her where they will fight alongside each other.
Mala- Her eternity is simple, peace and protection for her people and it’s dragons. She is not afraid to turn her katana-like sword on anyone who dare challenges her sense of eternity or dares harm a dragon. Mala holds a strong, religious admiration for dragons, actively antagonizing dragon hunters, suspected dragon hunters and anyone who may have harmed dragons. She is elegant and polite, if anything some may think she is much like the archon of which her vision emanates from.
❦ Dendro - Wisdom and Knowledge ❦
“The oasis of knowledge is a mirage in the desert of ignorance.”
As the nature, trees, the soil they are the epitome of life. The element with creation itself. Dendro people will often be creative, bring up ideas to change the current situation, and bring a whole new perspective on matters. They are crafty yet incredibly careful, they wish not to overlook a single detail put before them. As with knowledge and wisdom, they seek answers and solutions to any problem put in their path. Daring to risk it all, one might say…
Hiccup- Intelligent and incredibly creative through and through. While he may have been hesitant to share his views on dragons in the past and worked in secret to become the well known dragon rider he is today. It should come to no one’s surprise that Hiccup values knowledge and has a drive to learn as much as he can, like a sponge soaking up water be soaks up knowledge. He is incredibly creative and always seems to have a bright idea to help get the job done.
Gothi- Berk’s resident healer who is skilled with all things medicine. Gothi’s knowledge is in medicine and the earth itself, with her knowledge she can be sure to cure as many as possible by using what she knows about herbs and other natural remedies.
Bucket- Bucket was attacked by a dragon and lost half of his brain. It caused him to lose his sight temporarily, and to protect what was left of his skull, he wears an iron bucket on his head permanently, earning him the name. Now do not let this half-brained Viking fool you, he is indeed a man of Dendro in a very unique way. His injury also awakened great artistic talent, and he made two quality paintings of Hiccup and Stoick, but the second painting was more truthful of Hiccup's appearance; the first was not. True to the Dendro element’s ability to belong to creative minded people, Bucket holds true to his creative abilities proudly.
Trader Johann- Creative and cunning, Johann has proven that he is indeed worthy of Dendro by means of his crafty facade of a dimwitted trader of many goods while being the mastermind of many great troubles the dragon riders have come across. He as is crafty as he is careful, not daring to miss even a little detail as why his act was able to keep going for many long years. While he may not use his vision for good, he is indeed a genius…
𖦹 Hydro - The Desire For Justice 𖦹
"The god of justice lives for the spectacle of the courtroom, seeking to judge all other gods. But even she knows not to make an enemy of the Divine."
Hydro bearers tend to go along with the flow, as water can take the same shape of its vessel. They adapt to situations quite fast, or are not overwhelmed by what surrounds them. They seem justice and have a rather strong sense of it, holding those who dare question them before their being as if it were court. They are judgmental, but not always in a negative way, some more observant and silent than others. But be warned, they will make sure a tsunami of justice hits you when you are wrong…
Astrid- She is truly the embodiment of the Hydro element’s principles of justice and a quick adaptability to chaos in their way. Astrid’s sense of justice does to always being quick to sense when one is not who they seem, quickly calling them out as an act of judgement- though she may remain silent on the matter she will judge the one worthy of her judgement and without mercy.
Atali- Atali is very polite and gracious, though has little patience for any disrespect. Much like her vision’s very principles she holds Justice above all and will defend in the name of it. She is gentle and kind, nurturing to baby razorwhip dragons in her care but will happily turn her blade against those who dare harm a dragon. Her justice is in the name of protection of those in her care.
𖣔 Pyro - War Within 𖣔
"The rules of war are woven in the womb. The victor shall burn bright, while the losers must turn to ash."
Pyro wielders are the most passionate people you may find, they do every single thing with huge amounts of willpower, energy and love. That is not to say that there may be a barrier to keep them from reaching their full potential. Many Pyro holders struggle with “war”, the very thing their Vision symbolizes. War is not always a fight with another, but inside yourself…
Drago- The very embodiment of Pyro’s thirst for war. His drive and sheer willpower to concur says it all, he is truly one chosen of the Pyro element. Dragon is fierce and as brutal as a raging wildfire, his temper that of an erupting volcano. He has no love in his body, only the energy and will to concur- that is his flame, his true passion.
Mindin- Like the other Wingmaidens, she is respectful towards the others. However, Mindin’s call to Pyro was the feeling of never truly being enough. Minden has always wanted to prove her worth to Atali, to show that she is a leader material. When she realized that she has made reckless decisions, she feels ashamed and that she is not worthy to become a Wingmaiden. It takes an encouragement from Snotlout to help herself in getting back on her feet and to do the right thing. Pyro can mean that she has conflict burning within, she indeed does but that does not define who she is, her strength and willpower to prove herself has shown her true worth.
Snotlout- Pyro was naturally the vision he wanted to hold from the beginning, after all, Hookfang is a Monstrous Nightmare- a stoker class of dragon. If anyone was fit for Pyro it was Snotlout. He embodies Pyro’s traits in an interesting way, always wanting to prove himself. He is passionate… but sometimes his passion may get the better of him….
Gustav- Snotlout’s mini me, a wannabe new and improved Snotlout (well, more like more chaotic version). He admires Snotlout and his ability to train a dragon to the point where he gets his own dragon named Fanghook. Gustav often times mimics Snotlout's personality, although he is easily scared, mostly because he is younger, as has decided to run away twice… despite this he is indeed worthy of pyro based on his dedication, passion, and his inner conflict of not being entirely true to himself.
❄︎ Cryo - Conflicted and Strident ❄︎
"She is a god with no love left for her people, nor do they have any left for her. Her followers hope only to be on her side when the day of her rebellion against the Divine comes at last."
Cold yet calm, confident yet conflicted. Those who wield the powers of Cryo are individuals who all seem to have something that they deeply despise, whether it be a topic or person they seem to hold a deep inner hatred towards it. They are quick to talk about their despise and come against it rather quickly if given the chances. Cryo holders may seem harsh, but many are kind and well intentioned deep down. Much like a flower hidden beneath the winter snow. They sometimes find hard to love and embrace; just as they have found it hard to embrace their true self…
Ryker Grimborn- As the older brother of Viggo Grimborn, he's the muscle and brawn, while he lacks the brains for many an operation, he makes up for it in pure brute force. He is undoubtedly the type of character that wants to just run in and start beating everybody up and killing everything and everyone in his vicinity, Ryker is far smarter than he looks and is capable of trickery- he is cold and brutal, a pure Cryo at heart. By keeping a relatively calm demeanor before going blizzard crazy, he knows when to attack with ease.
Krogan- He is very quiet, calm and collected, and seems to prefer observing to joining in the commotion. He is quite literally the calm before the storm- or raging blizzard. Most of his actions are overly dramatized, suggesting he's well disciplined and might have a gift for performing. He’s the embodiment of the Cryo principles and personality. He is the farthest from kind, harsh as the coldest of winters and with a heart of solid ice.
Eret- While some might not have guessed Eret is one for the vision of Cryo but he is truly a Cryo deep down. Cocky and overconfident, only appearing to care about saving his own skin. In spite of his cavalier façade, Eret is rather charming, heroic, and kind-hearted. As a Cryo user, a key personality trait is he may seem harsh, but is kind and well intentioned deep down. He has come a long way from foe to friend and has become an incredible leader in his own way.
————
"Some say a few are chosen and the rest are dregs. But I say we humans have our humanity. We will defy this world with a power from beyond. Now, you will set foot in this world. Your journey has reached its end. But one final doorway remains. Step forth if you have understood the meaning of your journey. Defeat me. Command me to step aside. Show me that you are worthier than I to rescue her. Then the threads of all fate will be yours to reweave."
"My memory is all but faded completely. But I will always remember how much she, too, loved these flowers."

•Miscellaneous•
⚫️If I could put them in a different universe or Fandom, which one?- Nope. They’re good where they are.
⚫️What was there first kiss like? Have they have it yet?- Well, this jerk was calling them gay in seventh grade at a party. Like, mlm gay. Because they’re kind of femme. Which, first of all, is not a bad thing, but Nyxe doesn’t like men, and isn’t a man? (They weren’t out to anyone but their closest friends and their parents as nonbinary at the time, so…) Also, this guy was making it sound like a bad thing. But anyways, the guy made Nyxe “prove it” by kissing popular girl Emily, so they did. They full on made out with her out of spite. Very stupid move. Also, Emily slapped them across the face afterwards, then proceeded to punch them in the stomach and pour a cup of punch on their head. That was because they didn’t have her consent and was also a nerd back then. It was horrible. Worst kiss ever. Nyxe won’t talk about it again. They do feel bad for Emily.
⚫️Have they ever lost somebody they loved and who was it? How did it impact them?- Again, Galen. Kind of broke their universe. They’re literally who they are now because of it. They do everything for him.
⚫️What would happen if they were granted 3 wishes?- They’d bring Galen back. They’d ask for a way to go anywhere anytime (can’t drive overseas with an RV). Then they’d ask to have all the streaming services in the world for free.
⚫️There stranded on in island with________ and they have 4 items, who and what do they bring?- They would bring their friend Laurya because she has wings and would 100% fly them out of there. Then they would bring four bottles of their gross tasting energy juice. Fuel for Laurya, but we don’t want to weigh her down, do we?
⚫️what quote do they feel portrays them?- They haven’t thought about this.
⚫️Most prizes possession and why is it prized?- Their cello. They and Galen spent a year working their asses off saving money for it.
⚫️Have they ever stolen anything? We’re they caught? Do they feel guilty or prideful?- Stole lots of potion stuff back in the learning days in amounts where people wouldn't miss it. Nyxe is kind of indifferent about it. They kind of needed it for their studying, but they were too amateur to own everything they needed, but obviously it's not something to boast.
⚫️What textures do they absolutely hate to feel?- Cracky, dry, hard dirt.
⚫️How long can they go without showering? When do they feel dirty?- Two days. After sweating too much, that’s it.
⚫️Where do they put there clothes when there dirty?- Toss them in a designated area.
⚫️Do they sleep with the bedroom door open or closed and why?- Closed. 100%. They snore sometimes and they know it.
⚫️If they woke up with animalistic features such as ears and a tail( that were different from the ones they already had if they had any at all)how would they react?- Depends on the animal.
⚫️if they could only eat one thing for 20 days, what would they eat?- Dino Nuggets.
⚫️do they re read books they already have?- Yes. All the time.
⚫️if they had the option to know when they would die, exact date, would they want to know or would they want to stay oblivious to it?- They would want to know.
⚫️What song would they listen to on repeat?- Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s their favourite.
⚫️Do they believe in a form of an afterlife?- Yes.
⚫️Do they crack there joints?- Yes.
⚫️Spicy, Savory, Sweet, Bitter, or Sour?- Savory all the way.
⚫️Do they adopt stray animals?- Just long enough to get it somewhere where they’ll be properly taken care of.
⚫️Do they procrastinate or do they get it done asap?- Depends on the task.
⚫️What is the temperature when they shower? Cold.
⚫️Do they daydream?- Only when there’s nothing else to do.
⚫️ do they work best in messy or clean environment?- Both work.
⚫️ do they keep personal photos? Why?- Yes. They don’t really throw stuff out.
⚫️Do they indulge in anything?- Define “indulge”.
⚫️ would they do the exact opposite that someone says to them just to spite them?- Depends.
⚫️ if they’re alone and they hear a noise would they go check it out or would they hide? Why?- They would check it out.
⚫️ if they’re lost what is the first thing they do?- Sit down and think it out.
⚫️ what is a dream they had that was terrifying and made no sense too them? One time, when they were a kid, they had a dream that neighbor kid Dianne was drowning. In forty-feet deep water. And she was drowning at the bottom. So naturally, Nyxe dove to save her. But then they couldn’t make it to the surface fast enough and suffocated. Dianne died and Nyxe woke up from a coma a year later. Everyone had turned into skunks in the meantime.
⚫️ what is the stupidest thing they have ever done because someone said not to do it?- 6-year-old Nyxe heard “Don’t climb onto that branch, it’s too thin”, so they did. It broke, obviously, and they broke their arm.
⚫️ are they stoic or melodramatic about being injured?- Stoic.
Here is a long ass character sheet
Give credit if you use it!

Rambling about Katara and Zutara
Ok so I’m going to kind of just put my two cents out there on this stuff. I joined the ATLA fandom this past summer and just started watching TLOK (my brother and I just finished Book 2 yesterday). This is a hot debate and I just want to ramble on about my opinions on this stuff. A lot of this will focus on Katara’s perspective because I can understand her better than Zuko or Aang due to personal experience. Im just... gonna... get into it now...
I’ll give you some background on me so you guys can understand where I’m coming from. I’m a 15 year old girl with abandonment issues caused by multiple deaths of close friends and family at a young age (my uncle when I was 4, a grandmother like figure when I was 7, my dad’s mum when I was 9 or 10, my great grandma when I was 11, a close friend of my dad’s when I was 13 and many others). I also am the Mum Friend (my friends literally call me “Mum”). I’m the caregiver of the group- the glue, the harmonizer, the therapist, the teacher, the good advice giver etc. (This stuff actually hot me in trouble as a kid and it kind of messed me up). My friends who have seen Avatar have compared me to Katara on multiple occasions and say I’ve got the temperament of a waterbender. You can kind of see where I’d relate, you know?
I do ship Zutara. My brother turned to me during the Book 1: Water- Episode 9~ The Waterbending Scroll and asked, “What if Zuko becomes a good guy and ends up with Katara?” From then on I was on the Zutara hill and I’ll probably die there. It limited ships that I loved from childhood and I thought it would hav been really cool- it would have fit the themes of the show, it would have been a cool thing to see grow and blossom, etc. It had nothing to do with Katara and Zuko being attractive at all- not in the slightest. It also wasn’t me projecting onto Katara. I didn’t really care to notice any major similarities between us until Book Three: Fire- Episode 7~ The Runaway. It was this exchange that changed Katara from my favorite character to someone I could heavily relate to.
Toph: [Sarcasically.] Oh really, Mom? Or what are you gonna do? Send me to my room?
Katara: I wish I could!
Toph: well you can’t! Because you’re not my mom, and you’re not their mom! [Extends her arm at Aang and Sokka, who are sitting on a ledge.]
Katara: I never said I was!
Toph: No, but you act like it! You think it’s your job to boss everyone around, but it’s not! You’re just a regular kid like the rest of us! Stop acting like you can tell me what to do! I can do whatever I want!
I remember bursting out laughing when I heard this. My brother asked me what was up and I paused it and explained that that was a lecture I revived so regularly when I was younger. It really really ended up messing me up. It’s not like I tried to mother anyone- it just happened. I wasn’t controlling it. I didn’t notice I was doing it and I got in trouble. Now things are different and I’ve embraced the fact that I am the designated Mum Freind. Still working on getting over being told off about it in therapy though. Anyway, I think you now can understand where I’m coming from with this “analysis.” Now I’m going to get into it (for real this time lol).
I think I’m going to start with the caregiver stuff. Katara’s mother died when she was very young. It was a very traumatic death. We can infer that Katara blamed herself for this death because the Southern Raiders were looking for the last waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe- her. That’s a lot for an 8 year old to try to process. Here’s the kicker: I don’t think she ever fully processed it until after Book 3: Fire- Episode 16~ The Southern Raiders. She almost immediately helped her grandmother take up the roll as the woman of the house. She probably didn’t feel like she had anyone to talk to about what she was feeling however true or false that’s what she most likely perceived this to be. When Hakoda leaves for war with all of the men of the tribe, Kanna might be the matriarch and help raise Sokka and Katara but even Sokka admits that Katara became a pseudo-mother for him. Taking care of others doesn’t leave a lot of time to deal with your own issues. Sometimes it feels easier to help others face their demons than face your own.
We continue to see Katara become the glue of the Gaang as the series progresses. She keeps them together in the Si Wong desert after Aang leaves her, Sokka, Toph, and Momo. She’s always the one cooking, cleaning, and mending not because she wants to, but because she knows no one else will do it and it needs to be done. We see her try to coax Toph into helping out around camp when she firsts joins the Gaang. It doesn’t work and this conflict continues for most of Book 2 and the beginning of Book 3. All of this time, she’s making it a point to take care of everyone. When the adults show up after the Boiling Rock, she’s still the one making the dinner and probably does a lot of the other chores as well (except for tea making- this will come into play later).
There’s a running joke about Katara being “Momtara” within the ATLA fandom (more the Zutaraians in the fandom than anything else but it’s a pretty well known concept). We continue to see this when the Gaang is on Ember Island. She brings them all drink during training sessions, watches said training sessions in case someone gets hurt and they need her, wrangles Sokka to the best of her ability, and just generally looks out for everyone regardless of age gap. It’s her natural instinct to be motherly. She retains this quality even after she finds Yon Rha. (Getting closure on her mother’s death doesn’t mean losing what had become a major personality trait).
Let’s unpack that now, shall we? Kya dies and Katara thinks it’s her fault. She doesn’t really talk to anyone about it. A few years later, Hakoda leaves to fight in the war. The Southern Water Tribe recives no letters or news about what happened to their warriors at all. Katara felt like she lost another parent. She nearly says as much during Book 3: Fire- Episode 1~ The Awakening.
Hakoda: You’re taking about me too, aren’t you?
Katara: How could you leave us, Dad? [She attempts to wipe away the tears.] I mean, I know we had Gran-Gran, and she loved us, but we were just so lost without you.
Hakoda moves to comfort her as she turns away.
Hakoda: I’m so sorry, Katara.
Katara: [Embraces Hakoda.] I understand why you left. I really do, and I know that you had to go, so why do I still feel this way? I’m so sad and angry and hurt!
The thing that sets off this exchange is Aang running away for the third time since Katara has known him (the fourth time in Aang’s lifetime). The other times he ran were when confronted by the rude fisherman in Book 1: Water- Episode 12~ The Storm, then again during Book 2: Earth- Episode 11~ The Desert. Aang has a, for lack of a better word, chronic running away problem. I’m not mad at him for it. It makes him an interesting character and shows that he too has flaws (even if they aren’t always addressed but that’s an issue with Bryke). When Aang flys away after waking up during 3.1, Katara is distraught.
Katara: He left.
Hakoda: What?
Katara: Aang. He just took his glider and disappeared. He has this ridiculous notion that he has to save the world alone, that it’s all his responsibility.
Hakoda: Maybe that’s his way of being brave.
Katara: Its not brave, it’s selfish and stupid! We could be helping him and I know the world needs him, but doesn’t he know how much we need him, too? How can he just leave us behind?
Katara feels abandoned by Aang. This is completely understandable. She has every right to be angry at him and feel sad that he flew away. He comes back every time but I feel like if I were in her position, as much as I’d hope my friend would come back and I’d tell everyone that I knew he would, I’d still be afraid that there was an off chance that he doesn’t. This is a natural human reaction to this situation. People were seemingly constantly fading in and out of Katara’s life and that just wasn’t good for her mental health. It couldn’t have been. This also raises the question of if someone has a very serious fear of abandonment, would it be healthy to be in a romantic relationship with someone who consistently leaves? Personally I don’t think so. Be friends? Sure. Date? I don’t know. It doesn’t quite sit right with me.
Katara probably feels abandoned by Zuko too. During the Book 2 Finale: Crossroads of Destiny, Katara and Zuko bond in the crystal catacombs under Ba Sing Se. They relate over their shared fear of being abandoned by those they love (yes I think Zuko has abandonment issues too- among other issues/fears). When he turns his back on her, she doesn’t live him (obviously). She has cared about him enough up to that point to offer to use what is arguably her most powerful possession to heal his scar. She cares. Because she cares about him then, she is downright livid when he betrays her. (Of course the difference between Zuko and Aang with this is Zuko leaves once and comes back and he doesn’t leave again. Aang leaves and comes back over and over and over again).
Katara: I thought you had changed!
Zuko: I have changed!
Katara carries the weight of his betrayal on her mind until she and Zuko go on their life changing field trip to confront the man who killed Katara’s mother. This was her time to finally get closure. She had probably had these feelings bottled up for 6 years and didn’t act on them. When she finally had the chance, her best friend and brother tried to stop her. She lashed out.
Katara: We’re going to find the man who took my mother from me.
Sokka pauses and stands up, surprised.
Zuko: Sokka told me the story of what happened. I know who did it and I know how to find him.
Aang: Um ... and what exactly do you think this will accomplish?
Katara: [Shakes her head in dismay.] Ugh, I knew you wouldn’t understand. [Begins to walk away.]
Aang: Wait! Stop! I do understand. You’re feeling unbelievable pain and rage. How do you think I felt about the sandbenders when they stole Appa? How do you think I felt about the Fire Nation when I found out what happened to my people?
Zuko: She needs this, Aang. This is about getting closure and justice.
Aang: I don’t think so. I think this is about getting revenge.
Katara: [Angrily.] Fine, maybe it is! Maybe it’s what he deserves!
Aang: Katara, you sound like Jet.
Katara: Its not the same! Jet attacked the innocent. This man, he’s a monster.
Sokka: Katara, she was my mother, too, but I think Aang might be right.
Katara: Then you didn’t love her the way I did!
Sokka: [Hurt.] Katara!
Katara gets a lot of flack for this interaction. She says Sokka didn’t love their mother like she did and Sokka I’d understandably hurt. It doesn’t excuse what she said, but people do lash out when they are feeling a lot of emotions and they get defensive when they feel like they’re being ganged up on or attacked (I myself am guilty of this sort of thing). What Katara said was wrong but I have no doubt in my mind that she didn’t apologize to Sokka when he and the rest of the Gaang arrive on Ember Island later in the episode. She is seen walking over to him after she hugs Zuko.
Zuko and Katara go after Yon Rha anyway. For once in her life, Katara is feeling emotions and no one is trying to get her to stop or to push them aside. She doesn’t have to be constantly taking care of someone so she can focus on herself. Katara trusts Zuko more than I think she realizes. I mean she trusts him with a lot and he follows through on a lot of unspoken/subconscious agreements and promises.
Zuko is looking out for her. Zuko has her back. Zuko is allowing her to feel all of these emotions and work them out of her own accord. Zuko isn’t telling her to feel one way or another. Zuko isn’t going to judge her for whatever she decides to do when they find Yon Rha or what she does in order for them to get to that point. Zuko ensures she gets the closure she feels she needs.
When he sees her bloodbend, he’s surprised, but he isn’t appalled. When he thinks she’s going to run Yon Rha through with a giant shard of ice, he doesn’t try to stop her. He lets her be her. He sees a dark side of her in a way that no one else in the Gaang has seen. It’s strangely intimate. Clearly it has enough of an impact to make her forgive him. She knows he isn’t going to abandon betray her and her friend again.
Once they become friends, and even before that, Zuko starts to help out with small things here and there. We see him making tea for all of the kids at dinner. He tells jokes to make them laugh. He teaches Aang firebending. He goes with Sokka to the Boiling Rock to make sure he doesn’t get himself killed or in a prison cell for the rest of his life. With all of this, “Dadko” is born.
If you strip away Zuko’s anger, he just becomes the awkward-turtleduck-first-time-father that we all know and love. There’s more balance in the Gaang with him there to help and become an “authority” figure with Katara. They become the parents of the other members of the Gaang. It’s an interesting shift in their relationship- enemies to unsteady acquaintances to enemies to frenemies to friends. They’re close enough that they show small signs of physical intimacy and they tease each other.
Also if you look close enough when the Gaang walks into the “seedy Earth Kingdom tavern,” Zuko and Katara appear to be holding hands and are near each other from then until the finale episodes. They are clearly just great friends by the end of the show. I mean Zuko also takes a bolt of lightning to the chest for her...
Zuko doesn’t leave when his life gets difficult- not after he joins the Gaang. He made that mistake once and he won’t make it again. Aang was always part of the Gaang but continued to leave (again, I’m not mad at him for it but he never seems to realize the effect it has on the people around him- especially Katara). Zuko also doesn’t all but forget Katara and continue to run around the world. When Zuko fully decides to stick around, you best believe he is sticking around.
This works really well for Zutara. They’re both each other’s rock. They support each other and help each other in times of trouble. Do they argue? Yes. Is that a normal part of a healthy relationship- romantic or otherwise? Yes. Do they take care of and look out for each other while also not smothering or suffocating each other? Yes. I don’t know about you but this sounds stable and healthy to me. They balance each other out so well (I’m not going to get too into that because if you’re reading this you probably already know with the whole Tui and La, Yin and Yang, Oma and Shu thing).
Now, this is a big deal for me and it makes me furious, but Katara is forgotten by history. She has no statue. She is reduced to a housewife and healer- things our wonderful water feminist was afraid of becoming as an adult. I mean this girl
This girl
THIS GIRL
She becomes nothing but a housewife stuck in a healing hut who gets forgotten by the world and left behind by her family just... let’s all of that happen? Yeah that’s pretty unrealistic. I think about this frequently and with starting TLOK I have formed even more opinions and have a little thingy (I don’t know what to call it) for what happened to her.
Kya II is everything Teenage Katara wanted to do and be before settling down. Old Katara is everything Teenage Katara was so afraid of become reduced to/becoming.
It’s an interesting way to think about it and I thought I’d share. Now if Katara was Fire Lady, she wouldn’t end up like that. She’d have the power to change the world and continue to fight for what she believed in. She could have helped with the trail with Yakone. Katara has so much potential to not be forgotten or brushed aside and somehow it happened. It makes me so sad. The potential Zutara had to make sure Katara had a genuine legacy was right there at their finger tips and they didn’t use it. What a shame. What a shame.
With all of the things I’ve talked about, I just feel like Zutara would have been better for Katara than Kataang was. I think that’s more Bryke not developing the relationship well enough and instead choosing to be sloppy and selfish in the way they structured the relationship. Yeah this is my rambling on about the issue. Hope it was mildly entertaining! If you want me to write something about how Zuko would have benefited from Zutara, let me know!

Jason Todd’s canon origin is, fundamentally, a mess. And here’s why.
To start with, it very often happens in writing that you decide “I need this specific thing to have happened” and then have to find reasons for the characters to Do The Thing. That’s cool! That’s not bad writing!
Bad writing is deciding you need a thing to happen...and then making it happen without giving the characters reasons to do what they’re doing. And Jason is a great example of how this can go wrong!
To start with, let’s look at Robins in general. From the start, every Robin has been a writer-first decision—they decided they needed this character to have this position in the story, and then had to find a way to make that happen. The core question, always, is why does Bruce Wayne take this child into his life? And it needs a good answer because A) that’s a big decision and B) Bruce Wayne has a unique life and generally several compelling reasons not to take in a child.
Robin #1. Dick Grayson. They needed a reason for Bruce to take on this child as his ward and sidekick—why this kid? Why Dick, specifically?
Answer: Because he’s just been through the exact same trauma as Bruce’s defining trauma and has a similar temperament. Bruce is so particularly suited to helping him through it that he can’t not take him in. Good writing!
Robin #3, skipping ahead. Tim Drake. They needed a replacement for Jason, a new Robin to undarken things a little—but why would Bruce take in another kid after this tragedy? And why this kid, specifically?
Answer: Because Tim sees what the writers and audience see—”Batman needs a Robin”—and inserts himself into Bruce’s story. Because the need for a new Robin is so clear that even characters can see it—that is, instead of covering up their reasons, the writers leaned into them. Good Writing!
Robin #3.5, Stephanie Brown... Okay, her story was a trash fire. It was a crime against every character involved and I hate it. HOWEVER, unlike Jason’s origin, we can throw all of War Games into the fandom dumpster out back without losing beloved characters or any fundamental emotional beats! It actually makes things better because we don’t have to deal with heroes and good people hurting/killing/abusing each other, or a teenage girl being needlessly tortured!
Answer: ...we don’t need a good answer to their objectives because the objectives were bad. Jettison the whole thing. If you want Steph as an interim Robin you can just say Tim had, I dunno, strep or something, and she stepped in. War Games is the worst possible version of Robin Steph and contributed nothing but wholesale character assassination.
ANYWAY. Robin #4, Damian Wayne. The writer wanted him to join the family without anyone liking or trusting him, and without a Robin slot for him to fill immediately. That’s tough. Why this kid specifically? How is he bonded to the family?
Answer: He’s Bruce’s unknown biological son! Perfect. Automatically Bruce’s responsibility. I have problems with Damian’s arc but his intro works, good writing.
And then...we have Jason. Robin #2, the first experiment in “making a new Robin.” They, quite blatantly, wanted someone to replace Dick. (Because he was currently the property of the NTT creative team, and their vision of “increasingly capable leader of a team having their coming-of-age stories and fighting fullsize threats every week” did not fit well with Gotham’s demands of “Batman’s kid who we bring back from college whenever we need a Boy Hostage.”) So obviously that leaves questions. Why would Batman give Dick’s place to a new kid? And why this kid, specifically?
We have two versions of the answer here!
1: Pre-Crisis Jason Todd, the blond one, was SUPER clearly Replacement Dick—he was, in fact, a tragically orphaned circus acrobat whose parents were murdered (by Killer Croc, this time) while they were performing in Gotham. And...y’know, given this implausible thing happening, Bruce adopting him DOES make sense! He and Dick would both see it as fitting that he helps this kid, especially since he now has actual experience in raising orphaned acrobats. He has a successful track record and everything.
2: Given, however, that this was blatantly contrived AND Blond Jay didn’t have much to distinguish him from Dick, they decided to rewrite it completely. Post-Crisis Jason is a homeless orphan with a dead drug-addict mom and a convict dad, and... there’s NO clear answer to the questions posed above?
Seriously. There really isn’t.
Bruce and Jason’s interactions are: 1. Batman catches child stealing the Batmobile’s tires, finds out he’s homeless; 2. Batman takes child to a boys’ home and gets him taken in; 3. Batman catches child stealing his tires again, learns from child that the Home is actually a front for some kind of Artful Dodger setup where the boys are forced to do more crime; 4. Batman and child bust the Home together; 5. Batman decides to make the child his new Robin.
There is NO compelling reason there for Bruce Wayne to bring this child into either side of his life, let alone BOTH! I mean... you can’t tell me that he hasn’t had equally meaningful interactions with dozens of other kids, over the years. This is NOT SUFFICIENT.
“Bruce saw himself in Jason” “They bonded during this” These are things we, the fans, can insert into our versions of this story. Those are good versions, I like them and I have my own in my head! But we have to insert them ourselves. It’s not there in the outline like Dick and Damian’s links to Bruce, or Tim’s claim to Robin, all are. The closest thing we have is that Bruce thinks Robin will help “channel Jason’s anger,” which... A) still not sufficient, and B) that actually makes it WORSE??
(Because the implication is that he needs “rehabilitating” to not “go bad,” which, uhhhhhhh, is NOT a good place to adopt a child from OR the kind of person you should bring into your household on a whim—especially when you’re BATMAN. You don’t give a kid you don’t trust access to your home, access to your preexisting kid’s AND the JLA’s secret identities, and ADVANCED FIGHTING SKILLS.)
ANYWAY. There’s no good reason given for Bruce to take in Jason... and HERE we see why out-of-universe reasons matter. Because they reflect in-universe factors, and if you DON’T account for that...
Well, then the most obvious explanation for Jason being Robin is still “to replace Dick.” But in-universe, that means BRUCE is trying to use him to replace Dick—after all, what makes this different from every other orphan Bruce has helped? Only the fact that when he met Jason, Dick had recently left home and the Dynamic Duo.
And I hate this explanation!! It’s gross and super unfair to Jason as a person and paints their relationship as unhealthy from the start!! My Batman would never do this to a child!! But canon didn’t give us a better answer.
So yeah, this is one of the reasons why Jason’s time as Robin is inherently a Problem from a writing perspective.
It’s a pain!!
#obviously there are other reasons#the massive snarl that was continuity then#the increasing tendency towards Unhealthy Interpersonal Drama that pushed every rewrite into worse territory#and that's not even touching the CLASSISM inherent in so much of jason's presentation#jason todd#batfamily#meta#on reread this ended up a little more manic than i realized and i'm not sure why? that's fine though#jason deserves some exclamation points

This is my Idea
Chapter 1: Trust
Happy @shikatemaweek my deers! OMG! I’ve been so excited about this week and seeing all the amazing content from some incredible creators! I got into the fandom so late so this is Baby’s First ShikaTema Week!
This story is Canon Divergent. Don’t worry too much about what’s going on in everyone else's storyline because it doesn't really affect ShikaTem. Also just know that Temari’s parents are alive and Rasa is not a complete monster. Okay, happy reading!
Prompt: Trust
Ages:
Shika: 13
Tem: 15
Summary: At a young age, Shikamaru is tasked with guiding the Princess Temari around Konoha every Summer. It was an assignment neither one was happy with but over time those feelings changed.
*
**
“Lord Kazekage, it’s an honor to welcome you and your daughter to the village.” The Hokage warmly greeted the duo.
“We have assigned a Chunin level Shinobi to accompany your daughter around the village during our meetings. He will remain her guard for all of Princess Temari’s trips in the future. He is one of our best and they are close in age so I feel that they should get along quite well.” The Kazekage had warned the Hokage in advance about his daughter’s temperament; he assured him that they’d have a capable Shinobi available.
“Shikamaru…”
The recently promoted Chunin moved forward bowing politely. “It’s an honor Lord Kazekage and Princess Temari. I will do my absolute best to ensure your comfort and safety while you are here in the village.”
The newly formed alliance with Suna was a huge step forward towards peace. The Kazekage was there to work out the important details. He brought along his daughter because the plan was for her to take on the role of ambassador. To bring the countries together she would spend her Summers in Konoha for the foreseeable future. This was to build unity and familiarity while she conducted important alliance work. Shikamaru knew that it was an important mission some would even call it an honor. He saw it as a complete chore. He tried as hard as he could to avoid making it look like he’d rather be anywhere than there.
She was taller than him with four bunches of blonde hair and teal eyes. She might be considered cute if it wasn’t for the look of utter hatred and disdain on her face. Her expression matched how he was feeling.
Temari glared at the Shinobi standing in front of her. He was shorter than her despite the obnoxious pineapple hair. He was probably younger than her too. How the hell was he supposed to protect her?
“Temari.” The Kazekage pushed her forward towards the Shinobi. Putting on her best smile and not wanting to incur any rage from her father she nodded.
“Thank you Shikamaru, I know that we will have a pleasant time together.” She replied through clenched teeth.
“Alright kids, we will see you back here at 5. Shikamaru, please keep a close eye on Princess Temari.” The Hokage directed as he and the Kazekage went towards his office.
“Yes sir.”
The second they were outside of the Hokage’s office Temari leveled Shikamaru with a look pushing a finger against his chest.
“Listen here, I don’t need an escort. I can take care of myself.”
He rolled his eyes and looked at her with a bored expression. “And you listen, I didn’t want this damn assignment, babysitting a spoiled princess all Summer was not my idea. But your dad and the Hokage expect us to play nice so stop being such a drag.”
Temari felt the rage starting to build. At first, she was excited about the prospect of going to Konoha. Any way that she could help her village she’d gladly take on. This was not what she expected.
“A drag? You arrogant little! Screw this!” Faster than he could react she was gone in a flash forcing him to run after her. He would rather she get lost but the Hokage would have his head if something happened to the Princess.
“What is your problem? Get back here!” He yelled, chasing her across the rooftops.
“Do your job better!!!” She teased him racing forward. As annoying as this whole situation was, it was kind of fun weaving through and trying to lose him. Seeing him become increasingly frustrated.
“Stop chasing me!” She demanded once they hit the tree line. She went into the treetops trying to stay hidden.
“Stop being troublesome and I won’t have to!” Like that was going to happen. She went to dart across to the next tree but found herself completely stuck.
“What the hell?”
“Shadow possession jutsu complete.” She felt her body turn to face an all too smug Shikamaru.
A shadow user, of course. She should have asked him what his jutsu was in the beginning.
”Let go of me! I’m a Princess.” She demanded in disbelief that he caught her.
“No, you’re being a brat!” He yelled back.
“The second your jutsu falls I’m running.”
She was strong and he could feel himself struggle to hold it. He knew he had a time limit before it would break. “Look, I don’t like this any more than you do but we need to make this work. I won’t be any more annoying or invasive than I have to be but you’re going to have to give me something to work with here. It’s pretty obvious that you don’t need me to protect you so I won’t even try to step into that kind of role. Think of me as a guide while you’re here.”
Temari struggled before letting her body go lax. She knew that her father wouldn’t be too happy knowing that she acted this way. This wasn’t the way a future ambassador should behave. Perhaps she could just ignore him for the time that they were there.
“Fine. I won’t run. I get you’re stuck with me but you’re going to give me my freedom okay.”
“Fine.” He dropped his shadows giving her back control over her body. Before he could blink he was thrown back into a tree by a gust of wind.
“Damn it….”. He groaned, so much for trusting her.
“You deserve that for using your Jutsu on me.” Temari grinned above him but held a hand out. With a sigh, he took it standing up. That was a dirty move but at least she was still there.
“We’re even now.”
“I’m hungry, take me somewhere to eat.”
Shikamaru had to physically stop himself from rolling his eyes at the demand. The alliance with Suna was important so he’d have to ensure the Princess didn’t say anything that would put it at risk.
“Okay, come along.”
He chose to avoid popular places in town not wanting to run into his friends who thought his assignment was hilarious. Instead, he took her out towards the Nara lands. His clan members thought that the assignment was actually quite an accomplishment so he hoped that they wouldn’t give him too much grief. They didn’t bother him but he saw their smiles and knowing looks. It would only be a matter of time before his mother tried to find him to ensure that he was treating the Princess with the respect she deserved.
“So what’s there to do around here?”
“Well, there’s shopping and uh salons?” He offered, those were things that Ino enjoyed.
Her lips immediately curled into a frown. “Does it look like I’m interested in things like that?”
“I assumed because you were a Princess and a girl, yes?”
Hopeless, this kid was completely hopeless. “Figure out something that we can do or I’m running off again.”
“Fine, geez. How about we go train, get some of that aggression out of you.” The suggestion was partly a joke but earlier when she’d run off there seemed to be a genuine smile on her face.
Temari contemplated the thought but nodded. She did enjoy practicing her jutsu and she relished an opportunity to put this kid in his place. As annoyed as Temari was at Shikamaru using his shadows against her, there was a part of her that was impressed. It was very difficult to outwit her. Practicing her jutsu with him could be fun.
“That will be fine.”
They spent the rest of the Summer training with one another. She was a very talented wind user and had a strategic mind. Developing counters for her moves was fun and challenging. They kept score for all their Summers together.
For as bad of a start that they had as the days passed the company became more pleasant. He was thankful to find out that despite being a little high maintenance and demanding at times she was actually quite interesting and engaging. She appreciated that despite how young he was and prone to complaining he was a genius, quick-witted, and dependable. Every morning she looked forward to where the day would take them.
He taught her to play Shogi and their games would sometimes go on for a few days because neither would admit defeat. They explored all of Konoha and the Nara lands. He began to integrate her with his friends and they would all hang out together. They would look forward to her visits as much as he would. Some of the best days they had were when they would do little to nothing at all besides watching the clouds float by.
When the first leaf changed its color their first Summer together finally came to an end. It took some time but by the end of it trust in one another had been built. They had become close friends and confidants.
“Thanks, Shikamaru. It’s actually been pretty fun.” Temari admitted with a smile.
He shrugged trying to keep his expression neutral but the acknowledgment was astounding. “Thanks for being a little less troublesome.”
She shook her head with a grin, okay she was pretty cute. “I’ll see you next year?”
“See you then.” He watched her figure disappear into the horizon with a smile. So this would be his Summers for the foreseeable future. Perhaps it wouldn’t be too bad.

So this is a different take on Shika being Tem’s guide in the village and also inspired by Swan Princess the movie :D
I’m approaching this week differently. Instead of doing small one-shots for each of the prompts I’m going to write one full story trying to use the prompts. I had to get...let’s say ‘creative’ to make the prompts work but I think that I did okay with them. This story is going to go fast. Either way, I hope that you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for stopping by to read! There is so much more incredible content, art, and stories out there, especially for this week! Go forth, love you all, and love ShikaTema!

👶 Would your muse be a good parent? Do they want to be a parent, if they are not already? (for every single muse on this blog. every single one. why can i ask such a large request? 1) i know what you're about, son. 2) i'm me and u love me : 3c) // @craterkissed // symbol meme. // accepting.
Aerith: I mean, canon shows that Aerith can be great with kids, which is something I appreciate the remake for showing. While she struggles with connecting with others, you see the sense of empathy inherent in being a Cetra through her interactions with Marlene, and it adds a nice layer to this otherwise standoffish and emotionally distant woman. That said... That isn’t necessarily maternal? She has no aspirations in that direction, at any rate. Her own childhood spat out someone who bucks at the idea of introducing a child to the world she’s been dragged through. She might settle for being the cool aunt for the children of loved ones, but refuses to have a child of her own or bring up one.
Aqua: She kind of already is? Like I think there’s a very real sense of her being very motherly and mature in spite of her youth, especially in her interactions with Ven and other youngsters in the narrative. She makes a good mother figure to them, even for all her personal flaws. In spite of that, she still has a lot of issues to work through, so while I think she would like to have a family of her own someday, it’s a long ways off and unlikely to happen before she has a handle on her own problems. She doesn’t want to be the kind of parent her own children have to heal from, like her own father figure was to her, however accidentally.
Stray: There’s potential there to be a good mom, as she’s already largely taken that role for others in the past. However, that skill was largely born from age-inappropriate parentification, and stands in stark contrast to several of Stray’s other desires and goals. As a result, she’s largely ambivalent to the thought of motherhood, lacking both a partner and a clear future to consider the possibility with. She’s pretty young at the start of the narrative, and has plenty of time in the years to come to decide whether it’s something she’d be interested in pursuing with whoever she might marry.
Braska: By all accounts, he was a great father. He stood loyally by Yuna for her early childhood, encouraged her, did his best to make things safe and loving for his child who was going to face so much in life. I truly believe he was a wonderful father in contrast to Jecht -- but he was an imperfect man. He was willing to sacrifice it all to leave a legacy Yuna could be proud of, in the hopes she might live free of the fear and sorrow they had both faced in the wake of her mother’s death. The problem is, he dreamt up a solution that left Yuna lonelier than before. You can read his sacrifice a lot of ways, but it’s effect on his daughter was clear. He was a wonderful father, but he failed where it counted in some regards.
Crowe: Like Aerith, Crowe would be most comfortable in the role of ‘cool aunt’ over being a mom. There is no love lost between Crowe and kids, who she largely regards as loud and annoying in the majority and halfway tolerable in the rare case one doesn’t earn her ire. She’s definitely down to be the badass rebellious honorary aunt to any children her friends might have, but without being really responsible for them or a good role model. Honestly Kleffy and I have a verse where she’s godmother to a tiny Galahdian namesake and it goes... Poorly. Big Crowe is the voice of impulse that Little Crowe is trying very hard to ignore.
Eraqus: Just hit me with the hard ball questions, damn. So to preface this, I understand fandom has some STRONG opinions on Eraqus as a parent, and I disagree with both camps. He wasn’t some verbally or emotionally abusive pillar of stone who intentionally set his students up for failure. He also wasn’t some angelic and always right patriarch who did no wrong until Xehanort meddled in their little Paradise. I think he did his best, but was ignorant and had a lot of pride that put him at odds with what his students needed or were, but he tried to love them regardless. What we see in BBS is a worst case scenario in terms of his direct actions past a certain point, and while these do show his deep zealotry for light, I think it’s not totally fair to hold them up as what he was as a parent in general. His flaws lie more in how he put down darkness to Terra’s detriment, how he so coddled Ventus in spite of his want for a life like his friends had, and basically setting up Aqua to follow his path and past mistakes, not in a clearly difficult decision he made thinking the world would literally end otherwise. He was wrong to do what he wanted to do to Ven, but I think his problems as a parent aren’t reflected in that. I have a whole meta about this on my old blog I’ll have to rb because my feelings on Eraqus as a father are really long and complicated having mused both he and one of his kids.
Invi: Invi will be the first to admit she’s got no particular skill with children. She’s a stern leader and demands the best from her union, and shows some deeper understanding of how to communicate with the youths in Anguis, but without the soft moments that can make such a relationship meaningful or deeper. Even with her younger siblings, she tends to push them a little too far, and is downright competitive with them when it comes to having the Master’s time or attention. She lacks the patience or understanding for good parenting, and lacks any interest in being a mother. The most she might aim for is to take on a student of her own someday, but it’d be just that: a teacher and student relationship.
Isa: No. Isa does not delude himself about fatherhood. He has spent too long grappling with the emotional and mental scars his own angry father left behind to even consider becoming that to a child. He knows his temperament and track record do not paint an optimistic picture, or even a halfway decent one. He has no inclination towards the idea, and in fact balks at it. His history with Roxas and Xion alone show he is awful with children. Even allowing for changes as a Somebody, it just means he gains the self-awareness to look back on his actions and his own youth and say the cycle stops with him in totality.
Kokoro: I mean, the kid she’s helped raise the last ten years isn’t complaining. Despite occasional friction that comes with adolescence, Mads clearly adores her adoptive mom, and never really gripes about her as a mother, just a cryptic seeker of knowledge. Kokoro herself understands she can make a lot of mistakes in her life, but parenting cannot be one of them -- Not like her father made mistakes with her. While she’s struggled at times in suddenly being responsible for a complete stranger, Kokoro has overall enjoyed the experience of motherhood. I’d say of my lady muses, she is the most prepared for it, and would ultimately enjoy having more children in the future, whether by adoption as with Mads or trying for biochildren with a partner.
Roxas: He is a child. That said, in at least one far future setting my friends and I have, he’s a good Master to his students but clearly disinterested in being an actual dad. He can hardly handle himself some days, why would he ever want to be in charge of another living creature on top of that?
Steria: She has all the skills to be a good mom and the personality to be a really fun, reasonable kind of parent. Steria never really thought about these things when younger, despite expectations put upon her by certain arrangements in her life, but as she grew to adulthood... She was really excited to start a family of her own and give her kids all the time and love that was so touch and go in her own upbringing. When her daughter was born, she had every intention of giving her the world. The fact she never got to be the loving mother and shelter for Kokoro growing up is one of the cruelest parts of her death.
Drautos: This is... a many layered answer. I think he would be a good parent in that he would prepare any child for the world and teach them how to be a better person than he himself is. He would provide stability, comfort, and safety for a child. But when you look at his track record with his subordinates and his ultimate aims, it all falls apart. I could easily see him being a distant but exacting father who makes up for in opportunities what he lacks in warmth. It would be a mess. Thank God this man has no intention of raising children in a bubble like Lucis.

FFXV Popband!AU Headcanons
I actually had started a fanfic of this started a few years ago when FFXV first came out but I know I’ll never finish it, so I thought why not make it into a headcanon post. I originally went with a boyband but I kinda didn’t think anyone of the boys would be a drummer. Also, please see the end notes for more information.
This is a bit long so I put it under “read more”.
Prompto is the lead singer of the band. He has the sweet flower boy image. Is the one with the most stage fright but once the music turns on, he just forgets about him being on stage and gets really into it. He is super shy when meeting his fans but they love him even more for that. He gets scolded by Luna and Ardyn a lot because he tends to reveal too much in interviews but he can’t help it, he just gets so excited and wants to share what they are working on and how they live and so forth.
Noctis is the backup singer and guitarist. He has the brooding pretty boy image. But he is actually just as nervous (but hides it way better than Prompto) when he meets his fans and is super sweet and kind to them. He lets the others do the talking in interviews, Luna is trying to motivate him to become more proactive but to no avail. He actually trains a lot by himself and puts a lot of effort into every performance. Sometimes clashes with Gladiolus due to Noctis sometimes rather childish attitude and laziness.
Ignis is the keyboardist and songwriter. He has the cold prince image. He also functions as the intermediator whenever Luna isn’t there to stop the fights. He always knows what to say to the fans and is super happy for the love they receive by their fans, that’s why fan meetings are one of his favourite things about this job. He is usually the one calming the others down in interviews when they get too excited and he always has a perfect answer to everything. Despite his usual stoic and sometimes rather calculating demeanor, his songs are full of emotion, he can express his feelings the best in his writings.
Gladiolus is the bassist. He has the bad boy image. His temperament gets him in trouble with paparazzi's sometimes, much to Gentiana’s annoyance. He’s very flirty with his fangirls but treats them with respect, so even if the magazine call him a “fuckboy” his fans don’t cease to fangirl over him and melt whenever he smiles at them. He is quite smart and knows how to talk his way out of uncomfortable interview questions. He usually practices with the whole band, practicing alone makes him bored after a short time and he feels he improves faster when he hears himself out of tune with the other members.
Cindy is the drummer. She initially wasn’t part of the band when they were still a garage band, but their drummer left after a feud. They were on the verge of signing the contract with the Izunia Music Group record label, so they needed a drummer. Cindy has been a childhood friend of Prompto and Noctis so they kinda roped her into it last minute. But she actually enjoys it and it allows her to spend a lot of money on cars, so whenever she doesn’t practice with the band she is fixing old cars and pimps them up into really cool cars or helps out her grandad at his car repair shop. She has a very big fanbase despite “just” being the drummer. She’s the one who is mostly active on social media.
Iris is the stylist of the band. She is always super hyper and gushing about how great they look with her clothing choices. She also hypes the members up before the big show, to help them feel confident on stage. She always manages to find the perfect clothing for any kind of event, be it the Music Awards or some themed event. They never look bad. Iris also introduces the members to all the memes and newest inside jokes in the band fandom. As she is the sister of Gladiolus, she tags along to the events and such as well and makes sure they look good all night.
Lunafreya is the manager. Despite her quite young age she is one of the best. She helps the band members relax before any major performance and makes sure they are always hydrated and giving their best. She tries to fulfill the wishes of the members, but in turn she expects a lot from them. She might usually be gentle but if anyone of the band pisses her off because they think it’s okay to be lazy or don’t reflect on their behavior or break the rules, she will scold them quite harshly. She has an exceptional organizational talent and that shows in how she schedules everything and makes things work despite all odds.
Ardyn is the CEO of the Izunia Music Group. While the band members won’t see him often, if he does come by to check on things, absolutely everyone is on edge because you don’t piss off THE Ardyn Izunia and you certainly don’t make mistakes. He loves his little charm aka Lunafreya for her hardworking nature and finding the band and making them into popstars. He lets her do most of the management but if she can’t handle something (there can be quite some annoying and snobbish business partners) he will handle it and she can be sure everything will work. He makes the impossible possible. He is the creepy dude that you don’t expect to be rich because of his poor fashion taste but is somehow really charming and attracts a lot of people.
Ravus is the director for the music videos and he is such a perfectionist to the point that he will make them do a scene again because Noctis face should have been turned to the side a teeny tiny bit more, like by 5 degrees. Ravus often tends to bicker with Noctis and Ravus as he feels like they don’t take his commands seriously. Much to Lunafreya’s and Ignis’ annoyance. But you can bet that the music video will turn out incredible well, almost like an art masterpiece. Ravus is quite creative and that shows in all his work.
Gentiana is the head of the marketing department at Izunia Music Group and works a lot with Lunafreya to make sure she promotes the bands correctly. Sometimes she even stops by when Noctis & others are in the middle of a photoshoot or music video shoot just to see how she can implement things into their marketing campaign. She never actually tells them how she promotes the band, so they usually are surprised when they suddenly find their face plastered on a bus or see a commercial of them on TV. But they are never disappointed. She knows what she is doing and enjoys gushing to Lunafreya about all her ideas.
Aranea is the photographer. She seemed a bit harsh at first so they dreaded doing photoshoots with her but once they warmed up to her after they did a good job, they realized she’s just a hard worker and wants the models to be amazed by the photos she took. She can easily lose track of time when she is concentrated on taking pictures of her models and seems to have an endless amount of ideas. But she lets the band members run wild with their own imagination as well, so she can get authentic photos of them for special fan events.
End notes:
JFC finally finished it, this has been on my draft for a long time because I always forgot about it or had no time to sit down and write it all.
I know this isn’t as realistic as it could be, but I didn’t want it to be too realistic, to me it was more fun making them be THE music band everyone wants and so some characters might come off as “Mary Sue” like and some jobs might not be exactly the same as in real life. I apologize for that.
I took a bit of inspiration from Korean bands.
I did choose to use Ardyn Izunia instead of Lucis Caelum because I didn’t wanted them to be related in this fanfic as I didn’t plan to make him appear often.

Do you have any headcanons on either Ly or the People of Prhys you could share?
Oh boy do I ever!
I’m sure by now most people in the fandom know or has experienced it, but it can get exceedingly difficult to put together a reliable timeline, considering the conflicting events (god help you if you’re including Origins/Legends). Needless to say there’s a bunch of things in the Rayman universe I assume to be gross exaggerations, mainly for the purpose of not losing my mind. With that said, Ly and the People of Phrys.
First of all, I should note that a lot of the promo material, especially the artwork for Rayman 2, seem to suggest that the friendship between Rayman and Ly has been around far longer than just the events of 2/Revolution. Based on information from the old R2 website, it can also be reasonably assumed that the events of 2 weren’t the first time Rayman has come across the pirates (Razorbeard is another issue entirely if you wish to take the Animated Series into consideration). More on this later.

I believe Ly and Rayman are close to the same age, though exactly which of them is older is a frequent topic of debate, made all the more difficult by Rayman coming into existence as at the very least an older child (depending on how old you think he is in 1).
Considering the People of Phrys are only every mentioned in an off-hand note, I personally think they were a fairly reserved society with not as much contact with the mainland of Polokus. Whether this is because they served a different god or were merely very prone to isolating themselves is anyone’s guess, though the note implying secrets would suggest the latter.
Taking their high status into account, the nymphs were probably one of the few people who could reliably set foot upon their lands (accompanied by the requisite amount of Teensies for transportation). As secretive as they may have been though, they probably did recognize the importance of gaining knowledge (or were merely convinced by the nymphs) and either through their recommendation, or Betilla’s decision, Ly is chosen as an envoy and, essentially, transfer student at a very young age. Young enough to still be receptive to the outside world and able to learn many things she could eventually bring home and help enrich their culture.
Based on her promo material and general behavior she was likely an attentive and respectful child when learning, but wild and prone to exploring the forest for days on end, whenever she could.

Betilla has been shown to unlock Rayman’s abilities in 1, but Silver Lums are still something we’ve only ever seen specifically from Ly. This is more than likely an extremely rare talent, especially when you consider how instrumental Lums of all kind are to the fabric of the world. It is talent the nymphs would recognize as extremely important to cultivate. However, unlike with her teachers (especially Betilla, her primary mentor, Holly, who believes to this day that she has a beautiful singing voice, if only she could be more confident about it, and Anetta, who adores her despite Ly’s aversion to large bodies of water), she never quite got along with other fairies (apart from Tily).
Whether this is because she’s so different, or if it’s envy because the nymphs favored her, is anyone’s guess. Still, no wonder she chose the depths of the Glade as her home, instead of the Council. Likewise no wonder that her other favored spots are a stele and a cave!

Either way, she ended up finding kinship with other “odd” fellows of the Glade instead, such as Clark, Globox, and of course, Rayman. Another group she ends up befriending are the Teensies, whom she follows around with curiosity, as due to the isolated nature of her homeland, they were seldom found there. The Teensies find her curiosity adorable and they end up taking a liking to her. This grows into immense respect as she protects them during the Pirate invasion. So much so, that they have created several monuments in her honor, and out of pure affection, often in places fairies usually wouldn’t access on their own, so as not to fuel any existing animosity.

Going forwards in time, I believe she returned to Phrys at a certain time. The first skirmish of the Pirates is beaten, but either the main force, or a second attack comes rolling in and things quickly go out of hand. Ly breaks the isolation and calls upon her friends for assistance and while they are relatively successful, the sudden attack and damage to the land is too much for its inhabitants to bear. The People of Phrys panic, and turn to desperate measures, unearthing the secrets they held, the very ones Ly tried to help them protect (with spotty knowledge on what they even were). The results were… exceedingly bad.

It’s hard to place when or how this art piece occurs (if it does at all, since there’s some things that just didn’t end up in the main game), but after initially believing it just show the Pirate’s devastation, I now think it shows something different. I believe this piece takes place immediately in the aftermath. The People of Phrys are gone. Ly is devastated. Clark is waving goodbye to a land he once helped shape and Polokus is likewise distraught, whether they were his children or not (I don’t think Rayman realized who he was at this point in time, and he may only be there as a temporary manifestation, hence his introduction later in 2).
In any case, the people Ly wanted to protect are now gone. This is incredibly hard for her to swallow and while she does try to hide it, the (perceived) failure weighs heavily on her, for years on end. It drives her deeper into her studies, resulting in even further isolation from the Council and her other fairy kin, from which her friends work tirelessly to pull her out of. While she has no concrete proof, she desperately wants to believe that whatever happened to her people is just some kind of massive displacement, rather than eradication. After all, much of this world is centered on dreams, who can say they might not be out there somewhere?
I believe this ends up being something that drives her to obsessively learn and sometimes even vanish for certain amounts of time, which is why she seldom appears following Rayman 2/Revolution. Whether this is good for her in the long run is anyone’s guess. Such frustration, combined with the magic she possesses, could prove volatile in some cases.

As for other things, I also think she would get along relatively well with Barbara, though the latter would likely consider Ly to be far too stuck-up and serious for her temperament. It would drive her tease Ly on occasion, to which she sometimes would respond in kind, though she would defer to her in most cases that cannot be solved by just planting the business end of an axe in them.
I believe Ly might actually be a bit jealous even, considering how far Barbara has been able to go adventuring with Rayman and co.; something she would like to do as well, but unfortunately she just cannot cope with the extreme changes in temperature, such as in Gourmand Land or the Blue Mountains. Nevertheless, she would never outwardly show that.
~ ~ ~
I think that about covers it! I’m very fond of Ly as a character and really hope she’ll make another appearance in a future Rayman game. I wouldn’t necessarily count on finding out more about the People of Phrys, but Michel Ancel and his team are unpredictable enough that anything could happen.
I may have forgotten about a couple of minor, flavor things, but those will probably end up appearing in some shape or form in my writing.
Thank you for tuning in to my essay on this lovable cat-fairy! All images are courtesy of the RaymanPC Wiki.
#reply#rayman#ly#headcanon#I would love hyrule historia equivalent for rayman but I'm afraid it'd just add even more questions

Ruan Meili-Jia’s Relationships
Another unsolicited post about my OC, Meili-Jia. Part of the reason I decided to post this is to show that, yes, I’m still playing the game and yes, this blog is still alive. Because I made Meili-Jia for the Royal Chaos fandom and in the universe (more or less) I decided to discuss her relationships with... well... everyone.
Emperor Mu Lingchen: There is no doubt that Meili-Jia loves the emperor. Happy to be his soundboard whenever he needs to talk through things, Meili-Jia is mostly just happy to even just spend time “parallel playing” in his office (for those who don’t know, parallel play is a term in child development for when two children do individual activities beside each other by their own choosing). She’s happy to bear his children and happy to spend time with him.
Shi Quici: Meili-Jia feels betrayed by Quici, but not to the point of holding a grudge. She feels her actions are unwarranted and makes sure that Quici is banished from the palace, but she isn’t so heartless that she would kill her.
Noble Consort Nian Suyan: Meili-Jia tries to avoid the Imperial Noble Consort as much as possible and keep interactions to the very bare minimum. When she does interact, she’s polite but chooses her words and company carefully. She never is around Suyan one-on-one if she can help it.
Li Yueru: Meili-Jia didn’t have many interactions with Consort Peace very often, so she has a somewhat neutral opinion of her. Though when accused of attempting to cause a miscarriage, Meili-Jia didn’t try to argue right away. She knew that staying calm could keep her safe.
Ye Xiu: Again, Meili-Jia didn’t have many interactions with Xiu. The few times they interacted, Meili-Jia tried to be kind, but it wasn’t always well received.
Wen Ruyan: Meili-Jia considers Ruyan to be one of her best friends. She often goes to spend time with her and go on walks with her and Yunyue, enjoying their company. She finds that Ruyan is the closest thing to a sister she truly has, and is eternally grateful to have such a wonderful friend. Whenever things get rough, they often console each other.
Xiao Weizi: Meili-Jia treats all her servants well, though she has a soft spot for Wei and Yuexiu. While Eunuchs are often used for “safe erotic uses”, Meili-Jia wouldn’t dream of sleeping with Wei. In her mind, he’s like a younger brother (despite him being about four or five years older than her). She often leaves Huan (her cat) in his care.
Eldest Prince Mu Beiyan: Meili-Jia loves children in general, so of course she had a soft spot for her nephew. Sometimes she’d kiss his cheeks and give him sweets, or stand behind his teachers or mother when they were scolding him and give signs that he was okay and not to worry. She mourned deeply at his death.
Empress Xiao Lianyi: While somewhat jealous of the empress, Meili-Jia is still very respectful. Much like the Imperial Noble Consort, she doesn’t go out of her way to keep the empress company or to talk with her; however she will not try to worm her way out of a one-on-one conversation or to decline an offer to spend time together. She’s not foolish enough to test the empress’s patience... or power.
Xu Rongyuan: Meili-Jia didn’t often play with Rongyuan when she was younger, so she didn’t know him very well before coming to the palace. For a brief time, she thought he was the boy she met in ‘the secret garden’, but he explained that it was someone else. She encourages him to pursue his dreams and passions, and not force himself to do things out of “duty”.
Lord Mu Linghao (Yi): Meili-Jia is friendly with Lord Yi, but not excessively. She usually let’s the emperor speak to his brother in private, and rarely talks to Lord Yi one-on-one; not because she dislikes him or doesn’t trust him, just because she doesn’t want the emperor to doubt her.
Yunyue: Much like Ruyan, Meili-Jia is very close with Yunyue. They often spend time together and go on walks. Whenever Meili-Jia needs a logical view point on an issue or topic, she knows she can rely on Yunyue. Meili-Jia views Yunyue like an older sister, not only because she is actually older but also because she tends to help her like an older sister would.
Tong Lilou: Meili-Jia never trusted Lilou and tried to avoid her at all costs, even to the point of taking a longer route to her destination if it meant not running into the other concubine. While normally respectful, Meili-Jia would deliberately ignore Lilou and not turn to her when called or even shrug off her touch. When asked about the ‘drowning incident’, Meili-Jia simply said, “If it were a choice between dying and touching her, I’d rather die. What makes you think I’d push her into the pond if I can’t stand to even look at her, let alone touch her?”
Imperial Gourmet Fu Congzhi: Meili-Jia thinks he’s a good actor, but never spoke to him enough to have more of an opinion of him.
Song Yuanlu: Meili-Jia is aware of Yuanlu, but isn’t intimate enough with her to know much of her. At most, she thinks she is childish, despite being roughly the same age.
Princess Jingxue: Meili-Jia has much respect and admiration for the princess, and feels happy that Jingxue is willing to talk with her. Because they are close in age, Meili-Jia feels almost like they are playmates, but is careful not to be too casual. She feels happy that Jingxue loves Rongyuan, and wishes them a happily ever after.
Cheng Daijia: Meili-Jia doesn’t know much about Daijia, only that she has a “greater than thou” air about her.
Ling Yilan: Meili-Jia knows that she is a sister of Ruo, but not much besides that*
Commander Yingge: The two don’t interact much. However, Meili-Jia feels that he has a “bad aura” about him.
2nd Prince Mu Beiyu: Again, Meili-Jia is a sucker for kids, so she dotes on him much like she did Beiyan. She’s a little more gentle with him and tends to speak in a softer tone around him, because she’s seen what he’s been through.
Wen Ruqing: Because Meili-Jia is close with Ruyan, she’s delighted to meet Ruqing. Much like how Ruyan looked out for her, Meili-Jia looks out for Ruqing. She cares for both deeply and wants to be friends with both sisters.
Shu Jaihui: While wary of Jaihui, Meili-Jia is kind and respectful towards her. She doesn’t deliberately avoid her like she did with Lilou, but she doesn’t make an effort to talk to her.
*I wanted to note that while Meili-Jia is basically the PC in the female route, she is not Ling Ruo. She doesn’t have any known siblings and some of her history and behavior is different than that of Ling Ruo.
Other things I want to mention are that it’s rather difficult to get Meili-Jia to actually hate someone. Most of the time she gets irritated with people, so the fact that she genuinely hates Lilou is both impressive and that it took certain actions to get to that point.
So! Here’s some relationships that are purely for Meili-Jia.
Princess Mu Bik: Seeing as Bik is her first child, Meili-Jia is over the moon about her. With each new action, Meili-Jia gets excited. She loves cuddling with Bik and talking to her, even though Bik usually only babbles back.
3rd Prince Mu Lei: Lei was born when Bik was a year old. He’s more vocal than Bik was, and seems to have developed his father’s temperament. Often times Meili-Jia will laugh and remark to the emperor that his son is just like his father. She showers Lei in kisses and sometimes sings to him.
Huan: Meili-Jia received Huan as a gift from the emperor for one of her birthdays. Huan is a long haired seal point cat that loves to cuddle and hide in clothing. Meili-Jia often plays with him using ribbons she isn’t using or is done with.

I find myself unable to think of Bakugou in any way more positive than "dislike", because he reminds me too much of the people who made my life miserable when I was growing up. (Not that it makes him bad; it's just my emotions.) Do you've any advice on how to bend my mind around that? I don't need to LOVE him, just mentally separate "him" and "the people who make grade school suck for me" so I won't irrationally hate him, because I don't LIKE hating characters.
Hi there! I’m glad to see you come forward, especially tosomeone who’s a big fan of him, after happening to see how far you’veventured through my tags already (whoa dedication!) to seek possible answers or further clarity about this, especially if it’s something that’s still bothering you, oraffecting/preventing you from fully enjoying the series. Because of that, I cantell how serious and genuine you feel about this, so I will take this seriouslyas well.
(Below, 1800+ words)
Another thing is that it’s okay to feel this way, your personal experiences are still valid, and there’s no obligation to force your feelings otherwise, or subject yourselfto content that may be uncomfortable for you. Please continue to take all theprecautions needed (blocking/blacklisting) for an enjoyable and productivefandom experience. But understanding that even if the characters may havecoincidental similarities to our pasts, they are not direct projections of us, the people in our lives, or our realities.Their world is not ours. So this awareness is another good step to have, tobegin seeing the story (and characters) more openly, objectively and closer tohow Hori originally intended.
Since you’re willing to learn more, and as you may have already seenfrom my content here, Bakugou (Kacchan)became my definitive fav character of the series, but not for thoselingering resentments mentioned. The compelling character I see is so much morebeyond that first ch’s established baseline, which was narratively placed and designedto contrast against who he becomes later on. As a means to gauge and appreciatehis growth and the journey of how far he’s changed into becoming a proper,well-rounded, better person and inspirationalhero. The kind of emotional narrativefocus that always gains my interest and priority to see develop. Already, theperson he is now at 215+ chs is not the same as who he was at ch1 (neither ishe the flanderized, fanon stereotype many have been misled or indoctrinated tofirmly believe he is), and he will keepon developing as the story marches on. I am fully on board to witness thathappen.
The challenge now, is not letting his initial baseline impression(or the feelings from your own separate –but equally valid– experiences, oreven the vitriol from others) stain or cloud that entire slow-burn progressionof the story going forward. Otherwise the important milestones and insightsinto his character that Hori leaves along the way (which can sometimes bedifficult to see from Deku’s limited pov) end up getting obscured, ignored, oroutright rejected from an internalized feeling of ‘hatred’ that tends to blockout anything newly introduced that would challenge that preconceived perceptionof him. However, to mentally reject such change and prevent the valuedimprovement of a growing person (a learning child in his formative years, forinstance), to otherwise keep the status quo static and unmoving, to permanentlystay rooted exactly the same way as thestart…would in fact be a much more toxic/harmful mindset to have, and actuallydefeats the purpose of telling a proper story as well.
Setbacks to that challenge unfortunately include thewidespread availability of biased mistranslations (even from official sources),poor/oversimplified characterizations from non-canon content(movies/novels/merch, etc) that’s not written directly by Hori, because all thesethings just reinforce and exacerbate the problem of inflating fanon stereotypesand those preconceived notions that people have already solidified in theirminds as true (when they often aren’t). It gets even worse, and ironicallyhypocritical, when those same people start feeling justified they can go out oftheir way to attack others (includingthe author) for how to ‘properly’ enjoy and interpret the series (for beingdifferent or ‘incorrect’ from the perceptions they believe to be right). Butwhat’s happened is they’ve begun to blindly act on feelings multiple levels sofar removed from what actually is (whatexists as presented within canon, vs what they believe in fanon, vs what exists separately that may beplaguing these people’s real lives), that by then, that kind of maladjustedsocial behavior is inexcusable. Stepping back and realizing when things start crossinglines irrationally out of hand, to prevent that kind of behavior from happeningin the first place, (and again, by taking measures to block/blacklist stuff thataggravates or makes you feel uncomfortable), is the much wiser approach toparticipating and enjoying fandom. So that no matter what happens or what otherssay, they can’t impact or ruin what you love about the series.
Which in my case, includes Kacchan’s character. Basedon what Hori has consistently presented in canon, I can conclude and freely admithe’s the only character I can fully trust. Amazing, right? Because he hasabsolutely nothing to hide. Everything he does (not through his harshwords/temperament, but through his genuine actions),is extremely forthright and honest. He does not half-ass things or hide anyother ulterior motives or malicious intent beyond his dedication to become the best hero. And he takes that goal very seriously. Striving for and expectingexcellence from himself (and all themental pressure that self-imposed perfectionism brings) and others. Currently in the manga that includes Deku now too, whomhe willingly goads (showing support in his own way) and checks in on for hisprogress too.
Remember his fights in the sports tournament, how he takesall challengers with equal commitment/opportunity (gender does not matter),provided they give him their best inturn as well, because to do otherwise –to go easy on them or hold back– wouldbe disrespectful and underestimating an opponent. There’s a very just and admirablehonor in that. Remember how he can’tstand anyone looking down on him, which includes how he misinterpreted Deku’sfeelings of admiration for disdain(he could not accurately read Deku’s intentions, and became so perplexed by himthat he assumed the worst: that Deku looked down on him instead). Considering the level of seriousness and effort he alwaysputs forth, to be confronted with the opposite would be personally insulting.
Remember when the villains invited him to join their ranks(because they misread and shallowly judged his character), he stuck to his idealsand outright refused their offer.(Boldly exploding villains in the face~) Risking death over playing it safe andlying to pretend to follow along totheir whims. (How brave and badass is that?!) Kacchan does not lie, cheat theeasy way out, or do things he’s not feeling or doesn’t agree with. Again, honesty. Becoming a villain, a traitor,or betraying those who’ve earned his trust? Absolutely no chance. Afterlearning AM’s secret and finally understanding/rectifying everything that didn’tadd up about Deku, would he go behind their backs by breaking promises? No way.Again, most trustworthy character.
Rereading the story a second time over, but from his perspective, practically doubled myappreciation and enjoyment of the series. Thinking about how the foundations oftheir society impacted his world views at such a young age, to the very betrayal he must have felt thinking achildhood friend lied to him aboutsomething as important/vital as a quirk. (And if we already know how he feelsabout cheating liars…hmm, faithful loyaltynow feels like a valued trait.) Other factors include his relatable giftedchild syndrome, all the complexes born from that, and for how extremely intelligent, competent, and much more calmly calculating he is than his short temper may lead one to believe. How he was oncea ‘big fish in a small pond’, now thrust into the ocean to compete among evenother bigger fish, with the pressure to both succeed and prove himself…all whilehis previous world views are checked and challenged every step of the way.
For years he’d been valued and praised for only the promisingpotential and primary trait of his strong quirk. (The reinforcement for his badbehavior on the other hand? Not valued with the same proper attention.) Alreadythat’s an unfortunate consequence of their quirk-filled, hero-commodified society. Think of justhow shallow/fake groupies would be, or how annoying and hollow it would feel tohave people cling to him just for that (for talent and skills over his meritsas a person), and just how difficult forming genuine, natural bonds would be… (Becomingself-reliant now becomes another added pressure he has to juggle on his own.) Beforequirks had ever entered the picture and complicated things further, Deku was probablyconsidered the closest friend he had. Until…misunderstandings happened, andthen the only thing he wanted was for Deku to stay away from him. (A misconception is that Kacchan actively soughtDeku out, when it’s actually the opposite: Kacchan only reacted if Dekuencroached on him too closely.) Because he feared how Deku made him feel, forcing him to face his own shortcomings, and address perceptions of reality hedid not want to face. Because for someone he perceived as the weakest, to boldly goagainst that and do what Deku did (help him out of concern/kindness, but thatintent only read as pitying to him),made him feel even below that. And what’slower than the low of the weakest/most useless? Pretty ouch, so stop followingand stay back. Yet Deku just kept on coming back no matter what, for reasons hecouldn’t yet understand. (Deku felt genuine care and admiration for him, whichKacchan hadn’t realized, so gah, dramatic irony.) His changing feelings, correctinghis attitude, and clarifying his relationship to Deku, who continually challengesand defies his very worldview and perception of weakness, brings a whole otherfascinating draw to the series, which would take a whole other essay to fully analyze(but which many other fans have thoroughly done so already).
Further considerations include his struggles facing other relatablefeelings. How he confronts the pain and weight of experiencing loss, survivor’sguilt, and assessing powerlessness and the inability to save situations beyondhis control. Internalizing self-doubt, hatred, failure, and inferiority…because‘if only he were stronger.’ What Isee is a child overburdened by expectations and responsibilities beyond hisyears…who has to learn to process and overcome many of those same feelings I’vealready gone through and had to come to terms with growing up. (The very reasonhe’s often and endearingly referred to as a ‘son.’) The majority of adults inhis life assumed he was already ‘strong enough’ and ‘fine’ on his own, theyneglected to give him proper mental guidance going forward (AM even admitsthis). And we unfortunately see the tragic consequences of that. But fortunately, things are getting better, and Hori’s story for him still isn’t over yet.
Overall, what I see is the chance for an excellent,multi-layered, and well-written character to become even better. And that’s why his narrative is so particularly engaging. Doeshe remind me of the kids that once made certain social aspects of grade schoolinsufferable? No, because that’s not who he is; he’s so far removed and beyond them, that they’ve become extras whono longer matter anymore. Instead of lingering on such negatives, it’s insteadthe positive aspects about him that shine through even stronger. The fact heisn’t perfect, but deeply flawed and learning to address his shortcomings in nowmore productive ways. This progression and growth makes him interesting, and combinedwith the many other traits I’ve mentioned above, favored and loved bymany. Although ultimately I can’t change your opinion about him (that’s stillup to you to decide, and it’s ok to still dislike characters), hopefully I’veintroduced new ways of perceiving and appreciating his character for you. Tohelp see some of the positives that Deku always valued in him as a drivingsource of inspiration too: to strive hard despite life’s setbacks, and win. ‘He may be a jerk, but he’s amazing.’
#pomrania#replies#bnha#kacchan#meta#manga spoilers#long post#speaking from the perspective of him as my fav#hopefully this sheds some new light#(and i think i covered everything i wanted to say)#this is also why i mentioned before that the message of mp100’s mogami arc is important#and what i mean when i say minori’s ‘imcomparable levels of cruelty’#because kacchan is definitely not that#but the ability to change; grow; and forgive even the worst of who people used to be#is multitudes more valuable; stronger; and daresay heroic#than regressing into a hateful vestige of a non-functioning human like mogami#that kind of message still rings true here#the fact deku still cares despite seeing the worst from him is testament to how genuine his feelings are for him too#so instead of focusing on the worst...here i explain those cherished positives too

Hello again my dear friend. Your very own SSS is back with questions regarding your gift(s). I was actually wondering how you feel about au's fics. Do you like them? And if yes, do you have a favorite one? And after that please tell me your favorite hc about all of the ships you love and you have included in your ship list. I would like to know more about them and how you see them all.
Oh, I love AUs! I love the what if stories that explore a canon divergence or a similar but different path due to some one change (although I don’t like swap fic like swap lock with Molly as the consulting detective, just no.). I also love the AR like Potter’verse for Sherlolly, Victorian, Pirate, Medieval, Regency etc. I love AUs they allow to explore the characters in a new way. It’s also tricky to keep them in character but some leeway is always allowed ;) I love arranged marriage and marriage of convenience trope a lot.
Oh, my, hc for my beloved ships, well I think I listed a lot of them XD ok, here it goes: (I think it’s more view/feelings bout them than hc per se, sorry!)
MCU:
Pepper/Tony - I think it’s all about her quiet but unmovable support of him and yet the ability to call his bullshit. (sounds familiar, doesn’t it? I have a type I suppose). And once he realises what he has he’ll do everything to protect her. That scene in Iron Man 2, when instead of taking to armour onto himself he puts it on her… Yes, those two are just perfect. As for hc, I like to think that Pepper was already pregnant at the end of Avengers 3, so when Tony returns (and I don’t accept any other option, Marvel, you hear, they deserve a happy ending!), There’s going to be small little being (I’m leaning toward a daughter) around Pepper’s legs to greet him as well. :)
Peter/MJ - Oh, this is my OTP since my childhood as I’ve always loved Spider-Man. I love the new dynamics in MCU, and I cannot wait to see their romance. My fav part is that she’s eventually aware of his true identity and supports him (see, a type, I tell you). In the animated version from the mid 90s their story was quite a tragic one and I think I liked it a lot too.
Gamora/Peter aka Starlord - Oh my, they are two hurt by harsh life, wary people, especially Gamora, and their romance was such a sublime precious thing. Not overtly done but there. And how he managed to win her over, how reluctant she was but he persisted first with steadfast friendship then something more (once again sounds familiar, doesn’t it?). I cried like a baby while watching Avengers 3, both times. I also cry at the Guardians Movies (yes, the movies, both of them, because they are about friendship and family above all else). Guardians are my top favourite movies of the whole franchise, duh,
Steve/Natasha - Here it’s a little tricky because I’m a little multishipper for those two. Steve/Peggy was a tragic romance that pulled at my heartstrings, but I really wouldn’t want it to be revisited, tbh, I liked how star-crossed they were. I definitely do NOT ship Steve with Peggy’s niece (was it?), nope, no feelings about them whatsoever. But, Natasha… Now, Winter Soldier, and ever since… There is such a potential for those two. They work so well together. Yes… And once again it’s about her quiet but efficient support of him. Burce/Natasha didn’t do anything for me, sorry. But I was intrigued byt Natasha/Clint and kinda shipped them until we learnt about Clint’s family. I love that he had a family.
Harry Potter
Harry/Hermione - God, this ship. This is my OTP. Only Sherlolly rivals it as my OTP. Atm, Sherlolly is top one, but Harmione is close by and I still revisit the fandom just for the two of them. I love that they are such a close friends. The trust between them in unmovable, unshakable; she follows him and supports him, but isn’t afraid to call his bullshit, he encourages her and is there for her, he was the first one to see her as someone with feelings (it for sure wasn’t Ron no matter how much I love the redhead). He taught her to see past books and cleverness, he taught her about friendship and love. And she was onle of the very few and probably the very first one who saw him just as Harry (it took time for Ron and way too long for Ginny, to lose the fangirl/fanboy attitude). I love how complementary they are. For me they are perfect. I like to hc they have always been in love with each other just didn’t realise it at first. I like to imagine that post war, instead of the epilogue, all the characters managed to truly find themselves which led to a more suited pairings (for me the series ends before the epilogue obviously ;)
Ron/Luna - I have a major issue with Ron and Hermione and it’s how he treats her. I’m sorry but he always belittles her and she does the same to him! But for me, Luna has a lot of Hermione’s traits (inteligence for once), but never bellitled Ron, but always supported him. Hermione does it too, of course, and yet Luna’s support seems more like a fuel for Ron to reach his potential. Hermione will always be better than Ron and for Ron who always craved greatness it’s a huge thing to overcome. But Luna seems to follow her dreams yet support Ron in his. That’s how I have always seen them. That’s what is my hc.
Neville/Ginny - I definitely prefer this pairing for Ginny. It’s mostly because once again I felt that Ginny’s support could have helped Neville become the man he could be (thankfully he managed it without her, but before book 7, I always felt she could be the key for Neville and it stayed with me), I always felt that his quiet nature and less flamboyant self would be a lot more calming for her fiery temperament than Harry ever could…
Draco/Ginny - Here I am for the fiery combination of the two XD I also like a redeemed Draco theme. And sometimes ship him in a onesided Dramone too. I also like their kinda Romeo/Juliet situation.
Lucius/Narcissa - that ship took me by surprise, tbh! I’ve read a couple of fabulous Harmione fics with them, and two of the greatest broke them apart making them more an arranged polite pairing than anything else and I realised I actually ship them as in love. I don’t know why, I just like the idea of them, even being on the wrong side of the light, to still being able to experience love. In the end it was that love that redeemed them. Sometimes I like to hc they fell in love after they were arranged.
Remus/Tonks - the way she fought for him, and in the end their true love won. Even if for a short while before being cut of tragically. I like that they are actually quite an unusual pair and because of their age difference too. Sometimes I like to hc that if they survived they’d struggle as a married couple but overcome all the obstacles and learn how to be truly happy together
Bones
Booth/Brennan - this is another major OTP for me. I love their friendship, mutual, trust, support, their ability to compromise and being opened to the other and their life/word view. Their love story was the greatest feature of the whole show. It was so nice to see them reach a happy ever after and live through it. I love how they both grown as characters thanks to this wonderful relationship they shared over the years. And how faithful, how loyal to each other they have always been.
Angela/Hodgins - this is another story of true love can prevail everything. God, she was such a free spirirt, it looked like he didn’t stand a chance, but his persistence, his love for her, his support as she were with someone else after their break-up, and then their happiness. God, I love them so much. And I want a Hodgins of my own ;)
Sweets/Daisy - they were so cute as a silly version of Booth/Brennan. They also learned a lot about themselves and each other during their relationship. They grew both as characters and as a couple. And I really liked it.
How To Train Your Dragon
Hiccup/Astrid - first of all they are friends. And based on that, they support each other, trust each other, back up each other, but also talk and point out flaws. I like to hc they’d have always ended up together.
Ruffnut/Fishlegs - this one is a tricky one as it’s only fanon based. But I like the idea of Ruff, who is a wild spirit, and Fishlegs who is the scholary type, to find some kind of connection and appreciation. It’s a little similar to Neville/Ginny I suppose. I really love them, and how they could truly balance each other.
Anne with an E
Gilbert/Anne - oh, I have always shipped them, but in this version it’s all about his devotion. He’s so completely in love with her. They also try to be friends and support each other and be there for each other and I think that’s wonderful.
BBC Sherlock:
Sherlolly - oh, my. I think the thing about them for me is their mutual trust and a certain tender approach toward each other. I think that Molly is the only one who truly sees Sherlock as a man and not the Sherlock Holmes and it’s something that’s very attractive to Sherlock, very addictive and that’s why he can be himself with her, and show his vulnerability. There is also a lot of respect between them in their quiet companionship. I also like that they are kinda hidden from everyone else. Only the audience truly knows what really goes between them and that’s very precious to them. I like how they support each other. They work together, they trust each other even if they don’t like what they see. But they work together.
Warstan - Mary is just perfect match for John. They work so well together. I hate that John almost threw it all away. It shows he’s human but it was a very painful plot. I like to hc, that Mary would have eventually forgiven him, but he would have to really work to get her trust back. I will also dare to say, that maybe there were some huge issues on both sides to work through and John’s wayward thoughts toward E were a result of that. Don’t get me wrong, he was the one who did an awful thing. But maybe Mary wasn’t such a saint either, after all she left him and Rosie without a second thought (to protect them sure), but she wasn’t willing to work with John. Maybe she subconsciously pushed him away? Maybe she was afraid of his reaction based on how badly he took the news about her past? It doesn’t change the fact that both were at fault and didn’t have enough time to work through their issues. They were faulty real people and that’s what I love about them. I wish I could see more of them and their fight for their happiness.
Mythea - Once again an example of a ship with a woman supporting a man. I like to think he is very protective of her but also kinda shy about his feelings. I don’t know, I see him also viewing himself as unworthy of her affections. While she is kinda helplessly in love with him. In the end they take their heads of their arses and have their happily ever after. I like to hc that Anthea’s been moved away from Mycroft to protect her and maybe because they did start a relationship and she was on maternity leave so that’s why we didn’t see her in s4 ;)
So, I hope you don’t mind me being talkative about my ships XD
Do you share some of mine? Do you have complete deferent views on the characters? Feel free to tell me :)

Tagged Shipping Meme
answer the following for your muse so people know how shipping works on your blog.
WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER?:
There’s not really an OTP due to Tomoyuki’s / Seryu’s story, as he basically....prioritizes his duties too much to the point where he doesn’t even notice love aaaa...but maybe this will change in the future!
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO WRITE WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?:
Tbh, anything? But asides from the usual fluff, smut, angst, I dearly love star-crossed lovers themes as well as intense hateships.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE
For Tomoyuki’s case, normal legal laws apply, but for Seryu, since he’s pretty old, anyone around his age range would do well I think! Just no minors.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?:
Mainly with chemistry, yes! Even more so with Tomoyuki, due to his personality / temperament / etc. He’s somewhat of a firm believer of those ‘true-love’ kind of things, sigh....
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?:
When the clothes are off, yes.
WHO ARE THE CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?:
None yet!
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?:
^^^^^^ all the yes! And truly, if you wish to ask, high chance that we’ll launch into a great discussion about it!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP?:
[buries face in hands]
ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE - OR - LESS?:
Middle ground!
ARE YOU MULTISHIP?:
For the time being.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?:
nein fandom gomen
FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?:
Thread a little, and just BOMB MY IMS WITH IDEAS AT 3 IN THE MORNING

SHIPPING INFO !!
WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER?: Staying in canon I can really get behind Keira/Lambert, they work well together, very similar in temperament so yeah, I’m all for it! Love the idea of a sorceress out of all people is the one who finally tames his heart.
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO WRITE WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?: Likely most things tbh, we can get down and angsty, it’s not difficult with this ass hat, although i enjoy the blissful moments of fluff and tbh even with smut i’m cool with. i think sexuality is equally part of a relationship and the inner dynamic. Ask me tbh, and if it’s not too out there, i’ll probably write it.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?: It’s tricky when it comes to rp-ing a character who looks a certain age but is close to 100... personally, i think as long as two people have a good dynamic and both people are of legal age, we can talk about it.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?: I suppose I am, I’m very much chemistry driven so if I don’t really feel it, I won’t ship it. Besides, it’s not that easy to get along with Lambert so that in itself is a screening process.
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NS/FW?: When hands wander to naughty areas even when clothed I guess it starts to go that way. Once there is a clear intent in action that this will be more than just making out.
WHO ARE OTHER THE CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?: Romantically, Lambert’s wife in modern verse is @tragedyveined, in Marvel verse it looks like they are getting into shippy territory with @helenaiism, in Witcher verse @apocryphorum‘s Orion has his heart. I adore our super extreme slow burn with @ghoulishundertakings! There is also @honnleathrose, our ship that’s mostly present on discord. There is also that... idek, started out crack but i have no idea what’s going on, @winebleeds‘ brother. As for strong brotp, @tcughguy‘s Tim is Lambert’s bromate and one day they will open a bar!
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?: Kind of? I like to have some thought behind ships, so it’s totally fine if they naturally just start flirting and then if we feel there is potential, I think it’s cool if you let me know you might want them to have something. I don’t like to plan ships, I prefer to let them develop naturally but it’s also cool to have that confirmed knowledge that we’re both aware what’s going on.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP?: Shipping is nice, I’m not sure how to interpret ‘often’, it’s not trains that i have to have a new one every month, i’m actually very loyal to my ships and i love them all even if i might be silent. But I do love to talk about them and plot and headcanon and all of that.
ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?: I wouldn’t think I’m ship obsessed. I’m not into the idea of shipping itself, but I rather get ‘obsessed’ with a good dynamic. Then I make a pinterest board, make aesthetics and annoy you about them often when I have time to talk I like to dedicate time to our ship.
ARE YOU MULTISHIP?: Indeed I am.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?: Considering Lambert belongs to the Witcher fandom, once again I’d have to say Keira/Lambert.
FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?: Talk to me. That’s really the base of it all, if our muses have chemistry and us muns have a good chemistry as well, then sure, let’s do it!

BUT BAKUGOU IS THE ONLY ONE I LIKE
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. read at your own risk.
i don’t dislike dislike bakugou. i don’t “love him oh my beautiful son he’s so good he’s so pure he’s not a jerk he’s just misunderstood” like most of the fandom does. i won’t glorify bakugou nor i will put him down. here we go:
(please, do not come at me and hate me for what you’re going to read. this is my opinion)
i read about people hating him because he reminds them of sasuke from naruto (please, non, tell me you did not make the same comparison). sasuke has a more deep reason for being a jerk. yes, he was awful, i wished throughout the entire naruto series for naruto to just give up on him, but let’s at least recognize that sasuke had a reason for behaving that way.
why do i don’t like the way bakugou is written?
uhm. let’s start from the very beginning, okay?
but first of all let’s answer to one of your other questions - i won’t be posting them all, anon, they’re kind of a lot. you write an awful amount of questions which i appreciate, but forgive me for answering/trying to answer to all of them in just one long answer. so, is bakugou more a villain than a hero?
if you’re a manga reader you’ve probably already read past the training camp arch, but if you’re an anime only reader - SPOILERS. bakugou is one of your shonen characters - he’s more of an “anti-hero”. (anti-hero: a certain character in a story or movie or whatever who lacks conventional heroic attributes). he’s not a villain. absolutely not. right after the One for All vs the All for One arch, the teachers go to every single student’s house to ask their families if they will still allow their sons/daughters to attend the school even after all the things that happened. bakugou’s mom accepts without batting an eye, thankful because she could hear - during the conference the teacher had before saving the kidnapped bakugou, damn too many spoilers - that teachers understood bakugou’s uhm personality?
bakugou is not bad - the manga clearly says that people who look up to All Might cannot be bad. everyone who despises All Might is bad. the series is very straightforward in this. bakugou’s awful personality - according to the manga - is the result of being overpraised when he was young. people around him - teachers, peers, everyone who came to know him - recognized his immense power. they all treated him like he was going to be a big deal, and young bakugou swam in those praises, he believed in all those words. bakugou’s universe sized ego came from being held up on a pedestal from a very young age. bakugou’s grown up thinking of becoming not A hero, but THE hero. he’s not going to be All Might, the #1 hero, the symbol of peace. bakugou looked up at All Might, but grew up wanting to be even stronger than him. better of the best. sounds extra cool, right?
but with that kind of attitude comes bakugou’s distaste towards people like his childhood friend izuki midoriya. if bakugou had great potential, had everything that needed to be the new number one, then izuku, poor, little, izuki was nothing. he had literally nothing - he looked plain, was frail, and more importantly, was Quirkless. he’s the weakest. he’s that hopeless kid who could just dream of becoming a hero, but he will never be one. bakugou hated how optimistic this guy could be, how hardworking he was, despite being born with an handicap. now, imagine yourself being bakugou - that kid everyone knows is going to accomplish great things because his quirk is just too good - being taken by a monster (chapter 1), failing at saving yourself, and actually seeing izuku - deku, the useless - reach out his hand to you to save you. bakugou just…snapped at that. and the world he believed in, his own beliefs started to crumble after that moment - deku was not the same deku anymore. deku came to his same school, deku was NOT quirkless, todoroki - the kid in class who’s born being genetically better than him - declared to be deku’s rival, people wanted to be deku’s rival, All Might chose deku. then, todoroki did not fight him with everything he had, he underestimated him. everyone underestimated him. he, who used to look down at others, now is the one who’s looked down and needs to be saved.
i repeat: bakugou is not a villain. he’s not this soft boy fans want you to believe he is, absolutely not. please, everyone stop depicting him as some kind of fragile boy who self-combusts out of embarrassment, this kid would canon bomb you if you could hear you. he’s full of pride, single-minded, close-minded, he loses his temperament really easily, he doesn’t take shit from anyone, he’s an obnoxious kid who always shouts. he has no fucking chill. he was not written to be a very likable character, but he does have redeeming qualities. bakugou is more than good, his quirk is amazing, but still trains as hard as he can. he does not simply rely on “i was born good yeeeah gonna sit my ass here all day” nope. this kid pushes himself to exceed his limits. he’s smart - you would think not, eh, but he is. he tutored kirishima lol not sexist at all. bakugou recognizes powerful people and i really appreciated him not going easy on uraraka - BEST GIRL I LOVE YOU SO MUCH URARAKA - just because she’s a girl. also, he has a character development, but it’s kind of subtle (i say kind of because it was clear as water to me, but some say that he’s not changed at all). when midoriya charged to help him when he was about to get kidnapped, bakugou warned him to step back so he would not get kidnapped himself. and finally, bakugou knows when he’s not done enough. he feels guilty for what happens to All Might: if he was strong enough, All Might would still be the symbol of Peace.
so, last question: why do you not like bakugou?
because even though he’s a complex character who has one of the qualities to become the best hero (the other two/thre-ish are without any doubt midoriya and todoroki + even lida), even though he’s realizing that he still has a lot before he can claim to be THE hero, i can’t get past him being so obnoxious. he literally spent his childhood tormenting midoriya. he told midoriya to kill himself because he was a deku (and that was what triggered me the most. katsuki bakugou you’re DELETED from becoming a favorite character). his classmates had to ask the teacher (i believe it was All Might) to stop a training exercise because bakugou was being too violent, too dangerous. they had to send him to sleep after his match with todoroki because he just couldn’t accept that todoroki did not use his flames on him. he’s slowly and sublty becoming better, but, nah, thanks, not really my cup of tea.
