1) Is John misunderstood or a villain?

False dichotomy here. I think John is well understood by many fans in that he was a traumatized man and absent father who indoctrinated his sons into a brutal and violent lifestyle (raised them to be soldiers). Like Henrikksen was pretty spot on when he called him a cult leader. The demons just happened to be real.

It's disgusting to me how much John actively avoided his sons during season 1. They didn't even know vampires were still around! (???) John would just drop a pin at a location and send them on goose chases and maybe grace them with his presence if he needed them or they literally tracked him down. Despicable parent behavior.

I don't think this makes him a "villain" though. He's not actively antagonizing the boys (other than giving them soooooo much trauma that they aren't gonna work through). Arguably the most villainous he is is when he tells Dean he's gonna have to kill Sam, and then he dies.

So I don't know. I think he's a shitty dad who fucked them over at every opportunity, but in my head there's nuance between that and villain.

13) Leather jacket or Mary’s ring?

I'm definitely forgetting or missed the lore about Mary's ring, I'm assuming its one of the rings Dean used to wear before Jensen decided no he wouldn't. Or maybe it's from s12? Either way it didn't leave an impact on me (feel free to send me meta to change my mind 👀)

If I have to choose based on symbolism, leather jacket. The leather jacket is such a strong visual signifier of John's impact on Dean's life (your car is his your clothes are his even your music is his etc) AND the fact that he sheds it after a while demonstrates his growth away from being John's shadow. (I know they lost it but still it works for me in canon)

A ring just doesn't have that same (hah) ring to it, especially in a live action show where we don't get that many lingering shots of hands, or insight into how Mary affected Dean.

However. If Sam was wearing Mary's ring... That's something I could get into. Something about Sam latching onto a piece of the mother he never knew, wearing it every day (maybe on a chain so he could hide it under his shirt). Sam wearing the ring when he meets Ruby, wearing it on his hand after Dean goes to hell and staring at it when he exorcises demons (he's doing it for Her but really he's doing it for himself, just like John)

Agh I'm driving myself crazy with this idea actually, maybe the ring if Sam gets to wear it

18) When did Supernatural start declining in quality? (If it did?)

I'm currently rewatching it so it's fresh in my mind. I've always said 4 and 5 are my favorite seasons but rewatching really cemented that for me. Supernatural is a show that varies in quality season by season, and after a certain point it varies drastically episode by episode. Seasons 1 and 2 are really fucking solid, but season 3 sucks a lot in a lot of ways due to the writer's strike. Then 4 and 5 come in and pick up the pieces pretty effectively.

I think if you're looking for a cohesive show with an ending that makes sense and narrative themes that work, you stop at the end of season 5. Season 6 is a huge dip in quality for me. The first half of the season is so fucking boring and confusing, and by the time it gets it's act together it's time for the finale. But that also makes it similar to season 3, just if season 3 had time to redeem itself.

But I love season 7. I love the new characters and the leviathan and the weird 2011 liberal sensibilities. Season 8 is straight up a vampire diaries soap opera.

Visually the quality declines drastically after season 5. Seasons 4 and 5 use a lot of interesting framing and visual symbolism which stood out compared to the rest of the show, and a lot of that is absent post season 5. A few episodes try to recapture it but the direction becomes pretty generic. The color grading too suffers a lot. There have been so many meta posts about it but truly why does the show get so bright and colorful. I'm not supposed to be able to distinguish dark green from black.

Character writing also suffers post s5. They put the boys through the same wringer over and over and Dean gets angrier and Sam gets quieter and that's it. Not that there aren't good lines or arcs, it's just that compared to the content of the first 5 seasons it's worse.

Notable exceptions, like I said I like season 7. I also think 11 and 12 are good. Season 15 is fucking crazy and evil but it also has like. A plot. Like it's doing season 5 again but at least it knows where it's going.

Ok, some Winchesters theories coming up! So, we remember that the trailer for The Winchesters has a literal video of Cas' shadow in it. And in the latest Winchesters' episode we see this image from a previous episode of Supernatural. SO this could be a couple things... (1) The CW has limited resources and money and is lazy so they reuse videos and images (2) we are meant to find them and they mean something for the end of the show. I choose to believe the 2nd since I have put my clown shoes back on. So, running theory is; time travel is obviously happening again, angels are involved (hence the Cas video and literal Gabriel in the latest Winchesters episode). BUT WHYYYYYY Like, we know that Dean is telling us the story of his parents meeting. We can assume that this is him telling us post finale given the car having OG plates and the samulet hanging. Dean is not wearing his finale or heaven outfit though (good discourse on that here). So, we can assume this means something as well; he wears this outfit in 15x8 and 15x9 (The Trap - episodes that have Dean and Cas working through the some couply shit and traveling to Purgatory - so other planes). Ok, so back to S1E8 of The Winchesters, we know that Dean gave John the letter that effectively changed history/the story. So, Dean had to have traveled back in time to do this, likely by help of angels, post finale.

But, again, WHY What is Dean (and the angels - but likely just Cas) trying to change? What's the motive? If we make the assumptions that this is happening post finale (with our other assumptions made above) and we believe Jensen when he says it will stay within cannon, we can assume that this is not, technically, a prequal, but a continuation of the original. But, to play Lucifer's advocate with myself, how does that storyline get a second season? Potential theories:

It turns out that something is wrong in heaven or Jack and Cas cant keep the heaven light on and if heaven goes out the world does so they have to go back in time to fix shit?

Or, baddies from other worlds (akrida) are causing havoc in the world when they have not (did not in SPN timeline/cannon) so now (post finale timeline) they have to go back and fix it by Dean giving John the letter. And Sam is not involved because he is not in heaven yet and can go back to help out?

-- OR -- If we go with the evidence and the lazy version of typical time travel (and CW) story telling, we will assume that Dean, in heaven (or not) , is telling us the true story of how his parents met which was this exact story that is happening in The Winchesters. Like, Dean has traveled back in time before. That photo that Mary and John look at in S1E8 is from SPN S6E9. Maybe, Dean traveled back in time around that time to maybe stop the whole SPN timeline from happening to try to save more people, and they got their minds wiped given the Akrida are other wordly crazy monsters etc etc. Thats why the story of John and Mary meeting in The Winchesters is so similar but a little different than the SPN timeline. Maybe thats why there is differing, kind of, stories of thier meeting. And, you could plot right over that by saying, to make the appocolypse happen they wiped the minds, and made them fall in love (like SPN cannon).

But this does not explain the Cas barn scene in the trailer or why Dean is wearing a different outfit in the narration scene in S1E1. But, Lucifers Advocate, this can be explained away by them using the Cas scene to bait us and Jensen just liking that outfit lol. BUT Daneel is #1 heller and the twitter accounts like all the destiel stuff so, at least, they know that is marketable, SOOOOOO it has to happen, it just has to! ------ If you have made it this far, congratulations, you have officially fit into the clown car with me. I will live here, with my clown shoes on, and believe Cas is coming back to us, that him and Dean are having fun, gay, adventures in heaven

Day 16 On the Head of a Pin

Yay!!!! Honest to God Destiel content!!! Still more Cas sided than Dean but it’s early.

Okie dokie. There’s a lot in this episode that I love. Soooooo let’s get started!!!

I just have to say that I love this shot of the first angel death we see. The first time I saw that I thought it was such a cool effect. I think the way they decided to portray angel wings on this show was one of the really good decisions that were made

Yay, Destiel!!! Of course the classic line here. Cas’s superiors saw he was starting to have feelings for Dean and KNEW this would lead to doubt and disobedience.

I also love Dean’s reaction here. Just like Dean to take a minute to really let the words sink in. And I love Jensen and all his micro expressions in this episode ah! I really don’t think Dean thought Cas was expressing romantic feelings here cuz as we’ve already established Dean wasn’t sure that angels could even feel romantic love. I’m also not even sure if Cas knows what he’s feeling but it’s definitely love for Dean lol

I also love this little exchange right here. It just shows how much Cas has really come to care for Dean. He knows what he did in Hell and he knows what asking him to do this would mean. He DOESNT want to do that to him but he thinks he has no choice. And you can see that with every sound Alastair makes, Cas is being tortured as well knowing that Dean is sinking back into the hole he clawed his way out of.

And bravo Jensen for your acting skills!!!! The tears welling, the hint of a snarl, the gulp.... just like everything else he does in this episode, it’s just superb.

This is why I think Cas doesn’t even know what he’s feeling. He just knows that he doesn’t want Dean to hurt, he doesn’t know what to think about his purpose, and he’s starting to doubt God/his superiors. Misha also has A+ acting skills, bravo to the husbands

Okay... this right here. I could watch these two gifs ALL. DAY. I love Jensen so fucking much. In the first gif you can just SEE THE FUCKING PANIC. He’s learning for the first time that he broke the first seal; the seal that HAD to break before any others could be broken. He’s learning that HE ALONE jump started the apocalypse. And to top it all off, he’s also just learned that his dear old daddy was supposed to do it but he never gave in ouch but also fuck John Winchester

Okay, side note regarding this part. When things like this are said in the series about God and God’s plan it just makes me so angry thinking about how God ends up being a dick. And I feel like we never really explored the impact that had on Cas. Maybe I’m just not remembering a key moment or something cuz let’s me honest it’s been a WHILE since I’ve seen all these episodes but I just feel like we kinda missed that opportunity?

Omg and then this...... poor fucking Dean. I can’t. There’s so much self-hatred in this man. And every time I see Dean hating himself and hurting and suffering, I get pissed and bitter about the fucking finale all over again. DEAN DESERVED A SOFT ENDING!!!!

Hello hello, there! I've been wanting to do this for quite a while but ever since I turned 21 life's been going INSANE for me and it seems like I never get a break to come by and say what I wanna say, but here I am now! So brace yourself because I'm going to say everything I wanted to during these last months but never had time to do so! I've always been a kid that was obsessed with books and reading but I never was the fanfiction type of person, it seemed like every time I tried to read one it would just made me upset because it just felt like the characters were always SO OOC and the storylines always seemed to be the same with the same annoying stereotyped readers that bottered me so much (perhaps I was just dumb and didn't knew yet how to actually look for stories and always ended up giving up before founding the ones that were for me), so it was never "my thing". I've been a Supernatural fan ever since I was 12, and a few months ago I was just missing Dean SO BAD and I desperately needed some distraction from my current life, so I decided to give fanfiction a try again (best decision I've ever made). I was feeling in a very specific mood (don't even ask why, my mind sometimes just get in very weird maladaptive daydreaming moods that I CANNOT explain) I felt like reading something linda "soldier" like, and that's how I've found Home To You. OH.MY.FUCKING.GOD. WHAT WAS THAT? NO, LIKE REALLY? I've read it SO GODDAMN FAST and ALL AT ONCE because once I started I just COULDN'T STOP IT! Everything pulled me in the story so much, the characters, the plot, the fantastic job you did with the reader, the goddamn long ass slow burn (and I mean that in the nicest way possible because I LOVE ME some slow burn). Do I even need to say that after finishing this one I absolutely binged every single one of your works? BECAUSE I DID (and now I regret it because I'm ADDICTED to your stories but I've read everything already 😭😭). Your writing it's so captivating and entertaining! I'm not exaggerating when I say that I'm IN LOVE with your stories and I just HAD to come here to let you know how absolutely fantastic you and your fanfics are! My guess... He misses Jensen like soooooo much. And quarantine is not helping. Jensen just went through a terrible ordeal because of Jared and Misha has been doing everything he can to divert the fandom towards himself.

Why Buddie *isn’t* Destiel:

Let’s start with the stuff working against Buddie. Then move on to the things I believe give Buddie a much better shot at becoming canon than Destiel ever did. It’s a tad bit long:

So. Yes. The two ships do have a a lot in common. And yes, Buddie is a longshot for a lot of the same reasons Destiel was. 

Bi men aren’t really a thing on tv (especially not NETWORK tv), Dean and Buck were both introduced as huuuuuuuuuge fans of banging women with never a single unambiguous mention of them ever having dated or even being attracted to men. Only little wink/nudge moments played off as humor (”so does this boy-crush on Eddie mean . . .”) , or the characters giving each other “heart eyes,” a thing which can easily seen as a silent expression of deep fondness/admiration/trust/platonic love, whatever. None of the characters “seem bisexual” ie, they don’t conform to your typical network tv depictions or stereotypes of non-straight men. 

They all have “masculine” jobs (as opposed to something either soft and mellow, or flamboyant and performative). The real “guy guy” type characters are generally meant to be seen as 1000% straight. This applies less to Cas than the other 3 men as he’s technically not human, but he does present as male, and even though he did end the series with a big ‘I love you’ moment to Dean, the line didn’t address how he loved Dean. And since Cas didn’t say ‘I’m in love with you,’ nor did Dean say it back, as far as series canon goes Destiel was never explicitly Romantic Love. You could interpret it that way extremely easily, but it was never overt series canon. 

They’re both hugely popular non-canon fandom ships (and in buddie’s case, growing in fandom popularity every day).

The creators and cast have made comments acknowledging said popularity  with vague comments like “it’s a really special dynamic,” “we’re glad the audience can interpret blahblahblah,” “the fanart is soooooo great,” or “we love the enthusiasm.” That kind of wishy washy shit. Sure, some of the actors will make overtly pro-ship comments, but they always (and for good reason) clarify that the writers/producers haven’t told them anything either way.

OKAY. SO. On to what makes Buddie different from Destiel. (and why I’m optimistic)

Number one is timing. As in: how many years have we had with a character being played a certain way? By the time Cas appeared in SPN, they were 4 seasons in, and Dean had been portrayed as the typical “boobies, boobies, all the boobies; I will immediately hit on any and all hot women,” etc. Yes, Buck began 911 as basically that exact same guy--but ‘that guy’ only lasted a single season. Eddie shows up at the top of S2, so we haven’t already had multiple previous seasons of “Ladie’s Man” Buck. And that makes it easier to bend and adapt his character--or to reveal major character traits not previously mentioned.

Two: Cas was introduced in a way that didn’t evoke anything romantic or sexual at all. He was there on a mission from GOD. Utterly asexual insofar as his interactions with Dean (despite the insane sexual chemistry going on, in the show’s ‘maintext’ nothing about Cas’s character had anything to do with sex or romance) Meanwhile, when Eddie showed up on 911 literally the first thing said about him was Chim’s line “Now that is a beautiful man,” a comment followed by “Whatta Man” playing while Eddie put on his shirt. In slow motion. While Buck kinda . . . stared? So in stark contrast to Cas’s first moments on SPN, Eddie’s 911 intro was. . . . well, let’s see . . . the soundtrack is a blatantly sexual song . . . slo-mo shirtlessness . . . Chim’s “beautiful man” comment . . . all of those things present Eddie in an overtly sexual context right away.

Three: With Destiel, despite their intense screen chemistry, Cas and Dean took the better part of a season to really really bond. Whereas Buddie were joined-at-the-hip besties by the end of Eddie’s 1st episode--when less than 30 episodes of the series had aired. Yes, the sexual chemistry between Cas and Dean may have been palpable from minute one, but the emotional bond between Buck and Eddie happened almost right away. Much faster than with Destiel. And they became involved in one another’s personal lives a lot faster, too. 

Four: On 911 neither Buck nor Eddie ever vanish for many episodes at a time, whereas Cas’s character on SPN dipped in and out. He might be there for several episodes in a row . . . or he might only show up a few times in whole season. So by default Buck and Eddie have more screentime together to continue fleshing out that bond. Establishing the Buckley-Diaz family. 

Five: On SPN, introducing long term love interests for either brother would have busted up the central dynamic driving the show. Much as I used to love Destiel, for five entire seasons Sam and Dean were the central, laser-focused relationship in the show. Sure it may have been a co-dependent and often unhealthy bond, but it was the foundation on which the entire series was built. That’s a really tough dynamic to wedge a love interest into without upsetting the whole balance of the show. Cut to 911: no single character or relationship is the “laser focus” of the whole series. Every character in the ensemble has their own storyline. And thus far, no two characters are toxically codependent on one another. They’re all fleshed out as independent entities. 

Six: (related to point five) If either of the actors playing Buck or Eddie landed a huge movie roll, or asked to be written out for personal reasons, or fucked up so bad they had to be fired? It wouldn’t torch the entire show. Bobby, Athena, Hen, Maddie (even Buck or Eddie if only one of them was written out) . . . the show would go on without Buddie. Or without any one character. Whereas if either Jensen or Jared had decided to quit SPN at any point? Well shit, there goes the show! Finished. Donezo. 

In conclusion: with 911 not being totally dependent on any one character dynamic for the show’s survival, it puts them in a far better position to gamble, ratings-wise, on something that might not be a hit with the general audience. (I know it sucks, but 'popular on social media’ doesn’t automatically translate to ‘popular with casual viewers’). If 911 did take that leap with Buck and Eddie and it flopped? The Buckley-Diaz family moves to an island paradise somewhere and the show moves on with their strong (and also popular) remaining ensemble cast. For the average casual viewer, nothing in 911 would blow up beyond repair without Buddie. 

So I feel like our ship has a much better shot of becoming canon. There is good reason to be optimistic. Especially if the ship’s fanbase continues to grow, and grow, and grow, and we remain visible and vocal.

So, thing is.... I have not watched the episode. I just was spoilered on the explore page on youtube when looking up news and there it was. Thank you so much algorithm for ruining the only episode in 4 years that I actually would have liked to watch unspoilered. That’s off the table now of course…. That said. I will watch it later in full. So take all of this with a shitton of salt, because my opinion is basically based only on Dean’s death scene and Sam’s life montage and the ending in Heaven of them meeting again without any in between so I might miss some vital infos – and yeah maybe I should have waited to post after I have seen the full episode first, then again, it doesn’t really matter, my opinion doesn’t matter, as I have not been involved with fandom or tumblr in ages, but maybe my impression can help someone somewhere to feel a bit better about this ending.

So, with that said. And I guess this will be a surprise to most people, these little ten minutes of episode to me delivered more emotion – though the hair and make up on Jared as Aging!Sam was just awful lol so I am ignoring all that – than all of the past 4 years combined.

Is the ending dissatisfying? I can see how people think that. I have to say, I look at it more objectively since I am not involved in fandom etc. anymore. But imo and I really would not have ever expected to say that about an episode written by Dabb. Imo this ending does make sense. I see a lot of posts going around saying that this ending doesn’t make sense, because of the season long arc of the death of the author and fight for free will and that it is the badly written ending Chuck would have penned. And I kind of think no, it isn’t. It’s just that many people treated the past seasons or watched them with rose coloured glasses.

I have expressed in a single post last week why I have issues with Dabb’s era and people’s appraisal of him, because they excused all the bad writing with that only having been „Chuck’s bad writing“ and therefore Dabb and Co were so extremely clever and amazing and soooooo meta. Which yeah, no Dabb was no genius and neither was a Berens. It was objectively bad and lazy writing. This ending however imo actually makes sense – and people only hate it because they did not get what they wanted. Did I get what I wanted from this ending? Not by a long shot – for one: Dean would have deserved more. Much could have been done better, but from the quality or rather extreme lack thereof since Dabb took over, this ending is more than I ever would have expected possible.

So let me get into the meat of it and why I think that way. I can see why it is frustrating to accept this ending, because it feels like all of what they went through was for nothing, because it was never „truly them“ - and I guess that was Jensen’s biggest issue with that ending – and that Dean dies so quickly after just having been free(d). You see, if you operate with the death of the author and celebrating that fact, because it means true free will for the Winchesters then this ending simply – as dissatisfying as it may feel for the character who just achieved freedom – is a fitting one and indeed does not negate character development made (which arguably was influenced by Chuck and never real), but rather showcases it.

Dean dieing on a hunt, in a mundane fashion, due to a rusty nail many say is a disgrace, because it should have been an epic fighting scene or whatever. Why though? We had that countless times. We know Dean is a skilled fighter. He did many Big bads in. Why would it need one more for the final episode? Especially when considering all those times before Chuck has been pulling the strings (this is much more why I think they never should have introduced God in that way and go this route, because that in fact destroys all of the past – which again is why I think Jensen struggled with the ending). Again, I understand people’s discomfort, but I actually think Dean dieing on a hunt, in a mundane fashion, due to a rusty nail is a „good“ (as good as it can get with Dabb & Co) ending. Why? Because it all was entirely Dean. No Chuck. No big story. It was Dean. It was Dean writing his own story. Holding the pen. And That is all I ever wanted (would I have wanted it for him to be able to do it longer, hell yes, but even getting Dean’s joy of being free just for one day imo is worth it and worth more than a lifetime as a puppet for a cruel God). Dean died while doing what he believed in, what he loved doing, with his brother by his side and them both on the same page and not butting heads, he was there out of his own free will, he was not supercharged by an special weapon and he was most of all not indestructable because he was a plaything of God. He died, because he was/is free. Because that is what happens when life happens. And life is tragic. That’s what this is. A tragic death. A tragic death of a wonderful human being. And that’s always what I loved dean for: his humanity and his flaws.

And I don’t see/read it as Dean only finding happiness or true free will in death, though I understand why you could read it that way, absolutely. But imo seeing it that way only cuts things short. Dean was able to let go, he was able to say goodbye to Sam (now his whole speech about him being weaker than Sam etc., that part was enraging and unnescessary, but for the sake of the much despised „bigger picture“ I will ignore it here, because that part I have big issues with). That means he did „overcome“ his „always be there for Sammy“ and giving himself up in the process of doing that (and again yes, that he was only to overcome this when dieing makes this part pretty problematic, very much so – but then again, I don’t expect well crafted story from Dabb, so…). Every single time before (when God was still in the picture) the Winchesters did something bad to undo „death“, etc. whether that was what they would have done if God was not in the picture is up for debate, but in any case here Sam and Dean met one another on eye level. Sam let Dean go and he lived with the grief (yeah, the irony of Dabb trying to replicate „Swan Song“ with roles reversed just in a spectacularly worse way is not lost on me, believe me), but he kept going, didn’t go to extremes to reverse it. He lived with it. Because that’s how life happens. Most of the time it’s not fair. And it’s not what we deserve. But we „carry on“. And we keep writing our story. However a tragic one it might be. But at least it’s ours. We are the paper. We are the pen. And not a bit of spilled ink in Death’s or God’s book. And I happen to think that is as good as it gets…

Alright, those are my two cents on an episode that I haven’t seen lol. I am sure once I see it, there will be a lot of things I will probably dislike about it, but just from the small but probably big bits of the episode, these are my two cents. Don’t get up in arms over it. I am not here to fight. Have never been. And I sure won’t start now that I probably will never log back into this account. :)

My ‘Dean is Bi’ Take

***Written before seeing the series finale/after seeing penultimate ep***

Dean did not know he was bi or open to experiencing sexual or romantic relationships with men, until Cas made him realize it. 

He didn’t know when Cas was speaking to him in 15x18. He was experiencing too many emotions and having trouble accepting not only the fact that Cas looked up to him, as a loving human being, but the possibility that it might actually be true. That he’s not this angry monster, he’s believed himself to be for how many years. 

He knows he loves Castiel. He doesn’t understand that over the past few years or more, that his love for him was romantic. The grabbing at his arms, touching him constantly, the comfort that he’d find in being physically close to Cas, were natural gestures, not pre-meditated. 

As I was growing up, I learned that same sex couples were allowed to happen. That I should be respectful and open-minded and kind and know it’s okay for THEM to behave that way and that THEY had the right to a romantic relationship with a partner of the same gender, like I had the right to a romantic relationship with someone of the opposite sex. This was not told to me straight up, but the “they” or “them” mode of explaining gay relationships to kid/teen version of me, led me to believe that my hope for romantic love was more in line with the leads of a television series. Heterosexual, and at the “craziest” bi-racial.  

This mentality has always made me feel tension around people of the opposite sex, or think of kissing or marriage or dating or couples. It wasn’t until I was older that I started to develop those same feelings when around people of the same gender. The percentage of attraction is not equal or 50/50 (for not just me?). I strongly prefer or find myself labeling someone as attractive or hot if they are opposite gender. 

But the list of celebrity crushes are all same-gendered, at the moment. Also, while I married someone of the opposite gender, I found myself dreaming (This is embarrassing, but I’m talking about sex-dreams or whatever) about not my partner. Like soooooo not my partner.). 

Obviously, I didn’t wake up and say “Babe, we need to get a divorce, so I can go experiment.” I mean, I did tell him about how I’d dream about having sex or making out with women, and then said “Um, just so you know, we’re gonna be together forever, but I think I find women attractive, as well as men.”  He was like “Cool.” His response was so casual, it threw me off. 

But I loved him for either knowing before I did, or accepting it immediately as the truth. Even after saying this to him, it took me awhile to accept who I was and what my sexual identity is. 

I’m still afraid to fully come out. I never post that “I’m proud to be Bi” under my real name, on Pride Day. I don’t have Bi colors mixed into my twitter username. I keep saying “Well, you’re married to a guy, and want to stay married to him. You’re not really bi. There’s no point in coming out. You’ve never been with a woman. You probably aren’t bi, because you’re just looking for attention and coming out as Bi is “in” right now.”

Dean could be straight, but could also be bi. I would accept either sexual identity when connecting with the character’s history on Supernatural. But personally, I saw a little bit of that enlightenment happen just after Castiel left with the Empty. 

On top of all this, Dean realizes that this is a permanent death, and it was likely (the finale hasn’t aired yet, and I’m pathetically hopeful for a reunion, Omigosh) that they would never see each other again. The afterlife for an angel is not the same afterlife for a human, even if the rules in the SPN universe change last minute and all who have been to Hell and back could still make it into heaven. He’s unable to fully focus on the fact that he’d have been open to a romantic or sexual relationship with Cas, after all that happened in Ep 18. After his self-hate speech, before Cas started into his closing monologue, on the show.

To end this rant, or speech or whatever, I saw Dean as Bi when Castiel touched him for the last time. I saw the disbelief and the confusion that I experienced myself, though I wasn’t under the gun exactly like Dean, when it hit me for the first time. 

So, I accept Dean as Bi. Whether he says so or not. Even if Jensen or Eric Kripke or Misha one day said “DEAN IS STRAIGHT!!!”, I can leave them alone and not bully them into agreeing with me, but still believe it to be true (in my version). Because for me, it lines up. 

I believe Dean is Bi. The same way I believe that I am.
