See, this is EXACTLY why I love AP Research so much. Just as you (dulcidyne) said, high school essays are about summarization or, if they're an analysis, it's about like one MAYBE two sources, and half the time there isn't any kind of works cited because, well, obviously this essay is citing Hamlet, that's what this assignment is on.
And then you have AP Research. You kind of ease into it with the prerequisite, AP Seminar, but even then, it's again pretty much just regurgitation of information. AP Research, on the other hand, is about ACTUAL research - delving into the literature of your field, finding what has been done and what hasn't, and ADDING information to the field, finding a gap in the understanding and filling it. It really is the hardest AP, or really, just hardest class, on any given campus, because it's not about learning content and showing your knowledge on it like other courses, but to learn an entirely different kind of academic writing than you've ever had to do and do real research that could be published in an academic paper (with some polishing most likely), and maybe the hardest part for some people, you need to be MOTIVATED. Like dulcidyne said, they had no curiosity for teenage suicide in Japan, so even if they had stuck with that topic, it would've been much harder to actually get themself to do, but by changing topics when they retook the course, they had that motivation and interest in their topic.
Personally, I'm doing a content analysis on the world building of Homeland by R A Salvatore and enjoying the hell out of it, but that's beside the point.
Learning these skills at a young age is SO GODDAMN IMPORTANT, and while I don't think every student should have to take quite as rigorous a class as AP Research, the class was based off of a Pennsylvania (I think that's the state) school's senior graduation requirement for a reason. Students need to learn how to do real research, otherwise they'll flounder in the world of discovery and innovation that we live in
the single worst thing about the hbomberguy video is that some of the comments i'm seeing from internet randos suggest the twelve billion "plagiarism is bad" lectures i was forced to attend in university might actually have been necessary for some people

I really feel tremendous grief for friendships that kind of petered away in the face of life's currents. There are people with whom I formed deep, unique, vibrant, life-changing connections, and then we had to go our separate ways and it was too hard to maintain long-distance. There wasn't a fight, it just sort of faded. And I feel like I have more friendships like this than friendships that have endured, so maybe I just have to get used to it. But if grief is all the love we have left over - well, I never did get to finish loving them. I love them, and I miss them, and I probably always will.

Every time I think about the Tree of Feelings I can't help but be a little underwhelmed at how the most popular depictions of it is just. the tree. on a hill. surrounded by miles of nothing but grass and maybe a few houses in the distance.
Yeah, no thanks. I'll just go with my own interpretation on this one

dunno about you guys but i’m still not over “i’m sorry fiddleford” being a part of ford’s thoughts in the last mabelcorn. i don’t think i’ll ever be over it. because like!! ugh…
devastating to me that the regret he still feels about that time didn’t present itself on the screen as like… “i shouldn’t have trusted him” (him being bill) or something similarly vague. no!! sure he probably dwells on his mistakes having had the possibility of destroying the world, but the thought that was at the forefront of his mind was specifically about FIDDLEFORD.
and like! how often must he think about that for it to show up right away? how often does he lay awake at night thinking about how he so callously threw away their friendship over a misguided fantasy of glory and success? when fiddleford had always believed in him? when fiddleford had been right about the portal being a dangerous idea all along?
it kills me to realize how deeply ford must miss him in the days he’s back home. he has his family now, of course, and he’s warming up to them bit by bit, but what had felt like home to him for a good while was fiddleford. they lived together, worked together, fiddleford was ford’s best and only friend. and now everything is different, and ford doesn’t even know where fiddleford IS, much less if he’d ever want to reconcile their friendship.
“i’m sorry fiddleford.” fiddleford, who uprooted his life to be by his side. fiddleford, who devoted so much of himself to ford’s ideals, to ford’s eventual success. fiddleford, who stuck with him until he literally couldn’t anymore, until the result of ford’s foolish ambitions irreperably scarred him and severed their ties. “i’m sorry fiddleford.”

So: further bad news, gang
Laptop I bought shit a brick and would no longer boot (had several blue screens even during before and after attempting to factory reset it and multiple windows recovery errors) so no more writing for a bit.
Instead of buying a new laptop, I'm going to take my original borked desktop to Best Buy to see if Geeksquad can't fix her because god almighty if I trust another local shop and they forget her again, I will actually commit murder.
So if you would like to assist me in paying for repairs as I attempt to save every last penny I have for rent, food, and travel, you can do so here:
I don't know how much it will be but I fully anticipate having to get another new motherboard or a brand new psu since it won't boot up at all since the local shop incident— so any amount helps.
Thank you for your time and hhhhhhhhh I am so tired man

Let me retire!
Danny was tired of being a hero, in addition to being a profession that paid with nothing more than mental exhaustion and ungrateful citizens, the halfa was tired of having to bandage his wounds day after day, tired of seeing both perspectives and not knowing which side take
Danny could understand ghosts, he could understand how their obsessions were a fundamental part of who they were as people and there were things they couldn't help. While he initially protected Amity from the ghosts, at some point he also had to protect the ghosts from Amity.
So, it's no wonder that as soon as he saw the founding of the "Justice League" he declared that he was going to retire. He told it to the ghosts, since the humans weren't going to pay much attention to him.
The problem was when 2 weeks later he had to come out of his early retirement because the League had labeled Amity as "neutral ground" and "dangerous" and they were "capturing" criminals, who weren't even criminals, Ember was giving a concert!
Frustrated, the halfa went to the Watchtower, it was supposed to be his retirement! stop ruining it!

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
-Evelyn Beatrice Hall, The Friends of Voltaire
The first amendment allows us to say what we want, whenever we want, without our government punishing us for our words. KOSA, therefore, is violating our first amendment rights. It's mass censorship of the internet, and our right to freedom of speech is being suppressed BY THE GOVERNMENT. Our founding fathers created this as THE FIRST AMENDMENT, and clearly thought this was important. Oh, wouldn't they be disappointed to see what their descendants are doing now. KOSA, a mass censorship bill that will contradict our constitution as we know it. KOSA, which instead of protecting the kids is in fact putting them in harms way. KOSA, which will put so so many people in danger. And we can stop it, but we have to fight. We MUST fight
To hear one voice clearly, we must have the freedom to hear them all

tbh my latest biggest theory for why HoO and onwards is such a dramatic drop in quality and consistency is just. Rick stopped making teaching guides.
Like, the Lightning Thief teacher's guide is SUPER in-depth with even stuff like sources about middle grade child psychology and exact specifications of where he's applying that, explaining what different character's goals/motivations are, their dynamics with each other and their environments, etc etc. Even specifying which specific myths certain plot elements are supposed to reference or be about.
That stuff just doesn't exist for later books. There's activity guides and smaller, significantly more simple teacher guides for later books but they don't go into anywhere NEAR the same level of depth. The TLT one is a full lesson plan that breaks down the book at every level and explains what's going on and more or less why Rick did that. The others are all basically just glossaries of terminology and some simple question guides.
And they didn't even use the TLT teacher's guide for the Disney+ show because they clearly aren't adhering to any of what's discussed in that breakdown of the book.
By creating a teaching guide alongside writing the actual book, that's forcing you to document what you're doing, why, your sources, and information about your characters and the story they're in. It's like an even more in-depth version of a series bible. But that's lacking for later books (and etc) and it shows because that level of thought and depth and attention just isn't there anymore.

No cause it's actually so funny that because Curly doesn't like sweets.
His friends (including Jimmy) were like "damn he wont like a normal cake what do we do?" and remembered he likes to work out so they went to like the Walmart health section and just threw protein powered in with the least sweet cake mix and were like "Dude... we fucking did it!!!"
Happy Birthday!!!
Like it makes the firing party scene a little bit sadder cause he chose his birthday of all days in that week to break the news. His friend berates him and tries to get everyone against him. He has to make his own cake due to protocols and even then he's just picking at the slice because it's not something he cares for. Not that he'd have an appetite for it anyway. Everyone is mostly silent and all he's can do and stare at this cake and think of what else could go wrong...
Happy Birthday indeed.
