And when she does ban people (which she does often), she doesn’t just silently remove them—she publicly shames them first. EVERY DRAGON HAS ITS DAY

Dauntless the dragon looked over the corner of his cave, staring at the skeleton of the knight he had eaten yesterday. He tapped his claw on a gold coin, one of the thousands he sat upon, his giant leathery wings folded gently across his back. He had planned to raid the nearest village this afternoon, burn a few houses, make a few hundred people scream and later have a cup of tea with the local princess. But he just wasn’t feeling it. Frankly, he wasn’t feeling anything nowadays. Just to sit in his cave all day, blowing smoke rings and eat any knights who were foolish enough to visit.

“Hello? Is anyone here?” A voice echoed from the base of the cave. Dauntless snapped his head up, wondering who on earth that was. It couldn’t be Princess Aria; she was on her honeymoon or princess Fiona who was still stuck in a tower in another kingdom. Maybe a knight? But he wasn’t expecting Sir Roland to be visiting in another couple of days.

He got his answer when the visitor finally came inside. It was…a girl. Not more than 13 or 14, wearing a purple blouse, a black flowy dress and small-heeled leather boots, along with striped leggings. A waterfall of raven-black hair cascaded from underneath a pointy black hair with a distinct pink bow around it.

Dauntless raised an eyebrow. This should be interesting…

“Hello? Didn’t you hear me?!” The girl huffed, putting her hands on her knees as she breathed heavily. She threw her heavy satchel to the ground. “It’s rude to keep people waiting, you know!”

Dauntless just stared at her. He wasn’t sure if he should eat her alive or apologize for the inconvenience.

“Oh, don’t pretend like you can’t talk!” The girl put her hands on her hips once she’d gotten herself together. “I’m a friend of Princess Maxine. She told me you never showed up to her tea party. She’s mad about that, by the way. She said if you ever show yourself again, she’ll keep your head as a trophy.”

He chuckled. He had to admit, Max was the only princess he was genuinely scared of. He cleared his throat before lowering his neck to her level.

“Very well, human,” He spoke quite formally, though his voice sounded a bit gruff. “You called my bluff. How may I help you?”

The girl made a triumphant ‘hmm!’ before bending down to pick up a book from her satchel. MAGICAL CREATURE STUDIES was written in cursive on the thick green cover. “I just have some questions,” she said matter-of-factly.

He watched as she flipped through the pages, now sitting cross-legged on the ground, before landing on a particular annotated chapter about dragons.

“I’ve been fascinated about your species,” the girl said, almost admiringly, as she traced a finger across every line, some underlined in ink. A crude drawing of anatomical dragon laid beside the real one in the book. It looked just like Dauntless.

“Oh, really?” He said with an amused chuckle. “Why’s that?”

The young witch shrugged. “I don’t know. I just have. My teacher, Miss Willow, gave us an assignment: to write about a magical creature of our choice. I picked a dragon. ” She looked away. “The whole class laughed, even Miss Willow, who thought I wanted to commit suicide. So that’s why I’m here. To prove them wrong.”

Dauntless nodded thoughtfully before looking her straight in the eye. “What is your name, little girl?”

“Sabrina.”

“Well, Sabrina, you have a brave heart, but I must admit that your teacher isn’t far from the truth.” He blew a smoke ring in the direction of the pile of skeletons hidden in the darkness of a corner. “My brothers…me, even…have been predators of you humans for a long time. We hunt, you hide. There’s nothing more to that.”

“But there is!” Sabrina scrambled to her feet, her book almost falling off her lap. “Us humans started it first. We hunted you first! We wanted your treasure! We wanted your head! We’re at fault!”

He blinked, definitely not expecting the outburst. “Isn’t it blasphemy to speak against your own people, little girl?”

Sabrina huffed, folding her arms against her chest indolently. “My people won’t disrespect mighty magnificent creatures such as dragons. My people won’t underestimate such power and yet fear it. My people won’t have such small, ignorant brains!”

This time, Dauntless laughed out loud, making the whole cave shake and extinguishing a few of the lanterns on the walls. Sabrina watched in awe and quickly made notes in her book.

“All right, Sabrina.” He wiped the tears in his eyes. He hadn’t laughed this much since his tea parties with princesses. “You are definitely not like your people. Now, let’s go on with this assignment, shall we?”

They spent the next few hours together; Dauntless telling her stories and facts, like how he was born on a distant island before his father had taken him for his first hunt or how dragons have excellent navigational skills, even going as far as to teach her how to roar like a dragon. Sabrina listened and watched with uttermost curiosity, jotting down all the facts and stories. Before they knew it, the sun was slowly setting in the horizon, casting the sky a beautiful pink and orange over the kingdom.

Sabrina looked at the sky hesitantly. “Oh. It’s getting dark. Mummy would be worried…”

Dauntless sighed heavily. “I suppose so…But I don't want you to go out in the dark…”

Sabrina winked mischievously and pulled out a stick, made of polished wood and twisted at the handle –a wand. “I’m a witch, remember? I know a travelling spell!”

She quickly packed her things and said a sheepish goodbye before Dauntless bellowed, “STOP!”

Sabrina stopped in her tracks and looked back at him. He cleared his throat self-consciously before using his tail to scoop up a few gold coins from his hoard and extended it to her. Her brown eyes twinkled at the sight of them. There were over thirty coins.

“Take this…for your family,” Dauntless said, smiling. “Hope it won’t be too heavy!”

“It won’t!” Sabrina scooped the coins into her satchel before almost doubling over at the weight, grunting like a pig. “See? Light as a feather!”

They shared a laugh once more and Sabrina waved goodbye before tapping her wand on her head. In a flurry of sparkles, she disappeared. Dauntless rested on his hoard, strangely satisfied. What a day, he thought, before settling down for a well-deserved nap.

As a dragon, you are used to humans entering to obtain your treasure or your head. "I need help with my magic school homework" is a new one though.

He is so friendly that he often invites her to dinner at his house. He has a long relationship with the student council members, and is a central figure among his friends, having played a part in solving problems at Reinhard's family home, the relationship between Julius' and his brother, and rehabilitating the rebellious Ferris. Vice President of Lugunica Academy's Student Council. Beautiful, athletic, and friendly, he is the superstar of the school, and not only the students but also the teachers are charmed by him. He likes his friends who have strengths that he does not have, and he is the driving force behind making Subaru's joke come true when he said, "If you're the vice president, I'll be the student council president," and forming the student council with his best friends. His family has produced many local notables for generations, and he lived a very controlled life in middle school, but thanks to his friends, he was able to free himself and became the friendly large dog he is today. He welcomes the protagonist into the student council, but because she is not aware of his popularity, the protagonist gets too friendly with him and gets herself into trouble. After school, he usually has dinner at Subaru or Julius' house, goes out at night with Ferris, and then goes home, living up his youth. He is probably the one closest to making the school's legend come true.

The treasurer of Lugunica Academy's Student Council. Known as "The Best," he is an honor student who is the opposite of Reinhard, but is too serious and has an airheaded temperament. He was against filling the student council positions with family members until the end, but he also brings the most personal belongings to the student council room. There was a time when he struggled with the things that come with being from a wealthy family, but he managed to get through it with the help of his younger brother. He has deep gratitude and respect for the student council members who helped him at the time. He is in the top class of academic performance, and competes with the protagonist over test scores. He can get surprisingly heated during competitions, and the tea and sweets that the protagonist gives him to keep quiet about showing that side of him make for a relaxing tea time. He is equally popular with Reinhard and the girls at school, and is childhood friends with Ferris. When the student council is noisy, it's usually Julius and Subaru arguing.

Lugunica Academy's Student Council secretary. A boyish girl with a cunning and friendly air, affectionately nicknamed "Ferris". While he is very charming, he also has a cat-like disposition, shying away when you approach him. Surprisingly, he used to be a delinquent student, and when he rebelled against his parents, his childhood friend Julius and his friends Subaru and Reinhard brought him back to the light, and that's how he is now. Contrary to his cuteness, he has a two-sided personality, and is actually more manly than any of the student council members. He has a strong sense of territory, and is actually the strictest when it comes to the protagonist. He is always ready to kick her out if something happens, so as a result, they are often together. He specializes in one talent, and his academic performance is inversely proportional to his charm, and he only becomes a secretary because someone told him, "Ferris' handwriting is so pretty." However, he does try to write beautifully.

What still remains from the trailers?

Only three episodes left and we've knocked out a lot of the trailer footage, but what's left? This is going to have both show and book spoilers, though I only really go through The Shadow Rising here, plus various trailer and casting spoilers for the show (including a big casting spoiler for 3x08).

From our first teaser trailer, all of 0:01-0:12 has been accounted for.

Our first shot that is probably from 3x06 is at 0:13, which I believe is Liandrin dreaming about sitting on the Amyrlin Seat, talking to Lanfear, and that this may then transition to the "My cabal is loyal to me and I am loyal to you" scene from the most recent of the teasers (from the ep5 "inside the episode"). otoh, it does kinda have that echo-y vibe of TAR, so it also might be Liandrin testing out the dream ter'angreal that the Black Ajah stole from the White Tower, and she's in TAR proper (introducing us to the idea of ter'angreal being used to enter TAR).

Everything else is accounted for until we get to 0:21 -- I don't think we've gotten this shot of Moiraine lying on the ground yet. It didn't happen in Rhuidean. And her clothing... it almost looks like she has a coat draped over her. It feels like we haven't gotten the scene of Moiraine standing up with the sun behind her (also from 0:21) yet either.

At 0:24, we have the shot of Egwene & Rand in the Cold Rocks Hold temple that I believe will happen in 3x06 and that I'm hoping is Egwene helping Rand work on controlling his dreams to keep Lanfear out, and potentially marking them collaborating as exes, because basically all involved people (Josha, Maddy, Rafe) have implied that Randgwene will be getting to that kind of place this season (finally) and they are running out of time to show it on-screen. Rand looks like he's just been through it in this scene, while Egwene seems more cool and distant.

0:28 is Rand and someone in a very big cloak walking in the sands. That assembled line of Aiel in front of them is making me think Alcair Dal. The person with Rand appears to have darker hair than he does, so I don't think it's Couladin, but I still have no clue who it is.

0:38 is an unhappy Lanfear in her TAR black outfit turning away from someone and looking unhappy. I think this is from her encounter with Egwene. The outfit matches.

0:45 is Rand and Couladin at Alcair Dal -- after Couladin has shown off the dragons on his arms but before Rand has. Couladin's hair does look a little darker here, so maybe he's the figure with Rand in 0:28 (but why would they walk in together?).

0:46 Lanfear in a shiny black dress. I think this is also the dress that she kills Moiraine in during the Rhuidean visions, but this isn't in the format of the visions (and Lanfear looks a lot less gleeful), so I think it's "real life". I think she slicked back her hair when she visited Moiraine in 3x01, so maybe she's just stopped pretending to be sweet Selene for Rand by this point.

A little later at 0:46, we get a wide shot of the presentation of Rand & Couladin at Alcair Dal. Only half of the clan chief seats are filled (likely because we'll get the attack on Cold Rocks Hold in 3x06, and Rand & co will be booking it to Alcair Dal before all the clans have arrived, like in the books). It looks like this is Rand while he's taking off his coat.

0:49 - Min in what looks like a storage room of some kind, definitely Tanchico and potentially in our upcoming episode, 3x06.

0:50 - Moggy and Liandrin. Moggy is no longer in her servant get-up and Liandrin looks pretty nervous, so this is after Moggy has 'claimed' Liandrin & co for herself. Could be either 3x06 or 3x08.

0:51 - Faile perches on Perrin's lap and kisses him. I suspect this may be in 3x06 and will be a "glad you're alive kiss" after Faile saved Perrin in the most recent episode. That or a brief check-in post-battle, in 3x08.

0:52 - Elayne in Tanchico, looking startled. Might be the first time she sees Thom, and recognizes him?

0:52 - intent Egwene, likely in TAR. I don't think we've seen this specific shot yet.

The very first shot is one that we haven't gotten yet -- I think it's Rand & co heading to Alcair Dal. The color of the sand reminds me of the sand where Rand does his tattoo reveal.

0:24 - I'm not certain we've yet gotten this shot of Liandrin in her messy hair, looking up.

0:36 - shots of Trollocs attacking the barricades of the Two Rivers, we see a glimpse of Perrin & Faile fighting.

0:27 - I don't think we've gotten this shot of someone dramatically opening a door from bright sunlight to a room of darkness yet.

Right afterwards, we have Moggy with her blackened fingers stroking Nynaeve's face, likely when she's interrogating her under Compulsion. Moggy is still in her servant outfit when she's with Nynaeve, it looks like.

1:18 - Egwene asking Rand "do you love her?" likely near the start of 3x06 (I think the cold open will be Liandrin's backstory). Both Egwene and Rand look teary-eyed.

1:45 - Perrin at the Two Rivers' barricades (palisades?) - in the daylight, before the Shadowspawn attack at night.

2:00 - a long line of Aiel, most likely at Alcair Dal.

2:06 - Faile runs to Perrin in the middle of the battle and kisses him. It looks like we have Whitecloaks fighting against the Trollocs in the wider shot with Faile, but I don't see any of our Known Whitecloaks.

2:08 - Moiraine is in her fancy outfit that we saw her wearing in the visions of the rings a lot. She appears to be extremely upset, and Lan is picking her up in his arms. I think Lan has blood coming out of his nose, and Moiraine has sand all over her outfit and on the corner of her mouth. She's clutching her arms across her chest and I don't see the Orb (TM), so maybe Lanfear has succeeded in getting it away from her. That's dangerous!

2:10 - Rand at Alcair Dal, after he's removed his coat to reveal his tattoos, saying "This is what I was born to do."

Then we have the "coming this season" trailer that aired after the first episode.

Can't do timestamps as easily for this one, because it's attached to episode one, but we do see: a shot of someone with dark hair in pointy dark make-up -- might be Lanfear? Maybe we'll get a flashback to her first taking her Dark Oaths??? All dressed in black. There are some weird-looking sticky red threads of something in front of her in the scene.

We get a shot of Moiraine in her fancy clothes, most likely about to face off against Lanfear in the desert.

We get a shot of Rand lying on the dreamwalker pillow & rug in the Cold Rocks Hold temple.

Some shots of Trollocs charging towards the Two Rivers.

We get a shot of the Aes Sedai Sitters, wearing fancy shawls in the colors of their Ajah, standing up in front of their seats. Might be a flashback to Siuan getting voted in as Amyrlin or might be something present-day.

We get a shot of Egwene in her damane clothes, tied to the same wheel that Lanfear put Rand on in s2. Lanfear approaches her and takes her by the throat. Lanfear does not look happy. This might be the Lanfear scene that we catch glimpses of in the teaser trailer as well. Lanfear trying to assert her control over Egwene in the dream world and she does NOT look smug and victorious the way that she did at the end of 3x05.

A blood-spattered group of Whitecloaks (led by Dain?) rides into the Two Rivers as Perrin quotes the Ila and says, "Violence never ends until someone says 'enough'." I think I see a Tuatha'an wagon near the Winespring Inn in this shot, and I might see Aram near it. Faile is near Perrin. Alanna & Maksim are visible in shot, as are Chiad & Loial. Maybe the Whitecloaks get attacked by Trollocs?

There's a shot of Elayne and someone that I think is Thom, gasping and turning to run away together from something or someone.

We see Whitecloaks attempting to hold the barricades against the Trollocs.

We get a tiny glimpse of Mat in his Tanchico clothes.

Okay! So that's a lot that we can slot into either 3x06 or 3x07, but relatively little that feels like it could come from 3x08, so 3x08 still feels relatively mysterious right now.

All we know for sure about what happens in it is that Rand is going to show off his dragons at Alcair Dal, but Couladin is also there with his own dragons; and that Moiraine is going to face off against Lanfear. From casting spoilers, it sounds Mat will be having his doorway encounter in 3x08, as "Eelfinn" is noted as being cast for 3x08, and he likely will end up getting hanged this season & getting his medallion (by Min's viewing and by the promo posters), but we don't know much beyond that.

We also know that 3x07 is either entirely the battle of the Two Rivers or almost entirely the battle.

Judging by the trailer... it doesn't look like Moiraine, Lan, or Egwene go with Rand to his desert presentation (or, if they do, they are far enough away from him not to be apparent in the wide shots). It looks like it's an all-Aiel affair, at least from what I can tell.

Specifically from next episode, we get teased with the very start of Egwene coming to speak with Rand, and then shift into a focus on the scenes in Tanchico. Of particular note to me, personally, as someone who really enjoys Mat & Elayne in the books and is excited about seeing what the show does with them -- it looks like, for part of the search, we split into Mat-Elayne and Min-Nynaeve duos!

After the shots of Egwene and Rand, we shift to a wide shot of Tanchico during the day, and all four of our investigators heading out in their veiled-up costumes.

It looks like we'll see Min-Nynaeve out investigating on the streets, while Mat-Elayne try asking questions inside some kind of large hall (a tavern? a place specifically entertainers?).

It looks like Mat tries to intervene when Elayne is talking to some people and Elayne ends up with a knife to her throat (either a bonding moment or a moment of additional friction, depending on how it's played).

We get Liandrin re-affirming her loyalty to Lanfear (in either her own dream or in TAR), and Lanfear is dressed in the white & silver outfit from when she attacked Cairhien and is seated on the Amyrlin Seat.

Then Min & Nynaeve meet back up with Elayne - she asks them if they've found anything, and they say they've located Liandrin.

Then we get some flashbacks to poor child-bride Liandrin, and it looks like she's discovering her ability to channel.

Gudako and Mash stared blankly at the sign hanging above the door.

They didn't know how they'd gotten here. Their last memories were… hazy. They were just hanging out in Gudako's room, then they passed out and woke up here.

Above the door hung a sign, saying "You can't leave until you have sex ☆"in a fancy font, in purple glittery ink.

Gudako sighed. "God damn it. BB." she said, facepalming. This had her scent all over it. She turned to Mash. "Well… Shall we?"

"Y-Yes, of course." Mash was blushing a little. "Do you want to… you know, um…" She trailed off.

She leaned in, giving Mash a kiss on the neck. "Hehe, you know I love going down on you. I'd be more than happy to~"

With a nod, Mash started taking off her tights.

Outside the room, BB giggled to herself. This was so, so perfect! Finally, she'd get those two to admit their unresolved feelings - and in the process, she'd get to bully and tease them. The very idea of those two blushing and squirming and trying to find any alternative means out put a huge grin on her face. Her temporary senpai was so easy to bully!

Trying her best to control her laughter, BB leaned in, pressing her ear to the door, straining to hear them.

She didn't hear any distress. Or squirming. Or them banging on the doors, begging for someone to let them go.

That was odd. She'd heard a little bit of talking earlier. They had to be awake, right? Were they just sitting there or something?

BB activated the security camera in the room and looked at what they were doing. Her jaw dropped; the two of them were already naked? Gudako was kissing her on the neck? Her hands were slowly drifting down Mash's back, getting dangerously close to her butt?! The two of them didn't seem humiliated by this at all!

Gudako's tender embrace was interrupted when the supposedly-unopenable door to the room slid open and BB stormed in.

"Senpai, what the hell?!" she screamed.

"Oh. Hi, BB." Gudako said, dryly. "I'm just getting us out of this nasty, devious trap that some unseen evil being put us in. Just give me a few and I'll be right with you."

BB ignored her. "Why aren't you embarrassed?! You're supposed to be embarrassed! And blushing! And��� And, I don't know, upset about this!" She puffed her cheeks out in annoyance.

"…Why?" Mash asked. "I… I mean, I am now, but… Why should I have been embarrassed when it was just us?"

"Why? Why?! WHY?!" BB screamed, fists clenched, stamping her feet. "Because you two have unrequired feelings! Because you've obviously been crushing on each other for years now! Because you're both hiding in fortified, lead-lined closets and don't want to admit you're lesbians!"

Gudako stared her straight in the eye. "BB. I don't know how to break this to you, but Mash and I have been dating for years now."

"…" BB was stunned. "…What… How… B-But… You two…" An embarrassed blush spread across her face. "How did you keep it a secret for so long?! From me, even! From ME! I know EVERYTHING that happens in Chaldea!"

"…Have you not noticed how we kiss in public all the time?" Mash asked. "We haven't been shy about it. At all. We share meals. I sit on her lap at movie nights. We make out in front of other people. Habetrot has been sending me bride dress designs for months, not-subtly implying we should just go ahead and get married. And she's far from the only person to have insinuated that..."

Gudako chuckled. "It sounds like you haven't been paying attention, BB~" she teased, before turning her attention back to Mash. "Now, if you'll excuse us, we were in the middle of something, so-"

"NO! NO, NO, NO! I refuse to believe this!" BB continued to scream, stomping even harder. "There's no WAY! You two are just… making fun of me! This is all some big stupid joke! You're all-"

Gudako held out her hand at BB, her command seals activating. "By my command: Either shut up or go away. We're busy."

In an instant, BB's tantrum was stopped in its tracks. She kept trying to scream at them, but no words would come out.

"That's better. Now… Where were we~?" Gudako teased, before leaning down towards Mash's crotch.

Defeated, BB took a seat in the chair in the corner of the room - a cuck chair she'd included for one of her previous bullying sessions on another couple. Never in her life did she think SHE'D be the one sitting in it…

…Yet, for reasons she couldn't explain, she didn't want to take the other option the command seal had given her.

BB sat in the chair, watching as Gudako began eating out Mash, arms crossed over her chest, pouting and fuming.

i totally see where you’re coming from. i don’t think helena has little to any control over her life and career at lumon. she is clearly trapped in the hell that is lumon and the kier cult. and she is of course unhappy with it. she is constantly monitored and directed by other lumon heads presumably so she can take her fathers place as the next ceo. so i do think she has a little power, not over the other lumon heads but in this situation. i also think that the ceo and other lumon heads are just figureheads as well. the real people in charge are likely the board and everyone at lumon answers to them. jame gives me the impression that he’s the boards trusted man on the ground, even if he’s so old. but if/when helena takes charge she would definitely be a puppet for the board and always answer to them. she’s the public figurehead that spouts their propaganda and helps spread severance.

the painting could have definitely just been to scare the innies. helly herself keeps telling mark that they can’t be together outside of the severed floor because she’s her. she’s the evil ceo-to-be that’s holding them captive and torturing them. and she knows how stubborn and scary helena can be because she is too. she doesn’t know what helena goes through and i doubt helena would ever admit those negative feelings to anyone. out of fear for what her father or the board might do. she has a much greater understanding of what they, and lumon as a whole, are capable of.

for you’re second theory, i have the exact same one!! that moment with jame and helly was one of my favorite parts of the finale. helly is the one jame wants to be his successor and daughter. i think next season we’re going to see jame trying to mold helly into the helena he wants. idk if they’ll try to brainwash, convert or make some sort of deal with helly to take helena’s place. that role reversal would be so interesting tho. helena literally being pushed out for a (mentally) younger and more antagonistic version of herself. imagine being told that you’re getting switched out for a version of you that’s nothing like you. that goes against everything they tell her. helena’s spent her whole life trying to please her father and the lumon heads just to be shut out for a version of her that is the complete opposite. it would make me go crazy! everything she’s worked for and sacrificed thrown out the window. it would be such an interesting dynamic. i do think helly will fight back but will there be something that subdues her? like if they offer her a life with mark s for her cooperation. “you can have the life you want with the man you love, but you also have to be the figurehead for our evil company :)” it would a real test her character. i’m very interested to see if helly would advocate for helena too, once she sees the life that helena’s been living and how she’s treated. but i do think they might treat helly differently because she’s who they want, they never wanted helena. i think helly would revel being in control at first, she would also not back down and make demands. but i think lumon will probably hold onto mark s as collateral. helena also getting mark s, although creepy and violating, would maybe make her somewhat happy. using both helly and helena against mark would be so cruel, so i definitely think lumon would do it.

kinda a crazy side thought but: maybe jame and lumon origionally created severance so he could make a version of his daughter that he liked. the kier cult cares a lot about the kier bloodline, so helena has to be the heir no matter what. she has no autonomy over her own body. she is just a meat suit that they need to fill. they will sever her as many times as they want to find a version of her that they deem fit. a version that they see kier in.

“They know everything we’re doing because Helena told them!” …..But they seemingly didn’t know about the plan to rescue Gemma. They had no idea that plan was taking place. And Helena was actively a part of helping them plan that. She didn’t seem to be trying to sabotage the plan at all even. I don’t think Helena told them. I think she kept that to herself.

“Yeah, well, who do you think they’re taking out their unhappiness on? It’s us,” another girl said.

“One boy at school used to draw a picture every day of how ugly I was,” a third girl said. “Every day for two years.”

“They’ve all got ‘Rate The Girls’ polls on their WhatsApps,” the first said. “They mark you down for weight gain, haircuts, what you say.”

“But then, if you’re hot, it’s just as bad, in a different way, because they’ll be talking about how they want to f*** you.”

The girls discussed coping techniques. Bad news: none of them worked.

“The only way you can stop them is if you become ‘one of the boys’ and hang out with them. But then,” the second girl said with a sigh, “all the other girls call you a slut. Because you’ve gone over to the boys’ side.”

“Surely it’s not all the boys?” I said. “There must be some nice boys?”

“Oh, yeah,” one girl said. “But they keep their heads down. Because… well, look.”

She showed me the Instagram account of her friend. Under every picture she posted of herself — smiling in a new dress; with her dog — dozens of anonymous accounts had replied with the most rank abuse.

“Fat.” “Slut.” “You gonna try and kill yourself again, for attention?”

“They’re all boys from her school,” she said. “And look, this one boy tried to defend her.”

I saw a series of messages from a brave teenage boy, posting things like, “You’re all big men, leaving these replies under anonymous accounts.”

As I could see, this boy immediately became a target too. Mainly accusations that he was “white knighting” this girl: “You wanna f*** her, bro?”

“So,” I asked, “you don’t think it’s social media pressure to be beautiful, or the economy, that’s making girls so sad?”

“Well, yeah, them too,” the first girl said. “But, Monday-Friday, 9-3, I’m not on social media. I’m not… in the economy. I’m just with these boys. And no one talks about how horrible they are.”

I thought about another recent report, showing a 30 per cent ideological gap between Gen Z men, who are increasingly conservative, and Gen Z women, who are increasingly progressive.

I thought about Andrew Tate, who has nine million mostly young male followers — and faces human trafficking charges, which he denies.

And I thought: maybe these girls are on to something. Maybe more people need to vape with teenage girls and ask them for the school gossip."
