I love All Engines Go so much.

It's not perfect and I understand why a lot of older Thomas fans don't like it, because it's super different from what everyone was used to and honestly barely even qualifies as a Thomas show in the first place. But I adore it.

I love the animation. The show is super good looking and has a very appealing art style. The colors are bright and the bouncy movements are engaging and entertaining to me.

I love the songs. There's a bunch of really catchy ones, and some of my personal favorites are Song of Sodor, Welcome to Sodor, What Really Matters, and The Mail Song.

I love the episodes themselves. I've watched all of the first and second season, as well as about 2/3 of the third, and out of all those episodes, there's very few that I genuinely dislike. I am definitely older than the target audience, but the episodes almost never make me feel like I'm being talked down to. The dialogue sounds natural for the most part. The episodes are generally well-written and teach pretty good lessons; Blue Engine Blues, What's in a Name, and The Accidental Bad Guy are all good examples of this.

I LOVE the characters. For starters, the main crew is fantastic. My favs are Percy and Bruno, but I adore all 8 of them. They're all very silly and very precious in their own ways. The secondary characters are lovely as well. I adore what a silly little funny man Sir Topham Hatt is now. Gordon, Tess, Cranky, Annie and Clarabel, Whiff, Salty, and Emily are all wonderful.

Finally, I love the overall tone and vibe of the show. It's very warm and comforting. It's nice to see these characters treat each other with kindness and understanding.

Ah so with anime it’s a very nuanced topic. Firstly, I want to preface that what I am about to say is strictly from my experience working in anime for three years now and even then I would highly implore to study the Animator Dormitory Project to learn from animators who are PHYSICALLY dealing with the imbalanced system that is the anime industry. ALSO, it is important to clarify more money does not equal better art visually. More money means more time and resources. How you use said resources and time is what determines the quality of art (as well as the quality of work environment for the people making said product). If we were to follow the logic that more money equals better art, that would mean the average Family Guy episode should look like an average Demon Slayer episode. That is simply not the truth because 1) every production is different therefore their needs and overall artistic vision will differ 2) you’d be surprised on how the money is actually spent versus what you think it should be spent on (ie American animated films choosing to do celebrity voice casting which eats up a shit ton of the budget when that could have gone to the production crew’s schedule and needs). So with that, please understand money does not play in the ways you think it does (ie if it makes the drawings better) but it cannot be denied it’s one of many factors. Alright?

Basically, anime is funded through production committees which are a group of investors (such as manga publishers, merchandise manufacturers, tv broadcast executives, etc). In America, we have a similar system known as the AMPTP however unlike America where an investor can invest in cross industry projects (ie. Mattel can invest in toys and film entertainment) in Japan they can only choose one industry. This leaves budgets for anime to not become incredibly inflated like we have here in America (ie most blockbuster movies nowadays). BUT because of this rule along with the rule of budget caps, the actual budgets of full seasons of animes have not changed much since maybe the 1960/70s. To bring it back to Family Guy, the average episode of that show from script to final broadcast has been reported to cost anywhere between $1-2 million PER EPISODE. If you multiply that with the full episode order (let’s say 13 just to match the average season of anime), you’re working with $13-26 million FOR A SEASON.

Anime, specifically TV anime, is not seeing that. Shinkai’s Your Name was reported to have $4.5mil for actual movie production (not including the advertising budget which would make it 7.5 or roughly 8mil). $4.5mil. For an anime film.

$4.5 million is a good (and rare) budget by American TV animation standards for PER EPISODE. Unless you’re like, Disney or something you can afford to do that but most average American TV animation is anywhere between $1-3 million per episode. And the average anime is seeing that $1-3mil PER SEASON due to budget caps. So if we do the math of dividing that $1-3mil across 13 episodes (and I’m gonna do this evenly because this is a hypothetical and in reality some episodes do have more money put into for more TIME and RESOURCES)…that would mean your average anime episode, from script to final broadcast, is only seeing a couple hundred thousand dollars unlike here in American where we have a couple million.

And so at this point you’re probably thinking, “Wait, this doesn’t make sense. How can Your Name look like the way it is if that’s what America could spend on a single animated episode? Why is there such a wide disparity between the actual budget versus the final product’s visuals?” And that, my dear Shadow (sorry if that came off weird) is where we have to talk about communication. You see, even though Demon Slayer might not be seeing the same episode budget like we do in America what Japanese studios have in spades that American studios spent over 2 DECADES eradicating is in house layout and animation teams.

The reason why anime looks the way it is on such smaller budgets is quite honestly because they are communicating with each other in real time. In America, we ship our storyboards to a studio overseas (usually Korea, Philippines, India, etc) where we are basically playing a gambling game of whether or not the overseas studios produce the desired work we want. And spoiler alert: it hardly ever truly happens because of language barriers and these overseas are often not given enough money (remember that means time and resources) to actually succeed. Hence, you go into retakes which cost money and spend it back to overseas which cost money, and then it comes back and retakes are still needed which cost money yet again and I think you’re beginning to see why this system in American studios is awful.

Because the amount of money you spent doing that back and forth with retakes and shipping with an overseas studio who was not set up for success could have been spent on having an in house layout and animation team like they do in Japanese studios.

As someone who has freelanced on animes as well worked at vendor overseas studios for American made productions, I cannot understate how having that instant communication (as well as cultural understanding) can drastically change how things get animated. Being able to talk to your director about their intent for a scene at an instant is much more productive than waiting 6-8 months for a Russian roulette bullet. So my point is, the direct communication Japanese studios have within is the true unsung hero as to why 1) visually beautiful shows like Dandadan or Demon Slayer exist 2) they are able to have such a wide variety of visual styles under the anime umbrella because Japanese studios do value auteurship just a tad bit more than American studios who as of late is homogenizing our media cause it’s “safe”.

Also, another component that can factor into why anime looks the way it does despite smaller budgets is because Japan as a society heavily values reputation. On one hand, it’s cool that artists are willing to come together to bring the vision of an artist they admire to fruition. But on the other, it is often used to exploit these artists into very shitty work situations (ie me when I worked on JJK). It’s such a hard thing to talk about because as artists we do tend to sacrifice our well being for the sake of art but I could understand why someone on the outside might feel confused (or frustrated) that we would choose to put ourselves in a poor situation. Sometimes, you’re just willing to take a lesser pay and tighter deadlines to work on a project that speaks to you creatively. And it really do just be that. But for the case of anime, it is often because these artist want to work with a person they admire so who I am to judge them when I’ve done the same haha. But my point being, because Japanese studios have that in house communication and are more open to artist auteurship there’s just more room to have visually distinctive episodes, animated sequences, designs and so on despite the budgets not being the greatest (if we’re going by American standard of living because it is objectively true that Japan is not as costly as places like NY and LA).

I could go on and on about this but I think this answer has become way too long haha. But in summary, Japan isn’t seeing as big as budgets as you think you are from an American perspective. Anime budgets virtually have not changed that much for decades despite it being mainstream and incredibly profitable. I will add that studios like Kyoani and Ufotable have the advantage of potentially self funding their projects, which allows more creative power to the studio itself rather than having to comply to the production committee’s whims. But those studios are like….rare gems ‘cause they chose to nurture talent and be selective with their art over time as opposed to Mappa who is spreading the talent and production crew super thin by adapting too many shows. What makes the art in anime look that way is more so a result of passion and respect for the craft (as well as they’re just open to a lot more versus American execs who are risk-adverse). It would be great if they were given more money so they weren’t producing episodes on such tight schedules (usually a handful of months before official broadcast) but it’s really a testament of how they effectively allocate the money where it’s needed as well. It’s truly an amazing balancing act in a system that’s equally imbalanced.

Phew, that was a long one but I hope I answered your question. And with that, always remember kids that money does not equal better art. Money means more time and resources and how you use it is what determines the overall artistic vision of a production.

She-Ra In He-Man Revelations/Revolution

So it's been a few days and I wanted to put this post out there to basically publicly give my thoughts on some... recent developments concerning He-Man Revolution. Before I go into this, MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING FOR THE SHOW!

And also, and this is probably MORE important than the spoiler warning. Do not, and I repeat, do not take whatever speculation I put in this post as gospel or something that is GOING to happen. I may be a bit more knowledgeable than a lot of people about this stuff, but I don't wanna consider myself an expert. This is just me speculating and giving my thoughts and I don't want to get anyone's hopes up because there's a good chance, that what I'm saying turns out to be completely wrong and I don't wanna be responsible for that, so please, take all of this with the smallest grain of salt possible.

With that out of the way...

So the new season of He-Man ends with the reveal of this lady, Despara. For those who don't know... she is Adora. As in She-Ra Adora. In the DC He-man comics, Despara was the name Adora was known as when she was raised as Hordak's daughter. Her name is often used by Catradora fan artists and fic writers who really wanna just make Adora a hot evil lesbian, usually with a hot butch hairdo. It is likely that if/when another season of this show comes, Despara will be the main focus.

Now this raises the obvious question... how are they going to handle the She-Ra stuff. As I have made posts about before, the She-Ra rights and He-Man rights have been separate for a very long time and apparently, the last thing I heard, Mattel themselves can't use any of the She-Ra characters in animated form due to Dreamworks owning them now.

So naturally, you might be thinking that Despara here is just a placeholder because they can't use She-Ra. Except... there are a LOT of She-Ra references in this season that are way too numerous to be just references.

For example:

They recreate the exact scene from the 80s She-Ra movie where Adora is taken as a baby by Hordak in a flashback scene. They also mention Horde Prime existing as well and they EVEN imply that Shadow Weaver exists in this universe as well and Hordak's new robot second-in-command, Motherboard is a replacement for her.

So yeah, all signs SEEMINGLY point to some sort of She-Ra-inspired adaption being the next part of this show. Now, considering the very complex rights issues... I can see this going one of two ways.

Mattel and Dreamworks did a deal like the one Sony and Marvel did with Spiderman to temporarily get the She-Ra rights back for JUST this next season. Despara is revealed to be Adora and her arc will be her learning her true family AND eventually becoming She-Ra to fight Horde Prime with her brother and possibly all the other She-Ra cast are there too. This I feel like it would be the ideal solution to all of this.

2. Despara is revealed to be someone else OTHER than Adora under her helmet because her face is obviously not seen in her brief scene when she takes her helmet off. Technically, Mattel would own Despara outright and not Dreamworks and they could easily make Despara her own character. This was also how they planned to include her in the second season of CGI He-Man. HOWEVER, considering all the foreshadowing and knowing how many people working on these shows loved SPOP... I feel like it'd be really unsatisfying if it wasn't Adora under the mask, both as a fan and from a creative standpoint.

As for my personal theory of what Despara's whole deal is, I think she's ruling Etheria on the other side of the galaxy with Catra and serving personally under Horde Prime. Basically SPOP but a bad ending. The plot will be He-Man and his friends finding out about Etheria and going there to free the planet and Despara will redeem herself and she and Catra and whoever will join team good guy.

But that's just my personal theory. I really don't know what the hell is going to happen here or even IF more episodes will even be coming and I don't want to get people's hopes up. There's a reason I myself have been working on my own She-Ra and He-Man crossover extended universe stuff for the last while so, at the very least, there'd be a fanfic that would satisfy my hopes. I am prepared to be very wrong here.

But even if none of this speculation pans out, I still highly recommend this show to She-Ra fans. The second season definitely fixed the few issues I had with the first one and I hope more comes out of this version of He-Man... then again, it wouldn't be the first time a He-Man series was cancelled.

Keep in mind that Mattel would still have to approve it so don’t go crazy with dark lore + queer ships but definitely can add more than what was originally in the series - or you can completely discard this and do what you want. Rules are made to be broken.

I would actually love to hear this extremely detailed if you had lots of ideas

I have been terrified of an ask like this one gracing my inbox. (Still grateful). As much as I ponder the franchise I haven’t thought of much that would objectively move the plot forward. What I’ve been obsessing over are the cracks in explanation or how plain everyone is in a world filled with magic.

Firstly, thank you? One of the reasons I haven’t asked anything twice is because if anyone wants to answer the prompt they are free to (Please do, I beg y’all). And because I figure people have already suggested these ideas already but outright saying “Hey, I want you to answer” appears to work best.

I really like asking people things! But it takes a while when a person has no clear prompt for questions ("asks are open" is vague in this bottleneck of a fandom). Or I see content on their blog that already answer a question I might’ve asked/not involved with other fandoms on said blog.

Also like, the asks I’ve gotten before were objectively a challenge so I just thought that was the bar…

I will say right now I don’t like crossovers so I don’t have many ideas regarding that (Even with g1 monster high).

So webisode ideas….

An episode in which Kitty either apologizes or doubles down on what she did in a Cat who Cried Wolf. (Let’s be clear, the consequences for Cerise would have been worse than death. I am still bitter) (and have also forgotten most of the books if this is ever rectified).

A few episodes where Apple and Raven don’t appear at all and also doesn’t introduce anyone new (they aren’t bad, I’m just bored of them appearing in everything).

Conversely, a few episodes where it focuses on the fact that allegedly Raven and Apple have a social circle outside of their room mate.

An episode focusing on the brothers Grimm. I noticed that after Spring Unsprung continuity from the specials doesn’t seem to matter to webisode continuity. So it probably won’t delve into the resentment Giles has built up from being trapped. The next best alternative is something involving Milton’s obsession with the unicorns. Maybe Milton lost a unicorn but is too embarrassed to announce it and sends Giles (or Giles notices on his own and helps anyway) to find it.

And an episode where Ginger has to reconstruct something on her gingerbread cottage and Cerise and Ramona are enlisted to help her.

A boys only episode. Idc what the plot is.

Full salt ahead…

An episode where either Duchess or Ramona call out Poppy on her apparent Roybelness. (Ramona mostly, and then when Poppy reveals the sister secret Ramona is still annoyed, and points out that Grimm probably wouldn’t force them to switch places if he knew at this point (because you don't need two Rapunzel's, but you need at least one Badwolf). Cerise is the reluctant peace keeper)

Oh and also an episode where people eventually hear about the Red/Badwolf romance (friendship?) but mistakenly attribute it to Cerise and Ramona somehow. Obvious it gets cleared up by the end.

If nothing else a picnic date between Ramona and Red.

It seemed towards the end we would have gotten something focused on the hood-badwolf sisters. I'm not sure if the reveal of the secret and acceptance is what I want. I would want a special wholly dedicated to the reform school. Or at least, whatever Ramona did to her sent there.

Because it feels kinda annoying to shove the whole arc of acceptance into 45 minutes start to finish. And nothing in the show explicitly conflicts with Cerise revealing her secret to Hood Hollow (Unfairest of them All) which is objectively the bigger fish for them, compared to the populous of Ever After High, so, I'd be bored watching it. Besides even if in show canon Cerise didn't do what she did. It'd still be just the high school they focus on.

Given how the webisodes are formatted I would've preferred they dealt with the reveal that way (or like how they did THD). The tension between uploads would help.

Okay fine he’ll wear ONE (1) pink accessory. Probably a pin but it’s for you, and he’s a fan of you and making you happy.

You on the other hand went FULL out, full pink, holding the gloved hand of your emo ass partner. “✨ Two tickets to the Barbie movie please! 🥰” while the poor cashier is getting death stares from your man.

It’s very bright and happy huh. Some of the jokes are lost on this man, he’s just enjoying the calmness of being at a cinema with you!

Though, that’s more of a paranoid thought. While you’re simply perfect and part of his life, it’s obvious he has much more of a life than just pleasing you.

He can’t help but kiss your hand during the movie, smiling towards you fondly. It’s a rare soft moment, one you don’t understand but this stupid movie and this sticky floored cinema means everything to him right now because it’s a calm with you.

He would be… so into this idea. He’s 100% wearing something pink. Earlier seasons? He can’t wear much due to needing to keep his head covered but he’ll work with the accessories. Later seasons? FULL PINK. Man found the cowboy hat he refuses to not wear the cowboy hat.

Unironically he loves Barbie land. Why can’t he be a sentient doll that never needs to eat or sleep and can have girls night every night?

“Wouldn’t you be a Ken?” “Nah, definitely a Barbie.” He’s your Barbie ❤️

Actively boos at the real world in the movie. Barbie is the only redeeming quality of the real world.

At first the themes of the movie go over his head completely, he’s just here for the shenanigans/snacks.

Halfway through the movie he seems to get a bit more invested. Wait- the Barbie movie has a message?!

He’s 100% bawling at the Barbie movie.

He’s changed his mind, he loves being human and holding your hand and feeling these intense emotions towards the stupid doll movie. He loves this stupid doll movie, he won’t stop crying.

Barbie is so pretty…

Though, Toga is particularly interested in Ken and Barbie having this odd dynamic of Ken being interested and Barbie being… not so interested.

She worries that maybe her love for others is eclipsing her personality but…

Toga had learned a lot from the LOV, she’s her own person. Always growing. Being with everyone is just a bonus, a huge one.

She LIVES for all the music. I personally believe she’s a CharlieXCX fan-

Favourite character? Gloria. She’s a good, tired mom. Toga would have loved to have a mom like her!

Hawks:

He’s surprisingly agreeable to the idea of seeing it “once it comes out.”

What the dick doesn’t tell you is that he was invited to the premier, and so are you now.

He’s such a show off. He’d paid for you both to have accurate Barbie and Ken fits. It’s a complete surprise to you as you whisper into his ear that if he ever does this again? You’re stealing his credit card and fleeing the country.

Though, for now? The very fancy popcorn (in its biggest serving size) will be enough for your forgiveness.

Past the awkward encounter of dealing with the *pink* carpet, it’s a pretty regular movie date. You get a good spot, in a mostly empty cinema with plenty of snacks.

He’s not the most into this movie, but he mostly enjoys glancing over to you to see how you’re reacting to it.

That and he bought a big hot dog. Normally he’s not supposed to indulge in lower quality foods but lord, it hits a spot.

Ken’s plight is very funny to him.

He also highly appreciates the props, they just look neat.

Admittedly he’s looking at the Mattel higher ups in the movie, he knows it’s meant to be exaggerated but they remind him of the commission.

After the movie? He’s taking you home to really… really appreciate that barbie outfit he got you.

hi everyone, i'm a new book review sideblog. i've always wanted to start a blog but now i've actually taken that step. i love reading and now that i'm older, i am now more able to critically interact with the media i consume. i hope to share some books that i have read recently, books that i want to read and also any reading challenges that i have set for myself. below these very pretty headers, i will include some information about myself as well as the books i am currently reading, the music i am currently listening to and the shows or movies that i may be watching! i might also share my tbr list! thanks for reading!

currently reading i'm going to be honest, i tend to read a few books at once, however it is usually one novel and a couple encyclopaedic books, so right now i am reading edgar allan poe's the narrative of arthur gordon pym of nantucket alongside a classical mythology encyclopaedia. i'm also part of a book club and the books that we read together will make an appearance here. we recently read the letters we keep by nisha sharma, so expect a review for that, as well as one for weyward by emilia hart, which we read before that!

reading challenges currently doing a goodreads challenge to read 20 books this year since it has been quite difficult to get back into reading for pleasure + i am obsessed with mike flanagan's the fall of the house of usher on netflix, and i've already watched it twice but before i inevitably watch it for a third time, i've decided to read the tales, poems and novels by edgar allan poe that were referenced in the show; i'll try and include a link to my complete list!

currently listening to i love me some victoria monet and i've had her music on repeat consistently for the last couple years! i have also taken an interest in fleetwood mac, kate bush, and mos def. i've also been keeping up with the kendrick v. drake beef, so i've been listening to quite a bit of his recent releases. i might be willing to make a list (or maybe a playlist - not entirely sure) of some of my favourite songs at the moment.

currently watching not much unfortunately. i spend a lot of time on youtube but i am trying to find a way to watch season 7 of drag race. i've never watched the show before but i'm aware of trixie mattel and katya so i wanted to watch their season. as i mentioned earlier, i am obsessed with the fall of the house of usher on netflix but i am forcing myself to hold off before watching it again.

favourite books suzanne collins' the hunger games series, neil gaiman's american gods, silvia moreno-garcia's mexican gothic, ransom riggs' miss peregrine's peculiar children series (have not finished yet)

what do i like to read i like poetry a lot (though i sometimes struggle to understand it), as well as mythology, all types. i also like fantasy and dystopia and one of my favourite series is the hunger games series by suzanne collins. i am trying to expand my reading horizons, since i read a lot of ya fantasy when i was younger.

Miscellaneous thoughts about CGI MOTU (in no particular order)

Beware spoilers under the cut!

I really liked the way they recontextualized some of the pieces of previous continuities! “Modulok” being a game with non-standard use of arms and legs was a really clever way of calling back to the character, and I thought it was neat that Colossor was a creature the original Orko defeated.

I thought that from a meta perspective it was funny that Cringer and Duncan had pretty much switched personalities, with Cringer being the battle-ready, mature Dad Friend™ and Duncan being the walking ball of anxiety. I dunno if that was intentional or not, but I still got a chuckle out of it.

Krass my beloved. I’ve always liked Ram Man as a character, but he’s never been in my list of favorites until now. Ram Ma’am is just such a fun character and I’ll probably be able to properly explain why I enjoy her so much after I’ve thought about it for a while but for now all I can say is Ram Ma’am good please give me more.

I’m glad that there were 10 episodes for the first season instead of 5 like Revelation - I liked Revelation, but having such a short amount of time to move your plot forward means that character moments and plot twists can’t really be touched upon as much. Those extra 5 episodes really helped me feel more connected with the characters, even if it still felt like a few moments were rushed.

Where’s Marlena. Mattel where is Marlena. What did you do with my astronaut mom Mattel. Mattel she better be in the next season.

I really hope we get to know more about King Grayskull and his allies  - a couple things have been mentioned, but nothing major, and given how we literally have a character who knew the guy (or a legacy recording of the character, at least) it would be neat to have a flashback episode like we had in the 200X series.

The transformation sequences for Evil-Lyn, Trapjaw, and Beastman were absolutely terrifying and I have no idea how they were allowed in this show for children. Given how Tuvar and Baddrah both show up I am very terrified at the thought of their potential transformation sequence. Mattel please don’t scare the small children and also me.

Ork-0 my beloved but also HOLY FLIP there is so much to his character and I feel like they’ve barely scratched the surface. What was the original Orko like, given how the Eldress said he never had a “true heart?” Is it legitimately just a legacy recording scenario or was there soul magic involved because it seemed like he was doing magic in the last episode (the clothes summoning and the teleportation)? Why did he have a legacy recording in the first place? Are we going to get a flashback episode for how the original helped all the Trollans ascend and what happened to him?

SPEAKING OF TROLLA if I had a nickel for every time a He-Man series released in 2021 had a sublot where the characters go to Trolla and realize there’s nobody there I would have two nickels and I would have preferred it to be 0 nickels thank you very much. What does ascending mean? Are they dead? Are they in another dimension? Why was this continuity’s Trolla in Eternia? Are we ever going to see any Trollans?

Overall I really liked it! It’s not one of my favorite series, but it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Outside of one or two cases where a joke didn’t click, the humor was really spot on and I like the overarching story they’re going for. The characters are all really great, even if it is still a little weird seeing them so drastically different, and I’m excited to see where the show goes from here (and hopefully we’ll get to see more Trollans please Mattel I just want to see them again).

mattel. hey. mattel listen to me. i'm honestly surprised you haven't been trying to take over this new mermaid market yet but before you try shit, i've got a different proposal to make: knights. you can cater to both tomboys, and kids who will grow up to realize they're either lesbians or trans, like you did with darling charming. in fact, they should have the exact same vibe as darling charming. and the boy dolls shouldn't be knights. it's very important to me that the boys aren't knights, actually. we've had enough hypermasculine jocks in doll lines, and there's a reason why omg boys are some of the only ones able to stand on their own. the boy dolls should be based on medieval ladies of the court. don't set it at a high school either, the genre's oversaturated, just let a bunch of knight girls run around the woods is what i'm saying. also you should parody medieval romances, i'm thinking about like, a running joke being that one of the main girls, who should be an archer, and her love interest, a nurse, constantly being convinced they've accidentally consumed a love potion. or the main girl and her "love interest" (who is her love interest in the way that daring charming is apple white's love interest, if you know what i'm saying) refusing to date because that'd only work if one of them was married to someone else so they'd have a "real" courtly romance. or one of the other main girls who is associated with green and foxes and pentacles disappearing every christmas season and coming back covered in cartoonish kiss marks. there should also be jokes about beheadings tied to that last one. also there should be lesbians come on mattel you've already given us apple and darling, it's (partially) not your fault disney decided to kill ever after high before you could follow through with that plot. you can use having canon gay people to make yourself look better than mga too bc they keep baiting us. also now that i think about it i'm just asking for ever after high but less deeply fucked up and everyone is darling charming. i'm not saying ever after high was bad or anything i just think that there needs to be a way to majorly differentiate the two so disney doesn't decide that decendants needs to be a major force in the toy industry again. also eah was so good i don't think it could ever be replicated. that being said, this line should have the exact same aesthetic but with more diversity. also you can literally reuse the molds bc god knows mga has been doing the exact same thing with that dream ella castle. mattel please give me my knight line i'm begging you.

You, Hoseok, Jungkook and Nayeon stood outside the door leading to the basement of you and Hoseok’s shared house. Anxiety washed over your being and clung to you like a wet blanket. You couldn’t shake the fear that something bad was going to happen. Standing in the back of everything gave you a better view of everyone. Jungkook was dressed in all black (with the exception of his pink bunny slippers on his feet), Hoseok dressed in his pajamas and Nayeon dressed comfortably in an oversized shirt and joggers.

The impromptu “seance” that was about to be performed in the basement interrupted everyone. Nayeon and Hoseok who were in the middle of doing sheet masks and you in the kitchen pouring up refills of wine for everyone while Jungkook had disappeared moments before only to return with a ouija board.

Now here you were Jungkook with the ouija board tucked under one arm and his hand on the door knob waiting for everyone’s approval to open the door.

“Jungkook, why are we doing this?” Nayeon asked.

“Why not? Y/n and Hoseok say their house is haunted. What better time to investigate than at a slumber party with their friends? Especially during spooky season? The more the merrier!” He smiled.

“Our house isn’t haunted. Ghosts don’t exist, you clown. It’s probably old water pipes or some shit making all those weird noises.” You grumbled.

“Water pipes? Okay what about all the moaning Hoseok heard? Or the last time Nayeon was here and someone wrote in her lipstick on the bathroom mirror while she was showering?” Jungkook questioned. You sighed loudly to make a point on how exhausted you were with the back and forth discourse between you and Jungkook on whether or not the house was haunted.

“I feel like you want our house to be haunted.” you said.

“No but if it is you both need to get the hell out of dodge before shit starts getting real. The lipstick on the mirror would’ve been enough to send me flying out the house.”

“Same and I normally stay out of this whole ghost discussion but.. that’s really odd Y/n you can’t even lie.” Nayeon stated. You glanced over at Hoseok who was turned away from you, picking at the hem of his shirt. You and Hoseok had been living in your current home for three months and about two weeks into your stay things started getting extremely weird. From you finding him standing out on the balcony in the pouring rain, the weird arts and crafts figurines he would make and that one time you found him ready to take a bite out of a raw steak out the fridge.

But he passed that last one off as him being drunk.

You didn’t believe in ghosts or demons or really too much supernatural stuff. But the strange behaviors that Hoseok had been portraying alarmed you. You weren’t quite sure what exactly was going on. You hadn’t seen him smile in weeks and it was worrying.

“Fuck it. If we’re doing this can we go on and do it because I really wanna get back to my wine.” you whined. Jungkook opened the door, reaching for the light switch. Only to flick it and realize the light in the basement wasn’t working.

“How much weirder could this shit get.” you heard Jungkook mumble under his breath, fumbling in his pocket for his phone. You all slowly stepped down the stairs. Taking a look around the basement it was fairly empty except a pair of skis and other miscellaneous belongings split between you both.

Jungkook cleared a spot in the middle of the floor. The only light was from the small basement windows lining the walls.

“Do you not owe any candles or a lantern?” Jungkook asked.

“Hoseok has some of those boring non scented ones in the kitchen cabinet above the stove.” You glanced over at Nayeon who quickly started shaking her head and waving her hands.

“No. Hell no. Don’t make me go up there.”

“Nayeon please.”

“What if I run up there and then the spooky ghost haunting you gets me ?”

“It won’t.”

“How do you know?”

“I don’t. But like we haven’t been harmed yet.”

She stomped her feet. “If something happens I’m haunting everyone here.” Nayeon dashed up the steps. Hearing a little bit of shuffling before she came back carrying as many candles as she could.

“You’re lucky I remembered the lighter while I was up there because that trip wasn’t happening again.” You lit all of the candles before settling and sitting down. Hoseok, blank faced had already sat down as soon as you all made it down the steps scooted closer to you all.

“Alright let’s get it.” Jungkook took the ouija board out of its box, putting the planchette on the board. You eyes the box.

“A fucking ouija from mattel is supposed to potentially tell us if this house is haunted?” You questioned.

“Where did you get this from? Target?” Nayeon asked.

Jungkook sighed, scratching at the sides of his hair.

“And if I did? Where else would I get it from? Amazon? Jeff Bezos isn’t seeing a dime of my Starbucks checks” He scoffed “look I'm sure you know how this whole ouija thing is supposed to go. Just like in the movies two fingers on the planchette. We say hello and don’t finish until we say goodbye. No moving the planchette for fun. I will have a heart attack and Jeon Jungkook will no longer exist. Alright?” Jungkook stated. You and Nayeon nodded.

Placing your two fingers on the planchette, followed by everyone else. So it began.

“Hello. Hi spirits we have questions.” Jungkook said, looking around the room. Nayeon hit his arm. Jungkook gave a quizzical look.

“Is that really how you’re gonna ask the higher powers?” she asked.

“I don’t know how the fuck else to address them. Hi spirits. Are you there?” he questioned. You looked around the room, watching your friends facial expressions. The mild drunk feeling that was over you quickly made you sober up as the air seemed to get colder around you.

The planchette slowly started moving towards the top left corner, the small glass hovering above the “yes”.

“Before we continue. Is anyone fucking with me right now?” Jungkook mumbled.

“No I swear I’m not.” Nayeon stated.

“No.” You all looked at Hoseok who was staring at the board blank, as if he wasn’t looking at anything in the first place.

“I think he’s drunk. Maybe he had too much wine. You know he’s a lightweight.” Nayeon cracked, attempting to lighten the mood.

Hoseok lacked the permanent blush he seemed to have when he did drink too much. But the glossy look to his eyes still remained. You shrugged it off but the look he had was eerily similar to the one he had on the night you found him on the balcony.

“Ask another question, Jungkook.” you said.

“Okay umh. Let’s just get to it. Are there any spirits lingering in this house?” The temperature dropped, causing a slight shiver to escape Nayeon. The planchette jerked back and circled back around to “yes”.

“I’m gonna be sick.” Nayeon whispered. “Jungkook are you fucking with us?”

“What? No! I swear to the heavens I wouldn’t fuck with you guys on something like this! I’m not moving it.” he said, both sets of eyes laid on you.

“Now y’all both know good and well I don’t even believe in this shit why would I fuck with you with this?” You said, borderline offended at them.

“Because that’s what non believers always do.” Jungkook stated.

“I’m a non believer not an asshole. Keep asking it questions.” you grumbled.

Jungkook rolled his eyes. “Is there anything you want from this house?” The planchette pushed back, before slowly moving back to yes. You started sweating and the basement getting chillier by the second didn’t help as you tried to resist the full body chill that threatened to shake through you.

“What do you want?” The words left your mouth before you could stop them. The planchette moved slow once again, going from letter to letter. You, Nayeon and Jungkook looked on.

H-O-S-E-O-K

You heard Nayeon gasp from the side of you. While your jaw just parted. Jungkook froze in his spot, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple.

“I don’t think I want to play this anymore.” Your eyes shot up to Hoseok, who looked at Jungkook with a wicked grin on his face.

“Uh Hobi. We can wrap up. But can you stop looking at me like that?” Jungkook said, a shake to his words.

Nayeon stared Hoseok down. “Something’s not right here.”

“What’s the matter, Nayeon? Aren’t we all playing a game?” Hoseok turned in her direction.

“Jungkook, wrap this shit up now.” You instructed, keeping your eyes on Hoseok. 

Before Jungkook could open his mouth, he suddenly flung backwards into the wall. The candles went out.

“I said I didn’t want to play anymore.” through the soft moonlight filtering through the windows you could see Hoseok stand up. You and Nayeon shuffled back against the wall. A few feet away from where Jungkook laid unconscious. Nayeon shuffled with her phone, the screen light illuminating her features. You could see the tears streaking her cheeks. The flashlight turned on shining on Hoseok; his soft brown eyes were now cold and empty, a black void.

“What the fuck are you?” Nayeon yelled, struggling to keep her cool.

“What do you think I am?” He questioned, stalking towards you.

“Stay the fuck away from us! I mean it!” You shouted. The fear you felt ran through your veins icy and cold. Making you want to curl up and wish the situation away.

Hoseok reached in his pocket, pulling out a small switchblade.

“I think it’s time to slice, I’m sorry I mean spice things up.”

You threw yourself in front of Nayeon, remaining firm despite her protests asking you to move.

“Aw isn’t this cute? You want to protect your friend.” Hoseok’s lips curved into his signature heart shaped smile. One that normally wanted your heart, filled you with even more dread than possible. That smile didn’t belong to him. It. Whatever was in your best friend.

Hoseok rolled his eyes, the smile dropping from his face as quick as it showed up. “I don’t even remember the last time I had friends.” He walked towards you and Nayeon, who’s hands gripped your shoulders. Preparing for the worst you closed your eyes.

Suddenly another voice filled the basement. You opened your eyes, there stood Jungkook your knight in shining armor. Well more like knight in plaid pajamas but attire was besides the point. You watched as Jungkook held his hands up muttering words in foreign language as Hoseok froze rigid, slowly lifting off the ground. The switchblade falling from his grip. A dark purple smoke escaped his mouth before shattering one of the glass windows. Hoseok’s body slumped to the ground and Jungkook dropped to his knees.

You got up running to Hoseok to check him out. Holding a finger up under his nose to feel soft air leave him. You draped yourself over him as he slowly stirred.

“Jesus fucking Christ, Jung Hoseok never in your life get possessed by a demon again. I’ve never been more fucking scared before.”

Hoseok looked at you confused as he sat up, rubbing at his head.

“I don’t even know what’s going on. Last thing I remember was trying to figure out where to hang my jackets in my closet.” He said. That must mean he was possessed for a while. You frowned at the thought.

Jungkook and Nayeon walked over to you. Jungkook wiping his bloody nose on the back of his sleeve.

“You mind sharing where you learned that neat little trick?” You asked.

“My grandfather is a priest. Stuff like that kinda runs in the family.” Jungkook tilted his head back pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Am I going to be fine?” Hoseok asked, fear laced in his words.

“Yeah you might just not remember the past few months. But that demon is gone. Sent back to where the foul bastard came from.” Jungkook said.

“I am literally never spending the night here ever again. Not even for a million dollars.” Nayeon said.

“That’s a lie you’ll be back.” You chuckled.

“Make it two and maybe I will.” She smiled.

My thoughts on Folklore

This is about to be a long ass Taylor Swift post, so strap in for the ride.

I along with many others were going about their business (looking at Adam Driver gifs) before my phone alerted me to the notification that Taylor Swift was releasing her eighth studio album Folklore the very next day. Chaos everywhere, my sleep schedule went out the window as I went into the Swifties tag to see how everyone else was dealing with this news. So I eagerly awaited 2PM (Australian time) for the album to drop and after a few listens (sleep got the better of me through my first listen due to my previous sleep schedule), I eventually picked out some album highlights.

The 1 - I love how freely she’s cussing on the album (a point that will be reitriated throughout), and I know Gossip tabloids and casuals will be shooketh because they’d think Taylor & Mr. Alwyn have ‘broken up’ due to Taylor’s personable lyrics but this gave me Better Man vibes. Remember when the Bridge said ‘You might have bern The One if you were a Better Man’ and this is basically that without the angsty fire.

Cardigan - I LOVE how Alternative Folk fits Taylor’s voice, it sounds like she’s telling us a story and we are entrapsed by her. It also works perfectly with the love triangle songs, which I had to understand a bit through a few listens.

The Last Great American Dynasty - The moment I saw this track, I knew it would be epic. I pictured her taking the piss out of the Trump family, but what I got was an awesome song about the woman who owned Taylor’s Rhode Island house and the antics she got up to. I love the descriptors she used when describing the weddings and the party’s Rebekah & Bill had and especially the bridge of antics Rebekah got up to later in her time. The ‘And then it was bought by me.’ Part of the bridge, I love a good twist!

Exile - OH MY LORD. When I saw Skinny Love Bon Iver on this album, I knew this would be something and low and behold it was. The concept of the man in exile in her intro caught my attention but seeing it up close and personal was amazing. The vocals interlaced with each other was perfection, especially as Taylor responds to Bon Iver. I really connected it to the struggles of Seth Rollins in the latter half of 2019, how he seemed to be exiled from the WWE, how his initial opponent Kevin Owens was having his flaws disregarded to drag Seth down, the ‘Always Keep Fighting’ shirt that he wore (raising money for mental health chairties) adding insult to injury for Seth, who had even briefly deactivated his twitter to clear his headspace following attacks/death threats from a fellow wrestler’s fan base. ‘I gave you every sign’ rings true here, the man was struggling and no one seemed to care.

My Tears Ricochet - My WWE ass was happy to see another Wrestler reference after The Man. So this was an interesting look, but I got another story that intrigued me, a man having been involved in a tumultous connection with the songs narrator showing up to her funeral to save face. Listeners drew parraells with the recent Masters drbarkle with Scott Borchetta, head of Big Machine Records with whom Taylor was once signed to, and I have to say it’s a good perspective to take.

Mirrorball - This one took a while but I ended up loving the fact she could sing from a Mirrorball’s perspective and still make an epic song. I loved the part about always fitting in with the crowd because at functions/discos where mirrorballs are used, the lights will change to fit the mood and being a reflective surface, Mirrorballs will reflect the colour change.

Seven - This was a nice ditty about a past friend Taylor once had. I really loved the line ‘Please picture me in the weeds before I learned Civility’ it gives a more sophisticated parraell to Never Grow Up.

August - This is the second in the love triangle songs, and I loved the storytelling aspect as Taylor paints the picture of an affair that Summer Nights would quake in it’s boots if it heard about it. She sweeps up the adience in the Mistresses POV, showcasing the sweetness of love and the sting of toxcisity.

This is me trying - Where are those who said Taylor Swift plays the victim in her songs? Because this is for them. Taylor states in this her regrets of wasted potential, broken relationships etc. at the end of the day no matter how many awards she has, records she breaks, or money she possesses, Taylor Alison Swift is a human being, and we should give her boundries to grow and flourish.

Illicit Affairs - This track title also intrigued me, and whilst it does what the title says, and discusses the highs and lows of the secret passions of mismatched lovers, the second verse & bridge stood out to me the most. The way Taylor’s voice went up on him in the line ‘Leave the perfume on the shelf that you picked out just for him.’ Drew my attention as she later did the same thing on the word high, this had to mean something. And given that we don’t know the narrators gender, this could also be a song about a closeted gay man who’s found love but is struggling to accept this relationship. Whereas the bridge reminded me a lot of the Adam & Hannah breakup in Season 4 of Girls in the episode Sit In where Hannah denounces Adam’s nickname of kid, which he had called her by since the first season, with the episode before that showing her heartbroken that Adam has gotten a new girlfriend behind her back and thus turns into a mess locked in her apartment for a day and two nights. it was a heartbreaking part of the show, one that shifted it into a new era for better or for worse, and the entirety of this reasonated with me.

Invisible String - Around this point was where melotonin kicked in for me on my first listen, so I’ve heard this less than the other songs, but I love how it discusses her relationship with Joe & how for better or for worse, he is hers. It continued the theme with them on Lover of not having a great picturesque love, but having ups and downs like any couple.

Mad Woman - The calmer sister of The Man, she won’t throw big production and actions around, she can take you down with words alone. The track stings brutally as Taylor takes down sexism as it exists in our world today, and even sadly paints a visual of how it must have been for women back in the day fighting for equal rights. ‘Does a scorpion sting when fighging back?’ Line was annother connection, as I was reminded of Vanessa Ives from Penny Dreadful and how the animal symbology that stuck with her was a scorpion, used to great effect in the Season 2 finale in a confrontation with Lucifer’s makeshift doll of her. The chorus line ‘And you’ll poke the bear till her claws come out, and you’ll find something to wrap your noose around’ stuck with me on my listens, and really shows how men will strike and then run away saying ‘it’s a joke, she’s hysterical’ etc. the part about women loving to hunt witches also reminded me of a Doctor Who episode called ‘The Witchers’ and also reminded some listeners of how Demi Lovato took Scooter Braun’s side in the Licencing debarkle, in fact in the first part of the bridge, the song also has a double meaning. It’s also about the state of affairs following Taylor’s songs being stolen from her. The part in the bridge about the wives knowing about their Spinster husbands having affairs and not wanting to show their anger for fear of being outcast like the titular woman is angsty but so lyrically genius.

Epiphany - I had to listen to this a couple of times but once I realised what it was about, I was in shock. This is about her Grandfather Dean who she mentioned in the intro who fought in a war. The song paints the war setting with the helmet, the flesh wound and the rifle within the first few words, and I especially loved the line ‘And some things we don’t speak of.’ because it talked about how some soldiers develop PTSD from their experiences, yet don’t want to discuss them for fear of being perceived as weak. Also the outro beat sounds like a radar scanning for a plane, and the beat of the drum sounds like bombs exploding, really adds to the War theme.

Betty - This is the final track in the love triangle story as it tells the story of James as he fights to earn back Betty’s love after he has an affair with Inez. The eventual pitfalls of Illicit Affairs have come for Inez which causes her to tell Betty of their affair, which is a nice link. This songs gives a classic Greese/Christine/Cheesy 80s Film meets Trixie Mattel vibe which I loved. I also loved the callbacks to August & Cardigan, along with the casual F bomb droppings.

Peace - This is another sweet love song for Joe which calls back to Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street & Dancing With Our Hands Tied as Taylor struggles with the connection she has established with Joe, and contemplates escaping, but eventually knows she’ll stay. How the entire world will be on them, but she’ll be by his side through it all. Similar to Invisible String but different all at once and a perfect penultimate track to lead to the last song.

Hoax - The sweetness brings us to the double edged sword of a closing track. Giving a shattering realisation that love can be tricky at times, the references to Call It What You Want ‘I am ash from your fire’, The Archer ‘You know the hero died so what’s the movie for?’ & ... So It Goes ‘You knew you won so what’s the point of keeping score’. Taylor loves Joe so much that when they fight it’s as painful as when she became Pop Culture Enemy #1 back in 2016. But no matter what, she says herself ‘Don’t want no other shade of blue but you. No other sadness in this world would do’ relationships are always painful, there is no happy endings all round, but there is still love to be found.

All in all this is an incredible album & @taylorswift you have created magic and I hope you know that myself & all the Swifties are so proud of you for flexing your writing skill and crafting such a stunning album.

Okay, you know how I posted a thing yesterday talking about “Season 25″ of TTTE?

It got worse.

Is everyone cool now? Good. Let’s talk about this. Even if you don’t want to read the rant under the handy “Keep Reading,” please reblog this post and share this article with every fan of the show you are in contact with. With what was revealed, it is almost guaranteed that Thomas will not see 100 if something doesn’t change for the better and soon.

Apologies for the length of the following rant, but I think this all needs to be addressed. If you make it through, I encourage you to reblog and add anything I missed. From what I’ve seen, the man who spoke doesn’t know anything about Thomas or what makes it tick.

To set the stage, this was a conference call arranged to talk about the new series. This was in the form of an interview with a Mr. Campbell Bryer, who will be one of the show’s directors on Nelvana’s side. While we did not get any new visuals, we got a mountain of information. And, once I read through it, I was glad we didn’t get any visuals.

First off, let’s make the tone of the show clear. This is a reboot, plain and simple. The stories will be more about the engines playing than doing their jobs. There will be little to no railway realism whatsoever, even less than the recent seasons have been showing. From what I am understanding, the engines will have little to no responsibilities and will be free to do whatever they choose.

I also want to mention how much of the heritage they are intentionally stripping away. As we all know, Sodor is located off the coast of England, Barrow-in-Furness specifically. However, in this new iteration of the show, Sodor’s location will not be mentioned, and characters who speak will likely not have an English accent. This is a grave insult to the history of this series, which started in England. EVERYTHING about Sodor and its history has been incorporated into British history. Even the name “Sodor” comes from a British bishop!

Not only does this remove the history, but it also cuts off an essential aspect of the engines themselves. A lot of the original and most popular engines are BRITISH locomotives. As an example, Gordon is an A0, the prototype to the A 1/3. His only surviving sibling, Flying Scotsman, was the first engine recorded at 100 mph. To strip the island’s location is to deny the heritage of the characters we know and love.

While we’re on the subject of characters, the line up of characters is looking likely to change. The article mentions that we are likely to see more focus on the childlike characters, like Thomas and Percy, and even less focus than currently on older, more mature engines. Who does this rule out? I can think of three engines on the standard gauge lines right now.

Edward - Edward is the classic example of the mentor character. In most of the stories and episodes he is featured in, he approaches things with a level head and a fair bit of logic. He will likely completely disappear.

Duck - Duck typically thinks things through logically, like Edward, though he gets into more scrapes than the blue tender engine. It’s safe to say that Duck will be relegated to cameo appearances if he doesn’t disappear altogether.

Henry - Henry’s been on thin ice for a while now. While he’s not typically portrayed as wise, he could be considered the more level headed of the Tender Trio of Henry, Gordon, and James. With this, Henry has a real chance of never being seen again.

With this revelation, I have to wonder about the Skarloey Railway’s fate, where many of the engines are more on the mature side. I have a feeling that any railway that is not standard gauge will also disappear.

This brings us to another aspect of Sundrian life. What about the humans? The short answer is that they will become nonexistent. To start, the engines will be moving without any assistance of crews. This completely removes an aspect that has been seen throughout the show’s run, even if the existence of an engine’s crew was downplayed in certain eras. In general, humans will not have a forward role, meaning we also lose out on essential functions such as stationmaster, guard, and signalman.

The only exception is, of course, Sir Topham Hatt. As we currently know him, he is the leader of the railway and a father figure to the engines on Sodor, doling out praise and punishment as needed. However, in this new series, Sir Topham Hatt is relegated to the role of a joke, despite supposedly still being in charge. The article describes him as “really flustered and all over the place,” nothing like what we would expect.

With the mature engines leaving and Sir Topham Hatt reduced to an idiot, who will take charge of the engines and fill in a father figure’s role? Well, that would fall to Gordon, of course!

No, I’m serious. Stop laughing.

Gordon will be the father figure the other engines look up to. Gordon, the bully. Gordon, the snob. Gordon, the engine with one of the shortest fuses. Gordon, the engine that refuses to do work outside of what he prefers. Gordon, the engine who is known to harass engines (namely Henry) who are having problems. Gordon, an engine who is not known for being a role model, will be the father figure in this reboot.

One of the most significant causes of controversy in the latest few seasons of the show was the engines’ movement. While this was disorienting, the article promises that it will look tame compared to the reboot. We have been promised that not only will the engines twist and move similar to how they currently do, but those movements will be even more exaggerated than before. The engines will also be able to jump. Yes, you heard that right. Ant this is not described as small hops, no. The article mentions explicitly the engines turning while jumping. The only minuscule relief is the promise that the engines will not “use [their] wheels as hands.”

While those are the primary concerns, there’s more stake here. To start, this reboot will not have a narrator. Thomas’s stories began as bedtime stories to children and have had a storyteller in some shape or form throughout the show’s run. The series will also lean heavily on action and fun to convey stories, instead of the more action-and-consequence type of storytelling we see in the Railway Series and early seasons.

Probably the thing that is the most unforgivable to me is that they think this monstrosity will appeal to a “broader audience.” They say this as if older fans of the show haven’t been telling them for years what has or hasn’t been working well. We have posted and shared our concerns and they have either tossed them aside or did not take them into serious consideration. This is the worst I have ever seen Thomas, and this is saying something, considering the engines bouncing in the last couple of seasons made me feel PHYSICALLY ILL.

We can’t let this continue. If you have any method of contacting Mattel, utilize it. If you know someone who works at Mattel or Nelvana who might have any say in this, talk to them. Don’t directly attack, but bring up your concerns in a calm, rational manner and be willing to listen. If this new format does make it to air, don’t watch it, don’t buy any merchandise, and don’t go to Day Out With Thomas so Mattel can see just how much we are displeased with them. If this is the end for Thomas and the North Western Railway, we can at least say that we did just about everything we could.

And not only are we losing a beloved franchise, but we may also lose rail travel as we know it. I can’t speak for everyone, but I can easily look back and say that Thomas was my gateway into a lifelong love of rail transportation, especially steam engines. A lot of heritage railways rely on the Day Out With Thomas events to bring in visitors. If this franchise fails, they will eventually lose out on a significant amount of revenue. This will likely significantly hurt them and, while railways like Strasburg in Pennsylvania might be able to handle it, others may be forced to close down.

All I can say now is that it saddens me to see what has happened to the show that started a lifelong love of rail travel. I have to wonder what the Awdrys and Britt Alcroft have to say about this...

*  FRIDAY, APRIL 24th, 2020. —— festivities will start off a little on the simpler side, but it’ll grow much larger, & much more grandiose, as the weekend continues ! at 8pm cst ( 9pm est / 6pm pst ) everyone is invited to a block party hosted by the families living at the cul-de-sac ( the pending families are listed below ! ) at the end of wisteria court. it’ll be a texas barbecue of sorts, with edna applebaum of edna’s kitchen making an appearance with her crew to whip up her famous chicken ‘n waffles special. she’s also offering a special menu including korean-style barbecued beef, pork baby back ribs slathered in a homemade spicy barbecue sauce, potato salad, bratwursts with stone ground mustard, & grilled chicken atop a salad of local greens donated by sweet pea food market. the finest of desserts ( both health-conscious & not ) will be provided by edna herself, & spill ! tea shop & café —— specifically edna’s deliciously baked all-american mini apple pies with house-made vanilla ice cream, & spill’s gluten free / vegan cupcakes topped with aesthetically pleasant edible flowers. additionally, mexican cuisine will be provided by de la garza catering to round out the menu ! alcohol is permitted at the block party / barbecue, but only if you bring your own. that said, every household is asked to contribute a cooler loaded with beer, wine coolers, & whatever else they’d like to drink throughout the night ! once everyone is done, a clean-up crew will break things down, & start preparing for saturday’s festivities ! 

*  SATURDAY, APRIL 25th, 2020. —— continuing on from the night prior, edna’s generous enough to offer discounts on what she likes to call her “hangover healin’ breakfast.” however, if you’re not super hungry in the morning, spill ! tea shop & café is offering discounts on beverages, baked goods, & teas ; even announcing a specialty blend they made specifically for the flower festival ! speaking of which, the van winkle family’s flowers will be used as decor for almost everything —— pastel colors predominantly the theme this year ! then, later in the evening, everyone who is 18 & older is invited to kiss & tell bar + lounge at 8pm cst ( 9pm est / 6pm pst ) for a drag show ( including special guests from various seasons rupaul’s drag race, specifically alyssa edwards, trixie mattel, plastique tiara, kennedy davenport, & asia o’hara ! ) filled with local queens & entertainers, & throughout the drag performances, artists from gm entertainment will take the stage for début performances ( & the residents —— minus the gale-mcvey family —— aren’t aware of this, but delilah blair [ our kacey musgraves / taylor swift - based pop act signed to gm entertainment ] will make a special appearance to perform a limited set of her hits + a duet with trixie mattel ) ! if your muse is a musician & would like to take this opportunity to perform at the club’s concert, message the main & we’ll make it happen somehow —— we’d love as many of you to be involved as possible ! festivities at kiss & tell will conclude around midnight, but right after, there’ll be an after-party hosted by those who live in wisteria court’s esteemed cul-de-sac ( which, in my mind, are the coleman-pierce family, the howell-glenn family, & the gale-mcvey family, but if your opinions differ, let me know ! ) that’ll go all night long if you want it to, so make sure to pack lots of condoms !

*  SUNDAY, APRIL 26th, 2020. —— ah, sunday ! a day of rest, right ? well, SORT OF ! dorothy’s hideaway is closing its doors to the public, but are allowing the residents of wisteria court to enter their facility exclusively for a discounted price, & everyone who had a long weekend of partying may want to take this opportunity to soak in the hot springs, stew in the saunas, rejuvenate in the bathhouse, or book a massage to fully unwind ! another “treat” for those interested, that isn’t really public knowledge, is an orgy of sorts being held in the spa’s bathhouse around 6pm cst ( 8pm est / 4pm pst ) ! everyone will be together in one place, so who knows what’ll end up happening. i guess we’ll just have to wait & see !

My Ultimate Top 10 Favorite Drag Race Queens

#10 - Kameron Michaels: NGL, Kameron is partially on this list because I would fuck her in a heartbeat. I actually plan on making a list later of queens I would sleep with in and/or out of drag and you will definitely find Miss Michaels high on there. I’ve seen her live on the Werq the World tour and I 100% regret not getting Meet and Greet though I probably would’ve just drooled on her and made a fool of myself so maybe it’s better that I didn’t. It’s a known fact that Kameron is an incredible lip syncer (if you haven’t watched season 10, please do so just to see her in action because honestly, she’s one of the few good things about that season) and she did NOT disappoint. Her dancing was only beat out by Vanjie who you may or may not see later on this list. Kameron if you’re out there reading this (LOL, we all know she isn’t) and you ever feel like experimenting with an actual biological woman, hit me up!

#9 - Sharon Needles: And here we have another attractive man out of drag! Sharon was the OG underdog and while I’m not going to sit here and bash Phi Phi O’Hara because she’s actually talented AF (checkout her Harry Potter cosplay, it’s soooo good), Sharon definitely didn’t deserve all the shade thrown at her on season 4. Her drag aesthetic has always been equals parts spooky and equal parts fabulous, but she’s actually improved over the years and it’s made me love her even more. My favorite Sharon moment ever is during a “Queens Reading Mean Comments” video on WOWPresents’ Youtube channel where someone said they liked her old teeth better and she just goes, “Well my old teeth just looked ridiculous with my new lips!” Get ‘em, girl.

#8 - Jinkx Monsoon: I want Jinkx to be my mom. There, I said it. Also, if you don’t get that reference, get your shit together and subscribe to WOW Presents on Youtube you fucking bumpkin. Jinkx was the loveable weirdo on her season and received a lot of hate from her fellow queens but I loved her from the start. I have since forgiven Roxxxy Andrews for her cattiness because of her rudemption on All Stars 2 (insert her Read U Wrote U verse here) but nothing was more satisfying than watching Jinkx go from the underdog to America’s Next Drag Superstar. I don’t know what’s more iconic; her tendency to fall asleep at inopportune times, her laugh, or all the jokes about her being a full blown swamp witch. Either way, it will always be Monsoon season in my eyes.

#7 - Nina West: Hands down, the DEFINITION of Miss Congeniality! This choice was so obvious, I don’t even know why they took a vote. I think that even if they left it up to the fans, it would’ve been her. I fucking LOVE Nina. I’ve actually met her IRL and my first thoughts were 1: she’s HUGE (hello, she’s a six foot tall man in like 6 inch heels and I’m barely over five feet) and 2. she just radiates happiness! She is the only queen I’ve met that asked me my name (though shout out to Plastique Tiara for calling me gorgeous as if she’s not the most beautiful creature on the planet) and she didn’t make me feel like an idiot when I just stared at her adoringly and just word vomited “you’remyfavoriteiloveyousomuch”. Class act people!

#6 - Bianca del Rio: Do I even need an explanation for this one? Hands down, the undisputed winner of season 6, and that’s coming from a die-hard ***** fan (see entry #2). Did she wear the same silhouette 10+ times? Yes. Can she kind of be a bitch sometimes? Definitely. But is she the funniest fucking person alive? Probably! My love for Bianca is infinite but I still wouldn’t want her to read me, at least not in person. Actually, scratch that, I’ve seen her Twitter feed and getting read online is almost worse. I fucking love Hurricane Bianca and the sequel even though it’s one of those so-bad-it’s-good type of film series. I sadly missed her last tour because it was the same night as Sasha Velour’s Smoke & Mirrors show and as amazing as Sasha was, my heart was broken that I couldn’t go to both. But you better believe the next time she’s in town, I’m forking out lots of $$ for VIP and I may or may not faint at Bianca’s feet #noregrets

#5 - Vanessa Vanjie Matteo: Mother. Fucking. Vanjie. OKAY, I’ve met this bitch IRL and let me tell you, she is the cutest fucking thing. Like Nina, it shocked me how apparent it is that she’s a man (square jaw, hello?) but she can still paint for filth and look fishy AF even with her boyish features. Also, AMAZING performer! I waited 3 hours after the M&G for her to actually come on stage and perform only two songs (that’s a story for another day) but let me tell you, it was worth the fucking wait. I showered that bitch with Canadian monopoly money and I would’ve given her more if I wasn’t such a broke millennial. And to top the whole night off, I got woken up at 5 am to my friend screaming because Vanjie had reposted my photo in her story so I was essentially Instagram famous for all of like, a day. Thanks girl xo

#4 - Bendelacreme: I love me some Dela. This queen proved in both her regular season and All Stars that she is a force to be reckoned with. Season 6 wouldn’t have been the same without her and did I want to yell at Darienne Lake for being a bitch to her? Absolutely! (Gia Gunn pun intended) And I honestly think that if she hadn’t eliminated herself, she would’ve won AS3 (though if you read my #1 entry, I am 100% satisfied with who did win). She completely deserved her Miss Congeniality title, and while I see where the others AS3 queens were coming from when they suspected she was trying a little too hard to keep up that image, I did appreciate her trying to play the game with some class, because we don’t see that often on Drag Race. I also love her friendship with Jinkx and it’s definitely on my bucket list to see one of their shows one day. You know what they say, the Creme always rises to the top!

#3 - Brooke Lynn Hytes: Full disclosure, I’m Canadian but that’s not the only reason why I love Brooke (she is the Queen in the North though, and I’ll fight you if you say otherwise). This queen is fucking TALENTED! Season 11 would have failed without her, IMHO. She can design and sow a complete outfit, read people to filth, sort of sing (I still listen to Queens Everywhere daily, especially her verse), dance circles around ANYBODY, and lip sync like her mother fucking life depends on it. Did she, by the end of the season, forget that’s there’s more to a lip sync than being on pointe? Yes, absolutely. But that doesn’t change the fact that she is literal perfection and I think that’s why Ru gave Yvie the crown instead of her (though I love Yvie so don’t come for me). Brooke’s biggest downfall was the fact that she wasn’t relatable and I am 100% okay with that. Sometimes you just have to worship the unattainable. The only issue I have with Brooke is her and Vanjie not being officially together anymore because yes, I am one of those fans that ship queens together, especially queens that have actually dated. I will never get over #Branjie, just saying.

#2 - Adore Delano: "I'm a fucking Libra!" As soon as these words left her mouth, I knew I was in love with Adore Delano. Season 6 is by far my favorite season (spoiler alert if I decide to make a Top 10 Best Seasons list) and if it weren't for my #1 pick, she would 100% have the top spot. Hell, before I discovered WOW Presents, she WAS my #1 pick (read my next entry to understand what I mean). Adore is simultaneously adorable (pun intended) and fierce AF. She's beautiful, hilarious, and did I mention beautiful?! She is the reason I say "party" at inappropriate times. She is the reason I wish I was a Libra instead of a fucking Scorpio. She is the reason I insist everybody start their first Drag Race binge with season 6 because I know they’ll fall in love with her as much as I have. Adore, if you’re reading this, I fucking adore you.

#1 - Trixie Mattel & Katya Zamolodchikova: Of course these two are tied as my number one spot. Individually, these queens are fucking fierce and extremely talented (go download Trixie's country albums if you don't believe me), but together they are pure gold. If you've only ever watched their run on season 7, you probably don't understand why I love them so much, so do yourself a favor and go watch All Stars 2 & 3, as well as their web shows "UnHhhh", "The Trixie & Katya Show", and “Queens Who Like To Watch”. I can even give you a list of other stand alone videos of them to watch (ex. "Besties for Cash", "Fashion Photo Review", compilation videos of the pair in Palm Springs... I think you get the gist). Truth be told, I'm absolutely obsessed with these two, so much so that I may or may not have indulged in some online fan fiction about them from time to time...don’t judge me, okay?! I love a friends-turned-lovers love story, and I know I’m not the only one wishing #Trixya would happen IRL. I've also shelled out so much money to Trixie alone on her merch and makeup, and I'm waiting very impatiently for them to go on tour together so I can go full Futurama and just scream "take my money" as I buy the most VIP package they have. Trixie and Katya are the ultimate definition of All Stars and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.

Honey (Biblegirl-centric) - Nova2

AN: When the happiness of many people is your responsibility, getting sick just isn’t an option. Or, Biblegirl reunites with some old friends when she needs them most……Biblegirl had a kinda high fever at dragworld and this fic stems from that.

Aside from the fact they were going to miss Dragball, the plane ride was, surprisingly knowing Delta, pretty easy. That’s at least what Chris remarked as they checked into their hotel. Bible couldn’t quite tell. For her it had been rocky, and stuffy and hot. But then again, she’d felt pretty off the whole day. It had started as just as just a little bit of a sore throat, but that was normal for this time of year - pride season had just finished and the season 12 girls were off filming. This meant it was bible’s few months of being thrust into the spotlight while the big dogs were away. When she finally arrived in London though, Biblegirl felt so incredibly heavy, as if she could just collapse at any moment. She could barely find the strength to keep herself upright.

By morning, she felt so fatigued it seeped through her bones. Her throat was horribly sore and her nose was in a constant state of itchiness. She felt dizzy too, her mind detached from reality and she doesn’t feel she’s there. Weakly, she applied her makeup for the day.

“You ready love?” Chris asked, rubbing her back. “Can’t wait.” Biblegirl tried to seem as perky and excited as possible.

Bible felt her nose start to burn, her breath caught and she turned away in order to not get her boyfriend sick. The sneezes were ticklish, quiet, but harsh in a sickly kind of manner.

“Bless you” Chris said softly. “Thanks,” Bible tried to compose herself and clear her throat. “Are you okay?” Christ continued, concern obviously lacing his words. “M’fine. Just something in the air I guess.”

After a morning of trying to push through meeting her fans, Bible went backstage to prepare for her panel. She revelled in the soft pillowy cushions that were the couch, offering to ease her aching, heavy body. However, she was suddenly attacked by a headache, pulsating through her brain and ravaging everything in sight. She hissed in pain, scrunching up her face to brace it, a hand shooting up to try and ease it.

She knew now that she couldn’t just leave this thing alone. She was past the denial phase, she was sick and she knew it.

“Does anyone here have any ibuprofen?” she asked hoarsely.

The few queens in the room weren’t paying attention, Bible hadn’t been loud enough to grasp it. Biblegirl bit her tongue then, a lot of these queens were a lot more well known than herself and their days had most likely been more stressful than her own. Some sleep was probably enough.

“Come on Bible, get up” Derrick snapped, gesturing towards the 25 year old who still hadn’t gotten off the couch.

“Sorry, just super tired.” she mumbled.

“We all are” Derrick sighed and got on her way.

Once backstage is empty apart from her, Biblegirl let herself go. She let herself shiver, let her legs tremble and she let herself cough, cough so harshly that it bent her over and the sheer force of it was so much she had to curl up on the couch. She felt dreadful in every sense of the word. She couldn’t tell if she was too hot or too cold and couldn’t help the pathetic whimper that left her lips. She felt so dumb and so selfish for staying hidden away here backstage when there were people outside queuing to meet her.

The burning in her head ravaged on and spread towards her nose and she inhales deeply as the tickle spread like wildfire.
