I realized that I have yet to make a post about the strike tomorrow, so I figured I should get on that.

I will be striking tomorrow and all throughout the week of Feb 18-25th and you need to as well.

Some things I didn't cover personally last time that I wanted to cover here:

Why are we striking?

As most people are aware, there is an ethnic cleansing going on in Gaza. Now more than ever, it is important to draw attention to the large numbers of innocent citizens being murdered daily. We need to let companies and those in power know that this is unacceptable and we can't stand by while these atrocities are committed. This strike is mostly designed to disrupt things to bring the situation to the attention of those with the power to change something.

What can you do?

Stay home from work/school

Only go out for necessary reasons

Only purchase things that you need, and purchase with cash if you can.

Donate to charities, or buy from companies that actively support palestine

Specifically boycott companies that support Israel

Spread the word, let everyone know that you are on strike

(let me know if I missed anything)

What if I can't do (insert thing)?

People are asked to do what they can. That means that if one of the things you are supposed to do for the strike is impossible, then that is okay. For example, if taking the whole week off of work would lose your job, and you cannot afford to do that, then you are not breaking the strike by continuing to work.

What charities can I donate to?

There are a lot of charities you can donate to, and I will add more as I find more, but it is also encouraged that you buy esims for Gaza, which I will reblog more information on, as it is not something I am educated enough to talk about myself.

curly; pre-crash, curly treated blythe a lot like he treated jimmy. they had a somewhat good relationship though it was obvious that curly was becoming fearful of their deteriorating mental and emotional stability. after the crash, blythe rarely truly sees curly’s actual condition, and often hallucinates curly as he was prior to the crash. they eventually are able to see curly and what had happened to him.

blythe made drawings for curly and hung them up where he was at, and also becomes closed with curly after the crash, for some odd reason.

jimmy; blythe is the closest with jimmy out of all the other crew members and vise versa. it’s heavily implied that they’re childhood friends. blythe seems aware of how bad of a person jimmy is but doesn’t necessarily care due to being considered worse than jimmy in some ways.

jimmy often takes advantage of their mental state and convinces them that curly is fine which is why they’re so unsure of whether or not the crash happened until anya confirms it. eventually jmmy’s own codependency towards blythe causes him to isolate blythe from the other crew members completely. jimmy has negatively influenced blythe’s behavior which is why they’re a lot like him.

daisuke; blythe is seen the most sympathetic towards daiuske which is surprising considering that they’re a sociopath.

blythe views daisuke as somewhat of their younger, adoptive sibling. although emotions like empathy or sympathy for blythe are often fleeting and shallow they mostly express it towards daisuke and not really the other crew members.

swansea; swansea despises blythe. they’re like a smaller version of jimmy without getting everyone killed or assaulting anyone (at least not sexually since blythe isn’t like that). blythe never really noticed that swansea disliked them.

anya; blythe has a crush on anya. it isn’t as blatant as blythe’s crush on jimmy, but anya is at least aware of their crush and does not like blythe back. blythe often is very flirty towards anya and is very, unnervingly friendly. they get really upset when anya never reciprocates and often goes to jimmy to complain about it.

they often bug anya in a childlike manner. anya wasn’t afraid of them until after the crash, where she understood that blythe was, and always has been, unstable, destructive, and morally corrupt. afterwards anya tries to avoid blythe.

personality; blythe is immature and irresponsible. they’re prone to temper tantrums when they don’t get their way which range from childish to dangerously violent.

they’re pretty dismissive and nonchalant about anyone’s concerns. they’re impulsive and have a lack of regard for the safety of themselves and others. their view of death is unhealthy considering the fact that they don’t fear it at all and in fact lean towards it the second small things go wrong. their suicidal tendencies lessen after the crash but only because they don’t want to fail at it and not because they value life or fear death.

not only do they devalue their own life but they devalue the lives of most of the other crewmates, including curly, pre-crash and post-crash despite the fact that they do care for curly. they only really seem to care for jimmy and daisuke’s life. jimmy because they’re closest to him and daisuke for a more selfish reason, blythe feels as though caring for him gives them a chance to right their wrongs (specifically fix how little they cared for their actual family) back on earth.

most of the other crew members just view blythe as a smaller version of jimmy, just a lot less serious, more jokable and more prone to snapping than he is (surprisingly). only daisuke and jimmy view blythe as otherwise because in reality they really only share a few traits with jimmy.

blythe is very apathetic towards everyone, especially anya, after the crash. anya already avoided them before since they were a nuisance but when curly got injured their stability deteriorated completely and she understood just how dangerous blythe was. anya eventually avoided blythe out of fear. anya states to curly before the crash that there was something about blythe that was dark.

after the crash blythe is constantly hallucinating and even gives curly drawing made from their own blood. someone on the ship cleaned it up since it’s considered a biohazard though blythe was completely unaware of their actions. they act out more and isolate themselves from the other crew members. eventually almost everywhere was covered in their drawings (a lot like the drawings of serial killers or mentally disturbed children) so daisuke spoke to them about it only to be callously dismissed by blythe.

they have very morbid and dark humor and often draw things such as nooses and themselves as a corpse. curly wanted to take away their crayons before the crash…

Uhura's Song by Janet Kagan

This is a tie-in novel for Star Trek: The Original Series in which the Enterprise crew provide aid to a planet experiencing a plague that is not only on the verge of wiping them out, but is spreading to humans as well. Uhura, who has visited this world before and befriended another singer with whom she exchanged music, begins to suspect that some of their songs point to this being a colony. Discussing the matter is a strong cultural taboo though, to the point that no one will help them find their planet of origin, even though the original planet may have a cure for the disease, so it is up to the Enterprise crew to decode the songs, make contact, and find the cure.

I was so excited for this one because I love Uhura, but she's very underdeveloped in TOS, so I was really looking forward to getting to see more of her. And I got that! For the first 50 pages, and then she became a minor character.

The novel introduces an original character, Dr. Evan Wilson, who Starfleet has sent to take over as the Enterprise's Chief Medical Officer while Bones deals with the plague down on the planet. Which immediately struck me as odd since the Enterprise already has another doctor- Dr. M'Benga. But M'Benga's a pretty minor character, I think he's only in one or two episodes, so I thought it wouldn't have been too surprising for the author to have forgot about him and created this character instead. But then, all the way on page 317, it is mentioned that Dr. M'Benga is indeed on board the Enterprise- Kagan just made up this white woman to steal his job for no real reason.

Which is made so much worse by the fact that the reason Uhura becomes a minor character after the first 50 pages is right after they touch down on the original planet, Evan Wilson takes charge of explaining nonverbal cues, befriending the locals, understanding and explaining cultural differences, and even making the final connection between the two planets' songs that makes the locals understand what they are looking for. ALL of which should have been Uhura's role as Chief Communications Officer, as the musician who made the connection between the music and the disease in the first place, and as the one who has the most experience with the colony planet and its inhabitants.

I hate the term "Mary Sue," because 99% of the time, it is baselessly applied to any female character who is given any agency or characterization beyond that of a sexy lamp. But this doctor not only usurped the roles of two different black characters, but she's amazing at everything she does, she's mysterious, she's the best fighter and the best communicator, she's soooo ~quirky~, everybody loves her, she's even got Spock interested. I'm surprised she wasn't half Vulcan and didn't receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the Vulcan Order of Gallantry and the Tralfamadorian Order of Good Guyhood. And I honestly wouldn't have even cared that much if this wasn't supposed to be Uhura's fucking book. Every goddamn scene that Wilson was in that obviously should have been Uhura's made me angrier and angrier. I started the book mildly disappointed that we wouldn't get to see M'Benga and ended it fucking hating her.

Aside from that though, it was a mostly good book. The Wilson stuff is made all the more baffling by the fact the fact that the author was clearly making an active effort to be diverse and inclusive in the book. The vast majority of original characters are women, and most on the original Starfleet personnel are given ethnically diverse names. Plus with the inhabitants of the original planet living nomadically, there was a lot of discussion about """primitive""" societies not being lesser than. The discussion of trickster spirits across cultures specifically naming Coyote and Raven as the Earth examples make it clear that this was intended to specifically speak to the wisdom and value of Native American cultures. It's clunky and obviously written by a white woman, but she was clearly making an effort to uphold infinite diversity in infinite combinations as a major theme.

As for the actual substance of the story, featuring aliens denying their planet of origin does immediately call to mind Voyager's Distant Origin, and as a result, I was initially reading it as a metaphor for global warming. And while I do think that there's enough present in the text to still read it that way, as the book went on, the plague causing skin lesions that we aren't pursing a cure for because of a cultural taboo written in the 80s became obviously about AIDS. With either reading, the conclusion of Kirk telling the Sivaoans to get over themselves, grow up, and start saving lives works. But with the fact that the Sivaoans take clear inspiration from Native Americans, his little speech becomes infuriatingly paternalistic. Unfortunately though, that is pretty in keeping with The Original Series.

It was a fun and interesting book; I liked the story and what we got to see of both of the alien worlds and I loved what the first 50 pages did for Uhura. Unfortunately, the rest of it made me so mad that I can't recommend it. If I didn't dislike Strange New Worlds so much, I'd say I'd love to see them adapt it and actually give Uhura and M'Benga their due. I don't trust them to do that though. 2.5⭐️

1. Her human name is Emina Avdić. Avdić is just a common name from the area, though Emina was shamelessly stolen off of Šantić’s poem of the same name.

2. Relationship wise she is in the same spot as Srpska, which means everyone sort of finds her annoying except one person, but even then it’s a love hate relationship, that other person being Enis. She does love him but he might find her as a bit of a bother, I don’t think Herze would mind her much though.

3. Speaking of Enis, she’s more conservative and more religious than he is (tho that’s not a hard thing to beat, he’s basically secular)

4. She does look up to him, probably as a kind of islamic father figure (because uncle Turkey doesn’t care about her anymore) but i think she realized he isn’t as serious as she is about this whole Islam thing

5. She kind of dislikes everyone around her quietly, like they all know about it but she isn’t screaming it out as most of them are.

6. She shows that hate in little actions, or just by being straight up unpleasant

People going on about how they're representing this whole Greek thing are missing that that one anon had a pretty good point about how "cultural appropriation" rhetoric gets misused. People do really need to be more specific about what the issue is, or it very easily turns into basically just arguing for cultural segregation. I've seen that happen numerous times on this website over the years. I've seen people argue that it's appropriative to do something like *learn about* another culture or learn its language. I think it's really important for people to keep an eye on what are the actual issues with cultural appropriation (mostly about exploitation and colonialism) and not just the idea that cultural mixing is bad, or that being interested in a culture that isn't your own is bad. Because the truth is, whether you intend this or not, if you're just arguing that everyone should only keep to the culture of their ethnicity or their place of origin or both, then you're basically in agreement with white supremacists. It's not that cultures mixing is bad; most culture is a result of some mixture. It's when it's done in a way that's exploitative and/or disrespectful: like reducing sacred symbols like indigenous war bonnets to a fashion accessory, or incorporating the art of another culture into your own art without giving credit and without paying anyone from that culture who taught you or added to your work.

FTR, I don't think you can "appropriate" ancient mythologies. I think people are getting twisted around though because there is a genuine history of colonial exploitation of Greek artifacts by colonial powers to fill their museums, as with the Elgin marbles. I do think it's still a good idea to be properly informed about them, regardless, at the very least because those make for the more interesting retellings. For all that people (who IME, largely haven't read it, I'd love to hear if people who have read it disagree though) rag on Song of Achilles, I actually thought it was a pretty good example of a retelling because the author, who has an educational background in mythology, takes great pains to try to recreate the society and cultural norms of Greece at that time rather than sugarcoat it. Achilles may be even more of a jerk than he was in the original Iliad, tbh. It's telling to me that the author's other books that are less "shippy" don't have as negative of a reputation on here in that regard as Song of Achilles, despite being fairly similar, and it makes me wonder how much of that is because it's popular among "fujoshi fandom" so people just assume it MUST be shallow and fandomified, and I was super shocked at how much it really wasn't that at all. As well as I saw that a lot of people expecting something more like that were disappointed by all the period-accurate misogyny and so on.

Which brings me to another point: another reason I'm skeptical of a lot of this discourse is that it seems like often it's more of a high-culture, low-culture thing. A thing that is popular with M/M fanfic writers can't POSSIBLY be doing it right. A thing that is a popular video game or Tony-winning Broadway musical that is popular with the fandoms for those things, can't possibly be accurate. And I get that a lot of that is because a lot of populist things that took from Greek mythology have been inaccurate (Disney's Hercules, for instance) but if you're going to criticize the accuracy of something, I think it is worth engaging with the original work and what it actually does rather than just assuming It's Popular It Must Suck. It feels like a lot of this turns into lording that you were into it before X over others. And being aware that Tumblr Recommendations often do a poor job of actually giving you a good idea of what the work is really like.

As well as, of course, asking yourself - as we should with any sort of historical inaccuracy etc. - if the inaccuracy was deliberate or not. Sometimes people are not really telling that story in order to tell the most accurate version of something but to make a different kind of point, and so the changes might be deliberate. I would argue this is true with something like Hadestown.

That doesn't mean you can't still dislike it for that reason, of course. I know a lot of classical musicians who dislike the movie Amadeus for being so inaccurate about Mozart's and Salieri's lives. I like it despite that because I think the point it is trying to make is stronger for not sticking to the historical fact. I just wish more people did know the historical fact, though.

One would think the "Is it bad if I learn to cook Thai food?" thing was a strawman... but I've seen it in the wild far too many times.

Sure, but not in the sci-fi kind of way. I think it is absurd to think Earth is the only planet in the infinity of space that met the right conditions for life to develop. But I doubt these forms looks like... humanoid-green/grey skin beings or that they look anything as we know on Earth. I don't even know if there's any 'developed' (in human's terms) form of life, but definitely things that feed and live. (Once again, I doubt they come on Earth with super technology and such... if they do, I really hope they see their mistakes before making first contact and go far far away, before getting involved with the toxic humanity...)

May I get some thoughts on an idea I had for a story? I fear it comes too close to stereotype. Okay, idea is a Black phys ed teacher (set in the UK) gets threatened with job loss because she responds with anger to a creepy White guy taking photos of her butt while she's teaching sports outside and possibly breaks his phone. I don't think this is an Angry Black Person stereotype because she has actual reason to be angry. However, I want it to end with her keeping her job and winning her court case and the only way I can think of for her to do that is to say she was protecting the children from both bad influences and being caught in a sexualised video, because misogyny and racism might lead to it being dismissed otherwise, plus it may not technically count as an illegal "upskirt" shot if she was wearing trousers, or at least that'd be the White guy's defence. If she uses that as a defence, is it too close to the mammy stereotype, since she'd be at least claiming to be protecting other people's mostly-White kids, even if her actual primary motive at the time was protecting herself? The characters would be conscious of the stereotype and might bring it up, but at the same time it's a defence that could work and they would probably consider that more important from their own perspective. It's a fanfic involving an existing character, so for that and various other reasons I'm not gonna just make the teacher White, and the story involves multiple Black women NOT being there just to protect other people's kids and plenty of women of other ethnicities who do protect kids. I don't think this is a huge problem but I wanted to get some advice, and if it is too stereotypical we can always do something else with the character.

He had a really strong bond to his Grandma so he didn‘t slept for a long time after that tragic accident because he thought it was his fault. He also had a lot of strange dreams before it which got all true. His Parents believed he could see the future or like predict the future in his dreams. One night he dreamed that he got spelled with a unforgiveable. His parents got worried so they did teach him the Imperius Curse to protect himself, but nothing happened. When he reached that age he got invited to Hogwarts and moved back to Europe with his Parents and siblings. Even with his Trauma alvin always stays positive and has the best Time in Hogwarts. Also learning more about his ability in combination with Magic. He keeps his ability a secret to protect people. (Only a few does know about it)

RELATIONSHIPS

Matty Ambrose - THIS IS HIS GIRL and only his ! Matty is his Girlfriend and he is madly deeply in love with her. 🥹 he would do anything for her. They‘ve known eachother from classes but he fell in love with her while playing quidditch.

Mystic Flour and Cultural Confusion: part 1

Hello there, stranger. I see the smell of cookies has guided you through the white mist. Why don't you kick back and relax while I talk your ear off about the cultural significance of a baked good…

This is what I'm doing with my life.

So, Cookie Run: Kingdom. A game that starts with the tone of Dragon Tales and somehow mutates into Lord of the Rings territory (Which I love by the way). Cookie Run as a franchise has always had dozens of characters from all different walks of life, many of them inspired by our real world. Devsisters dedicate a lot of time and effort to getting the cultural significance of their characters and plot lines correct, and they do a pretty good job…

Mostly…(I ain't going anywhere near that until I get more research and opinions on it.)

When pulling direct inspiration from a real-world culture and introducing it to an audience of a separate one, It can lead to a surprising amount of confusion. A good example of this would be when something originated in one culture, but is far more known in a different one, causing some people to believe that a certain thing only belongs to one culture.

So…what does an overdesign treat have to do with what I just said? A lot actually. But alas, there's still one last thing I need to clarify, less I get mauled to death for not covering my bases.

Now, I'm not going to disclose the entirety of my identity as I care about my privacy. All you need to know is that I'm a minority in the Western hemisphere. The reason I feel it's important to disclose this is because people will use my identity, or lack thereof, to discredit anything I say, all because I MIGHT be some white guy in my 30s. One of the reasons for this behavior could be people trying to make sure someone isn't just trying to profit off of someone else's beliefs or culture, which I completely understand. I know what it's like when people attempt to use your identity just to benefit them in some sort of way, Even if it's not on the level of a religion or practice. It completely erases you as a person and just makes you an accessory.

However, the problem comes when you overdo it. I've seen a decent amount of people being attacked over interacting with cultures outside of their own, All because they don't fit the criteria of being enough of a certain ethnicity to do something. It's understandable to be mad when someone's making a mockery of what you care about, But it's entirely different when they're actively trying to learn and you still treat them horribly. It's kind of hard to learn about something when you're being told You're a monster for trying to do so.

To those who are curious or want to get in touch with your ancestry, You're still valid even if you don't breathe that culture every day. The only thing you really need is patience to learn and respect to understand.

Oh yeah, you're still here. (Whoops)

The reason why Mystic Flour Cookie is important to this conversation is due to her cultural influence of Buddhism. Those who are at least somewhat familiar with the belief could probably pick up on the inspiration just by looking at her. (Keep in mind, children play this game so not everyone is going to know this.) From what I've seen, a sizable amount of people think Mystic flower is Chinese-inspired which…isn't wrong, But there's a bit more to it. I'll be showing quotes in links I used in my research, feel free to do your own digging. if you like.

Before I go ahead and start going into detail on Mystic Flour, I'm actually going to split up this post into 2 parts so it's easier for people to read. If you're interested you shouldn't have to wait long, and thanks for even bothering to read this.

❞ Warm tone color of yellow, and the sun. The old English name for a baby girl, similar to, "sweetie," "darling," and, "honey."

a/n: I pretty much give up writing about her, but she is the most anxious girlie uwu💕🫶

❞ Why her name is, "Honey?"

This may sound silly, but I randomly chose this name. I don't have a reason, but it sounded silly. I think her appearance suits her a lot when brainstorming a character. I was kinda really into cute things and coquettes fashions and aesthetics when I was in my first year of college. I already knew that "Honey," is used for pet names, but I can't really think of another name.

I'm not a big fan of brainstorming a name for my OCs and finding a bigger meaning. I do hate remembering every single name despite I have a goldfish memory. I like to keep it simple and creative.

Honey is also used as a cute British name. If I am correct...? However, it's not just British, but also Hebrew too. Their name kinda sounded as familiar as, "Honey," but spelled differently due to the similar pronunciation. However, Honey isn't British or European.

❞ Ethnicity & Honey's Parents

Honey's ethnicity is Half Korean and Half Japanese. Her mother (who is the Solomon of Descendants) is Japanese and her father who is South Korean works in the Military. She is halfu basically meaning that she was raised and born with a different race. She was born in Yokohama but later moved to South Korea in Busan due to her father's military jobs.

Both Honey's parents knew how to speak English, but they rather raised her speaking mostly Korean and a little bit of Japanese.

Did Honey know that she was hafu? Yes, she knew because she taught at a young age how to accept her culture and religion. However, both Honey and her parents are religious, but rather be religion-free. However, she wasn't aware that she was the descendant of Solomon, even her own mother doesn't know that she was the Solomon of Descendants before she passed away. Honey wasn't aware that she was gonna be the next Solomon of Descendants before her mother passed away. The father doesn't know, either.

Honey's parents both have different jobs. Honey's dad works Armed Military forces, while Honey's mom works at a convenience store. Nothing fancy as long they had each other. Honey didn't know much about her family growing up since everyone was very private about their life. She doesn't know her parent's names since they didn't want to reveal their name, so it is basically, "Honey's unnamed parents." Until she went to their funeral that's when she found out about their name.

Honey doesn't know if her parents have siblings or grandparents or other families, despite that they never mentioned their family history. It remains unknown for Honey since she always called her parents, "ママ" (Mama) and, "아빠" (Appa). They never mentioned about their other families to Honey since Honey had never met them.

A little bit about Honey's parents. Honey's mother aka the previous Daughter of Solomon or Descendants of Solomon. She doesn't like talking about her life growing up. The only information coming from Honey was that her mother isn't close with her family, since there is "favoritism" in her family's tree, and haven't met them since she was married to her husband, gave birth to Honey, and moved to South Korea to start a new life. She mostly relies on herself to survive and likes to work hard to support herself and her family (her husband and Honey.)

Honey's father also doesn't talk about his family a lot, either. Despite that, he has been in the military forces for his whole life. He doesn't take Honey or his wife to see his family, but his parents passed away in a car crash. His siblings cut contact with him and completely abandoned him on his own. Honey doesn't know how old his parents passed away and his siblings cut contact with him. Only the military forces can financially support him since he is enlisted in the military in Japan and that's where he met Honey's mom.

Honey's parents passing is a tragic for her. Imagine being in class and you are being pulled into an office to inform you that both your parents were found dead in their own homes, lying in their own pool of blood after a burglar attack that broke inside their own home. However, the attacks remain unsolved since there is no sign of breaking in, but the attacks were brutal and there is no sign of a burglar stealing any valuables. Both of her parents passed away from a "burglar" attack. The case is still remain unknown as Honey was taken by Minhyeok's parents

❞Meeting Minhyeok and his family

When Honey and her parents moved to Busan, South Korea. They moved into the suburbs in a friendly neighboring area. Honey is 2 years older than Minhyeok, but also a year younger than Minhyeok's older brother (it remains unknown how old Minhyeok's older brother is).

Honey is well-known in the neighbor area because they would call her, "Shy baby," because she would cry whenever she met someone new and would hide behind her mom or her dad. She would sometimes cry due to her feeling overwhelmed and nervous too. (Would later talk about her mental health in another paragraph.) Obviously, the neighbor would tease her for her shy behavior but would stop because she would cry.

Minhyeok and his older brother were the ones who welcomed Honey and were always patient with her. Now, she would cling to them like a koloa looking for a shield.

Somehow, Minhyeok's parents had befriended Honey's parents and now they're like neighbor-friends and very close with each other. Even, the school had to assign Honey and Minhyeok to be in the same classroom because Honey would start crying if they were in a separate room. However, they are aware that Honey was diagnosed with anxiety disorder both social anxiety and separation issues at a very young age.

Minhyeok is still attached to Honey and would never leave her, since they still have a strong bond together and would never leave each other side. She is still close with Minhyeok's older brother, but she doesn't have feelings for Minhyeok's older brother, but she is clueless about Minhyeok having feelings for her.

❞Her Disorder

She was diagnosed with anxiety at a young age around 5 years old. She had an Anthropophobia meaning that she is a person with anthropophobia who may avoid crowds, fear eye contact, or worry that they are being judged and always anxious with other peoples that she isn't very familiar with. She would cry, yes, since she has gotten a nickname called, "crybaby," but she doesn't cry ALL the time.

Honey, ever since she was a child had suffered from social anxiety and separation anxiety growing up when her parents were around. They thought that she was just nervous until it got so severe that they had to take her to a professional as they diagnosed her with terminal anxiety. She would cling to either, Minhyeok or her parents. Honey doesn't have any siblings or any relatives that she knows since she doesn't know much about them, since they're bad news to her parents.

She had stutter issues, whenever she spoke to someone that she didn't know. This doesn't mean that she is Y/N or a "pick me" girl. She is afraid of people and always avoids making eye contact or speaking to them. She couldn't order food in the front register, so she needed an assistant with her. If no one assist her, then she would order it, online or order delivery, so she could avoid being with people.

Honey is under medication for her anxiety, but nothing helps to relax as she is more fidgety and more overwhelmed about others judging her actions. She can be sensitive and sometimes would have a mental breakdown if it was too much for her. She'll mostly fiddle her fingers or her skirts or her shirt, whenever she is feeling nervous.

❞Her paraphilla

I haven't decided about her paraphilia or kink, but I was thinking of being Odaxelagina (fetish of bite or being bite).

My honest thoughts about this kink or fetish was that it could help Honey calming herself down when having intimacy with other Demons, especially when her anxiety or her nervousness breaks out. She does like being biten anywhere on her body, but gets nervous or anxious when someone or some demon pointed it out. Yes, she will bite other demons' body part if she gets nervous, however, it does turns her on.

Successful policy innovations often come from the most unexpected people and places. As citizens quipped for a half century, only arch Cold Warrior Richard Nixon could open up Communist China. Today, perhaps, only some Donald Trump acolytes such as Elon Musk can make black lives matter, undoing years of bloody damage from progressive activists and indifference from everyone else. If there was ever a tempting target for the Trump administration’s proposed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), American policing and criminal justice is it, boasting whole orchards of low-hanging fruit. Success in protecting black (and all other) lives could simultaneously increase President Trump’s already substantial support among racial and ethnic minorities and free sensible Democrats from the grip of their party’s extremists.

For more than a decade — Trayvon Martin was killed in 2012, Michael Brown in 2014 — Black Lives Matter has been an untouchable sacred cow for progressive Democrats, attracting at least $10 billion in donations and goosing progressive voter turnout, per serious scholars such as Harvard’s John Della Volpe. The dominant BLM narrative paints police as an existential threat to black people. Activists even claim, falsely, that modern police evolved from antebellum patrols organized to apprehend escaped slaves. In reality, of course, such institutions as the city watch and the king’s guard date back to an era when there were walled cities and kings. Robin Hood’s great opponent was the sheriff of Nottingham, and, as Guy de la Bédoyère notes in his excellent book Praetorian, the first true lawmen were probably pensioned-off Roman legionnaires. Any paradigm that simply denies all of this essentially requires that activists smear critics as racist, contributing to the toxic state of contemporary discourse.

Moreover, progressives sympathetic to the BLM narrative, and some of the movement’s scrappers, occupy key positions in governmental and private bureaucracies, which — as we noted at a recent conference — they use to censor others. The paradigmatic example is Harvard administrators’ attempt to fire star economist Roland Fryer after he published a sophisticated article showing that, controlling for behavior, police do not disproportionately kill black people. Sociologist Musa al-Gharbi details how thousands of woke activists and bureaucrats have until recently enjoyed high salaries for and considerable emotional satisfaction from their imposing the “correct” paradigm and purging critics.

This sort of virtue-signaling seriously damaged Democrats at the polls, likely enabling Donald Trump’s decisive electoral win this past November. But has it saved black lives? Sadly, it has not, and neither have activist reforms. Nevertheless, since the BLM era began around 2014, more police have died on the job, and activists’ demonization of cops has likely contributed to this trend.

In fairness, the 2014–19 period saw a small decrease in police killings of civilians, with about 200 fewer dead. Alas, as we document in “Black Deaths: How Black Lives Matter Took Lives That Better Policing Could Save,” thousands more citizens, mostly black citizens, died during this period as homicide rates among black males spiked from 30 to 56 per 100,000. And even the era of declining police homicides — for all groups — appears to be over. As Covid-19 and the post–George Floyd anarchy contributed to a striking surge in crime, American law enforcement officers fatally shot 1,050 people in 2021, 1,097 in 2022, and 1,164 in 2023, compared with 995 in 2015.

For all our lambasting of activists and academics, city mayors and officials have hardly covered themselves in glory. The graphic murder of a single wealthy white tourist in 1991, with its implications for the travel industry, turned New York City policing around in ways that the killings of thousands of regular New Yorkers could not.

Decades later, top cops continue to protect important (and disproportionately white) people in downtown business districts and tourist spots, while throwing bones to progressives by de-policing the poorer, blacker parts of town that need protection the most, and where homicides have soared in the BLM era. One thing that police-union leaders and street activists have in common is a remarkable callousness toward poor lives, often “black lives.” That’s horrible but understandable given that high homicide rates among low-income minorities rarely get police commissioners fired or mayors voted out.

Enter the DOGE.

While supporters claim that the Department of Government Efficiency, headed up by Musk and until recently co-led by likely Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, can potentially save the U.S. hundreds of billions of dollars, smart critics note that most big federal spending today is in middle-class welfare programs such as Social Security and Medicare — the famous third-rail programs that politicos, including Trump, fear to slash. Absent such action, as National Review’s own Yuval Levin laments, “so far, the DOGE is pretty much a bunch of memes and an X account.”

With respect to Levin, he fails to see an opportunity. The reason to have smart, wealthy outsiders such as Musk onboard is that, unbound by the status quo, they can bring creativity and transparency to failing bureaucracies. Given that 87 percent of government employees are in state and local bureaucracies, there is no reason to limit the DOGE’s insights purely to the federal level of government. Though its role would be purely advisory, state and local governments that are open to unconventional ideas could greatly benefit from the DOGE’s counsel.

Regarding policing, for example, since the 1990s, the New York Police Department has transformed itself by learning how to hire better cops, fire bad cops, and use information technology to replace a costly paper-based system and position cops where crimes were most likely to occur. The results: an 80 percent reduction in police shootings of civilians and a more than 80 percent reduction in homicide, alongside a decrease in incarceration. In just a few years, New York went from being one of the nation’s most dangerous cities to one of its safest.

An agency like the DOGE could make suggestions of this kind to any governmental agency worth talking to. In the context of policing, this could look like advising departments not currently doing so to identify and incarcerate the few most serious criminals in every jurisdiction who are responsible for most crime, end the bizarre anarcho-tyranny of cities and larger entities that fund costly campaigns against such groups as clinic protesters and crosswalk desecrators while allowing theft below a certain dollar amount to go on at will, and most notably to ditch any expensive ceremonial activities unrelated to making arrests (“Throughout Pride Month, our painted cars symbolize . . .”).

If nothing else, the DOGE could intentionally become — as in some cases X/Twitter recently has — a go-to source for real data on topics that citizens fear to frankly discuss. High-dollar civic campaigns against “systemic racism and other root causes of crime,” for example, are unlikely ever to accomplish much — because “systemic racism” is not a significant causal factor for crime in 2024. In one of the most important and unremarked trends of the past 50 years, serious violent crime has increased by almost 400 percent between 1963 and 1993 — as welfare use increased and family stability dropped like a rock, but as racism steadily declined. This point should be made often and publicly.

Beyond policing, the potential scope of the DOGE is breathtaking. In our opinion, most things that large bureaucracies like government agencies and nonproductive Fortune 500 departments do are total wastes of space and time. Musk famously fired 80 percent of the staff of Twitter, and his platform runs slightly better today. That said, a very specific first goal for the DOGE should be to recommend that state and local governments cut the parasitical alphabet soup functions (BLM, DEI, CRT, ESG, SEL, NU-HR, AA) of as many public agencies as possible, at every level.

Doing that, and redirecting the focus of as many police departments as possible toward reality, would save not only billions of green dollars but also tens of thousands of black lives. Let’s go!
