sometimes the portrayals are really good!! but i hate that often, people portray him either as a moody brat or a weak baby. he is canonically a good fighter, especially after the fire, though he doesn’t like to. hes a loner, hes a reader, hes a pacifist, hes a good kid.

you have to remember that the outsiders is literally written in HIS POINT OF VIEW!!! ofc yes he’s a sassy and snarky teenager but he is also so intelligent and smart. hes a loner, but the gang would never shun his company. he has so much depth that a lot of writers often forget. hes a 14 year old kid with thoughts of a adult and can only do so much. thats what makes the outsiders so relatable to alot of people. its his intelligence that makes him and darry argue, because of how darry sees himself in ponyboy

but also on the other side of the coin ponyboy is a fragile character after the events of the book, because he is 14!!! but he has thoughts!!

i feel like people forget his good traits and only focus on the bad (and oh my goodness does this count for darry too!)

besides fanfiction.net and like 30% of the fics on ao3 hes actually a solid portrayal most of the time, but tons of people forget that his relationship with ponyboy wasnt actually that batshit awful. sure theyd butt heads alot and go back and forth but they love each other thats why they did that. hes so much more than just an angry man who happens to be ponyboys brother.

hes a man who peaked in high school (IM KIDDING) and lost it all not because of his brothers but because of his parents. there was probably some strong resentment there for a while until they died. darrys problem or flaw is that he cares too much and his fear turns to anger. its love for sodapop and ponyboy that brings him back when he realizes his anger is doing more bad than good for his little brothers. It’s opening up and allowing his brothers in that helps his character.

that being said, people often focus more on his bad traits than his good traits. its a running theme in the outsiders fandom, i’ve noticed

not to sound like an edgelord but. the traveler. if we can acknowledge that the Darkness isnt ontologically Evil, i think we can (PLEASE) acknowledge that the Light isnt inherently good. and im not talking about the superpowers we get, they've (narrative team) made it quite clear that individuals choose to do what they will with based on their own morals. but the traveler is, imo, positioned as a Morally Good Agent Of The Light far more than the witness is Of The Darkness, and i think we need to talk more about the traveler's agenda!!! again, this complexity isnt completely absent from the narrative, but it doesnt feel like those interpretations are... metatextually supported igss? like zavala's frustration with the traveler leaving feels more like a very christian (as someone who was not raised religious) test of faith that zavala (and the canonical YW) have Passed and will be Rewarded.

I chose the OP option (because I can't decide which stats I wanna focus on 😭) and I developed a little head canon to explain why my character is good at everything. In his former life he was less than OP. He was one of those people who have potential, but never applied himself, out of a mixture of laziness, procrastination, and a crippling fear of failure! When he died he was extremely disappointed in himself. He always figured that he'd pull himself together in the future, but now he's dead and he never achieved anything he wanted, other than gathering some useless facts (like maybe ancient technology such as the treadwheel crane perhaps 👀). When he got his second chance he decided he was gonna make full use of it. The instant he was able to comprehend the language of the world and was able to read, he'd sneak books and accelerate his education through reading things someone as young as him shouldn't understand. He also would go through physical training, again in secret, and watch the guards train in swordsmanship in hopes of picking something up. Since for years he had little to no responsibilities, and the mind of an adult, he has been able to devote almost all his time to developing his mind and body

TL;DR: my MC went from a procrastinator to a try hard and it payed off

Its really interesting to think about how you'd really act in a similar situation to the MC as you yourself.

The MC is canon to be "good" from the start, and its up to the player to choose how the MC progresses over time...honestly the best reincarnation works ive seen out there arent the traditional Isekai protag animes, its actually works that deal with a woman being reincarnated or isekai'd. Either a reincarnated villainess trope, or general isekai trope work, the ones with female leads are generally better in my opinion since it usually aint a power fantasy

This is a weirdly realistic take on the historical figures of the Sengoku period having to deal with this weird girl who appears to have come out of nowhere but knows a bit of practical modern knowledge that helps Oda Nobunaga win some victories. Honestly, i really appreciate how grounded it is for a manga! The truth of the matter is, we really wouldnt be able to do that much if we were in her shoes either lol!

thinking abt the completely opposite styles Arrio and Nathan went for in their suits!!!!!! it tells so freaking much abt their characters and exactly why they tend to have quite a bit of friction!!!

🐺Nathan´s style is techwear (or something similar) he centers himself in functionality as well as protection, his suit is mostly sleek without much extra fabric except in the hood and his pants, which is interesting bc once again, this has a functional purpose!! pants like that provide extra mobility *and* extra space for gadgets, which while being a great fighter, he has to rely heavily on. while the hood, i´d say is one of the more un practical features of his suit (tech + anpther mask is already obscuring his identity, he does *not* need that thing!!), however it´s meaning makes up for it. from purely a character design standpoint, a hood (especially when its up) can be used to tell inmediately a character likes to keep his cards close, not keen on trusting people and more than okay with just fading into the background. but also in Nathan´s case, it parallels Daejung/Jupiter-Man!!! which makes me INSANE!!!! bc not only is his hood so much more ... normal than Jupiter-man´s big and flowy cape, but!!! he´s mirroring his dad (again)!!!! aghh-

🔥okok sorry yall know im more insane abt Nathan by the day, but onto Arrio´s suit analysis!! 3 things of note are: no mask, triple aesthetic influence, weak spots. I absolutely love that arrio contrasts with nathan´s overkill of a mask by wearing absolutely no mask at all!! (<- dumbass move in my opinion but i support it), it makes sense he didnt go for a mask bc his goal was never the superhero secret identity nonsense, even if it were to later grow on him, his core motivation was always to look out for the twins (<- as opposed to Quin, who in a non canon test comic carried arround masks and would jump at the chance to use em).

next part is more me nitpicking arrio´s suit than comparing w nathan´s lol

Triple aesthetic influence: what i mean by this is his suit feels like a combination of streetwear (loose, comfortable jacket, ripped jeans), the default parameters for their super suits (tight black shurts, turtleneck, contrasted with strong pops of color ((as opposed to the girls´ white w pops of color)), and magi type clothes!! <- which i absolutely love btw!!, it can be noticed in his jacket´s high collar, loose wide sleeves, beads on a string w no clear purpose, stripe patterns (reminiscent of his spellbook but way oversimplified) , skull and belt w a good amount of extra fabric!!!

a bunch of these features (specially the belt) arent as streamlined as they could be and that is a c h o i c e , homeboy really increased his number of weakspots that could get snagged or pulled does he even know it??? does he even care ???

as a side note: he and quintin are the only ones with an easily removable part of their outfit (jacket), and theyre the ones most prone to using it!!!! look me in the eyes and tell me they wouldnt absolutely lend them to people if they needed some sort of comfort and protection

I agree that there are times when horrible people have an opinion or two that arent horrible. But when someone is as hateful and cruel and DANGEROUS as Jordan Peterson, supporting them and thinking they're "a good person" because of one or two not horrible things about them is ridiculous. Hitler loved dogs and was an artist. I love dogs and art too. Doesn't mean he is deserving of my respect or support. Doesn't mean that he's a mostly good man.

Okay so I have a bit of a random question that you might or might not know the answer to. For context, I’m gonna be doing a working holiday in Ireland because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity due to having to be currently enrolled in college or at least within the first year post graduation. Well I’ve been told by multiple people, who have no relationship with each other, that it’s much better for me to say that I’m from Texas than say I’m an American. While both are true, they’ve told me that people have been much more friendly towards them when they say that they’re from Texas and just leave it at that. Do you by any chance know why that is? I’ve tried to look it up, but all I’ve found was the impression y’all get from us are basically guns, big, and BBQ. To me those don’t seem like things that correlate, which has made me more confused.

All good if you don’t know or if it’s not even something you’ve personally experienced or heard of people experiencing. I’m just curious more than anything

Hey! Well I'm a Brit, London based, very English, so I can't speak for the Irish at all (and wouldn't dare even if I thought we might share an opinion on the matter!) but I've never heard of this.

Honestly though? Its just my opinion but I would have thought it would be the other way around? If the people telling you that are from Texas, I'd say thats a bit biased as I know Texans are known for being very proudly, well, Texan.

Most people I know from this side of the pond, whether British or European, aren't gonna judge individual Americans just on the fact that they are American. Unless you are a walking stereotype and rather obnoxious about it I wouldn't be too concerned. We are aware that America is a huuuuge place with a LOT of different types of people living there.

But Texas does have a reputation. The Texas stereotype is more ingrained that the general American imo. Loud, large, right leaning, guns, cowboys, etc...

Texas is one of the more recognisable states to most people over here along with New York and California (and Florida although I think most Brits (again, I cant speak for the Irish) just associate Florida with beaches and Disney World). So whilst I doubt your friends assumptions that people here are friendlier to Texans, its likely coming from a place of recognition. The reaction upon meeting a Texan might be "oooh Texas! Cowboys!" And the Texan in question would view that recognition as extra friendly when its really just "i am aware of you" whereas if you said you were from say Missouri you'll be met with a blank face.

A Californian might feel the same reaction applies to them, that by saying theyre from California, they are likely to get a stronger reaction than saying they are just from America simply because the European person is more aware of California and can make assumptions based on their general knowledge of California.

So thats my best guess. If you want people to associate you with cowboys, horses, guns, bbqs, etc, then by all means proudly state you are from Texas - you just might need to elaborate to then fight a general stereotype.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying everyone will stereotype you, but these are generalisations. I'm actually from Essex, and I often don't admit to that because Essex in the UK has a very strong stereotype which was only further encouraged by that ghastly reality TV show about it. If I say I'm from London, people aren't gonna make too many assumptions. Saying I'm from Essex I immediately get the smirk and the knowing look and the "oh youre an Essex girl are you?" And I HATE it. But some women from Essex might get a kick out of that I suppose.

So what I'm actually saying here is it all depends on how you want to be viewed. Its not about friendliness. People arent friendlier to Texans than other states. Its about whether or not you wanna be associated with peoples general stereotypes of Texas and whether you view those associations as positive or negative.

I don't flaunt my coming and goings - I keep my life pretty private so I don't understand why people feel the need to not only butt into my life and report any associated comings and goings to individuals who use it against me and rub things in my face when things arent perfect - it's disgusting how they justify their ugly behavior under the guise of "caring". If you cared you wouldn't be throwing shit in my face. What is wrong with people??? I don't control other people's behavior. Other people make choices on how they want to act. I'm tired of being the scapegoat bc people don't want to be mad at the person they should be mad at. I'm tired of being strong. So why do other people feel the need to butt into my life ? Especially in the last couple months ?! And make comments ? And have opinions ? And call me names and put me down?? Wtf does MY life and MY choices and MY decisions have any impact on other people?!?

I finished Jojolion yesterday, here's my thoughts on it below the cut, spoilers of course

overall i liked it, but i think the final chunk was kinda weak. for me, it started around when the fruit appraiser joined the cast. on him in particular, he felt like he was supposed to be a jobro, but he wasn't particularly likeable and i would've preferred him to not stick around for long.

as a small aside, it felt like there was alot of the shounen "guy gets completely fucked up and nearly dead, but recovers the next day" in jojolion. obviously that has alot to do with the lococaca, but it felt like alot to me.

as for why i felt like the ending was weak, my big complaints start with that it was just way too busy. there was so many different things going on with different parts of the cast at once that it was hard to focus on the main showdown

the second is the final stand power awakening with Josuke. it was lame, straight up. im a sucker final crucial last second power-ups, but Soft & Wet: Go Beyond was just not well executed or interesting. how long have these invisible bubbles been happening? why arent they controllable if theyre start of S&W? why does he actually apparently have a small amount of control at the end? why does it need some internet connection to travel to Toru if it can bend reality? why does it even happen at all? its an asspull i wasnt expecting to get in Jojolion.

Speaking of Soft & Wet, it really feels ridiculously underutilized. it does cool stuff with stealing attributes at first, but after that it rarely does anything interesting. i realize Jojolion as a whole was supposed to be more about mysteries and relationships than punch ghost combat, but why even give him a punch ghost? ALOT of wasted potential there imo

my last big issue was with the big bad, Toru. he was just okay. Wonder of U is a really cool stand, and very in line with the themes of Jojolion being about a curse. that being said, it was also much too strong. an ability that you absolutely must work outside of reality to defeat is a bit silly. as for Toru himself, he just wasnt that interesting. showing him as pulling strings and such is neat, but his motivation was very unclear to me. dicking around the wiki, i saw it says that his goal was to rebalance society, but honestly i really did Not get that. could be a weak translation thing, i could just be stupid. all i got from him was that he coule sell it to rich people for crazy profits.

Jobin/Tsurugi were a way better final threat. their motives were relatable and well understood, and their feeling of being too far in to stop even though they were sickened by their own actions were human and something you could sympathize with.

final little ps:

this last page sucks. again, the wiki says she was crying from happiness that Josuke found his family, but like. she does not look happy at all. shes frowning, or neutral at best. why is josuke seeming to be with another girl? like, there was a couple problems between them, but neither are shown to be thickheaded enough to keep them apart. it feels like there was a whole section missing where the relationship fell apart. eugh.

overall? the first like, 3/4s or so were really good, counteracting the sloppy finish. 7/10

the weather today was neutral. not too cold, not too hot. it came surprisingly to the two adults as yesterday it was pouring rain, Gotham's usual weather. but today it was neutral. the wind blew strong enough to move their calloused hair, but not too strong to be distracting or irritating that they had to make their way back inside - it was neutral.

"i know, you've mentioned that like 10 times." his snarky comment made her look up in annoyance.

she was met with his playful smile, and she tried her best to bite her smile. "you just know how to push my buttons, todd."

1. there are countless free to play mmos, maple story, blade and soul, elsword, fortnight... so all/most mmos arent subscription based

2. saying you pay only once is ignoring that most ppl who play enough sso to pay for lifetime do in fact go back and buy star coins. they do continue to finance the game. acting like "sso is so generous bc every lifetime is a loss for them" is wrong when honestly most lifetimes will continue to spend money on the game. double sc weekend is a huge thing. games like fortnight r free to play bc you need to pay real money for aesthetics and so many ppl care abt this. in sso you both pay 70$ and continue to pay for aesthetics (aka horses). aesthetics is a huge part of sso culture. spending money is a huge part of sso culture. new horses, limited event horses, shopping is super strong in sso. its a game ppl mainly play for dressing up, roleplay and socializing. things that encourage you to continue spending. not for the gameplay mechanics or story.

3. saying "if you think sso isnt worth 70$ youre saying the workers shouldnt put food on their table" is not something i appreciate. i am definitely allowed to think a product is not high quality enough to justify its price. if i pay 200$ for a shirt and what comes in the mail is a broken thin cheap fabric with a peeling print, i am allowed to be frustrated and think this wasn't worth the price. (and those who get most of the money on the bad quality hypothetical tshirt are definitely not the simple workers, but the management).

4. sso's amount of bug is NOT justified by constant updates. ive never in my life played a game so broken like sso and ive played many mmos. no mmo i played was even close to being this broken. sso isnt buggy bc its updated constantly only, its buggy bc the shit way its built

5. when a game is this broken, its in fact not proffessional to just throw this buggy mess on the players who pay you and say help us fix it. you should test for this many bugs behind closed doors. especially in sso's case when its an unresonable amount of bugs. its not once in a while thing that a player finds. and this leads me to my next point

6. "sso is buggy bc of constant updates". sse are CHOOSING to bave a unique update every week. its their own choice. if the game is this buggy bc of weekly updates, they have the option to not have weekly updates. (but some bugs have been around for years, so again its not just the weekly updates). they could update once a month after properly testing, they could have less updates and shift the focus to fixing existing things rather than putting in new things. many mmos dont have weekly updates

listen, if you don't understand why SSO, a game that plans to continue running and updating for a while, needs to cost $70 when MOST OTHER MMOS do NOT offer a one time charge option. They're ALL subscription based. SSO has every right to be subscription based so they can pay their team and yet they keep the "one time charge" option available, which is not industry standard.

Yeah a completed game can cost less. Stardew, an amazing game, costs like $15. But it's posted in a state of completion where updates aren't guaranteed or promised. So he (one guy) gets continued revenue from purchases of the game which he doesnt HAVE to keep working on. SSO has to keep working. They have to keep paying their staff. $70 is not that big of an ask and is in fact a very small ask. It has bugs because they keep updating so more bugs are gonna occur. REPORT THE DAMN BUGS. They want the community to so they can damn fix em. And just talking about bugs on tumblr or instagram is not reporting them.

$70 is a lot of money for some people and thats VALID but guess what- you don't gotta play or hell you could play for free until you can't. Video games are a luxury, not a right.

ojiro: i mean, it fits his personality? i look at his character and go ehhh. and then i see his hero costume and go ehhh. very on brand.

kaminari: the jacket is a grabby hazard. maybe he could fix the ends to the rest of his costume so they arent flapping around? other than that its good.

kirishima: look, i love him as much as the next person but god please put on a shirt. take a leaf out of mirio's book and make a suit out of your hair, that way it hardens with you and adds an extra layer of protection. also the skirt thingy is a grabby hazard.

koda: gonna be honest, i had to look it up because i could not remember what it looked like BUT when i saw it it was a little confusing? the mouth. why. he couldve put anthing else on his shirt in relation to his quirk but goes with a set of teeth. get it ig?

sato: its solid. a little boring to look it which must be a pain to market off but its reliable? i mean it compliments him well so. king.

shoji: so theres nothing really wrong with it, but i just dont like it. i mean he doesnt have much to work with to be fair and it feels a little plain. not like i could do any better though.

jiro: her costume looks like street clothes. the jacket, again, should be fixed to the rest of her costume so you cant grab it. her boots might weigh her down? idk maybe theyre made of lightweight material who knows.

sero: another one i dont necessarily have a strong opinion about. it works well with his quirk, he sticks to a few main colors, and his helmet thing looks like a tape dispenser. hes easily marketable and its efficient.

tokoyami: haha edgelord. but its useful. his cloak helps dark shadow if theres too much light and it just fits his aesthetic. another easy market (esp towards teens)

hagakure: see above, but more stressed. please, just copy mirio and make a suit out of your hair. we are all begging you.

bakugou: oh boy uh. green and orange are So Ugly together. they just dont work and the black background theyre on only accentuates this. another note: his gauntlets are too big for him to open a door. this man would never be able to do stealth missions unless he lost the gauntlets.

midoriya: i like his, honestly. he adapted it to work well with his quirks and he also reinforced the places and he needex extra support (wrists/hands). stuck to a color scheme.

mineta: i genuinely do not understand what the thing around his waist is for?? what is it. also cape: garbby hazard. id tone down the yellow a bit, just so it doesnt scream out his position because its eye catching.

yaoyorozu: you are a child. i cant believe i am reiterating this point so much but make a suit out of your hair. your hair is a surface on your body ergo, you should be able to produce your creations through it without exposing yourself.

+aizawa: i mean, it works for an underground hero. he doesnt have to worry about his appearance, just practicality. he has his goggles, his scarf. the only thing bad is the bagginess. some villain is going to grab the extra fabric and yeet him into a brick wall.

I’ll be honest. Whenever costumes are involved I always get a little scared. But you anon? You’ve managed to be OSHA and the fashion police all at once. I literally can’t add anything to this you are objectively correct

And THANK YOU for bringing up the ‘make costumes out of your hair’. Sure it might not work 100% of the time. But at LEAST Hagakure could! I would like to see it for all the ones you’ve mentioned tho, it’s incredibly practical and also way more protective for these children
