The Art of Star Wars Rebels- A, slightly salty, analysis

So I am a major Star Wars Rebels fan, so when I discovered an Art of Book was being made for it I immediately pre-ordered the delux edition of the book. And while I did quite enjoy it, a lot, there were some flaws that have been kind of bothering me still in regards to the choices made within the book. Now if you love the book and don’t see any issue with it great! Enjoy by all means this is just me tossing my opinion into the void so to speak. Some salt below the cut.

The thing that I was most excited for in regards to the deluxe edition that frustrates me the most honestly is the special edition art that came with it.

Now at a glance you might be wondering, what’s the big deal these are cool images and you are right, they are cool. But this is supposed to be an Art of Star Wars Rebels book. So why does the delux image for their book only have one member of the Ghost Crew, who are the main characters of the show, who is in only one of the five images we see here? Why is Ahsoka the star here when this is not her show. She should not get the focal point here, this should have been something special focusing on the Ghost Crew like maybe some sketches of ideas for Sabine’s paintings of her family from the finale. Instead we get two sketches of Ahsoka and one of Ezra.

These sketches definitely could have been included in the book, but why were they the special delux sketches?

Another thing that has me salty is the lightsaber pages now this is the page for Ezra’s lightsaber

Now Ezra’s lightsaber here only gets a passing label within the paragraph at the top of the page and gets an okay breakdown and for about two seconds it seemed that Kanan’s wouldn’t even get that courtesy because my mind auto piloted thinking the other lightsaber would be Kanan’s I mean of course it would be who else would they put? But then I looked at the saber then read the description above it and realized that no they did not put Kanan’s their and for some reason decided to put Darth Vader’s lightsaber here with Ezra’s and not Kanan’s here or anywhere even in the book.

At first I thought maybe somewhere further in the book they would show off Kanan’s lightsaber but his lightsaber never get’s concept art shown. Ahsoka’s lightsabers and even the darksaber get shown but they never include Kanan’s.

Also as a side note, Ahsoka’s lightsaber actually gets a proper label while Ezra’s does not. It seems about 50/50 in terms of if the saber get’s a proper label or just a side note.

Why do all of these lightsabers get a spotlight in the book but Kanan’s does not get a single reference in the entire book? Trust me I looked. I didn’t want to believe it because Kanan is one of the main characters, surely they would include concept art and a breakdown of it like with Ezra and Ahsoka. But no, what we have is Ezra’s, Ahsoka’s, Darth Vaders, Maul, Obi-wan and the Inquisitors lightsabers and no Kanan. It seems Kanan’s lightsaber is the only lightsaber that appeared in the show to not appear anywhere in the book. (If I am wrong and somehow missed it, I doubt it but I would be pleased ironically, please tell me.)

Of course, lightsabers are not the only weapons to get this treatment. Zeb’s bo-rifle also really get’s the short end of the stick in terms of concept art, only getting one small passing reference in which the book mentions Zeb’s choice weapon being a bo-rifle….then uses Kallus’s rifle for the reference image.

For me this is a major issue since Zeb mentions in the show it was modified for close combat, so the rifle they used when talking about the bo-rifle technically could be argued is not even an accurate image of one.

Now I already can hear people saying “But maybe they ran out of room and had to cut stuff!” And to answer you….no. If they were actually strapped for room, they would not have included things that make one appearance like this:

Why does a side character who only is in two episodes have her choice weapon broken down but Kanan’s lightsaber, Zeb’s bo-rife and even Sabine’s blasters get nothing?

The last thing that wasn’t terrible but definitely still bothered me a bit is the fact that Zeb only gets one page of concept art and chopper only gets half a page. Meanwhile Rex himself got two pages for him. Most of Zeb’s page is taken up by a picture of Chewie's original concept art which inspired Zeb.

Hell the early development section has more concept art for what I am guessing is Zeb’s character but it is hard to say for sure because it is a completely species outside of Wookie or Lasat I don’t quite recognize:

Seeing this I have to wonder if someone woke up from a fever dream with the perfect image of Zeb’s design ingrained in their mind.

Now all of this isn’t to say you can't love this book or it is terrible. I just wanted to point these issues out because we did deserve better. We need to be able to criticize things that we love because that is the only way for something to improve.

Let’s get into the romance kids

Barriss started pining on Ahsoka when they were around ten or eleven.

Maul is who made her realize her crush, after a blunt comment which left Barriss with an existential crisis

Ahsoka gains a crush on Barriss at the age of fourteen, and asks her out as quickly as she realizes this

Barriss is shook

And Maul owes Asajj twenty bucks

Ever since the first day of school, the gang has been shipping Artoo and Cee.

They barely knew it themselves, but every time the group had to split for whatever reason, they always put Artoo and Cee together

Artoo eventually did ask Cee out, which gave Cee quite the nervous breakdown when Artoo had rolled away.

Luke helped him a lot, and the two are now dating

After Artoo and Cee got together, Luke started to question his own sexuality and realized that he’s as straight as a circle

The poor boy nervously confessed to his sister, who took it chill and said that he had nothing to worry about, as he had a Bisexual Twin, a Lesbian older sister, a Pan dad and a gay pops.

So Luke came out

And started crushing on Han almost immediately.

What he didn’t know was the Leia did the same, but by being the best sister ever she did an Angelica and played Wingman for her brother

That also resulted in a fun situation as Anakin now had no idea who of the Twins the scruffy kid was together with, and neither Luke nor Leia wanted to tell because it was hilarious.

Ahsoka and Obi-Wan was chilling at the sidelines with a bet

Obi-Wan won that bet.

Asajj got together with a girl named Latts. Nothing to add here, they’re just dating

Jess and Rey (Later Also Kylo) had tried to set up Poe and Finn for around two to three years

They had started dating a year before that in secret, because it was fun seeing their desperate attempts and playing oblivious to it

Kylo did finally realize his crush on Hux after hearing him laugh for the first time

It was a challenge between the five, to see who could to it first, and Jess ended up winning after making Kylo trip in mud

Kylo had never heard such a beautiful sound and made it his mission to hear it as often as he could

But Ren is a mess with feelings and Jess did her best helping, while Kylo did his best helping her and Rey

Rey can’t read social cues at all, so she’s got no idea Jess is all over her

Over at the Jarrus-Syndulla household, it’s going pretty smoothly

Zeb had a huge rivalry with a classmate named Alexandr Kallus, until the two of them got caught in a snowstorm together

They became pretty good friends after it, and no one but Sabine actually knew what happened, and they ain’t interested in telling anyone

Sabine And Ketsu got closer, and started hanging out outside of vandalizing walls

Which got both her parents really worried when they started dating

Especially Hera, who had The “overprotective parent talk” with her and actually scared Ketsu a little

I don’t think I’ve talked about Ezra’s friends tbh

He’s friends with two guys named Jai Kell and Zare Leonis

They are a bit too young to think about dating yet, but Sabine’s money is on Zare while Zeb’s on Jai

Ahsoka and Barriss doesn’t last forever though, as when they turn sixteen Shaak gets a better job out of state, which results in them having to move

It was a tearful goodbye, and Ahsoka wasn’t the same for months, isolating herself in her room only letting Leia inside

The two did video chat for a while, but after some time that became too much and she stopped responding

She did eventually get ahold of herself, but after Barriss she didn’t date

Neither did Barriss

Coming Attractions!

First Monday of the month, woohoo!

(And also kind of a NaNo roundup post because that was last month, after all…)

NaNo:

Sooooo I didn’t finish, lol. Not that I was…super expecting to, exactly, but I was hopeful! I think I just missed too many days in a row and lost all my momentum.

In terms of my goals, I was hoping to write:

1. 20-25k on Precipice 2. 20-25k on our faces like a mirror 3. 10-20k on Other Projects. 4. 50-70k total

In terms of what I actually accomplished:

1. 9,241 on Precipice (Sooooooo....about half of what I’d hoped, a little less. But I still got a fair amount done/prepped for upcoming chapters, plus a couple chapters actually posted, even while doing other stuff, so...go me!) 2. 9,043 on our faces like a mirror (Again, a bit less than half of what I’d hoped for, but I got enough done for the story/etc. to take a real Shape in my head. ...ish. See the specific OFLAM stuff later on in the post...) 3. 10,601 on Other Projects (Hey, I actually met this goal! ...barely, but still! Mostly thanks to the Nikita/Rebels crossover, lol...) 4. 28,885 total

Original Fiction:

I got a decent chunk of a big backstory piece for Lux done (in the form of a “then” and “now” set of scenes/vignettes for the five Archangels)--that being said, I’m not sure I actually like what I have there, lol. I know more or less what I need to cover, but the details are fiddly. Also not sure whether I should refer to Lux by her current name, for consistency’s sake, or use a different name (either Lightbringer or just Lucifer) since she does technically reshape her name after being released when the main Apocalypse storyline kicks off…also debating whether Lux should be/present as female way back when--angels don’t really do gender the way humans do in this ‘verse, but the closest human term for Lux would be genderfluid, sooooo IDK. Also also, for the ‘Now’ part…ehhh, I’m not sure I should have this be the first thing I post involving Trixie…but I’ll keep poking at it and see what comes out.

(I’d also planned to work on the big Kesshare character study saturation for The Farglass Cycle this month, and maybe go back to my untitled first-contact story, but neither of those happened, lol.)

Precipice:

We’re in the home stretch! Kinda. So to speak. Probably three to four more chapters in Arc Seven, which I’m hoping-fingers-crossed I’ll finish by the end of the calendar year??? (But given how much other stuff I hope to work on (see Other Fanfic Projects for more details…)

At that point--and I know I’ve said this before, and I’ll probably put it in an A/N in the next chapter or so, but following the end of Milestones, I’m planning to break off into a second/sequel fic, working title Protectors. This is at least in part because length (over 200k wtf I was anticipating 50-75k, maybe 100k, for these seven arcs @.@), but also was sort of planned even without the Length issue, due to some thematic/structure shifts following a six-year timeskip. Which, if you do the math, you can probably figure out where that’ll land us and why I might be structuring it this way…

Anyway, I’ve increasingly realized that there’s some stuff I should probably set up that I’ll need for later arcs in Part 2 involving some Rebels characters, more with the Last Batch, plus a Sith Apprentice who needs to turn up and die (although the gap between Infernalis and the next apprentice I actually care about/have a name and some kind of Plot for is only about four years in my mental timeline, so maybe there isn’t an active Apprentice in that period*…hmmmmm…), some background about the Hands, etc. But I feel like it’s all a little too disjointed for an entire additional arc. So, Arc 7.5, tentatively titled Preludes, is also going to be a thing XD I don’t think I’ll have a fixed schedule for that vs. the main storyline--and, honestly, it’ll probably work more like a collection of one-shots taking place during the timeskip than a proper Arc, but a little more Relevant than stuff that goes in Bonus Content, if that makes sense? It’ll probably be posted alongside at least arcs 8 and 9. Which, incidentally, take place more or less back-to-back and cover a fairly short period of time, but there is A Lot of plot/setup that goes into them. Like. If I tried to do it all as one arc, it’d be at least twice as long as any of the other arcs I’ve done, possibly including Arc Four--certainly over twenty chapters, I think--plus there’s a good (and by good I mean Horrible) place where I can split the arcs, so…we’ll see how that goes.

(…still not sure what to do with Maul, lol. He may just be Sir Darth Not-Appearing-In-This-Fic, or he might turn up in arc 10/11/13, which are the sort of vaguest of the next seven arcs which make up Protectors, in terms of how much I have planned out…)

(*On a semi-related note, I’ve been asked about Inquisitors a couple times in comments lately, and…well, I’ll probably mention this when I reply to the commenter in question, but I figured I’d set it out here as well, in case anyone else was wondering the same thing but doesn’t read other peoples’ comments. Like I’m pretty sure I mentioned at the start, when I plotted out** the bulk of this fic, I hadn’t seen Rebels yet. I’ve since decided to integrate a few characters/plot points (Kallus and Zeb will feature prominently in a subplot in arcs 13 and 14, for example), but, as a rule, characters and plot points from Rebels haven’t been taken into account unless I Really Like Them and/or they’re a good way to fill in a plot hole in a later arc, as with Kallus and Zeb. So, for example, when I include Thrawn, I’m writing more towards Legends!Thrawn in terms of personality, though the two have blended a bit in my head and I do reference specific events in Disney!Thrawn’s personal timeline; and b) more relevantly, I hadn’t made any plans to include Inquisitors, and that…hasn’t really changed. So, I might have them in Preludes, but they almost certainly won’t show up on-page/be super-relevant in the main arcs of the fic, sorry :/ )

(**Loooool I say “Plotted Out” like I’m the kind of author with a Master Plan or at least an outline. But I did have a general idea of the Major Plot Points going in, such as when Rex and Ahsoka would turn up, Luke’s storyline with Lavinia, how many Apprentices I would need to make them work, etc., and I’ve had parts of Arcs 8, 9, and 14 written for like at least two years now, so I know more or less where I’m going--though they’ll be edited once I have more of the connective tissue in place, in case I’ve accidentally Jossed myself…or I change my mind, which is becoming A Possibility with a major event set to happen in Arc 14, so…we’ll see.)

Aaaaaanyway. Exciting times ahead, I hope!

Other Fanfic:

This month, I finally posted another AU outline, woohoo! …I mean, it was a super-niche Nikita/Rebels crossover with a handful of OCs thrown in but who’s counting XD (I do actually intend to finish Let’s Go Steal a Crossover and update the Ventress one at some point but…yeah).

I also put out a Kallus one-shot that I think turned out really well. May do more of those at some point, who knows…

I made some significant progress on our faces like a mirror, as mentioned above! But now I’m waffling a little bit over structure. Basically, the fic covers Bo-Katan’s backstory from the time Satine becomes Duchess, through the Civil War, and eventually leads to Bo’s eventual break with her sister to join Death Watch. It comes in two pretty distinct halves--what I call the Fugitive arc in my notes, which covers the Civil War, and the Breakdown arc, which is everything after her return to Sundari.

So, my original plan was--prologue covering at least part of the final Epic Screaming Match that leads to Bo’s departure; jump back to the Fugitive Arc; and then follow through until we catch up to the prologue, with a coda/epilogue with her and Pre Viszla. The problem is, there’s…really not a lot to connect the two halves??

I’ve got a couple options on what to do about this, but I’m not sure which would be best.

Option One: Keep the structure as-is and just let it be episodic.

Option Two: Keep the structure as-is and find some way to connect the two halves (i.e., a recurring antagonist; I do have an idea of who this could be, but the problem is, it takes away a good chunk of the focus from Bo and Satine’s relationship for the Breakdown Arc…which I don’t really want to do.)

Option Three: Remove the framing device and focus on the Breakdown Arc, and include the Fugitive Arc as flashbacks, since the Breakdown Arc can’t really stand on its own. (The main issue I have with this one is that, if I want to actually write out future chunks of Bo’s life later--meaning, her time with Death Watch, and getting her from TCW to Rebels--I won’t have these flashbacks and I don’t want to change the structure too radically for any eventual sequels? Also, I’m not sure how I feel about a flashback structure for this fic in general…)

Option Four: Remove the framing device and focus on the Fugitive Arc, ending the story with Bo’s return to Sundari. (Two issues with this one--I really do want to go into the Breakdown Arc; that’s where my interest in this story started. Also, due to the constraints of setting and so on, Bo interacts with…like…two canon characters over the course of the Fugitive Arc? And while I don’t really have a problem writing a story that’s essentially a Backstory Epic for a tertiary character, populated by about 90% OCs, I’m not sure anyone actually wants to read that, except as the lead-in to the Breakdown Arc??? But maybe I’m overthinking…)

…so, yeah. Any thoughts/opinions on which option would be Best? (I may make a separate post asking the same question later, but figured I’d lay it all out here, too!)

Also, I’m working on a Secret Santa project, and probably not going to use OFLAM for SWBB, which means I need to come up with and write a different plotline of some kind, so back to the drawing board on that one…

Also also, I do genuinely plan to get Distaff off hiatus At Some Point, especially since I’ve gotten some new comments/responses lately…but given how much else I have on my plate, writing-wise, that probably won’t happen until next year, alas.

Anyway, the long and short of it is--lots of writing planned for this month! Now let’s see how much I actually get done XD

Rebels Midseason Trailer Breakdown

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but here it finally is. With less than 2 weeks before the show starts, I have my rabid superfan analysis of the Rebels Season 4 midseason trailer. Warning: long post as I am very excited for the second half of Rebels and have an extensive knowledge of Star Wars to be applied in situations in which it may not actually be required. Thoughts below the cut:

It starts on Lothal. Everything traces back to Lothal. It’s where our story began, and ultimately, where it will end. The show and the trailer are returning to their roots, back to the messages of family, and home and growth. The trailer shows Ezra’s journey with this, again, beginning with shots and narration from seasons past. It’s a reminder of how it all started and how far he’s come.

Then, it’s Ezra’s experience with the Force. We see him on the Jedi Temple on Lothal- against the backdrop of nothingness and stars and strange white lines that he sees when he meets Yoda for the first time- similar imagery appears later on, in the new footage.

Next, Malachor.

Again, a significant event in Ezra’s life. There began his grapple with the Dark SIde- and as we see in the next shots, it’s continuation. Significant moments are shown, with he Sith Holocron as well as the Bendu, and his attempts to understand the Force, especially with his connections to animals, which, as we know from Season 4, has been important with the Loth Wolves and Loth-cats.

Not to mention we see AHSOKA! It’s been a season and a half without a mention of her, but now she’s in the trailer. It this a coincidence? I think not. It never is. Dave Filoni has promised answers and there are starting to be more and more hints of such a thing. In the flashbacks, there are two shots of her- both involving Anakin or Vader (Malachor where they fought and with the hologram she kept of him (below)).

Back to family. There’s the holo of Ezra and his parents, a shot of Rex, Gregor and Wolffe- who we see return in the new footage. As Qui-gon Jinn once said, everything happens for a reason. Every shot from past seasons is important- each reminder of what was is a hint at what will come to be.

Then SABINE WITH THE DARKSABER- a small but effective reminder of her own journey.

Hera narrates about hope, and again, the trailer returns to the main themes of the show (and Star Wars as a whole): hope and family. For four years, we have watched this small ragtag crew grow together, fight together, inspire and struggle and hope together. These fundamentals are what have made this show so good, and the trailer truly emphasizes this.

Now, is this next shot so innocent? No. Of course not. Those are convors- the birds that have, throughout both Rebels and Clone Wars, symbolized Ahsoka. As this video points out, it as always been present during times where she has had to overcome the greatest struggles in her life.

After that, on to the greater struggle and bigger picture: the fight against the Empire. Ezra and the crew’s losses and wins, their moments of inspiration and fight against the Empire. The importance of what their small team, and hope, can do.

At 1:20, there is the first new footage. Again, as always, it starts on Lothal.

We see characters, new and old! THE CLONES ARE BACK! as hinted by the previous footage. Rex is in a uniform very similar to that of the Rebels on Endor- Filoni has all but confirmed he makes it there. We can only hope.

It’s go time- the words and music carry a sense of urgency and determination.The first words spoken are Ezra’s: “We can do this together” as we again return to the theme of family and the importance of being together.

Kanan speaks next- I don’t think he’s replying to Ezra, but he says “Let’s go get Hera.” THEN HE CUTS OFF HIS HAIR I AM DEVASTATED.

I figure this happens early on, given that it looks like he’s still in the caves of the wolves. There are faint markings on the wall in the background and the knife he’s holding looks like a shard of rock.

Finally, there is Hera, in a prison uniform but looking healthy and alive. She warns the people guarding her that they’re “in terrible trouble.” She knows Kanan is coming- and he’s not messing around. The little white blur in the screencap above is a stormtrooper being thrown out of the window. When it comes to Hera, Kanan shows no mercy. Pity those who stand in between Kanan and Hera; they will never stand a chance.

So, as evidenced by all the previous times in a Lothal Jedi temple, we are probably back in one- it’s the same designs as the before, the same starry backdrop. In the top right corner, there is a drawing of a snake. This likely doesn’t have much significance, but it does remind me of the pictures in the Lothal caves. Additionally, the triangle shape looks kinda like a one-dimensional picture of a holocron, and no, I am not grasping at straws, I am just analyzing every single thing I see and hoping it means something.

And in this temple, what do we see? A convor!!!!! Hints of Ahsoka, NEW hints of Ahsoka AT LAST! Not only that, but it’s the same color convor as the one at the end of Twilight of the Apprentice, the one that appeared just before the last shot of Ahsoka Tano we have to date. Not to mention, of course, that this bird has the same color scheme as the Sister from the Mortis arc- yes, the one who gave her life for Ahsoka. She’s coming y’all. There’s no doubt about it.

Ugh, the hair. Hera hates it, and so do I. However, he does look so young. Less like a man weighed down by tragedy and war. More like the man Hera first knew, when he was more free, more innocent, more open and blatantly in love with her (not that he isn’t now). It’s a callback to what once was, to who he was as Caleb Dume, and what could have been, in simpler times, happy and free and just a man who wanted to escape his past with Hera. The young look and short hair a very effectively conveys this message, and I think they are both realizing: that they should treasure and love each other while they still have the chance, before the war prevents that from ever happening.

Back to action! Loth wolves running while a Loth-cat watches on. They have been important figures, both to the plot of the story and in Ezra’s journey with the Force. I have no doubt they’ll remain important ‘till the very last episode.

EVERYONE IS TOGETHER! The crew, Kallus, Rex and Gregor (Wolffe noticeably absent), Kallus, Hondo, Ketsu, Ryder and what looks like Governor Pryce in handcuffs. What a party. Forces are united! Everyone is brought together for the end, and the series won’t end without a proper goodbye, without doing each character justice.

Fighting on Lothal! An epic battle comes, no doubt waged by Thrawn.

Thrawn appears once in the whole trailer. This makes me wonder how big of a role he’ll play, but then again, he could just be pushed aside in the trailer to make room for the main themes of the show. Either way, it looks like he’s doing his job of making life hard for the Rebels. No matter the size of his role, there’s little doubt he’ll go down without a fight. His story will likely take a major turn, and because of the significance of his character, we’ll probably get some answers as to his fate. He’s too important to be killed off or finished in a comic or a book, so the best choice is in this show… or in whatever Filoni is working on next.

But Lothal is under attack and Thrawn’s assassin is back too. Obviously, this is not going to be an easy fight. I do believe the Rebels will win, but at what cost, I cannot say. Besides Hera, Chopper and Rex, who have been cryptically confirmed to survive to and past the Battle of Endor, I’m not certain of any character’s survival. Remembering that this is supposed to be a children’s show, I don’t think any of the Ghost Crew will die, but Kanan and Ezra are conspicuously absent from the OT, so it’s more or less a given that something will happen and they have to leave. As for the side characters like Kallus, all bets are off. Anything can happen, but I truly believe that Filoni will do his characters and their stories justice, no matter what happens.

This next really cool shot looks like it’s on an Imperial Star Destroyer or base. Judging by Ryder’s presence and the backdrop, it’s probably still on Lothal. Whatever they’re doing- looks like an infiltration mission- I hope it goes well.

MORE CALLBACKS TO THE MORTIS ARC! Ezra’s stance here immediately reminded me of when Anakin had to choose to save Ahsoka or Obi-wan on Mortis win the screencap below. I noticed the way the light permeates the floor, just like the surface of Malachor, and the golden designs on the edges look like the white designs from inside the Lothal Temple. Again, this is a significant parallel with Ezra and Anakin’s struggle with the Light and Dark side of the Force, as well as what occured on Mortis with Ahsoka.

SHEEV PALPATINE ENTERS! He says Ezra’s name; he is a threat, he is taunting him and he appears in a blaze of blue fire.

HOWEVER he’s not in the flesh!

This shot is really, really brief, but I slowed it down to see better. Ezra, while engulfed in the same blue fire, is in the Lothal temple: he’s in the stormtrooper armor from earlier, and the backdrop is the same too. It took me like 930 times watching the trailer to pick up on this. But there now is the bigger threat- the Emperor knows who Ezra is, can probably sense his past (possibly current?) struggles with the Dark Side, and wants Ezra to join him. I’m not sure if they’ll ever meet face-to-face, but it could mean that Thrawn has orders to capture, not kill Ezra.

I think this is the King of the Wolves.

Okay, I have no idea what’s actually happening here. Maybe this wolf is like the Bendu- maybe it has answers, maybe it can guide Ezra, but ultimately, I have no idea of the true significance of the wolves. We’ll have answers soon enough though. 12 days left!

Here is Rukh fighting Kanan! I think is this fairly early on as Hera is still in her prison uniform from earlier (pictured below). The weapon he is using looks like an Electrostaff, like the ones General Grievous’ guards used.

Then, there are shots of more fighting (and Hera being the best pilot in the galaxy) with everyone, from Death troopers to Hondo, Sabine has Ezra’s lightsaber, and the Imperial base flies so that’s exciting BUT THEN

THE BIGGEST AND MOST OBVIOUS REFERENCE TO MORTIS: THIS GIANT MURAL. Given the Lothal mounds behind the Father and that Ezra is still in his stormtrooper armor, this is in the Lothal temple. On the shoulder of the Sister is the Convor, with the same colors as before. I really think, besides Ahsoka, that we will get to see the bigger picture of the Force, as we have with the wolves and the Bendu, and in the Clone Wars with the Mortis arc. Again analyzing shapes, I noticed that there are a lot of circles in this design, similar to the white designs in the previous shots of Ezra in the temple. The left hands of all three figures are circled too- but with my current knowledge, I have no idea if that actually means something. Another continuation in this design is the way the light floods through the background- again, like on Malachor, on Mortis and a little like the stars in the background of the temple.

You know, I’m not sure who this is, but if you zoom in, you can see a nose sticking out from the cowl of the cloak. I’m going to say it’s Palpatine. It’s an identifiable feature.

Ezra says: “I know what we have to do know” which answers his question from the FIRST Season 4 trailer, where he was wondering what to do and how to fight. Ezra has new confidence, and I believe he found it with the Force. The majority of the preceding shots have been centered around his relationship with the Force, and his trust in in could lead to the answers he seeks; whatever they may be.

WOLVES IN THE BACKGROUND EPIC AND CONFIDENT EZRA WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

I’m still not sure. He says “One last lesson” which is really vague and there is so much we don’t know about the wolves. But I truly believe Ezra gains knowledge from the Force and the wolves; there is such great mystery here. Hopefully, all will become clear soon enough.

Then the trailer ends! Really, the overarching message seems to be of family, of hope, and of Ezra’s journey with Lothal and the Force. It’s beautifully done, and I can’t wait to see it played out in the rest of the season. Two weeks to go!

Fandom Meme: Rogue One

The first character I fell in love with: I kind of came into this movie already in love with characters like Leia Organa, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa, but I don’t know if they count? So errr Jyn I suppose.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: All of them??????????? Like I thought that because I was going in expecting them all to die, I’d be able to keep enough emotional distance to make it through the film without a breakdown but NOPE.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: wow one doesn’t really exist??????????????

The character I love that everyone else hates: I really love the way Saw’s character was built up in the expanded canon universe before this movie, and felt it worked. We saw him in what had to be his 20s or 30s learning guerilla tactics from Ahsoka, Anakin and the 501st, and how the death of his sister really affected him. We met him again in Catalyst, and learned of how he formed a rebel cell there. In Rebels season 2 he and his cell is mentioned by Agent Kallus, and Zeb reacts in a way that makes it clear he understands who Saw is. In Bloodline Leia is asked to justify the actions of Saw and his rebels and she just responds by getting angry and deflecting. So before the film happened we had a very clear picture of this man forming already, and I thought the man we saw in the movie fit what we had heard before. Then Rebels season 3 gave us a two part episode about him to further cement the way he is and I just.. ugh the novelization of Rogue One has so many good moments about Jyn seeing him as more a father to her than Galen ever was or could be, and how much she really does love him and he loves her and it was just…… yeah. So I am going to go with Saw.

The character I would shag anytime: If Jyn Erso came back from beyond the grave and then wanted to do the do, I would not say no. I also would be rather pleased if Mon Mothma found herself in this dimension and was interested.

The character I’d want to be like: All of them? Honestly, there is at least one aspect of every single Rebel character I would love to embody myself.

The character I’d slap: Orson Krennic. Also please Orson no, Galen isn’t going to want to make out work with you if you murder his wife and keep him trapped, I mean seriously dude remember how he spooked and ran when all you were doing was lying to him about what he was working on and surveilling his home? What made you think stepping up that gross evil creepy factor was the way to get him on your side? Also while I am slapping Imps, Tarkin. (I’d try to slap Vader as well but I doubt he’d feel it through his helmet). Oh and Draven possibly (I look forward to inevitably seeing him and Hera have words at some point on Rebels, there is no way she will get along with him)

Favorite character: Jyn

What are my favorite things about the fandom.: I have been so pleasantly surprised by how well recieved this movie was by just about every corner of the Star Wars fandom I engage with.

Who are my three favorite characters.: Oh no this is too hard.

Who are my three least favorite characters.: Ok I don’t dislike them in the bad character sense (they are very good characters) but in the as people sense? Tarkin, Krennic, and oh let’s go with someone who isn’t an Imp.. oh! The tentacle monster I am super uncomfortable with, the Bor Gullet.
