a/n: untitled beach fic; another shot at writing smut; 18+ only
pairings: Natasha Romanoff x Submissive!Reader
warnings: some degradation; light choking; cursing; dry(?) humping...
----------------
"You haven't looked at me the entire time we've been here, you know?"
The water is suddenly ice-cold and your muscles bunch up into one big knot. You turn to look at Natasha for the first time since you pulled up to the beach and the realization that she would be in nothing but a bikini for the entire day smacked you in the face like a stray frisbee.
"What?" You try to sound offended. Natasha holds your gaze. Your freshly sunscreened face begins to burn. You look back towards the shore where the rest of your friends are tanning, talking, and laughing. Steve chucks a football far enough to make Bucky sprint after it, but he trips over a kid's abandoned sandcastle head-first. You thought you could find reprieve in the water after a few minutes of just staring at your toes in the sand while Sam talked about bar-hopping last night. You watched Natasha follow you into the water the same way a bleeding seal watches a circling shark's fin.
"Haven't I?" You ask, your eyes briefly passing over Natasha's form. She watches you flounder in the water. You're wishing and hoping for a wave to swallow you whole right now.
"I wouldn't have said anything if that were true."
"Right," you run a shaky hand through your hair and collect yourself enough to look Natasha in the eyes once more. She's closer now, your eyes dive into the shrinking space between you and her.
"Did I do something to upset you?"
Your eyes resurface, landing on hers, "no, not at all!"
Natasha moves closer, you fight the urge to look away, you can't let her think you don't like her.
Because you do, you do like her. So much so that you can't focus on her in that bikini for more than mere seconds. Any longer and you just might faint, or melt into the sand, or both.
You're in a staring contest with her now, you're determined to count every speck of amber floating in her deep green eyes and--
Natasha is moving even closer now, this time she goes left--then right--then left again--your eyes track her perfectly, not once straying away from her pupils.
"Huh," she tilts her head in amusement as a small wave swells and rolls through you both before crashing onto shore. You still don't break eye contact, only letting your eyes bounce around the borderlands of her irises.
"You can't look at me, can you?" Natasha smirks and you flinch, finally blinking.
"I'm looking at you right now?"
"At my eyes, yes," another wave rolls by, a bit bigger than the last, "but only my eyes."
You swallow down a wad of nerves. Natasha is a riptide ready to pull you under. You’re thinking about how hard you need to push against the Earth below you to get out of the water as fast as humanly possible.
“I’m just—“
“Being respectful, I know baby,” Natasha cuts you off—you’re too stuck on how easily those words rolled off her tongue to notice that her bare torso is only a hair away from touching yours.
Another wave, even bigger this time, throws Natasha off balance, sending her right into you. Your arms quickly shoot out to catch her while her own arms hook around your neck to steady herself. You’re actually looking at her, scanning her body for anything that can tell you this is just a fluke. Your mind is screaming at you to let her go and bolt but your body betrays you by keeping her close.
By the time you both collided, the water had risen high enough to kiss the space right below your chests. To the rest of the beach, you both basically look floating heads. You admire Natasha’s profile as she looks out towards the beach for a few moments before turning her attention on you. You barely catch the stormy look in her eyes before you’re reminded of her arms around your neck when her nails graze the base of your skull.
“Do I make you nervous?” Her tone is dark now. Your body goes rigid while your mind fumbles around for an answer. You nod, no use in lying now, not when Natasha could probably feel your heart beating against your rib cage since she’s so close.
“Say it.”
“Yes, you make me nervous,” you do a piss-poor job of trying to keep your voice from trembling with want. Natasha’s lips curl into a smile and she chuckles. You start seeing stars.
“Don’t be,” Natasha starts to pull you impossibly closer and you meet her halfway. She only gives you a few seconds to process the fact that she’s kissing you before she slides her thigh between your legs. Your spine feels a chill under the hot sun.
“Do you wanna be good for me?”
You couldn’t look any dopier, nodding with your jaw hanging low.
“Words baby.”
“Yes,” you sound dumber than you look.
“Then start humping.”
You cough like you just swallowed a gallon of saltwater, “what?”
“I know you heard me.”
“Right…right now?” You sputter, frantically looking back towards the beach, “in front of everyone?”
Natasha roughly grabs you by the chin to pull your attention back to her.
“Start. Humping.”
Her hand lowers to clamp around your throat and that makes your knees buckle. Your arms tighten around her waist and your body dips down until you feel her thigh against your core. You let out a surprised grunt and Natasha smirks while she watches you begin to find a rhythm. It feels good, too good to stop. Your eyes flutter and threaten to roll back into your head, your body overwhelmed by how much you want this, how much you wanted to do this for a while.
“You look deliciously pathetic you know that right? Humping my leg for everyone to see,” Natasha mocks as your pace hastens. You rest your forehead on her shoulder to try and keep yourself afloat.
“Fuck,” you hiss, grinding harder and faster against Natasha’s thigh. You’re not even going to chance a look to see if anyone is actually watching you both. The longer this goes on, the less you seem to care anyway. You litter the sun kissed window of her cleavage with sloppy, desperate, open-mouthed kisses. Your hands groping and grabbing at her waist, her thighs, her ass, anything that can help you get a better grip and bring you as close as you can get to her without having to jump into her skin.
“So needy—like you’ve been dreaming about this,” she teases, you blush. Her hand glides from the back of your head to the tip of your chin and lifts it, “look at me.”
You obey without a second thought, a small whimper escaping your lips when you do.
“That’s it,” she patronizingly coos as her nails dig a little deeper into your jaw, it stings in the best way.
When you finally look around, you realize the water isn’t covering you as much as it was a bit ago.
“Shit, the tide—” your movements start to slow, but there’s no chance you’re stopping.
“Better hurry then,” Natasha’s hand on your jaw moves down to your throat to give it another squeeze, “you want to cum for me, don’t you?”
“Yes,” you manage to choke out, your whole body is buzzing.
“Then don’t keep me waiting, or else everyone will get to see what a pitiful fucking sight you are right now.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” you don’t waste another second to quicken the movement of your hips.  Before you know it, your senses are electrified, the pressure against your cunt becomes borderline overwhelming.
“I’m—I’m close—" You stammer against her neck, your hips bucking erratically against her thigh. You feel her laugh rumbling through your lips when you open your eyes and—
“Fuck.”
“Whiny little mutt,” Natasha scoffs.
“No, there’s…there’s a wave coming right at us,” your eyes widen but you don’t stop, you’re too close to give up. You keep going, growing more frenzied as the wave swells to the biggest one you’ve seen since you been here.
You only get moments to appreciate the high you worked so hard to chase before you have to throw yourself and Natasha under the so it doesn’t wipe you out.
You both come up laughing, Natasha pulls you in for a kiss, smiling against each other’s lips.

“Can you get off my Hinge already, Y/N?” George's annoyed voice cut through the blaring music of the pub as he tried (and failed) to snatch his phone out of your hand.
“I'm trying to find you a girlfriend, Georgie,” you retorted, laughing as you dodged his attempts.
You were currently squished into a booth in the pub, sitting next to George, both of you a few drinks in (though you were definitely more drunk than him), swiping away on his Hinge profile and bickering like you two used to back in uni.
Having just moved to London a few weeks ago, tonight was a reunion of sorts. You were meeting up with George and a bunch of other friends from your uni days.
You and him had met in the first week of school, initially sitting next to each other in class, which turned into late-night study sessions and eventually blossomed into a close friendship.
George rolled his eyes. “Oh please, like you’re any better at this than I am.”
“Better at what? Being single or being hopeless at dating?” you shot back, smirking.
“How long has it been since your last relationship?” George challenged, raising an eyebrow at you.
You scoffed and looked back at him. “And how long has it been since you’ve been laid?” you teased, swiping left on yet another profile.
“Oh, trust me, Y/N, I get action,” George shot back, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Oh please, the only action you’ve seen is from your right hand,” you said, laughing at him.
“Well, that’s a lot coming from you,” George countered. “You haven’t dated since that prick from uni.”
“I actually enjoy being single,” you said, shrugging. “All you do is cry about it. You always say you want a girlfriend, but you turn down every girl that approaches you.”
George snorted. “Say that to the pint of ice cream you finished last week in under an hour while watching that chick movie and bawling your eyes out about wanting a boyfriend.”
“Whatever,” you huffed, turning back to his phone. “Oh, you got a match! I’m gonna message her.”
“Absolutely not!” George exclaimed, finally managing to pry his phone out of your hands. “Maybe if you were a little less picky, you wouldn’t be single.”
You looked at him in shock and surprise. “Really? You’re gonna talk to me about being picky?”
“You say that, but you’re the one with the mile-long checklist, not everyone can be as perfect as me, Y/N.” George retorted, shaking his head.
“If you’re so perfect, then maybe we should just date, Georgie,” you said jokingly, nudging him with your shoulder.
The both of you went silent for a moment, staring blankly at each other. Then, simultaneously, you shuddered at the thought. “No!” you both said in unison, laughing.
“God, that’d be like dating my sister,” George said, acting outwardly disgusted at your joke.
You stuck your tongue out at him, making a face.
You two continue your bickering, the atmosphere in the pub buzzing with laughter and chatter from your group of friends. After a while, your friends scatter around the pub, leaving just you and George in the booth. Just as you're deep in banter, an unfamiliar voice interrupts you two.
“Hey man,” a voice said, and you looked up to see a man with blonde curly hair approaching your booth. George got up to greet him, and from where you’re sitting, it’s very obvious that he was quite drunk himself.
"Chris, mate, how drunk are you already?" George asked, as if he had read your mind, with a chuckle, clapping Chris on the back.
Chris laughed, his grin widening. "Chip's pub golf videos always destroy me," he replied, his words slightly slurred as he swayed a little.
Chris glanced over at you, his eyes momentarily focusing as he took in your presence. "Hope I’m not interrupting," he said teasingly, turning back to George, flashing a mischievous grin.
George chuckled and shook his head. "Nah, mate, you're good. Go get yourself a drink and join us." Chris headed off to the bar, and George sat back down.
Chris returned with his drink and slid into the booth, his easy smile and sparkling eyes catching your attention.
“So, who’s your friend?” Chris asked, nodding towards you with a playful grin.
“Y/N, this is Chris, the flatmate,” George introduced, gesturing between the two of you. “Chris, this is Y/N, the best friend.”
“Hey, nice to meet you,” you greeted Chris warmly.
Chris grinned back at you. “George is wrong, you know. I’m the best friend.”
“No, you’re wrong. I've known him longer, so I am his only best friend,” you say, as you laugh at him.
“Don’t need to fight, guys,” George interjects, “There’s enough of me to go around.”
“That’s just not right,” Chris replies, ignoring George. “I live with him. Do you know how much shit I put up with? Surely that makes me his best friend.”
You chuckle, “Okay…but have you had him shotgun a can an hour before a final, puke all over your bed, and then have to clean it up and make sure he gets to campus in time?”
Chris grins, “Alright, but have you had to deal with his shit love life? Or lack thereof? And like have had to listen to him complain all the time.”
You exasperatedly add, “Yeah! Actually, I have,” you say, nodding at Chris.
You turn to George. “Honestly, George mate, you're a mess. I don’t even want to be your best friend anymore.”
Chris nods in agreement. “Yeah, man, you’re kind of a pain in the ass.”
George looks between the two of you, bewildered. “What the fuck is happening?”
You and Chris exchange a look. “Maybe we should become best friends and ditch George,” Chris suggests, winking at you.
“Guys, can we go back to both of you fighting over me?” George says, and you and Chris burst out laughing at him.
You find yourself feeling instantly drawn to Chris's charm. After a bit of small talk, you learn that Chris had been out for a shoot and decided to drop by the pub where George was once he finished. You had heard George talk about Chris before and all the antics they’d gotten up to, but you hadn’t paid much heed to it until now.
And as the night went on and you got increasingly drunker, you found yourself sitting closer to Chris. George already knew this about you; you always got increasingly flirty and bolder when you were drunk—a stark contrast to your sober self.
Usually, George was always one of your victims, jokingly hitting on him to piss him off, and he also always had to keep you away from creepy men when you were drunk. But now, with Chris in the mix, George honestly did not know what to say at the scene in front of him.
(A/N: I have no game whatsoever. Even if I did pull in the past, I was so drunk that I genuinely don’t remember. I did my best I promise)
“You’re pretty cute for someone who’s friends with George,” you say to Chris, a playful smile on your lips as you take another sip of your cocktail.
Chris grins and leans in closer. “And you’re pretty hot for someone who hangs out with him.”
You laugh, inching closer to him and playfully touching his bicep. "I know, I'm just naturally irresistible," you tease, giving him a sly look that hints at something more.
Chris chuckles, his eyes twinkling. “Well, I believe it. If you weren’t George’s friend, I’d have made a move on you the second I walked in.”
You raise an eyebrow, leaning in so your lips are just inches from his ear. “Who says you can’t make a move now?” you whisper, your breath warm against his skin. “Who knows, tonight might be your night.”
Chris’s breath hitches, his gaze darkening. “Is that so?”
George groans. “You two are disgusting. Chris, stop hitting on her. Y/N get away from him!”
You brush off George, leaning even closer into Chris’s touch. “Ignore him, he’s no fun.”
Chris says, "He's just jealous that I’ve got the attention of someone this beautiful," he murmurs back, his lips brushing lightly against your earlobe, his voice low and you hear George scoff in the back.
George rolls his eyes dramatically. “I can’t take any more of this. You two are unbearable.” He stands up, shaking his head. “I’m going to go close out our tab. You better be five feet apart when I get back.”
As George walks away, you and Chris are left alone, practically glued together at this point. “Looks like it’s just us now,” Chris murmurs, his hand migrating to your thigh, his touch sending a shiver down your spine.
You smile coyly, leaning closer to him. “And what do you plan to do now that it’s just us?” you tease, your voice laced with playful anticipation.
Chris chuckles softly, his breath warm against your ear. “When George told me about you, he didn’t mention how incredibly sexy you are. If I had to be around someone as gorgeous as you, I wouldn’t be able to control myself.”
Your heart flutters at his words, and you feel a rush of desire. “Well, it looks like you’re doing a pretty good job of controlling yourself so far,” you reply, your fingers playing with the collar of his shirt.
Chris’s eyes darken with desire. “Who says I’m trying to control myself?” he murmurs, his lips hovering just above yours, lips so close that they are almost touching.
Before things could escalate further between you and Chris, George returned, breaking the intense moment. "Okay, I think it's time to get you two home," he announced.
Despite your protests, he manages to pull you off of Chris. As you stood up, the effects of the alcohol hit you, causing you to stumble. George quickly steadied you, his arm wrapped around your waist to keep you from falling over.
Realizing it was late and knowing you were in no state to go home alone, George insisted you crash at his place, which was closer than yours and the three of you hailed a cab back to the boy’s flat.
Once there, George quickly dumps Chris in his room, before he sets you up in his own bed. He offers you some of his clothes to change out of your outfit and he opts to sleep on the couch for the night.
As you drifted towards sleep, the alcohol slowly wearing off, you couldn't help but rethink the events of the night. All your actions start to blur now, though a wave of embarrassment washes over you. You knew there would be consequences to face in the morning, but for now your body needed sleep.
-------⋆✧⋆-------
The next morning, you wake up with a pounding headache, the hazy memories of the previous night lingering in your mind. As the realization of your interaction with Chris sets in, all you wanted to do was bury yourself six feet under.
You stumble out of George’s bed, groaning softly as your head throbs. Dressed in George's oversized clothes, you made your way to the kitchen, clutching your head, desperately in need of coffee.
As you enter, you freeze at the sight of Chris, who’s already there, shuffling around in the kitchen.
He’s dressed in grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt, his hair tousled and the hangover evident on his face. You catch a glimpse of his abs when he reaches up to a cupboard, and despite your headache, you can’t help but stare for a moment, your brain going to dangerous places.
Chris turns around and spots you, offering a weak smile. You look away slightly embarrassed, fearing that you were caught staring. “Morning,” he says, his voice hoarse as he clears his throat.
“Morning,” you reply, trying to muster a smile despite the awkward tension that has settled into the air.
There’s a long, uncomfortable silence as you both avoid each other’s eyes, the memory of your flirtatious behavior lingering between you. Chris pours himself a glass of water, and you take the opportunity to grab a mug for coffee, hoping the caffeine will help clear your head. “Do you want a cup as well?” you ask, trying to break the silence.
“Huh? No, thanks,” he responds, clearly drawing himself out of wherever he had zoned out to for a minute.
“So, uh,” Chris begins hesitantly, stopping for a moment when you both hear George stirring on the couch. Chris gestures toward the balcony, and you grab your coffee and follow him outside. Once you two are there, you lean against the railing, both of you awkward, neither knowing what to say.
Chris is the first to break the silence, rubbing the back of his neck. “…last night…was something...I guess we were pretty drunk.”
“Yeah,” you agree quickly, trying to downplay your embarrassment. “Pretty drunk.”
He chuckles nervously. “I don’t usually… you know, act like that.”
“Me neither,” you admit, feeling a blush creep up your cheeks. “It was just the alcohol, I guess.”
“Definitely,” he nods, relief evident in his expression. “We can just, uh, forget about it, right?”
“Absolutely,” you say a bit too quickly. But, you feel your heart drop a little, though you don’t know why. Him wanting to not acknowledge what happened yesterday (though it was nothing) makes you slightly upset, but you don’t let it show on your face. You bury your face in your coffee, avoiding his gaze.
It was insane how comfortable you two were around each other last night, and now the air was replaced with this heavy awkwardness that neither of you knew how to break. And the worst part is you couldn’t even remember all that you did yesterday (But you're sure George won't let you forget).
“So, um, any plans for today?” Chris asks, trying to make small talk and pulling you out of your thoughts.
“Um, what? No, nothing. Just gonna get back to my place and crash,” you say, shaking your head. “You?” you ask him.
“Same,” he says. You nod in response, but neither of you knows how to continue. You both stand there, sipping your drinks and stealing glances at each other, the awkwardness palpable.
“So I should go,” you say, trying to get out of that situation as quickly as possible. Chris just nods, and you step back into the apartment, making a beeline for George’s room, just wanting to get out of there and back to your own space as quickly as possible.
All you can think is, what the hell is wrong with you? You weren’t usually like this with people…what is happening?
-------⋆✧⋆-------
After that day, George teased you endlessly about what happened with Chris. Each time, you brushed him off, ignoring his jabs, saying you didn’t want to talk about it or that you didn’t remember what happened, unwilling to revisit the embarrassing memories of that night.
You’d run into Chris a few times when you were over at the flat with George, but those interactions weren’t any better. Your interactions with Chris went from awkward to him just plain ignoring your presence now, and you didn’t know what you did wrong. Combined with how embarrassed you still felt about your actions, you decided it was better to just ignore him as well.
George would drop you knowing looks whenever that happened, but when he saw that you really didn’t want to talk about it, he eventually dropped the topic.
Until today, that was.
“I’m not feeling up to it,” you tell George, speaking with him over the phone.
“Come on, it’ll be fun. Just a movie night with some friends,” George tries to persuade you.
“I don’t know, George. I’m just not in the mood,” you reply, feeling a mix of anxiety and reluctance.
George sighs, knowing exactly why you’re hesitant. “Look, I get that things are awkward between you and Chris. But avoiding each other isn’t going to make it any better. We’re all friends here. Just come over, watch a movie, and relax. You don’t have to talk to him if you don’t want to.”
You hesitate, biting your lip. “I just... I feel so embarrassed about everything. I don’t want to make things weird.”
“See, I don’t know exactly what’s going on with the both of you, but I can tell you’re overthinking it. Things are only as awkward as you make them. We’ll have a good time, I promise. And if it gets too much, you can always leave. Just give it a chance, yeah?”
You sigh, feeling the weight of his words. “You’re right. I’m just overthinking. It’s not a big deal. I’ll see you in a bit.”
“Great! I’ll see you soon,” George says, the excitement evident in his voice.
And that is how you found yourself sitting on the floor in George’s flat, leaning up against the couch with "The Hangover" playing on the TV.
You were bundled up in a blanket, surrounded by scattered cushions, with the smell of popcorn in the air. George was sitting on the couch just behind you, lazily flicking popcorn at your head, which you returned by swatting him on the knee.
“Seriously, George, you’re worse than a child,” you scolded, turning around to look at him as another popcorn kernel hit you on the forehead.
“Can’t help it,” he replied with a grin. You whacked him on the thigh this time, but he still threw another piece your way.
It was just George and the Arthurs for now. Despite your cold conversations with Chris, you couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit disappointed when George mentioned that Chris would be running late. Even with the weird energy between you two, you were kind of maybe hoping to see him today.
You were enjoying yourself, though. You’d met Arthur Hill a few times before and got along really well, and this was your first time meeting Mr. Television (as George liked to call him), and you were having a great time with the boys.
You pull your focus away from George and instead decide to just watch the movie when you hear the door open, and your eyes dart to the entrance. Chris walks in, dressed in dark cargos and a black sweatshirt, his curls messy from the day and it made him look a little rugged, and all you could think about was how good you thought he looked.
He swings his backpack onto the floor and starts taking off his coat, before he greeted everyone.
Your heart skips a beat at how effortlessly attractive he looked. Despite the cold vibes he had been giving you this whole time, you couldn’t deny your attraction towards him.
Outwardly, you were trying to be cool about it, but inwardly, you were itching to know why he was acting like this. You give him a tight-lipped smile as you make brief eye contact, but he quickly looks away, heading to his room.
George noticed the exchange and shook his head slightly. You shot him a look that said ‘stop it’, but you knew he’d bring this up later.
After a few minutes, Chris joins you all, settling on the floor next to you while the others remain on the couch. Other than the occasional instances where you pass him the popcorn, he avoids eye contact, but you can sometimes feel his gaze on you, especially when you and George bicker in loud whispers.
You reach for the coffee table, grabbing a can of seltzer, about to take a sip, only for George to snatch it out of your hand. “George!” you exclaim, swatting him on the arm before you wipe away the few drops of the drink that he managed to spill on your shirt.
You think you hear a chuckle from Chris, but when you turn to look in the direction of the sound, his eyes are glued to the TV.
After a bit, Chris gets up and heads to the kitchen. When he returns, he silently hands you a drink. You take it with a small, surprised smile, touched by the sweet gesture even if things between you two are still a little awkward. "Thanks," you murmur.
He nods in response, his genuine smile making your heart flutter before his eyes flick away from yours, and you feel yourself melt.
As the credits roll on the third film, George nudges you and suddenly pulls you into his room.
“What the fuck is going on with you and Chris?” George asks bluntly, shutting the door behind him.
You sigh, running a hand through your hair. “Honestly, I have no idea. After that day at the pub, it’s been so weird. I don’t even know the guy, and I feel like he hates me or something. Is he like this with everyone he just meets?”
George frowns, looking apologetic. “Not really… Normally, you can’t get him to shut up.”
“I get such cold vibes from him,” you admit, frustration seeping into your voice. “What did I do wrong?… Whatever, I don’t care, but its annoying.” You pause, then add with a small, reluctant smile, “It doesn’t help that every time I look at him, I drool.”
George responds, slightly shocked, “I—I’m sorry, what?”
You roll your eyes and say, “I’ve been single for so long that I’m even attracted to your shitty friend.”
George laughs, shaking his head. “He can get on your nerves, but he’s not that bad. But, he can be a little socially challenged around people he—”
George stops mid-sentence, seeming to have a moment of realization, his expression shifting. “Huh.”
“What? What’s wrong?” you ask, confused.
“Nothing, don’t worry about it,” he says quickly, disappearing out of the room before you can press further.
You stand there confused for a second before you return to the living room, where Arthur Hill and Arthur TV was tidying up. You decide to join them, looking around, wondering where George and Chris had suddenly disappeared to.
You help them gather the empty bottles and snack wrappers, making small talk. Just as you're finishing up, George and Chris reappear, both looking shady as hell, whispering to each other.
You look at George, giving him a pointed look. "What was that about?" you whisper, nodding toward Chris, who was leaning against the kitchen counter with the Arthurs, laughing about something.
George shrugs, trying to play it cool. "Nothing, just guy talk."
You give him a look. "Tell me."
"Really, it was nothing," he insists.
You roll your eyes, annoyed. "Fine, whatever, don’t tell me. I need to get home anyway, it’s getting late."
George quickly checks the time on his phone. "It’s almost midnight. Why don’t you just sleep here?"
"I just wanna be back in my own bed. At midnight is not that late, and I barely live like a 15 min walk away," you explain to him.
"You can just as easily walk home in the morning," he says.
Before you can protest, he continues, "You know what, fine. But I don’t want you going home alone." He turns toward the kitchen and shouts, "Chris! Do you mind driving Y/N back home? I would do it myself…but can’t drive mate."
Chris whips around, looking between the two of you, clearly flustered at George’s request. "Uh, sure, no problem."
You quickly interject, "It's okay, I can get home on my own. I don’t want to trouble you."
Chris clears his throat. "It's no trouble," he assures you, grabbing his keys. "Let's go."
You grab your stuff and walk out the door with him. The ride down in the elevator is silent. You play with your nails, trying to avoid his gaze, while he shifts uncomfortably beside you. When you reach the car, Chris opens the door for you, and you thank him. "Thanks, Chris."
"Don’t thank me yet," he jokes as you both buckle up. "I’ve only had my UK license for a month now, so we’ll see how this goes."
You look at him, slightly alarmed. "Seriously? Get me out of the car."
He laughs, and you join in. "I know how to drive, I just haven’t driven much since I moved to London."
Some of the tension eases, and you both relax a bit. He hands you his phone. "Can you enter your address into the GPS?"
You do, and as he starts driving Chris glances at you, "So, why did you move to London?"
You smile, happy to have a conversation starter. "Work, mostly. And also ‘cause I have friends here.”
He nods. “So, you liking London so far?”
You nod, looking at him as you speak. “Yeah, I like it. But the city gets overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes I just wanna run back home.”
Chris nods in agreement. “Same, especially when I miss my family. And I get it, sometimes you need to get away from George.”
You chuckle, wanting to keep the conversation going. “Be honest with me… how have you not killed him yet?”
He laughs, responding, “I won’t lie, I’ve plotted his murder many a times.”
You both laugh, and the conversation continues, light-hearted and easy. For the first time in like a month, the conversation between you two feels natural. And before you know it, you’d reached your apartment.
"Thanks for the ride, Chris," you say, unbuckling your seatbelt.
"No problem," he replies, his smile genuine. The air goes silent as you both stare at each other.
"Umm... goodnight," you say, quickly getting out of the car, feeling a tad bit awkward.
"Goodnight," he responds, and you gently close the door.
He waits until you're inside the building before driving off, and for the first time, you feel a warm, hopeful sensation in your chest and you can’t seem to wipe away the smile on your face the whole way up to your flat.
-------⋆✧⋆-------
The next day, you and George meet for dinner after you’re done with work. “I can’t believe he’s engaged”, you say as you move your food around on your plate, letting out a frustrated sigh.
“Why do you care?” George asks between bites of his burger. “You hated him by the end of your relationship.”
“I know, but why does someone like him get to be happy?” you sighed. “I’m just tired of being single. Why is it so hard to find someone half decent?”
“Maybe you’re looking in the wrong places,” George says, trying to sound all philosophical.
You raise an eyebrow. “What are you on about?”
He shrugs, laughing as he says, “Maybe you should date Chris.”
You almost choke on your drink. “Chris? Really? Chris? We can barely hold a conversation!”
George smirks. “Didn’t you say you guys got along fine last night? And don’t get me started on drinks last month. And don’t lie to me…you think he’s hot,” he says, making a fake gag face.
“What? No, I don’t,” you protest. “I might be desperate, George, but not desperate enough to date your friends.”
“What’s wrong with dating one of my friends?” George mocks hurt.
“I was kinda hoping that once I got a boyfriend, I just wouldn’t have to see you anymore,” you joke.
George clutches his chest dramatically. “Ouch!”
The drive with him the other day was fine, more than fine and he was kind of sweet actually. You laugh, but the thought of dating Chris stays on your mind, an idea that you might not be all that opposed to. -------⋆✧⋆-------
A week had passed since your conversation with George, and despite trying not to let it affect you too much, you couldn't deny still feeling on cloud nine after that drive with Chris (even if it was barely 10 minutes long).
You and Chris were now following each other on social media. You'd occasionally chat or reply to each other's stories, gradually warming up to each other. You found yourself craving more time alone with him, curious about what it would be like to get to know him better.
But right now, you were looking forward to a quiet weekend in, finally getting to that book you had been putting off for weeks now. With a cozy blanket wrapped around you and a hot cup of tea, you settle onto your couch, eager to dive into your book.
Just as you start to get lost in the pages, a notification pops up on your screen. You peek over at your phone and see a text message from George.
George: Hello best friend Y/N: What do you want? George: Wow. Warm welcome Y/N: Fine. Hiii Georgieeee….What do you want? George: So you know how you are the smartest, strongest person I know 🥺 Y/N: Just spit it out 🙄 George: Can you please come over and help me build that dresser I ordered for my room? Y/N: And there it is... George: So..?  Y/N: No, don’t want to. George: Pleaseeeeee….I’ll buy you food Y/N: No George: Come on, please 😩 Y/N: No….you’re gonna make me do all the work George: I won’t...and I’ll throw in dessert  Y/N: You’re impossible  George: 👀 Y/N: Fine….See you in 10  George: 🫡🙇
With a sigh, you set your book aside and started getting ready to head over to George's place. Not bothering to change out of your comfy sweats, you threw on a jacket and made your way out.
When you arrived at George's flat, you knocked on the door and waited. To your surprise, Chris answered, looking equally surprised to see you. "Hey, Y/N. What are you doing here?"
“George asked me to come over, said he needed help building his dresser”, you explain, and Chris steps aside, letting you step inside.
Chris says, “Hmm, he asked me to help as well, after complaining for a straight 5 mins about not wanting to do it on his own.”
"That little bitch," you huffed, pulling out your phone from your pocket.
Y/N: Where the fuck are you!!??? George: Sorry emergency Y/N: What?  George: Please help a guy out Y/n: Why!? It’s your dresser! George: Chris will help Y/N: Wait George: Bye
You breathed out in frustration, realizing all too well what George was trying to do. Deep down, though, you were somewhat glad to have some time alone with Chris. Fingers crossed you'd be able to hold a conversation today.
You huffed and shoved your phone in your pocket, then turned to face Chris. "Yep, he's ditched us, the bastard," you said, looking back up at Chris who was watching you with an amused expression.
Chris chuckled, and you felt a bit self-conscious. "What?"
"The Powerpuff Girls?" he asked, a small smile curling up on his lips.
"What? I'm here to build furniture, not walk a red carpet," you replied, glancing down at your pajamas, trying to appear nonchalant but secretly cursing yourself for not dressing better. Chris just laughed, shaking his head.
“Great…it’s just the two of us." you said, catching Chris's attention as he looked at the unpacked table pieces that George had left for you.
Chris raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on his lips. "You act like it's a bad thing."
You chuckled, picking up a screwdriver. "Let's just survive this project together first."
"Survive? Geez…It's just an Ikea dresser," Chris teased, walking towards the scattered pieces.
"Yeah, but have you ever tried assembling furniture with George? He pulls everything out of the box, doesn’t organize anything by the way, then he just gives up and leaves you to figure stuff out," you vented, holding up a loose screw you found on the floor a good distance from the table for emphasis.
Chris laughed, shaking his head. "Can't say that I have. Lucky for me you’re here to pick up the pieces," he joked lamely, and you couldn't help but roll your eyes, letting out a small laugh at his attempt.
"Let’s just build this stupid thing," you said, walking towards the mess.
Chris chuckled. "Yes, ma'am," he replied, looking around for the instruction manual.
Chris sighed in frustration, looking through the jumbled pieces. "Damn, where did George put those instructions?"
"Knowing George, he probably already threw out the instructions with the outer box," you said, half-jokingly. You fear you might be right, shuffling through everything and not finding the booklet.
You sit on the ground and try to organize the pieces, placing everything into neat piles. Chris picked up a piece and moved to place it in what he thought was the right pile.
"No, not that one," you said, pointing to a different pile. "Put that there."
Chris chuckled. "You're a little type A, aren't you?"
You grinned. "That's not the insult you think it is." You laughed lightly, enjoying the banter.
The two of you get on with trying to put the piece of furniture together.
Chris was completely engrossed in screwing in the legs, his brow furrowed in concentration. You couldn’t help but notice how his features hardened with determination, and you find him extremely attractive in this moment.
"You're really into this," you teased lightly, nudging him with your elbow as you passed him the next piece.
Chris glanced up, a playful glint in his eye. "Of course. Gotta impress you with my handyman skills."
You chuckled, kneeling down to align a set of screws. "Impress me, huh? Well, if you can get through this without instructions, color me impressed."
“Prepare to be amazed, Y/N,” Chris replied with a grin, returning to his task.
Your eyes involuntarily lingered on his arms, noticing how his t-shirt hugged his muscles snugly. You found yourself imagining running your hands across his arms and over his chest, remembering how you felt that night when inhibitions were lower.
Chris's voice snapped you out of your daze. "Sorry, what was that?" you asked, needing him to repeat his words.
"No, I was just…" Chris paused for a moment, sitting on the floor, pausing the task at hand. He hesitated as he looked up at you.
"Go on, what is it?" you encouraged him, curious about his question.
He started cautiously, "I've always wondered, why did you and George never date?"
You laughed softly, surprised by the question. “George? I don’t know, it’s just something that never happened. I don't even think either of us ever even considered our relationship to go that way”
Chris gives you a skeptical look, "Really? Not even once?"
"Not even once," you confirmed, shaking your head. "George and I have always been more like siblings."
Chris nodded softly, as if processing your answer. "Good to know."
Though slightly taken aback by his reaction, you chose not to dwell on it for too long.
“How did your shoot go this week?” you ask him.
Chris perks up a little, clearly pleased by your interest. "Oh, it was great! But it did go a lot longer than usual. I'll blame that on Arthur and his terrible football skills. But the audience will never find out. I should probably pay my editors more for making him look somewhat competent at football."
You both laugh, and Chris continues to talk about YouTube and some of his ideas. You can't help but smile at how passionate and happy he sounds when he talks about his work.
After a while, you two pull yourselves out of the conversation and get back to finishing the dresser.
"So, if you had to rate my IKEA furniture-building skills, what would you give me?" Chris asks, a playful grin on his face as the two of you now sit on the couch.
"Hmm," you ponder, pretending to be deep in thought. "Solid seven."
"Seven!?" Chris asks, feigning outrage, leaning in a little closer. "I thought I did pretty good."
"It would be higher, but you get distracted easily," you tell him, the space between you and Chris now barely a breath.
"Well, you were the one distracting me," Chris says, and you're taken aback by his comment. Your mouth falls slightly open, suddenly very aware of the proximity between you two.
Before you can respond, the door swings open, and George walks in, looking between the two of you with a mischievous grin. "Well, you two seem to be getting along well." You quickly get up from your place next to Chris.
You stare back blankly at George, arms crossed over your chest. "How was your... emergency?"
George's grin widens. "All sorted," he replies nonchalantly, before turning around to enter his room. "So which one of you is gonna help me move the dresser into my room?"
You and Chris exchange annoyed looks, then smile at each other, his smile exceedingly tugging at your heart, before you both scream, "Do it yourself!"
-------⋆✧⋆-------
Over the next few weeks, you and Chris had become friends, finding yourself spending time with him more often. You still couldn’t believe that just a few months ago you two couldn’t even look each other in the eye.
However, it seemed like every time you made plans with George or any of his friends, Chris was always there, and you two would magically end up alone together. You didn't think much of it, knowing that as much as you loved George, you hated him meddling in your love life, and he knew that as well. So, there’s no way he was involved, right? (Or maybe, deep down, you hoped that all the time you’ve been able to spend with Chris was somewhat of a sign and not your nosy best friend getting involved.)
You were at George’s place yet again (where else could you be? You only had like two friends) and helping him clean out his closet, stuffing his old clothes into donation boxes.
Slyly, you asked, “Where are the rest of your flatmates?”
George replied, “You know…they’re around,” without making eye contact, his back turned to you.
“And Chris?” you asked, slightly hopeful.
George looked up at you, almost as if he was wishing that you hadn’t asked that question.
You caught his expression, furrowing your eyebrows in worry. “What’s wrong?”
George placed the T-shirt he was folding gently into the box before turning to look at you. “Okay, so don’t get upset.”
“Why would I get upset?” you asked, a little concerned.
“Before I tell you, know that I told him not to do it,” George started.
“George... speak,” you demanded, poking him in the chest.
“Chris is out on a date,” he finally said.
You feel your heart plummet to the pit of your stomach, “Oh, good for him.”
George looked at you, clearly noticing your attempt to hide your disappointment. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m okay. Why wouldn’t I be okay?” you said, trying to brush it off and distract yourself by placing more clothes into the box.
“Y/N, come on. You really don’t think I know you better than you know yourself?” he looked at you matter-of-factly and you were struggling to maintain eye contact with him.
“I’m fine, George,” you tell him, trying to get him to drop the topic, but he only looks at you like he doesn't believe you.
“Y/N. I know you like Chris”, he states and you feel your whole body freeze.
“What? No, I don’t,” you retorted, and honestly, even you couldn’t believe the words coming out of your mouth.
“Y/N—”
“George—”
“I see the way you look at him, Y/N, and when he speaks, you hang on his every word,” he interrupts you.
“George, no... Chris and I, we’re just barely friends,” you try to explain to him.
“I know you two had a rocky start, well, a drunk and touchy start,” he teased, dodging the T-shirt you threw at him, “but you’ve grown closer over the past few months and I think you’re just in denial about your feelings. Plus you look like you wanna jump him every time you look at him.”
You sat there on the edge of the bed for a minute, thinking about what George had said. Yes, things were a little iffy at the start, but you had grown to like his company. He was funny, quite sweet, and in recent times, easy to talk to. Not to mention, every time you looked at the man, it was like your brain short-circuited at how hot he looked.
George carefully considered his words before continuing. “You’ve always been like this, Y/N…cautious.”
As his words sank in, it dawned on you.
“Holy fuck, George! I like Chris,” you exclaimed, falling back onto the bed. “How did this happen? I feel like I’ve gone insane. When did I become so blind to my own feelings?”
George watched you in amusement, a small smile playing on his lips. “Took you long enough to admit it.”
“But–-,” you sat up, turning to George who was now sitting on the opposite corner of the bed, “there’s no way he likes me back.”
“Eh?” George responded, confused. “Why would you think that?”
“Because the guy is literally on a date right now,” you say, exasperated.
“So?”
“What do you mean, “So”? If he liked me even a little bit, he wouldn’t be going on dates,” you say, throwing your hands up in frustration.
“Probably because he doesn’t know you like him. Just tell the guy,” he suggests, his face soft, laced with concern.
“I can’t do that,” you look at him, your voice coming out almost broken.
“Why?” George comes to sit next to you, placing a comforting hand on your back.
You take a deep breath before you continue, “Because things just got somewhat good with him. We’re finally past that awkward phase and are friends now. I don’t want to go back to that cold phase when he ultimately rejects me.”
“He’s not gonna reject you, Y/N,” he says, throwing his arm around, pulling you into his side.
“How do you know?” you look up at him.
“For Christ’s sake, Y/N, just tell the guy how you feel.” he says, as he pulls away from you so that you’re both now facing each other.
“No, I can’t do that,” you said, getting up off his bed and heading out of his bedroom.
“What, Y/N! Where are you going?” he asked, following you.
“Home,” you said, making a beeline for the door.
“Why?"
“So that I can go to bed and wake up and forget about all of this,” you said looking back at him, hand now on the door knob.
“Y/N…”
“Bye, George,” you said, before opening the main door and closing it behind you, confusion and uncertainty swirling in your head.
-------⋆✧⋆-------
“Here,” Arthur Hill handed you a drink, and you threw him a quick thanks, quickly gulping down the liquid. Arthur looked at you, concerned. The party was lively around you, the usual chaos of a house party at George’s place.
George had convinced you to come to the party, saying it’d be a good distraction, to get your mind off of things—things being Chris.
George had promised you that Chris was busy tonight and wouldn’t be here, so you reluctantly agreed (though George had to beg a lot more than he was hoping he’d have to).
You had only arrived a few minutes ago, and you already wanted to leave. You just wanted the peace and quiet of your room to contemplate about your doomed love life and drown your sorrows in a pint of ice cream.
“You okay?” Arthur asked, pulling you out of your daze. “You look distracted.”
“Hmm? Yeah, I’m fine,” you replied with a half-hearted smile and you were grateful that Arthur didn’t push any further.
"I'm gonna get myself another drink," you said, and Arthur nodded in response before you navigated through the crowd toward the kitchen.
You made yourself a drink, pouring whatever bottle of alcohol was closest to your reach into your cup, wanting something strong. If you couldn’t drown yourself in ice cream, alcohol would have to do. (Not your smartest idea, but oh well.)
You took a sip of your concoction, the liquid burning as it flowed down your throat. You turned around but just as you were about to head back to find Arthur, when you spotted him. Chris.
He was the last person you wanted to see right now, but you couldn’t take your eyes off him. How did he manage to get even hotter than the last time you’d seen him? (Honestly, it was torture.)
But there he was, talking to some girl you’d never seen before. The sight felt like a punch in the stomach, knocking the air out of your lungs. All you wanted to do was leave. You placed your drink on the counter and set your sights straight at the door. In your haste, you didn’t pay much attention to your surroundings and bumped into someone. Looking up, you saw it was George.
"Whoa, where's the fire?" George asked, blocking your path.
"George, I need to leave," you said, trying to sidestep him.
“Why? What happened?” he asked, but before you could answer, he glanced over your shoulder and saw Chris. “Oh, I see.”
“Just talk to him, Y/N,” he tried to persuade you. “Whatever the outcome, it’ll make you feel better.”
“George, are you crazy? I can’t” You looked up at him, and the vulnerable look in your eyes made his heart break.
“Fine, but please don’t leave. Just take a breather for a minute. You should at least stay and enjoy the party,” he insisted. You opened your mouth to protest, but he cuts you off, “Just stay in my room for a bit. You can come back out after a while.”
You agreed, knowing he wouldn’t take no for an answer, and turned towards his room. “Good,” he said, pushing you gently by the shoulders.
Once you were in his room, you turned to look at him. “Now stay put, I’ll be right back.” You nodded, and he headed back out of the room.
You took a seat on his bed, and before you knew it, you heard the door open. Expecting to see George, you froze when you found Chris instead.
“George, what are you doing?” Chris protested as George pushed him into the room. “Stop, bro!”
You got up and shout, “George! What the hell?”
“You two talk,” George said, pointing at both of you before quickly shutting the door. You heard the lock click.
You rushed to the door, trying to turn the knob, but it wouldn’t budge. “Bastard locked us in,” you said to Chris.
“George! Let me out!” you protested, banging on the door.
“Not until you two talk to each other,” George yelled back.
You turned to find Chris looking just as surprised as you. “Well, this is awkward,” Chris said, rocking back and forth on his feet with his hands shoved into his pockets. “I might be wrong...but I think George wants us to talk.”
You sighed, leaning against the door. “Yeah, he’s a lot of things… but subtle, he is not.”
Chris chuckled. “What gave it away?”
Your suspicions were right. That motherfucker had been playing you this whole time, getting Chris to drive you home, finding ways to get the two of you to spend time alone, locking you in his room. And you’d walked right into it. Idiot.
“That slimy little shithole,” you muttered to yourself.
You laughed out loud. “So George seems to think we would make a good match.”
“What?” Chris said, looking nervous.
“Did you not realize?” You looked at Chris, and he was staring at you with an unrecognizable look on his face.
“Well…” he started sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. “I kind of knew.”
“What do you mean you knew, Chris?” you asked, confused.
“I mean, I knew George was trying to set us up, he sort of told me he would, that day that you were over at our place for movie night.” he admitted.
“I’m sorry…?” you ask him again, arms crossed.
You raised an eyebrow. “And you were okay with it? Why didn’t you say anything?”
Chris sighed. “I promise, I told him not to! And I just didn’t know how to bring it up..... But honestly, I didn’t mind. I liked spending time with you.”
You felt your heart skip a beat. “What? You liked spending time with me?”
He nodded. “Yeah. I’ve kind of liked you since the day we first met in the pub.”
“But that was months ago,” you said, incredulous. “Why didn't you say anything till now?”
He sighed, looking down for a moment before meeting your eyes. “I don’t know. All I know is that every time I look at you, it’s like the words leave my mouth. Of course, I wanted to talk to you after that night, but I didn’t know what came over me every time. You’re literally the most gorgeous woman I’d ever laid my eyes on, and each time I wanted to ask you out, I’d choke up.” “But what about that date?” you asked, trying to process everything. “If you liked me so much, then why did you go on a date?”
Chris looked a little guilty. “George told you about that?” You nodded before he continued, “You can’t blame a guy for trying to move on, especially when a girl like you couldn’t possibly like me back,” he said softly.
You shook your head. “Chris, I… I’ve liked you too. I think I’ve liked you the whole time. But I didn’t think you did, especially after how everything was after we got drunk that night.”
Chris stepped closer, hope in his eyes. “You like me too?” he asked again, making sure he wasn’t wrong about what he heard.
“Yes, Chris, I like you too,” you responded.
“So we’re both hopeless in the love department?” he asked.
“Yep, looks like it,” you said, laughing. “So hopeless that we needed Cupid Clarkey to get us to finally admit our feelings.”
You both stared at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter.
Chris stopped to look at you, stepping even closer. “God, I love your laugh,” he said softly, and you looked at him shyly.
“And you have the most amazing eyes I’ve ever seen,” you stepped closer as well and he flashes that gorgeous smile of his, the kind that gets your stomach in knots.
He said, “You know, I regret nothing from that night.”
You replied teasingly, “Really?”
He nodded, “Well, there’s only one thing I regret.”
You asked, “And what’s that?”
He said, “That I didn’t get to kiss you,” as he tucked a stray strand of your hair behind your ear, his eyes go dark and intense, piercing into your soul.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” you whispered, and with that, Chris crashed his lips onto yours.
The kiss was everything you’d dreamed of and more. His arm snaked around your waist, pulling you closer, while your arms made their way around his neck and your hand tangling into those perfect curls of his, tugging slightly, earning a groan from him.
The kiss was filled with so much emotion, both of you pouring everything into it—all the pent-up feelings from the past months. It was intense, and full of passion and tenderness, leaving you breathless. You could feel his heart pounding in sync with yours, the heat between you two electrifying. It was as if the world had melted away, and there was nothing but this moment.
Chris pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against yours. “I’ve wanted to do that for so long,” he whispered.
You smiled, feeling the warmth of his breath against your lips. “Me too.”
Before either of you could say anything else, you heard a slight thud outside the door. Chris gave you a knowing look, and you raised your voice intentionally louder. “Well, George’s bed looks nice doesn’t it? I think he just put new sheets on.”
Chris chimes up, “Maybe we should use it. We’re locked in here anyways. Might as well make the most of our time.”
Immediately, you heard George unlocking the door, bursting into the room. “Okay, get out, both of you. I don’t want you two fucking on my bed.”
You and Chris burst into laughter. Chris scooped you up playfully and ran off to his bedroom, shutting the door behind you two.
Once you were in his room, he slowly placed you on the ground, then pulled you onto his lap as he sat at the edge of the bed.
“So... I think I should ask you properly,” he said, looking up at you.
Chris leaned in, his forehead resting against yours. “Now that you know how I feel about you, what do you say we give this a shot? Will you go out with me?”
You nodded, heart pounding in your chest. “I’d like that, Chris.” and he flashed you a smile.
“We really should be thanking George,” he said.
“Yeah, normally I hate him meddling, but this time I don’t mind. But please don't tell him that, or I'll never here the end of it,” you said as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
Chris grinned. Forget about it then, I just want to kiss you again.”
You laughed, and with that, you closed the distance again, letting yourself melt into his touch. The feeling of his soft lips sent a shiver down your spine.
This moment felt perfect, like you fit together in a way that was always meant to be. His arms wrapped around you securely, pulling you closer, and you could feel the steady beat of his heart against yours. You hated to admit it, but George playing cupid had turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to you and Chris.

Bonus Fun Facts (cannon to this AU):
- George did find your drunk closeness to Chris disgusting, but he didn't really care if you snogged his friend or not. He pulled you off of Chris more out of fear of what you would do to him if he let you make any drunken mistakes while he was around. - During your conversation after movie night, George realized that Chris had a crush on you. - He and Chris disappeared off onto the balcony and he managed to get Chris to fess up that he was in fact into you. - George said he'd gladly meddle. Chris told him not to meddle. George meddled. - He knew you two hopeless idiots would not give each other a chance without a gentle push in the right direction. - George did in fact tell Chris not to go on the date, bringing up his crush on you. - Chris said that he was sure that there was no way you liked him and that you had not shown any interest in him. He did not want to make you uncomfortable by making a move on you so he decided to try and forget about his crush. - Could George just have told you that Chris liked you...yes? But did he instead choose to play cupid for his own amusement, of course he did. - Plus you hadn't explicitly told him that you liked Chris and he didn't want to dump that news on you. But then he realized that you were too thick when it came to your own feelings..so he did just dump it on you. - George realized he had to kick his matchmaking skills up to a 100 (and yes his best idea was locking you to in a room). - Of course he eavesdropped, and the next morning he did in fact not let you hear the end of it.

I personally like it, so I think I'm going to start throwing them into my fics from now on.
Check out my other fics and oneshots here. Not working on any new requests currently but feel free to drop into my asks for a chat! 😊

Where does Scott even begin with you? The Cliffhanger's sweetheart, the epitome of the sun in this hell hole, is his friend. Well, sort of.
Because every time he was near you, it felt like he was constantly basking in the sun, yet at the same time, he was warmed up by everything you did, from your smile to your voice. It was almost like he was constantly taunted.
He couldn't get enough of you, though. You were everything he's ever wanted—the warmth and love of another—and yet he still seems to be pushing you away.
But then that all changes when a little surprise is left on one of the class boards one morning when Scott and the other Cliffhangers are called to meet up with Peter and Sophie.
Scott walks into the classroom, wearing a sweater he just threw on due to the cold, and looks at the board in confusion. "Morp? Wh-what's a morp?" His brow was furrowed, and he frankly didn't care too much about decoding it until Auggie followed from behind him. "Oh, cool, a prom?"
Scott looks at Auggie, realizing everyone else is inside already. His eyes land on you, and he suddenly can't focus on anything but you. Everyone was taking a seat, and it took him a moment to realize you sat with him until a hand waved at his face.
"Scott, y'there?" Your voice rings out, and he looks at you, his face brooding as always. "Why? What's up?" He clears his throat and focuses his gaze on you. Despite hating you, he seems to be interested in what you have to say. Probably just sucking it up so it would be over.
You look at him, and suddenly you find yourself drawn to his eyes. Do they seem more blue than usual lately, or have they always been this way? But you don't have time to ponder about that because now it’s his turn to snap you out of your thoughts.
"Hey, are you there?" He gives you a small smirk, and you playfully roll your eyes. “Yeah, sorry,” you say, clearing your throat and resting your head on your palm. “Sophie and Peter paired us for morp planning.”
His eyes widen slightly, but he immediately covers them up with his emotionless stare again. “Why us? ," he asks, sounding annoyed. “Dunno,” you reply. “Probably ‘to build a stronger relationship between us’,” you say, playfully mocking what Peter constantly tells everyone whenever there’s a team activity.
He let out a soft scoff but couldn't help but let a smirk form on his lips. He was starting to let his guard down, something he rarely does around people; besides Shelby, she relates to him more than anyone. "Yeah, all that bullshit."
You nod and chuckle, watching as he bounces his leg, a habit you share with him. "All we have to do is plan the music, so it shouldn't be too bad. They're letting us use Peter's office and a couple more gadgets, I think." You shrug, but all you could think of was Scott.
Spending time alone with him in a room for days on end sounded both eventful and terrifying. But at least it was him instead of anyone else; at least you could get some peace and quiet for once.
————————————————————————
It had been days since you and Scott were assigned to make the playlist, and despite the bickering and constant grogginess you two would feel the next day, it was bearable. It caused something in Scott to brew—something he thought he could keep in, but it was just waiting to burst.
Scott dragged Shelby away to a corner in the common room—not the best place to have a private conversation, but it'll do.
"Let me guess," Shelby starts, her gaze landing on Ophelia talking to Peter and back at Scott. "You need advice to ask her out?" Scott scrunches up his face, annoyed but thinking about it. "Well, yeah," he says after a moment.
She chuckles and looks over at you again, trying to think of anything. "Morp's tomorrow, Scott. How are you sure Auggie or someone else asked her out?" Scott suddenly seemed upset at the thought, however. "You think Auggie has more of a chance than me?" His angry question was a little too loud, loud enough to catch your attention, at least.
Shelby quickly looks away and narrows her eyes at Scott, slapping his arm playfully. "Will you keep it down, you idiot?" He whines and leans against the wall, crossing his arms and staring at you from afar. "How am I ever going to ask her out? I'm just the cocky football star, a pompous asshole fuckboy. Every bad thing you could think of."
She sighs and moves closer, taking his hand and watching his expression before continuing, "Sure, you can be a complete asshole." He scoffs and looks at the floor. "Great way to start that off," he muttered. She rolls her eyes and continues with, "But all that matters is what they think of you. You wanna go all out and be stupid with your promposal? Go ahead. I'll be there every stupid step in the way."
He moves his gaze on her and mutters, "Stop calling me stupid. But, thanks."
————————————————————————
The plan was perfect. You and Shelby would be hanging out together, saying some good stuff about Scott, and Scott would play football with Auggie. Auggie would throw the ball at you, and he would save you. He would tie that to some smooth way to ask you out, but he would worry about that later. What was the worst that could happen?
Scott watches nervously as Shelby and you sit at the bleachers, taking a deep breath as Shelby discreetly nods and Scott starts to play. Your gaze moves to Scott, and a small smile grows on your face. Seeing Scott play football was cute to you. Despite being an ex-football captain, he still never lost his love for the sport, and you admire him for that.
Shelby notices your stare and chuckles, looking at Scott and back at you. "You eyeing Scott?" Your cheeks heat up and your eyes land on her, shaking your head as your face gets all flushed up. "No- well yeah, but not in that way! He's my friend; I just want to watch him."
Your gaze moves back to the two boys playing, and you swear you saw Scott wink at you, but maybe it was your mind playing tricks on you; he probably got something in his eye.
But you didn't even have time to think because the football started flying towards you, and Scott's amazing plan came crashing down as soon as the ball hit him right in the face.
"Scott!" You yell out and rush down to him with Shelby. He lets out a loud groan and covers his face. He's never felt so much pain and embarrassment before. "Auggie, fuck!" He groans out. "I didn't mean to, I- I'm sorry!" Auggie frowns and looks at the two, watching as you take Scott into your arms and prop your leg up for him to rest on.
"Shit- Scott, move your hand." You frown and try to move his hand, watching as a crowd of people form, someone rushing to grab Peter. Scott whines and shakes his head, saying something about how it really hurt, but it's muffled from his hands.
"C'mon, please? I swear the pain will be gone soon; I need to see how bad it is." You were trying to stay calm for the both of you, and after a moment, he moves his hands away to reveal a bleeding nose and some tears.
You wince and help him stand up. With the help of Shelby and Auggie, you guys safely bring him to the girls rooms and onto your bed, hurrying off to the bathroom while the two find something that could help Scott besides a wet rag.
You return to him on the bed and move his hand away. A small hiss escapes you, and you start to clean him up. The silence was killing you after a while, so you mumbled out, "That was stupid, y'know?"
He looks at you with an annoyed expression and scoffs, trying not to move too much as you clean his nose and check if it is broken. "Well, I'm sorry for saving your life," he says sarcastically, clearly upset that you didn't appreciate him saving you. Maybe his plan was just stupid.
"I mean, I appreciate it, but look at you now." You frown and place the rag on your side table, grabbing some tissues to clean the spot better. "Why'd you do it? Ruin your oh-so-perfect face for me?" He smirks and looks at you. "You like my face, huh?" You roll your eyes, and he lets out a small laugh as you punch his arm.
"Sorry, I couldn't help it." He lets his laughter die down and listens to the two of you breathing. It calmed him down to hear your breath, especially because he definitely needed to calm down. He took a deep breath and calmly let out, "Because I love you."
You stop your arm and move your gaze from his nose to his gaze, which was locked onto yours. You couldn't tell if it was because he was frozen in embarrassment or because he wanted to show you he really meant it; either way, it left you shocked.
How does he like you? He's made it very clear that he has some hatred towards you , so it didn't make sense. "But the way you act around me—" he quickly interrupted you. "It's because I'm insecure." He sighs and looks down at his hands, feeling the embarrassment creep up on him.
"You're just so- so gorgeous. You make everyone smile and laugh; it's like the goddamn sun. You shine so bright, and I can't help but feel this jealousy towards you because everyone gets to experience all of that." Although he didn't outright say it, it was clear to you that he was jealous, and it was incredibly adorable.
You let out a soft laugh, and at first he thought you were laughing at him, but a small smile formed on his lips when he realized you were laughing with him. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I feel like I shine brighter when I'm with you. You make me sparkle, I guess."
He chuckles and moves a little closer, sensing the change in tension, and he was sure you did too because you moved closer. "Sparkle, huh? What are you, a vampire?" He smirks and wraps his arm around you, making you roll your eyes and cup his cheek. "Just shut up and kiss me."
"Yes, ma'am." He smirks wider and kisses you gently, immediately crash-landing into heaven as soon as he feels your lips. They were soft and felt heavenly, just like he imagined. The kiss grew deeper but didn't last too long as someone threw a box of bandages at them.
Scott pulls away in annoyance but quickly gets flustered as soon as he sees Shelby and Auggie; he completely forgets they were coming back. "Congratulations, lovebirds!" Shelby smirks and moves her gaze between Scott and you. "But do us all a favor and get a room, will you?"
You let out a small chuckle and quickly helped Scott clean up, hearing the pair's footsteps as they headed outside. Despite both of you being complete opposites, Something told you it would all work out in the long run.

I WANT TO PROMISE YOU ETERNITY; KUROO TETSUROU
Tumblr media
Kuroo finds a letter you never meant for him to read.
Tumblr media
TAGS: Epistolary; Love Confessions; Pining; University AU; Male Reader
WORD COUNT: 1,846 words
NOTES: Let's hope my days of writing love letters back in high school somehow translates to now. They're both yappers but they're just guys in love, so it's okay. One day I'll write an actual fic for Kuroo, but today is not that day.
Also, I don't think pronouns are mentioned, but this is mlm. Two pathetic, down bad men in love with each other. (It makes it more enjoyable knowing that)
Tumblr media
Dear my love,
The anonymity of calling you my love is exciting, but it’s also heart wrenching in the way that you don’t know how I think about you. You don’t know how I sit next to you praying to every God that you will look at me how I look at you; with love in your heart and desperation for me in your veins. Some days I feel like I need to be embarrassed for the intensity of these feelings, but I can’t be when you’re involved. You are the one thing my heart wants, and I accepted it long ago.
Do you remember the day everyone came over to my apartment to drink shitty beer and watch terrible movies? You and I gravitated towards each other, finding our spots next to each other like we always had. Four years of knowing each other, and the spots in my living room are assigned at this point. It brings me joy that you accepted the assigned seat next to me without hesitation. It makes me feel wanted.
But that night we got drunk and laid on the bathroom floor since you couldn’t stop throwing up. You’ve never been able to hold your alcohol, even though you constantly say you can. Whenever I pull your glass away, you reach for it as you tell me this time is different. I never believe you, but I still indulge you because I can’t stand seeing you pout. That night had been like any other, though, where you had begged me to let you have another drink and I caved like the pathetic man I am. So, we laid on the bathroom floor, staring at the ceiling, and that’s when you asked me about reincarnation.
“Do you believe in it?” you asked, and I remember looking at you. Your side profile is so stunning, especially when your hair is out of your face. It makes it easier to see the light freckles from the sun underneath your eyes.
I shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ve never thought much of it.”
You didn’t say anything for a long time, and I looked back at the ceiling. We stuck glow in the dark stickers up there years ago when Bokuto-san complained about how scary my apartment could be at night. Akaashi-san corrected him, saying that Bokuto-san is simply scared of the dark and that was it. I didn’t mind putting the stars up, really it matches me in a way, and I never took them down, especially after you grew fond of looking up at them as if they were real.
“I think I do,” you said, and I felt you looking at me before I saw it. “I think reincarnation happens until we find our soulmate.”
I’ve always loved your eyes, the hazel of them so striking it takes me by surprise every time. They were focused on me and nothing else. It was just a little hard to breathe.
“Or what if we reincarnate so we can spend more time with our soulmate? What if it’s meant to give us all the time in the universe to relearn them and love them again and again?” I asked, and I didn’t really believe what I was saying. I was still tipsy, but the idea of you really listening to me was intoxicating.
You slowly nodded, as if you’ve never considered that before. “I think I prefer that way more,” you said with a faint smile. “You know, being able to love the one you’re meant to in every lifetime. It sounds better than being lonely for who knows how long.”
I hummed in agreement, but I wanted to tell you that I didn’t care about reincarnation if it meant you weren’t the one I’d love for countless lifetimes. Honestly, I think I’d damn my soulmate before I ever stopped loving you, no matter when or where we met. Ever since we met in Japanese Literature our second year of university, I knew you would consume my entire heart and soul, never letting go even if you didn’t even know you were holding on.
Our conversation ended there when you quickly sat back up and grabbed the toilet seat to throw up. I hurried to your side to make sure your hair didn’t get in the way, because although I’d clean the vomit out of your hair, I wasn’t eager to do it.
But I’ve been thinking about soulmates and reincarnation ever since, and I have things I want to say but don’t know how to. I’ve never known how to bring things up to you without the fear that I’m revealing my feelings for you. What I feel for you is desperation to be seen and loved. I want to hold your attention to where you can’t look away and pray that you never have to. Hold me close to you, kissing my forehead before placing your chin on top of my head. I know my hair would tickle your nose, and you’d feel the urge to pull away but find you can’t.
I don’t know if we’re soulmates, and it’s okay if we’re not, but I would pick you over anyone the universe assigned to me. If I were to have someone else, then it’s clear the universe doesn’t know me or my heart well enough to know it’s you, Tetsurou. You’re the person who I’d choose in a million lifetimes. You’re the person I’d be reincarnated for centuries just so I could see you smile once. The concept of it being anyone else is so ridiculous to me, because I fell hard and fast for you. Our friends tell me to make my move, that maybe you feel the same, but I can’t. I resign myself to writing these letters and imagining a world where one of us confesses because I don’t know if it’ll ever happen in this one.
Any confession between us will have to be from you, because the words are always lodged in my throat. I could never confess through a letter, because I don’t want you to know how deeply I love you. Or at least I don’t want you to know yet. Maybe one day you’ll confess and eventually I’ll share the entirety of my heart with you like I want to. It’s a dream I doubt I’ll ever see come true.
Just know that if soulmates exist, then you’re the one I’d pick. I would intertwine my soul with yours for the rest of eternity if I could, just so we would always meet in every lifetime.
With love,
Y/N
Tumblr media
Dear Y/N,
Bokuto found this letter and saw my name written at the bottom. He didn’t read it, but he gave it to me to read. Don’t be mad at him, because he didn’t know what he was doing. All he thought was that he was giving me something that belonged to me, even though that’s not what this is. I am not gifted with words like you are. You’re able to convey feelings in a way I don’t think I even know how to, but I’ll try. I’m really going to try.
My crush on you started three weeks into knowing you. We ran into each other at the library when I was looking for a table and you had all of your stuff spread across one. I recognized you from class, so I asked if I could sit with you. Honestly, I was terrified that you’d tell me to go away, even though you didn’t seem like that kind of person. Instead, you smiled and moved your stuff over so I could sit down. That’s when you officially asked my name, and the way you said it made my heart do flips.
Although I don’t entirely remember the conversation about reincarnation, which I doubt you’ll be surprised if I don’t remember since I forget half of what happens when I’m drunk, I believe in us. I don’t really care about soulmates and reincarnation if I have you, because being fulfilled in this life is more important to me than in the previous or future. I just know I want to spend this life with you for as long as I can. Even if it’s full of laying on the bathroom floor drunk or going to those festivals you love so much or going to the library and watching you study for hours on end. I don’t care what we fill it with as long as it’s filled with you.
Kenma constantly tells me that I need to get my head out of my ass and talk to you, but I don't know how. You’re someone I care about so much, and I don’t want to lose you. The idea of losing you scares me so much I feel sick if I think about it for too long. So I’ve kept all these feelings to myself, even though I’ve known how I feel.
I remember when I realized I loved you. It was at the library again, but this time you had come looking for me. I’d been there for I don’t know how long, running off no sleep and not eating for way too long. You stomped over to my table and gave me a look that scared me. I really thought you were going to kill me for a second, if I’m being honest. But then you started putting my stuff up and said, “We’re leaving.”
I fought with you over it, and we nearly got kicked out of the library, but you didn’t flinch. You just continued on, putting my stuff in my backpack, and the moment I realized I loved you was when you looked at me and asked me when the last time I ate was, and when I didn’t have an answer, you said “that’s exactly why we’re leaving.” My friends care about me, I know they do, but they’ve never cared for me the way you do. They never marched into the library because I wasn’t answering their texts or calls and wasn’t eating or sleeping. Did they show their concern? Yes, but not like you did. I wanted to feel loved like that for the rest of my life.
So, please call me your love. Please tell me how you feel, because I’ve felt this way for so long that it’s grown painful at this point holding it in. I don’t know how to tell you in beautiful words like you can, but I love you, Y/N. I love you so much, it may be just a little embarrassing. I just never knew I could say it aloud without the fear of it ruining everything. Now I know it won’t ruin anything. It’ll actually be the start of something I’ve been wanting for so long.
I will be at our spot in the park on Wednesday at 13:00. Please meet me there so we can actually talk in person, because letters make it difficult to kiss you and hug you.
With love,
Tetsurou

Seonghwa POV
"Seriously jagi?", I groan
"Yeah Hwa", she confirms
"But you always take my pictures. I don't want anyone else", I whine
"Baby it's not my choice. My manager wants her to take your pictures. She's new baby and he's testing her out"
"Yeah but why me? He knows about us, he knows you're my photographer, why is he taking you from me?"
She laughs, "Hwa, its just for this shoot ok? And my manager picked you because you're good at taking pictures. If she....doesn't do a good job, you'll still come out great because you're a natural at posing"
I scowl at her because she's complimenting me but at the same time I won't have her to oogle and be sexy for
That's why I'm so good at it because I see her behind the camera
And I tell her this so she knows
"Aww Hwannie. You don't have to try be sexy if you don't want to. You just are naturally. Just be you"
"You are so good at flattery jagi", I roll my eyes, "But fine. You owe me though"
She smiles, hugging me, "Ok baby. I'll do whatever you want tonight ok?"
I hug her back, nuzzling in her neck, "Yeah?"
She nods, "Yeah"
"Ride me?"
"Of course"
"69?"
"Sure baby", she agrees
"Fuck you in the shower?"
"Uh huh"
Ooo this is getting good
"Let me tie you up?"
She snorts, "Yeah Hwa. Fine"
"Mm ok", I laugh in her neck
"Good", she laughs, pulling back, kissing my cheek and I just smile at her
"I gotta go set up the cameras baby. I'll see you in a little bit"
I nod, "Ok jagi"
Bending down, I give her a soft kiss, then she leaves
I sigh, sitting down, waiting for the shoot to start
I'm not happy about this new girl taking my pictures
I don't want a photographer I don't know, someone who I don't know how they work
The photoshoot didn't start yet and I already want it to be over
--------------------------------
"Can you look up?", the girl asks
I try not to roll my eyes
That's all she says
Look up, look down, look to the side
She's not asking me to change poses or positions and I have to do it by myself
I have to figure out the best pose, the best way to angle my face, the look I should give
She's giving me no direction and she's not even saying the pictures are coming out good
I have no idea if they are
I have no idea if I'm doing the photo shoot concept
I want my jagi back
She's across the room, taking pictures of Yunho
I hear her telling him how to look, how to sit, directing him to the best light, what kind of look she wants him to give
She's acting like a professional photographer not like a person just taking pictures
Like this girl
And I'm so jealous that the guys get my baby while I'm stuck with this newbie
If anything she should have another photographer with her, showing her what to do
Or at least taking pictures along with her so I have some good ones
I look up, at the camera and she snaps a picture
I catch myself mid eye roll and I stop it, playing it off like I'm moving to pose
She just keeps taking the same angle over and over and I'm getting annoyed
I decide to lean back on my elbow, putting my other arm on my leg, turning my head to my profile
Once I hear the click of the camera, I move my head back for another shot
I look around after she takes the photo, figuring that I'm supposed to take pictures with the props I have
A flag and a mask
Kneeling down, I take the flag and put it over my shoulder, keeping the mask next to me
"Ok", she says, taking some pictures, "Uh the mask?"
I pick it up and hold it to my face when she says, "Uhh"
I look at her slightly confused, bring the mask down a little, unsure of what she wants me to do
Tumblr media
God she just has to fucking talk and I'll do whatever to get this shit over with
"Uh yeah, you can put the mask back up"
I do, posing and letting her take more pictures
She walks around me taking more and at least she's moving instead of standing in front of me like she's been doing the whole time
Glancing back at Joanne, I see her taking pictures of Wooyoung
He's acting very sexy, giving her smoldering eyes and biting his lip
Like he's flirting with her
"How do I look?", he smirks
I don't hear her answer, as she moves taking pictures but he smiles widely
Did she say he looks good?
Hot?
Why is he smiling like that?
"As sexy as your boyfriend?"
I clench my jaw, getting so fucking angry and jealous
"Uh Seonghwa?"
I look back at the girl, forgetting I'm in the middle of a shoot
"Sorry", I say trying to get myself under control
"Can you pose?"
Seriously?
What the fuck does she think I've been doing?
"Yeah sure"
I stand up, leaving the flag on the floor
I stare at the camera, holding my hand up by my face, moving it a little at a time after every snap
I hear Wooyoung laughing and I glance over at him
He's moving the flag over her, laughing and asking her where she went
He slowly pulls the flag down, over her, joking and teasing her the whole time
Flirting with her
And I don't understand why she's going along with it
Why she's flirting with him too
She pushes the flag off her, then directs him to how she wants him to hold it
He puts the flag bar over both his shoulders, then raises his head giving her a puppy look as she takes picture after picture of him
I look down at the floor, breathing in, the rage that's in my body astounding me
I feel like I'm gonna beat the shit out of Wooyoung
What the fuck is he doing?
He knows she's mine, why is he flirting?
"I like that one", I hear him say
I lift my head, looking at them in anger
He's next to her, way too close, looking over her shoulder at the camera
I guess she's showing him his pictures
He just doesn't need to be that close to her
Again I'm wondering why she's not telling him to move or better yet, fuck off
And I'm so angry that she's not
Doesn't she know that I'm right here, I can see everything?
She should be telling him to back off
They continue talking and I had enough
She wants to flirt fine
I can too
And maybe she'll understand how I feel if she feels it herself
"Uh-", the girl says
"What's your name?", I ask
"Oh uh Jia"
"Pretty name", I say, smiling
Her cheeks blush
"I'm gonna use the flag again ok?"
She nods and I kneel down slowly, making sure I'm staring at her
She swallows, her hands shaking as she raises the camera
"Don't be nervous", I say slyly
She just nods
I pick up the flag, putting it back over my shoulder, my face still towards her and I smile widely
She gasps but takes some more pictures
I'm not even posing, what is she taking a picture of?
Standing up, I put the pole down and pretend to lose balance of it, knocking it against my head, the flag enveloping me
Tumblr media
"Oh my god", she says, rushing to me
She pushes the flag off me as I steady the pole
"Are you ok?"
I nod, laughing, "Yea. I'm a little clumsy"
"Oh", she says
She tilts her head, then reaches out and moves my hair away from my face, her fingers lingering in the strands for a little too long, "You're hair is messed up"
And my skin fucking crawls
I don't want her to touch me
I'm good at flirting but I don't want to be doing it
I want to be flirting with my jagi, not some girl I don't care about
Still, I continue to do it
She has to know what I felt so she'll never do it again
I just smile at her again, "Thanks"
Jia smiles and it does absolutely nothing for me
She doesn't hold a candle to my baby
I just smile back and say, "I'm just gonna play around with this and you can take whatever pictures you want"
She nods, "Yeah ok"
I look at the flag, making sure I'm standing so she gets my profile as I move the flag around, pretending to be so interested in it
After a minute or two she says, "I think that's it"
Bending I put the flag down, straighten up and ask, "Can I see?"
"Oh uh sure. Yeah"
I walk over to her, standing as close to her as I possibly can without touching her
Her breathing gets heavier as I look over her shoulder
She tilts her head back, looking up at me, biting her lip
I just smile, uncomfortable with her head almost touching my shoulder
"Can I see the pictures", I ask again, dropping my voice to make it low
She nods, smiling then looking back down
She scrolls through the pictures slowly and I see that I do have some good pictures of me in there among some blurry ones and ok ones
Those are because of me
I did all the work while she just stood there
"That's a good one", I say, pointing out a really good shot
Joanne was right, I am good at posing
"Yeah you look very....uh....", she trails off
"Sexy?", I offer
"Uh yeah. Really uh hot", she agrees
I roll my eyes behind her head, so done with this shoot
"Well thanks for taking the pictures", I say
"Yeah sure. No problem"
Smiling, I nod then glance across the room
Wooyoung is there, glaring at me but I don't see Joanne anywhere
Glowering at him, I ignore him and leave the set, going back to the dressing room to look for her
Once I get there, I look but I don't see her there either
Where is she?
"Seonghwa!", Wooyoung yells, coming into the room
"What?", I snarl
"What the fuck were you doing with that photographer? Why were you flirting with her? In front of Jo too!", he growls, angry
He's angry?
He's calling me out?
Fine, I can do the same
"Me? What about you?"
He looks confused, "What about me?"
"Why were you flirting with my girlfriend?"
"I wasn't"
He is not going to lie to my face
"Then what do you call asking her how you look? If you're as sexy as me?"
Realization hits his face, then anger again
"I just said that to be dumb!"
"Yeah sure. You flirted with her. And when you were playing with the flag, putting it all over her?"
"What are you talking about? I was just playing around. You know me and her are friends and I do dumb things on set. I was trying to make it not boring, I wasn't flirting"
He's really gonna lie?
Not happening
I know what I saw
"You were basically standing on top of her when you were looking at the pictures!"
"No I wasn't!"
"I fucking saw you!", I roar, "I have fucking eyes. I saw everything and I saw her flirt with you too! She did it right in front of me, where I can see!"
He has no idea how much that hurts
He should know she's off limits but of course he has to be a man whore
"No she didn't! She didn't flirt with me!"
"I saw it!"
"No you idiot!", he shouts, "She told me to fuck off when I asked her if I'm as sexy as you. And I realized I went too far and I apologized"
"I didn't hear that", I snap
"She said it quietly so she didn't embarrass me. She told me to cut it the fuck out and fuck off. And with the flag? She was annoyed. She gave me a death glare when she shoved the flag off her and told me to stop fucking around. And when I was standing with her, I didn't notice how close I was. The screen on the camera is so small. She asked me to move back and she angled the camera closer to me so I could see them."
I didn't see any of that
But then again I didn't watch the entire time
"She never flirted with me and I didn't with her. I wouldn't do that. I was fucking around and she wasn't having it. She was actually upset because she couldn't take your pictures. I was trying to cheer her up.", he explains, "And you should know better. You know she loves you with her entire being. She would never flirt with anyone but you"
I swallow hard, realizing that I fucked up
I assumed she was flirting but she wasn't
"I'll ask again. Why did you flirt with that photographer?"
Shame fills me as I answer him
"Because I thought she was flirting with you"
"And you what? Did it to get back at her?"
I nod
"What are you fucking three years old?", he shouts
"No! I was upset and hurt and I wanted her to feel the same way. I wanted her to know what I was feeling"
God it sounds so stupid now that I say it out loud
I did act like a three year old
What the fuck is wrong with me?
"You fucking idiot. You flirting with that girl for nothing. You hurt Jo for nothing!"
I did and I need to apologize
"Where is she?"
"I don't know. But she was upset and she was crying"
Crying?
She was crying?
She's never supposed to cry because of me
Never
Fuck
"What?", I whisper
"Yeah. She was so sad but holding it together while you smiled at that girl. When you went on your knees in front of her looking at her like you wanted to fuck her. Until she saw that girl touch you. Your hair. Then she started crying and I was trying to assure her you were just being stupid. Then you got so close to that girl while looking at the photos. From where we stood it looked like you were gonna kiss her when she tilted her head back. I heard Jo suck in a breath and I knew she was waiting for you to kiss that girl. And to top it all off, she heard you ask that girl if you look sexy. She saw you smirk at her. That's when she ran away from the set and I don't know where she went"
Fuck
I'm such an idiot
Such a fucking idiot
Getting to my normal clothes, I pull out my cell phone and call her
I pace as I hold the phone to my ear
It doesn't even ring before going to voicemail
"Hi, I'm not here right now-"
"Fuck", I yell, hanging up the phone
Her phone is off
Her phone going right to voicemail is a tell tale sign that it's off
I run out of the dressing room, checking all the rooms as I hurry down the hallway to the bathroom
They're all empty
Getting to the woman's bathroom, I knock on the door, calling her
Nothing
I shove the door open, going in, not caring if I get yelled at
I need to find her
Explain
Grovel
"Jo?"
The room is empty but I check the stalls one at a time to make sure
She's not here
I leave, checking the men's room just in case
Empty
Maybe she's in her car
I run to the exit, shoving the door open and run into the parking lot
Running to the spot I'm pretty sure she parked in, I yell in frustration when I see it's empty
The parking lot isn't so big and I walk up and down each aisle, scanning each car
It's not here
She's not here
The photoshoot isn't over yet so I know she didn't go home
I just have no idea where she is or where she could of went
And I'm panicking
I messed up so badly
I should of talked to her instead of assuming and just doing something that could hurt her
Wooyoung is right, I should know her better than that
I know she loves me more than anything
I know she sees only me, wants only me
So what the fuck is my problem?
I'm just a fucking moron
Going back to the building, I try calling her again but it still goes straight to voicemail
Fuck
--------------------------------
I haven't stopped pacing for an hour
Joanne's manager came and told us to take a break
I asked the manager why and he said that Joanne called, saying she was feeling sick and she needed a little bit of time to take meds and for them to kick in
I keep calling her, hoping her phone is back on since she called her manager but it's not
She must have called him and turned it off again
I can't take this
I need to see her, I need to talk to her
I can't relax, I can't calm down, I'm worried about her
I hate not knowing where she is
I hate thinking that she's crying and I'm not with her
Five minutes later, her manager comes back and tells us that we're starting again in five
And I run out of the room and straight to the set
Bursting into the set, I immediately find her at one of the tables, setting up a camera
"Jagi", I call, getting to her immediately
She doesn't answer, doesn't look at me, just continues to put the lens on the camera
"Jo?"
"What?", she answers
It's not a mean answer, it's just sad
"Baby, where were you? I was looking for you everywhere", I ask anxiously
"I was out"
I don't know what to do
She's not being responsive
I understand why but I thought she'd maybe want to talk or hell even yell at me
"Where? I was worried"
"Out"
I feel like crying
She's never been this cold with me, not even before we got together
"Jagi I-"
"No", she says shutting me down immediately
"But I want to -"
"No", she repeats
"I can explain", I start
"Stop", she says firmly, "No"
I close my mouth, at a loss of what to do or how to get her to hear me out
"If you wanted to upset me, hurt me, congratulations you did", she says softly
What no!
Of course I didn't want to upset her
I just wanted her to feel a little jealous like I was feeling
It was a stupid and I regret it
"If you wanted to make me question our relationship and whether you really want to be with me, you achieved your goal"
Wait what?
Question our relationship?
She's questioning our relationship?
Because of flirting?
"Jo that's not-"
"I don't really want to talk to you right now Seonghwa", she cuts me off
My mouth drops open as pure fear runs through my body
She's never said that before
Any minor disagreements we have she always talked to me
And we never fought
Not once
"Jagi-"
"No. I just want to finish the photo shoot and go home. Alone"
Tear immediately well up in my eyes as I realize she doesn't want to be around me
She doesn't want me coming over tonight
And I don't know what to do
I haven't slept without her in a year and a half
I don't think I can
"But....but....", I stammer
"I just need to think about things Seonghwa. Whether we're going to work or not"
Oh my fucking god, what did I do?
"Nnn...no jagi...please-"
"I can't be with someone who thinks it's ok to flirt with someone else, especially in front of me. If you did it and I wasn't around, that's bad enough. But right in my face? No. I'm not dealing with that"
"Joanne, I'm sor-"
"Just leave me alone Seonghwa", she says, breaking my heart
She finally looks at me, so much hurt in her teary eyes that it takes my breath away
She's hurt because of me
I put that look on her face
I made her cry
I hurt her
I hurt my jagi when I swore I would never do anything to hurt her
I'm such an asshole
"Joanne I didn't mean to hurt you...I ...I was jealous of you and Wooyoung. I thought you were flirting with him"
"You know me better than that Seonghwa. I would never do anything to hurt you", she says, her eyes looking away from me
I know
I should of remembered that
I shouldn't have let my jealousy take over for nothing
"I...I'm sorry. I was stupid ok. I flirted with her to get back at you. To make you feel jealous too. I didn't mean it"
"That's even worse Seonghwa. That just means that you don't trust me and you want to do what? Get revenge on me for something I didn't even do?"
"No not revenge...it wasn't...it wasn't..."
God I don't know how to explain this
It seems like revenge but it wasn't
I just wanted her to feel what I felt
"I don't want a boyfriend who is going to do hurtful things to get back at me. I don't want a boyfriend who doesn't trust me. Without trust there's no relationship. That's not what I want"
"Please Jo, it's not like that!", I cry
"I need you to leave me alone Seonghwa. I have to think about this and I can't have you around me right now. It just...it just hurts"
"Baby please. I'm sorry. I'll do anything you want. Just please, don't leave me. I love you"
"Then leave me alone. That's what I want"
That is the furthest thing I want to do but I did say I'll do whatever she wants
And if I do it then maybe it'll show her that I'll do anything to fix this, anything to be with her
"Ok jagi. If that's what you want, I'll leave you alone", I whisper, the words completely breaking me
I want to be around her all the time and this is going to be torture
"Good", is all she says
She's silent as she continues to set up the camera and I have no choice but to walk away
I don't want to crowd her and get her angrier
I make my way out of the set and to the bathroom
Locking the door, I lean against it, sliding down to the floor, crying hysterically
I miss her already
I'm terrified she's going to leave me
I can't be without her
I can't
She's my everything, my life
I can't function without her
This is all my fault and I can't even fix it
I just hope that if I give her this space, she'll talk to me when she's calmer and I can fix everything
Because I don't know what I'm going to do without her
--------------------------------
Staring at the ceiling of my room, she is all that's on my mind
I'm exhausted but I can't sleep
Last night was torture
I couldn't sleep without her and I kept waking up almost every hour
At 5am I just gave up and got up
I texted her throughout the day but she never answered
We were just practicing today so we didn't need a photographer and I had no clue where she was all day
If I wasn't a complete idiot she would of been with me, watching the practice
I was a mess all day, fucking up every move in the choreo and getting everyone mad
I just can't help it
Today wasn't a normal day when she just couldn't make it to the practice
Today she decided to stay away from me, because she wanted to be away
I hurt her so much she doesn't want to see me
Today killed me and it solidifies what I already know
I can't be without her
Glancing at the clock, I make a decision
I need her
I can't stay here, staring at my ceiling all night
I can't miss her anymore
I need to get her back
I'll beg her, do whatever she wants, I just need her back
Getting up, I dress quickly trying not to make noise
Hongjoong actually came back to the dorm tonight and he's knocked out
I don't wanna wake him but I am gonna wake someone else up
I just hope he's not too mad
Leaving my room, I go into another
"Yunho", I whisper, shaking his arm, "Yunho"
He snores so loudly, I don't know how San stands it
"Yunho", I say a little louder, shaking him harder
"Huh?", he says groggily, his eyes barely open
"Yunho, it's me"
He squints at me, lifting his head just a little
"Seonghwa? What the fuck?", he grumbles
"I need a favor"
"What time is it?"
"2:30"
"You need a favor at 2:30 in the fucking morning?", he glares
"Yes. Please. I need you to drive me to Joanne's apartment"
"What why?", he asks rubbing his eyes, "Didn't she tell you to leave her alone?"
Yeah all the guys know what happened because of Wooyoung's big mouth
I got six more rips from all of them about what I did
I lost count how many times I was called a fucking idiot
But they're right and I deserved it
"I can't. I need to see her. I need to talk to her"
"I don't think that's a good idea", he says
"Please Yunho", I beg, trying not to cry, "I can't be without her. I feel like there's a huge hole in my heart because I'm not with her. I need her. I need to beg her, do whatever I have to get her to come back. Please"
He doesn't understand how much I need her
No one does
None of them have been in love before
They don't know that with her gone I feel like part of me is missing
And it hurts
He sighs, "Yeah ok. Give me five minutes"
"Thank you", I say in relief
"Yeah yeah"
I leave the room to let him get dressed and I wait in the living room
I need to learn how to drive so I don't have to rely on Yunho
We all need to learn to drive
"Ready?", he asks me, coming into the living room
I nod, "Yeah"
"Let's go", he says and I follow him out of the dorm
Hopefully, I'll have my jagi back soon
--------------------------------
Putting my key to her apartment in the door, I turn it, hearing the click of the lock turning
I unlock the bottom lock too, then open the door
I quietly close the door so I don't make too much noise
I don't want her to freak out or wake up in a panic
Keeping the light off, I make my way to her room
I know the way around her apartment like the back of my hand
I'm here every night
Except last night
Hopefully that will be the only night I'm ever away from her
As I get closer to her room, I hear noises
Is she awake?
Listening closer, my heart drops when I realize she's crying
Her door is slightly open and I gently push it more, looking in the room
I can make out her figure in the bed
Her back is to me, her sobs muffled from her face being in the pillow
My heart shatters and I move fast to her bed
I just want her in my arms
"Jagi?", I call softly
"Go away Seonghwa", she sobs
My god, I never hated the sound of my full name as much as I do right this second
"I can't jagi", I say softly, tears flooding my eyes
"Yes you can", she whispers
"No baby, no"
I can't stand it anymore
I get in the bed next to her, wrapping my arms around her, getting as close as I can, holding her against me
Burying my face in the back of her neck, I sob too
"I'm sorry baby. I'm so sorry. Please jagi, I was an idiot. I love you so much jagi. Please, I'll do anything baby. Please don't leave me. I need you"
"You don't need me Seonghwa. Not if your flirting with someone in front of me"
"Yes I do. It didn't mean anything jagi-"
"Yes it did. You did it to get back at me. You didn't even think that I'd tell Wooyoung to fuck off. You actually thought I'd flirt with him. That hurts Seonghwa. I love you so much and you think the worst of me"
I know it sounds like that but I don't
"Jagi no baby. I was insecure and I handled it wrong. I should of talked to you instead of doing what I did. I swear, Jo, I made a big mistake and I swear I'll never do anything like that again"
I hope she can hear how sorry I am, how much I love her, how much I regret everything
She's quiet for a few agonizing minutes and my heart is pounding
"You let her touch you", she finally says, tears in her voice, "She touched your hair. The hair I always play with, that's only supposed to be for me. You are only supposed to be for me but you acted like you wanted her"
She buries her face in her pillow, crying harder
I hate how much I hurt her
I'm never supposed to hurt her
I'm supposed to make her happy but I failed
I was so concerned with my feelings, with being so petty that I didn't think about how she was feeling
"I am just for you jagi. I swear. I don't want her. When she touched me my whole body cringed and I wanted to slap her hand away. I don't want anyone but you touching me. I swear"
She just shakes her head, making my heart pound in my chest
She's letting me hold her but she still feels so far away from me
"I just want you Jo. Just you"
"It doesn't feel that way"
"It is and I can prove it baby", I tell her, reaching in my pocket
I move my hand from around her, bringing it closer to her face, "Look jagi"
She moves her face from her pillow as I hold out the ring I bought her months ago
"What is that?", she asks
"A ring baby. I was gonna ask you to marry me. After the comeback and before the tour, I was going to take you on vacation wherever you wanted to go and I was going to propose to you.", I tell her softly, "I love you so much Joanne. You are my other half, my better half. I felt so empty spending just one day away from you. Like I was missing part of me. I knew from the first time you kissed me, I knew you were the one I want to spend my life with. I'm sorry for what I did jagi but I promise it will never happen again. I promise, I'll spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you and that you're my only one. I swear"
"What is happening right now Seonghwa?", she asks, sounding confused
I reach over to her nightstand, turning her lamp on
"Sit with me baby?", I ask her
She does while I stand up, pulling her closer to the edge of the bed
"Seonghwa what are you doing?", she asks tiredly
I look in her eyes and kneel down on one knee, holding the ring out to her
"Joanne, will you marry me?"
She's silent as she looks at me, my heart pounding in my chest
"Are you being serious?"
"Dead serious", I answer
"Yes", she says and I immediately stand up and sit next to her
"But you can't do what you did again. It killed me to watch you flirt with someone else. I hated seeing you give the smile you give me to someone else. If you want to marry me you have to be just for me. No one touches you"
"Never jagi. I promise. No one but you is ever going to touch me. I am just for you baby. I don't want anyone but you"
She gives me a small smile, "Ok Hwa"
Hwa
I can't even explain the happiness I feel just from hearing her call me Hwa
It's amazing
"I love you", she says
"I love you so much Jo"
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off me and I feel like I can actually breathe
Taking her hand, I slide the ring on her finger, it looking so beautiful on her tiny hand
She looks down at it, smiling wider, then gazes back at me, tears in her eyes
Happy tears
She moves closer to me, her arms around my neck, pulling me to her lips in a kiss
My entire body relaxes as I fall into her kiss
I'm so fucking happy I got her back, that she's now my fiancee but even more that she's in my arms right now
It's what I was missing the whole day
"Come jagi", I say, laying down and taking her with me
She immediately cuddles into me, her head on my shoulder, my arms around her and my hand in her hair, running through the soft strands
"You don't know how much I missed you baby", I whisper, "I couldn't sleep last night without you. I kept waking up until I gave up at 5am. I just wanted you"
"I wanted you too Hwa. I didn't get sleep last night either. I just kept thinking that you may not want me anymore", she says softly
"Never jagi. That will never happen. You're my everything"
"And you're mine Hwa", she says, hugging me tightly
"I'm never letting you go Jo. Never. I swear"
"Good. I'm never letting you go either"
"Good jagi"
We settle down in bed, holding each other tightly
And I finally feel whole again

June Malec fic rec!
Thanking @crystalmir for this month's theme as well (thank you for the different, they were all brilliant)! This time the theme is time-travel! The same rules apply as always, one fic per author, even though all of these authors have other brilliant fics you should be reading and if you want to add your own recs in the comments, tags, or reblogs please feel free to do so! 💜
Also, I have tagged the authors whose Tumblr account I know (aka found on their AO3 profile), but if you'd prefer I not tag you, please tell me! I don't want these to be annoying for the authors.
One-shots:
Time Loop by @Master of Unlocking: Alec is stuck in a time-loop and isn’t dealing well with it. One of my favourite fics when I need some angsty angst.
Warning for (not permanent) character death and suicide! This fic is very angsty even if it has a happy end, so you’re warned.
Summary:
Alec is done.
“You win,” he whispers as he sits down, his back against the wall of the crypt. He rubs his fingers together, trying to brush away the ash that covers them. He looks at the podium and the orb resting on it. Alec finds it hard to believe that such small thing can be the cause of such great grief.
“I’ve tried everything.” Alec looks down at his hands and in the past he would have cried, but he is already out of tears. They are all used up by now. “So you win.”
Your Name For A Capital by @theprophetlemonade: Magnus POV fic where he keeps meeting Alec in the past and it’s just so deliciously angsty and emotional in the best way!
Summary:
 “I can’t wait another hundred years to see you again, Alexander.”
He hates it, he does. He hates the way Alec looks at him with a history they haven’t yet shared.
Alec’s fingers dig into his ribs. A moment of hesitation. “You won’t have to wait that long,” he murmurs, quiet enough to be a secret. “I promise.”
“You don’t know that.”
Alec stops, forcing Magnus to stop too. Magnus squints at him, seeing double, but Alec shakes his head. “Magnus, I do.”
“How?”
“Because,” says Alec, and once again, Magnus feels the tug of magic kneading at his skin, a string of fate that wraps around his bottom rib and leads beyond his chest and enters Alec’s in exactly the same place. “You and me, we always find our way back to each other. Whatever happens.”
To endure by @thisissirius: Alec is stuck in another time loop fic and forced to watch Magnus die over and over again. Another lovely fic with a happy end but does have some temporary MCD so beware.
Summary:
“I can’t watch you die again,” Alec blurts out. He rubs his hands against his knees, looks up at Magnus through his lashes. “I don’t want to do this anymore.”
a time loop threatens to confine alec to a lifetime of losing magnus.
Teach Them Well by @ellegy42: Magnus meeting his kids in the past. This fic is just adorable and reading it never fails to bring a smile to my face.
Summary:
When Magnus sees a Shadowhunter chasing a young warlock, he comes to the natural conclusion.
It just so happens to be entirely wrong.
belong by @starkguzman: A blueberry POV that is just sublime and I want to throw all of the praise in existence at this fic. All of it. Just yessssss. Also our favourite blueberry deserves a hug or twenty cuz I said so.
Summary:
He’d only been trying to portal home. He’s done it a million times before and he doesn’t know where he went wrong this time. He had ended up in the loft, but he knew something was horribly wrong from the very first second. Nothing looked the same, nothing felt familiar. The very air he breathed caused his whole body to itch, every instinct he had screaming at him that everything was wrong. It had only been when Magnus had found him that it had been confirmed. While his Papa was exactly the same as he had been the last time Max had seen him, it was so very clear to Max that he was not the same man. A hesitant “Papa?” had only cemented it.
He wasn’t home at all. He was as far from home as he could get.
Everything it has taken (everything it has given) by @lawsofchaos1: hauntingly and painfully devastating like all of Law’s fics. There is again some temporary MCD but if you can handle that then it’s so, so worth the read.
Summary:
The sensation of blood-soaked metallic dirt beneath his cheek is insubstantial and fleeting, overlaid and then replaced with the smooth slide of cheap cotton and Alec jerks back into being entangled in the rough weave of Institute-standard sheets, agony shrieking down his side.
In which the world burns the first time and Alec and Magnus break reality (to burn it down again the right way).
Multi-Chapters or Series
Across the Lonely Decades by @dreaming-marchling: If you haven’t read this yet then please stop whatever you’re doing and go read this (unless you’re working, of course I don’t want you to get fired). This fic is angsty and stunning like all of Marchlings fics are and I am obsessed.
Summary:
Alec, Magnus and their family work to investigate a series of murders that has rocked New York, trying to figure out who this mysterious warlock is that’s murdering people in elaborate and never seen before pentagrams. What the warlock is trying to do isn’t clear either.
Well, it isn’t clear until Alec accidentally activates the spell himself and finds out in literally the worst pay possible.
Beside me by d_aia: A Ragnor POV fic! Alec time travels to the past and meets a past Magnus and Ragnor. I’m pretty sure my love for time travel fics comes from this particular fic. And also, because it bears repeating, Ragnor POV!
Summary:
A portal opened between two trees, and an oddly dressed man came through. He landed on his back and, like a bug, was trying unsuccessfully to turn over. The portal winked closed immediately after.
The man was the tall sort, had a bow and arrow, a couple of blades, and a satchel. He had rune tattoos, which marked him a Shadowhunter. He was also currently writhing in pain and bleeding all over the place.
What was a Warlock to do with such a man? * Alec goes back in time. Then things get complicated but oddly sweet, and they stay that way. Ragnor is just along for the ride.
Flames to Embers by @notcrypticbutcoy: Have I already recced this fic? Yeah, pretty sure I have. Will I do so again? Undoubtedly!
Summary:
Jace froze. His parabatai rune burned white-hot, but he hardly felt it. It was easy to forget what people looked like, long ago, but the image of the boy in front of him was unmistakable, even with the emo fringe and the scowl. In fact, when combined with the defensive stance, hazel eyes, and still-healing cut through his left eyebrow, it made the whole thing more convincing.
“What the fuck.”   ***
Teenage Alec is magically poofed into the time of his forty-year-old self, and what he finds is really quite overwhelming. Especially the really hot guy he’s apparently married to.
Or: in which Teen Alec is very grumpy, Magnus thinks he’s very cute, and Adult Alec is Tired™.
If My Heart Was A House You'd Be Home by magnusbicon: Max and Raphael do some more time travelling and create just a tickle of chaos (can you tell I adore those two beans).
Summary:
Prompt: Max and Rafe accidentally time travel to present day during a Downworld cabinet meeting.
it doesn’t matter (if it’s now or then) by @soveryaverageme: Soulmate AU meets time travel, what more could you want? 😁
Summary:
Alec’s words were branded across his right forearm, spiraling towards his shoulder. The phrase “I’m Magnus, I don’t think we’ve been formally introduced?” was stark across his skin, as bold as his own love. They were a comfort and a reminder every time he drew his bow back to fire another arrow. He knew every curve and bend of his words. He could trace them without looking.
He had never seen Magnus’ words, but he knew was that they weren’t his.

Hey there! I love your writing so far! I was wondering if you would write a little something about Data and his partner choosing pet names for each other? I think it could be cute :)
Hello, I'm so glad you're enjoying my writing!
This is such a cute idea, and thank you so much for bestowing the honor upon me to write this lovely request!
I had a lot of different ideas for this, and couldn't settle on just one, so I decided to write this in the style of those "5+1" fics. I tried to choose older/more outlandish terms of endearment, in order to avoid potentially discarding a name that someone would actually want to be referred to by. Hopefully, I was successful in this endeavor (but my sincere apologies if not)!
The final nicknames I chose were based on Data's characterization, and what names I think would be most appropriate and fitting for him and his vocabulary. I'm not sure if anyone else will agree with these choices, but I hope they're still enjoyable.
Anyways, without further ado, here's the final piece! I'm so sorry for the wait, but I really hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it 😊
5 Times Data and His Partner Tried Out Pet Names (and the 1 Time They Stuck):
Although Data didn't quite understand the necessity for having a pet name for his partner, he did understand the appeal. It was another form of affection that couples demonstrated with one another; something special shared between both parties.
Frankly, Data hadn't even considered having a designated term of endearment for you. At least, not until Geordi and himself had discussed the subject after witnessing a couple in Ten Forward one evening using their chosen pet names.
"Why did Lieutenant Smith refer to his spouse as an overly saccharine pastry comprised of honey?" Data asked, bewildered at the exchange he just observed between the aforementioned crewmembers.
Geordi chuckled, "He didn't mean it literally, Data. He meant it as a pet name."
Data still looked at his friend quizzically, "'Pet name'?"
"Yeah, a term of endearment."
Finally, he understood, "Ahh."
"Don't you and your partner have pet names for one another?"
Data shook his head, "No, we do not."
Geordi raised his eyebrows above his VISOR, "Really?"
"Indeed...I did not realize this was a necessary aspect to couplehood."
"Well, it's not exactly 'necessary', but it is a fairly common thing between couples."
"Hm, I see..."
Later that night, while Data was running an internal diagnostic, analyzing the information he had collected during his Away Mission earlier that day, and reviewing the remainder of the day's events, he considered the conversation he had with Geordi. Should he have a pet name for you? If so, which one should he choose?
After some internal analysis, Data decided that yes, he did want to designate a term of endearment for you. He figured the best way to go about choosing a name would be to use a trial-and-error method of research:
First, he would conduct personal research about pet names. He would pay special attention to their connotations and popularity. Next, he'd construct a behavioral profile for you that he would then use to determine which pet names you would most likely appreciate. He would then test the chosen names by using them to refer to you. Additionally, he'd observe your reactions to each name, and internally record his observations. Finally, he'd compile all his collected data and analyze them to determine which term of endearment you appeared to enjoy the most.
The endeavor would prove to be more difficult than he anticipated.
1. Honeybun or Honeybunch
Since Lieutenant Smith and his spouse had initiated this experiment, Data felt it was only appropriate to test out their preferred pet name first. He tested it out a few days after he witnessed their interaction, one night while the two of you were snuggled up on his couch with Spot.
Data was sitting near one end of the couch, his body oriented straight ahead and away from you. You sat at the other end of the couch, facing Data. Your legs were stretched out across his lap, and one of his hands was draped along the arm of the couch. His other hand was affectionately rubbing your knee. Spot was curled up in your lap, purring loudly as you intermittently stroked her back while you spoke.
You were currently summarizing your day's events for Data, and he listened intently. His gaze was soft and adoring, and he was meticulously making internal notes about the way you gestured certain aspects for emphasis, how your chest shook when you laughed, and the way your lips curved upwards just a little higher when you returned his eye contact. Absentmindedly, he marveled at how beautiful humans and their behaviors were, and he wondered if he could ever come close to emanating that beauty himself.
After you completed your tale, you relaxed back into your corner of the couch, ready to answer the anticipated onslaught of questions from him. Once his queries were satisfactorily answered, it grew silent between the two of you, but comfortably so.
At this point, you were relaxed, and starting to succumb to the call of sleep. As your eyes started to droop, Data spoke softly, "Shall we 'hit the hay', Honeybun?"
Your eyes shot open. Now, you were wide awake, "What?"
"Your respiratory and heart rates have decreased by 3.7% in the last 4 minutes and 51 seconds, and you have been closing your eyes for intervals longer than necessary for blinking. You are demonstrating the initial stages of human sleep," he looked at you sweetly, "I believe it would be best if we went to bed now...Honeybun. You are welcome to spend the night in Spot and I's quarters."
You stared at him curiously for a moment, before you laughed, "Okay, honeybunch; let's go to bed."
His eyebrows shot up in surprise at your unexpected reciprocation of the pet name.
You carefully picked up Spot from your lap before slowly getting up. You and Spot made your way to Data's bedroom, but said android was still on the couch, processing your previous interaction.
Based on your expression and reactions, Data deduced that you did not particularly enjoy that nickname. However, did he enjoy being called a 'honeybunch'?
"You coming, honeybunch?" you called from his bedroom.
Again, Data reviewed the name, considering his perceptions towards it, before he grimaced slightly.
2. Snookums
The next time he tested a term of endearment on you was over a week later, during a double date between the two of you and the O'Briens in Ten Forward.
You and Data had arrived first, and were chatting idly as you waited for your friends to join you. Once Keiko and Miles arrived, you all greeted each other, and caught up briefly before Data got up to get everyone some drinks.
"I'll just have a plain ol' Irish ale," Miles said.
"Some tea would be lovely," Keiko added.
Data turned to you, "And what would you like, Snookums?"
Miles chortled softly, and Keiko lightly kicked him under the table, but she was holding back a smile herself.
Data, who was too focused on you and your reaction, thankfully didn't notice the O'Brien's' interaction. He studied you carefully, patiently awaiting your response.
You blinked, still processing the nickname, "Uhh just some water, please."
He nodded once, "I shall return in a moment with our beverages."
Miles watched Data walk away, waiting until he was out of earshot. Once satisfied with the distance between the three of you & Data, Miles then turned to you with a smirk, "'Snookums'?"
You raised your eyebrows and shrugged, "I have no clue where that came from...last week, he called me 'Honeybun'."
Again, Miles snorted.
"Miles!" Keiko scolded, "Don't be rude!"
He held up his hands in mock surrender, "I'm not! They're just...interesting choices for nicknames."
"I suspect he's up to something," you theorized, "This is probably related to some personal research he's conducting, or something. In any case, I'm sure it's just a phase," you hadn't been too concerned about this seemingly random development in his behavior, but you were curious as to its purpose. It was still a fairly recent alteration, so you figured you'd let him have his fun a bit more before you confronted him about it.
"Maybe he's trying to be more romantic," Keiko offered, "in his own way."
You pondered the thought, as you watched Data gather your drinks. He certainly was romantic, in his own way. You both had lunch together almost every day, something that he had insisted on. After he discovered the ancient invention of "Post-It Notes", he made it a habit to leave you handwritten notes with them throughout your office. Their contents varied, from jokes pertaining to your area of expertise to quotes from his favorite works of literature that reminded him of you. He even enjoyed reading some of his favorite novels and plays to you. These actions may not have been the kind of whirlwind, passionate gestures that most people equated to romance, but you knew they were his way of showing his fondness for you, and you loved them (and him) dearly.
You continued to watch him as he carefully placed everyone's requested drinks on a small tray that Guinan provided. You noticed how he was slightly more careful when placing your drink on the tray, and how he placed it in front of the others. You knew his actions were deliberate and calculated, but it still brought a soft smile to your lips.
"Maybe," you finally conceded.
"And maybe you should take some notes, Miles," Keiko teased her husband.
Miles sighed, "Oh, Hell..."
3. Sweet Cheeks
"Thank you for bringing me lunch, Data," you told him, sitting down in the chair he had pulled out for you. When you had contacted him earlier to let him know that you were going to work late and wouldn't have time to grab lunch with him, he decided to bring lunch to you, in your office. Data had also taken the time to replicate some flowers in a vase and cleared your desk of all clutter, so you could have a proper table setting for your meal.
"You are welcome," he said, as he gently pushed your chair back in.
Your shared meal was relaxed and calm, but the atmosphere changed when Data suddenly dropped his latest pet name for you into the conversation, "I believe your proposed solution to your current work predicament is acceptable, and will prove to be successful, Sweet Cheeks."
You then did what Data recognized from 20th century humor to be a classic 'spit take'. He was surprised, yet somewhat delighted by this, as he had never witnessed someone perform a spit take before. He considered inquiring about it, but decided against it.
You stared at him in astonishment, blushing wildly as you coughed, "I beg your pardon??"
Your reaction was quite unexpected, and Data scrunched his eyebrows in soft confusion as he attempted to ascertain the somewhat scandalized tone of your voice, "Did I say something wrong?"
Before speaking, you cleared your throat, and waited for the shock to subside, "No, Data, you didn't say anything wrong, per say...It's just that 'Sweet Cheeks' is a very old and sometimes offensive term, depending on the context, used to describe someone with a nice ass."
Data looked at you with surprise, and perhaps embarrassment. How had he missed that pertinent fact during his research? "I see...I apologize for offending you; that certainly was not my intent," he considered this new development briefly, before tilting his head softly and returning his gaze to you, "Based on this information, that term would also be inaccurate in describing yourself because you do not have a donkey."
You couldn't help but laugh softly, "Sorry, not that kind of ass, Data. I meant it refers to someone who has an attractive butt."
Realization dawned on him, "Ahh," he raised an eyebrow, "Although it would be accurate to describe your posterior as 'attractive', I would not wish to use an offensive term to convey that fact."
"Data!" you said, astonished and blushing once again.
Data was hopelessly confused anew, "Have I offended you again?"
"No, no, it's just..." you sighed, still flustered. "Nevermind..." you carefully stood up, "I have to get back to work, so I'll catch you later," you tidied up the remnants of your lunch, pressed a quick peck to his lips, and somewhat hurriedly left your office.
4. Dumpling
"Alright, Lieutenant," Dr. Crusher said as she completed healing the large gash that ran along your forearm, "I think that just about does it. Can you wiggle your wrist for me, like this?" you watched as she moved her wrist, and you replicated her movements. Although you were able to repeat her actions, you felt a small pinch somewhere in your wrist, causing you to wince.
Dr. Crusher noticed this, and gently took your wrist in her hand, "Let me take another look," she scanned your wrist with another handheld medical scanner, "Ahh, it looks like the fracture I repaired earlier is applying excess pressure on your radial nerve," she smiled reassuringly, "It's just a pinched nerve, but I'll need to go get a different tool to repair it," she gently released your wrist, "I'll be right back."
As you waited patiently for her to return, the doors to Sick Bay opened. You looked up and saw Data making his way over to you.
Having not seen him all day, you were elated that he was here, "Data!"
He smiled faintly at your enthusiasm for his arrival, somewhat perplexed at how your mood always seemed to improve almost immediately upon the sight of him, or mention of his name. His smile widened just slightly when he reached his hand out to you, and you eagerly took his hand in yours.
After a few moments, his expression became serious, "Commander Riker informed me of the injuries you sustained during the Away Mission," he frowned slightly, "I apologize for not arriving sooner, but the Exobiology team required my assistance in analyzing the samples you and the remaining members of the Away Team collected."
"No apology necessary; I understand."
He performed a quick visual inspection of you, before his eyes met yours again. It only lasted a second, but you could have sworn you saw something akin to concern swimming in his golden irises, "Are you alright...Dumpling?"
You took a moment to absorb the new nickname before replying, "Yes, I think so...Dr. Crusher healed all of my cuts, and repaired my broken wrist. She still has to alleviate a pinched nerve, but other than that and a few scars, she says I'll be just fine."
"I am...relieved to hear that," he squeezed your hand gently, "When Commander Riker explained to the Captain and myself that you had directly thrown yourself in front of an incoming boulder, in order to displace Ensign Diaz out of its path, my mind was..." he paused pensively, as he searched for the most appropriate term, "...uncomfortably preoccupied with the prospects of how extensive and detrimental your injuries could be," his thumb rubbed the back of your hand affectionately, and his eyes appeared almost sad. "The possibility that you sustained serious injuries, or could have lost your life was rather...distracting to me, and made it difficult to complete the sample analysis."
You brought your intertwined hands up to your lips, and pressed a kiss to the back of his hand, "I'm sorry for worrying you," he looked as if he was going to remind you that he was incapable of worrying in any fashion, but he didn't vocalize the correction, "I didn't intend to land directly in that boulder's path. I was only trying to push Ensign Diaz out of the way, but I miscalculated the boulder's velocity."
His expression became neutral, "Regardless, your actions were admirable, and I am pleased that your injuries were minimal," suddenly, he gave you a pointed look. "However, as your partner, I must sternly remind you not to knowingly put yourself in unnecessary danger again," his expression softened slightly, "Dumpling."
A soft laugh interrupted your moment, and you both turned towards the sound, "Well, don't you worry, Data," Dr. Crusher had returned, a new tool in hand, "In a few moments, your Dumpling will be as good as new," you blushed at her use of the moniker, and Data took mental note of this.
Dr. Crusher held the tool against your wrist. It tingled slightly, but otherwise you felt nothing. After a few minutes, she turned it off and removed it from your skin, "Alright, move your wrist for me again?" you repeated the same motions she had shown you before. This time, there was no pain at all. She smiled, "Better?"
"Much better; thank you."
"You're welcome. I suggest you don't put too much strain on that wrist for a couple of weeks," she began to put away her tools and instruments, "If you notice any more pain, please come back to see me."
You nodded, "Thank you, I will," Data helped you carefully hop down from the Bio-Bed, "Do you want to grab some dinner now, Data?" you asked, "I have a sudden, inexplicable craving for dumplings."
Dr. Crusher held back a laugh.
5. Love Bug
"So, Reg will take care of Spot, Keiko will water and watch over our plants, Beverly and Geordi will keep tabs on our ongoing research experiments..." you reviewed the checklist on your PADD for the umpteenth time, "Okay, I think that's it...am I forgetting anything?"
"Negative, Love Bug. It appears you have everything 'under control'."
You peered up from the PADD to look at him, an eyebrow raised questioningly, "'Love Bug'?"
Data nodded, "That is what I said."
You sighed, but smiled softly, "Okay, Data; what's going on?"
"To what are you referring to?"
"In the past month, you've been calling me various nicknames. What's all this about? Are you conducting some kind of research?"
He looked at you, accessing your reaction for any kind of anger or discomfort. When he saw nothing but confusion and curiosity in your eyes, he sighed softly, "It had been brought to my attention that couples tend to utilize terms of endearment for each other," he blinked, "I did not wish to neglect one of my expected duties as a partner, nor did I wish to make you feel as though you were 'missing out' on an aspect of couplehood, simply due to my ignorance."
You softened immediately at his admission, "Oh, Data," he looked away briefly and somewhat sheepishly, "Being in a relationship with you doesn't make me 'miss out' on anything. In fact, I've gained much more from being in this relationship with you than I would from being in a relationship with anyone else."
His eyes locked with yours, and they were noticeably brighter than before, "Truly?"
You placed your PADD down on a nearby table, and took both of his hands in yours, "Truly," you repeated, before pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. When you pulled away, you flashed him a reassuring smile, "Everyone else are the ones who are missing out."
The corners of his lips curled just faintly upwards, "Thank you for alleviating my vexations in that regard," he raised his eyebrow in thought for a moment, before he looked back at you with an inquisitive expression, "Based on your reactions to each of the names I chose, I gathered that you did not particularly enjoy any of my selections. Is that an accurate conclusion?"
"I mean, they weren't necessarily bad choices, they were just...a bit dated, and neither of our styles. But yes, you're correct that I didn't particularly like them."
"Hmm," he bowed his head down slightly to better meet your eyes, "Do you have a preferred term of endearment you would like for me to use?"
You pursed your lips in consideration, "Well, I do have specific names that I do like...but I don't think I'd want you to use those, either."
He tilted his head softly, his eyebrows scrunched in slight confusion, "What do you mean?"
"Well, I think that pet names chosen between partners should be somewhat unique, in the sense that they should relate to something only the participants of that relationship are aware of, like an inside joke of some kind," you paused, "I think those names should also match both partners, not just the recipient of the name. I don't think my current preferences fit you because they aren't necessarily terms you're likely to use."
He took a few moments to analyze this new information, before he nodded, "Yes, I believe I understand. In essence, you would like for me to choose a term of endearment for you that is both unique and relatable to you, but also representative of my vernacular?"
You smiled and squeezed his hands, "Exactly, yes."
"Hmm," he blinked, "I shall take this into consideration, and 'return to the drawing board'."
You laughed softly, "Sounds good," you leaned in, and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, "Thank you for being such a sweet and considerate partner."
"You are welcome."
"What about you?"
His look of confusion returned, "What about me?"
"Is there any particular name you'd like for me to use for you?"
He thought about it briefly before raising his eyebrows, "Truthfully, I had not considered requesting a term of endearment for me, from you...Although I do not have a preference for any particular term at this time, I believe I would like for you to bestow one upon me."
You nodded, "Okay. I guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board, too...but for now, let's go enjoy our Shore Leave, Love Bug."
+1. "Dearest" and "Sunshine"
As Data's eyes flickered between his canvas and you, he could tell that you were getting restless. You had remained in your current position for the last 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 13 seconds, relatively unmoving. You had not complained once about your discomfort, but he could tell from your slight fidgeting that the required stillness was getting to you.
He reviewed the state of his canvas one more time, adding a couple more strokes of paint, before gently setting his brush down on his easel, "Would you like to take a break?"
You immediately sighed with relief, "Yes, please," you began to move, but stopped, "if it's not too much of an inconvenience for you?"
"Not at all. In fact, you have been an excellent muse thus far; much better than Spot. You are more than deserving of a break," he set down his paint palette, and tilted his head as he reviewed his progress. He was able to get a good portion of your silhouette and distinctive features outlined onto his canvas. He would only need your assistance for another session or two before he could complete the painting on his own.
"Can I see it?" you asked excitedly as you made your way over to him.
"Please," he said, and stepped aside to allow you viewing space.
You looked it over, and smiled widely, "Wow, this looks amazing already, Data! You're definitely going to get the highest marks from your art teacher for this," the two of you continued to admire the beginnings of his painting in comfortable silence for a moment, before you broke it, "Can I ask you something?"
Data turned to look at you, "Of course."
"Why did you decide to paint me for this assignment?"
"In my art course, we recently discussed the Aestheticism art movement. The core belief of this movement was 'art for art's sake'. In other words, it prioritized the aesthetic value of art, rather than the common belief at the time of the movement's introduction that art must serve a particular, didactic purpose," he paused, and inhaled sharply before continuing, "For this assignment, my instructor desired for myself and my classmates to create a work of art, in the tradition of the Aestheticism movement."
You absorbed all the information he just provided, attempting to determine how it related to you. After realizing you still didn't understand the connection, you asked, "That's all really interesting, Data, but what does it have to do with me?"
He eagerly continued, "After careful consideration, I realized that you embody Aestheticism. Although you can and do appreciate the hidden meanings of not only art, but many aspects of life itself, you also recognize the importance of creativity with no inherent purpose," he looked at you softly, "During one of our thoughtful, evening conversations we shared in the initial stages of our relationship, when I had explained to you my confusion as to my purpose of being, you responded that perhaps my father had no true purpose in creating me. Perhaps the only reason he created me was because he wanted to produce something beautiful, simply because he could. Perhaps he merely wished to add something of aesthetic value to the universe. Perhaps he was an artist, just as much as he was the forefront of cybernetics."
He inhaled sharply again, still looking at you, "I have found myself revisiting that conversation consistently and frequently, as frequently as the rate at which you are a part of my thought processes. This lesson, in particular, had triggered my memory banks to replay this memory 3.27 times more than usual. Thus, I deduced that you would be the most appropriate topic for this assignment."
You blinked, staring at him in complete bewilderment. You certainly weren't expecting that answer! Your brain felt like it was malfunctioning, uncertain how to process all this information.
As your brain melted inside your skull, you felt him gently take your hand, "Additionally, this assignment has also made me realize how...dear you are to me. You are always willing and eager to assist me in my hobbies, activities, assignments, and other endeavors. You have never expressed agitation nor annoyance with me, and always allow me to 'babble' to any length or degree. You have always encouraged myself and my passions, even when they potentially served an inconvenience to you."
He squeezed your hand gently, "The term 'dearest' refers to someone who is: loved and cherished, greatly valued, precious," he exhaled softly, "Although I am incapable of love, I am capable of cherishment, and seeing the value in others and objects. I certainly cherish you, and see how invaluable you are to many individuals, including myself," he looked at you with pure determination, and maybe a hint of pride, "Therefore, I believe the most fitting term of endearment for you is 'Dearest'."
At this point, you were short-circuiting, and your brain was absolute mush. Data was always eloquent with his wording, but this was definitely one of the most eloquent things he had said to you. It made his earlier statement of being incapable of love seem completely impossible. No one could speak in such a way about anyone or anything, if they weren't capable of love in some capacity or degree.
He watched you cautiously and patiently, his eyes moving slightly from side to side as he awaited your response. Your brain was still unable to form coherent thoughts, and no words escaped your lips. As his words sunk in and settled as warmth in your chest, all you could do was beam at him as you threw your arms around his neck, and pressed your lips to his in a deep kiss. He was frozen for just a moment, evidently surprised by your reaction, but gently moved his hands to hold your waist and returned your kiss.
After a couple of minutes of eager kissing, he pulled away, "Based on your reaction, I assume that you find this an acceptable term of endearment for yourself?"
You laughed softly, "Yes, Data, I do. It's perfect."
His lips curled upwards into a faint but bright smile, "I am glad you think so, Dearest."
You played with the ends of his hair that tickled his collar, still beaming at him, "You know, this just confirms my theory that 'Sunshine' would be the most fitting pet name for you."
He tilted his head, analyzing the moniker, "Intriguing. What is your connotation of this nickname, as it pertains to me?"
"Well, ever since I met you, you've brought so much light and sunshine into my life. You're a very bright, and warm person, both literally and figuratively, that you are an embodiment of the sun and its sunshine. I realized I've come to think you of as my personal ray of sunshine," you wished you could convey your thoughts and ideas as refined as the manner in which he just did, but the state of your mind was still too slushy to do so.
At your admission and unexpectedly sentimental token, his expression softened. You could tell he was analyzing and processing your sentiments with a fine-toothed comb, no doubt for further review later.
He was quiet for a long time, or at least, a long time for an android, and you began to shuffle nervously, "Do you find the name acceptable?"
Again, he was quiet as he mulled over your query. Finally, his eyes met yours, "Yes, I believe I do. I never considered the similarities between myself and the sun, but I can understand how you came to those conclusions," he blinked, "Yes," he repeated, "I do 'like' it, Dearest."
Your lips brushed against his once again, "Glad to hear it, Sunshine."

Hello all!! This post is dedicated to my newly started fanfic that I have been preparing for the past several months. It can be found on Wattpad on my profile, but you can just click here .
Down below, I will add one random chapter of the fic, just so you can read a little bit of it. But, of course, I would appreciate it if you could go and support my full work :).
Pairing: Spencer x fem!oc
Warnings: mentions of crime, crime scenes, fluff, a little bit of swearing here and there. no use of y/n, the oc has her own name!
Content: The bau is called in for another case. Spencer and OC have feelings for each other but don't want to accept it, even if it's horrifically obvious. After the unsettling case, Spencer tries to calm OC and help her relax her mind.
Word Count: 3.6k
PLEASE KNOW THAT I NAMED THE OC SINCE HER NAME IS USED IN THE FANFIC. Harper White :)
"Holy shit, what did you do?" my mouth fell open at the sight of him. Not him. His hair. Or... well... the lack of it.
"What do you mean?" Spencer looked confused as he sat at his desk.
"Where are the curls? Where did they go?" Garcia came rushing in after my loud gasp.
"Did you join a boy band?" Hotch walked by, his eyes stuck to the obviousness in the room.
"No, what the hell is wrong with you, I got a haircut!" Now he just asked bluntly.
"You look like a twelve-year-old." I leaned onto my desk that was opposite of him, making direct eye contact with him.
"Is it that bad?" he brushed his hair with his fingers. His hands.
"No, Spence!" I felt bad now. "Jokes aside, I actually think you look... cute." I smiled slightly, trying to compliment him. "I think we were all just very used to your curls. I even sometimes imagined you with tied up hair, maybe a bun?" I looked over at Emily.
"Holy shit, do you know how many girls you could pull with that look?" she said excitedly.
"Not that pretty boy would want anyone aside our princess here." Derek came into the office holding his coffee and giving me the look I knew all too well.
"Fuck you." I spat at him with a grin, watching him as he passed by and sitting down at his desk.
"You know you love me." he teased as he sat down behind me.
"Hey, guys, we got a new one." JJ called and like on queue, we all got up and made our way to the conference room.
"Harp, did you really mean it?" Spencer stopped me.
He stopped me by taking my hand. I turned around to face him, and he had this genuine look on his face.
"Spence, we were just joking. You look really good. I like this new boyish look." I said and drove my hand through his now short hair, still the front pieces were. "Change can be good sometimes."
Now, I don't know what came over me, but, without hesitation, I lowered my hand down to the tip of his tie and pulled him by it to get him down to my height and just placed a small peck on his cheek. I think he was surprised as I was because we just looked at each other. I smiled and quickly turned on my heel and continued walking to the conference room, even though I could hardly feel my legs.
We entered, he came in after me and we sat down around the table, waiting for the briefing. I opened the case file that was presented in front of me and looked at the young woman. She couldn't have been much younger than me. In my few years that I've worked here, I often find female victims to be my age. The "mid to late 20s" is a phrase I get shivery from. Brunettes, pretty, young, successful...
"I saw that." Emily's quiet voice snapped me back inti the room.
"Sorry, what?" I looked up from the papers.
"That little stunt just now. I saw that." she smirked, and it hit me what she was talking about.
"Oh, God. Emily!" I tried to brush it off. "Don't make a big deal out of this."
"What's a big deal?" Rossi came in and passed the two of us, taking his seat next to Emily.
"I just witnessed the first ever White x Reid cheek kiss." she made that lovey dovey sound she always does. I rolled my eyes, but Rossi got into character as he looked at Emily, almost excited.
"You're kidding?" he waited before Emily shook her head 'no'. "About time. I was getting sick of those random weird hugs they exchanged."
"I get you, I had the urge to push them together the other day." Derek jumped in.
"I don't want to hear it from you, shit-face." I pointed my finger at him.
They all laughed, but Spencer just smiled to himself. His cheeks took up the bright pink color. For years now, everyone is telling us that it's obvious we like each other, but we just say that it's not true. But it's deadly obvious. We just don't want to admit it. Nor to each other but maybe not to our selves either. The friendship we have is great. Who would want to ruin something like that? Why risk losing someone like Spencer over a stupid crush.
It's just a crush.
"Okay, so we got a woman in her min 20s, in Boise, Idaho. Reported missing. It looks like it's a pattern between these two other missing victims with the same M.O." JJ clicked her remote and showed us the pictures of two other women. "All three kidnaps are almost exactly two months apart. As much as we gathered, the women were reported missing only three days after they were abducted."
"So wait, this guy keeps them for almost three days? What does he do with them?" I asked.
"That's what we are hoping to find out after going to the scenes." Hotch said.
"It looks like they had their lives pretty straight up. All of them in relationships, secure jobs..." Derek flipped through the files as he talked.
"Normal suburban streets, gives the UnSub privacy." Rossi added.
"The victims are quite different, their appearances are. Different hair color, different body shape..." Spencer continued.
"No signs of struggle or forced entry in either of these cases." I pointed out.
"Women like this don't just vanish." Rossi spoke up again.
"Exactly, which is why Garcia did her digging magic and found out about their lives." JJ said and pointed to our tech girl.
"There isn't much to say but that it was obvious how the UnSub was doing it. Their online lives are extremely open and public. Online-life-sharing shit, sorry for the expression, but they were everywhere. Facebook, Twitter, you name it." she said as she pulled up a post from the last victim with the date three days prior to the abduction. "This was the last post from our numero uno, and it matches very much with the other posts on our other victims' wall. Going on a vacation, going on a business trip, but looking at the time stamps, they were posted a day before they went missing."
"The UnSub posted them?" Hotch realized.
"This is like a guide of 'how to know where I'm at if you want to find me' for serial killers. Social networking sites are a goddamn goldmine for this kind of information." I said, almost looking sadly at their posts. It was like a call-up for these kind of people.
"I agree. Especially these women, they posted everything, from what they were having for dinner to where they were going on dates." Spencer confirmed my thought.
"If the UnSub hacked into their accounts to post these, he probably knows around computers. He could be really smart." Emily said.
"He's also patient. Two months between each of these, then again he gets three days to do what he wants with them." Rossi looked back at the files.
"Which means that these women could already be dead. We need to find out what he does in those three days and get this son of a bitch before he can continue his work." Hotch stopped to look at us. "Wheels up in thirty."
***
I tried to reach up to the small space for my bag above my seat in the jet but struggled to get the bag inside. It didn't help that I was short, but the bag was very overpacked, and it almost fell on my head. I closed my eyes, expecting a thud on my head, but instead, I felt the relief of its weight on my hands. I looked up to see two hands holding the bag and Spencer standing next to me.
"You need help?" he asked, looking down at me.
"No?" I tried to save the little pride I had left.
"You sure about that?" he smirked, still looking down at me.
Still holding my hands up, head down, him holding my bag, I couldn't say 'yes'. "No?" the words came out almost like a squeal.
He giggled, and finally pushed the bag up into the small space and closed it. "What did you put in there? I only have a small bag for these kind of things."
"That's because you are a man, Spence. I, on the other hand, am a young woman who needs many things for a undefined period of time away from home." I dusted off my jacked, not that it was dusty, but I needed to look down because I could feel my cheeks burning up.
I didn't realize till now how close he was.
He smelt like coffee.
"Uh, listen about the thing this morning I didn't-" I started hoping this conversation could end quickly. But I guess he had other plans.
"Why did you do that?" he asked and looked down at me again.
I didn't have a choice but look back up at him. His hazel eyes were almost wide open, but he had a scent of mystery in them. Why did he want to know? "What do you mean?"
His gaze was going up and down from my eyes, then from one to the other. What was he looking at?
"Why did you do it?" he almost repeated his question.
I couldn't stop looking at him. I wanted to. I could feel shivers going down my spine.
Was he getting closer?
"I-uh... I don't know..." I almost whispered.
He was getting closer.
"I think you do." he whispered back, his hands in his pockets, but he was slowly, almost insensibly inching his head downwards to me.
I tried to back up, because I couldn't handle him being so close. But when I tried to back up, my knees met with the chairs and I fell down on them, him following me. A small yelp escaped my lips before I crashed with the cushions beneath me. After a second , I realized his hands were on the sides of my head and he was inches away from me. I stared blankly into his face, but his eyes were traveling again up and down my face. I guess my eyes copied his pattern and I realized what he was looking.
He was looking at my lips.
"I'm sorry I-" he started, finally. The silence was choking me.
"No, I-" I stuttered. "It's okay..."
"Here, let me help you." he said and pushed himself up. Holding the table with one hand, he reached with the other to pull me up. I guess he underestimated how light I was when he pulled me, making me fly up and bumping into his chest.
"Shit, I'm sorry, I-" I quickly apologized.
"No, this is on me and-" he stopped.
I looked up at him only to see him staring at something on my face. "What?"
"You, uh-" he stuttered. "Your lipstick got smudged a little."
Crap. "Oh, here?" I brushed on the tip of my lips.
"No, it's still there, just here." he tried pointing at his face, mirroring where the smudge was.
I wiped again. "Better?"
He made a frowning face. "No, it's- " he sighed, "You know what, let me just-"
Cue 'Careless whisper'.
He raised up his hand only to cup my chin with his long fingers. They were warm. His touch was warm. He swiped on the bottom line of my lips. My lower lip moved with his swipe and all I could do was feel the sensation of his touch. He looked back up at me, but even after he got rid of the smudge on my lips, he didn't move his hand. I don't think I wanted him to..
"Hey, sorry we're late, I forgot where I put my deodorant." Emily's voice made us both abruptly step back. The, now, lack of his touch left a weird cold on my face.
"I already told you, it's no big deal." Derek added as he came in with his bag behind her.
"Maybe for you, but we ladies need that. It's a necessity." JJ came in next.
"I got those natural scents. No need for those chemical ones." Derek laughed and placed his bag next to mine in the compartment above our seats.
"Ew..." I muttered after letting him take the window seat. "I'm not sure I want to sit next to you anymore."
"I'll spray perfume on him, so he smells like flowers." JJ joked, and the three of us laughed while Derek frowned.
"Hey, how did you get you bag up there?" he turned to me and asked, pointing above his head.
"I helped her, she was struggling with it since it was pretty heavy." Spencer said as he sat next to Emily opposite from us.
"That's it, pretty boy. You gotta be a gentleman." he mouthed those last words while swinging in his seat.
"You can really be a lot sometimes." Emily gave him a deathly glare, to which he only laughed more.
I, too, laughed. Rossi and Hotch came in and gave us the files to look over again while we fly. The plane soon took off. Looking down at the now familiar pictures, I wondered about their families and what waited for us when we arrive. I looked at Spencer through my eyebrows, only to catch him looking back at me. He quickly looked back down at his file, a small smile curving on his lips. I smiled to myself.
"How can someone be interested in this?" Rossi asked, a look of confusion on his face.
"What do you mean?" Emily asked.
"Their social network walls. Who has the need to share these things with the world, just look at this. 'Having sushi for dinner. Yum.' 'My boss is making me stay in the office late again. Grr.'
We all laughed as he read those status updates. It was funny how people nowadays had the need to put their life out there.
"I think that's just it. The hope that someone out there cares about the things we do, that we do matter." Derek said after he stopped laughing.
"So our UnSub is finding these women on their online profiles. Can't we use that to find him?" Emily asked.
"The lead detective already tried going through their followers lists, they all check out." JJ answered her.
"Social networks can be extremely insecure. Recently, Facebook tried to update their privacy settings and in doing so made every profile viewable." Spencer said and pressed his lips together.
"Do you have a Facebook profile?" JJ asked me.
"God, no. I run away from social media." I replied. "But even if I did, my first status update would be 'Enjoying Rossi's special spaghetti dish. Yum.' " We all laughed again.
"This does tell us how he finds them, but not how he gets into their houses." Hotch said, bringing us back to the brutal reality of this situation.
"Maybe a key copy?" Rossi asked.
"Maybe, but look, the last victim had a home security installed. The code was entered at 1:56am, not only that, but he somehow went past her dog too." Spencer read from the files. "A German Shepard went missing the night that she did."
"This guy had to be in and out of the house before..." Derek said. "He builds up a rose so he gets in, gets familiar with the house and knows he can safely come back and kidnap them."
"What about unknown people you feel safe letting inside your home?" Rossi continued his thought. "Home repair guys, someone who volunteered to walk your dog?"
"The detective looked into that too, no one came close to being a killer." JJ added to our brainstorm.
"We need to go over everything ourselves. Morgan, Prentiss, start with the last abduction sight. The rest of you go over the women's lives, see if you can find anything. Start with family and friends on their social networking sites. If this is how the UnSub is finding them, maybe they are connected without even realizing it." Hotch gave the orders, we were only left to nod.
***
It was a twisted case. We lost another woman in the process. The bastard kept them in a freezer. A fucking freezer. Just because they had this specific face symmetry. Even after years working in this department, I still find myself questioning how can people be so wicked and evil. The worst part is the way we find them. We might not be like them but we sure as hell know to think like them. Does that make us that much different?
I stared at the endless sky outside my window. It was almost night-time, so watching the sun go down was majestic. The colorful clouds flew around, the sun slowly hid behind them. On the other hand, Derek was snoring on the small sofa in the back of the jet. Rossi and Hotch were reading something on the other part, JJ and Emily were sleeping in their chairs next to me. Spencer was sitting across from me reading one of his books, quickly shifting through the pages.
My mind was still foggy. I tried to clear my mind and think about anything else other than the twisted ways the human mind could work sometimes. I stood up, trying to reach for my bag up in the compartment above my seats. I tried to stretch up to it, but it was too high up.
I fucking hate being short.
"Do you need help?" Spencer asked quietly.
"If you don't mind. I just wanted to take out my headphones, I forgot to take them out earlier." I explained.
"No, it's no problem. Here-" he said and got up from his seat. He opened the small space and pulled out my bag. I took it from him and took my mp3 player and headphones before giving the bag back to him to put it back up. He closed the small space and sat back down in his seat. "You okay?" he asked while picking up his book.
"Yeah, why?" I looked at him, a bit weirded out by his question while I connected the headphones to the player and tried to find one of the songs that I use to calm down."
"It's just, most of the time that you listen to music on out flight back home is after a pretty traumatic case. Not just that but emotionally exhausting. Also, when the victims are similar to you, their age, their lives, they are almost identical to the life you have, and the worst part is that those groups of women are the most targeted. When you don't want to think, you play music. You try to zone out with it." he explained. "So, I guess that's why I'm asking if you're okay. I think you're not."
I looked at him, almost frozen. He said everything. What else was there to say? Sometimes, I hated that he could read me with such ease. I put the player and headphones beside me and lean on the table that separated us. "You're right. I'm not okay." I sigh and brush my face with my hands. They were cold. I support my head with my hands, fingers intertwined with each other. "What he said to Emily. It's still bugging me. You will never understand what I see when I look at them. But my followers do." I recited his words. "It was their faces, but why? What was so special about them?"
Spencer thought about my words. "Well, it could be multiple things. A reflection of himself, someone in his life, someone he wished to have or to be."
"But why? What if my face was similar to theirs? Would I be next?"
"Your face isn't like theirs."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I raised an eyebrow.
"No-no, I didn't mean it like that. I meant that your symmetry of your face isn't like the victims face. I didn't mean to say your face wasn't nice, I think your face is beautiful. Not beautiful, pretty, just- uh, good-looking is what I'm trying to say." he stuttered.
I smiled at his clumsy words. He's cheeks again started turning into a shade of pink. "I think your face is good-looking, too."
I took the player back into my hands to find a song that now I was determined to listen. It was in my head and I needed to listen to it. "What are you gonna listen to?" he asked.
"I have this song in my head, I think I'll start with it and then just go with shuffle. The playlist is good so I don't mind what comes after." I said, not looking up from the small screen.
"Really? What's the song?"
" '74-'75' "
"I don't think I heard it."
"Do you want to listen to it with me?" I asked, finally able to find the song and looking back up at him.
"You sure? I don't want to mess with your time listening to music that calms you."
"Of course, I'm sure. Come here." I patted the seat next to me.
He smiled and got up to sit next to me. I gave him one of the headphones. "Right." and I put in the left one. I started the song and looked up at him. The opening course was a guitar solo, which I always loved in songs. He smiled back at me, bobbing his head slightly in the rhythm. After that approvement, I relaxed my head on the cushion on the back of my seat, trying to relax. Maybe even sleep.

fic recs!!!!!!!!!! fic recs!!!!!
my unashamedly smutty fic rec is one i forget the name of where i think it’s 7th year watford and simon walks in on baz with a dildo up his arse and then (blushes for an eternity, obviously and then) asks baz to show him about it and it escalates and by the end they’re in love 😍
hahah why hello there anon!!! What an entrance. Welcome to the blog.
You know, I think I have read that fic!! I also can't remember the name of it but 🥵
For you and all the people I have co-opted into reading these books, I will list some of my favourite Snowbaz fics...this is by no means a complete list, but I think about these all the time and have the epubs saved.
Restoration Ecology by @captain-aralias - this is a post-Carry On canon divergent fic and it is EVERYTHING. [Simon has never forgiven Baz for ruining his life at the start of eighth year. He’d hoped never to see Baz again. Ever. But when Baz applies for a position on the Coven, it’s impossible not to hire him. So – now, they’re working together. And as much as Simon wants to continue hating Baz, the dead spots between them are starting to heal …]
This Will All Go Down In Flames by @facewithoutheart - BAND AU! BAND AU! After the fall of the Watford Goats, the two stars get back together to re-record their last album, but they haven't spoken in 10 years...takes place in Austin, TX. I love it. I think about it twice a week.
The Mirrors That Hold Us by @artsyunderstudy - My favourite Simon Snow fic. Honestly anything that Ashton writes is fucking amazing, but this one is Carry On divergent and broke my heart and then put it back together. They are also writing Someone Wicked at the moment and it is SO GOOD. Recommend everything they do.
Rebel Rebel by BasicBathsheba - The rebelverse series is everything to me. It tells the story of what happened in the early years at Watford and then is canon divergent. Sequel Golden Years is just as amazing. For Marauders fans, it's sort of like the ATYD of the Simon Snow series. Sort of.
Hang The Moon by @captain-aralias - Arranged marriage! There is also a sequel. [when the Old Families offer the Mage a deal that will put an end to their conflict, he accepts. Simon hates everything about the deal. (And his life. And he definitely hates Baz.) He’s only going along with his part in it because he’s the Mage’s Heir and he has to. There definitely aren’t any other reasons.]
network connectivity problems by BasicBathsheba - TEXTING FIC! Simon texts a number he thinks is IT. It is not.
Local Hero by BasicBathsheba & breadofgod - football (soccer) au! Baz is a world famous footy star, Simon runs the fan pub in his home town and is his biggest fan. Baz is suddenly back in town, trying to keep a low profile. Enemies (sort of) to Lovers. READ IT.
We Still Bloom by @artsyunderstudy - I couldn't post this list without including this absolutely perfect Hanahaki disease fic!! The art for this is absolutely stunning (as is all the art for Ashton's fics).
Slings and Eros by palmimpressed - This is a WIP but it's so good. It's a loose interpretation of the Eros and Psyche myth.
Unintended by @captain-aralias - Fake relationship trope! They are just best friends pretending to be engaged and are definitely not in love with each other....
Four Funereal Weddings and An American Stag Do by @captain-aralias - AWTWB au. Simon walks out in chapter 10 and doesn't come back. Nine months later, Baz sees him at a wedding. Another one that breaks my heart and puts it together again.
Large Black Coffee by BasicBathsheba - Coffee shop au. Every day Baz comes in to get coffee, and every day he finds a new insult on his cup.
Let My Love Open The Door by tbazzsnow - This is a quarantine fic, but please don't let that deter you. It's so lovely. Baz is a teacher stuck at home, Simon is the delivery driver from the local pub he orders from. They become friends and then some, all through the door of Baz's house.
Paperback Writer by BasicBathsheba - Publishing au! If you haven't figured it out yet, this author never misses. Baz is a junior editor, Simon is an author. [Sir Scone is the bane of Baz’s life. Trite children’s fantasy with a golden hero and ferocious dragons and intrepid princesses. They’re wildly popular, and Baz hates editing them almost as much as he hates the man who writes them: Simon Salisbury, Mage’s pet project author, and also maybe, possibly, the most handsome man Baz has ever met.]
Bite Me by TheWeatherBee - [When Simon’s magic makes a spell out of “bite me” during a fight, Baz finds he can’t eat anything until he’s bitten Simon. Which he won’t do. No matter how much Simon wants him to.] Hot.
5 Days, 5 Nights, All-Inclusive by RooBadly - [Simon Snow (29, single, and working for the Coven) finds himself press-ganged into covering for the usual guide on the Coven's yearly tour of magickal Britain. All he has to do is read from the cards and make sure the same number of mages gets back on the coach as got off. Doable. Until he sees the guest list. And then it's time to sow some chaos.]
This Must Be The Place by BasicBathsheba - This one made me cry, what of it. [Simon is stuck in juvenile care over the summer. He's lonely, disillusioned, and desperate to talk to Penny. But when he makes a Snapchat to try to contact her, he ends up talking to the most unlikely person.]

5, 6, 18, 21, and 23 for frodo!! <3
Thank you
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
"Whither Must I Wander?" from Ralph Vaughan Williams' song cycle Songs of Travel. (I like this recording by Anthony Rolfe Johnson.) The opening lines are "Home no more home to me / Whither must I wander?" and the sense of leaving home never to return almost makes it feel like it was written specifically for Frodo.
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
I definitely share his vulnerability to thoughts of despair. Right now I feel like I don't share any positive traits with him.
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
Honestly, I like his relationship with Boromir and feel like it is overlooked. The scene when Boromir says to him "You carry a heavy burden, Frodo. Don't carry the weight of the dead" makes my heart hurt, but it's a beautiful moment. I'm sure Frodo needed to hear that in his time of fresh grief, and in that moment Boromir is the only character to show him kindness or acknowledge him at all. Everyone else in the Fellowship, even Sam, looks away from him. I also love when Boromir says something like "I know why you seek solitude. You suffer; I see it day by day." Even as the Ring is about to take him, Boromir shows true sympathy and compassion for him.
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
I've pretty much stopped writing fics at this point; I seem stuck in a permanent state of writer's block, and I can't get motivated to do anything. With the fics I have written about him, I like writing from his point of view. I've tended to prioritize post-Quest fics, and the post-Quest passages from the books aren't written from his POV, so it's nice to write from his perspective. I don't like writing dialogue, not just for him but in general. I feel like I'm terrible at writing dialogue.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
I don't have a single favorite, but this is one of my favorites. I generally love images of him looking down. I've also previously used this picture as a profile pic.

What’s more annoying than telling your roommate to stop yelling at his screen at three in the morning?
Having to tell him for the fourth time.
If you knew Jungkook was an avid video gamer, you would never have agreed to room with him. But alas, his profile was too perfect to be true. A quiet guy who stayed holed up in his room? One that knew how to cook? Someone that could lift your heavy move-in boxes? Truly a winner.
If only that was the whole case.
Jungkook indeed stayed in his room, could cook, and could lift heavy items.
But he also made loud noises in the middle of the night, cooked at the weirdest times so you couldn’t leech off his food, and made you pay him anytime he helped you move items.
What a menace.
“If you don’t turn off that stupid screen at ten, I’m going to cut up all your cords,” you threatened, towel and spare clothes in your arms as you peeped your head in Jungkook’s room.
You were preparing to go to sleep early due to having stayed up late last night because of his stupid shooting game. It was also raining outside, which would aid in you falling asleep faster since you found the rain peaceful.
Jungkook didn’t reply and simply kept his focus on his screen. He wore a headset, fingers flying across the keyboard. Irritated at his lack of response, you stomped over to him and yanked off his headset.
To your utter annoyance, that didn’t even phase him.
“Jeon Jungkook, are you even listening?” you hissed.
Laughter came from somewhere in the room, but you two were the only one's home. It was not until you heard another voice that you knew where the sound was coming from.
“Is that your mom?” the voice laughed. “Tell her to go back to knitting a sweater for her cat.”
A gasp left your lips at the implication you were some old, wrinkly lady. You raised the headset to your face. You didn’t put it on, but you put your mouth near the microphone, so his “friends” could hear.
“How about you go eat your supper and go to bed, little vermin,” you angrily replied. “And I’ll have you know cats dressed in sweaters are cute!”
More laughter emitted from the headset.
“Supper?” another voice echoed. “I don’t think that’s his mom—more like his grandma.”
“Why you tiny piece of-”
“Give me the headset,” Jungkook finally acknowledged you. Not wanting to hear any more of the pests known as kids, you thrust the equipment in his open hand. You noticed his character had died and was waiting to respawn.
Jungkook slipped the headset back on and continued his game. “Relax guys. She’s just my roommate.”
Even though the device wasn’t near your ears, you could still hear their replies.
“Your grandma is your roommate?”
“She’s so uptight!”
“Seriously, tell her to calm down.”
Your hands clutched your belongings tighter. You told yourself to walk away—fighting with them was no use; however, you couldn’t stop yourself when you leaned down near Jungkook’s face to get near the mic once more.
“I hope your parents make you eat a pound of vegetables.”
“Go away,” Jungkook huffed and gave you a gentle shove.
“Tell me you’ll turn that off at ten.”
“Eleven,” he bargained, eyes glancing at you when his character died again. You must really be distracting him for him to have died twice within five minutes. Good. You hoped his ranking plummeted.
“Ten-thirty,” you said. “That or I grab my scissors.”
“Fine. Ten-thirty. Now leave before I get my own scissors.”
You scoffed, hand on your hip. “And do what with them? Make paper snowflakes?”
Jungkook smirked at you before turning back to his game. “Don’t think I don’t know where you hide that stupid stuffed chipmunk of yours.”
Your jaw dropped slightly as you stared at him incredulously.
“Ten-thirty,” you repeated firmly before walking out of his room and shutting the door. The walls weren’t thick, but at least it kept some noise out.
You started making your way to your bathroom; however, you couldn’t get rid of the paranoia that Jungkook really knew where Mr. BonBon was. You made a quick detour to relocate your favorite plushie. You had won it at an arcade on your thirtieth try. It held sentimental (monetary) value.
Once you were done, you trekked to your bathroom. Finally, you could end your day with a relaxing steamy shower. No doubt your shoulders were sore from all the stress you’ve endured lately. From tests to 3 a.m. hollering, you couldn’t wait to have some time to decompress.
The feel of the hot water pouring down on your body had your eyes closed momentarily. You could probably stay there for half an hour, but your goal tonight was to go to sleep early. You kept that in mind as you went through your shower routine. You were just rinsing the soap from your body when the lights suddenly went out.
Startled by the unexpected darkness, you fumbled to turn off the water. It must be Jungkook pranking you.
You hastily grabbed your towel and wrapped it around your body, so he couldn’t get a free show.
“Turn the lights back on, Jungkook!” you exclaimed.
When you didn’t get an answer, your brain started conjuring up fantasies. And not the ones where you find a charming partner and run off into the sunset. No, these thoughts consisted of a three-headed beast clawing its way from your drain, or a long-haired lady crawling from your mirror. While living with Jungkook was a pain in your rear, you much rather live with him for eternity than be captured by one of your “mind monsters.”
The haunting thoughts had you hastily scurrying from the shower, hair still dripping water and making a mess of your tiles. That was the least of your worries as an imaginary hand was reaching from the mirror that you passed on your way out of the bathroom.
You took two steps into your bedroom only to scream when you saw a dark figure standing a few feet from you. Your hand reached to your side to grab whatever was closest while the other clutched the towel around you. When you finally grabbed onto something, you flung it as hard as you could at the mysterious person.
They grunted, stumbling back a little and cursing under their breath.
“Calm down, it’s just me,” Jungkook grunted.
Your heart was still racing, but at least your shoulders eased.
“I could’ve killed you!” you screeched.
“I’d like to see you try,” he huffed. Even though you couldn’t see his face, you just knew that little shit was rolling his eyes.
As you were calming down, a loud thunder cracked outside. It had you jumping and shuffling closer to Jungkook unknowingly. That must be the reason for the power outage.
“I’m going to try to find a flashlight,” Jungkook spoke.
“What about your phone?” you wondered.
“Misplaced it, but I rather not use it right now anyway if I can’t charge it,” he said. He started to move, but you quickly stumbled closer so you could grab his wrist.
“Wait!” you exclaimed.
Jungkook paused in his steps to look at you. “What?”
“I- I can help you find it.”
The quiver in your voice grabbed Jungkook’s attention and he finally put some effort into reading your body language.
You were tensed, hand still holding onto him and your towel tightly. You were also strangely too close.
“You’re scared of the dark,” he stated, a small chuckle sounding at this realization.
“No! I’m j-just trying to help.”
Maybe you were scared. You hated the way your paranoia skyrocketed when you couldn’t see. There was something too eerie about having one of your five senses taken away from you.
“Are you crying?” he questioned, and you felt his hand brush against yours that held him.
“What? No. Why would you-”
“Something wet landed on me. Please don’t tell me that was your snot or something,” he replied, voice full of dread.
Your hair was still wet and probably leaving your floor slippery.
“I just came from the shower! It’s just water,” you groaned and slowly let go of his arm.
“O-oh.” He sounded startled.
Your eyes slowly began to adjust to the darkness as some of the moonlight crept in from the window through your curtain.
“Let me change, but don’t-” you sighed at how much you needed him. “-don’t leave me.”
You expected Jungkook to make a witty reply, but he simply nodded, an action you could faintly see.
“Only if you let me sit on your bed,” he bargained. Each time he would climb on your bed, you would always shoo him away—claiming he was spreading his germs all over your clean sheets.
“Fine,” you said. You stuck out your arms as you felt your way to your closet. You could see the outline of some closer objects, but you still felt uncomfortable not seeing far away.
“Ah, fuck,” Jungkook cursed before you heard thudding.
“What happened?” you asked quickly, heart beginning to race as your mind pictured Jungkook getting snatched by the monster under your bed.
“Nothing,” he groaned. “When did you put a bench by your bed?”
Your body relaxed again. He must have tripped over it and fallen. “A day ago.”
Once you found your closest, you quickly changed to whatever your hands touched. You had clothes in the bathroom, but there was no way you were risking getting grabbed by another monster in there.
“Done,” you announced and reached out again. Jungkook met you halfway, taking your hand in his. It was your first time holding his hand, and you didn’t like the way your body warmed at his touch.
“Just going to go to my room; I have a flashlight there,” he instructed. His voice didn’t hold the playfulness or irritation it usually did. It was softer. It was odd to hear, but not unpleasant.
You followed him slowly down the hall to his room, the path familiar to you but still making you anxious.
“Wait here and I’ll get it,” he instructed and started to pull away. However, the moment he took a step forward, you clutched him again.
“S-sorry,” you said quickly when he was tugged back. Jungkook paused, staring down at you with eyes you couldn’t read.
Taking in a steady breath, he repositioned your hands onto his hoodie.
“It’s okay. Hold on,” he said and moved. You continued to hold onto his clothes while he shuffled around in his closet.
“Aha!”
Suddenly light flooded the room. Jungkook’s gaze drifted from the flashlight to you. With the light, your worrisome expression could be seen clearly. Not to mention, just how close you were to Jungkook.
“You okay?” he asked.
His voice had you moving away quickly, your body heating from embarrassment.
“Just fine,” you answered. “How long do you think the electricity will be out?”
Jungkook shrugged. “It depends I guess. For now, we can use this so our phones can save power.”
“Okay,” you sighed.
“Nice outfit,” Jungkook mumbled, voice teasing like you were used to. It somehow made you feel better.
You glanced down, only now taking in your mismatched attire.
“You try getting dressed in the dark,” you grumbled. He smiled and glanced around.
“You can take the bed. I’ll sleep on the floor,” he said, gesturing.
You wanted to reject his invitation—make some sort of excuse to sleep in your own room; however, you knew you wouldn’t be okay sleeping alone. Before you could make your decision, Jungkook started to pull out an extra pillow and blanket from his closet. He tossed them onto the floor and then set the flashlight on the nightstand, light shining up at the ceiling. It had cast enough light to make you feel safer.
“If you don’t get in that bed, I’m going to keep playing until four,” he threatened light heartily when he saw you standing still.
“You already do that,” you argued but relented to his request.
“And I’ll continue doing that if you don’t-”
“Yeah, yeah,” you dismissed as you climbed into his bed. “I’m in.”
Jungkook’s lips twitched as he tried to suppress a smile. “Good.”
A part of you wanted to offer to share his bed, however, you decided against it since you two weren’t that close. One night on the floor won’t hurt him anyway.
“Goodnight, Yn,” he mumbled from below.
You nestled in his covers, taking in the calming scent of them and letting your eyes close. “Goodnight, Jungkook.”
Tumblr media
Luckily, the electricity was only out for a few hours. It came back on in the middle of the night. You had started to leave Jungkook’s room, but he insisted you stay in case the power went out again. Not liking that possibility, you agreed. It wasn’t that bad being with Jungkook anyway.
Later that week, you came home to a box on your bed. You didn’t order anything lately, so you weren’t sure what it was. However, upon closer inspection, you saw your name on it. Inside was a chipmunk-shaped night light. You’ve seen these in stores and online, usually advertised to children, but that didn’t matter. It was battery-operated, which meant even if the power went out, you could still use the device.
Your lips lifted in a smile while you inspected the cute light. You set it on your nightstand and then returned your attention to the box. You still weren’t sure who had gifted you this. Though, sure enough, you found a card laying at the bottom of the box, face down. Turning it over, it read:
In case I’m not here next time. JK
Your eyes lingered on the hand-written note. Partly in denial that Jungkook, your annoying, disobeying roommate, had gotten you something so considerate. Nevertheless, your view of him was slowly changing—for the better.
You checked your clock and realized Jungkook would be home from his class soon. As a thank you, you started to cook dinner. It wasn’t going to be the most elaborate meal he's had since he was the better chief, but you hoped it would convey the gratitude you had for his thoughtful present.
Maybe living with Jungkook wasn’t that bad after all.

Mismatched, Misunderstood
I don't know if I'll finish this in time before the event ends because my muse is fighting me and motivation is saying no, but I'm posting what I have done so far in case anyone is interested. If I do end up finishing the fic, I'll delete this post.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ugh, definitely not him. Swipe left. Ooh, this guy’s cute. Swipe right. Nope, not another jock. Swipe left. Cute, but doubt he’ll match back. Swipe right. Not a football fan. Swipe left. Hmm, cute blonde dude. Damn, look at those muscles. Must be a bodybuilder of some kind. Swipe right. Swipe left.
Placing your phone down with a sigh, you take a sip of your coffee and relax as the warm, sugar-filled drink fills your mouth. It’d been nearly six months since your break-up with Orion. Dating for you had been rough; as had life in general. Certain textures on your tongue or your hands could lead to feeling nauseous. Too many sounds overlapping each other or loud noises all at once could lead to headaches. Socializing was made difficult by many aspects. Like the fact anything you enjoyed usually stuck around tenfold. Some people would watch a show and then move on when it ended. But for you, some shows or movies stuck with you. They became part of you. It was hard finding other people like that to make friends with, let alone dating.
Orion had felt like the perfect match. He showed interest in your artwork, your favourite media, and even indulged in your plushie hoard. Anytime he saw you eyeing a plushie while the two of you were out and about, he’d nudge you or tease you about it. You’d act like you didn’t know what he was talking about, of course, but later on in the day when the two of you returned home; you would then burst out in glee with your feet tippy-tapping away while you held your latest plush to your chest he just gifted you. The exact same plush you were eyeing in the stores earlier.
Little did you know that the gifts were almost always well-timed; meant to distract you from finding the truth. The truth that you discovered months ago that led to the breakup. It was a simple accident, really, but everything fell apart that day. You and Orion were just doing typical apartment cleaning on the weekend, like always, when he suggested you pull up your music playlist on his phone; which was connected to the apartment living room speakers.
You pulled up YouTube and navigated to your profile, where you had your playlists set up and organized. Today felt like a “✨Hype Up!✨” kind of day, so that was the playlist you went with. Upbeat tunes were always perfect for cleaning. Or rather, dancing while cleaning. And singing. While cleaning… You were just about to press play when the message came through.
Tumblr media
Your heart stopped and you froze. Layla. Layla was messaging Orion again? You felt like you had just been punched in the gut. Layla had been Orion’s ex-fiancee and they hadn’t seen each other in years. Or… so you had thought. Several minutes of silence went by and when Orion finally noticed you hadn’t moved or started the music, that’s when he had come into the living room. You had anxiously asked him if it was a mistake, and that’s when the truth spilled. You were a “terrible lay” and he only tolerated you out of pity. In fact, if it weren’t for him, you probably would’ve killed yourself after Riley’s death, right?
It’s not Orion’s fault that he cheated on you. With his ex-fiance. And a co-worker. And… a married woman. Honestly, you should feel so lucky he chose you. So lucky, in fact, that he started throwing things at you. And yelling at you. At first you were frozen, overwhelmed by emotions and the fact that your relationship that you loved so much was founded on lies. The specifics are a blur, too painful to remember every detail. But at some point during that day, you packed what you could into your car and broke up with Orion. Left him right then and there at the apartment you two previously shared. You ended up staying with a close friend for awhile. It was meant to be temporary, but Sam didn’t have any complaints about hosting you.
Your thoughts about the past were interrupted and you were promptly brought back to the present by the sound of your phone going off. Fly Like An Eagle was playing and you immediately knew it was Sam Wilson. Good ol’ Sam. Thanks to your brother Riley, you had gotten to know Sam. You met Sam through the Department of Veterans Affairs when showing up to volunteer to help war vets with trying to integrate back into society. Sam was a bit of a tough love kind of guy but he was there for you when Riley didn’t come home and he was there for you during your breakup with Orion.
“Hey Sam. What’s up, birdbrain?”
“Ohhh, so it’s like that, is it? Where you at, songbird?”
“Avoiding your dumb face by sipping coffee at The Compass Cafe.”
“Yeah, well this dumb face is missing you down at the centre. Could use your help with today’s luncheon if you’re up for it.”
“Hmm…. Nah, I think I’ll mope here for a few more hours. Maybe they could use my broken heart for a new recipe.”
You were trying to be sarcastic, but Sam could read you well even over the phone. You heard him sigh and let out a soft chuckle.
“I think they’ve got coffee darker than that, doubt they need your broken heart for any of it. How ‘bout you come down here and tell me about this whole Tinder thing you’re trying out? Then we can go out for burgers and watch TV til we pass out?”
A soft smile was brought to your lips at Sam’s offer. Always the good bro, just like Riley. Oh, he’d let you mope, but not for very long. And not without threats of taking you out on his morning jogs.
“Okay, okay fine. I’ll meet you there, but promise me no morning jogs? I’m okay, Sam, I promise. Just feeling a bit skeptical about the Tinder app and dating in general. Riley had it easy because women would just fawn all over him, but his weirdo sister with a plushie pile rarely gets guys to look twice at her.”
“Alright, Eeyore. Just get your butt down here or I’ll find a way to steal a pair of Falcon Wings to come get you myself.”
You laugh at Sam’s response and end the call, promising you’d be at the centre soon. Tossing your trash on the way out the door, you left the café and crossed the parking lot. Once in your car, you started playing your latest playlist - “☀Hope☀”. It was the playlist you listened to in order to boost your mood and keep your head out of the clouds. As the music started to play, you pulled out of your parking spot and headed out of the parking lot to head for the Veteran Supplement Support Center.
Can I ask your top 10 fav fics ever (from any fandom, if you don't mind)?
Also, just curious, is there a story behind your name "dukeofdelirium "?
Oh lord. Fav fanfics? Idk if I could even come up with 10.
I don’t really read fanfic that much these days unfortunately, mostly bc I haven’t rlly had time with my current job. I do write fanfic on my AO3 though (but my updating is random bc I work a lot). You can find me on AO3 at dukeofdelirium
I have multiple ongoing fanfics, including a Death Note/lawlight one that I’m writing the 2nd chapter for when I have free time.
As for my all time fav fanfics? Ummmmmmm
1) Genius Is a Curse by Bloodshot Eyes both on ao3 and fanfiction.net.
This is a DN AU where Light never finds the DN. I will say it’s very heavy on mental illness and things like that, and ppl might find the content triggering so I would read with caution if this is the case for you. It’s a fanfic that I still think about to this day and that I’ve reread maybe 5 times in the last 14 yrs. Something about it rlly stuck with me and I still think about it all the time.
2) The Hinterland Doctrine aka Those Who Stand For Nothing Fall For Anything by Halfpromise both on ao3 and fanfiction.net
We all know where we were when this shit dropped lmfao. This is one of the most iconic death note/lawlight fanfics ever written and just so you’re aware, it’s almost 800,000 words. It has its own tv tropes article and everything 😂 I remember reading this fic in highschool and it had me fucked up in all sorts of ways. I’ve been thinking about rereading it bc I haven’t read it in years but I remember how much I loved it. It’s also an AU where Light is a politician, I’m not telling you anything else 🤫
3) motion picture soundtrack by lowlightt on ao3
this author…. This AUTHOR…. Nahhhhhh their writing makes me actually insane I’m serious. Me and my bestie kept sending their fics back and forth in our group chat and we were literally quoting the fics and going crazy until like 4am for multiple nights in a row 😂 see I’ll do it right now. IT’S VIOLENCE, THIS KISS! god that knocks the wind out of me 🤣
4) Drag You Down by chocomd on ao3
This is a Katara x Aang long fic where they break up and eventually get back together. I rlly love this author and I’ve read most of their works. I recommend all their stuff, especially Midnight Meditations and Without Water which are both one shots I believe? Don’t quote me on that tho
The only other fics coming to my mind are fanfics that my friends have written. Like I said, I don’t rlly read too much fanfic these days and when I do read them, I am very selective and picky about it. For a fic to hold my interest and actually be memorable, they rlly have to scratch a highly niche itch in my brain lol. I’ll link some of my besties fanfics if anyone wants to check them out :)
5) Golden Hour by FuelMyDelusions on ao3
This is a Jacob x Bella longfic and a Breaking Dawn rewrite (thank god cuz we all know it needs that) and I’m WAITING FOR BESTIE TO UPDATE 🙄 jk I can’t talk cuz I know she’s waiting for me to update my shit too 😔🤚🏻
6) Aurora - A New Dawn by poizonivory on ao3
This is another twilight Jacob x Bella longfic that is fixing the hot mess that Breaking Dawn aka Smeyer Hell created. I love this fic so much 👹 you’ll catch me in the comments acting weird
Anyway lol, I can’t think of any other fanfics at the moment. Feel free to shoot me other asks if you want, but yeah I don’t rlly read too many fics these days except for what my friends write and stuff that rlly catches my attention.
And to answer your last question, there isn’t any particular story or meaning behind my username. I’ve just had the username for years and so I use it for practically everything. My URL used to be different over a decade ago when I joined tumblr (I was a 100% death note blog at the time) but then I changed it to dukeofdelirium so I’ve kept this username for many years 😋✌🏻
Quodo recs for the last ~8 months
I got really behind on Quodo works for the last eight months or so. But now that I'm finally caught up, I thought I would post a rec list featuring my favorite fanworks that have been posted since around December 2022 or so. These are just my personal favorites -- feel free to add more.
Fic
see you later (740 words) by kirajockstrap: An episode-centric ficlet about Odo's thoughts when confronted with the fact that Quark might actually die in the Terok Nor flashback episode, 2x08 "Necessary Evil."
Doctor's Orders (1,904 words) by WeaverofWords: After a routine appointment with Quark, Bashir ends up diagnosing a very clueless Odo with an obsession with Quark that he might want to act on. A funny fic I like because of how clueless Odo is. Poor Dr. Bashir!
Gotta Look Good (5,191 words - Mature) by WeaverofWords. Quark ropes Odo into helping him take a good profile pic for a dating website. Odo checks out Quark's profile page and is a bit horrified by Quark's dating strategy and decides something needs to be done about it. Again, another fic I love because of how clueless Odo is (but he still cares about Quark a lot).
Holosuite Malfunction (9,537 words) by cool_ha_ha. There's a holosuite malfunction and Odo and Quark are trapped in a program (you know how it goes). I enjoyed this one because of the cheesy bodice-ripper vibes of the program Odo and Quark get stuck in, the sexual tension between Quark and Odo and a hologram version of Odo, and Quark and Odo struggling to articulate their feelings for each other.
A Mile in Another Man's Bucket (48,810 words) by Superfloxes: Roleswap AU. A bit of a double roleswap going on here: Quark and Odo end up in a universe where Quark is the DS9 security chief and Odo is a no-good bartender/petty criminal. The result is that they end up having to do the other person's job for a few days. Simple right? Well, maybe they'll end up understanding each other a bit better after they do that. Along the way, you also get a few glimpses of what the show might have been like if Odo and Quark were swapped.
what's the problem? I don't know (well, maybe I'm in love) (WIP - 2,797 words - Mature) by Khoshekh42. This one's a WIP but I'm enjoying it a lot so far. Quark and solid!Odo end up having a drunk one-night stand and then end up kind of avoiding each other because they're not sure how to deal with that kind of situation. Gotta love the pining!
Not quite Quodo but I enjoyed them so I'll rec them anyway:
Lost in Translation (Patching the UT) (18,939 words) by sayler_antimony. This is mostly gen worldbuilding about quirks of the languages of various Star Trek races, but there's a bit of an outsider POV look at various pairings, including Odo/Quark (in chapters 3, 5, and 12). But the whole thing is very worth reading for a DS9 fan!
Benefits of Acquaintance (3,481 words - Explicit) by synthehol_king. This is a Garak/Quark PWP, but there are undertones of Garak->Bashir and Quark->Odo pining to it. Fun characterization of Garak and Quark and how they might interact during sex.
Peace Negotiations (10,505 words - Explicit) by StopTalkingAtMe. This is a Quark/Brunt fic but there is just a hint of Quark's attraction to Odo. Basically, Quark and Brunt are holed up in a Risa vacation home after an auction of rare artifacts goes south. They end up playing out some of the other's sexual fantasies. Plotty and fun!
Art
There's been so much awesome Quodo art posted in the last ~8 months or so. Rather than listing all of them, it might just be easier to check the last 5 pages of my quodo art tag over on my Tumblr, as I tried to round up a lot there.
Hi there! I love your content!!! I just started writing my first fan fic cause you inspired me so much and need a bit of help if you wouldn’t mind? I’ve posted chapter one but am not sure how to make a “master list” where it holds all the chapters? Can I just keep posting and it will automatically put the next chapter in order after the last one I posted? I always thought my panic attacks of just having people see my fan fics would be the worst part, but navigating this app seems to actually take up most of my hyperventilating. Any help you could spare would be greatly appreciated!
Hello Bestie!
OMG I'm so excited that you're writing!!!!! That's AMAZING! I hope you have the best time telling your story and sharing it with everyone and I'm definitely going to go check it out if that's OK ❤️
As far as a master list goes, this is how I made mine. I should preface this by saying, I am really really REALLY bad at Tumblr and did this by fumbling around like a half blind fawn so there could very well be a better way to do it. If there is and people are reading this post, please comment or reblog or reach out directly to this lovely human and help them out so they're not stuck with my probably awful advice.
SO! Start with a basic text post and just put Master List in the title field (or whatever you want to call yours!) Then go in and put down whatever info you want to include for your fic (like a summary and whatnot) and put in a chapter title (or, for your main master list, the title of the fic) as part of the list in the body of the post. Once the title is in, you're going to want to link to the chapter or fic. To do that, highlight the text you want to link from and go to the lil link option that will populate when you highlight the text. It's the second icon from the right on the screenshot below.
Tumblr media
Click that icon and then paste the URL of the chapter you want to link to.
Once you have your chapters listed, just press post! You can pin it to the top of your profile with the three dot menu on the upper right of the post (see screenshot below) once it's posted or build it into the links in your description of your blog if you change the layout of your blog and are comfortable playing with a smidge of HTML.
To add more chapters or fics later, go to the three dot menu on the upper right of your post and press edit (see screenshot below). Then you just repeat the process above and scroll to the bottom of the post and press save when you're done. The post will then update.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way for it to be automatic! I wish there were, it would be so convenient.
But that's it! If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a DM or another ask, I'm happy to help out! I may not be the best person to ask but I will definitely try my best. And if anyone has a better way to do this, please share! I love this hell site but it is, indeed, a hell site.
Thank you so much for reading! Good luck on your writing journey! Love you!!!
For the ask game: monarchshipping 👀👀
So Monarchshipping...
This is a ship I have conflicting feelings towards because for me, this ship only works in a very specific way. (And in some fics I read they're written as brothers or opposing forces and that kind of messes with my perception of the ship from time to time lol.)
To avoid this answer getting unnecessarily complicated and long, yes.
I SHIP IT
1. What made you ship it?
In the olden days of early 201x I used to have a profile on the hell site known as AFF because every time I exhausted a shipping tag on FF.net or AO3 that's where I would go to read more about the said ship. Funnily enough, I was reading a mobiumshipping fic when the monarch boys took a hold of me. Usually, mobiumshipping fics at that time were extremely Yugi-centred mostly spending time exploring his relationships with Yami and Atem. Yami's and Atem's relationship in those fics were almost always strictly one of them hurting Yugi's feelings and the other one getting mad and berating them about it. So when I started reading this fic where their relationship specifically was the focus for the majority of the fic and in it they were actually depicted as different people with thoughts that weren't solely about Yugi, with their own feelings and flaws, I was immediately hooked. I've never seen them written in a way around Yugi when they weren't just yesmen clones of each other because that just wasn't a popular concept for mobium shippers (for some reason) and for me that was a very welcome change. So that fic kickstarted a week-long monarchshipping bender for me but after that it kind of faded into the back of my mind for a while. That is until I started seeing your fanart of them floating around tumblr! Now they're back living rent-free in my brain XD
2. What are your favourite things about the ship?
Hmm... The thing I like the most about this ship is how they mirror each other, but also differ in a lot of ways at the same time. As I mentioned earlier, I can't enjoy monarchshipping unless it's written in a very specific way. With these boys, everything is a struggle, but it's worth reading about because that's what makes them interesting. If the fight for completion and happiness is ultimately taken out of them because everything is perfect, they don't fight, they don't have any differences, they don't have opinions, there is no risk whatsoever, they are literally the same person written twice into a relationship, the ship completely loses its charm for me. (That's why I can't enjoy most old mobiumshipping fics at this point.) What I enjoy in this ship the most is their journey and their development. I also love seeing how different authors interpret and depict their characterisation! To me, it's so cool that in one fic Atem can be a borderline psychopathic and pyromaniac leader figure and Yami a serious guy who doesn't have time for his bs and in another Atem is a burdened but dedicated guy with too many responsibilities on his hands and Yami is the crazy untamable rebel that pulls him out of his stressful routine and it still works.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Not exactly an unpopular opinion, more like a headcanon a fic infected me with... There was this one Atem returns fic I read a few years ago where Atem and Yami return together. Everyone is very confused as to why there are two of them and who the actual spirit of the puzzle was. Cue existential crisis, weird rivalry among them, trying to come to terms with life and whatnot and yada yada. But as the fic goes on it's slowly revealed that Yami was Horus possessing Atem all along. Yami/Horus and Atem obviously have very conflicted feelings about the revelations but they manage to work through them somehow. So long story short, this fic kind of planted this silly little headcanon seed in my head that what if Yami was Horus? And now it's stuck there... (Also if anyone knows this fic, please send it my way because I forgot to save it like the genius I am and I couldn't find it ever since.... makes you wonder if it was all just a crazy fever dream when you can't find an awesome fic you really liked...)
Anyway! The ship ask thing is still on if anyone wants to ask some!
