❝ it does, doesn't it? ❞ he agrees with a swell of pride. ❝ wait, let me get this straight: you're telling me you've never snowboarded before? what, like ever? in life? shit, i got a lot to show you, then. up there on the mountain? snow for ... forever. you'll get sick of the stuff by the time we're done. heh, trust me. wait, so does that mean you've never had a snowball fight? oh ... we're definitely gonna change that, jov. ❞
sure, it does make it easier to cut corners and just take her up there himself. the old beater is working fine this year, his dad's made sure of it, and so it can certainly handle a trek back up the mountain to the cable car station. from there? pretty smooth sailing.
might have to get a few things fixed up while we're there, but ... eh, she seems adventurous enough. having to turn a boiler on won't bother her much.
he offers a half-smile, moving to put his arm around her shoulder as he makes her 'picture it'.
❝ i mean, i gotta few family pics i could show you, sure, but i mean ... seeing is believing, right? and i'm more than happy to show you. ❞ he takes out his mobile, thumbing through his calendar app. a few exams coming up, but nothing he can't work around. ❝ you said you have the whole month ... so, how about this coming weekend? or next? i can make either work. end of the month is kinda booked for me ... but for you? i could be convinced to make it work. just lemme know. i'll pick you up, we'll make a whole weekend out of it. or ... week? easy to lose time up there ... heh. ❞

"The whole mountain, eh?" Glossy lips curve into an amused grin before parting around the straw, taking a small sip from her beverage whilst attentively listening to him. What a display of the man before her . . . It was beyond endearing. "Mount Washington has such a better ring to it, anyways." And thus, she'll probably have forgotten about the other actual name by tomorrow.
There had been some bits & pieces of information trickling down to her regarding this place . . . Gossip, whispered words and people who discussed this land whilst she sat across them within some bar which name had slipped her. Alas, nothing quite of substance was ever delivered, keeping her curiosity on edge. But perhaps, whilst sitting across Josh, chin resting atop the back of her hand & keeping keen emeralds upon him — Maybe it would finally be sated.
Boasting, wasn't he? It would lure out a few stray chuckles from her throat, making her shoulders shake with each intake of air. "Cute." A pause, acrylics tapping against her cheek in pensive manner. "I've never been snowboardin', to be honest. There was never enough snow for it . . . But! I'd love to see you board down one of those slopes. I'd be really impressed." Humoring his bragging, though, with genuine tone of voice — After all, it was all spoken in pure honesty. Tilting her head, fingers folded as she took a moment to let his words really sink in. "Let's do it together, yeah? I think it would make things less complicated . . . You know, not havin' to discuss everything we do with a whole group. And I'd love to go sightseeing there — Haven't been travellin' a whole lot." A pause. "Tell me more about this lodge or . . . show me? I'm free this whole month, so you can take me there whenever you want."

Can you do some more until dawn characters (yandere please) like you’re trying on clothes at the mall and ask their opinion?
YANDERE UNTIL DAWN CHARACTERS + READER IS TRYING ON CLOTHES
A/N: thank you for reading my until dawn content! it's such a small fandom these days, comments/reblogs/anon reviews/asks are appreciated as they let me know people are still reading these.
- Josh has an excellent eye for aesthetics. He may not know all the words/names for the types of clothes you look good in but he recognizes them right away. He’ll try and describe something you should get, give up, wander off, then come back with examples of what he meant while you’re in the dressing room. If the shopping trip is under four hours he can remain locked in the entire time. This is the strength of will and character that comes with being the big brother to two little sisters who got his driving license first. He’s spent entire lifetimes at the mall hyping up the twins. He knows what to do. Overall helpfulness: 8/10.
- Sam loves spending quality time with you. Quality time is one of her preferred love languages, in fact. She picks you up for your shopping day with your favorite coffee shop order in hand, from the best place in town. She’s good with little details like that. You can always count on her to give you her honest opinion on what you pick out. She’s gentle about it, but she’ll never let you wear something she thinks is unflattering. She’s also mindful of waste consumption. With Sam’s help you wind up picking things you love, are comfortable wearing, and that you’ll actually use. Not a penny wasted, no matter how much you spend. Overall helpfulness: 10/10.
- Chris could not possibly, in any version of reality, fix his mouth to give you a criticism about any of your choices. Let alone choices about how you will go about decorating your body. He’s lucky he gets to look at you. It’s an honor! Thank you for honoring him! Every time you step out of the dressing room you will get the exact same answer, very enthusiastically, in the same tone: “That looks GREAT, babe!” You’ll be ready to kill him thirty minutes in. Absolutely worthless feedback. You’ll have to get help from the salespeople who work there for opinions. If you want a ‘yes man’ this is your guy! Overall helpfulness: 3/10.
Hannah is another sap. She’s more helpful than Chris, but only by the slightest margin. If something doesn’t look good she’ll be able to stutter her way around to it…. eventually. She’s nearly petrified at the thought of upsetting you. Never-mind the fact that you’ve asked her how the top looks on you five times now. “Well…. I mean… how do YOU think it looks, Y/N?” As if you’d be asking if you could come up with an opinion yourself. You’ll wind up leaving with only a few items. You’ll have to come back with a friend in a few days. You may need a new wardrobe, but if you need help picking it out, you’ll need a different set of eyes. Overall helpfulness: 4/10.
- Emily is going to be honest to the point that, yes, it will hurt your feelings a little… if you’re lucky. Mileage may vary. If you’re particularly sensitive she’ll hurt your feelings a lot. But god forbid you start trying to take someone nicer shopping with you. She’ll throw the hissy fit of the century when she finds out. Yes, when, and not if. Emily manages to find out everything you try to keep from her. Everything. On one hand you’ll wind up looking the best you’ve ever looked. Your entire wardrobe suits you perfectly. She even buys/picks out things that you’ll like, in your style, even if she finds the style personally distasteful. That’s how much she loves you. It just has to suit you, or else she will say something, and the way she says it is never very nice. You’ll look incredible, but at what cost to your mental health? Overall helpfulness: 8/10.
- Mike isn't very enthusiastic about the activity, but likes the good boyfriend points it garners him. Thus, he will come along whenever you bid him to do so. He’s only got about two and a half hours of shopping in him though, so try and have an idea of what you want to get in your mind. Before you arrive at the stores, please. If you take a long lunch break he can go back for another two hours but this is his hard limit. Knows well enough what you already look good in. Or when something looks downright awful on you. He does struggle a little to help if you’re wanting to try a completely new style. He’s as lost as you. The more underground/alternative/particular the style you want to try is, the worse the advice gets. If you’re just doing a wardrobe refresher this is your man. Overall helpfulness: 6/10.
- Beth makes shopping relaxing. You’ll stay as long as you need in order to get everything you need. She probably had you make a Pinterest board before you guys went out so that you’d be able to refer back to it. She knows getting into the stores can wipe your mind clean of what you needed/wanted to get. She’ll have you guys stop for lunch as well, but then you’re right back at it! She likes seeing your style evolve and change. Her feedback is honest, but gentle. It won’t ever feel like a criticism of your body, just the clothing. You walk out satisfied and always happier than when you came in together. Overall helpfulness: 10/10.
- Jessica is in her element here. Honestly, Jessica drags you shopping with her more than you’ll ever drag her shopping. Spending time together means a lot to Jessica. She never takes it for granted. Thus, she always tries to make any activity, but especially repeat ones like shopping, fun. She probably has a shopping playlist she made for the two of you. You both wear one wireless earbud and get to movie montage with each other. Watch out if the Princess Diaries songs or something Hip-hop comes on, she’ll start dancing to make you laugh. Her feedback is upbeat and positive, but honest. She hypes you up like crazy when you come out wearing something that makes you look really hot! Wolf whistles and everything, your face will be burning up as you flee back into the safety of the dressing room. “Baby, come back! You look smoking!” Overall helpfulness: 9/10.
- Matt knows absolutely nothing about fashion. He tries his very best to help, but he’s at a loss. Only if something very obviously doesn’t suit you will he be able to veto it for you. “I dunno… maybe it’s a little awkward in the arms or…. something?” You’ll have to take a few breaths. However, if something looks good, he can absolutely be a hype man! His eyes light up, he takes your hand, makes you do a spin. All the attention is enough to make you kick your feet and giggle. He can compliment you all day long. To his credit, he can compliment you specifically enough on what looks good. Even if it’s still a little vague. “The color of this makes you look really… wow! You know?” You’ll be able to figure out he means jewel tones make your skin look glowy one of these days. For now, at least you know your boyfriend thinks you’re gorgeous no matter what you wear. Overall helpfulness: 5/10.

may I ask if any of the demons have specific romantic preferences? I imagine most of them don't/don't care for parings at all but I'm actually very curious. I'm assuming parings like banbalena and banban were only because the summoners wanted to pair them, but It would be interesting to see if any of the demons actually have thought about and considered being in an actual relationship with another demon (or maybe even a human??? Not sure how that would go over, but it doesnt seem like all of them want to rip you into tiny bits so maybe?)
In world lore general? Oh, yes! Sapient Demons and Angels are fully capable of falling in love and forming relationships, among their own kind or others, along with some that just prefer to indulge their needs in casual flings.
Just in general long term relationships with Earthbornes is... kinda a dicey subject, since there's a 99.99% chance said Demon or Angel is gonna outlive that Earthborne... but hey, if one wants put up with a Long Distance Relationship on steroids that can only end in tragedy, there's no law saying they CAN'T, so long as they're still doing their job.
Now, in specifics...
-Characters I'm not touching on this subject with a 50 foot poll-
Jumbo Josh- Is a child. (What? You thought an ADULT Behemoth would fit inside a school building? OH, SWEET SUMMER CHILD)
The Naughty Ones- Are also children.
Castor (The name I'm going with unless they give the Opila chick a name in 4)- While their True Form is an adult, by contract, right now, they are reverted to both being physically and mentally a child, so I'm not gonna be opening that can of worms.
Tamataki & Chamataki- Not a sapient species.
ANYWHO! Besides those:
The Jester is bound to Queen Bouncelia. It is...absolutely NOT a healthy relationship...
Tarta and Opila by chance do happen to know each other from before getting summoned up. Their relationship is... complicated? Best way to describe it is "rival married".
Z̵̮̋ò̷̻l̶̬̿p̴͖̈h̴͉̾ï̷̩u̷͕͂s̸̙̅ ̶̞͐h̶̘̕a̷̽ͅs̵̘͊ ̵̙͋a̶̘͌ ̷̨̈́w̷͓͌i̸̠͐f̸̻͝e̷̹͐.̸̣̒
And indeed, Banban and Banbaleena are only "Together" in the in-universe made up mascot lore of the school, in reality she H A T E S him, and he's TERRIFIED of her.
On his own, though, Banban's been in a few relationships with humans in his lifetime as a Baphomet. Just a handful, though. That whole inevitable outcome of "You're gonna outlive them by a LONG SHOT" thing... hits him pretty hard when it does happen...
Banbaleena has no interest in romance outside of using it for manipulation to get what she wants, which absolutely is not limited to just other demons. The bonus of toying with Earthborne sinners is that they sometimes get so desperate with their short lives, that they'll literally sign a contract allowing her to crush their spirits and kill them at the end of it, after all~
Nabnab's fully Aro/Ace. His love is delicious delicious food~ (AKA bones of beings that are still alive)
Nabnaleena's solely interested in other demons in terms of relationships... and that usually doesn't last very long, since... she also very much loves food... and will happily see said relationship partner as 'food' before 'partner'.
The Fiddles are all a small part of a polycule that 99.98% of all Nightmares alive are in. Only Lucifer knows HOW that even managed to happen/keep happening, but no one questions it. Sometimes sleeping humans and other beings get pulled along with the ride for a bit. They're all very chill and free flowing about things, like the very flow of dreams themselves.
Flynn's open to relationships, Demon, Angel, and Human alike! ...Just the bar he has is set SO HIGH, the amount he's ever had happen are few and far between... And the few humans that have managed to catch interest ended up doing something stupid dangerous out at sea and dying as a result...
Seline's also open to relationships, just hasn't found the right one yet. Unfortunately, after all this, her considering humans with that is... unlikely, to say the least...

I’m bored so I’m making a list of 2010-2020 things I think the characters of moonlight would like
Part 1 of idk probably gonna do most of the characters (maybe some of the bad guys), this is just meant to be silly.
Beth:
Any recent documentary that talks about Hollywood’s dark side and sheds light on their awful history. (I think she’d be fascinated and appalled but ultimately happy there is news about this)
Instagram (i think she’d rarely post anything but I think she’d like all the pictures people post of different cultures and places and nature and what not)
Just dance (idk what video-golf is and my google search left me confused (it was just regular golfers and whatnot on a regular field) but she liked that so I think she’d like just dance)
TikTok (I think she’d be very stubborn and try to avoid it but if co-workers keep talking about it she might cave and find herself and true crime tok )
The good place (I think it’d be her little comfort show)
True detective
Downtown Abby
Mick:
Outlander (dork that he is I think he’d like it and kind of relate to both Claire and Jamie for different reasons but I think he’d get embarrassed by the sex scenes)
Red dead redemption games
Call of duty games
911 and 911 lone star (he’d act like he’d hate it because it can be overly dramatic (I love it though) but he’d secretly tune in for every episode)
The Rookie (same as above)
History related shows (I.e AMC’s Turn or the Terror)
Drones
Josef:
True Blood (I think he’d be interested in the concept of that universe)
Game of Thrones and house of the dragon (Sex, nudity, and violence all things he loves lol)
Onlyfans (despite being annoyed with online services for escorts I think he may actually enjoy this one but more so for curiosity sake and not to find partners)
Reality shows (I.e Kardashians or Real Housewives)
King’s men movies
Reign (would never admit it though and would come across it purely accidentally)
Succession
American Horror Story
Logan:
Star Wars: Clone Wars movie and series (it came out 2008 but I think just after moonlight ended)
Rouge One
Bad batch
Bobs burgers (I know this is a random one but I feel like this would be up his alley. Idk why)
What We Do In The Shadows (I think it fits with his humor and he’d be poking fun at it)
Red dead redemption games
Call of duty games
Josh:
Dune 1 & 2
Just Dance or just Wii games in general
The Rookie (I think he’d love Wesley’s character)
Stranger Things
Umbrella Academy
Detective Carl:
911 and 911 lone star (he’d act like he’d hate it because it’s wildly inaccurate but he’d secretly tune in for every episode)
The Rookie (same as above)
Social distancing
Contactless payment and delivery
The walking dead (but only until Negan shows up then he stops watching)
That’s all I got right now. This was just a dumb silly thing to pass the time while I wait for calls.
Until next time. Good night sleep tight

idek if new ppl in the fandom are looking at my stuff, or if returning fans are seeing it either, but i wanna get something off my chest ,!??! in regards to how i draw josh and whatnot
i don't draw josh in feminine outfits with the thought "yas he'd totally wear this" i don't. like rly i don't. and if anyone thinks that, trust me i know. i do know he wouldn't wear it. but it's genuinely like a fun thing. i'm not rly considering his personality when i do it. i like this character, i like this outfit, put it together and boom
i'm starting to think the outfits were never the issue tho. sometimes i'm even second guessing very Simple outfits i draw him in before i post stuff. i'm like "this won't have anyone looking at me sideways right. he's just in a black shirt and jeans." and i'm so overly cautious about it, and have been for years actually. for as long as i've made content about this game, especially art, i didn't post it. i have a loooot of josh drawings that i haven't posted, most of them in physical sketchbooks. only reason i didn't post them was bc i somehow had a spidey sense abt being judged for the looks i drew for him
i mean, when i was in a public smg discord, they said my art of josh was "risqué", when it was just a tank top and shorts. if i'd drawn a cis character in that, there wouldn't have been an issue. and i draw josh as trans, and i have made a million posts and documents about this hc of mine, i'm not gonna bore anyone with the details of it. but yes, he does still have boobs. yeah, he's a trans man to me and yet, i can still draw him in feminine outfits
mostly bc i'm a feminine trans guy. honestly i'm not even strictly feminine, i lean more toward androgynous but occasionally i'll dress up, doll myself up and stuff. i'm not against appearing masculine either, and when i'm in public, i prefer to be masculine. but like, my exprsssion isn't limited to that. trans men don't have to be Strictly masculine or else they're not trans or men. like. if cis men can paint their nails and be praised for 'not caring about toxic masculinity' where is that energy for trans men. for real.
and yea this ties in w my art bc i project a shit ton. but in reality when i'm making like in universe fanart, i'll draw josh in fitting clothes. like no he's not gonna wear whatever Heavily Stylized outfit i drew him in that took under 2 minutes. i'll actually put emotion and feelings into something for the "real josh" or whatever the fuck.
i talk about this sometimes and maybe some ppl even saw it, but whenever that person was in my inbox saying "how did you make the heterosexual guy feminine" (that's basically what the question was) i was so confused bc... what does sexuality have to do w that anyways??? i mean the answer is as simple as "i'm projecting and having fun" but being straight as a man doesn't stop you from dressing feminine, there's a lot of guys like that
and i'm at a certain point where i'm starting to think it's bc i draw josh trans. like bruh. if i was to draw mike in his white tank top and posted that in that discord, it wouldn't be seen as risqué. but i draw josh in the same thing, who just so happens to have boobs, all the sudden it's risqué
like seriously what is up with that. and yeah i know right away you wouldn't think that it's him in any of the feminine outfits i draw him in, but again, that's me having fun. i don't really wnana keep drawing him in his flannel??? like can we do other things
for "real josh", yeah he's not gonna wear any of that. i know that. any time i've written for josh (usually an in universe, canon thing), he's not wearing anything too flashy. which is normally how i see him anyway. instead of like this overly stylized and accessorized outfit, i would actually see him wearing a simple tee and jeans. i just wanna have fun so i find outfits i like and draw him in them
idek why i'm saying all of this. it's just been on my chest for a while and i feel like i haven't been able to properly enjoy being apart of the fandom bc it just feels like everyone's constantly judging me. i don't even like tagging my josh stuff w the game's tag bc i'm scared of everyone in there lmfao
my friend rose can attest to this, i was nervous about posting my art anywhere bc i was convinced someone was gonna say something abt me drawing josh with boobs or something. and i was so nervous abt that i was like. Plz. Just don't ask about it. it's not a big deal to me so why is it for anyone else. like he's got boobs and what. what about it.
i'm tired and my mouth is dry so i'm just gonna shut up

will you make a wuthering heights edit? asking for a friend!
also, who would you cast if you could make a new wuthering heights movie adaptation? 😻
Hello! I’ve started collecting clips I’ll see what I can do ;)
And this was SUCH a fun exercise so thank you!! First of all, I’d probably have it be a miniseries bc I don’t think you can do justice to the story in ~3 hours. And also would maybe split the generations up into 2 seasons? I would 1000% include the second gen I really don’t think you can get the full depth of Catherine’s Haunting without it. Don’t take any of these choices TOO seriously in reality I think unknowns would make for the most immersive story :*
Tumblr media
OKAY FIRST UP: Heathcliff. Dev Patel would be my first choice bc I think he can play both boyish and solemn and he fits the book description pretty well. He’s done period pieces before and I also just love him :) The 2011 casting was already really good so I’d totally be down for James Howson Heathcliff 2. And if we wanted to stress the OMG These Are Literal Kids Getting Married & Dying aspect, I could see Amir Wilson for young Heathcliff (obviously older Heathcliff would have to be cast accordingly).
Tumblr media
Loved Kaya Scodelario for Catherine (Sr.), I think you’d have to cast someone with very intense/memorable eyes and a bit of wickedness to her and she’s GOT IT. I could also see an Anya Taylor-Joy type if we wanted to go w the 1992 one-actress-for-both-Cathys route, she’s played cold and haughty and mischievous and innocent and she’s fairly close to how I pictured Cathy (Jr.). If we go age-accurate, we already know Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson play really well off each other and no one plays Scary Youth better than her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really love Mackenzie Foy for Cathy Linton, I think she could pass as Kaya Scodelario’s daughter and admittedly this was a little inspired by the (misguided) Twilight parallels.
Tumblr media
The Lintons! I completely blanked on blondish male actors that aren’t completely jacked so apologies for that ( @julesblackthorns and I had fun imagining like. Tom Hopper Linton, fully muscled up for Umbrella Academy.) Timothe Chalamet as Linton Heathcliff started as a joke but like. Let’s be honest, he was born for the role. Kathryn Newton played Amy in the Little Women miniseries and I think she could capture Isabella Linton’s hopeless romanticism. And Edgar was SUCH a difficult choice for me, I have him down as Aaron Taylor-Johnson currently but I think Aaron might be a better fit for Lockwood. I’d want someone more bookish I think. Not sure why I didn’t once consider Joe Alwyn but honestly I could kind of see Joe Alwyn.
COULD NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME cast Hareton. Which is a shame because he’s my favorite character :(
And then some miscellaneous/not-so-serious castings: Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Earnshaw because he’s already played Hareton Earnshaw and that was. A choice. Or Andrew “Hot Priest” Scott as Mr. Earnshaw bc if it’s a British production he Will Be There. I threw Noah Centineo Hareton out there and was told my “mind [was] so twisted.” And Josh O’Connor as Lockwood because hearing him fight w ghost Catherine would be really funny.

my headcanon for why sho's personality is Like That is because he could see the UG while he was alive like josh could but instead of getting depressed about it he just has fun with it. Like if you know that the world is so much bigger than meets the eye and have grown awareness of multiple planes of reality then you'd stop caring about being polite or comprehensible or fitting in with society because all those things seem pointless and trivial in the grand scheme of things. the world is his oyster. he's absolutely obsessed with hunting down the composer but i think sho's just genuinely in it to have fun. hunting god for sport but quite literally. he found out thats a thing he can do so he just goes ahead and does it because why the hell not
I mean, that's as valid as any other take, given how the pasts of these characters are largely blank slates. But also, it definitely wouldn't be out of character and I could totally see Sho doing that! I think it'd be cool if unlike a natural ability to see the UG, Sho just developed a sixth sense, like what some folk like Ryoji seem to have, but he formed that sense through his prodigious love of art and numbers and ended up pursuing that sixth sense into the UG. He was so smart that he just found the next plane of existence.

The CW Rogues: My Biggest Gripe With the 2014 Flash Show
In many ways, the CW Flash show is what got me into comics. While I had watched (and loved) Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and read loads of DC guidebooks as a kid, it wasn’t until I saw a clip from the 2014 CW Flash show that I really got invested in the DC Universe. While I had already started watching B:TAS (and loving it), Batman wasn’t what got me into comics. No, that was the Flash...or rather, it was Captain Cold. While watching a clip from the Justice League episode Flash and Substance on YouTube, I saw a link to a clip from “Family of Rogues” (from Season 2 of CW’s Flash). Intrigued by the premise, I found the show on Netflix, watched the entire episode, and was hooked. Not only was the Flash just as nice as he had been on Justice League, but two of his Rogues were siblings, and they actually cared about one another. I wanted to know more, so I looked Captain Cold and the Golden Glider up. My research into Cold and Glider led me to the other Rogues, and soon I became a Flash fan. I watched the show, I re-watched “Flash and Substance”, I read articles about the characters from the comics...and eventually, I started reading the comics themselves. I loved the characters and the lore, and I enjoyed the generally lighthearted tone of the books even into the modern era. Unfortunately, as I learned more about the comics, I grew less and less interested in the 2014 TV show. It made too many alterations to character I liked in the comics...and eventually, I basically stopped watching the show out of frustration. Ironically enough, by getting me into comics, the show alienated me from itself....and a big reason for that was the way it handled the Rogues. Here’s a rundown of the CW Rogues, and why I was frustrated with most of them.
1. Captain Cold. I actually enjoy Captain Cold on the CW show; he’s recognizable as Len Snart and his sarcasm game is on point. (It doesn’t hurt that Wentworth Miller is really attractive, either). His relationships with Lisa, Mick, and Barry are fantastic, and it’s a relief to have him be treated as a competent threat. That being said...he’s a bit too suave for Captain Cold, isn’t he? Silver Age Cold thought he was suave, but he wasn’t; and modern Captain Cold is middle-aged, grouchy, and very rough around the edges. His smooth, suave nature reminds me more of classic Sam (the original Mirror Master) than Captain Cold.
2. Heat Wave. Dominic Purcell did a great job with the role he was given, and physically he’s an excellent match for Mick. That being said, CW Mick is very different from the Mick in the classic comics, who was a bit dim-witted and rather gentle and sweet for a supervillain. CW Mick, by contrast, is, as I think @gorogues put it, “Hothead McAngryman”, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t seem to have bled back into the comics themselves. Villains with fire powers being hotheads is a bit overdone, so I’m not thrilled to see comic Mick being put into that role.
3. Golden Glider. Hands down, Lisa is my favorite of the CW Rogues. Despite the fact that her costume and power set are completely different than they were in the comics, they managed to get her personality down pretty well; making her just as dangerous and competent as the boys. Flirtatious, crafty, devious, and yet still at least somewhat sympathetic, the CW version of Lisa Snart takes home the gold for the best adaptation of a Rogue. If only they hadn’t completely forgotten that she existed.
4. Pied Piper. Note that I have not seen his Season 6 appearance, so I’m just judging this based on his appearances in Seasons 1 and 2. Piper is disappointing; in his first appearance he wasn’t as fun as Silver/Bronze Age Piper or as sympathetic as modern Piper, and I’m not crazy about the idea of him being motivated primarily by revenge on Wells/Thawne, since that wasn’t his motivation in the comics at all. I also don’t remember him being able to puppet or hypnotize people with his music, which is too bad, since that’s his main schtick in the comics. What’s more, if you want to reform a character, don’t do it offscreen via reality warping and then forget about him for four seasons. It sounds like his Season 6 appearance was better, but I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment on it. Also, “the Pied Piper” is kind of a nonindicative name if he doesn’t play a pipe/flute.
5. Trickster II (Axel Walker). Axel was actually decent in the CW show. I still like comic Axel better, but they got the gist of his character down and even made him a bit sympathetic. In fact, he’s probably in the top three best Rogue adaptations that the CW did.
6. Trickster I (James Jesse). I love watching Mark Hamill play CW’s Trickster...but man, he is not playing Giovanni Giuseppi on the CW show. He’s playing the Joker with a different name. It’s especially weird since we know from JLU and that one short where Mark Hamill plays himself, the Joker, the Trickster, and Swamp Thing that Hamill can do a non-Joker Trickster and do it well, so my suspicion is that it was just because Trickster was also the Joker in the 1990s Flash show (where he was also played by Mark Hamill). Regardless, murdering random people and threatening to blow up small children during Christmas is not something the Trickster should be doing.
Although this does prove Mark Hamill could do a live-action Joker. I’d pay money to see that. Mark Hamill is a great Joker.
7. Weather Wizard. CW Weather Wizard isn’t egregiously bad. He’s not out-of-character like Trickster, and he’s not boring to watch, but at the same time it feels like there’s something missing. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t quote Twain. Maybe it’s because there’s not the sense that he was a loser before he got his powers. Maybe it’s because they changed his origin completely (and also made him older than Clyde for some reason). It could even be because he’s not wearing a green leotard with a huge collar, puffy sleeves, and ridiculous elf boots. Whatever it is, though, he’s just missing that spark that makes me like comic book Wizard so much.
8. Mirror Master I (Sam Scudder). I don’t know how you make Sam Scudder more boring than New 52/Rebirth did, but somehow the CW version of the character pulled it off. Granted, Cold had already stolen some of Sam’s characterization, so that didn’t help, but they could’ve leaned into his skills as an inventor or his love of showmanship or something. Instead, we got a generic thug with what was basically Evan McCulloch’s power set. Boo! Boo I say!
9. Top (Roscoe/Rosa Dillon). The Brave and the Bold Top is more interesting than the CW version, and he doesn’t even have spoken lines! That’s how boring this Top is. Also, the gender swap was pretty pointless. I wouldn’t have minded a female Top if she’d been intelligent and creepy and snobbish in the way that Roscoe is, but why even bother changing the gender if the character is going to have such a minor role? They also substantially depowered the CW Top, since Rosa can’t spin at super speed and isn’t telekinetic. A massive missed opportunity.
10. Mirror Master II (Evan/Eva McCulloch). I can’t comment on how good of a character Eva is, since I haven’t watched any of the episodes with her in them, but I will say I am disappointed that the character does not seem to be Scottish, does not have Evan’s weird sense of humor, and lacks his tooth gap.
11. Captain Boomerang (George “Digger” Harkness). Not only did he not actually appear on the Flash, but he was also boring and didn’t even seem to have an Australian accent. I was very disappointed with his role in the CW.
And now for characters who aren’t Rogues:
-CW Eobard is really good. I have no real complaints about him.
-CW Grodd is also really good, though I do wish he was from Gorilla City as per the comics rather than a lab experiment.
-CW Magenta got most of the important character beats down but felt a bit out of place with Barry as the Flash.
-CW Shade was possibly even more boring than CW Sam, which is saying something.
-CW Zoom didn’t really feel like Zoom at all. Not only was it weird to see him fighting Barry and not Wally, but he was just a generic serial killer and didn’t have Zolomon’s unique outlook on the world. The loss of his time manipulation powers was likewise disappointing.
-CW Jay is really good. I love him.
-CW Jesse Quick has very little in common with her comic book counterpart; I like the comic version better but don’t actually mind the CW version all that much.
-CW Wally is decent enough, though I don’t see why they couldn’t have kept him as Iris’ nephew rather than making him her brother. Also, they didn’t use him nearly as much as they should have.
-CW Barry I generally like a lot; Grant Gustin is a good fit for the character. That being said, I do wish they hadn’t given him the dead mom origin, which was a retcon I am not fond of.
-CW Iris is quite good (in the first three seasons, at least); she’s intelligent, loyal to Barry, dedicated to her job, and quite independent. The fact that she and Barry were foster siblings in the CW universe is kind of weird, though, since it makes their romance kind of awkward.
-Joe West is not Ira West (Iris’s father in the comics), but I actually don’t care. Joe West is made of awesome. (I like Ira too, but I like Joe enough that I don’t mind having him replace Ira.)
-The Fiddler on the CW had very little to do with the comic Fiddler.
-I’ve never been particularly invested in the Thinker (comic or show), but I will say that the CW’s version of the character was very different from his comics counterpart.
-CW Ragdoll was just as creepy and unsettling as comic book Ragdoll, though he had a very different backstory.
-I never expected Baby Josh to make it into the CW, let alone as a gender-swapped teenager named Joss who wanted to kill Weather Wizard. It felt like they never knew where to go with her character, though, so it was a wasted opportunity. At least she didn’t die like poor Baby Josh, though.
-Big Sir in the CW show is a MASSIVE improvement over the comic version. This is probably the only character I will say this about. Though I will say that I kind of wish he’d gotten his stupidly ugly comic book costume even though it would’ve made no sense.
-Peek-a-Boo is a pretty solid adaptation of her comic book counterpart.
-Rainbow Raider (Prism) is much better in the comics than on the CW show, where he only existed to be a boring plot device.
-Linda Park dating Barry was weird, but they actually did a good job with her character before she vanished.
This is not intended as a criticism of anyone who likes the show or its characters; it’s just me musing about my personal problems with it.

Chapter 4:
Sam really didn’t want to eavesdrop, but it was a hectic day for everyone but here. It was an accident, really. She just wanted a glass of water, but when she heard Deena and Kate arguing in the kitchen, she stopped before reaching the doorway, and couldn’t help but listen.
“Are you seriously not going?” Deena was saying.
“No, Deena,” Kate replied, in a tone that made it obvious it wasn’t the first time she said so. “I’ll only go to a funeral when I’m dead, thank you very much.”
“Maybe I should kill you then,” Deena grumbled. In the hallway, Sam fought back a smile at the grumpiness of the gardener. “He’s your platonic husband and you’re letting him down in the most fucking tragic day of his life, Kate.”
“He understands,” Kate snapped back at her. “Besides, we’ve let each other down before.”
--
Eavesdropping on teenagers feels even worse. But Sam can’t help herself, again. She just seems to be at the right place at the right time, and nobody hears her coming. She was just looking for Constance and Josh when she found them talking in the classroom in whispers. She worried they might have been planning something unwise, so she listened in for a moment.
“Do you think they can follow us?” Constance asked in a whisper.
“No, I don’t think it works like that,” Josh replied.
The girl hummed thoughtfully and then added, in a considerably more distressed tone, “Do you think they’ll try to stop us?”
“Shh! Constance!” Josh stopped her. “Let’s just… see what happens, okay? We’re in this together, right? All of us.”
Sam considered intervening, but for the life of her she couldn’t figure out what they were talking about. She could barely keep track of their changing moods or Constance’s name. In the end, she walked away, deciding to keep an eye out and studying them more closely when she had the chance.
--
Sam had tried her best, but she really had nothing else to do at the moment. It was strange, having a day mostly free from her responsibilities as au pair. Deena would be taking Josh and Constance with her to Simon’s mom’s funeral. A little lost in her thoughts without anything else to do while they all got ready, Sam took a seat near the bottom of the stairs, looking out at the gardens she could see through the open door. It started out as a particularly sunny day, not at all something you’d expect for a funeral.
The au pair was leaning against the railing of the stairs. A little behind her, under the safety and familiarity of the manor’s shadows, Harry Rooker stood perfectly still. His clothes hadn’t changed at all in all the decades he had been wandering those halls, even his bowtie was in still place. The same couldn’t be said about his face though. The passing of the years, one after another, had slowly washed away his features. His eyes were no longer there, his mouth was barely noticeable and his nose wouldn’t likely last long. The burn on the side of his face, which had hurt him so much during the war and cost him so much even after his return, was still there, stubbornly, almost mocking him. As well as his knife, always in his hand, always sharp. Never being useful anymore.
The sound of a heavy pair of boots coming down the stairs, as often, disturbed the peace of the foyer. Sam tried not to look too excited as she turned her head to look at Deena descend the stairs, but when she saw the gardener’s outfit she probably failed to hide her pleased reaction.
“Hi,” Sam gasped a little and stood up, “You look…”
“Like I remembered how to take a shower?” Deena smirked. She reached the bottom of the stairs and showed off her clothes, consisting of all black pants, shirt, and blazer that fit her perfectly, made her look a little too good for a funeral, if Sam had to give her honest opinion.
“Like a waiter,” Sam said, biting her lip to keep that honest opinion from spilling out.
“Hey! Didn’t know that side of you, Sunnyvale. Rude,” Deena replied, smiling the entire time. When her expression softened a little, she asked, “Are you sure you’re okay staying here by yourself?”
“Yes, t’s okay. Besides, Kate’s here too.”
Deena made an unamused sound. “Sometimes it feels like she isn’t,” she murmured.
“Yeah,” Sam agreed quietly. Before the silence could stretch for too long, she spoke up again. “Anyway, I, um, had to… be present in a funeral, not too long ago. It’s… I can’t, again. Not yet.”
As she spoke, Sam couldn’t look Deena in the eyes. Not when the only thing in her mind was Sunnyvale. Peter. Her mother. Peter. Twentyfive entitled children in a classroom. Peter. A heavy engagement ring and suffocating wedding dress. Peter.
But it didn’t start like that. It started with her father getting sick, her mother being cruel enough to divorce him on the spot to save herself from taking care of him, and Sam being already in Sunnyvale, thirty minutes away, when he finally died. It started with her mother wrapping her in her best dress, too old for her already, and dragging her to the neighbors house, because they were rich, and look at that handsome young boy, he already has his eyes on you! They were only eight. But then they were twelve, and Peter got in a fight for her and felt entitled to her attention ever since, and nobody ever told her she didn’t have to give him anything she didn’t want to. So when he demanded it, she gave him a kiss, a second date, the color of her prom dress so he could get a matching tie. She gave and she gave until she didn’t know what else he could take from her, but everyone made her feel like she still owed him. So she gave hiim a second chance when he first hit her, and she gave him her bags when he told her to move in with him, she gave him a third and fourth chance, and she gave him the answer he wanted when he offered her a wedding ring.
“Sam? Are you okay?”
In the blink of an eye, Sam was back in Shadyside Manor, with Deena’s gentle hands on her elbows, anchoring her to reality, and those warm brown eyes worriedly searching her face, not knowing what horrors they could find behind the walls Sam spent a lifetime building.
“Yes,” Sam blurted out. “Yes, I’m okay. I’m okay.”
“Right,” Deena nodded and slowly stepped away from the au pair. “Well, I’m leaving now. Try to come up with something real to tell me when I return, okay?”
Sam suddenly couldn’t come up with any words so she nodded, smiled, and watched holding her breath as Deena walked away from her, not without glancing over her shoulder by the door.
--
Sam stood awkwardly in the middle of the chapel. She had made it too far to turn around now, but she didn’t dare move closer and interrupt Kate who appeared to be praying. Except, before Sam made up her mind about her next move, Kate spoke up without turning around.
“Are you just going to stand there like a ghost?”
“Sorry,” Sam blushed. “Uh, how did you know I was-”
“I have eyes on the back of my head, darling,” Kate replied with a smile and finally turned around.
“Am I interrupting you?”
“No, it’s okay,” Kate softened. “I’m not a funeral type of person. I deal with loss in my own way.”
“I get it,” Sam nodded. She found the courage to continue walking closer to the other woman.
“If you ask me,” Kate continued, somewhat unprompted, “This is more for our own comfort.” She nodded her head to the side, indicating the five red little candles burning. “You have to be there for people while they’re still alive. Simon gave his entire life for his mother. I’ve been there with him for most of the journey, in ways that I know count so much more than missing out on one tragic goodbye party.”
Again, Sam nodded. She took a seat down on one of the pews close to Kate. She really didn’t want to think about the funerals in her own life. Her mother made sure they arrived late and left early for Sam's father’s funeral. And then a few months ago…
“You two are very close,” she blurted out. It was a statement, a question, and mostly just a way to get Kate to keep talking.
“Best friends since childhood,” Kate said and she wore one of the most genuine smiles Sam had seen on her. “We kissed once, and afterward I punched him in the face. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Which might be the best and worst part about our friendship.”
“What do you mean?”
This time Kate took her time before replying. Her smile was gone.
“Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to leave Shadyside and see the world. But there was nothing that could have convinced Simon to leave his mom. He missed a chance to work at a restaurant in Paris, I missed my chance to see the world, but we have each other. We have each other and ninety-nine percent of the time it feels like the right choice.”
The remaining one percent of the time hung in the air of the chapel so heavily it was almost palpable.
“What about now?” Sam asked, not without a good amount of hesitation.
The meaning of her question was obvious. Simon wasn’t tethered to Shadyside anymore. However, there was no answer from the housekeeper. Kate chuckled sadly, completely dismissing the idea of grabbing a bag of her best clothes and her best friend’s hand and moving away to Paris any day now. Instead, she stood up and threw the little box of matches for Sam to catch.
“What?” Why?” The au pair looked back and forth between the matches and Kate.
“Light a candle,” Kate replied. She noticed the confusion in Sam’s face, but the au pair, unknowingly, carried her heart, broken and hopeful at once, on her sleeve. “Dead people, regrets, protection, good luck,” Kate said while methodically fixing the wrinkles on her red skirt, checking her ponytail, and mindlessly passing her hand over the back of her neck. “Everything counts.”
Sam stayed silent. She watched Kate walk out of the chapel and then she moved toward the candles. She moved almost automatically, lighting up the first match, but then she couldn’t bring herself to actually light the candle. The small flame burned bright for a second, highlighting the sadness in Sam’s blue eyes, but she let it die before reaching for a candle. }
Eventually, Sam decided to light up a new match and light up a single candle at random. Not for dead people, and not for her attempts at forgetting about them, but for the time she had wasted trying to please people that did nothing but hurt her for so long.
On the way out of the chapel, Sam made the mistake of glancing at the windows. Of course he was still there. He would never leave her, would he? She had seen him angry at her more times than she could count, but never like that. That expression of outstanding disgust and fury was forever etched in Sam’s memory of him. He was just a shadow, he was pure darkness in the shape of a man she once knew. But Sam had to look away and walk as fast as she could away from him, fearing that any day now his image would definitely leave the restrained space of reflective surfaces and finally kill her, like she had killed him.
--
“Dinner… is served!” Simon announced with a flourish.
Simon and Deena dropped several bags on the kitchen table and they chuckled when everyone else eagerly jumped forward to look at the contents spilling on the table.
“There’s nothing like an absurd amount of junk food to fix all your problems,” he smiled proudly at the scene in front of him. All the people closest to him with smiles on their faces, exchanging a warm meal and easy conversation. His smile turned just nostalgic enough, thinking about his mother, the woman who taught him that lesson. She used to fix all problems with food. She had special meals for every sickness, mended broken hearts with each person’s favorite food, and she celebrated every occasion with big feasts. So far, Simon couldn’t say she had ever failed.
Simon, Deena, Kate, Sam, Josh, and Constance, sat down at the table. They got started with their junk food feast. Everything was still hot, smelled amazing, and tasted even better. Behind Simon and the teenagers, stood Ruby Lane. She tilted her head one side and the other, observing the scene in front of her. Her slightly blurred expression showed confusion, then a hint of sadness, and finally settled in something surprisingly close to affection. Eating. Food. Good company. Friends. She distantly could remember the feeling of it all. The details had left her a while ago. But if she focused hard enough on the smiles of these strangers, she almost felt right at home, almost felt like she belonged with them, almost let herself believe that if she wanted to she could reach out, take a seat, enjoy a meal with them… Almost, almost but not quite.
At the table, conversation flowed easily. Everyone was enjoying the food, and the adults all had one or two beers with the meals, perhaps a little more. Despite the emotionally heavy day, the group was in a surprisingly good mood. A consequence of growing up in Shadyside, maybe. They were either the best or the worst at coping with loss. The trick was not knowing how to tell the difference between both extremes.
Sam was a little concerned about the fact that the pair of teenagers looked so refreshed and so much like themselves after attending a funeral. Maybe they just needed the time away from the manor. She just hoped it would last.
While all of them discussed favorite meals and comfort food, Simon finally explained his choice of food for the day. “This is actually from the first place where I worked,” he confessed.
“Really?” Sam asked, leaning forward with a kind smile.
“Yeah. My mom got me the job,” he added. “She was the sweetest woman, but she could be scary as shit if she wanted to. She convinced them to give a part-time job to little old me. I was barely fifteen.”
“Tell her why you got fired,” Kate said, raising a playful eyebrow in his direction.
Simon rolled his eyes and picked up a couple of fries to throw in her direction. “For giving you free food you asshole!”
While all the others laughed, Kate gasped loudly and wore a nearly comically offended expression for a moment. It was her turn to roll her eyes and lean across Deena to look at Sam and explain, “This bitch throwing me food like a toddler? He got fired for being too talented for a food truck, basically.”
“Ah, whatever,” Simon laughed. He ran a hand through his messy blonde hair and pushed through his unexpected shyness to explain. “The food was good, but it was also too slow and expensive. Got me fired but got me noticed.” He stopped then, and tried to make it seem natural and not at all like he was holding back information. Which made Sam think about the missed opportunity across the ocean that Kate had mentioned earlier that day. “But!” Simon went on, with extra cheerfulness on his voice to hide who knows how many things anymore, “now I get to happily cook for all of you, ungrateful little shits that you are.”
“Hey!” Deena protested, stopped a second to swallow her food and continued. “I am grateful. Dude, I love your food. I survived eating this cheap shit almost exclusively for like a decade. I’m in heaven when you cook actual food.”
“Do you just love me for my food?” Simon pouted dramatically.
Sam watched them banter with a smile. Before she could stop herself, she was joining the conversation. “This actually reminds me of my childhood in Shadyside,” she said, holding up a burger in her hand.
“What?” Kate smirked, “You don’t have these bad boys in Sunnyvale?”
Sam laughed along with everyone else, she was starting to feel just the slightest bit tipsy, and this time decided not to mention the fact that Kate hadn’t even taken a bite of her burger yet. However, she hadn’t managed to shake herself from the weird, nostalgic mood that had had a hold of her the entire day. One moment she was there, seated at the kitchen table in Shadyside Manor, and with the blink of an eye, she was back at an expensive Sunnyvale restaurant.
She had been more than a little tipsy back then, she had needed the courage in any way she could find it. During the meal, a hundred different memories of her mother’s cruel comments on her weight and eating habits passed through her mind. She didn’t push them away though, she focused on them, because it hadn’t been just her mother, and she needed to focus on that pain and resentment. Because seated across from her was Peter. Peter, who had joined her mother in criticizing her. Peter, who never once defended her from his own mother. Peter, who had hurt her emotionally and physically more than anybody else.
Peter, who refused to lose an argument, who didn’t know when to let it go, and would never let her go. They didn’t get to the altar, but since their first kiss, he had assumed only death would take her away from him. He didn’t consider he’d go first, he might have even dreamed of a second or third wife, and one or two times he had been close to being responsible for that sudden end. Instead, it was their anniversary, they were both drunk, Sam admitted more than she had meant to, he was yelling at her in the middle of the street, threatening to kill her, taking a step backward when she reached for him, and then there were the truck’s headlights…
“Oh, yeah,” Sam blurted out, and hoped they wouldn’t notice the way her voice was trembling. “But in Sunnyvale, we add a little caviar on top of the burgers.”
Sam was surprised to see everyone laugh at what she had considered a pretty lame joke. It was a beautiful sound. She didn’t think she’d ever been surrounded by the incredible number of five people that genuinely liked her for who she really was. Josh even choked a little on the food he had been chewing, and Simon slapped his back, maybe a little harder than necessary. It made Kate and Constance laugh even harder. Those were things that Sam noticed, but her focus was actually on the woman beside her. Deena had laughed with all of them, of course. But the soft smile she was directing at Sam was something completely different, something she couldn’t even compare to anything else she had ever experienced.
When the conversation hit an inevitable lull, Constance was the first one to notice the way Simon’s mood dimmed, his shoulders slumped and he stopped eating, just fumbling with the papers on the table. There was a lot a person could say to a friend that just lost their mother, then there was what a moody teenager with an exceptionally tragic life could offer.
“My aunt was a shit cook,” Constance blurted out. “These burgers were all she got for me when my parents died. But I couldn’t eat it… I thought I would never eat again, which would be okay because that would kill me and I’d be reunited with…” She shrugged, and everyone else at the table listened to her intently, rendered speechless not just by the unexpected confession, but because of her expression, neutral without being insensitive, sincere without being very emotional. “But then,” Constance continued, adding the smallest smiles here and there. “It was like I could hear my mom yelling at me for not eating. Cindy Berman could be a pain in the ass in case you didn’t know. But that feeling… it was like she was right there with me, beautiful and annoying and never gone entirely.”
For a moment, nobody knew what to say. Simon, although his eyes were glassy, smiled brightly at her. “You do not act as if you’re listening to your mom,” he said.
“Hey! I ignored her when she was alive too, she gets it,” Constance rolled her eyes playfully. “But the point is I know that we have to keep eating, and keep living… for them. Don’t we?”
“Yeah, we do,” Simon agreed.
He took a deep breath to get a hold of his emotions and raised his beer bottle to the center of the table, where Kate, Deena, and Sam joined him in a toast for the living. Constance joined in enthusiastically with a can of soda, but Josh didn’t move a muscle.
“Hey, do we have some more beer?” Josh asked a moment later. “I could really use one.”
“Uh, no. Not at fifteen you can’t,” Deena replied immediately. She tensed on her seat.
The teenage boy rolled his eyes and focused on the au pair across the table from him. “Miss Fraser, do you think I could have a beer?” He asked with a sharp, charming smile that looked just a little off on the edges.
“I… agree with your sister, Josh,” Sam replied carefully. She didn’t want to cross any boundaries, but she was also responsible for the teenagers.
“Do you have any idea how long I’ve gone without a real drink?!”
“I remember my first beer,” Kate interrupted him, reminiscing with an easy smile on her face. “It was my first time babysitting Constance, and then Christine thought it would be a good idea to give me a beer.”
“My mom hated beer,” Sam said. “She used to say one sip could mean I’ll end up in hell.” Then she took a hearty sip, thinking of her mother and the thousand suffocating rules she’d pressed upon Sam’s shoulders her entire life.
“Well,” Deena smirked, “You did end up in Shadyside so…”
While most of them laughed, Josh’s face contorted into an expression of deep frustration and rage until he didn’t look like himself anymore. “Why the hell am I being controlled by a bunch of dykes?!” He slammed his hand on the table furiously.
But just as soon as the words left his mouth, Sam and Deena jumped out of their chairs. Deena was his sister, and maybe Sam was just the au pair, but while Deena was so angry that she couldn’t even get any words out, Sam got ahead of her.
“That language, and that attitude, and beyond unacceptable, Josh. You are going to your room right now. No discussion. Did you hear me?” Sam said, her voice firm, unwavering, and her stance perfectly commanding.
All eyes were on her, but she was staring straight at Josh. He didn’t budge, he was stronger than most teenagers Sam had ever worked with, but she was even stronger. She didn’t hesitate at all. She glanced quickly at Constance, and the girl, despite intensely rolling her eyes, stood up and walked toward Josh. She not-so-gently grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the chair. Slowly, and with Josh throwing threatening looks at Sam over his shoulder, they walked out of the kitchen. After excusing herself, Sam followed them. She didn’t look back to see the impressed looks her friends were exchanging, pleasantly surprised by that side of her.
--
“Hey, Sunnyvale,” Deena said as soon as she caught sight of Sam walking down the stairs of the manor to the foyer where she was waiting for her.
Sam reached the end of the stairs and noticed that Deena was wearing a jacket, and holding Sam’s own jacket in her hands. But when the au pair reached out to grab it, Deena pulled back.
“Ah, ah. Not yet,” Deena said. She was smiling, but there was a hint of worry in her eyes. “You only get warmth in exchange for information.” Her words made the au pair chuckle, and Deena instantly felt herself relax a little. “How did it go with my asshole brother?” She finally asked.
“Um, it was fine, I think,” Sam replied. “He… Well, I think he’s embarrassed. He probably regrets it a lot. He’s acting almost as if he doesn’t even remember what he said.”
“That doesn’t make it better,” Deena frowned. She felt pretty embarrassed about the entire incident, and she was so not looking forward to having that conversation with Josh, who apparently had turned into some kind of monster in the place of her sweet younger brother. “I’m sorry about it.”
Sam shrugged and attempted a smile. “If it helps, I think he really listened when I explained that we all just want what’s best for him, and having that makes him luckier than most of us.”
The gardener nodded thoughtfully. “I agree with you there,” she said as she held open Sam’s jacket to help her put it on. Deena was careful, and her hands were confident, but at the same time, she barely touched Sam’s body as she helped her. The only thing she couldn’t help herself from doing was standing perhaps a little closer than necessary. Enough to feel her heart skip a beat when Sam’s blonde hair brushed her cheek, and the smell of some sweet-scented shampoo filled her senses. “But also, how depressing is that for us?” Deena said, stepping back from Sam. The au pair laughed and turned around to stare a Deena, who offered her a hand and said, “Come on, let’s go be depressing outside for a change.”

Films you need to watch if you want to fit in at film school.
By now, you’re probably knee deep in your filmmaking course at film school or university and if you want to keep up with the film discussions in between classes, then here’s a list of exemplary films to watch (and flex on) whilst at school.
It’s never a fun moment when you’re sat in a group of other film buffs and everyone but you have seen one particular film. Not only that, but they continue to bang on about it, and in those 12 minutes you’re left wishing gosh, I wish I had watched that now.
Tumblr media
I know the feeling and to make sure you don’t get caught out again, this list of films not only covers your filmmaker wannabe basics, but also a few swarve anomalies that you can throw into the discussion like a true culture vulture.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Tumblr media
I shouldn’t be saying this but if you haven’t seen Pulp Fiction and you made it to film school, just leave. Hand in your student ID at reception and walk out the door, watch Pulp Fiction and come back to the next day. If you haven’t seen the 90s cult classic directed by Quentin Tarantino, it’s likely you’ve had at least one person disgusted by your lack of engagement for the film. But why is it such a necessity amongst the filmmakers of today? Well after a highly successful debut of Reservoir Dogs at Cannes Films Festival in 1992, Tarantino created another world of filmmaking. What he brought to the industry was a perspective and whole landscape that had never been seen before and the release of Pulp Fiction in 1994, certainly proved that Tarantino wasn’t a one trick pony. With a stellar cast, most of which were in their early days, and an outstanding storyline, Pulp Fiction is any filmmaker's paradise. And seriously, you can’t keep avoiding it.
Fight Club (1999)
Tumblr media
Keeping it in the 90s, is David Fincher’s Fight Club, another revolutionary film from the king of psychological thrillers. If the name David Fincher doesn’t mean anything to you, it probably should, seeing as his films have grossed over $2.1 billion at the box office globally and earnt him 30 Academy Award nominations. Story, script and cast align perfectly in all of Fincher’s films, with Fight Club being no exception. Based on the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahnuik, Fight Club follows two men (Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, enough said) who initiate in an organised fight club. Sounds pretty straight forward until you get to the end and realise Fincher has been messing with all of us the entire time. In terms of early filmmaking and story structure, Fight Club is an excellent cult classic to sink your teeth into.
Psycho (1960)
Tumblr media
Another name to be aware of, Alfred Hitchcock laid down the foundation for thrillers for generations to come. For it’s time, Psycho was revolutionary as it broke the strict censorship and threat barriers created in the world of filmmaking in the 60s. There are some iconic scenes in Psycho, along with an unnerving score and a whopping $39.2 million profit in the box office. Hitchcock also took a gamble killing off the star of the film, Janet Leigh, 45 minutes into the film. However, Psycho just goes to show that risks can also pay off.
La Haine (1995) “The Hate”
Tumblr media
There’s a reason why some of the most revolutionary films can be found in the 90s. The 90s was the year of filmmaking that gave two fingers to the world and most of its stories belonged to the misfits and outcasts of society. Films were violent, punchy and led by young protagonists, raking in teenage audiences and voices. La Haine is a prime and clear cut example of the injustice between races and class in Paris, winning a Best Director award at Cannes in 1995. The film was so thought provoking and hard hitting, that the Prime Minister of France at the time forced his cabinet ministers to watch it. I’m sorry, if La Haine is good enough for the Prime Minister of France, it’s good enough for anyone.
Any Bong Joon Ho Film
Tumblr media
With the success of Parasite still looming over Hollywood, Bong Joon Ho has to be the industry’s biggest underdog. Before the 2020 Oscars, most weren’t even aware of the director’s work or how gratifying he is as a storyteller. Each film is meticulously executed, with a hard hitting political message sewn beneath the surface of the overall film. Bong Joon Ho was quoted saying that this technique isn’t intentional and the breadth of the films he makes is found once they’re completed. From Okja that explores animal cruelty to Snowpiercer which explores class division, Bong Joon Ho has a way with imbedding societal issues into his films in a stylstic and structured way that should have any filmmaker filled with envy. He’s a strong voice for Asian cinema who’s had a sharp impact on western cinema without feeling the need to have all his films in the english language.
The 400 Blows (1960) “Les Quatre Cents Coups”
Tumblr media
Whether you’re at school, in a lecture or amongst friends GUARANTEED the 400 Blows is going to worm its way into conversation at some point. The film was part of The French New Wave movement of the last 50s that created the foundation for French Cinema for films to come. The French New Wave was a significant movement that sought out to reject traditional ways of filmmaking and introduced new, more experimental ways of telling stories on screen. Francois Truffat won Best Director at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival for his directorial debut about a young boy struggling through Paris between his teachers at school and parents at home. The film shone a light on the misunderstood youth of the late 50s and early 60s, setting off a whole co-ord of films within the same genre later on.
Moonlight (2016)
Tumblr media
Barry Jenkins became the underdog of 2017, with his beautiful and captivating story Moonlight, following a young boy through early adolescence and adulthood. The film is impeccably shot with rich colours and seamless shots. Moonlight won big time at the 2017 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. The film certainly set the world of filmmaking on fire and carved out space for more black filmmakers to enter into the industry.
Hereditary (2018)
Tumblr media
It’s easy to forget that this film was released 2 years ago as it has had some groundbreaking reception since then. Hereditary, directed by Ari Aster, sets a bar and tone within horror films that has never been touched on before. Before him, your average horrors came from low budget gimmicky films where the lead actress would be running around in her underwear by the end of the film. Hereditary keeps everyone in their clothes (for the most part) and viewers on the edge of their seats for the entirety of the film. What stands at the forefront of this film is the slow pace and artistically beautiful frames that Ari Aster has meticulously curated to create a work of art. It’s everything you wanted in a horror film but could never really ask for, due to the over saturation of the horror films on the market and predictable jump scares that come with them. I found that the jump scares in Hereditary were put in the most unpredictable places, leaving me and most people visibly shaken and disturbed.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
Tumblr media
Probably the first PG film on this list, Wes Anderson’s most iconic film The Grand Budapest Hotel, is a production designer’s paradise. Not only that, it features an insanely good cast with the likes of Jeff Goldblum, Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law and Edward Norton starring in the film. Wes Anderson’s mind is like a fairy tale book; he has the ability to create other worlds filled with bright colours and characters that EVERY ACTOR are dying to be. The Grand Budapest is probably Anderson’s most ambitious film to date and features some production design techniques that are beyond real.
Amélie (2001)
Tumblr media
Amélie is your basic starter pack in French Cinema. Seeing as every charity shop has at least one copy of Amélie for sale, you have zero excuse for not having seen it yet. Even if French Cinema isn’t your thing, it’s very likely the entirety of French Cinema will be a topic of interest within your filmmaking course and Amélie is a fine place to start. The film ties the story, soundtrack and visuals perfectly and for any indie filmmaker, it’s a good example of taking a simple story but executing it in a complex way. In terms of box office, Amélie scored pretty well, with a humble budget of $10 million and making over $173 million globally. It was also nominated for five Academy Awards in 2002 and remains as one of the best and most iconic films to come out of France.
Good Time (2017)
Tumblr media
With a humble budget of $2 million, Good Time made double in the box office and had a Hollywood star at its forefront. In fact Good Time skyrocketed Robert Pattinson’s career and since it’s release, Pattinson has gone on to be part of some amazing projects. Seeing Pattinson in such a gritty role in Good Time, was highly refreshing and totally suited him in every way. New York based filmmakers, Josh and Benny Safdie co directed and wrote the crime thriller after having an impressive response from their previous film, Heaven Knows What. They recently completed Uncut Gems for Netflix starring Adam Sandler, which continued the crime thriller neon lights aesthetic that's come with their two previous films. Good Time is jaw droppingly good, and for those wanting to go into lighting, it is a must watch. The deeper the story goes, the more you feel the urge to gasp as Robert Pattinson feeds us with an unrecognisable performance.
8 ½ (1963)
Tumblr media
We are getting into sophisticated territory here with Fredrico Fellini’s 8 ½ . For those Scorsese and Tarantino fans out there, Fellini is your filmmaking bread and butter as both filmmakers have admitted to being heavily inspired by the Italian’s cinematic masterpieces. Fellini had the ability to tie reality with fantasy in a personal way, depicting a lot of his own life within his films. 8 ½ is no expectation, as it details the making of the actual film in the film and the rocky relationship he had with his wife, who starred in a few of his films. Fellini is named as one of the best filmmakers of all time, for his experimental style and off the wall filmmaking techniques. No one can or could do what Fellini did and there’s yet to be anyone who measures up to him.
Get Out (2017)
Tumblr media
You like Get Out, I like Get Out, we ALL like Get Out. The film was the first of its kind in many ways and resonated with an audience that hadn’t yet been found. Jordan Peele wrote and directed the film, which grossed 100 times more than the film’s budget at the box office. This film is the epitome of less is more, taking a somewhat simple idea and heightening the possibilities of it. Jordan Peele became world renowned for it, along with British actor Daniel Kaluuya for his performance that earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2018 Academy Awards. Get Out stands as a film that did what no one else has done before and for that, it deserves all the praise it gets.
All Celine Sciamma films
Tumblr media
It’s likely the first time you heard of French filmmaker Celine Sciamma was from her groundbreaking, break through film Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Premiering at Cannes 2019, the film earned the Queer Palm d’Or and Best Screenplay Award. The film is simple, gorgeously shot and significantly deep in its telling. Not only will Portrait of a Lady on fire set you on fire, but all of Sciamma’s films sit on a level of filmmaking that is praise worthy. Her past films, Waterlilies and Girlhood explore coming of age stories amongst women and are executed in a highly personal and understanding way. She is the queen of female indie filmmakers and certainly one of the best french filmmakers in the industry to date.
I, Daniel Blake (2016)
Tumblr media
It can be hard to remove the gimmicks and big names from the stories being sold on screen and get straight to the heart of a film. Ken Loach has brought an incomparable style of filmmaking to the table that sets him apart from almost every filmmaker out there. It's easy to compare a Tarantino film to a David Fincher one, however, throw Ken Loach into the mix there's just about zero relation to either filmmaker or their styles. I, Daniel Blake won Outstanding British Film of the Year in 2017 BAFTAs and the Palm d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It’s no wonder why the Cannes Film Festival ate this film up seeing as the realism and grittiness of I, Daniel Blake gave a voice to a large part of society that is heavily ignored. This film leaves you nodding in agreement at the reality of the way things are even if that reality is incredibly hard to bear.
The Meyerowitz Stories (2017)
Tumblr media
For those budding screenwriters out there, the work of Noah Baumbach is necessary in understanding three dimensional characters and the dialogue that comes with them. The Meyerowitz Stories stands from Baumbach’s other films, seeing as the screenplay and actual film are completely the same. On reading the screenplay of this film, I found not one single word of dialogue was forgotten about or changed, which is a pretty incredible achievement for any filmmaker. It certainly showed the actors (Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson, Adam Driver) had a lot of respect for the words on the page and each one of their performances sought to lift them off it. Baumbach’s writing style is beautifully accurate to real speech; there’s interruptions, over layered conversations and a great deal of tangents. The dialogue is like music and is only elevated by the well rounded cast.
The Master (2012)
Tumblr media
Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson has this hypnotic way of arresting his audiences to invest in his films for two and a half hours, then drop them at the last second. You don’t know why you’re watching or feel so absorbed in the worlds he creates, however it’s as if something over takes your attention, forcing you to carry on watching till the end. The Master is no different with a prolific cast and slow burnt pace to it. It's hard to explain what it is about this film that makes it so great. The cast made up of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Jesse Plemons bring a top level performance and it feels like they’re always sitting on a secret. Every moment, every word, every shot is unmissable and the entirety of the film sets a bar of filmmaking that is flawless. Paul Thomas Anderson is a master (pardon the pun) of arresting his audiences and is someone to follow if you wish to do the same with your own films. For budding cinematographers, all of PTA’s films are worth a watch.
12 years a slave (2013)
Tumblr media
Probably the best film out there that depicts slavery, 12 years a slave is a heart wrenching and moving film directed by Steve McQueen. The sensitivity and authenticity Steve McQueen brings to his films is A class, as he does an outstanding job of really transporting his audiences to a time before. There are many scenes in 12 years a slave that can be considered some of the best ever made. The cast is in-sane with the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong’o, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and even a young Storm Reid and Kelvin Harrison Junior, all joined within this story. Films with such casts are rare and it’s unquestionable why the film was nominated for Nine Academy Awards, winning three back in 2014.
The Social Network (2010)
Tumblr media
Even though I wasn’t a fan of The Social Network, I can still appreciate the musicality behind the work of Aaron Sorkin and the screenplay he wrote for this. The collaboration between David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin on this film is something the world certainly needed, as two highly skilled masters of film came together and served us a huge slice of their talent. The Social Network is 100% the screenwriter’s film, and one to watch when trying to analyse successful dialogue within films.
 Babel (2006)
Tumblr media
Those who are into the episodic film, you are advised to look into the work of Alejandro G. Iñárritu. A name you might not be too familiar with, but you only need to have seen Birdman or The Revenant to appreciate his talents as a director and unique voice. Babel struck me as a poignant and INCREDIBLY structured film, with a satisfying 360 to it, as all the stories connect to one another in a distinct way. It’s so clear that a lot of time was put into writing such a screenplay and the production itself is to be noted, for scenes are filmed in Morocco, Tokyo, California and Mexico. That takes a LOT of money, time, effort and people, however if was certainly worth it as Babel is hands down one of the best films you’ll ever see.
The films of Xavier Dolan.
Tumblr media
Xavier Dolan is Cannes Film Festival’s godson. The man has attended every festival for the past 10 years and each time, when in competition, he brings a personal and hard hitting perspective within his films. I have seen all but one of these films, and I suggest you do too. Xavier Dolan’s directorial debut I Hate My Mother scooped him numerous awards at the Cannes Film Festival and was made when Dolan was only 20. From then, he went on to direct several french/canadian films that won him the Jury Prize, Un Certain Regard and Queer Palm at Cannes. He’s a filmmaker who puts so much passion and devotion into his work, which is seen through the incredible acting, story and dialogue shown within his films. Two must see films of his would be Mommy and Laurence Anyways, especially for the acting. Xavier Dolan also directed the music video for Adele’s Hello music video which is one of the most watched music videos of all time, with 2.7 Billion views on YouTube.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Tumblr media
Lynne Ramsay’s 2017 film starring Joaquin Phoenix is everything and more that you want from a thriller. It’s probably one of the best thrillers out there on the market and is highly underrated. Lynne Ramsay’s previous spellbinding feature We Need To Talk About Kevin sent pulses racing through the industry, giving Ramsay the recognition she deserves and even earning her a Palm d’Or nomination at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. As a female filmmaker, Lynne Ramsay is one to watch for she has a knack at creating her own original slow burning, deep stories and directing them in a seamless way.
The films of Christopher Nolan
Tumblr media
Christopher Nolan’s 11th film recently hit cinemas and no one knows what the hell is going on in it. However, there are plenty of other Christopher Nolan films that don’t melt your brain or send the guy next to you at the cinema cursing throughout the film in frustration at not understanding the film. The Dark Knight is said to have one the best performances in cinema history, with the late Heath Ledger taking on the role of the Joker. Not only that, but the likes of Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale are also featured alongside Ledger, creating an untouchable cast. Dunkirk also deserves an honourable mention as one of Nolan’s films, seeing as I couldn’t breathe throughout the entire film. The second Dunkirk begins, the tension builds and you’re kept in a constant state of panic for the characters on screen. As far as war films go, Dunkirk is up there and it’s cinematic qualities were recognised at the 2018 Academy Awards, picking up three awards. What we can take from Christopher Nolan and his ability to execute stories on screen is that he spends a great deal on his screenplays before production. Tenet took FIVE YEARS to write (and probably another five to understand) certainly showing his devotion and dedication to his ideas as a filmmaker.
Honorouble mentions (that u should definitely check out)
Taxi Driver (1976) A Clockwork Orange (1971) Call me by your name (2017) Her. (2017) Do the right thing (1989)
Obviously there are 100s of other films worth watching that aren’t on this list, however if you were to watch all films mentioned on this list, you’d certainly get a different perspective on the possibilities of filmmaking and the stories they tell.

Hi, thank you for all the help before! I’m wondering that is there any fic about Alpha! Theo? Thx!
As promised, here is the second part of the alpha Theo request!
Woohoo by Shipper_Trash (Teen | Complete | 1.1K) Tags: Mpreg, alpha Theo, omega Liam, kid fic, married Thiam Summary: This is a future fic, in the same 'verse as this: Get Together!! A Peek Inside: “Uhhh,” he tries to think how to answer, because if he says yes, then they won’t ever be able to play pillow fights, and that is not something he can let happen. If he says no, he will have to explain and she is too young! This situation shouldn’t have arisen at least until she was well in her teens. Like, 19. Yes, 19 is a perfectly reasonable age to give her the talk.
What’s Your Deepest Desire by ReignWrites (Explicit | WIP | 15K) Tag: Graphic depictions of violence, alpha Theo, panic attacks, angst and fluff and smut, memory alteration, kidnapped Theo Summary: A new and unknown Supernatural being is wrecking havoc in Beacon Hills when people have been disappearing one by one. The problem has been going on for weeks and worsens when Theo Raeken ends up missing. In a desperate attempt to save the innocent lives of Beacon Hills and put a stop to this monster, Liam Dunbar calls Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski for help despite having departed a few months ago. The last thing Theo remembers is being ambushed by a man with glowing tattoos and blue eyes before being sucked into a fantasy universe. This world is Theo’s happy place and filled with his heart’s deepest desires. Liam’s in love with him, Theo has a comfortable bed to sleep on, he’s a real werewolf, and the alpha of his own pack. A part of him knows this reality is fake, but the way Liam kisses him and looks at him with so much love in his eyes makes Theo stay. He’s finally happy, and he’s forgetting everything about his past life. Will Liam, Scott, and the rest of the puppy pack be able to save Theo, or will they lose him forever to this fake reality? A Peek Inside: Oh, how Theo wishes he’s here for a night shift. He would’ve come into this clinic with a dazzling smile on his face, but he’s only filled with dread. “I was out driving,” he starts and frowns, suddenly becoming uncomfortable. No one knows about his homeless situation, and the fact he was about to sleep near the monster sends a shudder through his body. “And I saw this man dragging a woman’s body in a barn. I went to go check it out, but I saw him—” he cuts himself off.
A tale written with fangs and claws by Former_Princess (Teen | WIP | 488K) Tags: Smut, mates, friends to lovers, alpha Theo, slow build, bisexual Liam Summary: This is a story of a spark getting ignited when nobody thought it would happen. This is the story of how Liam Dunbar became an Alpha and got a mate and a whole pack to call his own. This is the story of the Morning Dew Pack. A Peek Inside: Now Liam opened his beer too and raised it. “To Seattle and our new life.”
The way you move by brightsummernights (Teen | WIP | 31K) Tags: Tags vary depending on which oneshot you read (please read them carefully) Summary: My collection of unconnected Thiam one shots. A Peek Inside: He is screwed.
An Empty Barstool by Endraking (Mature | WIP | 29K) Tags: after college, angst, alpha chimera Theo Summary: Scott heads back to Beacon Hills after college to establish his adult life. He has to make a decision with regards to Theo, who has handled protecting Beacon Hills since the pack left for college. This ultimately leads to Theo, and his pack, on the run from an ambitious pack and hunters leaving Scott's pack to deal with the new threats to Beacon Hills. A Peek Inside: Scott shook his head before he glanced over to the chimera.  Theo’s face was still bruised and swollen with a nasty cut that lined the right side of his face, with a few drops of blood collected on the bar.  The chimera wore a beaten smile, a genuine one the alpha took note of, as he picked up his beer and took drink.  Scott nervously grinned as he asked, “Shouldn’t you get that checked out?  I thought you’d heal by now.”
Delirium by hollyster (Explicit | Complete | 5K) Tags: A/B/O dynamics, smut, mates, mating bites, public humiliation, knotting Summary: AU/ In which Theo is the Alpha of the Puppy Pack and Liam his Mate who forgets to take his pills to avoid a surprise heat and, goes into heat while eating a burger at the local grill. (Scott is a true Alpha, Liam's his beta but Theo's mate and omega in his pack) (Theo didn't kill anyone, Scott gave him a bit of his power, he's just a good pal with his own pack) A Peek Inside: "I'm in the car, baby. Everything's gonna be fine, I'm there in ten."
Power by liamschimera (Explicit | Complete | 981) Tags: Major character death, dark Theo, dark Liam, murder, ritualistic sacrifice, resurrection, heavy angst, alpha Theo Summary: “No, you look at me.” Theo snarled, sitting up as best he could as tears fell down his face now. “You watch me bleed out, you watch me die. You spineless fucking coward.” A Peek Inside: The Alpha with his stolen eyes, his stolen pack. He doesn’t know how he fell this far, he doesn’t know how it came to this. All he knows is how it started.
The Boyfriend Experience by ExtraSteps (Explicit | Complete | 52K) Tags: Smut, kidnapping, Liam is an escort Summary: Theo is a self-made alpha werewolf. By day he builds up his business, Raeken Industries and by night he runs the hottest club in LA, Sinema. Alongside his pack, Tracy, Josh, Corey and Hayden, he helps to protect LA. Escorting is so commonplace in this town that Theo doesn’t even blink twice when Derek Hale, another alpha, introduces him to Liam Wolf at Sinema one night. What does surprise him, however, is his immediate and intense attraction to the other man and the realisation that Liam is his mate. Liam's only been a werewolf for four years, having been taken in by Scott and the rest of his pack, but he's been fitting in just fine. Working as an escort under Scott is certainly no hardship, and with his blue eyes and cheeky smile, he's never had to try all that hard to pull new clients. Liam is out with Derek when he introduces him to Theo. He's definitely attracted to the young alpha; Theo's hot and rich, what's not to like? But the name Theo Raeken always seems to be followed by whispers of some unspeakable event, of a past marred in ambiguity. What happened five years ago and why does it still have such a profound effect on the LA packs? A Peek Inside: His gaze was drawn up, to where a balcony hovered over the dance floor. It was hard to see past the lights, but he was pretty sure there was a dark figure shadowed behind them. As Liam squinted up there, he was left with the distinct impression that the man was looking at him as well. He didn’t know why. It was just a feeling shivering down his spine.
those who wait by LovelyLittleGrim (Explicit | Complete | 6.7K) Tags; Dark, manipulation, claiming, biting, smut, alpha Theo Summary: Theo finally gets what he's always wanted. A Peek Inside: Theo breathes in, Liam’s scent surrounds him. The smell of arousal and need fade, turn into something bitter with worry. He closes his eyes and waits, lets his heartbeat settle into something neutral and thinks carefully about everything he had thought out two days prior. All the words in all the right order, in all the right places. All the looks; downcast eyes, trembling fingers—everything that would build the perfect lie.
Sculpture In Briefs by saawinchester (Explicit | Complete | 20K) Tags: Alpha Theo, enemies to lovers, smut, underage Summary: Liam’s parents left him the house and very little cash before they scurried away to go live their life of adventure. Forced to be independent too soon, Liam had to look for a means to pay the bills, keep himself in school and put food on his table. That leads to him displaying his body for people to drool or ogle at while he swerves to the music and for the right price- get to touch. Of course none of his schoolmates and pack members know about his late night activities. Enter the ever inquisitive Theo Raeken who comes into the picture with his flirty smirk, stupid perfect hair and hypnotic hazel eyes. Liam never hesitated to show his dislike for the other werewolf. Not even when Theo Raeken gets to discover his night job and….. pays for a lap dance? A Peek Inside: Theo’s eyes flickered up to the exotic dancer seeing sweat shine along his body as he swayed sexily to the current beat. Now that he was close, an inkling of familiarity was starting to simmer within him. Like he had seen those muscles flex before and that……scent…..apricot….No. His eyes dropped down to the right side of the gorgeous dancers hip and there it was… .just peaking out of seams of the underwear was a little red heart tattoo. He gasped as the dancer swerved to face him, oblivious to his presence….Liam Dunbar.

Yuletide 2020 Letter
Dear potential writer,
I truly hope all is well with you and yours. No matter what state you find yourself in, my wish is that Yuletide boosts your spirits and gives you the extra jolt we all could use to usher in the new year.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and thank you in advance if you decide to write anything for me!
Below are my desired fandoms and pairings along with story ideas that I would love to see written. Please don’t feel stifled by my prompts; I’ve also listed my general likes and dislikes at the very bottom of this letter if you decide to go a different route.
Little Women (2019):
Characters: Amy March and Theodore “Laurie” Laurence”
The main reason I adore this adaptation is because it made me see why Amy and Laurie ended up together. They had very similar worldviews and fit so well what the other needed. Both deserved to be with someone that valued them for who they are. With Laurie, Amy was not just financially secure but with someone who encouraged her to express herself creatively, politically, or however she chose. With Amy, while she grounded Laurie in reality and challenged him to be the best version of himself, he didn't have to fundamentally change to make her happy.
Story ideas:
These quotes really show how Amy's perspective on life was different than her sister's: "You are your family's hope." (Aunt March) "I’ve always known I would marry rich." (Amy March) That's a lot of pressure on someone so young. We heard some of Laurie's thoughts, mostly that he didn't think Amy should feel ashamed for wanting that. How would some of that pressure continue even after she got married, and what would Laurie say to make her realize they were in life together as a team and she didn’t have to suffer the weight of the world alone?
The conversation between Amy and Laurie in the painting studio showed just how level-headed and intelligent she was. Laurie, while not wholly agreeing, was respectful and didn't discount her thoughts. It would be interesting to see the impact on their story if Vaughn hadn't arrived, and this had played out more. Would the proposal have happened earlier and/or how would later scenes be altered as a result of further conversation?
What did the other characters think of Amy and Laurie's relationship, and how did it change after seeing them interact more as a couple? It would be interesting to read about Meg, Marmee, John, or some of the other characters realizing they were genuinely a good match for each other.
Post-canon, I'd love to get a glimpse of what kinds of conversations they had. Did Amy encourage Laurie to pursue a career and find what he was passionate about (music perhaps as Laurie mentioned writing an opera)? And similarly, did Laurie encourage Amy to pursue her art? Did they continue to have in-depth conversations about societal pressures and expectations of gender in certain economic classes?
Tenet:
Characters: The Protagonist, Kat, and Neil
Tenet is the first movie I've seen in theaters since Star Wars IX. There have been some mixed reviews, but my love for Christopher Nolan sci-fi films combined with the experience of stepping foot in a theater again made it a wonderful experience for me. Sure, the plot could be confusing at times, but it was fun trying to fit certain puzzle pieces together and oh so thrilling when things just clicked into place in the most satisfying ways.
I adored the dynamic between Neil and the Protagonist. The easy friendship, the banter, the suits... everything. I also loved the relationship between the Protagonist and Kat. It started off as each using the other but transformed into one of genuine care on both sides. Ever the romantic, I definitely saw something more than just friendship between the two and was slightly disappointed the movie didn't explore that aspect more.
For pairings, I’m interested in friendships between all of the characters. I’d be interested in seeing a romantic relationship between Kat and the Protagonist if you’re up for that, but not between Neil and Kat, nor Neil and the Protagonist. If you really want to give a romantic partner to Neil, I'd be fine with Laura (or an original female character if she’s not the focus of the story), but please, no slash. While I’d be ecstatic to see all three characters together, if you can only find a way to fit in two, that’s wonderful as well!
Story ideas:
Even though Andrei Sator is gone, there are still other players in the game, some like Priya, who want to eliminate Kat or even abduct her with the delusional idea she can continue her husband's work. The Protagonist (and Neil, if you so choose) ensures no harm comes to her, and he realizes that keeping her at a distance may not have been the best idea.
I personally don't buy into the fan theory that Neil is Kat's son Max; however, I do find the idea intriguing and would be up for reading about how that worked. The Protagonist breaks his rule and sees Kat, helping to raise her son Max/Neil and eventually teaching him about inversion.
The Protagonist doesn't have to wait quite as long as he'd thought to see Neil again. It can be the Neil who had already met him and knows about Tenet or the Neil who knows nothing about inversion.
What conversations did Neil and Kat have while the Protagonist was asleep after almost freezing to death? Maybe Neil explained the finer workings of Tenet and inversion more in-depth. Perhaps they discussed the Protagonist.
Clueless:
Characters: Cher Horowitz and Josh Lucas
This movie set the bar high for teen romantic comedies. How can anyone ever beat 90s Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd? Plus, the relationship between their two characters is fantastic. Josh and Cher just bring out the best in each other. Cher shows Josh that he doesn't need to be so serious all of the time and that people are more than their outer appearances. Josh makes Cher want to be a better person, and he believes that she's not just a pretty face. Their banter and playful moments always make me smile.
Story ideas:
Knowing Josh and Cher end up together, this brings a heightened awareness to rewatches. They have so many casual touches and exchanged glances (when did Paul Rudd's eyes get so blue?) that it's hard to miss their natural chemistry. It may take quite some time for Cher's dad to notice anything has changed because they don't act all that different from before. Is there something that makes him finally take notice? How does he react?
Sort of related to the last prompt, there's a moment where Josh decides to go to the dance to keep an eye on Cher and Christian, and you can tell by Mel Horowitz’s smirk he realizes Josh has a crush on Cher. Does he do anything to push it along or play matchmaker just like his daughter?
I've always been curious about whether or not Josh believes Cher's story about being assaulted in the car by Elton and then held at gunpoint. We skip over Josh pulling up to the phone booth and go straight to Cher already being in the car. How did Josh react when she reiterated the story, and does he instantly believe her, or does it take some convincing? I'd like to see if he comforts her and if they both go together to tell Cher's dad what happened.
Cher is obviously very intelligent socially, if not always so much academically. When it comes time to apply for college, what does she major in? And how is Josh a positive influence in Cher's life, encouraging her to be ambitious and not letting negative comments from guidance counselors or teachers dissuade her?
Things I don’t like:
Alternate Universes – For the specific fandoms that I picked, I really like the universes as they are. I’m definitely okay with deviations from canon, but please don’t make Little Women into a supernatural werewolf story or have Tenet take place in a mundane coffee shop setting. (I don’t mind Soulmate AUs or something similar because those can be incorporated into canon with little change to worldbuilding).
Non-Con/Rape/BDSM/Sexual Violence/Graphic Sex – I like my characters to be happy and everything within ships to be 100% consensual, no question about it (mentions of non-con if it occurred in canon is fine). I also prefer plot over porn, especially with one-shots.
OT3s – Two people per romantic relationship, please. Any more than that makes me uncomfortable.
Character Bashing - Unless a character is a bad guy in canon, I don’t want to read hundreds of words about how awful they are, especially if they are one of the characters that I requested. Don’t take it out on the characters. If you hate my pairings, just write gen.
Things I love:
Hurt/Comfort – There is nothing I love more than one character comforting another. The hurt can be physical, psychological, or both.
Happy Endings – I’m all for the realistic endings… but if they could be plausible AND at least happy-ish, that would be amazing.
Expanded Scenes/Contorting Canon – Feel free to expand scenes and change up the canon to your heart’s content as long as it makes logical sense.
Humor/Banter/Snark – I thrive on this stuff.
Bonding/Building Relationships – Whether it be a friendship or a romantic relationship, I adore reading about two people growing closer together. When characters know each other so well that they can have conversations with just their eyes or anticipate the person’s next move (especially if it’s to the surprise/confusion of everyone around them), my shipper heart is thrilled.
Dark to Light – Seeing a character come out of a bad mindset or situation and get better is so satisfying.
Happy writing and I hope you get the Yuletide gift of your dreams!

Hi! Im same anon from few weeks ago thanking you for getting me into the magicians bc dopamine etc and rn Im watching s4 (near end but im rationing it. kinda) but i dont really filter spoilers so Ive seen stuff from s5 and I have to say... every single thing I read/see sounds like a fever dream and not even a fun one. What is going on? I'm not sure i want to know.
oh my god it’s miserable man i’m so sorry. s5 is..... so bad fasdfasdf i avoided watching it for a year bc i didn’t want to waste my energy trying to p*rate it. but i watched it last weekend and let me tell u..... not worth it! there’s a couple episodes that are like? okay? i guess? but mostly it’s just. terrible writing. sexism. homophobia. nonsensical plots. bad writing. more shitty writing. like. there’s some spoilers below so don’t click if u dont want spoilers but in case u want to know what’s going on (warning for spoilers and a huge wall of text):
there’s too much magic now so spells are going off the shits bc there’s so much magic. there’s a harmonic convergence coming up which will make magic go even MORE wild. a pig man from fillory shows up saying there’s going to be an apocalypse and he needs quentin to help. julia says oh shit sorry quentin’s dead but i can do it but the pig man says only STRONG MEN can do it so he fucks off to try and go find a man for the quest. julia decides to stop the apocalypse anyway, which she thinks is the harmonic convergence. so much fucking shit happens long story short they end up DESTROYING THE MOON. they crack the moon like an egg and eliot and margo get trapped in a timeloop caused by sentient whales practicing magic to keep the kraken at bay. margo gets out of the time loop leaving eliot who figures out what to do! and sends himself back in time to stop the moon from cracking. yay world saved. MEANWHILE IN FILLORY eliot and margo were thrown 300 years into fillorys future where the dark king rules. he’s got? fucking zombies or some shit hes “fighting”? i dont know i wasnt sober for half of this season. they’re hunting fairies. eliot talks about quentin in one (1) episode and cries a little before sending quentin a letter in the underworld. earlier in the episode he tried to fuck the dark king. after that he does not bring up quentin a single other time bc gay men do not get to have compelling love stories and he spends the rest of the season mooning after the dark king he met for 3 seconds before deciding actually HES the love of his life, not quentin. fen and josh are dead in the past and margo and eliot change the timeline like three times to save fen and josh! wow yay! also they can’t save quentin bc changing the timeline would be bad and disrespectful :( they can save fen and josh by altering the timeline though! at one point alice tries to make a golem of quentin to answer some questions about a page in a weird language she found in his desk but she brings back child quentin instead and he dies so it’s whatever. after the moon shit, they’re trying to find this seed that’s depicted on that page of quentin’s bc it’s the World Seed and can create whole new worlds! which is convenient bc turns out that apocalypse was NOT the apocalypse on earth but an apocalypse on fillory they think the dark king is gonna cause. turns out no, they’re going to cause it, they need to destroy fillory to stop the dark king from bringing back an army of the dead to bring back his gay lover bc gay mean are evil and bad >:( and before they destroy fillory they need to get all the fillorians in a pocket world and then put them on a new world they build with the world seed. so much shit happens i don’t even know. there’s a heist. there’s a musical episode that’s also the heist episode. eliot makes out with alice AND kady in this episode bc god likes to see me suffer. there’s a new chatwin! she’s great her name is plum and she can travel through time! she uses these time saving abilities to save hyman- you know, the really sexist perverted ghost that spies on people? yeah well she saves him. even though the narrative forbids saving quentin, they can save that fucking guy. julia is pregnant with penny 23′s baby but it’s a Super Pregnancy bc it’s red monkey month in fillory which means it goes faster. and she’s getting affected by the baby’s abilities to travel and be Psychic. fucking charlton is there he was still in eliot’s head the whole time and he gets out of eliot’s head to bother eliot but no one else can see him so they give him hyman’s body bc hyman wants to be a creepy ghost still. quentin gets brought up a few times but mostly to talk about how he ~sacrificed for those he loved~ or what the fuck ever and also to hammer in more quentin/alice like they didn’t have a like 3 month toxic relationship and he had a FIFTY YEAR RELATIONSHIP/MARRIAGE TO A MAN AND HAD AN ENTIRE CIHLD WITH HIM but ya know alice is the true love of his life bc they’re a man and a woman <3 <3 <3 the moon is sentient? i guess? there’s symbiotic aliens? fogg gets trapped in a magic acid induced drug alternate reality? and evil fogg from another timeline ends up coming through and fucking shit up? regular fogg gets back and has to hold a cat to stay sane bc all the insanity goes into a cat? fen, margo, ALICE?, and josh end up creating new fillory bc thats definitely the list of people that knew and loved fillory the most (definitely not eliot who was high king of fillory and sPENT 50 YEARS ON FILLORY WITH A HUSBAND AND SON no no he wouldn’t know about fillory), and disappear to their new fillory. the phrase “ovary up” is used no less than 7 times during the season and in the episode descriptions. kady’s barely mentioned as to what she’s doing post finale. eliot is a professor now and oh in the last FOUR FUCKING MINUTES WITH NO BUILD UP charlton kisses him and they go upstairs to fuck <3 the dark king was getting catfished by his brother martin btw bc the dark king is actually rupert chatwin and he ends up in a time bubble with jane and that’s fine while martin gets trapped in the library or some shit i don’t know. oh and plover is still alive and doing relatively fine compared to other characters who are like, dead. fen sympathizes with him isn’t that nice. there were at least 5 different opportunites to bring quentin back and they didn’t bring quentin back or leave opportunity for that. it’s bad. santa shows up for a minute? alice gets her fingers cut off and sewn back on and can’t do magic w one hand now but she’s a master magician so it turns out fine. there’s a line about “her lunacy identifies as she/her” talking about the moon, as if the magicians has any room to make pronoun jokes when they’ve had 2 trans characters that both died and weren’t even textually trans. at one point it turns out josh and fen fucked and margo tries to kill fen in a fit of jealousy and there’s a love triangle situation. fen is now a werewolf too btw. in conclusion! it fucking sucks.

Completely genuine question: are there any love interests for Barnes's characters that you actually like? I have yet to find anyone who I enjoy seeing him with, although Caspian/Susan were kind of sweet. But that could just be me. 😆
This is a good question! Let’s play.
Dunstan: I honestly can’t blame the woman... instead of trying to actually get help, she drags him into her tent? Cart? whatever? and has her way with him. You gotta get it where you can, and as far as one night stands go, this worked for me. (But having a kid... yikes)
Caspian: I think that all of the Pevensie children are terrible (with the exception of Edmund) ... and I think Susan is INSUFFERABLE. I don’t mind Anna Popplewell, but I don’t think that Susan was a good fit for him, and I think the kiss was unnecessary. Liliandil makes more sense; she’s “Narnian” in the sense that she’s not from another realm/world/reality.
Dorian: Sibyl... meh. They were never on the same page. Emily ... I think he actually cared for her (as much as he could) but I don’t like Rebecca Hall as an actress much.
Young Man: I think that with Celia, Ben was really, really good. I felt the pain that both of them felt, and this was really hard to watch because it felt real. I liked this relationship a lot, even though there wasn’t a ton to it in the way there would have/could have been if this timeline was the main focus of the movie.
Ryan Brenner: Jackie Laurel could have gotten fully run over and flattened by that truck and then replaced in rest of the movie with a sock on a stick and it would have made more sense to me than Ryan with her. I HATE Katherine Heigl, but I honestly think that with the way that role was written, I would have hated Jackie no matter who played her... but KH just made it so much worse.
Tom Ward: Alright, so Alicia Vikander rubs me the wrong way. She was a NIGHTMARE on the set of Tomb Raider, and she just seems very young and very immature to me. I liked the idea of Tom and a witch together, because they were so different and wanted very different things... but Alice was never really defined enough as a character for me to give her a chance past that.
John Whittaker: Alright, so this may surprise you... but I actually liked him with Jessica Biel. They seemed to play very well off of each other, and their relationship was genuine. I think a lot of it comes with watching this movie so many times and knowing that JB played it exactly as she needed to - he was never going to be IT for her, but she thought he could be enough. John/Sarah I was not a fan of, because the way she looked at him was just a mix of disappointment and envy all at the same time, and I didn’t appreciate that at all, even though Charlotte Riley was a very pretty woman.
Josh: This movie was a fucking disaster, first of all. While I didn’t like him with either woman much in terms of characters, I think the edge has to go to Eliza Dusku. Sarah Roemer couldn’t act her way out of a wet paper bag, and even though the dialogue is super cringey between Josh and Renee and the sex scenes are worse... they physically LOOK nice together.
Neil: The most lovable walking disaster EVER, I actually really liked him with Krysten Ritter. I think they complimented each other, and it was a fun story to tell. It’s hard to step away from him as this character, I think, but Gloria tried her damndest.
Alejandro: I.... don’t like Amanda Seyfried much, because I feel like she plays the same character in every single thing she’s in... and TBW is no different. This movie was a mess, too, and I realize that everyone was just working with what they had, but there was no chemistry there.
Nick Tortano: Alright, so the “quiet game” scene is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE BEN BARNES SCENES in any movie or show he’s ever been in. I think Allie was a good match for him, because she made him realize in a very short amount of time that there could be more to life than The Family. I liked their interactions, and the way that they could play off of each other and make it believable.
Stoya: .... Ben Barnes and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were SO GOOD together. It was barely 10 minutes of screen time, and... it was GREAT. I really like her (what up Jessica Bennett from Harmony) and I really like him, and I think that they have just the right type of connection and I would have loved to see more of the two of them because I need to know WHERE IS STOYA!?!!?
Logan: .... Ben Barnes standing next to Talulah Riley was SOMETHING ELSE. They’re both gorgeous, and while she wasn’t an actual LOVE interest... they made a good pair. I’d also cut off my left arm (I’m left handed) to see him kiss Clementine, because Angela Sarafyan is a GODDESS.
Billy: Out of Dinah and Krusty, obviously I think he had more chemistry with Dinah, but I still didn’t like it because of what they tried to make it be. If it’s just two consenting adults using each other for sex and information, it’s one thing, but they tried to make it seem as if Billy was the only deceptive one. Based on LOOKS, I think ARR is pretty, but I don’t think she looks good WITH BB. Dumont... I don’t like FL at all, so I wasn’t even a fan of the CASTING, let alone what they did with her and Ben’s characters.
Benjamin: If you were in the room with me just now as I typed that, you would have heard and seen me let out the biggest sigh in the entire world. Ben Barnes and a geriatric psychopath (I don’t mind Julia Ormond, but they had her looking ROUGH in Gold Digger) is not appealing in the slightest to me. I get that they were trying to make it seem ***real*** like love could conquer all and  that it would be realistic that someone that looked like HIM would settle for someone that looked like HER ... but I never felt it. She was not a likable character, and there were a lot of times he wasn’t, either... but I felt ZERO sympathy for Julia Day in ANY episode of that show, while Benjamin’s story (and the way Ben played it) was the one where all of the feeling was kept. Benjamin had more chemistry with Julia’s friend Marsha in five minutes... and that’s sad.
This probably wasn’t at all what you were looking for, but, here you go.  Bonus: Here are five actresses that I think Ben would be GREAT acting opposite of/having an onscreen romance with
- Charlize Theron
- Lizzy Caplan
- Yvonne Strahovski
- Phoebe Tonkin
- Odette Yustman

On the HIMYM Finale + Deleted Scenes (rewatch)
On my hate of Ted’s relapse in season 7:
Rewatching HIMYM and of course, I’m sad again at how much I loved it sans Ted’s suddenly thinking he’s in love with Robin again after Drunk Train. It pisses me off so much, and which there were comments on how it made sense because Ted was just so down on himself that he had stooped so low as to try to get girls on the train and be so far away from his goal—I would have believed that but the ensuing episodes definitely show this wasn’t the case. Drunk Train was season 7 episode 16. They broke up at the end of season 2 and only had a heart to heart about how difficult the break up was a few episodes later, and casual sex along with screaming and anger mid season 3. Never once in between does Ted actually like her again except when Barney wanted her and he read his letter—which I’ll account for as him being down and logically and/or nostalgically thinking they would work again, rather than current feelings. I would have wanted him to be depressed because being around happy people or people that he’s jealous of or something, because that’s relatable and understandable. But him being upset that Robin was marrying someone that wasn’t him when she never expressed being in romantic love with him for the past 6 years just makes me despise Ted. And I don’t despise him, but when I take a step back, that act makes me really hate him. And like.... Ross in Friends was a horrible human. I cannot vouch for him in that he wanted to be a good human—Ross thought he was a good human when he wasn’t. But Ted really did want to be a good human. And it upsets me that this is where the line is drawn, where he believes he deserves Robin more than Barney, more than anyone, when she never showed interest in him again.
---------------------------------------
A brief touch on my hate of Robin’s character in love:
I don’t hate Robin as a human or a character in general. But I severely hate how she was the writers’ ultimate princess on a pedestal and never thought about how she’s not a prize, but she needs to work for happiness. Never once does she work for any of her relationships. She’s incredibly selfish—and hey, that’s fine because I am and all humans are to a degree, but she’s not allowed to stay selfish and get any and every happy ending. That pisses me off to no end. I agree with the people that say Robin didn’t deserve Ted—but in reality, it was more that Ted deserved better. She never made any grand gesture for Ted or Barney when they both tried to give her anything and everything they had. I’m unsure if in any relationship she put herself on the line. I think after Don, she stopped. I think Don got the best of her, but Don didn’t quite treat her well. Kevin was the best match for her because he helped simmer her crazy and he could be a little crazier with her, but really she didn’t offer anything consciously.
She was unwilling to compromise in season 2, and she never changed throughout—she only revealed parts of her that she kept hidden. The writers made her sane and insane, kind and cruel, and every other paradox so she could fit into anything they wanted and seem rounded out even when she wasn’t. The writers kept her as this ideal girl and never understood that girls can have character development too. (Not that anyone besides Barney really had character development—which is also why everyone was rooting for him, not Ted.) The things she’d give up for Barney, she never cared about. The dogs she gave up for Ted in season 2 were her only attempt at dipping her toes in the water, but then the writers just never made her swim again (not that she should have given away her dogs for Ted). As the series progressed, it felt like she didn’t care about anything. That’s why she was consistently able to swing into a new relationship on the same day after a breakup. Because they made Robin sane enough, no one had to doubt her love and she never had to prove it. But now it all seems like a desperate girl who is afraid to be alone and has no idea what she wanted (continued in next section).
-----------------------------------------
On the deleted Robin x Ted lunch finale scene in 2020 and how it impacts the ending:
Josh Radnor said he hoped the writers kept that in the finale because it showed that Ted wasn’t always pining for Robin when he was with Tracy, and that Robin loved and was thinking about Ted as much if not more. I agree with the first part, definitely not the latter.
Before I discuss how I interpreted that scene, here is how I interpret the two endings of HIMYM vs the ideals of the fans (from my perspective).
The ending where Tracy dies and Ted gets with Robin at the end:
Pros:
The fan theory that maybe this is a happy ending because Tracy gets to be with Max in Heaven, Ted and Robin (and Ted got the kids he wanted and Robin got her career), and Barney and his daughter.
I guess the writers get to use their original footage, but like that doesn’t really warrant a number.
Cons:
Like Josh Radnor said, it makes it seem like Ted was in love with Robin even when he was with Tracy.
Season 8 and 9 were a total bust and a LOT of the footage and most meaningful and dramatic scenes (absolutely EVERYTHING WITH TED) were a WASTE of viewer emotion. Like I legitimately regret giving any fucks about Ted’s emotions, that lying sonuvabitch.
If it is meant to be like Robin and Ted are soul mates and belong together, the ENTIRE SEASON 3-9 made the fans believe that either 1. NO THEY’RE NOT, or 2. soul mates are STUPID and a LIE and not as amazing as Lily and Marshall made it seem. And if not, then it perpetuates that soul mates aren’t a thing.
It makes it seem that if a guy pines after a girl enough, he’ll fucking get her eventually. No one on the face of at least Democratic America wants white guys to get that message, wtf.
By perpetuating Pro #1, it further makes Tracy to be a vehicle for Ted’s children and not really anything else. Kinda ties into Con #1.
The ending where Tracy is alive (actually this doesn’t matter to me) where Robin and Ted don’t get together at the end:
Pros:
The hope and dream and ideal that a soul mate (Tracy) exists at the end of the suffering—the thing that made Ted such a good protagonist—lives on. And is finally accomplished. And we can be happy for Ted, while believing in love and life ourselves. (This is the main fucking point, in contrast to Con #3 of the previous end.)
The reassurance that even if you think you’re in love now and it’s not working out, one day, you’ll GET THE FUCK OVER IT
The hope that all the love you give out will be reciprocated (this is different than #1 for me simply based on Tracy’s personality, rather than the fact that Ted ended up with someone that wasn’t Robin. Because Tracy was kind to him and wanted to make Ted happy. Robin never tried to make Ted happy, she just rolled with the punches.)
The fact that the drumroll, the build up, the suspense of the story led to actual grandeur and a happy end, and not a fake out like the other ending. (Different from the above because this is simply the storyline, and how this way wouldn’t be like a “haha, [the ending] was in front of you the entire time!”)
Cons:
No footage of the kids?
No non-sappy way to end that doesn’t make everyone hate the writers?
No reason why Ted is telling this story to his kids?
Like honestly, while sappy, there is no con to a happy ending
Now, let’s retrace the first betrayal ending with the dinner scene:
Pros:
Yes, it does look like Ted loved Tracy / didn’t pine after Robin in his head. And yes, this was something that killed everyone in the finale and thus was a big thing.
If Ted x Robin occurs, you still get the Pro #1 fan theory.
Cons:
It doesn’t look like Robin was in love with Ted even if she admits to thinking about him. It instead just looks like she regretted her life and selfishly wanted him because he treated her well, even when she never had any intention of giving him what he wanted.
Also the awkward thing about Robin kinda trying to get him back when he has a family and alive wife at that point in time.
If this continued with the Robin x Ted thing, it doesn’t really make it seem that Ted was head over heels magically in love with Tracy during this time. His quote, “Happiness is when you stop thinking about the ifs,” would instead be interpreted as if he settled and didn’t want any risks. And, considering he met her after Robin was married, and had kids with her while Robin was still married, this would further incriminate that thought.  Happiness is not love, but the stability of knowing that this relationship... is stable. Ted, despite having cheated on Victoria when she was in Germany with Robin, has never struck me as a cheater. He has always struck me, even in the lowest and crappiest and sleaziest of times, as someone who wanted to treasure the people around him. The fact that he was unnerved by Robin’s confession because he had Tracy and his family did not feel to me that it was because he loved Tracy, but because it was stable, it was his, and he had stopped thinking about Robin when she wasn’t there.
If Ted x Robin get together still, a la Con #1, I cannot be happy for them. Why? What the writer showed us in the original is that Ted has always pined for Robin. This lunch scene was supposed to dispose of that. But, then, it becomes that Robin wants Ted and Ted is like “I always cared about her and it’s been 6 years and I’m lonely.” And yes, this is much better than the original betrayal ending. But it’s still not a happy ending. Ted gets with her because he’s lonely, not because she’s the “one” anymore. And no one cares about that (and it’ll always be overshadowed by the ANNOYANCE OF TED IN SEASON 8-9). Robin gets together with Ted because she’s lonely, regrets many things in her life, and she knows Ted would treat her well (despite never self-reflecting that she doesn’t offer him anything because he always blindly accepted everything about her). That’s not a happy ending, nor an ending worth giving my feelings for, though admittedly more satisfactory than the original.
Overall, the show is supposed to be about how he meets the mother. How he meets his wife. How he falls in love with her. The audience is wanting to watch him fall in love. And after so many seasons of him being alone, the build up becomes grander. We want to believe that at the end of the tunnel is salvation. That this relatable, kind character will be blessed with happiness and love equal or greater to what he’s given. We like the character, and we want him to be happy. And he was never happy pining after Robin. We want to relate to his struggles, but we want him to be rewarded. We want to believe we too will be rewarded. The original ending didn’t do that. I can’t understand how anyone doesn’t understand the backlash after properly watching the show (and being a sane romantic, which should be the prime audience of this show).
So no, I will never forgive that ending.
-------------------------------
And just because I’m ranting,
On what I think about Robin and Barney.
I honestly don’t care if they stayed married or not. Married doesn’t solve problems between a couple. I don’t like them getting divorced from a conservative perspective, but I also don’t see them doing well in the construct of marriage (which also goes for Robin and Ted, but Robin was always portrayed as sane when with Ted. Though really, she would suck at marriage and kids. When she was with Ted, it was literally just sex. And her being his roommate showed that all non-lust side was incompatible. But I digress).
But, I dislike that the finale gave Barney a daughter as a band-aid and made it seem all right.
I can imagine Robin and Barney always fighting. I can imagine it going as far as a divorce. But I can’t imagine it getting to a point where Barney stops trying and stops caring. Because he tried throughout the seasons and he couldn’t. Why, when he gets her, would he stop. Robin never tried, and I can see her falling out of love because she’s incapable of loving (at least for everyone after Don), only of accepting love and using them as a crutch. But Barney really tried and season 8 showed it in tangible measures. While I understand that a one-way street will eventually reach a dead-end (actually I don’t think that’s true, but for the sake of a lack of a better metaphor), the fact that at that point Robin didn’t step it up makes me hate any ending that would end up with her and Ted even more. Yes, Barney was a pig. But he was able to win over the audience into making us believe that he is capable of loving someone. And Robin never did.
I can imagine Barney giving Robin space if she asked, which includes the divorce. But to try to convince us, the audience, into believing that he stopped loving her and stopped showing it in his side glances and gentle grins pisses me the fuck off. I don’t need them married, I don’t need them constantly together. But they’re a couple where I trust Barney to keep going back to as home.
Also that daughter thing—while cute in theory, Barney had an episode about his previous wing bro having knocked up a girl and being a father and it destroying his personality. I can really only imagine this as being how it winds up. I do think Barney would be a good father. And I do think that if Barney is with Robin, he would not have that chance. But I also think that Barney would always love Robin more than enough to be willing to give that up. Unlike Ted, I believe Barney if he said he’d be willing to give it all up without regretting it for the rest of his life. I hate that Barney wasn’t allowed to remain the metamorphosed character at the end of all of his character development. They had to revert all the things to give him a daughter. They didn’t even give him some sort of back story to how the hell he could fuck up the protection when he had sex with over 200 girls without issues. Yeah I’m salty about the shitty and inconsistent writing/storytelling.
----------------------------
On whether I care if Tracy dies:
Not too much, because I understand that things happen. It does make me sad if we are made to think she and Ted are soulmates, only for her to die early. While I do agree that her early death and making Max her soul mate does sound cute, I refuse to believe for eternity that Robin was Ted’s soul mate, so leaving Ted without a soul mate would also piss me off about this story and basically Ted would be equivalent as Barney knocking up someone, but with a nanny that happens to be the mother of the children. So the answer is no because then we need to destroy the concept of soul mates. So this is why I would like Tracy to live, though I’m not mad at her dying.
Obviously from a storytelling perspective, it would be weird for Ted to tell his kids his whole dating history just to finally skim through his meeting with the mother and she is still alive. But really we gave no shits about why Ted was discussing all these pointless things to his kids, so that continuity isn’t needed if it destroys our hopes and ideals.
If she’s alive, it makes more sense for Ted to talk about the courtship with the mother. If she’s dead, the only reason for him to discuss all his courtships with all the other women would be..... well, in theory it makes sense to show that he’s always loved Robin, too bad that didn’t properly translate in the actual show post season 3 (like really, Robin would have needed to interfere in every relationship Ted had for it to be relevant to the betrayal ending, but that stopped after Stella and there would need to be a time skip to Victoria with inbetweens of Barney x Robin, but ultimately most of Robin’s love life could be omitted. Seriously, if that was the reason Ted was telling the story, then his storytelling skills are shit and he should be at least 65 and retired because his mind is going). And to tell the story just to be like  “I wanna date again” is also nonsense. Basically, all routes are nonsense. Shoulda just scrapped the purpose of Ted telling his sordid past into just him telling a story. Also, getting the kid actors as adults is still hilarious so I think people wouldn’t mind the kids’ continuity over a better ending.

How I Would Classify the Characters as Yanderes
Before I begin this post would not be possible without a very interesting and in-depth post by @thisisallthehattersfault which you can find here! The post basically breaks down the yandere archetype into little subsections which I used as classifications here. Really, I can’t recommend this post enough, so please check out that (and maybe give the account a little love while you’re at it!)
Delusional
Kamski, Delusional
A bit of a creative choice here, but considering how the delusional yandere would expect their love to actually return their affections or at least to come around to answering the feelings. This sounds eerily similar to the way one with an inflated sense of self-worth would feel entitled to others' love and affection.
Even though Kamski genuinely feels that there's no one else in your life who would fall who you would fall for instead of him, that doesn't mean he won't keep you on a tight leash. So don't plan on ever trying to leave his home or staying in contact with others.
It's difficult for Elijah to process the idea that other people are important enough to you to risk and escape attempt to see them again. Though in his mind, Elijah would attribute that irrational decision on the large change in your life rather than because you actually like another more than him.
Despite all his entitlement, though, you must know Elijah would do anything for you and would sacrifice so much to keep you happy. His fault is in his own failure to properly articulate this love, not in the lack thereof.
Ralph, Delusional
It's pretty understandable to put Ralph here, considering he's easily the most detached and unhinged character in the game itself. This fundamental disconnect with reality a tragic result of his own trauma on account of the torture he endured at the hands of humans that fateful night. The way his mind was so entirely rattled by the whole affair completely broke his mind and as a result, his actions forever.
The tragic way Ralph broke leaves him unable to really understand the world around him, to put it bluntly. When Ralph falls for you, he's so utterly in love with you he can't imagine why you wouldn't love him back. After all, you knew he'd already been through so much there's just no way someone as wonderful and lovely as you would ever try to break his heart like this.
Because of this brazen assuredness of your love, Ralph won't be afraid to openly act very cuddly and physically close to with you. Again because of the way his mind was broken so long ago, Ralph is permanently living in his own world and will do his best to provide and care for you as a husband should.
If you were to try and leave him or runaway Ralph wouldn't understand your choice, and it's certain he would be very angry about all this he wouldn't necessarily be angry at you. He wouldn't understand and, more so than anything, would feel more confused than betrayed here.
Semi-Delusional
North, Semi-Delusional
North's feelings of attraction regarding you are unexplainable and completely counter her personal creed to make all humans pay for the cruelty she endured at their hands. Though, deep within her heart of hearts, North knows there's no way she could ever bring herself to believe she hates you.
Despite being a pessimist in most aspects of her life, North can't help but feel a kind of love and warmth around you she's never known from another before. And due to this and experience with love, North can't help but go entirely overboard.
Unfortunately for her, just as the highs of her love for you are, so it goes for the lows. The fear of others getting in her way and the insecurity of losing you to another partner is also all of them were strong. Resulting and her unable to hold back when dealing with any possible rivals.
It's only once North comes down from these intense emotional outbursts that she realizes it's not wise to fall so hard for someone. Though these moments of clarity seldom last before being replaced with another intense wave of emotion.
Chloe, Semi-Delusional
She's far more grounded in reality than Ralph is. But Chloe is actually somewhat similar to Ralph on account of how unlikely it is she would feel guilty for keeping you in such a forceful and restrictive relationship.
Make no mistake. Chloe is not stupid; in fact, Chloe is somewhat unique in her own right because I'm like many characters; she is intelligent in a people-based sense. She can read people well has good intuition Etc.
A Small difference maybe but would result in her using her sharp and always attentive intuition to sense your personal boundaries and would never be so physically pushy as Ralph would.
She wants you to be comfortable around her at all times, primarily focused on getting you to genuinely love her back despite the situation and will be far less unpredictable around you as Ralph would.
Selective
Markus, Selective
So for Markus, it's challenging for him to fully understand the way he feels about you for so many reasons. Markus knows he loves you unconditionally more so than he's ever loved before he grapples heavily with the fact it's unlikely and maybe impossible for you to feel the same way. Still, Markus is ready to use his passion to determine choices.
It's difficult for him to deal with the frustrations of loving someone so much and of knowing they're the world to you only for you to not reciprocate his affections. Unfortunately for you, if you're not careful, Markus might physically take these frustrations out on you, given the opportunity.
Markus might also smother you in a way and cling to you like a life preserver. As the one thing, he knows he can keep all to himself in a world that erupts and changes every day around him. Out of all the yanderes, Markus would be one of the worst to try and escape from as he would clean the hardest and physically fight back with a passion.
The only thing which would be more dangerous than trying to escape would be trying to confide in another that you fear Marcus to be a corrupt leader. Or to try and convince a third party to try and team up with you to eliminate Markus. Then you won't be the only one to feel Markus' wrath, and the latter may be made of a public example.
Josh, Selective
It's challenging to place Josh as someone very clouded by idealism or entirely realistic because of that Josh fits comfortably in the middle. (Which is ironic considering he's supposed to represent total pacifist options, but still.)
Josh is likely someone who if he senses, there's even a chance you're beginning to show signs of coming around to returning his affections it would really trigger his inner idealist. He wouldn't help but double down on his controlling behavior and would become all the more smothering now that he believes that there is genuine love in your heart.
Overall it's safer to say Josh all around is more grounded and less intense as a yandere. Even though it's tough for him to deal with the overall intensity of his feelings, he wouldn't physically hurt you for not returning his affections.
Additionally, if you do find yourself able to overlook his darker impulses and actions and genuinely work to return his feelings, Josh might just become one of the easiest yanderes to reform into a wholesome normal relationship.
Semi-Lucid
Connor: Semi Lucid
While it makes so little sense to him to ever fully embrace and love someone who leaves and feeling so unsure and unable to process things effectively. Connor can't deny the love and warmth he feels around you and comparing that to the cold reality of the rest of his life? This leaves him the weaker.
It's hard for Connor to wholly lean into these feelings of love though considering the probability of you actually returning his feelings. Much less to the same extent as him. Because of this, he desperately fears of being discovered.
Though he's afraid of you discovering the dark reality of his true intentions, that doesn't mean he would hesitate to eliminate any possible rivals behind your back.
It's not something Connor would want to do. Still, he is likely also the kind of yandere who would hurt or physically incapacitate you if it meant keeping you close. Even though he knows this won't make you like him anymore.
Hank, Semi-Lucid
The chief word to characterize this yandere type is Escapist. Considering how long now Hank's lived such a dim and joyless life, it makes too much sense he would do anything to hold onto this joy. Even if that means acting against his best interest.
It also adds up Hank, the person who's lived in such a dark place for so long now would be much less averse to crossing boundaries of what most would consider acceptable and a regular loving relationship. Now that he really feels he has something to lose, its all more important that he keeps you.
Just because Hank knows he wouldn't hesitate to get his hands dirty if it meant keeping you protected, it's not to say he's proud of this, and he is much more aware of how you'd react if you found out.
Likely Hank would use any moments of aggressive protectiveness between the two of you as just a part of his usual rough exterior. Furthermore, he wouldn't really act softer or more loving towards you unless it was only the two of you alone and would react largely the same in groups in efforts to keep a low profile or to prevent others from getting suspicious
Daniel, Semi-Lucid
Even though he's not the most out of his mind is in love with you at first. It mostly resulted on account of a particularly harsh rejection, which would cause Daniel to lose his mind and do something regrettable.
Moreover, Daniel would absolutely be more prone to insecurity or jealousy regarding your relationship with others. This is going to remain the same whether you tell him you love him back or not. It's something so deeply ingrained in his persona he's long since lost the ability to control this.
The kind of person to very quickly catch himself nearly losing his mind falling in love with someone he's only recently met. It's almost animalistic of him to pounce on this person before they potentially leave him or are taken by another. Heavily relies on you to help him to maintain his self-control and leave him feeling assured, so he isn't provoked to do something rash. Daniel isn't afraid to show you how dangerous he is and what he's capable of, even if this runs the risk of frightening you.
Lucid
Nines, Lucid
Genuinely has the most transparent grasp on reality when compared to his fellow yanderes. Not that interesting but, consider this means Nines is likely aware you don't actually love him back, and acting in such a hostile manner isn't helping.
It sounds rather paradoxical. Why would someone act in a way they know won't actually bring them and their loved any closer together? Perhaps Nines only gets so lethal to ensure no one gets close to you is because he sees himself as your guardian angel. This is tough love keeping other people away from you.
Despite how much Nines believes he's in the right here, he still would likely try to hide his actions from you. At least acknowledging that if you find a reason to fear him, you might report his behavior or distance yourself in some other way. Given his spot was track record, though, it wouldn't be difficult for 9 to brush off suspicions as false.
All things considered though, even Ninesmight slip up every now and then and finds his cool exterior slipping as he fails to maintain control of a situation if something were to really trigger his jealousy or give him a reason to cause harm.
Selfish
Zlatko, Selfish
Unlike most other yanderes who would identify love or infatuation as a real key to the relationship, Zlatko is more the type to want to keep you forever by his side and locked away within his abode because of a feeling of interest.
Not at all dissimilar to the way a scientist would fix it compulsively over their test subject or a painter over their muse, Zlatko finds a sick and almost perverse inspiration to you. The kind of fascination which makes him want to test on you to keep everything about you to himself.
He may not identify the connection between two of you as that of love, but it's wrong to say he feels no kind of fondness for you whatsoever. It's just that he has a questionable way of showing it. And the most important thing which has Zlatko pegged as a selfish type is his inability to care for your needs.
The idea of letting you go free or ever return to normal life is virtually impossible for him to imagine. Without you forever in his possession, Zlatko couldn't imagine living in such an unsatisfying home.
Gavin, Selfish
To be entirely honest, it's tough to imagine a sadistic kind of yandere anywhere but here in the ranking. When it comes to Gavin, the type of sadist who derives such a primal satisfaction in your misery. Nowhere but here is fitting.
One of the only people who likely wouldn't be deterred in the slightest that you don't actually like him back. Why should he care? It's not like you have any kind of power in the relationship anyway. So long as you know who belong to, that was all the affirmation he needed. While he's not exactly a control freak or anything like that, Gavin undeniably wants from you in a relationship is the feeling that you are powerless to save yourself while under his control.
Almost like he wants other people to try and get involved. That way, he'll have an excuse to entirely lose it on another person, of course, he wouldn't feel any remorse for this and on account of his cruel nature.
Selfless
Kara, selfless
Yep, that's right guys, you never would have guessed! But the Android programmed to act as a motherly figure to those she serves is the most likely of the yanderes to hyper fixate your well-being.
Overprotective to a fault, Kara really would do whatever she could to keep you happy and safe while in her care. So much so that you might not even know she holds any feelings of romantic affection towards you at all. Really thinking her love ends with your physical well-being.
The tip-off that causes you to think there might be more on her mind than just keeping you safe is Kara's distrust whenever you choose to spend time with other people over her. You do your best to explain to her that there's no reason to be suspicious, but still, something's not right with her.
But Kara does know it's probably for your best if she allows you to keep in contact with other people. However, the one thing that she won't allow is for you to think any of these people are more important than her or could ever replace her.
Luther, Selfless
This reflects a rather tragic aspect of who Luther is as a person deep down, rather than the choices he would make as a yandere in all honesty. Mostly because Luther has only known selfless unforgiving relationships with those around him, rather than ones of mutual love.
He no doubt would dream about one day, as far away as that might be, finding a beautiful idyllic relationship with you. But it feels almost too good to be true. There would be a part of Luther nearly too afraid to even dream of this, the rejection would simply hurt too much. Leaving him with almost unimaginable pain.
In the meantime, though, Luther would be more than happy to share a relationship with you, which is more discreet, but still, just as emotional. It would be a little difficult for someone as inexperienced as Luther to express his affections naturally. But this would likely manifest in him doing his best to be as gentle around you as possible, and giving you no plausible reason to fear him.
It would be much more difficult for him to remain so sweet and softspoken around any of your friends and family you wish to keep in your life though. So that maybe something you want to keep in mind here.
(Hi editing max here! I literally finished writing and editing this only to realize AFTER the fact I forgot to add Simon to this list, so consider this just a first draft, and when I go through with a second edit I’ll add him in as well. Thank you for reading, please follow this account I was unfairly terminated at 1.1k and now I’m starting back from scratch. :,))
