You didn’t hate Ellie Williams, not in the slightest.
In fact, when you first met the girl you were impressed by her nonchalant attitude and how quickly she adjusted to life in Jackson. You admired the bond she shared with her companion, Joel - the closeness they shared, the softness of his voice when he spoke to her, the glint in her eyes when she looked at him. That didn’t mean you missed the way she stared off distantly in her free time, or the way she would talk to others with a certain tiredness in her voice; but it wasn’t like you could talk to her about it.
You weren’t friends with her. Well, not anymore.
Ellie and you were friends when she first arrived, you made sure of it. You were always bringing her things to make the adjustment easier: blankets, sweaters, new socks, ammunition, and a new hairbrush, among other things. She was grateful for it at first, always thanking you, hunting you down for movie nights, and inviting you over for dinner with Joel. But at some point you messed up - you did something wrong.
She slowly began to ignore you, she started returning your home-baked goods and stopped inviting you to her house to watch movies. She started to talk to you just as cold as she talked to the others. She didn’t like you anymore.
Eventually, probably tired of your haphazard attempts to fix your friendship, she snapped. You left her house in tears that day with your head down, shoulders hunched and wobbly, trying to cover the tear streaks with your hair.
Ever since you’d tried to ignore her, her words, and the wounds they made. It was hard when she consumed your every waking thought. You thought about Ellie all the time - what you did wrong, the way her hair bounced as she walked, what you said to make her hate you, that one time at dinner she accidentally choked on water and spit it out her nose, the look in her eyes as she yelled in your face, all of the science stuff she had hidden away in every crevice of her room.
Every thought you had about Ellie contradicted the other and it was all so confusing that every time you thought too hard about it your head spun.
So you quickly found yourself doing simple, menial tasks to keep your thoughts at bay. You were picking up every patrol you were allowed, volunteering at the daycare to help your mom care for the kiddos, spending any and all free time at your friends houses instead of yours. You always finished your house chores early in the morning, always walked your neighbors dog once before noon and once after, always doing whatever you could to stay out of your own mind.
So you forgot about Ellie - as best as you could, at least.
It almost worked, too. Five years you got away with it, hiding from your mind and from Ellie. Until today, the one day you had been dreading for years. The day you knew was coming.
You were partnered with Ellie for patrol.
At first, you'd spent the first three hours complaining to your friends - Jesse mostly ignored you, only cracking jokes here or there, and Dina just didn't understand why you hated Ellie so bad. Eventually you just gave in and stopped complaining, finding some solace under the heavy duvet on your bed.
Before Dina left your home she gave you a warm smile and said, "You're gonna do great." And then left you to your own devices, not realizing she was leaving you to rot in your own brain.
When the time came to get up and get ready, you found yourself picking through your clothes, trying to find the cleanest shirt to wear and the pants that fit you the best. You wanted to look nice, most people would, but you weren't sure if it was for you or for her.
You walked nervously towards the stables, taking firm, heavy breaths as you shoved your hands into your jacket pockets.
"It'll be okay... It'll be okay," you chanted the words under your breath as you neared the stables, clenching and unclenching your sweaty fists.
When you arrived, Ellie was already leading Shimmer along to the exit, hardly glancing at you.
"You're late." She said, sucking on her teeth.
You nodded slowly, inhaling sharply, "I am aware..." speaking slowly and cautiously, trying not to poke the bear. "I kind of have my own stuff, though," the pitch of your voice raised slightly, as if you were unsure of your own words, "so I got here as fast as I could."
She scoffed, her head shaking slightly which sends her short strands of hair bouncing around her ears. "Just get the fucking horse."
You walked off hastily, unfurling Japan's reigns - when Dina didn't take him out, you did, because you both liked to make sure he had enough exercise everyday. You walked him down to meet Ellie at the gate.
Ellie was standing on one foot, shifting her weight every now and then and rubbing her palms down the length of her thighs; almost as if she was rubbing something off of them. She rubbed her thumbs on Shimmer's reigns nervously, head darting back and forth to see if you were close or not.
When you came into her line of sight, she hardened up and stood taller. Her face sharpened and her eyes filled with the same distance that kept you up at night, though today they also harbored another emotion, one you were no longer privy with.
It filled you with a sense of confusion and dread, causing you to mumble incoherently under your breath.
"Fucking Williams... cold as shit... pain in my ass..." you muttered as you mounted your horse.
Giving you one last weary look, Ellie also mounted her horse. She pulled her fingers through her hair, tucking it back behind her ear as the two of you left Jackson.
The horses trotted slowly, easily stepping over the tree roots in the ground as if they had the whole route memorized.
For you, this was one of the few routes you hardly visited. It wasn't too far from Jackson, but it was just far enough that you knew it'd take up the rest of your day.
As your eyes danced between the trail ahead of you and Ellie beside you, you didn't know what to think.
Sure, you'd thought of all the ways you would yell at her and all the things you'd say if you ever got the chance again; but you'd also thought of all the ways you'd make it up to her, all the things you wanted to say to let her know you weren't the same person you used to be.
What did it matter, anyway?
You were stuck here, letting your old wounds sit and fester in the bitterness of it all. You were stuck here, next to her but unable to fill the empty silence with words. You were stuck here, on patrol with the one person who hates your guts and you couldn't do anything about it.
"It's not polite to stare, you know."
Her voice echoed through the dense trees, bouncing off branches and leaves only to worm its way back into your brain.
"I'm sorry?" you hummed, caught off guard by the sound.
Her head slightly turned in your direction and Shimmer slowed down to a light trot, matching Japan's speed. "It's not polite to stare."
Her words were much sharper the second time around, with much more emphasis placed upon them.
She's angry. Amazing. You scoffed to yourself, trying to keep hold of your composure.
"I wasn't staring..." you paused. You almost said her name, but the word caught in your throat. "At you. I wasn't staring at you."
She glanced at you sideways before she continued, "you were."
"Was not!"
"Were too."
"I wasn't staring-!"
There it was again. You'd almost said her name, but it got caught in the back of your throat, which left you to haphazardly cut off your sentence and leave her hanging, waiting for it.
She scoffed. "Yes, you were."
You closed your mouth and pressed your lips into a line, "I wasn't fucking staring at you, Williams."
"So you stare at me, deny it when I tell you it's impolite, and then can't even use my name?" She stopped her horse, leaning back in the saddle as she spoke.
And the words get caught in your throat. Your mouth dried as you slowed your own horse.
"I used your name," you whispered, blinking away the wetness in your eyes.
She laughed sourly, pulled on Shimmer's reigns and began to trot ahead of you again.
You sighed at the bitterness brewing in the pit of your stomach. You certainly fucked that up - but was it entirely your fault? Surely some of that had to go to Ellie too - I mean she's the one who broke off your friendship... she's the one who yelled at you for "staring." You weren't staring in the first place... right?
You began to question yourself, yet again, as Ellie spoke up once more.
"You're still staring."
And suddenly it's almost as if you could hear the smirk she had on her face.
"Could you fucking not? Please? I'm just trying to get to the tower and go home alive. I don't want to deal with this bullshit too."
"Stop fucking staring then," she whipped around to face you. "I definitely didn't ask for this either, so stop being a baby and get over it."
You clenched your fists and brought one to your face, rubbing your eyes with your palm.
"I'm not staring at you, El-"
You stopped talking after you finally looked directly into her eyes, catching sight movement behind her.
She began to scoff but suddenly stopped as your face changed.
"What?"
"Shut up."
You tilted your head to the side, narrowing your eyes as you focused on a shadowy figure hidden in the trees.
The figure stilled under a long branch, the leaves creating long shadows which warped around the curves of the figure.
Slowly, you reached for the pistol strapped to your thigh. Ellie's face scrunched in a mix of confusion and worry.
"Don't," you breathed, "move."
At the sound of your sharp exhale the figure screeched and aimed for Ellie, its dark eyes fixated on her.
You brought the gun up, aiming and pulling the trigger as fast as you could, but the stalker was hardly affected by the single bullet.
Ellie whipped around, yelping once before the stalker jumped on her and yanked her off of Shimmer. The stalker pinned her to the ground, its teeth already bared and ready to bite.
You pulled the trigger again. And again. And again. Until eventually the stalker slumped down above Ellie.
She pushed it off and brought herself to her feet, head whipping around to look for others.
"Do you see any more?" you asked as you scanned the area.
She shook her head, "I don't think so... holy shit."
You both sat quietly for a moment as you tried to process what just happened.
"Thanks- thanks for uh, for that," she panted, mounting Shimmer again and looking around, "that was close."
For a moment you were rendered speechless, trying to piece the puzzle back together in your brain before responding. "Yeah... of course," you paused, adding lightly, "s'what friends do." It came out a little mumbled but you knew she heard it.
You didn't keep your eyes on hers long enough to gauge her reaction, but you figured it was one full of something negative. You looked up one last time and caught her eyes, the strangest look on her face, before turning back down and looking away.
"The tower's just up that way," you hesitated, waiting for her to say - or do - something. To do anything. But she didn't, so you continued, "there shouldn't be any more in the area, they just cleared it last week."
You shifted on the saddle, cringing slightly, urging Japan to move forward again.
The rest of your route went okay - you didn't encounter anymore infected and the area is mostly barren anyway so you didn't find anything worthwhile. The tower was cleared already, too, so you and Ellie mostly found solace in your own thoughts for the rest of the route.
She didn't mention the staring thing again, opting to keep quiet instead, but you could feel her eyes meeting the side of your head every now and then.
You didn't say anything to her as you re-entered Jackson, walking side by side to the stables to put the horses back.
Ellie was brushing out Shimmer's mane as she opened her mouth to speak, "hey, thanks for earlier. Seriously. It means a lot."
You nodded, "no worries," and you paused, unsure of what to say next. Before you could, Ellie spoke up again.
"And sorry, by the way," she said, eyes darting around the stables, "for being mean."
At that, you found yourself completely dumbfounded, eyes wide, staring across the stables at her. And before you had the chance to recover from the shock she was flying out of the stables, probably heading back to Joel's house.
Within the next four minutes you'd rushed to Dina's, tripping and stumbling over your own feet, heart pounding and mind racing.
"She apologized?" Dina asked incredulously, eyebrows raised and lips turned downward, "for real?"
You shrugged, "I guess. I can't believe it either."
"Yeah, dude, she hated you for years but you play hero once and now she likes you again?" Jesse laughed, shaking his head, "bullshit."
"I never said she liked me again, Jesse. I was just telling you what happened. She apologized. That's what happened."
"Maybe she realized you aren't that bad," Dina smiled.
"Oh thanks, Dee, I'm honored."
Dina chuckled, leaning towards you and smacking your shoulder playfully, "and it's about time."
You paused, chewing on your lip as you thought of the day's events over and over and over again.
"I hope this is a new beginning for you guys, you deserve it."
You stopped your thinking, pulling yourself out of your thoughts to respond with a smile, "thanks, Dee."
"So, now that that's out of the way," Dina smiled suggestively, narrowing her eyes and raising her eyebrows, "you want to come to the bar with us later? Everyone's gonna be there."
You couldn't miss the suggestive tone in her voice, the way it dropped a pitch and she gained a mischievous glint in her eyes.
You hummed, "are they? Good for them."
Dina sighed exhaustedly, "c'mon! You never come with us! It'll be so much fun, I promise!"
"I don't know, Dina. You know I'm not one for parties."
"Well, you are tonight," she tapped the palm of her hand against the table, "because you are coming with me and we are going to dance all night and have so much fun. So much so, in fact, that you're going to completely forget how much you hate parties!"
"Oh, is that right?" You smiled as you began to chuckle.
She hummed, a particularly big grin splattered on her face.
"Yeah, your new best friend might be there too," Jesse added, which earned a nasty look from you and a disapproving look from Dina.
"Shut up!" Dina shouted, turning her attention to Jesse - which only threw you right back into your own head.
After Dina snapped you out of it, and after a lot more begging and pleading on her part, you agreed. It couldn't be that bad - right?
The party was nothing short of what you'd expected.
It was loud, crammed, kind of smelly, and definitely not the place you wanted to be spending your time.
But every time you caught Dina's eyes or you looked over in her direction, the smile on her face was enough to make you feel so deeply guilty that you stayed put. You stayed with her if she brought you out to dance and you stayed with her if she brought you to the bar to get a new drink.
It wasn't a surprise when you noticed Ellie at the bar, nursing a cold cup, staring at you with a conflicting expression. It also wasn't a surprise when Dina grabbed your hand and started dragging you in her direction, giving you one last reassuring smile.
It was a surprise, however, when Ellie greeted Dina with a hug and you with a smile.
She smiled at you.
Completely unable to quickly recover, you let Dina do the talking, trying to calm your racing heart.
"Hey, El! How're you doing?" she had to shout over the music but you knew Ellie could hear her - everyone could hear Dina.
"Pretty good! You okay?"
They began to exchange pleasantries and all the usual small talk, so you spaced out for a moment, waiting for the moment Dina would pull you away again. That moment didn't come, however, because Dina ran off without you.
"Wait - where's she going?" you yelled, eyes finally meeting Ellie's.
"Said she was gonna grab Jesse," Ellie began, eyes scanning over your outfit. "You want a drink?"
You hesitated, thinking over what happened during patrol. You lost yourself, again, and began mulling over what you could say and how she would possibly respond.
But then you began speaking, your mind not caught up yet.
"Sure!"
Ellie's face relaxed a little, and she waved you over towards a quieter area of the bar. The flannel tucked up to her elbows showcased the way her muscles flexed as she signaled Seth over to your side of the bar.
"You doing okay?" You asked as Seth walked away. "It just... looked like that stalker shook you up a bit."
She nodded, "Yeah, yeah. It was a little," she shrugged and let out a mangled noise, "nerve wracking." You both laughed.
Seth dropped your drink in front of you, giving you a sideways glance before returning to the packed end of the bar.
"You know how it goes, though," she finished. "I'm good."
"Well, that is certainly a plus."
Her lips tugged into a small grin, making you mirror the expression.
"Thanks again, by the way."
"Hey, we were partners. It was my job to have your back."
You both laughed again.
And you fell back into it. Into that easy-going, comfortable rhythm you had with her so many years ago. It was like no time had passed at all; like you were fourteen again.
And even when Dina came back she didn't hide it. You were finally able to openly talk to your two friends together again. It was like a dream.
"Hey, Ellie!" No. "I haven't seen you in forever!" No. "You look so good!" No.
"Oh! Hey, Cat!"
No.
You could almost taste the tension that had suddenly built up around the three of you; the sudden change in the air sending your head reeling and heart pounding.
Ellie and Cat exchanged pleasantries (not like you were interested or anything) as you suddenly honed in on a weirdly shaped ice cube in your drink. Poking at it with your straw, you waited for Cat to leave, holding your breath.
And in less than five minutes, you fell out of it.
You fell out of your rhythm, Ellie already ten beats ahead of you while you seemed to have changed rhythms completely.
When Cat did (finally) leave you let out a shaky breath, watching as even Ellie noticed the shift in you.
"Sorry," she said sheepishly, mostly directing the apology to Dina. She turned to face Dina straight on now, no longer moving her eyes between the two of you.
"You're fine," Dina brushed it off quickly, seemingly unaware of the sudden awkwardness.
"I should uh... go anyway. Joel's waiting for me, so... you know."
"Oh, yeah, sure. We should go soon too," Dina draped an arm around your shoulders, "I have kept someone here for way too long. She's getting a little antsy." She gave you a pointed smile, a teasing tone lacing her voice.
Ellie gave Dina a half-hearted chuckle before standing and hugging her. She gave you a very awkward, sideways, one armed hug before turning around and almost running out of the building.
"You want to go now or wait a little-"
"Can we go, Dina?" you rushed, clenching your eyes shut as you rubbed the balls of your palms into your eyes. "I'm just... really tired."
Dina stared at your face, her eyes scanning yours, for an extra beat before nodding, "Yeah, of course."
At home you spent the rest of your night hiding under your duvet, pulling at large chunks of your hair with your fists, digging your heels into your bed; all the way until you finished the night tiredly blinking away tears and chewing at your lips.
It was all so confusing. One minute you're dreading even looking at her and the next you're talking and laughing with her like you're best friends - and then? Then you're sitting there like the two of you never started talking again at all, all because Ellie said hi to an old friend.
One minute she's talking to you, then the next she's talking to you through Dina.
You woke in the morning with blood dried on your lips and dark bags under your eyes. You found it hard to keep your eyes open as you brushed your teeth, and one look in the mirror showed that you were in no state to leave your home anytime soon.
Your parents left quickly for work, not giving you a second glance even as you asked them to clear your schedule for the day.
Around noon you received a familiar knock at the door, and when you opened it you saw a face that hadn't graced your porch in a few years.
"Hey, Ellie," you paused, panicking internally. "What's up?"
"Do you want to talk?"

Tumblr media
You had stood infront of your bathroom mirror finishing up your makeup for the night. Your hair was already done and you had a nice outfit on, not to fancy and not too comfortable. While listening to a playlist George had made for you, you had put down the brushes you were using. It didnt really matter if you cleaned up your makeup that was littered all over the sink right now, but right now you were feeling good.
Today was your and George's 3rd year anniversary and you couldn't be happier about it. Today you two were going to dinner and doing something else which was supposed to be a surprise for you. It was a night on the town.
George and you met 4 years ago actually. You two started out as acquaintances, the slowly grew into friends and then one day he asked you to join him to dinner. At first you were oblivious to his actions, thinking he was just being a good friend, but turns out the more dates you two went on the more you caught on. He officially asked you to be his girlfriend 3 years ago today.
His friends keep on pressuring George to propose already, they think it's been long enough. The only thing close to marriage is a promise ring. He put the ring on your finger as a promise that one day he would marry you, everytime you doubt that he will propose you turn your attention to the cute ring on your finger.
You had turned off the bedroom lights and sat on your bed finally relaxing after struggling to find a decent enough outfit for tonight. George said that he was going to pick you up around 6:00 and now it is 5:47 so you had some time to spare.
You had found yourself scrolling through tiktok because you had nothing else better to do at this moment. It was a guilty pleasure of yours even though you and george both joked around about hating tiktok.
Time began to tick away so you had checked the clock on your phone which said 5:57 pm. You had grabbed shoes that you set up against your bed, slipped them on and grabbed all of your belongings for the night. You stationed yourself in the living room waiting till George came to the door.
Nervousness always came up before a date, it was the anticipation actually. You were excited and nervous about the date as you always were, but today for you was special. It was three years worth of beautiful love. You remembered the time he first said I love you too, it was just like it was yesterday.
***
"Hey y/n." George looked towards you. You both were sitting on a plaid, plush blanket with a brown woven basket ontop in between you two. It was just like the movies and that why you cringed because of how cheesy it was when George led you to it.
It was sweet, it was extremely sweet and you loved these dates that George always brung you too. You always felt special when you are sitting next to him.
You responded to George. "Yeah Gogy?" You laughed at the use of his nickname.
"Im trying to be serious right now and you call me Gogy." George smiled and shook his head. "Anyways, you know I love you, right?"
"Of course I do-"
"No I love you. I mean. I'm in love with you." George reached to rest his hand ontop of yours and repeated himself. "I'm in live with you y/n."
You wasted no time answering. "Im in love with you too."
***
6:03
George didnt show up yet, but there was no sweat. He was only 3 minutes late, maybe he ran into traffick. Your stomach was rumbling, but you didnt want to eat yet since you two we're planning to go to dinner. Patience is key, and it wasnt like he wasn't late before.
6:10
You started to get worried, it's been 10 minutes and still no sign of your boyfriend. You had gotton up several times to check outside of your door only to be met with no one. Your mind was jumping to conclusions about if he forgot your anniversary, but you shut those thoughts out for the time being.
6:19
Okay this is getting out of hand. You brung out our phone and began to text George, you couldn't believe that you had waited this long before texting the man.
Where are you? Ive been waiting for 29 minutes?!
[Sent: 6:20pm]
George what are you doing?
[Sent: 6:20pm]
You awaited his text message with your phone faced up on the coffee table infront of you. You didn't want to believe that George woukd forget, or overslept, but that was becoming truth the more minutes passed by with no call or text.
6:30
Calling him was useless, because he didn't answer. He didn't hang up on you he just wasn't picking up the phone, like he turned it off. You started to get worried if something happened to him, if he was in a situation where he couldn't call or text you. You wondered if he was safe at home and not out in the middle of the street.
In a flash all your worries subsided when your phone lit up with a notification.
ThisIsNotGeorgeNotFound is live:
Im Playing golf with my friends
That son of a bitch. Pissed off was an understatement, you were fuming. How could he end up streaming at home when you had constantly reminded him about this day, he knew damn well about this day too. How could he?
You ended up grabbing a jacket and your purse and ended up driving to George's place. It seemed like he was mocking you in a way, he knew you had notifications on for Twitch. You loved to support him and his career, but this was making a fool out of yourself.
Your hand tightly gripped the steering wheel as you tried not to run every red light you cane across. You finally came across George's home, you found a place to park and quickly got out of your car and sped walked your way to George's residence. Finally making up to George's door you knocked harshly on the door probably making more noise than what you intended too. You continuously banged on his door until you got fed up.
Remembering that George had given you a key to his house you dig through your purse to get your set of keys out anr unlock his door. You stomped inside his house and closed the door behind you.
"GEORGE! GEORGE!" You yelled through the house. You were being reckless and annoying, but you didnt care at this point you were fuming and needed to tell George how you feel.
You had made your way to George's recording room where he was talking to his friends on discord. George looked towards you in shock clearly not hearing the sounds you were making throughout his house.
"Y/N?!" George yelled and muted his microphone.
"What the hell are you doing?" You exclaimed back.
"Im streaming thats what Im doing!" George sassed back at you, not paying attention to his screen and the chat.
"Dont get smart with me. End the stream."
"What?! No!"
"You heard me, we need to talk." You crossed your arms across your chest. Your heart was beating too fast for your liking and you tried to calm yourself down, but George's comments were getting to you.
George was about to unmute himself and get back to the game. "No we dont-"
"GEORGE END THE FUCKING STREAM! This is embarrassing! Talk to me cause you have some explaining to do." You snapped at him.
A silence tell upon you two and he glared at you before turning to his stream and closing it out.
"Okay guys! Go watch the other boys streams I need to go now! Bye!" George quickly ended and turned off everything.
He turned around to you still sitting in his chair. "What? What do you want?"
"Do you know what today is?" You asked.
"April 30th." George answered bluntly.
"Thats all you have to say?" You asked in shock. "It's our anniversary dickhead!"
"I fucking know that." George said.
"You do? So why did you start streaming and we had dinner plans?!"
"I told you we were streaming! You weren't listening to me!" George stood up from his chair when he said that.
"When the fuck did you tell me this?!"
"A couple days ago! You didn't listen!"
"But you knew that was our anniversary! And we made dinnerr plans-"
George yelled over you. "A month ago! We made those plans a month ago so excuse me for forgetting!"
"So all these other years you remembered our anniversary and went out of your fucking way to cancel other plans around that date, but today you didnt because why?!" Tears were threatening to fall down you cheeks, but you wouldnt let him see you like that.
"Because I planned this already with the boys! And AGAIN you werent listening to me when I said that-"
"There were several other times that you could've told me too! But you didn't!" You sniffed trying to keep the frustrated tears inside.
"I already planned this and I cant go back on my promise-"
"But you can with me?!" You yelled and George stopped talking. He's just studying your face at this point and you hated this silence.
"Its not important apparently." You said while walking out of the recording room.
"You're being a bitch." He mumbled.
"Excuse me?! That is so disrespectful!" You spun around yelled at him.
"You already made me feel like shit so might as well finish me off." George said in a annoying tone.
"Yeah you should feel like shit! I feel like shit too so-!" You threw your hands up in exasperation and stormed out the room. You had made it to the door before George called out to you again.
"Y/n! Y/n! Please!"
"No! Just..." You paused before opening the door and ushering your way out. "Call me when you get your shit together.
Tumblr media
You were currently curled up on your couch eating leftovers that you had in the refrigerator. That had satisfied your hunger for the night because the dinner was canceled that night. Your anger and sadness had subsided and you were only left with an unusual feeling in your heart. Your relationship felt incomplete, this fight felt incomplete. You didnt break up with him, but you were waiting for closure.
The TV was the only light in the room. It illuminated what it wanted to, you didnt care if it was too dark. Usually you would be cuddled up with George at this ungoldy hour, but you weren't and that made you tear up.
Your sadness was still there, your anger towards George turned into pity. You were sad about the actions he took, but somewhere in your heart you could forgive him. You could forgive and move on if he would come to you.
Speaking of, you had a knock on your door. You didn't have the strength to get up, but you did. Shuffling your way to the door you sluggishly opened it to find George standing there with his hands in his hoodie. The person you wanted to see, but at the same time you wanted to slam that door in his face.
"Hey." George spoke and you gave him a small smile, nothing more.
You turned around to find your seat back on the couch where you were comfortable, but also giving him a silent invitation to come inside. You had sat down on the couch not paying attention to George, but you knew he closed the door, took off his shoes by yours, and put his keys on the table by the door like he always did. It was like a routine to him.
George ended up awkwardly standing beside the couch as you ignored him.
"You know, if you didnt open the door I would've used my keys like you did." George tried to spark up a conversation, but you only hummed in response. You were scared that if you spoke, you would cry.
George ended up making his way to the couch sitting beside you and pulling you into his embrace. Your head was on his chest and you began to sob. You missed this it's only been a few hours, but you had felt that in those few hours you had lost everything. You continued to sob into his hoodie as he rubbed your back and shushed you, whispering sweet nothings into the air only for you to hear.
"Im here, and Im sorry. Im so fucking sorry that I did this to you and I only hope that you can forgive me." George said, his voice cracking a little when he said that. You kept crying.
That's what you wanted to hear all along, that's what you needed. You could forgive him in due time, you always will because you love him, you will always love him. You both can always make it right.

Can I get rick grimes x gender neutral reader
The reader was an elite solider in the U.S army when the virus happened. They been traveling the South for five ½ years alone. So now they landed in Georgia when the Saviors and Rick Group are at war. One day Rick is attacked by the Saviors, but the reader saves Rick from the Saviors with a rifle but escapes before Rick ever notices. Days later the reader meets Rick (like how Jesus met Rick.) But Rick captures the reader and interrogates him. In the end Reader reveals how he saved Rick. Rick then forces the reader work/live with the group even though the real.

The sun had set hours earlier but that didn’t stop you. Unrelenting you continued through the heat and the exhaustion. You couldn’t stop. Not now. Not after everything you had gone through. Even before this, you wouldn’t allow yourself to stop. Being one of America’s pride and joys serving as a respected sergeant. You had served 10 years before the world went to shit and it made you laugh now. You always thought that the meaning of your life - the purpose - was to protect and serve against threats to the U.S.A. If only you knew that your greatest threat was against the dead now living. You were grateful, more than anything. You had a lot more in this world than others did. And now 5 1/2 years later you were still going. Never stopping. Not for anything.
Except... when you caught wind of a certain curly-haired man. He was being attacked and was substantially outmanned. You thought the best use of your time was to protect people just like you had in your previous life. The man was cornered now by the time you’d made the decision to help him. Three men dressed in leather charged him with any weapon they could find. He fought against them - to the best of his ability. Which seemed to be skilled at least. You gripped your trusty rifle, aimed the scope and without hesitation fired.
One man fell.
Then the next.
And then the last.
The blue-eyed man scoured the area for you, curious about the location of the shots. You, however, were smarter than that. You didn’t know this man. You didn’t know if he deserved what those men would’ve done to him but you did know trust is to be earned in this world not given carelessly. You ducked away out of his vision. But you never strayed far from the man.
You could say curiosity got the better of you. Naturally and from a very young age, you’d always pester, investigate, fight for answers when they really weren’t warranted. Your mom used to tell you how curiosity killed the cat but you preferred to say it saved the cat. Being curious never hurt anyone and it certainly came as an advantage to you. When meeting people you knew how to hide, how to watch. And yes it may be creepy but it was necessary. You weren’t stupid, far from it, so why stop your ways now?
The man didn’t return back to a camp after the attack - one that you knew he had due to his clean and well-presented appearance. He continued through the area, meeting up with a tall brooding man accompanied with a crossbow. The two seemed close. Although despite how few words conversed between them, you knew they were. If either of them fell into some trouble the other protected. They were family - maybe not blood - but no doubt in your mind we’re they like brothers.
It had been days now and these men were still on their run. By this time you were even doubting if this was worth it but you shook off the thoughts and continued. It wasn’t your intention to draw attention to yourself. Hell, it was something you were taught against. But it happened. You, rather carelessly, stumbled across them. It all happened so fast. You saw someone in the woods - walker maybe. But at that moment you decided against your inner workings and ran. Stupidly you ran straight into this man.
“Watch it,” He growled pushing you back slightly. They glared at you threateningly, guns were drawn.
“Wha’ ta hell ya doin’?” The crossbowman snapped. His deep southern accent growing darker through his words. He was on edge. It being clear that interactions like this hadn’t always been a blessing.
“Was just passing through. Calm yourself, alrigh’?”
Unimpressed he looked to the blue-eyed man who was fixed on your stance. “You looked in a hurry. Trouble heading this way?” The man inquired warily.
“Nah not really,” You paused looking back to the area, “Well maybe I'm not sure.”
“Not sure? What's back there?” He looked at you suspiciously hand still grasped around his colt python. You didn't say anything to them as a sound overcame the atmosphere. It sounded like a twig, perhaps just a wondering dead but they didn't see the rational side. "Who are you? Who are you with?" The blue-eyed man barked edging the pistol closer to your face.
"Hey, chill man. My names y/n, alright? And I'm not with anyone. I'm on my own, okay?" The men shared a look before turning back to you unbelievingly. You opened your mouth to justify your case but was interrupted by a smack to the side of your head. You fell to the ground, gazing at the two men still.
And then... nothing.
~
Hours later your eyes snapped open. Alert, you searched through the room. It was a cell. A traditional one with an iron gate. One you knew from past experience weren't the easiest to break out of. Especially after spotting a man floating around the exit. "Hello?" Your head burned as you spoke likely due to a concussion but you powered through it. The man stopped pacing and glared at you. He was a dark-skinned man, holding what looked like a stick. But the main thing was that he was clean. You had noticed earlier how the two men didn't look as ragged and dirty as you did. Telling you they had a home. Now seeing him proved it.
"Hello," He said back, "Names Morgan, yours?" Your rational side shut your mouth for you. You didn't know these people. Hell, they kidnapped you. They didn't deserve your name. And you resented how you caved earlier and told those people. "Not much of a speaker, huh?" Again silence, "You didn't have to be afraid of me. I won't hurt you."
Begrudgingly you responded, "I'm not afraid of you." "Your not?" "No, I'm not. Not of you. Not of those men who brought me here. Not of anyone," Morgan almost laughed at your response.
"You're quite brave, aren’t you?" You shrugged etching a smile on his face, "you'll fit right in here."
"Who says I want to stay?" You countered. "I have a feeling," He smirked before another person entered the room.
"They awake?" Morgan nodded and exited.
The blue-eyed man from earlier entered your view. No words were exchanged between the two of you. You understood he still perceived you as a threat, which you knew you very well could be. You'd do what you have to. That's what you told yourself. After years of service to the army that swam around your mind like a mantra. You'd done some horrific things for your country now and before but you didn't let it rot you to the core like your comrades. You did what you had to. There was never an exception. So if these people decided to try something you'd do what you have to.
"Who are you?" He interrogated swiftly. Telling you that this wasn't his first rodeo. He was a cop or maybe even in the army like you.
"I already told you," Coldly you returned.
"Yeah well, I don't believe you," He persisted.
"I don't entirely know what you want me to do with that," you scoffed, "I can't force you to believe me. But I know my name. I know I'm alone. I know I don't mean to bring harm to your people unless I have to."
The man grunted. He hated how he began to believe you slightly. "Why were you running then?"
You sighed, "I was following you."
"You were following us?" He growled, "Why?"
"You were attacked. Those men I killed them," You revealed, "I was curious. So I followed you. I saw a walker or maybe it was a person... I don't know. I ran and bumped into you. That's all. I have no ulterior motive."
"Just because you tell me you have no ulterior motive doesn't make me inclined to believe you," He let out a harsh breath.
"What more do you want, huh? Want me to do a polygraph?"
He chuckled, "No. Of course not. But I don't trust you."
"So let me go," You promoted.
"I can't do that," he shook his head erratically.
"Why not?"
"You're valuable. If what you say is true that you did save me. Then I... we can't let that go, alright?"
You gaped at his confession, "So you're gonna force me to stay here?"
"Not exactly... we'd prefer if you did from your own will but if we have to," He quirked his eyebrow at you, "What do you say?"
Sarcastically you laughed at his proposition, "You're crazy."
"No, I'm Rick. Rick Grimes. And this," Rick gestured to your surroundings, "is Alexandria. Hopefully your new home."
"How do you know I'm not gonna kill you all in your sleep?" You furrowed your eyebrows at his naivety.
"I have faith that you won't. I searched you when you were out," He went into his pocket pulling out a medal you had gotten for serving in Iraq, "A soldier? I was a sheriffs deputy myself and I know I wouldn't have it in me to kill all the people in here - the children. I know you wouldn't either."
"You're right I wouldn't but... but we're not the same, Rick. We never will be," Rick tilted his head.
"I know," He spoke honestly, "But I feel like we're similar. You'd do a lot to save someone you'd never met. That's someone we'd like in Alexandria. Y/n you saved me. And I know you can save a lot more. So what do you say?"
You sighed moving closer to the cell door, "Okay."

shallow or deep
Tumblr media
— “Why would you want a guy with such a large and disgusting burn?” he whispered, his tone thoroughly rejected, broken. It was then that it hit you: did he think he wasn't good enough for you. —
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
pairing: todoroki shouto x reader
warnings: fluff, angst (insecurities), cursing
word count: 2,544
a/n: I took the shouto has an insecurity over his scar even if it isnt that deep headcanon and ran with it, I hope yall enjoy this!!!! its been awhile since ive managed to write a fic in a single day!!!
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
“You’re quite the handsome man!”
“Oh, thank you.”
“But that scar... don’t you want to get that fixed? I know someone with a quirk who can fix that up for you!”
“Thank you for your concern, but I think I am content with it.”
~
“Without a doubt, you are by far one of the most attractive Pro Heroes to have existed!”
“Thank you for your compliment, but I think it’s my ability to—”
“Don’t you think you would look hotter without your scar? Have you ever considered getting it removed?”
“...no, I haven’t…”
~
“Just imagine how Shouto would look like without his scar, here are some edited pictures for reference!”
“Wow, if I didn’t want to give him my life already, I would sell my soul to the devil to get with a scarless Shouto…”
“I don’t know, I think the scars sexy! Like look at it, it makes him so mysterious and badass! Guys with scars are so fucking hot! But in my opinion, without the scar? Shouto isn’t shit!”
“Guys with scars are hot, I’ll give you that, but not one-fourth of the face scars! He’s extremely handsome still, but it’s a bit tacky for the scar to be there. If it had been like Deku’s arm and hand scars — hell, even Eraserheads face scar — he would be so much finer.”
~
“And just how did you get your scar, Shouto?”
The American interviewer who sat in front of Shouto during this live national interview had the kindest smile on her face, but to the Pro Heroes who sat on the stage alongside Shouto could recognize that shark-like glint in her eyes. Her face was calm, tranquil, beautiful, but her eyes sent bitter acid through the Heroes mouth.
“I’ve already explained what happened in a previous interview,” Shouto spoke calmly, his fingers digging into his knees.
Your eyes looked over to your boyfriend, who seemed to be trying everything in his power to remain calm. You’d only seen this happen through a screen, never in real life.
The interviewer seemed unconcerned with his rebuttal, most likely expecting this from the man who wasn’t one for repeating big stories. Her chin tilted up almost like she was looking down on him, looking down on who he was.
“Well then, I’ll bite,” she leaned forward, and you felt on edge to attack, but a hand gripped your wrist when a cruel smirk spread on her face. “Do you resent your mother for burning you that night? How do you feel about the fact that it was your mother who ruined your charming looks?”
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
The car was silent.
Your eyes tried to remain focused on the road ahead of you, but to your misplaced anger and hurt, you focused on the side of Shouto’s face every so often while he drove.
The radio wasn’t even on, something the both of you enjoyed blasting because you would sing stupidly loud and Shouto would hum along in his own mirth. The only sound heard was the tires driving against the gravel road and your irritated breathing.
The two of you had dropped off your friends five minutes ago, the once awkwardly tense car melting to this angry silence between the two of you in the front.
You hadn’t defended him on live television because Momo held you back, and Shouto allowed the interviewer to defile his family’s past abuse with her keen touch. The silence between the two of you was also irritating you.
Once the interview was done, Shouto had been the first to rise from his chair and to leave. And you were hot on his heels. You hadn’t been forgiving to Shouto when you finally corned him.
“How could you let her talk to you like that, Shouto?” you blazoned, your heart hammering in your chest, anger, humiliation, and sorrow riling you up. “She was a total fucking cunt, and you just took it!”
Shouto stared down at you, that old yet familiar distant look in his eyes — that anger that burned brighter than any fire he could produce flaming in both eyes.
“Drop it, y/n,” he all but hissed, his face stone, his tone fierce. “You don’t need to fight every single fucking thing that makes me uncomfortable.”
Those words weren’t enough to make you drop it, had it been any other fight you would have continued to press him for what was wrong with him, but it was that look in his eyes. The old look that you had sworn long ago you’d never allow to meet his eyes again.
The anger, humiliation, and broken look that he used to wear every day.
When Shouto finally parked, he didn’t hesitate to get out of the car, the door slamming loudly while you stumbled to follow after him.
But he was tall, too tall, and was in the house well before you could close your own door. It didn’t deter the way that you stormed towards the house, the devil, and god riding on your shoulder in this battle to figure out what the hell was wrong with Shouto.
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
“I don’t resent my mother,” Shouto cooly stated. “It was an unfortunate accident, but fortunately, it hasn’t kept me from anything. I still have complete sight and functionality, so I’m okay. I could never resent my mother.”
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
“Won’t you tell me what’s wrong?” you ask, coming into the house.
This was Shouto’s house, something that Endeavor had gifted to him in his expression of apology. He and his siblings had been given their own homes the moment they turned twenty, and shortly after starting your relationship, he had asked you to move in.
You both were now twenty-three. You were neither each other's firsts on many levels, but there was no denying that this was the best relationship the both of you had. You comforted each other to no level, loved each other like no other. It was almost a shame that you didn’t have any feelings for your old classmate during high school because maybe then you’d been together for longer than a year.
But nevertheless, the two of you held no regrets. His house had become yours with him.
It was a bright place, no matter how dull the day was, it was always vivacious and warm in here.
But not now.
The door closed behind you, and you saw Shouto standing at the kitchen table, head lowered, arms tense. The world seemed grey, dull, and cold. You almost swore the house’s temperature was ten degrees cooler while you approached your boyfriend, who appeared to be trapped in his thoughts.
You neared him, your own anger diminishing slowly when you saw the shadows over his eyes, his teeth gnashing in a grit.
Sorrow, humiliation, guilt.
That’s all you could read from him, but you needed more from him.
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
The interviewer seems to have expected that answer for she remains unfazed, but that predatorial glint in her eyes remains. The eyes of someone who hasn’t shown off their strongest of cards.
“How about relationship-wise? Have any of the beautiful ladies you’ve dated or have wanted to court in the past told you that you’d be much more handsome without it? Don’t you wish that you could be more normal for y/h/n?”
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
“Why would you want a guy with such a large and disgusting burn?” he whispered, his tone thoroughly rejected, broken. It was then that it hit you: did he think he wasn't good enough for you.
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
You stood up, the chair you were sitting on scraping loudly against the black floor. The interviewer snapped her attention on you for just a moment, eyes sparkling with the thrill of getting a dramatic reaction from someone.
But Momo and Uraraka held you down, and Sero’s tape came across your mouth to keep you from talking your mind.
“There have been words like that before,” Shouto says, his voice steely smooth. “But as you can see, I’m not dating anyone who shares those same opinions.”
The interviewer seemed to deflate at that answer, obviously not the juicy breakdown she was hoping for. She continued down the mass interview with the most successful class from UA’s hero program, and you continued to fume in your seat. Anger that couldn’t even be quieted by the sour emotions coming off of Shouto in large waves.
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
“W-What?” you say almost in a horrified whisper.
Your eyes were wide, unsure if you had heard Shouto correctly. You prayed you had. A fist clenched on your chest, your gaze followed Shouto’s clouded face when he stood up completely.
“You heard me right,” he repeats, his focus on the wall. Finally, his blue and grey eyes focus on you; they’re distant, so far away, you weren’t sure if you could get him back anytime soon. A soft sigh ragged in his chest, nearly choking in his throat when he looked at you. “I was never insecure about my scar growing up… I didn’t have anything in sight except for wanting to be a hero, and hell, even through high school, it didn’t matter. No one in our class mentioned it, and I went on to believe that it while it wasn’t normal, it was in some way.” His hands found your cheeks, pressing onto them gently, and you could feel them tremble slightly. “Then I finally liked someone romantically, and we were thrust into the crazy world of media, and I realized that my burn isn’t normal.”
“S-Shouto…”
“The first person I ever dated told me they knew someone who would fix it up for me for free. The second person… well, they were an idiot and thought if we had children, the burn would be transferred over. More and more people both privately and publicly told me that I would be s-so much better without it… Do you think I’d be better without it?” his lips twisted, and you could only stare up in his eyes that seemed so far away so broken. “Even the ones who liked it, it was some weird fetish of theirs… the truth is, I don’t know how to feel about it. I shouldn’t hate it because it’s who I am, but I hate it because people always have some opinion about it, and no matter what I hear, it always pisses me off. I just… you’re beautiful, y/n. You’re the person in my life that I never want to see leave, and I know that it’s shallow to value people only for their beauty, but I’m not beautiful. Scars and burns are not beautiful, they’re ugly... My looks are decent at best, but that’s all that makes me desirable. Not you, though. You’re gorgeous, your personality and attitude never fail to make everyone feel better, and yet you’re here with me… why would you love someone like me?”
There it was.
His eyes kept to your feet as if he wasn’t worthy of staring you in the face. His hands continue to hold against you in a weak grasp, as if he pressed any harder against you, you would crumble to dust or say you hated him.
Your hands grasped his wrists, pressing his hands even more against your skin. It was an intense action, so out of the blue that his eyes snapped up to meet yours finally.
Shouto wasn’t sure what to expect when he looked at your face; he knew you were upset about the interview, and truthfully he wished he hadn’t warned Uraraka, Momo, and Sero to keep you down when those questions were asked — should they have been proposed. He also expected tears, you were always one to be more emotional than he was.
What he didn’t expect were steely yet warm eyes.
“You’re an idiot, Todoroki Shouto,” you finally speak. You took a step closer to him, your heartbeat in your throat. This was a raw Shouto standing before you. A Shouto, you had no idea how he reacted, no matter how much you knew him. So, if this was a rebuilding scene, a moment to get him to see what you saw, you would take it. “You’re right, scars and burns are ugly. They shouldn’t be romanticized. It’s also not the same as others, who take scars as a sign of overcoming hardships and victory. Your scar is one of a kind… but like you’ve said, shallow traits aren’t enough…” Your chin trembled just the slightest bit, but you couldn’t let yourself cry. No, you had to be strong for him. “You’re the kindest person I know, which knowing the saint that is Midoriya and All Might, it means a lot. I don’t mean it because you’re my boyfriend, or because I want you to feel better, but you had every reason to not be kind in your life and look at you, you’re gentle, you’re sweet. You also speak your mind, no matter what. Your opinions are valuable, and that’s why you’re such a great leader. You were made to become a hero that surpassed All Might, and you did it without ever once going down the road your father had intended for you. You did that. But if we’re going to be looking at the shallow traits, we can do that.
Your scar is a sign of growth. It’s ugly, and it’s beautiful. It’s ugly because it makes you feel like you’re not good for me. It’s ugly because it was such a dark time for you when it came. It’s ugly because it’s an insecurity. But I also see beauty. It’s beautiful because it’s another place I can tenderly love at night. It’s beautiful because who you were back then is just a scar of who you were. It’s beautiful because it’s a source of your strength despite it all. You can think whatever you want of it, Shouto, think it’s good or bad, but because it’s apart of you I have to and I choose to love it. Why would I ever want you to change who you are if you’re comfortable with it? What kind of lover would I be if I decided to love everything but one part of you?” your fingers trailed to his scarred skin, the red skin forever warm under your touch. “Shallow or deep, I will never stop loving you.”
Tears fell from his eyes, and his lips crashed against yours.
The two of you sink to the floor in this wet and sweet embrace. Lips never tearing from each other, fingers wistfully holding on, a silent prayer to each other of your devotions, and hope to never leave each other’s sides. Your fingers continued to stroke against his scar, and he held you so close until you could no longer kiss.
So your wet and bruised lips pressed against his warm scar, gentle and soft reminders that you were there for him until his faint cries became steady breathing.
Todoroki Shouto may never get over the insecurity of his scar, but he’d be damned if he thought for a second whether it was there or not, you’d love him any more or any less. You loved him entirely, and for that, he was forever grateful.

Devil went into hiding
Tumblr media
*Sequel to running with the devil *
Arne stood in front of the window of Kat’s hospital room. His heart sank looking at the woman that was so strong and could taking a beating with one hand tied behind her back. She was pale with her auburn hair floating around her; with a breathing tube and needle lines coming out both of her arms. He closed his eyes not wanting to see the person he ever loved looking so broken. He should have been her to help her. Arne wouldn’t say he should have been there to protect Kat because she never needed protecting.
“Arne!” Arne turned around and saw his best friend, James. James looked so tired. There was a smile on his face, but his eyes looked haunted. He should have been here for all of his friends. He should have been here. He walked over and pulled James into a tight hug. He pulled away and could see better that James’s eyes were red. The man that never cried was breaking.
“Are you okay?”
“We need to leave now. I’ve called Ivan and Alex. Alex said he would sit this one out. He’s going to man stations with Theo. Freya is also coming. Don’t worry her and Kat have been training together. She’s no Kat but Freya can hold her own. We need the numbers also if you want armor your dad’s is hanging up in the east wing.” James turned starting to leave to suit up himself when Arne stopped him.
“Bro, you need to breath. What happen?” James’s eyes darken to almost black.
“No bro, do you want to know what happen? I watched the girl I loved almost die in my arms. I carried her lifeless body while her blood soaked through my uniform. She hasn’t woken and its been over twelve hours. So, don’t tell me to breath!” James turned to walk out of the room leaving Arne trying to wrap what James just said around his head. What did he mean by the girl he loved?
Natasha through open the door with fire in her eyes. Steve and Bucky dropped what they were doing and stared at her. Bucky ran over to her. She fell into his arms feeling safe once again. She closed her eyes feeling so tire. Natasha thought that the fight was finally over, and she could go home. Her kids weren’t supposed to endure the nightmares that her and her husband went through. Their lives were supposed to be different.
“So, are we getting the whole team because I did recon and there is no sign of Hydra nor our daughter. It was like they just vanished.” Bucky gave her a look telling we got this. Steve tried speaking up but was ignored by their silent communicating.
“We called Thor and Bruce. They are already suiting up ready to go. Tony is searching the area and doing scans. That I know of the boys are coming to sit with Kat and Steve is on board too. So, go get ready and meet us in an hour.” Bucky bent down and kissed her cheek. She gave him a warm smile. She loved him so much.
“Thank you, Steve.” He gave her a nod and a smile as well.
The group of twenty-somethings all stood together in the training room getting ready for the battle of a lifetime. In all honesty none of them were trained for this except for James and Arne. The rest of them were going in blind but they also weren’t dumb. Their parents were the Avengers. James brought everyone together to run down the plan of action. Little did he know is father was doing the same.
“Okay, Alex and Theo are going to stay at the compound and be our eyes inside of the base. Take out all of the security cameras and warn us of any surprises.” Theo and Alex nodded confirming they understood their orders.
“Okay, team we have done this before. This is a search and rescue mission. We are going to break into three teams. Ironman and I. Black Widow and the White wolf. Thor and the Hulk. Does anyone object with these pairings?” Each couple looked at one another not wishing not to be next to their significant other.
“Ivan, Freya you see this door located in the west wing. This is where you will go in. Kat and I found labs and other paperwork in there. Collect as much information you can without being caught. Once complete with is part meet us here.” Freya and Ivan gave each other a nervous look. Ivan had no desire to be in the field but for his sisters he would do anything. Freya had basic training, but she reminds herself that her power was her mind.
“Bucky and Nat, you will start in the east wing. From what James told me this is where they ran into Ana. Tony and I will go to the west and try to collect any data or look for hidden rooms. Thor, Bruce do surveillance outside but once we call you meet us.” Steve pointed to the very center of the map. “This is where we will all meet once we complete our missions.
“Does everyone know their task? We got this and we will succeed because we are the Avengers. So, Avengers Assemble!” James shouted.
“Avengers Assemble!” Steve and the team headed out not realizing that their own children weren’t to fair behind.
There was a throbbing pain in her head. The lights were too bright and laying down was not helping. Kat moved to the edge of the bed but then felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. She screamed out in pain until a nurse ran into the room instructing her to lay back down.
“Ms. Barnes, you need to lay back down or you will pop all of your stitches.” She huffed laying back down not liking to be fussed over. She took in a deep breath trying to remember why she was in here. The last thing she could piece together was seeing Ana and then a gun fire. James pulling her into his arms. Her slowly drifting off, feeling safe enough to in his warm arms.
Kat sat up again not likely laying in this bed. She had to find James or someone so she could know what was going. What was their next move? Once again, the nurse rushed back in trying to get her to rest. Kat pushed her away. She was fine beside the shooting pain everywhere.
“You must rest. Your mom and dad gave us strict orders to keep you in bed.” Kat paused at the mention of her parents. All she wanted was to see them, especially her pops. He always made things a little better.
“Where are my parents?” The nurse fixed her IVs adjusting the medicine. She could feel them working and the pain numbing.
“They were called to a mission with Steve Rogers and the other remaining Avengers.” Kat laid back feeling groggy, she just wanted to sleep. She did have one final question to ask.
“Where… Where is… Where is James?” Before she was given the answer, the world faded away.
James and Arne walked down the hall in silence. There was friction between the two men. They both knew what it was but were they really going to let someone come in between their friendship. Kat was a friend of theirs since they were just small children. Kat wasn’t something to fight over, she was the strong girl that they had many of memories with. The late movie nights, the giggle fest, and the sleep overs where the secrets they shared stayed between them.
“Do you remember when we were eight and Kat and I stole your clothes after we went swimming. You had to run around in just a towel screaming at us.” James glared at Arne.
“I was so mad. I was in just a towel for at least an hour until your dad found me curled up in ball shaking because I was cold.” Arne laughed.
“Hey, man, you had a towel. Also, I was ground for two weeks because of it. Kat didn’t get punished at all. She just batted her eyelashes at Uncle Buck, and everything was forgiven.” They turned to look at each other and their smiles fell.  They were thinking the same thing, was Kat going to be okay. They were interrupted by a crackling of comms.
“Captain, there is two heat signatures coming close to you.”
“Roger that dark glasses.” Alex huffed at his codename. He wanted something cooler like overwatch or heat seeker.
Steve and Tony walked slowly trying to take in every possible lead as to where Hydra had gone. This was their only chance they had for years to finally bring home their niece. They couldn’t afford to fail. Their footprints echo allowing them to know they were the only ones there until they heard another pair of steps. Steve frozen taking in the change of sound. There it was again.
“Cap, what’s wrong?” Steve pulled out his shield and ready it for attack.
“Tony, someone or more importantly people are close by. I think its only two, but they aren’t fair.” They stood their place until two figures appeared. Steve put the shield back and gave the two people a perplex looked and so did the same.
“James, Arne?”
“Dad, Pops”
“What are you doing here?” They said together. Tony looked at his son and a slight tear slipped down his cheek. He walked over and pulled his son into a hug. Tony was more worried then he let on when Steve and him first talked about the situation at hand. So, having his baby in his arms was a relief. Tony took a step back and admired James. He gave him a proud smile. In that instance he looked so much like his father. From the slicked back hair to Steve’s old stealth suit. He was so proud of his son.
“Dad, are you okay?” Tony nodded ready to get back to the mission.
“James, why are yall here? Please tell me it’s not just you two after what happened early.”
“No, sir, we have Alex and Theo manning comms. Ivan and Freya are searching the east wing. Kat is still in the hospital stable and Brooklyn well doing what ever Brooklyn at this point in time. She isn’t here.” Steve let out a sigh of relief knowing that James assembled a team and didn’t go in here blind.
“Well since this is your mission. Call the shots Captain America.”
Freya looked around nervously at everything around them. Sometimes Ivan and her would find alien like weapons others it would be just blood which would lead her to almost faint. Why did she agree to this?  She was more of a book worm not a superhero?
“Hey, are you okay?” She turned to Ivan and shook her head no.
“I’m kind of freaking out. I don’t know where we are or what we are doing? Anyone could pop out at any moment and ahh.” She slammed straight into a man. He dropped his gun to catch her from falling down. She turned around and saw a familiar face. Oh, thank God, she thought.
“Uncle Buck, get me out of here.” Freya turned around and wrapped his arms around his waist. He pulled her in for an embrace and looked over at Natasha. What was going on and why was the two people not trained for a mission here.
“Ivan, why are you here? You have no combat training. You should be at home.” Nat glared at her son not liking that he was here. She already one daughter in the hospital and another missing. She didn’t think her heart could take it if another child of hers got hurt too.
“Mom, everything is fine. Alex is in my ear right now.”
“What mom and dad are there?” Ivan turned the earpiece off so not to have Alex blabbing in his ear.
“And James, Arne are on the other side. We got this. Now you are here we are golden.” Ivan started dancing around his mother making her glare at him. Which just made him laugher harder. Nat noticed what he was wearing and almost teared up, but she was Russian, and they didn’t do that.
“Is that your Uncle Clint’s suit?” Ivan stopped and pulled out the bow he found in the weapons room and strung a bow to mimic his uncle.
“Yeah, it was either this or your old suit. I might have the figure, but I couldn’t pull of the skintight cat suit if I wanted to.” Bucky laughed and came forward clapping a hand onto his shoulder.
“Just got word from Steve and they found James and Arne. They said to meet them in the center. Thor and Bruce are already there.” Panic rose into Freya’s chest. She’s going to get into so much trouble.
They all met in the center. The new avengers and the old avengers. The superheroes of the past looked in awe at their children. Neither of them thought they would live long enough to see a legacy they didn’t try for. It just happens. James was Captain America, Arne was the god, Ivan was Hawkeye, Freya was a Valkyrie, Kat was Black Widow. Thor walked of Arne. Both intensely looking at each other; then Thor smiled pulling him in for a hug. If you couldn’t tell this family was a hugger and Thor was the worst.
“Son, I’ve missed you so much. I’m sorry for my behavior and to prove that every word I said was wrong I am giving you Mjölnir.”
“Are you sure I’m even worthy to carry it?”
“You were worthy since you were born. A great warrior, a great son, and even better sibling and friend. You might not want the throne but that doesn’t make you less worthy. It is my honor to pass it on.” Thor stuck out the hammer and Arne took it lifting it up with easy. He could feel lighting course through his veins. Power was finally unlocked in him.
“Steve what’s next? This place is empty.” Steve turned and looked at James. This was his mission and Steve weren’t about to take over. James mouthed are you sure. Steve nodded.
“Yes, Uncle Buck, this place is empty. This is where Kat was shot and we last Ana. Now it looks like there is no trace of them even being here. I say we go back to the compound and regroup as a team.” Also check on Kat he wanted to add.
Kat blinked her eyes open slowly. She squinted her eyes, there was a figure in front of her that she couldn’t quite figure out. She blinked again and could see a dark hair. Then the figure walked to her bending down near her. The man picked up her hand running his fingertips along her palm. Then he spoke. They were at first soft rumbles then picked up to actually conversations.
“So, we went back to base and it was empty. It was cool though my pops let me lead the whole Avengers team. Go, I’m a twenty-four-year-old man and I’m still seeking approval. Oh, you should see your parents in action. It was amazing. We were ambush on our way to the jet and the way they had sprung into action.” Kat now knew it was James. Sweet James. She closed her eyes fully and smiled as he talked about his mission. He never got excited like this and it was nice hearing the joy in his voice.
“I just knew I had to come and tell you first. Also had to make sure you were better. Heard you woke up. I’m sorry I wasn’t here when you did.” There was a knock at the door and James turned around to see Arne standing in the doorway. James stood up and walked over to him leaving Kat alone in the room again. She drifted back off to sleep still feeling the faded touch of his fingers.
“Sorry, for pulling you away. Your dad said he needed you.” James stared at him not sure if he believed him, but James wasn’t going to start a fight. His friend was allowed sometime alone with a friend.
Arne waited until James was long gone before he walked into the room. He stood in the back not wanting to get to close. Arne felt uncomfortable seeing Kat laying in a bed half dead especially since he hadn’t spoken to her since she left over a year ago. He only wanted to say one thing.
“I promise to get her back.” Arne turn out of the room living her to rest. All he wanted to know was that she was okay.

Usually on any other given day, the gold headband would feel tight and give you a headache. Though today seemed to be a different case. You didn’t feel the tightness of the band nor did you feel the throbbing of your head. All you felt was excitement.
Seven(7) years had flown by since your first day at Hogwarts and now here you were, playing your last Quidditch game ever. Well, just at Hogwarts. You figured you’d try to be a seeker for a professional team after school. However, you had figured that Professor Snape would not be happy with that answer.
He had always wanted you to persue potions; whether that included being his assistant or just something that included your gift of potions. That man had been your guide to the subject, refusing to see one look of struggle on your face. Severus Snape made sacrifices(at first, his patience) for you, then he knew these sacrifices had the most positive outcomes.
Never had he thought that staying after an extra hour to help you would make him see the light and love for potions through another’s eyes. You hadn’t openly expressed how important the subject was to you; Herbology and Charms, even Transfiguration had all been a breeze, yet Potions was one yet to conquer. Severus Snape never knew.
But now he does, and he wouldn’t change it for the world. Snape knew you had some worth, yet he wished he was more open about how proud he was. Feelings had never been his thing; keeping them hidden inside seemed like a better idea. Even so, Snape felt like he could trust you, and that he did. He touched you like he never had any other woman; with love.
Shame never clouded his mind when he touched you, even just a brush of your hair if it came too close to the cauldron. Snape’s heart pulled - no, strained - at the feeling of you but of course, only the law held you back. Graduation was only days away and the both of you couldn’t wait. Anticipation had now become one of your enemies.
Looking at the clock, exactly 24 seconds stood between you and the pitch for you two(2) seekers. Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw/Slytherin/Gryffindor versus Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw/Slytherin/Gryffindor had already started with being an intense game, chasers already getting penalties by other chasers. Keepers for your house kept their stance, ready to decide if they needed a fourth(4th) chaser or no.
Hearing a buzz drifted you out of your trance, hopping onto your broom quickly and making your way onto the field. Some of your fellow teammates had already scored points, but so had the other team. So far, the game was at 30-20, your house. Taking a breath, Madam Hooch made her way into the middle of the pitch and opened the box, quickly seeing the whizzing gold ball fly away.
Meeting eyes with the fellow seeker of the other house, you scurried and made way to find that snitch.
Your house now had possession of the Quaffle, hearing that kid Andre say over the microphone. Gripping onto your broom and pushing forward, you found yourself right behind the other house’s seeker. The snitch whirled off to the left, making itself very close to the columns holding the students. Staying comfortable behind the other seeker, you veered to the right to see how close they were to the snitch.
“Only a couple feet,” you said to yourself, hoping the ball would at least elevate itslelf a bit higher. Glancing down, you saw it was only about a ten(10) foot drop.
As if the snitch read your mind, it suddenly zoomed upwards, catching the other seeker off guard, almost crashing into a column. Laughing, you gripped your broom and flew up vertically then found yourself looking at the snitch upside down. Flipping, you dodged a Quaffle to the face as the other house scored another 10 points. “40-30,” you mumbled, making sure to keep your eyes on the fast ball.
You glanced to your side, seeing the other seeker right there. “Fancy weather up here, huh?” you asked, not hesitating to push them aside. They cursed, “you better watch your back, L/N!”
Pushing them one last time, the other seeker lost their grip on their broom and had to take a stop. With a chuckle, you looked around to find the snitch again; however, it had taken another stroll upwards. Now, you were face to face with all the students on higher ground, seeing a couple teachers stay in the elevated seats.
Your team’s beater had a bludger in hand, ready to knock down a player from the opposite team. Quickly dodging their way, you did a quick 360 to the right with a tight grip on your broom. The snitch was so close and the other seeker was nowhere to be found.
Noticing you were on the long side of the pitch, you decided to give a new idea a shot. Taking a deep breath, you made sure nobody was in your way; seemed like the snitch was doing the same thing. Holding onto the broom carefully, you slowly raised your left leg yet keeping your eyes on the snitch.
With an equal balance and a good eye, you raised your right leg along with your left arm. Only your right arm remained. Hearing gasps all around you had not helped your situation; “let go, let go, let go,” you mumbled, eyes not taking a glance away from the snitch.
Slowly, but carefully, you stood confidently on your broom, finding yourself just inches away from the fast ball.  Taking a step forward on your right foot, you reached a hand out to only feel the wings. You grunted, shifting your right foot to find yourself barely grasping the snitch.
“Come on,” you said to the snitch, leaning forward and just about to grab it until the other seeker shoved you right off your broom.
A yell escaped your lips as you closed your eyes, not currently looking to see what was in your hand. Gasps erupted all around you, students standing on their tip-toes to see if you were alright. Flying through air for only a bit, you were met with a rough but also cushion-y landing, hearing a grunt from below you.
Tired eyes met yours as you finally opened your tightly shut eyes. Brown eyes were filled with concern as you opened your mouth to say something, yet nothing came out.
‘Oh gosh,’ you thought, ‘I just landed on Severus.’
Snape slowly sat up from where he had been thrown back, one hand tightly wrapped around your waist. “Wait, wait,” you said, making him freeze. Everyone had grown silent in the pitch as you glanced around. Your hand had still been closed and the snitch was nowhere to be seen.
A smile made its way onto your face as you felt a flutter in your hand; opening your hand, there it was! The golden snitch flew up from your hand as Madam Hooch blew her whistle, “150 points to Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw/Slytherin/Gryffindor!”
Andre excitedly yelled into the microphone, “that’s the game! Y/N L/N caught the snitch! 150 points to Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw/Slytherin/Gryffindor!”
Cheers from your house and everyone around you made you laugh with joy, realizing you had won your house your last ever Quidditch game. “Congratulations, Miss Y/N,” Snape said, you still very comfortable on his lap with an arm around your waist.
A chuckle left your lips as you carefully brushed a hair from his face, “sorry for landing on you. . .very harshly, might I add.”
With a careful hand, Snape fixed your hair and straightened out your robes, “never an issue. You can land on me anytime.”
Laughing, you ignored the cheering from all the students and teachers about the game. Biting your lip, you giggled and whispered, “fuck it.” With that, you leaned forward and kissed Severus right then and there. No care in your body stopped you, no hesitation whatsoever.
You felt him chuckle within the kiss, tightening his hold on your waist. His long hair came in contact with your face, making you kiss Severus even harder. You no longer wanted to hide, wanted to keep it secret. You loved Severus Snape and gosh, did he love you. If this was how your last Quidditch game ended, you could not wait for Graduation.
