Red and Royal Purple
Sooooooooooo I read the book and then I watched the movie. Safe to say, I LOVED it. Who doesn't want some wholesome gay fluff and smut, I know I do.
For anyone who doesn't know, it's an enemies to lovers romcom about The Prince of England and the son of the US president. I knowwwwww I was screaming.
If you have any interest in reading Red White and Royal Blue and are at an appropriate age for some soft spice, then definitely do!!! It was a real treat!!
Me and Jan are currently obsessed with this movie, sending each other clips back and forth, lol.

I've been out of the bl loop for a while (give or take a year tbh) and I am honestly overwhelmed at all the stuff coming up recently in bl... Is there top five you'd suggest from the past year among thai stuff (the rest bl-producing countries have a manageable lists of releases ig)
Thank you so much for your time and patience! :D
Top 5 Thai BLs from the past year? (2024)
Well it's a contentious field and there has been a lot, so I'll narrow it further and give you 2024 so far, from my personal favorites but specifically ones that I believe added to the zeitgeist in some significant way.
The Sign
YouTube
This show is literally everything (except straight) all at once. It's BL, queer, band of brothers, romcom, erotica, PNR, fated mates, police procedural, fantasy, mystery, suspense, and slasher. It’s the king of genre mash-up chaos. Sure, it's madness but there is genius in it. Was it a crazy unhinged mess +1 roll for damage? Yes. Yes it was. Did it manage to hold all those tangled threads together? No it did not. Was it also a charming, sexy, engaging, non-stop piece of entertainment? Sure thing. I think this show is basically my KinnPorsche, and frankly I’ve been chasing that dragon naga since KP aired. Is it perfect? No. But it was balls to the wall FUN.
Cherry Magic (Thai remake)
Grey
A soft charming warm hug of a show about crushes and mind reading and self worth that really worked for me. With no-fuss execution from a consummate team (at GMMTV) and an OG lead pair (proving why they remain eternal and deserve to grow up). Look, here’s the thing, Cherry Magic is a great Thai BL in its own right - not comparing it to any other iteration. But even when I do compare (and I've seen all the Cherries and read the manga) it stands strong. I, personally, like the Thai BL slightly better than the Japanese live action yaoi, but I think that’s because I just really enjoy Thai BL's style and I LOVE TayNew. Also all the kissing was both present and better in this version. As it should be from Thailand.
Century of Love
Gaga
This is a very pretty drama about a young man who fell in love with a nice girl 100 years ago, and when she died in his arms, he was cursed to live until he could meet her reborn self. Only this time around, she’s reborn into the body of a man. Or is she? I love it when Thailand gets all up in its own historical business and reincarnation and shizz. I like this pair (it’s not DaouOffroad’s fault I didn’t enjoy their first series.) Daou’s wushu is snazzy and we got a unique meet cute. (Erm… Remeet cute? Meet cute 2.0?) Ultimately, this is I Feel You Linger in the Air + First Love Again, rather than (as one might expect) Until We Meet Again or The Director Who Buys Me Dinner. The leads turned in great performances, although Daou outclassed everybody else on that screen. It’s a good story and a great BL and I can’t find any major faults with it beyond a certain level of camp that is sadly endemic to lakorns. It was, to put it succinctly, a VERY ENJOYABLE show.
Wandee Goodday
YouTube
This is the only "typical" BL I'll be recommending on this list and that's because this is such a FUN show. A charming quintessentially modern Thai BL about a doctor and a boxer who start as a one night stand and then fall in love. Great rep for everything from Muay Thai, to safe sex, to FUN sex, to ace, to bisexuality, to smiley kisses, to the first legal gay wedding in a Thai BL. It’s a delight and I enjoyed (almost) every single moment of it. With out question it's best traits are active positive representations of green flag boys, communication, and grown-up relationships but the chemistry is on point too. Highly recommended as one of 2024's best pick-me-ups. (We need it, been a bit of a downer year.)
We Are
iQIYI
If Wandee Goodday is your happy pill, We Are is the warmest hug on the planet. Of the ones on this list, this is the only one I've already rewatched. 2x (High praise!) I loved show. It was slow to find its stride (I didn’t get into it until ep 6) but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. It’s a soft ensemble piece with multiple couples and very little plot, but I didn’t care because it’s not trying to be anything more substantial. Essentially this was a series of vignettes covering one year of uni for a queer friendship group finding love, new friends, and laughter. It’s not being harsh with us or it’s characters the way some offerings of this ilk have been (side eyes Friend Zone and Only Friends) nor did it tumble into Gen Y chaos. In fact, this reminded me more than anything of a refined and elevated Love Sick - just with older characters and occurring within a genre that has matured too. In it's own quiet way, it was groundbreaking. It has that close queer friendship group meets earnest gentleness that made me adore Love Sick and Make It Right so much. In other words, this was Thai BL at its finest, finding it roots again 10 years on, but also stretching upwards and showing us what it could do with that original seed. So? I adored it. Did it blow my mind? No. But it left me smiling and made me belly laugh quite a bit.
I hope you give these 5 a chance.

Thoughts on a Brilliant Minds that felt like Valentine's Day in November (like how places do Christmas In July) and hit me really hard in the feels in a way that felt personal somehow (despite me being a-spec and not a gay man)
great transition into older young Oliver
you can tell they know what they did
nice little Spock motif shenanigans given who she is
I'm worried he's going to have to tell her he's gay
don't flatter yourself Jacob
good to see the show being sex-positive but don't be so sex-positive you miss the problem
speaking of positive I was expecting more awkward and more slow burn, that was fast (more Fleve parallels, they also didn't really slow-burn despite being the kind of procedural couple that normally would)
the girl gets around
I feel like this is reminiscent of some gay romcom
getting shades of Ramona Nowitzki
I'm with Nichols on the fork thing (but I actually have the excuse of low DEX Wolf accused him of)
tests negative so what's the answer
oh shit shit just got real
thankfully it went away on its own
hmm...the plot thickens
little gay romcom montage and I love that song
Ericka feeling really a bit like Annie did in Community S1E11
I was half expecting Van to walk by the window after Jacob
Dana sounding a bit like Garcia (in the way Jacob does Troy)
and how is Whitaker spelled
things just got weirder but at least she isn't that kind of stalkerdoodle
neurosyphilis, never heard of that but didn't expect the kind of weird disorder that'd be the diagnosis of the week to be that easily treatable
same dilemma all over again
obligatory shirtless Jacob in relevant discussion
Dana plays Catan and considers it on par with sex, I like her even more despite being a-spec so I can't compare
not in the elevator (and even though that's only kissing I'm hearing the "We Tapped That Ass All Over This House" song from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in my mind)
bad timing mom
that was not the reaction Wolf was expecting
finding a compromise perhaps in parallel
expecting a "the talk" (and got confirmation it's Landon not Langdon, I swear her nameplate said Langdon the first time)
okay now things got a little weird (and I don't know if this means it's going to go back to slow, they're hitting a Fleve-esque speed bump or Nichols is really the one hiding hurt)
cue Wolf's Big Dramatic Monologue and mom getting a little bit Mother Gothel
not saying she was interested in her that way but didn't Allison's words to Pierce seem a little weird for a patient (even one with their history)
not the guy I was expecting at Ericka's door (and now I'm rotating the idea of future throuple around in my brain again)
you guys just talked about special food orders and watching Star Wars, don't get right to bed and let the food get cold (and what's the name of that needle drop, I can tell it had lyrics but the dialogue kinda drowned them out)
speed bump patched over and there goes "Heartbeats" again something something full circle something something loom of fate (and now whatever us Brilliant Minds fans call ourselves (as I don't know if we should use any term also used for characters like how Librarians fans call themselves LITs) have even more of an "iconic song" in the sense a lot of other fandoms have)

I'll be honest. I didn't expect Red, White and Royal Blue to be this good. I know it was always the number one rec in the gay romance rec lists but I kinda carried a grudge that Boyfriend Material was relegated to number two. I also thought it would be a typical romcom about "yay rich white cis gays" representing the most devastatingly colonizing nations on the planet. I didn't realise one of them would be the biracial grandson of Mexican immigrants. Or that it would be a legitimately beautifully written book with characters that didn't feel like token minorities.
It's an real queer story about identity and politics and tapestries of unacknowledged, suppressed loves reaching across time. Blended families and ambition and duty and authenticity. A moderate and rather thrilling dive into US politics, although a little bit more work into the institutional nature of Buckingham Palace would have been nice, instead of simply making the Queen a stock bigot. The royal family exists in a very precarious yet entrenched power balance with Westminster and the Church, and the queen is herself a sovereign entity managed by a rigid power matrix.
However, while the first half of the book was very funny and lively, I was pretty lukewarm about the pairing itself until the second half. I only felt invested in them after the stakes escalated into an emotional precipice and spiralled into angst and pining and yelling in the rain and "don't you tell me I don't love you bc I can't be with you" "then tell me to leave" and nearly being outed and having state-mandated beards and being miserable and desperate. And I only got gooey because Henry writes emails like the kind of anguished, repressed Victorian poet halfway to manic depression and a laudanum habit. I have to say, the second half of this book really delivers. The actual climax of the book being the 2020 election rather than a dramatic romantic denouement was somehow both unexpected and inevitable. Nothing could ever have come close to the historic experience that was Destiel Putin Total Landscaping 2020 (also it was pretty funny what happened to Nevada in the book vs real life), but the fictional election was still exhilarating. It makes the characters earn their stripes, no pun intended.
This book is first to last a political wish fulfillment fantasy, where the characters openly say, "aren't we glad we're not in some darkest timeline where the USAmerican people betrayed each other right after Obama's term was up?" (Apparently the idea for the book came to the author in mid-2016. Ouch.) Its primary conceit: What if Washington doesn't completely ruin or reject everyone who starts out with good intentions? What if a non-traditionalist union in the '80s turned out a couple of Royal kids who ended up decent people who interrogated their privileges? That most fantastical of premises – that at least a handful of people who attain power and privilege could hold onto their values and compassion. It is, achingly, sorrowingly, the ultimate wish of the disillusioned in the last few years: that just enough people had stepped up where it counted and turned the tide of history. And that they might continue to do so, more often than not.
Overall, a very good, solid, compelling read, far, far better than Love, Simon or whatever else the white cis het mainstream inexplicably latches onto. I won't say better than Boyfriend Material. Alexis Hall is still the better writer. But it's such a completely different book, speaking to a different demographic with different expectations, that it's a chalk and cheese comparison. The London Calling series (Boyfriend Material, Husband Material and the upcoming Father Material) is a quintessentially British romantic comedy with a deeply queer beating heart for an older Millennial audience, interrogating the UK's systemic class and colonial issues, delving into the universalism and diversity of the human condition with richness and complexity. Red, White & Royal Blue is an extremely USAmerican Zillennial fantasy, caught somewhere between YA and US West Wing intrigue with a dash of British glamour— pure escapist pop culture. I might be biased towards LC because I'm its target audience; but the exponentially greater popularity of RW&RB is definitely due to the power of the USAmerican cultural hegemony. I was complaining about fandom refusing to engage with actual queer art and literature before; all of Alexis Hall's work merits only a handful of pages on AO3. RW&RB alone has 154 pages on AO3 no I am not bitter that y'all are tasteless and disgraceful and if that doesn't speak to the power of having a USAmerican base then nothing does.
Edit: THERE'S A BONUS CHAPTER????

Reviews: Homophobic Cop Marries Gay Ghost, President’s Son Gets Together with Prince
Recently watched 2 movies with gay main characters in different genres. One was Red, White & Royal Blue (available on Amazon), one was 🌟 Marry My Dead Body 关于我和鬼变成家人的那件事 (available on Netflix). Spoiler-free thoughts below 😊:
❤️🤍💙 Red, White & Royal Blue is an American romcom. It has a 10/10 trailer—incredibly inviting. The movie depicts many women in power, I love that! Many witty jokes, nice! The movie might be better if it were a drama series instead; to save time, it zoomed through the falling-in-love part with the use of text messages—the production team packaged that as well as they could, but it was still too rushed. The ending left me wondering if there could’ve been a tiny bit more to make it feel more complete. Though the movie doesn’t score as highly as its trailer in my opinion, it’s still a decent movie.
(That reminds me of how That Musical Montage in episode 1 of the Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua made me super keen to watch the rest of the series, but it turns out that that was the best part. Quality-wise, Red, White & Royal Blue is overall better than the TGCF donghua though.)
👻👮♂️💓 Marry My Dead Body is a Taiwanese mystery + comedy + supernatural movie. Let me copy the blurb from Google: “Wu Ming-Han, a straight policeman who is homophobic and ghost-phobic, accidentally picks up a red wedding envelope while collecting evidence. He finds himself betrothed to the envelope's owner Mao Pang-Yu, a gay man who died under mysterious circumstances. The duo must work through their differences and join forces to solve the case, seeking justice for Mao.” (Real-life context: marriages between dead people and live ones are/were an actual thing in Chinese culture.)
I’ve just finished watching this movie, love it! Let me get the “con” out of the way first: I wish the movie ended differently! The ending was not unsatisfying, it’s just that I personally could have been more satisfied.
Okay, now I am free to gush.
This movie is HILARIOUS. Won’t describe the humour here, you can see it in the trailers on YouTube.
I love the unravelling of the mysteries (police cases). The feelings would not have hit half as hard without them and the exploration of Maomao’s non-romantic relationships (formed during his life) after his death. Even though I highly value a good plot apart from the romance when I read/watch something, I like talking about feelings more, so that’s what I’ll do.
I have Intense Feelings about these guys. They went from being Not Keen about getting stuck with each other to being really cute together—I notice that the movie managed to do this EVEN WITHOUT having them hold hands or do anything physical beyond that. That is crazy. Romantic physical contact is great, but if you can show chemistry without it, and with minimal flirting—that is exceptional.
(Side note: I think it would be harder to convincingly depict a heterosexual pair arriving at romantic feelings the way Wu Ming-Han and Maomao did: (partly) through constant banter and trading barbs. A man looking down on a woman would have come across as a lot meaner because the threat that poses is larger in the patriarchal society we live in.)
Wu Minghan went from casually homophobic to being on track for bisexuality for a ghost, such character development. The scene where Wu Minghan genuinely calls Maomao “my husband” for the first time is AMAZING, unexpected. At that moment I was like, oh my god, he loves him. Or at the very least, he has good potential. It had taken a series of hilarious strong-arming, including a close call with the loss of Wu Minghan’s family jewels, to make this dude marry Maomao, but now he’s calling Maomao husband—in that particular state, at that timing. I cried. I was smiling at many points throughout the movie, I also cried at some points. I said something similar when I wrote my review for Merman’s Fall: a book/movie that makes me laugh and cry will go at the top of my favourites list. Unlike my danmei list, my favourite movies list is too short for me to put Marry My Dead Body at the top or bottom, but it’s definitely in there.

June Book Reviews, Part IV
3 romance books, ranging from thanks i hated to that was actually pretty fun!
Oblivious roommate, by Devon Doe
I think this is based off a reddit post about a guy complaining about the guys his rommate brings home only to realise it bothers him cause he likes the guy.
The premise is that the MC is transferring colleges and moving in with his best friend from back home, after a breakup, and upon learning said friend is gay and in relationship has a bit of a existential crisis.
It’s a nice idea, and I certainly enjoyed the reddit post, but the problem in this book is basically that the MC is a giant asshole.
It makes it really hard to root for them as a couple when one is so fuckin immature and behaves in really stupid ways. Which is a shame, cause the other guy seems really nice actually.
But my favourite ships are always the ones where I like everyone involved, and the way he acts is so insecure and ridiculous i’m not sure the couple will really stay together.
He thinks he might be gay and like him so his idea is to trick his friend into kissing him and then lie to him about it? He goes digging around for dirt on the boyfriend cause he thinks “i dont like him and i dont know why so he must be a bad person, so i’ll help my friend get rid of a bad guy and then he’ll be free to be with me!” he actively sabotages his best friend’s relationship
It’s like all those awfully toxic tropes found in het romcoms but this time its gay
I do not recommend this book.
The ex hex, by Rachel Hawkins/ Erin Sterling
3 stars
This book is urban fantasy, an ‘our world but a little bit to the left’ plot, just add a little magic.
It’s set in a small town somewhere in the US, it’s a made up town hidden somewhere in the mountains. I think the location is mentioned but I forget, it hardly matters.
It starts with a young witch who just got her heartbroken and while she and her cousin drown their tears with alcohol they decide to curse the guy who did the breaking.
Fast forward to nine years later when the guy is back in town, and the curse is causing real issues for the town, so they have to work together to fix it and uncover the hidden story of the town’s founding.
The town has sort of a gilmore girls feel so i’m guessing somewhere in new england, it has a witchy reputation they love to play up and actual magic users, including a whole magic faculty in the local university.
It’s sort of a murder mystery cause there is death, and ghosts, and mysteries to solve.
They don’t work particularly hard at the world building tbh. The university has classes on magic, though we don’t get a lot of detail on that.
The MC’s family owns a magic shop that sells both trinkets to tourists and real magic items, the coffee shop runs on subtle magic and sells potions disguised as coffee, stuff like that.
Like the movie practical magic.
It’s all quite wholesome and it’s well done.
And in the middle of it all, the MC and her ex are dealing with rogue magic.
Cause the ex, who is a descendant of the founder, is in town to “charge the lines” but learns quickly upon arriving that his magic is on the fritz and this causes a lot of issues, and his life may be at stake, so they have to fix it, before it hurts someone, and before their founders day festival cause if bad things happen then it could hurt the economy and destroy the masquerade.
It is very entertaining, and funny at times.
It’s no great work of art but it is a good read, if a bit light.
Plus two, by Natasha West
2.5 stars
This is a sequel to “plus one” where a woman is need of a date for her sister’s wedding, after her gf whom she’d talked up, suddenly breaks up with her, so she finds a service that hires people to act as emotional support for big events.
and the woman that shows up to play pretend for a day, is no other than a woman who a decade prior was her first love and first heartbreak.
This book finds them a couple of years later, everything is going smooth until one of their parents brings up the baby talk and it reveals cracks in their seemingly-perfect relationship.
Tbh, i didn’t like it as much as the first one, there is just so much baby talk it gets a bit tired.
What is interesting is how they react to it, how they deal with said baby talk and the issues it presents.

There are SO MANY good books coming out in June!
There are just some of them! As always, check under the cut for more on each~
Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé is the Black, queer private school thriller you've been clamoring for. (Oh, was that just me?) I'm not sure if this is going to be more like dark academia or marginalized horror, but either way I am in.
The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo is a complete dream for people who read The Great Gatsby in high school and thought "this is cool, but when do we get back to Jordan?", such as myself. This is an adaptation focused on a queer, Asian-American Jordan navigating 1920s America as an "exotic woman" instead of an equal.
The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer might be my favorite book of 2021. After having the phenomenal luck to score and read an advanced copy, I can say that this book is best read with as little prior knowledge about the plot as possible. But what I can say, is it's gays in space! And, my God, so much more. Prepare to feel a lot. And then immediately come message me about it.
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston I also was fortunate enough to get a chance to read already! It's the same fantastic character work and writing as in their debut, Red, White & Royal Blue, but this time with sapphics and time travel loops. This is a cute story with a few nice mystery elements, a great cast of roommates/friends, and so much queer history.
Portrait of a Mirror by A. Natasha Joukovsky caters right to my "I studied English and Theatre in college" self with that basic comedy of manners premise, and my "I will never pass up a good retelling, especially about my boy Narcissus" brain (yeah, that one is niche but true). This honestly just seems like a really fun look at modern mythology with 2 couples getting way too intertwined.
The Witch King by H.E. Edgmon is another one I've already read and loved. The basic premise is that a trans witch (someone doubly shunned in the world they're from) who ran off to the human world years ago gets dragged back by his fae fiancée- the future king of all fae. This book is so fun! Pinballing from meme references to woodsy romance tropes to hesitant espionage, it's impossible not to get roped in and honestly? Why would you not want to!
Future Feeling by Joss Lake is a magical-futuristic story that combines three trans men's lives, after one of them tries to hex the other due to gender/transition envy and accidentally gets another pushed into the shadowlands. This book looks like both a really great conversation about being trans and a genuinely really entertaining story of magic and tech. Plus, three trans protagonists.
Love & Other Natural Disasters by Misa Sugiura I also have already read, and can vouch for being a really nice romance. Zo agrees to fake date the obviously perfect for her Willow to get back at Willow's ex, because she knows how these things work- they'll be together for real before the end of the summer. But real life is messier than romcoms, and maybe Zo isn't so sure what she wants in the first place... If you too love fake dating and love fake dating that gets turned on its head, read this book! Plus, it's full of queer WOC, most of which are Asian-American.
The Marvelous by Claire Kann is like an escape the room meets Willy Wonka, all tied together by tiktok. Intrigued? Confused? Pick up this book! I have already read it, and it's worth it. Golden Weekend is always a mysterious event, never spoken about by former attendees, but this year is different- it's the last one before the creator's retirement. And it seems like she wants to go out with a bang that might take everyone else out with her.
Blood Like Magic by Liselle Sambury is another that might wind up one of my absolute favorites of the year, and another magical-futuristic story. Living just on the edge of society's eyes are communities of Black witches, guided by their ancestors and the special powers they give them once they pass the trial tasked to them. Except, Voya doesn't pass her trial. Now she's got one last chance- kill her first love or doom the family. A hard enough choice without the little snag that she doesn't actually have a first love yet. Enter an experimental dating app and her number one match who she can barely stand talking to. Can she actually fall in love with him? And, more importantly, can she kill him?
The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson is the Truly Devious continuation no one expected! Stevie is back, and solving mysteries at summer camp. I absolutely loved Truly Devious and I also happen to love summer camp media, so I'm going nuts thinking about this book. If you love fun mysteries and girl detectives and somehow missed the original series, go binge that! But even if you don't you'll probably enjoy this one by itself.
Violet Ghosts by Leah Thomas I read earlier this year, and is incredibly heavy and possibly triggering. But if you can manage it, it's a genuinely fantastic book! This book follows a teenager whose only friend has been the ghost of a dead girl who believes all men are as terrible as the one who killed her, and whose identity as a trans man is getting harder and harder to ignore.
The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison is the companion novel for The Goblin Emperor, and is coming out at a perfect time because I just managed to finally read TGE about a month ago! (And loved it). Not too much is known about the plot of this book, but it's definitely going to have the same fantasy politics and expansive writing from The Goblin Emperor, as well as the character Celehar!
The Bone Way by Holly J. Underhill is an epic fantasy, sapphic retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice. It's no secret that I am both very queer and very into Orpheus and Eurydice so this is a no brainer for me. It's also apparently surprisingly cozy and whimsical, which ties it all together into something I need, and you probably do too.
Gearbreakers by Zoe Hana Mikuta is kind of like an enemies-to-lovers sapphic Pacific Rim. I read this already, and the visuals are amazing. If you like your sci-fi political, your protags POC, and your robots absolutely gigantic, this is your book.
Happy reading!

As a side note on heartstopper, its such a great show because its actual positive queer rep. Its not about how being queer means suffering which is what we see with most queer rep, its about how being queer can mean happiness and thriving, something I desperately needed to understand as a teenager. I wish I had something like this a few years ago and maybe accepting being gay wouldn't have been so hard for me. Anyway im just really glad it exists as an example for teens and adults.
yes!!!!! that’s what i’ve been saying from the start. i can count on one hand the movies that exist that is about a gay couple and doesn’t involve violence, drugs/drinking addiction, explicit sexual content, abuse, violence or extreme homophobia. i honestly can only name two. and that’s so toxic to see the only representation of a movie focusing on a gay couple is always portrayed to be about serious and adult content. it’s so nice just to have a little, sweet romcom with regular teen problems. and the problems are normal and not extreme. it’s so nice to just have a cute teen romcom with a gay couple like the millions of straight ones that exist. that’s why i think this book/show is such a hit. it’s a lot more than just a sweet storyline. alice ode man is such an incredible storyteller and the actors in the show are incredible. it just feels comfortable and happy. and also there’s amazing representation with there being main characters who are a variety of sexualities and a variety of genders and race and interests and it’s very easy to identify with one character because of this. i know i connect a lot with charlie because there’s specific traits about him and his personality i relate to. and the characters are so detailed that you connect so well. and there is homophobia but it’s not super violent or the main problem of the storyline. it ultimately leads to good and it doesn’t dampen the mood like most gay movies with homophobia do. i could talk for so long about why this show/book is so good and how impactful it is outside of just the story. tiktok is awful, but i’ve seen thousands of people who connect deeply with this story. people getting really emotional watching it. mostly lgbt+ teens. people talk about themes and concepts in it and break down and observe the story closely and literally spending their time doing fucking literary analysis of this shit. i get especially to a cishet person this sounds like overkill on my end, but the impact this story has on every viewer is so cool to see. i didn’t mean for this to turn into a rant and i refuse to reread this so good luck. i just really love this story and i don’t shut up

wwdits s4 thoughts (spoilers)
I didn’t start till October so I knew some stuff through my dash, very glad I saw the post where the interviewers said Guillermo and Nador wouldn’t get together to set my expectations after OFMD
The djinn is a really fun character
Glad The Guide is more of a main character the series needed another female character.
Marhwa is one of the most sympathetic characters in the show, peak she deserves better than this dude
I saw that Guillermo embezzles from the club in a LOT of posts because it was cute to see him take care of his parents. But it’s still heavily implied from this early ep.
The season is really clear in setting up each character's motivation and character arc.
Nadja’s arc has been my favorite. Lmao to the way she said “kill them all” to solve her workers unionizing.
Lazlo’s struggles of fatherhood where he’s a bad dad in different ways has been my least favorite. But then again I don’t want kids so I’m not interested in parenting subplots.
Guillermo FaceTiming someone twice is notable, only people he pays this much attention to outside of the vamps and family is a potential victim. But this is a very different vibe
Nador vs Guillermo fight is even more tense and charged than last season. Even after rewatching I'm confused at what parts of the fight they were staging for escape versus actually into beating the other
Nadja union busting through narcotic bribery, Nadja’s always been a fuck you got mine "girlboss", especially when her power is being challenged. Nice that it didn't work, workers unite!
The parent interview was just too much cringe comedy for me
Love Guillermo’s jewel tone jacket outfit. Hope there's a post that points out all the designer items
Wedding episode had an ad that I noted down since I was watching ad-free. Clever trick it was for the go flip yourself tv show in universe.
Everyone looks so nice in their wedding outfits. Costuming in this show has always been great and its easy to overlook it
I was trying to pin why Guillermo seems so different this season, and I really think it is that he found confidence and is less desperate . Other characters are respecting him more too.
Nandor made peak cursed wish with “like the same things I like” I was confused until the end of the season if he immediately wasted 2/3 wishes instead of fixing that wish since he obviously seemed so uncomfortable with it
“Because I’m gay” holy shit! Such an emotional moment, yeah the family always knew but still it’s such an impactful moment. The show has had a range of queer characters but it's often more played for laughs while this is more heartfelt. I'm old enough it's also a brief moment of "wow things have come so far"
Lmao at the cliche home renovation episode, I love when a tv show adopts the visual style of another genre of show (like Leverage "The office job"). I deeply enjoy home renovation shows, good or bad they're only reality tv I enjoy. I think it's my favorite episode in the show, and I genuinely wasn't expecting Simon the Devious.
Maybe because I am watching these all at once that the heavy parody parts of each episode stick out. Guillermo being the overworked friend planning the wedding is a romcom classing. The Baron doing the cliche makeover montage.
Wow so Freddie gave the business card as if he's trying to buy valuable antiques from someone he thinks is senile, and Nador is fine cheating and being a home wrecker to meet up. hmm
Wait Marhwa ends that episode overwritten and basically dead in body and mind?! Freddie is a cheater! I feel really bad for Guillermo, ESH but him
Holy shit sunrise and sunset the song from Fiddler. As a theater nerd I know this ep is going to be sad also wow Matt berry can sing
Colin feeding on anger makes sense, I though he was being annoying at times but chalked that up to finding all kids annoying, but you can farm a lot of anger as an annoying kid.
Classic that Nadja got so proud her arrogance led to the club's downfall. Very short-sighted she didn't take the money out before the arson for insurance fraud.
Colin back to himself with no memory nothing changed. Hmm did the experience of being a parent change Lazlo?
Guillermo spent a year of his life devoted to things that as he put it didnt change. The reasons he gave in first episode for not walking out didn't amount to anything in the end
GUILLERMO BUYING HIS WAY INTO VAMPRIISM FUCK YEAH. he's really changed since season 1. The chorus ending is pretty great.
I’d rate it 2nd best season behind last season, major points lost because I liked Marhwa and I’m sad what happens to her. I'm not judging Nandor's actions this season as morally "worse" than the others, but being shitty to your SO is more relatable and personal.
Wow for the first time I’m interested in fanfic for this show starting with “different choices canon divergence” au and “picks up right where season ended” since next season will prob start with a timeskip.

What Saphic TV Shows and Movies to Watch on the Holidays Part 1
For 🥧 Thanksgiving🦃
Movies
What better way to get in the holiday spirit than to watch a lesbian Christmas movie? Begin your holiday season with Happiest Season. Watch winter romcom Imagine me and You because romcoms are a must this time of year. Finish off with Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, about an Indian family accepting their daughter's sexuality (and female romantic partner) to really feel grateful.
TV
Thanksgiving is a good time for period dramas and you don't have to watch pilgrim stories. You can watch Emily Dickinson kiss a girl in Dickinson.
Elsewhere, replace the animated Grinch Who Stole Christmas with another animated special: Adventure Time Obsidian and watch princesses Bubblegum and Marceline live their love instead.
It's Thanksgiving though so a nice family comedy like Never Have I Ever is also in order.
For ⛄ Christmas 🎄
Movies
So, here's how to replace all the Christmas classics with ✨the gay✨
No need for It's a Wonderful Life. Carol is of course the quintessential lesbian Christmas movie. It's Christmas and two women in beautiful period attire fall in love. What else can a girl ask for?
Christmas is a religious holiday as well though, skip the religious movies usually on during the season and watch Disobedience. A movie about how an orthodox Jewish community can keep two women who love each other apart with its strict rules.
Wanna watch several couples get together during Christmas but not the 100% straight Love Actually? Make it gay with Let it Snow.
To finish off, instead of watching The Nutcracker take a crack at a modern day musical that might not take place during Christmas but it is a celebration, The Prom.
TV
On the TV front, how about you don't watch A Charlie Brown Christmas for the 100th time and binge Steven Universe? Gems fighting for good and falling in love (Christmas episode included) is the perfect holiday viewing experience. The obligatory period piece can be enjoyed with the amazing Fingersmith and Christmas family comedy Merry happy Whatever is one fun season of family + gay coming out.
For 🍾New Years 🎇
Movies
New Years is a time when everything needs to feel new and fun. Enjoy a silly comedy in Blockers. One of the three girl leads is gay and has a cool story. For something a little more heartfelt go with Hearts Beat Loud and for the new beginning of self acceptance give The Half of it a watch.
TV
Wanna binge your way to the new year? Start the year with a look into the future in The Wilds, continue with futuristic escapism in Legends of Tomorrow and end your binge with a realistic portrayal of young lesbian love in Skins.
For 💝Valentine's Day 💌
Movies
It's Valentine's Day, romance is on demand. Most people prefer a nice romantic comedy and that's exactly what you are gonna get with Nina's Heavenly Delights. For silly romance go with DEBS. Finally, if you prefer a romantic drama The World to Come is brilliant.
TV
On the TV side of things, you have to check out True love or True lies season 2! It is a reality dating show like no other and the lesbian couple in season 2 are everything. Skam España season 2 is so romantic you are going to get invested. The Fosters on the other hand is the gay family you may dream of on a day like this.
For 🎃 Halloween 🎃
Movies
Halloween is the time for wlw. We thrive in the alternative. Spook yourself with Make Up, a young woman's a mysterious obsession with the girl she suspects her boyfriend is cheating with. Hint: it's not all tgat mysterious 😉
Watch lesbian vampire love in Carmilla, 2019 and Mother May I Sleep With danger for more generic fun.
TV
What is Halloween without lesbian couples dressed as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy? You have to watch Harley Quinn animated series! They get together in an epic way! You will also want your gay and bi witches so don't forget to watch The Owl House. No Halloween for a wlw will ever be complete again without the obligatory viewing of lesbian haunting romance The Haunting of Bly Manor.

been trying to find a good place to create discourse on bl but not even reddit or mydramalist can satisfy me so i look to you!
There's this discourse on twitter recently where Alice Oseman's, the author of netlix's new western bl called "Heartstopper," old comments resurfaced regarding her thoughts on bl. Needless to say, it was met with a lot of tweets where it was between western BL and Asian BL. The problem here was that Alice Oseman's comments pointed out that some Asian BL's or "yaoi" were "fetishistic" and HeartStopper tries to avoid that, and while I agree that some BL's do have that kind of theme, it's not really nice to generalize all of them into that one category. Lots of Asian BL's have done more than what western BL's have. But what do you think? Was Alice Oseman correct when she said that Asian BLs are seen as a "fetish?" Are western BL's more progressive when it comes to BL's?
Is Heartstopper Even BL?
I haven't watched Heartstopper and it was partly this discourse that made me not want to. I question, from the outset using “BL” as a term to market Heartstopper at all. (And I do think the producers and distributors are using it to MARKET it.) For comparison, would we call Love, Simon a BL? Because I would not. I’d call it a gay YA romance. But I bet if that movie were releasing right now they’d market it as BL, and that’s ehhh... disingenuous? Having still NOT seen Heartstopper I’m temped to call it being touted as BL the same. Because if they (author/production/director) correct for all the things they’ve decided are “wrong” with Asian BL (or “wrong” with yaoi) in a Western narrative... feels a bit white-washy but also maybe cultural appropriation? Why call it BL or reference said BL at all, if you do that? You’ve made something else, haven’t you?
(Please I just don’t want to watch it. I’m scared of being annoyed by exactly this, but if we keep talking about it I might have to. Sigh.)
But all that said, there is a lot of problematic content in a lot of origin yaoi (not all of it, of course) and early BL (actually, yeah, most of it), especially from a queer perspective.
So it’s hellishly complicated and highly nuanced and fraught battlefield.
(Once more, tho, I object to the word “fetish” being used regardless.)
All that said, there is also the need to consider separating the Heartstopper series and its marketing and production from the artist author’s original intention, content, and inspiration. Because the nature of authorial intent is an entirely different conversation, and whether art can or should be separated from its artist etc... And for that I’d have to read the original Heartstopper graphic novel and I am unequivocally not going to do that. (I’m sorry but I do NOT like her art style AT ALL.)
All that to say, we have another conflation problem on our hands, if you ask me: a conflation of Western gay YA romance/romcoms with Asian BL with origin yaoi. I don’t think they’re equivalent simply because they tackle similar base-level content of two boys-of-a-certain age falling in love. Nor do I think they are necessarily equivalent because they are both adaptations of gay narratives from graphic to screen.
To your questions, I think I tackle much of how I personally feel about it in these posts :
This one on fetishization
This one on the difficult things about BL (like dub con)
This one on linguistic and cultural differences around notions of queerness
And this one: Will BL Get More Honestly Queer?
And, here to support your statement “not all BL,” is a list of BLs that are honest to the queer experience IMHO.
Now if those who HAVE watched Heartstopper would like to weigh in, the discourse can commence. But keep it polite and intellectual please, or I will turn this post private in a pink milk minute.

Have you seen the GMMTV 2023 trailers? Any you like? I am so ready for ‘only friends’
oh MAN have i see the trailers?? I've seen i'd like to say a good majority of them, although i don't actually know how many there are lmaoo. i've been doing nothing all day except spamming the discord with links and screaming about the upcoming shows. so let me just list out the trailers i've seen, and then i'll just say in a line or so what I think:
Midnight Museum - it's giving Night at the Museum meets Hotel del Luna, and that's all I have to say about it. Not my cup of tea, probably won't watch it, Gun stans go ham
Double Savage - YES. YES. YEEEEEEEEES. Besties Perth and Ohm are in a series together as brothers, and there's the age old conflict of family vs moral civic duty, heart vs mind, and I wouldn't trust anyone else to carry it out. Ohm and Perth are probably some of my favourite actors, and it's such an incredible way for them to flex their acting chops, also knowing they're friends and could trust each other when acting with one another. LETS GOOOOOOO
A Boss and A Babe (BL)- what is this title. What in the wattpad, Office AU, boss-and-secretary-but-Make-It-Gay headass is this. I'm not a ForceBook person anyways, so I will not be watching this cheese cringefest, as long as they're enjoying themselves. it's a no from me dawg
Enigma - this is for all the horror/psychological thriller girlies out there. I won't be watching this bc i'm not good with horror, but i'm excited to see Win in a role unlike any he's played before, full of enigmatic (hehe) charm.
Last Twilight (BL) - It's giving that Me Before You, Bucket List before going blind, fault in our stars energy, honestly I'm pretty ambivalent about it. JimmySea are cute together tho
Wednesday Club - messy messy messy. a group of friends who don't like each other and all full of *secrets* because it's cool to not be a nice person i guess. everyone needs therapy.
Dangerous Romance (BL) - gotta say i'm surprised by this, i have a love-hate relationship with this one. don't like that it's set in highschool, wasn't expecting perth to be in another BL, wasn't actually expecting it to be with chimon despite the rumors. however, Perth is so good at this, he and Chimon are such good friends, I might just give it a shot. As much as I love Perth, Chimon is shining in this one. Hard to go wrong with a classic enemies-to-lovers
Hidden Agenda (BL) - This feels so bloody basic and derivative. Dunk is playing a nerd (except he's hot), Joong is reprising his role from Star and Sky, it's giving reverse 2gether, Podd and Guy are There for some reason??? I really like Joong but give my man some better roles. I'll still watch it tho
The Jungle - GMMTV said 'Diversely Yours' and then gave us a multi-starrer of several toxic men being the actual worst, and a bunch of women looking at them going 'I could fix him', and then gmmtv said 'here you go here's your diversity and representation'. No comment
Cooking Crush (BL) - OffGun Chef + Doctor AU. I can't particularly see a plot here so far, and I feel like offgun's strength lies outside the romcom genre, but that's just me tee hee ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Probably good mindless entertainment for babiis
Beauty Newbie - Remake of My ID is Gangnam Beauty. I don't have anything to say about this
23.5 (GL) - FINALLY gmmtv's first proper GL, and it's with MilkLove (as they deserve!!!) it's giving that soft sapphic pining and love, full of euphemism and metaphor, and i can't wait to see how it turns out. if we can have main BL with a side GL, then we can have a main GL with a side BL, that's equal rights babey
Loneliness Society - Remake of While You Were Sleeping. Again, as with all remakes, I have nothing to say
Our Skyy 2 - PATPRAN!!! PHUTIAN!! ITS THE RETURN OF OUR KINGS!!! (i'm also excited at the implication of Never Let Me Go finally finishing filming soon so that it airs before this one, i've been waiting for it all year esp since it was apparently supposed to air this september) And finally...
Only Friends - The ultimate mess. I made a flow chart just to be able to try and sort out the mess of relationships just in the trailer, and all I can say is I know this show is going to be a wild freaking ride, from start to finish. Neo is the drama, KhaoFirst have the best chemistry in the cast, and this is going to bang. Period
TLDR I'm most excited for/most likely to watch Double Savage, Our Skyy 2, Dangerous Romance, Only Friends, 23.5, Hidden Agenda
(I know this long ass post isn't what you asked for, but it's what you're getting)
BONUS
Never Let Me Go (Finally airing in 2023 hopefully)
Moonlight Chicken (Finally airing soon, either end 2022 or early 2023)
The Interest (new movie with Bright and Yaya)
#i hope you can tell i haven't done spend a gotdamn second of my time today productively#instead i've spent all day doing this#lost in the gmmtv sauce#gmmtv#gmmtv 2023#thai drama#thai bl#ask#midnight museum#double savage#a boss and a babe#enigma#last twilight#wednesday club#dangerous romance#hidden agenda#the jungle#cooking crush#beauty newbie#23.5#loneliness society#our skyy 2#only friends#khaotung thanawat#first kanaphan#perthchimon#forcebook#khaofirst#joongdunk#offgun

Quick disclaimer: I’m a romance writer in all aspects of the term, so most of my works will contain mature content. Engage at your own risk, you know the rules, you’re responsible for curating your own experience of the internet, blah blah blah.
This post serves as a current mock up of fic ideas I’m either actively working on or considering working on next. You can drop me an ask about any of them, or just vote via the emoji combo I’ve assigned them.
Voting lets me know you’re excited about an idea and makes it more likely I’ll actually work on it. You can vote anytime, there’re no deadlines or winner announcements, just me gauging your interest by what I see in my ask box most often.
You can also ask me about the original stuff I’m working on currently. The current WIPs are Medusa centric and the emoji for them is: 🐍
Support my original work on Ko-fi and Patreon.
- Lupin: 🤑🤠💍 These are all oneshot ideas, between 5-15K each. If you want to vote for a specific idea, send me the emojis and the number of the idea.
Born from the idea that Goemon and Zenigata probably couldn’t be an item, my brain decided to come up with how I could write for them. Goemon’s teaching an ikebana class as part of his training, and Zenigata shows up as a student on forced recreational leave for his health from the ICPO. Zenigata wins the samurai’s heart through flowers. But what happens when Lupin and Jigen find out? (Only good sexy things, I promise. These beans are in a healthy polycule--be gay, do crimes) (WIP)
Jigen/Lupin, but it's Jigen deciding to seduce Lupin while wearing his own Lupin disguise. The thief is waaaaay too into it, and some artistry is taken with the sex so that they don't mess up the disguise too much during their encoutner.
Jigen/Zenigata/Lupin where Jigen has some fantasices about Zenigata, but is pretty sure they'll never happen. Tells Lupin about them. Suddenly the fantasies are coming true, in the middle of a heist, and Jigen doesn't what to do except get swept up in the moment and enjoy. Plot twist, it's Lupin dressed up as Zenigata granting all his gunman's dreams. Plot twist again, Zenigata catches them at it.
Zenigata/Lupin, where Lupin keeps doing good things in illegal ways and Pops has to find a way to punish him for it. Good thing for Pops Lupin's a masochist?
Trans!Lupin and Trans!Jigen premise: Jigen cares for Lupin after the master thief has top surgery, since Jigen has Been There and Done That. Caring, sweet, and a little sexy. Lupin is a much better patient than Jigen.
The one time Zenigata caught Lupin in an alley and kissed him and it was Jigen in disguise. Things get sexy anyway, and Zenigata has crushes on two thieves now. Lupin and Jigen "kidnap" him later for an evening of taking care of their inspector.
The background plot of Jigen's Gravestone where we see Jigen think he's done for and try to leave Lupin. Our thief has none of it, and we get to relish in the inherent eroticism of Lupin sitting in sniper fire, knowing Jigen's got his back. This is the moment I think Jigen finally believes he can be with Lupin forever.
I love the idea of something longer and more plot driven like a Lupin special where Lupin ends up in hot water and Jigen and Fujiko have to work together to save him. Jigen and Fujiko have such an interesting relationship. They're both partners of Lupin, they don't really like each other, they constantly screw the other over, but when it really matters they take care of each other. I'd like to see that highlighted a little more and also give them space to call each other out and bicker. Nothing sexy between them, but maybe a really interesting threesome with Lupin and Fujiko in a strap on once they save their boy.
- Sonic Vampire Novelist Coffee Shop AU: 📚☕💐
Shadow is an immortal vampire who has seen the world change for the worse too many times. These days it feels like he only lives for his coffee dates with Rouge, another immortal who loves each new era they encounter, warts and all. He has to admit that the book series she got him into speaks to him, at least. If someone in this era can understand him without meeting him, it can’t all be bad. But he hardly expected the goofy blue barista at the new coffee place to understand him the way those books do.
This is a novel length romcom romp with some big feelings about what it means to watch as things change, grow, and die. Expect lots of Big gothic feelings from this one, emotionally charged kissing, and overly-adoring sex. But also expect shenanigans from everyone in the coffee shop, which include Rouge, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Cream, and more.
- Sonic Blazamy, "Like the Sun": 💖🌸💎
Amy Rose has been in love with Sonic for a while.
Or has she?
When the Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver are trapped as the fuel sources for Doctor Eggman’s newest evil scheme, Amy teams up with Blaze, Rouge, and Cream to save them. With Sonic out of the picture and Amy fulfilling his role, was she ever really in love with him? Or did she just want to be like him?
This is a novel length epic romance with lots of competent women and lots of romantic Blazamy content. Expect flowery hopes and dreams, badass self-actualization, and glancing hand touches that give way to cuddly and sweet sex.
- Persona 5: 🗡🍛☕
After bringing down the Metaverse twice, Ryuji didn’t think graduating high school and figuring out what to do with his life would be so hard. Akira’s back in town, and the gang’s more-or-less all in Tokyo, but everyone else seems to have a plan while Ryuji just floats. How’s he supposed to change the world when he’s not a phantom thief anymore?
This is a novel length fic that addresses how powerless one can feel being just one person in the face of all the corrupted systems and bigotry the world has to offer. It’s about holding on to what you believe in, working through the doubt, and fighting your way to a better tomorrow with the power you do have. The whole gang is queer, featured relationships being Mako x Ann, Ryuji x Akira, Futaba & Yusuke as platonic life partners. Akira is polyamorous and omnisexual, Futaba’s asexual and aromantic while Yusuke is demisexual and very romantic, Makoto’s a lesbian, Ann and Ryuji are bi, and Haru’s pansexual, demisexual, and aromantic. They’re one giant band of queer Phantom Thieves, and even if they’re not really doing the Metaverse thing anymore, they’re still gonna save the world!
Also, I’m gonna make Makoto not a cop. That super didn’t age well. Zenkichi and his boss can work on making them better/abolishing them for other better organizations.
- Hades Game: ❤️🔥💀
Oneshot. I just really need to elaborate on the threesome you can have with them in-game, okay? Healthy and canon poly relationships are so few and far between, so often I have to do a ton of groundwork to explain why it’s working in the fic, but NOT WITH THESE KIDS!
Get ready for Meg helping Zag and Than be better at expressing their feelings, lots of kissing, and probably pegging.
- Castlevania Animation Trevor/Sypha/Alucard: 🧛🏰🛌
Castlevania gave Alucard a threesome last season, and I just really need S4 to give me him being taken care of by his partners. They’re probably not going to give it to me, so I’ll need to do it myself. This is just an everybody loves Alucard oneshot, with the gang’s signature banter (to an extent), Sypha being sexy, and Trever being remarkably sincere. This fic is gonna feel like that Ann Hathaway picture with Trevor kissing Alucard and Sypha holding the end of Trevor’s whip while she leans her head on Alucard’s shoulder adoringly.
- Devil May Cry Nico/Lady/Trish: 💋✨😈
Nico’s gay, okay? Like really, really gay. And Lady’s bi and not into men who make her pay bills, but very into women who make amazing guns for her and demonesses with hearts who fight by her side. Trish is ace, but loves people and is pretty attached to Lady at this point. Plus it’s cute when Lady blushes and says nice things like they’re insults. I don’t have super solid ideas for them yet, and I envision these more like a polycule where Lady’s with Nico and with Trish but they’re not with each other more than seeing it as a threesome, but who knows what might happen. This is probably 1-2 oneshots depending on ideas, but might turn into a series of oneshots if people are interested (or I can’t control myself and inspiration strikes).
- Post FMA:B Blind Roy & No Alchemy Ed: 👀👑🙏
This is actually an old novel-length fic I wrote ages ago and didn’t post that didn’t turn out well because I was new to writing sex when I first wrote it. The plot is good, and is all about Roy learning to work with his blindness to reclaim his ambition of being Fuhrer and changing the system to something that actually cares for its people. He and Ed reconnect, fall into bed, and both set about working through their respective traumas about being “useless” having lost their sight/alchemy. They go to Xing as an ambassadorial party to offer Amestris’s collaboration on Al and May’s Alkahestry experiments--and uncover a plot that might threaten both kingdoms.
- Age of Calamity continuity Mipha x Revali: 🦚🐟💘
The first time Revali noticed Mipha, it was in the heat of battle. She stole his mark, taking them down with a flurry of quick blows from her spear. Violence rained from her like water--and then she healed him on her way to her next battle. No questions, no conditions, just pure kindness. The usual need to measure himself against those around him was quiet in her wake. And Revali couldn’t understand it. But how to get to know more about her? A fish and bird may fall in love, but where would they live?
This fic could be a oneshot or novel length depending on how far down the hole I fall. I need it to cover time, but it could be done in linked vignettes or with actually covering events in detail. I may elect to do a oneshot just to get it done and out of my system faster. So much fic to write, so little time.
Expect trans!Revali, polyamorous Zoras, scary competent Mipha, songbird Revali, love confessions that are made up entirely of berating Link for not loving Mipha the way she wants him to, and breaking these characters a little outside of their assigned roles in BotW and Age of Calamity. Background Link x Zelda, and Urbosa x Zelda’s Mom.
- Epic desert romance about Urbosa and Zelda’s mom: 🏜🏝⚡
I just think Urbosa should kiss women and Zelda’s mom should get more development and maybe a name or something. Also, lightning imagery/metaphors/play.
It also went way over my head that Riju wasn’t Urbosa’s daughter the first time I played BotW, so now I want to write about the Gerudo queen who refused to produce an heir. The Gerudo are fascinating and have a very interesting cutlure, but I think it could be examined from a nonbinary perspective that rejected pregnancy and wanting to find a husband. Not in like a hateful way, but in a way that examines if that’s really right for everyone. There’s that shop in town that sells Voe armor, after all. Maybe finding a husband and having children isn’t something you have to do if you don’t want to. And Urbosa really doesn’t want to.

Alright I feel bad about not expressing how much I love this movie so I made a list of some of my favorite moments/details:
Emma looking like she’s gonna cry after they announce they are canceling the prom and all the reporters are swarming her
The Eleanor musical costume and theater bits
Very grateful that they changed that line at the end of ‘Changing Lives (Reprise)’
Trent wearing his Julliard shirt for (almost) the entire movie
Just before ‘Just Breathe’ When Alyssa walks by and the two of them just look at each other like: 😍
THE GODSPELL BUS
Barry and DeeDee talking about the cellphone incident
Hawkins’ reactions throughout ‘It’s Not About Me’
Literally any of Emma’s outfits
I actually enjoyed James Corden as Barry more than I thought I would (definitely still have strong opinions on Barry’s portrayal & story line though)
‘Dance with You’ was ADORABLE, the flowers and the spinning just 🥰
Are we not going to talk about Emma doing the little come here gesture near the end of ‘Dance with You”???
The almost kiss + Emma’s lovesick stare when Alyssa walks away
The delivery of “well this isn’t america this is indiana!” was on point and the PTA’s reactions made it even better
‘The Acceptance Song’ plus the scenes right before and after were very funny (even if they did cut it short)
“Apples and Bees”
‘We Look to You’ was awesome, seeing Swallow the Moon and DeeDee preforming was a great visual that you can’t get in stage musicals
BETSY NOLAN!! i love her, what an icon
We got to see Emma’s truck!
The shopping montage was really fun (remember when we could go outside?)
The school parking lot being empty and even if you’ve never seen the stage musical you know something is about to go wrong even before it’s mentioned (it hurt but I loved it)
ANGIE WIPING AWAY A TEAR AFTER EMMA TELLS HER SHES A GOOD FRIEND
Angie & Emma, their entire dynamic
THEY KEPT THE FANCY ICECREAM LINE
Emma clearly going through a bit of gay panic during ‘Zazz’
“Blueberry heart”
The romcom scene with DeeDee and Barry was really sweet (even if it did take away from Emma & Alyssa’s time) and Corden’s acting was fantastic
At first I was disappointed with the lack of the iconic ‘Lady’s Improving’ outfit but then we got more of Swallow the Moon and it was worth it
“Not charging for an apology is not a selfless act” “ What the hell?”
again the hesitant, “apples and bees?”
Emma and Alyssa holding hands during ‘Alyssa Greene’
That last line of the song being sung while Emma is walking away from her (again it hurt but it was good)
‘Love Thy Neighbor’ being as iconic and high energy as always
Andrew Rannells was an amazing Trent
THEY KEPT THE TAMBOURINES
Dramatic use of water foutains
DeeDee and Hawkins smiling and having a good time as they’re getting out of the elevator was so cute
The whole bit where Emma tells DeeDee that she won’t go on tv
“YOU OWE ME A HOUSE” “SHES A VERY PASSIONATE WOMAN”
‘Barry is Going to Prom” was really good and I liked seeing young Barry the whole thing was so well done
UNRULY HEART
IT ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY BUT STILL
THEY WERE ALL SO REAL AND RELATABLE???
i could rant about it for hours so i have to move on before i get distracted
DeeDee hiding when she knows they’re going to ask for money
Okay,,, the scene they added with Barry and his mom
I have very mixed feelings about that whole plot line but im trying to stay positive
The acting was phenomenal and very real so kudos to them
The way that Alyssa says “Well I think it’s brave” (honestly even though her development isn’t as obvious as in the stage version (at least to me) I love those moments where you can see her growing and getting ready to just be herself)
Hawkins and the flowers
“You guys are the best middle age people I’ve ever met” First of all, I know for a fact that the bar is on the floor, second of all their reactions kill me
I once again have mixed feelings, this time about the coming out scene because it not being as public took away from the impact it had and how nerve wracking it would have been for Alyssa as well as Barry’s speech to Mrs. Greene not happening
BUT STAYING POSITIVE: Kerry and Ariana’s acting was soo good (return of good but it hurt)
ALSO angies face while she was watching it go down :O
When Alyssa goes to try and hug her mom but she moves away: >:O
When Alyssa hugs Emma in front of everyone: :D
Emma holding the back of her head was 🥺
Emma and Alyssa walking into the empty gym but this time they are together and it’s only empty caus they are early, its a nice little parallel that I just noticed
another small detail that I saw was Alyssa being the one to reach for Emma’s hand before they walk in
Emma going around and hugging everyone at the start of ‘It’s Time to Dance’
THEM DOING THE SPINNY THING THAT THEY DID DURING ‘DANCE WITH YOU” AGAIN
Anything Angie did throughout the entire movie was just *chefs kiss*
All the couples coming in is always adorable but this was even better
also the wide range within the couples was also a nice touch
KAYLEE AND SHELBY HOLDING HANDS WHEN THEY COME IN WITH THEIR BOYFRIENDS IS HILARIOUS TO ME
The moment between Mrs. Greene and Alyssa after they hug was amazing and Alyssa dragging her mom into the room
HAWKINS AND DEEDEE KISS!!!
They kept the “do not let me destroy him” but cut the corset line :/
I don’t know why but it made me so happy to recognize the choreo (especially that Alyssa danced during the boys part like always, I was worried they would change it and i’m glad they didn’t. it’s a little detail that I’ve always loved)
THE KISS
You think I would make you read this and then exclude the kiss?
the way that before they kissed the actors were all watching to see what would happen
Alyssa turning to look at her mom after she kisses Emma
And her mom giving her a little nod to let her know she’s okay
‘Wear Your Crown’ was actually really good
And all the clips in the credits were so adorable
Especially Emma and Alyssa in the prom queen and king crowns
I’m very grateful that they kept the full versions of ‘The Acceptance Song’ & ‘You Happened’ on the soundtrack
We finally got ‘Tonight Belongs to You (Reprise)’ on an album but at what cost
I know there is more that I’m missing but this is already longer than I’d planned
#are we not going to talk about mrs greeenes dress????#the prom#im gonna make another one of these but i probably wont post is unless im asked about it#the prom movie#mine

because it's love | oneus
➞ oneus as side characters that likes the fl
➞ angst, one sided love
➞ side characters, at times they bring more light to the show then the mcs themselves. how are the 6 guys of oneus as side characters that likes the fl?
note:
mc - main character
fl - female lead
ml - male lead
warnings: constant switching between stage name and real name, overly possessive mls, terrible fls, sad oneus
ravn:
the pretty boy type
i mean look at him and tell me he doesn't fit this trope
this type of side character is too pretty to be one. many would even argue that he looks better than the ml. he is also portrayed as somewhat vain and plain out confident in his looks
as this is youngjo, he doesn't come out as cocky. he really should be confident because he has the looks to match
so girls (and some boys) confessing to him weren't that much of a surprise. whats surprising however is the fact that not once had he accepted their confessions
people would try to solve the mystery between ravn and his muse but alas it was a mystery better left unsolved
his muse comes in the form of the fl. same neighborhood, same schools all their lives but there was never a chance for them to get close
and his only notable appearance in the fl and ml's story was the time a pissed off ml had punch youngjo to warn the others who stares far too long at the fl
that day ravn didn't knew what hurt more; his face, his ego, or his heart
deep inside that wasn't his concerns. he simply hoped that he wouldn't see fl's scared expression ever again
but how was he to know when the ml used his parents' influence to drive ravn away?
seoho:
the comic relief type
(|||❛︵❛.)
this type of side character has a life where its basically treated as a comedy. whether or not he's doing things intentionally, it will always be treated as a joke and yes it includes him feeling actual pain
seoho had liked his life where he could make everyone smile
he hated seeing sadness or frustration clouding a person and even if he isn't close to them, he tries his best to cheer them up
and while there are times it brings so much humiliation for seoho, their smiles are more than enough
that was what he had thought before he met fl
the fl was the apple of his eyes and that one thing that makes everything better
yet...
why was she laughing at him?
why was she not laughing with him?
how come she never takes him seriously?
he had tried so hard to change his approach or demeanor for even just a second of her stopping with that sneering look but it never happened
he was treated as a joke, he is just a joke for her
but at least she's smiling — he had tried to reason out with himself
true enough if he was in some romcom, a laugh track would insert itself as he was hurting
seoho was there for everyone but who was there for him?
leedo:
the caring type
he looks scary but we all know that isn't the case
this type of side character is just so nice and caring. they might not outwardly say they care but by their actions you could tell that they do
gunhak seriously looks unapproachable but the way he smiles and moves, it erases all the prejudice you had at first glance
that and maybe because he works with children
(yes its kindergarten teacher! leedo time)
parents had thought that their kids would have feared him but now he is their favorite teacher
listen he's just soft for the kiddos and the parents could see that
the fl is also a teacher there and her cubicle is even just across gunhak's
the way how he hovers the fl like some mother chick was not seen as suspicious. almost everyone got that same treatment
it seriously had hurt when the fl has just brushed off his efforts as him being nice. it wasn't that noticeable but he gave the fl more effort than he does to everyone else
though it didn't compare when fl got a boyfriend. it hurt really bad for leedo especially when he sees how well the ml treats her
that should have been him if only he had the courage
keonhee:
the loud type
not to be confused with seoho's
this type of side character is just loud. happy? he screams. sad? he screams. scared? he screams. surprised? he screams. basically screaming is almost his natural response
he tries to control his volume but seriously it is out of control
its a miracle that he still has friends that has no problem being out with him
keonhee is that loud
nearby his university was a cafe that he almost always frequent at
the food and drinks there were really his style... that and it was affordable for a college kid
what connection does that cafe have with the fl? she works there
originally keonhee had thought nothing much of the fl but when she pulled "oh, keonhee right? same order as last time?" he was gone
such simple thing and yet it had managed to steal his heart
that was the beginning of many more mixed signals from fl and keonhee naively thinking of it as a good sign
and then he had witnessed fl running up to ml's — a well known playboy if i may add — arms and kissing the living daylight out of him
fl was just being nice, he shouldn't have assumed
he cried himself to sleep that night
hwanwoong:
the "gay" best friend type
note: emphasis on the air quote ""
this type of side character is the fl's best friend. he is rumored to be gay — the fl herself thinks he's gay — but the truth is he is just one effeminate guy
and what was the problem of being more feminine? hwanwoong saw nothing wrong with it
unfortunately he has to deal with how people treats him with the assumption that he's gay
such a backward society. he could only imagine how much worse it is for those who are truly part of the lgbtq+
no wonder he became known as some social justice warrior... and truthfully it was quite a good distraction to reality
yes it deepens his gay rumors but it was a reasonable excuse for him to not see the fl and ml being lovey dovey with each other
his duo with fl turned into a trio but unlike her promises — and hwanwoong himself did knew better than to believe her — he was an outsider
maybe it was just wistful thinking when back then he believed she'd end up liking him back
even the ml isn't threatened by his presence and every day hwanwoong had hoped it wasn't that cause
maybe by then she'd realize that he too is a man in love
xion:
the ml's brother type
i apologize in advance for the dong twins enthusiast
this type of side character is the brother of the ml. him and the ml are typically seen bickering childishly but they in fact cares for each other
basically just dongju and dongmyeong being true siblings
growing up with his twin had meant a lot of shenanigans — good or bad who cares it was the two of them against the world
around middle school, they both had began having their own crowd and it even reached to high school
they were still brothers but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are close
enter fl. dongju had always told himself that he didn't trust fate but the day he met her he had hoped that they were fated for each other
unfortunately he didn't have that much chance to approach the fl. not only was it hard but it was also because he kept on hesitating
crushing on someone that badly was just new to him
but of course there is no happy ending here
dongmyeong had introduced fl as his girlfriend and the inferiority complex had really slapped xion on the face
he found himself constantly asking why that even he no longer remembers what he's been asking for
whether or not fate is real, it works quite mysteriously
