some backstory i fell in love w sumi as soon as her art was revealed i was like omfg peak design PEAKKKKKK i love her so much so i was really excited abt her but i feel like there were so many loose ends w her confidant and namely her crush on protag sometimes doing her a disservice (it turned ppl off from her (understandable bc i also dislike when writers make a female character out to be dependent on a male character) but also made other ppl weird abt her in the same breath....... shivers. people who overly-romanticize/sexualize mentally ill characters (especially girls/women) freak me out sorry

anyway that put me off frm p5 fandom for a hot minute. BUT regardless. i think people often focus on like "shy cute sadgirl kouhai crush-on-protag" for her which on top of atlus's.......mediocre handling of her also does her character a disservice... shes so multilayered!! she houses such insane convoluted levels of distress and fear and anger and reluctance and most of all STUBBORNNESS. i think her headstrong personality is not really emphasized in fandom but i can totally see it (maybe its just me but).

ok moving on to my shsm delusions i think to turn sumire's canon crush on its head i want to make them doomed to never get together. i think 3rd semester is so tense and high-emotion that royal trio are so deeply intertwined w each other:

like they all are mildly-to-a-lot suicidal so they hold onto each other so tightly to make sure none of them spirals and does anything bad. i think in the end they just want the other two to be Okay, even if they themself doesn't. if the other two are ok, then it's all good.

ok back to shsm LMAO i think seeing their relationship as like an odd high-emotion situation makes sense. they love each other, obviously, and provide each other comfort, but the idea of a relationship slips thru their fingers like water. is that right...? is that how it is? like i said up there they just crumble under the weight of their own love. tldr theyre in no place to "date" each other........ but they have their "almost." they're inseparable, they love spending time with each other, but knowing in the back of their heads that it won't last, and they'll have to leave it be one day. "sometimes when i really love someone i leave them alone forever." peak shsm to me. "let's run away together - but what if it's not enough? what if all of this fear and sadness still stays? i take a man down to the river and he throws away his sadness but hes still left with his hands, he's still left with the river (paraphrased richard siken). peak shsm to me. i think they try to treat eachother so softly and gently that it fucks it all up, actually. peak shsm to me. it's not codependency in the sense that theyre not trying to save each other - they're just trying to salvage out some love from it all. all of these terrible things that happened: there's still love, right? there's still love. but the pain can't all be sifted out, and everything still hurts. but they still love. (they just don't date or even talk to each other much after graduating and i think they talk to akechi but to each other its suddenly COMPLICATED. i hate these guys)

ironically i think if you throw akechi in the mix it stabilizes out and i think shuakesumi could totally have a happy married ending. but shsm as a pair i dont see endgame for them. peak for me is that theyre in love and then they spend the rest of their lives trying to forget each other (they don't)

IN REGARDS TO AKESUMI i think my latest 2 comics describe how i feel abt them pretty well!!! link 1 and link 2. actually i think akesumi's friendship is a great way for me to explore how i see/portray/feel about sumire, because i see them as way more similar than the game pays attention to. they're both stuck in their ways: sumire in her cowardice, hiding from the incident and refusing to move on, and akechi entrenched in his own traumas and feeling like he doesn't deserve more than that. their self-hatred manifests in two opposite ways but its very similar at the core. they both like. have no fucking clue what they're doing in terms of handling their pasts so that's why i think them working together to get around their own respective traumas is so fascinating: akechi is terrible at it, pushing sumire too far, but at the same time that perspective is something that she needs. meanwhile, her sensitive and observant personality shows akechi that like, you can have This too: a soft, good love. to have someone care about you unconditionally, so gently. you deserve that, too. yeah i can explode my head off now

TEAM TRIPS WAHHHH those late night bus rides where everyone is quietly content for the day, saving a spot for you to sit next to him, sharing earbuds and falling asleep on his shoulder as the bus lights dim..... this is so not specifically personal to me or anything........... i think this series might kill me

ok i just needed to write a drabble for this bc this is so cute. i accidentally left out the headphone sharing part but..

“What the hell are you doing?” From the corner of his eye, Jake catches your twitching hand making its way onto his thigh. 

The dimmer it got outside, the closer you’ve been scooting over the line separating your seats—and the closer your hand has been inching towards his own. If it was Bradley doing this, Jake would tell him to shove off and go sit with the coach’s daughter. But three hours into the drive to the hotel, he’d already done that. 

And if he were to push you away, that would only add on to his teammates’ ongoing joke that he only makes you unhappy when he’s near you. 

She looks like she’s about to shit herself when she sees you. Notice how she stops smiling when she sees your ugly frown. Seresin the smile stealer. 

Finally, the shock registers in your brain that your pinky is on his leg. On the leg of the guy you had a pathetic crush on, to the point that you’d been trying to simmer your laughter around him, because you overheard him complain that Bradshaw’s laughter was the worst thing he’s ever heard.

Mortified, you jolt a safe three inches away from him, maintaining the original gap left between you two. “‘M sorry. I just—I’m scared of the dark. And the bus driver…shut off the aisle lights,” you meekly explain, embarrassment pumping your unsteady heartbeat. 

Then it’s quiet again as you drill your eyes into the headrest of the seat in front of you. The only sound that catches your ear is a calm blend of everyone’s soft snoring around you and a faint rustling from your new seat partner.

Suddenly, the side of Jake’s thigh is pressed against yours again, blanketing the left side of your body in a strangely comforting warmth that diffuses through you. Because he—because Jake Seresin moved closer to you.

Jake Seresin. Closer. To. You.

Eyes stretched like saucers, you snap your head in his direction but he’s already steered his attention to look out the window.

“I just asked what you were doing. I didn’t tell you to move,” he says plainly, extending his arm to grab your hand.

“If you were scared, you coulda’ just said so,” he whispers through pursed lips, moving your entwined hands into his lap. 

All you can do is stare at him in awe, appreciation knocking over the back of your head like a wave. This was the same Jake Seresin that hated the way other people’s skin felt on his. This was the same Jake Seresin that you fought the urge to smile around because you liked him so much.

At that, you’re driven to snuggle into his side—and oddly enough, he lets you.

And maybe it’s just your blissful imagination, but you feel him stroke your knuckles with his large thumb when you press a cheek to his chest.

“I knew you were nice,” you finally giggle, forgetting your self-reminders to not do that.

Lifting your head against his team hoodie, your eyes glitter when you catch the corner of his lips twitch into a smile.

“Took you that long to figure it out, Giggles? Maybe if you weren’t frowning so much I’d get a chance to ask you out.”

Jake tilts his head to look at the fluster on your face, biting his lip to stifle his amusement. 

“Yes—I yes. If you’re asking me out, yes,” you blurt, a little too loudly. 

Jake nods at you in confirmation, letting himself finally smile at you. 

Embarrassed, you clear your throat, face hot at the sudden realization that you didn’t have to try so hard to make him like you this whole time.

“Can I….hang out with you tonight? When we get to the hotel? Bradley keeps comin’ into the girl’s room because—” You cut yourself off with a yawn, stirred by a sudden spell of sleepiness from how warm Jake is.

“Mm, I dunno,” he pretends to mull over the idea, not caring enough to lower his voice for the sake of his snoring team. 

“If you wanna hang with me all night, you gotta sleep baby,” he offers, grinning when he feels you squeeze his hand at the pet name.

“I–I can sleep. I’ll sleep right now,” you quickly answer, scrambling in your seat to pull closer to him.

At this point, the interior of the bus is coated in noticeable darkness because the sun had just set. Though, you barely notice it—as your fear of the dark recedes to the back of your mind.

You're fully focused on the fact that Jake lets you cuddle him for the rest of the ride.

Hua Smith-Jiang

Hua means "flower!"

(For timeline's sake, Nya was 3 years old at the time of Ray and Maya's disappearance, and Kai was 5.)

Hua was only a couple months old when Ray and Maya left

She was a very well-behaved baby, however, something that Kai is still grateful for to this day

Kai had a lot of trouble raising both of his little sisters all alone, both Hua and Nya feel guilty

Before meeting Master Wu, Hua loved playfighting with the wonky swords that Kai would make

After recovering the golden weapons, Wu offered to become her teacher, since her old school was too far away from the monastery

So Hua basically spent the better part of her years in the Ninja's care

She would always hang about with Nya while she was creating her samurai X suit

When Sensei Wu's academy was opened, she became a pupil there

She would always behave in Nya's lessons but never in Kai's, and that would really piss him off

While her siblings and the other ninja were away because of their missions, that was when Hua began to feel really lonely

She would sometimes sit staring at the wall for a whole day because she literally had nothing better to do

Around the time of Possesion (She's like 12 years old at this point) she started to feel jealous of Lloyd because Kai would always treat him as a little brother

So she and Kai constantly got into arguments, Nya having to break them up all the time

She had a much better relationship with Nya

Once Jay and Nya officially became a couple, Hua never left her big sister's side for the next 2 weeks in case Jay stole her away

During the Hands of Time, Hua was kept in the dark about A LOT and it was getting to the point where no one would even tell her what was actually happening

The ultimately led to the worst argument her and Kai had ever had, Kai swearing at her and calling her a bunch of names

She sobbed her heart out afterwards

When her parents returned and Wu had disappeared into the time stream, Hua immediately went to live with Ray and Maya

She started to feel lonely all over again and she was sad because she thought her brother didn't love her anymore :(

Even Lloyd visited once apologising for making her seem invisible, and he felt guilty for the way Hua was feeling

(She forgave him and they became besties ehe)

But on New Year's Eve (a few days before SoG begins) Nya and Kai paid a suprise visit and Hua isntantly jumped into Kai's arms and balled her eyes out

Kai only rolled his eyes and was like "Did you seriously miss me that much?!"

But in all seriousness he did apologise for all the hurtful things he said and then they were a happy family again hehe

Hua was on a solo trip to Ninjago City around the time Garmadon returned, bear in mind she had absolutely no clue what was happening

She was on the street below the Bounty when Garmadon crushed it and she thought Kai had died

The first thing she did was find Nya

They both cried together because they thought their big bro was gone forever and also because Nya had lost her two best friends + her bf

But in the end Kai was ok so they were all happy again <33

I hc that around this time Skylor and Kai officially started dating, though it was on and off

But Hua LOVED Skylor so she didn't mind

Nya, Skylor and Hua went on girl's day outs like every other week

She would stay with her parents for two weeks, then stay the monastery for 7 days, before going home again

Bc she gotta see her big bro and big sis ofcc

Lloyd + Kai + Hua + Nya= the ultimate sibling squad

Hua had never felt more hopeless than when Nya turned into the sea

Her whole family sobbed for days and Kai was hit the hardest

Some days when Kai was just curled up on the corner of the couch silently, Hua would crawl up next to him and hug him, then he'd just start crying his eyes out

So you can imagine how happy these two were when Nya came back in Crystalized

By the end of Crystalized, Hua is 15!

Hua does also make an appearance in Dragons Rising, she's usually found at the crossroads and hung out with Arin and Sora a lot, telling them stories about the ninja

Obviously they don't know that Kai and Nya are her siblings so they never tell the ninja, and at this point they don't actually know her wherabouts.

That is all for Hua's story! Moving on to more facts about her:

Hua was really glad that she wasn't born with an element, because she hated the idea of going on all of the missions her siblings had to go on

Zane and Pixal were basically Hua's second parents after season 8

While she was staying with the ninja, Zane sometimes would give her the answers for homework, and Pixal would take her out at times where Nya couldn't

Even after they made up just before SoG, Kai and Hua were always butting heads

She loves wearing beaded bracelets and bangles on both her wrists

Hua once walked in on Kai and Skylor making out, the poor girl was so flustered she turned around and ran straight into the door 😭

Skylor laughed it off but Kai was so embarrassed

Jay always treaded lightly around Hua, since she wasn't really keen on Nya having a bf

She thought Nya would forget about her, even though her big sis tries to convince her that she'd never ever do that

Since Ray and Maya basically weren't a part of her life at all before Hands of Time, Hua sat them both down and brought together all her favourite things like bracelets, photos, etc, and she told them essentially everything there was to know about her

Somehow is probably the best Prime Empire player in all of Ninjago, both Jay and Kai are pissed about it

When she was younger (seasons 1-4) she'd dress up in the ninja's old gis for fun

Since her hair was quite long, she used to let the ninja style it for her for fun. Cole once created this beautiful twin-braided hairstyle and now Hua wears it like that all the time.

Marvin is homophobic, and has a strange fascination for the ocean. There's a body of water under the balcony of the rich ass house he lives in with his neglectful parents and maids. So Marvin is auditioning for the play and he gets Columbus. Whizzer gets Amerigo but Marvin thinks his name is Wilson. Marvin kinda crushes on him. Trina is Queen Isabella bc I love foreshadowing and Marvin's sweetheart, who is named Ellie, is working backstage.

Marvin finally gets the courage to talk to Whizzer and they practice for the play. Blablabla they grow closer, Marvin goes to one of Whizzer's games, they play chess and racquetball yippee. Marvin draws Whizzer and Whizzer writes about Marvin. Very cute. Marvin sort of has a panic attack? Its not a seizure bc he was just hyperventilating. Whizzer helps him by holding his hand and being there. They start talking and at some point Marvin founds out that Whizzer is gay and honestly doesn't mind that much since he likes Whizzer too much to care. This starts the character development yay

Guys threaten to out Whizzer to his dad bc everyone knows he's gay. Theres also a rumor that he gave bjs to the whole football team. Marvin fakes a seizure to distract them and gets his ass beat while doing so bc thats what they usually do when he's like that. Marvin then gets friends bc theres this super cool Pink anon that started off kinda homophobic and gossipy but turns out shes gay and just annoyed that all her friends are getting boyfriends. She also kinda has a crush on Trina.

Whizzer gets invited to a party and Marvin is like 'dude they're gonna beat you up' but instead of being chill, he's obsessive af bc ofc. Whizzer distracts Marvin by practicing kissing for the play lmao.

Whizzer goes to the party, keeps getting coerced into drinking, this sophomore dude (Marv and Whiz are freshman) is like 'hey bbg can we like kiss' and whizzer is like 'sure' and then turns out it was a trap and Whizzer gets thrown into this room where he gets the shit beat out of him while they take pics of him. The cops come bc underage drinking and the soph that tricked Whiz earlier feels bad so he gives him a ride.

There's blackmail against Whizzer now. Somewhere around all of that Marvin and Whizzer had a roller rink not-date, which is a place that Sweetheart and Marvin had had a date in so kinda sus. And at some point Whizzer becomes a metaphor for the moon?? Since Marvin loves the ocean at night and the way the moon shines on it, the metaphor happened and its pretty cool.

Some guys sent Marvin the pics and he went on a full on rage so he beat up a guy with pencils and rocks and shit. He got suspended for two days. Sweetheart went crazy at some point there.

One guy is like "ill tell on Whizzer to his dad unless you break shit off with Whizzer' so angst happens and they fight and most blackmail is gone now. But Marvin gets a giddy seizure and spills the beans to Whizzer, so after he wakes back up they're chill.

Later, the guys with the blackmail decided to tell the principal about the party and the pictures and make it seem like Whizzer had been trying to kiss the soph so that the principal would speak to Whizzer's alcoholic dad and out him.

Pink and Marvin show up earlier and Pink starts a fight with one of them so that it'll look like a bunch of seniors beating up a freshman girl but principal doesn't get there in time so Marvin got injured defending her. But the guys do get suspended. Marvin is still not satisfied

One of the guys is like 'meet me at this abandoned house to fight and dont bring pencils' and marvin is just kinda like 'ok'. The guy is like 'give me your lunch money and tell the truth abt what happened today and ill stop bothering you' but marv is like 'burn the leftover blackmail first'. The guy is like 'youll have to fight me for it' and marv is like 'ok' so Marvin gets the shit beat out of him. Marvin is now heavily injured, not eating lunch bc of lunch money deal, but doesn't have to worry abt the bullying bc even tho the blackmail still exists, the guy said he wouldnt do anything.

harriucius - i like them its the second het ship in the show ive ever actually liked!! they just both go so well in so many ways, they both have almost the exact same struggles and cope in similar ways, but harriet has more of a hands on attitude with her problems, while confucius tends to avoid things. im VERY interested in how their relationship will go and i dont really think anything’s gonna happen to them bc i cant picture the show pairing either of them up with anyone else (mostly confucius tbh 😭)

joanharriet - i WISH this one was more acknowledged by the fandom like i think its the least popular one at least involving the newbies.. can you tell im a sucker for ships that are literally just two close friends who love eachother more than anything. lol. when i think of them i think of episode 5 which makes me extremely happy. like look me in the eyes and tell me that was not an absolutely beautiful wonderfully wrapped episode

johnfucius - gonna be honest i dont like this one. i know this is a really rich thing to say while talking about clone high season 2 but it just felt rushed, and especially with how they barely did anything after sleepover. like they were literally crying both of them being like OMG I FINALLY HAVE A FRIEND!! and then they proceed to have the most stale interactions with the most notable one being in the next episode and it’s literally just confucius encouraging jfk to avoid his problems like he does. not really good. but again if you enjoy them all the power to you, im happy you found something you like that hasn’t been ruined and seems pretty docile and chill compared to all the other ones :o) it’s very much a mostly fandom based ship
