getting emotional over footage of an amateur scuba diver interacting with a coelacanth. they are hunted by large deepwater predators, and here comes a large creature bearing the brightest lights it's ever seen, making strange noises, but it does not shy away. it hovers, calmly, as the diver reaches out and trails a hand down its back. im strongly against the anthropomorphizing of real life animals but the stupid emotional part of me loudly insists this is because it recognizes us, the alternating movements of its four paired limbs matching the diver's four paired limbs, & it is thinking, "hello, cousins, we missed you these 66 million years, it's so good to see you again. welcome back, welcome home."

A progressive male Rossetian wearing a pouch to carry his kids! While Rossetians legally have gender equality in the workplace and politics etc, they still have similar cultural stereotypes for their version of man and woman as humans do, and those values say that it should be a "woman" in this role. Same old same old, though their woman version isn't necessarily a homemaker. They're both expected to be out there as the providers, and whenever they're at home teach their respective/gendered values (thus, married couples get synced work weeks by law for proper child rearing until a certain age) (public education is only something they send their kids to for job training, everything else is homeschooling in this way either by the parents or qualified siblings in the house.) Anyway

a "man" carrying children of this age in such a way is seen as feminine, much more so than it would be in humans because it's coded heavily with their biology (to their conservative circles, this is low key drag?? since they’re wearing a replica of a female physical trait and using it in a woman-like way. Actual cross dressing/ drag for a rossetian man would involve a lot more horn covering, exaggerated pouch stuff, and dresses idk).

Rossetian tongues are highly sensitive and are used not only to smell but also to pick up on other chemical signals, like whether or not a root vegetable is good to buy. Very important for survival.

Mod Owl lore: I used to be an artist for an original closed adoptables species called Wuffies on a niche rp forum board and I've been thinking about them again recently, so I thought i'd doodle Grian as a wuffy. Bonus fun fact - wuffies do not usually have wings, but I was the only person to ever get a wuffy with wings cause it was a birthday present from the species owner and I still have it :3 It would feel criminal to not give Grian wings though

took a shot at finishing an old Neopet species concept sketch in Adobe Animate (basically flash) to go for True Authenticity- i always love the puzzle of scaling it down and suddenly seeing what doesn't read clearly- put both versions side by side to show what I mean!

This pet would be called the Vully, and would be a Neopet native to the Lost Desert. I'm not planning on going super in depth with them currently because i'd like to finish the Centibyte project, but maybe someday i'll play around with the concept more!

Say hello to Azel, a muttreazik who i designed randomly a while ago and then got brain rotted with. Here, I wanted to figure out what he’s looked like through the years (and kind of draw what he looks like now ha) ; it’s pretty much been downhill from his illegal natural birth on a small remote farm.

Azel is what happens to most E congruency muttreazik, meaning that he's an outcast that many people find frightening and dangerous.

Many muttreazik like him have similar life experiences, but his was a lot rougher and took a sharper turn into the “I will play the part of the monstrous outcast” thing because of his body plan, which is uncomfortable at best and freakish at worst (an X-ray of what his internal organs look like would not be pretty, stuck between the layout of a bird, human, and some type of canine) , with the cherry on top being his massive size and capacity to throw a large chunk of metal at you with his mind

Other fun facts:

he has a sword that he carries around that he made in the ‘forest beast 20s’ era, only because he didnt know how to make a gun)

His wings are completely useless for flight (not that the rest of his body is adapted to that anyway) and can only make his jumps a little more impressive.

Up until recently, he had never really seen or even heard of the xenos before. It was a bit of a shock running into someone that wasn't a human or muttreazik (and in the case of Prectikar, someone who's as tall as him)

He doesn't specifically use "he" as a pronoun, but he arbitrarily likes it better than she or they.

Due to several factors (namely his muzzle, tongue, and dog-like airway) he can't actually speak human languages well, if at all.

He's an obligate carnivore, which with his current living situation is like a sqeamish wolf trying to survive in the suburbs

His best friend is fellow low-congruency societal reject Lewis, who he calls coyote on account of his face's uncanny resemblance to one. They met when he saved Lewis from getting mugged, and after which Lewis helped him out with the pesky gunshot wound he'd sustained from a farm a couple miles over. You can see the doodlebob Lewis right at the end there.
